The purpose of the article is to present the results of empirical research concerning solutions used in the strategy implementation process by companies recognized as effective in achieving their strategic goals. Based on the results of the research, a model of improving the strategy implementation process was proposed. In the theoretical part the method of analysis and critical review of the literature was used. The technique used in the empirical study was PAPI. In order to investigate relationships, Cramer’s V coefficient was calculated. The main findings of the study allow us to conclude that there are some specific solutions from the following areas: organisational structure, communication and motivation, cooperation, implementation tools and methods, and control, which particularly effectively support the strategy implementation.

Opis:
Ensuring freedom from threats to security subjects requires the elaboration of a security strategy. The relationship between security strategy and development strategy is the same as that between security and development themselves – one determines the other. For this reason, the purpose of this article is to discuss the essence of security and its basic conceptual categories, as well as the implementation of its provision through strategic efforts. At the beginning, the essence of the phenomenon of security is presented and the most important definitions are quoted. Similarly, the author discusses the concept of strategy and shows the evolution of its understanding. This allows to discuss the typology of security strategies and to mention the most important figures that became part of history thanks to their achievements in the theory of strategy, including Sun Tzu, Thucydides, Alexander the Great, Napoleon Bonaparte. A few of the most important principles formulated by these figures are recalled, which may be important hints for contemporary strategists as well. Finally, the author gives the most important definitions of ideas related to security: the security environment, the interests of the security subject, opportunities, challenges, risks, threats, rules and methods. Their essence is emphasized in the light of the considerations presented above. The author concludes that the strategic categories are superior to the respective political categories and distinguishes three types of contemporary strategic actions. He also recognizes that the biggest challenge in terms of security is the prevention of threats, e.g. by means of stabilization activities whose essence is to maintain and promote the stability of the security environment.

The aim of the study is to show the impact of investments in photovoltaic installations carried out by local government units on the implementation of the objectives of the climate and energy package in the Rzeszów Functional Area (ROF). It has been shown that such an important problem as the need to increase the share of renewable energy sources (RES) in electricity production is also solved locally. The methods of in-depth interview, case study and desk research were used. The application of modern technologies in the field of energy production with the use of photovoltaic cells in the ROF area is to contribute in 2019-2035 to the reduction of CO2 emissions; to the increase in the production of electricity from RES, and to the reduction of the use of fossil fuels for the production of electricity. Diversification of energy sources, also at local and individual level, can be beneficial not only for the environment, but also for the budget of energy consumers.

The purpose of this study is to examine the links between generic strategy types and organizationalperformance. Moreover, this paper will attempt to discover whether or not the emphasis onplanning strategy implementation will enhance a company with superior performance. This paperstudied 104 Georgian based manufacturing companies. A questionnaire was chosen as the surveyinstrument. The respondents selected were CEOs of the manufacturing companies being surveyed.Findings of this study are based on the results of the hypotheses tests which indicate that companieswith clearly defined business strategies are performing better. The group of companies with integratedstrategies had better performance than those concentrating on either of them. This contradicts theidea that it is not effective to use a combination of cost-leadership and differentiation strategy becauseof their exclusivity. There were no strong ties established between the strategic type and the planningof strategic implementation. Moreover, companies placing emphasis on planning strategy implementationhave better performances than those “stuck in the middle”. The results of this study are particularlyuseful for practitioners, as it can provide managers with the information connected with strategyformulation and implementation processes. This study makes a contribution to the existing literatureby exploring strategy processes within Georgian based manufacturing companies, and addressing theinconclusiveness of the results of generic strategies and organizational performance.

It is not only growth and development that is of value to local, regional and central governments, but also the ability to absorb negative phenomena and the ability to continuously transform socio-economic systems. Resilience strategies thus serve as a response to the more and more frequent and intense natural, social and economic challenges. In some approaches to urban resilience, special attention is paid to activities undertaken by cities to become inclusive, integrated, robust, resourceful, reflective, redundant and flexible. In regional strategies the emphasis is on diversity, dispersion, mutuality and modularity. The aim of the paper is to synthesise selected qualities of resilient cities and regions into a new model of resilience strategy. It assumes that goals at each level of strategy are formulated according to adaptive interpretation of the resilience concept. Development of such model would enable the use of the concept by practitioners responsible for creating development strategies.

The article uses narrative techniques to explore the role of a fact in literary works. A. Adamovich’s autobiographical novel “Vixi” that serves as illustrative material has been analyzed. The purpose of the article is to examine a literary work at several textual levels: “event – naration – discourse”, “events in the novel – historical context (internal and external chronotope)”, the relationship of “author – narator – reader”. It is argued that the fact in the process of a narrative story cannot remain unchanged – a subjective interpretation of the writer expressed by narrator’s words changes it explicitly. It is emphasized that the fact can be used as a trigger for deploying the main action or changing the style of writing. For A. Adamovich self-reflection as the way of understanding reality is a means to create the world model which represents clear polarization.

The article features the problem of strategic approach in logistics. In the first part of the article the need of strategic insight into companies activities was stressed resulting most of all from more and more dynamic transformations taking place in their environment. Only using the strategic management tools may meet such challenges of managing a logistic system. The main pillars of strategic approach in logistics include the environment and strategy. Consequently, the logistic system environment and its structure was defined and methods of its analysis were presented. Scenario (qualitative) and non-scenario (quantitative) concepts of analysis were recognized as the basic ways of researching the logistic system environment. The macro environment concept was adapted directly from management sciences, whereas the micro environment structure was based on a modification of a model designed by M.E. Porter. The article also points out various possibilities to take advantage of H.I. Ansoff s and E.M. Porter's concepts relating to forming logistic strategies. Thus the importance of logistic strategies operating in higher than functional way was shown.

Since the second half of the twentieth century, the global economy began to emerge trends and today exert a significant influence on the strategic behavior of companies, namely, the constant search for ways to maximize the company’s value, and constant adaptation to the increasing variability of the environment and intense competition. To date, foreign and domestic researchers continue to actively investigate the problem of strategic management and, given these characteristics of modern competitive environment as amorphous and naddynamichnist, create new approaches to business strategies. The study of competence -oriented approach based on the concepts of strategic management laid K.K.Prahaladom and H.Hamelom. Many works devoted to the study of competence -based approach and Dzh.Ris A.Drezher researchers, which identified the main provisions of the approach. F.Amess, A.Avadikyan and P.Kohendet in their studies combining resource- oriented and of competence-oriented approaches into a single concept of strategic management firms that their activities are based on knowledge (so-called «knowledge-based firms»). Authors D.Dzh.Tis, H.Pisano A.Shuen and, in turn, noted that the selection of areas of competence of the firm is solely the result of the evolution of its routine operations.

Purpose: Strategy determines the patterns of internationalization. The speed, scale, and scope of internationalization are important dimensions from the perspective of firms’ behaviors and activ ities. The aim of the article is to identify and verify the relationship between the international strategy and its impact on three dimensions of the studied phenomenon. Methodology: The article uses a quantitative approach. The survey was conducted on a sample of 355 internationalized firms from Poland, varying in size. Findings: The analysis with t test and U test (ANOVA) shows a correlation between a company’s international strategy as a planning instrument and the speed and scope of internationalization. Research limitations/implications: While considering a firm’s development, especially its inter national growth, one should plan the activities related to entering into foreign markets. The results presented in this article are just a starting point for further analyses. In an attempt to eliminate its limitations, further research should focus on building a comprehensive model that includes the remaining components of international strategy and other categories that stimulate international ization processes. Originality: The originality of this article lies in three elements: (i) the article comprehensively captures the scale, scope, and speed of internationalization at the same time, (ii) the strategy is introduced as a determining factor of the scale, scope, and speed of internationalization, and (iii) the article enriches empirical studies about emerging markets such as Poland.

The publication contains selected results of the research on the marketing strategies used by companies operating on the Polish market. The basis for the formulated theses are the results of a survey conducted by the Department of Marketing at the University of Economics in 2013 on the scope and conditions of use of marketing by companies. The main objective of the study was to answer the question on how much the 25th anniversary of the functioning of the market economy in Poland led to changes in the use of marketing in the process of business management.
Artykuł zawiera wybrane wyniki badania, dotyczącego stosowanych przez przedsiębiorstwa prowadzące działalność na polskim rynku strategii marketingowych. Bazą dla formułowanych tez są wyniki badania przeprowadzonego przez Katedrę Marketingu Uniwersytetu Ekonomicznego w Krakowie w 2013 roku na temat zakresu i uwarunkowań wykorzystania marketingu przez przedsiębiorstwa. Głównym celem badania była próba odpowiedzi na pytanie, w jakim stopniu 25-lecie funkcjonowania gospodarki rynkowej w Polsce wpłynęło na zmiany w zakresie wykorzystania marketingu w procesie zarządzania przedsiębiorstwami. Przedstawione wyniki dotyczą najważniejszego komponentu strategii marketingowej, tj. strategii nakierowanej na klientów.

Purpose: to build the research model of Entrepreneurial Digital Strategy (EDS) as crucial managerial tool for shaping hospitals as smart, network oriented organisations. Design/methodology/approach: the main research method is a systematic literature review in order to conceptualize the EDS as crucial driver of shaping hospitals as smart, network oriented organisations. Statistical analyses using data from OECD Health were used to present chosen input and output indicators of Polish national healthcare system. Findings: the proposition of research model of EDS as the digital technology road map towards building the smart hospital based on cost and quality performance healthcare processes. Additionally, using chosen statistical data, the Polish national healthcare system in the world context is presented. Research limitations/implications: the concept of smart organization is still not widely recognized in management science, so it is difficult to create detailed model of hospital assessment as a smart organization. Simultaneously, the current scientific output consulting company knowledge in this field is enough to create especially strategic concepts of smart hospital. Practical implications: the draft of practical managerial tool for hospital managers who are going to transform their hospitals towards smart ones is presented in the article. Social implications: the article has a special social impact which consist of strategic management concept oriented towards managing the challenges of today hospitals (esp. public ones). These challenges are concentrated on simultaneous need for quality growth and cost reduction. Originality/value: the concept presented in the article is the part of assumptions of new managerial model suited for hospital transformation towards smart organization.

