Opis:
A state observer is a system that models a real system in order to provide an estimate of the internal state of the system. The design techniques and comparison of four different types of state observers are presented in this paper. The considered observers include Luenberger observer, Kalman observer, unknown input observer and sliding mode observer. The application of these observers to a Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) DC servo motor model and the performance of observers is assessed. In order to evaluate the effectiveness of these schemes, the simulated results on the position of DC servo motor in terms of residuals including white noise disturbance and additive faults are compared.

A new structure to design observers for linear systems is presented in this work. The key step is the construction of two layers where the first consists of multiple observers and the second connects them providing the weighted estimation state. The main difficulty is to find a new feedback which is responsible for control weights. To define observation law, we rely on multi observers from the first layer. The proposed structure significantly improves the transient characteristics of the observation process, which is shown in illustrative examples.

We investigated observer metamerism under a variety of viewing conditions, in a set of color-matching experiments using displays and printed color samples under specific light sources. A selection was made of light sources with different illuminances, spectral power distributions, and correlated color temperatures, as well as displays with different sets of primaries. A panel of 157 observers with normal color vision and ages between 20 and 59 years old performed 5465 visual color matches around 9 different color centers. The results from the simulated and real experiments were quite different. Specifically, the mean color difference from the mean changed with experimental viewing conditions, ranging from 0.73 to 1.64 CIELAB units (average 0.99 CIELAB units) in simulated experiments, and from 3.12 to 4.03 CIELAB units (average 3.55 CIELAB units) in real experiments. In real experiments, observers’ variability reduced for light sources with high illuminance and high correlated color temperature. Spectral power distributions affected observer metamerism, but the role played by the primaries of the two displays employed was unclear.

This paper deals with an observer design for a p-cell chopper. The goal is to reduce drastically the number of sensors in such system by using an observer in order to estimate all the capacitor voltages. Furthermore, considering an instantaneous model of a p-cell chopper, an interconnected observer is designed in order to estimate the capacitor voltages. This is realized by using only the load current measurement. Simulation results are given in order to illustrate the performance of such observer. To demonstrate the validity of our approach, experimental results based on Digital Signal Processor (DSP) are presented.

This paper deals with the problem of stabilization by an estimated state feedback for a family of nonlinear time-delay Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy parameterized systems. The delay is supposed to be constant where the parameter-dependent controls laws are used to compensate the nonlinearities which are formulated in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). Based on the Lyapunov-Krasovskii functionals, global exponential stability of the closed-loop systems is achieved. The controller and observer gains are able to be separately designed even in the presence of modeling uncertainty and state delay. Finally, a numerical example is given to show the applicability of the main result.

Fault input channels represent a major challenge for observer design for fault estimation. Most works in this field assume that faults enter in such a way that the transfer functions between these faults and a number of measured outputs are strictly positive real (SPR), that is, the observer matching condition is satisfied. This paper presents a systematic approach to adaptive observer design for joint estimation of the state and faults when the SPR requirement is not verified. The proposed method deals with a class of Lipschitz nonlinear systems subjected to piecewise constant multiplicative faults. The novelty of the proposed approach is that it uses a rank condition similar to the observer matching condition to construct the adaptation law used to obtain fault estimates. The problem of finding the adaptive observer matrices is formulated as a Linear Matrix Inequality (LMI) optimization problem. The proposed scheme is tested on the nonlinear model of a single link flexible joint robot system.

Criteria for gain selection of the observer are described, classical ones based on poles, as well as additional, increasing observer’s robustness. Fulfilment of the presented criteria can be ensured with the three proposed methods for gain selection, two analytical, based on dyadic transformation and one based on optimization.

Opis:
A large class of nonlinear systems can be represented or well approximated by Takagi-Sugeno (TS) fuzzy models, which in theory can approximate a general nonlinear system to an arbitrary degree of accuracy. The TS fuzzy model consists of a fuzzy rule base. The rule antecedents partition a given subspace of the model variables into fuzzy regions, while the consequent of each rule is usually a linear or affine model, valid locally in the corresponding region. In this paper, the observer design problem for a T-S fuzzy system subject to Lypschitz perturbation is investigated. First, an observer of Kalman type is designed to estimate the unknown system states. Then, the class of one-sided Lipschitz for a TS fuzzy system subject to a sufficient condition on the bound is studied. The challenges are discussed and some analysis oriented tools are provided. An example is given to show the applicability of the main result.

Industrial systems serve us in all areas of life. Faults may result in economic loss and wasting energy. Detecting the onset of faults, and determining their location are important engineering tasks. An important class of fault detection (FD) and diagnosis methods utilizes the mathematical model of the monitored system. But, the parameters required for mathematical modelling are limited or unavailable for the most real industrial engineering applications. Observer-based FD is one of the main approaches to FD and identification. At the same time, the traditional observer’s gain calculation required system model parameters. So, this article presents the design of a novel observer for FD purposes using the input–output measurements of the system with unknown parameters. This proposed observer’s design considers observer’s gain tuning, regardless of the mathematical representation of the plant. This the new feature that distinction our observer will facilitate the implementation of FD systems for many unknown parameters industrial systems. The effectiveness of the proposed observer is verified by experimental application to BLDC motor and compared with classical Luenberger observer. The experimental and comparison results prove feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed observer for FD purposes.

MPC Driven control systems very often are requiring the introduction of a mechanism predicting the state of the object unavailable for measurements. Depending on the case, a different number of state variables will be unobtainable. Widely used systems to obtain essential data of the condition of an object are Luenberger state observer and different types of Kalman filters. The authors propose a new method of Luenberger observer synthesis based on Luenberger gain optimization using performance index corresponding to generalized system performance. The developed method allows us to obtain better-performing observer from the point of view of the adopted criterion, compared to similar estimators derived from the Sylvester equation and classic Kalman filters, even despite the occurrence of disturbances. The developed method will be presented on an example of an active suspension system with MPC.

