Opis:
The phosphorus adsorption capacity of soil in the presence and absence of HA and FYM was determined by adding 0, 10, 20, 40, 60, 120, 240 and 360 mg L-1 (initially applied P, IPA) to 5 g soils with and without HA (10 mg kg-1) and FYM (20 g kg-1). The soils along with respective phosphorus solution were taken in duplicates, were shaken on horizontal shaker for 30 hr continuously. The suspension were then filtered through whattman-42 and analyzed for P which represented the equilibrium P concentration (EPC). These soils were then applied another 45 mL distilled water and shaken for 24 hr for desorption study. The study revealed that the soils treated with P+FYM and P+HA significantly decreased the adsorption of Phosphorous at each level of IPA as compared with soil treated with P alone. Furthermore in case of alone P the higher Xad and Kd values attributed towards more P adsorption, at any levels of IPA than the soil which received HA and FYM treatments. Soils treated with P+FYM and P+HA indicated higher desorption of P as well at any IPA than the soil treated with P alone, confirmed that FYM and HA not only reduced P adsorption but also played a vital role in the release of P from soil surfaces into soil solution. Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms models were used in the study, however Freundlich model was found best fit in the present study. Such type of studies should be encouraged at field levels.

Dried humic acid and its aqueous solution in 0.1 M Na2CO3 were gamma-irradiated with 1 90 kGy from 60Co. Thereafter, a secondary ultraweak radiation in the spectral range of gamma = 340 650 nm from aqueous solutions was recorded as long-lived chemiluminescence (CL). Only for absorbed doses lower than 10 kGy low intensity signals of the CL decay were measurable. For absorbed doses higher than 40 kGy residual flat and weak signals are observed. Humic acid irradiated in the dry form did not reveal statistically significant CL. Absorption spectra (gamma = 240 800 nm) of irradiated solutions indicated the occurrence of a dominant degradation process of the humic acid macromolecular components. The effect of H2O2 and CL enhancers (luminol and lucigenin) on the intensity and kinetics of CL proved the participation of reactive oxygen species and the free radical mechanism in the CL and degradation processes. The dose-effect relationship (i.e. gamma-radiation absorbed dose vs. intensity of gamma-radiation-induced CL) showes a non-linear shape, especially in the range of 1-10 kGy, which suggests complex radical mechanisms. A possible ecological significance of the observed phenomena is briefly discussed.

An incubation experiment was carried out in completely randomized design (CRD) at the laboratory of soil and environmental sciences, the university of Agriculture Peshawar, Pakistan to investigate changes in AB-DTPA extractable soil Phosphorous (P) with the addition of Humic acid (HA) and added P levels as single super phosphate (SSP). Two levels of HA including control (H0: control and H1: 500 g ha-1) and four levels of P as single super phosphate (SSP) including control (P0: control, P1: 60 kg ha-1, P2: 90 kg ha-1, and P3: 150 kg hectare) were utilized. Soil treated with different levels of SSP alone or reinforced with HA showed an initial decline in AB-DTPA extractable P in first 14 days and then rapid mineralization up to 56 days of incubation in the laboratory. HA increased mean available P by 44.93, 16.08 and 7.25 % at 0, 60 and 90 kg P205 ha-1. Weekly turnover of P ranged from 0.19 to 0.43 mg P kg-1 soils for soils treated with different levels of SSP alone or reinforced with HA. HA increased weekly turnover by 40 and 8.82 % at 60 and 90 kg P205 ha-1 as SSP respectively. HA applied alone or reinforced with 60 and 90 kg P205 ha-1 increased mean available P, weekly turnover of P as well as mineralization potential.

Acid rain formed first of all from sulphur oxide emitted by natural and anthropogenic sources, may change the biological equilibrium and the metal stoppage in the soil. The model experiments were performed to determine the influence of acid rain on zinc bond with humic acid (HA). The samples were prepared in glass columns with quartz sand and overlaid HA or HA+65Zn radioisotope that simulates natural conditions. Then, solutions of H2SO4 were introduced into the sand HA layer. Zinc was washed with diluted (10 4 10 3 M) sulphuric acid as the simulation of acid rain. The recovery of injected radiotracer ions in eluates was found to depend on pH of simulated acid rain. The results help to evaluate the migration behaviour of zinc in the presence of HA and H2SO4. The model studies illustrate the considerable influence of sulphuric acid on chemical degradation of HA.

