In this paper we consider a system of work with a literary text, based on the effective methods of teaching speaking skills to foreign students. Taking into account the importance of literature in the training process of the foreign students-philologists at advanced level as well as its role in the individual development and improvement of communicative skills, we should use not only textbooks, but also adapted additional texts (with a block of tasks and exercises on communication), that belong to different styles of speech, typical for the literary works, and give an opportunity to solve not only the purely linguistic problems of teaching the Russian language on the curriculum, but also affect the intellect, stimulate creative thinking, influence feelings, arouse emotions, improve memory and thus facilitate language learning.

The popularity of games, both computer ones and those with a board, does not surprise anyone these days. They are played by both youngest children as well as adults. It may thus be worthwhile to introduce games into academic education as one of educational activities. For thanks to a game, one can better understand a given problem, actively participate in its resolution, but also study material from a given lesson unit. Whether educational games work out as tools in educating students and whether they can be recommended to learners at the primary level of education - it will turn out in the further part of the article. Our intention is to carry out an experiment in which we wish to compare two groups of students, one of which (the experimental group) is using games during their classes, whilst the other one (the control group) is not using such games and acquires material in the traditional form.

Nowadays, we witness changing trends in terms of the interest in language learning. In Poland, more and more higher education establishments, not only public, but also private, introduce various types of majors concerning oriental languages, such as Chinese translation programmes. The aim of this paper is to compare the Chinese learning process in China and in Poland. In the first part, a comparative outline of both types of learning processes will be introduced, on the base of author’s few years of experience gained while teaching and studying in both of those countries. Furthermore, the author will investigate the results of teaching Chinese in Poland, a place of very few Chinese native speakers, as compared to teaching Chinese in the mainland of China. In the end, the proposals on what to do to improve the Chinese learning system in non-Chinese speaking countries will be introduced.

The youth, being inextricably bound up with the newest technology in the reality outside the school, expects that the traditional teaching will as well pander to the certain updating. It challenges the contemporary foreign language policy, which ought to meet those expectations and make use of new teaching methods. The methods of teaching Polish language as the foreign one should take advantage of the digital information sources. It will not only enable learners to acquire knowledge more easily but also will make the whole teaching method more user-friendly. The significant majority of the learners use numerous mobile apps and online ebsites, such as Wikipedia, Facebook, You Tube, which were called by Paul Levinson “new new media”. The new new media allows its users to gain knowledge in an entertaining and easy manner, also motivates to learn Polish language. The learners who were demanding the possibility of controlling and creating information, now can eventually do so. Their daily activity in new new media, comments and discussions connected with the new information, beneficially influence their level of knowledge of Polish language.

The quality of education is increasingly being measured less by the knowledge gained during schooling and more by the level of competence possessed by students at doing a particular job after completing their education. Target and process-planned curricula are being replaced more and more by competenceoriented curricula, especially in science and technology education, where competences, generally defined as the ability of an individual to do a job properly, are placed at the forefront. In these, skills are not understood primarily as cognitive skills (e.g. critical thinking), but mostly as skills in connection to psychomo torics. If competence is the desired criterion for educational quality, it can be easily established that suitable instruments and methods of measurement are needed for this kind of quality evaluation, which, however, are not yet available. This is why in the field of competences a special unified competences taxonomy was developed, based on different taxonomies for the cognitive and also affective and psychomotor fields. Additionally, suitable instrumentation was developed in this study. Its use was demonstrated in the example of elementary education in Slovenia in the field of science and technology education.

Problem-Based Learning (PBL) represents a major development and change in educational practice that continues to have a large impact across subjects and disciplines worldwide. PBL is a successful teaching and learning strategy used to engage students in deep rather than surface learning and where the learning is student focused rather than teacher focused (Biggs,1999). The paper presents the comparison of PBL with traditional learning in the teaching of geography in high school. Comparative analysis of the results of the pedagogical experiment, which included three high schools, 14 classes with 339 students, is carried out. In the statistical analysis of data t-test was used to check the hypothesis on the differences of the arithmetic means. The results of the final test showed that there was a significant difference in the arithmetic means between the students who had taken a PBL course and the students who had taken a traditional course. It can be concluded that PBL has a positive impact on improving student achievement in the learning of geography in elementary and secondary schools.