The paper discusses the problem of stability of a proportional-integral Luenberger observer, designated for the state variables reconstruction of a linear, time-invariant dynamical system. It is proven, that there exists such a class of observed systems, for which the observer is always unstable, independently of its gains. Stability can be provided in every possible case after application of proposed modifications to the structure of the observer. It is proven, that stability of the modified observer depends only on its gains. It is shown, that an induction motor is the exemplary observed system, for which application of the unmodified observer is impossible due to its lack of stability, while the modified observer provides proper operation of the control system. Finally, some experimental results are presented, obtained in the multiscalar control system of the induction motor, equipped with the modified proportional-integral observer.

Conventional boost converters are widely used for connecting low-voltage power sources and inverters in motor control. However, a large filter capacitor bank is often used to reduce DC-link ripples that occur when an inverter is connected to a boost converter. Otherwise, significant voltage and current perturbations can impact on battery performance degradation and cause torque ripple, speed ripple and vibration in brushless DC (BLDC) motors. To suppress the converter’s DC-link ripple, this paper proposes a new control strategy for boost converter controller to generate low-ripple DC-link voltage or current at different motor speeds. In the proposed method, observers are designed to adaptively estimate the DC-link voltage and current harmonics. The harmonic terms are used as feedback signals to calculate the DC converter’s duty cycle. The entire control model is implemented on an embedded system, and its robustness is verified by simulation and experimental results that show the DC-link voltage and current ripples can be reduced by about 50% and 30%, respectively.

: The dual perspective model of agency and communion predicts that observers tend to interpret a target’s behavior more in terms of communion than agency, whereas actors interpret their behavior more in terms of agency. The present research for the first time tests this model in real interactions. Previously unacquainted participants had a short conversation and afterwards rated their own behavior (actor perspective) and their interaction partner’s behavior (observer perspective) in terms of agency(self-confident, assertive) and communion(trustworthy, empathic). Supporting the dual perspective model, observers rated the actor’s behavior higher on communion than on agency, and higher on communion than actors themselves did. Findings for actors were more complex: Actors rated their own behavior as more agentic than observers did. However, they also rated their behavior high on communion. We discuss implications for the dual perspective model as well as for (mis)understandings in social interactions.

The present paper is mainly aimed at introducing a novel notion of stability of nonlinear time-delay systems called Rational Stability. According to the Lyapunov-type, various sufficient conditions for rational stability are reached. Under delay dependent conditions, we suggest a nonlinear time-delay observer to estimate the system states, a state feedback controller and the observer-based controller rational stability is provided. Moreover, global rational stability using output feedback is given. Finally, the study presents simulation findings to show the feasibility of the suggested strategy.

In particular, it is proven that for the given linear time-invariant system of order n, having p linearly independent out- puts and m inputs, a Luenberger observer of order (n − p) can be constructed if and only if the given system is detectable. Further- more, a procedure is given for the construction of the observer. Our approach is based on the properties of real and polynomial matrices.

This paper proposes a methodology for observer-based fault estimation of leader-following linear multi-agent systems subject to actuator faults. First, a proportional-integral distributed fault estimation observer is developed to estimate both actuator faults and states of each follower agent by considering directed and undirected graph topologies. Second, based on the proposed quadratic Lyapunov equation, sufficient conditions for the asymptotic convergence of the observer are obtained as a set of linear matrix inequalities. Finally, a numerical example is provided to illustrate the proposed approach.

In the paper, the exact state observers will be presented. The state estimators and observers can be used in technical processes for many purposes like the fault detection and diagnosis, the implementation of the state controllers, and soft reconstruction of inaccessible for measurements variables of the system. As the standard, for continuous systems the differential estimators of Kalman filter or Luenberger type observer are commonly used. However, if the initial conditions of the real state are unknown, both estimators guarantee only an asymptotic quality of the real state tracking. The paper presents another type of the state observers, which for continuous system have the structure given by two integral operators. Based on measurements of the system input and output signals on some predefined finite time interval T, they can reconstruct the initial state exactly. In on-line version, the exact state reconstruction is performed continuously for every t, based on special procedure executed within two moving windows of width T, on sliding time interval [t-T, t].

A robust observer is further shown to overcome the problem of using velocity sensors that may degrade the system performance. The proposed controller uses only position measurements and is capable of disturbance rejection in the presence of unknown bounded disturbances without requiring the knowledge of its bound. Moreover, we propose an accurate and fast time integration method to solve the dynamic equations of the mobile manipulator system. The simulation results of a 6 D.O.F. mobile manipulator illustrate the effectiveness of the presented algorithm.

Unlike in the classical regime, the measurement performed on a quantum system perturbs the state of the system and its properties remain unknown between measurements. Several early interpretations of quantum mechanics suggested that the reduction of the wave vector that occurs in a measurement is effected by a conscious act of an observer. For example, London and Bauer fostered the conviction that it is the act of observation that decides on the fate of the Schrodinger cat. Later developments of quantum mechanical formalism, e.g., decoherence, indicated that there was no need to causally link the mental states of an observer with the purely physical process of a quantum measurement. In particular, the novel quantum models of human brain put forward by Roger Penrose suggest that it is the reduction of the wave vector that causes conscious act of the observer. Although this reversal does not clarify the specifics of the quantum measurement process directly, it illustrates the principle of methodological naturalism whereby externally introduced heuristic postulates are replaced by well justified scientific explanations.

The model predictive current control (MPCC) of the permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) is highly dependent on motor parameters, and a parameter mismatch will cause the system performance degradation. Therefore, a strategy based on an internal model control (IMC) observer is proposed to correct the mismatch parameters. Firstly, based on the MPCC strategy of the PMSM, according to the dynamic model of the PMSM in a rotating orthogonal coordinate system, -axis and -axis current IMC observers are designed, and the stability derivation is carried out. It is proved that the observer can estimate -axis and -axis disturbance components caused by a parameter mismatch without static error. Then, the estimated disturbance component is compensated for by the reference voltage prediction expression. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed strategy is verified in two different conditions. The experimental results show that the proposed control strategy can effectively compensate for the parameter mismatch disturbance in MPCC for PMSM, improve the dynamic and static performance of the system, and improve the robustness of the system. voltage prediction expression.

