Objectives: Purpose is to find out functional meta-lingual constructions ( meta-lingual reflexive ), expressed be metaphor, in political texts, that is one of the main way in a connection the politics with the society and lead to understanding and establishing effective dialogue between political speaker and addressee. Material and methods: A systematic analysis of scientific literature on the above-mentioned issues was conducted, To achieve this goal; cases of using a metaphor as a meta-language reflexion in political texts was described; a comparative analysis of the influence of political texts with meta-language elements, expressed by a metaphor, and political texts without meta-material elements on the addressee is carried out. Results: It has been found out that the meta-language element, expressed by a metaphor, performs a function in political texts: - influence on the intelligence, sense and will of the addressee; - Adjustment of concepts in order to create a certain thought and structure of human thinking in the process of political activity; - identification of the social, political, value orientations of the addressee, his ideological heterogeneity; - formation of appraisal meanings concerning the speeches of subjects of political discourse, that is, positive or negative thoughts on a particular political situation. Conclusions: Metaphorical reflections expressed by a metaphor - are an integral element in contemporary political discourse, because in a context of fierce competition, the subjects of political activity need to express their point of view clearly and clearly, persuade the interlocutor in their own right, attract as many supporters as possible to support their ideas

The present article concentrates on the way of working out the program of effective intervention of professional reflection in psychology students. Five stages of study are presented. In the first step, in the literature review the designation of professional reflection was defined as a set of structure components: prognostic thinking, reflexivity, positive professional identity and agency. In the second step, in the empirical studies the external and internal factors of professional reflection were selected and examined among a group of professional psychologists (N=54). The analysis of empirical data of professional reflection factors and the level of its formation in psychology professionals made it possible to clearly identify the basic conditions for the intervention program «Professional reflection development» and its effect among psychology students. Only twenty five students (N=25) were self-selected in a 12-week intervention program forming an intervention group (IG). There are four studies of the program: cognitive, personality-related, motivational and emotional-volitional. All of them contain interaction, workshops, webinars, and art-cases. Remaining students (N=28) formed a control group (CG). The results obtained in both student groups and differences between them were further analyzed and explained.

The paper is concerned with the propagation of plane waves in a transversely isotropic two temperature generalized thermoelastic solid half-space with voids and rotation. The governing equations are modified in the context of Lord and Shulman theory of generalized thermoelasticity and solved to show the existence of four plane waves in the x – z plane. Reflection of these plane waves from thermally insulated stress free surface is also studied to obtain a system of four non-homogeneous equations. For numerical computations of speed and reflection coefficients, a particular material is modelled as transversely isotropic generalized thermoelastic solid half-space. The speeds of plane waves are computed against the angle of propagation to observe the effects of two temperature and rotation. Reflection coefficients of various reflected waves are also computed against the angle of incidence to observe the effects of various parameters.

The article presents Polish adaptation of the Rumination-Reflection Questionnaire (RRQ) designed by Paul D. Trapnell and Jennifer D. Campbell. It starts with theoretical background that refers to the distinction between ruminative and reflective types of private self-consciousness and presents psychometric properties of the Polish version of RRQ. Obtained results (N = 798) are similar to the results of studies conducted on the original version of RRQ which shows that the adapted version of RRQ is reliable and theoretically valid instrument and can be used in scientific research.

Przedmiotem analiz podjętych w artykule jest kwestia języka współczesnych dyskursów pedagogiki. Na przykładzie kluczowych kategorii współczesnej humanistyki – refleksji, refleksji krytycznej, refleksyjności oraz refleksywności – zilustrowano wagę problemu wykorzystania w badaniach pedagogicznych koncepcji wypracowanych na terenie filozofii, socjologii i psychologii. Zakres prezentowanych tu analiz wyznaczają następujące kwestie: 1) W jakich znaczeniach pojawia się refleksja krytyczna oraz kategorie pokrewne (refleksja, refleksyjność i refleksywność) we współczesnych koncepcjach filozoficznych, socjologicznych i psychologicznych?; 2) Jaki charakter mają relacje między tymi kategoriami?; 3) Jakie są treści, funkcje oraz miejsca przypisywane są refleksji, refleksji krytycznej, refleksyjności i refleksywności we współczesnych dyskursach pedagogicznych. Krytyczna refleksja została przedstawiona w artykule w dwóch odsłonach. Pierwszą z nich tworzą wyniki analizy jej relacji z kategoriami pokrewnymi. Drugą część tekstu stanowi próba ukazania refleksji kry-tycznej w perspektywie treści, funkcji oraz miejsc, w których się pojawia we współczesnych dyskursach pedagogicznych.
The subject of the analyzes undertaken in this paper is the issue of the language of pedagogy. The example of the key categories of contemporary humanities – reflection, critical reflection, reflectivity and reflexivity – illustrates the importance of the problem of using concepts developed in philosophy, sociology and psy-chology in pedagogical research. The scope of the analyzes presented here is determined by the following issues: 1) What are the meanings of critical reflection and related categories (reflection, reflexivity and reflexivity) in contemporary philosoph-ical, sociological and psychological concepts?, 2) What are the nature of the relationships between these categories?, 3) What are the contents, functions and places of reflection, critical reflection, reflexivity and reflexivity in contemporary pedagogical discourses? Critical reflection is presented in the article in two “scenes”. The first is formed by the results of the analysis of relations with related categories. The second part of the text is an attempt to show critical reflection in the perspective of the content, functions and places in which it appears in contemporary pedagogical discourses.

The notion of chaos has usually negative connotations and is associated with mess, disorganization or destruction. However in what is unpredictible, undefined some kind of potentiality is hidden. The reflexive conception of education is a chance to accept chaos in the educational space and to perceive an evolutionary impulse in it . The reflexive education assumes that profound thought (reflection) is the source of seeking for the sense of being, permanent recognizing of one’s own way, it is the strength in fighting for one’s humanity in chaotic in its nature reality.
Pojęcie chaosu ma zwykle negatywne konotacje i kojarzy się z bałaganem, dezorganizacją czy też destrukcją. Jednak w tym, co nieprzewidywalne, niedookreślone kryje się pewnego rodzaju potencjalność. Szansą dla zaakceptowania w przestrzeni edukacyjnej chaosu i dostrzeżenia w nim rozwojowego impulsu może być refleksyjna koncepcja edukacji. Edukacja refleksyjna zakłada, że głęboki namysł (refleksja) jest źródłem poszukiwania sensu istnienia, permanentnego rozpoznawania własnej drogi, siłą w walce o własne człowieczeństwo w chaotycznej ze swej natury rzeczywistości.

The problem of energy reflection and transmission of an oblique incident plane harmonic wave at the surface of an elastic porous solid halfspace immersed in fluid is considered. The case of pure elastic behaviour of the system with incompressible material of skelton is analysed. Considerations are based on the two parametric theory of fluid-saturated porous solid in which the isotropic pore structure is described by the volume porosity and the parameter characterising tortuosity of pores. The influence of mechanical properties of both the physical constituents and angle of wave incidence on the energy reflection and transmission coefficients is analysed. Two general cases of the wave interaction are investigated: waves incident from the bulk fluid on the surface of porous halfspace, and waves (fast, slow and shear) incident from a fluid-saturated porous solid. Calculations have been made for the system composed of porous fused glass bead solid filled with water in one case and with ethyl alcohol in the other case and diagrams of the results have been shown.
W pracy rozważono zagadnienie odbicia i przenikania fal harmonicznych ukośnie padających na powierzchnię porowatej półprzestrzeni zanurzonej w płynie. Przeanalizowano czysto sprężyste zachowanie się układu o nieściśliwym materiale szkieletu. Do rozważań wykorzystano dwuparametrową teorię deformowalnego ośrodka porowatego nasyconego płynem, w której struktura porów szkieletu charakteryzowana jest przez porowatość objętościową i krętość porów. Przeanalizowano wpływ mechanicznych własności składników fizycznych oraz kąt padania fali na energetyczne współczynniki odbicia i przenikania fal. Rozważono dwa przypadki: gdy fala pada na powierzchnię porowatej półprzestrzeni od strony samego płynu oraz przypadek, gdy fale (szybka, wolna i poprzeczna) padają od strony nasyconego płynem porowatego ośrodka. Obliczenia przeprowadzono dla ośrodka porowatego ze spiekanych kulek szklanych wypełnionych wodą w jednym przypadku oraz alkoholem etylowym w drugim przypadku.

