Opis:

Negative political advertising and its effectiveness has always been the concern of not only political scientists, but also sociologists and marketing experts. This specific form of advertising is also increasingly used in the Czech political environment. The author focused on the answers to such questions as: what are the effects of this form of political advertising from the perspective of persuasive linear models, which are actually based on cognition, emotion and conative/voting behavior. Based both on international research carried out in this area and facts from Czech republic, he notes that voters perceive this form of advertising as one that offers them more information, attracts a greater degree of attention and more trust than in the case of positive advertising. Taking into account emotional effects, this form of political advertising is often followed by disgust, fear and other negative reactions. These are, however, strong incentives that subsequently bring some negative effects in voter`s conative/behavioral activities. These include in particular the reluctance to vote, negative public sentiment and escalating political cynicism. In the evaluation of the effectiveness of negative political campaigns what should also be taken into account is their cultural environment. What could be effective in the US may not be very effective in countries with different cultural values shaped their historical development and by existing cultural dimensions of these countries.

Il contributo costituisce un tentativo di individuare le maggiori differenze nell’ambito della categoria semantica delle emozioni di rabbia, aggressività, paura, tristezza e umiltà espresse nei fraseologismi somatici della lingua italiana e polacca. Oltre alle considerazioni teoriche, nel presente studio si intende stabilire quali espressioni idiomatiche, contenenti termini che indicano parti del corpo umano, vengono usate per verbalizzare determinati stati emotivi. Nelle osservazioni si analizzano le pagine dei dizionari fraseologici, pratici, quelli delle collocazioni e generali grazie ai quali si evidenziano le differenze anzitutto nell’ambito della concettualizzazione metaforica delle emozioni studiate. Le divergenze osservate tra i fraseologismi somatici italiani e polacchi concernono prima di tutto il dominio origine adoperato per capire e trasmettere emozioni che spesso risultano intangibili, sfuggevoli e difficili da capire.
The contribution is an attempt to capture the major differences within the semantic category of emotions: anger, aggression, fear, sadness and submission, expressed in the somatic phraseologisms of the Italian and Polish languages. In addition to the theoretical considerations, the aim of the study is to establish which idiomatic expressions containing the names of body parts are used to verbalize certain emotional states. The observations are based on the analysis of the phraseological, practical, collocation and general dictionaries, thanks to which the differences relating primarily to the metaphorical conceptualization of the emotions under study become visible. The divergencies observed between the Italian and Polish somatic phraseologisms concern mainly the source domain that is necessary for a person to be able to understand and convey emotions that are often intangible, elusive and difficult to understand.

A comparison of the AC and BD binding sites of transthyretin (TTR) was made in terms of the interatomic distances between the Cα atoms of equivalent amino acids, measured across the tetramer channel in each binding site. The comparison of the channel diameter for apo TTR from different sources revealed that in the unliganded transthyretin tetramers the distances between the A, D and H β-strands are consistently larger, while the distances between the G β-strands are smaller in one site than in the other. These differences might be described to have a 'wave' character. An analogous analysis performed for transthyretin complexes reveals that the shape of the plot is similar, although the amplitudes of the changes are smaller. The analysis leads us to a model of the changes in the binding sites caused by ligand binding. The sequence of events includes ligand binding in the first site, followed by a slight collapse of this site and concomitant opening of the second site, binding of the second molecule and collapse of the second site. The following opening of the first, already occupied site upon ligand binding in the second site is smaller because of the bridging interactions already formed by the first ligand. This explains the negative cooperativity (NC) effect observed for many ligands in transthyretin.

There is still no agreement as to the way of interpreting negative statements and the ontological status of negative facts or events. Following W. V. Quine (On What There Is), some philosophers claim that world becomes overcrowded. It becomes overcrowded because positive events (or states of affairs) carry on their backs an infinite number of negative phantoms (quasi- entities). For instance, my being here now requires my not being elsewhere. As we know, in his works Quine developed a minimalistic vision of ontology (Quine’s taste for desert landscapes related to Ockham’s razor). On the other hand, every true proposition (positive or negative) corresponds with an event – there must be a negative event. Otherwise we will find it difficult to express what it is that corresponds to a negative statement. This point of view was temporarily presented by B. Russell (Philosophy of Logical Atomism). Gale (On What There Isn’t) examines the arguments for and against negative facts and events. The purpose of this paper is to present Gale’s inquiry into negatives and its ontological consequences. The conclusion of Gale’s investigations is as follows: what exists in the world is positive and the world is fully describable in positive statements. He argues along Kantian lines with British accent: it is meaningful to say that some objects are non-existent but it is meaningless to apply negation to the universe as a whole. While he argues along Kantian lines with British accent, I suggest solution with Polish accent (S. Leśniewski): it is contradictory to say that some objects are nonexistent.

Cechą współczesnych kampanii wyborczych jest coraz większe nasycenie ich elementami negatywnymi. Wielopłaszczyznowość odniesień negatywnych komunikatów sprawia jednak, że ich konsekwencje w rzeczywistości trudno przewidzieć. Mimo tego, zdobywanie i wykorzystywanie w różnym zakresie informacji w jakikolwiek sposób obciążających przeciwników politycznych jest powszechne we współczesnych kampaniach wyborczych. W tym kontekście interesujące wydają się obszary, w jakich kampania negatywna mieści zakres swoich działań i jednocześnie ich granice, których przekroczenie może uzasadniać zmianę ostatecznych konsekwencji podjętych przez nadawcę praktyk. Niniejszy artykuł prezentuje analizę fundamentalnych kontekstów działań podejmowanych w ramach procesów kreacji negatywnego wizerunku podmiotu politycznego oraz próbę nakreślenia granic tych obszarów. Wśród najważniejszych odniesień autorka podejmuje wymiary: psychologiczny, aksjologiczny, komunikacyjny oraz normatywny
Modern election campaigns tend to be increasingly saturated with negative elements. Yet, the multi-dimensional nature of negative references in messages makes their real-life consequences very difficult to predict. Despite this fact, the acquisition and use – in various manners - of information in any way incriminating the political opponents is commonplace in modern election campaigns. In this context, the issues of activities that the negative campaign encompasses as well as boundaries in which the negative campaign fits in - the crossing of which may result in changing the outcomes assumed or planned by the sender of the messages – seem of particular interest. This article presents an analysis of the fundamental contexts of activities undertaken in the process of creating a negative image of a political entity or actor, and attempts to identify the boundaries of these areas. Among the most important analytical contexts, the author discusses the psychological, axiological, as well as normative and communication dimensions.

