rts and business relationships have been generally characterised by sponsorship and philanthropy and there are a number of studies that support this binary approach. Recently however more research and experimentation has been conducted regarding the structural changes in the arts and business relations, e.g. the emergence of various new types of arts and business collaboration, such as arts-based methods. That being said there remains a dearth of exhaustive studies that would empirically analyse these new types of collaboration and how they influence the terrain of arts and business relations. My empirical study of thirty-three arts and business organisations is one of the few studies to emphasise the changes and transitions that shape the landscape of the arts and business field today. This exploratory study recognises and describes the transition from a transactional to a more partnership-oriented approach of arts and business organisations.

Ważnym przesłaniem analizowanej problematyki jest uchwycenie kontekstu życia sztuki oraz wyprowadzenie implikacji edukacyjnych.
This paper seeks to demonstrate the cultural and educational aspects of dialogue drawing on classical culture studies, pedagogy of dialogue and the science of the arts. It focuses on four thematic areas: the dialogue of the arts with reality, the dialogue of the arts with the viewer, the dialogue of the arts with the arts itself, the dialogue of the arts with the aspects of social life. The underlying purpose of this paper is to contextualise the life of the arts and its educational ramifications.

Outdoor and adventure education is an increasingly popular trend in education in Poland – nowadays it is manifested mainly in practical forms and only in non-formal education. In Western Europe and the USA, with developed research methodology and a long tradition, this trend can be called science. Outdoor and adventure education is a heterogeneous sphere, but it has several elements that are at the heart of the adventure education method. One of its main assumptions is working with a specific “adventure medium” through which the intended goals are achieved. The most popular are outdoor sports and tourism, but more and more often new means are used, for example those derived from the arts. It is manifested mostly in practical activities (which is natural, as this field developed out of practice, and its theoretical and research background was created later). The use of arts is two-dimensional. The first dimension is based on visual arts (handicraft, painting), most often linked to outdoor education, and their main goal is to build relationships with nature. The second, less popular dimension, focuses on the use of body expression (theatre, dance, movement). In Poland, this trend is not yet known, whereas in Western countries there have appeared some articles showing the value of using arts in this area of education. The purpose of this article is to show how arts, and body expression in particular, may be used in outdoor and adventure education activities.

Problem and Aim: The current article is an attempt to summarize the experiences gained from two foreign conferences, the 50th Japanese Academy of Budo Conference and the 2nd International Budo Conference at the Centenary Memorial Hall on Kansai University, which were recognized simultaneously as the VI International IMACSSS Conference, and the accompanying events, as well as 8th International Scientific Congress “Sport, People and Health”, organized by, among others, P.F. Lesgaft National State University of Physical Education, Sport and Health and the International Sambo Federation. The third of these scientific events was the 6th International Taekwondo Symposium for Taekwondo Studies, which was held in Muju, South Korea. Materials and Method: Due to the multidisciplinary approach nature of the conferences, content analysis of literature and extensive discourse analysis as well as the participant observation were used. Three case studies are also provided. Results and Conclusions: The indicated trips and scientific events offal within martial arts tourism, which is at the same time a journey for scientific study and exchange of knowledge related to martial arts research. It is therefore connected with scientific tourism as well as with congress and educational tourism. The described scientific events are relevant for research on martial arts tourism and for describing the process of institutionalizing the scientific research of martial arts and the recent history of the institutions in this area.

Praktyka w obszarze arteterapii wymaga namysłu nad jej fundamentami: rozumieniem zdrowia oraz rozumieniem sztuki, które uzasadnia jej miejsce w podejmowanych procesach terapeutycznych. Pojęcie zdrowia obecnie podlega dyskusji, a pojęcie sztuki jest z natury otwarte. W każdych działaniach terapeutycznych rozumianych jako towarzyszenie w procesie zdrowienia obowiązuje zasada: primum non nocere. Bezrefleksyjne angażowanie sztuki w działania terapeutyczne jest potencjalnie szkodliwe. Rozumiem zdrowie jako dynamiczny stan równowagi, który zawdzięczamy żywotności procesów homeostazy i allostazy, a zdrowienie jako skuteczny wysiłek podejmowany przez organizm w celu zarządzania tymi procesami. Zdrowie jest zarówno byciem w dobrej formie, jak i zdolnością dążenia do dobrej formy. Żywotność i efektywność procesów homeostazy łączę z ludzką zdolnością do bycia obecnym. Podobnie sztukę rozumiem jako specyficzne ludzkie doświadczenie trudnego, często bolesnego procesu dążenia do dobrej formy, jak i samą formę, którą za Robertem Plantem Armstrongiem (1971) nazywam „poruszającą obecnością”. Twórcze procesy ekspresyjne, w wyniku których takie formy powstają, widzę jako kierowane potrzebą adaptacji i transcendencji, a obecność jako warunek, który pozwala nam bezpośrednio spotkać zarówno to, co tożsame, jak i inne. Poświecenie równej uwagi procesowi i formie uważam za kluczowe w arteterapii.
Good practice in arts therapy requires reflection on its very foundations: human health that sets the therapeutic goals and the role of the therapist in the process of healing and an understanding of art that would legitimize its place in therapeutic activities. The concept of health is currently under discussion and the concept of art is inherently open. In all activities understood as auxiliary in the healing process, the primum non nocere principle applies. A thoughtless use of art in therapeutic activities can be harmful. The WHO identifies health as broadly defined well-being allowing satisfactory productivity. In this paper, such understanding of health is discussed and contrasted with an approach that views health as a dynamic state of equilibrium that we owe to the vitality of the processes of homeostasis and allostasis, while recovery is understood as an effective effort taken by the whole body to manage these processes. Such a perspective allows us to see health as both being in “good shape” and the vital ability to strive for the “good shape.” I link the vitality of these processes with the human ability to be present. I see art as a uniquely human experience of the difficult, often painful process of striving for a good form, and the form itself. I call that form “affecting presence” after Robert Plant Armstrong (1971). The creative expressive process that results in the creation and recognition of such forms is seen as driven by striving for adaptation and transcendence. Fulfilling both of these goals requires a presence that enables direct encounter with likeness and otherness. In arts therapy practice, giving equal attention to the process and the affecting presence that issues from it is both its most crucial task and the condition of its success.

William S. Burroughs (1914-1997), one of the most controversial American writers of the 20th century, is an example of a "total artist", who does not limit himself to one genre or medium. He is best known for being an experimental writer, the co-creator of the avant-garde, "cut-ups" technique - a variant of collage. His cut-ups, however, were not limited to literature, as he was also the author of musical recordings, experimental videos and various visual art projects. These were collaborative undertaking that the artist carried out with his friends - mainly with  Brion Gysim (painter), Ian Sommerville (electronics technitian and computer programmer) and Anthony Balch (film director). This article discussed William Burroughs' lesse-known works like, The Third Mind, As Pook Is Here, and The Book of Breeething as they are multi-media, interdysciplinary projects, created with the help of popular painters or illustrators, e.g. Bob Gale or Malcolm McNeil, and best demonstrate Burroughs' unconventional approach towards collaboration and the crossing of boundaries between different forms of art. The article also briefly comments on Burroughs' final decision to turn to painting and his eccentric "Shotgun Art".

Przedstawiona metoda jest wynikiem prac naukowo-badawczych prowadzonych na Wydziale Architektury Politechniki Poznańskiej. Jej oryginalność polega na wykorzystaniu działań artystycznych jako operatora heurystycznego w prognozowaniu związanym z architekturą mieszkaniową.
This article presents the original Arts-Based Research method which could give competitive advantage on the market owing to the identification of future developmental trends in housing architecture. Superiority within the scope of predicting future trends is a significant element of competitiveness in contemporary architecture – it not only concerns architectural design but also numerous branches of industry: the producers of building materials, interior design, furniture etc. The presented method is the result of scientific and research work done at the Faculty of Architecture, Poznan University of Technology. Its originality consists in the use of artistic actions as a heuristic operator in forecasting related to housing architecture.

