Opis:: We obtain a result on the existence of a solution with big graph of functional equations of the form g(x,(x),(f(x)))=0 and we show that it is applicable to some important equations, both linear and nonlinear, including those of Abel, Böttcher and Schröder. The graph of such a solution has some strange properties: it is dense and connected, has full outer measure and is topologically big.

Opis:: The degenerate parabolic Cauchy problem is considered. A functional argument in the equation is of the Hale type. As a limit of piecewise classical solutions we obtain a viscosity solution of the main problem. Presented method is an adaptation of Tonelli's constructive method to the partial differential-functional equation. It is also shown that this approach can be improved by the vanishing viscosity method and regularisation process.

Opis:: We investigate the solvability in continuous functions of the Abel equation φ(Fx) - φ(x) = 1 where F is a given continuous mapping of a topological space X. This property depends on the dynamics generated by F. The solvability of all linear equations P(x)ψ(Fx) + Q(x)ψ(x) = γ(x) follows from solvability of the Abel equation in case F is a homeomorphism. If F is noninvertible but X is locally compact then such a total solvability is determined by the same property of the cohomological equation φ(Fx) - φ(x) = γ(x). The smooth situation can also be considered in this way.

Opis:: The distributivity law for a fuzzy implication $I\colon [0,1]^2 \to [0,1]$ with respect to a fuzzy disjunction $S\colon [0,1]^2 \to [0,1]$ states that the functional equation $ I(x,S(y,z))=S(I(x,y),I(x,z)) $ is satisfied for all pairs $(x,y)$ from the unit square. To compare some results obtained while solving this equation in various classes of fuzzy implications, Wanda Niemyska has reduced the problem to the study of the following two functional equations: $ h(\min(xg(y),1)) = \min(h(x)+ h(xy),1)$, $x \in (0,1)$, $y \in (0,1]$, and $ h(xg(y)) = h(x)+ h(xy)$, $x,y \in (0, \infty)$, in the class of increasing bijections $h\colon [0,1] \to [0,1]$ with an increasing function $g\colon (0,1] \to [1, \infty)$ and in the class of monotonic bijections $h\colon (0, \infty) \to (0, \infty)$ with a function $g\colon (0, \infty) \to (0, \infty)$, respectively. A description of solutions in more general classes of functions (including nonmeasurable ones) is presented.

Opis:: In this paper, we introduce multi-Jensen-cubic mappings and unify the system of functional equations defining the multi-Jensen-cubic mapping to a single equation. Applying a fixed point theorem, we establish the generalized Hyers-Ulam stability of multi-Jensen-cubic mappings. As a known outcome, we show that every approximate multi-Jensen-cubic mapping can be multi-Jensen-cubic.

Opis:: We consider the following Darboux problem: (1) $D_{xy}z(x,y) = f(x,y,z_{(x,y)},(D_xz)_{(x,y)},(D_yz)_{(x,y)})$, (2) z(x,y) = ϕ(x,y) on [-a₀,a] × [-b₀,b] \ (0,a] × (0,b], where $a₀,b₀ ∈ ℝ₊, a,b > 0. The operator $[0,a] × [0,b] ∋ (x,y) ↦ ω_{(x,y)} ∈ C([-a₀,0] × [-b₀,0],ℝ)$ defined by $ω_{(x,y)}(t,s) = ω(t+x,s+y)$ represents the functional dependence on the unknown function and its derivatives. We construct a wide class of difference methods for problem (1),(2). We prove the existence of solutions of implicit functional systems by means of a comparative method. We get two convergence theorems for implicit and explicit schemes, in the latter case with a nonlinear estimate with respect to the third variable. We give numerical examples to illustrate these results.

Opis:: We deal with the linear functional equation (E) $g(x) = ∑^r_{i=1} p_i g(c_i x)$, where g:(0,∞) → (0,∞) is unknown, $(p₁,...,p_r)$ is a probability distribution, and $c_i$'s are positive numbers. The equation (or some equivalent forms) was considered earlier under different assumptions (cf. [1], [2], [4], [5] and [6]). Using Bernoulli's Law of Large Numbers we prove that g has to be constant provided it has a limit at one end of the domain and is bounded at the other end.