We współczesnych publikacjach z zakresu marketingu spotykamy się z ogólnymi stwierdzeniami o istniejących zależnościach między strategią marketingową a innymi strategiami funkcjonalnymi. W szczególności odnosi się to do relacji między strategią marketingową a strategią finansowania. Zarówno w literaturze marketingu, jak i literaturze finansów problemy te są jednak omawiane najczęściej w całkowitej odrębności. Rzadko natomiast spotkać można publikacje zawierające wyniki badań odnoszące się do relacji między w/w strategiami. W praktyce działania przedsiębiorstw nie jest jednak możliwe przygotowanie strategii marketingowej bez wskazania wielkości środków finansowych niezbędnych do realizacji celów marketingowych, źródeł tych środków i narzędzi umożliwiających korzystanie z różnych źródeł finansowania. Zależności między w/w strategiami pojawiają się w trakcie przygotowania działań marketingowych, ich realizacji i oceny ich efektów. Przy konstruowaniu strategii marketingowej i ocenie jej efektów należy także wskazać na zależności między marketingiem a rachunkowością zarządczą.
Both in the marketing and financing related literature, the topic of interconnections between these two areas is rather rare, as they tend to be discussed independently. In practice, however, it is not possible to prepare a marketing strategy without any indication of the source and size of the financial resources needed to achieve marketing objectives. The company’s profit and profitability are determined by the appropriate preparation and execution of the company’s marketing strategy. The range and intensity of the company’s marketing activities, in turn, depend on the level of the company’s profitability and profit. In consequence all the marketing decisions in the company have a financial aspect since they involve certain costs and bring about financial effects in the form of the company’s revenue. The aim of this paper is to determine the substance of this relationship and to highlight the connection between marketing and management accounting, particularly from the perspective of the publications concerning the latter. This paper has been inspired by research in domestic and foreign literature on marketing and management accounting, as well as on controlling.

Over the last decade, the concept of hybrid warfare has aroused great in-terest among the global community dealing with security issues, both military, and non-military. The specificity of hybrid warfare is that the fight is not for territories, but for the minds, and attitudes of citizens of other countries, and the means of combat are very sophisticated. Any hybrid war is based on a strategy that involves achievement victory by setting goals, overall plan and systematic impact on ene-my's vulnerabilities using a hybrid threat complex. In connection with the above, the aim of the article is to present the role of the strategy in waging hybrid war-fare, as well as in developing mechanisms to counteract hybrid threats.
W ciągu ostatniej dekady koncepcja wojny hybrydowej wzbudziła duże za-interesowanie światowej społeczności zajmującej się problematyką bezpieczeń-stwa, zarówno militarnego, jak i pozamilitarnego. Specyfika wojny hybrydowej polega na tym, że walka nie toczy się o terytoria, ale o umysły i postawy obywateli innych państw, a środki walki są bardzo wyrafinowane. Każda wojna hybrydowa opiera się na strategii, która zakłada osiągnięcie zwycięstwa poprzez wyznaczanie celów, ogólny plan i systematyczne oddziaływanie na podatności wroga przy uży-ciu kompleksu zagrożeń hybrydowych. W związku z powyższym, celem artykułu jest przedstawienie roli jaką pełni strategia w prowadzeniu wojny hybrydowej, a także w opracowaniu mechanizmów przeciwdziałania zagrożeniom hybrydowym.

Nowadays, innovations are necessary conditions for enterprise sustainable development. Moreover marketing strategy is the crucial element of ensures diffusion of innovation. The purpose of marketing strategy is to conduct market analyze, segment the market, develop marketing approach, right product portfolio and finally marketing plan. This article highlights the comprehensive role of marketing strategies for innovations. The results show, that marketing analyze for marketing strategy enables enterprises to go beyond the solely understanding of customer needs, thus enabling them to develop unexpected innovations. Marketing strategies also help companies to overcome barriers, associated with innovation commercialization. At the same time innovations can be a trigger for new marketing methods and instruments.

With a staggering growth of Chinese economy seeming a permanent feature of the years to come, the question of enhancement of the People’s Republic of China regional posture and its influence over the whole international system is becoming one of the major challenges of our time. In recent years many notable authors have observed a success of Chinese official’s efforts to improve the relations with the neighbours and all the major world powers. Starting from the role played by China in the regional security architecture of East Asia and its historical background, this paper analyses the latest developments in Chinese policy towards the region in the broader context and tries to identify the China's strategy and its potential risks and benefits for the international community. The author argues that in spite of potential drawbacks the process of gradual integration of PRC into the existing world order have moved dramatically ahead and tries to explain the intentions hidden behind Beijing's regional and global political initiatives.

In this article the problem concerning the politics etymology and safety strategy in the conditions of challenges and risks of XXI century is considered by the author. Furthermore the necessity to define the politics and strategy in the subjective and objective areas is justified. At this point the author strictly stresses the significance of these two categories of concepts in respect to the national and global safety strategy. In his considerations, the author does not diminish the significance of the safety strategy in relation to the politics as the science about state, but consciously places the politics at the first position, because the politics generates and defines precisely the perspective aims regarding safety. Strategy specifies the methods, manners and means of realization of these purposes respectively. The special authors attention is paid to the need of scientific analysis of semantic contents of these two categories of terminology and its mutual relations. In order to achieve the goals specified by the politics, the conditions of its realization by the means of safety strategy must exist.

DEMATEL technique is a graphical representation method to deal with complex systems. The final analyzed cause and effect categorization would be fundamentally dependent on the threshold value setting. This research is intended to present some mathematical models for calculating the threshold value in the DEMATEL method. The min(max) operator has been intentionally used for considering three equations to identify the threshold value. Additionally, the proposed mathematical equations are gradually developed to gain more useful data to yield a threshold value as well. Particularly, the expert’s initial scoring for building the primary matrix would also be applied in one equation. Results show eliciting an expert’s opinions regarding the value of a threshold value determination leads to setting relatively high thresholds. But, there would be an equation which takes advantage of more data derived from the total influence matrix T. Moreover, a span of different threshold values is gained by making use of the Hamacher t-conorms operator which especially would cause better complexity management of the final total matrix T based on expert’s opinions. As a contribution to this research, threshold value determination is developed mathematically by making use of the direct data gained by the total matrix T. Besides combining data derived from total matrix T, the initial influence direct matrix given by experts, a simpler aggregating procedure and no need for statistical information compared to special Lenth’s method hints at this research’s novelty as well.

Make-To-Stock (MTS) and Make-To-Order (MTO) are the two traditional strategies in production management. In the case of the MTS there is a growing demand for a new approach, which is called Make-To-Availability (MTA) strategy. The paper characterizes and compares the MTS and MTA strategies. The comparative analysis based, among others, on computational experiments carried out in a computer program developed in Microsoft Visual Studio 2017 Environment was presented. The models have been prepared for both strategies with the same assumptions: external conditions (market demand) and internal conditions (structure of the production process). The investigation of how the strategies respond to various scenarios of demand intensity was done. The simulation models were prepared and validated for the case of the production line in one of the industrial automation company. The research shows that the use of the MTA strategy in the majority of cases gives much better results than the use of the MTS strategy due to the minimization of storage costs and the costs of non-fulfillment of the customers’ demand. The directions for further research were also presented.

The aim of this study is to determine the recognition and awareness of systemic strategies within the realm of practical business operations at three different levels of the organizational hierarchy. Two research hypotheses have been formulated. H1: The implemented strategy will be described as systemic. H2: Employees will assert the implementation of strategies through a systemic approach. The hypotheses were tested using a questionnaire survey administered to a convenience sample of postgraduate/post-diploma working students associated with sales functions. The survey included 1,400 respondents, divided into a pre-pandemic sample of 1,050 individuals and a post-pandemic sample of 350 individuals. A combination of traditional paper questionnaires and computer-assisted telephone interviews (CATI) was used to collect responses. The analysis of the survey responses reveals that the respondents from both the 2019 and 2022 cohorts do not affirm the existence of systemic strategies within their respective organizations. Furthermore, they do not claim that these strategies are implemented from a systemic perspective.

In a permanent changing security environment, the Republic of Moldova, a small state situated at the Eastern flank of Europe, is struggling to find her path in between two possible strategic ways – either towards Europe, or coming back to the Russian sphere of influence. The political situation and international influence from these areas are not easing decisions of the Moldovan leaders. On one hand, there is a real and permanent political and military support being received by the Moldovan Authorities from NATO, the EU, Romania and the United States in key domains like: migration and asylum, justice, local administration, transparency and e-governance, and Sector Security Reform (SSR). On the other hand, the pressure put by Moscow on central authorities from Chisinau, as well as the anti-European measures undertaken by proRussian parties from Moldova, balanced all positive reactions of pro-European population and negatively influenced the political, social and cultural life of Moldavians. SSR is the most developed and supported domain that has a strong impact on the possible future position of the Republic of Moldova in Europe.

The main objective of this paper is to present the main tasks included in the development of strategies (for local communities) and their further implementation. The study is empirically-oriented, since it is based on surveys carried out in selected communities in the Lower Silesia region. This paper is focused mainly on aspects which are important for the improvement of living conditions of local communities. It examines the level of awareness about the strategy among the inhabitants of examined communities, as well as the inhabitants’ assessment of its implementation. A preliminary analysis of our results has shown that the preparation and implementation of strategies in Lower Silesian communities should be improved. It has been suggested that the residents’ participation designing the strategy is also essential. Noteworthy, in the surveyed communities the activities which are carried out lead to positive changes. However, the directions of those strategies have not been discussed with the residents of the communities. It has also been observed that their realization is not consistent with the studies and developmental plans.