An important application of state estimation is feedback control: an estimate of the state (typically the mean estimate) is used as input to a state-feedback controller. This scheme is known as observer based control, and it is a common way of designing an output-feedback controller (i. e. a controller that does not have access to perfect state measurements). In this paper, under the fact that both the estimator dynamics and the state feedback dynamics are stable we propose a separation principle for Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy control systems with Lipschitz nonlinearities. The considered nonlinearities are Lipschitz or meets an integrability condition which have no influence on the LMI to prove the stability of the associated closed-loop system. Furthermore, we give an example to ullistrate the applicability of the main result.

In the paper an overview of state estimators and state observers used in linear systems, will be presented. The state estimators and observers can be used in many applications like the state reconstruction for the control purposes or for the diagnosis and fault detection in technical processes or for the virtual measurements of inaccessible variables of the system as well as for the best filtration of the differential equation solution. As the standard most commonly the Kalman filter and Luenberger type observers are used. Although the Kalman filter guarantees optimal filtering quality of the state, reconstructed from the noisy measurements, both Kalman filter and the Luenberger observer guarantee only asymptotic quality of the real state changes and tracking, basing on the current measurements of the system output and input signals. Unfortunately, the value of the estimation error at any moment of time cannot be calculated. The discussion on differences between continuous and two types of discrete Kalman Filter will be presented. This paper is planned to be the introduction to presentation of another type of the state observers which have the structure given by the integral operators. Based on measurements of the system output and input signals on some predefined finite time interval, they can reconstruct, after this interval, the observed state exactly.

The exponential stability of this observer is studied using Lyapunov theory and the convergence conditions are solved with Linear Matrix Inequalities (LMIs). Finally a numerical example is simulated, and results are given to validate the offered approach.

Two alternative outer position control loop designs both of which respect prescribed dynamics and settling time of position have been developed. The former system prescribes also time constant of the speed control loop while the latter one respects time constant of speed control system developed independently. To enhance the tracking abilities of both control systems the dynamic lag pre-compensator has been included. Case studies of the both position control systems for time near-optimal control and energy near-optimal control have been presented. The tracking performances of the designed control systems were assessed based on comparisons of the experimental responses with the simulated responses of the ideal closed-loop system.

The paper discusses a new institution in the Polish electoral law – namely, non-partisan citizen election observers. This institution, next to scrutineers and international election observers known previously to the Polish electoral system, is intended as another instrument of social control of the electoral process, increasing reliability and fairness of elections. This new institution was introduced by the Act of 11 January 2018 on amendments to some acts in order to increase participation of citizens in the processes of election and functioning and controlling of certain public bodies. The analysis performed allows to conclude that final evaluation of the role played by non-partisan election observers will be heavily influenced by observation of how this institution is used in actual elections, at least over one full electoral cycle.
Artykuł stanowi omówienie nowej instytucji polskiego prawa wyborczego, jaką są społeczni obserwatorzy wyborów. Instytucja ta, obok znanych polskiemu prawu wyborczemu mężów zaufania oraz międzynarodowych obserwatorów wyborów, stanowić ma kolejny instrument społecznej kontroli procesu wyborczego, wpływając tym samym na zwiększenie rzetelności i uczciwości wyborów. Instytucja ta została wprowadzona ustawą z dnia 11 stycznia 2018 r. o zmianie niektórych ustaw w celu zwiększenia udziału obywateli w procesie wybierania, funkcjonowania i kontrolowania niektórych organów publicznych. Dokonana analiza pozwala na stwierdzenie, że na ocenę społecznych obserwatorów wyborów duży wpływ będzie miała jednak praktyka, na którą potrzebny jest ich udział przynajmniej w pełnym cyklu wyborczym.

The aim of the work is to analyze the status, tasks and powers of entities implementing social control of the electoral process after the changes introduced by the Act of 26 January 2023 amending the Act – Electoral Code. The analysis of the adopted solutions allows us to conclude that most of the changes will concern the position of men of trust, i.e. entities related to election committees, and not entities observing the elections in an impartial manner. According to the new regulations, the position of men of trust will be strengthened in relation to independent social and international observers. The question is whether such a direction of changes is aimed at ensuring the transparency and fairness of the electoral process, or whether it is determined by political considerations. The study uses the formal and legal method to examine changes in the legal position of election observers and the empirical method to verify the potential effects of the adopted solutions.
Opis:
This paper proposes two methods for nonlinear observer design which are based on a partial nonlinear observer canonical form (POCF). Observability and integrability existence conditions for the new POCF are weaker than the well-established nonlinear observer canonical form (OCF), which achieves exact error linearization. The proposed observers provide the global asymptotic stability of error dynamics assuming that a global Lipschitz and detectability-like condition holds. Examples illustrate the advantages of the approach relative to the existing nonlinear observer design methods. The advantages of the proposed method include a relatively simple design procedure which can be broadly applied.

The observer converges exponentially and leads to good estimate as well as a good track of the steel ball position with the reference trajectory. In this paper, we propose sensorless backstepping control of a double-star induction machine (DSIM). First, the backstepping approach is designed to steer the flux and speed variables to their references and to compensate uncertainties. Lyapunov”s theory is used and it demonstrates that the dynamic tracking of trajectories tracking is asymptotically stable. Second, unfortunately, this law control called sophisticated is a major problem which leads to the necessity of using a mechanical sensor (speed, load torque). This imposes an additional cost and increases the complexity of the montage. In practice, this variable is unknown and its measurement is expensive. To restrain this problem we estimate speed and load torque by using a Luenberger observer (LO). Simulation results are provided to illustrate the performance of the proposed approach in high and low variable speeds and load torque disturbance.

