In this study, we have investigated structure and impurities of six different salts which have a great importance in our everyday life, namely source salt, Himalayan salt, rock salt, sea salt, lake salt and reduced sodium salt (minsalt) by means of different analytical methods, namely X-ray powder diffraction, scanning electron microscope-energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, inductive coupling plasma optic emission spectroscopy, X-ray fluorescence spectrometer and the Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. With the light of obtained results, suitability and performance of the different analytical methods were discussed in some details.

Multicollinearity
Opis:
Multicollinearity often occurs in regression analysis. Multicollinearity is a condition of correlation between independent variables which is a problem. One method that can overcome multicollinearity is the LASSO (Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator) method. LASSO is able to help to shrink multicollinearity and improve the accuracy of linear regression models. Estimators of LASSO parameters can be solved by the LARS (Least Angle Regression and Shrinkage) algorithm by algorithm which calculates the correlation vector, the largest absolute correlation value, equiangular vector, inner product vector, and determines the LARS algorithm limiter for LASSO. Selecting the best model using the Mallow’s C_p statistics. The smallest Mallow’s C_p value will be selected as the best model. LASSO method with a more detailed procedure with LARS algorithm and selecting the best model using the Mallow’s C_p statistics is discussed in this paper.

Opis:
This paper presents conditions of forming products from titanium sheets by means of rubber stamping method. After introducing the issues connected with these elements manufacturing for aviation industry, considering standards and legal regulations, technological problems occurring during forming deep stiffening ribs. The results in the characteristic curvatures and distortion in the final products were generated in the process heterogeneous internal stress state. The Authors aimed at explaining and presenting of solutions limiting occurrence of chosen shape faults, which disqualify these products application in aviation industry. The proposed solutions significantly reduced the incidence of these unfavorable phenomena. The modified method of rubber stamping of firewall from titanium alloy CP-2 sheet was successfully implemented in manufacturing conditions of PZL Swidnik.

Opis:
A thorough experimental and numerical analysis of phase transformations in a selected CP800 steel was the general objective of the paper. Dilatometric tests were performed for a wide range of cooling rates. Two models based on a mean field approach were considered. The first was an upgrade of the Johnson-Mehl-Avrami-Kolmogorov equation. The second model was based on the Leblond equation. Both models were identified using inverse analysis of the experimental data. Simulations of various cooling schedules were performed to validate the models. Phase compositions for these cooling schedules were determined. Following this the effect of elements' segregation during solidification of steel on the occurrence of marteniste/bainite bands was accounted for using the developed models.
W artykule opisano doświadczalną i numeryczną analizę przemian fazowych w wybranej stali o podwyższonej wytrzymałości. Próby dylatometryczne wykonano w szerokim zakresie prędkości chłodzenia. Rozważono dwa modele wykorzystujące metodę średniego pola. Pierwszym modelem była zmodernizowana wersja modelu JMAK (Johnson-Mehl-Avrami-Kolmogorov). Drugim modelem było rozwinięcie równania Leblonda. Przeprowadzono identyfikację modeli wykorzystując rozwiązanie odwrotne dla prób dylatometrycznych. W celu walidacji modeli wykonano symulacje różnych schematów chłodzenia. Wyznaczono skład fazowy dla tych schematów. Następnie oszacowano wahania składu chemicznego w badanej stali i wykorzystano opracowane modele do określenie wpływu segregacji pierwiastków podczas krzepnięcia stali na powstawanie pasm martenzytu/bainitu.

The aim of the present work was to study the isothermal compression and isobaric thermal expansion behaviour of ball-milled NiFe (81 wt.% of Ni) and NiFeMo (79 wt.% of Ni, 16 wt.% of Fe) alloy and follow its phase evolution when exposed to high pressure and temperature. In-situ pressure-temperature energy dispersive X-ray (EDXRD) diffraction experiments were performed at the MAX80 instrument (beamline F2.1). The compressibility of NiFe alloy at 400 °C was evaluated for pressure values of up to 3.5 GPa. The EDXRD spectra revealed the presence of cubic FeNi_{3} phase as determined from the shift of (111), (200) and (220) reflection lines in corresponding EDXRD spectra.

Reducibility is a parameter which describes the ability of oxygen, combined with iron, to be removed from iron ore sinters by a reducing gas used in a blast furnace, and is often characterized by a Fe²⁺ content in a sinter. In sinters, iron at Fe²⁺ valence can occur in various types of minerals, which differ in values of reducibility. The set of sinters with the reducibility from 0.63%/min to 1.49%/min, prepared in the different laboratory conditions, were examined in terms of their mineral composition. The quantitative dependences between the fractions of the individual mineral constituents of the sinters and the values of reducibility were sought. The increase of the reducibility was correlated with a decrease of the content of magnetite and a rise of the fraction of hematite.

Thin layers X-ray diffraction study technique utilizing single-crystal X-ray diffractometer equipped with microfocus X-ray tube is described. It is shown that the layers of the tetra-fluorinated cobalt phthalocyanine (CoPcF₄), deposited by thermal evaporation in vacuum on a polished surface of the substrate (glass, quartz), have a highly oriented polycrystalline structure. All the crystallites have the (00l) plane oriented along the surface of the substrate. CoPcF₄ X-ray diffraction pattern indexing was conducted and unit cell parameters were determined. It is shown that crystal phase of both polycrystalline powder and thin layers of CoPcF₄ are isostructural to that of α -CoPc.