In Old English, negative adjectives, i.e. incorporating the negative prefix -un, are said to generally come in postposition to nouns (e.g. Fischer, 2001; Sampson, 2010). This paper investigates to what extent this general rule is followed in Aelfric’s Catholic Homilies, the texts of this author being a typical choice for the study of Old English syntax (cf. Davis 2006; Reszkiewcz, 1966; Kohonen, 1978). The data have been obtained from the York-Toronto-Helsinki Parsed Corpus of Old English Prose (YCOE). The following research questions have been formulated: Do strong negative adjectives outnumber nonnegated adjectives in postposition? Do strong negative adjectives have a tendency to appear in postposition? Do strong negated adjectives occur in preposition? The results indicated that for the sample analyzed, strong adjectives in postposition are not predominantly negated. Additionally, the postposition of most of those which are may potentially be explained by other factors, such as modification by a prepositional phrase, co-occurrence with a weak preposed adjective (both mentioned by Fischer), or indirect Latin influence in a formulaic phrase. Also, the data does not appear to support the observation that negated adjectives tend to appear in post- rather than preposition.

The energy and temperature of the negaons are negative.

In this paper we analyze the possibility to use the reflex discharge plasma as a volume source of negative hydrogen ions. The basic internal parameters like the temperature Te and the density ne of the electrons, the density ni of the positive hydrogen ions, the density n- of the negative hydrogen ions, and the negative ion fraction n-/ne are measured and discussed. The operating conditions are optimized within the pressure range 0.1-10 Pa, the discharge power 20-140 watt, and the magnetic field 0-150 gauss. The experiment shows that the enhanced magnetic ionization is the most effective within the pressure range from 0.7 to 4.0 Pa. When p ť 1 Pa the cold electron temperature Te is 0.77 eV, the cold electron density ne is 4.2 ´ 10 18 m-3 and the negative ion density n- is as high as 0.8 x 10 17 m-3. The negative ion fraction n-/ne increases from 1.4% for p = 0.1 Pa to almost 2.2% within the pressure range 1-4 Pa. The positive ion density scales with the power, while the negative ion density and the negative ion fraction seems to saturate at higher power levels.

Temperamental traits and empathy are both associated with emotional regulation; they thus shape both the quality of an individual’s life and the functioning of his or her social relationships. However, the mediating effects of emotional empathy in the relationship between temperamental characteristics and relationship satisfaction have not been closely analyzed and therefore require further study. This study examined the effects of temperamental arousability – global negative arousability and its components (fear, sadness, discomfort, frustration) – on emotional empathy and, consequently, on relationship satisfaction. One hundred and fifty young adults (104 women, 46 men) aged 20 to 35 participated in the study. The participants had been in romantic relationships for at least six months. The study used a sociodemographic survey and a set of questionnaires which included the Adult Temperament Questionnaire – Short Form, the Empathic Sensitiveness Scale and the RELAT Questionnaire. The results showed that empathic concern fully mediated the relationship between global negative arousability and relationship satisfaction. Furthermore, the effects of fear and sadness on relationship satisfaction were fully mediated by empathic concern and personal distress. Additionally, personal distress fully mediated the relationship between discomfort and relationship satisfaction. Neither empathic concern nor personal distress were mediators in the relationship between frustration and relationship satisfaction. It can therefore be concluded that although partners who exhibit higher global negative arousability report lower relationship satisfaction, they might become more satisfied when being more compassionate and caring towards others.

Aim. The aim of this study is to provide a selected theoretical-methodological analysis of the concept of negative freedom in relation to the political sphere of its application, to reveal and clarify the main political implications and normative claims that its recognition implies for political theory. Concept. From a methodological point of view, the study is based on three justified assumptions: (1) that in modern political philosophy the idea of individual freedom is the main normative basis for political theories, (2) that philosophical development has brought several competing concepts of this idea and (3) that from its own content the concept implies basic requirements for its social and political application. For the purposes of theoretical-methodological analysis, we distinguished two different moments in the concept of individual freedom (freedom as a question of will and freedom as a question of practice) and from their point of view we examined the selected concept of negative freedom in an attempt to reveal its implicit claims at the political level. Results. In the article, we have succeeded in formulating and arguing for the thesis that the concept of negative freedom in its applicability programmatically leads to a modus vivendi model of politics. We have shown that the concept of freedom and the model of politics are interrelated and normatively interdependent. Conclusion. The main conclusion of the study is that the above model of politics cannot be generalised and considered equally acceptable for all conceptions of freedom and the good life.

The present study aimed to test how common workaholism is and which groups are most targeted in the workplace among Jordanian employees. Additionally, the roles of positive and negative perfectionism in workaholism were investigated. The sample consisted of 686 employees. All of them completed the study instruments. The results showed that the mean of workaholism was around the mean of the cut -off. Additionally, multivariate tests showed that the results of post hoc differences for positive perfectionism were in favor of males, subordinates, those with a bachelor’s degree, those with less than 5 years of experience, and those aged less than 30 years. Furthermore, the differences for negative perfectionism were in favor of those with a bachelor’s degree and subordinates. For workaholism, the differences were in favor of subordinates, public sector employees, married persons, and those with a diploma degree. Finally, the results of hierarchical regression analysis found that positive and negative perfectionism and some demographic variables predicted 12.9% of the variability in workaholism, and the typical hierarchical regression model included positive and negative perfectionism without other demographic variables.

