The aim of this paper is to present a conception of the triple nature of mathematics. It is argued that the nature of mathematics is best served by distinguishing deep ideas (of concepts or propositions), their surface representations (signs which can be perceived by senses) and their formal models (in axiomatic theories). For instance, the concept „number π” has several different models in set theory (those based on Dedekind cuts and on Cantor's equivalence classes of Cauchy sequences) and yet all working mathematicians in the world have the same object π in mind. They have a common deep idea of π. Generally, the deep idea of a concept X is a well-formed mental construction of X which controls reasoning. It manifests itself in a characteristic, definite feeling of purpose, in firm certainty of the meaning of X in various contexts, and in robustness of understanding of X in cases of typical cognitive conflicts. Epistemic deep ideas are intersubjective and have been formed in phylogeny whereas individual deep ideas (or deep intuitions) are formed in ontogeny. In certain situations a deep idea may be described in terms of intuition, of meaning or sense, or of understanding, but none of these terms can provide a satisfactory description fitting all cases. Deep ideas of certain concepts are identified in authoritative texts where the actual use of the concept formally, although unnoticeably, conflicts with the declared definition. Specific examples, discussed in the paper, include: vertex of a straight angle; switching the meaning of fraction from a single number to a pair numeratordenominator; identifying vector with point and with translation. A peculiar anomaly is known in axiomatic set theory. The standard definitions are: an ordered pair is (a1,a2)={{a1}, {a1,a2}}; a function f : X›Y is a set of pairs; a sequence (a1,…,an) is a function on the set {1,…,n}; an ordered pair is the same as a two-term sequence (a1,a2), which is different from {{a1}, {a1,a2}}. This is an unavoidable definitional loop; however, it does not affect reasoning, for mathematicians use the deep idea of a pair, and not the definition. An example is given to show that two geometric phrases with analogous surface grammatical structures (with adjectives linked by „and”) may be interpreted differently (as the union or the intersection of the relevant sets), depending on their deep linguistic structures. The transitional mechanisms in the history of science and psychological development described by J. Piaget and R. Garcia, in particular those leading from the intra level (object analysis), to the inter level (analysing relations or transformations), and then to the trans level (building structures), may be used to outline the formation processes of epistemic deep ideas and those of individual ones; in each progression what gets surpassed is always integrated with the new (transcending) structure. Metaphorically, the deep idea of a concept is built on layers of earlier constructions and meanings.

The protagonist of this article is Andrzej Walicki, undoubtedly the most creative personality in the circle of the so-called Warsaw School of the history of ideas. The following reflections aim to analyse his contribution to the Polish historiography of ideas and present the main fields of his study together with the most significant achievements in the history of Russian and Polish thought of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, the theory of totalitarianism and the history of Marxism.

Leibniz may be considered as the first computer scientist. He made major contributions to engineering and information science. He invented the binary system, fundamental for virtually all modern computer architectures. He built a decimal based machine that executed all four arithmetical operations and outlined a binary computer. The concepts of lingua characteristica (formal language, programming language) and calculus ratiocinator (formal inference engine or computer program) are the base of the modern logic and information science. Leibniz was groping towards hardware and software concepts worked out much later by Charles Babbage and Ada Lovelace. He anticipated the universal Turing machine.

In this paper are presented the possibilities to attain the artificial intelligence features of slide micro-bearings taking into account: 1.           Cooperation between super thin boundary lubricant layer and thin superficial layer lying on the micro-bearing shaft and sleeve with various shapes. 2.           Application of a novel method of depositing thin organic and inorganic layer (superficial layer) onto a metal substrate utilizing electro-spraying (electrostatic atomization) method. The new achievements presented in this paper are aimed at application of this technology to functional layer deposition in micro-bearings. Electro-spraying is a low-energy process of liquid atomisation by means of electrical forces. Electro-spraying device consists of a capillary nozzle connected to a high electric potential whereas the substrate is grounded. The liquid flowing out the nozzle is subjected to an electrical stress, and fine droplets are generated from the meniscus or the jet formedat the nozzle outlet. Depending on physical properties of the liquid to be spraye dań d spraying conditions, the size of the droplets can be in the submicron size range. In the electro-spraying process, a solution or a suspension of a material to be deposited is atomised into droplets, which can be targeted onto a substrate to form a condensed product, for example a thin layer after solvent evaporation. The deposition efficiency of charged droplets on a target is much higher than for uncharged ones due to electric forces, which drive the droplets along the electric filed lines towards the substrate.

The article looks at three pedagogical solutions - blended tutoring, online intercultural exchanges and the flipped classroom - which capitalize on the symbiosis between pedagogy and new technologies. Each of the three proposals stems from a belief that university education should be dialogic and result in meaning construction rather than content transmission. There is a common scheme in which all three solutions are presented here. First, each proposal is accommodated with a certain theoretical outline. Then the pedagogical routines employed during its implementation are discussed. Each presentation cycle is closed with a description and analysis of a case study: the interaction between a tutor and a tutee in the case of blended tutoring; the course of a 2014 German-Polish telecollaboration for Online Intercultural Exchanges; and finally, the different aspects of a merger between the flipped university and the Design Thinking model.

Historians of philosophy use the word genesis fairly freely. Most often it is supposed to denote the beginning of a certain trend, variously understood, a problem, argument, or, broadly speaking, a certain idea. Nevertheless, as Karl Jaspers pointed aptly, the beginning is something historical, something that once happened in a given time. In this sense it is always single and unrepeatable. If, however, some trends and ideas always recur in philosophy, it is better to speak about a source, or, perhaps, a few sources than about a beginning. It seems that the use of the term „genesis” to define such a source is legitimate. A source is, however, a genesis of another tpe than beginning, because in a sense it eludes time. The impulse stimulating to philosophizing flows from the sources on and on in various epochs. The paper first discusses the genesis of philosophical ideas understood as a beginning, then genesis understood as a source.

Janusz Korczak (the pen name of Henryk Goldszmit), writer, doctor, but above all one the best tutors and teachers. Korczak fought for improvement of children’s lives. By his life and convictions he tried to prove that a child is a complete human being, not only a person in the making. Struggling for human dignity of a child, he concentrated his efforts on three areas: dignity of children, the rights of children and their place in a society. We can learn his stance on the situation of children, in the context of the European Children’s Rights Movement at the beginning of the 20th century, when he says: „wzywam o magna charta libertatis, o prawa dziecka” – (“I call for Magna Charta Libertatis, for children’s rights”). The voice of Janusz Korczak in his famous pedagogical essay “Jak kochać dziecko” – (“How to Love a Child”) has retained its significance to the present day. Fighting for children’s rights, the “Old Doctor” (his second pseudonym) concentrated on the position of children in the adults’ world and their mutual relationships. That is why the analysis of the main spheres of activity of the adults and children (family, school, society) is so important today, and consequently, finding the answer to the questions: To what extent are the Korczak’s objectives in the abovementioned spheres realized today? How children’s rights are respected?

