Opis:

The paper outlines problems concerning semantics of the notion of soil erosion, range of constituent processes; the review analysis of existing systems of the classifi cation of these phenomena has been presented. The author also proposed multicriterial systematics of water soil erosion processes – uniting onomastics from the range of earth’s sciences with the nomenclature applied in agricultural sciences, taking into consideration meritoric and practical aspects. The systematics bases on the general criteria (main causative factor, and type of process) and 6 itemical criteria (a–f): component processes, character of degradation, object of infl uence, way of infl uence, effects and preventive measures. Basing on these assumptions the systematics of three essential types of water erosion (surface, ravine and underground) has been presented. The multicriterial analysis of processes, considering also preventive measures to soil erosion degradation of mechanical, chemical and hydrological type, as well as of accumulative type (the so called harmful sedimentation) will help to recognize the complicated structure of these processes.

Opis:

Zjawisko erozji wodnej należy do głównych przyczyn degradacji gleb w Europie. Stanowi ono również główny czynnik degradujący gleby na obszarze Małopolski - regionu o najwyższym stopniu zagrożenia erozyjnego w skali Polski. Występując lokalnie, w zależności od warunków fizjograficznych, może stanowić poważny problem gospodarczy i środowiskowy. Silne zróżnicowanie fizjograficzne oraz różne formy pokrycia i użytkowania terenu województwa małopolskiego, stanowiły główną potrzebę przeprowadzenia oceny zagrożenia erozyjnego i nasilenia stopnia degradacji gleb. Projekt realizowany dla Urzędu Marszałkowskiego Województwa Małopolskiego miał na celu identyfikację obszarów, które w największym stopniu narażone są na degradację(erozję potencjalną, czyli taką, jaka miałaby miejsce na polu użytkowanym jako czarny ugór bez stosowania zabiegów przeciwerozyjnych oraz erozję aktualną, czyli z uwzględnieniem aktualnej struktury użytkowania i stosowanych zabiegów przeciwerozyjnych) przez co w pierwszej kolejności wymagają wdrożenia skutecznych metod ochrony gleb użytkowanych rolniczo. W projekcie wykorzystano wysokorozdzielcze zobrazowania satelitarne systemu RapidEye z lat 2010-2011 oraz cyfrowe ortofotomapy lotnicze (RGB). Dane teledetekcyjne poddano zaawansowanej technologicznie klasyfikacji obiektowej (ang. OBIA - Object Based Image Analysis) w oprogramowaniu eCognition (Trimble Geospatial) wspartej analizami przestrzennymi GIS. Ocenę nasilenia erozyjnej degradacji gleb województwa małopolskiego przeprowadzono w oparciu o modelowanie z wykorzystaniem algorytmu USLE (ang. Universal Soil Loss Equation). Jest to najszerzej rozpowszechniony na świecie model erozyjny. W latach 90-tych XX wieku powstała nowa (zmodyfikowana) wersja modelu do określania erozji gleb, tj. (R)USLE. Ocena zagrożenia gleb województwa małopolskiego w aspekcie erozji potencjalnej wykazała, iż jedynie 15% powierzchni terenów użytkowanych rolniczo w województwie nie jest w zasadzie zagrożone erozją wodną. Na obszarze 28.6% terenów rolnych występuje natomiast potencjalnie średnie lub większe zagrożenie erozyjne - mogące skutkować trwałą degradacją profilu glebowego. Tereny zagrożone występują w największym nasileniu w południowej - górzystej części województwa. Ocena przeprowadzona w aspekcie erozji aktualnej pokazuje jednocześnie, iż rzeczywisty aktualny poziom zagrożenia erozyjnego jest znacznie niższy od potencjalnego. Ponad 40% terenów rolniczych nie jest obecnie narażonych na występowanie zjawisk erozji wodnej gleb, a erozja na poziomie średnim lub wyższym stwierdzana jest dla 10% powierzchni tych obszarów. Oznacza to, iż sposób prowadzenia gospodarki rolnej w znacznym stopniu ogranicza występowanie zjawisk erozyjnych. Podsumowując w przypadku województwa małopolskiego zagrożenie erozyjne użytków rolnych należy ocenić jako średnio-wysokie i dość mocno zróżnicowane terytorialnie. Zastosowana metodyka prac poza dużą oszczędnością czasu jaką przyniosła klasyfikacja obiektowa (OBIA) wykazała także możliwość wykorzystania modelu erozji (R)USLE dla jednostek administracyjnych o znacznej powierzchni, takich jak: powiat czy województwo.
In 2011 the Marshal Office of Malopolska Voivodeship decide to evaluate the vulnerability of soils to water erosion for the entire region. The special work-flow of geoinformation technologies was used to fulfil this goal. First of all, the soil map had to be updated to include changes in land use and land cover which took place since 1960s, when most of them were made. The process of soil map updating had to be realised with very high degree of automation, because of the large area to be mapped (ca. 15 000 km sq.) and limited time period (ca. 3 months for complete erosion risk assessment). The approach used was based on the Object Based Image Analysis (OBIA) of orthophotomaps from both high resolution satellite images (RapidEye) and digital aerial photographs and applied GIS spatial analyses. Soil map with up-to-date land use and land cover information, together with rainfall data, detailed Digital Elevation Model and statistical information about areas sown with particular crops created the input information for erosion modelling in GIS environment. Soil erosion risk assessment was based on (R)USLE approach. Both, the potential and the actual soil erosion risk were assessed quantificatively and qualitatively. The soil erosion risk assessment for Malopolska Voivodeship showed that only 15% of the agricultural land in the region is generally free of the risk of water erosion. For the 28.6% of agricultural land the potential medium or higher risk of erosion exist - which can result in permanent degradation of the soil profile. The study was presented in forms of digital thematic maps and reports prepared for the entire area of Malopolska Voivodeship and each administrative district as well.

These procesess are conditioned by natural parameter of environment and its using. There were evaluate the surface runoff and erosion values on different kinds farming land on base of long-term measurements. Annual size surface fl ow and soil erosion were correlated mutually and with precipitation. The subsurface runoff is important element of water circulation. Authors showed the amount and course this process. There were showed the course of chemical denudation process in selected periods towards water circulation. There also compared relation beetwen soil erosion procesess on slope and in the river channel.

W pracy przedstawiono sposób obliczenia masy erodowanej gleby na przykładzie zlewni Bystrzycy Dusznickiej z wykorzystaniem danych dostarczanych przez System Informacji Geograficznej (GIS). Posłużono się do tego celu opracowanym przez Wischeiera i Smitha równaniem strat glebowych - USLE. Obliczeń dokonano ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem pól uprawnych, które stanowią ok. 36% powierzchni rozpatrywanej zlewni. W obliczeniach ujęto następujące warianty użytkowania płużnego - uprawa w poprzek stoku oraz uprawa warstwicowa. Do obliczeń z zastosowaniem uniwersalnego równania strat glebowych wykorzystano program PARUSLE. Program ten wymaga przygotowania cyfrowych warstw tematycznych, między innymi wysokościowego modelu terenu, spadków terenu, rozmieszczenia rodzaju gleb i innych. Na podstawie uzyskanych wyników stwierdzono, że maksymalne natężenie erozji wodnej gleb występuje na terenach użytkowanych rolniczo. Przeprowadzono też symulację, polegającą na zmianie sposobu wykorzystania upraw polowych, w wyniku której za najkorzystniejszą uznano uprawę pól wzdłuż warstwic. Wprowadzenie tego sposobu uprawy może być bardzo trudne z uwagi na rozdrobnienie pól uprawnych. Aby zmniejszyć erozję wodną gleb, należy właściwie rozmieszczać elementy liniowe: granice dzielące różnie wykorzystywane grunty, miedze, polne drogi wszystkich klas itp. Rozmieszczenie ich bez uwzględnienia urzeźbienia terenu oraz kierunku spływu - to jedna z istotnych przyczyn erozji wodnej.
The paper presents the method of estimation of the eroded soil mass, applying the data delivered by the Geographical Information System (GIS) - taking as an example the Bystrzyca Dusznicka mountain catchment. For this purpose Universal Soil Loss Equation - USLE of Wischeier and Smith was utilised for evaluation of soil mass with particular reference to agricultural land, which constituted of about 36% of analysed catchment area. The calculations were made for the different kinds of arable land utilisation: tillage across the slope and a contour cultivation. The PARUSLE program has been used to solve the universal equation for the estimation of the soil losses. This program needs digital subject layers, among the other an altitude-terrain model, slopes, distribution of soil types and similar. Based on the obtained results it was found that the maximum intensity of erosion occurred in the agriculture utilised land. A simulation has been made which relies on changes of different kinds of land use. It was concluded that most favourable is contour cultivation. The introduction of this method of cultivation can be difficult in view of fragmentation of arable fields. In order to reduce soil erosion it is necessary to distribute properly the linear elements, dividing borders of variously utilized fields, baulks, and field roads all classes etc. Considering them without arranging to relief as well as to the direction of water flows, constitute one of the significant causes of water erosion.

The paper presents the evaluation of soil water erosion risk of the Mściwojów water reservoir drainage basin. In the present study, modelling with the use of GIS (Geographical Information Systems) and RUSLE (Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation) erosion models were exploited. Values of topographic factor (LS) were calculated after formulas proposed by Moore et al. [1991] as well as Desmet and Govers [1996]. The results of erosion prognosis by means of RUSLE method after Moore's formula are by 40% higher than values evaluated after Desmet and Gover's formula. Eroded soil mean mass from area unit during the year is estimated at the level of 10.35-14.53 Mg • ha-1 • year-1, depending on computable formula used. Results of this research enabled to divide the drainage basin area into soil water erosion intensity zones based on predicted soil loss values according to Marks et al. [1989]. The study shows that water erosion risk of soil in the Mściwojów water reservoir drainage basin is very high. Almost one third of its area is located in the high and very high class of erosion risk.

Opis:

The paper presents potential soil erosion risk of the upper Parsęta catchment (Drawskie Lake District, NW Poland). The model considers following conditions affecting the size of soil erosion: slope gradient, LS factor, lithology, land use and land cover. Thematic maps have been reclassified into a 4-degree division. Potential soil erosion risk map was prepared on the basis of thematic maps. Areas with small and moderate susceptibility to soil erosion occupy 71.5% of the catchment area. The 4th class of erosiveness is represented by the river valley slopes, steep slopes of kame and moraine hills, covering 28.5% of the upper Parsęta catchment.

W pracy przedstawiono wyniki przekształceń granic i sposobu użytkowania terenu na małej zlewni rolniczej (mikrozlewni) w Sudetach Środkowych. Zlewnia Potoku Boguszyńskiego o powierzchni 1,42 km² jest prawostronnym dopływem III rzędu Nysy Kłodzkiej i reprezentuje rolniczo użytkowane obszary północno-wschodniej części obrzeża Kotliny Kłodzkiej na styku z Górami Bardzkimi. Aktualne użytkowanie terenu zostało zwektoryzowane z mapy ewidencji gruntów i budynków i przedstawione w systemie GIS na podstawie danych ARiMR-u oraz obserwacji terenowych. Propozycje zmian użytkowania terenu opracowano z uwzględnieniem powierzchniowej i potencjalnej wodnej erozji gleb utworzonej metodą jakościową. Stopnie zagrożenia erozją gleb zostały wpisane w zobrazowanie przestrzenne działek ewidencyjnych i uprawowych. Podczas projektowania użytkowania terenu uwzględniono również potrzebę zwiększenia retencji krajobrazowej poprzez zmniejszenie udziału spływu powierzchniowego. Wyniki prac wskazują na potrzebę rewizji sposobu użytkowania górskich terenów rolniczych. W wyniku proponowanych przekształceń zwiększeniu ulegnie powierzchnia terenów zalesionych, a zmniejszeniu tereny gruntów ornych i użytków zielonych. Na obszarach znacznie nachylonych oprócz zalesień proponowane jest wykonanie barier przeciwerozyjnych w formie miedz, oraz miedz zadrzewionych. Projektowane zgodnie z Kodeksem Dobrej Praktyki Rolniczej użytkowanie wypełnia zasadę zrównoważonego rozwoju, chroniąc środowisko naturalne zachowuje dobry poziom rozwoju ekonomicznego obszarów wiejskich.
The paper contains results transformation of the land cover on a small agricultural catchment (microbasin) in the Central Sudetes Mountain. Boguszyński Brook catchment area ( 1.42 km²) is the right-hand tributary of the third row Nysa Kłodzka river and represents agricultural areas of the north-eastern edge of the Kłodzko Valley at the junction with Bardzkie Mountains. Current land cover maps were vectorize base on land and buildings registry map and own observations. Proposals for land cover changes was base on water, potential, surface soil erosion created by qualitative method. Degrees of soil erosion risks were matched in the cultivation parcels. During the design land cover changes was taken into consideration creasing the retention of landscape by reducing the amount of surface runoff. The results of the point to the need to revise the usage of mountain farmland. As a result of the proposed transformation will increase the area of forest cover and reducing the area of arable land and grassland.

