Synthetic and natural polymers blends represent a new brand of materials with application in wound healing, scaffolds or drug delivery systems. Polycaprolactone/gelatin (PCL/Gt) blends were analyzed in terms of their miscibility. The PCL structure was investigated as a function of Gt content. Changes in the PCL spherulitic structure with Gt content were investigated by a polarizing-interference microscope. The analysis of the glass transition temperature (Tg) of both components as a function of PCL/Gt ratio by differential scanning calorimetry indicates that the system of polycaprolactone/gelatin belongs to a type of s.c. compatible system, being intermediate between miscible and immiscible systems. There is possibility of very limited miscibility of both components. Supplementary wide angle X-ray scattering results are presented.

Opis:
The biodegradable blends of chitosan and starch with different component ratios were prepared by casting method. Obtained thin films were UV-irradiated (λ = 254 nm) and changes in chemical structure were monitored using FTIR and UV-Vis spectroscopies. It was found that the chitosanstarch blends were more susceptible to UV irradiation comparing to pure starch specimen. FTIR spectra of blends suggest partial interactions between chitosan and starch macrochains.

The results of experiments on the detection of irradiated component in commercial flavour blends composed of a mixture of non-irradiated spices, herbs and seasonings are presented. A method based on the thermoluminescence measurements on silicate minerals isolated from blends has been adapted. It has been proved that by applying this technique it is possible to detect 0.05% by weight of paprika, irradiated earlier with a dose of 7 kGy, which was a minor component of nonirradiated flavour blends.

For the last three decades, an increasing interest in new materials based on blends of two or more polymers has been observed. Fish skin collagen and chitosan are constantly highly popular among scientists. This study aimed to obtain thin films from mixtures of low and medium molecular weight chitosan with fish collagen in three different ratios and examine their features for potential use in medicine and cosmetic industry. Polymer blends in ratios 25:75, 50:50, and 75:25 were made to obtain thin films. The infrared spectroscopy, mechanical properties study, contact angle measurements, topographic imaging, and swelling test were used to characterize the features of the films. A statistical appraisal of the results was conducted with the Q-Dixon’s test. The infrared spectroscopy analysis showed that in the IR spectra of the examined biomaterials, there are shifts in the bands positions proving intermolecular interactions between collagen and chitosan in the blends. The mechanical properties in the mixtures were different from those of a single biopolymer film. Hydrophilicity and polarity of the blends decrease with the increasing collagen content, which may suggest that the adhesion to the skin will be enhanced. The surface topography of the obtained films varies depending on the ratio of biopolymers in the mixtures. The swelling tests indicated that chitosan absorbs more water than collagen. The properties of the films made of collagen-chitosan mixtures vary depending on the molecular weight of chitosan and the content of each biopolymer in the blend.

Polymerization of dental composites generates shrinkage in the matrix resulting in numerous clinical problems. The influence of the most commonly used resins on the shrinkage process has not been thoroughly examined so far in the literature. The purpose of this work is to determine the effect of the resin mixture compositions on the volumetric polymerization shrinkage. The mixtures used in the tests were pre-pared in specific weight proportions to determine the influence of particular monomers, such as Bis-GMA, Bis-EMA, UDMA, and TEGDMA. The shrinkage measurements were performed using the self-designed video-imaging device. The studies showed that the shrinkage decreased in opposite to the Bis-GMA concentration in the mixture with the simultaneous decrease in the Bis-EMA content. The shrinkage value decreased in opposite to the molecular weight only for some monomers and compositions. Bis-EMA resin as a flexible monomer achieved the lower shrinkage values than UDMA, and the highest shrinkage values, above 6%, were achieved by compositions with the 14wt% content of Bis-GMA. Regarding the shrinkage, the most optimal composition was 56wt% Bis-GMA with the addition of Bis-EMA (24wt%) and TEGDMA (20wt%). The obtained shrinkage value was 4.73%.

The objective of this contribution is to contrastively analyze the currency of words formed by the frac- tolexeme -gate in French and Czech languages. Before presenting the results of our research that relies especially on data derived from the SketchEngine (Czech Web 2017; French Web 2017) corpora, we find it necessary to address theoretical questions to frame the concept of fractocomposition in current linguistic studies. We have borrowed the term fractocomposition from the French linguist Jean-François Sablay- rolles (2019, p. 149), who defines it as a case of compounds “one of whose elements is a fractolexeme,   a fragment of lexie which is valid for the entire lexie”. However, in our discussion we note also other terms that are also used to denote the same concept.

In the present paper evaluates laminated aramidic bi-woven fibers reinforced in polyester-vinylester blended composites. The Duo polymers, polyester-vinylester were blended using in situ polymerization technique. Four planar layers were made simultaneously and keeping one over another and each layer make sure to be weighed off 15% were maintained in all layers with different orientations. Pre-assumed Layer-1(50/50) 50 %, 0º; Layer-2(35/35/30) 35 % 0º, 35 % +45º, 30 %,0; Layer-3 (25/50/25) 25 % 0º, 50% +45º, 25-45º; Layer-4 (25/25/25/25) (2 5% 0º, 25 % +45º, 25 % -45º, 25 % 90º). Tthe composite was prepared with the help of hand layup technique. Test ready specimens were the help of shearing machine in accordance with ASTM. It was observed that, polyester and vinylester had good miscibility makes combined solid material. Flexural strength, tensile strength was improved up to 3ed layer, decreases after, whereas flexural modulus and tensile modulus were linearly increased up to 4th layer. Thermal stability and glass transition temperature were also found satisfactory for all the laminated layers. Chemical resistance was good for the entire chemical except toluene.

A linear triblock copolymer, poly(styrene-b-etylene/butylene-b-styrene)(SEBS) thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) grafted with maleic anhydride was used for compatibilization of PP/PBT blends. PP/PBT blends of different mass ratios 60/40, 50/50, 40/60 were mixed with 2.5, 5.0 and 7.5 wt.% of SEBS copolymer in a twin screw extruder. Differential scanning calorimetry and dynamic mechanical analysis were performed to define the phase structure of PP/PBT blends. TPE with a rubbery mid-block shifted the glass transition of PP/PBT blend towards lower temperatures, and significant decrease the crystallization temperature of a crystalline phase of PP component was observed. The influence of the amount of compatibilizer and the blend composition on the mechanical properties (tensile and flexural strengths, toughness and moduli) was determined. Addition of 5 wt.% of a triblock TPE led to a three-fold increase of PP/PBT toughness. A significant increase of impact properties was observed for all materials compatibilized with the highest amount of SEBS copolymer.