The German so-called Little Masters (Kleinmeister) were painter-engravers, active in the first half of the 16th century. They did not form any group or belong to any school, but were direct continuators of Albrecht Dürer’s printmaking. Depending on the author, the term Little Masters has been applied to various artists from this generation, the most significant ones being the three artists from Nuremberg: (Hans) Sebald (1500-1550), Barthel (1502-1540) Beham and Georg Pencz (ca. 1500-1550), as well as Albrecht Altdorfer (1480-1538) and Heinrich Aldegrever (1502-ca. 1555), and the lesser known Hans Brosamer (ca. 1490-1552), Jacob Binck (1494/1500-after 1569) and an anonymous Master IB. The article focuses on Sebald Beham whose biography and works have been repeatedly studied in German and English literature,but only mentioned in Polish publications. As far as his education is concerned, it is possible, but not documented, that he was trained by his brother Barthel and subsequently by Dürer. His life has often been regarded as a rebellious one due to his troubles with the authorities; firstly, when he confessed, together with his brother and Georg Pencz, his disbelief in the holy sacraments and his disrespect for the town council, and secondly, when his book on the proportions of the horse was published before Dürer’s Art of Measurement. In the first case, he was jailed and expelled from Nuremberg for just under a year, whereas after the second scandal he left the city for few months. This prolific artist’s oeuvre encompasses about 250 copperplates, 18 etchings and over 1500 woodcuts, including book illustrations. He was the author of simple and small woodcuts, extremely detailed miniature works in metal created with thin and delicate lines, as well as large woodcuts used as wallpapers. Moreover, the subjects of his prints were varied: Biblical (mostly the Old Testament), mythological, historical (ancient history in particular) and genre scenes (mainly peasants), images of saints, portraits, allegorical representations, coats of arms, decorative and ornamental motifs. My paper deals with Beham’s prints depicting peasant dances and festivals, especially the three series of engravings created in Frankfurt am Main between 1535-1540: Peasant Festival (1537), Peasant Wedding Procession (ca. 1538–1540) and Peasant Festival or The Twelve Months (1546–1547). Although it was Dürer who introduced this genre motif into the graphic arts and inspired his followers, the creation and development of this specific type of representation is ascribed to the Beham brothers. Sebald’s large woodcuts and miniature engravings depicted the villagers’ customs in different ways; taking the audience’s needs into consideration, he developed, changed and re-edited this motif in his prints till the second half of the 16th century, when it began to function as a separate subject. The development of the peasant motif in graphic arts at that time resulted from several factors. First of all, it occurred during a period of interest in the way of life and feasts of this social group. Studies on the past and the first attempts to create a national identity provide an explanation for this fascination, as does the changing atmosphere of Nuremberg secondary to social and religious transformations. The new Lutheran doctrine condemned church holidays as being more secular than religious in character. Kermis, the most popular festival, which celebrated a church’s anniversary or its saint’s day, was often an occasion that provoked numerous sins: blasphemy, drunkenness, anger, lust or adultery, as well as quarrels, brawls and even murders. As a result, the aforementioned feasting became a worrying issue for the town council, which gradually began to cancel some of the festivals; the authorities tried to make both the upper and lower classes aware of the destructive effects of village holidays. Taking the moralistic and didactic character of Beham’s graphic works into consideration, one can assume that the artist expressed recognition as well as critique of this kind of feast. Last but not least, the Peasants’ War also accounted for rising interest in rural life, although it cannot be regarded as a key factor. While most researchers have tried to find only one right interpretation as far as both large woodcuts and the series of miniature engravings depicting peasants are concerned, it seems to me that one should study these works in a wider context, taking their varied contents, symbols and meanings into consideration. These do not have to exclude one another; on the contrary, they can complete each other and help us to understand Beham’s prints better in their historical, social and cultural context. Such an approach gives rise to new possibilities of interpretation.

Heidegger thus attempted to give a hermeneutic circle base that would besomething more than just epistemology. His hermeneutics becomes a realontology, which prohibits return to epistemological issues. It is this aporia has become the central problem of philosophical hermeneutics H. G. Gadamer (1900-2002). First introduced to the scientific problem of consciousness essay of 1958,where he developed features of hermeneutical ontology. The essay can be foundin his greatest work, published in 1960 Wahrheit und Methode (Truth andmethod.) The author confirms her ontological universality of understanding, alsocalled the hermeneutic universalism. It follows that understanding as well as theoriginal ontological character of every human life. Hermeneutics is the basicaspects of existence, that it creates in the finiteness and historicity, which make up the sum of his experiences in the world. These aspects make the process ofunderstanding something as universal and constitutive. Another aspect ofGadamer is very important as it relates to historical tradition. "Man is a projectlike this confirmed by Heidegger, but it is brought from the past and is tied is a tradition. Gadamer, in controversy with rehabilitating Enlightenment hermeneutictradition of fertility. Understanding can not be seen as an action organization,rather than the vivid integration into the historical process of transmission in whichpast and present continuously synthesized. In the Middle Age the rhetoric was one of the seven liberal arts. Its position in the medieval culture Has been confirmed by Cassiodor, Isidor of Sevilla, Augustin of Hippona and Martianus Capella. The medieval rhetoric was composedof five parts: inventio (invention), dispositio (disposition), elucutio (elocution), memoria (memory) and pronuntiatio (pronuntiation). Only three of them exertet real influence on the fine arts. Inventio controlled the proces of choice of the ideas, which have benn represented by images in work of arts. Dispositio collocated the images in the whole structure of work of art. Elocutio applicated some rhetorical figure in order to communicate some massages throughout the images. In the Middle Ages existed two sources, which inspired the mediewal rhetoric. The fitst Skurce was the ancien, greek and roman rhetoric , the second – the semitic, biblical rhetoric. In the Bible exist two important literary and rhetorical structures – the parallelism and the centripetal construction. These structures influenced some models of composition of narrative cycles and series of images. Rhetor – a hypothetical personage, educated in trivium and quatrivium and expert in the rhetoric, played important role in the mediewal culture. He collaborated with artist and he applicated the rhetorical methods and rhetorical figure in the creation of works of art.

The basic data distribution statistics and the strength of correlations between the values have been evaluated, too. The findings confirm the rank of their previous education and life experiences including the sporty ones in strengthening the adult respondents’ attitudes to the physical culture values.

This article discusses the role of context in arts and aesthetic theory and demonstrates that contextual analysis broadens our understanding of these two realms. It demonstrates a codification of an important controversy in aesthetic theory and arts between formalist and contextualist theories. It serves as a means to highlighting some moments in the development of aesthetics and arts that contributed to the rejection of old paradigms (disinterest theory, formalism) and instigated a move towards a more context-focused analyses of art and aesthetics.

The aim of the paper was to analyze: training effectiveness in the preparatory period, changes in contestants’ aerobic and anaerobic capacity in the preparatory period, changes in contestants’ motor abilities in the preparatory period, to compare the level of selected parameters of anaerobic capacity measured by means of Wingate test and aerobic capacity measured by means of Beep-test of kickboxing contestants with the results of contestants training similar martial arts. The research has been carried out on three contestants of UKS Gladiator Club who achieve high sports results. An analysis of obtained results shows that the training employed in the preparatory phase has been appropriately planned and effective enough. Both aerobic and anaerobic capacity in the preparatory phase has increased significantly. Anaerobic capacity of the examined contestants is higher than capacity of the contestants in the control group. Their aerobic capacity, on the other hand, is lower than in the control group. When planning further training in the future greater attention should be paid to developing aerobic capacity.

Abstrakt Traktując ciszę jako efekt wynikający z specyficznej formy ramowania sytuacji w działaniach artystycznych i społecznych artykuł analizuje przykłady „uciszania” odrzucają dychotomiczną opozycję na dźwięk i ciszę. Manipulacja percepcją odbiorcy pozwala na wytworzenie stany ciszy w określonej przestrzenie, jak w przypadku serii performansów pod nazwą Blackout. W ramach konwencji koncertu artysta Tres wyłącza wszystkie działające systemu danego budynku próbując doprowadzić do wyciszenia całości konstrukcji. To działanie fizyczne połączone jest z symboliczną redukcją ukazując jak sama publiczność wytwarza określony stan. Wykorzystując perspektywę performatyki chciałabym skupić się na uciszaniu jako procesie kolonizowania przestrzeni i narzucania określonego porządku poprzez wykorzystywanie technik i technologii w działaniach artystycznych.

His activities at the turn of the 20th century greatly contributed to the emergence of New Arts: he was a pioneer of constructivism in Poland, he created the first Polish photomontages, he argued in favour of giving the arts back to the proletariat. His radical, extremely leftist views made him a loner in his hard struggle for a revolution in the arts (and, in the long run, also in the society).

Background and Study Aim: The impact of ideas on teaching and training in martial arts has not been widely studied yet. Novum here is specially designed methodology – by expert’s judgements, not directly. On the ground of General Theory of Fighting Arts, the question is: How do i deological (philosophical, religious) conditions affect the process of training in different martial arts? The scope of research was limited to contemporary Europe and selected martial arts organizations (1980 -2015). Method: The first method used here is based on analysis of the content of the literature of the subject, or rather qualitative analysis of the discourse. Then the opinions and teaching of 5 highest rank masters of martial arts from France, Germany and Poland were taken into account (expert cour t method). It comes to this own, long -standing participant observation of the author. Results: There are 5 issues taken from the literature of the subject and 5 of their western applications, according to master -teachers’ teaching. They represent the classic canon of martial arts. The attitude to martial arts traditions varies from preference towards faithfulness to innovation. Disciples of Asian masters are more often in favour of the original version of the curriculum. Conclusions: Most of the ideological content of today's Asian martial arts comes from the philosophy of Taoism. In many cases the symbols and rules derive rather from the cultural traditions of the country of origin of the martial arts, rather than directly from certain religious or philosop hical systems. The attitude of widely perceived perfectionism is one of these universal values of martial arts, which is worth promoting regardless of world- view.