A field experiment was carried out at the Experimental Farm of SEKEM Company in Bilbes, Sharqia Governorate, Egypt during the 2019 season, in order to study the effect of adding compost tea and humic acid on the growth and active ingredient of the chive (Allium schoenoprasum L.) plant. Chive seeds were sown in nursery in August, two months later seedlings were transplanted to permanent soil. The chive plants received two organic fertilizers: the first one was compost tea (0, 100 and 200 ml/L) as main plot, and the second one was humic acid (0, 2 and 4 g/L) as sub plot. The two fertilizers were sprayed twice, 45 and 75 days after sowing. The results revealed that: the applied compost tea significantly increased the growth and yield characteristics as well as oil percentage and yield, compared with untreated plants. The plants treated with compost tea at 200 ml / L produced the maximum mean values of plant height, fresh and dry weights of herb, as well as essential oil yield. However, humic acid at 4 g /L recorded the highest mean values of plant height, fresh and dry weights of herb. On the other hand, humic acid at 2 g/L gave the highest values of essential oil yield. Moreover, the interaction treatments had a significant effect on all traits under study. Thirty compounds of Chive essential oil (EO) were identified by GC-MS analysis, representing from 65.07 to 93.29% of the total EO. The main compounds found were dipropyl disulfide (12.8–35.4%), dipropyl trisulfide (12.9–30.05%), methyl propyl trisulfide (3.80–9.03%) and 1-propenyl propyl disulfide (1.56–10%). The highest amounts of dipropyl disulfide and 1-propenyl propyl disulfide were detected with humic acid at 4 g/L treatment. The treatment of compost tea at 200 ml/L + humic acid at 2 g/L caused the greatest accumulation of dipropyl trisulfide which recorded 30.05%, while the greatest values of methyl propyl trisulfide (9.03%) were recorded as a result of tea compost at 100 ml/L.

The young coal mining pits (young pits) found in West Aceh cause many problems. These pits that form ponds have the potential to be utilized for aquaculture activities. However, the main problem faced in the young pits is the high content of heavy metals. This makes the ponds dangerous for fish farming. Hazardous heavy metals in coal mines are Pb and Fe. Humic acid is one of the materials that can be used to minimize heavy metals and increase water pH. The use of humic acid is more efficient because this technology is easy and cheap and the raw materials are abundant. Humic acid acts as a substance of cation exchange ability found in compost. This research has a long-term goal of making humic acid contained in compost as an alternative material that can minimize heavy metals Pb and Fe, so that it can be used for fish farming activities. The specific objective is to determine the best capacity (dose of humic acid) in minimizing heavy metals and increasing the pH of young pond water in former mines and its effect on fish farming. This research method used a completely randomized design consisting of one factor, namely the dose of humic acid (0 g/L, 2.5 g/L, 5 g/L, 7.5 g/L) and three replications. The results showed that humic acid was able to minimize the content of heavy metals Pb and Fe in coal mine water with the best dose of 5 g/L. The percentage reduction produced was more than 90%. The results of fish rearing using ex-mining pond water treated with humic acid showed that the survival rate and growth rate of fish were higher.

Humic and fulvic acids are important materials for the health of the soil. This is related to the capability of humic and fulvic acids as chelating agent for pollutant in soil. The relationship between humic and fulvic acids with that of the soil properties is an important aspect to determine the characteristics of soil. Furthermore, production of humic and fulvic acids is a time-consuming process with several stages. Regarding this problem, the selection of sample size to study humic and fulvic acids is important. The relationship between the soil properties was analysed using the Partial Least Square (PLS) analysis, which is regarded as a solution to solve the analysis of complicated problems by offering a powerful approach. This study aimed to analyse the relationship between humic and fulvic acids, in terms of their mineral and physicochemical properties using the PLS method. The study was carried out in West Java, Indonesia. The results showed that the relationship between the chemical, physical, mineral contents with humic and fulvic acids, affected the negative and positive aspects of the relationship. Humic acids had a weak to good model category (0.269–0.940) with regards to the soil properties, and fulvic acids had a moderate model category (0.495–0.603) against all soil properties. Thus, the PLS method can solve a problem in study relationship between the soil properties with small sample and can help in understanding the soil characteristics in general.

Porous carbons obtained from poly(ethylene terephtalate) contained in a mixture with either MgCO3 or Mg(OH)2 were examined as adsorbents for removal of humic acid from water. Adsorption of the model contaminants is discussed in relation to the textural parameters of the obtained carbon materials. Pore structure parameters of the carbonaceous materials were strongly influenced by preparation conditions including temperature and relative amounts of the inorganics used during preparations as template. Porous carbons prepared revealed a potential to purify water from the model contaminant of high molecular weight. The results presented confirmed a key role of mesoporosity in the adsorption of humic acid. Fluorescence spectroscopy was confirmed to be an useful method to evaluate concentration of humic acid in water.