IT governance principles and ITSM methodologies are more and more often used by contemporary organisations. Big companies are usually aware of their advantages. But the question arises, if small and medium enterprises are also familiar with these philosophies and methods, since there is a considerable number of barriers hindering their implementation, e.g.: complexity of methodologies, overwork, lack of awareness, lack of knowledge of actual IT trends, lack of trainings offered to SMEs and natural reluctance to changes. In this paper the level of IT governance and ITSM awareness in SMEs operating on six regions in Western and Central Europe on the basis of a survey conducted within them is analysed. Four criteria have been taken under consideration: IT strategy, awareness of contemporary IT trends, implemented or planned projects and methods of investment in IT.

In this paper a new optimization algorithm based on Differential Evolution, non-dominated sorting strategy and neighborhood exploration strategy for guaranteeing convergence and diversity through the generation of neighborhoods of different sizes to potential candidates in the population is presented. The performance of the algorithm proposed is validated by using standard test functions and metrics commonly adopted in the specialized literature. The sensitivity analysis of some relevant parameters of the algorithm is performed and compared with the classical DE algorithm without the strategy of neighborhood exploration and with other state-of-the-art evolutionary algorithms.

Dynamiczne otoczenie oraz bardzo szybki rozwój technologii informacyjnych mają ogromny wpływ na zmiany modeli biznesowych. Zmienia się sposób zarządzania informacją; korzyści nie płyną już głównie ze standardowych, wbudowanych w oprogramowanie najlepszych praktyk, lecz z umiejętnego wykorzystania oprogramowania i infrastruktury IT do wspierania głównych procesów biznesowych w przedsiębiorstwie. Wsparcie procesów nie jest moż-liwe bez określenia i wypracowania właściwych relacji pomiędzy strategią informacyjną a strategią biznesu. Celem rozważań jest przedstawienie specyfiki relacji strategii biznesu i strategii informacyjnej w przedsiębiorstwach oraz szukanie odpowiedzi na pytanie dotyczące roli technologii informacyjno-komunikacyjnych (ICT) w budowaniu wartości firmy. W artykule przedstawiono różne podejścia do tworzenia modelu biznesu, które umożliwiają skuteczne wprowadzanie zmian w organizacji. Scharakteryzowano trzy modele budowania strategii informacyjnej: model strategii informacyjne według Earla, model strategii informacyjnej wg Beyon-Daviesa, model strategii informacyjnej według Mockera i Teubnera. W ostatniej części artykułu przedstawiono model strategii informacyjnej współpracującej ze strategią biznesu, umożliwiający zastosowanie nowego podejścia, które mówi iż źródłem budowania wartości firmy nie są same technologie informacyjno-komunikacyjne, ale ich umiejętne zastosowanie w zależności od rodzaju prowadzonej działalności.
The dynamic environment and a very fast development of information technologies have a great impact on changes of the business models. The manner of information management is changing; benefits are not any longer stemming mainly from the standard, built-in in the software best practices but from a skilful use of the software and IT infrastructure for supporting the main business processes at the enterprise. That support of the processes is not possible without the definition and development of proper relationships between the information strategy and the business strategy. An aim of the article is to present the specificity of relationships between the business strategy and the information strategy at enterprises as well as to seek for an answer to the question about the role of information and communications technologies (ICT) in building company’s goodwill. In their article, the authors presented various approaches to creating the business model, which enable an effective introduction of changes within the organisation. They characterised three models of building the information strategy: the model of information strategy by Earl, the model of information strategy by Beyon-Davies, the model of information strategy by Mocker and Teubner. In the last part of the article, the authors presented the model of information strategy cooperating with the business strategy, enabling application of a new approach which says that the source of building company’s goodwill are not the information and communication technologies alone but their skilful application depending on the type of activities carried out.

The research focuses on analysing the function of slang in modern cartoons (Madagascar 2, Kung Fu Panda, Shrek, Open Season, Cars) as well as translation strategies used to convey accurate meaning. Our data from film scripts (163 examples containing slang terms) has proved that slang, as an important part of cartoons’ verbal component, should be and mainly retained in translation. Excerpts from original cartoons scripts show slang use, that may function both for the protagonists’ characterisation and for the mapping of humor (carnivalesque) world picture. Componential analysis of meaning – breaking down the sense of slang terms into their minimal distinctive features – was used to determine the meaning of lexemes and reconstruct semantic domains actively verbalised by slang. The assumption has been made that due to the universality of domains slang can be potentially translated in most cases. Componential analysis is particularly applicable to semantically related lexemes (in one language or comparable ones). A thorough analysis of slang translation showed the employment of the following strategies: stylistic compensation (50.3%), literal translation (44.7%), omission (4.9%) and cultural equivalence (0.1%). As seen, a substantial proportion of the slang words can be translated from English into Ukrainian without significant loss of meaning. The neutralisation of slang appears to be inevitable in some cases.

This knowledge can be relatively easily processed and developed, in particular with regard to the development of technology in the CAM. Additionally subjected to simulation analysis allows comparison of different strategies and variations of part in the design of technology. Several years of authors experience in the analysis of the work ‘s CAM systems in many companies has enabled the formulation of universal principles of numerical simulations that take into account the individual characteristics of the workpiece and the specificity of the selected CNC machine with accessories. Conducted research on the production based on Catia V5 program and Mastercam X6 confirmed the validity of this approach and helped to correcting some of the assumptions developed algorithm.

The search for the main determinant of business strategy of an organization does not have a clear solution. Intuitively, it seems that it should be a customer, but in practice of management, the primary criterion according to which the company management is assessed is the economic profit. The main purpose of this article is to identify the client’s place and the role in the management strategies of business organizations. The authors analyse this place and role, using historical perspective, particularly concentrating on resource based view, innovative strategy and networks strategy. The whole analysis is finished with the concept of organization ecosystem, in which a client is a central point.

The paper concerns the basic methododlical issues of defining and measuring the impact of strategy and logistics on companies' performance. The literature review reveals a lack of empirical research on the relationship between generic strategies like cost leadership and differentiation, the extent of use of integrative logistics practices and performance. A conceptual framework is proposed for assessing the relationships between the three variables outlining their dimensions and content. It is concluded that the key to competitive success is to choose the appropriate strategy and develop the corresponding logistics capabilities including the management capability to consolidate knowledge and skills in the supply chain. Three hepotheses are raised and the models undelying them are discussed. Some recommendations are made in relation to the methods used for testing the hypotheses. The framework is a basis for conducting an empirical study on the role of logistics in mediating the impact of strategy on performance.

Many documents produced by the EU, including the Europe 2020 Strategy, advocate the assumption that the European Union member states will strive to achieve sustainable development, which therefore needs to be measured with comparable parameters. The research objective was to evaluate sustainable growth indicators in Poland against the background of the same indicators in the European Union, and to ‘estimate’ chances to achieve the objectives set in the Europe 2020 Strategy. Two hypotheses were put forward in the study: a large number of indicators analysed by the Main Statistical Office in Poland allows forecasting the achievement of Poland’s objectives adopted in the Strategy; the most difficult to achieve will be the goal of financing research and development. In Poland, not all the changes were beneficial. The EU as a whole has the chance to approximate to the set value of the indicators. Both hypotheses were verified.
Wiele dokumentów opracowanych przez UE, w tym strategia „Europa 2020”, opowiada się za założeniem, że państwa członkowskie Unii Europejskiej będą dążyć do osiągnięcia zrównoważonego rozwoju, który w związku z tym należy mierzyć za pomocą porównywalnych parametrów. Celem badań była ocena wskaźników zrównoważonego wzrostu w Polsce na tle tych samych wskaźników w Unii Europejskiej oraz „oszacowanie” szans na osiągnięcie celów określonych w strategii „Europa 2020”. W badaniu wysunięto dwie hipotezy: duża liczba wskaźników analizowanych przez Główny Urząd Statystyczny w Polsce (GUS) pozwala prognozować realizację celów Polski przyjętych w strategii. Najtrudniejszy do osiągnięcia będzie cel finansowania badań i rozwoju. W Polsce nie wszystkie zmiany były korzystne. UE jako całość ma szansę zbliżyć się do ustalonej wartości wskaźników. Obie hipotezy zostały zweryfikowane.

U.S. foreign policy towards Russia is of the utmost importance for the national security of the countries on the NATO eastern flank. Grand strategies are among the analytical concepts for classification and analysis of U.S. actions in the international arena. This paper uses grand strategy classification framework to classify and analyse U.S. strategy towards Russia from 2001 to 2017. 36 speeches about Russia by U.S. Presidents George Bush and Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden from 2001 to 2017 were used in content analysis. U.S. grand strategy classification framework was used as the tool for coding and classifying different foreign policy elements within these speeches to identify different approaches towards Russia. The content analysis allowed to identify nine stages in U.S. policy towards Russia from 2001 to 2017. The most significant shift during this period was in 2014 when after Russia’s aggression in Ukraine U.S. strategy towards Russia shifted from liberal internationalism towards primacy. Ideas of liberal internationalist and increasingly primacist grand strategies do influence U.S. foreign policy towards Russia. The grand strategy classification framework offers a valuable tool for analyzing, classifying and identifying different foreign policy stages in U.S foreign policy towards Russia.

The paper presents the results of an empirical study of the impact of strategy and logistics on company performance and of the role of logistics in mediating the impact of strategy on performance. The research revealed that companies pursuing differentiation strategy demonstrate better performance and higher internal and external integration of the management of material and related to them flows. The results proved that logistics measured with definite practices plays a role in mediating the impact of differentiation strategy on competitiveness. In particular, the practices that reflect the positive influence of differentiation strategy on competitiveness are: developing technological capabilities for the management of logistics activities and for information sharing between supply chain members; practices related mainly to communication and relational issues; and achieving greater integration within the company and in the supply chain as well.