Background: The concept of negative transgression describes behavior as crossing personal limits in destruction against oneself or other people. Theoretically, personality dimensions have been distinguished that may trigger or weaken negative transgression, e.g. empathy and anxiety. Aims: The goal of this study was to empirically verify the relationship between negative transgression and empathy and fear in the perpetrators of violence against close relatives. Our hypothesis was that negative transgression would be associated with poor empathy, but with a high level of anxiety. Methods: The examined persons from the group of male prisoners (N = 50) were recruited in one of the prisons in Poland. The participants were convicted of domestic violence – or intimate partner violence. Their age ranged from 21 to 50 years. Results: The results obtained confirm the hypotheses established, showing that prisoners have an increased level of negative transgression and anxiety, and a decreased level of empathy. Conclusions: This first study shows that more research is needed on negative transgression with different personality dimensions. Also in the process of reclamation of prisoners, it is worth developing empathy and dealing with anxiety. Then the number of negative behaviors in close relationships will decrease.

Opis:

A total of 104 coagulase negative staphylococci, belonging to S. capitis, S. hominis, S. haemolyticus and S. warneri, originating from the collection of the Department of Pharmaceutical Microbiology (ZMF), Medical University of Lodz, Poland, were tested for their synergistic hemolytic activity. 83% of strains produced δ-hemolysin, however, the percentage of positive strains of S. haemolyticus, S. warneri, S. capitis and S. hominis was different - 98%, 78%, 75% and 68%, respectively. Highly pure hemolysins were obtained from culture supernatants by protein precipitation with ammonium sulphate (0-70% of saturation) and extraction by using a mixture of organic solvents. The purity and molecular mass of hemolysins was determined by TRIS/Tricine PAGE. All CoNS hemolysins were small peptides with a molar mass of about 3.5 kDa; they possessed cytotoxic activity against the line of human foreskin fibroblasts ATCC Hs27 and lysed red cells from different mammalian species, however, the highest activity was observed when guinea pig, dog and human red blood cells were used. The cytotoxic effect on fibroblasts occurred within 30 minutes. The S. cohnii ssp. urealyticus strain was used as a control. The antimicrobial activity was examined using hemolysins of S. capitis, S. hominis, S. cohnii ssp. cohnii and S. cohnii ssp. urealyticus. Hemolysins of the two S. cohnii subspecies did not demonstrate antimicrobial activity. Cytolysins of S. capitis and S. hominis had a very narrow spectrum of action; out of 37 examined strains, the growth of only Micrococcus luteus, Corynebacterium diphtheriae and Pasteurella multocida was inhibited.

Theoretical background: Due to the growing maturity of Chinese market the country needs to adjust its policy regarding foreign direct investment (FDI), i.e. to increase openness for FDI, to keep control over them in key industries and to influence their inflow in desired industries and regions. Adopting the negative-list approach and changes in both the negative list and encouraged industry catalogue provides tools for this challenge.Purpose of the article: The purpose of this article is to present how changes in China’s Foreign Investment Encouraged Catalogue and Negative Lists both in free-trade zones (FTZs) and at the national level are used as a tool for managing country’s FDI inflow.Research methods: Analysis of legal documents and reports as well as literature review.Main findings: Starting from the adoption of negative-list approach in FTZs in 2013, the negative lists had been drastically reduced both in reference to FTZs and national level. Those reductions lead to a decrease in China FDI restrictiveness index. FTZs were used as a testing area for both the negative list composition and negative-list approach itself. Negative lists allowed the state to keep control over FDI in key industries allowing, at the same time, greater freedom for foreign investors. Encouraged catalogue is used not only as a tool for attracting FDI from desired industries but also for addressing regional inequalities.

Research background: Endeavouring to develop healthy societies is a primary goal in many countries. As smoking is a major problem of public health, lowering the extent of smoking is one of the conditions for developing a healthy society. Based on the research revealing that the pairing of the product with negative stimuli enhances the possibility of negative reaction to the product as negative stimulus transfers it’s meaning to the product, tobacco packaging was labelled with negative smoking-related pictures illustrating the danger of smoking. Nevertheless, the extent of smoking is still large in many countries. Hence, the effect of negative smoking-related pictures has been the subject of intense debate within the scientific community. Purpose of the article: The aim of this research is to determine the effect of negative smoking-related pictures on the both implicit and explicit attitude toward smoking. Methods: For the purpose of determining the effect of negative smoking-related pictures on the both implicit and explicit attitude toward smoking, Implicit Association Test and questionnaire survey were provided. The questionnaire was elaborated based on the analysis and synthesis of scientific literature. Findings & Value added: The theoretical analysis substantiated the influence of attitude toward the product on consumer purchase decisions. Nevertheless, people do not always want to reveal their opinion, hence traditional marketing research methods for measuring explicit attitude are not sufficient as they are often not objective. Therefore, neuromarketing research methods complement traditional marketing research methods by providing more objectivity. Consequently, the Implicit Association Test and traditional questionnaire research are applied for the empirical research, revealing the effect of negative smoking-related pictures on the both implicit and explicit attitude toward smoking. The recommendations for the usage of negative smoking-related pictures on purpose to influence attitude toward smoking and consumer purchase behaviour are substantiated.

Until recently, negative nominal interest rates of the central bank were in the sphere of theoretical considerations. In 2009, the Swedish Central Bank was the first to implement a negative interest rate policy (NIRP). Since then, the NIRP has been implemented by the National Bank of Denmark, the European Central Bank, the Swiss National Bank and the National Bank of Japan. Unfortunately, due to the large number of simultaneous factors affecting the economy, it is extremely difficult to determine the long-term effects of NIRP implementation. Furthermore, the magnitude of the impact and the global extent of the coronavirus pandemic would have a significant impact on the dilatation, so the focus was on pre-pandemic issues. This paper is a literature review and it aims to synthetize information about the impact of negative interest rates on the market – in financial and real spheres. In this paper, both the results of scientific research and the opinions of experts were used, then the impact of negative nominal interest rates on the financial and real sectors was assessed. The results show that most authors highlight an adverse impact of negative interest rates on the stability of the banking sector regardless of the country. The greatest fear of the NIRP implementation by central banks is that the potential behavior of economic entities cannot be predicted with certainty, especially when it comes to cash deposit withdrawals from banks.