We consider the class of the associative rational functions defined by formula F(u,v) =uv αuv + u + v, where α is a ﬁxed real numer.

The main result says that the only homogeneous weighted quasi-arithmetic mean satisfying this condition is the weighted geometric mean. In the context of invariance of the geometric mean with respect to the arithmetic-harmonic mean-type mapping, the possibility of the occurring reciprocal-conjugacy in technical sciences is commented.

Using the method of bicharacteristics and the fixed-point method we prove a theorem on the local existence and uniqueness of Carathéodory solutions of the mixed problem.

Opis:: This paper starts from several applications described by initial/boundary value problems for 1D (time and one space variable) hyperbolic partial differential equations whose basic properties and stability of equilibria are studied throughout the same properties for certain associated neutral functional differential equations. It is a common fact that asymptotic stability for neutral functional differential equations is normally obtained under the assumption of asymptotic stability of the difference operator associated to the aforementioned neutral functional differential equations. However the physically meaningful applications presented in the paper have the associated difference operator(s) in critical cases (their stability is, generally speaking, non-asymptotic). Consequently the stability of the considered application models is either non-asymptotic or fragile (in a sense introduced in the paper). The models represent an overview gathered from various fields, processed here in order to emphasize the associated neutral functional differential equations which, consequently, are a challenge to the usual approaches. In the concluding part there are suggested possible ways to overcome these difficulties.

Opis:: In this paper we apply Rothe's Fixed Point Theorem to prove the interior approximate controllability of the following semilinear impulsive Heat Equation \[ \begin{cases} z_{t} = \Delta z + 1_{\omega}u(t,x) + f(t,z,u(t,x)), & \text{in} \quad (0,\tau] \times \Omega, t \neq t_{k}) \\ z = 0, & \text{on} \quad (0, \tau) \times \delta\Omega,\\ z(0,x) = z_{0}(x), & x \in \Omega, \\ z(t_{k}^{+}, x) = z(t_{k}^{-}, x) + I_{k}(t_{k},z(t_{k},x)u(t_{k},x)), & x \in \Omega, \end{cases} \] where k = 1, 2, . . . , p, $\Omega$ is a bounded domain in $\mathbb{R}^{N}(N \geq 1), z_{0} \in L_{2}(\Omega), \omega$ is an open nonempty subset of $\Omega$, $1_{\omega}$ denotes the characteristic function of the set $\omega$, the distributed control $u$ belongs to $C\left([0, \tau]; L_{2}\left(\Omega\right)\right)$ and $f,I_{k} \in C([0, \tau] \times \mathbb{R} \times \mathbb{R}; \mathbb{R}), k = 1, 2, 3, \ldots, p$, such that \[ |f(t,z,u)| \leq a_{0}|z|^{\alpha_{0}} + b_{0}|u|^{\beta_{0}} +c_{0}, \quad u \in \mathbb{R}, z \in \mathbb{R}. \] \[ |I_{k}(t,z,u)| \leq a_{k}|z|^{\alpha_{k}} + b_{k}|u|^{\beta_{k}} +c_{k}, k=1,2,3 \ldots, pu \in \mathbb{R}, z \in \mathbb{R} \] with $\frac{1}{2} \leq \alpha_{k} < 1, \frac{1}{2} \leq \beta_{k} < 1, k= 0,1,2,3, \ldots, p$ Under this condition we prove the following statement: For all open nonempty subsets $\omega$ of $\Omega$ the system is approximately controllable on $[0, \tau]$. Moreover, we could exhibit a sequence of controls steering the nonlinear system from an initial state $z_{0}$ to an $\epsilon$ neighborhood of the nal state $z_{1}$ at time $\tau > 0$.