Opis:
$Cd_{1-x}Zn_{x}Se$ films with different zinc content were deposited by electron beam evaporation technique onto glass substrates for the application of solid-state photovoltaic devices. The structural, surface morphological and optical properties of $Cd_{1-x}Zn_{x}Se$ films have been studied in the present work. The host material, $Cd_{1-x}Zn_{x}Se$, has been prepared by the physical vapor deposition method of electron beam evaporation technique under the pressure of 1 × $10^{-5}$ mbar. The X-ray diffractogram indicates that these alloy films are polycrystalline in nature, of hexagonal structure with strong preferential orientation of the crystallites along (002) direction. Linear variation of lattice constant with composition (x) is observed. Surface roughness measured by atomic force microscopy is used to estimate the interface roughness. The optical properties show that the band gap $(E_{g})$ values vary from 2.08 to 2.64 eV as zinc content varies from 0.2 to 0.8. The surface morphological studies show the very small, fine and hardly distinguishable grains smeared all over the surface. The material properties would be altered and excellently controlled by adiusting the system composition x.

Opis:
An alignment study of multi-wall N-doped carbon nanotubes prepared by a template pyrolytic carbon deposition method inside channels of an alumina membrane has been performed using high-energy X-ray diffraction on the ID15B beamline at the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF, Grenoble). The two-dimensional diffraction pattern of the deposited carbon nanotubes, recorded directly, within the alumina membrane, using an image plate detector, exhibits two non-continuous arcs corresponding to the 002 graphitic reflection. The following values of the angle between the axis of the carbon nanotubes lying along the membrane channels and the incident beam were taken for five positions: 0°, 30°, 45°, 60° and 90°. The anisotropic scattering distribution of the two-dimensional patterns indicates an orientational alignment of the nanotubes. The one-dimensional intensity patterns obtained by scanning around the circumference of the (0 0 2) ring have allowed an estimation of the angular distribution of the nanotubes axes.

The paper deals with the investigations of structural properties of $Zn_{1-x}Mn_xTe$ films, which were fabricated under various deposition conditions using the thermal evaporation method in a closed volume. The surface morphology of the samples was studied, the phase analysis of their structures was performed, the elemental analysis of the films and the crystal lattice constant were investigated. The texture perfection of the films before and after copper ion implantation was evaluated.

Based on previously discovered forbidden values of the c/a ratio, we studied anomalies in the temperature evolution of the lattice parameters (a, c) of several hexagonal RTAl compounds at high temperatures (above room temperature). The compound $ErNi_{0.45}Cu_{0.55}Al$, that seemed to be impossible to be prepared in single-phase form, reaches the single-phase state at temperatures above 493 K (220°C). On the other hand, the compound $TbNi_{0.7}Cu_{0.3}Al$ - that was expected to undergo a first-order structural phase transition at high temperatures - exhibits a second-order type transition when approaching the critical values of the c/a ratio. These results are in agreement with idea of a forbidden range of c/a values in these compounds.

This work deals with the study of the phase and crystal structure behaviour of new micro- and nanocrystalline ferrites Dy_{1-x}R_xFeO₃ obtained by solid state reactions (R = La, Pr) and sol-gel citrate (R = Nd, Sm, Gd) techniques. It was established that all synthesized samples adopt orthorhombic perovskite structure isotypic with GdFeO₃. Unit cell dimensions and atomic coordinates of the mixed rare earth ferrites derived by full profile Rietveld refinement technique agree well with the data of the "pure" DyFeO₃ and RFeO₃ compounds, thus proving formation of continuous solid solutions Dy_{1-x}R_xFeO₃ in the DyFeO₃-RFeO₃ systems (R = La, Pr, Nd, Sm, Gd). Peculiarity of the Dy_{1-x}La_xFeO₃ series is the lattice parameters crossover and formation of dimensionally tetragonal structure at x ≈0.97.

The law of growth of nitrided layers produced by gaseous nitriding of 31CrMoV9 alloy steel at different process parameters is described. 31CrMoV9 steel specimens were subjected to nitriding process in ammonia gas at three different temperatures: 510, 550 and 590°C, and for each temperature four different nitriding times were used. This way twelve specimens were produced. Nitrided specimens were investigated with optical microscopy, electron probe micro-analysis and x-ray diffraction. The nitrogen depth concentration profiles, deduced from electron probe micro-analysis, in conjunction with results of optical microscopy, were used to determine the thickness of the nitrided layers, i.e. the diffusion depth of nitrogen. From the dependence of the nitrided layer thickness on process parameters (temperature and time) it was possible to deduce the law that governs the growth of the nitrided layer for 31CrMoV9 alloy steel. Through this law, then, it is possible to predetermine the layer thickness for every real process parameter in nitriding of 31CrMoV9 steel, which is very important for technological applications.

In the paper the crystal structure of single crystal CMSX-4 blade casts, applied in high pressure turbine of aircraft engines was analyzed. The longitudinal section of blade, cast at withdrawal rate of 3 mm/min was used as a sample. During the conducted research, following X-ray diffraction methods were applied: EFG Ω-scan, Auleytner X-ray topography and analysis of diffraction reflex profile ("rocking curve"). The authors determined crystal orientation in entire blade casts on the basis of set criterion concerning values of angle α - deviation of [001] direction from the direction of cast withdrawal. Conclusions concerning the crystal structure quality of the blade were drawn based on results from three different research methods. Local changes in crystal orientation on the surface of blade cast, also areas with significant structure defect degree and the presence of internal stresses were characterized.