Through the history Bosnia and Herzegovina, as a territory and as a country, has been very unstable and full of ethnical diversity; nowadays not much has changed. It is a new century, there is a new political ideology and new structures; however, the protagonists still have different ethnical backgrounds. Changing the ideology in the area of the Balkans was very difficult and followed by dispute between the people and by a bloody war. To whom the territory belongs, who was first there, and who has more right to claim that territory – these are the main questions with which nationalists and politicians rule over the whole populations. This contribution is focusing on the process of conflict transformation from violence and total war into the reduction of violence. Bosnia and Herzegovina formally applied for EU membership on 15 February 2016, following years of constitutional reforms and commitments with the Dayton Peace Agreement.

The article contains an idea of building a cost accounting system for contemporary negative phenomena of natural and anthropogenic disasters, including ecological ones. These phenomena are treated as "black swans", that is, phenomena with a high level of threat and wide, diverse, mainly negative effects. The authors presented selected methodological suggestions for including different types of effects of such phenomena in the system of records and their monetary valorization (i.e. cost recognition). The article is intended as an introduction to further in-depth discussion of these challenges. Considering the emerging problems (phenomena and processes), they belong to the most important issues for economics, ecological economics and environmental economics. However, they are not very often addressed in the literature.
Artykuł zawiera pomysł zbudowania systemu rachunków kosztów dla współczesnych negatywnych zjawisk o charakterze katastrof naturalnych oraz antropogennych, w tym ekologicznych. Zjawiska te traktowane są jako „czarne łabędzie”, a zatem zjawiska o wysokim poziomie zagrożenia i szerokich, różnorodnych, głównie negatywnych skutkach. Autorzy przedstawili wybrane metodyczne sugestie dotyczące włączenia do systemu ewidencji różnych rodzajów skutków takich zjawisk i ich pieniężnej waloryzacji (czyli ujęcia kosztowego). Artykuł ma charakter wprowadzenia do dalszej, pogłębionej dyskusji nad tymi wyzwaniami. Biorąc pod uwagę pojawiające się problemy (zjawiska i procesy) należą one do najważniejszych zagadnień dla ekonomii, ekonomii ekologicznej i eko-nomii środowiskowej. Nie są jednak zbyt często podejmowane w literaturze.

Opis:

The paper provides an analysis of the impact of negative emotions on decision-making processes. It questions the common-sense view that negative emotions diminish rationality of decisions, i.e., increase the probability of making suboptimal choices. It is argued in the paper that this view is untenable on the grounds of neuroscience, cognitive science and evolutionary theory: the results provided by these sciences support the view that negative emotions in most instances of their occurrence, i.e. types of negative emotions, not only fail to undermine rationality of decision-making but substantially contribute to it. This does mean saying that token-negative emotions never undermine rationality of decision-making. But, as is argued in the paper, the fact that token-negative emotions may have sometimes this kind of negative effect is fully consistent with the claim that, as a rule, the effect is positive, so that one can speak about the causal connection between types of negative emotion and rational decision-making.

The paper focuses on the dynamics of online exchanges in English and Polish posts related to the Greek political and economic crisis in 2015 and European Union membership. It introduces and defines the concepts of emotion and conflict, and discusses quantitative and qualitative methods and tools used to analyse corpus materials of Polish and English online communication, primarily in terms of the Interconnectivity Index and emotion valence as perceived by the users as well as the degree of their emotional arousal. The data reveal significant differences in the conflict dynamics profiles between the two groups of commentators, more interactional, and interactant face-saving discourse strategies in English, manifested by means of self-mockery and jocular style, significantly less frequent resort to verbal abuse and vulgar language on the one hand, and a more aggressive, confrontative and mutually hostile attitude, with instances of verbal abuse types recorded in the Polish data. An attempt to interpret the results in terms of cultural dimensions and characteristics concludes the paper.

Opis:

Negative bias temperature instability is regarded as one of the most important reliability concerns of highly scaled PMOS transistors. As a consequence of the continuous downscaling of semiconductor devices this issue has become even more important over the last couple of years due to the high electric fields in the oxide and the routine incorporation of nitrogen. During negative bias temperature stress a shift in important parameters of PMOS transistors, such as the threshold voltage, subthreshold slope, and mobility is observed. Modeling efforts date back to the reaction-diffusion model proposed by Jeppson and Svensson thirty years ago which has been continuously refined since then. Although the reaction-diffusion model is able to explain many experimentally observed characteristics, some microscopic details are still not well understood. Recently, various alternative explanations have been put forward, some of them extending, some of them contradicting the standard reaction-diffusion model. We review these explanations with a special focus on modeling issues.

Thus, numerous studies have been conducted to determine its characteristics, among which research on such processes as, for example, simplification, added prominence or redundancy underlying language use in the ELF context is of the main interest. Therefore, the paper aims to broaden the per- spective on redundancy in ELF, focusing on negative and modal concord in spoken and written data. With the reliance on VOICE, ELFA, and WrELFA corpora, the analysis shows that both phenomena are noticeable in ELF; however, while redundancy in terms of modal concord appears in spoken and written ELF, negative concord is characteristic only of spoken data.

In our article we will try to answer the following questions: how do the teachers in the pedagogical centres and the primary schools cope with the negative emotions? What kind of techniques and strategies do the teachers use to manage their emotions in difficult situations? The theoretical background constitutes Arlie Hochschild’s theory and conception of Theodore D. Kemper. We consider whether teachers’ demonstration of emotions during their work (teaching process) is a method to achieve a fixed goal or rather a random behavior and whether an emotional expression is some instrumental operation or an accidental one? Can emotional work be considered by teachers? Do people who embody in the teacher’s role simultaneously accept the rules of behavior, including emotional behavior? Finally, whether the emotions revealed in the teachers’ work are the result of possessed power and status? As the result of conducted research, teachers employed in educational institutions revealed negative emotions more rarely towards educational reforms than the teachers working in the public schools. The basis of this regularity stems from the fact that employed staff fulfill firstly the pedagogical and later educational function in the Reformatory and Youth Detention Centres. In public institutions such as primary schools the situation is opposite. Generally, we conclude that the longer the occupational experience of the teacher, the better strategy to deal with negative emotions. Young teachers used to rely on their older colleagues experience and reflections or use a trial-and-error-method to cope with the negative emotions at work.

