The gap waveguide technology is a new technique used for designing and fabricating microwave components, ensuring a low-loss and easy fabrication process, especially at high frequencies, and allowing for the production of multilayer structures due to the lack of requirement of an electrical connection between the metal layers of the waveguide structure. This paper presents the design and areas of implementation of single-hole and multi-hole 20 dB Bethe couplers, using the groove gap waveguide (GGW) technology for Ku band. Simulation results show that the operating bandwidth of the proposed design is over 40% wider, and its isolation rate is more than 25 dB higher. By using the multi hole configuration, a bandwidth that is more than 59% wider and the isolation rate of over 30 dB may be obtained.

The task of this paper is identification of stresses in a homogeneous isotropic disc weakened with an eccentric circular hole which is loaded by pressure in the internal contour of the hole. By application of a complex variable method, the mathematical model that allows complete analytical solution of stresses of the disc is formed. The methodology can be applied for the solution of any disc weakened with an eccentric circular hole. The comparative analysis has shown a high accuracy of analytically obtained results with FEM results obtained by calculations in ANSYS 12 software package. The application of the results of this paper is of great importance for quality design and optimization of thin-walled structures of disc type weakened by a circular hole.
Zadaniem podjętym w artykule jest identyfikacja stanu naprężeń w jednorodnym, izotropowym dysku osłabionymmimośrodowo umiejscowionymwycięciem kołowym, obciążonym wzdłuż brzegu wewnętrznym naciskiem. Stosując metodę zmiennej zespolonej, w pracy sformułowano matematyczny model układu, który pozwolił na uzyskanie w pełni analitycznego opisu rozkładu naprężeń w dysku. Zastosowana metodologia, zdaniem autorów, może być użyta dla dowolnego dysku z mimośrodowym otworem o kształcie koła. W pracy przeprowadzono ponadto analizę porównawczą z wynikami uzyskanymi numerycznie za pomocą metody elementów skończonych z wykorzystaniem pakietu ANSYS 12. Otrzymane rezultaty badań mogą mieć duże znaczenie praktyczne z punktu widzenia jakości projektowania i optymalizacji cienkościennych konstrukcji zawierających elementy strukturalne z kołowym wycięciem.

Opis:
A novel mid-infrared polarization beam splitter (PBS) based on GaS is proposed. The high birefringence is achieved by using the cladding structure of alternating arrangement of square and circular air holes as well as introducing double elliptical air holes. The finite element method (FEM) is utilized to investigate the mode coupling characteristics in the proposed PBS. The results show that the highest extinction ratio of 115 dB and shortest length of only 40 μm can be realized at a wavelength of 4 μm. A wide bandwidth of 200 nm ranging from 3.9 to 4.1 μm is obtained.

This paper addresses the issue of drillbits for drilling normal and large diameter boreholes with the use of percussion-rotary method. The most important elements of drillbits, i.e. sintered carbide inserts of different shapes have been described. The cluster hammers, used for drilling large diameter DTH, have been also presented.

Large-diameter and through-hole type microcapsule with entrapped trioctylamine (TOA) as an extractant were prepared by (W/O/W) emulsification and in-situ polymerization method. The morphologies of the microcapsules, their encapsulation efficiencies for TOA, and their forward and back extraction properties for palladium(II) were investigated. The microcapsules ranged in size from 210-420 ěm. The encapsulation efficiency of TOA was approximately 100% for all the microcapsules, which indicates minimal loss of TOA during preparation of the microcapsules. Through-hole type microcapsules were obtained when inner aqueous phase contained a high concentration of sodium chloride, and at a moderate agitation speed in the first emulsification. With the through-hole type microcapsules the extraction equilibrium approached one, and the extraction rate was very high compared to other preparation conditions and (O/W) type microcapsules.

The instantaneous primary emission spectra of particles radiating from Schwarzschild black holes and maximally rotating Kerr black holes of masses 1013 – 1015 g were investigated and C code, BlackHawk was used for the simulations. From a Schwarzschild black hole of mass 3.53×1013 g, gluons had the lowest cutoff energy, 199 MeV. The emission spectra were dominated by coloured particles, quarks having with the highest overall emission rate, 2.826×1022 GeV-1s-1 at energy 1.205 GeV. The leptons e±, μ±, τ± showed similar variation in emission rates. The only particles emitted with energies below the rest mass of u quarks were neutrinos, photons, and e±. At greater particle energies (> ~ 2 GeV) the emission rates of all particles were almost equivalent. The emission of vector bosons, Z0 and W± were negligible and became significant when the mass reduced to ~1011 g and then gluons, W±, Z0 and photons were emitted similar to each other with a peak at energy, 280 GeV. The emitting rates of gluons, quarks, neutrinos, W±, e±, μ±, τ±, Z0, photons, and Higgs bosons are in decreasing order respectively. As the mass of the black hole is reduced to 1.06×108 g, quarks were emitted at the highest rate 2.826×1022 GeV-1s-1 at 4010 GeV peak energy and at energies between rest mass energy of Higgs boson and 1.25×105 GeV, the emission of Higgs bosons exceeded the emission of quarks. For maximally rotating Kerr black hole of mass 3.53×1013 g, W±, Z0 and Higgs boson were emitted at higher emission rates 1012 – 1015 GeV-1s-1 and for mass 1.06×108 g, the gluons had the highest overall emission rate at the peak energy. At extremely high energies, the gluon emission rates are less than the emission rates of Higgs bosons, quarks, neutrinos, and e±, μ±, τ±. The spin-dependent behaviour of spectra is also present.