The paper concentrates on knowledge from the perspective of constructivism. We review several concepts (Dewey, Gordon, Bruner and others), with an emphasis on those for whom understanding knowledge is crucial and who focus their attention not so much on the external manifestations of student activity but on their mental significance and the processes involved. The discussion presented in the paper is of a theoretical nature, while the analysis of knowledge is not conducted from the psychological (individualized) perspective, but exposes the social consequences of education. Thus, the analysis does not deal with the mind as such, but what the school system does with students’ minds and what consequences this may have. As a result of the analysis undertaken the paper is in two parts. The first part reflects the approach of teachers to knowledge when pragmatic constructivism is the point of reference. The second presents knowledge from the learner’s perspective, as a participant in the educational process. Finally, the conclusions list the social consequences of education derived from specific (positivist/anti-positivist) concepts of knowledge.

The article presents the role of teachers’ professional reflection in inclusive education. A teacher in a classroom with pupils with diverse educational needs (including persons with disabilities, behavioural disorders or coming from different cultures) faces many non-standard educational situations. The purpose of the essay is to critically analyze the influence of J. Derrida’s deconstruction on David J. Gunkel’s book Deconstruction (MIT Press 2021). Gunkel’s handbook is aimed at making deconstruction a tool of critical thinking accessible to non-professionals. It turns out that accomplishing this task comes at the expense of precisely the critical potential of deconstruction itself. Gunkel is well aware that his arguments are sometimes superficial and overlook deeper problems that should be addressed. Such a failure takes the form of a fetishistic denial, which in psychoanalysis is summarized by the formula “I know well, but all the same.” In turn, deconstruction itself, insofar as it is separated from Kant’s transcendental philosophy and Hegel’s dialectics, becomes an academic ideology. Restoring its proper subversive potential can only be done by returning to a philosophy of reflection, in which the thinker himself must ultimately consider his own position as an author and bring it under criticism. This is the path that Gunkel avoids, because he could then no longer be the author of a handbook on deconstruction, rather than someone who practices deconstruction.

The main aim of the paper is reconstruction of the concept of Bildung (considered as forming the man’s personality) in an educational novel entitled Henry von Ofterdingen written by Novalis (Friedrich von Hardenberg). Novalis’s novel – inspired by Goethe’s Wilhelm Meister Lehrejahre – is one of the most original early romantic works which prove the importance of the idea of Bildung for German culture at the beginning of the 19th century. In the first part of the text the author discusses the literary image of Bildung presented in the plot of the novel and then indicates its inner contradiction. In the second part of the article the author reconstructs the philosophical roots of this ideal regarding Novalis’s notion of Bildung in light of the thought of German idealism (transcendental philosophy of Immanuel Kant and Johann Gottlieb Fichte in particular) because the theory of romantic progressive poetry (elaborated most fully by Friedrich Schlegel) originates there. The perspective taken in the paper allows the author to reveal the universal significance of the inner contradiction of the romantic idea of forming man’s personality as a sign of the fundamental crisis of the modern ideal of humanity.

Opis:
Comb transducers are applied in ultrasonic testing for generation of Rayleigh or Lamb waves by scattering of the incident bulk waves onto surface waves at the periodic comb-substrate interface. Hence the transduction efficiency, although rarely discussed in literature, is an important factor for applications determining the quality of the measured ultrasonic signals. This paper presents the full-wave theory of comb transducers concluded by evaluation of their efficiency for a couple of examples of standard and certain novel configurations.

The portraying of the subjects in front of the looking glass is a literary topic in which the body is involved in a range of possibilities. From the corporeality of the “other” reflected by/in the narcissistic or self-critic perspective about the appearance of oneself, the mirror offers to Spanish contemporary poets a fruitful frame to explore all the variations of anagnorisis and dis-cognition. The text develops a theoretical and cultural episteme in order to read the work of a number of Spanish poets, in which the body analysed in the looking glass could adopt the form of grief, complaint, egotistical exposure, cultural references (e.g. Alice or Narcissus), or technological exam.

From the times of Leon Kanner, autism was presented as a clinical image of behaviours. The descriptions were as comprehensive as possible, the diagnostic systems and therapies were optimised, and the analyses of various approaches to the etiology of autism were carried out. The contemporary knowledge is founded mainly on the analyses of behaviours, observations, and experiments. Cognition or self-awareness, which is a priority concept in this matter, can also be seen in the objects human beings create: in this case, people diagnosed with autism. The research was conducted at the turn of 2018 and 2019. The aim of the study was acquiring knowledge of autism perception by the individuals who are affected by ASD and able to communicate, according to the age and sex of the respondents. The research was conducted on 168 individuals diagnosed with autism (90 women and 78 men). The innovative aspect of this project lies in using the netnography method for collecting and analysing data. The findings of the research have helped to expand the knowledge of problems that ASD individuals experience and have allowed the subjects of the research to share their own perspectives, including the effect of social labeling on their position in the society.

The article is a cross-sectional study that analyses contemporary Polish poets’ metapoetic reflections on anthroponormative language and their ways of elaborating alternative ways of representing animals. They often unveil oppressive animalistic metaphors, i.a. writting as hunting, and create less obvious ones, for example the poem as an animal. This kind of image commits both the author and the reader of the poem to care – they are both somehow obligated not to objectify animals in their interpretations. By referring to poems (written by Magdalena Bielska, Stanisław Grochowiak, Ryszard Krynicki, Piotr Matywiecki, Krystyna Miłobędzka, Jacek Podsiadło, Wisława Szymborska, Eugeniusz Tkaczyszyn-Dycki) and inspiring essays by Tadeusz Sławek, the author of this article formulates and leads out a concept of post-koine, which is a language critical towards any too narrow idea of the community (koine), the language of a new interspecies community, an inclusive language devoid of violence against animals.

The investigations have been performed in order to choose the specific roughness parameters, which would inform the customer about the diffuse emissive and reflective characteristics of the adhesive tapes used in the thermographic measurements. To achieve that, a series of the surface topography parameters of various adhesive tapes (i.e. objects with diffusive reflective characteristics) and various glass plates (i.e. objects with directional reflective characteristics) has been examined. For the analysis of surface topography the following parameters were selected: Sdr (the Developed Interfacial Area Ratio) and Sdq (the Root Mean Square Surface Slope). These selected parameters seem to be most suitable to describe the properties of the surface in the discussed aspect.

Following along the line of recent works in which the notion of quasi-particles associated with surface acoustic waves of different types was introduced via canonical conservation laws, here the emphasis is placed on the possible exploitation of this dualism in the classical problem of the transmission and reflection of waves by a discontinuity between two media (in perfect contact or with possible delamination) and the more general case of a mono-layer or multi-layer sandwiched slab.
Idąc w ślad za ostatnimi publikacjami, w których użyto pojęcia tzw. quasi-cząstek wprowadzonego poprzez zastosowanie kanonicznych praw zachowania w odniesieniu do powierzchniowych fal akustycznych różnego rodzaju, w prezentowanej pracy położono nacisk na możliwe wykorzystanie dualizmu falowo-quasi-korpuskularnego w klasycznym zagadnieniu przesyłania i odbicia fal na nieciągłości pomiędzy dwoma ośrodkami (doskonale połączonych lub zdelaminowanych) i w ogólniejszym przypadku jednolub wielowarstwowej płycie typu sandwich.