ZnO thin films were deposited on microscope glass substrates by ultrasonic spray pyrolysis technique. The effects of annealing under various temperatures on the optical and structural properties of ZnO thin films were analyzed. The as-deposited and annealed ZnO thin films were investigated by UV/VIS spectrophotometer and X-ray diffractometer. Some of the optical properties of the films such as transmittance, absorbance and band gap energy were investigated by UV/VIS spectrophotometer. The crystallinity levels of the films were investigated, the structural parameters such as diffraction angle, full-width at half maximum, lattice parameters, grain size and dislocation density were calculated and structural properties were analyzed. X-ray diffraction patterns indicated that the ZnO films had a polycrystalline hexagonal wurtzite structure.

Here we present the results of pilot polycrystalline study of $PrNi_4Si$. The X-ray study did not confirm the expected $CaCu_5$-type structure. Instead of this, the orthorhombic structure with the space group Cmmm was found. The zero-field specific heat was measured in the temperature range 2-300 K. The data were analyzed using the sum of the phonon, electronic, and magnetic contributions to specific heat, respectively. The magnetic part of the specific heat can be well described using the Schottky formula for the 9 crystal-field singlet levels of the pz3 H4 ground-state multiplet of the $Pr^{3+}$ ion.

Opis:
Nuclear and magnetic properties of the $ScFe_{4}Al_{8}$ single crystal were found to exhibit unparalleled complexity of nuclear and magnetic structures. Our previous neutron measurements revealed presence of two modulation vectors, both along [ε, ε, 0], however with different critical temperatures. Recent experiments forced us to revise our knowledge of the structural ordering in the sample. So far, the crystal structure of this alloy, being of $ThMn_{12}$-type, has never been questioned.

The atomic structure of as-prepared $Fe_{61}Co_{(14-x)}Zr_{5}W_{x}B_{20}$ (x=1, 2 and 4) ribbon samples and their thermal stability were investigated by in-situ high-energy X-ray diffraction experiments. It was observed that higher W concentration causes the tiny shift of the main peak of the reduced atomic pair distribution function to higher values of interatomic distances and increases the coefficient of volume thermal expansion. The crystallization process occurs in two steps and is qualitatively the same for all studied specimens. Firstly the $Fe_{23}B_{6}$ phase is created and later is transformed to other types of borides together with the creation of a Fe-based phase.

Alphaviruses belong to the worldwide distributed Togaviridae family and Alphavirus genus. They are spherical, enveloped, single-stranded RNA arthropodborne viruses. Alphaviruses are mostly transmitted by mosquitoes (Aedes spp. and Anopheles spp.) and are geographically distributed in restricted areas where appropriate vectors are present (Fig.1.). The most recognized members of this genus are Sindbis (SINV), Semliki Forest (SFV), Venezuelan equine encephalitis (VEEV), Ross River (RRV), and Chikungunya (CHIKV) viruses. Alphaviruses are infection agents for humans and many animals. Clinically, most human infections with arthritogenic alphaviruses are associated with symptoms such as fever, headache, joint pain, rash, chronic arthritis, and encephalitis. Major events during the alphaviral infection are virus entry, replication, assembly, and budding of new virions. Alphaviral RNA encodes four nonstructural and five structural proteins. Nonstructural proteins are mainly involved in the replication process and virus pathogenesis, while structural proteins form new virions. Both groups of viral proteins are produced as single polyproteins which undergo autoproteolytic maturation. This process is carried out by the two viral proteases, cysteine protease nsP4 and C protein serine protease (CP), and is considered to be critical for virus replication. The capsid protease CP is a chymotrypsin-like serine protease with the catalytic triad including His145, Asp167, and Ser219. What is important, after a suicidal autoproteolytic event the side chain of Trp267 remains bound in a hydrophobic S1 pocket thus inhibiting further trans-proteolytic activity. Alphaviral capsid protein undergoes a single proteolytic reaction before maturation and then, after selfinactivation, it assembles to form a viral capsid shell. Inhibitors of the capsid protease have significant antiviral activity. Compounds belonging to this group can be good candidates for new antiviral drugs.

Purpose: The aim of the publication was to visualize the process of creating knowledge on the example of the CP Factory production line. For this purpose, the data contained in the relational databases and data of the operating production line were used. This data was converted to the form required by the CogniPy environment to create a semantic ontology for product personalization. Design/methodology/approach: With the available software based on ontologies and knowledge charts, the possibility of common human-computer reasoning has been opened, especially in production management. Findings: During the activities carried out, the on-conceptualization of the knowledge contained in the production management system was brought to an ontological form. At the moment, the information contained in the database is not very different from the data existing in the relational database. However, further modeling of ontology can be directed towards the creation of rules, logic and axioms of production processes. Practical implications: The operations and transformations performed presented the operation of CogniPy in the process of creating ontology and materializing the graph and queries. The created ontology takes the form of a universal set of knowledge that makes it open to wide integration with other systems. Originality/value: The publication shows the possibilities of using the CogniPy environment in the construction of ontology and semantic product personalization.