Mobile Ad-hoc Networks (MANETs) are widely used nowadays. Because of their characteristics as open media, dynamic topology, being infrastructure-less and lack of centralized monitoring, MANET is vulnerable to a wide range of attacks like blackhole and grayhole. Blackhole and grayhole attacks refer to the attacks that breach the security by performing packet forwarding and routing misbehavior and cause denial of service in MANETs. In this paper we improved our previous work on MCBDS, we reduced false-positive rate more than before and on average it dropped to zero. The proposed method employs Network Simulator-2 (NS-2) to validate the effectiveness under different scenarios. Simulation results show that improved MCBDS has same performance as CBDS in terms of throughput and end-to-end delay and as much as the presence of malicious nodes increased, improved MCBDS performs better than CBDS.

This paper presents structural solutions for guiding a single-sharp barrel drill blade during deep hole drilling, and it analyzes the structural and technological problems associated with two modes of inserting the drill into the processed material in the first stage of drilling – with the use of a pilot hole or a guide sleeve. The kinematics of the object-tool system (P-N) and other technological parameters affecting the execution of pilot holes under strictly defined conditions were analyzed during deep drilling with barrel drills in the FNE 40NC AVIA vertical numerical milling machine. Performance tests involving two types of cooling-lubricating agents, Milpro HG12 oil with and without the addition of ultra-dispersive copper particles and copper oxides (0.05 ÷ 0.6 µm) and Panther GP-1 additive (PWPH PantherOil Poland), applied in a 1:100 ratio, were described. The wear of the barrel drill blade along the entire drilling path (Lw = 8,000 mm) for 112 holes, and the geometric wear coefficient Kw of the drill bit were determined in 1.0503 steel with the use of EB80 drills made of K15 cemented carbide (WC 94%, Co 6%) with a diameter Dc = 8 mm. The results of wear tests were compared with the results of tribological tests involving cooling lubricants and 1.0503 steel with the chemical composition of K15 tungsten carbide. The abrasive wear of friction pair and the performance of the barrel drill blade during deep hole drilling were analyzed under identical conditions.

As a result of a buried water pipe unsealing, water often flows from the pipe to the soil surface, washing out the solid particles of soil and creating the so-called suffosion holes. It is a dangerous phenomenon, especially in urbanized areas, where it poses a threat to human safety and the stability of infrastructure. Uncontrolled outflows of water from water pipes belong to the main causes of suffosion in cities, occur in all water networks around the world and are difficult to predict. Therefore, it seems to be important to determine the size of the so-called the protection zone, which is the area around the potential leak where, in the event of a water pipe failure, it would be possible for water to flow in the soil. The analysis of the suffosion holes distribution around the place of leakage may be helpful in determining the size of the protection zone. Previous studies have shown that this distribution is random. Thus, the structure consisting of suffusion holes creates a certain geometric shape, which is difficult to describe using the classical concepts of Euclidean geometry. The study showed that this structure meets the conditions for probabilistic fractals, which means that elements of fractal geometry can be used to determine the size of the protection zone.

One of the latest topics in construction concerns the difficulty of producing faultless drill holes in parts made of composite and sandwich materials. At the Institute for Machine Tools of the University of Stuttgart, a prototype of an adaptronic drilling spindle for a machining of components made of homogeneous and inhomogeneous materials was developed within the framework of a research project, funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy. The spindle made it possible to limit the axial force and the torque acting on the tool, thus protecting the tools and the workpieces from any possible damage. The tests carried out with the spindle prototype proved that the axial feed force acting from the spindle can be reliably controlled by means of the developed spindle. It might be possible to restrict critical machining situations arising due to the removal of drill chips or the reduction of process temperatures.

The paper deals with the investigations of influence parameters of electrodischarge machining (EDM) on the shape accuracy of holes machined by EDM process. BP-95. machine with electronic generator type was used to perform EDM process. Kerosene was used as a dielectric. During EDM process the parameters of current were permanent. The shape of electrode and way of passing dielectric were changed. The following parameters were determined: productivity of EDM process and shape accuracy of the drilling holes. The accuracy of bored cylindrical holes, is highest in case of hollowing out with the tubular electrode and for sucking out working liquid by her inner life. In the case of hollowing out with the electrode tubular, sinking the tube with pumping liquid by the inner life is the most favourable method causing the smallest mistakes of outlines of the cylindrically shape. The time of boring the arterial hole is shortest in case of hollowing out with the electrode tubular and for pumping working liquid by inside.