Opis:

Erozja wodna to proces polegający na stopniowym niszczeniu przez wodę wierzchniej, a czasem też głębszych warstw gleby poprzez wymywanie cząstek glebowych i składników mineralnych oraz ich transport. W Polsce, jak i w innych krajach europejskich, zjawisko to stanowi podstawowy czynnik obniżający jakość gleb i powodujący ich degradację. Istotę tego problemu podkreśla m.in. Dyrektywa Parlamentu Europejskiego (Parlament Europejski, 2006), zobowiązująca państwa członkowskie do identyfikacji, na odpowiednim szczeblu, obszarów na których występują procesy erozyjne, bądź istnieje możliwość ich wystąpienia w przyszłości. W pracy podjęto problem monitorowania zjawiska erozji w sensie ilościowym – z wykorzystaniem techniki naziemnego skanowania laserowego. Obiekt badawczy obejmuje użytkowane rolniczo gleby lessowe położone na obszarze Wzgórz Trzebnickich. W pracy przedstawiono koncepcję oraz wyniki wstępnych badań terenowych, opracowane dane z naziemnego skaningu laserowego w postaci numerycznego modelu terenu wraz z ilościową oceną transportowanej masy gleby. Ponadto, wskazano kierunek dalszych prac oraz możliwości wykorzystania skaningu laserowego do monitorowania zmian ukształtowania powierzchni terenu spowodowanych erozją wodną oraz do weryfikacji stosowanych modeli teoretycznych erozji wodnej.
Soil erosion is the process of systematic soil degradation through the action of an erosive agent. In the case of water erosion, the agent is water, which detaches and transports soil material and rinses minerals and nutrients causing soil depletion. This process causes serious economic problems, not only in Poland, but also in other European countries. Due to this fact, the problem of soil erosion by water is identified e.g. in EU directives which oblige EU member states to identify and delineate eroded areas or regions where the risk of soil erosion occurrence in the future is high. This study focuses on the quantitative monitoring of eroded lands using a technique for terrestrial laser scanning. The area under study is the agricultural region of the Trzebnickie Hills, covered with erosion sensitive loess soils. TLS data were acquired using a Trimble GX laser scanner in the test area (600 m × 450 m) which is mainly occupied by agricultural fields. The study design envisages building a differential Digital Terrain Model (DTM) based on two point clouds acquired within a certain time span. The resulting DTM provides information about the changes in topography resulting from the process of soil erosion by water. The study shows the preliminary results of the site research – DTMs modelled from laser scanning data with an estimate of soil loss. In addition, the future possibilities for using laser scanning in research on monitoring surface change are outlined.

Over the past half-century, an expansion of agriculture on lands is observed, followed with increased intensification through larger fields of monoculture crops and application of high level of inputs, that icreases the pressures agriculture sets upon the environment. Raising awareness of consumers and environmentalists led to the promotion of several alternative farming practices, including integrated food and non-food systems (IFNS). Here we explore the potential of different kinds of IFNS systems in delivering environmental benefits, focusing on preserving soil functions as the form of land use limiting the loos of soil by water erosion. Six successfully implemented IFNS systems located in UK, Poland, Italy, Denmark and Romania, were taken as a baseline to investigate their potential impact onto lowering soil loss by water erosion in their respective NUTS3 regions, when they would be applied widely on a regional scale. The results of analyses performed within GIS systems based upon European datasets revealed, that altogether the highest potential of limiting the area of soil erosion exceeding 0,5 Mg ha-1y-1 by an IFNS existing in a particular NUTS is observed in Romania, where 531km2 may be protected effectively with exiting silvopastoral system, while applied in a longer term on non-pastoral land cover classes it could provide effective protection for another 1362 km2. Second largest influence can be achieved in Polish NUTS region, where 125 km2 may be taken into protection directly and an another 1140 km2 may be transformed into agroforestry systems to lower the risk of soil erosion by water. In all investigated regions, a wide introduction of IFNS, that are already proven to be economically successful, would decrease soil loss considerably on existing land cover classes similar to IFNS systems covering 4927km2, while potentially on all agricultural land up to 8854km2.

W artykule przedstawiono rezultaty modelowania rozkładu przestrzennego nasilenia procesów erozji (i depozycji) materiału glebowego w obszarze północnej części bezpośredniej zlewni Zbiornika Dobczyckiego, otrzymane z wykorzystaniem modeli RUSLE (Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation) (Renard i in., 1991) i USPED (Unite Stream Power-based Erosion/Deposition) (Mitasova i in., 1998). Szczególną uwagę poświęcono ocenie wpływu, jaki na wynik modelowania wywiera rozdzielczość przestrzenna zastosowanego Numerycznego Modelu Rzeźby Terenu. Wykorzystano w tym celu modele wysokościowe o rozdzielczości przestrzennej 30, 10 oraz 5 metrów wygenerowane przy zastosowaniu tej samej metody z danych źródłowych w postaci modeli TIN otrzymanych w trakcie realizacji projektu LPIS żaden z dwu testowanych modeli (RUSLE, USPED) nie daje w pełni wiarygodnego obrazu zagrożenia erozyjnego. RUSLE prognozuje występowanie erozji (i to nawet o znacznym stopniu nasilenia) na obszarach, na których w rzeczywistości zachodzić może depozycja materiału glebowego. USPED daje możliwość identyfikacji obszarów depozycji, ale prognozowane przez ten model wielkości erozji obarczone są znaczną niepewnością (por. np. Mitasova i in. 1998). Rozwiązanie stanowić może łączną analiza wyników uzyskanych z wykorzystaniem obu modeli. Rozdzielczość użytego NMT w znacznym stopniu determinuje możliwość geometryzacji obszarów zagrożonych. Szczególnie wyraźna różnica widoczna jest pomiędzy wynikami uzyskanymi dla modelu o rozdzielczości 30 metrów, a dwoma pozostałymi testowanymi rozmiarami oczek siatki NMT. Za wystarczający do przeprowadzenia modelowania uznać można model o rozdzielczości 10 metrów. Rozpatrywany obszar (północna część bezpośredniej zlewni Zbiornika Dobczyckiego) jest narażony na procesy erozji wodnej gleb w niewielkim stopniu. W wyniku przeprowadzonego modelowania jedynie dla ok. 2 procent powierzchni analizowanego obszaru stopień zagrożenia określono jako wysoki.
The paper presents results of spatial modelling of soil erosion and deposition in the north part of the Dobczyce Reservoir direct watershed. The Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation (RUSLE) and Unite Stream Power-based Erosion/Deposition (USPED) model were applied. The influence of Digital Terrain Model (DTM) on modelling results was given particular attention. Three DTMs with different grid size (30, 10 and 5 meters) were generated from the same source data – TIN models from LPIS project. No reliable spatial distribution of water soil erosion was achieved with any of tested models used alone. In case of RUSLE, high soil erosion rates were predicted in areas where deposition should occur. The USPED model shows deposition areas, but predicted erosion rates are of high degree of uncertainty. For that reason, the results of both models should be taken into account.

The main aim of the paper is to assess influence of soil erosion by water in the transformation of agricultural slopes of the edge of Wiśnicz Foothills. Low hills are typical in the morphology of the area. Results presented come from measurements of soil erosion by water in 2007–2009. Soil erosion took place during short transformation periods and was caused by events of high magnitude and low frequency during which soil particles are transported from the slope to the channel, but its supply was only local and episodic. In the foothill area slope and channel are weakly linked.

Opis:

The paper pertains to landscape management in eroded areas. Erosion processes, especially water erosion of soils, change the existing landscapes and make them less attractive or even hostile to people. Such situation calls for protective actions e.g. an appropriate management of agricultural landscape to minimise negative consequences of such phenomena. The paper presents a concept of counter-erosion measures to be implemented in the Trzebnickie Hills and comments their effect on the landscape. The concept was applied to an agricultural watershed of the Mielnica River. Particular attention was paid to visual aspect of this landscape and to functioning of its elements. Changes in the landscape were visualised and set up with the present status of the watershed.
Praca dotyczy zagadnień związanych z kształtowaniem krajobrazu terenów erodowanych. Procesy erozyjne, zwłaszcza erozja wodna gleb, degradując środowisko glebowe, wywołują zmiany w istniejących krajobrazach, czyniąc je mniej atrakcyjnymi, a nawet nieprzyjaznymi człowiekowi. To z kolei przemawia za koniecznością wprowadzenia działań ochronnych, m.in. poprzez odpowiednie kształtowanie krajobrazu rolniczego, w celu zmniejszenia negatywnych następstw tych procesów. W pracy przedstawiono koncepcję zabiegów przeciwerozyjnych niezbędnych do wprowadzenia na obszarze Wzgórz Trzebnickich i ich wpływ na krajobraz. Koncepcję tych działań przedstawiono na przykładzie zlewni rolniczej cieku Mielnica. Zwrócono szczególną uwagęna aspekt wizualny krajobrazu, a także na funkcjonowanie jego elementów. Tytułowe zmiany w krajobrazie przedstawiono za pomocą wizualizacji fotograficznych zestawionych ze stanem obecnym zlewni.

Na podstawie działań legislacyjnych oraz badań naukowych przedstawiono problem ochrony gleby w Sudetach poprzez zalesianie i zadarnianie powierzchni erodowanych. Stwierdzono, że region ten z uwagi na układ czynników wywołujących erozją należy do najsilniej zagrożonych w skali kraju. Dotychczasowe opracowania naukowe na temat systemowej ochrony gleby przed erozją w Sudetach są nieliczne. Duże znaczenie dla przyszłych badań może mieć natomiast cyfrowa baza danych o czynnikach przyrodniczych: topograficznych i glebowych utworzona przy realizacji tematu dotyczącego kształtowania granic rolno-leśnej i darniowo-polowej w tym regionie. Kryteria kwalifikacji użytków rolnych do zalesienia i zadarnienia zastosowane w tym opracowaniu są zbieżne z zalecanymi dla ochrony gleby przed erozją przez innych autorów. W pracy prześledzono powierzchnie przeznaczone do zalesienia i zadarnienia pod kątem dwu najbardziej istotnych czynników zagrożenia erozyjnego: hipsometrii i nachylenia. Stwierdzono, że największych zmian w użytkowaniu wymaga strefa od 400 do 600 m n.p.m., a więc najbardziej wykorzystywana rolniczo oraz obszary o nachyleniu 6 do 10° również zbyt eksploatowane płużnie. Celowe jest rozważenie w ten sposób pozostałych czynników kwalifikacji, zwłaszcza glebowych, oraz po uzupełnieniu bazy danych o dalsze czynniki zagrożenia erozyjnego opracowanie mapy tego zagrożenia w dużej skali 1 : 10 000 i dostosowanie systemów ochrony do stopnia zagrożenia erozyjnego.
On the basis of legislative activities and scientific research the paper presents the problem of soil protection in the Sudety Mts through afforestation and change into grasslands of areas affected by erosion. It was found that the region due to the configuration of factors causing erosion belongs to the most threatened areas in Poland. Existing scientific sources about the system of soil protection against erosion in the Sudety Mts are not completed. Future research can be, however, greatly influenced by the digital database of environmental factors: topography and soil, which was created in a study on the verification of the agricultural-forest and grassland-arable land boundaries in the region. Criteria of qualifying agricultural lands for afforestation and change into grasslands applied in the study comply with the criteria recommended for soil protection against erosion by other authors. In the paper, the areas designated for afforestation and change into grasslands were analysed according to two most important erosion factors: hypsometry and inclination. It was found that the biggest changes in land use are required in the zone between 400 and 600 m a.s.l., with the most intensive agricultural utilization, as well as areas with the inclination of 6° to 10°, which are also too excessively ploughed. It is advisable to analyse in a similar way other factors of qualification, especially soil. Completing the database with other erosion factors will create possibilities for creating a map of erosion risk in the large scale of 1:10 000, as well as the adjustment of protection systems to the level of erosion risks.

W pracy określono ilość erodowanej gleby metodą standardową, opracowaną przez Wischmeiera i Smitha, zmodyfikowaną przez Barriosa i zmodyfikowaną przez Jianguo Ma, na długości cieku głównego. Na podstawie wyników ze zlewni Bystrzycy Dusznickiej stwierdzono, że maksymalne natężenie erozji wodnej gleb występuje na terenach użytkowanych rolniczo. Wyniki uzyskane za pomocą omawianego modelu USLE (ang. "Universal soil loss equation") wg Barriosa różnią się o ok. 17% od uzyskanych z zastosowaniem pozostałych metod, co wynika ze sposobu obliczania współczynników L i S. Przeprowadzono również obliczenia, dotyczące wpływu zmian sposobu uprawy, z których wynika, że korzystniejsze jest wykonywanie zabiegów uprawnych (orki i innych) wzdłuż warstwic. Zmniejszyło to masę erodowanej gleby o 33% dla standardowej wersji modelu, a dla pozostałych metod o ok. 71%.
In this work the water erosion magnitude was estimated by the standard method developed by Wischmeier and Smith, modified by Barrios and Jianguo Ma on the length of the main watercourse. On the basis on the results for the Bystrzyca Dusznicka catchment it was found that the maximal intensity of the soil water erosion occurs in the agriculturally utilised land. The results obtained using the discussed USLE model (Universal soil loss equation) by Barrios differs from the values obtained using the other methods of about 17%. This is the result ofthe differences in methods for calculating the L and S coefficients. A simulation of changes of different kinds of land use has also been made. It was concluded that the most favourable is contour cultivation.