Mózgowe porażenie dziecięce to zespół objawów wynikających z trwałego uszkodzenia mózgu, znajdującego się w stadium niezakończonego rozwoju. Lokalizacja uszkodzenia mózgu warunkuje deficyty różnych funkcji, np.: ruchu, wzroku, mowy, funkcji poznawczej i emocjonalnej. Międzynarodowa Klasyfikacja Funkcjonowania, Niepełnosprawności i Zdrowia (ICF) to skala opracowana przez Światową Organizację Zdrowia (WHO), przeznaczona do opisu różnych aspektów zdrowia. ICF zapewnia standardowy język i koncepcyjne podstawy do zdefiniowania i pomiaru zdrowia i niepełnosprawności. ICF integruje najważniejsze modele niepełnosprawności. Uznaje rolę czynników środowiskowych w tworzeniu niepełnosprawności, a także znaczenie warunków zdrowotnych i ich skutków. Wieloprofilowość oraz uniwersalność klasyfikacji ICF umożliwia szerokie jej zastosowanie m.in. jako narzędzia: statystycznego, badawczego, klinicznego, polityki społecznej, edukacyjnego. Klasyfikacja ICY-CY (ICF wersja dla dzieci i młodzieży) pokazuje, że dziecko należy traktować jako istotę „międzysystemową”, ponieważ w trakcie rozwoju potrzebuje nadzoru oraz wsparcia we wszystkich aspektach życia, m.in. w sferze poznawczej, społecznej, mobilności, komunikacji, korzystając jednocześnie z kilku systemów usług, m.in. medycznych, edukacyjnych, opieki społecznej itp. Z listy 1685 kategorii ICF-CY specyficznych zestawów dla dzieci/młodzieży powstał kompletny, składający się ze 135 kategorii, specyficzny zestaw ICF-CP dla dzieci z mózgowym porażeniem dziecięcym od 0 do 18 lat. Dla ułatwienia w praktyce klinicznej ICF-CP został podzielony na mniejsze zestawy, również zależne od wieku dziecka z m.p.dz. Diagnoza funkcjonalna ICF-CP, obejmująca wszystkie aspekty życia, ułatwia wyznaczenie celów SMART oraz zaplanowania holistycznego procesu rehabilitacji. Usprawnianie ma na celu w równym stopniu oddziaływanie na naukę funkcji ruchowej, poznawczej, wychowania czy kształtowania osobowości dziecka. Funkcjonalna diagnoza pokazuje relacje rodzinne oraz wpływ środowiska na aktywne uczestnictwo dziecka. System Nauczania Kierowanego to wieloprofilowy proces, polegający na jednopłaszczyznowym, równoległym, zintegrowanym i zharmonizowanym usprawnianiu wszystkich niezbędnych funkcji dziecka z mózgowym porażeniem dziecięcym. Nadrzędnym celem wieloprofilowego usprawniania jest przejście od dysfunkcji do ortofunkcji, czyli według ICF-CP aktywnego uczestnictwa.
Cerebral palsy (CP) is a set of symptoms that result from permanent damage to an undeveloped brain. The location of the brain damage determines the deficits of different functions, which may include: movement, vision, speech, cognitive functions, and emotional functions. The International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) is a scale developed by the World Health Organization (WHO) that is used to describe various aspects of health. The ICF uses a common language and provides a conceptual basis for defining and measuring health and disabilities. The ICF also integrates the most important models of disabilities. It takes into account the role of environmental factors in the development of a disability and the importance of health conditions and their impact. The ICF classifications are multi-profile and universal, which allows for their wider use as a statistical, research, clinical, socio-political and educational tool. The ICF-CY (a version of the ICF for children and youth) shows that a child should be treated as an ‘intersystematic’ individual, because during development a child needs supervision and support in all aspects of life, including in the cognitive, social, mobility and communication spheres, and should take advantage of several services such as medical, educational and social care. From a list of 1685 categories in the ICF-CY, a specific set for children/adolescents with cerebral palsy (the ICFCP) was developed. This consists of 135 categories for children aged 0 to 18 years. For ease of clinical use, the ICF-CP is also divided into smaller sets that are dependent on the age of the child with CP. The ICF-CP functional diagnosis, which takes into account all aspects of life, facilitates the setting of SMART goals, as well as the planning of a holistic rehabilitation process. The aim of rehabilitation is equally aimed at motor functioning, cognition, learning and personality development. a functional diagnosis therefore shows the relationships in the family, and the effect of the environment on a child’s active participation. Conductive Education is a multi-profile process consisting of single-plane, parallel, integrated and harmonised improvement of all functions that are vital for a child with cerebral palsy. The main objective of this multi-profile rehabilitation is to progress from dysfunction to ortho-functioning, which, according to the ICF-CP, constitutes active participation.