Opis:
The results of physical modification of dibutyrylchitin (DBCH) for the purpose of improvement of its imperfect mechanical properties are presented. Thus, the novel blends of DBCH and biodegradable aliphatic copolymer derived from ε-caprolactone, L-lactide and glycolide (PCLG) in various proportions were prepared and examined. DBCH/PCLG blends with PCLG contents between 6 - 50 wt% were successfully prepared in film form with the thickness in the range of 10 - 500 μm. The morphology of these blend films was studied by means of differential scanning calorimetry and infrared spectroscopy. DBCH was found to be able to form miscible blends with PCLG polyester within the whole composition range studied; revealed that blends were composed of an amorphous homogeneous phase as evidenced by the presence of a single glass transition temperature, that to decrease with increasing PCLG content in materials. Furthermore, physical modification of DBCH with polyester resulted in superior mechanical properties – the blended materials exhibited a much higher toughness and elongation at break as well as a lower value of elasticity modulus.

Blends are traditionally seen as irregular and unsystematic. In this paper it is shown that one must make a distinction between stub compounds or clipped compounds (sitcom, misper) and real blends (brunch, advertorial). In much of the literature on blends, however, stub compounds are classified as blends. Stub compounds appear to be compounds and follow the Compound Stress Rule, whereas blends turn out to form a category of its own. Blends exhibit a right-hand head and insofar they can be compared to compounds. However, their prosodic structure is a copy of the second source word, the word where the final part of the word comes from. The analysis presented here demonstrates that blends consist of one prosodic word, whereas compounds consist of two. This proves that blends are an intermediate category of their own at the intersection of phonology and morphology. The examples discussed mainly come from English. Data from Dutch and German is also presented.

Polymer-polymer interactions and miscibility for chitosan (Ch) and partially hydrolysed polyacrylamide (HPAM) have been investigated using dilute solution viscosity. The intrinsic viscosity, [η], and the viscosity interaction parameters, bm, have been determined for the binary (solvent/polymer) and ternary (solvent/polymer A/polymer B) systems. Degree of miscibility of these polymer mixtures was estimated on the basis of two criteria. The final result depends on (i) the applied extrapolation method used for determination of the interaction parameters, (ii) the assumed miscibility criteria, and (iii) the blend composition.

In the present paper, the results of viscosity measurements in dilute solutions of microcrystalline chitosan (MCCh) with poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) of different degrees of hydrolysis are presented. Microcrystalline chitosan is blended with poly(vinyl alcohol) in aqueous 0.1 MCH3COOH/0.2 M NaCl. Viscosity measurements of dilute polymer solution were carried out in an Ubbelohde capillary viscometer. The final result depends on (I) the thermodynamic goodness of the solvent, on (II) the applied extrapolation method used for determination of the interaction parameters, on (III) the assumed miscibility criteria, on (IV) the degree of hydrolysis of PVA, and on (V) the blend composition.

This study aimed to evaluate the antioxidant properties, α -glucosidase inhibitory activity, and the total content of polyphenols and flavonoids in the selected antidiabetic herbal blends (1-6), used traditionally in diabetes. The strongest antioxidant activity (DPPH and CUPRAC) was observed in extracts from blends 1 and 6 (IC50 <70 μg/ml, IC0,5 <110 μg/ml, respectively). Extracts from these blends also contained most of the polyphenolic compounds (>40 mg GAE/g), had a high content of flavonoids (6 - 10.96 mg QE/g, 1 - 7.51 mg QE/g) and the highest α-glucosidase inhibiting capacity (for 1 >90%, for 6 >90% and 5,55%, while for acarbose 1.76% and 0.93% at the 100 μg/ml and 10 μg/ml, respectively).The antioxidant activity of 1 and 6 correlated with the content of polyphenols and α-glucosidase inhibitory properties and indicates the existence of this mechanism in supporting the treatment of type 2 diabetes and diabetic complications by the above preparations.

In the present study, thin films based on the blends of chitosan (Ch) and hyaluronic acid (HA) with and without collagen (Coll) were characterised using tensile tests, attenuated total reflectance Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Ch/HA and Ch/HA/Coll polymer blends were prepared using the solvent evaporation technique. The interactions between polymer components in the binary and ternary blends were studied by FTIR analysis. Mechanical properties were studied and compared with those of simple polymer films. These results show that the addition of collagen into Ch/HA blends led to the increase of tensile strength and Young modulus. Moreover, it was found that the thermal stability of the Ch/HA binary blend significantly increased upon the addition of collagen.

Aqueous acetic acid, hydrochloric acid, sodium chloride and aqueous acetic acid/NaCl were used as solvents for chitosan, hyaluronic acid and Ch/HA solution blends. Ch, HA and their blend films were prepared by casting technique. The homogeneity and morphology of chitosan blends were ascertained from the tapping-mode atomic force microscopy (AFM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The changes of topography images are considered by determining the root mean square (RMS, Rq) deviation in the image data. The surface roughness of chitosan, hyaluronic acid and Ch/HA blended films was altered by mixing. The structure of chitosan blends with hyaluronic acid depends on the blend composition and on the solvent used for preparing the blend.

In order to improve the properties of their individual components, the compositions of dibutyrylchitin (DBC) and aliphatic polyesters (PCLG) were prepared and examined. The studied systems are homogeneous in a wide range of composition and molar masses of their components. The homogeneities of the blends made it possible to form smooth and transparent films, which were investigated by mechanical testing. It was found that the chemical structure and molar mass of a polyester component had an effect on mechanical properties of the systems. The films were subjected to hydrolytic degradation in media of various pH values (4.0, 7.4 and 13.0) at 37 °C. Furthermore, it was found that the molar mass and composition of the PCLG component clearly affected the rate of hydrolysis of the studied systems. The effect of hydrophilicity of the DBC/PCLG blends on degradation rate was also investigated. Consequently, by an appropriate choice of the components it is possible to control the profile of hydrolytic degradation of the DBC/PCLG systems.

