Opis:
Janusz Korczak engaged children in writing novels intended for them. His writing experiments consisted in directly transferring children’s ideas to the paper, correcting and reworking the stories under the influence of the listeners’ comments, removing and cutting fragments of the text at their request. Following Korczak’s method, a reconstruction of understanding by modern children of created 85 years ago novel “Kajtuś Czarodziej” was made. Based on focus interviews, it was established that the fairytale context of reading is read by children on a multithreaded basis, filtered by reference to the present day, critically evaluated by older children. The linguistic layer is acceptable, while the transfer of the fairytale aspect to real life does not suit the contemporary young recipients. The children’s suggestions regarding the new plots of reading were mainly of mimetic character in relation to the original.

Opis:
The text outlines fragments of Georgian Romani and Dom children’s reality through the prism of their everyday life and educational practices. Romani (or Roma) and Dom children are usually perceived by the majority of society as well as by national and ethnic minorities as an identical, uniform group. Their images are burdened with stereotypes and they themselves – as begging participants in public space – have become inconvenient for the majority of the society, hence excluded and marginalized. With regard to social representations, Roma and Dom children can be included in the category of “street children”, children “out of place”, “invisible” children, and children remaining “at the crossroads” of tradition and postmodernity. A portrayal of the situation of Roma and Dom minorities in Georgia reveals the reality of children in big city environments as well as the dimensions of their social exclusion and poverty. The text was written within field research: “The forgotten minorities in Georgia” conducted by the author in 2013 and 2014 in Georgia, South Caucasus.

The article presents one of the most avant-garde educational experiences for young children in the world. The first preschools in Reggio Emilia (Italy) were established after the Second World War and they have been under the supervision of the municipality for over 45 years. The main initiator and educator of this early childhood practice was Loris Malaguzzi (1920–1994). One of the reasons for this long-lasting project is the readiness of Reggio Emilia educators to cross boundaries, and another is their openness to new ideas and perspectives. They take their inspiration not only from pedagogy, but from philosophy, the exact sciences, architecture, literature, and visual communication as well. Inspired by different ideas and theories, being reflective and inquiring, they interpret and construct their own concepts and theories instead of reproducing them.

Introduction: The preschool age is reasonably considered as the most significant period in the process of a child's body formation. It is at this particular age that the foundation is laid for personal health and physical qualities necessary for efficient participation in various spheres of social life in the future. The aim of this study is to get a knowledge about the dynamics and level of physical fitness in three- to sixyear-old children. Material and methods: The study was carried out on the basis of pre-school institutions of Lviv and Lviv region in 2017. Altogether 1188 preschool children (n=1188) were involved in the research, including 418 children of junior preschool age (3 to 4 years old), 350 middleaged preschoolers (4 to 5 years old) and 420 senior preschoolers (5 to 6 years old). Methods of research applied were as follows: analysis and systematization of scientific publications, educational experiment, educational testing, educational observations, Student's t-test, parametric statistics methods. Results: It has been found that with age the examined sample of children displays gradual improvement of all physical fitness characteristics. The findings testify to intensive and heterochronic development of children's motor qualities in the process of their ontogenesis. Conclusion: General physical fitness level of the majority of the examined children could be estimated as satisfactory and corresponding to the appropriate age standards. Our findings supplement the data on application of the available informative tests for preschooler's physical fitness assessment.

The article shows the need for research and their description as well as the evaluation of understanding and forming word-formative structures by children with intellectual disability in comparison with analogical abilities of children without such a disability.

The dispute on the possibility and shape of teaching religion in the public school has been going on for centuries. And although this education has found its place in school, the debate that is around them means that in the face of the challenges of pluralism, multiculturalism and multi-religiousness, it must constantly determine its status, mission, goals and tasks. There are still numerous doubts as to whether the school is at all the most appropriate place for shaping the sensitive areas of the human spirit, which is the religious worldview. The purpose of this text is to reflect on the place and role of existential questions in (Polish) early religious education. The text also asks about the dialogical nature of teaching, which is a cardinal prerequisite for philosophical inquiry in education (including religious education). For the purpose of this study, the analysis of “Basic Program of the Catechesis of the Catholic Church in Poland” from 2010 and 2018 was made.

Opis:
Do okolic najczęściej oparzonych należą kończyny i tułów.
Burns in children is a medical, social and economic problem. Baby's skin is very sensitive to thermal factors. The most common cause of burns is hot water. Less frequent ones are: direct contact with flame, hot objects or corrosive substances. The most common areas of burns are limbs and torso. The biggest age group among people suffering from burns are children between first and second year of life. The treatment for burns in children is significantly different from that of burned adults. Im-mediate proper first aid to burned child and the ability to deal with an incident at the scene of the accident have big effect on further treatment and rapid recovery. Prognosis for the treatment of burns is directly related to the extent of burns and on its basis, the decision is made about outpatient or inpatient treatment. Quality of first aid given to the patient depends on the basic medical exper-tise of the person providing the first aid. It should be given as soon as possible in accoradance with basic rules, so it is important to have the basic and necessary knowledge about how to handle your child’s burn.

The ‘Little Medic’ project has been carried out at Poznan University of Medical Sciences for six years. It enjoys great popularity. Every year, about 400 pupils from primary schools from Poznan and the surrounding area in the age of 6–12 participate in it. The study aims to present the organizational specificity of the ‘Little Medic’ project, and the opinions about it expressed by teachers participating in the project with their students. At the end of each academic year, teachers take part in an anonymous survey summarizing and assessing the project. The first part of the article presents the method of the ‘Little Medic’ project organization. In particular, it describes the elements distinguishing the project from other children’s universities in Poland. The second part presents the analysis of evaluation data collected during the six years of the project. Long experience in running classes for children as part of the ‘Little Medic’ project allows for conclusions about the usefulness and innovativeness of this form of lesson conduct, and the survey results confirm the high level of teachers’ satisfaction with the proposed way of organizing classes.

The paper presents the results of the research on consumer experience of 6–7 year old children investigated from the child’s perspective. The authors employed the method of interview with the child about TV advertisements, using stimulus material. The authors state that children recognize TV advertisements shown for them, make a distinction between advertisements and other television programmes, and have a certain knowledge about them. The study disclosed that the child’s approach to advertising depends on adults’ behaviour. It also revealed rudiments of critical assessment of advertising, which are mainly determined by negative experience of the child itself using the advertised item. According to the authors, in order to achieve the child’s critical attitude towards consumption and advertising, the adult who is together with the child must have similar features and values.