The article presents some strategic aspects of the KOMAG Institute of Mining Technology in the field of creating innovative ideas and innovative technical solutions concerning machinery and devices for mining and preparation of minerals as regards their operational safety, productivity and reliability. Special attention is paid to a process of stimulating innovative ideas in a creative atmosphere, as KOMAG researchers and engineers are encouraged to be open-minded and to think in an unconventional way. Two examples of innovative technical solutions are described in detail, i.e. the water-and-air dust control system and the KOMTRACK haulage system for highly productive longwall systems of a new generation. The article contributes significantly to Innovation Engineering which is an important component of Production Engineering in the scope of generating and implementing innovative solutions. The authors presented an ecosystem of innovations, describing several methods of creating innovative ideas. The article concentrates on a role of Polish research institutes which play a key role in creating and implementing innovative solutions, bridging science and industry. Due to an analysis of different methods of generating innovative technical ideas and solutions, it can be concluded that an idea and a need of generating an innovative solution may appear in the research institute or at the industrial partner’s organization. In the case of the KOMAG multi-year experience and practice industrial partners include not only producers of mining machinery and equipment, but also representatives of mines of minerals. In general an innovative idea is generated in the result of an inspiration from the business environment and then it is transformed into an innovative product or service. The article contains the authors’ practical recommendations as regards a creation of innovative technical solutions. It is ended with a summary of general character and with some final conclusions.

The article is aimed to discuss the place of architecture in the space of ideas. The present work discusses a specific place, the Zaspa housing estate in Gdańsk, and refers to a specific person, namely, the author of artistic installations temporarily exhibited in the Zaspa housing estate. Also, the wider context of the specific situations in which the exhibitions were displayed is presented. The article attempts to answer the question of the importance of the quality of dwelling in the context of the quality of life of city dwellers. The work focuses on the subjective quality of life, identified most often with the feeling of satisfaction with life in its various aspects and with mental well-being. The quality of living, in turn, may be defined as satisfaction with the structure and functioning of the house and its commonly shared surroundings that constitutes the context of such living. The installations exhibited in the Zaspa estate discussed in the following article represent a potential area for activities with which to change the landscape and/or architectural elements of housing estates that refer to the living space. The essence of the research lies in the analysis of the place architecture occupies in a wider context of the intangible spaces. Homes can be perceived in a phenomenological way. It this case, the spaces of the house are inside us, just as we are inside them (Bachelard, 1994).

In Plato’s philosophical system ideas are eternal and constant objects that serve as patterns and causes of the material, changeable world. Things exist because they participate in ideas. In Eriugena’s philosophical system causes are eternal objects created by God that serve as source of order and the excellent creature. In an absolute sense ideas and causes are unknowable, although they are available to the human intellect to a certain extent. This article attempts to compare ideas and causes to understand them as well as to examine their role as causes of the changeable world. It is worth drawing such a comparison, for both Plato and Eriugena are central figures in the European culture and for our civilization.
W systemie filozoficznym Platona idee to wieczne i niezmienne byty, które są wzorami i przyczynami dla świata fenomenów. Rzeczy są tym czym są, ponieważ uczestniczą w ideach. W systemie filozoficznym Jana Szkota Eriugeny przyczyny prymordialne to stworzone przez Boga wieczne byty, które stanowią źródło porządku i doskonałą formę stworzenia. W sensie absolutnym idee i przyczyny prymordialne wymykają się ludzkiemu poznaniu, choć w pewnej mierze pozostają dostępne dla intelektu. Artykuł jest próbą ukazania idei i przyczyn w kontekście ich przyczynowości i poznawalności. Warto, zdaniem autora, podjąć próbę takiego porównania, ponieważ Platon i Eriugena to postacie znaczące dla europejskiej kultury i naszej cywilizacji.

The aim of this article is to examine the political ideas of Milovan Djilas (1911–1995) developed in his dissident period (1954–1989). Once a highly ranked communist and revolutionary of Tito’s antifascist partisan army in the Second World War Yugoslavia, Milovan Djilas (1911–1995) became widely known as one of the most important dissident figures in Eastern Europe. A noted reformist since Tito-Stalin split in 1948 and political prisoner (1956–1961, 1962–1966), Djilas was deprived from all public activity in his country until the end of communist rule. Author of more than twenty books translated and published abroad, ranging from political analysis and memoirs to novels and shorts stories, Djilas never truly gave up the ideals of the young talented writer he was in the early 1930s when he joined the communists. Declaring himself a democratic socialist, it was in his dissident period that he formulated a specific form of political philosophy which included his criticism of communist ideology and Titoist authoritarian rule in Yugoslavia, but also wider thoughts on human condition, literature and philosophy in the 20th century.

Opis:
The purpose of the article is to demonstrate that ideas can be treated as a factor explaining political stability and change. Based on the completed analytical tasks, it has been found that ideas have their own dynamics and therefore they deliver unique effects, influencing change or stability of policies. The article demonstrates that the impact ideas have on the political process depends on the understanding of human behaviour in the field of politics. The article reviews the ideational dimension with reference to behaviours covered by the rational choice theory, by historical, sociological and discoursive institutionalism and constructivism. As a result of the analytic tasks, certain differences have been revealed between the above mentioned approaches in terms of understanding the impact of ideas. What the approaches have in common is a close link between ideas and political actors. The article covers theoretical issues without considering methodology aspects. It is based on the outcomes of study projects carried out by authors recognized in the so-called school of ideas, formed in political science following the “ideational shift” during the 1990s and reflecting until the present day on the ideational dimension of politics.
Celem artykułu jest wykazanie, że idee mogą być traktowane jako czynnik wyjaśniający polityczną stabilność i zmianę. Przeprowadzone analizy pokazały, że idee odznaczają się własną dynamiką, w wyniku której powodują specyficzny efekt wpływający na zmianę polityki lub jej stabilność. Artykuł pokazuje, że wpływ idei na proces polityczny jest uwarunkowany sposobem rozumienia zachowań człowieka w sferze polityki. W artykule poddano analizie wymiar ideacyjny w odniesieniu do zachowań, o jakich jest mowa w teorii racjonalnego wyboru, historycznym, socjologicznym i dyskursywnym instytucjonalizmie oraz konstruktywizmie. W rezultacie analiz ujawniono różnice pomiędzy tymi podejściami w zakresie rozumienia wpływu idei. Tym, co je łączy, jest ścisły związek idei z aktorami politycznymi. Artykuł dotyczy kwestii teoretycznych, nie uwzględnia problematyki metodologicznej. Opiera się na rezultatach badań przeprowadzonych przez autorów zaliczanych do tzw. szkoły idei, która powstała w naukach politycznych po „ideacyjnym zwrocie” w latach 90. ubiegłego wieku i również dzisiaj podejmuje refleksję nad wymiarem ideacyjnym polityki.