The use of modern systems for initiating explosives charges should be associated with a conscious choice of millisecond delay. This is especially important when firing multi-row blasting patterns. The electronic initiation system offers great opportunities for the design and selection of millisecond delays. However, given the high precision of setting delays, its use must be well thought out. Research on the effect of millisecond delay on the frequency structure of vibrations has shown that the seismic effect significantly depends on the geological conditions, both of the deposit and the environment. It was shown that these conditions are best characterized by the analysis of vibrations induced by single explosives charges and this was the basis for the development and implementation of the signature hole (SH) method. The effectiveness of the method contributed to its application in computer programs supporting the design of blasting works. The article presents the procedure of preparing a database for the Paradigm software, based on the results of vibration analyzes recorded during the firing of single charges of explosives, taking into account the conditions related to the assessment of the impact of vibrations on buildings. The result of the program calculations is a proposal reaching even over a thousand or more combinations of delays between explosives loads and between rows of holes. Choosing the optimal solution is the most important moment in the designer’s work. It should also be remembered that the project summary should be the verification of the selected variant by measuring the vibrations and comparing the predicted effect with the real one.
Stosowanie nowoczesnych systemów inicjowania ładunków materiałów wybuchowych (MW) powinno wiązać się ze świadomym wyborem opóźnienia milisekundowego. Jest to szczególnie istotne przy odpalaniu wieloszeregowych siatek strzałowych. Elektroniczny system inicjowania stwarza ogromne możliwości w zakresie projektowania i doboru opóźnień milisekundowych. Jednak biorąc pod uwagę wysoką precyzję zadawania opóźnień, jego użycie musi być dobrze przemyślane. Badania prowadzone nad wpływem opóźnienia milisekundowego na strukturę częstotliwościową drgań wykazały, że efekt sejsmiczny w istotny sposób zależy od warunków geologicznych, zarówno złoża jak i otoczenia. Wskazano, że najlepiej warunki te są charakteryzowane przez analizę drgań wzbudzanych od pojedynczych ładunków MW i to było podstawą do opracowania i wdrożenia metody signature hole (SH). Efektywność metody przyczyniła się do jej aplikacji w programach komputerowych wspomagających projektowanie robót strzałowych. W artykule przedstawiono procedurę przygotowania bazy danych dla programu Paradigm, w oparciu o wyniki analiz drgań rejestrowanych w czasie odpalania pojedynczych ładunków MW z uwzględnieniem uwarunkowań związanych z oceną oddziaływania drgań na budynki. Efektem obliczeń programu jest propozycja sięgająca nawet ponad tysiąca i więcej kombinacji opóźnień między ładunkami MW i między szeregami otworów. Wybór optymalnego rozwiązania jest najważniejszym momentem pracy projektującego. Należy również pamiętać, że podsumowaniem projektu powinna być weryfikacja wybranego wariantu przez pomiar drgań i porównanie efektu prognozowanego z rzeczywistym.

Considering the analogy between classical thermodynamic parameters and black hole parameters, the four laws of thermodynamics are reinterpreted for Kerr and Kerr-Newman black holes. A simple model for the dynamic relationships was obtained by considering the surface area of the outer horizon of a Kerr and Kerr-Neumann black hole as the area of a perfect black body. Finding the conditions these black holes should satisfy, the equations were numerically solved and simulated for the Hawking temperature, Hawking radiation and entropy variations of Kerr and Kerr-Newman black holes. The Hawking temperature and Hawking radiation of a given rotating black hole drastically increases at the final stage of the black hole evaporation. In the meantime, the entropy of a rotating black hole drastically decreases through the time. The additional angular momentum and the charge effects gain high Hawking temperatures and high Hawking radiation values for the black holes while these effects reduce the entropy of the black holes.

The Brazilian split test on a centrally holed disc (referred to as a ring-disc specimen) is an important indirect method for determining the tensile strength of rock. This paper studies the effect of the diameter d of the center hole and its position, defined by the eccentricity b and the inclination angle of the eccentric hole, on the peak load, failure pattern and horizontal stress of the disc specimen via laboratory experiments and numerical modeling using the finite element method (FEM). Static Brazilian split tests are conducted on an intact disc and three types of holed discs: C-specimens containing a central hole with different diameters, EH-specimens with a horizontally eccentric hole and ER-specimens with a rotationally eccentric hole.

Fatigue behaviour is one of the most important properties of modern airplanes and rivets influence it strongly. According to the literature, the NACA riveting offers a multiple increase in the fatigue life of joints. The aim of this paper is to investigate the benefits offered by the NACA riveting procedure with respect to the residual stress and strain distribution after riveting as well as rivet hole expansion. Experimental and numerical approaches were adopted. The conventional riveting with both the universal and countersunk rivets was compared with the NACA riveting. The countersunk angle and depth in the case of the NACA riveting was modified somewhat relative to the values met in the literature. For these three cases, strain gauge measurements during riveting, hole expansion measurements and FE calculations were performed. The hole expansion measurement with the use of Computer Tomography(CT) was proposed. Only the FE calculations unambiguously indicate better fatigue properties of the NACA riveting. The proposed method of hole expansion measurement requires further research to increase its accuracy.