Calls for intensive and distinct activities for child protection are clearly visible in the last decade in many international initiatives. They appeal mainly to a specific canon that can be read from various instruments and documents, where child’s right to be protected from violence is clarified and explained and they show praxeological interpretation of directions and forms of activities that are demanded and that are worked out on the basis of scientific background and the reflection on praxis and its effectiveness. The paper is an attempt of holistic presentation of the basic elements of understanding the right of the child to be free from all forms of violence and its social application in the global and regional perspective.

Background. Adequate nutrition is one of the most important factors for influencing growth and development of children. Providing adequate amounts of minerals is extremely important in the developmental age, especially in periods of intensive growth. Calcium and vitamin D deficiency may have a negative impact on the health of children, both in the short and long term. Objective. The aim of this study was to evaluate the content of calcium and vitamin D in the meals of preschoolers and to compare the obtained results to Polish dietary reference values for children aged 4-6 years. Material and methods. The study was conducted in 40 randomly selected kindergartens in some Silesian cities and were concerning 1,746 children. 10-day-menus and preschool inventory reports describing the amount of food used for meal preparation were obtained from every kindergarten. 10-day-menus were analysed in terms of calcium and vitamin D content with the use of the Dieta 5 software. The obtained results were developed in Microsoft Excel 2016. Results. The analysis of 10-days menus showed significant deficiencies in both calcium and vitamin D intake in the assessed food rations. The mean calcium level was 416.0 mg while vitamin D was 1.47 μg. The content of calcium and vitamin D in the examined 10-days menus did not meet the dietary reference values. Conclusions. The necessity to modify menus in terms of increasing the consumption of the analysed nutrients was demonstrated, as well as the need to implement nutritional education for preschool staff and parents was suggested

Children’s game makes a part of children’s lives. The paper provides partial results of empirical research focused on children’s game in the home and school environment. The character of the empirical research was diagnostic and quantitative. The subject of the research was children’s game and its implementation for children under 12 years of age. There were 218 individual respondents from all over Slovakia who participated in the individual interviews. They gave oral answer to questions about the game in their childhood and the way it way realized. Here we also present the approach of teachers and psychologists. Due to political-pedagogical character, we divided the game and the respondents into three categories according to the age and childhood.

The aim of the following text is to present various manners of thinking about adults by five-year olds. On the basis of group interviews the author tries to recognize how children perceive adults. Despite the fact that this research ought to be treated only as a case study, the outcome shown in the essay depicts the children’s world. What is more it also shows how we, the adults, rear children. It was demonstrated that children view us as individuals physically resembling themselves, extremely busy at work, privileged when it comes to doing things that children cannot, great role models and good guardians. They do realize that in the adult world there are people who can do harm to them. To us it may seem that all these revelations are nothing new, but the results can show that we fail to treat children as partners.

Opis:
Article is deeply rooted in the history of society, presents the historical and socio-cultural situation of phenomenon of playing, children’s games and the role of children’s literature between the Enlightenment and Romanticism and shows that especially the middle class does not occupy an outstanding position. On the contrary, the middle class belongs to the most sceptical social forces. The central values of the middle class – especially the puritan, Calvinist und pietistic parts of it – are different: industriousness, diligence, asceticism, the sacrifice of pleasure, efficiency and rationality. In the bourgeois use of time, all idleness basically counts as suspicious, all playing as a useless waste of time. This attitude is reinforced by the polemical delimitation from the noble and courtly lifestyle, in which all kinds of games have a central place and which, for this reason, is viewed as parasitic. Article pays attention also to the German word for play or game (in German, there is just one word for this, “Spiel”), which can be used for mental games, word play, but also the performance on stage or in an orchestra. Beyond this, text emphasised how to classify genres based on play with language, with sense and nonsense, as well as literary patterns, and genres such as nonsense poetry and parody, as part of intellectual culture rather than part of play culture.

Opis:
Introduction. Burns constitute the most common and severe injuries suffered in childhood. Objective. The study was aimed at providing a retrospective analysis of the etiology, location, extent and depth of burns, as well as treatment methods and length of hospital stay. Materials and method. A retrospective analysis of 508 cases of children treated due to a thermal injury between 1 January 2007 31 December 2011 was conducted at the Department of Paediatrics, Urology and Paediatric Surgery, Children’s Hospital, L. Rydygier Provincial Hospital in Toruń, Poland. Results. The sample group included more boys (58.9%) than girls (41.1%). The most numerous group comprised children aged 1–2 years (44.5%). Burns were largely suffered at home (91.9%). Injuries were largely caused by thermal burns (99.2%). Half of the children sustained injury to one body area (51.4%), while every third sufferer (37.9%) was affected by burns to body parts prone to trigger shock. Burns up to 5% of the Total Body Surface Area (TBSA) were suffered by half (51.2%) of the children. Most of the patients underwent conservative treatment (89.4%). Conclusions. Burns were mostly suffered by children at 1–2 years of age, with boys prevailing over girls. Injuries were largely suffered at the child’s family home, in the afternoon or evening, while the child was in the care of the parents. Scalds, caused by hot liquid, constituted the most frequent type of injury. The most numerous group of affected children comprised burns to limb areas, and thorax with limbs, with the TBSA of up to 5%. The great majority of the patients underwent conservative treatment, with a hospitalization period of up to 3 days.

This article analyses the situation of a child placed in an isolation facility in the context of contemporary trends in treating children and adolescents by the judiciary and in educational and resocialisation facilities. The system of juvenile re-socialisation in Poland, regulated by the Act on Juvenile Delinquency Proceedings of 1982, covers children and adolescents in connection with their depravation or with committing a punishable offence and it provides for institutional educational measures and reformatory measures in the form of sending a minor to a juvenile detention centre. Although a prison sentence passed on minors is an exception to the rule of adjudicating educational and reformatory measures, according to international regulations, the category of juvenile imprisonment is broader than serving a sentence in prison. It is our intention to consider the situation of a child placed outside their home in an institution where they are exposed to confinement by a court or another administrative body.

Opis:
Introduction: Burns in children are a serious public health issue all over the world. This paper aims at comparing the frequency and causes of burns in children. Material and methods: A retrospective analysis of medical records of 1230 children treated at Szczecin's burns centre in 1980s and presently was carried out. Results: We have noted that at present hospitalization frequency of burned children has declined 1.7 times. Children who undergo hospital treatment are mostly aged 1-2 (ns) and boys prevail 1.7 times. Infants constitute a high percentage of burn patients (15% and 17%). A proportion of countryside children has decreased (38% vs 28%; p<0.001) while a proportion of town children has increased. Skin burns most frequently resulted from contact with hot liquid (89% vs 83%; p=0.043). The other causes have been noted far less frequently: flame (7% vs 8%; ns), electric current (1% vs 2%; ns), chemicals (0,7% vs 1%; ns) and a few other factors such as: dry heat, sunrays and solarium (2% vs 5%; p=0.002). Conclusions: 1. Over the course of the past 25 years, Western Pomerania has seen a twofold decrease in the frequency of hospitalization of burned children, while the ages and causes of burns have remained the same. 2. Those most often treated are children aged 1-2, mainly boys; there is a high percentage of infants among them. 3. Hot liquid has remained the chief cause of burns in younger children; in the case of older ones, so is flame.