In this study, activated carbon and humic acid powder were fixed by the cross-linking reaction of sodium alginate. Calcium alginate/activated carbon/humic acid (CAH) tri-system porous fibers were prepared by the wet spinning method and freeze-dried for the removal of tetracycline in aqueous solution. Subsequently, the morphology and structure of CAH fibers were measured by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and the Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) method. The effect of pH, contact time, temperature and other factors on adsorption behavior were analyzed. The Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models were used to fit tetracycline adsorption equilibrium data. The dynamics data were evaluated by the pseudo-second-order model, the pseudo-second-order model and the intraparticle diffusion model. Thermodynamic study confirmed that the adsorption of tetracycline on CAH fibers was a spontaneous process.

pedunculate oak
Opis:
Pedunculate oak is a species of major economic importance in Polish forests. This species seedlings constitute 18.9% of the nursery production in the country. One of the most widespread fungal disease these oaks face is the oak powdery mildew induced by Erysiphe alphitoides. Nursery production is on the lookout for environment−friendly means of plant protection as well as growth simulators capable of raising levels of productivity. Our objectives was to assess two preparation treatments regarded as biostimulators (registered as fertilisers under the names Apol−Humus and Apol−Hum Chelat) in the raising of seedlings of pedunculate oak in bare−root nursery conditions. The experiment included 6 variants with seedlings treated with the above agents, protected against mildew in the traditional way using Falcon 460 EC, treated with fertiliser and fungicide at the same time, or left as control specimens with no measures taken. All preparations were applied by means of foliar spraying 5 times in the course of the season. Survival of seedlings was then assessed at the season end, along with biometric features like root−collar diameter, length of main root and stem, dry mass of leaves and stem, and degree of oak powdery mildew attack. Results indicated curtailment of mildew infection of oak seedlings thanks to both of the biostimulators, albeit to a more limited extent than when fungicide was applied. No stimulation of seedling growth was achieved, however, though the most favourable biometric parameters characterised the oaks supplied with both biostimulator and fungicide. Significantly higher survival rate was noted for oaks offered effective protection against mildew, in the variants with the fungicide or with simultaneous application of Apol−Humus or Apol−Hum Chelat with Falcon. The research points to the two biostimulators under study (based on natural components) being suitable for use in the nursery production of pedunculate oak seedlings, with it being presumed that either or both can allow for reduction in amount of fungicide necessary to be used to safeguard seedlings against mildew.

Opis:
Zachwianie równowagi pomiędzy powstawaniem RFT a działaniem ochronnym systemu antyoksydacyjnego prowadzi do stanu zwanego stresem oksydacyjnym. Badania przeprowadzono w warunkach laboratoryjnych. W materiale roślinnym, który stanowiły rośliny buraka cukrowego, oznaczano aktywność właściwą peroksydazy gwajakolowej (GPOX), stopień peroksydacji lipidów, zawartość chlorofilu a i b.
Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are the byproducts of many metabolic processes and their production is increased under of number of environmental factors. In certain concentration range, the presence of ROS is necessary to maintain proper cell function. Thus, cells have many mechanisms, which role is focused on maintaining a constant concentration of ROS. Imbalance between the formation and action of a protective antioxidant system leads to oxidative stress. Drought is a major limiting factor for plant growth and development. At the same time studies have shown that humic acids foliar application moderated the negative effects of water deficient through activation of the enzymatic antioxidant systems. The aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of humic acid foliar application on the metabolic activity of sugar beet Beta vulgaris L. under drought conditions. Studies were conducted under laboratory conditions. In the plants of sugar beet were determined the specific activity of guaiacol peroxidase (GPOX), lipid peroxidation and chlorophyll a and b content. The results revealed that the humic acid foliar application in plants growing under drought conditions does not increase the specific activity GPOX compared to plants watered regularly. At the same time, found an increase in the degree of lipid peroxidation in these plants. There was no impact of growing conditions on the content of chlorophyll a and b in the studied plants.

Opis:
Adding humic acid to soil can improve soil structure and fertility, which can lead to better plant growth and higher crop yields. Extracting humic acid from compost is a sustainable and environmentally friendly way to obtain a valuable organic material. Humic acid (HA) can be extracted from compost relatively easily and at a low cost, making it an attractive option for farmers. In this study, we investigated the use of sugarcane bagasse (SB) and immature horse manure (IHM) as bulking agents for the composting of separated municipal solid waste (SMSW) and the extraction and characterization of humic acid from the mature composts produced. Fertilizing solutions containing different concentrations of humic acid were prepared and used to evaluate their effects on turnip crop growth and various biochemical parameters during cultivation. The results showed that the humic acid extracted from the composts had high yields and were rich in elemental carbon. The application of humic acid at both low and high concentrations resulted in a significant improvement in all the parameters measured except for the total protein in the roots, which did not differ significantly between the humic acid concentrations. The yield, root diameter and fresh weight increased significantly, and the leaf area was proportional to the humic acid concentration of the solution used. The highest increase in chlorophyll a content was observed in the treatment of humic acid extracted from composts C2 and C3 at a concentration of 0.1 gL-1, with an increase of 31% and 37%, respectively, compared to the control. The use of humic acid provided by co-compost can be considered a successful management strategy for degraded sandy soils and sustainable agriculture production in sandy poor soils worldwide.