Electronic systems work in different conditions of exploitation. Because of specific nature of their application (such as transport for example), they should be characterized by a high level of coefficient of the readiness. When carrying out a proper reliability analysis of systems can be determined such reliability structures, which will be characterized by the appropriate values of rates of reliability. Such an approach provides to improvement of the reliability of the designed systems. However not to the full extent, it is not possible to achieve the system's readiness at the appropriately high level to the full extent. The paper presents a methodology to optimize the process of exploitation these systems, taking into account economic conditions, such as of financial expenses designed on periodical reviews and the effectiveness of their use. There is presented the dependence that maximizes the value of the coefficient of the readiness in the defined reliability (failures rate), exploitation (intensity of repairs, intensity of maintenance service) and economic conditions (financial outlays earmarked for periodic inspections).

In the age of globalization, it appears that a good strategy should include the perspective of the future situation of the industry and orientation on the existing capacity in the form of tangible and intangible assets. Modern concepts of strategic planning place an increasing value on the intangible resources, it concerns particularly people and their knowledge, intellectual values incorporated in the patents, documentation, databases. It exposes the role of intellectual capital as a key success factor. The core competencies of the organization that can be configured to create a real economic value play an important role in this process. Their biggest advantage is the fact that they are rare, unique and irreplaceable by other resources, hence they are difficult to copy by the competitors. The aim of this article is to present the characteristic of the core competencies of the organization and their assignment to the various functions of the strategies that can be identified in the process of its creation. The results of the literature research are a list of the key features of functional strategies and a presentation of the impact of competence on individual tasks strategy.

It seems obvious that 10th century was a period in which the Byzantine polemology flourished once again, before it collapsed one hundred years later. During that period numerous authors of Byzantine military treaties instructed imperial commanders how to wage war. Among many issues organization of the campaign was always an important aspect. In this paper I will try to clarify selected problems. First, I will try to specify what the soldiers ate on a daily basis. Next, I will determine to what extent the provisioning system met the expectations and needs of the Byzantines fighting for the empire. With the help of Tactica and Sylloge Tacticorum, I will try to explain how the rations were gathered, transported and protected. Finally, I will specify how the supplies were utilized not only as a means of nourishment, but also as a tool of war. The following research was carried out on the basis of military treaties from the 10th century, since this time was the peak of Byzantine military revival. Although I mainly base my research on the work of Leon the Wise and the anonymous treaty known as Sylloge Tacticorum, I also occasionally refer to other works, such as Peri Strategias, De velitatione and Praecepta Militaria.

The reason for considering the above mentioned contepts was experience gained by the author during internships in one of the polish firms engaded in professional consulting in the field of purchising process optimalisation. In the article an attempt was made to define the traditional way of purchising in average polish company and to show the reasons for such a situation. On the basis of such defined and simplified purchasing activities it was shown that it is complex and hard process requiring well-thought-of and planned strategy.There was also the importance of quality of human resources in the realisation of this strategy discussed. The author showed the meaning of interdisciplinarity of purchasing organisations responsibility. There was signallised, what is the importance of modern information tools for discessed processes. The author tried to give arguments, how to build relations between buyer and supplier. Should they be based on profit maximalisations or on relations between partners? The growth of awarness of the firms connected to the necessarity of process based approach to company management was shown.

During the time of sudden and unforeseen changes, a company may not assume a single strategy and indefinitely continue to pursue its objectives. The phenomenon of globalisation transforms the company environment, the company employees and the company itself. A question which must be asked is whether the individuals managing companies are aware that when they are making strategic decisions they are always following a certain perspective of strategy description. For that purpose, the author of this paper presents various approaches to strategy management – ranging from traditional to contemporary. Nonetheless, the overriding objective of this paper is the presentation of the author’s own method of identifying approaches to strategy in management or more broadly, in strategic management. The nature of the method is the allocation of points/scores to features which characterise a given company, and the subsequent assessment of these features by that company. Both values constitute a weighted value which in percentage terms depicts the approach structure to a strategy within the analysed entity. The research conducted (presented in the paper), despite the relatively limited number of subjects analysed, suggests to a certain extent that the method proposed may be used as a tool to classify a given entity in relation to the individual approaches to strategy.

Jest to zasługa głównie spójnej koncepcji oraz łatwych do zrozumienia oraz do praktycznego zastosowania narzędzi, pozwalających na budowę skutecznej strategii rozwoju przedsiębiorstwa.
The paper is devoted to the concept of blue ocean strategy proposed by the researchers: W. Chan Kim and Renée Mauborgne. It was formulated as a result of several years of studies on the essence of strategic moves of enterprises. Alongside being the influential theory, the concept offered a high level of operationalization, which attracted a wide circle of practitioners of management. It is constituted by a coherent structure as well as easily comprehensible and practical instruments allowing for efficient building of potentially effective strategy.

The phrase ‘rural areas’ mean not only the place for agricultural production and the living place of rural population, but also refer to all the traditions, landscape, environment and residents of these areas. Rural development is highly supported at the EU level and it helps to enhance the quality of life of rural residents and the economic performance of rural areas. According to some points of view, the excessive support should be cut down, but the primary objectives of the CAP should be maintained. The threats of the economic crisis appear more significantly in rural areas. What are the possible ways to increase the economic situation of these areas, where poverty is high, education level is low and the population is aging? Working facilities are mostly connected with agriculture, but the financial background and competitiveness of agricultural enterprises is rather low. The environment and landscape should be preserved. How can all these problems be solved at the same time? How can the environment be preserved in line with the development of the rural areas? The renewed CAP was outlined in November 2010. This paper tries to examine the visions of rural areas for the future.

The overall objective of undertaken research is to present national reflection on defense in Poland, in particular an image of the defense planning culture. The article focuses on issues of defense strategy planning as a part of the complete state defensive strategy and indicates the necessary directions for changes in the essence of defense planning in the light of changes in the security and defense environment of Poland in the 21st century. In the study use has been made of an analysis and a critical review of normative documents, strategies and doctrines. The collected data allow the indication of changes of an application nature (projection method) to the theory of strategic planning in the field of national defense. This allowed proving that the future desired position of Poland in regional and even Continental Europe depends on the anticipated direction of development of Polish defense potential, defense system, and of course, a clearly expressed strategy. The most important element of the three listed ones is naturally the strategy, the preparation of which requires regular cycles of strategic reviews, which are unfortunately not feasible in Poland. The article also emphasizes the importance of assuring the stability of the planning system, the basic element of which are experts, and whose regular fluctuation as a result of constant political changes causes a considerable destabilization of the planning system. Finally, attention is drawn to the fact that the defense strategy must take into account the complexity and unpredictability of the security environment – which are its basic features today.
Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie narodowej refleksji nad obronnością w Polsce, w szczególności obrazu kultury planowania obronnego. W artykule skupiono się na zagadnieniach planowania strategii obronnej – części zupełnej strategii obronności państwa i wskazano niezbędne kierunki zmian istoty planowania obronnego w świetle zmian w środowisku bezpieczeństwa i obronności Polski w XXI wieku. W artykule zastosowano analizę i krytykę dokumentów normatywnych państwa, jego strategii i doktryn. Zebrane dane pozwoliły wskazać konieczne zmiany w teorii planowania strategicznego (metoda projekcji) w zakresie obronności państwa. W efekcie udało się wykazać, że przyszła, pożądana pozycja Polski w wymiarze regionalnym, a nawet w skali Europy, czyli kontynentalnej, zależy od jasno określonego kierunku rozwoju potencjału obronnego kraju, systemu obronnego i oczywiście jasno sformułowanej strategii. Najważniejszym elementem spośród trzech wymienionych jest oczywiście strategia, której przygotowanie wymaga regularnych cyklów przeglądów strategicznych, których w Polsce nie ma. Artykuł podkreśla również znaczenie stabilności systemu planowania, w którym eksperci są podstawowym elementem, a których regularna fluktuacja na skutek ustawicznych zmian politycznych, skutkuje głęboką destabilizacją systemu planowania. Na koniec zwraca się uwagę na fakt, iż strategia obronna musi uwzględniać złożoność i nieprzewidywalność środowiska bezpieczeństwa – które są dzisiaj jego podstawową cechą.

W artykule zaprezentowano podstawowe pojęcia związane z problematyką strategii produktu i metod oraz technik wykorzystywanych w jej budowaniu. Omówiono metodykę budowania strategii produktu w przedsiębiorstwie oraz scharakteryzowano podstawową grupę metod i technik wykorzystywaną w formułowaniu strategii produktu, tj. metody i techniki z zakresu analizy strategicznej. Dokonano klasyfikacji metod i technik, przyjmując różne kryteria.
The product strategy is determined by many factors whose identification and evaluation is necessary for the strategy development. The analysis of the factors shaping the formulation of a given product strategy and the selection of the most effective strategy among all available options is possible due to the application of various methods and detailed techniques for the particular stages of the product strategy methodology. The task of the managers and employees involved in the development of the product strategy is the right selection of the applicable solutions worked out on the basis of numerous scientific disciplines including: organisation and management, marketing, finance, mathematics, statistics and others. Developing the strategy various methods should be applied in order to consider as many different factors as possible so that the selected products strategies could be implemented to the greatest benefit of the company. In this article the basic concepts related to the product strategy are presented as well as the methods and techniques used in the strategy creation. The paper describes the methodology of product strategy development in an enterprise and it characterizes the basic group of the methods and techniques used in product strategy formulation, cf "strategic analysis - methods and techniques". Moreover, due to the abundance and big variety of the methods and techniques that can be applied in product strategy development, they have been classified according to the different criteria.