In the years 2008-2011, the study on the surface and subsurface water runoff from the forested loess slope was carried out to determine the concentrations of selected chemical indicators of water quality, soil suspension and loss of the pure matter component. The maximum tested concentrations of water quality indicators were low and amounted to: 1.841 mg‧dm^-3 N-Nog, 0.943 mg‧dm^-3 N-NH₄, 0.478 mg‧dm^-3 N-NO₃, 0.213 mg‧dm^-3 N-NO₂, 0.423 mg‧dm^-3 P, 1.621 mg‧dm^-3 K. The masses of the eroded matter constituents were low and amounted to: 0.808 kg‧ha^-1 N, 0.157 kg‧ha^-1 P, 0.142 kg‧ha^-1 K and 2.989 kg‧ha^-1 soil. The parameters of erosive precipitation and water outflow were statistically significantly correlated with the concentration of soil suspended matter and losses of the analyzed components of matter, as well as negligible concentration of chemical indicators of water quality. Afforestation of the loess slopes threatened by erosion is a treatment that effectively protects the soil against water erosion.

Sediments are the major source of pollution in surface waters of the Pacific Northwest Region of the USA. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the relationship between SMI water quality scores at 76 sampling sites in eight watersheds and the observed soil erosion rates on adjacent landscapes. The water quality SMI scores in streams were obtained using stream macro invertebrates as an indicator of water quality, while soil erosion rates were determined by observation on adjoining landscapes during periods of maximum precipitation. Soil erosion rates of <2, 2–5, 5–15, 15–25 and >25 mt/ha/yr were observed at 9, 20, 45, 14 and 12% of the sampling sites, respectively. Landscapes with erosion rates of less than 5 mt/ha/yr generally resulted in good water quality in adjacent streams; however, when soil erosion rates on adjacent landscapes exceeded 5 mt/ha/yr SMI water quality scores were less than good 86% of the time. Strong signifi cant relationships were observed between SMI water quality rating and observed soil erosion rates. Consequently, land management or rehabilitation practices that reduce soil erosion rates to levels below 5 mt/ha/ /yr should improve stream water quality.
Rumowisko rzeczne stanowi główne źródło zanieczyszczenia wód powierzchniowych w zlewniach Pacyfiku w północno-zachodnim regionie USA. W pracy przedstawiono wyniki badań prowadzonych w ośmiu zlewniach w celu określenia zależności między indeksem jakości wody SMI w 76 przekrojach kontrolnych a wartościami wskaźnika erozji gleb na przyległych obszarach. Jako wskaźnik jakości wody do określenia wartość SMI wykorzystano badania makro bezkręgowców wodnych, natomiast wskaźnik erozji gleb określano na podstawie obserwacji terenu w okresach maksymalnych opadów deszczu. Uzyskano silną zależność między wartościami SMI a wartościami wskaźnika erozji gleb. Stwierdzono, że gdy wskaźnik erozji gleb przekraczał wartość 5 mt/ha/rok wówczas w 86% okresu obserwacji jakość wody była gorsza od dobrej, tj. słaba, zła lub bardzo zła. Zagospodarowanie terenu oraz działania w celu redukcji wartości wskaźnika erozji gleb poniżej 5 mt/ha/rok powinno poprawić jakość wody w ciekach.

Opis:

The control of water erosion is an important economic and societal challenge. Reduction of the agronomic potential of the parcels, muddy flows, siltation of dams are harmful consequences that mobilize farmers, water managers, local authorities and scientific researchers. This study focuses on mapping and quantifying seasonal soil losses in the territory of the former Nord-Pas-de-Calais administrative region, using the Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation (RUSLE) which incorporates five factors: rainfall erosivity, soil erodibility, topography, land use and erosion control practices. The seasonal (3-months) time scale is chosen to better account for the parameters governing the soil water erosion, especially rainfall and vegetation cover, that show great asynchronous intra-annual variability. Also, high resolution data concerning agricultural plots allows to evaluate which type of culture are the more subject to soil losses. In Nord-Pas-de-Calais, water erosion occurs almost ubiquitously, but the areas characterized by steep slopes are the most at risk (Artois Hills and Flanders), with loss rates up to 54 t∙ha-1∙y-1. The majority of erosion occurs during fall (46% of the computed annual losses of 1.69∙Mt), on plots left bare after harvest (especially corn and beets crops). The study also demonstrates that extending the intercrop technique over the region, and therefore maintaining a fall and winter cover, could reduce the soil losses by 37%.

Prognozowanie wielkości ładunku zawiesiny wprowadzanego do zbiornika retencyjnego wraz z zasilającymi je wodami posiada istotne znaczenie, zarówno w kontekście jakości wody zbiornika jak i jego pojemności dyspozycyjnej. Znaczącym wsparciem dla opracowania tego rodzaju prognoz może być realizowane w środowisku Systemów Informacji Geograficznej modelowanie efektów erozji wodnej gleb w obszarze zlewni zbiornika. W artykule przedstawiono rezultaty kalibracji modelu RUSLE/SDR (Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation / Sediment Delivery Ratio) uzyskane w oparciu o wyniki pomiarów przeprowadzonych w czterech ciekach zasilających Zbiornik Dobczycki: Wolnicy, Trzemeśniance, Brzezówce i Bulince. W trakcie przeprowadzonych badań podjęto próby kalibracji modelu w oparciu o wyniki pomiarów ładunków zawiesin Nie udało się uzyskać pozytywnych efektów kalibracji stosując te same parametry modelu dla wszystkich zlewni. Powodzeniem zakończyły się natomiast próby kalibracji w wariantach, w których nie uwzględniono wyników uzyskanych w zlewni Wolnicy. Spośród testowanych wariantów obliczeniowych najlepsze rezultaty dawało zastosowanie do obliczeń wskaźnika topograficznego wzorów McCool’a et al. (1987, 1989) przy użyciu do określenia sieci erozyjno-drenażowej algorytmu D8. Uzyskane rezultaty kalibracji, pomimo iż nie w pełni satysfakcjonujące, pozwalają przypuszczać, że model RUSLE/SDR będzie mógł być wykorzystany do prognozowania zmian ładunków zawiesiny docierającej do zbiornika. Hipoteza ta poddana zostanie weryfikacji w trakcie dalszych badań, w oparciu o pomiary ładunków zawiesiny przeprowadzone w latach 2007/2008.
Synoptic information on suspended matter supply to reservoirs is important because of a potential storage capacity reduction and water contamination. Such prediction is difficult to obtain from in situ measurement only. The suspended matter load can be estimated by modelling water soil erosion effect in GIS environment, using Digital Elevation Model, climate data, soil type parameters, and land-use/land-cover data obtained from remote sensing multitemporal imageries. To predict sediment yields from watersheds, a calibrated model is needed. The paper presents a study on the Dobczyce Reservoir in southern Poland. In the 1980s, detailed measurements of sediment yields in rovers of the Reservoir's immediate catchment were taken. We tried to calibrate the RUSLE/SDR (Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation / Sediment Delivery Ratio) erosion model to predict sediment loads. Different topographical factor equations and runoff routing algorithms were tested. The RUSLE/SDR model calibration was based on sediment loads measured in four streams (Wolnica, Trzemeśnianka, Brzezówka, Bulinka) during three years (1982-84). First, we tried to use one model for all four catchments modelled. The calibration attempts were based on the yearly sediment loads and on average sediment yields for 1982-1984, measured in every catchment. Both attempts failed. Successful calibration was achieved in both approaches when the Wolnica catchment was excluded. Sediment yields measured in the remaining three catchments showed little year-to-year variation. In the Wolnica catchment, the sediment yield in 1982 was thirteen times greater than that in 1984. The differences in the measured sediment yields occurred mainly in winter months. The Wolnica catchment differs from the remaining ones in its location: it is located on the south slopes (at the north side of the existing reservoir). This can bring about differences in climatic conditions. It is possible that the calculated rainfall erosivity factor used was not appropriate for that watershed. The best result was obtained with the use of D8 runoff routing algorithm and the LS-equations proposed by McCool et al. (1987, 1989). The results obtained show the potential of this simple approach in prediction of sediment supply to the Dobczyce Reservoir from its immediate catchment. An improved version of the model (with rainfall erosivity factor calculated in a diferent way or with different parameter values for different catchments) will be tested in the future along with other soil erosion models capable of prediction sediment yields. These models will be validated based on measurements taken last year.

Opis:

The paper defines the place of anti-erosional meliorations within the system land sanation (improvement) measures. It presents basic measures aimed at protecting soil against water erosion, taking into consideration the degree of their implementation urgency, and outlines the question of eliminating water erosion in spatial planning. Among anti-erosion measure, we can mainly enumerate activities of an agrotechnical and bioengineering character. From the technological perspective, these are primarily: anti-erosional crop rotation, anti-erosional field patterns, afforestation, biological and mechanical reinforcement of ravines and escarpments. Not only do they aim at restoring the imbalanced ecological systems (mainly agroecosystems) but they also intend to aptly shape physiographic elements (relief, soil, water regimes) as well as methods of land use, according to spatial planning regulations. Anti-erosional measures help in implementing the policies of sustainable development through land use rationalisation, taking into consideration the requirements of sozology.
W pracy określono miejsce melioracji przeciwerozyjnych w systemie zabiegów służących sanacji gruntów, przedstawiono podstawowe zabiegi służące ochronie gleb przed erozją wodną z uwzględnieniem stopnia pilności ich wykonania oraz zarysowano problematykę zwalczania erozji wodnej w zagospodarowaniu przestrzennym. W zakres zabiegów przeciwerozyjnych wchodzą prace głównie o charakterze agrotechnicznym i fitomelioracyjnym (bioinżynieryjnym). Z punktu widzenia technologicznego są to głównie: stosowanie płodozmianów przeciwerozyjnych i przeciwerozyjny układ pól, zalesianie, biologiczne i techniczne umacnianie wąwozów i skarp. Mają one na celu nie tylko sanację zachwianych układów ekologicznych (głównie agroekosystemów), ale także właściwe ukształtowanie elementów fizjograficznych (rzeźba, gleby - grunty, stosunki wodne) i sposobu użytkowania terenu zgodnie z ustaleniami planistycznymi. Zabiegi przeciwerozyjne służą wdrażaniu polityki rozwoju zrównoważonego poprzez racjonalizację wykorzystania przestrzeni, przy uwzględnieniu wymogów sozologii.

Opis:

Soil erosion by water is one of the most important factors affecting contemporary landscape changes within the lowland geoecosystems in Central Europe. Soil erosion by water mainly depends on: rainfalls (especially its intensity and erosivity), length of slope and its inclination, type of cultivation and usage of land, anti-erosion treatments and susceptibility of soils to erosion. The aim of conducted research was to evaluate conditioning and magnitude of secular and extreme soil erosion processes in the Drawsko Lakeland with special considering of rainfall erosivity index (EI30). The main goal was realised through several research tasks. The first task involved examination of surface runoff and slope wash conditionings, course and quantity in the testing plot located within the Chwalimski Potok catchment. The second task was related to evaluate rainfall impact to soil erosion by water processes. It was realised by computation rainfall characteristics: intensity, kinetic energy and erosivity. In order to assess secular and extreme soil erosion impact to land relief changes, research were provided with additional details by conducting three field experiments with simulated rainfall. Stationary observation and quantitative researches of soil erosion (at testing plots) have been conducting within the Chwalimski Brook catchment for three hydrological years (2012–2014). The slope with the test area is located within the 1st order catchment being a subsystem of the Młynski Brook catchment and then followed by the upper Parsęta catchment. This area covers 4.8 hectares and is characterised by short slopes with small height variances up to 10 meters. Historically, the area was covered with agricultural crops, currently they cover about 10% of the area. The slope is covered with gleyic retisols and its average inclination is about 4 degrees with its south-east exposure. The measuring system of soil erosion covered 5 testing plots with different agricultural use (bare fallow, meadow, potatoes, spring and winter crops). Plots are 42 metres long and 4 metres width. In the bottom edge of each plot catchers with volume of 800 dm3 were installed. In this research, only data from black fallow were considered. Such tillage is recognised as a standard in soil erosion studies. Two experiments have been conducted in this testing plot. The third one has been conducted on slope located within an area of undulated morainic plateau in the Kłuda catchment. The slope is characterised by greater height variances than in Chwalimski Brook catchment. The slope, where the experiment has been conducted, is situated within local closed depression and is covered by sands underlain by boulder clay. Its average slope is about 10° with its southwest exposure. Although annual precipitation in the three-year measurement period was comparable with mean value from multi-year period (1987–2014), its intensity and erosivity were distinguishably lower. Such rainfall conditions are not favourable for extreme soil erosion by water processes, thus any relief forms from such geomorphological processes were not observed in the Drawsko Lakeland. Due to lack of that kind of forms, in 2013 and 2014, three field experiments were conducted. The main aim of experiments was to evaluate the impact of high intensity rainfall on soil surface. The first experiment consisted of 5, the second and the third of 4 rainfall simulations. The rainfall was created by using a purpose-built rain simulator, consisting of 3 and 6 sprinklers placed around the testing plot. Despite the slope inclination in the Kłuda catchment was 2.5 times steeper than Chwalimski Potok’s slope, surface runoff attained smaller volume, because of remarkably higher infiltration rate. In 2012–2014, surface runoff and soil loss has occurred 8 times each year. The maximal monthly surface runoff volume was registered in February 2012, and it equalled 10.1 dm3 m−2 and the maximal soil loss value was registered in May 2013 and equalled 3,198 kg ha−1. Annual runoff volumes were between 31.2 dm3 m−2 in 2012 and 38.8 dm3 m−2 in 2013, whereas annual soil loss values ranged from 740 kg ha−1 in 2012 to 5,700 kg ha−1 in 2013. Soil erosion values caused by simulated rainfall during field experiments were similar or significantly higher than annual values. Surface runoff was between 31.2 dm3 m−2 in the first experiment and 34.2 dm3 m−2 in the second one, whilst soil loss was between 4,632 kg ha−1 and 8,637 kg ha−1. The achieved experiment results have been compared with soil erosion rate achieved from stationary observations. The results show that runoff and soil loss considerably increase during rainfalls with high amount, intensity and erosivity. Furthermore, individual extreme erosive events may exceed annual (secular) soil erosion processes. Conducted stationary research indicates that annual soil erosion primarily depends on individual rainfall and erosive events, which considerably exceed mean values. In order to evaluate the soil susceptibility to erosion by water in the Drawsko Lakeland, high resolution potential and actual soil erosion risk maps were prepared. The qualitative assessment of soil erosion risk was based on geoinformation technologies. The model considers following conditions affecting the size of soil erosion: slope steepness and aspect, topographic factor LS (unit upslope contributing area), lithology, rainfall erosivity (Modified Fournier Index calculated from monthly and annual precipitation data) and land use and land cover from Corine Land Cover 2006. To prepare the map of potential soil erosion risk, land use from Corine Land Cover was not considered. Thematic maps have been reclassified into a 4-degree division. The results of the soil erosion risk assessment in the Drawsko Lakeland reveal the fact that a majority of its area is characterized by moderate or low erosion risk levels. Areas with high erosion risk are mostly located in the northern part of the Lakeland. The achieved results from stationary observations and field experiments may indicate that the soil loss magnitude significantly increases during rainfall with higher intensity, greater totals and accumulated in time rainfall events. This may confirm the high potential of soil erosion by water processes of above- -average magnitude and intensity in the discharge of material from agricultural used slopes.