Opis:
The study site, 2700 m a.s.l., is located in the central Taiwan. A globally rare combination of the mean temperature (ca. 9.5 °C) and total annual precipitation (ca. 4100 mm) makes studies on pedogenic and edaphic processes of the moist soils in this area worthwhile. The study was undertaken to investigate distribution and characteristics of humic substances in this subalpine forest ecosystem. Fulvic acids comprised a higher total organic carbon fraction (1.8 to 25%) than humic acids (1.1 to 13.4%). Fulvic acids were more mobile and migrated downwards to deeper horizons. Comparatively, humic acids were distributed more in the surface horizons. The hu- mification index, based on E4/E6, showed that humification varied in different horizons even in the same profile. The AlogK and RF values indicate that the types of humic acids extracted from Tsuga forest soil are grouped as P or A types, whereas Rp or B types are in Picea forest soil, suggesting a high degree of humification of humic acids in such soils. Features of the absorption spectra were consistent with the classification of humic acids with A logK and RF values. Humification indices and humic acid types in these subalpine soils indicate that they are similar to acidic soils elsewhere with abundant rainfall and cold climate.

The study presented here concentrates on the characteristics of the humous compounds of humic and fulvic acid fractions of ß-humus, originating from the typologically differentiated soils (podzolic soil and chernozem). The soils were chosen so as to emphasize differences between chemical structure and degree of aromatic nucleus condensation in the humous acids isolated from them. It was found that the structure of the humous substances isolated from the podzolic soil is characterised by the lowest degree of condensation of the aromatic nucleus and the lowest polymerisation, while the humous acids from the chernozem are characterised by the highest degree of condensation of the aromatic nucleus and the strongest polymerisation.

It is necessary to find innovative ways to improve the environmental performance of production processes and products. The technology of extracting valuable components from raw materials of plant origin is often used in technological processes of the food, pharmaceutical, chemical and other industries. Extraction is the most energy intensive step. The factors contributing to the extraction of humic acids from plant substrates under the action of electric discharge were studied. The purpose of the work was to study the efficiency of humic acids extraction from the biosubstrate under the action of electric discharges. The physical experiment showed that the main factor influencing the intensity of extraction is the degree of grinding of the solid phase of the biosubstrate-water suspension. The efficiency of electric discharge grinding depends on the pressure amplitude at the distance of the inner radius of the chamber and the number of discharge pulses. It was established that the number of chemical reagents (alkalis), usually used in the process of extracting humic acids from peat, can be reduced many times due to the appearance of radicals and peroxide compounds in the peat-water suspension resulting from the action of an electric discharge. The prospects of the non-thermal electric discharge method of intensification of the extraction of humic acids from biosubstrates were determined.

The aim of the study was to find the effect of water regimes on soil sorptivity and humic components of organic matter. Physicochemical parameters were also determined. Steady state cumulative infiltration was the highest (60-100 mm) in non-irrigated upland soil and the lowest (8-10 mm) in waterlogged soil. The highest sorptivity of 4.0-4.5mmmin-1/2 was found in nonirrigated upland soil and the lowest in seasonally waterlogged soil (1.0-1.5 mm min-1/2). Organic carbon content of all soils was low (<1%), EC values were also low (< 4 dS m-1). Saturated moisture was high in waterlogged soil. The non-irrigated upland soils had a higher fraction of fulvic acid (0.15-0.2%), due to which they were more capable of infiltration, whereas waterlogged soils had a greater fraction of insoluble humic acid (0.29-0.35%) and exhibited less cumulative infiltration. Sorptivity decreased as the clay content, pH, EC, porosity and humic acid content of the soil increased.

Opis:
Nitrogen is one of the key components of plant production and the nitrogen requirement of the plant supplied either by mineral nitrogen applications or by biological nitrogen fixation. Although the atmosphere contain huge amount of N2, plants are not able to use that as a nitrogen source. Immediately usable forms of nitrogen are nitrate (NO3-) or ammonium (NH4+). The bonds between two nitrogen atoms are quite strong thus, reducing N2 gas to mineral nitrogen forms needs considerable high amount of energy. However, in biological life, microorganisms may convert N2 to mineral nitrogen sources in ambient temperature and pressure; therefore, biological nitrogen fixation is both environmental friendly and sustainable. Industrial nitrogen fixation and mineral fertilization leads both environmental pollution and economic impact. In this research, the effects of humic+fulvic acid (HFA) on nitrogen fixation were evaluated. For this purpose, a pot experiment in controlled environment was carried out. Peanut seeds were sawn in the hole prepared after dual application of HFA doses and rhizobium bacteria. Two times sampling was realized, one in the flowering and the other in harvest time. Results revealed that HFA application was effective on biologic nitrogen fixation; however, increasing HFA doses were adversely influenced determined parameters. Due to the soybean was cultivated as a forecrop at the field where the experimental soil is collected, nodulation was observed even at non-inoculated pots. Nevertheless, the higher values obtained from inoculated plants. Based on the results presented in the paper, HFA was positively effective on a number of parameters evaluated, yet the lower doses should be recommended.