Why you need a teacher in high school, just as the carrier and transmitter of information? But it is in this capacity he is much inferior to many other sources of information such as books and computers. Higher education institution serves not only and may be not so much for the transfer specialized knowledge but for the development and reproduction of specific cultural group, the most important element of which is itself a specialist. He is characterized as a representative of a particular culture not only a specific set of knowledge and skills, but also a certain worldview, life attitudes and values, especially the of professional conduct and others. So the teacher not only sends the student knowledge and professional skills, and attaches it to a specific culture, and that this culture was developed and reproduced needed live people, live human communication. This truth more than a hundred years ago formulated by K. D. Ushinsky: “Only a person can act on the development and definition of personality, only nature can be used to form the character” [Ушинский 1984: 78–83].

Student uniqueness demands that the teacher/catechist is inventive not only in the learning methods and teaching techniques employed but also in the way content is structured. Only in this way can the teacher ascertain that his/her students’ requirements are met and, consequently, student learning facilitated. However, teachers’ creativity should not mean haphazard choice of methods and techniques. Teaching is both an art and a science. The limitless nature of creativity should be used judiciously and made to bear fruit through the application of knowledge of educational psychology and instructional design. By using Adaptive Religious Education, the teacher may be guided to use different techniques in a methodical manner in order to ensure and enhance student learning. In particular, thesystematic use of different symbol systems can help teachers to improve student learning. The paper will put forward a number of principles and practical suggestions that may guide teachers in planning R.E. lessons.

It is one of the oldest and most effective methods of working with a student – a method which builds upon the growing relationship between the teacher and the student, often called the master‒student method or simply tutoring – and yet, it is still not common in Polish universities. One may say that from the view of the general public this method is considered elitist, because for various reasons it has been understood that only a small group of selected students can be taught this way, and only a few can use this method. Hence, in order to make certain how it is actually understood, a survey was prepared and presented to two groups of people: a group of students and graduates of the College of Interdisciplinary Studies, University of Wrocław, and a group of 125 employees of the University of Wrocław who worked as tutors in the past. It remains to be hoped that tutoring will be introduced into the education system in Poland not only in higher education – as has already begun to happen – but also on a larger scale in secondary and primary education. Regardless of how tutoring is actually perceived fortunately it is becoming an increasingly popular teaching method in Poland.

Nowadays using graphic display calculators (GDCs) is becoming more and more popular in learning and teaching mathematics. One of the main usages of this device is to obtain a graph of almost all functions with one variable. If we have a graph of a function we can observe some special properties of the function. Graphic display calculators (even without computer algebra system (CAS)) can do even more - calculate derivative at any point and draw graphs of derivatives of the first and the second degree, find other properties of functions like: minimum, maximum, x- and y-intercepts and so on. Traditionally students are taught differentiation while using limits of functions. Hence the natural question is whether there exists another method of teaching about differentiation? The aim of this paper is to analyze attempts of teaching some aspects of differentiation with using GDC.

Article focuses on the changing role of the teacher, which affects the nature of contemporary social change. The current form of education based on the schematic action and “safe” methods of teaching, does not meet the needs of the generation brought up in the world of new technologies. Requirements for modern teachers are associated with the creation of the student's education, so as to trigger the need for questioning and seeking answers, stimulate motivation, develop bold decisions and innovative actions and thinking.