Opis:
Induction motors (IMs) experience power losses when a portion of the input power is converted to heat instead of driving the load. The combined effect of copper losses, core losses, and mechanical losses results in IM power losses. Unfortunately, the core losses in the motor, which have a considerable impact on its energy efficiency, are not taken into account by the generally employed dynamic model in the majority of the studies. Due to this, the motor rating often corresponds to the worst-case load in applications, but the motor frequently operates below rated conditions. A hybridized model reference adaptive system (MRAS) with sliding mode control (SMC) is used in this study for sensorless speed control of an induction motor with core loss, allowing the motor to operate under a variety of load conditions. As a result, the machine can run at maximum efficiency while carrying its rated load. By adjusting the -axis current in the reference frame in vector-controlled drives, the system’s performance is enhanced by running the motor at its optimum flux. Regarding the torque and speed of both induction motors with and without core loss, the Adaptive Observer Sliding Mode Control (AOSMC) has been constructed and simulated in this case. The AOSMC with core loss produced good performance when the proposed controller was tested.

Opis:
This article compares two sensorless control algorithms for a permanent magnet synchronous machine (PMSM) based on the back-EMF sliding mode observer (SMO). Indirect SMO (I-SMO) treats the back-EMF voltages as a disturbance. Direct SMO (D-SMO) considers back-EMF voltages as state-space variables. The same phase-locked loop (PLL) is used for both observers for extraction of the rotor position and speed values from the observed back-EMF voltages. In a sensorless control, the observed speed is used as feedback for the PI controller, and the observed position is used in the Park transformations. Both observers have been implemented and tested with standard field-oriented control. Simulation results indicate rather comparable speed and position estimation precision for both, but the D-SMO indicates slightly higher precision in steady-state. Even more, a tuning procedure of the D-SMO is more straightforward when compared to the I-SMO. Thus, the D-SMO was further verified experimentally with the OP 5600 rapid prototyping device and with a 350 W PMSM drive. Experimental results of the D-SMO are included at the end of the paper.

An estimation of measured variables is very important in dynamic positioning systems of the vessels. There is required to a filtering of the signal environmental noise and the measurements noises to get high-precision estimate of the vessel’s position. The dynamic positioning systems uses a different algorithms for estimating and filtering measured signals. More suitable algorithms of estimating and filtering, allows to obtain an accurate control of the vessel’s position at sea, in seaports and near oil rigs. It improve safety level and decrease fuel consumption. That is the reason why many evaluations and investigations of estimation parameter. The goal of research, described in the paper is which of estimator is most suitable estimation of the vessel’s position. In this paper used three estimator to compare which of this estimation give the better solution in different tasks in dynamic positioning system. To comparison filters in this paper used simulation where the vessel has been used to different tasks. Ship model simulates the signal from the GPS receiver with disturbances and provides information about the force generated by the propellers. These values was used to estimation position of vessel. Studies have shown that PF is a better estimator than NO by tracking the position of a time-varying but the opposite is true for estimating the position of the invariant over time.

This paper presents some design approaches to hybrid control systems combining conventional control techniques with fuzzy logic and neural networks. Such a mixed implementation leads to a more effective control design with improved system performance and robustness. While conventional control allows different design objectives such as steady state and transient characteristics of the closed loop system to be specified, fuzzy logic and neural networks are integrated to overcome the problems with uncertainties in the plant parameters and structure encountered in the classical model-based design. Induction motors are characterised by complex, highly non-linear and time-varying dynamics and inaccessibility of some states and outputs for measurements, and hence can be considered as a challenging engineering problem. The advent of vector control techniques has partially solved induction motor control problems, because they are sensitive to drive parameter variations and performance may deteriorate if conventional controllers are used. Fuzzy logic and neural network-based controllers are considered as potential candidates for such an application. Three control approaches are developed and applied to adjust the speed of the drive system. The first control design combines the variable structure theory with the fuzzy logic concept. In the second approach neural networks are used in an internal model control structure. Finally, a fuzzy state feedback controller is developed based on the pole placement technique. A simulation study of these methods is presented. The effectiveness of these controllers is demonstrated for different operating conditions of the drive system.

Stability analysis based on Lyapunov theory is performed in order to guarantee the closed loop stability. Simulation tests under load disturbance and stator resistance variation are provided to evaluate the consistency and performance of the proposed control technique in the low and high speeds.

The design of an interval observer for estimation of unmeasured state variables with application to drinking water distribution systems is described. In particular, the design process of such an observer is considered for estimation of the water quality described by the concentration of free chlorine. The interval observer is derived to produce the robust interval bounds on the estimated water quality state variables. The stability and robustness of the interval observer are investigated under uncertainty in system dynamics, inputs, initial conditions and measurement errors. The bounds on the estimated variables are generated by solving two systems of first-order ordinary differential equations. For that reason, despite a large scale of the systems, the numerical efficiency is sufficient for the on-line monitoring of the water quality. Finally, in order to validate the performance of the observer, it is applied to the model of a real water distribution network.

We propose a new observer where the model, decomposed in generalized canonical form of regulation described by Fliess, is dissociated from the part assuring error correction. The obtained stable exact estimates give direct access to state variables in the form of successive derivatives. The dynamic response of the observer converges exponentially, as long as the nonlinearities are locally of Lipschitz type. In this case, we demonstrate that a quadratic Lyapunov function provides a number of inequalities which guarantee at least local stability. A synthesis of gains is proposed, independent of the observation time scale. Simulations of a Düffing system and a Lorenz strange attractor illustrate theoretical developments.

The paper concerns the problem of gains selection of extended speed observer for induction machines. Equations of the observer as well as equations of the dynamics of estimation errors have been presented. Dynamic properties and stability of the observer depend on proper gains selection. The analyzed observer requires an adjustment of 12 gains. Furthermore, the complexity of linearized equations of the error estimation dynamics makes an analytical solution approach for the problem of gains selection impossible. A method based on evolutionary algorithm has been proposed in order to counteract this problem, where a cost function based on poles placement of the observer has been presented. Defined cost function ensures stability of the observer as well as good dynamic properties. The main goal is a transient time reduction of the observer which ensures a proper damping properties in order to avoid the presence of estimation errors oscillations during transient states. Three different rotor speed ranges are considered with separate observer gains set. A series of gains selection attempts have been conducted for every presented speed range. The final results presents and discusses the cost function values in the last generation of evolutionary algorithm.