Opis:
The paper presents the verification of a solution to the narrow sound frequency range problem of flat reflective panels. The analytical, numerical and experimental studies concerned flat panels, panels with curved edges and also semicircular elements. There were compared the characteristics of sound reflected from the studied elements in order to verify which panel will provide effective sound reflection and also scattering in the required band of higher frequencies, i.e. above the upper limit frequency. Based on the conducted analyzes, it was found that among some presented solutions to narrow sound frequency range problem, the array composed of panels with curved edges is the most preferred one. Nevertheless, its reflection characteristic does not meet all of the requirements, therefore, it is necessary to search for another solution of canopy which is effective over a wide frequency range.

Opis:
Reflecting structures placed over the stage in auditoria and concert halls should provide sound reflection in a way that enhances sound emission from the stage without causing acoustic defects in the interior. Model studies conducted by the authors were used to determine the relative level of sound reflection by reflecting structures as a function of frequency for a number of geometric configurations and materials. Analysis of the results allowed drawing conclusions about the effect of modifications of the ceiling over the reflecting panels on the quality of the sound reflected from them. It was shown that modification of the ceiling over the reflecting panels by employing highly sound absorbing materials significantly improved the characteristics of the reflected sound. Also, certain configurations of elements located in the space under the ceiling should be avoided, as the experiments indicated the occurrence of adverse acoustic effects.

The 360-degree camera is a relatively new technology that might become an effective tool for the development of students and teachers and overall educational improvement. As “normal” video provides a maximum 130-degree perspective, it could not offer a complex capture of education. This paper presents a way to use a 360-degree camera during two different modes of trainee teachers’ fieldwork and proposes how to evaluate this form of education in terms of teacher-student-environment interactions by identifying the occurrence and duration of each type of interaction. It is evident that the type and intensity of interactions affect fieldwork significantly and may lead to different depths of learning.

The article attempts an analysis of the so called common sense. It points to its advantages and disadvantages for the process of social world cognition. In its first part, it concentrates on selected philosophical concepts that disprove the meaning of informal reasoning. Further, the category of common sense is presented as a threat to political thought and reflection. In its second part, the article concentrates on philosophical concepts that value the influence of practical knowledge on construing identity of an individual and human cognition.
W artykule podejmuję próbę analizy zdrowego rozsądku, czyli tak zwanego common sense. Wskazuję jego wady oraz zalety w perspektywie poznawania świata społecznego. W pierwszej części artykułu koncentruję się na wybranych koncepcjach filozoficznych, które podważają znaczenie myślenia potocznego. Następnie kategorie common sense ujmuję jako zagrożenie dla myśli oraz refleksji politycznej. Natomiast w drugiej części artykułu poświęcam uwagę koncepcjom filozoficznym, które doceniają wpływ wiedzy zdroworozsądkowej na budowanie tożsamości jednostki oraz poznanie człowieka.

Over the years of working at school teachers gain experience that is necessary for their professional development. The teaching experience may appear of little value if teachers do not reflect upon it. Reflection is the key to success in teaching. The article presents the results of a questionnaire conducted with foreign language teachers from Gorzów Wielkopolski, Poland schools who were asked about their reflection. Many teachers (95%) reported that they reflected on their teaching and even made notes (50%). The research outcomes provide interesting facts about teachers’ reflections.

This sketch presents important conceptions of reflectivity - including those of Anthony Giddens and Niklas Luhmann - as well as the developmental stages of the new interest in reflectivity, as opposed to reflection, on the grounds of sociology, and through sociology - in other social sciences as well. Subsequently, attention is drawn to radical reflectivity. Social theory based on the latter is a praxis theory, formulating opinions and beliefs, the propagation of which should lead to their confirmation as a result of their reflexive influence on social reality. Reflectivity is also a principle of relational social epistemology, which implies the necessity of analyzing various relational dimensions of the subject, as well as knowledge understood as a social process. The principle of radical reflectivity leads to pursuit of social theory as a multidimensional criticism of forms of knowledge and models of thinking about the world hitherto existing in European culture. In this search for critical distance, theology has also drawn the interest of reflective social theory.

Bragg scattering of waves propagating in a periodically disturbed substrate is widely applied in optics and micro-acoustic systems. Here, it is studied for Rayleigh waves propagating on a periodically grooved elastic substrate. Practically applied groove depth in the Bragg grating reflectors does not exceed a few percent of the Rayleigh wavelength. Here, the analysis is carried out for periodic grooves of larger depth by applying the elastic plate model for the groove walls. The computed results show that the surface wave existence and reflection depends strongly on both the groove depth and period, and that there are limited domains of both for practical applications, primarily in comb transducers of surface waves.

Purpose: The main purpose of this study is to present leadership limitations that influence leadership effectiveness and examine if it is possible to overcome these limitations. Methodology: The study presents the results of literature analyses and the findings of the recent research studies on leadership. It also refers to literature items that might be helpful in analyzing the leadership limitations. Conclusions: The study indicates that some leadership behaviors that fall into a particular category are useful in understanding and reflecting on their limitations, while other leaders’ actions enable them to overcome those limitations or use them to support leadership effectiveness. Research limitations: This is a theoretical and conceptual study. It formulates propositions to further empirical research studies. Originality: The study analyzes a number of behaviors from different leadership theories. These behaviors fall into four meta-categories: situational, transformational, authentic and boundary spanning. The study also provides information about leadership styles that are useful in understanding and overcoming leadership limitations.

The aim of the paper is to analyze the series of poems about Mr. Cogito and investigate the motifs of mirror and mirror reflection, which are important for the construction of identity of the character created by Zbigniew Herbert. Apart from mirror-as-material-object, there is also mirror-as-metaphor, i.e. acts of self-reflection and self-observation. Yet there is another layer of mirrors there, the one located in “meta-text”, where Herbert joins inter-textual games and ironically approaches both his poetical oeuvre and that of his artistic “masters”.

How can one encourage the development of professional skills in a university subject? How can one use a blog to improve teaching results? These questions motivated the study presented in this article. It is structured around the following two basic and complementary objectives: 1. Designing and implementing a teaching innovation project to promote the development of certain professional skills, using the blog as a tool for self-reflection and 2. Evaluating the experience and collecting students’ comments on the use of the blog in a university context. In pursuit of the second objective, we used a methodology that combined a questionnaire and content analysis. The results make us reflect on the changes that should be introduced in the design of the learning activities and the provision of feedback to utilise the blog as a tool to promote the development of professional skills.

The aim of the article is to show the meaning of practicing silence, enhancing the quality of the reflective skills of the reflective practitioner. These skills – being, speaking, disclosing, testing, and probing – reveal one’s reflective competences, which require time and silence to be developed. The reflective practitioner is a person who can creatively interact with their true-self, others, the world, and God. Therefore, he or she finds time to distance themselves from many stimuli that bombard the mind and the outer environment and treats silence and quietness more as a challenge, rather than a threat to their own existence. Silence, perceived as a space for finding a new quality of one’s identity, is presented in the paper in different perspectives. The meaning of listening silence is especially worth noticing in the domain of education, which is preoccupied with large streams of information coming from varied sources that demand to be acquired. That is why this goal seems important for those who must cope with matters connected with teaching, learning, upbringing, and development. I attempt to deal with this briefly in a theoretical, practically-oriented analysis by suggesting some solutions covered in the material below.

The review of Józef Maria Ruszar’s book Słońce republiki. Cywilizacja rzymska w twórczości Zbigniewa Herberta (2014) [Sun of the republic. Roman civilisation in Zbigniew Herbert’s work]. The author of the review emphasises that Ruszar convincingly inscribed Herbert’s fascination with antiquity (especially Roman antiquity) in the whole historiosophical reflection of the poet. The conviction about the progressive disintegration of the structures of civilization and society was closely related in Herbert’s writing with the sustained defence of Roman virtus. However, the thesis that in his poetic work Herbert was disputing with the programme and ideology of the literary modernism is perceived by the reviewer as questionable.