Historia sztuki w muzeum nie tworzy teorii, ale odpowiada na szczegółowe kwestie. W ten sposób w każdej sytuacji pozostaje w bezpośrednich relacjach z samym rdzeniem struktury „sensu muzealniczego”. Po pierwsze towarzyszy wszystkim etapom gromadzenia zbiorów, bo wiąże się z tym już wstępna analiza i ekspertyza dla dokonania nabytku oraz późniejsze jego opracowanie (inwentaryzacja i katalogowanie). Są to oczywiste dla muzealnika pytania o atrybucję, datowanie, ikonografię, technikę i technologię wykonania, cechy stylowe. Wnioski z tych badań stanowią następnie podstawę muzealnych ekspozycji. To najistotniejszy aspekt działania historii sztuki w muzealnictwie. Podobnie można też przedstawić cele edukacji w zakresie historii sztuki dla potrzeb muzealnictwa. Dyscyplina ta wytycza ramy intelektualne, kulturalne, artystyczne działalności muzealnej, ale potem musi przekształcić się w to coś, co nazwiemy znawstwem. Edukacja w muzealnictwie ma wszak dwa oblicza, bo to nie tylko formacja pracowników (jej kształtowanie i wzbogacanie), ale także działalność edukacyjna muzeum kierowana na zewnątrz – ku odbiorcy. Historia sztuki dostarcza modelu operacyjnego, przede wszystkim swojej własnej klasyfikacji wedle reguł chronologiczno-stylowych wraz ze swoistym uniwersalizmem, dążeniem do ujęcia całości. Muzeum jest miejscem sztuki, ale rzecz biorąc historycznie jest ono jednym z wielu miejsc sztuki, bo jest nim tak jak w różnych momentach dziejów były prehistoryczne groty, antyczne świątynie, chrześcijańskie kościoły, feudalne zamki, arystokratyczne pałace, mieszczańskie kamienice, domy aukcyjne, magazyny, galerie, atelier artystów; obecnie zaś – właśnie muzea, ale też uniwersytety, miasta w ogóle jako układy urbanistyczno-architektoniczne, fabryki, a nawet pojedyncze budynki, pracownie konserwatorskie i laboratoria je wspierające, no i wreszcie last but not least miejsce, gdzie pracuje współczesny twórca (tradycyjne atelier, biuro, sala informatyczna, squat, czy cokolwiek innego). Każde z nich tworzy osobny – chociaż przeplatający się z innymi – obszar, który ma własną historię sztuki i na swój sposób jest ona różna od innych.
The history of arts in a museum does not create a theory, but responds to detailed questions. In that way it always remains in direct relations with the core of the structure of the ‘museological sense’. First of all, it accompanies all the stages of creating collections, which include a preliminary analysis to assess acquisitions and a later evaluation of those acquisitions to catalogue them. The questions evident for a museologist are the ones concerning attribution, dating, iconography, technique and technology, stylistic features. The conclusions resulting from such examinations are the basis for the museum expositions. It is the essential aspect of the history of arts in museums. The aims of education in the sphere of the history of arts for the needs of museology might be presented in a similar way. This discipline marks the intellectual, cultural and artistic framework for museums, but it has to be transformed into what is called expertness. Education in museology is twofold, as it is not only the formation of workers (shaping and enriching them), but also the educational activity of the museum directed outwards, towards the audience. The history of arts offers an operational model – first of all – of its own classification according to the chronological and stylistic rules together with a specific universalism, aspiration for a holistic approach. The museum is a place of arts, but from a historical point of view it is one of many places of arts, because throughout the history places of arts were caves, ancient temples, Christian churches, feudal castles, aristocratic palaces, urban tenement houses of the bourgeoisie, auction houses, stores, galleries, artists’ ateliers; and now – just museums, but also universities, whole towns as urbanistic layouts, factories, even individual buildings, conservation workshops, and last but not least the places where the contemporary creator works (a traditional atelier, an office, a computer room, a squat, or whatever else). Each one of them creates a separate – although entwined with others – area, which has its own history of arts and in a way is different from all the others.

A growing number of arts therapists around the world work in schools, but information on their practices is limited. The aim of this work is to examine the theoretical influences and therapeutic trends prevalent in Czech educational institutions. Data obtained from 142 respondents were collected using the “Practice of Arts Therapies” questionnaire. Based on a statistical analysis of the responses, the results show that therapists prefer predominantly humanistic trends with a wide range of other therapeutic influences based on assimilative integration tendencies. Contrary to the initial assumptions, it was found that there is little difference in the preferences for trends in different work environments. The results can be used for international comparisons of arts therapies in the educational environment, as they seem to be an important area of interdisciplinary practice associated with education.

One of the manifestations of physical activity are martial arts. Modern research also concerns the problem of treating martial arts not only as a means of self defence, sport or how one spends their free time, but also as a therapy. Therapy throu gh traditional martial arts can help treat many medical disorders. It was acclaimed that participation in the traditional martial arts promotes mental health. It was noted that the sense of self - worth and self - esteem of competence is directly related to th e time spent doing training. Current studies show that the traditional martial arts are largely effective, complementary strategy of medical care and rehabilitation of chronic diseases. By watching yet another MMA event on the TV, seeing players’ faces bei ng hit and blood flowing on their bodies, it is worth to be aware that it’s just a spectacular event. The everyday life of people concerned with martial arts is different. Often times they undertake these exercises to improve their physical fitness and the quality of life. It is followed by taking responsibility for their health and not giving it exclusively to the doctor. This results in an active and rational fight agains any disease.

Fighting does not have to be associated only with brutality and violence. It can be a noble art of combating all evil, a way to develop valuable character traits, a form of effective defense of many values.

Cel badań. Celem pracy były rozważania dotyczące internalizacji zasad oraz filozofii sztuk i sportów walki wśród trenerów i instruktorów judo oraz mistrzów Pszczyńskiej Akademii Sztuk Walki. Materiał i metody. Badania przeprowadzono na terenie województwa śląskiego, małopolskiego oraz warmińsko-mazurskiego. Zastosowano dobór dostępności badanych, metodę sondażu diagnostycznego, technikę ankietową. Jako narzędzie wykorzystano anonimowy kwestionariusz. Składał się on ze zmodyfikowanych pytań, które wybrano z planu wywiadu bezpośredniego pogłębionego opracowanego przez Cynarskiego. Rozdano 68 kwestionariuszy, zebrano 39. Wyniki. Wszyscy respondenci prowadzący treningi w sekcjach Pszczyńskiej Akademii Sztuk Walki szczególną rolę w procesie nauczania sztuk walki przypisywali aspektom związanym z ich zasadami, filozofią, kulturą i tradycją. Dla 77,78% badanych związanych z judo ważniejszy był kontekst sportu niż sztuki. Przywiązanie do filozofii i zasad sztuk i sportów walki zadeklarowało jednak 79,49% ogółu badanych. Wnioski. Większość respondentów uwewnętrzniała etos sztuk i sportów walki. W większym stopniu dotyczyło to jednak mistrzów Pszczyńskiej Akademii Sztuk Walki niż trenerów i instruktorów judo.
Background. The purpose of the study were considerations concerning the internalization of the principles and philosophy of martial arts among judo trainers and instructors and the masters of the Pszczyna Academy of Martial Arts. Material and methods. The research was conducted in the Silesia, Lesser Poland, and Warmia-Masuria provinces in Poland. The selection of the availability of respondents, the diagnostic survey method, and the questionnaire technique were applied. An anonymous questionnaire was used as a tool. It consisted of modified questions, selected from the direct deepened interview plan developed by Cynarski. The total of 68 questionnaires were distributed, 39 were collected back. Results. All respondents training in the sections of the Pszczyna Academy of Martial Arts attributed a special role in the process of teaching martial arts to the aspects related to their principles, philosophy, culture, and tradition. For 77,78% of the participants bound with judo, the context of sport is more important than the art. However, adherence to the philosophy and principles of martial arts was declared by 79,49% of all respondents. Conclusions. The majority of the participants internalize the ethos of martial arts and combat sports, although this applies more to the masters of the Pszczyna Academy of Martial Arts than to the judo trainers and instructors.

W kolejnych częściach artykułu omówiono problematykę wychowania, motywację, która kieruje jednostkami podejmującymi się treningu sztuk walki, oraz wpływu treningu karate na rozwój nie tylko fizyczny, ale przede wszystkim osobowy człowieka. Filozofia karate skupia się na rozwoju wewnętrznym adeptów, samodoskonaleniu i pokonywaniu własnych słabości, przestrzeganiu zasad i dyscyplinie. Wyniki badań bezsprzecznie potwierdzają fakt, że trening karate sprzyja holistycznemu rozwojowi człowieka i posiada walory wychowawcze, a trener pełni istotną rolę w kształtowaniu wartości i postaw.
The aim of the article was to present the influence of martial arts on human development. The main focus was on karate. The introduction presents the understanding of martial arts and the historical background of karate. The following parts of the article discuss the issues of upbringing, the motivation that guides individuals undertaking martial arts training, and the impact of karate training on human development, not only in the physical, but, above all, in the personal aspect. The karate philosophy focuses on the inner development, self-improvement, overcoming one’s own weaknesses, adherence to rules, and discipline. The research results undoubtedly confirm the fact that karate training is conducive to holistic human development and has educational values, and that the trainer plays an important role in shaping the adepts’ values and attitudes.

Background. The broad humanistic and socio-cultural theoretical perspectives applied to this research effort provides a foundation for the Humanistic Theory of Martial Arts and the anthropological focus on martial arts used in this paper. Hence, conceptual language has been adopted for this investigation. The aim is to assess and identify the ethical values and pro-social perspectives accentuated by highranking masters in the martial art of jujutsu. Specifically, this paper seeks to answer the question of which values are most often prioritized or stressed? Method. The discussion involves the analysis of a broad survey of scientific and expert literature. Quoted and compared are the opinions and perspectives of 11 Grand Masters of jujutsu, holders of the highest titles and master's degrees (i.e, 9-10 dan), are analyzed and presented as evidence. Results. Classical schools and their representatives uniformly accentuate the value of tradition. On the other hand, there is a trend toward modernization both in the content of teaching and in technical ideas. This modernization began with Jigoro Kano, whose followers are today seen as reformers. All present Grand Masters pay attention to the ethical values and educational aspects of martial arts, particularly with regard to jujutsu. Conclusions. Ethics in jujutsu extends, as a kind of continuum between the traditionalist Butoku (i.e, knightly virtues resulting from Bushido) and the axiology of Christian Europe. A general consensus exists as to its educational and pro-social values. Aspects may also include self-control, self-discipline, perseverance, and responsibility, which are shaped by long-term educational processes.