Opis:
Soil organic matter (SOM) is an essential soil constituent. The deficiency of SOM is an essential problem in many regions in Poland. Diversity of organic matter and the environment create varying structures and compositions, and thus differences in properties of humic substances (HS) especially humic acids (HAs). It was found that soil amendment with organic matter resulted in improving of soil and HAs properties compared with non-treatment ones. The results obtained provided the following evidences. With respect to HAs: an increasing content of carboxylic groups in HAs from amended soils; a major content of aromatic ring systems; higher carbon, nitrogen, hydrogen, and sulphur and lower oxygen contents comparing to the control; the addition of straw caused an increase of carbon content in HAs particles and, consequently a decrease of the C:H ratio; higher content of oxygen functional groups compared with non-treated ones. Organic matter from straw is more resistant to fast decomposition as compared to compost and it shows higher long-term sorption capacity. Therefore, straw may be an equivalent to natural sources of SOM in terms of agriculture and ecosystems protection.
W kwasach huminowych z gleb nawożonych stwierdzono większą zawartość węgla, wodoru, azotu i siarki oraz niższą zawartość tlenu w porównaniu do kwasów huminowych z gleb bez dodatku egzogennej materii organicznej. Dodatek słomy spowodował wzrost zawartości węgla w składzie pierwiastkowym kwasów huminowych a w konsekwencji zmniejszenie stosunku C:H.

Influence of humic acids on soil environment is still subject of scientific discussions. The aim of above studies was to investigate the relationships between selected physicochemical properties of eleven peaty-muck soils and properties of humic acids isolated from these soils. The following parameters were determined for soils: total and organic carbon, density, ash, humifi- cation, and the water absorption index. Humic acids were described by: absorbance at 280 nm, absorbance ratios at 465 and 665 nm, at 260 and 665 nm, elemental composition and atomic ratios: H/C, O/H, O/C, C/N, the degree of internal oxidation, and the content of carboxylic and phenolic groups. Statistical analyses showed that an increase in density, humification, and water absorption indices of soils caused a significant increase in the humic acid parameters: absorbance at 280 nm, the oxygen content, O/H, O/C ratios, inter- nal oxidation degree, and functional groups. Statistically signifi- cant negative correlations were found for the same parameters of soils and for the hydrogen and carbon content as well as the H/C ratio of humic acids. The relationships showed that there was a pos- sibility to express the properties of humic acids on the basis of more simple parameters measured for soil and without time-consuming isolation of humic acids.

The object of this study was to determine change of natural buffer capacity of humic acids by strong buffering agents, which were phosphate ions. Studies were carried out on the humic acids extracted from peat soils. Additional information was obtained by determination of water holding capacity, density, ash and pH for peats and optical parameterQ4/6 for humic acids. Humic acid suspensions exhibited the highest buffer properties at low pH and reached maximum at pH ~ 4. Phosphates possessed buffer properties in the pH range from 4.5 to 8.0. The maximum of buffering was at pH~6.8 and increased proportionally with an increase in the concentration of phosphate ions. The study indicated that the presence of phosphate ions may strongly change natural buffer capacity of humic acids by shifting buffering maximum toward higher pH values. Significant correlations were found for the degree of the secondary transformation with both the buffer capacity and the titrant volume used during titration.

The electrical neutralization ability of polyaluminum chlorides (PACls) with respect to humic acid was investigated by the fluorescence quenching method. The Stern–Volmer constant (Kq) at various pH and coagulation doses was determined for polyaluminum chlorides (PACl-B) of various basicities (B, B = [OH]/[Al]). The experimental results show that under acidic conditions, the order of Kqvalues of PACl-B is PACl-2.5 > PACl-2.3 > PACl-1.5 > AlCl3. In solutions of pH = 7, the order of Kqvalues is PACl-1.5 > PACl-2.3 > PACl-2.5 > AlCl3. When pH > 7, aluminum ions are rapidly hydrolyzed, thus PACls of various basicities generally do not show capacity for electrical neutralization with humic acid. At pH = 6, all PACls-B obtain the maximum Kq values, indicating that humic acid and PACl-Bcoagulation process is less affected by H+ or OH ions, and produces the best electrical neutralization ability. Compared to the past method of using surface potential as a means of determining the ability of neutralization of coagulation, the results of this study show that the Kq value of the quenching effect can reduce the experiment complexity.

Humic acid Leonardite IHSS standard was decomposed on TiO2 and TiO2 modifi ed by FeC2O4 via the photocatalysis and photo-Fenton processes under UV irradiation. Humic acid (HA) were favorable adsorbed on TiO2 surface and followed decomposition during UV irradiation faster on TiO2 than on the modifi ed samples. However, when H2O2 was added to the solution, the photo-Fenton process occurred on the prepared TiO2 samples, contained iron together with photocatalysis and high acceleration of HA decomposition was observed. In this case the mineralization degree was much higher than in the applied photocatalysis only, around 75% HA (with concentration of 18 mg/L) was mineralized after 3 h of adsorption and 5 h of UV irradiation in the presence of H2O2 and modifi ed TiO2 whereas on TiO2 mineralisation of HA occurred in around 45% only. The measured fl uorescence spectra of HA solutions showed that in the presence of H2O2 polycyclic aromatics were rapidly oxidized to the lower size products such as alcohols, aldehydes, ketones and carboxylic acids, what accelerated the process of HA decomposition.