Weight functions of the stress intensity factors K1 and K2 for a single radial crack emanating from a circular hole are derived using the boundary element method (BEM) together with the Bueckner type singular complex stress function Z(z) applied in the vicinity of the crack tip. Both weight functions, corresponding to the loading modes I and II respectively, are valid for any ratio of the crack length a to hole radius R. They are represented in the unified form convenient for creating the weight function database. The accuracy of present solutions has appeared to be much better than 99% verified by comparing the values of K1 and K2 solutions found in the literature.
Analizowano płaskie zagadnienie pojedynczej szczeliny wychodzącej promieniowo z okrągłego otworu w materiale podlegajcym prawu Hooke'a. Wyznaczono funkcje wagowe dla współczynników K1 i K2 stosując metodę elementu brzegowego MEB w połączeniu z zespoloną funkcją naprężeń Z(z) zadaną w sąsiedztwie wierzchołka szczeliny. Otrzymane rozwiązania przedstawiono w postaci funkcji korekcyjnych i jednostkowych funkcji wagowych o zunifikowanym zapisie, pozwalającym zastosować je do wspomaganych komputerowo symulacji rozwoju pęknięć kruchych, zmęczeniowych i korozyjnych, przy dowolnym rozkładzie obciążenia uwalnianego na powierzchni szczeliny. Maksymalny błąd obliczonych tą metodą współczynników K1 i K2 nie przekraczał jednego procenta.

The paper contains discussion of the deep holes drilling process monitoring systems used in practical applications and monitoring methods described in literature. Moreover a proposal of deep drilling monitoring system has been presented which aim is control of machining process basing on physical phenomena information on appearing in a cutting zone. The system will be realized in machine tool for deep drilling to be designed.

W pracy przedstawiono rozwiązanie zagadnienia rozciąganej płaszczyzny osłabionej otworem o ksztacie owalnym z wierzchołkami o dowolnej krzywiźnie. Wykorzystano metodę jednolitego podejścia do rozwiązywania zagadnień koncentracji naprężeń wokół karbów ostrych i zaokrąglonych. Dla parametrów, charakteryzujących geometrię otworu, zmieniających się w bardzo szerokim zakresie obliczono współczynniki koncentracji naprężeń w wierzchołku owalu. Wykorzystując zależność wiążące współczynniki koncentracji naprężeń ze współczynnikami intensywności naprężeń, wyznaczono wartości współczynnikow intensywności dla odpowiedniego otworu o wierzchołkach ostrych. Przeprowadzając porównanie wyników obliczeń ze znanym rozwiązaniem analitycznym dla otworu soczewkowego, wykazano nie tylko dużą precyzję zastosowanej metody lecz również jej uniwersalność i efektywność. Otrzymane rezultaty posłużyły do skonstruowania przydatnych w praktyce inżynierskiej wzorów aproksymacyjnych służących do oszacowania wartości współczynnikow intensywności naprężeń w wierzchołku soczewki oraz koncentracji naprężeń w wierzchołku otworu owalnego.
In the paper the application of the unified approach method to solve problems of stress concentration around sharp and rounded oval hole in elastic plane was presented. The stress field distribution was obtained for various vertex angles and curvature radii using singular integral equation method. The method based on passage to the limit (when curvature radius tends to zero), was used to obtain stress intensity factor at the vertex of sharp lens hole in a plane under tension. Accuracy of the new method was analyzed by comparing numerical results of stress intensity factors to well known analytical solution. The approximation formulas for estimation of stress intensity and concentration factors were presented.

Zaprojektowano i wykonano oprzyrządowanie , które współpracując z maszyną wytrzymałościową Zwick Z250 umożliwia wyznaczenie wskaźnika HE na zmodyfikowanych próbkach taśm stalowych. Pomiary wskaźnika HE przeprowadzone na taśmach ze stali DP potwierdziły przydatność opracowanego testu badawczego.
This article presents the proposal for modification of the Hole Expansion test so that HE index measurements are possible on steel strips of 50mm in width after heat treatment with Gleeble 3800 simulator. The tooling which can operate with Zwick Z250 testing machine to allow the determination of HE index on modified steel strip test pieces was designed and made. The HE index measurements taken on DP steel strips have confirmed the suitability of the developed research test.