It is now being realized that people are driven by their emotions too much greater extent than by their intellect. Therefore, most influential are those leaders who knew how to evoke appropriate emotional states in their listeners. Examples of successful propaganda provide Nazi Germany, the Soviet Union, and recently Rwanda. In fact, both Nazi and Soviet propaganda made it possible to exterminate thousands of people with a silent consent of common citizens. Most people are easy to manipulate because they do not realize that words are symbols that bear strong emotional load. Moreover, party and religious leaders are often not aware of the consequences of the words they use. Whether they speak of an “enemy” of the nation, religion or society their eager followers will sooner or later come to the conclusion that the enemy is a serious obstacle in the welfare of the state. It made the revolutionary to slaughter all those who dared to think and act in a different way. On the other hand, words can also create positive attitudes persuading people to offer help to those in need. It is closely connected with the way the brain works. The studies found that common are not only sensual illusions but cognitive illusions as well. They make people to act in accordance with schemas they have internalized, and to react with negative emotions to those who try to change their word outlook, and the manner of thinking since they in terpret it as an attack on their basic values.

Autorka punktem wyjścia rozważań czyni zmiany w zakresie oczekiwań wobec uniwersytetów. Zwraca uwagę na dominację takich oczekiwań, jak: efektywność, konkurencyjność, urynkowienie, a także ich konsekwencję – mierzalność. Nawiązując do gadamerowskiej diagnozy kryzysu uniwersytetu podkreśla jedną z przyczyn kryzysu, to jest brak życia w ideach. W zastąpieniu troski o to, by działać według zasad: szybko, dużo i tanio, troską o rozwoj idei upatruje możliwość przezwyciężenia kryzysu uniwersytetu.
The author takes the changes in expectations towards universities as a starting point for the article. She indicates the dominance of such expectations as: effectiveness, competitiveness, marketization, and their consequence – measurability. Referring to Gadamer’s diagnose of the crisis of universities, the author regards the lack of living among ideas to be its cause. Concern for the development of ideas (and not for quick, abundant and cheap action) might be a way of overcoming this crisis.

The publication points at the subject of the need of father Jacek Woroniecki’s person’s and  teaching’s memory. In general, it brings closer who he was and through what he deserved posterity’s remembrance. The author of the publication shows the essence of his contribution to the development of pedagogics as such and the Catholic pedagogogics in particular. Therefore she brings up the arguments which make father Jacek Woroniecki’s ideas about understanding the problem of education as well as preceptor’s or role model’s meaning for the education stand the test of time.

W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badań na temat wyobrażeń nauczycieli o własnej przyszłości (kontekst indywidualny) i przyszłości świata (kontekst globalny). Autorka przebadała dwie kohorty, liczące po przeszło 400 nauczycieli, najpierw na przełomie 1989/1990 roku, potem w drugim dziesięcioleciu XXI wieku. Mając takie wyniki porównywała je z sobą Wyniki badań sugerują, że pomimo wielu pozytywnych zmian demokratycznych w szkole, w edukacji, wciąż utrzymuje się pewien syndrom braku, jakim jest zła atmosfera w stosunkach międzyludzkich w szkołach i w środowisku, w społecznym otoczeniu szkół. Nauczyciele najbardziej nie chcieliby utraty pracy, chorób, wojen, rozpadu kraju, załamania demokracji, zanieczyszczenia środowiska. Pragnęliby dobrego zdrowia, zabezpieczenia materialnego rodziny, dobrych stosunków międzyludzkich, poprawy infrastruktury i gospodarki, pokoju na świecie. Z badań wynika, że dla nauczycieli, jako grupy społecznej i zawodowej o szczególnym statusie niezmiennie ważne są wartości ogólnospołeczne i globalne. Po 25 latach ustroju neoliberalnego, badani życzyliby sobie większej dbałości o obywateli, równego ich traktowania, sprawiedliwości społecznej, normalnego, sprawiedliwego rządu dbającego o potrzeby ludzi, zgody narodowej; aby nastąpił koniec konfliktów w narodzie polskim, porozumienia narodowego dla przyszłości, dla młodego pokolenia, zakończenia kłótni, pokoju na świecie, pokojowej współpracy narodów. Zebrany materiał upoważnia do poczynienia obserwacji, że wśród nauczycieli, mimo upływu lat, utrzymuje się dosyć wysokie obywatelskie, „społecznikowskie” zaangażowanie oraz poczucie społecznej i kulturalnej odpowiedzialności za przyszłość młodych pokoleń.
The article shows the results of the research on teachers’ personal, individual, and broader - global - expectations about the future. The study is an attempt to compare the social, life, and professional values of the currently working teachers with the values of the persons teaching 25 years ago. As the comparative material for the investigation, the author used the results of the research performed at the turn of 1989 and 1990. The research results suggest that despite numerous positive democratic changes at school, there still persists a kind of the “shortage syndrome”, i.e. a poor atmosphere in interpersonal relations, in the school environment, and the social surroundings of schools. What teachers would want least is: losing their jobs, illnesses, wars, disintegration of the country, collapse of democracy, and contamination of environment. They would want: good health, material security for their families, good interpersonal relations, infrastructural and economic improvement, and peace in the world. The research shows that for teachers as a social and professional group with a special status social and global values are invariably important. After 25 years of the neo-liberal system, the researched would like: greater care about citizens, equal treatment of citizens, social justice, a normal and fair government taking care of citizens’ needs, national consensus, an end to the conflicts in the Polish nation, national consensus for future and young generations, an end to disagreements, peace in the world, and peaceful cooperation among nations. The collected material allows for the observation that among teachers, despite the passage of years, there still persists a rather high level of civil and social activism engagement, as well as the sense of social and cultural responsibility for the future of young generations.

Artykuł ma na celu przedstawienie poglądów Kartezjusza dotyczących związków między postrzeżeniami zmysłowymi a ideami nabytymi. W związku z tym, że zagadnienia te były przez autora Medytacji opracowywane przez wiele lat i ujmowane z odmiennych perspektyw, zestawiam tutaj poszczególne ich ujęcia z najważniejszych pism. Analizy przeprowadzone są zgodnie z chronologią powstawania dzieł, dlatego autor rozpoczyna je od pism fizykalnych, przez metafizyczne i dotyczące anatomii człowieka, by skończyć na psychologicznych. Takie ujęcie tematu pozwala ukazać zmianę podejścia Kartezjusza do omawianego problemu od jego naturalistycznego stanowiska do immanentyzmu. A jednocześnie umożliwia zasygnalizowanie istnienia nieusuwalnego na gruncie jego filozofii rozdarcia między opisywanym przezeń rozciągłym fizykalnym światem a treścią umysłu.
The article presents Descartes’ views on connection between sensible perceptions and adventitious ideas. The author of Meditations worked on this issue for many years and conceived it from different perspectives, therefore the author of the article tries to compare its various de pictions presented in his most important works. The analysis is held according to the chronology of works’ origin and this is why the author begins it from physical works, trough metaphysical and concerning human anatomy, to finish with psychological writings. Such a perspective allows presenting how Descartes’ approach to the issue developed from naturalistic to immanent standpoint. And at the same time it enables to indicate that there is irremovable dilemma in his philosophy between described by him physical extensive world and content of mind. And at the same time it enables to indicate the dilemma of his philosophy: the existence of the irremovable gap between physical extensive world and the contents of human mind.