The paper presents the mechanisms that led to the first American legal regulations and organizations for the protection of minors and the elimination of child abuse. The background for the considerations is the case that shocked the American public opinion in the second half of the 19th century. It concerned a 10-year-old girl, Mary Ellen Wilson, who was a victim of violence and neglect on the part of her guardians. The attempts to save the child showed that the American system of social welfare lacked adequate institutional and organizational instruments to protect a child who was a victim of violence and abuse. Based on the literature and available archival materials – official documents and press publications from the discussed period – the course of the trial was reconstructed, as well as the initiatives undertaken after its completion, which led to the establishment of the first American organization aimed to protect children. The summary presents the characteristics of the American movement for the protection of children against the background of European initiatives undertaken in this field.

Abuse and neglect of the child as a non-random, knowingly (or unknowingly) conduct a parent or other person to the child who is in the society unacceptable or rejected and which impair the physical, mental and social condition and development of the child and cause his death. The most common forms of committing domestic violence against children is repeated physical and emotional abuse, verbal abuse, especially threats. It is estimated that two thirds affected are children under the age of three years. The most effective means of reducing the number of children at risk of child abuse syndrome - is prevention. It is necessary to inform the general public about the issue of child abuse and to raise general awareness of the obligation to report any suspicion of child abuse and neglect in the vicinity. In Slovakia there is a system of care for abused children, in which they engage as state as well as non-state institutions. Report case can alone a child, or a person who suspects that a child‘s development is compromised for any reason. Children are in acute cases placed in the „Center for abused children“. This device is intended for children who need special and immediate assistance. This is particularly the children mentally and physically maltreated or sexually abused by their parents or by a stranger. The main coordinator of activities in Slovakia aimed at preventing child abuse to child victims of violence and respect of children‘s rights is a non-profit organization Center Slniečko from Nitra.

Providing specific criminal protection for migrant minors requires the balance of two legal aspects related to the specific weaknesses of the children; on the one hand, the condition of the minor is characterized by the inadequate experience and specific risks of victimization; on the other hand, the migrant status is related to the lack of social and family references, economic need and diversity of culture. The protection the two mentioned legal aspects requires the enforcement of both different rules to be combined; the application of existing regulations, with the evaluation of the crime’s circumstances, as well as the definition of new criminal figures, who identify some peculiar forms of possible aggression or endangerment, are both useful solutions for the very problematic balance of the two goods. In order to provide effective protection for migrant minors, it is essential to fully implement the principle of “last resort”. Criminal protection, in fact, should only intervene in support and completion of priority preventive administrative safeguards; the administrative protection has to intervene before the commission of serious crimes, which risk compromising, even irremediably, the personality of the vulnerable minor. Otherwise, the administrative action would provide only indirect protection, with no effects on weak persons; an efficient intervention aims to preserve the fragility of the migrant child taking into account the objective risks, often very serious, due to the simultaneous of the two conditions (minor age and migration status). Criminal protection alone would not prevent the maturing of trauma, harassment, exploitation, material and educational deprivation. The law of 7 April 2017, n. 47 «Provisions regarding the protection measures for unaccompanied foreign minors» is significant in this regard.

In the contemporary world social participation of children is seen as an idea that should be implemented at various social levels. The idea itself is understood multi-dimensionally – as various social activities, including the participation in decision-making processregarding children’s matters. Today in a discourse on children’s participation its collective dimension is accented, which means social participation and access to social and civil goods of children as a social group. In the discourse on participation, which has been developing dynamically since the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, various theories are used as a background against which children’s participationis considered and justified. The paper presents an outline of this problem and current tendencies in the discourse.

In the light of recent world facts, there has been growing attention paid to refugee minors who, fleeing from violence, war, poverty and climate change, or seeking better opportunities, hope to reach safety in Europe. Challenging life experiences such as war, violence, forced displacement, etc., can potentially threaten children’s development. However, many succeed in turning their lives around and develop well despite such negative circumstances. Refugee children, often overlooked by immigration laws and policy makers, prove to be a particularly resilient group, very resourceful in mechanisms for overcoming life adversities. By taking this understanding of refugee minors as a starting point, this article provides an overview of research in the field of resilience, aiming to discuss the implications that tie refugee minors’ well-being to the human and children’s rights obligations that society bears towards them. The article concludes that there is an urgent need for interventions and programs which target factors that promote refugee children’s resilience in their design and implementation, informed by current knowledge of refugee children’s life and cultural background, and their self-ratings of negative and positive life events. The standards defined by human and children’s rights instruments and equity regarding children’s rights to achieve a good life should be a matter to be taken seriously for all children worldwide.

The paper presents two faces of the problem of corporal punishment. One is a global tendency or even a movement towards forbidding all forms of violence against children, and also those that have been traditionally presented in upbringing. There are several international legal instruments that undertake the problem of corporal punishment, starting from the Convention on the Rights of the Child. The most important ones are reviewed in the paper as well as some global initiatives that are being undertaken especially in the last decade. The other face of the problem is a practice of the everyday upbringing of children which can still be described as violent, a practice where parents still approve some violent behaviours and still behave violently towards their children. The paper presents a part of the survey carried out among parents of children below 18 years old. The results show that violence in upbringing is visible in Poland, that corporal punishment is still accepted and experienced by Polish children, although in Poland there has been an official ban of corporal punishment since 2010. The survey shows that both knowledge on the law and parents’ attitudes towards some violent behaviours should be corrected.

Opis:
The aim of this paper is to present results of critical analyses of Polish children’s songs. Having analysed the lyrics of more than eighty Polish children’s songs, the author couched main categories construing the image of the social world presented in them. The qualitative research revealed propaganda role of the language used in children’s songs: the features of social world (i.e. people, places, relationships, behaviours and values) that are presented in these songs often transmit strongly stereotypical and oversimplified vision of the social reality. In this sense, social education is based on manipulation in which lyrics are the main tool of symbolic violence.