Any act has certain goal, and the judge’s trial discourse is a structured and layered goal system. Judges normally adopt some discourse strategies to reach their trial goals. Based on our trial corpora, we find judges commonly adopt some strong goal-driven discourse strategies, such as question-answer strategy, power control strategy, presupposition strategy, repetition strategy, and interruption strategy, etc., in order to realize their trial goals as well as discourse goals. Strategy in effect refers to means, with which the goal of discourse is to be achieved. As words are intended for both the expression and the achievement of goals, the choice of a means or a strategy relies on the decision of the goal. Only from this perspective is the link between strategy and goal meaningful, and in this sense, strategy means rhetoric. This paper aims to study the judge’s discourse strategies adopted in trials in Chinese courtrooms from the perspective of the goal principle.

Forming synchronous and asynchronous learning networks utilizing internet has been simplified by new technologies. The present study investigated the effects of learners’ choice of cognitive and meta-cognitive strategies on vocabulary gain and retention levels in the e-learning context. 180 participants took part in this study and 120 audio podcasts plus still and animated pictures were presented to the participants in the Telegram channel. 23 strategy items on a 5-point Likert scale were presented to the participants by means of a voting robot system on the main page of the channel after the treatment. Additionally, an immediate as well as a delayed vocabulary posttest in the form of multiple-choice were administered, separately. Four one-way ANOVAs were run in order to answer the questions. The results revealed that the choice of cognitive strategy significantly affected the level of vocabulary gain and retention. In other words, learners who applied more cognitive strategies had higher levels in vocabulary gain and retention. However, the choice of meta-cognitive strategy had no considerable influence on vocabulary gain and retention.

This paper aims to briefly describe the two types of strategies (strategic orientations), namely: play-to-win (PTW) and play-not-to-lose (PNTL) as well as to propose some tools for their operationalization within the framework of public management by local governments at county level. The PTW strategies are related to offensive approaches and benefiting from emerging opportunities – they can be defined as “results oriented”. The PNTL, are defensive, based on the current (or even historical) standing of an organization – they can be defined as “survival oriented”. Some examples of possible applications and management tools of the PTW vs. PNTL thinking to the situation of local governments will are described. These tools may be helpful in identifying the specific approach in strategic thinking of local governments. The analysis of the two approaches is of particular importance for the measurement of intellectual capital at county level. The PTW vs. PNTL implies the type of investment decisions and budgetary spending policies as well as attitudes and behaviours promoted locally.

In the condition of Romanian economy and not only in this case the elaboration of market strategy within the framework of a company holds a particularly place in the elaboration of development strategy of respective company. The company development strategies which conduct to the realization of its directives constitute a responsibility of company management alongside of its performance indicators establishment. The market strategy represents a general strategy component of company development, being known that its formulation represents the central point of marketing programming. The company aiming the study target of this paper is named ECO INVEST LTD with headquarters in Deva-Romania and it has as principal activity object the wholesale and retail merchandising of constructions materials. In carrying on its activity the company used various strategies, namely: maintenance strategy, differentiated strategy, passive strategy, high demands strategy and defensive strategy. These strategies weren’t in concordance with economic environment in which the company takes action the fact which imposes their modification for positioning the company on a new line in the market. The proposed strategies for the company will point the adoption of increasing strategy for obtaining an ascending trend of sales volume, a differentiated strategy so that it would concentrate on the segment of great-scale consumers, an active strategy adapted to the changes of surrounding environment and an offensive strategy by which the company will conquer a new position as part of the market.
W warunkach gospodarki rumuńskiej i nie tylko w tym przypadku, opracowanie strategii rynkowej w ramach spółki zajmuje szczególne miejsce w opracowaniu strategii rozwoju danego przedsiębiorstwa. Strategie rozwoju firmy, które prowadzą do realizacji jej wytycznych, wraz z ustanowienia wskaźników jego wykonania stanowią odpowiedzialność kierownictwa firmy. Strategia rynkowa stanowi element ogólnej strategii rozwoju firmy i jest wiadomym, że jego sformułowanie stanowi centralny punkt planowania marketingowego. Firma będąca celem badań niniejszej pracy nazywa się ECO INVEST LTD z siedzibą w Deva-Rumunia, a główny obiekt jej działalności to hurtowa i detaliczna sprzedaż materiałów konstrukcyjnych. W prowadzeniu swojej działalności firma wykorzystała różne strategie, a mianowicie: strategia konserwacji, zróżnicowana strategia, strategia pasywna, strategia wysokich wymagań i strategia obronna. Strategie te nie były zgodne ze środowiskiem gospodarczym, w którym firma podejmuje działania, a fakt, który narzuca ich modyfikację to pozycjonowanie firmy w nowej linii w rynku. Proponowane strategie firmy wskażą przyjęcie strategii wzrostu w celu uzyskiwania tendencji rosnącej wielkości sprzedaży, strategii zróżnicowanej, która będzie koncentrować się na segmencie klientów większej skali, aktywnej strategii dostosowanej do zmian otaczającego środowiska i ofensywnej strategii, za pomocą której firma będzie zdobędzie nowe stanowisko na rynku.

Realization of a national interests is a leading through the country political-economy actions based on a possessed national strategy. In Polish reality the role of leading strategy should be played by a long-term development plans. Now strategy - Long-time National Development Strategy Poland 2030 is one of them. It defines detailed in some, defined by country, areas of its actions and indicate the way of achieve them. In case of Polish sea interest, we should admit that they are not strictly related with sea economy and in a much higher degree are determinate in sectors strategy, energetic, environment and regional development. Achieving them is conditioned by ability to use it’s own potential and due to limited possibility in impact on sea areas, also in use already existing or arising supranational arrangements. Independent leaded by Poland actions should be concentrate in Baltic Sea. Important target should be correlation polish national interests with regional cooperation plans. It should be concentrate in sailing security issue, especially oil tankers and incorporate polish ports into system of transporting commodities form Asia to Europe and combating organized crimes. We should admit that, the most important target of polish presence on others water reservoirs is partial assumption of liability for polish transport of LNG gaze security by UE and NATO. That is why committed ourselves in UE action, including combating immigrations (BRODEX project) is necessary.

The main aim of this study is to replicate the effect shown by Traczyk et al. (2018), where individuals with higher statistical numeracy, compared to individuals with lower statistical numeracy, employed a more effortful choice strategy when outcomes were meaningful. I hypothesize that participants with higher numeracy will be more likely to make choices predicted by Cumulative Prospect Theory and Expected Value theory (CPT/EV) in high-payoff problems than in low-payoff problems. Data collection was done online by appointing 73 participants. Participants’ preference, fluid intelligence, objective and subjective numeracy were measured using thirteen high and eleven low payoff choice problems, International Cognitive Ability Resource (ICAR), Berlin Numeracy Test (BNT), and Subjective Numeracy Scale (SNS), respectively. All the measures mentioned above were presented randomly. Results showed that all participants, in high-payoff condition, on average maximized EV; however, participants with high BNT scores were more likely to make choices consistent with CPT/EV predictions than individuals with low BNT scores. Furthermore, compared to less numerate participants, highly numerate participants were less likely to make choices consistent with CPT/EV predictions in low-payoff condition. Highly numerate individuals adjusted their choice strategy by modulating their response time, indicating their discernible sensitivity towards large asymmetry in payoff. In conclusion, the effect shown by Traczyk et al. (2018) was successfully replicated.

This study aims to find a local economic development strategy based on agroindustry to increase Java’s agrotourism sustainable and robust local economy. The research methods used are descriptive quantitative and qualitative. Research respondents are the community, academic practitioners and government officials. The data used covers both external and internal factors that affect the local economy in an agrotourism area and which are then analyzed using SWOT. The results show that the main strength of agrotourism in the IFE matrix is its highly strategic geographical location. The weakness is the lack of planning and business development activity which could have potential economic value. In the EFE matrix, opportunities are the prospects for agrotourism development while the main threat is the community's low interest in business development. In the IE matrix, agrotourism development is found in cell V. This can be handled by maintaining strategies such as market penetration, and market and product development. The study concludes that the local economic development of the community in the agrotourism area can be implemented if the community, practitioners and government are integrated to support the strategy.
Celem niniejszego opracowania jest określenie lokalnej strategii rozwoju gospodarczego opartej na rolnictwie, która pomogłaby w stworzeniu na Jawie zrównoważonej agroturystyki oraz prężnie działającej gospodarki lokalnej. Zastosowano w nim opisowe metody badawcze, zarówno ilościowe, jak i jakościowe. Osoby biorące udział w badaniu to członkowie lokalnej społeczności, naukowcy będący praktykami oraz urzędnicy państwowi. Omawiane dane odnoszą się zarówno do czynników zewnętrznych, jak i wewnętrznych, które mają wpływ na lokalną gospodarkę w sektorze agroturystyki. W celu ich zbadania wykorzystano analizę (macierz) SWOT. Otrzymane wyniki świadczą o tym, że najmocniejszą stroną agroturystyki w macierzy oceny czynników wewnętrznych (IFE Matrix) jest wysoce strategiczne położenie geograficzne, największą słabością zaś – brak planowania oraz przedsięwzięć ukierunkowanych na rozwój działalności, która potencjalnie ma ogromną wartość gospodarczą. W macierzy oceny czynników zewnętrznych (EFE Matrix) największą szansę stanowią możliwości rozwoju agroturystyki, a najpoważniejsze zagrożenie – niewielkie zainteresowanie lokalnej społeczności rozwojem biznesu. W macierzy oceny czynników wewnętrznych i zewnętrznych (IE Matrix) rozwój agroturystyki ulokowano w komórce V. Problemy z nim związane można rozwiązać dzięki stosowaniu takich strategii, jak penetracja rynku oraz rozwój rynku i produktu. Z opracowania płynie wniosek, że rozwój lokalnej gospodarki w obszarze agroturystyki w omawianej społeczności można osiągnąć, pod warunkiem że społeczność, praktycy i rząd podejmą współpracę w celu wsparcia wdrażanej strategii.