The major effects of cylindrical and row trenched cooling holes with angles of alpha=30, beta=0, alpha=40, beta=0 and alpha=50, beta=0 at BR=3.18 on the effectiveness of film cooling near the combustor end wall surface is an important subject to study in detail. In the current study, researchers used a FLUENT package 16/11 to simulate a 3-D model of a Pratt and Whitney gas turbine engine. In this research, RNG turbulence model K-ε model was used to analyze the flow behavior on the passage ways of internal cooling. In the combustor simulator, the dilution jets and cooling flow staggered in the streamwise direction and aligned in the spanwise direction as well. In comparison with the baseline case of cooling holes, the application of trenched hole near the end wall surface increased the effectiveness of film cooling up to 100% for different trench cases.

Geochemical and plant macrofossil analyses of the Żabieniec mire deposits and the palaeoenvironmental changes they record of the past several thousand years constitute an important source for palaeogeographical reconstruction of the Polish Lowland. We describe the phases of the basin’s development from the final part of the Plenivistulian (MIS2), through the Late Glacial and the entire Holocene, encompassing changes determined by both regional and global factors in the surrounding environment, and habitat transformations in the limnogenic mire. The kettle-hole infill of the Żabieniec mire is the only documented example in Central Poland of a succession of biogenic deposits exceeding 10 m in thickness in such a setting. Deposition initially took place in a lake environment, which led to a shallowing of the lake that persisted until the end of the Mesoholocene.

Aim of this study is the compare of the compressor cooling system cooperating with the bore hole and ground to system, where the environment is the heat receiver and to indicate – how profitable could be using a ground as heat sink. Presented a sample analysis concerns the alternative possibility of using the geothermal boreholes as a cooling source.

During regular use of the steering wheel mounted on a boat, two cracks emanating from a fastener hole were noticed which, consequently, caused final fracture of the wheel. To determine the behavior of a boat steering wheel with cracks present, assessment of a fractured wheel was performed. Torque moments of the fasteners were measured prior to removing the steering wheel from the boat. Visual and dye penetrant inspection followed along with the material detection. Besides using experimental procedures, assessment of the fractured wheel was performed using finite element analysis, i.e. stress intensity factor values were numerically determined. Variation of stress intensity factor with crack length is presented. Possible causes of crack occurrence are given and they include excessive values of fastener torque moments coupled with fretting between fastener and fastener hole that was poorly machined. Results obtained by this assessment can be taken for predicting fracture behavior of a cracked steering wheel and as a reference in the design, mounting and exploitation process of steering wheels improving that way their safety in transportation environment.

This paper proposes the novel technique for analysis of dynamic stress state of multi-connected infinite plates under the action of oscillating forces. Calculation of dynamic stresses at the incisions of plates is held using the boundary-integral equation method and the theory of complex variable functions. The numerical implementation of the developed algorithmis based on the method of mechanical quadratures and collocation technique. The algorithm is effective in the analysis of the stress state caused by steady-state vibrations of plates.

The stress concentration observed in the vicinity of cut-outs and holes in structural elements significantly influences the fatigue endurance of machines subjected to cyclic loads. Numerous studies have been made so far to improve this situation and increase the structure lifetime. Several design recommendations have also been worked out to avoid the problem of premature failure. The proposed article illustrates the influence of the composite overlays applied around the cut-outs made in flat steel constructional elements subjected to axial tension. The detailed study concerns the reinforcement made from the FRP (fibre reinforcement polymer) composite applied around the notches. Two types of composite materials were used, namely: TVR 380 M12/R-glass (glass fibres embedded in epoxy resin matrix) and AS4D/9310 (carbon fibres embedded in epoxy resin matrix). In the first step, the detailed numerical studies (finite element analysis) were performed for the steel samples (with no overlays added) with cut-outs made in the form of circle, square and triangle hole (the last two with rounded corners). The results of these studies were compared with the existing analytical solutions with respect to the stress concentration factors (SCF) estimation. The relatively good conformity was observed when using dense meshes of finite elements placed around the void vicinity. In the next step, the composite overlays were applied around cut-outs and their influence on the stress concentration was investigated. The influence of the fibre orientation, numbers of layers, sizes of the composite overlay used were considered. It was proved that the application of composite overlays evidently decreases the stress concentration around the notches.

A black-hole is an astronomical entity which possesses infinite density at its gravitational singularity or singular point. The capacity of a black-hole to completely rip-off an entire solar system without leaving any evidence is to be noted. A debate has been going on over the past few decades regarding the information storage in black-holes. The discovery of Hawking radiation, which predicts complete evaporation of mass violates unitarity ie. Conservation of probability and energy fails. Recent discoveries suggest that regular remnant of black-hole survives evaporation , as a result information of the object devoured can be contained. These remnants are grouped into embedded sub-manifolds. These manifolds are the result of a five-dimensional constant curvature bulk in space-time. Five-dimensional gravity can be recovered from brane-world resulting from equations of bulk geometry. Gravity can be explained by space-time theory and also quantum theory in the form of Gravitons. On observing the manifold, the gravitons show deformations in dimensions, rather than being constant. The perturbations in geometry can be related to embedding functions which should remain differentiable and regular. Regularity is related to the inverse functions theorem. Manifold observations followed by a mathematical approach can possibly retain information about objects devoured by the black-hole.