This paper presents a robust control technique for small-scale unmanned helicopters to track predefined trajectories (velocities and heading) in the presence of bounded external disturbances. The controller design is based on the linearized state-space model of the helicopter. The multivariable dynamics of the helicopter is divided into two subsystems, longitudinallateral and heading-heave dynamics respectively. There is no strong coupling between these two subsystems and independent controllers are designed for each subsystem. The external disturbances and model mismatch in the longitudinal-lateral subsystem are present in all (matched and mismatched) channels. This model mismatch and external disturbances are estimated as lumped disturbances using extended disturbance observer and an extended disturbance observer based sliding mode controller is designed for it to counter the effect of these disturbances. In the case of heading-heave subsystem, external disturbances and model mismatch only occur in matched channels so a second order sliding mode controller is designed for it as it is insensitive to matched uncertainties. The control performance is successfully tested in Simulink.

Opis:
This paper proposes a design procedure for observer-based controllers of discrete-time switched systems, in the presence of state’s time-delay, nonlinear terms, arbitrary switching signals, and affine parametric uncertainties. The proposed switched observer and the state-feedback controller are designed simultaneously using a set of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs).The stability analysis is performed based on an appropriate Lyapunov–Krasovskii functional with one switched expression, and in the meantime, the sufficient conditions for observer-based stabilization are developed. These conditions are formulated in the form of a feasibility test of a proposed bilinear matrix inequality (BMI) which is a non-convex problem. To make the problem easy to solve, the BMI is transformed into a set of LMIs using the singular value decomposition of output matrices. An important advantage of the proposed method is that the established sufficient conditions depend only on the upper bound of uncertain parameters. Furthermore, in the proposed method, an admissible upper bound for unknown nonlinear terms of the switched system may be calculated using a simple search algorithm. Finally, the efficiency of the proposed controller and the validity of the theoretical results are illustrated through a simulation example.

Opis:
This paper describes a robust set-membership-based Fault Detection and Isolation (FDI) technique for a particular class of nonlinear systems, the so-called flat systems. The proposed strategy consists in checking if the expected input value belongs to an estimated feasible set computed using the system model and the derivatives of the measured output vector. The output derivatives are computed using a numerical differentiator. The set-membership estimator design for the input vector takes into account the measurement noise thereby making the consistency test robust. The performances of the proposed strategy are illustrated through a three-tank system simulation affected by actuator faults.

We propose a new type of Proportional Integral (PI) state observer for a class of nonlinear systems in continuous time which ensures an asymptotic stable convergence of the state estimates. Approximations of non-linearity are not necessary to obtain such results, but the functions must be, at least locally, of the Lipschitz type. The obtained state variables are exact and robust against noise. Naslin’s damping criterion permits synthesizing gains in an algebraically simple and efficient way. Both the speed and damping of the observer response are controlled in this way. Model simulations based on a Sprott strange attractor are discussed as an example.

In this paper we investigate the local stabilizability of single-input nonlinear affine systems by means of an estimated state feedback law given by a bilinear observer. The associated bilinear approximating system is assumed to be observable for any input and stabilizable by a homogeneous feedback law of degree zero. Furthermore, we discuss the case of planar systems which admit bad inputs (i.e. the ones that make bilinear systems unobservable). A separation principle for such systems is given.

A novel decoupled Multi-Input-Multi-Output Model Free Control strategy is presented in this paper to improve the performance of an active suspension system implemented on a half car model. To damp vibrations generated by road excitation, an algebraic online compensator was integrated in the structure of a classical PID controller to avoid the impact of unpredictable disturbances. The key element of the proposed technique is a non-asymptotic observer that can avoid the use of statistical conventional techniques. Furthermore, the advantage of easy implementation is achieved where only two accelerometers are sufficient and adequate. A comparison with classical PID and LQR is provided to demonstrate the improvement made by the proposed scheme.

Jakkolwiek wstyd jest uczuciem, którego chcielibyśmy w miarę możliwości uniknąć, pełni on niezwykle ważną rolę w naszym życiu moralnym.
This article seeks to analyze the category of shame, leaving aside some specific areas of human activity attendant upon shame. It seems that the problem of shame is most often found in the area of human sexuality, a fact that impoverishes the category of shame. I treat moral shame as an existential category, which means that it is directly connected with the internal discernment of the person that is ashamed. Understood in such a manner, it is impossible to persuade a person to be ashamed; even the social and cultural contexts that identify concrete types of misbehavior as shameful turn out to be insufficient. We are ashamed when we ourselves believe that a particular situation should not have taken place. Meanwhile, when we tell someone “you should be ashamed,” it will bring about no effect if the person we are reprimanding does not think in the same way. Shame indeed is an emotion we would like to avoid, if possible, nevertheless it plays an extremely important role in our moral lives.

Opis:
In this paper, a rotor current fault monitoring method is proposed based on a sliding mode observer. Firstly, the state-space model of the Double-Fed Induction Generator (DFIG) is constructed by vector transformation. Meanwhile, the stator voltage orientation vector control method is applied to decouple a stator and rotor currents, so as to obtain the correlation between the stator and rotor current. Furthermore, the mathematical model of stator voltage orientation is obtained. Then a state sliding mode observer (SMO) is established for the output current of the rotor of the DFIG. The stability and reachability of the system in a limited time is proved. Finally, the system state is determined by the residuals of the measured and estimated rotor currents. The simulation results show that the method proposed in this paper can effectively monitor the status: a normal state, voltage drop faults, short-circuit faults between windings, and rotor current sensor faults which have the advantages of fast response, high stability.