This paper explores social responsibility training as part of university educational programmes. The authors compare French and Bulgarian students’ perceptions of various elements of social responsibility and how social responsibility is approached in universities’ curricula. Bulgarian students see social responsibility more often in terms of volunteer work, charitable activities and career opportunities, while French students associate it with environmental aspects. The only statistically significant gender difference in Bulgaria emerged in linking improving working conditions with social responsibility. French students placed stronger emphasis on business and the possible practical applications of social responsibility training offered by universities.

Nowadays access to information is virtually unlimited, but the problem becomes "information smog". This implies that a contemporary pupil, or student significant part of his time spends on the jumping from information to information, gathering them with different results, and often without analyzing. In many cases, the learner will never move from information level on knowledge level, completely not noticing the difference between these issues and without seeing the problem. In addition, there is a problem that digital natives are taught by digital immigrants which don’t understand the learners’ problems. Solutions of this problem can be sought in new teaching methods using new technologies. Among such methods, WebQuest is worth noting method. The paper describes this method along with its assumptions and guidelines for preparing and carrying out at technical education.

Creating entrepreneurial attitudes among students can also use for non-directional courses, and the condition of this is an appropriate method of teaching. A commonly known method of teaching the exercises, which includes: case studies, simulation game, brainstorming, or not liked by the students – polling, may be subject to modification. On their basis, we can create new and original teaching methods. The article will present its own method of conducting exercises with the course of design management systems, which is based on project method and has worked out for ten years. This method can also be used successfully in other courses.

The objective of this research was to find a more effective method for the teaching of history to Chinese students studying in South Korean universities. Questionnaire surveys and interviews were conducted to investigate those students’ level of knowledge and perceptions of Korean history. Then, in history classes, four teaching methods (comparative-historical, audiovisual, history and language, and rote memorization) were applied over two weeks. Before the treatment, Chinese students said that they liked the audiovisual teaching method the most, but after taking the classes, they preferred the teaching method comparing Korean and Chinese histories. Besides the finding that the comparative method was the most popular, the responses also showed that it was the most effective one in teaching history to Chinese students.

To derive a more effective educational method, racial differences among Chinese students in learning Korean culture was invesigated using a survey method. The Han and Joseon racial groups in China were examined. Before the survey, the Han race students (Chinese students except Joseon race students, in this case) preferred a language and culture teaching method (LCTM), whereas the Joseon race students favored an audiovisual teaching method (AVTM). However, after experiencing four different teaching methods – comparative-cultural teaching method (CCTM), AVTM, LCTM, and rote memorization teaching method—for two weeks, the Han race students preferred the AVTM more, whereas the Joseon race students preferred the CCTM. Thus, students from the same country require different education methods.

Research objective: The main goal of this article is to portray the challenges that early education and preschool teachers encounter when working with talented young learners in public preschools and kindergartens. Problem and research methods: The author investigates the complexities of working with talented young learners, utilizing quantitative methods such as standardized surveys and interviews with early education and preschool teachers. The process of argumentation: The introduction outlines the topic, followed by a brief description of the challenges in teaching talented learners. The research method is then discussed. Finally, the findings and recommendations for practice are presented. Research results: The findings indicate that early education and preschool teachers face some challenges in teaching talented learners, mostly connected with recognition, diagnosis, and individualized instruction. Many teachers feel unprepared, lack sufficient time, and receive little support from colleagues and administrators. They also seldom seek help from specialists. Conclusions, innovations, and recommendations: There is a need for comprehensive political regulation in Poland to enhance the individualization of education for talented young learners. Support for teachers through collaboration with headmasters, parents, and specialists is vital. Teamwork and assistance are essential to effectively meet the needs of these learners.

In addition, the paper is comparative in nature, drawing on the Hungarian-Romanian experience of tutor, writer, and glottodidactician Kazimiera Ilłakowiczówna’s life in emigration. What were, and what are, the teaching methods and problems faced by the multicultural, multinational society of Central Europe? The work aims to show a mosaic of examples from the life of a Polish school, from teaching methodology and didactics. It is supposed to make us aware of the problems faced by contemporary education, which are echoed from the past of the Polish community during the Second World War in the 20th century.