The article deals with the analysis and assessment of lean strategy as well as of Six Sigma and the Theory of Constraints applied in effective supply chain management. These concepts were found mutually complementary. Agile strategy, as well as its comparative assessment with lean strategy, were analyzed. Agile strategy's aspects of development in reactive supply chain management were discussed. Three kinds of supply chain processes and the corresponding strategies such as lean, agile and lean-agile were singled out. The article established that effective and efficient supply chain management based on agile strategy is conditioned by the preceding both geographically and chronologically lean processes implementation.

Article presents an approach to the national security in the National Security Strategy developed in Spain in 2013. The article formulates the scientific research: consideration of the prospects for development of the renewable energy in the world and in the European Union; the analysis and the condition of the energy strategy of Ukraine and the two projects of a new document – Energy Strategy of Ukraine till 2035; and the exploration of the strategy development prospects of “green energy” in Ukraine. The aim of the research is to evaluate the prospects of the development of “green energy” in Ukraine by means of analysis and synthesis of the power strategies of the countries of the world, Europe, as well as Ukraine. Ukraine has committed itself to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, having signed Paris agreement on climate change on April 22, 2016. The point of departure of EU State aid policy is laid down in the Treaty establishing the European Community (hereinafter the “Treaty”). This Treaty provides that State aid is, in principle, incompatible with the common market. However, the principle of incompatibility does not amount to a full-scale prohibition. In the EU countries state aid is permissible to promote the economic development (of areas where the standard of living is abnormally low or where there is serious underemployment) and to facilitate the development of certain economic activities or certain economic areas (where such aid does not adversely affect trading conditions contrary to the common interest). The provisions of the 2000 Lisbon Strategy and the “Europe 2020” Strategy are also important in determining the directions of state aid in the European Union. According to their assumptions the member countries have been required to: reduce the level of aid relative to GDP; reduce state aid which decreases competition; reorient sectoral aid to horizontal and regional aid; and change the forms of state aid-from passive to active instruments. The purpose of this paper is to present the directions of allocation of state aid in the EU countries during 2000-2011, and answer the question whether the resolutions contained in the Lisbon Strategy have been implemented. The research hypothesis is: have the changes in the size, direction and allocation of state aid taken place in accordance with the resolutions of the Lisbon Strategy.

Paradoxicall y, following the end of the Cold War, India has been able to conduct an independent foreign policy in Africa. This can be seen in the evolution of relations with countries of the continent. Non-alignment has been replaced by the so-called new non-alignment. Its essence is the focus on economic issues in relations with African nations Non-alignment should therefore not exclude cooperation with other powers and countries of the North on issues such as terrorism and poverty. In addition, India wishes to act as a bridge between the North and South. The examples above are indication of a reorientation of Indian foreign policy. The consequences of these changes have been considerable, as the shift away from the Nehruvian approach to relations with the African states. These processes were accompanied by an evolution in India's negotiating style, whose new feature was the ability to say 'yes' and be open to cooperation. India has proven that it is capable of constructive action in international fora. The new strategy towards Africa should be analyzed in the context of new Indian international strategy. At the turn of the 21st century, India has applied geo-economic instruments and soft power in order to achieve its major-power aspirations. Indians believe that security issues require a broad and comprehensive concept of secu- rity, which takes into account the military, economic, ecological and social dimension of security. This was pointed out by an Indian researcher, P. R. Rajeswari, whose article 'From Geo-Politics to Geo-Economics' not only stresses the role of the economic factor in shaping a country's foreign policy, but also proclaims the decline of geopolitics and asserts the growing role of geo-economics in international relations. In the context of India, Smitha Radhakrishnan adds that the economy and knowledge have become the key attributes of 'new India's new strategy'. Trade policy along with its instruments have also been determining India's foreign policy to an increasing extent. The geopolitical and geo-economic situation following the Cold War and the global economic crisis have determined India's foreign policy in Africa. Understanding the ambitious, though occasionally ineffective actions taken by India in the field of foreign policy, with its determinants, assumptions, objectives and focus, appears to be justified and valuable, considering that India plays more important role in Africa.

Traditional approaches to managing costs are based on the costs that are the result of existing capabilities and resources in the company. Adding to these costs a specified margin or profit, leads to the sales price. If the market is not ready to accept such a selling price, managers need to find opportunities for rationalization and cost reduction. Target cost management begins the process of managing the sales price and the planned profit that the market can accept, and only then is it possible to determine the cost of the product. In the planning phase of the product and the manufacturing process the approach is to finding a method to lower costs and to reduce them as much as possible. The aim this of study is to investigate the application of target (strategy) cost accounting methods in the Hospitality Industry.

The inconstancy of business and competition models influence the need for constant redefining of media enterprises strategy. In case of polish regional radio station companies, the destabilization of subscription revenue and rules governing their division is an additional factor underlining the instability of management conditions. The purpose of this article is to demonstrate that in the face of persistent destabilization of external factors, public media companies have limited strategic choices and may maximize their income by increasing activity in the advertising market and value co-creation with the users of media products. The paradox of those companies actions lies in the fact that they seek for stabilization of their financial situation in the highly competitive and unstable advertising market and that the forced competition with other commercial media must accompany carrying out the public media mission. Those solutions are based on the example of the Polish Radio Gdańsk SA.

New media coopetition: between consumer-creator and organization The purpose of this article is to suggest a concept of “new media coopetition” – a comprehensive relationship between active media users and media companies as well as between the companies themselves. Co-creation of media contents by the users is a strategic challenge for media companies. Users who create texts, films or music recordings become competitors to the professional authors. Not only are users recipients and creators at the same time, but they are also competitors to media organizations. Coopetition is a strategy bringing benefits to the parties involved by making them simultaneously compete and cooperate with the competitors (users). While in the traditional version coopetition only concerns relationship between the organizations, I propose that it embraces the form of “new media coopetition”, which would also take the relationship between users and media organizations into account.

The implementation of CRM strategy itself needs vast amount of effort from the whole company including both, workers and management. Especially the strategy needs the change of the way of thinking (in terms of the product) and taking into consideration clients position in every process in a company. Moreover, this concept requires full commitment of staff and management regardless the management level. The most important then are becoming trainings and the creation of the proper motivational system. Among outside factors one can number such as information access, kind of a client contact, the emotional notion towards a product or service, number of clients and value of transaction per unit. The biggest problem is caused by a kind of the client contact and information access which is attached to it. The influence of the rest of factors can be reduced for example by the usage of CRM system, promise model or such tools as contests, lotteries or loyalty contracts.

Trends towards environmentally-friendly activities and the emphasis on the idea of sustained development are increasingly more visible on present-day markets. The growing environmental consciousness of the society, the changes of consumer needs and their expectations from business as well as the business sector awareness of the necessity to consider environmental issues support the development of EM . The article presents the origins and assumptions of green marketing and the characteristics of environmentally-friendly instruments. It also includes selected results of a survey aimed at determining the level of consumer environmental awareness and the related consumer behavior as well as finding the information about the expectations regarding the development of green marketing.
Na współczesnym rynku coraz wyraźniejsze są tendencje w kierunku podejmowania działań proekologicznych i akcentowana coraz wyraźniej idea zrównoważonego rozwoju. Rosnąca świadomość ekologiczna społeczeństwa, zmieniające się potrzeby i oczekiwania nabywców względem przedsiębiorstw, a także dostrzeganie przez przedsiębiorstwa konieczności uwzględniania wymogów środowiska naturalnego sprzyjają rozwojowi koncepcji marketingu ekologicznego. Artykuł przedstawia genezę i założenia marketingu ekologicznego oraz charakterystykę proekologicznych instrumentów marketingowych. W opracowaniu zaprezentowano również wybrane wyniki badań ankietowych, których celem było określenia stopnia świadomości ekologicznej konsumentów i związanych z nią proekologicznych zachowań, a także poznanie oczekiwań względem działań sprzyjających rozwojowi marketingu ekologicznego.

Aim. Based on the analysis of two social-cultural cases (Lithuania and Georgia), the aim of the research is to reveal the necessity to create a strategy for the development of cultural literacy in schools; to examine the corpus of theory that deals with the concept of cultural literacy and based on the analysis of the latter to suggest a hypothesis for the development of cultural literacy. Methods. The theoretical literature review (i.e., its relevance in academic discourse and international organisations as well as individual countries) has helped to establish the already existing definitions of the concept of cultural literacy, their interaction and to develop a new hypothesis to be tested for the development of cultural literacy in schools. Results and conclusion. The literature review has shown that representatives of different theories offer different definitions of cultural literacy, although there is a common theoretical line on the basis of which I offer to the reader my own structure of cultural literacy development strategy. The analysis of historical and geographical contexts of Lithuania and Georgia has revealed that nowadays even small countries’ society, with a dominant single nation, in some ways can be considered as a multicultural society. Schools in the said countries have become an intercultural place of learning, where reemigrants, migrants, ethnical minorities and locals are brought together. The analysis has led to the conclusion that taking into account modern challenges, the importance of the development of cultural literacy in schools is growing both for international organisations and for individual countries. The concept of cultural literacy is considered value-based knowledge, which comes as a response to the requirements of society’s sustainable coexistence.