Celem pracy było opracowanie narzędzi wspomagających budowę modelu reologicznego, zmian mikrostruktury oraz przemian fazowych. Przeprowadzono badania dylatometryczne, plastometryczne oraz metalograficzne wybranych stali bainitycznych przeznaczonych na wyroby długie i płaskie. Zbudowano oprogramowanie wspomagające opracowywanie matematycznych modeli reologicznego, rozwoju mikrostruktury i przemian fazowych. Na podstawie zebranych danych doświadczalnych opracowano model reologiczny i rozwoju mikrostruktury, a także zweryfikowano działanie programu służącego do opracowania modelu przemian fazowych dla wybranych stali bainitycznych.
The aim of the work was to build computer aided tools for development of rheological, microstructure evolution and phase transformation mathematical models. Experimental studies of some bainitic steels for fl at and long products comprised: dilatometry, plastometric tests, as well as metallography. Software was built for development of mathematical models: rheological, microstructure evolution, and phase transformation. Experimental verification of the software was carried out. For selected bainitic steels rheological and microstructure evolution models were developed.

Przeprowadzono ilościową analizę składu fazowego wybranych stali konstrukcyjnych. Badania wykonano na próbkach dylatometrycznych ze stali typu DP i CP. Wyniki pomiarów stereologicznych na zgładach trawionych różnymi odczynnikami zestawiono z analizą dylatometryczną. Opracowano własny program do identyfi kacji parametrów numerycznych modeli przemian fazowych w stalach. Podjęto próbę opracowania numerycznego modelu przemian fazowych zachodzących w stali konstrukcyjnej wielofazowej z wykorzystaniem nowego oprogramowania.
Quantitative analysis of phases was carried out in some structural steels. The investigation was performed on dilatometric specimens of DP and CP steels. The results of quantitative analysis of microstructure, revealed on specimens using different etching techniques, were compared to volume fractions of phases estimated using dilatometric technique. Moreover, computer program was developed for identification of parameters of mathematical model describing phase transformations in steels. The software was applied to developed numerical model of phase transformations occurring in complex phase structural steel.

Opis:
The growth-related microstructure and texture of the Co₂MnAl-type Heusler alloy in the form of a melt-spun ribbon was studied by electron microscopy, electron backscattered diffraction and X-ray diffraction. It is shown that melt spinning produces a single-phase disordered Heusler alloy. The fine grain structure at the wheel side of the ribbon exhibits no texture, while dominant columnar grain structure formed on the free surface side exhibits the ⟨111⟩ fibre texture with a declination by about 10 degrees in the spinning direction. The dendritic growth of columnar crystals causes inhomogeneity of the chemical composition on a micrometre scale with a higher Co and Al concentration in the centre of dendritic arms and a higher concentration of Mn at the dendrite arm boundaries.

Opis:
The novel method for structural analysis of quasicrystals with phason flips is presented. The correction for diffraction peaks' intensities can be made within average unit cell approach by modification of the statistical distribution of atomic positions. Characteristic function of the distribution expanded into moment series, involving only even moments, estimates the envelope function and therefore the flip ratio can be evaluated.

The aim of this research was to fabricate zinc oxide/cuprous(I) oxide-based heterojunction solar cells with the use of electrodeposition methods, and further to investigate their structures and photovoltaic properties. The ZnO and Cu₂O were used as n- and p-type semiconductors, respectively, to fabricate photovoltaic devices based on Ag/ZnO/Cu₂O/Cu(100) heterojunction structures. The crystallite sizes of ZnO and Cu₂O were determined to be 25.4(3) nm and 69.8(6) nm, respectively. It was pointed out that efficiencies of the solar cells can be gradually adjusted, using different thicknesses of Cu₂O layers, to achieve values as high as 2.7%. The standard diode model and high device performance provide new insights into the issue, outlining guidelines for high-performance solar cells and suggesting that a metal-n-type semiconductor-p-type semiconductor nanostructure-crystal layered, sandwiched-type architecture is a promising platform: to boost the efficiency.

It is known that the action of mechanical forces on solids (mechanical activation and/or mechanochemistry) leads to changes of their properties and reactivity. We have studied the physico-chemical and sorption properties of magnetite $Fe_3O_4$ (Kiruna, Sweden) mechanically activated in a planetary mill. Several methods such as X-ray diffractometry, Mössbauer spectroscopy, magnetometry, specific surface area measurement as well as arsenic sorption tests have been applied. By X-ray diffractometry strong amorphisation of magnetite has been evidenced. In parallel, specific surface area increased from 0.1 $m^2//g$ for the reference (non-milled) sample to the values 0.5-6.1 $m^2//g$ for milled samples. The Mössbauer spectrum of the reference sample is well fitted with two subspectra corresponding to tetrahedrally (A) and octahedrally (B) coordinated iron cations in the spinel structure of $Fe_3O_4$. In mechanically activated samples (B)-site subspectrum becomes asymmetric, while (A)-site spectrum remains more or less unchanged. The more covalent character of the Fe(A)-O bond compared to the Fe(B)-O bond can explain qualitatively why the spin-density transfer from (A) to (B) in the spinel structure is more effective than vice versa. The value of the saturation magnetization at room temperature was 67.4 ≈ 43.6 emu/g which is significantly lower than that of the bulk particles 92 emu/g. This reduction may be attributed to the surface disorder or spin canting at the particle surface. During the milling process the coercivity value increases from 150 Oe up to 460 Oe with milling time. This increase can be related to the fact that magnetic anisotropy may increase when particle size decreases. The sorption activity of $Fe_3O_4$ was enhanced as a consequence of its disordering: 88% of $As^{3+}$ was captured for the mechanically activated sample in comparison with 0% for the non-milled one.