Introduction: The study of athletes’ psychophysiological characteristics is one of the major problem at sports science. The aim of the study is to perform comparative analysis of athletes’ power and adaptive capacities during the implementation process of controlled activity, like performing screen -selection activity. Materials and methods: In research participated divided into 3 groups martial arts athletes: taekwondo ITF and karate WTF (n=34); Greco -Roman and freestyle wrestling athletes (n=18); sambo and judo athletes (n=11). As a device, a tablet of Apple company - iPad, fourth- generation, with 9,7 -inch screen was used. For the heart rate (HR) registration it was used BT4.0&ANT+ Heart Rate Mo nitor. Participants performed a sample: the response rate of the selection. The attempt was to react to one given signal from the five proposed. Results: Taekwon -do ITF athletes, karate WTF , hand -to - hand combat showed the best reaction selection time rates . The worst reaction selection time rates were shown by Greco- Roman and freestyle wrestling athletes. Conclusions: The handled comparative analysis reaction time of selection for athletes of different kinds of martial arts has verified its high informative value. Taekwondo ITF, karate WTF , hand -to -hand combat athletes have better results. The results suggest that participants’ state of adaptiveness was normal. The high informative value of used test allows recommend it as screening in the selection of prom ising athletes to the combat martial arts which mostly emphasize striking techniques.

Karate classes can positively affect the health of children and develop body and soul harmoniously. The purpose of the work is to examine the influence of physical ed ucation classes with a priority in application of oriental martial arts on the physical and psychophysical preparedness of preschool boys (n=71). Assessment of physical and psycho -physical preparedness for children was performed with the set of tests ( stan ding long jump , throws of the ball against the wall and catching it , flexion and extension of arms lying on the floor , jumping with a rope to fatigue , raising of the body from the initial supine position , squats, writing the letter “O”, claps, pronouncing of digits, keeping the “Flamingo” pose). The children from the experimental group (n=33) were trained by the program with the priority in application of karate. Children from control group had Physical Education classes according Ukrainian State program fo r preschooler children “Sure Start”. The physical state and the level of psycho -physical fitness were rated as average. The implementation of the physical education program with the priority in application of karate has proven its higher efficacy compared to the traditional one. The program contributed significantly to raising the level of physical and mental fitness, overall assessment increased from 3.0 to 4.8 points in the experimental group. Better discipline, greater attention, higher mental capacity and less fatigue of children who attended the author’s program confirm that the classes with the priority of karate application can promote the full readiness of children for school.

An important problem of the present is the preparation of young people to live among an increasing number of visual messages that come from the world of traditional and modern art and among visual messages from the media environment. In this situation, it is necessary to change early school art education from the traditional transfer of knowledge into educational settings through which students actively develop visual literacy. The artistic applications presented in the text, available on the websites of American museums, are one of the means leading to this goal. However, it should be emphasized that these applications should be a supplement rather than an alternative to school activities, and their selection and use must be carefully thought over.

In the trichotomous categorization of ‘pillars of security culture’, with said pillars being mental and spiritual (the first), organizational and legal (the second) and material pillar; FarEastern heritage can prove especially advantageous for the first pillar.

This article analyzes selected “speculative gestures” (Debaise, Stengers) in contemporary Polish performative arts which stage speculative ecologies. Speculative ecologies are different ways of thinking about ecology, alternative to the modern concept of nature as inert matter separated from humans and bereft of all agency. The analysis aims to unravel some nonanthropocentric modes of distributing agency between humans and nonhumans and ways of knowing they posit. The article focuses specifically on selcted hybrid projects emerging from a fusion of artistic strategies, scientific protocols and new technology design. Examples discussed here demonstrate how the initiators of such projects at the intersection of nature, culture and technology perform three types of speculative ecologies: by staging polyphonic assemblages (Lowenhaupt-Ting) as contingent encounters between human and nonhuman lifeways, by questioning received notions of natural environment, and by registering the agency of abiotic existents as proper ecological actors.

The literature of the Romantics, in the first part of the 19th century, is steeped in religious doubt. Moreover, the sacred was a taboo yet unavoidable subject especially in novels and short stories that were considered at the time profane genres. Romantic writers exploited certain covert strategies in order to speak of the unspeak-able and touch the untouchable. They resort, for instance, to their artistic culture with its centuries of pictorial tradition that render religious figures and events more familiar and accessible. Musset’s Le Tableau d’église, Vigny’s Daphné, and Gauthier’s La Toison d’or, all bear witness to a striking (meeting) harmony between iconoclastic and/or cavalier characters and sacred works of art that focus on the Passion. All three writers interweave aesthetic contemplation with mystical communion, thus revealing a new sense of the sacred that is often ambiguous, nay, subversive. And since sacred art is not in itself sacred, it allows writers to come very close to sacrilege in order to examine the fine line between the profane and the sacred.

After a historical and philosophical introduction, three examples of liberal education discourse are discussed: 1) ‘liberal arts’ vs. ‘liberal education’, 2) ‘liberal arts’ and ‘neoliberal arts’ and 3) descriptions of liberal education at Wagner College in 1970 and 2013. The article concludes with a general reflection on liberal education in the current educational landscape and a tentative agenda for using the critical discourse analysis toolbox in further studies.

This article is about audio description of works of art. The term audio description is defined at the beginning of the text, next there is a description of how AD began in the United States and in Poland. After that, the types of AD in works of art and the rules of its creating are presented. The following paragraphs are about translating paintings through the senses, that is the hearing (ekphrasis, soundpainting), the touch (miniature models, typhlographies, touch tours) the smell or the taste (specially prepared fragrance or taste composition). The article finishes with the author looking at AD in plastic arts in Muzeum Sztuki in Łódź and the Museum of the City of Łódź.

The article deals with the issue of the influence of the evolution of contemporary mass media on the behaviour of their recipients and creators. Former passive viewers – consumers of content now have an opportunity to become much more closely involved in the media message and become its active co‑creators thanks to various forms of interactive interpersonal communication. The aim of the paper is to analyse the opportunities and threats resulting from these processes, with a particular emphasis on the role of humans in creating and filtering the growing collections of content available in digital mass media.

Improvisation through the perspective of correspondence between the arts, that is on the romantic beliefs The article is devoted to the phenomenon of improvisation which is a characteristic aesthetic feature of the Romantic culture. Many nineteenth century artists regarded it as an embodiment of the issues that were of key importance for their period – among them, one finds the concept of genius or correspondence between the arts. On a few examples taken from the works of Chopin, Mickiewicz and Orłowski, the author reveals both the ways and the conditionings of the reception of the improvisory works, as well as the relations between the Romantic myth of improvisation and its artistic practice.

Introduction: Because of the fact that detailed data on the physiological characteristics of Pencak Silat are still limited. The primary purpose of this study to assess the physiological responses of Pencak Silat athletes and a secondary aim is to compare the physiological responses of Pencak Silat athletes with physiological responses of Taekwondo athletes. Material and Methods: This study has included 17 male junior martial art athletes (aged 15-16 years). This study requires all participants to completed one familiarization session and two experimental sessions. During the first session (laboratory condition), anthropometry was measured in the laboratory, and during the second session (on-court condition), the participants completed tests for anaerobic capacity (sprint test 60-m, vertical jump, push-ups, and sit-ups) and VO2max test. Results: The statistical analysis revealed no significant differences in anthropometry, vertical-jump, sit-ups, push-ups, and 60-m sprint results among TKD and PKS groups. Furthermore, the TKD group had significantly higher VO2max (p=0.015), when compared with the PKS group. Conclusion: The present investigation describes similar physiological characterizes, such as weight, height, BMI, BMR, body fat and also performances of vertical jump, situps, push-ups, and 60-m sprint tests among Taekwondo and Pencak Silat athletes. However, in comparison with junior Pencak Silat athletes, the junior Taekwondo athletes have better VO2max.

The article takes issue with the perceived space/gap between the multiple identities of mixed-heritage groups, as most of these people often pick and choose elements from all of their identities and amalgamate them into a cross-cultural whole. In recent years, such mixed-heritage groups in the U.K. have increasingly found cultural expression in Shakespeare. Focusing specifically on a number of recent Shakespearean productions, by what I term Brasian (my preferred term for British-Asians as it suggests a more fused identity) theatre companies, the article demonstrates how these productions employ hybrid aesthetic styles, stories, and theatre forms to present a layered Braisian identity. It argues that these productions not only provide a nuanced understanding of the intercultural map of Britain but are also a rich breeding ground for innovative Shakespeare productions in the U.K.

Some scholars define perfectionism as the relationship between one’s abilities and expectations. A strong emotional reaction to the discrepancy between these can be maladaptive and even lead to aggressive behaviour. The study covered 133 students and graduates of colleges around Poland, including 67 persons of various specialties in visual arts. In order to characterise perfectionism, the Polish version of the Goals and Work Habits Survey (Schuler, 1994) was used, while the tool called Inwentarz Psychologiczny Agresji [Aggression Psychological Inventory] (Gaś, 1980) was used for description of aggression. The aim of the study was to analyse the relationship between specific aspects of perfectionism and aggression in artistically gifted persons. The results of the study indicate that artistically gifted persons scored higher in respect of some aspects of perfectionism than persons from the control group. The assumption that the studied groups differ in terms of aggression syndrome has not been confirmed. The artistically gifted men differed from the control group men in terms of aspects of perfectionism and in terms of transferred aggression. No statistically significant differences in terms of perfectionism or aggression syndrome have been established between the women. Moreover, gender did not differentiate perfectionism in the group of artistically talented persons.

Combat sports and martial arts are in the first group of ri sk for sport injuries due to the direct contact of the opponents. The aim of this study was to estimate the specificity and the frequency of injuries in some combat sports: boxing, judo, jujitsu, and karate. The group of respondents was composed of 220 ra ndomly selected sportsmen at the age of 11 to 49 (24,0 ± 7,75 years old on average), who have trained martial sports for at least 3 years. The cases of 202 respondents who admitted to be injured within last 3 years were further analysed. The study was base d on the survey designed by the authors. The study shows that 92% of the participants were injured. The most frequent were foot injuries (18,8%), arm injuries (15,4 %); most of the injuries were bruises (50,6%). Injuries of the upper limbs were more freque nt among boxers, whereas the lower limbs areas were more vulnerable to injuries among athletes training judo, jujitsu, and karate. Boxers reported to recover from injury faster (87,2%) then judokas (68,8%). Those practicing jujitsu were most likely to rene w their injuries (43,5%), and judokas happened to renew their injuries less regularly (32,8%). Boxers tended to use preventive treatments most frequently, and jujitsu athletes admitted to do it the least often. We found that the groups prone to injuries th e most were judokas and karate athletes; boxers were found to be the most resistant to injuries. There are specific injuries with the highest frequency in the area of the arm and foot experienced by boxing, judo, jujitsu and karate athletes. Respondents wh o did not use any medical treatment after the injury recovered fastest; injuries appeared to renew among sportsmen who underwent medical treatment earlier. Preventive treatment was reported by both athletes who experienced injuries and the respondents who were not injured at all.