The present study is concerned with the reflection and transmission of plane waves between two different fluid saturated porous half spaces when longitudinal and transversal waves impinge obliquely at the interface. Amplitude ratios of various reflected and transmitted waves are obtained .The variations of amplitude ratios with angle of incidence are depicted graphically. A particular case of reflection at the free surface in fluid saturated porous half spaces has been deduced and discussed. A special case of interest has also been deduced from the present investigation.

The article represents research into poetry written during the Revolution of Dignity (2014). Such artistic texts are analyzed as a kind of phenomenon of contemporary literature. These are the poems of famous authors or even amateurs, united by a common sacred code. They appeal to the patterns and archetypes of the collective consciousness of Ukrainians. In the poetry of Euromaidan the researcher underlines two types of sacralization, which can be conditionally called masculine and feminine (paternal and maternal). The masculine type of this process realizes a symbolic projection of the figure of Jesus Christ. This symbol emphasizes the determination of the act, active attitude, the idea of fighting for the truth, as well as the willingness to sacrifice their own lives for the common good. The feminine version of the proces of sacralization is the Virgin Mary. This image appeals not to the heroic act, but to its emotional reflection, more specifically – the suffering, pain, traumatic experience of the victim. It corresponds to the archetypal image of the Mother of God, the Suffering Mother, who sacrifices her own son to death and cries for him later. The embodiment of the Christian sacrum in the poetry of the Maidan testifies to the fidelity to both European and Ukrainian traditions.

Opis:
This paper demonstrates a compact MIMO (Multi Input Multi Output) fractal type antenna for ultra-wide band applications. The proposed antenna is manufactured on a lowcost substrate material and the design is analyzed for various iterations in terms of reflection coefficient, gain, and bandwidth. The 50 Ω transmission line feed is used for both fractal patches and a metamaterial structure is used as the ground plane. The proposed design achieved a wide-band frequency response between 5.8 and 15 GHz, with the reflection coefficient of less than –10 dB. Reduced mutual coupling, positive gain and stable radiation patterns were observed throughout the operating band as well. The bandwidth of 9.2 GHz is achieved with the use of a metamaterial structure on the ground plane. The ECC and diversity gain obtained prove the excellent diversity performance of the antenna. The design was simulated using HFSS software and was tested in a lab.

Hegel criticizes the mode of reflection that is typical of the transcendental philosophy of his age. The present article explores the relevance of Hegel’s criticism with regard to contemporary transcendental philosophy, in particular that of Werner Flach. Christian Krijnen shows that, despite substantial modifications of Kant’s conception of transcendental philosophy, not least inspired by Hegel, contemporary transcendental philosophy absolutizes the logic of essence. More precisely, from the perspective of its mode of reflection, contemporary transcendental philosophy basically is an absolutized form of external reflection.

Artykuł podejmuje zagadnienie miejsca i roli sakramentu bierzmowania w pastoralnej misji Kościoła. W części teoretycznej prezentuje aktualne nauczanie Kościoła dotyczące bierzmowania w aspekcie: dogmatycznym, prawnym, katechetycznym i wyznaniowym. Analizuje także znaczenie i sposób przygotowania do przyjęcia bierzmowania. W części badawczej prezentuje wyniki badań własnych przeprowadzonych wśród uczniów gimnazjów. Na ich podstawie opisuje dojrzałość religijną współczesnych kandydatów do bierzmowania oraz formułuje wskazania duszpasterskie związane zarówno z przygotowaniem, jak i z udzielaniem tegoż sakramentu.
The article deals with the place and role of the sacrament of Confirmation in the pastoral mission of the Church. In the theoretical part it presents current teaching of the Church concerning the Confirmation in dogmatic, legal, catechetical and confessional aspects. It also analyzes the meaning of Confirmation as well as the way of preparing to it. In the research part it presents the results of research conducted among middle school students. On the basis of this research it describes religious maturity of today's candidates for Confirmation and formulates pastoral guidelines related to both preparation and administering this sacrament.

Zaprezentowano wyniki interpretacji 3 sekcji w wersji współczynników odbicia (EWO) dla struktury Wierzchowa. Wykonana interpretacja istotnie wzbogaciła zakres informacji przedstawianych w standardowych dokumentacjach sejsmicznych. Uwzględniając dane geologiczne z otworów przebijających strukturę, zidentyfikowano i skorelowano wzdłuż przekrojów kompleksy skalne oraz strefy nieciągłości tektonicznych w obrębie skał permomezozoicznych. Scharakteryzowano poziom o zwiększonej zawartości piaskowców formacji połczyńskiej, zaproponowany do składowania dwutlenku węgla. Stwierdzone zaburzenia tektoniczne występujące w obrębie formacji połczyńskiej przechodzące do wyżej zalegających warstw oraz obecność przewarstwień ilastych obniżają przydatność rozpatrywanej struktury do podziemnego składowania CO2. Wydaje się celowe szersze zastosowanie, także dla innych struktur, procesu przetwarzania materiałów sejsmicznych w postać efektywnych współczynników odbicia z zadaniem rozpoznania budowy geologicznej przypuszczalnych poziomów zbiornikowych pod kątem określenia ich przydatności do składowania gazów przemysłowych.
The paper presents the results of the interpretation of three sections of effective reflection coefficients (ERC) in the Wierzchowo structure. The interpretation significantly enriched the amount of information presented in the standard seismic materials. Taking the geological data from boreholes piercing the structure into account, the Permo-Mesozoic rock complexes and zones of tectonic discontinuities have been identified and correlated along the sections. A horizon of increased content of sandstones in the Połczyn Formation has been characterized, which is the target formation for the storage of carbon dioxide. The observed tectonic disturbances occurring within the Połczyn Formation, which continue into the overlying beds, and the presence of clayey interbeds reduce the usefulness of this structure for the underground storage of CO2. It seems advisable to use the processing of seismic materials into sections of effective reflection coefficients more widely, also for other geological formations, in the exploration of the geological structure of potential reservoir levels to determine their suitability for the storage of industrial gases.

In this paper, the effect of geometry and impedance on the acoustic behavior of wall and lined cylindrical ducts is investigated using a numerical model which enables one to compute the reflection and the transmission coefficients of such ducts using the multimodal scattering matrix. From this matrix, the acoustic power attenuation is deduced. By using these tools, the effect of duct diameter increase and duct diameter decrease of the wall or lined duct section is studied. The numerical results are obtained for two configurations of wall and lined ducts. Numerical coefficients of transmission and reflection as well as the acoustic power attenuation show the relative influence of each type of variation.

Green-Naghdi’s theory of generalized thermoelasticity is applied to study the reflection of P and SV waves from the free surface of a magneto-thermoelastic solid half-space. The boundary conditions are satisfied by appropriate potential functions to obtain a system of four non-homogeneous equations in reflection coefficients. The reflection coefficients depend upon the angle of incidence of P and SV waves, magnetic field, thermal field, diffusion parameters and other material constants. The numerical values of the modulus of the reflection coefficients are shown graphically with the angle of incidence of P and SV waves. The effect of magnetic field is observed significantly on various reflected waves.

The paper takes into account Husserl’s theory of consciousness and presents it in the light of the theory of autopietic system. Consciousness is able to organize its elements, processes, levels and structure into a system only when is capable of reflection. Reflection is essential for unity and efficacy of consciousness.
Świadomość jest podstawą świata ludzkiego życia we wszystkich jego aspektach, również w aspekcie osobowym. Szczególną postacią świadomości jest refleksja. Ma ona największe znaczenie dla jedności, jednolitości, złożoności i efektywności systemu, jakim jest świadomość. Z punktu widzenia historii fenomenologii, kolejne jej przekształcenia – realistyczna, transcendentalna i genetyczna są etapami refleksji rozumianej jako „spojrzenie niezaangażowanego obserwatora”. Skoro rdzeniem metody fenomenologicznej i warunkiem możliwości fenomenologii jest refleksyjność świadomości, nic dziwnego, że fenomenologia nie ma żadnej z góry ustalonej logiki i metodologii, ponieważ swoją metodę i sens może uzyskać poprzez wciąż ponawiany namysł nad sobą.