In modern Russian, word blends can be found in fiction, journalism, advertising, as well as in scientific terminology and in everyday language. This study presents the press titles of the daily “Коммерсанть” (from 2020 and 40 issues from 2021; online version) in which lexical blends were used. Structural analysis shows that the dominant role in their construction is played by haplologic blends and blends based on tmesis (“matryoshka” words and quasi-tmesis words). An interesting procedure is the simultaneous transformation of precedent texts (substitution) and the use of word blends. Noun derivatives are most frequently represented in the entire illustrative material. Next to them we also find adjective, verb and adverb blends.

Biodiesels can use as an alternative for diesel. Researchers from around the world tried for many years to find a suitable biodiesel which can substitute diesel. Many biodiesels have been produced from different sources and tested for their performances. Some researchers try to find out a good combination of biodiesel blends which can be used as an alternative of diesel. Some of them try to find out a suitable blend of diesel and biodiesel to reduce the environmental impact and for better emission characteristics. Effects of blending different types of biodiesels with diesel have been investigated by many researchers. In this present review article a summary is written on such attempts.

In the present study, the results of viscosity measurements in dilute solutions of chitosan (Ch) with hyaluronic acid (HA) are presented. Chitosan is blended with hyaluronic acid in aqueous 0.1M CH3COOH/0.2M NaCl and 0.3M NaCl respectively, or with the addition of HEPES. Viscosity measurements of dilute polymer solution were carried out in an Ubbelohde capillary viscometer. The intrinsic viscosity, [], and the viscosity interaction parameters, bm, have been determined for the binary (solvent/polymer) and ternary (solvent/polymer A/polymer B) systems. The homogeneity and morphology of chitosan blends were ascertained from the tapping-mode atomic force microscopy. The surface roughness of chitosan, hyaluronic acid and Ch/HA blended films was altered by mixing. The obtained results suggested that there was existence of the strong interactions between chitosan and hyaluronic acid.

The objective of this paper is to apply a revised model of conceptual integration as proposed by Brandt and Brandt [Brandt and Brandt 2005, 3, 216-249; Brandt 2013] to the analysis of recently coined neologisms expressed in the form of lexical blends. Assuming that lexical blending is one of the most productive word-formation processes [Lehrer 2003, 15, 369-382; Lehrer 2007, 115-133; Gries 2004, 415-428], the question arises whether it should be considered solely for morphological analysis, or rather viewed as a cognitively entrenched phenomenon. The case of Polish Miserikordyna that is to be scrutinized within the course of the proposed analysis opts for the latter, thus giving conceptual blends priority over lexical blends. To prove this, the analysis of the proposed neologism will be carried out with the aid of a six-space model as delineated by Line Brandt and Per Aage Brandt. It is going to be proved that lexical blends involve more than a morphological operation since the process of their creation starts at the conceptual level and is inextricably bound with on-line processing and on-line decoding. Therefore, the Brandt and Brandt model seems an appropriate framework as it may contribute to a more thorough interpretation and ultimate understanding of various instances of such lexical blends.

In the present work, the results of Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and atomic force microscopy (AFM) studies of films of chitosan acetate (ChA), polyacrylamide (PAM), and their mixtures are presented. The morphology of the ChA and PAM films and their mixtures was studied by tappingmode atomic force microscopy (AFM). The topography images were considered by determining the root mean square (RMS) deviation in the image data. The study of mixtures by AFM showed a completely different morphology when compared with pure components. The roughness of mixtures increases with the increase of ChA content but is significantly reduced after UV exposure. This may indicate a strong interaction between the polymeric components. The FTIR spectroscopy also supports the obtained results. The miscibility of polymer mixtures is related to interactions between the functional groups of the polymeric components.

In the present paper, the results of rheological measurements in solutions of chitosan (Ch) with partially hydrolyzed polyacrylamide (HPAM) are presented. Aqueous acetic acid, lactic acid and aqueous acetic acid/NaCl were used as solvents for chitosan, HPAM and Ch/HPAM solution blends. The criterion of miscibility of solution blends, based on the additivity rule of apparent shear viscosity (ηa) has been discussed. The rheological parameters from power law (Ostwald de Waele model) and activation energy of viscous flow (Ea) have been calculated from the flow curves and Arrhenius plots, respectively. It was found that studied polymer solutions exhibited the non-Newtonian behaviour with shear-thinning and/or shear-thickening areas. The final result depends on the thermodynamic goodness of the solvent and on the blend composition.

The properties of the polymer blends depend significantly on the type of the components. That kind of influence is manifested especially in the change of physical properties. The crucial condition for reaching the homogeneity and the properties of a polymer material is its mutual miscibility. Additional agents that make mixing easier are usually applied. They have reactive effect which results in a chemical modification of output polymer along with the change in its chemical structure and the structure of macrochains. In order to achieve this within the confines of the carried research, the polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) and polybond has been used. Some results concerning mechanical properties of polypropylene (PP) and polyamide (PA) blends with the addition of PVP and polybond are presented in the paper. In case of mixing PP with PVP, the hydrophobic interactions occur in the created macromolecules with the participation of the hydrocarbon chains. In case of mixing PA with PVP, the PVP solution in PA is created, with strong intermolecular interactions, including the hydrogen ones. The intermolecular interactions occur and they differently influence parameters of the modified materials in the blends on the basis of such polymers. Therefore the aim of the research was to evaluate the influence of the compatibilizers such as PVP and Polybond 3150 on the dynamic properties of PP/PA blends. The analysis of dynamic proprieties of polymer blends was performed with the Dynamic Mechanical Thermal Analysis (DMTA). The mixing of polymers in different proportions with compatibilizers (PVP, Polybond 3150) results in materials of completely different properties in comparison to the base materials. Detailed results concerning response to sinusoidal load in function of temperature and frequency are presented in the paper.