Opis:

The study on water erosion in the catchment basin of the Jeleni Brook was carried out in the years 1995-1999. The catchment of the Jeleni Brook has complex relief, receives frequent precipitations and thus is more threatened by water erosion. Soil cultivation and water from quickly melting snow can also be the factors affecting soil erosion. Waters from the melting snow produce rills of the following dimensions (mean values): width from 11.5 to 13.6 cm, depth - from 6.4 to 7.1 cm and length - from 39 to 112 m. The mean values of soil losses vary from 0.5 to 2.02 t·ha-¹. Erosion caused by intensive storm precipitation occurs less frequently but makes much higher soil losses. One of the registered incidents shows that 51.6 t·ha-¹ (4.5 mm of soil layer) can be washed out from the area of 0.66 ha. Combined effect of outwashing and ploughing in lower parts of slopes created new forms of relief such as agricultural terraces (escarps). Agricultural terraces assume the shape of scarps up to 2 m high and of different length (e.g. 150 m) along with the land use borderlines between e.g. forest and field or field and grassland. Agriculturally used soils within this catchment need protection based mainly on agrotechnical measures or on alteration of land use. Some areas should be afforested.
W latach 1995-1999 rejestrowano osady erozyjne i żłobiny na gruntach ornych w terenie czołowomorenowym w zlewni rolno-leśnej Potoku Jeleniego. Obszar zlewni wyróżnia się spośród innych intensywną rzeźbą młodoglacjalną (zbocza o znacznych spadkach) i częstszym występowaniem opadów intensywnych - burzowych, przez co jest silniej zagrożony erozją wodną. Do czynników erozyjnych kształtujących erozję wodną należy zaliczyć także agrotechnikę (niekorzystne uprawy rzędowe roślin) i pojawienie się wczesnowiosennych wód roztopowych. Erozja wodna przybiera formę spłukiwania powierzchniowego o nasileniu od słabego do umiarkowanego lub średniego według 5-stopniowej skali przyjętej w Polsce. Erozja powodowana wodami topniejącego śniegu wykształca żłobiny o wymiarach (według wartości średnich): szerokość 11,5-13,6 cm, głębokość 6,4-7,1 cm długość 39-112 m. Średnia wielkość zmywu glebowego wyniosła 0,5-2,02 t·ha-¹. Opady burzowe pojawiają się rzadziej, lecz przyczyniają się do silniejszego rozwoju procesów erozji - przybiera ona bardziej wyraziste formy żłobinowe lub nawet formę zmycia warstwowego, gdy cała warstwa gleby jest odtransportowana z pola (np. 4,5 mm, na powierzchni 0,66 ha). Zarejestrowany zmyw gleby wyniósł w takim przypadku 51,6 t·ha-¹. Zmyty materiał glebowy podlega daleko idącej segregacji w obrębie stożka erozyjnego i wykazuje odpowiednio zmienione właściwości chemiczne. Pierwiastki chemiczne podlegają przy tym transportowi związanemu z cząsteczkami glebowymi lub w formie rozpuszczonej i wtedy mogą odpływać poza granice erodowanego pola, do sieci hydrograficznej. Pierwotną przyczyną uruchomienia się procesów erozji wodnej było wylesienie tych obszarów dokonane w średniowieczu i objęcie ich użytkowaniem rolniczym. Według danych historycznych można szacować okres po wylesieniu (okres użytkowania rolniczego) na około 600 lat. W tym czasie na procesy erozji wodnej nałożyły się procesy erozji uprawowej związane z uprawą gleb, pracą narzędzi rolniczych, a szczególnie w ostatnich stuleciach - z pracą pługa. Sumowanie się efektów zmycia i naorywania gleby w dolnych częściach zboczy wytworzyło nowe formy rzeźby terenu, tzw. terasy rolne. Terasy te przybierają formę skarp o wysokości do 2 m i różnej długości (np. 150 m) o przebiegu zgodnym z granicą użytkowania, na styku las - pole, pole - użytek zielony, lub po granicy własności. W tym ostatnim przypadku skarpa powstaje przez podcięcie zbocza i odprowadzanie materiału glebowego w dół. Stwierdzono łącznie 11,5 km skarp daje to wskaźnik zagęszczenia 2,45 km·km-². Gleby użytkowane rolniczo w granicach zlewni wymagają działań ochronnych, głównie z wykorzystaniem zabiegów agrotechnicznych, a niekiedy także zmiany sposobu użytkowania. Niektóre obszary powinny być przeznaczone pod zalesienie.

Opis:

Soil erosion by water is an important economical issue, because it strongly degrades the environment. This phenomenon occurs in the Carpathian mountain areas, and it is caused largely by inappropriate land use. And in the last quarter of the century, in whole region significant structural changes took place - an increase of grassland areas. Research was made in the period of 2008-2010 in the Biała Woda catchment area (10.91 km²) - the Carpathian Mts. The study area under discussion is characterised by low share of arable lands and by high contribution of the permanent grasslands. In this paper the mass of eroded materials was determined by applying of the universal soil losses equation - USLE (WISCHEIER and SMITH, 1978), using main factors, which have the impact on shaping the catchment area e.g. geological structure, terrain relief, the soil, climate, particularly precipitation, land use and slopes. Main attention was focused on agricultural land use (grasslands), hydrographical and road network. Sometimes the field roads becomes streams (gullies, which create favourable conditions for linear erosion e.g. for transporting eroded material during, heavy rainfall. Therefore, structural-spatial changes whih now are taking place sometimes intensify the erosion process.
Erozja wodna gleb jest ważnym problemem gospodarczym, gdyż silnie degraduje środowisko przyrodnicze. Zjawisko to występuje na ok. 60% powierzchni obszarów górskich Karpat i jest w znacznej mierze spowodowane nieodpowiednim użytkowaniem ziemi, jak również nieprawidłowym rozmieszczeniem gruntów ornych. W ostatnim ćwierćwieczu nastąpiły istotne zmiany strukturalne - zwiększenie udziału użytków zielonych, dzięki czemu nabierają on szczególnego znaczenia produkcyjno-ochronnego. W pracy określono masę erodowanego materiału glebowego z zastosowaniem równania strat glebowych - USLE, opracowanego przez Wischeiera i Smitha. Wykorzystano główne czynniki wpływające na kształtowanie powierzchni zlewni, tj.: budowę geologiczną, rzeźbę terenu, glebę, klimat, zwłaszcza opady atmosferyczne, użytkowanie i spadek. Szczegółowo omówiono użytkowanie rolnicze ziemi, sieć hydrograficzną oraz sieć drogową. Drogi polne stają się tu niekiedy potokami, co sprzyja erozji liniowej, tj. odprowadzaniu w czasie dużych opadów erodowanego materiału. Dlatego też zachodzące obecnie przeobrażenia strukturalno-przestrzenne niekiedy intensyfikują procesy erozyjne. Zlewnia Grajcarka o powierzchni 84,45 km², jest użytkowana w sposób istotnie zróżnicowany. Do szczegółowej analizy wybrano więc zlewnię Białej Wody. Dorzecze Białej Wody zajmuje powierzchnię 10,91 km², rzeźba terenu jest silnie zróżnicowana, różnica miedzy najniższym a najwyższym punktem dorzecza wynosi 490 m n.p.m. Potok Biała Woda ma pięć większych dopływów, które rozcinają dorzecze Białej Wody do granic wododziału. W rozpatrywanym roku hydrologicznym (2010) masa erodowanej gleby wynosiła 87,4 t·km^-2·r^-1. Wynik ten klasyfikuje teren do II stopnia erozji wg Zachara, czyli słabej.

Opis:

Catchment of the Mielnica Stream is situated in Trzebnica Mills area, covered with loess soils and under an intensive agricultural use, Bathometrical and hydrometrical measurements were taken in the hydrological years 1982/83-1993/94. Daily and periodical masses of a suspended load carried out through the hydrometrical cross-section, flow and unit run-off rates were analysed. The weight of total measured annual sediment ranged from 2.56 Mg to 295.94 Mg. Value of the mean annual flow rate, at the catchment closing cross-section, ranged from 8 to 191s-1 and the maximum daily values from /8 to 434 /s-1. Additional analyses of water chemical composition were made in the years 1988-1990. Sixteen different chemical compounds and elements were investigated. Calculated chemical denudation indices were determined by the hydrometeorological conditions.

Opis:

Soil erosion is an important factor that should be considered when planning renewable natural resource projects, effects of which can be measured by modelling techniques. Therefore, disintegration models determine soil loss intensity and support soil conservation practices. This study estimates soil loss rates by water erosion using the Erosion Potential Method (EPM) in the Kebir Rhumel Watershed located in Northeast Algeria. The area is north to south sub-humid to semi-arid, receives irregular rainfall, and has steep slopes and low vegetation cover which makes it very vulnerable to erosion. The main factors in the EPM (soil erodibility, soil protection, slope, temperature, and rainfall) were evaluated using the Geographical Information System (GIS) and data provided by remote sensing technologies. The erosion intensity coefficient Z was 0.60, which indicates medium erosion intensity. While the results showed the average annual soil erosion of 17.92 Mg∙ha-1∙y -1, maximum and minimum losses are 190.50 Mg∙ha-1∙y-1 and 0.21 Mg∙ha-1∙y-1, respectively. The EPM model shows satisfactory results compared to some studies done in the basin, where the obtained results can be used for more appropriate management of land and water resources, sustainable planning, and environmental protection.

Opis:

Water and wind erosion are the most powerful factors in the decrease of soil fertility and a threat to food security. The study was conducted on the steppe zone in Ukraine (total area of 167.4 thous. km2), including agricultural land (131.6 thous. km2). At the first stage, the modeling of spatial differentiation of water and wind erosion manifestations was carried out to calculate losses of soil (Mg∙ha–1) and to determine their degradation. At the second stage, soil-climatic bonitet of zonal soils (points) is carried out to determine their natural fertility (Mg∙ha–1). At the third stage, the spatial adjustment of the natural soil fertility to the negative effect of erosion was carried out. This made it possible to calculate crop losses and total financial losses due to water and wind erosion. The integrated spatial modeling showed that about 68.7% of arable land was constantly affected by the combined erosion, in particular the area of low eroded arable land (16.8%), and medium and highly eroded land (22.1%). Due to erodibility of soil, about 23.3% of agricultural land transferred from the category of high and medium quality to medium, low and very low quality, which is caused by the loss of soil fertility of up to 70%, crop losses of up to 1.93 Mg∙ha–1 ha–1 and eduction of agricultural income up to 390 USD∙ha–1. In the steppe region under the research, gross crop losses from erosion were up to 15.11 thous. Mg∙ha–1 (3.05 mln USD). In order to protect soils, improve fertility and increase crop yields in the steppe zone in Ukraine, the following measures were suggested: adaptive and landscape erosion control design with elements of conservation farming in accordance with the spatial differentiation of soil quality and extent of water erosion deflation danger.

Opis:

Up-to-date studies on erosion, including erosion on loessial soils, are based on the division of an actual topographic surface into three zones assumed a 'priori': top area, eroded slope area and foot-hill area as depositional area. As the main research method for the field survey the soil-levelling cross-section has been used most frequently. Although this method allowed us to introduce erosion protection measures in the form of antierosion fields, however, these measures did not work properly in practice because of two reasons: 1) insufficient recognition of the soil cover variability on the basis of soil-levelling cross-sections for establishing the agroecological zones, and 2) basing the analysis of erosion effects mainly on the course of chemical properties. A new approach, described in this paper, evaluates the soils in the eroded loessial region also on the basis of their physical properties. A point valorization scale was developed basing on eight physical and two chemical features of the eroded soils. Computed synthetic valorization indices allow us to classify the uneroded, totally eroded or deluvial soils into the category of good soils, while those being slightly, moderately or severely eroded are classified as medium quality soils.