Autorzy w artykule przedstawiają wybrane metody oceny stanu wykonania elementów odlewniczych. Głównym celem analizy było wybranie metody określenia jakości wykonania otworów w elementach odlewniczych, tj. ich położenia, odchyłki od zarysu okrągłości oraz tolerancji wykonania powierzchni płaskich.
The main advantage of image processing methods for diagnostic and measurement applications is their speed, accuracy and relatively low price. The authors of the paper describe the method and algorithms used to assess the workmanship of casting components. The main task was to determine the quality of holes in the components, their location and deviation from the roundness profile as well as the tolerances of fabrication of flat surfaces. Currently, the most common method of assessing the condition of this type of castings is the use of appropriate templets. This method is inexpensive, but relatively slow. The method proposed in the paper is fast and accurate. A more accurate measurement can be obtained using the coordinate measuring machine (CMM), however, the cost of the assessment is disproportionate to its objective. An important aspect of the methods discussed is the use of suitable equipment for diagnostic purposes. The solution proposed by the authors used to evaluate the arrangement and shape of holes can be a fast and accurate tool for the evaluation of the workmanship of casting components. The proposed methods allow obtaining good results. They differ in the ways of obtaining images and image processing algorithms used. Both methods give results on the level of accuracy of several μm, which is sufficient for measurement purposes.

Many authors discussed the problem of an elastic infinite plate with a curvilinear hole, some of them considered this problem in z-plane and the others in the s-plane. They obtained an exact expression for Goursat's functions for the first and second fundamental problem. In this paper, we use the Cauchy integral method to obtain a solution to the first and second fundamental problem by using a new transformation. Some applications are investigated and also some special cases are discussed.

The goal of the paper is to present the problem of time, which emerges in the context of the discussion about the ontological status of spacetime. The problem is a consequence of the progress of the participants of the discussion due to the application of the hole argument to the dispute. I present the shortened history of the hole argument, characterize the participants of the mentioned dispute, their development, I give a formulation of the timeless ontology and the attempts to negate it by the new spacetime substantivalists. I present and discuss a thesis suggesting that those attempts are futile.

The presence of geometric discontinuity in a material reduces considerably its resistance to mechanical stresses, therefore reducing the service life of materials. The analysis of structural behaviour in the presence of geometric discontinuities is important to ensure the proper use, especially if it is regarding a material of weak mechanical properties such as a polymer. The objective of the present work is to analyse the effect of the notch presence of variable geometric shapes on the tensile strength of epoxy-type polymer specimens. A series of tensile tests were carried out on standardised specimens, taking into account the presence or absence of a notch. Each series of tests contains five specimens. Two notch shapes were considered: circular (hole) and elliptical. The experimental results in terms of stress–strain clearly show that the presence of notches reduces considerably the resistance of the material, where the maximum stress for the undamaged specimen was 41.22 MPa and the lowest stress for the elliptical-notched specimen was 11.21 MPa. A numerical analysis by the extended finite element method (XFEM) was undertaken on the same geometric models; in addition, the results in stress–strain form were validated with the experimental results. A remarkable improvement was obtained (generally an error within 0.06%) for strain, maximum stress, Young’s modulus and elongation values. An exponential decrease was noted in the stress, strain, and Young’s modulus in the presence of a notch in the material.

Artykuł dotyczy nowego sposobu obliczenia optymalnej średnicy otworu strzałowego. Sposób ten uwzględnia właściwości wytrzymałościowe i akustyczne urabianej skały oraz energię zastosowanego MW. Przedstawiono stan obecny doboru średnicy otworów strzałowych. Na podstawie przykładów, które odzwierciadlają rzeczywiste warunki wytrzymałościowe i akustyczne urabianej w złożu bazaltu i dolomitu skały przeprowadzono obliczenia. Obliczenia te wykazały, że błąd względny określenia stosowanej średnicy w stosunku do optymalnej wynosi od -2% do+6,6%. Tak duża dokładność określenia średnicy optymalnej potwierdza prawidłowość zastosowanej zależności, która może być stosowana w praktyce.
The article deals with a new method of calculating the optimum diameter of a blast hole. This method takes into account the strength and acoustic properties of the rock being excavated and the energy of the BM used. The current status of the selection of blasthole diameters is presented. Calculations were carried out using examples that reflect the actual strength and acoustic conditions of the rock being excavated in basalt and dolomite deposits. These calculations showed that the relative error in the determination of the diameter used in relation to the optimum diameter ranges from -2% to+6.6%. This high accuracy in determining the optimum diameter confirms the validity of the relationship used, which can be applied in practice.