An important feature of zinc oxide and gallium nitride materials are their similar physical properties. This allows to use them as a p-n junction materials for applications in optoelectronics. In earlier work we presented use of ZnO as a transparent contact to GaN, which may improve external efficiency of LED devices. In this work we discuss properties of a n-ZnO/p-GaN heterostructure and discuss its optimization. The heterostructure is investigated by us for possible applications, e.g. in a new generation of UV LEDs or UV light detectors.

Optical constants, dispersion and oscillator parameters of different thicknesses of amorphous $Ge_{25}Cd_5Se_{70}$ films have been deposited onto glass substrates using thermal evaporation technique. The optical constants have been investigated by optical spectrophotometry measurements. The straight forward analysis proposed by Swanepoel, which is based on the use of the extremes of the interference fringes has been used in order to derive the refractive index and the film thickness in μm range. The refractive index could be extrapolated by the Cauchy dispersion relationship over the whole spectral range, which extended from 400 to 2500 nm. It is observed that, refractive index n increases with the film thickness. The possible optical transition is found to be allowed indirect transition with energy gap increase from 1.915 to 1.975 eV with increasing film thickness. The dispersion of the refractive index is discussed in terms of the Wemple-DiDomenico single oscillator model. The interband oscillator wavelength, the average oscillator strength, and the optical conductivity were estimated for different thicknesses of amorphous $Ge_{25}Cd_5Se_{70}$ films.

Opis:
Cadmium sulfide, copper sulfide and zinc sulfide films were grown on Si(111) substrate by successive ionic layer adsorption and reaction method at room temperature. The crystalline structure and morphology of obtained films were characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electronic microscope and energy dispersive X-ray analysis methods. The films were polycrystalline and showed preferred orientation. The surface morphology of these films looked relatively smooth and homogeneous in the scanning electron microscope image. The energy dispersive X-ray analysis spectra showed that the expected elements exist in the thin films.

Opis:
Monocrystalline films of zinc oxide were grown at 300C by atomic layer deposition. ZnO layers were grown on various substrates like ZnO bulk crystal, GaN, SiC and $Al_2O_3$. Electrical properties of the films depend on structural quality. Structural quality, surface morphology and optical properties of ZnO films were characterized using X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, and photoluminescence, respectively. High resolution X-ray diffraction spectra show that the rocking curve FWHM of the symmetrical 00.2 reflection equals to 0.058° and 0.009° for ZnO deposited on a gallium nitride template and a zinc oxide substrate, respectively. In low temperature photoluminescence sharp excitonic lines in the band-edge region with a FWHM equal to 4 meV, 5 meV and 6 meV, for zinc oxide deposited on gallium nitride, zinc oxide and sapphire substrate, respectively.

Opis:
The understanding of the structure and the stability of high entropy alloys is still incomplete and the mechanisms behind the composition-property relationships are unclear. One reason is that few systematic and accurate determinations of their composition-dependent structure on atomic level have been made. In this paper some results on the structure obtained by X-ray and neutron diffraction of the CoCrFeNi alloy, to which Pd, Sn and Cu have been added in different amounts, are reported. The investigations make it obvious that none of the alloys is completely homogeneous, as has earlier been suggested, and that they do not form a perfect solid solution.

Opis:
Nanocrystalline $Pr_2Fe_{17}$ and $Nd_2Fe_{17}$ powders with rhombohedral $Th_2Zn_{17}$-type crystal structure and average particle sizes around 20 nm have been obtained by high-energy ball milling. While the bulk alloys show a well-defined and sharp drop in the low-field magnetization curve at the Curie temperature, $T_{C}$ = 285 K (Pr) and 335 K (Nd), the ball-milled samples exhibit a substantial broadening of the ferro-to-paramagnetic transition due to a considerable augmentation of the disordered inter-grain boundaries. The latter results in an increase of more than 25% in the values of the full width at half maximum of the temperature dependence of the magnetic entropy change maintaining almost unchanged the relative cooling power.

$Al_{73}Cu_{11}Cr_{16}$ alloys were prepared by mechanical alloying of the irradiated by $Ar^{+}$ ions elemental powders. Evolution of alloy structure at ball milling, as well as during the further annealing, was investigated using X-ray diffraction and differential scanning calorimetry. It was shown that ball milling leads to the Cu dissolution in Al and Cr and to the formation of $Al_{2}Cu$ intermetallic phase. An increase of the milling duration leads to an increase of the $Al_{2}Cu$ phase content in the samples. Ion irradiation of initial elemental powders results in an increase of their interaction rate at milling. In the case of irradiated powders using as initial materials, a content of $Al_{2}Cu$ phase after milling is higher than in the case of using non-irradiated elemental powders. No effect of irradiation of initial elemental powders on the phase transformation at heating was observed. The annealing results in the decomposition of Al- and Cr-based supersaturated solid solutions. An increase in the $Al_{2}Cu$ phase content at heating was observed only in the samples, which were milled for 4 h. In the samples milled for 14 h, nearly no increase in $Al_{2}Cu$ phase content at heating was observed. Heating up to 500-600°C results in the single-phase decagonal quasicrystalline phase formation for all of the studied samples.