Lublin municipal waste water effluent treated in two stages (mechanical and biological) was used in the monoliths filled with loess soil of an undisturbed structure taken from different erosion zones: W - top (grey-brown podzolic soil): D - bottom of the valley (deluvial soil); N - northern slope (brown soil - weakly eroded), S - southern slope (calcareous soil - strongly eroded). Control objects were the monoliths treated with equal amounts of water and nutrients: N, P, K, Mg. In the soils treated with sewage and water and mineral salts, a similar increase in the content of soluble metal forms (Zn, Cu, Mn, Pb, Cd, Ni) was observed.

Opis:

Spatial raster distribution models of the values of factors influencing the potential soil erosion hazard were created using GIS technologies. The erosion hazard was estimated using the modified RUSLE (Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation) model. The potential of annual soil loss of arable land was calculated. The spatial gradation of erosion violation of administrative and territorial units in the steppe zone of Ukraine was provided. About 32.7% of arable land that is subject to high erosion hazard was allocated. About 48 administrative and territorial units have a specific area less than 5% of erosion disturbed lands. They are characterized by a resistant type of agrolandscapes regarding the water-erosion processes. Most administrative and territorial units with high erosive-accumulative potential (the percentage of the area is 15% or more) are located in the western and southwestern parts of the steppe zone of Ukraine. The specific area of erosion hazardous lands reaches up to 32% in separate administrative-territorial units. The obtained results allow determining the need for a spatially discrete-distribution implementation of adaptive-landscape anti-erosion design with the elements of soil-protective agriculture.

The influence of soil cultivation on soil water management, which determines yielding of plants under extreme weather phenomena - periodic droughts or intense rainfall, is presented. The deterioration of soil condition and water circulation in soil due to improper cultivation and other field work was discussed. Technical and technological remedies were presented, improving the soil's ability to infiltrate, retain and provide water to plants. In the summary, it was found that measures improving soil water management are possible in any tillage system, and specific conservation measures are required by soils endangered by water erosion.

Badano zmiany wskaźników zakwaszenia, wysycenia kompleksu sorpcyjnego kationami zasadowymi oraz wartości stosunków H:Mg i sumy kationów zasadowych do wodoru S:H w okresie od 1987 do 1999 w glebach erodowanych w warunkach polowych oraz umieszczonych w monolitach bez oddziaływania procesów erozji wodnej. Badane wskaźniki właściwości fizykochemicznych gleb w warunkach polowych w okresie 13 lat nie uległy znaczącym zmianom. Gleby zerodowane przeniesione do monolitów, wyłączone spod presji erozji wodnej uległy wyraźnemu zakwaszeniu.
Changes of indicators of acidification, saturation of sorptive complex with bases and values of ratios H:Mg and sum of bases to hydrogen S:H in period from 1987 to 1999 in eroded soils in field conditions and excluded under processesof water erosion were investigated. Studied indicators of physicochemical soil properties in field conditions did not succumb considerable changes. Eroded soils installed in monoliths, did not affect of water erosion have been acidified.

In the present paper, on the basis of altitude measurements, changes of topographic profiles of a chosen dried valley in Elizowkaon the arable land were presented. Intensity of water erosion was also studied on the unprotected loess terrain for 40 years.On the average, 22 cm of mud deposited on the tested section of the valley bottom (total area of 1.28 ha) along 500 m of the water race line, with the average width of 25.ʹ6 m. In consequence, the local erosion basis was raised and the average inclination decreased slightly. Physico-chemical properties did not significantly change within 40 years and these factors are typical of deluvial soils with unshaped profile. Their partial improvement points to reduction and stabilisation of erosion processes. That phenomenon is associated with slight thaw water run-off and the lack of larger storm precipitation.

Opis:

W pracy przedstawiono wyniki pomiarów rozbryzgu i zmywu gleby oraz spływu powierzchniowego na poletkach z burakami cukrowymi oraz utrzymywanymi w ugorze. Na poletkach z burakami prowadzono pomiary wskaźnika ulistnienia oraz wysokości roślin. Stwierdzono, że efektywność okrywy roślinnej w ograniczaniu zmywu gleby można ze zbliżoną dokładnością ocenić za pomocą obu parametrów roślinnych. Opracowano model do prognozowania zmywu gleby dla uprawy buraków cukrowych w oparciu o energię kinetyczną opadu i wskaźnik ulistnienia.
Results of field experiments conducted according to the USLE method are presented. Together with measurements of splash,soil loss, and runoff leaf area indexand plant height were eveluated. Effectiveness of crop cover in limiting of erosion was correlated with both plant parameters at similar level.A regression model to predict soil loss on the basis of kinetic energy and leaf area index was proposed.

The main aim of this work was the application of the soil additives into soil and the study of their impact on the amount of surface runoff originating from rainwater. Execution of research was carried out on the modified portion of the land at Department of Biometeorology and Hydrology, SUA Slovakia. Land was divided into four experimental plots. Individual treatments consisted of application of perlite, charcoal and water glass into the top layer of the experimental plots. The fourth experimental field was kept as a black fallow (control). To perform the measurements, rainfall simulator was used in six measurement series. We can conclude that the application of perlite is not an adequate treatment for erosion control practices, since its application increased the surface runoff. Increased application dose of additives resulted in the positive effects of the water glass application. Surface runoff for this treatment decreased in average by about 41% in comparison to control. This positive effect was observed only after the second application of the soil additives.

Since 1990 in Poland, a lot of soils have been changed to fallow.At first, degraded soils from eroded areas were changed. Some of them are fallow till today.Research work was carried out on the erroded soils that were under intense agricultural use in the 80-ties.Investigations on the superficial layer of these soils were carried out in 1995, after a four-year periodof fallow conditions. The investigations concentrated on the changes in chemical properties of the humus horizon (0 - 20cm) and changes of biological activity (0-40 cm) formed during the fallow period.The range of changes in the chemical properties was not big.However, biological activity of these soils changed more substantially. A decrease of C organic content was also characteristics. The present authors determined also a decrease of hydrolytic acidity in some soils, according to their location in the relief. In some soils, the content of Mg and K available forms was higher. Some of the soil functions related to habitation were changed too, e.g. visible forms of water erosion stopped.

Opis:

W pracy przedstawiono osiągnięte efekty po 40-letnim okresie funkcjonowania zabezpieczeń przeciwerozyjnych wykonanych w lessowym wąwozie drogowym w Elizówce koło Lublina. Projekt zabudowy wąwozu drogowego zakładał zahamowanie rozmywu dna i wprowadzenie roślinności w celu uproduktywnienia erodowanego nieużytku. W dnie wąwozu wykonano 18 niskich grobelek z rdzeniem z desek i kiszek faszynowych, następnie dno obsiano mieszanką traw oraz posadzono drzewa (topola, grochodrzew). W następnych latach rozszerzono gamę gatunków drzew oraz wprowadzono krzewy. Techniczno-biologiczne umocnienie wąwozu okazało się skuteczne. Zabezpieczenia techniczne w postaci niskich grobelek ziemnych, skutecznie chroniły dno przed rozmywaniem i powodowały akumulację materiału glebowego w pierwszych latach kiedy roślinność nie opanowała dostatecznie wąwozu. Dzięki zastosowanej roślinności teren wąwozu został uproduktywniony, a zastosowanie drzew i krzewów o różnym tempie wzrostu sprawiło, że zadrzewienie w badanym wąwozie ma charakter zwarty i wielopiętrowy. Zastosowanie gatunków szybko rosnących (topola, grochodrzew), umożliwiło szybką produkcję grubych sortymentów drzewnych. Celowe okazało się sadzenie razem z gatunkami szybko rosnącymi, gatunków wolniej rosnących i dobrze znoszących w młodości duże zacienienie, ponieważ po usunięciu gatunków szybko rosnących one będą stanowiły osłonę przeciwerozyjną i najwyższe piętro drzew. Obecnie roślinność stworzyła dostateczną osłonę przeciwerozyjną likwidując zupełnie procesy erozji wodnej w wąwozie. Dodatkowo zwarte zadrzewienie przyczynia się do regeneracji gleby oraz stanowi ostoję dla ptactwa i drobnej zwierzyny łownej w terenie gdzie występuje mata lesistość. Przedstawiony wyżej kierunek zabudowy wąwozu drogowego wydaje się być najodpowiedniejszym dla większości podobnych wąwozów wytworzonych w skale lessowej.
Effects of anti-erosion measures functioning for 40 years, madę in loess road ravine ij Elizówka near Lublin are presented. The project of road ravine development assumed the inhibitiol of the bottom wash-out and introduction of plants to make the eroded area producible. Eighteen Iow dykes with core madę of boards and fascine were built in the bottom then grass mixture was sowi and trees were set (Poplus sp., Robinia pseudoacacia). Another tree species and bushes were introduced in the following years. Technical and biological ravine protection appeared to bel efficient. The technical protection as Iow ground dykes efficiently protected the bottom against the wash-out and madę the soil materiał accumulate in several first years when plants did not get the ravine under control, yet. Due to plants used, the ravine area became producible, and the bushes and; trees of different growth ratę madę the trees became of dense and multi-level character. Application of fast-growing species (poplar, robinia) madę possible the fast production of wood assortments. Setting of fast-growing species altogether with slow-growing and tolerating the darkness ones appeared to be intentional because the latter would be the anti-erosion protection and the highest level of trees after the fast-growing ones removal. At present, plants make sufficient anti-erosion protection fully removing the water erosion processes in the ravine. Additionally, dense trees contribute to the soil regeneration and it is the support for birds and smali games on an area of slight afforestation. The direction of ravine development presented above seems to be the most proper for majority of similar ravines madę in loess rock.

Opis:

The aim of this paper was to assess differentiation in the total content of Cu, Zn and Mn under the influence of water erosion. The present author investigated parent material, eroded soils and delluvial sediments of a small arable-forest catchment of the moraine zone in West Pomerania. The average content of heavy metals in the parent rock (boulder light loam) were assumed as geochemical backgrounds of Cu, Zn and Mn. It was found out that erosion process caused differentiation in heavy metals. Zinc was the most mobile in this transportation; Mn was not sensitive to it. Delluvial sediments from arable (drainage) depressions had a clearly lower content of Cu and Zn than the parent material. It was also noted that Cu and Zn content in the forest area was lower than in the arable area of a similar relief and soil composition. Mn content was always higher in the arable soils. Soil-forming processes influenced differentiation of heavy metals in the vertical soil profile. The humus and Bt horizons (accumulation of silicate clay) were enriched with heavy metals. A decrease of heavy metal content was noticed in the eluvial horizon (Eet - outwash of silicate clay). The humus horizon of the investigated soil had, a natural (not increased) content of Cu, Zn and Mn.

Celem pracy było określenie zagrożenia erozją wodną gleb lessowych w zlewni cząstkowej Ścieklec na podstawie masy erodowanego materiału glebowego z wykorzystaniem równania strat glebowych − USLE (wg WISCHMEIERA i SMITHA [1978]), w którym wykorzystuje się wartości podstawowych czynników określających: rzeźbę terenu zlewni, nachylenie stoków, budowę geologiczną, rodzaj gleb, opady atmosferyczne oraz sposób rolniczego użytkowania. W pracy przedstawiono również metody zapobiegania erozji na tym terenie, a zwłaszcza w zakresie właściwej agrotechniki i przekształceń strukturalnych. Teren zlewni zagrożony jest erozją wodną [SMOROŃ 2012], jednak znajdują się na nim też obszary, gdzie zjawisko to nabiera istotnego znaczenia dla produkcji rolniczej, jak również stwarza zagrożenie dla środowiska wodno-glebowego. Sprzyja temu urozmaicona rzeźba terenu, bardzo duża podatność gleb lessowych uprawianych mechanicznie na zmywy powierzchniowe, a także mały udział trwałych użytków zielonych (ok.7%) i lasów (ok 6%). Średnia roczna temperatura powietrza z wielolecia na badanym terenie jest wysoka i waha się od 7,0 do 8,0 °C, a średnia roczna suma opadów atmosferycznych wynosi ok. 570 mm.
The objective of this paper was to assess water erosion threats of loess soil in the Ścieklec River sub-catchment (the Szreniawa River basin). The USLE equation [WISCHMEIER, SMITH 1978] was applied which considers the main factors determining the catchment terrain relief, land slopes, geological structure, type of soils, precipitations and the land use. Also, preventive measures against soil erosion, particularly proper agronomy are discussed. The studied area is moderately threatened by water erosion, but there are areas where this phenomenon is of significant importance for agricultural production and for the soil-water environment. Diverse land relief, mechanically cultivated loess soils highly susceptible to rain wash and small shares of grasslands (about 7%) and forests (about 6%) facilitate water erosion. Average multiyear air temperature is high and varies from 7.0 to 8.0°C, and annual precipitation is about 570 mm.