Losses of drilling mud and other fluids is the one of the major types of drilling troubles. Annual time losses for their elimination by oil and gas companies are huge. The factors, influencing the mud losses and regulating the direction of the further works, can be divided into two groups: geological and technological. Conducted studies on the use of an insulating composition based on chromium acetate made it possible to identify: the use of the insulation composition on the chrome acetate base allows considerable reduction of time required to eliminate disastrous circulation loss without installation of cement plugs; avoiding BHA replacement; avoiding drilling-in after bullheading and overlapping of lost-circulation layer; low cost, possibility of fast preparation, as it does not entail the delivery of additional chemicals, which also contributes to reduction of time required to eliminate disastrous circulation loss; the use with every type of drilling mud. Basing on the positive experience of the use of this composition in the neighboring regions and considering its economic side, the technique can be used in regions of the Udmurt Republic.

The aim of this study is to investigate the influence of spin degrees of freedom on the flux quantization in a 2D Josephson junction. One of the most important properties of the Josephson structures is the total quantum flux which can be related to the phase difference across the junction. For example the sign of the phase difference controls the direction of the Josephson current while the magnitude of the phase difference affect the critical current itself. So far in literature to calculate the total quantum flux in the Josephson structures only the flux of the external magnetic field (and hence the external vector potential) has been considered but the intrinsic quantum flux of correlated electrons and holes have not been taken into account. We have recently calculated the intrinsic quantized magnetic flux of electrons and holes. We showed that depending on the spin orientations, the spin contribution to the quantized intrinsic flux of a correlated electron is equal to (Φ_{int}=±(g*Φ_{0})/2). Here g* is the effective Landé g-factor and Φ_{0} is the unit of flux (fluxoid). In the present study we calculate the above mentioned phase differences across the junction considering the intrinsic quantum flux of electrons and holes. For electrons the additional flux contribution will be: ΔΦ_{int}=±(g_{e}*Φ_{0})/2 and for holes, the related contribution will be: ΔΦ_{int}=±(g_{h}*Φ_{0})/2. We show that, for both charge carriers, the effective Landé g-factors (g_{e}*,g_{h}*), take only even integer values such as (0,2,4,...). The present calculations can be easily extended to the intrinsic Josephson junctions as well. We found that flux contribution to the total flux due to spin is very important and it is in fact ±Φ_{0}/2 depending on the spin up and down cases or the ground state.

This research is focused on a small kettle hole located within the Morąg moraines (Iława Lake District, NE Poland). The study objective was to determine the impact of palaeoenvironmental changes in sedimentation and properties of sediments filling the bottom of the kettle hole. Sedimentological, geochemical, and palaeobotanical studies enabled us to distinguish several development phases of the kettle hole, and cluster analysis performed on physicochemical data yielded seven local geochemical zones (JuI/I to JuI/VII). The beginning of biogenic sedimentation in the conditions of a small water body, functioning in the Late Glacial period (4.20–4.10 m), was determined on the basis of palaeobotanical research. Sediments deposited in the lake during its further evolution were rich in microelements such as Ca, Na, Mg, and K, and to a smaller extent – Fe and Mn (JuI/I–III local geochemical zones). The Late Glacial lacustrine period ended with the accumulation of very silty, pollen-free gyttja, with a stratigraphic hiatus (JuI/IV, 3.40–3.20 m). The sediments were enriched with SiO2ter, which indicates an increased rate of slope erosion, and concretions of Fe-Mn occurring below this layer (JuIII) provide evidence for lowering of the water level and even desiccation. In the Holocene, the lacustrine period ended with the accumulation of coarse detrital gyttja (3.20–2.60 m). Palaeobotanical data indicate that the next group of sediments were deposited in the Late Subboreal and Subatlantic periods (2.60–0.0 cm, JuI/V–VII; sedge peat). Their properties were varied and related to hydrologic conditions, limited denudation, and vegetation succession. There was also a significant change in the trophic conditions of the water and consequently in the sediments of the kettle hole, which changed during the lacustrine period from basic to acid, and strongly acid in the surface layer. This reaction may be related to a change in the water regime as well as to human impact in the environment, which led to the colonization of the peat bog by Sphagnum moss.

This research investigates a novel hole-flanging process by paddle forming through the use of finite element (FE) simulations. Paddles of different shapes rotating at high speeds were used to deform clamped sheets with predrilled holes at their centers. The results of the simulations show that the paddle shape determines the geometry and principal strains of the formed flanges. A convex-shaped paddle forms flanges with predominant strains in the left quadrant of the forming limit diagram (FLD). However, the convex paddle promotes unwanted bulge formation at the clamped end of the flange. A concave paddle forms flanges with no bulge but the principal strains of elements in the middle section of the flange are in the right quadrant of the FLD which indicates an increased probability for crack occurrence. An optimization of the paddle shape was conducted to prevent bulging at the clamped end while avoiding crack occurrence. The paddle shape was optimized by mapping the deformation of some elements along the flange length to a pre-defined strain path on the FLD while maintaining the bulge height within the desired geometric tolerance. The radii and lengths of the paddle edge were varied to obtain an optimum paddle shape.

The breeding was successful – this pair raised 5 young. In 2021, birds returned to nesting in a box on the church tower.