Propofol infusion in anesthesia administration requires continual adjustment in the manual infusion system to regulate the hypnosis level. Hypnotic level is based on Bispectral Index Monitor (BIS) showing the cortical activity of the brain scaled between 0 to 100. The new challenging aspect of automation in anaesthesia is to estimate the concentration of hypnotic drugs in different compartments of the body including primary, rapid peripheral (muscle), slow peripheral (bones, fat) and effect site (brain) compartment based on Pharmacokinetics (PK) and Pharmacodynamics (PD) model. This paper aimed to regulate the hypnosis level with estimating the Propofol concentrations using a linear observer in feedback control strategy based on Integral Super-Twisting Sliding Mode Controller (ISTSMC). The drug concentration in plasma of the silico patients accurately estimated in nominal transient. The results show that tracking errors between the actual output in form of BIS level and linearized output nearly approaches to zero in the maintenance phase of anesthesia to ensure the controller response on sliding phase with optimum performances by achieving desired hypnotic level 50 on BIS. The robustness of control strategy is further ensured by adding measurement noise of electromagnetic environment of operation theatre distracting signal quality index of the output BIS level.

Accurate knowledge of the rotor speed and flux position is the key factor in obtaining a high-performance and high-efficiency induction-motor drive. Thus a sliding mode observer design is presented. Seventy-two papers were reviewed, 38 of which proposed a new or modified observation grid. The observation variables identified were broken down into 7 categories as follows: posture, exertion, load handled, work environment, use of feet, use of hands, and activities or tasks performed. The review revealed the variability of existing procedures. The examination of methodological issues showed that observation data can be reliable and can present an adequate internal validity. However, little information about the conditions necessary to achieve good reliability was available.

Range estimation has been discussed in the literature using nonlinear observers with full homogeneous observations derived from the image plane. In this paper, the same range identification problem is discussed with a single homogeneous observation using nonlinear observers. Our simulation results verify the convergence of the observers when their observability conditions are satisfied.

The paper deals with the problems of robust fault detection using analytical methods (observers and unknown input observers) and soft computing techniques (neural networks, neuro-fuzzy networks and genetic programming). The model-based approach to Fault Detection and Isolation (FDI) is considered. In particular, observers for non-linear Lipschitz systems and extended unknown input observers are discussed. In the case of soft computing techniques, the main objective is to show how to employ the bounded-error approach to determine the uncertainty of the GMDH and neuro-fuzzy networks. It is shown that based on soft computing models uncertainty defined as a confidence range for the model output, adaptive thresholds can be defined. The final part of the paper presents two illustrative examples that confirm the effectiveness of the unknown input observers and the neuro-fuzzy networks approaches.

This paper is concerned with observer design for nonlinear systems that are modeled by T–S fuzzy systems containing parametric and nonparametric uncertainties. Unlike most Sugeno models, the proposed method contains nonlinear functions in the consequent part of the fuzzy IF-THEN rules. This will allow modeling a wider class of systems with smaller modelling errors. The consequent part of each rule contains a linear part plus a nonlinear term, which has an incremental quadratic constraint. This constraint relaxes the conservativeness introduced by other regular constraints for nonlinearities such as the Lipschitz conditions. To further reduce the conservativeness, a nonlinear injection term is added to the observer dynamics. Simulation examples show the effectiveness of the proposed method compared with the existing techniques reported in well-established journals.

In this paper, the state estimation problem for a class of mismatched uncertain time-delay systems is addressed. The estimation uses observer-based control techniques. The mismatched uncertain time-delay systems investigated in this study include mismatched parameter uncertainties in the state matrix and in the delayed state matrix. First, based on a new lemma with appropriately choosing Lyapunov functional, new results for stabilization of mismatched uncertain time-delay systems are provided on the basis of a linear matrix inequality (LMI) framework and the asymptotic convergence properties for the estimation error is ensured. Second, the control and observer gains are given from single LMI feasible solution which can overcome the drawback of the bilinear matrix inequalities approach often reported in the literature. Finally, a numerical example is used to demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed method.

The paper is devoted to the problem of increasing the efficiency of underwater vehicles by using a fault diagnosis system for their thrusters which provides detection, isolation, and identification of minor faults. To address the problem, a two-stage method is proposed. At the first stage, a bank of diagnostic observers is designed to detect and isolate the emerging faults. Each observer in this bank is constructed to be sensitive to some set of faults and insensitive to others. At the second stage, additional observers working in sliding mode are synthesized in order to accurately estimate the error value in the signal obtained from the angular velocity sensor and to estimate deviations of the thruster parameters from their nominal values due to the faults. In contrast to the existing solutions, reduced-order (i.e., lower-dimensional) models of the original system are proposed as a basis to construct sliding mode observers. This approach permits reduction of the complexity of the obtained observers in comparison with the known methods, where full-order observers are constructed. The simulation results show the efficiency and high quality of all synthesized observers. In all cases considered, it was possible to detect typical faults, as well as estimate their values.

Opis:
In this paper, a novel dynamic surface sliding mode control (DSSMC) method, combined with a lateral velocity tracking differentiator (LVTD), is proposed for the cooperative formation control of underactuated unmanned surface vehicles (USVs) exposed to complex marine environment disturbances. Firstly, in view of the kinematic and dynamic models of USVs and the design idea of a virtual control law in a backstepping approach, the trajectory tracking control problem of USVs’ cooperative formation is transformed into a stabilisation problem of the virtual control law of longitudinal and lateral velocities. Then, aiming at the problem of differential explosion caused by repeated derivation in the process of backstepping design, the first-order low-pass filter about the virtual longitudinal velocity and intermediate state quantity of position is constructed to replace differential calculations during the design of the control law, respectively. In order to reduce the steady-state error when stabilising the virtual lateral velocity control law, the integral term is introduced into the design of the sliding mode surface with a lateral velocity error, and then the second-order sliding mode surface with an integral is structured. In addition, due to the problem of controller oscillation and the role of the tracking differentiator (TD) in active disturbance rejection control (ADRC), the LVTD is designed to smooth the state quantity of lateral velocity. Subsequently, based on the dynamic model of USV under complex marine environment disturbances, the nonlinear disturbance observer is designed to observe the disturbances and compensate the control law. Finally, the whole cooperative formation system is proved to be uniformly and ultimately bounded, according to the Lyapunov stability theory, and the stability and validity of the method is also verified by the simulation results.