The surface properties of chitosan acetate (ChA), polyacrylamide (PAM) and ChA/PAM mixtures have been investigated by the tapping-mode atomic force microscopy (AFM) and monitored by contact angle measurements. Chitosan is blended with polyacrylamide in acetic acid solution and this solution is cast to prepare the mixture film. Measurements of the contact angle for two different liquids (diiodomethane and glycerol) on the surface of chitosan acetate. The surface free energy (γs) as well as dispersive (gsd) and polar (gsp) components were calculated from contact angle values by Owens-Wendt methods using an appropriate computer program. The values of polar and dispersive components of surface free energy show that PAM films are more polar than chitosan acetate films. In the case of ChA/PAM mixtures, the values of surface free energy and polar component are reduced significantly compared with pure polymers. This behavior indicates rather hydrophobic character of this surface. The changes of topography images were considered by determining the root mean square (RMS) deviation in the image data. The study of blends by AFM showed a completely different morphology when compared with pure components. The roughness of blends increases with the increase of ChA content. This may indicates a strong interaction between the polymeric components.

In the present paper, the results of thermal analysis (DSC and TGA) and atomic force microscopy studies of microcrystalline chitosan (MCCh) with poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) are presented. Microcrystalline chitosan is blended with poly(vinyl alcohol) in acetic acid solution and this solution is cast to prepare the blend film. From thermal curves the thermal transitions: Tg, Tm and characteristic temperatures of decomposition: Tdi, Tmax have been determined and compared. The influence of the degree of PVA hydrolysis on the thermal properties of blend systems has been discussed. The surface properties of the MCCh and PVA films and their blends have been studied by tapping-mode atomic force microscopy (AFM). The changes of topography images were considered by determining the root mean square (RMS) deviation in the image data. The obtained results suggested that in solid MCCh/PVA mixtures the components are poorly miscible.

Opis:
The effect of the mixing method (normal and ethanol-assisted) on selected properties of natural rubber with butadiene rubber blends (NR/BR 80/20) was investigated. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) were used to evaluate the properties. In addition, the mechanical tensile properties, tear resistance and thermal aging, as well as vulcanization characteristic were determined. It was found that ethanol-assisted mixing can significantly improve the mechanical properties and thermal stability of the blends as a result of better dispersion of additives in the rubber matrix.
Zbadano wpływ metody mieszania (tradycyjna i wspomagana etanolem) na wybrane właściwości mieszanin kauczuku naturalnego z kauczukiem butadienowym (NR/BR 80/20). Do oceny właściwości zastosowano skaningową mikroskopię elektronową (SEM), spektroskopię w podczerwieni z transformacją Fouriera (FTIR) oraz analizę termograwimetryczną (TGA). Ponadto oznaczono właściwości mechaniczne przy rozciąganiu, odporność na rozdzieranie i starzenie termiczne, a także właściwości wulkanizacyjne. Stwierdzono, że mieszanie wspomagane etanolem może znacząco poprawić właściwości mechaniczne i stabilność termiczną mieszanin NR/BR, jako efekt lepszej dyspersji dodatków w osnowie gumowej.

The aim of this work was to characterize cokes optical texture influence of plastic properties of coal blends on degree of cokes optical texture ordering. Three samples of coal blend characterized by different composition and properties were pyrolysed in Karbotest furnace (laboratory scale). To characterize plastic properties of the blends studied, temperatures at the beginning, maximum and at the end of plasticity (t1, tmax and t3, respectively) were determined as well as maximum fluidity Fmax. Texture of resultant cokes was determined by means of optical microscopy. As the result of these studies a set of optical parameters that describe reflectance indicating surface such as maximum, intermediate and minimum reflectance (RMAX, RINT, RMIN respectively) as well as values of Killby’ transformates (Rst, Ram, Rev) were determined for each sample. The optical texture parameters of the cokes were discussed in relationship to plastic properties of coals blends. Correlation between cokes anisotropy and fluidity of initial blends was detected.
Celem niniejszej pracy było scharakteryzowanie tekstury optycznej koksów oraz wpływu właściwości plastycznych wyjściowych mieszanek na parametry opisujące teksturę. Trzy mieszanki węglowe o zróżnicowanym składzie i właściwościach plastycznych zostały skoksowane w instalacji Karbotest. Właściwości plastyczne określono wartościami temperatur: początku, maksimum i końca plastyczności (odpowiednio: t1, tmax and t3) oraz wskaźnikiem maksymalnej plastyczności Fmax. Tekstura tak otrzymanych koksów została zbadana z zastosowaniem mikroskopii optycznej. W wyniku badań określono wartości maksymalnej, pośredniej i minimalnej refleksyjności (odpowiednio: RMAX, RINT, RMIN) oraz wartości parametrów transformacji Killby’ego (Rst, Ram, Rev). Parametry optyczne charakteryzujące teksturę zostały skorelowane z parametrami określającymi właściwości plastyczne. Stwierdzono występowanie zależności pomiędzy anizotropią koksu i maksymalną plastycznością mieszanki wejściowej.

Celem pracy było wytworzenie w procesie wytłaczania, mieszanin polimerowych poli(tereftalanu butylenu) (PBT) i polietylenu o niskiej gęstości (LDPE), z 40% wag. udziałem PBT oraz zbadanie wpływu wybranego, nowego kompatybilizatora (przy udziale 5, 10 i 15% wag.) na ich właściwości mechaniczne i morfologię. Wykazano, że wprowadzony do PBT/LDPE wosk polietylenowy AC395, jako kompatybilizator, poprawia właściwości mechaniczne (wytrzymałość na rozciąganie σ i zginanie σ moduł sprężystości przy rozciąganiu Et, i zginaniu Ef oraz wydłużenie przy zerwaniu ε) w zakresie od 10 do 20%, w porównaniu do niemodyfikowanego układu oraz poprawia jego mieszalność (fotografie struktury SEM). Pozytywny wpływ wosku AC na badane właściwości układu PBT/LDPE, wraz ze zwiększeniem udziału tego dodatku, świadczy o jego kompatybilizującym działaniu na poprawę mieszalności PBT i LDPE.
In our Institute we have studied the relationship between structure and mechanical properties of PBT/LDPE blends (contenting PBT 40 wt %), produced by an extrusion process without and with different kinds (5,10 and 15 wt %) of a new compatibilizer - polyethylene wax (AC395). Addition of compatibilizing agents to PBT/LDPE blends improved all tested mechanical properties (tensile strength σ and flexural strength σ elasticity modulus Et, and flexural modulus Efr longation at break ε) and miscibility of those blends (SEM). Polyethylene wax AC is effective compatybilizer for PBT/LDPE.