W pracy przeanalizowano zmiany składu granulometrycznego i zawartość materii organicznej w glebie, która uległa zmyciu z kolein w czasie 30 minutowego deszczowania. Erozję wodną gleby badano w koleinach utworzonych ciągnikiem oraz w koleinach pozostawionych przez ciągnik z przyczepą. Pomiary wykonano na glebie lekkiej w warunkach kontrolowanych przy użyciu symulowanego deszczu.
The study examines changes in texture composition and organic matter content in the soil which was washed away from ruts in the course of a 30 minute sprinkling. Water erosion was examined in ruts made by a tractor and in ruts made by a tractor pulling a trailer. Measurements were taken on a light soil in controlled conditions using sprinkling.

Opis:

Water erosion causes migration of the finest soil particles and chemical compounds. The paper attempts to compare the mechanical composition of sediments susceptible to water erosion on the hillslopes with different cover crops. The research was conducted on the experimental plots in Puczniew. Its results showed that the composition of the sediment washed out from the fallow land significantly differed from that washed out from the plots with grass and barley crops. In the case of fallow land, soil particles were markedly larger. This might indicate the existence of a very hard mineral fraction.
W wyniku erozji wodnej następuje migracja najdrobniejszych cząstek glebowych oraz związków chemicznych. W artykule podjęto próbę porównania składu mechanicznego osadów ulegających erozji wodnej na stokach różnie użytkowanych na podstawie badań prowadzonych na poletkach doświadczalnych w Puczniewie. Z przeprowadzonych badań wynika, że wymywany sedyment z ugoru znacznie różni się od składu sedymentu wymywanego z poletek użytkowanych jako trawa i jęczmień. W przypadku ugoru pojawiły się dużo większe cząsteczki niż w przypadku jęczmienia i trawy, świadczy o tym dodatkowy pik przy cząstkach największych. Może to świadczyć o tym, że jest to bardzo twarda frakcja mineralna.

Rainfalls, topographic features, and catchment management are the main factors that affect the amounts of soil denudation. Studies carried out within loess catchment, being ploughed and covered with orchards, were aimed at evaluating the water erosion intensity and assessing the anti-erosion effi ciency of in-field retention reservoirs. After intensive rainfalls in 2001/2002–2003/2004, the quantity of erosion damages was assessed on a base of recorded erosion landforms and capacity of the soil material sedimented in reservoirs. Analysis of translocated soil quantities in micro-catchments of particular reservoirs confirmed the infl uence of catchment management on water erosion processes. Great importance of in-field water reservoirs in retention of the eroded soil material was proved.
Głównymi czynnikami wpływającymi na ilość zmywanej gleby są opady deszczu, ukształtowanie terenu i sposób zagospodarowania zlewni. Badania przeprowadzone w zlewni lessowej, będącej w użytkowaniu orno-sadowniczym, miały na celu określenie natężenia erozji wodnej i ocenę przeciwerozyjnego działania śródpolnych zbiorników retencyjnych. Po intensywnych opadach deszczu w latach 2001/2002–2003/2004 określono wielkość szkód erozyjnych na podstawie zarejestrowanych form erozyjnych oraz kubatury materiału glebowego osadzonego w czaszach zbiorników. Analiza wielkości przemieszczonej gleby w mikrozlewniach poszczególnych zbiorników potwierdziła znaczenie użytkowania zlewni na przebieg procesów erozji wodnej. Stwierdzono duże znaczenie śródpolnych zbiorników wodnych w zatrzymywaniu wyerodowanego materiału glebowego.

The subjects of this study were uncultivated mining waste heaps which are remnants of the territories abandoned after the exploration of iron ore. The aim of this analysis was the assessment of the influence of these objects on the soil located in the nearest surroundings, as well as estimation of the level of their degradation. It was ascertained that direct geomechanical degradation exists in the examined object, which is connected with soil profile destruction in consequence of transformation of hitherto existing geomorphological conditions, deformation of natural shape of territory, density of soil levels and deformation of the spatial layout. As a result of the examination, it was pointed out that chemical degradation as well as degradation of ecological structure occur on the analyzed territory. Progressing processes of water erosion on the side of waste heap are the consequence of improperly profiled, steep slopes causing the uncontrolled flow of rainwater, lack of flora and dense, micrograiny structure of soils which prevents the effective infiltration of water. Penetration of water into the ground causes the creation of channels which, in dry periods, can become additional pathways for the possible landslides.

The pinhole test is an empirical test based on the qualitative evaluation of the dispersivity (colloidal erodibility) of compacted fined-grained soils. This study evaluates the pinhole test device for the quantitative assessment of the susceptibility of soil horizons to piping. The experiments performed on different loess-derived soil horizons, with different hydraulic head and using distilled water show that the clay-enriched horizon (Bt horizon) is less susceptible to piping than the decalcified (C1) and the calcareous horizon (C2). This study demonstrates that the pinhole test is suitable for assessing the susceptibility of soil horizons to piping in a quantitative way.

Celem opracowania, była ocena zagrożeń erozyjnych i degradacji gleb lessowych na terenie rolniczej zlewni rzeki Ciemięgi na Płaskowyżu Nałęczowskim. W latach 1996-1997 wykonano pomiary wybranych właściwości gleb z zastosowaniem infiltrometru, symulatora opadów deszczu oraz sezonowe pomiary jakości wody w rzece, poprzez określenie ilości wynoszonej zawiesiny w trzech punktach pomiarowych. Średnia wartość strat erozyjnych gleby wynosiła 192 i7km2/rok. Obliczenia wykonane przy pomocy modelu USLE nic odbiegały od danych empirycznych. Model umożliwił oszacowanie wielkości strat gleby w zlewni w okresie roku oraz wskazał na kierunki przekształceń w użytkowaniu zlewni, które winny doprowadzić do ograniczenia strat gleby, a tym samym procesów degradacyjnych.
The aim of the study was to estimate erosion risk and soil degradation in the loessial agricultural basin of the Ciemięga river in Lublin with the use of USLE. In the years 1996-1997 field measurements were performed with disk infiltrometer, rainfall simulator as well as seasonal water properties were controlled (sediment yield) in three measuring points.Empirical data obtained and computer simulation data allow us to estimate both erosion risk and soil degradation in this area. Mean yearly soil loss amoumted 192t/km2/year. Simulation data correlated quite well with empirical data. The model also allowed us to point out proper measures to reduce erosion risk in the Ciemięgariver basin.

Opis:

Agrophysics is a science dealing with physical properties and processes affecting plant production. The main topics of agrophysical investigations are mass ( water, air, plant nutrients) and energy (light, heat) exchange in the soil-plant-atmosphere continuum and way their regulation to reach biomass of high quantity and quality. Agrophisical investigations can be presented in the form of a tree - parameter system of classification. the term "Agrophysics" similarly to "Agrochemistry" "Agrobiology" "Agromelioration""Agroclimatology" or "Agroecology" has been fully accepted as an agricultural specialization. Agrophysics research are developed by meny scientific institutes but only the Instituí of Agrophysics in Lublin (Poland) is the strongest unit for a complex investigations in the field of agrophysics.AC The Institute of Agrophysics (IA PAN) is one of the institutes of the Polish Academy of Sciences, It was founded by Professor Bohdan Dobrzański in 1968 in Lublin who was the first and long-term director of the Institute (till 1980). The staff of the Institute consists of 100 workers including 68 scientific representing various specializations: physics, physicochemistry, soil science, agricultural engineering, mechanics, mathematics, electronics, geography and biology. These scientists have ery high qualifications achieved during long trainings in domestic and foreign centres. They were employed as postgraduate students and got their scientific degree on agrophysics. The Institute uses it's own building covering a surface of about 5 000 m2 situated in Lublin-Felin. The scientific structure of the Institute consists of six departments: 1. Hydrolherrnophysics of Soil Hnvironment and Agricultural Materials. 2. Aeration and Gas Exchange of Soil Environment and Agricultural Materials. 3. Mechanics of Agricultural Materials. 4. Physicochemistry of Agricultural Materials. 5. Agrophysical Bases of Soil Environment Management. 6. Physical Bases of the Evaluation and Improvement of Plant Materials, The Institute is a coordinator of agrophysical investigations in Poland and cooperates with meny scientific institutions over the world. The agrophysicial investigations carried out by the Institute and under its coordination allow us to deepen our fundamental knowledge about the physical and physicochemical properties and processes concerning agricultural materials. They also have introduced new elements to environmental protection which are significant to the economy. The results from these investigations may be used to: decrease soil physical degradation caused by erosion, soil crusting, sealing, compaction and structure destruction; increase the efficiency of water and fertilizer use; improve the technology of harvesting, storing and processing of plant materials to decrease quantitative ad qualitative losses of these materials; improve plant breading through formulation of physical properties of plants. The development of a theoretical basis in the field of agrophysics is of great importance for many agricultural specialization, e.g., soil science, soil technology, land reclamation, agricultural engineering, agroclimatology, agrochemistry, plant breeding and plant technology.

The work presents the results of research on erosion and landform changes of a bottom of a dry erosive-accumulation valley in Elizówka in 1958, 1970 and 2016. The changes have been examined with the use of geodetic topographic surveys techniques. The research field was a 480-metres long part of the valley bottom. The topographic surveys in 1958 and 1970 were conducted with longitudinal (parallel to the bottom of the valley) and cross (every 20 metres) sections method. In 2016 the modern measuring devices were used. All the results, together with coordinates of points and historical data were converted into GIS spatial layer. The altitude values formed the input data for interpolation of rasters showing changes of the topography in three periods. Three TIN models were also developed to distinguish erosion and accumulation zones plus the quantity of eroded and accumulated material. The valley on the majority of its length has been raised and has changed from V-shaped into U-shaped. Accumulation of the soil material led to levelling the bottom. Accumulation concentrates along a flow line, while soil washout mainly at the bottom of slopes. The thickest sediment layers were observed in the lowest part. For the whole 1958–2016 period a total of 3470 m³ soil material has been deposited on the area of about 1.62 ha, while in the same time only 130 m³ has been eroded (from 0.22 ha).

W pracy podjęto próbę zastosowania modeli erozyjno-hydrologicznych USLE i AGNPS do symulacji komputerowej zagrożeń erozyjnych oraz charakterystyki zanieczyszczeń wód powierzchniowych w zlewni rzeki Ciemięgi. W oparciu o dane z literatury dotyczące omawianej zlewni oraz badania własne gleb i wód rzeki Ciemięgi, wykonane w dwóch okresach hydrologiczno-wegetacyjnych roślin 1996 i 1997 roku, uzyskano dane wejściowe do modeli, uwzględniające istotne elementy glebowe i klimatyczne. Teren zlewni rzeki Ciemięgi z racji gleb lessowych i swego urzeźbienia, jest podatny na intensywne procesy erozyjne, które są jeszcze intensyfikowane rolniczym użytkowaniem terenu i mają istotny wpływ na jakość wód powierzchniowych. Zróżnicowanie zawartości oznaczonych makro- i mikroelementów na całej długości badanego odcinka rzeki świadczyły o nierównomiernym obciążeniu dorzecza działalnością gospodarczą. Uzyskane wyniki pozwoliły określić stopień zanieczyszczania wód rzeki makro- i mikroelementami. W badanym okresie oznaczone składniki chemiczne wód rzeki nie przekroczyły (poza fosforanami) wartości wskazujących na pogorszenie jakości wody. Dokonano symulacji komputerowej spływu i zmywu powierzchniowego, stwierdzając, że model USLE daje możliwość oszacowania i przewidywania strat masy glebowej w postaci materiału wyniesionego poza obszar zlewni w ciągu roku. Równanie USLE wykazuje wiele zalet, mimo że szereg danych wejściowych ma charakter jakościowy, a nie ilościowy. Symulacja komputerowa przy pomocy programu USLE obrazuje znaczący wpływ na intensywność erozji zarówno zasięgu upraw, jak też sposobu użytkowania zlewni. Program AGNPS, charakteryzujący ilości odpływu wody z powierzchni gleby w momencie wystąpienia opadu erozyjnego oraz stratę materiału glebowego, związków chemicznych, wykazał dużą czułość na intensywność deszczu. Należy stwierdzić, że badania i uzyskane wyniki pozwoliły w sposób kompleksowy oszacować zagrożenia wynikające z erozji wodnej na obszarze zlewni rzeki Ciemięgi w terenie lessowym, w której dominuje użytkowanie rolnicze. Zastosowana po raz pierwszy w zlewniach lessowych symulacja komputerowa w oparciu o model USLE i program AGNPS, zweryfikowana uzyskanymi własnymi danymi, dobrze szacuje zagrożenia erozyjne zlewni i zanieczyszczeń wód rzeki Ciemięgi. Może ona być wykorzystana do przewidywania zagrożeń wywołanych tymi procesami w innych urzeźbionych zlewniach użytkowanych rolniczo.
In this paper an attempt was undertaken to apply erosion-hydrological models, i.e. USLE (Universal Soil Loss Equation) and AGNPS (Agricultural Non-Point Source Pollution) for estimation and computer simulation of erosion risks and surface water pollution characteristics in the Ciemięga river catchment. Basing on the available literature data, about the studied catchment area as well as on the authors research, performed in the vegetation and hydrological periods of the years 1996-1997, the input data were collected to run the above models. They included data on: catchment physiography, land use, climatic conditions, soil features and human induced environment impacts. The study area is typical for loessial rolling terrain of the Lublin Upland. It is very susceptible to erosion processes which are additionally accelerated by agricultural activities. All the above factors have significant influence on surface water quality. The results on the content of micro- and macroelements in the Ciemięga river water evidenced that chemical loads were irregularly distributed along the river course, depending on the intensity and type of land use and human activity. The amounts of chemical elements measured in water in the study periods did not exceed the critical loads, thus they were not harmful to the environment and water quality, except the level of phosphates. Computer simulation performed for surface runoff and soil loss showed that USLE gives reasonably good data to estimate and forecast erosion rates and risks within the catchment in the whole hydrological year. Therefore, it can be stated that USLE model is sensitive enough for this general characteristics, despite the fact that many input data to compute this equation are of qualitative (not quantitative) character. The USLE simulation showed that the erosion intensity in the study area was most significantly influenced by the crop and land use types. AGNPS programme, which allows to calculate and estimate the rate and amount of surface runoff, outflow, soil and chemical elements losses at the moment of rain occurrence (single event), showed high sensitivity to rainfall parameters. It should be stated that simulation data were in accordance with both the literature and authors' experimental data. They allowed for complex estimation of erosion risks in the study area, i.e. lossial river catchment where agriculture activity predominates. Finally, it can be concluded that both USLE and AGNPS models were used for the first time to calculate and estimate erosion rates in loessial basins in Polish conditions, and because the simulation data appeared to be reliable and were in accordance with experimental data available so-far, they can be recommended for further considerations in other basins.