What will the future of the church look like? What type of mission should the church commit herself to? Rather than elaborating one more answer to these important questions, I have pleaded for negative ecclesiology and ‘the grace of self-doubt’. This is not to replace the answers that are given, but to safeguard sufficient openness in these answers. By abstaining from certitude, the church may more easily hear what the Spirit is saying to the churches beyond our own, human and therefore narrow minded understandings. My brief discussions on the Trinity, Ignatian spiritual direction and synodality were meant to illustrate that ‘wise ignorance’ and openness to surprises are present in some other dimensions of the Christian faith and theology and may, therefore, be safely adopted in reflections on the future of the church. A great fruit of negative ecclesiology is that it allows for change, that is, for a new understanding of God and therefore a new understanding of the church. Because the Apostles allowed for uncertainty, they could accept that God’s grace did not require circumcision and Jewish purity regulations – a crucial revolution in the early Christian church. Similarly, during the Second Vatican Council the bishops did not insist on using the same words, and were therefore able to embrace another, more pastoral style of magisterial teaching. In the same way, negative ecclesiology can help the church – its leadership as much as lay faithful – to be open to new perspectives on church and on mission. It may help to confront the painful truth that in the West the omnipresence of the church belongs to a past era and that in the church’s role in society is becoming a marginal one. It may help the faithful and church leadership to embrace the task of bringing the number of church buildings more in line with the church’s current position in society – that is, to abolish a significant number of churches. Finally, it may help to reconceive the church’s prophetic voice into a more dialogical and humble voice, which testifies rather than criticizes, and that is willing to learn as much as to teach.

Electron co-extraction and suppression by a transverse magnetic fields is studied within a two dimensional particle-in-cell numerical model of surface ionisation ion source with beveled extraction opening. A novel approach of data presentation is proposed, based on the fact that dependences of co-extracted current on the filter strength could be approximated by four parameters only, describing e.g. initial electron current value and cut-off B value. In the paper the influence of extraction system geometry is considered – it is shown that the cut-off B value increases with the size of the opening in the extraction electrode, while the inclination of the extraction opening walls does not play any significant role. It is demostrated that the most of electron is eliminated by hiting the extraction electrode walls, however up to 30 % of electrons were lost by encountering the extraction channel walls due to the modification of their trajectories by the filter field. The influence of the magnetic filter field placement is also investigated – the center of the filter field has to be no further than 2 mm form the extraction channel orifice in order to achieve minimal values of the cut-off field (~20 mT). The possibly low extraction voltages are preferable, as the ammount of co-extracted electrons grows rapidly with Vext resulting in e.g. threefold increase of cut-off parameter value when extraction voltage is changed from 1 kV up to 10 kV. Within the considered model the filter field does not have any significant influecne on extracted H- current.

Using a relatively simple semiclassical model, it is shown that transient, induced molecular negative ions (TIMNI), are produced through a potential barrier interaction between cold electron collisions and polarizable molecules in plasma. Such new negative ions lead to radio-frequency absorption in such discharges. The calculated radio-frequency absorption frequencies are consistent with earlier experimental measurements.

Sentences containing definite descriptions, expressions of the form `The F', can be formalised using a binary quantier that forms a formula out of two predicates, where ℩x[F;G] is read as `The F is G'. This is an innovation over the usual formalisation of definite descriptions with a term forming operator. The present paper compares the two approaches. After a brief overview of the system INF℩ of intuitionist negative free logic extended by such a quantier, which was presented in [4], INF℩ is first compared to a system of Tennant's and an axiomatic treatment of a term forming ℩ operator within intuitionist negative free logic. Both systems are shown to be equivalent to the subsystem of INF℩ in which the G of ℩x[F;G] is restricted to identity. INF℩ is then compared to an intuitionist version of a system of Lambert's which in addition to the term forming operator has an operator for predicate abstraction for indicating scope distinctions. The two systems will be shown to be equivalent through a translation between their respective languages. Advantages of the present approach over the alternatives are indicated in the discussion.

In Novarina’s work, the word establishes a “lyrical gesture” : it calls. Since the appearance of what is called constitutes the drama itself, we can consider the lyricism as communication between the subject and the object as the process of creation. This creative gesture is doubly negative. First of all, the writer does not exist anymore in the creation process accomplished with the spectators. Secondly, Novarinian fiction is defined by its negative qualities : informal and timeless, it develops a negative view that opens behind the language.

The nature and effects of party identification in post-communist democracies have been an object of disputes, as the existing research does not lead to conclusive results. The present paper contributes to the discussion with analyses of four-fold typology of partisans (Rose, Mishler 1998), who either have a positive or negative party identification, or both, or none. We embed this typology in a contemporary Polish context. Using the PNES data for the 2005–2019 elections, we examine the proportions of each type of partisanship and their stability in time. We also verify what their determinants are and what their influence on electoral participation is. Our results demonstrate that positive and negative party identifications are of rational origin, although since 2015, expressive partisanship is also developing. We also prove that positive, negative, and combined motivations make Poles more prone to vote, contributing to the stability of democracy on a behavioral level.

Presented article contains the simulation results of the turbogenerator negative sequence reactance and resistance. The results were obtained by using field-circuit model of the turbogenerator. The influences of solid steel rotor and nonmagnetic wedges in rotor slots on values of the eddy current were investigated. Additionally, the influence of two mentioned construction elements on the losses in the rotor due to negative sequence stator current was analyzed.
Prezentowany artykuł zawiera wyniki symulacyjne wyznaczonych reaktancji oraz rezystancji składowej przeciwnej turbogeneratora. Wyniki uzyskano przy wykorzystaniu modelu polowo-obwodowego turbogeneratora. Zbadano wpływ zarówno litej stali wirnika, jak i niemagnetycznych klinów na wartości prądów indukowanych w przewodzących częściach wirnika. Wyznaczono wpływ elementów konstrukcyjnych na straty powstające na skutek pojawienia się składowej przeciwnej prądu stojana.