Environmental education is a long process, involving all areas of activity of the child (cognitive, emotional, practical), and its effect should be comprehensive knowledge of the nearest environment and skills in proper behavior and evaluation of consequences of their actions. Taking into account the cognitive development of curiosity and interest in the natural environment of students it is a good way to provide them with direct contact with various objects of the environment. Nature works very strongly in the realm of sensual and emotional, unforgettable experiences, diverse and deep experiences, enjoys, delights, give respite, starts the process of evaluation of various natural objects and nature as a whole. In the natural environment, pupils may compare, search, investigate, collect, organize, evaluate, measure, count, touch, smell, to be delighted and experiment. Under the influence of material incentives (things and phenomena), acting directly on the senses, psychological processes arise in the brain, such as impressions, insights and ideas. Cognitive curiosity and interest in natural environment of pupils cannot be left to the natural course of things. They develop only through ingenious and wellimplemented teaching and educational work, as a result of conscious choice of methods and forms of education based on pupil activity. In environmental education their implementation provide educational paths among which the most popular activities are ones in the field. Contacts with nature apart from the fact that they have the cognitive values and shape the sociomoral attitude also affect the development of aesthetic feelings. Thus, modern teaching and learning should become an essential guarantee of the full participation of pupils in an active receiving system, individual processing and personal usage of knowledge and information constantly generated by an infinite number of sources. It should be noted that field exercises is likeable and attractive form of pupils work. They involve pupils in the research process through independent thinking and action, they also have the opportunity to better know themselves and their classmates and teachers. Thus, the role and importance of educational paths in the current education system is fully justified and can even provide a guide to teaching and educational work.

A number of studies indicate that proper education for sustainable development both in formal and informal sphere has been neglected and the implementation of the sustainable development principles is definitely insufficient and ineffective. The presence of the sustainable development contents in the education system results mainly from the interdisciplinary training pathway „Environmental education” realised in recent years. It is focused mainly on the environment and nature issues while the social and economic issues are poorly addressed if at all. A realistic implementation the sustainable development principles into practice can take place only through intensive training and information efforts in the sector of formal and informal education. The effectiveness of these efforts will be high on condition that they are subject to careful planning at each stage of their realisation.

Scientific methods that are part of knowledge – it is whole arsenal of accumulated research methods and stage of scientific activity (techniques, methods) used in the process of scientific activity in this particular cycle. In particular, problems and hypotheses is scientific knowledge also, but they are more significant than stages of scientific activity. Scientific activity – intellectual creative activity aimed at obtaining and use of new knowledge. It comprises the steps of obtaining scientific production: 1) formulation (appearance) of the problem; 2) construction of hypotheses and using those that already exist; 3) creation and implementation of new methods of research aimed at proving the hypotheses; 4) summary the results of scientific activity. It is necessary to mean that the main product that meets the objectives and problems which are resolved, science gets only at the end of the cycle in the form of laws and theories. In the intermediate stages the science gets a by-product a part of which is used in the same cycle, and part goes to replenish the knowledge and the formation of new cycles. Scientific activity exists in various forms, such as: scientific and research activity; scientific and organizational activity; scientific and educational activity; scientific and information activity; scientific and support activity, etc.

Sustainable development in education is the basis of sustainable development of society. To ensure sustainable development in education, its principles need to be implemented in all training courses. Higher pedagogical education should provide training in designing and teaching such courses. At our universities, future primary school teachers are trained to keep their maths lessons in line with the principles of sustainable development in three key areas. The first area relates to the development of pupils’ social involvement through their acquisition of intellectual and practical skills of using maths. The second area concerns pupils’ relationship with their natural and cultural environment. Future teachers are trained to design tasks that stimulate pupils’ emotional engagement and caring attitude. The third area that future teachers are trained to target is pupils’ economic and financial competence. Teaching skills in all these areas can be developed effectively through the case method.