The main purpose of my paper is to consider a problem of justice in a context of health care. The John Rawls’ theory is my point of methodological departure. He states in it the importance of the concept of fairness and equality from behind what he terms a “veil of ignorance”. Rawls refers to the “original position” in which a person is attempting to determine a fair arrangement for society without any preconceived notions or prejudices. I refer, however, his theory to the health care field and I consider such problems as fair distribution of medical care or fair partition of taxes for personal insurance. Further problems appear there in consequence, e.g. who has the privilege to attain the medical help as a first and the resulting doctor’s ethical dilemmas.

Opis:
Design of a state observer is an important issue in control systems and signal processing. It is well known that it is difficult to obtain the desired properties of state feedback control if some or all of the system states cannot be directly measured. Moreover, the existence of a lumped perturbation and/or a time delay usually reduces the system performance or even produces an instability in the closed-loop system. Therefore, in this paper, a new Variable Structure Observer (VSO) is proposed for a class of uncertain systems subjected to a time varying delay and a lumped perturbation. Based on the strictly positive real concept, the stability of the equivalent error system is verified. Based on the generalized matrix inverse approach, the global reaching condition of the sliding mode of the error system is guaranteed. Also, the proposed variable structure observer will be shown to possess the invariance property in relation to the lumped perturbation, as the traditional variable structure controller does. Furthermore, two illustrative examples with a series of computer simulation studies are given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed design method.

Induction machines have of late become the most popular workhorses in the industry replacing DC machines because of their advantages, such as reduced cost, reliability and the absence of commutators, which make them adapt to unfavourable conditions with lower maintenance requirement. However, higher-order models of AC machines, nonlinearities in model equations, uncertainties in parameters and load disturbances make induction motors difficult to control than that of DC motors. In this paper, a robust control strategy considering the recent advances in technology is proposed employing input-output feedback linearization for the exact decoupling of electromagnetic torque and rotor flux using fractional-order sliding mode controller (SMC) for the outer speed loop. The sliding mode observer is also designed to extract the rotor flux from the DC input voltage of the inverter and stator current measurements. Finally, a comparison between the commonly used proportional integral and derivative (PID) controller and the proposed fractional-order SMCs is made and the conclusion is reached.

The problem of fault detection and isolation in a class of nonlinear systems having a Hamiltonian representation is considered. In particular, a model of a planar vertical take-off and landing aircraft with sensor and actuator faults is studied. A Hamiltonian representation is derived from an Euler–Lagrange representation of the system model considered. In this form, nonlinear decoupling is applied in order to obtain subsystems with (as much as possible) specific fault sensitivity properties. The resulting decoupled subsystem is represented as a Hamiltonian system and observer-based residual generators are designed. The results are presented through simulations to show the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

This paper combines methods for the structural analysis of bipartite graphs with observer-based residual generation. The analysis of bipartite structure graphs leads to over-determined subsets of equations within a system model, which make it possible to compute residuals for fault detection. In observer-based diagnosis, by contrast, an observability analysis finds observable subsystems, for which residuals can be generated by state observers. This paper reveals a fundamental relationship between these two graph-theoretic approaches to diagnosability analysis and shows that for linear systems the structurally over-determined set of model equations equals the output connected part of the system. Moreover, a condition is proved which allows us to verify structural observability of a system by means of the corresponding bipartite graph. An important consequence of this result is a comprehensive approach to fault detection systems, which starts with finding the over-determined part of a given system by means of a bipartite structure graph and continues with designing an observer-based residual generator for the fault-detectable subsystem found in the first step.

In this paper, we associate field-oriented control with a powerful nonlinear robust flux observer for an induction motor to show the improvement made by this observer compared with the open-loop and classical estimator used in this type of control. We implement this design strategy through an extension of a special class of nonlinear multivariable systems satisfying some regularity assumptions. We show by an extensive study that this observer is completely satisfactory at low and nominal speeds and it is not sensitive to disturbances and parametric errors. It is robust to changes in load torque, rotational speed and rotor resistance. The method achieves a good performance with only one easier gain tuning obtained from an algebraic Lyapunov equation. Finally, we present results and simulations with concluding remarks on the advantages and perspectives for the observer proposed with the field-oriented control.

Opis:
Agatha Christie (1890–1976), less known as lady Mallowan, an outstanding author, mainly of detective novels, published “Murder in Orient Express” in 1933/34. From the very beginning, the book was considered a masterpiece of this genre. The reason for that is not only brilliantly constructed plot with astonishing culminating point, but also the fact that the author of the book referred to an authentic event which evoked great emotions. The event that inspired this novel was kidnapping and murder of the little son of a known and admired American pioneer of intercontinental flights, Charles August Lindbergh, that happened in 1932. The novel was translated into almost all languages. There were also numerous stage adaptations. At least four films were based on this novel which indicates the cultural significance of the work. The subject of the considerations in the present paper is an attempt to search for the answer about the role of the so-called observer in the process of reconstruction, retransmission and assimilation of thematic threads, which can become the reference point not only for the author of the literary work. They may become an element of collective memory and, in this way, the element of culture constituting narration. However, as an object of general knowledge, they are at the same time subjected to common interpretation. The Heisenberg’s uncertainty principle, referred to in its basic range in quantum mechanics, indicates the significant role of the subject observing in this process. Heisenberg proved that the presence of an observer is not neutral from the point of view of the quality of the results. Referring to these considerations on the text as a cultural object, let us analyse the ways in which the theme was modified and the significance of these changes. We consider Agatha Christie’s novel and especially its screen adaptations an interesting object of research. The observer, as it turns out, is beside the researcher also the author of the literary text, screenwriter, translator…