Opis:
In the present paper, results from rheological measurements and tensile tests of polymer blends containing chitosan and poly(vinyl alcohol) with different additions of an ionic liquid are presented. Flow measurements were carried out using solutions of pure polymers and their blends with and without the addition of an ionic liquid. It has been observed that the polymer solutions and their blends exhibited non-Newtonian behaviour. Rheological parameters from the power law and activation energy of viscous flow were determined and discussed. Mechanical properties, such as the tensile strength and ultimate percentage of elongation of films, have been determined and compared. This study thus shows that the addition of an ionic liquid is an effective method for improving the flexibility of chitosan blends.

Due to their structural peculiarity and expressiveness, they have been very frequent in Croatian language of commercials and media during the last decade or so. On the basis of corpus collected from Croatian commercials, electronic publications and news portals from 2009 to 2016, the paper analyses the structure of blends, their meanings and their place in the lexical system of Croatian language.

Opis:
Natural polymers, like chitosan, collagen, and alginate, offer promising solutions for wound healing. Derived from natural sources, they exhibit biocompatibility and bioactivity, promoting tissue regeneration. These polymers can form scaffolds or dressings that accelerate wound closure while reducing infection risks. Their inherent properties make them promising options in the quest for effective wound care materials. In this work, composites based on polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), chitosan (Chi), and curcumin (Cur) were prepared. PVA, a synthetic water-soluble polymer, finds extensive use in biomedical and wound-healing applications. It is approved by the U.S. FDA for cosmetic, medical, and wound healing products. Chi, a polysaccharide, is widely used in biomedicine and possesses antibacterial properties. Both PVA and chitosan are biocompatible and exhibit good filming characteristics. Curcumin (Cur) with antibacterial and antioxidant properties is being explored for regenerative medicine. PVA, chitosan, and curcumin were blended. The structure was studied by FTIR, microscopic observations were done with optical and scanning electron microscopes, and the mechanical properties were assessed. FTIR revealed component interactions, while microscopy showed a flat film surface. The polymeric blend (PVA/Chi/Cur) had a Young’s modulus of 1.49 GPa, tensile strength of 47.69 MPa, stress value of 8.39 N, and 35.34% elongation at break. These properties make the blend suitable for consideration in wound healing applications.

Zbadano strukturę oraz właściwości termiczne i mechaniczne mieszanin poli(tlenku fenylenu) (PPO) zwysokoudarowym polistyrenem (HIPS). Stosowano dwa rodzaje PPO: handlowy (PPO-h) oraz otrzymany wInstytucie Chemii Przemysłowej (IChP) wskali wielkolaboratoryjnej, wprocesie polikondensacji utleniającej 2,6-dimetylofenolu, wobecności kompleksu bromku miedzi(II) zmorfoliną jako katalizatorem (PPO-IChP). Wykazano, że mieszaniny PPO/HIPS, niezależnie od rodzaju PPO, są mieszalne wstanie amorficznym, oczym świadczy wystąpienie tylko jednej wartości temperatury zeszklenia oznaczonej metodami różnicowej kalorymetrii skaningowej (DSC) oraz dynamiczno-mechanicznej analizy termicznej (DMTA). Homogeniczność mieszanin potwierdzono również metodą skaningowej mikroskopii elektronowej (SEM). Mieszanina PPO-IChP/HIPS charakteryzowała się znacznie większą udarnością jak iwiększym wydłużeniem względnym przy zerwaniu niż mieszanina PPO-h/HIPS. Rodzaj zastosowanego PPO nie wpływał znacząco na wartość temperatury ugięcia pod obciążeniem (HDT) oraz wytrzymałość na rozciąganie izginanie badanych mieszanin. PPO otrzymany wIChP oraz jego mieszanina zHIPS wporównaniu zPPO-h iPPO-h/HIPS charakteryzowały się nieznacznie większą odpornością termiczną.
The structures and thermal and mechanical properties of poly(phenylene oxide) (PPO) blends with high impact polystyrene (HIPS) were investigated. Two types of PPO were used: commercial one and the other prepared in Industrial Chemistry Research Institute (ICRI) in large laboratory scale process of oxidative polycondensation of 2,6-dimethylphenol, in the presence of complex of copper(II) bromide with morpholine as acatalyst (PPO-IChP). It has been proved that PPO/HIPS blends are miscible in amorphic state, independently on PPO type, because they show the single glass transition temperature, determined by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and dynamic mechanical thermal analysis (DMTA). Homogeneity of the blends was confirmed by scanning electron microscope (SEM) method. The PPO-IChP/HIPS blend showed significantly higher impact strength and relative elongation at break than PPO-h/HIPS one. The type of PPO used did not influence alot heat distortion heat deflection temperature (HDT) as well as tensile or flexural strength of the blends investigated. PPO-IChP and PPO-IChP/HIPS blend showed aslightly better thermal stability than PPO-h and PPO-h/HIPS blend.