Siemion Frank (1877-1950) considered the Universe as an 'all-unity'. According to him, everything is a part of the all-unity which has a divine character. God is present in the world but his nature is incomprehensible. In this article the author analyzes two consequences of Frank's panentheistic view concerning the relation between science and theology. Firstly, limits of scientific knowledge allow to emphasize the mystery of the world and the transcendence of God. Secondly, Frank claims that the nature is a 'trace' of God and the manifestation of the absolute reality, i.e., all-unity. As a result, both science and theology lead to the knowledge of God, although his essence remains inaccessible.

Modern and technologically advanced political marketing campaigns are making increasing use of the Internet. Although now one can observe a growing interest in particular in Web 2.0 (social networking, YouTube, etc.), it is also the “old” online tools (e.g. banner ads) which play an important role in marketing strategies. The article presents the results of an experiment whose purpose was to evaluate the effect of a negative political banner on the image and support for the attacked party. The results indicate that the negative banners decrease ratings of the attacked party image. However, these changes depend on both the intentionality use of the particular Web page on which a banner was placed, as well as on the level of Internet “experience” of affected individuals.
Nowoczesne i technologicznie zaawansowane polityczne kampanie marketingowe w coraz większym stopniu wykorzystują możliwości Internetu. Chociaż obecnie szczególnie wzrasta zainteresowanie Web 2.0 (sieci społecznościowe, YouTube, itp.), to jednak również „stare” online’owe narzędzia Internetowe są istotnym elementem strategii marketingowych. Artykuł przedstawia wyniki eksperymentu testującego skuteczność negatywnego baneru politycznego w zmianie ocen wizerunku i poparcia dla zaatakowanej w nim partii. Uzyskane wyniki wskazują, że negatywne banery obniżają oceny wizerunku zaatakowanej partii. Przy czym zmiany te zależą zarówno od intencjonalności korzystania ze strony Web, na której umieszczony był baner, jak również od internetowego „doświadczenia” badanych.

Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie polskiej adaptacji kwestionariusza NAQ do pomiaru mobbingu w miejscu pracy. Należy zaznaczyć, że kwestionariusz NAQ służy raczej do pomiaru mobbingu na poziomie organizacyjnym a nie indywidualnym. Stąd, przeznaczony jest do identyfikowania i oceny stopnia narażenia pracowników na mobbing w określonych środowiskach pracy, a także do porównywania wskaźników uzyskanych w różnych krajach, grupach zawodowych czy organizacjach. Adaptacja NAQ została przeprowadzona na podstawie danych uzyskanych od grupy 1098 polskich nauczycieli. W jej wyniku opracowano polską wersję skali NAQ charakteryzującą się wysoką rzetelnością (alpha Cronbacha = 0,94) oraz trafnością teoretyczną (ustaloną poprzez oszacowanie związku zdrowia psychicznego i zadowolenia z pracy z mobbingiem). Uzyskanie takich wskaźników pozwala na wykorzystywanie opracowanej wersji NAQ w polskich organizacjach i dokonywanie porównań międzykulturowych.
The aim of this article was to present a Polish adaptation of the NAQ questionnaire for measuring mobbing at work. It is necessary to stress that the NAQ questionnaire was designed for measuring mobbing at work on an organizational rather than on an individual level. Hence it is used to identify and assess the extent of exposure to workplace mobbing in specific work settings and also to compare survey results from different countries, occupational groups and organizations. The adaptation of the NAQ was carried out on the basis of data from a sample comprised of 1098 Polish teachers. As a result of this adaptation the Polish version of NAQ was developed; it has satisfactory reliability (Cronbach's alpha = 0.94) and construct validity (via correlations between mental health and work satisfaction and experience of workplace mobbing). This psychometric characteristics make it possible to use this version of questionnaire in Polish organizations and making cross culture comparisons.

Dennoch blieb für ADORNO das Theater ein Ort der Kunst, verwirklichte sich die Revolution nicht in der performativen Verweigerung von Sinn, im grausamen Realen der ‚Sirenen‘ und der Dekonstruktion, sondern in einem Werk, das das Unversöhnliche darzustellen und so zu versöhnen habe.
Why, in April 1969, did ADORNO, the philosopher of the student revolt, the advocate of the avant-garde from Schoenberg to Beckett, flee when he was faced with the performative actions of protesting students with naked breasts? The article discusses connections between ADORNO’S Dialectics of Enlightenment, Negative Dialectics and Aesthetic Theory and the aesthetics of today’s performative and post-dramatic theatre. For ADORNO, theatre remained a place of art, and the revolution did not come to fruition in the performative denial of meaning, in the cruel reality of “sirens”, and in deconstruction, but in the work of art itself, that is supposed to represent the irreconcilable and thus to lead to reconciliation.

Opis:

Computer games are an interactive form of entertainment that is popular with younger and younger players. Therefore researchers are actively seeking information on the consequences of pursuing this type of pastime. At the beginning, the researchers’ attention was focused mainly on the negative aspects of gaming. Nowadays, more and more benefits related to this activity are being indicated. In 2014, Granic, Lobel and Engels published an article on the benefits of playing computer games. The researchers focused on four areas: cognitive, motivational, emotional, and social. They wanted to inspire new research on mental health benefits of gaming by pointing to various research reports they selected. This paper aims to present the research directions explored in recent years by researchers who strive to describe the positive and negative consequences of gaming. I present the main directions and examples of research in these areas, highlighting the ambiguity of the current results. Problematic areas related to gaming include aggression and violence, addiction, weakening of social relations, experiencing undesirable emotions, sexualization, racial prejudice, and racial discrimination. The indicated opportunities and benefits are the strengthening of cognitive, motor, emotional, and social competences.