In the adsorption experiments, the commercial activated carbon CWZ-30 (Gryfskand Sp. z o.o., Hajnówka, Poland) has been used. Phenol adsorption under equilibrium conditions was determined by the Freundlich isotherm equation, and the modified Freudlich isotherm equation has been employed for the determination of humic acid equilibrium adsorption. The applied oxidation conditions resulted in color, chemical oxygen demand (COD), total organic carbon (TOC) and UV254 absorbance removal, by 4 - 13%, 3 - 6%, 3 - 7%, respectively. After ozonation, phenol concentration decreased by 6 - 23%. These changes in the model solution did not affect the humic acid adsorption, however, they deteriorated phenol adsorption.

Twenty different soils were investigated. The soils varied in their acidification degree, granulometric composition and a carbon content. The investigated soils were collected from arable land, meadows and forests. Humic compounds were extracted from the soil according to the Konowowa and Bielczikova's method. Very high quantitative and qualitative differentiation\was observed. It was related to the soil type and utilisation system. Low but differentiated quantities of humic compounds extracted by 0.05 M H2SO4 were found in the samples of the analysed soils. In the extract of pyrophosphate and sodium base as well as in the extract of sodium base, there were more fulvic acids than humic acids which was reflected in the narrow Ckh:Ckf ratio, particularly in the forest soils. In addition very high proportion of non-hydrolysing carbon was observed. Its content ranged from 52 to 84%. The highest proportion of this fraction was found in the soils agriculturally utilised.

Opis:
This research was conducted to evaluate the effects of water salinity and nano-silica (NS) and humic acid (HA) on Bermuda grass. The study was carried out under greenhouse and exterior space conditions in a completely randomized design with factorial arrangements. Treatments included 4 water salinity levels (0, 5, 7 and 9 dS/m) and 4 level of NS (0, 1, 2 and 3 mm/l) as well as 4 level of HA (0, 50, 100 and 150 mg/l). Results indicated a decrease in chlorophyll content, and increase in proline, malondialdehyde (MDA), catalase (CAT), superoxide dismutase (SOD) and electrolyte leakage (EL) with increasing levels of salinity. The chlorophyll content in greenhouse and exterior space also increased with increasing levels of NS and HA, while proline in two environments, with increasing levels of NS and HA decreased. EL with increasing levels of NS fluctuated, but with increasing levels of HA, it decreased in two environments. With increasing levels of NS, CAT in both environments was eventually decreased after the oscillation, but there was no particular trend in HA levels. With increasing levels of NS and HA, MDA in the greenhouse decreased and in the exterior space – it increased. Finally, by increasing levels of NS and HA, SOD did not show any change in the greenhouse condition, but in the exterior space, the SOD was decreased.

Celem badań było porównanie różniczkowych widm absorpcyjnych związków humusowych występujących w podziemnych wodach mioceńskich z pochodzącymi z torfów leczniczych i węgla brunatnego.
In the examination the differential absorbing spectra of humic compounds present in underground Miocene waters were compared with the spectra originated from therapeutic peat and lignite. From the samples of examined material trough selective extraction were separated humic acids, hymatomelanic acids and fulvonic acids. The spectrograms in the range UV- VIS of those compounds were made. The results of the fourth degree differential were spectra were with well separated peaks for specified wave-length. In spectra obtained from Miocene water and peats were found peaks characteristic for specific frequently common electromagnetic radiation wave-length. In spectra obtained from lignite there were not found peaks characteristic for humic acids.

Opis:
The mechanism of coagulation with highly alkaline polyaluminum chlorides is well understood, but there is a lack of information on the effect of the presence of iron in these coagulants on the efficiency of purifying water with increased contents of natural organic matters among which humic substances are precursors of disinfection by-products. The dissolved forms of organic substances are the most problematic with regard to water treatment because major concern is the formation of disinfection by products resulting from reactions between dissolved organic matter fractions and disinfectants. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of precursors of disinfection by-products removal using highly alkaline polyaluminium chlorides that had different alkalinity and iron content. In the water after the coagulation process a value of SUVA254 was calculated because this indicator correlates well with dissolved organic matter reactivity and disinfection by-products. The analysis of the obtained results showed that the effectiveness of dissolved organic matter removal was determined by the formation of colored iron-organic complexes.