Tauron Wydobycie, spółka należąca do Grupy TAURON, prowadzi politykę ograniczania ilości produkowanych odpadów wydobywczych, a docelowo ich całkowite gospodarowanie, prowadzi wysiłki w celu wykorzystania mułów węglowych i odpadów górniczych jako użytecznych produktów. Przeprowadzone badania i wdrożenia przynoszą Południowemu Koncernowi Węglowemu efekty technologiczne, ekologiczne i ekonomiczne. Wiele rozwiązań jest chronionych patentami a niektóre z nich otrzymały międzynarodowe nagrody. Prowadzony odzysk odpadów zmniejszył ich ilość zdeponowanych na składowiskach, a jednocześnie zmniejszyło zużycie surowców pierwotnych a także zwiększyło powierzchnię terenów poddanych rekultywacji i rewitalizacji. Większość prowadzonych procesów odzysku odpadów przyczyniła się do obniżenia kosztów unieszkodliwiania odpadów przy jednoczesnym osiągnięciu zysków ze sprzedaży paliw granulowanych, kruszyw. Ponadto działania te były i są źródłem istotnych efektów ekonomicznych. Uzyskane wyniki stały się możliwe dzięki wdrożeniu przez Spółkę polityki środowiskowej i dobrej współpracy z uczelniami, instytutami badawczymi i ośrodkami technologicznymi oraz dokonały inwestycji. Realizowane projekty inwestycyjne charakteryzowały się okresem spłaty od 8 do 24 miesięcy.
Tauron Mining which is a part of TAURON Group pursues a policy of limiting the quantities of produced extractive waste, and in the future their total management, leads an efforts to process coal slurry and waste rocks into useful products. A carried out studies and implementations bring to Southern Poland Coal Company an intellectual, ecological and economical effects. A number of solutions are protected with patent declarations, and some of them have received international award. A conducted waste recovery reduced their quantity on the mine waste dump and simultaneously decreased the consumption of mineral resources and increased the acreage of objects and areas for recultivation and revitalization. Most of the ongoing recovery processes have contributed to a reduction of the costs of waste disposal while the occurrence of profits from the sale of granulated fuels, aggregates and aggregate binder mixtures. In addition, these activities were and are a source of significant economic effects among users of granulated coal slurry, aggregates and aggregate binder mixtures. Obtained results became possible thanks to the Company’s implementation of environmental policy and good cooperation with universities, research institutes and technology centres and made investments. Existing investment projects were characterized with payback period from 8 to 24 months.

The phase morphology, thermal behavior and mechanical properties of two series of polymer blends based on ethylene/propylene/diene rubber (EPDM) and amorphous homologues of poly(ethylene terephthalate), i.e. glycol modifi ed poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PETG) and poly(ethylene furanoate) (PEF), were investigated. The morphology of the blends shows a two phase structure in which the minor phase (amorphous polyester) is dispersed as domains in the major (EPDM) continuous matrix phase. Differential calorimetry studies confi rmed that both systems were immiscible and exhibits two glass transitions. The melting peak area of EPDM in the blends decreased as the amount of the other component increased. The values of stress at strain of 100% were improved upon the increasing content of PETG in EPDM system, while only slight decrease of this value was observed. Moreover, the strong improvement of hardness and thermo-oxidative stability along with an increasing content of amorphous polyester phase was reported.

The effect of high shear rate on the mechanical properties of polyethylene (PE), poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET), polystyrene (PS), and polypropylene (PP) waste blend was investigated. The process was carried out at a temperature of 120°C using a counter-rotating twin-screw extruder. A constant screw speed of 250 rpm and a constant weight ratio of the PE/PET/PS/PP components of 1:1:1:1 were used. The preliminary research showed that the high shear rate had no effect on the impact strength. However, the significant improvement in the flexural properties was observed as compared to those obtained at a lower screw speed of 80–120 rpm.
Zbadano wpływ szybkości ścinania na właściwości mechaniczne mieszaniny odpadów polietylenu (PE), poli(tereftalanu etylenu) (PET), polistyrenu (PS) i polipropylenu (PP). Proces prowadzono w temperaturze 120°C przy użyciu przeciwbieżnej wytłaczarki dwuślimakowej. Stosowano stałą szybkość obrotową ślimaka 250 min-1 i stały stosunek masowy składników PE/PET/PS/PP 1:1:1:1. Wstępne badania wykazały, że duża szybkość ścinania nie miała wpływu na udarność. Zaobserwowano jednak znaczną poprawę właściwości mechanicznych przy zginaniu w porównaniu z uzyskanymi przy mniejszej prędkości ślimaka 80–120 min-1.

The aim of this work was to evaluate the properties of polymer blends of poly(L-lactide) and poly(L-lactide-co-trimethylene carbonate) 15/85 and to select two compositions to be used to prepare the materials for bone and cartilage tissue engineering. PLLA and PLLATMC as the polymers with significantly different mechanical properties could be used to prepare a wide range of polymer blends. They were investigated by ultimate tensile strength and Young modulus measurements. Considering similar mechanical properties to these types of human tissues PLLA:PLLATMC 80:20 and 30:70 blends have been chosen as appropriate materials for bone and cartilage engineering, respectively. The materials were examined by thermal analysis (thermogravimetry and differential scanning calorimetry), ATR-FTIR spectroscopy and surface analysis (roughness and contact angle measurements). Miscibility of two polymers was discussed. High thermal stability of the blends allow to process them by fused deposition modelling which is one of the most promising methods for the manufacturing of computationally designed scaffolds. Based on the results of thermal analysis at least partial miscibility of PLLA and PLLATMC in the examined blends is indicated. Detailed interpretation of ATR-FTIR spectra let to distinguish the polymers despite their structural similarities. Surface properties of the materials depend on the preparation method and on their form.

Four different compositions of polylactide/thermoplastic starch blends (PLA/TPS blends) for application as drug carriers were examined. Initially, using cyanocobalamin (1.355 kDa) as a model compound, the blend with the highest starch content (wt. 60%) was selected for further research of mass transfer phenomenon. In this case, different concentrations of acetaminophen (0.151 kDa), doxorubicin hydrochloride (0.580 kDa) and cyanocobalamin (1.355 kDa) were used for determination of particular releasing profiles. Besides from the comparative analysis of obtained results, the values of the overall mass transfer coefficient (K) were calculated for each of tested drug molecules. Depending on the size and properties of used compound, determined values of the coefficient range from 10−11  to 10−13  m/s. Based on these outcomes, it could be stated that PLA/TPS blend selected in preliminary research, seems to be preferred material for fabrication of long-term drug delivery systems, which could be successfully applied for example in anti-cancer therapy.