In order to improve the accuracy and robustness of path following control for an Unmanned Surface Vehicle (USV) suffering from unknown and complex disturbances, a variable speed curve path following a control method based on an extended state observer was proposed. Firstly, the effect of the environmental disturbances on the USV is equivalent to an unknown and time-varying sideslip angle, and the sideslip angle is estimated by using the extended state observer (ESO) and compensated in the Line of Sight (LOS) guidance law. Secondly, based on the traditional LOS guidance law, the design of the surge velocity guidance law is added to enable the USV to self-adjust the surge velocity according to the curvature of the curve path, thus further improving the tracking accuracy. Finally, the heading and speed controller of the USV is designed by using a sliding mode control to track the desired heading and speed accurately, and then the path following control of the USV’s curve path is realised. Simulation results verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Opis:
This paper proposes a novel linear quadratic regulator (LQR) weight selection algorithm by synthesizing the algebraic Riccati equation (ARE) with the Lagrange multiplier method for command following applications of a 2 degree of freedom (DoF) torsion system. The optimal performance of LQR greatly depends on the elements of weighting matrices Q and R. However, normally these weighting matrices are chosen by a trial and error approach which is not only time consuming but cumbersome. Hence, to address this issue, blending the design criteria in time domain with the ARE, we put forward an algebraic weight selection algorithm, which makes the LQR design both simple and modular. Moreover, to estimate the velocity of a servo angle, a high gain observer (HGO) is designed and integrated with the LQR control scheme. The efficacy of the proposed control scheme is tested on a benchmark 2 DoF torsion system for a trajectory tracking application. Both the steady state and dynamic characteristics of the proposed controller are assessed. The experimental results accentuate that the proposed HGO based LQR scheme can guarantee the system to attain the design requirements with minimal vibrations and tracking errors.

Opis:
Vehicles involved in platoon formation may experience difficulties in obtaining full-state information that can be exchanged and used for controller synthesis. Therefore, a distributed controller based on a model reference and designed utilizing a cooperative observer is proposed for vehicle platoon synchronization. The proposed controller is composed of three main blocks, namely, the reference model, the cooperative observer and the main controller. The reference model is developed by using a homogeneous vehicle platoon that utilizes cooperative full-state information. The cooperative observer is a state estimator which is constructed based on the cooperative output estimation error. It provides state estimates to be used by the main controller. The main controller is constructed from a nominal control and a synchronization input. The nominal control has the main task of tracking the lead vehicle, while in order to reduce the synchronization error, the synchronization input is added by utilizing the cooperative disagreement error. Stability analysis is focused on the vehicle platoon when it is subjected to completely periodical intermittent information. The condition on the information rate is derived for guaranteeing the synchronization of the platoon. Numerical simulation of a vehicle platoon consisting of one leader and five followers is used to examine the performance of the controller.

Automation of earth moving machineries is a widely studied problem. This paper focusses on one of the main challenges in automation of the earth moving industry, estimation of loading torque acting on the machinery. Loading torque acting on the excavation machinery is a very significant aspect in terms of both machine and operator safety. In this study, a disturbance observer-assisted control system for the estimation of loading torque acting on a robotic backhoe during excavation process is presented. The proposed observer does not use any acceleration measurements, rather, is proposed as a function of joint velocity. Numerical simulations are performed to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme in tracking the reaction torques for a given dig cycle. Co-simulation experiments demonstrate robust performance and accurate tracking of the proposed control in both disturbance torque and position tracking. Further, the performance and sensitivity of the proposed control are also analyzed through the help of performance error quantifiers, the root-mean-square (RMS) values of the position and disturbance tracking errors.

The proposed fault reconstruction and estimation design method with H∞ performance is used to reconstruct both actuator and sensor faults when the latter are transformed into pseudo-actuator faults by introducing a simple filter. The main contribution is to develop a sliding mode observer (SMO) with two discontinuous terms to solve the problem of simultaneous faults. Sufficient stability conditions in terms linear matrix inequalities are achieved to guarantee the stability of the state estimation error. The observer gains are obtained by solving a convex multiobjective optimization problem. Simulation examples are given to illustrate the performance of the proposed observer.

This paper develops a mathematical framework for the infinite-dimensional Sylvester equation both in the differential and the algebraic form. It uses the implemented semigroup concept as the main mathematical tool. This concept may be found in the literature on evolution equations occurring in mathematics and physics and is rather unknown in systems and control theories. But it is just systems and control theory where Sylvester equations widely appear, and for this reason we intend to give a mathematically rigorous introduction to the subject which is tailored to researchers and postgraduate students working on systems and control. This goal motivates the assumptions under which the results are developed. As an important example of applications we study the problem of designing an asymptotic state observer for a linear infinite dimensional control system with a bounded input operator and an unbounded output operator.

Opis:
Artykuł przedstawia obserwator ze sprzężeniem zwrotnym. Zaprezentowano obserwator prędkości kątowej bazujący na sterowaniu ślizgowym. Omówiono wpływ parametrów obserwatora na uzyskiwaną jakość regulacji prędkości. Omówiono metody eliminacji zjawiska chatteringu - filtr dolnoprzepustowy, zastąpienie funkcji sign przez sat (nasycenie). Przedstawiono wyniki badań symulacyjnych.
The article presents the closed-loop observer. The observer of the angular velocity based on the sliding mode con-trol is shown. The influence of the observer parameters on velocity control quality is talked over. The elimination of the chattering phenomenon is discussed - low-pass filter and replacement of the function sign by sat (saturation). Simulation results are presented.

Opis:
The paper describes full-order observer for a two-mass electric drive with a flexible shaft. The following state variables: the load machine speed, load torque (disturbance) and torsional torque are estimated. Optimization of the observer is based on the LQ problem. The selection of Q matrix in a performance index is determined by observability condition for LQ problem. This approach leads to minimal nonzero elements in the weight matrix. The Bode diagrams for designed observers are shown and analyzed. The experimental results confirm the usefulness of presented method in the industrial applications.
Oznacza to konieczność odtworzenia tych sygnałów. Charakterystyki Bodego prezentowanych obserwatorów zostały przedstawione i przeanalizowane. Wyniki eksperymentalne potwierdzają przydatność metody w zastosowaniach przemysłowych.