This article is a reflection on selected aspects of the axiology of work at a university. It consists of three parts. In the first one, the author considers the problem of uncertainty of knowledge, a typical state in science at the turn of the 20th into the 21st century. This is followed by an attempt at analysing its influence upon the quality of university activities. The second part concentrates on a special form of education-distance learning, which seems to result in increasing discrepancy between the content of the transmitted message and the moral situation of its recipient, especially in the field of humanities. In the third and last part, the author discusses the need for axiological transmission of ideas and the moral responsibility of an academic teacher. In these deliberations, the author refers to the works of the historian of science, e.g. Dolby, the philosophers and historians of the society such as Habermas, Popper, Znaniecki and Ossowski, and the theologian, Newman.

If we want to understand how children in preschool period build their ideas of mathematical concepts, we must explore the educational environment, i.e. situations that are organized in kindergarten, and the role of children and the educator in them. This paper focuses on identification of the phenomena that accompany the process of “evolution” of mathematical concepts in a preschool child’s cognition in the environment of institutional preschool education. The basic methodological approach to the research was the grounded theory. Using axial coding the various subcategories were identified within the frame of the so called paradigmatic model according to Strauss and Corbin (1999). On their basis a model of a didactical situation in the environment of a kindergarten was developed. The theoretical framework was Brousseau’s Theory of Didactical Situations.

In this essay I intend to show how Maupassant turned his short stories into a denouncement area of the ‘inherited ideas’, which mean commonly accepted ideas, such as those included by Flaubert in his Dictionary of inherited ideas. In this part of Maupassant’s literary work, the syntagm ‘inherited ideas’ acquires several different meanings, such as: some commonplace topics of the French bourgeoisie, the hasty taking up of fashionable words, attitudes, or cultural clichés, which one may come across in everyday life, the tendency of accepting as unchallenged some social, moral or religious prejudices, or foolish beliefs and unjust statements, authoritatively uttered by ordinary people. I’ll also emphasize the manner Maupassant treated the ‘inherited ideas’ by his ironical hints and the narrator’s affective implication, in spite of his seeming impassibility.

The article discusses outstanding interpretations of the works by F. Nietzsche as represented in Polish educational thought during the “Young Poland” period and the following interwar period. The study aims at elucidating the pedagogical dimensions of Nietsche’s idea in the interpretation of the two periods and at identifying the space within which the concept of the author of Thus spake Zarathustra still remains topical and current. The section devoted to the “Young Poland” period includes an analysis of Jan Kurnatowski’s book Nietsche. Studia i tłumaczenia [Nietzsche. Studies and translations], the one and only work of the period that extracts from the output of the German thinker its strictly pedagogical reflections. The next issue to be presented is a discussion on the journalistic writing that was engaged inNietzschean themes that would be of interest to the present-day pedagogy of culture. Interpretation trends that aimed to discover a universal remedy for the crisis in culture and humanity in the works of the author of Untimely Meditations turned out to be dominant at the time. An approach to the interpretation of Nietzsche’s thought in a wide context of social and cultural interactions made it possible to conclude that the category of Bildungsphilister, castigated by the philosopher, reaches much further beyond just criticism of the contemporary model of education due to the tenability of the notion of Bildumg as the accumulation of cultural capital as it was viewed by Pierre Bourideu. In conclusion of the discussion on the modernist period, the author presents postulations that indicate a need for a shift in the reception emphasis towards directions hitherto unexplored. The section devoted to the interwar period presents the interpretation of the pedagogical thought of Nietzsche presented at the inauguration lecture (on the occasion of Antoni Bolesław Dobrowolski’s acceptance of the chair of pedagogy at Wolna Wszechnica Polska [Free Polish University]) delivered by the professor. The presentation is followed by a discussion on the different approaches presented in various pedagogical encyclopaedias and in Ludwik Chamaj’s Kieruki i prądy  pedagogiki współczesnej [Trends and directions in modern pedagogy]. The latter approaches present Nietzsche as an instigator and a prime mover in contemporary intellectual currents and trends and discuss his influence upon individual philosophers, extracting from his philosophical output the notions of “individualism”, “criticism of the traditional educational system” and “irrationalism”. The journalistic writings under investigation fit well into this particular interpretative trend. The discussion on the interwar period is complemented with a reference to a booklet written by Stanisław Besser and entitled: Bohaterowie myśli. Nietsche i Weininger [Heroes of Thought. Nietzsche and Weininger] and an analysis of the article written by Marian Wachowski Wspomnienia z pism pedagogicznych Nietzschego i Grundtviga [Pedagogical reflections in the writings of Nietzsche and Grundtvig], being the only Polish contribution to the discussion on the series of lectures by Nietzsche Ueber die Zukunft unserer Bildungsanstalten

Refleksja umysłu na temat idei i historii tego, co spożywają, nie jest pierwszoplanowa. Celem artykułu jest, po pierwsze, przedstawienie ideologicznego podłoża kuchni tradycyjnej jako sztuki przekazywania wartości kulturowych, na wybranych przykładach. Po drugie, krótka charakterystyka ideologii współczesnych sieci gastronomicznych nastawionych na konsumpcję masową. Po trzecie, charakterystyka zjawiska tzw. adaptacji kulinarnej.
The article aims at presenting cuisine as the art of transmission of cultural tradition. To investigate the problem the author starts with description of ideas, beliefs, values and culinary customs as the ground of traditional cuisine. Three chosen examples are discussed: jewish kosher cuisine, japanese washoku and chinese ,,At the round table”. Afterwards the question of the ideology of modern gastronomic chains, focused on mass consumption, are briefly characterized. The fact of culinary adaptation is taken into consideration. Finally, some conclusions as open problems are formulated to further exploration.