The aim of the present study was to assess the haemolytic and proteolytic activity of coagulase- negative staphylococci (CNS) isolated from cows with mastitis. The study was conducted on 100 CNS strains: S. xylosus (n=28), S.chromogenes (n=26), S.haemolyticus (n=25), S. sciuri (n=14), S. warneri (n=4), S.hominis (n=2), S.saprophyticus (n=1); 22 CNS were isolated from cows with clinical mastitis and 78 from those with subclinical mastitis. The CNS studied showed the ability to produce only α-haemolysin and belonged to one strain – S. haemolyticus (21.0% of isolated CNS strains). Haemolysin-positive CNS were responsible for both clinical and subclinical mastitis (22.7% and 20.5%, respectively). The ability to produce protease was found in 31.0% of CNS belonging to two strains: S. chromogenes and S. sciuri. Protease-positive CNS were the etiological factor of both clinical and subclinical mastitis (31.8% and 30.8%, respectively). All S. xylosus, S. warneri, S. hominis, and S. saprophyticus strains were found protease-negative and haemolysin-negative, irrespective of whether they caused clinical or subclinical mastitis in cows.

In this paper, we study propagation of electromagnetic wave in negative ternary refractive indices of two-dimensional photonic crystals. We consider two structures with two concentric cylindrical rod and shell in which one of them has negative refractive indices, in positive dielectric background. It is shown that by increasing the diameter of the rod in both structures, we can obtain more and wider band gaps in comparison with the structures in which there is no negative refractive index materials. This increase is more considerable in the first structure, in which the rod has a negative refractive index, in comparison with the second one, where the rod has a positive refractive index.

Opis:

In the article an open Queueing Network (QN) with positive and negative messages and incomes, which can be used in modeling of the behavior of viruses at the Information Systems and Networks (ISN), and also at forecasting costs taking into account virus penetration, was analyzed. Some numerical and analytical results were described on the analysis of exponential QN of the above type. It was given an algorithm of simulation modeling (SM) of HM-networks with positive and negative messages, based on the 0-point, which allows you to find incomes in such networks with arbitrary distribution of service times of positive messages. The results of the SM have been compared with the proposed analytical and numerical results. Sufficiently high accuracy of these methods was shown.

We identify two ways of introducing negative numbers. In the first one, a totally ordered set (L, $\prec $) is presupposed, an element 0 in L is arbitrarily taken, and a number a is negative when a 0. In the second one, a negative number is defined by the formula a + (−a) = 0. From a mathematical perspective, the first method involves the idea of a totally ordered group (G,+, 0,<), while the second one considers the idea of the algebraic group (G,+, 0) alone. Through the analysis of source texts, we show that the first model originates in John Wallis’ 1685 Treatise of Algebra, while the second one comes form the theory of polynomials, as developed by Descartesin his 1637 La Géométrie. In mathematical education, the first model is applied in the overwhelming majority. Still, we identify a theory that applies to the second model. We show how to develop it further and simplify the representation of the operation a + (−a) = 0 by turning the second modelin to a tablet game.

Let A and B be selfadjoint operators in a Krein space. Assume that the resolvent difference of A and B is of rank one and that the spectrum of A consists in some interval I ⊂ R of isolated eigenvalues only. Hospital infections, and in particular infections of the surgical site are a common problem of the procedural departments. Due to continuous progress of surgical techniques and patient population getting older with multiple co-morbidities, multidirectional actions need to be taken to avoid these infections or, if they do occur, achieve optimal treatment outcomes. Vacuum wound therapy is one of the directions that has been developed over the recent years. The aim of the study evaluate wound healing in patients after an off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting procedure, using the internal mammary artery, treated with negative pressure wound therapy system. Material and methods. This prospective, open label study evaluated healing of postoperative sternotomy wounds after their primary closure with negative pressure wound therapy, using continuous negative pressure of -80 mmHg in 40 patients and 40 patients in a control group in whom conventional dressings were applied in the postoperative period. Results. The number of patients in whom primary wound healing occurred without complications was significantly higher in the negative pressure wound therapy group versus the control group (x2 test =4.50, p=0.0339) and the number of total superficial infections was significantly smaller versus the control group (x2 test =5; p=0.0254). Antibiotic therapy was also initiated significantly less often as compared to the group treated with conventional dressings (x2 test = 4.11; p=0.0425). Conclusions. Negative pressure wound therapy after primary wound closure reduces the risk of superficial infections in the population with multiple risk factors of complications in the sternotomy wound healing.

By the use of different distribution methods of dynamical characteristics in the form of slowness function, mechatronic discrete systems have been synthesized. Each model consists of mechanical discrete part and a piezostack actuator connected to LxRxCx external network that has to comply with dynamical requirements in the form of poles and zeros. External network can work within different configurations. In this paper, one investigates the influence of negative parameters of stiffness in mechanical replacement models and capacitance in final mechatronic structures, after dimensionless transformations and retransformations.
Korzystając z wybranych metod rozkładu funkcji charakterystycznej w postaci powolności zsyntezowano mechatroniczne dyskretne układy drgające. W każdym przypadku układ zbudowano z mechanicznego modelu dyskretnego oraz piezo aktuatora typu „stack” połączonego z zewnętrznym obwodem elektrycznym LxRxCx . Układy zaprojektowano ze względu na wymagania dynamiczne w postaci biegunów i zer. Zewnętrzny układ elektryczny może występować w różnych konfiguracjach. W pracy, po bezwymiarowych transformacjach i retransformacjach, zbadano wpływ ujemnych parametrów: sztywności w mechanicznym modelu zastępczym oraz pojemności w finalnym układzie mechatronicznym LxCx , na charakterystyki rozważanych układów.

Growing professionalization and personalization of electoral campaigns have prompted political parties to concentrate on political image and negative campaigning. This tendency is mainly noticeable in TV advertisements. Presented article consists of two parts. The first one discusses the role of negative and image ads. The other part includes the results of research conducted by the author. The analysis shows that the vast majority of Polish electorate does not approve using of negative and image advertising. It can denote that voters are exhausted of permanent mutual attacks of two major Polish parties (Civic Platform, Law and Justice) and expect more issue-oriented politics.