The propagation characteristics in air core Bragg fiber has been analyzed in this paper by using the two different approaches. Initially, we have computed the exact solution of Helmholtz equation and later the asymptotic limits have been used to calculate the propagation characteristics of TE modes in air core Bragg fiber. In last, we have compared the both results after mathematical computation and find excellent agreement between both approaches.

Through an analysis of several short stories by Stefan Grabiński, the article aims to show that his narrative is based on the principle of a metaphorical mirror, which exposes the dual nature of the world: matter and spirit, good and evil, world and afterworld, inner reality and outer reality. The reflected image of the world does not coincide with the real one. That image in the mirror is beyond human reason and appears as a terrifying truth and as the profound chaos of the soul. Grabiński develops the doubling of reality, which is present – with different meanings – not only in philosophical, religious, psychological and psychoanalytic thought, but also in the field of the paranormal and of parapsychology, through the theme of the double.

The properties of the classical kernel estimator of density function deteriorate when the support of density function is bounded. The use of classical form of kernel estimator causes the increase of the bias estimator, particularly in the so-called boundary region, close to end of support. It can also lead to undesirable situation where density function estimator has a different support than the density function. The paper presents selected bias reduction procedures, such as reflection method and its modification. An example is presented with an attempt to compare considered procedures.

The mutual relations between theory (seen as a set of theoretical statements) and empiricism is of special importance, especially in pedagogics. Why? Since pedagogics is immersed in practice, everyday reality and the mundane. The author focuses his reflections on the observation of an insufficient use of the theoretical potential by contemporary social sciences. Obviously, this is accompanied by the insufficient use of the research potential, which in turn deepens the stagnation in the field of theory. The author takes into account the classical approaches to theory with its relations with empiricism and moreover indicates contemporary exemplifications of this state of affairs. He moreover claims that research results are inadequately linked to theoretical reflection and indicates the similarities and differences in this respect in the field of social sciences.

This article shows a method of the recognition of God, which we can find in the philosophical and theological thought of the thinker from Copenhagen. This method is different from the one we can find in the history of religious ideas of the West Europe, that, to a considerable degree, fluctuated around Augustin’s credo ut intelligam and Anselm‘s fides quaerens intellectum. Naturally, we remember the maxim of Tertullian, who professed credo quia absurdum and who, in his De carne Christi, formulated this idea during of the polemic with Hellenistic thinkerswho accused Christianity of irrationality. However, in the Middle Ages, thinkers did not appeal to this idea, because the thought of this period, above all, wanted to subordinate faith the reason or to reconcile the reason and faith. Søren Kierkegaard suggests that when all other possibilities of knowledge of God have failed, we can turn back and attempt a new method. In other words, it is necessary to completely discard the reason to make the jump into faith and to live in truth on the model of Christ, God Incarnate.

The presented article is the attempt to grasp axiological trains in the works of Izydora Dąmbska. The principal topics of interests of Izydora Dąmbska who was one of the most outstanding representatives of the philosophical Lvov-Warsaw School concentrated on the problems belonging to epistemology and methodology. The main goal of this article is to show that axiological reflexion is as important part of Dąmbska’s philosophy as the mentioned above.

Opis:
First demonstrated by Staw (1976), escalation of commitment is the tendency for an individual to increase their commitment to a failing course of action when they are personally responsible for the negative consequences. An attempt was made to replicate this finding and test whether individual differences in numeracy and cog native reflection could help explain such an effect. No evidence for escalation of commitment amongst the participants was found (N = 365). Participants simply invested more in more promising projects. Also, no evidence was found that numeracy or cognitive reflection predict escalation behaviour. The validity of escalation of commitment behaviour is discussed which suggests that future work should look to explore the boundary conditions of such an effect.

The article investigates the process of reflection of surface spin waves passing through the interface of uniaxial and biaxial ferromagnets in a planar external magnetic field directed along the hard axis of ferromagnet. The problem is solved using the spin density formalism and the Landau-Lifshitz equations for the case of the absence of dissipation in the system. Geometrical optics formalism is used to describe the processes of refraction of surface spin waves propagating in the ferromagnetic medium with non uniform distribution of magnetic parameters. Quantum mechanical approach is used for calculation of the amplitudes of reflected and transmitted waves. It is shown that spin wave birefringence phenomenon appears at the interface of two uniform ferromagnetic components. Frequency and field dependencies of reflection coefficients for different branches of spin waves are obtained in the study. It is shown that it is possible to change the “optical” parameters of the system by only changing a magnitude of the external homogeneous magnetic field. It is also shown that reflection amplitude depends heavily on the angle of incidence.

The paper introduces the concept of a critical incident (CI) in the context of foreign language teaching and discusses its importance for teachers` professional development as a factor leading to a teacher´s awareness of his/her classroom. The ability to diagnose critical incidents is seen as an inseparable part of a teacher´s ability to control the teaching context and thus create critical events (CE). This paper also introduces the concept of an appraisal system (Smith and Lazarus 1993 ), understood as one´s evaluation of the relationship between one´s success and failure in respect of past experience and the ability to adapt to an immediate context. In my analysis I will follow Scherer´s (1984) taxonomy of components of appraisal systems such as novelty, the pleasantness of a task and coping potential, among others. This appraisal system is seen as emotionally-driven but it also emphasizes the cognitive dimension and the interaction between affective and cognitive processing. In the empirical part of the paper, the study on CI in teaching EFL is reported on. The main objective of the study was to make in-service teachers of EFL reflect upon their most memorable critical incident (CI) and evaluate it from the affective point of view. The study was also to make the subjects more aware of themselves and their classroom presence. The research instrument used in the project was the Geneva Appraisal Questionnaire -GAQ (Scherer 2001), based on Scherer´s taxonomy.

The Poznań German Library (Poznańska Biblioteka Niemiecka – PBN), founded by prof. Hubert Orłowski, a renowned Germanist from the Adam Mickiewicz University and celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, is one of the most valuable editorial initiatives in Polish humanities after 1989. Its authors and editors in the volumes published within this series attempted to familiarize Polish readership with the reflection of German intellectuals on the culture and history of Germany and German nation. Therefore, it’s worth recalling in what circumstances the PBN emerged, what ideas motivated its founder and how the PBN shaped the notions about Germans among Poles.

The ultrasonic ring array, designed for examining the female breast with the use of ultrasonic transmission tomography (UTT), has been adapted for reflection method trials. By altering the activation time of ultrasonic elementary transducers, the parameters of the focus were changed with the aim at improving the quality of the obtained ultrasound image. For this purpose, a phantom consisting of rods having varying thicknesses was analyzed when moving the position of the focus with the use of dynamic focusing along the symmetry axis of the ring array ranging from 30 to 130 mm from central transducers. In previous trials, which applied an algorithm using the sum of all the acoustic fields, a series of simulations was performed in conditions identical to the phantom trial. This paper documents attempts at improving the parameters of the acoustic field distribution during unconventional focusing. The research here presented is a continuation of examinations focusing on the acoustic field distribution inside the ultrasonic ring array with the aim at finding the best possible cross-section of the female breast using the reflection method.

This paper investigates how the values of negative feedback from students’reflections should be exploited and utilized as an approach of pedagogical development. It was extracted as a step of the 3-year-action-research circles with an empirical study using the data collected from 96 cases of students’ reflections in a university of Poland for both qualitative and quantitative analysis. Regardless the limitation of the diversity of the research tools and types of data, the study found the noticeable lessons through the process of problematizing the significant learning. The data was framed from the negative awareness at the wording and surface levels for quantitative descriptive and then these signals were directed to locate the messages holding the negative signals for qualitative analysis. Eight groups of codes were categorized using Atlas.ti from 172 quotations, extracted from 140 extracts of 96 cases of students’ reflections. The findings show that the negative signals are important to the teacher’s modifications and actions to alternate the future plans and teaching. In addition, seven problems were also generated from analyzing the quotations using this design. The attempts to fix these problems would facilitate the teachers to improve the skills of teaching and quality of the course. A different way of looking at students’ negative signals of this paper could be seen as an innovative approach to pedagogical development in comparison to the common usage of feedback itself which has been exploited divergently in education.