Opis:
The specific chemical structure of humus compounds, the content of functional groups acting as adsorption centres, and the instability of elementary composition cause organic material to be considered as highly complex and difficult to measure, especially in surface studies. In this study the author conducted measurements of the specific surface area of humous acids (humic acid arid ß-humus fulvic acid fraction), employing methods based on adsorption. For the purpose she used a polar adsorbate - water vapour, and an apolar adsorbate - nitrogen. Using low temperature nitrogen adsorption (chromatographic method) she determined the external specific surface area. Specific surface area determinations by means of water vapour were performed by weight, using a vacuum drier to determine the initial fragment of water vapour adsorption isotherms at 20°C and calculating the specific surface area by means of the BET equation. Also, the molar energy of adsorption was determined on the basis of the isotherms at 20 and 40°C. The specific surface area of the humic acids fell within the range of 201-238 m2/g, while that of the ß-humus fulvic acid fraction varied from 319 to 3X5 m2/g. The external specific surface area of the humic acids was about I nr/g, while that of the ß-humus was approximately 34,5 m2/g. The high values of specific surface area measured by means of water vapour on humous preparations and the shape of the isotherms indicate that the effect of water vapour on the material causes the formation of a variable microstructure, while the drying of the organic material (irrespective of the drying method emplyed) results in the disappearance of the microstructure; it appears in a compact and non-porous from, inaccessible for mercury and for appolar adsorbates, which was demonstrated by measurements of nitrogen adsorption and desorption on the materal.

Taking into consideration the fact that there are a small percentage of humic acids in a free state in soils and they join with the mineral part of the soil, the trial of the synthesis of the preparations of humic acids with bentonitc and illitc was experimented. Some physicochcmical properties and their degree of reaction were characterized. The measurements of the surface area were made in the organo-mineral associates. Using the adsorption method of water vapour BET on the basis of the beginning part of the adsorption isotherm in 20 °C. The physico-chemical properties of the associates of illitc and bentonite with humic acids, p-humus with humic acids and p-humus with different pH were presented. The results of surface area and the molar energy adsorption were particularly discusscd. At the beginning, it was thought that the highest degree of reaction of humic acids with minerals should be set when pH equals the pH of the moment when humic acids are precipitated from the liquids as the precipitate. After studying the results something ese was slated, the surface area of illitc after adding the humic acids with all kinds of pH becomes smaller. The falling surface areas of the all combinations of the organo-mineral connections proves the different degree of their reactions and probably the part mineral hydrofobization. It turned out that the degree of reactions of humic acids preparations with mineral depends on pH and it is the highest for all combinations for pH 4.

Opis:
Salinity stress is a serious problem in urban landscape of arid and semi arid regions. To overcome the adverse impact of salinity, the application of organic matter and plant nutrients in the growth media for improving the plant growth is essential. An experiment was conducted in order to determine the response of Salvia splendens to salinity levels and also the role of humic acid in the salt stress alleviation. In the current experiment, five salinity levels (0, 20, 40, 60, and 80 mM NaCl) and three humic acid (0, 100, 500 and 1000 mg/l) treatments were prepared. The effects of these treatments were investigated on some growth parameters, physiological characteristics and also biochemical compounds. The results indicated that the growth parameters decreased in saline-treated than control plants. Different salinity levels significantly affected relative water content, evaporation rate and also electrolyte leakage. Salinity caused the increase in proline, malondialdehyde, sugar content, DPPH, total phenol content and decrease in chlorophyll, compare to the control plants. Application of humic acid on Salvia splendens decreased the leaf area and plant height compared to the control plants. Thus, regarding the growth parameters, it is probable that the effect of humic acid on the biochemical compounds is similar to salinity effect. The findings suggest that sage is an ornamental plant sensitive to salinity and humic acid (in the studied levels) could not alleviate the negative effects of salt stress on this plant.

The use of salt to malt ice has definite effects on the environment. Some of these environmental effects are: soil erosion, environmental pollution, changes in mineral nutrition or general destruction of the physiological processes of plants. This use of salt has a negative impact on roadside vegetation and sustainability. The objective of the presented study was to investigate the effects of fulvic and humic organic acids as well as the calcium on growth and chlorophyll content of seven tree species grown under salt stress. Two year old seedlings of – Acer campestre, Aer platanoides, Acer pseudoplatanus, Acer tataricum ssp. ginnala, Ginkgo biloba, Platanus ×hispanica 'Acerifolia' and Tilia cordata were planted to plastic pots (2 dm3 vol). They were planted outdoors in a growing medium compound which had high sphagnum peat, grainy sand and composted pine bark. Salinity stress was maintained by irrigating plants with tap water containing 3.3 g NaCl/L H2O. Different organic fertilizers were used to redce the risk of nutritional stress caused by salinity. Salinity in the growing medium limited the growth of two maple species and littleleaf linden. In other species such A. campestre, A. tataricum ssp. ginnala, G. biloba there were no significant differences when compared to the control group of plants. Severe leaf damage was observed on A. paltanoides where leaf burning was seen on up to 30%of the leaf blade surface. The response to salinity of other species like A. pseudoplatanus, A. tataricum ssp. ginnala, and T. cordata was less evident. Humic organic acids applied alone to the growing medium improved the growth of all the maple species when compared to the control group. A calcium had the best effect on the growth of all tested trees except A. tataricum ssp. ginnala and G. biloba. The chlorophyll content index (CCI) differed according to the growing medium treatment and the species. The total CCI ranged from 9.62 for the control plants P. ×hispanica 'Acerifolia' to 52.64 for G. biloba which had been treated with a calcium. Application of organic fertilizers to the salt treated growing medium increased the CCI in many species.