Artykuł omawia genezę okultyzmu jako nurtu ezoteryki zachodniej na podstawie najnowszych badań akademickich dotyczących gnozy i ezoterycznych tradycji w kulturze zachodniej. Badania o takim profilu są obecnie prowadzone z punktu widzenia nowego podejścia do tej interdyscyplinarnej dziedziny badań, zarysowanego w ostatniej dekadzie XX wieku. E.A. Tiryakyana socjologiczne rozumienie okultyzmu jako „praktyki tego, co ezoteryczne” jest w niniejszym artykule określone jako przestarzałe. Musi ono zostać zastąpione przez nową definicję, biorącą pod uwagę najnowsze, oparte na źródłach badania historyczne dotyczące ezoteryki zachodniej. Okultyzm był zarówno teorią, jak i praktyką, stanowiąc wyraźną, duchową (i magiczną) alternatywę dla chrześcijaństwa, stworzoną i rozwiniętą pod koniec XIX wieku na Zachodzie jako odpowiedź na mesmeryzm i spirytyzm. Początki okultyzmu wyjaśnione są w kategoriach idei, które go zrodziły (mesmeryzm, swedenborgizm, romantyzm). Następnie przedstawione są główne pojęcia okultyzmu oraz scharakteryzowane są trzy kluczowe postaci (P.B. Randolph, É. Lévi i A. Crowley), tak aby zasadnicza treść doktryn okultystycznych stała się jasna. Okultyzm był przedstawiany jako „system” i „nauka”, które zmierzają do sformułowania spójnego nauczania dotyczącego rozwijania intuicyjnych mocy jego adeptów, a jako swój cel ostateczny ustanowił otwartą szansę na osobiste i swobodne wejście w wyższe, duchowe światy i wymiary, bez hipnotycznych transów i pośrednictwa „mediów”. Okultyści podążali za obietnicą wejścia do wyższych, kosmicznych hierarchii, uważanych przez nich za opiekunów i strażników ludzkości, interweniujących w historię w celu zapewnienia postępu ludzkości i promowania coraz to nowych kandydatów (to znaczy samych okultystów) wzwyż ścieżki mającej prowadzić do osiągnięcia boskiego statusu bytowego – statusu równego temu, który przypisywano członkom owych ekskluzywnych, kosmicznych kręgów.
This paper discusses the origins of occultism as a current of Western esotericism based on recent academic studies on Gnosis and esoteric traditions in Western culture. Such studies are now carried out from the standpoint of a new approach to this interdisciplinary field of research, formulated in the last decade of the 20th century. It is argued that E.A. Tiryakyan’s sociological apprehension of occultism as ‘practice’ of that which is ‘esoteric’ is outdated, and needs to be replaced with a new one, taking into account the most recent, source-based studies on western esotericism: occultism was both theory and practice, and constituted a distinct, spiritual (and magical) alternative to Christianity, conceived and developed in the late 19th century in the West as a response to mesmerism and spiritualism. The origins of occultism are explained in terms of the ideas that gave birth to it (mesmerism, Swedenborgianism, romanticism). Next, the main concepts of occultism are presented, and three of the key figures (P.B. Randolph, É. Lévi, and A. Crowley) are characterized to showcase what the essential content of occultist doctrines was. Styled as a ‘system’ and ‘a science’ occultism sought to formulate a coherent teaching regarding the training of intuitive powers of its adepts, and set as their end-purpose an open chance of entering higher, spiritual worlds and dimensions personally and freely, without hypnotic trances and mediations from the ‘mediums’ of the day. Occultists were also promised the possibility of joining higher cosmic hierarchies, believed by them to be the custodians and guardians of humankind, intervening in the history to ensure human progress and promote ever new candidates (that is, the occultists themselves) to the status of godlike entities, equal members of these cosmic, exclusive circles.

In this text the author describes briefly Kierkegaard's conception of existence, which has been juxtaposed by him with the reinterpreted conception of essence and of the existing. Kierkegaard defined existence referring to different orders of representation, first of all to the spoken and written language. He considered existence - always individual and particular - as an object of personal existential choice. This choice concerns, at the same time, the way of individual existence (the stadium of life) and the individual identity. That is why in Kierkegaard's reflection is so important the reference to individual identity and to its grasp in narration - in the mythical parable and in the story concerning everyday life. The problems of existence, identity and their grasp in representation are connected with the Kierkegaardian question of repetition, which is also discussed in this study.

In this article I analyze the issue of many levels of reality that are studied by natural sciences. Particularly interesting is the level of mathematics and the question of the relationship between mathematics and the structure of the real world. The mathematical nature of the world has been considered since ancient times and is the subject of ongoing research for philosophers of science to this day. One of the viewpoints in this field is mathematical Platonism. In contemporary philosophy it is widely accepted that according to Plato mathematics is the domain of ideal beings (ideas) that are eternal and unalterable and exist independently from the subject’s beliefs and decisions. Two issues seem to be important here. The first issue concerns the question: was Plato really a proponent of present-day mathematical Platonism? The second one is of greater importance: how mathematics influences our understanding of the nature of the world on its many ontological levels? In the article I consider three issues: the Platonic theory of “two worlds”, the method of building a mathematical structure, and the ontology of mathematics.

THE ARTICLE INDICATES, that self-government occupies particular place in social, politic and economic realities of Poland. This institution was put before many important civilization tasks in history of Poland. Taking the initiative, encouragement for social activity, and organization of economic and mental life was desired. Forms and range of self-governments have changed within hundreds of years. In the middle ages in XIX age, self-government led to strong political, social and economic separatism. Nowadays, self-government is well informed on objectification of local communities. Self-government ideas are a very important component of West European civilization. It improved in a large measure the attitude towards foreigners, which resulted in them settling down on Polish soil more freely. It is emphasized, that modern self-government ideas are generated to a high degree by unification processes which occur in Europe. In the transformation of social-economic order, important task are being entrusted to local self-government. However, it is assumed, that the power which is generating fundamental changes is scientific and technical progress, international law, tolerance in accordance which different cultural dissimilarity. Local communities especially arouse connection which given area, because of referring to tradition, customs, ethnical and language autonomy. In order of polish self-government tradition, as well as important place in whole Polish political culture, appointed respect for: 1. Idea of freedom. 2. Internal solving of interest in particular local communities. 3. Unity. These ideas are revealed in ensemble of cultural life and civilization conversion. From 1 may 2004, Poland is functioning in structure of European union and in important measure it tries to fulfill these ideas. However, if we recognize development of two-polar world we must take into consideration unification processes. This reality transmits new civilization features to self-governments.

The aim of this study is to formulate and highlight the thesis on reasonability and capability of applying such attitudes and pursuing such activities in the practical operation of institutions of higher education that reflect the idea of the entrepreneurial university which has become prominent nowadays. The idea is described in brief and its present status is indicated here. The authors are seeking conditions for the practical implementation of this idea. They formulate four attributes of the entrepreneurial university, naming them economic, market, innovative and managerial orientations. They point to specific criteria of identifying each of the orientations. They present the general assessment of entrepreneurship of Polish institutions of higher education. Their conclusions highlight the most topical conditions for implementing the idea of entrepreneurial university, such as: building the economic strength and market position of the university, developing relations with the socioeconomic environment, internationalisation and innovativeness. The authors give support to the idea of the entrepreneurial university but – by examining the Polish reality – they notice the need for actions in the sphere of law, which regulates the university’s capabilities to act, and point to the need for entrepreneurship-oriented transformations of lawyers and university management staff’s awareness.