Measles-mumps vaccinations might be responsible for the development of autism spectrum diseases (ASD), including high functioning autism, such as Asperger’s syndrome; that is what Wakefield et al. suggested in a paper in The Lancet twenty years ago [1]. Later, the Lancet Editors retracted this publication [2], due to the fact that Wakefield had „produced“ fake, falsified results, and that he was implicated in interests regarding material compensation from pharmaceutical companies producing vaccines to families with ASD. The Wakefield publication had the effect that consequently vaccination rates declined dramatically, and fuelled discussions about other environmental factors (bacteria, mercury, pesticides, etc.).

Opis:
Introduction. Recommended vaccination plays an important role in reducing the risk of complications, which may accompany many dangerous diseases. However, they also generate numerous ambivalent emotions among parents. The aim of the study was to evaluate the factors which might influence parents’ decision to have their children given the recommended vaccines. Material and methods. 100 parents of children aged between 0 and 5 took part in the study. The survey was carried out by means of a diagnostic poll with the application of a self-designed research questionnaire. Results. Parents’ level of education and knowledge has a significant influence on positive decisions concerning recommended vaccination of their children. The advocacy of anti-vaccination movements does not entail the decision about not having their children vaccinated. Conclusions. Promotional campaigns should be launched in the media, in which solid information should be provided by doctors and nurses. Popularizing free vaccination campaigns among parents will increase the number of vaccinated children.
Materiał i metody. Badaniem objęto 100 rodziców dzieci wieku 0-5 roku życia. Badania zostały przeprowadzone metodą sondażu diagnostycznego z wykorzystaniem autorskiego kwestionariusza ankiety. Wyniki. Wnioski. Należy podjąć działania propagujące znaczenie szczepień poprzez udzielanie rzetelnych informacji przez zespół lekarsko-pielęgniarski z wykorzystaniem mediów. Propagowanie wśród rodziców bezpłatnych akcji szczepionkowych zwiększy szczepialność wśród dzieci.

Introduction: A vision problem is a condition which involves not only visual difficulty but also blindness. Purpose: The purpose of this short review study is the early recognition of vision problems in children, the proper treatment as well as their prevention. Materials and methods: The material of the study has been recent articles on the subject that have been found mainly in the electronic database Medline, (HEAL-Link), with the following keywords: children, vision impairment, blindness, treatment, prevention. Review: A high risk group of individuals that frequently presents ophthalmic severe lesions leading to blindness consists of children with prenatal and perinatal adverse effects. Conclusions: Education gives the opportunity of co-existence between the blind and people who are able to see. This is the path to social inclusion of individuals with vision problems. Moreover, it is estimated these two groups would have more points in common than differences between them through this experience.

The article encompasses the problems of childhood and its influence on the rest of one's life. I have concentrated on this crucial and specific time in life. It is demonstrated by biology, medicine, psychology, and psychoanalysis that human habits are formed in childhood. Health, hygiene and aesthetic behaviour determine one's further fate and influence life in its entirety. It is that phase of human life that determines the rest of it. In childhood children manifest their cognitive and emotional powers. They are ready to discover the world. That is how they demonstrate their power, but also fragility and sensitivity. The notion of value is mainly related to the meaningful aspects of human existence. That which is held dear and considered important determines further goals. Opinions and experience serve to emphasize that which is important. Those are created and take shape with the child's development. I took great care to emphasize in the article the enormous value of childhood as part of human life.Values, along with childhood, have a decisive influence on the essence and form of existence

Special attention has been paid to a figurative type which represents children’s creativity as well as relations between names and reality: features of the person, thing or reality. The choice, which is made by a child of a transparent internal form instead of a traditional form used for new words formation (creation), reflects specific children’s perception of the word.

Children’s literature and art activities are not only useful for creativity but also quite functional for education through new understanding in the contemporary perspectives about learning. For instance, philosophy for children is a wide-spread methodology to reveal children’s potentials by building a “community of inquiry” at classrooms. Children’s books and animations can provide a magnificent starting point for those philosophical discussions. However, in many societies, children and young people are still underestimated that the usual point of view about children’s literature used to include ‘softer’ topics, which is likewise to be ‘censored’ compared to literature in general. All products for children have usually function to cultivate new generations according to traditional discourse underlying in society. The essential purpose of this paper is to reveal possibilities to shape traditional discourse into an expanded perspective with children utilizing discussion and critical thinking. It is supposed to analyze the artworks for children in variable ways, by embodying discourse within. In between education and entertainment, cultural products also expected to be age-appropriate. Besides the relation between adult-children distinction and all cultural products, specifically produced ‘for’ children, how children see themselves is directly related to how they interpret cultural products. In this paper, two short animations, Alike, and Ian which were watched together with a group of children in a private secondary school in Istanbul, Turkey, will be analyzed through children’s perspectives, with their expressions.

Opis:
The observation of the media in the worldwide and domestic market allows us to see a tendency towards the professionalization of children’s culinary culture. A manifestation of this phenomenon is inter alia the development of toy industry associated with the manufacture of culinary accessories, as well as the annexation of the media space reserved for children and the young. Within it, we can notice the multiplication of culinary TV programs, while more and more Internet culinary projects, little chef online games, and applications for mobile devices are becoming available. A culinary “thematic turn” is also taking place in the book market for children and young people. After 1989, impressive qualitative and quantitative changes took place in the cookbook segment for the youngest readers. Evolution covered their new thematic variants and editorial styles as well as media formats (culinary audiobooks and e-books), which reflected the global fashions and ideas characteristic of the consumer culture, as well as evidenced the culinary emancipation of the youngest. The report will show diverse variants of present-day cookbooks for young readers, including: those linked with children’s entertainment supersystems; those referring to the works in the canon of school reading and to classical children’s and young people’s literature; family books i.e. addressed to children and their parents/guardians; cookbooks in verse, culinary toy-books, guides promoting healthy nutrition and ecological lifestyle, books promoting knowledge about national and regional cuisines, and finally – recipes in literature for children. Apart from presenting interesting examples for individual varieties offered by the Polish publishing houses, the author wishes to refer to selected exemplifications that recapitulate the history of the phenomenon in Western culture (Germany, the United States, the UK). The principal thesis posed by the author is to connect the popularity of culinary publications for children with the tradition of children’s kitchen and cooking games, including playing the cooking doll and miniature cooker, popular from the mid-nineteenth century. To confirm her thesis, the author refers to the works of the French Annales school (chiefly Philippe Aries), thus including her report in the research methodology practiced by the French school’s representatives.