The article deals with the simplest, least philosophically engaged, attempts to define analogy. The author is skeptical as far as the possibility of reducing analogy to the linguistic equipment of logic or of enclosing it in any formal schemes is concerned. Looking for the ontic basis of analogy, he shows its possible rooting in objects. In doing so he employs the notions of idea and model as defined by himself. He suggests an irreplaceable role of analogy in scientific reflection.

The technique of X ray topography with the asymmetric reflection geometry of X-ray diffraction presented in this paper as useful tool for structural characterization of materials, particularly, epitaxial thin films and semiconductor multi-layered crystal systems used for the optoelectronic devices. New possibilities of this technique for a layer-by-layer visualization of structural changes in the subsurface crystal layers are demonstrated for semiconductors after various types of surface treatment, such as chemical etching, laser irradiation and ion implantation.

The discovery of mirror neurons and the characterization of their response properties is certainly an important achievement in neurophysiology and cognitive neuroscience. The reference to the role of mirror neurons in ‘reading’ the intentions of other creatures and in the learning process fulfils an explanatory function in understanding many cognitive phenomena beginning from imitating, towards understanding, and finishing with complex social interactions. The focus of this paper is to review selected approaches to the role of mirror neurons in mental activity as understanding, and to conclude with some possible implications for researches on mirror neurons for philosophical theories of understanding.

This work investigates rotational effects on propagation and reflection of waves at the free surface of a micropolar fibre-reinforced medium with voids under magnetic fields. When the P-wave is incident on the free surface, there exist four coupled reflected plane waves traveling in the medium; quasi-longitudinal displacement (qLD) wave, quasi-transverse displacement (qTD) wave, quasi-transverse microrotational (qTM) wave and a wave due to voids. Normal mode analysis is adopted in concomitant with Snell’s laws, and appropriate boundary conditions in determination of the solution. Amplitude ratios which correspond to reflected waves in vertical and horizontal components are presented analytically and graphically.

Celem artykułu jest analiza zagadnienia związanego z wykorzystaniem efektu lustrzanego odbicia w architekturze. Omówione są tu przykłady projektów i realizacji o wysokich walorach estetycznych i funkcjonalnych, uzyskanych dzięki użyciu luster. Autorka koncentruje się na motywach determinujących powstawanie lustrzanych obiektów, a także bada ich wpływ na otoczenie, kontekst miejsca i odbiorców. Prezentuje również szereg zalet estetycznych, jak i praktycznych, dzięki którym architektura ta staje się integralną częścią środowiska i intensyfikuje relacje z odbiorcą. Na podstawie przykładów można zauważyć wyraźny wzrost tendencji tworzenia budynków o lustrzanych elewacjach, co stanowi wyraz poszukiwania nowych aspektów postrzegania architektury.
The aim of the article is to analyze architectural objects using the mirror reflection effect. The given examples of projects and world-wide implementations present high aesthetic and functional values obtained through the use of reflection. The author focuses on the motives that cause that mirrored buildings are created, and also examine their impact on the surroundings and people. In addition, the article presents a number of aesthetic and practical advantages of mirrored architecture which is becoming more and more popular. For these reason using mirrors may indicate the search for new aspects of the perception of architecture.

In this work, reflection and transmission of electromagnetic wave by a periodic ferrite-dielectric photonic crystal are investigated theoretically and numerically. The ferrite material is described and its main parameters are given in detail. After the construction of the problem, the reflection and transmission coefficients are derived in a closed form by a transfer matrix method. The reflected, transmitted, and loss powers of the crystal are calculated using these coefficients. In the numerical results the mentioned powers are computed and illustrated as a function of frequency, angle of incidence, dielectric thickness, and applied magnetic field intensity when the damping coefficient changes.

The study explores trainee teachers’ opinions on selected aspects of the languageteaching profession. Reflecting on the reasons for becoming a teacher, on a language teacher’s professional qualities, and on the positive and negative aspects of the profession appears to be necessary at the starting point of professional training. A qualitative method was employed to collect the data. The students were asked to answer four survey questions pertaining to the issues mentioned above. Thirty-five undergraduate students completed the survey. Their answers were then analysed, which resulted in suggesting some procedures that could be implemented in the training programme. The findings revealed generally positive attitudes to the language teaching profession. However, some actions should be also taken to eliminate a few subjective theories that could negatively influence the students’ approach, such as the feeling of having power over learners, or controversial ways of dealing with discipline problems in the classroom. This paper presents a simulation study of the simultaneous reconstruction of the non-smooth strain distribution of an optical fiber Bragg grating and its temperature, which is based on the reflection spectrum of the reflected beam of the grating. The transition matrix method was used to model the reflection spectrum of the grating, and the nonlinear NelderMead optimization method was used to simultaneously reconstruct the strain distribution along the grating and its temperature. The results of simulations of simultaneous reconstruction of the strain profile and temperature indicate good accord with the strain profiles and temperature set. The reconstruction errors of the strain profiles are less than 1.2 percent and the temperature change errors are less than 0.2 percent, with a noise level of 5 percent.

The reflection coefficient of the open end belongs among the essential parameters in the physical description of a flue organ pipe. It leads directly to practical topics such as the pipe scaling. In this article, sound propagation is investigated inside an organ pipe with the most intense mean flow that is achievable under musically relevant conditions. A theoretical model is tested against the experimental data to obtain a suitable formula for the reflection coefficient when a non-negligible flow through the open end is considered. The velocity profile is examined by means of particle image velocimetry. A fully developed turbulent profile is found and interactions of the acoustic boundary layer with the turbulent internal flow are discussed. A higher value of the end correction than expected from the classical result of Levine and Schwinger is found, but this feature shall be associated with the pipe wall thickness rather than the mean flow effects.

The category of reflection has a long tradition in education. The aim of this article is to focus on the reasons for the difficulties of putting this construct into practice and on educational consequences of this, as well on some paradoxes in education today. Among the main reasons for the difficulties are discussed: the interpretation of reflection, the disregard for the specifics of the profession of the FL teacher in curriculum standards and administrative regulations and the negative influence of market-oriented ideology on education and teacher training. The lack of comprehension of, and/or the misinterpretation of the idea of reflection have negative consequences for education and teacher training. The article concludes with some suggestions for the teacher and pupil education, including a broadly understood idea of reflection.

Jego istotą jest gotowość nauczycieli do wyjścia poza tradycyjną koncepcję doskonalenia zawodowego, którego podstawę stanowi umiejętność aplikacji wiedzy teoretycznej w praktyce. Nowa idea zakłada występowanie u osób doskonalących się szczególnego rodzaju refleksji. Zarówno gdy zajmują się one danym przypadkiem, jak i po zakończeniu pewnego etapu pracy. Jest to „refleksja w działaniu” i „refleksja nad działaniem”.

Opis:
Ray tracing simulation of sound field in rooms is a common tool in room acoustic design for predicting impulse response. There are numerous commercial engineering tools utilising ray tracing simulation. A specific problem in the simulation is the modelling of diffuse reflections when contribution of individual surface is prevailing. The paper introduces modelling of scattering which is interesting when the whole impulse response of a room is not a goal but contribution of certain surface. The main goal of the Project is to shape directivity characteristics of scattered reflection. Also, an innovative approach is suggested for converting the energy histogram information obtained by ray tracing into an “equivalent impulse response”. The proposed algorithm is tested by comparing the results with measurements in a real sound field, realised in a scaled model where a diffusing surface is hardware-implemented.