Artykuł przedstawia wyniki oceny procesu przyspieszania wału korbowego silnika o zapłonie samoczynnym zasilanego mieszaninami oleju napędowego (ON) i eteru dietylowego (DEE). W szczególności badano mieszaniny zawierające 5, 10, 15 i 20 % objętościowo DEE w ON. Uzyskane rezultaty badań potwierdziły negatywny wpływ DEE dodawanego do ON na proces przyspieszania silnika AD3.152. Należy jednak zauważyć, że badania wykonano dla nominalnej regulacji aparatury wtryskowej tego silnika. Oznacza to, że nie były optymalne dla badanych mieszanin o odmiennych właściwościach fizykochemicznych w stosunku do ON.
The paper presents results of the crankshaft acceleration process of the diesel engine fuelled with diesel oil - diethyl ether blends. In particular mixtures of diesel fuel with addition of 5, 10, 15 and 20 % by volume were tested. Results confirmed that DEE addition has negative impact on acceleration process of the AD3.152 engine. However it should be pointed that tests were carried out for nominal settings of the engine fuel injection system. It means that these settings were not optimal for tested blends with different physicochemical properties compared to regular diesel fuel.

The article deals with the effects made by using various n-butanol-diesel fuel blends on the combustion history, engine performance and exhaust emissions of a turbocharged four-stroke, four-cylinder, CRDI 1154HP (85 kW) diesel engine. At first, load characteristics were taken when running an engine with normal diesel fuel (DF) to have ‘baseline’ parameters at the two ranges of speed of 1800 and 2500 rpm. Four a fossil diesel (class 1) and normal butanol (n-butanol) fuel blends possessing 1 wt%, 2 wt%, 3 wt%, and 4 wt% (by mass) of n-butanol-bound oxygen fractions were prepared by pouring 4.65 wt% (BD1), 9.30 wt% (BD2), 13.95 wt% (BD3), and 18.65 wt% (BD4) n-butanol to diesel fuel. Then, load characteristics were taken when an engine with n-butanol-oxygenated fuel blends at the same speeds. Analysis of the changes occurred in the autoignition delay, combustion history, the cycle-to-cycle variation, engine efficiency, smoke, and exhaust emissions NOx, CO, THC obtained with purposely designed fuel blends was performed on comparative bases with the corresponding values measured with ‘baseline’ diesel fuel to reveal the potential developing trends.

One of the most important criteria for selecting coal for a given technology are the ash Fusion temperatures (AFTs). An effective way to regulate the AFTs so that they meet the criteria for a given industrial application is to form blends of different coals. The values of the AFTs in the blends are nonadditive, therefore they can't be calculated using the weighted average of the blend components. On the other hand, direct determination of ATFs values requires many additional time-consuming and expensive laboratory tests. Therefore, it is important to develop a solution that, in addition to the effective prediction of the values of AFTs, will also enable optimal selection of components of the blend in terms of its key parameters. The aim of the work was to develop an algorithm for the selection of the optimal coal blends in terms of AFTs for given industrial applications. This algorithm uses nonlinear classifying model which was built using machine learning method, support vector machine (SVM). To carry out the training samples of Polish hard coals from different mines of the Upper Silesian Coal Basin were used. The accuracy of the developed model is 92.3%. The results indicate the effectiveness of the proposed solution, which can find practical application in the form of an expert system used in the coal industry. The paper presents the concept of developed IT tool which has been tested for a selected case.

The paper analyses the distorted data of an electronic nose in recognizing the gasoline bio-based additives. Different tools of data mining, such as the methods of data clustering, principal component analysis, wavelet transformation, support vector machine and random forest of decision trees are applied. A special stress is put on the robustness of signal processing systems to the noise distorting the registered sensor signals. A special denoising procedure based on application of discrete wavelet transformation has been proposed. This procedure enables to reduce the error rate of recognition in a significant way. The numerical results of experiments devoted to the recognition of different blends of gasoline have shown the superiority of support vector machine in a noisy environment of measurement.

Transport is an energy-intensive sector of the economy and it is important where energy comes from and how it is used - now and in the future. The presented research results seem to encourage further work, despite the fact that the work had the character of basic research. The results were achieved in idealized conditions by the fact that the internal combustion engine was tested in static conditions on the test bench and the fuels contained components with strictly defined parameters. These conditions are different from everyday life. However, the obtained results seem to be valuable as they lead to conclusions regarding biofuels, and these conclusions are not directly formulated and published in the literature on the subject. The general conclusion from the research carried out is that the introduction of the so-called biofuels can contribute not to the reduction of CO2 emissions, but to its faster balancing in the environment. This balancing can be achieved but at the cost of increased fuel consumption. This increase in fuel consumption would probably not occur if the "bio" components in the fuel were synthetic hydrocarbons obtained from biomass. However, proving it requires wider studies, including LCA. Data for this LCA, especially about a fuel consumption, may be coming from long term operation of vehicles.