The process of a primary crystallization of the $Fe_{72.5}Cu_{1}Nb_{2}Mo_{2}Si_{15.5}B_{7}$ alloys was investigated by differential thermal analysis (DTA), x-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Amorphous ribbons were isothermally annealed for 0.5, 2, 6, 30 and 150 minutes at 520 °C. Both, the XRD and TEM study showed that the level of devitrification of the sample increases with the annealing time. The above mentioned techniques confirmed the presence of the nanocrystalline grains of the $Fe_{3}Si$ phase and enable us to study the evolution of the identified phase.

The E$\text{}_{c}$-0.22 eV trap in Horizontal Bridgman undoped n-type GaAs may be passivated by contact with phosphoric acid for 8 hours at room temperature. Isochronal annealing, at around 250°C for 1 hour resulted in the partial recovery of this defect. The possible mechanisms of E$\text{}_{c}$-0.22 eV trap passivation are proposed.

A series of $Fe_{3-x}Ti_xSn$ disordered alloys (where x = 0, 0.25, 0.5, and 0.75) obtained by arc-melting were studied. Directly after the melting all samples were mechanically crashed and in that form examined by the X-ray diffraction and Mössbauer effect methods. In $Fe_{3-x}Ti_xSn$ alloy with x = 0 three phases exist: FeSn (B35), $FeSn_2$ (C16) and Fe(Sn) (A2). The contributions of these phases decrease very fast in aid of ternary Fe-Ti-Sn alloys with the B2 and $D0_3$/$L2_1$ types of structure, as Ti atoms concentration increases. It was shown that these ternary alloys consist of four distinct Fe-Ti-Sn phases with contributions depending on the value of the x parameter. The value of hyperfine magnetic field $(B_{hf})$ parameter at the Fe nuclei is equal to about 110 kG for FeSn and $FeSn_2$ phases. However in alloys with A2, B2 and $D0_3$/$L2_1$ type of structure this value changes from 0 kG to 335 kG and can be considered (in the first approximation) as a function of Fe atoms number in the nearest neighborhood.

X-ray rocking curve imaging technique was used to study crystallographic perfection of laterally overgrown epitaxial structures. We focus on rocking curve imaging studies of Si-doped GaAs and GaSb laterally overgrown layers grown by liquid phase epitaxy on $SiO_{2}$ masked GaAs and GaSb/GaAs substrates, respectively. High spatial resolution offered by rocking curve imaging technique allows studying the effect of laterally overgrown epitaxial wing tilt towards the mask. Distribution of tilt magnitude over the area of laterally overgrown epitaxial stripes is easily determined. In heteroepitaxial GaSb/GaAs laterally overgrown epitaxial structures local mosaicity in the wing area was detected. Since individual grains are clearly visible on rocking curve imaging maps, their size and relative misorientation can be determined.

We have reported the fabrication of MgO core/$SnO_2$ shell nanowires, by a two-step evaporation process. Thermal annealing induced changes in morphology, in which the nanowire surface became rough by the agglomeration of $SnO_2$ shell layers and its crystallinity was enhanced. It was found that three fundamental modes (475, 634, 772 $cm^{-1}$) and an infrared (IR)-active mode (682 $cm^{-1}$) of rutile $SnO_2$ appeared in the Raman spectrum of MgO core/$SnO_2$ shell nanowires. By thermal annealing, the relative intensity of the $A_{2u}$ to the $A_{1g}$ line was reduced, presumably due to the disorder or size effects.

According to high energy X-ray diffraction measurements no significant changes were observed in a short range atomic order of amorphous ribbons $Fe_{73.5-x}Mn_xCu_1Nb_3Si_{13.5}B_9$ (x=1 up to 15 at.%). Thermal stability of the as-prepared alloys was investigated by differential scanning calorimetry and by in situ X-ray diffraction measurements. The two-step crystallization process was revealed, crystallization temperatures $T_{x1}$ and $T_{x2}$ were influenced by Mn content (thermal separation between $T_{x1}$ and $T_{x2}$ completely vanished for x=9). Nanocrystalline state of annealed samples was confirmed by electron transmission microscopy. The influence of Mn substitution on magnetic properties was confirmed by thermomagnetic measurements.

This paper presents the study of microstructure and properties of 8 mol% yttrium stabilized zirconia coating fabricated by Plasma Spray Physical Vapor Deposition technique on commercial pure titanium. The coating was characterized by X-ray diffraction, high resolution scanning electron microscope, profilometer, nanoindentation and nanomachining tests. The X-ray phase analysis exhibit the tetragonal Zr0.935 Y0.065O1.968, TiO and α-Ti phases. The Rietveld refinement technique were indicated the changes of crystal structure of the produced coatings. The characteristic structure of columns were observed in High Resolutions Scanning Electron Microscopy. Moreover, the obtained coating had various development of surfaces, thickness was equal to 3.1(1) μm and roughness 0.40(7) μm. Furthermore, the production coatings did not show microcracks, delamination and crumbing. The performed experiment encourages carried out us to tests for osseointegration.

Opis:
The magnetic nanoparticles with core diameter 10 nm were modified by poly-L-lysine to bind antibody for cancer cell detection. Prepared biocompatible magnetic fluid (MFPLL) was characterized by dynamic light scattering method to obtain the particle size distribution. The microstructure of the MNPs and MFPLL samples were studied by transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction and Mössbauer spectroscopy. Magnetic properties of the samples were measured by SQUID magnetometer and superparamagnetic behaviour of the samples was confirmed.