In the study, wave propagation along aorta is studied for different normal and pathological conditions in distal arteries. The mathematical model is based on the axisymmetric incompressible Navier-Stokes equations for blood and momentum equations for an incompressible viscoelastic arterial wall. The solution has been found as a superposition of forward and backward running waves. The blood pressure and flow curves measured by ultrasound in larger systemic arteries of ten healthy volunteers have been used for identification of the model parameters. It is shown that individual geometry plays an essential role in the location of positive and negative wave reflection sites along the aorta and, thus, in the pressure and flow patterns as well as blood distribution into the side branches. The model is validated by comparative study with the same dependencies computed previously on a 55-tube model as well as on the measurement data. The model can be used for determination of the individual parameters for patient-specific cardiovascular models and further in silico modeling of the outcomes of surgical and therapeutic procedures.

The article analyzes methods of implementing antitheatrical discourse in Ukrainian dramaturgy. Different types of antitheatricality in literary texts are distinguished on the basis of plays by M. Starytskyi, I. Karpenko-Karyi, A. Krushelnytskyi, V. Vynnychenko, Ya. Mamontiv, V. Cherednychenko, and M. Kulish. The authors define key vectors that the antitheatrical discourse follows: criticism of theater as an institution, criticism of the drama school / method, criticism of theatricality and acting, including in offstage situations. It is arguably reasonable to examine the phenomenon of antitheatrical prejudice in the context of the theory of metadrama as one of its factors. Artistic interpretation of the theater in an ironic or farcical vein, discussions over the repertoire that is no longer relevant, the aesthetic nature of stage technique, and discredit of acting as an occupation all generally encourage dramatic conventionality to double. Most common metadramatic devices used to implement antitheatricality in Ukrainian drama are believed to include a play within a play, adaptation of spectator’s reception for stage, and intertextual references.

The first-person documentary literature plays an important role in revising the Past. Until recently it was considered to be outside the mainstream study, but nowadays it gets more and more attention. In the absence of unified concept as to what the first-person documentary literature is and if it actually can be considered as literature at all, many local theories burst out. The first-person documentary literature offers various points of view on the course of historical events. In the same time it can be used to verify them since there is an ethical or metaphysical reflection to it.

Abstract The paper presents the methodology of the analysis of the materials used in solar energy conversion, and an elaborated example with simulations of obtained results. Material properties are selected in relation to the need of sunlight illumination applications in civil constructions. This process is presented , starting from the analysis of some aspects of solar radiation, through the calculations of lens curvature and leading to the execution of simulations in different conditions. Graphical presentation of the phenomenon, it can visualize the process of shaping curves. The materials such as glass, polymers, metals, and gases have been discussed. Particular attention was paid to the results of the transmission of materials, their reflection and absorption of solar radiation. Moreover, the research problems of illumination and reflection in multi-layer structures used for civil constructions have been presented.

The paper focuses on the characteristics of dialogue as a specific genre that already flourished in the antiquity and on the description of the style of selected Czech dialogues from the 20th and 21st centuries. The genre of dialogue (literary dialogue)consists of written texts that simulate conversation between two (or more) interlocutors. In literary dialogues, the confrontation of presented considerations and statements is crucial for the constitution of their sense. As to functions, these dialogues are multiform; the aesthetic function is often combined with scientific or practical information, philosophical reflection, or persuasion. It is often claimed that the genreof dialogue has been neglected since the end of the 18th century. The aim of the second part of the paper is to instantiate that dialogues are also written in modern  times. Ten Czech dialogues from 1906 to 2022 are briefly analysed. These texts are built (sometimes playfully) upon the style and structure of classical dialoguesand adapted for  new purposes and the contemporary communication conditions. For instance, dialogues are used as an instrument for popular  enlightenment or for comparison of political conceptions

In this paper, we have obtained theoretically a convenient way to improve the tandem solar cell efficiency by using one-dimensional binary photonic crystals in the anti-reflection coating and intermediate reflective layer. Also, we design and simulate our structure by using two different methods; MATLAB program based on a transfer matrix method and COMSOL Multiphysics software based on a finite element method. We have obtained the localization of the photons energy on the appropriate cell and then reduced the energy losses by controlling the photonic band gap. The present design is more convenient for cold countries.

This paper presents the results of a laboratory experiment on transmission, reflection, and dissipation of irregular waves over smooth impermeable submerged breakwaters. Experiments included 75 JONSWAP-based irregular waves with five different wave characteristics generated at three water depths in a 2D wave flume. The investigated breakwater sections were three rectangular breakwaters with different widths, a toothed rectangular breakwater, and a trapezoidal breakwater with a slope of 1:2. A new comprehensive dimensionless parameter (β) was proposed representing both wave hydrodynamic and breakwater geometry characteristics. This parameter could be employed as a suitable descriptive option to make an accurate estimate of the hydraulic performances of submerged breakwaters. The β parameter is composed of four conventional simple dimensionless variables. However, the results revealed that the relative submergence depth significantly affects the hydraulic responses of submerged breakwaters. The transmission, reflection and dissipation of waves show a logarithmic growth, a logarithmic reduction, and a quadratic decreasing trend against the increasing of β parameter, respectively. The verifications of results revealed the high efficiency of β parameter for data reported by Carevic et al. (2013) with R2 = 0.88 and high agreement with predictions made by Van der Meer et al. (2005) formulation with R2 = 0.93.

The use of a cylindrical high-explosive charge with a wave-shaper is an efficient way to obtain an ultra-high pressure and a convergent detonation wave. An analysis of flow fields corresponding to the regular and Mach reflection of detonation waves in a cylindrical high-explosive charge with a wave-shaper is presented in this paper. The pressure, flow velocity and triple point growth angle of the Mach stem were calculated. The Mach stem height was also determined by using the modified Whitham method. The results show that the Mach stem height rises from zero at the critical angle of Mach reflection and changes to the Chapman-Jouguet detonation state with the propagation of the detonation waves. Shock indentation experiments were conducted, in which a wave-shaper was used in a cylindrical high-explosive charge to form Mach reflection detonation waves. The results showed that the discrepancy between the experimental results and the theoretical calculations was less than 15%, which proves the validity of the proposed theoretical model.

Most of the algae are eukaryotic organisms commonly found in the aquatic environment. They are characterized by a great variety of species and the possibility of growing under various conditions. They photosynthesize, mainly needing light, water and carbon dioxide to grow. Algae can be used in various branches of the economy for the production of food, animal feed, bio-fertilizers, pigments, they can be used for sewage treatment or carbon dioxide sequestration. The aim of the work was to investigate the effect of the material from which the walls of containers are made on the bioreactors for algae cultivation. Two wall materials were used in the research: shiny aluminium foil and matte black light-absorbing paper. The content of photosynthetic pigments in algae cells, optical density, temperature and pH were examined. The tests were performed in triplicate and the standard error was calculated with the 95% confidence interval. It was observed that the glossy aluminium foil wall significantly improved the growth of the Chlorella vulgaris algae at the lowest light intensities by more than 4 times chlorophyll a compared to the sample placed in a container with walls of matte black paper. This means that the use of walls in shiny aluminium foil containers can reduce the lighting costs and contribute to an increase in the produced biomass.

Research Objective: There is a growing literature about contemplative pedagogy in higher education, an approach to learning which prioritizes experiential, reflective practices meant to promote autonomy in learning. This essay will explore how Ignatian pedagogy, rooted in the 475-year tradition of Jesuit education, promotes a form of contemplative pedagogy especially apt for what this journal describes as the VUCA world (volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity). Research Problem and Methods: The essay addresses questions particularly relevant in the wake of the global pandemic: how can education promote greater self-care and self-knowledge? How can it promote greater compassion and care for others, especially the marginalized? How can it encourage people, especially the young, to develop practices that promote lifelong learning, flourishing, and responsibility? Process of Argumentation: The essay will review some of the burgeoning literature on contemplative pedagogy, and draw from the extensive literature about Ignatian pedagogy and especially the latter’s strong emphasis on processes of reflection for the sake of just action. Research Results: The essay will show that there is a rich well of resources in the Ignatian spiritual and pedagogical traditions that promote contemplative pedagogy, and that application of these resources in contemporary educational and formational contexts will help promote lifelong learning, flourishing, and responsibility towards others. Conclusions, Innovations, and Recommendations: Educators are encouraged to introduce or develop contemplative practices such as journaling, guided meditations, focused conversations among peers, reflective critical writing, and others.