The article presents the author's view on the methodological support for the formation of substrategies for diversifying the behavior of an enterprise with the ability to track (evaluate) the results achieved and develop scenarios for the future. The methodological bases for identifying the level of diversification of an enterprise's activities are formulated on the basis of a three-dimensional indicator that allows taking into account the triune nature of diversification as a diversity of the enterprise's resource portfolio (“inputs” into the enterprise system), formalization of its activities (“processor” of the system), and achieved (expected) results (“outputs”) from the system). On the example of a group of Ukrainian enterprises of firefighting services, a developed system of economic metrics for diversifying their activities is presented, which is based on two concepts – a balanced scorecard (BSC) and economic management using the method of interval values. Based on the proposed idea of three-dimensionality of diversification by applying the methodology of morphological analysis, substrategies of diversification of the enterprise's activities are modeled and the results of practical testing of the development of a diversification strategy for the group of enterprises selected for study are presented.

All the papers deal with the problem of homogenous narratives and homogenous practices, which most often falsify the complex reality of the human world. No matter if we look for examples in literature, cinema, or if we take a closer look at cultural institutions; our authors question the apparent uniformity which seems to lie behind the familiar categories we use to describe our everyday experience. The languages we speak, books we read, exhibitions we visit – they are supposed to use clearly defined categories with sharp boundaries and unified content. This unwritten agreement makes our life easier and helps us move through the labyrinth of social relations and cultural patterns. But what if we suddenly find out that one of those well-known categories does not suit the reality? Przeciwko jednorodności. Transkulturowe i transjęzykowe strategie w produkcji kulturowejGłównym wątkiem nowego numeru "Colloquia Humanistica" jest walka przeciw jednorodności. Wszystkie artykuły zmagają się z problemem jednorodnych narracji i jednorodnych praktyk, które najczęściej fałszują złożoną rzeczywistość ludzkiego świata. Przykłady możemy czerpać z literatury czy kina, możemy też przyjrzeć się bliżej instytucjom kulturalnym; autorzy i autorki w niniejszym numerze kwestionują rzekomą oczywistość, do której, jak się wydaje, odsyłają codziennie używane kategorie, służące nam do opisu codziennego doświadczenia. Nieważne, czy mówimy o językach, którymi się posługujemy, o książkach, które czytamy, czy o wystawach, jakie zwiedzamy; wszędzie tam zakładamy posługiwanie się jasno zdefiniowanymi kategoriami o ostrych granicach i jednorodnej treści. Ta niepisana umowa ułatwia nam życie i pomaga poruszać się w labiryncie relacji społecznych. A jednak co się dzieje, jeśli nagle odkrywamy, że jedna z tych dobrze znanych kategorii nie pasuje do rzeczywistości?

Article analyses draft version of the National Development Strategy 2007–2015 adopted by the GoP in June 2006. This is the most important planning document. Its implementation may to a large extent influence competitive position of Poland within a decade. Analysis of presented diagnosis, objectives and priorities and outlined delivery mechanism leads to a conclusion that it is modern and interesting strategy, however not ambitious enough to ensure that Polish economy takes high place among other EU countries.

Nowadays, trade is shifting mainly to virtual reality. Increasingly more customers, using various types of mobile devices such as computers, smartphones, tablets, look for products and services in online stores, counting on fast, convenient and efficient fulfilment of the order. To meet the customers’ requirements, trade enterprises may implement the omnichannel strategy as a way to streamline the entire sales and distribution system of goods from the store to the customer, ensuring the possibility of continuous monitoring transactions. The paper examines the development of omnichannel strategy by the Polish small and medium enterprises. The underlying assumption of the paper is to identify to what extent the Polish companies concentrate on omnichannel strategy in the functioning of their business. The discussion is based on the results of the study obtained from the CAWI survey, CATI survey, and the in-depth interview conducted among the group of Polish MSMEs in Silesian Voivodeship.

The selected issues of the process of providing national security discussed in the article may serve as a basis for improving the rationality of public administration efforts to ensure existential and behavioral needs of the society.

Konieczność rozbudowy i modernizacji marynarki wojennej wynika nie tylko z aspiracji morskich tego państwa, czy znaczenia morza i gospodarki morskiej dla Ukrainy, ale przede wszystkim spowodowane jest agresywną i konfrontacyjną polityką Rosji w regionie Morza Czarnego i Morza Azowskiego. W publikacji przedstawiono proces powolnego zmniejszania się potencjału ilościowo-jakościowego ukraińskiej marynarki wojennej. Świadomość realności zagrożenia suwerenności i integralności terytorialnej Ukrainy ze strony Rosji uświadomił elitom politycznym i wojskowym o konieczności podjęcia działań sanacyjnych w odniesieniu do marynarki wojennej. W artykule przedstawiono kolejne etapy procesu tworzenia Strategii Marynarki Wojennej Ukrainy 2035 oraz wykorzystaną przy jej tworzeniu metodologię. Ponadto przedstawiono wyniki analizy i oceny dwóch dokumentów: Strategicznej oceny Marynarki Wojennej Ukrainy i Strategii Marynarki Wojennej Ukrainy 2035 oraz silnych i słabych stron Strategii Marynarki Wojennej Ukrainy 2035 oraz wyzwań i zagrożeń związanych z jej implementacją.
The declaration of the former President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko that Ukraine was, is and will be a maritime state is a declaration confirming its maritime aspirations. In the case of the navy, such an important element of the state's maritime power, achieving quantitative and qualitative potential adequate to the declared marine aspirations will require the implementation of a program to modernize and expand all elements that constitute the marine type of armed forces. The need to expand and modernize the navy results not only from the country's maritime aspirations or the importance of the sea and maritime economy for Ukraine, but above all is caused by Russia's aggressive and confrontational policy in the Black Sea and Azov Sea regions. The publication presents a process of slowly decreasing the quantitative and qualitative potential of the Ukrainian navy. Awareness of the reality of the threat to Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity on the part of Russia has made political and military elites aware of the need to undertake remedial actions with respect to the navy. The article presents the next stages of the process of creating the Naval Strategy of Ukraine 2035 and the methodology used to create it.

Głównym celem artykułu jest zaprezentowanie najważniejszych założeń, leżących u podstaw strategii cyfrowej współczesnych organizacji. Struktura opracowania oraz zastosowane metody badawcze zostały podporządkowane wyznaczonemu celowi, a zatem w pierwszej kolejności dokonano przeglądu literatury przedmiotu na temat strategii informacyjnej. Następnie opisano nową, wyłaniającą się strategię cyfrową biznesu. W dalszej kolejności dokonano eksploracji czterech wymiarów strategii cyfrowej, które odróżniają ją od wcześniejszych strategii informacyjnych organizacji i które dotyczą: zakresu strategii, jej skali, szybkości oraz źródeł tworzenia wartości. Zilustrowano, jak różne firmy, np. Google, Facebook, Sony, Twitter oraz Microsoft budują swoją pozycję rynkową, opierając się na zasobach cyfrowych i nowych modelach biznesu. Ostatecznie zidentyfikowano kluczowe zagadnienia wymagające prowadzenia dalszych badań i analiz w zakresie rozwoju strategii cyfrowej w organizacjach.
The basic goal of this paper is to present the main assumptions underlying the idea of digital business strategy and to identify its most important factors (dimensions) that include: scope of digital business strategy, scale of business strategy, speed of digital business strategy, and sources of value creation and capture. In order to reach such research goal, the structure of this paper was organized as follows. Firstly, an overview of subject literature on information strategy has been conducted. Then, the idea of new generation of digital business strategy has been described. Next, the four themes: scope, scale, speed and sources of value have been explored. Finally, key questions on digital business strategy themes have been identified.

Dynamics of the external environment requires the company's management to anticipate future developments, continuously analyse and monitor their environment, search for new opportunities, and objectively evaluate the potential of the company with sufficient advance to prepare an appropriate strategy for future development and prosperity. With the growing pressure to improve strategic management of organizations, companies employ outstanding managers – strategists whose main task is to ensure the long-term success of an organization in challenging, changing and heavy influenced (to-be or not to-be) environment. Several variables play significant roles and it is difficult to predict them. This paper discusses the concepts of strategic management with an emphasis on creating a suitable business strategy. Its benefit is the comparison of the ideas of military strategists and underlying of parallels in nowadays-strategic management.
Dynamika środowiska zewnętrznego wymaga od kierownictwa firmy przewidywania przyszłych zmian, ciągłej analizy i monitorowania ich otoczenia, poszukiwania nowych możliwości i obiektywnej oceny potencjału firmy z wystarczającym wyprzedzeniem, aby przygotować odpowiednią strategię dla przyszłego rozwoju i dobrobytu. Wraz z rosnącą presją na poprawę zarządzania strategicznego w organizacjach, firmy zatrudniają wybitnych menedżerów – strategów, których głównym zadaniem jest zapewnienie długofalowego sukcesu organizacji w trudnym, zmiennym i ciężkim otoczeniu (przyszłym lub nie). Kilka zmiennych odgrywa znaczącą rolę i trudno je przewidzieć. Artykuł omawia pojęcia zarządzania strategicznego z naciskiem na stworzenie odpowiedniej strategii biznesowej. Jego zaletą jest porównanie pomysłów strategów wojskowych i porównanie z dzisiejszym zarządzaniem strategicznym.

The 2016 faces the adoption of the new security strategy of the European Union – the second in the Union’s history. Although the Common Security and Defence Policy is one of the youngest of the EU policies, its role rapidly intensifi es in the world of growing political and social instability in the EU’s neighbourhood. How does the EU defi ne the threats to its security and is it capable of preventing them? The European Security Strategy of 2003 both describes the threats and recommends the principles that should be implemented in the EU’s policies in order to raise their effectiveness. Thirteen years after the publication of the first security strategy and shortly before the second one is announced it is interesting to check, how much the fi rst strategy inspired the changes in the way of thinking about the European security and the economisation of the European defences. In the article, there are analysed both the political milestones leading to the establishment of the defence policy of the EU and the provisions of the new Global Strategy of the Union. What can be anticipated from the new strategy given the experience with the realisation of the previous one? Does the new security strategy fit well into the reality of the contemporary international relations? Is the new strategy possible to implement?