The article identifies the main characteristics and features of the artistic arrangement of representative public buildings in Vienna that influenced analogical objects of Lviv in the second half of the 19th century. The issue of Vienna’s historicism and its peculiarities in interior decoration are also considered. The research involved selecting and analyzing key public buildings that are present in both cities, such as theaters, universities, the Diet (in case of Vienna – the Parliament), museums, courts and other sites with a broad representative group of rooms. These revealed common trends, direct and indirect quotations, both in artistic elements and in the overall order composition. The article also explores major public buildings in Vienna along with architects who have become role models and set some standards for the artistic design of the representative group of rooms. As a result, the influencing factors were identified, among which administrative, educational, cultural and economic issues are highlighted and reviewed.

This essay investigates the notion of humour as a tool used to highlight the acts of self-censorship in theatre and performing arts and its subversive potential. By referring to the examples from the process of working on the Imaginary Europe performance directed by Oliver Frljić, the essay problematizes the acts of self-prevention committed by artists who decide to withdraw a certain figure of speech in order not to cause harm towards minorities or underprivileged groups. I revisit theories that tackle humour and reveal its complexity (Billig, McGowan and Zupančič), and I refer to the work of artists who combine humour with self-reflection in the process of undermining and questioning theatrical hierarchies and mechanisms of power.

Newly arrived (refugees, migrants, transmigrants, immigrants) children require a shiftin intergenerational storytelling. Intergenerational storytelling enables culturally and linguistically diverse emergent learners exposure to not only language but socio-cultural knowledge, values and practices. This study examines the intergenerational storytelling and art session held at a co-joined pre-school and elderly care home. There were 15 pre-school children aged 4-6, half of whom were newly arrived in Finland, and 4 Finnish elder storytellers. The theme of the project was to utilize everyday socio-cultural practices. The study used Pink’s visual semiotic and Kress’ multimodality for analysis. The research investigated two questions: 1) To what extent can intergenerational multimodal storytelling benefit transmigrant, immigrant community engagement and identity? 2) In a globalized world, how do children’s relationships with multimodalities create learning (language, socio-cultural practices)? Data was collected from qualitative pre - and post-session discussions from the six storytelling sessions, video recordings made by the participants, and multimodal artwork created by the children after each storytelling session. The results revealed transmigrant children engaged with components of stories that connected to their residency situation. Additionally, children represented themselves in the art as response to multimodal storytelling sessions. Interactive storytelling was effective means for socio-cultural interaction between pre-school children and elderly storytellers/people.

The article addresses the issue of artistic research in the field of performing arts with a particular emphasis on movement, dance, and choreographic practices, set in the Polish context. The problem is finding the optimal and efficient model of public funding. The development of an objective theatre funding model is a major challenge for both the entities developing as well implementing the cultural policy. The aim of this article is to identify the criteria/measures having the potential effect on the increase of the audience numbers in individual theatres in Poland. This aim is implemented using Multi Criteria Decision Making (MCDM), the result of which is to achieve full distribution of a set of variants (individual theatres) in accordance with the monitored criteria (audience numbers in a theatre). Our research found the important role of both financial and non-financial indicators among which technical indicators are essential. On this basis, the need to develop optimal allocation of public funds between theatres in terms of their technical capabilities or infrastructure should be considered.
Znalezienie optymalnego, wydajnego modelu finansowania publicznych usług kulturalnych jest problematyczne. Wypracowanie obiektywnego modelu finansowania teatrów stanowi ogromne wyzwanie dla podmiotów zarówno kształtujących, jak i realizujących politykę kulturalną. Celem artykułu jest wskazanie kryteriów i miar mających potencjalny wpływ na kształtowanie się liczby widzów w poszczególnych teatrach w Polsce. Cel osiągnięto za pomocą modelu wielokryterialnej analizy wariantów. Badania dowiodły istotnej roli kryteriów zarówno finansowych, jak i pozafinansowych, wśród których podstawową rolę odgrywa kryterium techniczne. Na tej podstawie należy rozważyć konieczność tworzenia optymalnego podziału środków publicznych między teatry z uwzględnieniem ich możliwości technicznych czy infrastrukturalnych.

One of the functions of art is understanding an individual and his or her potential. Art provides an individual with proper conditions and gives new opportunities to function regardless of one’s age and disability. The purpose of this article is to get the reader acquainted with the significance of qualitative research especially in the context of arts-based research in special needs education and music therapy. In theoretical part, the authoress will attempt to answer the question of what benefits this research method brings and why it is useful. What is to be described at the beginning quite extensively is the situation of research in special education and music therapy as a scientific discipline. This presentation will smoothly lead the reader to the essence of article, i.e. the arts-based research method. The definitions of arts-based research will be presented together with differences resulting from defining the notions connected with art. Examples will also be provided of research based on art resulting from the combination of two disciplines such as special needs education and music therapy. Moreover, the authoress will demonstrate her own research based on art with the application of music which emphasizes the significance of changes that occur within the music therapy process. Finally, the arguments which emphasize the significance of artsbased research will be mentioned.

The Royal Academy of Arts Library in London is the oldest artistic library in Great Britain. History of the library is strictly connected with the development of the Academy itself. The origin of the library dates back to 1768, when the Royal Academy was established. The current collection of RA Library includes 65 000 books, which can be divided into several thematic collections. The Library is responsible for digitization and access to the Art Collection of the Royal Academy of Arts. This work presents the history, development of the book collection and current activity of the Royal Academy Library in London in connection with the 250 years of history of the Royal Academy of Arts.

I have yet to be persuaded that what arts therapists are doing with their clients either actually counts as art—rather than an applied form of occupational therapy—or seems likely to have any long-term effect on easing their suffering, other than by distraction and temporary companionship. I don’t for a moment doubt the relevance of the arts, properly so called, for individual and collective wellbeing—one of the aims of this paper is to spell out what that might mean—but an art practice structured around the conventions of psychoanalysis seems to me entirely mistaken because, as a basis of legitimacy, it favours rationality and modelling over feeling and making good things. Rational, analytical ways of knowing are a direct contradiction to the intuitive and imaginative procedures of art, where touch rather than talk does all the work. The arts offer to effect change in the patient from within rather than from without, via empathetic attunement between the therapist and the patient rather by than argument and persuasion on the one hand or compliance on the other.
Nie jestem do końca przekonany, że to co zwykle arteterapeuci robią ze swoimi klientami jest rzeczywiście sztuką a nie pewną formą terapii zajęciowej. Również nie mam pewności, czy te działania mogą mieć jakikolwiek długotrwały wpływ na złagodzenie ich cierpienia, inny niż tylko ten, który osiągamy poprzez zwykłe przesunięcie uwagi i zapewnienie chwilowego towarzystwa w działaniu. Przy czym ani na chwilę nie zwątpiłem w istotny związek sztuki z indywidualnym i zbiorowym dobrostanem, z zastrzeżeniem, że mówimy o tych formach i aktywnościach, które zostały sztuką nazwane właściwie. Jednym z celów tego tekstu jest wyartykułowanie, jak można rozumieć to znaczenie. Praktyka arteterapeutyczna zbudowana wokół konwencji, którymi posługuje się psychoanaliza wydaje mi się całkowicie błędna, ponieważ u legitymizujących ją podstaw, leży racjonalność i modelowanie, które są przedkładane nad odczuwanie i tworzenie dobrych artystycznych form. Racjonalne, analityczne sposoby poznawania widzę jako całkowite zaprzeczenie intuicyjnych i wyobrażeniowych procedur poznawania w sztuce, gdzie - jak jestem przekonany - dotyk [ang. touch] a nie rozmowa, ma znaczenie terapeutyczne. Sztuka oferuje zmianę w pacjencie raczej w działaniach prowadzonych “od wewnątrz” niż “z zewnątrz” procesów twórczych. Jest to możliwe dzięki empatycznemu zestrojeniu terapeuty z pacjentem, a nie dzięki argumentom i perswazjom z jednej strony a posłuszeństwu z drugiej.

The South African art is not uniform. It expresses cultural and civilization diversity of the country. In characterization of the art of white people in South Africa the article focuses above all on the fine arts (on painting and sculpture) but architecture, theatre and music were as taken into consideration. The art of white people in South Africa was being created and formed in specific conditions, far away from Europe. Although the art was powerfully influenced by Europe, especially in the initial period. In the beginning it was also very elite and quite impenetrable. It was not almost opened to the cultural heritage of the other inhabitants of South Africa. Together with the industrialization, increasing prosperity of white population, especially in the 20th century, significant development of the art of white people in this country occurred. At that time, artists derived inspirations as well from the African art. This art was creating its own and genuine style and some trends were strongly supported by authorities in Pretoria.