Kluczowym staje się koncept dualnej inżynierii przetwarzania informacji w ludzkim mózgu określany mianem kognitywnej refleksji. Artykuł wprowadza w tematykę podejmowania decyzji ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem takich czynników jak: emocje, percepcja, dyspozycja wyboru trybu przetwarzania informacji w mózgu decydenta. W tekście autorzy odwołali się zarówno do klasyki ekonomii behawioralnej, jak i do współczesnych badań korzystających z dyscyplin pokrewnych, jak psychologia i neurobiologia. W pracy podano przykłady ukazujące konsekwencje dualnego przetwarzania informacji przez decydentów na rynkach finansowych. Wykorzystane metody badawcze to: analiza krytyczna literatury oraz dedukcja jako sposób wnioskowania teoretycznego.
The purpose of this article is to present the behavioural dimension of decision-making. In order to understand how information is selected, preferences are established, and finally decisions are made, it is necessary to review the factors that influence this process. The concept of the dual-process theory of information processing becomes crucial. The article introduces the topic of decision-making with a focus on factors such as emotions, perception, and the disposition to choose the mode of information processing in the decision-maker’s brain. The authors refer to the theory of behavioural economics as well as to contemporary research using related disciplines such as psychology and neuroscience. The paper provides examples showing the consequences of the dual-process theory of information processing by decision-makers in financial markets.

Death is a constant element of human life. The awareness of mortality constitutes an essential factor in understanding life. Since time immemorial it is a vital reference point for philosophical systems that attempt to answer the question: How should one live? And they do so from the perspective of human mortality. In Western culture the thanatological subject matter is rarely represented, death does not match the modern lifestyle. Thus, at school, in the family, in the media discussions of death and passing away are either not entered into or the issue is distorted by ignorance, vulgarization or demonization. However, daily life confronts the human being with the death of others and also provokes reflection on one’s own mortality. The need to honestly confront the issue of death requires taking appropriate action in the area of bringing up children, education, popularization and, if need be, also therapy, which will help people to cope with the awareness of the death of others and prepare them for their own death.

Like all those pictures of other countries, which are treated in imagological research, images of Germany are also complex, mediated by social history and historical experience, misunderstanding, misrepresentation and ideological assumptions. On the whole, these images represent the expectations and experiences of the observer even as they can truly be connected with the history, or social and cultural affairs, of the population. Thus, these images appear to be reversible figures that are simultaneously true and the products of subjective perception.

Portfolio jako narzędzie samoregulacji w kształceniu tłumaczy konferencyjnych: wstępne wnioski z badania pilotażowego Z uwagi na to, że od profesjonalnych tłumaczy konferencyjnych oczekuje się autonomicznego rozwoju, zadaniem dydaktyków przekładu powinno być przygotowywanie początkujących tłumaczy do rozwoju zawodowego po ukończeniu edukacji formalnej. Jedną z najtrafniejszych koncepcji w tym kontekście jest pojęcie samoregulacji, opisane przez Barbarę Moser-Mercer. Wdrożenie elementów samoregulacji, tj. refleksji nad procesem tłumaczenia oraz poczynionych postępów, praca nad jakością przekładu oraz rozwijanie praktyk profesjonalnego tłumacza konferencyjnego może być ułatwione przez wprowadzenie „indywidualnie dopasowanego narzędzia” (Kiraly  49), umożliwiającego rozwój zarówno w edukacji uniwersyteckiej, jak i po ukończeniu studiów. Niniejszy artykuł przedstawia koncepcję portfolio jako narzędzia wspierającego samoregulację u początkujących tłumaczy konferencyjnych, które umożliwia im dokumentowanie i ocenianie poczynionych postępów, rozwijanie skutecznych strategii umożliwiających dążenie do wyznaczonych celów oraz skłania do refleksji nad procesem przekładu. Otrzymane wyniki oraz pozytywne reakcje zwrotne od studentów biorących udział w badaniu pilotażowym wskazują na wysoką efektywność portfolio w zakresie rozwoju umiejętności samoregulacyjnych u adeptów przekładu konferencyjnego.
Given that professional interpreters are expected to work in a highly autonomous mode, it is crucial for T&I (Translation and Interpreting) didactics to prepare novice interpreters for the life upon graduation. One of the most pertinent approaches in this context is self-regulation put forward by Barbara Moser-Mercer, whereby students ultimately become self-directed learners. Implementing self-regulatory elements in the SI (simultaneous interpreting) classroom entails introducing strategies such as self-reflection and self-monitoring. Inspiring reflection upon the process and one’s own progress, working towards higher quality standards, and developing the practices of a professional interpreter may be facilitated by providing students with an “individually tailored tool” (Kiraly 49) which enables further development both in class and upon graduation. This article puts forward the SI Portfolio as a self-regulatory tool for novice interpreters in which they can reflect upon and document their progress, evaluate themselves, and develop effective strategies leading to their goals. The results obtained and the positive feedback from the students who participated in the pilot study indicate that implementing the SI Portfolio may be highly efficient with regard to developing self-regulatory skills in novice interpreters.

The present foreword refers to the address delivered by J.M. This article examines various levels of reflection in language learning and teaching, such as reflecting on one’s own foreign language production, on the language system in general, on one’s learning habits and, in the case of the teacher, on the teaching process. The author hypothesizes that all of these are bound to change some of their characteristics depending on features such as age of the learner and learning context. The article examines reflection in adult students of commercial language courses, trying to point out that all the levels of reflection mentioned are supposed to increase in this group. Age is proved to increase language-focused reflectivity in the subjects, whereas the specific learning context might, for reasons of strong personal motivation, be an asset in encouraging learner reflections on their own learning strategies. These conclusions are nonetheless to be treated with caution, for some specific inhibitors to reflection might appear in this group as well, and further research is needed to confirm this possibility.

The paper presents the concept of a fully planar tree-shaped antenna with quasi-fractal geometry. The shape of the proposed radiator is based on a multi-resonant structure. Developed planar tree has symmetrical branches with different length and is fed by a coplanar waveguide (CPW) with modified edge of the ground plane. The antenna of size 29 mm x25 mm has been designed on Taconic - RF-35 substrate (er = 3.5, tgde= 0.0018, h = 0.762 mm). The paper shows simulated and measured characteristics of return loss, as well as measured radiation patterns. The proposed antenna could be a good candidate for broadband applications (for instance: wideband imaging for medical application and weather monitoring radars in satellite communication etc.)

In the course of the 20th century the so-called Modern Synthesis of Neo-Darwinism has become the dominant paradigm in modern biology. First, it is explained how and why Darwin’s broad definition of evolution, in which the environment plays an important role, was narrowed down by Neo-Darwinism to a radical gene-centric view. Next, the paradigm shift taking place today in ‘postgenomic’ evolutionary biology and genetics is discussed. It is argued that this shift opens the way to a more humane conception of evolution, more in line with Darwin’s view. Finally, I will discuss some of the implications of this paradigm shift for human self-reflection, taking The Music of Life. Biology Beyond Genes of systems biologist Denis Noble as a starting point.

Multilingualism is intrinsically linked with the European Union. Therefore, many European documents contain recommendations concerning its promotion, especially in the context of education. This paper describes the main axes of the European language policy. It also presents a suggested strategic model of developing plurilingual competence, which is one of the principal objectives of contemporary language teaching. The central point of the proposed model is the acquisition by pupils of the ability to make a conscious inter-language transfer, which requires them to create a set of strategies based on the resources of the language repertoire. This implies directing the didactic activities to the development of the ability to learn and emotional management that accompanies it, which requires the student to adopt a reflective attitude.