Opis:
The article presents the need to make the culture of children's rights fundamental from the earliest years of their lives, given the idea of children's social participation. Creating and practising such a culture throughout childhood is a task that requires not only a thorough knowledge of the child’s rights among both parents and teachers but also the wider acceptance of these ideas and the creation of the right environment for sharing and speaking up for them both at home and in early education settings. The academic and colloquial discourse on parental practices and institutional childcare often overlooks the dimension/significance of recognising children's participation in safeguarding their human rights. Meanwhile, the processes of early normative socialisation are of great importance to their development and their future attitudes towards law in general and towards their human rights and others' rights. Social participation is where the child can experience his or her rights and learn about respecting others' rights. With this in mind, a question must be asked about how children's rights are realised in early childhood in the context of their participation in the socialisation process. The author uses the example of the child’s right to a family as a lens to observe how the idea of the children’s participation in securing children’s rights may be realised or violated. The article is based on an analysis of the subject's literature, in which legal discourse and teachings on child-rearing and early education are used as the interpretative context.

Play is a typical and natural activity in children, which introduces it to the real world. It plays an uncommonly important function, thanks to the which the little person learns and gains information about their environment, the properties of objects, social relations or other rules. This area is different in children with autism. In most cases, play is accompanied by significant deficits, and the burden of focus of revalidation influences remains on the development of areas that are more disturbed, such as communication, disturbances in social interactions or behaviour hindering functioning. In course of therapeutic work, we sometimes forget the seemingly trivial activity that the playing of a child may be in view of adults. Considering this, it is worthwhile to take a look at the role ascribe to play by specialists over the years, and what it looks like in autistic children.

At present, there are a large number of manufacturers operating on the market, which are engaged in the production and distribution of mechatronic and robotic toys. These toys range from the cheapest and simplest to sophisticated costly models for play education. Looking at the market offer, it can be stated that mechatronic toys are being produced, which are intended for children of several months. When developing children’s and educational robotics, it is, therefore, necessary to take into account the psychomotor development of the child. Respecting or not respecting it has a major impact on the success of the toy for the consumer and the fulfillment of the educational goal for which it is intended. Last but not least, in connection with the child’s development, the question arises as to what ergonomic principles, when designing toys intended for children depending on age, need to be respected and implemented into solutions to eliminate problems related to the development of children’s and educational robotics. The subject of interest in the article is the age groups of children from birth to preschool age. The aim of the article is to identify which factors in the construction of children’s robotic toys for the youngest children up to the period of preschool age are key from the point of view of ergonomics.

Opis:
In the last 3 decades, many Afghan children immigrated to Iran with their parents, relatives, or even born there. The vulnerable position of afghan children in Iran caused them to be deprived of their basic rights such as right to Identity, right to education, and several others. These discriminations will be multiple if there is a gender gap in the society they live in. In this regard, afghan girls are one of the most discriminated communities in Iran. They get discriminated on the ground of their status as a migrant, as a child, and also as a girl. This study aims to find out how such multiple discriminations including racism, sexism, and adultism have an influence on afghan girls’ lives in Iran from their own perspective and also to observe how far these girls are aware of the discriminations in their surroundings. For this aim, various qualitative methods have been applied. The result demonstrated that the interviewees were almost aware of the discriminatory attitudes against them but it seems that racism is the most visible discrimination form from their perspective.

Brought out of silence is a category used by Smolińska-Theiss to present children’s narrations and dialogues about their everyday matters. They take the form of letters to God, to presidents, albums with children’s drawings, photos, children’s films, graffiti, posts and comments. Originally, they date back to Korczak’s studies. Our text is also an act of letting children speak and appreciating their comments and opinions. It is concerned with children’s understanding of the world. Defining the meaning of life by children is the key category here. We called it “a comparative study” due to the fact that we will present utterances by both Polish and Ukrainian children as the category “a meaning of life” may be interpreted differently in various cultural, political or social contexts. The research carried out both in Poland and abroad indicates that a child is a competent unit capable of making logical utterances with the content which shows deep understanding of the world. This text is based on the following theoretical studies: – thinking about a child originating in a postmodernist childhood paradigm as well as psychological constructivism; – the analysis of research material has been based on Judith Butler’s theory – Frames of War.

After Ukraine’s independence in 1991 Ukrainian children got wider access to the translations of the works of prominent world writers for children. The classic literature of the world, aiming to mediate the children’s feelings for beauty and literary aesthetic, became an integral part of the Ukrainian educational system. Thanks to the increase of famous children’s books written in modern Ukraine, Ukraine is now experiencing the growth of a new generation of more intelligent and capable citizens free from communism ideology, able to integrate and positively contribute to the modern multicultural world. However “children and war” is now again among the painful topics in modern Ukrainian society but not new in history and literature. There are no wars, initiated by Ukrainians. The Famine of Ukrainians in the East of Ukraine by Russians, the Second World War, physical genocide of Ukrainian families and their children for the whole century even also just for the Ukrainian language saved Pain and Distrust in the generation memory of Ukrainians. But the aim of this survey of the Ukrainian literature for children and youth is to show the developing processes in the society on the basics of the main ideas, topics, directions and values during the XX-XXI centuries, beginning since the end of the XIX century by such prominent writer like Ivan Franko.

Opis:
The article is a review of research on racist feelings, attitudes and behaviours in relation to children. The authors focus on research tools used, including Clark Doll Test, Preschool Attitude Measure or Sticker Test. The analyses have shown that the phenomenon of racism and xenophobia is being increasingly raised in the scientific discourse in the context of this age group. In addition, it is emphasized that the concepts of race, religion or social class as key determinants of the place of man in society are unethical and immoral.

Opis:
Aggression is defined as the intentional action which causes pain and injury. The actions of an aggressive nature are designed to cause physical or mental harm to another person (Aronson, Wilson, & Akert, 1997). In contrast, violence is defined as an intentional action that goes beyond social norms and causes mental or physical pain (Pospiszyl, 1999). The article is concentrated on aggressive and violent language among children and adolescents. The term of ”language of aggression” has not been precisely defined yet. The language of aggression occurs the most when negative emotions and intentions are involved in the communication (Majchrzyk, 2002). The language of aggression is not only about using specific bad words but also about the way we speak. The article presents an overview of Polish and foreign literature concerning the issue of the language of aggression in children and adolescents. It shows why do teenagers and children use aggressive language, how is defined term of ”aggressive language” and what specialists can do to prevent such kind of problem.

Materiał i metody.