Opis:
Silica having amine functional groups (A-SiO2) obtained by the sol-gel process was used to improve compatibility of polyamide 11 and poly(phenylene oxide) (PA11/PPO 80/20) blend via reactive extrusion in a co-rotating twin screw extruder. Amine functional groups of A-SiO2 can react with the carboxyl groups of PA11 to form graft copolymer with PA11 which can efficiently control the phase morphology of the blend. Silica, thanks to the reinforcing effect, significantly increased stiffness of PA11/PPO blend. On the other hand, it greatly improved impact strength and reduced the crystallinity without affecting the crystallization temperature of PA11due to excellent compatibilizing effect. SEM results showed that despite the lower content of PPO, it formed a continuous phase and PA11 – a dispersed. The addition of A-SiO2 changed the morphology from the droplet-matrix to co-continuous with interpenetrating phases. The greatest size-reduction of both phases, reflecting the highest impact toughness, was observed for the content of 3 wt % A-SiO2. With a higher silica loading, phase inversion was observed with the reappearance of the droplet structure, resulting in a slight decrease in impact strength and significant in elongation at break. TGA showed that the composites exhibited better thermal properties as evidenced by the higher initial degradation temperature (Tonset) and the maximum weight loss rate temperature (Tmax).
Otrzymaną w procesie zol-żel krzemionkę zawierającą aminowe grupy funkcyjne (A-SiO2) zastosowano do poprawy kompatybilności mieszaniny poliamidu 11 z poli(tlenkiem fenylenu) (PA11/ PPO 80/20). Proces prowadzono metodą reaktywnego wytłaczania przy użyciu dwuślimakowej wytłaczarki współbieżnej. Aminowe grupy funkcyjne A-SiO2 mogą reagować z grupami karboksylowymi PA11 i tworzyć kopolimery szczepione z PA11, co może skutecznie kontrolować strukturę mieszaniny. Krzemionka, dzięki efektowi wzmacniającemu, znacznie zwiększyła sztywność mieszaniny PA11/PPO. Natomiast, dzięki doskonałemu efektowi kompatybilizacji poprawiła udarność i zmniejszyła stopień krystaliczności mieszaniny bez wpływu na temperaturę krystalizacji PA11. Wyniki SEM wykazały, że pomimo mniejszego udziału, PPO tworzy fazę ciągłą, a PA11 zdyspergowaną. Dodatek krzemionki zmienił strukturę z kropelkowej na ciągłą z wzajemnie przenikającymi się fazami. Przy zawartości 3% mas. A-SiO2 zaobserwowano największe rozdrobnienie obu faz i najwyższą udarność. Przy większej zawartości A-SiO2 nastąpiła inwersja faz z ponownym pojawieniem się struktury kropelkowej, co skutkowało zmniejszeniem udarności i wydłużenia przy zerwaniu. Badania TGA wykazały, że kompozyty charakteryzują się lepszymi właściwościami termicznymi, o czym świadczy wyższa temperatura początku rozkładu i temperatura maksymalnej szybkości rozkładu.

Samples of experimental tape yarns of different width, linear density, and composition data, i.e. composed from blends of polyolefins, namely polypropylene (PP) with linear lowdensity polyethylene (LLDPE) (1-octene comonomer), and additives were produced on an extruder E10 (Barmag Saurer Co., Germany). The yarns were made from extruded film which was cut into tapes. The various tensile properties of the tape yarns were studied by applying a tensile test. In this study, values of the breaking force, breaking tenacity, elongation at break, work of break, and specific work of break of the tape yarns are presented. According to this study, the tensile behaviour of tape yarns is non uniform in the film width. The influences of the additive, namely of Granic 422 (Granic Co., Spain), on the breaking characteristics of the tape yarns are also discussed. It was found that such characteristics as the linear densities and breaking tenacities were definitely conditioned by variable quantities of the additive, but other breaking characteristics for different tape yarns were almost the same size.
Próbki przędz taśmowych o różnej szerokości, masie liniowej i składzie surowcowym, np. produkowane z mieszanek przędz poliolefinowych takich jak polipropylen (PP) i liniowy polietylenem o niskiej gęstości(LLDPE), zostały wytworzone za pomocą ekstrudera E10 (Barmag Saurer Co.). Przędze wytworzono z foli pociętej na tasiemki. Następnie badano wytrzymałość otrzymanych produktów, określając siłę zrywającą, wytrzymałość na zerwanie, wydłużenie przy zerwaniu, pracę przy zerwaniu i właściwą pracę przy zerwaniu przędz. Stwierdzono, że wytrzymałość tych przędz jest zależna od położenia paska w zależności od szerokości foli. Analizowano również wpływ dodatków w postaci Granic 422 na charakterystyki zrywania przędz. Uzyskane parametry, takie jak masa liniowa i wytrzymałość właściwa są silnie zależne od właściwości dodatków, podczas gdy inne parametry badanych przędz były bardzo zbliżone.

W artykule skupiono się na analizie wskaźnika niepowtarzalności wybranych parametrów spalania w silniku o zapłonie samoczynnym zasilanym olejem napędowym (ON) w mieszaninie z eterem etylo tert-butylowym (EETB). Niezbędne badania wykonano w warunkach swobodnego przyspieszania wału korbowego silnika, nieobciążonego zewnętrznym momentem oporowym. Uzyskane rezultaty wskazują, że EETB dodawany do ON nie ma znaczącego wpływu na zmianę niepowtarzalności procesu spalania w badanym silniku.
The paper is focused on analysis of unrepeatability index of selected combustion parameters in diesel engine fuelled with diesel fuel (DF) blended with ethyl tert-butyl ether (ETBE). Necessary tests were carried out in conditions of free acceleration process of the engine crankshaft without external load. Results showed that ETBE added to DF did not impact significantly on unrepeatability of combustion process in tested engine.

W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badań z zakresu oceny właściwości wytrzymałościowych mieszaniny PP/PS w funkcji temperatury oraz krotności przetwórstwa. Badania przeprowadzono w temperaturze otoczenia oraz w temperaturach 40, 60 oraz 80°C. Zaobserwowano, że właściwości wytrzymałościowe recyrkulowanej mieszaniny PP/PS w oczekiwany sposób zmieniają się w wraz ze zmianą temperatury pomiaru, nie ulegają jednak znacznym zmianom w funkcji krotności przetwórstwa. Results of temperature influence on mechanical properties of multiple recycled polymer blends PP/PS were presented in the paper. Investigations were carried out at ambient temperature and at 40, 60 and 80°C. It was observed that mechanical properties of multiple recycled PP/PS blends changed with the temperature increase according to expectation, but did not change as a function of multiple recycling.

Omówiono metody separacji odpadów tworzyw polimerowych. Zaprezentowano nową metodę rozdziału na podstawie różnicy twardości tworzyw wraz z istotą budowy i działania rozdzielacza igłowego. Przedstawiono wstępne wyniki rozdziału modelowych mieszanin dwuskładnikowych (PVC/TPU i PELD/ABS) uzyskane na prototypowym rozdzielaczu.
Separation methods of waste polymeric materials are discussed. A new method based on the hardness difference of polymeric materials together with the construction and operation of a needle separator is presented. The preliminary results of separation of model binary mixtures (PVC/TPU and PELD/ABS) obtained in the prototype equipment are also shown.