The paper presents the ecological effects of land consolidation carried out in upland loess areas. The design of a large plot of land on a slope with a gradient of up to 18% and its impact on the intensity of water erosion were investigated. The analyzed plot was created by consolidation 12 smaller plots. Before the consolidation, all plots had a cross-slope layout and direction of agrotechnical operations. Exactly the same arrangement remained after the consolidation. The WEPP simulation model was used for the comparison of the pre-consolidation and postconsolidation state. The amount of soil loss and sediment yield was estimated under different scenarios of slope management. It was found that after consolidation (creation of a plot with the width of more than 130 m), as a result of removing of terraces and sodded cross-slope scarps, the intensity of erosion increased many times. In order to restore the anti-erosion effect of cross-slope cultivation on such a slope without increasing the difficulties of agrotechnics, it is necessary to restore the sodded scarps that existed before consolidation. The simulation results show that the scarps should be located transversely to the slope (along the plot) in the middle and lower parts of the slope, in the place of the highest inclination. As advantage of the consolidation project was considered the elimination of longitudinal balks which were focuses of linear erosion on the slope.

The research was carried out in a fi eld experiment in eroded Haplic Luvisols developed from loess at a privately owned farm in Bogucin (51°20’N, 22°23’E) at the Lublin Upland. After spring wheat had been sawn, 9 plots with an area of 9 m2 each, including 3 control plots, were marked out. AgroHydroGel was spread over in the doses of 1 gּ kg–1 and 2 gּ kg–1 recalculated to dry soil) and mixed within the 0–5 cm layer of soil. AgroHydroGel is a cross-linked hydrophilic polyacrylamide copolymer with water absorption of 300–500 gּ cm–3. Soil samples were collected in June and August 2005 at the layer of 0–5 cm. The results of this study indicate that the use of AgroHydroGel in the doses of 1 and 2 gּ kg–1 improved the majority of the water-air properties in the soil surface layer. The bulk density decreased signifi cantly hereas the maximum water capacity, saturated hydraulic conductivity, total porosity, content of macropores > 20 μm, actual air permeability and permeability at fi eld water saturation were signifi cantly higher. The polymer dose of 2 gּ kg–1 was more effective, increasing signifi cantly also fi eld water capacity in the soils studied. The applied doses of the hydrogel did not change signifi cantly actual soil moisture, retention of water useful to plants, including retention of easily available water, and content of water-stable aggregates < 0.2 μm in diameter. A more benefi cial effect of AgroHydroGel on water-air properties of the eroded soils was found in August.
Badania prowadzono w poletkowym doświadczeniu na zerodowanych glebach płowych wytworzonych z lessu w gospodarstwie indywidualnym w Bogucinie (51°20’N, 22°23’E) na Wyżynie Lubelskiej. Po siewie pszenicy jarej na badanych glebach wytyczono 9 poletek o powierzchni 9 m2, w tym trzy poletka kontrolne. AgroHydroGel wysiano w dawkach 1 gּ kg–1 i 2 gּ kg–1 w stosunku do masy gleby suchej w warstwie 0–5 cm i wymieszano z glebą. AgroHydroGel jest usieciowanym, hydrofilowym kopolimerem poliakryloamidowym, o absorpcji wody 300–500 gּ cm–3. Próbki glebowe pobrano w czerwcu i sierpniu 2005 r. z warstwy 0–5 cm. Wyniki badań wykazały, że wniesienie AgroHydroGelu w dawkach 1 i 2 gּ kg–1 polepszyło większość właściwości wodno-powietrznych w warstwie 0–5 cm gleb. Zmniejszyła się istotnie gęstość gleby, zwiększyła się istotnie pełna pojemność wodna, przewodnictwo wodne nasycone, porowatość ogólna, zawartość makroporów > 20 μm oraz aktualna przepuszczalność powietrzna i przepuszczalność przy polowym nasyceniu wodą. Skuteczniej działała dawka polimeru 2 gּ kg–1, która zwiększyła istotnie również polową pojemność wodną w badanych glebach. Zastosowane dawki hydrożelu nie zmieniły istotnie wilgotności aktualnej gleb, retencji wody użytecznej dla roślin, w tym retencji wody łatwo dostępnej oraz zawartości mikroporów glebowych o średnicy < 0,2 μm. Bardziej korzystny wpływ Agro-HydroGelu na właściwości wodno-powietrzne gleb zerodowanych stwierdzono w sierpniu.

Excavation photos of the earthwork of Altheim from 1914 show a fully-developed Luvisol (para-brown earth). In 2012, fieldwork recommenced at the site and revealed a second ditched enclosure as well as the serious impact of soil erosion: In the course of a century about 0.4 m of the ditch feature has been lost. In comparison with the total amount of erosion since the creation of the earthwork in the 37th/36th century BC the loss of soil material has dramatically accelerated during the past century.

Water erosion remains a major concern on the marly slopes. Where erosive processes continue to increase and continue to pose serious problems and where knowledge is still insufficient on erodibility and its evolution and on solutions to soil erosion problems. The aim of this work is to contribute to the understanding of the functioning of soils on marl substrate in relation to erosion and to evaluate the effectiveness of the anti-erosion measures used in this type of environment. The Isser watershed, where several anti-erosion techniques were used, is the subject of this study. The analysis of the anti-erosion installations shows that most of the developments have been made according to standards and have worked well. But their effectiveness is different from one technique to another. The earthen thresholds seem to be the most suitable and the most effective. The effectiveness of earthen structures is summed up in stability, durability, cost-effectiveness, sediment storage, flood plating and water storage for a significant length of time, and had a positive impact on reducing erosion and the silting rate of the dam. The gabion thresholds also have a better stability and a good seating, but they are very sensitive and can undergo damage that reduces their effectiveness with regard to erosion. Dry stone thresholds are the least desirable and are often inadequate and inefficient in this type of terrain. A purely mechanical and/or biological vision in this type of environment is however insufficient, the mechanical arrangements associated with the biological developments are more effective.
Erozja wodna jest głównym problemem na stokach skał marglowych. Tam właśnie procesy erozyjne nasilają się i stwarzają poważne problemy, a wiedza na temat erozyjności i możliwych rozwiązań w odniesieniu do erozji gleb jest nadal niewystarczająca. Celem tej pracy była próba określenia podatności gleb na podłożu marglowym na erozję i ocena skuteczności działań przeciwerozyjnych stosowanych w takim środowisku. Obiektem badań była zlewnia Isser w Algierii, gdzie zastosowano kilka technik przeciwerozyjnych. Analiza instalacji przeciwerozyjnych wykazała, że większość z nich wykonano zgodnie z normami i działały one poprawnie. Ich efektywność była różna. Najbardziej odpowiednie i skuteczne okazały się stopnie ziemne. Efektywność ziemnych struktur ocenia się na podstawie stabilności, trwałości, kosztów, spłaszczania fali powodziowej i długiego przetrzymywania wody i osadów, co miało pozytywny wpływ na ograniczenie erozji i zamulanie zbiornika. Konstrukcje gabionowe odznaczały się stabilnością i dobrym posadowieniem, ale były bardzo wrażliwe i ulegały uszkodzeniom, co ograniczało ich skuteczność w przeciwdziałaniu erozji. Najmniej pożądane były konstrukcje kamienne, często nieodpowiednie i mało wydajne na takich terenach. Czysto mechaniczne lub biologiczne podejście do problemu jest niewystarczające, dopiero powiązanie mechanicznych rozwiązań z elementami biologicznymi może przynieść pożądany skutek.

W zlewni potoku Ścieklec, będącego lewostronnym dopływem rzeki Szreniawy, określano zawartość materiału glebowego erodowanego w formie zawiesiny ogólnej. Scharakteryzowano rodzaj pokrywy glebowej, sposób użytkowania ziemi, spadki terenu, intensywność opadów atmosferycznych oraz obliczono wartość erozji wodnej. W tym celu w okresie 2013–2015 mierzono zawartości zawiesiny ogólnej, a także (w latach 2014–2015) przepływów w wodzie potoku Ścieklec. Przedstawiono związek pomiędzy przepływem a wartością miesięcznych ładunków zawiesiny ogólnej. W okresie wegetacji 2014 r. suma ładunku zawiesiny ogólnej wynosiła 10,26 Mg·km^-2, natomiast w 2015 r. była o ponad połowę mniejsza i wynosiła 6,15 Mg·km^-2. W wodzie rozpatrywanego potoku podczas większych przepływów notowano wyraźne zwiększenie zawartości zawiesiny ogólnej. W pracy obliczono również masę erodowanego materiału glebowego metodą USLE wg Wischmeiera i Smitha. Zgodnie z uzyskanym wynikiem badań teren zlewni Ścieklca jest zagrożony erozją stopnia II – erozja słaba, a niektóre rejony z uprawą kukurydzy erozją stopnia III – erozja umiarkowana (wg klasyfikacji Zachara).
The research aimed to determine the content of eroded soil material in form of suspended solids in water samples obtained within Ścieklec Stream which is the left tributary of Szreniawa River (Małopolska Voivodeship). The research was undertaken in order to determine the size of water erosion. During the analysis the following were registered: soil cover, type of land use, terrain configuration and intensity of precipitation. The results are based on analysis of samples taken through the years 2013–2015 as well as monitoring the water flow of the Ścieklec Stream for the years 2014– 2015. The results showed correlation between monthly flow rate of water and the load of suspended solids. The total load in the water was 10.26 Mg•km^-2 in 2014 during growing season and 6.15 Mg•km^-2 in 2015. The portion of the sediment was found to be increased significantly during more intense flows of the Ścieklec Stream. Analysis of water samples also included the mass of transported loose soil material using Wischmeier and Smith's USLE model. According to Zachar’s classification, the obtained results classify the area of the Ścieklec Stream basin to the second degree erosion (weak) which means a very slight reduction in soil depth due to a down slope transport of soil particles. Some regions with corn cultivation are classified to the moderate (the third) erosion degree.

W prezentowanej pracy w 1999 roku badano wielkość spływów powierzchniowych i intensywność procesów erozyjnych w czterech zlewniach lessowych z okresowym przepływem wody. Powierzchnia badanych zlewni wynosi od 1,70 do 6,22 km2, przy czym ich zalesienie kształtuje się od 0,8 do 86 %. Średnie wielkości odpływu wody, soli i zawiesin oraz intensywność procesów erozyjnych przedstawiono w Tabeli 4.
The course of thawing runoff and intensity of erosion processes in four loess basins with periodical water flow in 1999 were presented in a paper.Analyzed basins different with the size (from 1,70 to 6,22 km 2)and performance (afforestation from 0,8 to 86%). Amounts of water runoff , the soil suspension and dissolved salts ass well as intensity of erosion processes were presented in the table 4.

Opis:

W prezentowanej pracy poddano ocenie przeciwerozyjną skuteczność zadarnienia dna doliny lessowej z okresowym odpływem wody i gleby. W tym celu wykonano pomiary niwelacyjne i porównawcze badania glebowe. Na badanym odcinku dna doliny o długości 350 m i średniej szerokości 30,2 m osadziło się średnio 11,4 cm namywu. Wskutek tego nastąpiło podniesienie lokalnej podstawy erozyjnej i spłaszczenie linii ciekowej. Z uzyskanych wyników wynika, że zadarnienie dna doliny przyczyniło się do częściowego zahamowania procesów erozyjnych. Znajduje to także potwierdzenie w pozytywnych zmianach właściwości chemicznych gleby.
The presented study deals with the assessment of the anti-erosion effectiveness of sod formation of the bottom of the loess valley with a periodic run-off of water and soil.leveling measurements and comparative soil tests were carried out to this end. On the average, 11,4 cm of silt deposited on the studied section of the valley bottom (350 m long and 30,2 m wide) .This resulted in a raising of the local erosion basis and a flattering of the water race line. From the results of the study that the sod formation of the valley bottom contributed to a partial reduction of erosion processes. This is confirmed by positive changes of soil schemical properties.