Introduction. Mortality in cervical cancer in Poland is one of the major oncological problems. Aim. Evaluation of women's knowledge about the risk factors for cervical cancer and the possibility of preventing cancer through preventive examinations. Material and methods. The study was carried out online. 135 women participated in the study. The research tool applied - the survey questionnaire containing 20 questions concerning the subject of the study. Information gathered in 135 survey questionnaires was analyzed. Based on the information obtained, statistical tables and graphs showing the distribution of the analyzed features were prepared. The women surveyed gave their consent and willingness to participate in the study and were informed of the anonymity of the study. Results. In the study, 74% of women think that cytology is the best way to detectany abnormalities. The highest number of respondents who declared this were aged 21-30 and 41-50. As many as 39% of women had never been examined for the early detection of cervical cancer and 12% do not remember when the study took place. Less than half (42%) had a cytology caleradication performed in the last 3 years and approximately 7% of the women had it done within the last 3-5 years. Half of women know what frequency of cytology performance should be, unfortunately the other half are not awareofit. The doctor or the midwife (26%) were referred to as a source of information concerning cervical cancer, half of the women surveyed(52%) relied on their own knowledge, where as the remaining 22% declared that they were not interested in the issue related to the cancer it self and its prevention. Conclusions. The studies show thatwomen'sknowledgeaboutcervicalcancerpreventionisunsatisfactory. Lack of knowledge was typical for younger women under 20 years of age. Wstęp. Umieralność na raka szyjki macicy w Polsce stanowi jeden z głównych problemów onkologicznych. Cel. Ocena wiedzy kobiet na temat czynników ryzyka rozwoju raka szyjki macicy oraz możliwości zapobiegania nowotworowi poprzez badania profilaktyczne. Materiał i metody. Badanie zostało przeprowadzone w Internecie. W badaniu wzięło udział 135 kobiet. Posłużono się narzędziem badawczym – kwestionariuszem ankiety, zawierającym 20 pytań dotyczących przedmiotu badań. Informacje zebrane w 135 kwestionariuszach ankiet poddano analizie. Na podstawie uzyskanych informacji zostały stworzone tabele statystyczne i wykresy obrazujące rozkłady analizowanych cech. Badane kobiety wyraziły zgodę i chęć udziału w badaniach oraz zostały poinformowane o anonimowości badania. Wyniki.

The XIX century Polish evangelical opinion-forming circles emerged in the Kingdom of Poland.Their views were reflected in press, mainly in “Zwi-astun Evangeliczny – Evangelical Herald”.The leading representative of these circles was Leopold Otto, pastor in Warsaw and Cieszyn, editor of “Zwiastun”.Issues affecting women used to be quite frequent topics of sermons and articles. For evangelical circles woman had to be, above all, a wife, mother and good Christian that does not go beyond the frames of the “the 3 K’s” designation. Apart from the family and religious spheres no other role was allocated to women. However, she had to be mother and an active housewife running the household in a modern way as for those times.Any postulates of equality or professionalization of women were decidedly rejected.Any attempts aimed to change women's position and hierarchy of duties were treated as attempts to violate the moral order and, consequently, the social order as well.Woman had to be exclusively a good Christian, mother and wife. Those were her fundamental tasks necessary for the functioning of society. This pattern was, as a rule, observed in Protestant families in the Kingdom of Poland at the turn of the XIX and XX centuries.Similar pattern was followed in Catholic communities.

The article offers a reading of Jan Józef Szczepański’s Koniec westernu (focusing on its sub-chapter Rewolucja dzieciaków) in the light of postcolonial theory. Having himself experienced political oppression in Polish People’s Republic, Szczepański developed a type of postcolonial sensibility, which gave him a unique perspective on the problems of post-war United States. This context and his biography help to point out particular features of Szczepański’s picture of the hippies who experience social exclusion in the US. They feel alienated from middle-class society which they see as dominated by materialism, and they evolve their own lifestyle.

Influenza is an acute infectious disease of the airways that occurs in every age group. The course of the disease may have a different severity and clinical picture, from asymptomatic to severe with symptoms of respiratory failure. The possibilities of pandemic infections and serious complications throughout the course of influenza distinguish it from other viral respiratory diseases, prompting us to treat it in a special way. Diagnosis of the disease is usually clinical in nature, and additional studies may be helpful in clinically relevant cases. The drug recommended for treatment and chemoprophylaxis is oseltamivir. Clinical benefits are greatest if treatment starts as early as possible, within 48 hours of the first symptoms of influenza. Clinical studies indicate that early treatment with oseltamivir may shorten the duration of the disease and reduce the risk of its complications. Annual influenza vaccination is the most effective method of preventing this disease, and the only contraindication to vaccination is the occurrence of an anaphylactic or other severe allergic reaction after a previous vaccination

Janusz Korczak (the pen name of Henryk Goldszmit), writer, doctor, but above all one the best tutors and teachers. Korczak fought for improvement of children’s lives. By his life and convictions he tried to prove that a child is a complete human being, not only a person in the making. Struggling for human dignity of a child, he concentrated his efforts on three areas: dignity of children, the rights of children and their place in a society. We can learn his stance on the situation of children, in the context of the European Children’s Rights Movement at the beginning of the 20th century, when he says: „wzywam o magna charta libertatis, o prawa dziecka” – (“I call for Magna Charta Libertatis, for children’s rights”). The voice of Janusz Korczak in his famous pedagogical essay “Jak kochać dziecko” – (“How to Love a Child”) has retained its significance to the present day. Fighting for children’s rights, the “Old Doctor” (his second pseudonym) concentrated on the position of children in the adults’ world and their mutual relationships. That is why the analysis of the main spheres of activity of the adults and children (family, school, society) is so important today, and consequently, finding the answer to the questions: To what extent are the Korczak’s objectives in the abovementioned spheres realized today? How children’s rights are respected?

Dynamic changes taking place in the contemporary world, which may be observed in the economy, politics and in the way the society functions, create many challenges to people in every aspect of their lives. One of the main tasks of today’s education is to help young people to obtain the skills necessary for lifelong learning, which will enable them to flexibly adapt to the ever-changing reality and consciously manage their own education, also after leaving school. Therefore, awakening students’ curiosity about the world around them and convincing young people that learning can be a pleasure and passion becomes the main goal of children’s universities. Such initiatives have been acting around the world and also in Poland for many years. The economic education programs aimed at primary school students offered by the Children’s University of Economics (EUD) and the Academy of Young Economist (AME) distinguish them within the rich offer of Polish children’s universities. Their primary goal is to popularize knowledge and build economic awareness among children, to promote entrepreneurial attitudes and to support parents in the appropriate economic education of the young generation. The EUD and AME offerings of extracurricular activities may also contribute to the growth of economic awareness among Poles. The high level of satisfaction of EUD and AME lecturers, as well as the unceasing interest in these activities among children, prove these projects to be a success.

The status of children in family and society is low since the year dot. This state of things is caused especially by adultcentrism, which means the view on youngsters from adult perspective, including the belief that adulthood is normality and standard, whereas childhood is state of incompleteness and imperfection. The article discusses the roots of adultcentric notions, instrumental treatment and social exclusion of children. The author examines the changes in social status of children and the influenceof consumerism and information revolution on contemporary role of children in family and society. She also considers why the objectification of children is so difficult to end.