Analizowano izotermy adsorpcji pary wodnej oraz wyznaczono wielkości powierzchni właściwej kwasów hu mi nowych i frakcji fu twok wąsów ¡3-humusu. Kwasy humusowe wydzielono z gleby brunatnej kwaśnej, wytworzonej z piasku słabo gliniastego w 4 lata po zastosowaniu osadu ściekowego i wermikompostu w dawkach 30, 150, 600 Mg ha1.
Isotherms of water vapour adsorption were analyzed and specific surface area of humic acids and fractions of P-humus fulvic acids were determined. Humic acids were separated from soil 4 years after using sewage sludge and vcrmicompost in doses of 30, 150, 600 Mg haˉ1. The control was the nonfertilized soil, as well as the soil fertilized with manure in the dose of 30 Mg haˉ1. Humic acids were separated using Schnitzers method, while after their separation, fractions of p-humus fulvic acids were precipitated in the supernatant using Stevensons method. The obtained results indicate that the used waste substanccs had a modifying effect on the magnitude of vapour adsorption by humic acids. In the ease of humic acids it was an increase of adsorption, while tor fractions of β-humus fulvic acids, the adsorption decreased. The specific surface area of P-humus fractions is much greater than the one of humic acids. The decrease of the specific surface area of the analyzed humic acids was influenced most significantly by the dose of 600 Mg haˉ1 of sewage sludge.

Opis:
The quantity and quality of organic carbon were studied in bottom sediments of two small, shallow, polymictic dam reservoirs located in SE Poland: Zalew Zemborzycki (ZZ) and Brody Iłżeckie (BI). Total content of organic carbon (Corg), and its fractions have been determined. The maps of Corg spatial distribution have been compiled. Wide ranges of sedimentary Corg were noted as well as differences between two reservoirs in respect of its content and spatial distribution. The Corg content in the sediments showed a longitudinal zonation pattern in the ZZ and a transverse one in the BI. The composition of sedimentary Corg showed the highest percentage of the insoluble fraction followed by humus acid fraction and the lowest – hemicelluloses fraction. In the humus acid fraction, fulvic acids overbalanced humic acids.

Opis:
The study was conducted on 14 moorsh formations taken from differently secondary transformed peat-moorsh soils. For each sample the amount of soil carbon oxidised during 2 hours with 0,005 M Kmn04 at pH = 2,5-2,6 was measured. Generally the influence of the state of secondary transformation on the amount of soil organic matter susceptibility to oxidation was noticed, especially for strongly and very strongly transformed soils. Moreover, the content of fulvic and humic acids was analysed simultaneously. The best correlation between the fulvic to humic acids ratio and organic carbon susceptibility to chemical oxidation appeared for soils of W1 >0,60

Opis:
In the present work problems related to surface free energy of different agricultural materials such as clay minerals, mineral soils, organic soils and forest litter were considered. Methodical investigations of surface free energy determination as well as fundamental investigations connected with the influence of the surface cations and organic substance on the wettability, free energy and interaction forces between clay minerals and soil particles were undertaken. The interaction forces between clay minerals and soil particles perform a fundamental role in aggregation, flocculation and forming of solids structure. In case of solids the surface free energy can be determined indirectly for example from the measured contact angles or from the adsorption values (by determination of film pressure jt) with appropriate theoretical assumptions. Such methods were applied in this paper to determine surface free energy components for clay minerals and soils. Because of difficulties in contact angle measurements by sessile drop method (especially for organic soils and humus) thin layer wicking or thin column wicking technique were applied. The investigations of penetration rates of water and organic liquids carried out for clay minerals and their mono ionic forms showed the close dependence between the kind of mineral and surface cation. The linear dependence of penetration rates was obtained at the lowest penetration times for bentonite and the highest for kaolin. The kind and properties (e.g. radius of hydrated ions) play in this case an important role. The empiric series of wettability, depending on clay mineral and surface cation were determined experimentally. Similar measurements were performed for clay minerals with increasing additions of humic acid and for different soils. On the basis of the measurements the surface free energy components apolar and polar (electron-acceptor and electron-donor) were calculated and correlated with the kind of clay mineral, surface cation and humic acid content. The investigations for soils show that the penetration times depend on the soil samples. Contact angle values for investigated samples were also calculated. From the water vapour adsorption measurements on the surfaces of modified clay minerals and soils the water film pressure values were calculated for one or three monolayers and compared with the work of adhesion and immersion. For soil materials surface free energy had real influence on structure formation or its changes. The organic matter and surface cations had an important role in creation of soil structure.