The meaning of the notion of martial arts is very extensive. It concerns many phenomena at the plane of culture, psychology, science of physical culture and other fields. The object of this work is to present the widely - understood martial arts regarded as the leading motif in many film genres - some representations were supposed to scare a viewer, some others to entertain. In this interpretation sketch we draw attention to an important role of a film as a medium that inspires people to undertake some activi ties, popularizes a healthy life - style, and remains the source of entertainment and knowledge about the culture of the Far East. The following films have undergone analysis: Enter the Dragon (1973, directed by B. Lee, R. Clouse), Crouching Tiger, Hidden D ragon 2000, directed by A Lee), Shaolin Soccer (2001, directed by S. Chow) and Beverly Hills Ninja (1997, directed by D. Dugan).

Cyprian Kamil Norwid był jednym z najbardziej inspirujących i wielowymiarowych twórców XIX wieku w polskiej literaturze i sztuce. Jego spuścizna obejmuje poezję, prozę, dramat, malarstwo, rysunek, grafikę, próby rzeźbiarskie. Artysta reprezentował typ dziewiętnastowiecznego erudyty o szerokich horyzontach intelektualnych i wszechstronnym wykształceniu. Interesował się m.in.: historią idei, filozofią, religioznawstwem, językoznawstwem, historią sztuki, mitologią, heraldyką, literaturą polską i obcą, antykiem, kulturą śródziemnomorską, dziejami cywilizacji aż do rewolucji przemysłowej. W jego dorobku artystycznym można wyróżnić kilka stałych, powtarzających się, intertekstualnie ze sobą powiązanych kręgów tematyczno-ikonograficznych, tj.: motywy związane z historią i kulturą starożytną, ikonografia i myśl religijna, motywy literackie, przedstawienia alegoryczno-symboliczne (np. zagadnienia metafizyczne, archetypy człowieka – wędrowca, starca, mędrca, artysty itp.), przedstawienia animalistyczne, karykatury. Interdyscyplinarna spuścizna Norwida charakteryzuje się dążeniem do integracji, harmonijnego i spójnego połączenia aktu artystycznego z poglądami na świat i życie.
Cyprian Kamil Norwid was one of the most inspiring and multidimensional 19th century artists in the Polish literature and art. His legacy covers poetry, prose, drama, painting, drawing, graphics and sculpture attempts. The artist represented a type of 19th erudite of vast intellectual horizons and comprehensive education. He was among others interested in the history of ideas, philosophy, religious studies, history of arts, mythology, heraldry, Polish and foreign literature, antiquity, Mediterranean culture, history of civilization until the industrial revolution. Within his artistic legacy one can list a few constant, repeated, intertextually connected with one another thematic areas – iconographic, i.e. motives connected with ancient history and culture, iconography and religious thought, literary motives, allegoric and symbolic presentations (e.g. metaphysic issues, archetypes of a man - wanderer, old man, wise man, artist, etc.), animalist presentations, caricature. Norwid’s interdisciplinary legacy is characterised by striving after integration, harmonious and coherent combination of an artistic act with views on the world and life.

Posługując się dopowiedzeniami sztuk pięknych oraz teoretycznymi ujęciami minionych epok, autorka podejmuje próbę holistycznej eksplikacji eterycznej poezji poświęconej Chopinowi. Stawia czytelnika przed kategoriami semantycznymi takimi jak żal, narodowość, ideał, czy estetycznymi jak piękno, zarysowując pewne cechy wspólne oraz indywidualne literackiej recepcji Chopina. Publikacja ta stanowi unikatowe, poetyckie wcielenie correspondance des arts nie mające paraleli wśród chopinologicznej literatury.
Irena Poniatowska’s latest publication represents an attempt to grasp the inexpressible and the transcendental in Chopin reception by means of symbolic metaphors. Drawing on parallels from the fine arts and theoretical concepts from the past, the author attempts a holistic exegesis of ethereal verse devoted to Chopin. She discusses such semantic categories as nostalgia, nationality and the ideal, as well as aesthetic categories like beauty, indicating both common and individual features of Chopin’s reception in literary works. The book is a unique study of the correspondance des arts, without parallel in the Chopin literature.

Objectives of the research: This study investigates art education as a means of cultivating cultural values and aims to address questions regarding the methodologies employed in previous research on cultural values. The research presented herein constitutes a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) on cultural education, utilizing the PRISM method adopted in 2020. Research methods: This article conducts a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) on cultural education using the PRISM method adopted in 2020. The search was conducted using Perish or Publish (PoP) for Scopus-indexed international journals and the Garuda portal from the Ministry of Education and Culture, focusing on journals indexed in Sinta. Contextual Background: Because the cultural processes continually evolve in response to the forces that influence culture, cultural acculturation serves as a foundation for arts and cultural workers’ efforts to inculcate the values of local wisdom within educational settings. Research findings: Data collection spanned from 2010 to 2022, resulting in the retrieval of 14 international articles and 16 national articles based on their titles and abstracts, totaling 30 articles. These articles originated from various countries, including Belgium, the Czech Republic, Germany, Korea, Poland, Taiwan, China, Istanbul, Slovenia, Turkey, Estonia, and Indonesia. Analysis of the articles revealed that music arts education constituted 27%, arts and culture 33%, local wisdom 14%, dance education 17%, art education 3%, and theatre education 3%. In terms of research methodologies, the study identified action research at 5%, Research and Development at 10%, quantitative research at 10%, qualitative case study research at 7%, literature review at 7%, and qualitative research at 56%. Conclusions and recommendations: Through this SLR, the researcher aims to pave the way for future in-depth research in arts and culture education or for exploring novel approaches.

The article focuses on intertextual relationships observed between literature and painting. The visual and linguistic systems comprising these art forms belong to different semiotic codes, which materialise through secondary modelling systems. The modelling systems, in turn, consist of relational signs and are governed by rules allowing for alternative modes of combination. The relational signs are ontologically discrete and, as a result, have a greater connotative than denotative potential. The rules of combination are restricted by literary genres, composition, and a painting perspective that constitute the macrostructure of a text. The aim of the article is to present how languages and visual signs express the same mental operations and establish an intertextual dialogue in a literary and visual text. The premise of the study is the assumption that a word and a picture are equivalent and translatable. Therefore, the grounds for their description should be the composition of signs and its relationship with other texts of culture, not the form that constitutes them

Introduction: Distance between competitors in fighting sports and their target have an influence on kinematics of motion and as an consequence, its effectiveness. Therefore, the aim of this study is to extent the knowledge about influence of effective distance affects velocity of an object after hit. Material and Methods: Analysis were performed based on captured data of a male competitor with black belt in taekwondo (age: 20 yrs., body mass: 65kg, height: 171 cm). During data capturing, he performed sport punch strike 3 times with his left upper limb, and 3 times with the right one. The target was a ping pong ball. Data capturing was performed in HML (Human Motion Lab). Results: Velocities of sport punch strike were in range from 6.20 -8.01 m/s. Significant increase in passed momentum to the object were in -between 1.12 -1.73 % of effective distance. However, when effective distance were in -between 3.70 -3.95%, there were significant decrease (nearly half) in velocity of hit object. Conclusions: Our findings allows to formulate assumptions for further analysis, which states, that when maximum velocity of a punch occurs closer to the moment of hitting a target ( ∆ d), the higher it will be in a moment of that hit (r=0.95; p<0.01). Therefore, it allows to assume, that the lower will be a value of ∆ d, the higher will be destructive force for target ( ∆ E).

Obecnie powstało wiele federacji mieszanych sztuk walki, które organizują gale sportowe, pozwalające obserwować najlepszych zawodników wywodzących się z różnych dyscyplin sportów i sztuk walki. Obserwacja takich walk pozwala wskazać kierunek nowych rozwiązań taktycznych, a także ocenić efektywność różnych działań technicznych poprzez analizę głównych parametrów walki. Celem przeprowadzanych badań jest próba wskazania głównych elementów technik zapaśniczych stosowanych przez najlepszych zawodników MMA, kategorii wagowej welterweight federacji UFC i Bellator. Materiał badań stanowił zapis dziesięciu walk czołowych zawodników wagi welterweight (do77 kg) federacji UFC i Bellator. Do analizy wybrano ostatnie wygrane walki, pięciu czołowych zawodników w rankingu obu federacji. Obliczeń dokonano na podstawie cyfrowego zapisu walk udostępnionego przez Ultimate Fighting Championships oraz Fightnig Championships Bellator w latach 2014-2016. Ogólnie przyjęty, pogląd zakłada, że techniki zapaśnicze odgrywają znaczącą rolę w walkach MMA. Analiza walk czołowych zawodników federacji UFC i Bellator wskazuje że podstawowym elementem, który należy doskonalić zarówno w ataku jak i w obronie są zejścia do nóg (65% wszystkich działań zapaśniczych).
Nowadays there are a number of mixed martial arts federations that organize sports events to watch the best athletes from different sports and martial arts. Observation of such fights allows to point the direction in new tactical solutions, as well as evaluate the effectiveness of various technical activities by analyzing the main combat parameters. The purpose of the research is to point the main elements of wrestling techniques used by the best MMA athletes, the welterweight category of the UFC and Bellator federations. The study material was a record of ten leading fighters of the welterweight weight (to77 kg) of the UFC and Bellator federations. For the analysis, there were chosen the last fights of the top five winners in both federations rankings. The calculations were based on the fights digital record provided by the Ultimate Fighting Championships and the Fightnig Championships Bellator from 2014 to 2016. Generally accepted opinion is that wrestling techniques play a significant role in MMA. The fights analysis of the leading athletes in the UFC and Bellator federations indicates that the basic element that should be improved, in both attack and defense, is getting down footsteps (65% of wrestling).