The Agricultural Payments Agency (supervisory and registry authority) of the Slovak Republic has announced an erosion hazard layer to meet the requirements of GAEC5 (Minimising soil erosion. Limit soil erosion by putting in place suitable practical measures). If a farmer fails to observe the layer data, they will be fined and might lose access to direct subsidies (also known as direct payments). The layer that has been announced raises a number of questions and concerns amongst beneficiaries of direct subsidies and users of land parcels. For instance, with the Pastuchov land parcel, the uncertainties associated with the application of GAEC5 were raised. A comparison of the water erosion layer commitment for 2023 with the erosion calculated by the Universal Soil Loss Equation (USLE) method based on the Digital Relief Model (DRM) generated from airborne laser scanning has confirmed the uniformity in all classified categories of water erosion over a 65% land parcel area. The situation of the land user has been diminished (i.e. they have to comply with GAEC5 even when there is no reason to) over 11% of the area. The situation of the land user has improved over 24% of the area (i.e. they do not have to comply with the conditions even when there is reason to). This paper describes the problems and outlines the possibilities for the necessary adjustment of compliance with the GAEC5 conditions in Slovakia.

This paper presents the results of the quantification of water erosion rate in the rolling old-glacial area of the Narew River valley-sides using the Universal Soil Loss Equation (USLE). The soil loss estimated using USLE for 7 study sites ranged from about 1 to 5 Mg ha⁻¹ yr⁻¹. These differences are the result of varied slope steepness ranging from 1.8% to 7.5% and the average slope length ranging from 172 m to 480, as well as varied soil texture. The impact of various crop rotations on the erosion rate was also studied. The results revealed that crop rotations with corn and potatoes caused higher rates of erosion. On the most gentle slope, the annual soil erosion increased by 0.5 Mg ha⁻¹ yr⁻¹, while on the steepest slope the soil erosion rate increased by 2 Mg ha⁻¹ yr⁻¹.1

Opis:

This study analyses tests influencing the selection of nonwovens for water absorbing geocomposites. The task of the nonwoven is to capture water infiltrating into the soil and to direct it to the superabsorbent located inside. The best results in the tests of water permeability (88 mm/s) and water absorption (1116.85 g/m2) were obtained for nonwoven of the lowest surface weight - 112.8 g/m2 and the largest average pore diameter - 206.5 μm. The lowest water absorption capacity (478.91 g/m2) and the smallest thickness changes under a load (19.3%) was noted in needle-punched nonwoven that had been subject to the calandering process. For one nonwoven, the presence of other significant fractions was noted, which proves that it is heterogeneous. For nonwovens applied in the unsaturated zone, not only water permeability should be taken into account, but also the size and fraction distribution of pores, in order to avoid breaking the continuity of capillaries.
W pracy przedstawiono badania właściwości włóknin, jako osłon do geokompozytów sorbujących wodę. Zadaniem włókniny jest przechwycenie filtrującej wody i przekazanie do znajdującego się wewnątrz superabsorbentu. Najlepsze wyniki w badaniu wodoprzepuszczalności (88 mm/s) i wodochłonności (1116.85 g/m2) uzyskano dla włókniny o najniższej masie powierzchniowej 112.8 g/m2 i największej średniej średnicy porów 206.5 μm. Włókninę 100% PET kalandrowaną cechowała niska wodochłonność (478.91 g/m2) i niewielkie zmiany grubości pod obciążeniem (19.3 %). Dla jednej z włóknin zanotowano obecność innych istotnych frakcji co świadczy o jej niejednorodności. W przypadku zastosowania włókniny w strefie aeracji należy zwracać uwagę nie tylko na wodoprzepuszczalność, ale i rozmiary oraz rozkład frakcyjny porów, aby nie przerwać ciągłości kapilar.

Opis:

Mulches have extraordinary potential in reducing surface runoff, increasing infiltration of water into the soil and decreasing soil erosion. The straw mulches as a biological material, has the ability to be a significant physical barrier against the impact of raindrops and reduce the detachment of soil aggregates. The present study is an attempt to determine the efficiency of straw mulch as conservation treatment in changes in the splash erosion, time-to-runoff, runoff coefficient, infiltration coefficient, time-to-drainage, drainage coefficient, sediment concentration and soil loss. The laboratory experiments have been conducted for sandy-loam soil taken from deforested area, about 15 km of Warsaw west, Poland under lab conditions with simulated rainfall intensities of 60 and 120 mm·h^–1, in 4 soil moistures of 12, 25, 33 and 40% and the slope of 9%. Compared with bare treatments, results of straw mulch application showed the significant conservation effects on splash erosion, runoff coefficient, sediment concentration and soil loss and significant enhancement effects on infiltration and drainage. The results of Spearman-Rho correlation showed the significant (p ≤ 0.05) correlation with r = –0.873, 0.873, 0.878 and 0.764 between rainfall intensity and drainage coefficient, downstream splash, sediment concentration and soil loss and with r = –0.976, 0.927 and –0.927 between initial soil moisture content and time-to-runoff, runoff coefficient and infiltration coefficient, respectively.
Ściółka ze słomy może znacząco zmniejszać spływ powierzchniowy, powodując zwiększenie wsiąkania wody oraz zmniejszając erozję gleby. Ściółka jako materiał organiczny jest barierą redukującą także energię kinetyczną kropel deszczu, zmniejszając odspojenie i ograniczając transport agregatów glebowych. W prezentowanych badaniach podjęto próbę określenia wpływu ściółki ze słomy, jako środka ochronnego, na erozją rozbryzgową, czas do wystąpienia spływu, współczynnik spływu, koncentrację rumowiska i ilość zmywanej gleby. Doświadczenia laboratoryjne przeprowadzono w odniesieniu do piaszczystej gliny, pobranej z miejsca wylesionego, około 15 km na zachód od Warszawy, w symulowanych warunkach natężenia deszczu wynoszącego 60 i 120 mm·h^–1, wilgotności początkowej gleby 12, 25, 33 i 40% oraz spadku powierzchni 9%. Porównując te wyniki z wynikami doświadczenia przeprowadzonego w tych samych warunkach z glebą pozbawioną ściółki, wykazano znaczący wpływ redukujący w odniesieniu do erozji rozbryzgowej, współczynnika odpływu, koncentracji rumowiska i ilości zmywanej gleby oraz znaczący wpływ zwiększający wsiąkanie i odpływ podpowierzchniowy.

Opis:

Máchovo Lake is a historical reservoir founded by Czech King Charles IV. in 14th century. Located in northern part of central Bohemia it has been widely used for recreation purposes for many decades (or even centuries). Its catchments (ca 100 sq km) consist of intensively used agricultural land (ca 25% of area) and of large forested area under nature protection. Several other lakes (ponds) are chained on the two reservoir’s inlets. Irrespective of its great recreation potential Máchovo Lake is one of the Bohemian lakes known for its problems with eutrophication and water quality. The project was set up to point out sources of nutrients and to search for proper solutions. Sediment loads in every lake within the catchments were measured and sampled in order to quantify the nutrients and other pollution. Point and non point sources of phosphorus and other nutrients were searched. Sediment transport within catchments was modelled using WaTEM/SEDEM model. Interestingly, the water quality in the particular ponds varies signifi cantly even though each one of several hundred years old ponds is heavily silted. Soil erosion protection measures within catchments were proposed altogether with flood protection measures in the stream valleys and waste water treatment facilities in surrounding villages. Setting up water quality sampling devices in selected stream profi les was tested and designed. The continual proper management should lead to water quality improvement.
Położone w północnych Czechach Jezioro Máchovo jest zbiornikiem dla celów rekreacyjnych zbudowanym w XIV wieku przez czeskiego króla Karola IV. Jego zlewnia o powierzchni 100 km2 jest w 25% intensywnie użytkowana rolniczo, a pozostały zalesiony obszar podlega ochronie. Jakość wody i eutrofizacja wód jeziora oraz towarzyszących mu silnie zamulonych stawów stanowi poważny problem ekologiczny. Celem badań było określenie punktowych i powierzchniowych źródeł dostawy składników pokarmowych i rozwiązanie tego problemu. Do oceny dostawy sedymentu zastosowano WaTEM/SEDEM model. Została zaproponowana przeciwpowodziowa i przeciwerozyjna ochrona gleby przed erozją oraz gospodarka ściekami w obrębie zlewni. Działania te powinny doprowadzić do polepszenia jakości wody.

W pracy przedstawiono wyniki 2-letnich badań jakości wód powierzchniowych rzeki Ciemięgi, przepływającej przez urzeźbione rolnicze tereny lessowe Wyżyny Lubelskiej. Stwierdzono, że jakość wód w okresie badań nie była zagrożona procesami erozyjnymi wpływającymi na ich skład chemiczny. Skład chemiczny tych wód był wynikiem głównie procesów geochemicznych
Two years`investigations of water quality of Ciemiegga river situated in eroded loess region fully agriculturally used were conducted in 1996 and 1997. It was found that chemical composition of river water was not affected by erosion processes, except of phosphorus compounds. It was only under the geochemical processes.

Opis:

Trwałe użytki zielone są źródłem naturalnych, wartościowych pasz wpływających na jakość środków żywienia ludzi. Pełnią również ważne funkcje w ochronie środowiska i kształtowaniu krajobrazu. Tymczasem poziom ich wykorzystania i gospodarowania na nich w ostatnich kilkunastu latach bardzo obniżył się. Następstwem tego są straty ekonomiczne i środowiskowe. Następuje degradacja runi i gleb (zwłaszcza organicznych), zmniejsza się znaczenie ich funkcji ochronnych, m.in. w stosunku do wód gruntowych i powierzchniowych. Wpływają na to zaniedbania gospodarki wodnej na tych użytkach i przede wszystkim zbyt mała obsada zwierzętami trawożernymi, głównie bydłem i owcami. Możliwe sposoby poprawy ich wykorzystania to odtworzenie pogłowia zwierząt przeżuwających. Po ustanowieniu limitowanych kwot mlecznych dobrym, perspektywicznym kierunkiem wydaje się być chów bydła mięsnego i owiec, szczególnie cennych w kształtowaniu krajobrazu.
Permanent grasslands are a source of natural, valuable fodder for the livestock, affecting consequently the quality of foodstuffs for human nutrition. They fulfil also some important functions in environment protection and landscape creation. However, the level of their management and utilization decreased within last several years. That results in economic and environmental losses. There occure the degradation of sward and soils (organic soils in particular), and decrease of their of their important protective functions, especially in relation to the ground and surface waters. Such a situation is affected by negligences in water management on the grassland areas and - first of all - by too low ruminant livestock density, mainly the cattle and sheep. Possible methods of improving their utilization consist in the reconstruction of ruminant livestock density. After establishing limited milk quotas, raising of the beef cattle as well as the sheep, seems to be particularly prospective and valuable because of their role in landscape shaping.

Opis:

Water erosion under sugar beet and spring wheat was studied in runoff-plot experiment on loess slope. Canopy cover factor (C) of the USLE was used to evaluate a protective function of crops. The factor was determined directly as a ratio of soil loss from standard plots of length of 22.1 m, with crops and fallow. Results showed that C factor for sugar beet was 0.96, and for wheat - 0.04. Such high C value for sugar beet was the effect of heavy rainstorm at the plant emergence, when small canopy cover did not allow to limit the erosion. Studies carried with a system of plots of different length pointed that the effective distance of sediment transport ranged from 3.9 to 13.2 m for sugar beet, and from 2.6 to 4.5 m for spring wheat. Results of the studies showed that during processes of surface (interrill) erosion, transport of soil material prevails on short distances, whereas deposition took place inside the longer plots.

W pracy przedstawiono analizę struktury użytkowania gruntów i użytków rolnych zlewni rzeki Szreniawa w latach 1995-2005. Badany obszar podzielono na pięć zlewni cząstkowych. Obliczono wskaźniki: darniowo-leśny - określający stopień trwałego pokrycia obszaru zlewni roślinnością oraz użytków zielonych - określający relacje między użytkami zielonymi a rolnymi. Wykazano, że struktura użytkowania terenu na obszarze zlewni Szreniawy jest niekorzystna ze względu na ochronę gleby i środowiska wodnego. Cała powierzchnia omawianego obszaru była tylko w około 10% pokryta trwale roślinnością leśną i darniową, a grunty orne stanowiły aż 91,3% użytków rolnych. Przeobrażenia strukturalne w ciągu okresu badań były niekorzystne i polegały na zwiększeniu powierzchni gruntów ornych. W tym rejonie, o wysokim stopniu zagrożenia erozją wodną, konieczne jest podjęcie działań mających na celu wprowadzanie programów rolnośrodowiskowych w zakresie ochrony gleby i wody.
In the paper an analysis of land use pattern and agricultural land structure in the catchment area of the Szreniawa River was presented for the years 1995–2005. Studied area was divided into five partial catchment areas. The indices such as: the grass turf - forest index which determines the degree of permanent vegetation cover in the catchment and the grassland index, which describes the relations between grasslands and agricultural lands (AL) were estimated. It was shown that the catchment area of the Szreniawa River was characterised by unfavourable land use pattern in view of soil and water protection. The whole study area was permanently covered by woody and grass-turf vegetation in only 10% and arable lands constituted as much as 91.3% of agricultural lands. Structural changes during the study period were disadvantageous and consisted in an increase of the area of arable lands. In this region seriously threatened by soil erosion it is necessary to undertake the activities aimed at implementing agro-environmental programmes in soil and water protection.