With the massive expansion of decentralised renewable energy in electricity grid networks, the power supply system has been changed from centralised to decentralised one and from directional to bi-directional one. However, due to the regional energy structure difference in the power imbalance between electricity generation and consumption is becoming more and more serious. A grid-scale energy storage system (ESS) can be one solution to balance the local difference. In this paper, two charging/discharging strategies for the grid-scale ESS were proposed to decide when and with how much power to charge/discharge the ESS. In order to realise the two strategies, this paper focuses on the application of fuzzy logic control system. The proposed strategies aim to reduce the peak power generation, consumption and the grid fluctuation. In particular, this paper analysis the ratio between energy-capacity and rated power of ESS. The performance of the proposed strategies is evaluated from two aspects, the normalised power of ESS itself and the influence on the power grid. Simulation studies were carried out on the rule-based control systems with different energy-to-power (e2p) ratios, and the results show that the proposed charging strategy with combination of extreme situation of power imbalance and the rest capacity of ESS provides a smooth load curve for the regional power grid system while the external power exchange is reduced effectively.

The main goal of this work is an attempt to answer the question about the level of implementation (concretization) of strategies created by enterprises operating in the agricultural machinery sector? As part of the project, first of all, research was undertaken to identify the microfoundaments of the adopted business model on the one hand, and on the other hand, define the development strategy. This required the formulation and implementation of partial tasks, which included, on the one hand, a query of the literature in direct relation to the research topic (theoretical and design layer), and on the other hand - in order to establish the level, scope and structure of the strategy microfundaments formulated by enterprises - empirical verification. The above resulted in the development of a research model. Compiling the model as a result of the exploration of the literature and discussion among deliberately selected experts - on the empirical level - determined the recognition of the level of strategy concretization among producers of the agricultural machinery sector (self-assessment). The concretized explications have become the substrate that defines the right direction for the conducted research (verification of the research model), the results of which will be presented in the presented part of the study.

Artykuł podejmuje problem definiowania strategii relacyjnej. W celu opracowania wymiarów konstruktu strategii relacyjnej dokonano przeglądu literatury dla skonfigurowania pytań otwartych, zadanych celowo dobranej grupie 20 ekspertów. Analiza semantyczna i logiczna uzyskanych odpowiedzi pozwala sformułować tezę o istnieniu odrębnego typu strategii, tj. strategii relacyjnej. Eksperci w przeważającej mierze wskazują, że strategie relacyjne można opisywać w oparciu o cechy relacji międzyorganizacyjnych, instrumentalnych w osiąganiu celów strategicznych. Wyróżniają je cztery cechy: różnorodność, trwałość, oryginalność oraz stopień sformalizowania.
This study aims at providing an operational definition of the relational strategy construct. Based on a literature review a theoretically framed open-questions survey was administered to 20 purposefully selected experts. Content and logical analysis support the view that relational strategies are a separate type among the set of available strategies. Experts vastly support the view that relational strategies can be described through the strategic attributes of interorganizational relationships, seen here as instrumental in achieving strategic goals. Four dimensions seem to be distinctive: heterogeneity, durability, originality and formalization.

The fact that the production and the use of a nuclear weapon during the World War II began a new chapter in both the development of military technology and views on the preparation and conduct of a war. Creators and supporters of the atomic bomb quickly realized that it was too powerful to force it into the framework of existing doctrines. Therefore, it proved necessary to look for other solutions as the basis for a new type of a strategy. It was expected that this would be the political-military "containment" strategy introduced in the late 1940s. This, becoming the cornerstone of the US foreign policy, treated the nuclear arsenal as the most convenient and sometimes the only tool of deterrence of the Soviet Union. In the military dimension, as a derivative of the contradictory nuclear strategy of the Truman’s administration, it did not give up the bombing of cities but through deterrence and assurance of the security of allies in Europe it proposed a quick and massive nuclear attack.

Celem niniejszego artykułu jest porównanie doświadczeń Strategii Lizbońskiej z dyskusją europejską wokół nowej Strategii "Europa 2020". Widoczne są silne tendencje historyczne w polityce europejskiej, a zmiany - wywołane najczęściej uwarunkowaniami zewnętrznymi - są ewolucyjne, jednak nie wpływają na zasadniczą poprawę efektywności implementacji strategii UE. Widać jedynie niewielkie korekty dotyczące zarządzania i dość ograniczone, stopniowe zmiany w priorytetach merytorycznych.
The aim of this article is to compare the Lisbon and "Europe 2020" EU economic and social strategies. The analysis is focused on "path dependency" of historical trends as well as on new tendencies in management methods and policy priorities. The changes in the new EU Strategy are due to external circumstances and are rather evolutionary. They have a limited impact on the quality of the Strategy's implementation.

This paper attempts to present a method for determining the level of goal achievement corresponding to a marketing strategy formulated for a new product launched in a competitive market. The research method used in this paper is a literature review in the area of new product development (NPD) and marketing strategy. The obtained scientific results indicate the importance of measurement of the effects of a new product strategy and provide various new metrics in this field. In practice, the author proposes useful indicators to measure the effects of a new product strategy in competitive markets. Given the economic and marketing implications of the study, its originality concerns the results that provide the basis for the improvement of company's efforts in effect measurement of a new product strategy and also marketing strategy in competitive markets. The present paper contains an overview of scientific works about new product competitiveness, and also proposes a modification of the method used to measure new product competitiveness on the marketplace. The research contribution to marketing sciences primarily includes the formulation of a set of real rates to measure success or fail rate of a new product strategy in a competitive market. The novelty of the research lies in the approach used to obtain quantitative parameters for evaluation of market competitiveness of a new product in various industries.

W artykule przedstawiono koncepcję negocjacji, bazującą na dwóch podejściach: harvardzkiej szkoły negocjacji w trzech wymiarach Davida Laxa i Jamesa Sebeniusa oraz strategii „szachowej” w ujęciu Rogera Perrotina i Pierra Heusschena. Istotą takiego synergicznego podejścia jest położenie akcentu na fazę przygotowania się do negocjacji i napisania scenariusza wydarzeń. W artykule zaproponowano kontrolę trzech wymiarów negocjacji: „przy stole”, przy desce kreślarskiej”, „z dala od stołu” (koncepcja Laxa i Sebeniusa). W ramach technicznych przygotowań do negocjacji zaproponowano kontrolę następujących parametrów negocjacji (zawsze dla obydwu stron): kody poszczególnych elementów negocjacyjnych, elementy podlegające negocjacjom, ważność poszczególnych elementów negocjacyjnych, cele, oferty wyjściowe, BATNA (koncepcja Perrotina i Heusschena).
The article presents the concept of negotiations, based on two approaches: the Harvard School of Negotiations in three dimensions by David Lax and James Sebenius and the strategy of "chess" in the view of Roger Perrotin and Pierre Heusschen. The essence of such a synergistic approach is to underline the phase of preparation for negotiations and writing a scenario of events. The article proposes to control three dimensions of negotiations: Negotiating at the table (process), negotiating on the drawing board (substance), and negotiating away from the table (scope, sequence and process choices) (Lax and Sebenius concept). As part of the technical preparations for negotiations, it was proposed to control the following negotiation parameters (always for both sides): codes of individual negotiating elements, elements of negotiations, importance of individual negotiating elements, objectives, initial offers, BATNA (Perrotin and Heusschen concept).

In today’s dynamic business environment, a key challenge for all companies is to make adaptive adjustments to their manufacturing strategy. This study demonstrates the competitive priorities of manufacturing strategy in hydro-power case company to evaluate the level of sustainable competitive advantage and also to further analyze how business strategies are aligned with manufacturing strategies. This research is based on new holistic analytical evaluation of manufacturing strategy index, sense and respond, and sustainable competitive advantage models. These models help to describe, evaluate, and optimize resource allocation to meet the performance requirements in dynamic decision making. Furthermore, these models evaluate operational competitiveness for manufacturing strategies according to the multi-criteria priority. The results show that the adjustments of competitive priorities in manufacturing strategies by implementing the proposed holistic analytical models are helpful in strategically managing business operations. The discussion derives the most critical attributes in business operations while alignment of resource allocation with competitive priorities help to strategically focus those attributes. In conclusion, we argue that resource allocation and manufacturing strategies have become the most important capabilities in a business environment where companies focus to get a sustainable competitive advantage.

The current research examines the effect of two methods of vocabulary training on reading fluency and comprehension of adult English as second language (ESL) tertiary-bound students. The methods used were isolated vocabulary training (bottom-up reading) and vocabulary training in context (topdown reading). The current exploratory and quasi-experimental study examines the effectiveness of these methods in two intact classes using pre- and posttest measures of students’ reading fluency and comprehension. The results show that bottom-up training had a negative impact on fluency and comprehension. In contrast, top-down training positively affected fluency but had no impact on comprehension. Further, the results do suggest that fast-paced reading may potentially lead to improved comprehension. These findings have implications for the type of language instruction used in classrooms and, therefore, for teachers of adult ESL learners.

The predominant context for strategy research over the last three decades has focused on language learning situated in a conventional classroom environment. Computer technology has brought about many changes in language learning and has become ecological and normalized rather than a supporting tool in the language classroom. Consequently, the landscape of language learning has been rapidly and largely changed with the normalization of technologies in people’s daily communication. The pervasive use of mobile technologies and easy access to online resources require that digital language learners understand and employ appropriate learning strategies for learning effectiveness and that their teachers are able and willing to teach these strategies as needed. This article provides an overview of the state-of-the-art research into technology-enhanced language learning strategies. The strategies under review include those for language learning skill areas, language subsystems, and self-regulated learning. At the end, we discuss the pressing issues that Digital Age language learning has posed to learners, teachers, and researchers and propose considerations for strategy research in digital realms.