SHOCK, as a recurring category that has been present for many years in the discourse on the right of the child/human to freedom from all forms of violence, becomes the focal point around which the considerations of this article are focused. The inspiration for the use of the shock category in education was the process of studying Anton Siemionowicz Makarenko’s Pedagogical Poemate and the analysis of the educational system he created along practical directives for parenting and its pedagogical implications. In the text, a fundamental question is raised about how Makarenko used SHOCK as a tool in the educational process? The text presents an analysis of the SHOCK category based on the behavior of violence against a child and analyzes their pedagogical implications.

The paper presents the problem of violence in upbringing from a historical and contemporary perspective. The reflection is focused on the situation in Poland – both in the past and today. A lot of historical resources indicate that violence in upbringing was a common reality for children in Poland from the Middle Ages and during the following centuries. Today in Poland violence in upbringing is banned in our law and although violent behaviours towards children are less popular and not as severe as in the past, still as a way of disciplining a child violence is in some forms socially accepted. The paper presents the results of the survey carried out in 2015 which is part of the monitoring which has been conducted by the Ombudsman for Children since 2011.

The paper describes the results of the survey focused on the social attitudes towards violence in upbringing made in 2015. The survey is a means of monitoring violence against children carrying out by the Ombudsman for Children since 2011. The research findings reveal a declining tendency in violence in upbringing acceptance over the study period. However, the violence in upbringing acceptance among the Poles remains at a high level. The survey shows that too many Poles consider beating children to be an effective method of upbringing and that too many parents use spanking and beating in their everyday relations with children. The final part of the paper concentrates on the possible solutions to stop using corporal punishment in Poland.

This article is an attempt to examine whether literature can be a remedy for the problems faced by children of different ages. The report Children’s rights from the perspective of children, parents and teachers was published in 2019 by UNICEF Polska. It has been used to diagnose the reasons for unhappiness among children aged 12—17. Among the reasons are: school and education, relationships with loved ones, relationships with peers. In her article, Katarzyna Kotaba refers to such authorities as Irena Borecka, Maria Molicka, and Bruno Bettelheim and to their unanimous opinion that good and valuable literature takes seriously children, their concerns and difficulties; moreover, this kind of literature helps children to overcome difficulties by building their self-confidence. Kotaba identifies the main thematic motifs in Gawryluk’s fiction and shows how this writer’s novels can help under-age readers cope in specific life situations, such as the parents’ divorce, emigration, and racism. In conclusion, she suggests that Gawryluk’s novels could be regarded as a cure for young readers’ problems as identified in the UNICEF report.

The authors present results of their studies dealing with symbols of fear identified in drawings made by Polish and Turkish children. The studies consisted in comparing results with regard to the categories and content of symbols recognized in the drawings presented by younger school-age children of the two nationalities. For the needs of the comparative analysis the following questions were formulated: In what way did the children present their fears in their drawings? How can the similarities in the symbols of fear presented in the drawings by Polish and Turkish children be interpreted? What do the observed differences testify to? Comparison of the symbols of fear allowed recognizing the similarities and differences occurring in the drawings produced by the examined children. It was found that the largest number of drawings present a symbol of fear connected with the category of animals. While interpreting the results, the authors accepted the thesis that the grasped similarities relating to the manner of presenting fear result from the common history of man, recorded in archetypes and symbols. On the other hand, the observed differences are connected with the tradition present in each of the cultures.

Prawo dziecka do szacunku, Jak kochać dziecko.
The article discusses the issue of children’s rights in the image of modern childhood against a collision with the vision of children’s rights by Janusz Korczak. Currently, despite the widely extended activity of many foundations, organized humanitarian aid, children’s rights continue to be violated. The child has enough flexibility to adapt to rapid changes in the surrounding reality and the many requirements it faces. Despite the many differences between the age J. Korczak lived in, and present times there can be seen many parallels and messages that apply to the reality of our times. In my work, I would like to rely on several texts of J. Korczak, addressing the issue of children’s rights, among others: Prawie dziecka do szacunku (The Child’s Right to Respect), Jak kochać dziecko. Dziecko w rodzinie (How to Love a Child. The Child in the Family), Prawidłach życia (Regulations of Life) and selected writings. In these works the following children’s rights are prevalent the right to life and the right of the child to be what it is, the right to property, its own opinion, fun and leisure. I analyze and present them in a context of contemporary vision of childhood and children’s rights contained in the UN Convention.

Child rights can be considered through the different characteristics of human rights, according to the classification “3P” as Protection, Provision, and Participation. The (potential) distinction between child rights and human rights recalls the former perspective about children’s not seen as human beings. The development of the fields on childhood studies such as “children’s participation” and “agency” are also related to the concept “empowerment,” which indicates the power relations between children and grown-ups. The main purpose of this paper is to debate all those notions through the children’s own experiences by referring to various examples in the frame of Power of children as the Fourth-P right. After discussing how children have the power to “challenge the authority,” I will indicate some examples from Little Review, as a remarkable experience of children’s participation. Lastly, I will try to reveal what today’s children consider the topic of child rights by sharing the findings of a pilot research with children, which I realized in 2019 December. In this study, twelve children who were 11-year-old then, wrote their commentaries about children’s rights and the requirements to have the rights. Thus, in the final part of this paper, the rights will be addressed through children’s perspectives.

As Schütz points out, subjective meaning is an inherent attribute of human activities. People experience phenomena on the basis of their previous experiences. According to the premises of phenomenology, the discussions of people from different socio-biographical locations will provide a variety of visions. The author describes how the experience of people who are involved with art for children but who differ in their social and professional roles influences the planning of events for children.

Through a qualitative research carried out in South-East Italy with twelve Unaccompanied and Separated Children (UASC) this paper attempts to explore their relation with the Internet and digital media. Findings reveal that digital tools facilitate communication and socialization and allow UASC to maintain relationships with social networks in their countries of origin as well as expand their networks in the country of residence within the migrant community. Digital media enhance access to information and leisure activities. Even if UASC recognize some risks of being online similar to those European adolescents face, it emerges that overall the Internet and digital media contribute to their wellbeing. They have the power to boost resilience vis-à-vis the challenges UASC face in their lives: being alone, in a new country, often institutionalized and without the support of a trustworthy adult figure.