The maritime and overseas journeys of the idea of anthropologyThis article discusses the very concept of anthropology, which was born at the end of 19th century, termed the “history of ideas”, and still exists in contemporary literary theory, especially as part of what is referred to as “spatial turn”. As with the similar concept proposed earlier by Ernst Curtius, it is focused on topics treated as the autonomous component of an anonymous, unpersonal, and in fact unhistorical discourse. On the contrary, the article tends to prove that travelling theories were always strongly connected with travelling theorists. In contrast, the author attempts to consider the interrelations between the two conceptions of anthropology: the philosophical and the linguistic, taking into account the material left in texts connected with the journey from Göteborg to New York by Roman Jakobson and Ernst Cassirer. The reconstruction of their possible discussions on board proves that the boundary between their projects, usually drawn in the history of culture, is weaker than could be supposed. Morskie i zamorskie podróże idei antropologiiArtykuł podejmuje dyskusję z koncepcją antropologii kulturowej wyłonioną po tzw. zwrocie spacjalnym i skupioną na wędrówkach pojęć. Ze względu na depersonalizację rozważanego materiału wciąż mieści się ona w modelu XIX-wiecznej jeszcze proweniencji, bliska historii idei i topice. Dyskusja została przeprowadzona na materiale nielicznych świadectw wiążących się z podróżą morską z Europy do USA, a w istocie ucieczką przed kolejną falą nazizmu, podczas której doszło do przypadkowego spotkania Romana Jakobsona i Ernsta Cassirera. Rekonstrukcja ich możliwych dialogów podczas piętnastu dni rejsu, wsparta na metodologicznej propozycji historii domyślnej wyprowadzonej z praktyki filologicznej Tadeusza Zielińskiego, pozwala odkryć silne związki między ich projektami, a tym samym między koncepcjami antropologii filozoficznej i antropologii lingwistycznej. Wyłaniające się ze świadectw tekstowych konwergencje podważają rozgraniczanie obu tych modernistycznych projektów, zwykle dokonywane w historii dyscypliny. Pozwalają także na reinterpretację rozpowszechnionych ujęć postawy profesjonalizmu uznawanej za typową dla uczonego nowoczesnego i utożsamianej z politycznym i społecznym niezaangażowaniem.

The topic of this article is devoted to the discussion of the ideas of cultural and social activities propounded by Professor of History, Rev. Jonas Totoraitis (1872-1941). It also deals with a question of what conditions were present for their implementation in the early twentieth century. The first idea to establish the Society to Investigate the History of Lithuania was largely predicated on his professional background as historian. Another idea was indebted to his perception of the duty of the priest. It manifested itself in the aspiration to set up a special organization (association) of Roman Catholic clergy to tackle world-view issues of society at large. Another field of Rev. Totoraitisʼ activities was organizing youth in the countryside. His most significant contribution was theoretical: a study entitled “Catholic Youth Associations”, published in the journal “Vadovas” (Leader), and some time later republished in a separate booklet “The Guardianship of Youth and Its Associations”.

This study aims to examine the current status of Chinese Confucian ideas that have affected Korean youth culture and to draw up more effective education methods. Before the experiment, Korean teenagers had preferred different teaching methods depending on their origins. However, after learning from the three teaching methods (cramming, mixed, and discussion teaching methods) for two weeks, the participants preferred the discussion method. Thus, the survey found that while Chinese Confucian ideas have a great influence on Korean youth, there is a possibility for change in preferred teaching methods.

This paper presents examples of technologies for distributed energy generation developed at the The Szewalski Institute of Fluid Flow Machinery of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Gdańsk. These are combined heat and power (CHP) units (generating heat and electricity) for houses with a power from several to tens of kW and for municipalities in the form of the Municipal Energy Centres (with a capacity of several hundred kW up to several MW). A unique project, specializing in ‘energy-plus’ technologies for individual houses and other buildings, which aims to build a Research Centre of PAS in Jabłonna is also presented. These are key technologies for energy sector with respect to distributed generation. Additionally, the article discusses the conditions and opportunities for the development of civil energy generation in our country. Civic energy generation is a great vision in which the citizen becomes an entity and do not subject to the energy market, and additionally has its virtual advisor in the form of smart grid and data processing technologies in a ‘digital cloud’.

Eugeniusz Romer’s contribution to the development of Polish geography has been extensively appreciated. Historians of geography emphasized however his contribution in the field of physical geography and map making. Meanwhile, Romer’s human geographical concepts seem to be no less original and valuable. One of the most popular ones is the geopolitical controversy between Romer and Wacław Nałkowski concerning the individual character of Polish lands. This broadly commented dispute has been showed as an example of logomachy. On the other hand, the geopolitical concept of Romer, despite the passage of 60 years since his death, should create the basis for a discussion concerning the international position of Poland.

According to Descartes ideas are the immediate objects of human mind. In "Meditationes de prima philosophia" there are three groups of ideas: "innatae", "adventitiae", "factae". However, in "Notae in Programma" Descartes says, that all human ideas must be innate. The ideas potentially exist in human mind. Descartes asserts human ideas are some kind of disposition to respond to sensory stimuli in particular way – by perceiving. The senses deliver occasions to actualizing our innate ideas. However, Descartes does not explain the way of actualizing of innate dispositions (ideas). This problem has not been resolved by now.

The present paper deals with the issue of some mutual dependencies between science and philosophy. It turns out that it is not possible easily to separate these two disciplines. All the great physical theories are entangled with notions and ideas which belong to the domain of philosophy. It is well known from the history of science that such notions and ideas very often were an important stimulus that pushed a scholar toward some strictly scientific problem and made him start working on a physical theory which would allow to solve this problem. This subject matter is presented in the article in the context of scientific as well as philosophical achievements of Albert Einstein. It is shown that some philosophical ideas considerably influenced the process of formation of his relativity theory and of his first cosmological model. Special attention is paid to the so called Mach’s Principle, which is a postulate concerning the relativity of mass, and to the idea of staticity of the universe which caused Einstein to change his field equations in such a way that they would produce a static model of the universe.

Traktat De acuto et arguto poświęcony konceptycznej strukturze epigramatu, stanowi nie tylko świadectwo barokowej teorii literatury, lecz również, czytany w dialogu z innymi pismami Sarbiewskiego, odsłania konsekwentną kosmologię rzeczywistości.
The theoretical writings of Maciej Kazimierz Sarbiewski have provided a constant focal point of scholarly interest, most often in the context of the study of problems relating to poetry’s concepts and aesthetics, the Christianization of antiquity, or the imitation of Horace. The multifaceted thought of this author, who belonged to a transitional intellectual formation in the history of European thought, can and should nonetheless likewise inspire studies in terms of the history of ideas, which place the object of knowledge at the intersection of artificially separated areas of knowledge. Sarbiewski’s treatise De acuto et arguto, devoted to his conceptist structure of the epigram, represents not only an enunciation of baroque literary theory, but also, read in dialogue with his other writings, reveals a consistent cosmological vision of reality.