Development in technology, changing labour market and the need for lifelong learning necessitate the evolution in the education of children and youth. Blended learning is about combining the online learning and traditional methods in order to personalize the learning process. The intensive application of this teaching method in the United States seems to make the American students more engaged in solving the tasks assigned to them. It is believed that it has a positive impact on their final exam results. The article describes the basic principles of blended learning from the perspective of the theory of hybrid. It also includes some personal experience of working with this method.

A few years ago Centre of Development Studies at my Faculty, Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences, started an online Master’s Programme in Development Management. The programme was implemented by a network of universities from the North (University of Agder/UiA) and the South (Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Uganda, Ghana) recruiting students from across the world. The evaluation is very positive characterising it as a big success. I will now look into one particular element of this study, teaching the qualitative methodology (QM) courses with a special focus on the South context. Each course QM included has been sectioned into modules based on a variety of students` activities including student-student and student-tutor/teacher interaction, plus a number of hand-ins across topics and formats. Evaluation of the students` performance is based on both online group activity and written material submitted either into the individual or the group portfolio. My focus is twofold. First, how did we teach qualitative methodology and how did that work? Second, what about the contemporary focus on neo-colonial methodology and our QM courses? In a wider perspective the study is part of foreign aid where higher education is a means to transfer competence to the South. As such this study works to enable and to empower people rather than being trapped in the old accusation of sustaining dependency (Asad 1973, Ryen 2000 and 2007a). This study then is embedded in a wider North-South debate and a highly relevant illustration of the potentials, success and hazards, inherit in teaching QM.

Tutoring as a teaching method is associated with the most prestigious European universities. More and more Polish universities decide to implement tutoring recognizing it as a way to create the image of an institution whose objective is to treat students subjectively and care about the quality of education. It is also a great method of improving talents and developing students’ and teachers’ academic potential. On one hand it is a method representing the elite personalized education; however, on the other hand, by means of providing the appropriate organizational conditions, it would also supplement the current educational process, which is typical for the mass education. The article presents the specific nature of the academic tutoring in terms of benefits that it would bring to the university, teachers and students. On the basis of the qualitative data collected during interviews with 15 participating in the program students from four Polish higher educational institutions, the program specificity and elements that, in students’ opinion, influence the program effectiveness were presented. The elements are as follows: relational nature of tutoring, tutor’s personality and classes in the form of individual meetings. Quoted comments indicate the effectiveness of this method, both in the context of students’ ability to be familiarized with the appropriate knowledge but also in the context of developing students’ communicative competence, ability to learn as well as increasing their motivation for learning. For teachers, tutoring is an opportunity to develop their didactic competence, to get rid of the academic routine, a chance to teach on the basis of constructing a good relationship with a student. For the university, tutoring is an opportunity to improve the quality of education and to implement methods of personalized education, which is associated with elite education and the best foreign universities.

Opis:
An important place in the work of a teacher of a high er education institution (hereinafter - H El) is the introduction of innovative teaching methods in the educational process. Such activities strengthen the student's interest in mastering his knowledge, which is currently important in determining the quality of education in Ukraine and the Republic of Poland. The article analyzes the terminology of this study in two countries. Showing distinction in matters of „innovation education" and „innovation in education." The terminology „readiness for innovative pedagogical activity" and the level of formation of the teacher's attitude to search activity are clearly defined. Popular innovative teaching methods are described in the study: contextual learning, simulation learning, problem-based learning, modular full acquisition of knowledge and distance learning. An important skill of the teacher is to create a climate for teaching students using web technologies and teaching students using the roles of expert, coach, facilitator and moderator. The idea is introduced that only in a morally „pure" climate of the educational environment it is possible to practice and produce innovations by a teacher. lt is important to apply innovations in the education of students who fol low the tradition of „lifelong learning". The rating of the most popular teaching methods, which are determined by the students themselves, is given.