The purpose of training in ju-jitsu is developing characteristic adaptation to physical activity and optimizing body functions so as to obtain maximal achievements. A means to an end is mastering the fighting technique and develop the essential level of special physical fitness. The aim of this paper was to determine the influence of a modified circuit training conducted according to an original program on level of special physical fitness of ju-jitsu trainees. Ju-jitsu trainees having similar somatic parameters and training experience (3-5 years) were included in the research. 30 participants between the age of 21 and 28 have been selected by means of a purposeful selection. On the basis of different variants of a circuit training and governed by the guidelines of a functional training for trainees, we have developed a training programme which aims to develop special strength, stamina and speed skills. STATISTICA PL software was used to compile the results. In order to determine statistical significance of differences between pre- and posttest measurements in the evaluated group of Ju-Jitsu contestants, a t-test for related groups was used. In conclusion, the proposed training programme proceeds at a high level of intensity, which resembles start activity (which is indicated by the heart rate frequency measurement and lactic acid blood concentration) and may be used in ju-jistu training. The experimental training programme has exerted positive influence on the participants’ with respect to the number of movements made, which can affect their effectiveness in fight.

Problem. Is it possible to apply the principles of martial arts in life, in professional practice, and in management? We will check it on the example of Professor Kazimierz Obodyński. Method. The author uses the method of participant observation (1987–2015), document analysis, and content literature analysis. Results. Judo practice took place, but essentially the path of “spiritual jujutsu and judo” was implemented, which was associated with management and activities in various scientific and social organizations. Conclusions. In the analyzed case of Professor Kazimierz Obodyński, applying the principles of martial ways in life, in professional practice, and in managing various institutions proved to be possible and effective.

By the function of the arts, I understand the role that is ascribed to disciplinary organized knowledge in domain of the humanities, the role which they play in the making of diagnosis of the culture in statu nascendi. There is no better way of emphasizing the connection between functions and aims of the arts as to emphasize historicity of culture and historicity of its interpretation. Herbert Rosendorfer in The Architect of Ruins provided an excellent portrait of this doubled historicity. In the parable of merchant, who makes an attempt at selling the collection of sculptures, he has showed how our culture is desynchronized in its modes of temporal organization. The common elements of culture are inherited in manifold, complex, non-monotonous and frangible sequences of times, which are never synchronized. There is no single temporal arrangement of a culture, and everybody who wants to recover original harmony is confronted with confusions. In the arts, there are two main strategies to cope with this situation. First, hermeneutical strategy, consists in combining the aim and function of the arts in a way, in which compensative function of the arts is bound with the aim of self-cognition, whereas the second, “archaeological” one (in the Foucauldian meaning), in opposition to hermeneutics, postulates disfamiliarization of culture as a means of preserving the aims of the arts consisting in objectivity of knowledge.

The purpose of this article is to define the possible meanings and connotations of musical compositions and their conversion into the lingual substance of poetry. Since the issue is varying internally and always needs particular examples, the undertaken analysis concerns two pieces of art: Fountain of Arethusa by a Polish composer Karol Szymanowski and a sonnet of the same title written by his friend and relative, writer Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz. Firstly, the matter of literary title and its associations is compared in both pieces, which leads to conclusion that while the name of composition generates loose and imprecise connotations, literature requires more specification, nonetheless both the composer and the poet understand mythical subject alike and reception of the work of the latter is based on emotional and semantic qualities similar to those included in the composition. Then, the subject of musical genre is depicted, with emphasis placed on literary connotations and their implications in the process of transcription of music into words. As the poet uses sonnet, which apparently has got poor connections to music, the motives of such choice are enumerated, including significance in European culture and interior dichotomy, both of which one can find in Szymanowski’s work. Further, the article describes relations between music character indications in musical score and particular lexemes in the poem. Musical work can exist in literature in many ways, first of which is being a theme of objective or subjective description. Such illustration of music in the poem is analysed. Then the euphonious and rhythmic features of the text are described in order to prove that music exists in the sonnet in its sound as well as being a scheme which is reinterpreted and imitated by the writer. The analysis shows that although one cannot translate musical matter into words, it is impossible to ignore many intersemiotic correlations between music and literature. Every example of such coexistence– either on the ground of semantics or form – must be studied individually.

In this article, I would like to make an attempt at a kind of return (probably incomplete and limited) to a unique, due to the potential of its content and forms, process of education of a child through visual arts (optical arts, visual arts) that allows the child to perceive, understand and create the surrounding iconosphere, gradually acquiring competences connected with “visual literacy”. The activities that foster such an activity of the child do not abandon the traditional assumptions of “education through art”, but complement them with new challenges and perspectives. The area of analysis, pointing to theoretical foundations and a review of literature, is reduced in the article to a discourse on the importance of visual literacy as one of the basic human competences and the possibility of using the potential of visual arts in the process of preparing children, already at the level of middle and late childhood, to become visually competent persons in the future.
W artykule podjęto próbę swoistego powrotu (zapewne niepełnego i ograniczonego) do unikalnej, ze względu na potencjał jej treści i form, edukacji dziecka przez sztuki wizualne (optical arts, visual arts), pozwalającej mu odbierać, rozumieć i kreować otaczającą je ikonosferę, stopniowo zdobywając kompetencje związane z „alfabetyzacją wizualną”. W działaniach sprzyjających takiej aktywności dziecka nie rezygnuje się z tradycyjnych założeń „edukacji przez sztukę”, lecz uzupełnia się je o nowe wyzwania i perspektywy. Obszar analiz wskazujący na podstawy teoretyczne oraz przegląd badań sprowadza się w artykule do dyskursu o znaczeniu alfabetyzacji wizualnej, jako jednej z podstawowych kompetencji człowieka oraz możliwości wykorzystania potencjału sztuk wizualnych w procesie przygotowania dzieci, już na poziomie średniego i późnego dzieciństwa, do stawania się w przyszłości osobami kompetentnymi wizualnie.

Referring to history of photography, this article presents extending range of photography use, which concerns among others application in scientific research, printing industry and art. Increase in availability of this new medium caused that it has become object of common art education. Analysis of current curricula allows to present concepts for educating teachers.

Purpose: The paper takes up the problem of project management from a historical-philosophical perspective. Methodology: The main method is a critical analysis of literature on the subject. Findings: The article draws attention to the mechanism for creating new methods of project management. This article presents a cycle of lyrical works entitled Z motywów Chopina (From Chopin’s themes) by Artur Oppman, published in 1893 in the volume Pieśni (Songs). The shape of this cycle had been modified over the years. In 1908, the poet changed its title and expanded it with new works. This change testifies to the evolution of the creative concept and the set of ideas about the function of the composer’s work. Contrary to the opinion rooted in the tradition of research about the conventional approach to the impact of Chopin’s work presented in Oppman’s lyrical poetry, the authors of the article demonstrate a far-reaching originality of the discussed work, focusing their attention both on issues related to understanding the narrowly-defined poetological knowledge and on the problem of translating musical means of expression into the language of a literary work.

The paper presents selected phenomena of intertextuality, interdiscoursiveness, and corres-pondence of arts in contemporary literature, especially Polish. In spite of intertextuality being a category well recognized in the contemporary theory of literature, it seems rarely developed nowadays, so there is no need to present well known and classic theoretical concepts. Both intertex-tual and interdiscoursive literary practices, the latter understood as creating dialogical or polemical relations among discourses, are widespread, especially in postmodernism and late modernism, and the phenomenon of the correspondence of arts can also be considered an aspect of intertex-tuality. This article focuses on the selected examples of intertextual references (mainly allusions and stylization) in sound realization of ideas (versification), composition and genre conventions, as well as relations between literature and philosophy, especially those of parodic character con-ceived — according to the classic concept of Linda Hutcheon — as a repetition with critical distance, which marks difference rather than similarity. Philosophical parody is characterized by ambiguity (repetition means acceptance, parodic exaggeration gives critical distance) towards philosophical schools and academic discourse of philosophy. Selected phenomena are presented on the examples from texts by Julian Tuwim, Cyprian Kamil Norwid, Marian Piechal, Tomasz Różycki, Witold Gombrowicz, Sławomir Mrożek, Robert Coover, Stanisław Lem, Wystan Hugh Auden, Hans Magnus Enzensberger, Stefan Themerson, and Leszek Kołakowski.

Ego tango is the debut novel by a Belgian writer, Caroline de Mulder. In 2010, it won the most significant literary award in the country. The story is set in a closed circle of the Paris tango dancers. The present study examines the original narration of the novel and the construction of the plot, which are both subordinated to the introvert nature of the tango – a dance that becomes an addiction and an obsession. De Mulder’s text is an interesting example of a theoretical problem of the “correspondence of arts,” their mutual overlapping and co-dependence; in this particular case, literature and dance. This concerns both the music and the lyrics of the tangos, which constitute and integral component of the structure of the musical piece and determine the rhythm of the story being told, its atmosphere, mood and type of the relationship between the protagonists. The novel was inspired by the personal experience of the authoress – a tango dancer and was structured in accordance with the nature and the spirit of this dance.

The purpose of the study is to present the principles of education in the field of book art as part of applied graphics, provided at the Academies of Fine Arts in Krakow and Warsaw. These two academic environments stimulated revival of this type of education. The analysis pertains to 1945–1952 when Poland witnessed crucial political and ideological changes affecting a new character of education. In the study, the process of nationalisation of artistic education is presented. The author shares her assumptions of the new teaching curricula designed in accordance with the ideological needs of the communist authorities. Marxism-Leninism was taught as a foreground subject. Graphic departments were established to educate specialists to be employed by the state propaganda. An attempt has been made to reconstruct the personal composition of the graphic faculties lecturers in both academic centres.

This article discusses various aspects of rock musical, focusing on its relationship with the aesthetics of rock music. The introduction provides a methodological approach to this type of a musical theatre work. The existing concepts related to this term are presented, a distinction is made between the category of rock opera and rock musical, and an original definition of this subgenre is proposed. The next section explores the relationship between rock music and rock musical in terms of authenticity. Differences and similarities in the performing practice are presented for both artistic forms along with their sound representations. The final section of the article analyses two prominent musicals created in the early stages of the subgenre development – Hair and Jesus Christ Superstar. Having set certain boundary conditions for fusing rock with theatre, both productions are analysed for their structural components appropriate for the musical form (musical elements, dramatic elements of the work) in combination with rock aesthetics and the performance of this type of work on stage.