In the present article I outline the situation of children who belong to an indigenous community of Ba’Aka Pygmies, a group inhabiting the Sangha-Mbaéré region of rainforest in the Central African Republic. These children are inscribed in the categories of “invisible” and “unheard” children. They are also deprived of the right to be properly researched. This is due to a number of external and internal factors which shape the contemporary reality of the formerly colonised country. Despite the fact that the Central African Republic broke free from colonial oppression, since 1960s it has been experiencing internal colonisation and civilising missions by the countries of the Global North so as to be “fruitfully” written in the narrative of national development. Thus, referring to key categories, I discuss postcolonial representations: images and narratives perceived through the perspective of a female researcher who, since 2002, has conducted field research among excluded and marginalised children and young people in fragile (vulnerable) contexts in Central Africa.

The purpose of this article is to present the protection of children's rights in the light of Polish and international legal regulations. Considerations regarding the legal basis for the protection of children's rights were divided into four parts. The right to be brought up in the family as a basic unit of society was discussed first of all. The next part elaborates on the right to decent social conditions. And the following deliberations are related to the right to education as the right to culture to which each and every child is entitled. The right to live as the inalienable right which is inevitably combined with the right to health protection was described as well.

Parental empathy as a correlate of individual differences in empathic concern amongst childrenMany researchers suggest that empathy is influenced by social experiences of a child. It is claimed that the general tendency to empathize is related to environmental factors – family in the first place. Moreover, psychological studies show that empathy is related to the social adjustment of children.Based on these findings the author implemented the research project designed to analyze the link between parents’ empathy and empathic concern displayed by their children (aged 4–9). Additionally, gender differences in empathy were explored amongst children and adults. The study was also aimed at verifying relations between empathy of kindergarten/elementary school children and their behavioral style in a peer group. Results indicate that empathy of mothers parallels their children’s, especially daughters’, tendency to express empathic concern. Mothers scored higher than fathers on two subscales of the Empathy Sensitivity Scale. Girls and boys were seen as similarly empathetic by their teachers. In line with research hypotheses, it was found that children’s empathy is related to the perception of their behaviors. More empathetic children were viewed as cooperative, less aggressive or as maintaining better relation with their teacher.

The paper discusses the issue of functioning of the rural child during the time of the profanum, within the period from the late Middle Ages till the 19th century. The purpose of this text is to attempt to answer the questions: how did peasant children participate in the time of the profanum – understood as a time of non-celebration, and thus working time resulting from the rhythm of nature and the calendar of fieldwork, and the time of play? What did rural children learn during that time? What social and cultural skills did they acquire? The analysis of iconographic, memoir and literary sources serves the historical and pedagogical interpretation.

Opis:
RESEARCH OBJECTIVE: In this article the research objectives are the rights of children deprived of liberty and suspected of having committed crimes in international and regional agreements as well as in Swedish legislations and intended to preserve the child’s dignity. THE RESEARCH PROBLEM AND METHODS: The method applied to study their dignity is, on one hand, in the context of international and regional agreements; on the other hand, in the context of Swedish legislations, which are relevant to these children. THE PROCESS OF ARGUMENTATION: The argument is whether in Sweden children under the age of 15 years deprived of liberty and suspected of having committed crimes are treated in a manner consistent with promoting the child’s sense of dignity during the investigation of the crime. These children are of particular interest as they are more vulnerable than adults in the same situation; the spirit of dignity should therefore be more explicitly expressed for them. RESEARCH RESULTS: The research result confirms that dignity is fundamental for the rights of children as expressed in the studied international and regional agreements and, more specifically, in the CRC Articles 37 and 40. CONCLUSIONS, INNOVATIONS, AND RECOMMENDATIONS: Swedish legislations still need improvements to preserve the dignity of children, particularly regarding the rights of children under the age of 15 deprived of liberty and suspected of having committed crimes.

Children residing on farms with livestock may be at an increased risk for work-related injuries, compared to children who work on other commodity farms. This study characterizes children’s work tasks on Kentucky farms and assesses whether children who work on beef cattle farms are at an increased risk for farm work injuries. The results of a cohort study of children aged 5–18 years (N=999 at baseline) working on family farms in Kentucky, followed for two consecutive years after an initial enumeration five years previously, found that 70% of the children were involved in animal-related chores. Across all age groups, children on beef cattle farms devoted a greater number of hours per week to farm work, compared to children living on other commodity farms, especially during the school year. For all children in the study, working more than 180 days per year, performing farm work independently, and working on a beef cattle farm (compared to other commodity farm), increased the risk of a farm work injury. However, none of these associations were statistically significant. For male children only, the performance of work tasks independently was significantly associated with a 2.4-fold increased risk (OR = 2.41; 95% CI: 1.15–5.06; P=0.02) for a farm work injury, after controlling for days of working, age, period of data collection, and commodity type of the farm.

Opis:
Purpose: One of the main research aims of epidemiological studies is to prove the prevalence of diseases and physiological conditions among people. The results of these studies enable to implement efficient prophylaxis and to plan proper health care management. Information about the prevalence of malocclusions in children and adolescents is a very important aspect of the planning of preventive care in health policy. In addition, evaluation of malocclusion allows for determining current treatment effectiveness and orthodontic treatment need after the completion of free orthodontic treatment under the Polish National Health Fund, which the legislator provided for children up to 13 years of age.Materials and methods: The study included 500 children, aged 13 years (249 girls, 251 boys) from the Podlaskie voivodeship. The study was conducted in nine junior high schools, in a school nursing surgery using basic diagnostic tools (periodontal probe, dental mirror, laryngological spatula). The rules of Polish orthodontic diagnosis by Orlik-Grzybowska were applied in diagnosis of malocclusion. Dental abnormalities were also determined. Results: Malocclusions were found in 57.8% of patients. 34% of children had distal occlusion belonged to the most frequent irregularities, while lingual occlusions (1.6%) was observed the most rarely. Dental abnormalities, including teeth rotations (81.8%) as most frequent were reported in 82.8% of the respondents. Conclusions: The prevalence of malocclusion in 13 - year old school children from the Podlaskie voivodeship is high and indicates the inadequacy of orthodontic health care program. Distal occlusion is the most common malocclusion No significant differences were found between the prevalence of malocclusion and the place of residence.

Opis:
The aim of the paper is to evaluate the perception of violence held by children and adolescents aged 8 to 16 years based on their artworks. 163 children’s drawings submitted from across Poland on "Children against violence." were analyzed. These pictures were analysed according to their contents. The artworks were made using various techniques: torn paper collage, collage, wax scratch, coloring pages, painting using poster paints and watercolors. Drawings have been classified in twelve thematic groups: "aggression against things", "peer violence","violence and addiction", "family violence", "workplace violence", "on-line violence," verbal violence", the continuity of violence", difficult choices" ,and " help ". Children and adolescents are good observers and they see various forms of violence, especially signs of bullying, and the impact of addictions on their development. Children know how to avoid and reduce violence.