In this work, influence of ²³⁸U swift (5.9 MeV/u) heavy ions on the as-prepared Fe-Cu-Nb-Si-B metallic glass was investigated by in situ temperature X-ray diffraction of synchrotron radiation. It was observed that ion irradiation strongly affected the temperature evolution of the parameters of the first diffuse peak. It is hypothesized that ion irradiation induced structural rearrangement that increased the degree of disorder of the amorphous structure. During heat treatment, structural relaxation and annealing out of this ion-induced degradation took place. Consequently, the original structure was recovered as demonstrated by the behaviour of the first diffuse peak broadening and devitrification process.

Zr-Cu-Ni-Al bulk metallic glass is an attractive alloy system for scientific research and engineering applications. Alloys from this system exhibit high strength, hardness, corrosion resistance and good glass forming ability which makes them useful in many applications. In order to successfully apply amorphous materials, it is necessary to characterize their structure and properties, which are mutually dependent. The mechanical properties of the Zr-based amorphous alloy are the result of its unique, disordered structure. In this experiment, amorphous alloy of desirable composition in the form of a plate with thickness of 2 mm was prepared by melting high purity Zr, Cu, Ni, Al elements and casting into a copper mould by applying an ejection pressure. The amorphousness of rapidly solidified Zr₅₅Cu₃₀Ni₅Al₁₀ plate was examined by X-ray diffraction and microscopic observation. These investigations revealed that the studied Zr-based sample was amorphous. Based on experimental X-ray data the pair distribution function was calculated and discussion on possible atoms arrangement was carried out.

Samples of natural bentonite and clinoptilolite modified with copper(II), iron(III), and palladium(II) were characterized by both X-ray phase and the Fourier transform infrared spectral methods. The activity of monometallic compositions M_{i}L_{j}/S(M = Co(II), Fe(III), and Pd(II); L = NO₃¯, Cl¯, and SO₄²¯; S = N-CLI or N-Bent) in the reaction with sulfur dioxide was found to depend on the nature of both a metal ion and a support. For bimetallic compositions Cu(II)-Fe(III) and Cu(II)-Pd(II) based on the natural aluminosilicates, a certain synergism in the action of metals forming these pairs towards the reaction of sulfur dioxide oxidation with oxygen was determined.

In the present study, powders produced from the volcanic basalt rocks were coated on pre-coated AISI 1040 steel with Ni-5% Al bond coat by atmospheric plasma spray coating technique. The coated specimens were characterized by optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, metallography and X-ray diffraction. Bonding strength of coatings was evaluated in accordance with the ASTM C-633 method. Coated basalt material from the APS coating system was determined in the glassy amorphous state by X-ray diffraction analysis. The coated samples were heat-treated at 800C for 1-4 h for crystallization. The phases formed in the basalt base glass-ceramic coatings were augite, Fe-diopside, anorthite, and andesine which were detected by X-ray diffraction analysis. Basalt based glass-ceramic coatings include splat, porosity and un-melted particles which were the characteristic of plasma sprayed coatings. Experiment result showed that the crystallization time increase caused the decrease of the bond strengths of the coatings.

In this study, production possibility of glass and glass-ceramic produced from granite was investigated. The composition of granite based glass bath mixture was 50 wt% granite, 25 wt% dolomite and 25 wt% sodium carbonate. Composition that was grounded and mixed in a ball mill for 2 h was melted at 1500C for 1 h. Glass samples were heat treated for crystallization to produce glass-ceramic materials at 800°C, 900C and 1000C for 2 h to promote internal crystallization. Phase identifications of glass and glass-ceramic materials were investigated by X-ray diffraction analysis. Moreover, hardness and fracture toughness measurement of glass and glass-ceramic materials were applied. Granite based materials after that melting and casting process was found amorphous state by characterization with X-ray diffraction analysis. After the heat treatment processes, crystal phases settled out in glass matrix were also determined in granite based materials. Moreover, values of hardness and fracture toughness increasing were detected by heat treatment schedule.

Opis:
Cerium, the most abundant rare earth element, and boron containing mineral (lithium tetraborate pentahydrate) were used for synthesizing rare earth borates. Alternatively, for preparing rare earth borates, hydrothermal technique can be used. The non-stoichiometric cerium and boron containing compounds were synthesized by hydrothermal method using cerium sulphate and lithium tetraborate pentahydrate in appropriate molar ratio. Characterizations were done by X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy/energy dispersive X-ray analysis, and thermogravimetric/differential thermal analysis.

In this material production research, undoped and Ba-doped nanostructured PbS films are fabricated on glass surfaces by SILAR method. The structural, optical and morphological properties of the films are examined via scanning electron microscopy, UV-vis spectrophotometry and X-ray diffraction analysis. Scanning electron microscopy analysis revealed that Ba-doping concentration influences the size of the thin film's nanoparticles. X-ray diffraction results showed that all of the thin films are in a face centered cubic structure. Optical studies, in the room temperature, revealed that the optical band gap of the films increases as Ba-doping concentration is increased. The intercept values on the energy axis in the range of 1.86 eV and 2.12 eV for 1% and 8% Ba-doped PbS films respectively. As a result, it is concluded that the structural, optical and morphological properties of the fabricated thin films are directly depend on the Ba doping ratio.