Combat is a complicated and complex phenomenon. In this process we take actions of different degree of effectiveness. Assessment of these behaviours and understanding the underlying mechanisms are the basis for a sport program created to increase the fighter’s competitive level. Competent trainers know that there are five elements that influence a result of a sport fight: being familiar with the rules of the sport fight, strategy, stance, dodging and blocking and applying techniques while you are in motion. Many inquisitive trainers wonder: why a competitor with a great technique, could not apply it during a tournament? Why a competitor who usually does excellent during exercises cannot repeat the same things during the competition? Why the competitor’s results change (during one tournament victories are achieved and medals are granted while on other occasions he or she loses even to a weaker opponent) ? Supreme trainer is usually a good teacher and observer. Coach pays attention to learners’ mistakes, and tries to correct them. The concept of free sparing enables to break down the process of scoring points. When analyzing a fight it helps to notice, which of the preparation components are insufficient and what else needs to be improved. This is a great tool for a competent trainer, which helps to understand the real, often hidden cause of failure. Appropriate preparation for the fight has many interrelated aspects. But understanding the core of the problem is a first step to find a recipe for victory. We need to remember that record achievements and spectacular victories result from hard and wise work of the trainer and the competitor.

The article discusses the intertextual relationship between the poster by Marian Nowiński, Otello Desdemona, and the content of Shakespeare’s play, while presenting the most important elements of the plot that are decisive for the portrayal of Desdemona. It also discusses the tradition of female nudes in Western art. This allows to usher out these characteristic features of elements of Desdemona that fashion her into Venus Caelestis and Venus Naturalis. The article focuses on the ambivalence of Nowiński’s poster and discusses the significance of the paintings by Titian, Giorgione, and Fuseli in designing the figure of Desdemona as a goddess.

The article addresses the question of African inspirations in the works of African-American artists. In the poem Heritage Countee Cullen asks: “What is Africa to me?”. The authors of the article attempt to expand the discourse on curatorial practices in the field of performing arts by introducing the notion of shared room. By making reference to their own experience in curating, they create a metaphor which serves both as a tool for describing the precarious position of curators and for designing alternative strategies of doing this work based on the ideas of solidarity, relationality and sharing. In the first part the authors present their understanding of curatorial practice situating it in the context of those definitions of curating that they recognise as dominating in the Polish context. The second part of the article deals with four aspects of the shared room metaphor: its relational ontology; the precarious condition of its inhabitants; the strategies of sharing employed in it; and the reproductive work done in it and understood as creative practice.

Purpose. The aim of the publication is to present the issue of the content of the Polish scientific journal,,Ido Movement for Culture. Journal of Martial Arts Anthropology “on the example of the first five years (2011‒2015) of its existence. This will probably get at least partial answers to questions about 1) the impact of possible thematic diversity on the development of Polish scientific periodicals in the context of their internationalization, among others, through databases grouping this type of journale and 2) the legitimacy – from the point of view of modern science – the functioning of this type of journales. Introduction. The subject of the article is set in the context of the sociology of knowledge, and scientific information on the development of contemporary periodicals. The object of the research is a journal devoted to physical culture, cultural tourism and selected humanities sciences (philosophy, sociology, history, pedagogy and psychology), which emerged from another journal,,Ido – Movement for Culture” wchich was appeared in 2000‒2010. The periodical, on an international scale, is relatively small group of scientific journals directed towards themed arts and sports (less combat-type systems) fight. It is published by the the Scientific Research Committee of Idokan Poland Association, under the auspices of, among others, International Martial Arts and Combat Sports Scientific Society and the International Association of Sport Kinetics, in cooperation with several other institutions (eg. University of Rzeszow). Methodology. Methodology. The research method used elements of content analysis (also with elements of quantitative and qualitative content analysis). The data obtained are assigned to the appropriate category designated content of the contents is tested journals and categorization carried out by the same editorial team and publisher. Also analyzed the structure of the authors, both due to its titles and degrees, as well as the so-called. factor internationalization. We studied the types of publications posted there. Conclusions. The results indicate the diversity of thematic journal tested for this subject, together with mergers content considered by the authors in interdisciplinary shots. At the same time, you can draw conclusions about the ongoing development of this journal presented both in terms of content and the presence of the most important bases grouping the best scientific journals.

Authors have presented and discussed the content of the Budo Charter, positioning it in social phenomenon forming a system of security culture. This is modernized ethics canon and a kind of credo showing today’s social mission, which is implemented by the transmission of Japanese martial arts of budo. Triangulated problem analysis was carried out from three perspectives – humanist theory of martial arts, security sciences and anthropology of martial arts. It was concluded that the content contained in the Budo Charter are elements of security culture, which show continuous up-to-date ideals carried since ancient times by the honorable Samurai code bushido and its manual application, which is a collection of martial arts of budo from the Japanese Islands.

Japan belongs to those countries that arouse more attention in other parts of the world. Despite the fascination that inspires rich culture of Japan and being its essential part, the possessions in the feld of martial arts Budo, this country has not yet been thoroughly understood by the people of the West. Japanese "martial arts" laymen associated with monolithic, but it does not constitute solid system. All their values are based on man's relation to nature. High impact on them also have ancient concepts developed in the circles of ancient cultures of Asia (Far East) in different periods of its history. The very concept of "martial arts" until recently, it was not precisely defined.

The article describes the unique experience of the reconstruction of the Trinity Church (with the New Martyrs side-altar) in the Goretovo village, based in Mozhaisk area (nearby of the Moscow region). The author demonstrates a non-standard, innovative approach of the abandoned Church revitalization, which manifested in the method of the lost volume reconstruction and the new system organization of painting and decorating. The experience of the reconstruction of the Goretovo Church is useful in terms of understanding the complex relationship of creative freedom, the canonical framework and conservation standards.

The significant amount of scientific sources on the problems of integrative artistic education and polyart education are presented and analyzed in the article. The conceptual grounds of polyart approach, as well as psychological, general artistic and educational processes are examined in the article. The features of polyart education ecosystem are enlightened. The author reveals the peculiarities of different kinds of arts’ integration in the students’ polyart development. Analyzing the definitions proposed by various scientists he gives his own definition of the concept “polyart education”, which represents a systemic process, as wells as the aim of polyart education.

The aim of this article is to analyse the legal status of the Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences, an entity operating within the system of higher education and science. The study explores the Academy’s origins, its legal form and role it plays within the system of higher education and science, and its rights and obligations under the law. The findings presented in the paper allow for drawing conclusions on the legal status of the Academy, in particular recognising that it is a legal person functioning in the legal form of a (registered) association, and at the same time an organisation directly included by the legislator in the category of entities of the system of higher education and science. The study indicates the reasons justifying the Academy’s inclusion in the catalogue of entities of this system, primarily its exceptional achievements in the field of scientific activities and popularising their results, as well as the universality of undertaken activities, tradition and reputation within the scientific community.

In the present article I use the terminology introduced by Svetlana Boym of restorative nostalgia and reflective nostalgia regarding works of contemporary fine art. Restorative nostalgia implies an effort to revive the past – but without acknowledging that the desired and idealized past never existed, therefore it cannot be restored, either. I illustrate the application of this concept through the “new-academic” direction in today’s contemporary Hungarian fine arts. The reflective nostalgia is aware of the idealizing momentum of the desired past, it reflects critically upon its own desires, and it highlights possibilities in the past regarding the present – often playfully or with irony. I illustrate the latter through the works of the Chinese Ai Wei Wei and the Romanian Mircea Cantor. I argue that reflective nostalgia is not a fruitless burial into the past, but a resource for processing the passing of time in a creative manner.

Na podstawie poglądów znanych historyków i krytyków sztuki z połowy XX wieku (Read, Fiedler, Focillon, Raphael, Francastel) autor uzasadnia cel tej ustawicznej edukacji, która dotyczy nie tylko młodych adeptów sztuki, architektury i projektowania. Zdobywanie doświadczenia artystycznego poprzez owe studium przyczynia się do rozwoju osobowości twórczej, umiejętności kompozycji formy, jej przekształcania, organizowania na płaszczyźnie i w przestrzeni konkretnych i wyobrażonych obiektów i zjawisk.
In the article the author presents numerous arguments referring to value stemming from learning and acquiring nature study skill. Particularly from developing skill of study, analyses and synthesis of natural form. Referring to views of wellknown art historians and critics of the mid of the 20th century (such as Read, Fiedler, Ficillon, Raphael, Francastel), the author justifies the aim of this constant education, which refers not only to the apprentice of arts, architecture and design. Acquiring the artistic experience through the mentioned study, results in development of artistic individuality, ability of form composition, of its transformation, of arranging concrete and imagined objects and phenomena in plane and space.

People with intellectual disabilities (IDs) are often recognised as suffering from “social exclusion”. Attempts aimed at combating this exclusion include support in finding employment and preparing them for living independently. Unfortunately, for a large group of people with intellectual disabilities the aforementioned strategies of promoting social inclusion are unattainable, and thus alternative areas of social inclusion are sought after. The arts/artistic work may be one of them. Due to the fact that the study was conducted as participatory action research, the main areas of social exclusion of people with intellectual disabilities were exposed. This allowed for attempting to prevent this phenomenon. In this study, artistic work has become a laboratory of social practices toward people with intellectual disabilities and the solutions created in the realm of the arts may serve as an example for designing a normalising model of support for people with intellectual disabilities in other areas as well.