If the characterization of avant-garde proposed once by Henri Saint Simon, and later maintained by Daniel Bell as well as Lidia Burska in the book entitled Awangarda i inne złudzenia. O pokoleniu ‘68 w Polsce (“The avant-garde and other illusions. On the ’68 generation in Poland”) is adopted, the philosophical revisionism inside Polish Marxism (the Warsaw school of the history of ideas) may be considered a phenomenon analogous to the artistic avant-garde which gained prominence in the middle of the 1950s. In Burska’s understanding, the significant trait of avant-garde is effective impact on the state of consciousness, stances and choices of the public. This essential factor highlights the connection between avant-garde and revisionism, due to the fact that, as it was commonly believed in Poland, the Warsaw school played a major role in the formation of the Polish post-war humanities. The purpose of the paper is to propose an understanding of the impact exerted by the Warsaw school of the history of ideas. In relation to this problem, the author refers to the testimonies of people who constituted that milieu, and he focuses on some topics from the hermeneutics of H.-G. Gadamer (the concept of the efficacy of history; the concept of application) and from the philosophy of H.R. Jauss (the concept of the horizon of expectations).

Cultural, educational and professional frameworks recognised by our civilization have been formulated as texts. Translation is the only method allowing for their global dissemination. Religions, literatures, learning theories and organizational cultures are products of translation. Yet, the relevance of translation is not only a matter of the past. It is argued in this article that translation is relevant today. In its educational aspect, translation can help realize that language differences are a resource in text comprehension and meaning making. Professional benefits of translating include language fluency that is more than a technical skill: it enables recognising nuances of meaning and sense, allowing for realistic language use. It can be a core advantage for specialists in creative industry, for industry analysts and for lots of other professionals engaging in cross-cultural interactions. Finally, being a translator one has a transversal competence of service provision.

Aim: Provide a summary of the expressed views, presentations and discussions during the ISINI14 (2020) online conference. Design: Next to rather traditional but this time online presentations, the discussions not only took place by way of oral communication, but also via an online tool. The administrators of the conference prepared in a word-processing programme a framework, where the participants could enter issues, questions and comments in real time, and react to each others writings. These issues, questions and comments were also discussed orally. The results of the exchange of new ideas are presented below, and should provide an impulse for further discussion at  ISINI online meetings in the future. Findings: In order to achieve sustainable development, protect democratic values and empower citizens in different countries with a different institutional setting, a sound balance between open markets and sound regulation should be struck at various levels. Global and regional (EU) cooperationis needed for solving challenges to sustainable development – e.g. in relation to unexpected events such as the COVID-19 pandemic and  climate (change) as a kind of public good. The paper is devoted to phenomenological ideas in conceptions of modern philosophy of mathematics. Views of Husserl, Weyl, Becker and Gödel will be discussed and analysed. The aim of the paper is to show the influence of phenomenological ideas on the philosophical conceptions concerning mathematics. We shall start by indicating the attachment of Edmund Husserl to mathematics and by presenting the main points of his philosophy of mathematics. Next, works of two philosophers who attempted to apply Husserl’s phenomenological ideas to the philosophy of mathematics, namely Hermann Weyl and Oskar Becker, will be briefly discussed. Lastly, the connections between Husserl’s ideas and the philosophy of mathematics of Kurt Gödel will be studied.

In the history of European civilisation there have been several documents of particular cultural weight and symbolic meaning. From Magna Carta Libertatum of 1215 to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights from 1948 we can trace the development of political ideas which, while being rooted in religious and philosophical thought, have had a strong impact on the lives of whole societies. In this article I attempt to look at the famous 21 Gdańsk demands from that perspective. The document, signed in August 1980 kindled a peace process which culminated in the collapse of communism in Europe. I would like to infer a relation between the possibility of signing such a document and the election of Karol Wojtyła as Pope. It also seemed interesting to compare the content of the 21 Gdańsk Agreement with that of the less well-known Rzeszów-Ustrzyki Dolne Protocol signed several months later.

We describe in this talk three methods of constructing different links with the same Jones type invariant. All three can be thought as generalizations of mutation. The first combines the satellite construction with mutation. The second uses the notion of rotant, taken from the graph theory, the third, invented by Jones, transplants into knot theory the idea of the Yang-Baxter equation with the spectral parameter (idea employed by Baxter in the theory of solvable models in statistical mechanics). We extend the Jones result and relate it to Traczyk's work on rotors of links. We also show further applications of the Jones idea, e.g. to 3-string links in the solid torus. We stress the fact that ideas coming from various areas of mathematics (and theoretical physics) has been fruitfully used in knot theory, and vice versa.

Some aspects of discounting of infinite streams of economic quantities (consumption, saving, utility) are considered. The main points of the paper may be summarized as follows. The philosophy of discounting concerns methods of evaluation and/or comparison of multi-period phenomena and processes. The techniques applied (numerical, analytical) may equalize the gravity of subsequent generations or privilege certain generations rather than other ones. They can – to some extent – influence quality of life and the chances of survival in future generations. These (quite natural) connections between discounting and intergenerational justice and sustainability have been pointed out. Systems of axioms for “ethical” and “sustainable” preferences are presented, together with some related (sub)disciplines. Inspirations derived mainly from psychology suggest the modification of the geometric discounting paradigm by slowing down the convergence of discount factors to zero. It should be pointed out that such “heavy tailed” discounting has proved to be useful (and become strongly recommended) for evaluation of a variety of long-time horizon undertakings. Some examples of non-classical discounting rules are given. Finally, the author’s proposal of modeling the duration of the world as a Poisson random variable has been formulated.

Ukierunkowanie na „katolickość” kształtującą tożsamość dla odradzającego się narodu nie ma wymiaru uniwersalistycznego dla społeczeństwa pluralistycznego. Sytuacja społeczno-polityczna tylko częściowo uzasadnia takie podejście. Podjęta przez duchownych i osoby związane z Kościołem katolickim praca społeczna pozwoliła na odbudowanie zaufania do tegoż Kościoła.
The article analyses the educational ideas and social initiatives of the period of autonomy in Galicia, revealing several important elements. Two aspects should be pointed out by taking into account the rationale of the social principles of the Catholic Church, for which the impetus was provided by Leo XIII’s encyclical Rerum novarum, The focus on ‘catholicity’ shaping an identity for a reborn nation does not have a universalist dimension for a pluralistic society. The socio-political situation only partially justifies this approach. The social work undertaken by the clergy and those associated with the Catholic Church has made it possible to rebuild trust in the Church.