In this paper, we introduce a graph operation, namely one-three join. We show that the graph G admits a one-three join if and only if either G is one of the basic graphs (bipartite, complement of bipartite, split graph) or G admits a constrained homogeneous set or a bipartite-join or a join. Next, we define ℳH as the class of all graphs generated from the induced subgraphs of an odd hole-free graph H that contains an odd anti-hole as an induced subgraph by using one-three join and co-join recursively and show that the maximum independent set problem, the maximum clique problem, the minimum coloring problem, and the minimum clique cover problem can be solved efficiently for ℳH.

Multi-hole probes are simple and robust device to measurement of flow velocity magnitude and direction in wide range of angles of attack – up to 75°. They become popular as they may be easily use to measurement of unknown flow velocity, while optical methods, like PIV or LDA, require some knowledge about the flow for proper setting of measurement devices. Multi-hole probes are also more lasting in comparison with CTA hot-wire probes, which may be damaged by a dust. A multi-hole probe measures air pressure with one pressure tap on its tip and a few (usually 2, 4, 6 or more) taps on conical or semispherical surface of the probe tip. Based on measured pressures, some non-dimensional pressure coefficients are calculated, which are related to flow velocity direction (i.e. two angles in Cartesian or spherical coordinate system) and magnitude. Finding relations between these parameters is relatively complex, which for years was limiting application of multi-hole probes. The article summarizes methods of multi-hole probes calibration and use, which may be classified as nulling and non-nulling methods or – with other criteria – as global and local methods. The probe, which was presented in the article, was the 5-hole straight probe manufactured by Vectoflow GmbH and calibrated in the stand designed and manufactured at the Institute of Aviation. The local interpolation algorithm has been used for calibration, with some modifications aimed on mitigate of mounting uncertainty, which is related with the non-alignment of flow velocity direction and probe axis Results of calibration showed that the accuracy of presented methodology is satisfactory. The standard measurement uncertainty was assessed for 0.2° for the pitch angle and yaw angle, which is better than accuracy declared by the probe’s manufacturer (1.0°). The measurement uncertainty of the flow velocity is approximately 0.12 m/s, similarly like in manufacturer’s data.

Opis:
This work represents an interesting development in the detection and interpretation of crack evolution in through hole technology (THT) solder joints, which based on the development of general and common method. Serial sectioning is a useful method because it overcomes the problems associated with traditional two-dimensional metallographic techniques by providing information about (micro)structures in three-dimensions. In our work, serials sectioning with reconstruction method was utilized to visualize the 3D nature of cracks in through hole solder joint. Accurate quantitive analysis of the cracks, such as crack length, position and extension are presented with a help of the developed method: newly defined parameter and serial-cross sectioning method.

Opis:
Tool travel and tool switch planning are the two major issues in hole-making operations of industrial part which involves drilling, tapping etc. operations. It is necessary to find the sequence of operations, which minimizes the total non productive time and tool switch time of hole-making operations depending upon the hole location and the tool sequence to be followed. In this work, an attempt is made to reduce total non-productive time and tool switch time of hole-making operations by applying a relatively new algorithm known as shuffled frog leaping with modification for the determination of optimal sequence of operations. In order to validate the developed shuffled frog leaping algorithm with modification, it is applied on six different problems of holes and its obtained results are compared with dynamic programming (DP), ant colony algorithm (ACO), and immune based evolutionary approach (IA). In addition, an application example of injection mould is considered in this work to demonstrate the proposed approach. The result obtained by shuffled frog leaping algorithm with modification is compared with those obtained using ACO, particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm and IA. It is observed that the results obtained by shuffled frog leaping algorithm with modification are superior to those obtained using ACO, PSO and IA for the application example presented.

Opis:
Stosowanie prefabrykowanych płyt strunobetonowych stało się tak powszechne, że zajmują się nimi już wszyscy, uważając te elementy za nieskomplikowane. Dotyczy to również wykonawstwa oraz modernizacji już zrealizowanych obiektów budowlanych. Pomimo szczegółowych wytycznych producentów i projektantów tego rodzaju płyt problemem wciąż jest zbyt duża dowolność w ich wycinaniu i wykonywaniu otworów, zwłaszcza na etapie realizacji lub zmian sposobu użytkowania w trakcie istnienia obiektów budowlanych. W pracy przedstawiono ogólne zasady bezpiecznego wycinania i otworowania prefabrykowanych płyt strunobetonowych oraz przypadki błędów popełnionych przy projektowaniu i realizacji stropów płytowych, prowadzące do stanów awaryjnych.
The usage of prefabricated prestressed hollow-core slabs has become so widespread that everyone is already considering these elements as simple. This also concerns the execution and modernization of already realized buildings. Despite the detailed guidelines for designers of this type of slabs, still is a problem with incorrectly make cut-offs and holes, especially at the stage of implementation or changes in the way of use during the existence of buildings. The paper presents general principles for safe cutting and opening of prefabricated prestressed hollow-core slabs and cases of errors made in the design and implementation of slab floors, leading to emergency conditions.