Although Ahmad Kasravi presented himself as the creator of an entirely ori-ginal movement encompassing religion, society and politics, called Pakdini, one finds influences of other intellectual movements in his works. He was especially heavily influenced by various thinkers from the Qajar period, particularly Mirza Agha Khan Kermani. This paper aims to present some of these influences, focusing mostly on the impact of the above-mentioned intellectuals. This is achieved by comparing elements of Kasravi’s thought with those of the thinkers that had preceded him. At the same time, some attention is given to Kasravi’s argument that—as he differed from them in various aspects—one cannot consider these influences to be direct loans from previous intel-lectuals, which is an argument that cannot be ignored. As it seems, Kasravi created an original system, yet he borrowed many ideas from his predecessors. At the same time it may be difficult to pin-point the exact source of these influences.

Education is one of the basic pedagogical notions – it is also the most general and non-uniform of them and it can have many different forms. Each of them is connected with a specific idea (ideas), which is its driving and vital force, determining the practical educational solutions. Adopting an idea is like taking a compass into one's hand – it facilitates safely moving around in an unknown, complex and multilevel space. It facilitates but it does not prescribe what should be done. While entering into the world of pedagogical diversity, a person recognizes the richness of its meanings and its variety; one discovers multiple ways that lead to valuable social reality. A person realizes that there is not one educational idea that could lead all of the participants of the cognitive process on the only certain and right way. The person that is being educated can be „lead” according to the ideas of, for example, New Education, cultural, personal, existential, intercultural or postmodern pedagogy. The choice of the pedagogy depends on the educators (the co-creators of educational process), on their personality, on what kind of people they are, on the ideas that they are lead by, and on the information using by them, because it does matter on what „the significant” the process of education is performed. The ideas, that in my belief, are worth of being evoked and reminded of, promoted and discovered again are those enclosed in the educational ideas of J. Korczak, S. Hessen, B. Nawroczyński, K. Kotłowski, B. Suchodolski or J. Tarnowski, who is today commonly known as „Korczak in a cassock”. The suggested list of ideas is not complete or finished. The above mentioned choice is also not the result of an ascertainment, rather it is an expression of a statement, which can be useful for designing the contemporary education.
„Edukacja” to jedno z podstawowych pojęć pedagogicznych – najbardziej ogólne i niejednorodne, przybierające wiele postaci. Każdej z jej form przyświeca określona idea (idee), która jest jej siłą napędową wyznaczającą drogę dla praktycznych rozwiązań edukacyjnych. Przyjąć określoną ideę, to tak jakby wziąć do ręki kompas, który ułatwia poruszanie się po nieznanej, złożonej i wielopoziomowej przestrzeni. Ułatwia, nie nakazuje. Wchodząc w świat różnorodności pedagogicznej, człowiek dostrzega bogactwo jego znaczeń, jego rozmaitość, odkrywa wiele różnych dróg prowadzących do wartościowych społecznie realiów. Uświadamia sobie, że nie ma jednej idei pedagogicznej, która prowadziłaby wszystkich uczestników edukacji określoną, jedynie słuszną drogą. Można „prowadzić” edukowanego, kierując się ideami przewodnimi, np. Nowego Wychowania, pedagogiki kultury, personalistycznej, egzystencjalnej, międzykulturowej czy postmodernistycznej. Wybór pedagogii zależy od wychowawców/edukujących (współtwórców edukacji), od tego, jakimi są ludźmi, od idei, które ich prowadzą, od wykorzystywanych przez nich treści, nie jest bowiem obojętne, na jakich „znaczących” realizuje się edukacja. Idee, które – w moim przekonaniu – warto przywoływać, przypominać, na nowo odsłaniać, promować wypełniają pedagogiczne koncepcje: J. Korczaka, S. Hessena, B. Nawroczyńskiego, K. Kotłowskiego, B. Suchodolskiego czy współcześnie nazywanego „Korczakiem w sutannie” J. Tarnowskiego. Zaproponowana „lista” koncepcji nie jest zamknięta, skończona. Powyższy wybór nie jest też wynikiem konstatacji, lecz wyrazem stanowiska, jakie może się okazać użyteczne do projektowania współczesnej edukacji.

The purpose of this paper is a short presentation of some types of restrictions imposed by predicates upon the objects selected as their own arguments. We investigate several grammar procedures used by languages in order to classify objects in argument positions. We will also discuss the relations between these selections and different cultural schemes which can affect the classification and determine the use of linguistic forms. Theoretical instrument applied is the semantic theory known as semantic grammar or semantic syntax.

Florian Znaniecki – a representative of humanistic sociology – claims in his works that a nation is a product of civilization, a cultural group, organized on the principle of leadership. As a spiritual community it can exist independently of the territory and state organization, it is historically variable, its existence is determined by culture that encompasses the entire work of a nation, all material- technical, intellectual, artistic and aesthetic products as well as a language and other symbols as means of communication, all patterns of behaviour and actions, values and ideals (freedom, justice, honor) and standards arising from them. National culture, customs, religious worship, beliefs and ideals of national historical tradition are shared values and national groups are potentially available to all members of the group. “The principle of separateness” of a nation as a cultural group is shared culture. In democratic conditions of the Third Republic of Poland circumstances for the functioning and development of various types of societies based on the criteria of identity were created. In accordance with F. Znaniecki’s intention, national and ethnic groups can develop national culture or pursue shared cultural ideals. The article is an attempt to answer the question: "To what extent are the ideas of F. Znaniecki’s national society implemented in the Third Republic of Poland?" Referring to the literature, the author presents the ideas of F. Znaniecki’s national society, selected institutions and national organizations operating in the Third Republic of Poland.

The author attempts to reconstruct a short history of modern Polish literary studies not from the perspective of schools or methodological orientations that are usually applied, but from the perspective of what is known in sociology as cultural themes. This point of view offers the opportunity to (re)construct the process of continuity /discontinuity in the whole field of research focused on the problem of reference, which has been recognized as the most important one in Polish studies (as well as in Polish literature, and art) since its beginning in the first decade of the 20th century. In the broader scope the article attempts to rearticulate the definition of the discipline conventionally called “the theory of literature”, and to propose a new way of writing its history.

Opis:
Novel ideas for lossless audio coding analyzed in the paper are linked with forward predictor adaptation, and concern optimization of predictors on the basis of zero-order entropy and MMAE criterions, and context sound coding. Direct use of the former criterion is linked with exponential growth of optimization procedure, hence, a suboptimal algorithm having polynomial complexity is proposed. It is shown that on average the new types of predictors are better than those obtained by MMSE technique, while two- and three context systems are on average better than a single predictor one. It also appears that 7-bit PARCOR coefficients in the MPEG-4 ALS standard have insufficient precision for some predictor length, and that for very long frames coding results improve with the predictor rank practically in unlimited way.