Opis:

Die Herangehensweisen zum Verständnis der künstlerischen Tätigkeit kann man aufgrund des „ontologischen Kennzeichens“ aufteilen. Der positive Ansatz besagt, dass das künstlerische Schaffen ein neues Sein der Welt hinzufügt. Der negative Ansatz stellt fest, dass ein Element des Seins im Schaffensprozess entfernt wird. Bei der Analyse der Relation „Schöpfer – Schaffen“ kann man in jedem Schaffenskonzept eine „Ausrichtung“ der künstlerischen Tätigkeit unterscheiden - entweder auf die Hinzufügung eines neuen Seins oder auf seine Entfernung. Beispielsweise ist das negative Schaffen nur auf solche Weise möglich, dass der Schöpfer ein Sein entfernt. Als repräsentative Beispiele wurden Konzepte von Berdiajew und Blanchot ausgewählt. Die Untersuchungen zeigen überdies, dass es mehr komplizierte Herangehensweisen zum Problem des Schaffens gibt, z. B.eine „neutrale“ oder eine transformative, die von der Transformation eines in der Welt existierenden Seins spricht. Der anthropologische Aspekt des Schaffens zeigt sich im Begriff der Intentionalität. Dieser Begriff ermöglicht unterschiedliche Ansätze und Konzepte im Bereich der künstlerischen Praxis.
Approaches to the understanding of creativity are divided in relation to the “ontological measure”. Accordingly, the positive approach involves the addition of a new Being to the world through creativity; the negative approach involves the subtraction of the Being from one of the components of the creative process, for the possibility of creativity. It is possible to allocate “the direction” of creativity, in relation to the addition or subtraction through the study of “creator – creation” relations in every conception of creativity. For example, negative creativity is possible only through subtraction of the Being from the position “creator”. The conceptions of Berdyaev and Blanchot are chosen as representative approaches. In addition, the researcher notes that there are more complicated approaches to the understanding of creativity, for example, “neutral” or transformative ones, which are based on the transformation of the existing Being in the world. The anthropological aspect of creativity is revealed through the notion of intentionality. This concept shows equal opportunities of different approaches and concepts in the field of practice of creativity.
Sposoby podejścia do rozumienia twórczości można podzielić ze względu „wskaźnik ontologiczny”. Ujęcie pozytywne mówi, że twórczość dodaje do świata pewien nowy byt. Koncepcja negatywna stwierdza, że jeden z elementów bytu zostaje w procesu twórczości usunięty. Analizując relację „twórca – tworczośc”, w każdej koncepcji twórczości można wyodrębnić „nakierowanie” działania twórczego – albo na dodanie nowego bytu, albo na jego usunięcie. Przykładowo, twórczość negatywna jest możliwa tylko w ten sposób, że „twórca” usuwa pewien byt. Jako reprezentatywny przykłady zostały wybrane koncepcje Berdiajewa i Blanchota. Badania pokazują ponadto, że jest więcej złożonych podejść do rozumienia twórczości, na przykład podejście „neutralne” bądź transformatywne, które mówi o przekształcaniu istniejącego w świecie bytu. Antropologiczny aspekt twórczości ujawnia się w pojęciu intencjonalności. Pojęcie to stwarza możliwość różnych ujęć i koncepcji na polu praktyki twórczej.

The temperature dependence of dissociative attachment has been investigated in the temperature range 350-575 K for two freon derivatives 1,1,1-C2H3F2Cl and C2F5Cl using Electron Capture Negative Ion Mass Spectra (ECNI MS). The temperature dependence for 1,1,1-C2H3F2Cl is similar to that observed in the case of CF3Cl reported by Illenberger et al. In contrast, C2F5Cl exhibits quite a different spectrum and its temperature behavior. It has been suggested that sigma*C-Cl delocalization onto two empty orbital leads to Cl- ion formation in two different resonance states.

In this paper a simulation of model-based acoustic echo cancelation and near-end speaker extraction using statistical methods relying on nonnegative matrix factorization (NMF) is proposed. Acoustic echo cancelation using the NMF algorithm is developed and its implementation is presented, along with all positive, real time elements and factorization techniques. Experimental results are compared against the widely used existing adaptive algorithms which have a disadvantage in terms of long impulse response, increased computational load and wrong convergence due to change in near-end enclosure. All these shortcomings have been eliminated in the statistical method of NMF that reduces echo and enhances audio signal processing.

Les moyens d’exprimer l’intensité dans les langues ont été décrits de diff´erentes manières dans de nombreux travaux. Dans cet article, nous nous basons sur la proposition de Kleiber, qu’il faut distinguer l’intensité comprise comme une détermination quantitative d’une propriété et l’intensité comprise comme étant elle-même une propriété, laquelle est au coeur de nos réflexions. Cette intensité-propriété est caractéristique, selon Kleiber, pour quatre groupes de mots désignant : sensations physiques, phénomènes atmosphériques, affects et activités. En construisant les mots appartenant à ces quatre groupes avec les prédicats quantitatifs à polarité négative (affaiblir, baisser, diminuer, faiblir, tomber), nous pouvons constater que les prédicats sélectionnés se lient le plus facilement avec les mots désignant les affects et les sensations physiques, et le moins avec les noms des activités. La modification par prédicat quantitatif permet de répartir d’une autre manière les mots appartenant à quatre groupes distingués par Kleiber.
Markers of intensity have been described differently in different works. This paper is based on Kleiber’s (2013) idea that intensity defined as the quantitative determination of the feature should be distinguished from intensity conceived as a feature in itself. This intensity-property is characteristic, according to Kleiber, of four groups of words: physical sensations, meteorological phenomena, feelings and actions. Combining the words belonging to these four groups with quantitative predicates (affaiblir, baisser, diminuer, faiblir, tomber), which introduce a negative polarity, shows that the selected predicates combine the easiest with words designating feelings and physical sensations, and the least with those which name actions. The connectivity of selected predicates can help reclassify the groups of words selected by Kleiber.

We show how the absolute differences approach is particularly effective to interpret the Gini coefficient (G) when a distribution includes both positive and negative values. Either in erasing units having negative values, or in transforming negative values into zero, a significant variability fraction can be lost. When including negative values, instead of correcting G, to maintain it lower than 1, the standard G should be kept to compare the variability among different situations; a recent normalization, Gp, can be associated to G, to evaluate the variability percentage inside each situation.

The aim of this paper is to present selected issues of the effective allocation of resources and its function in optimal decision-making processes. The authors focus on the economic consequences of market failure in the case of external effects - both positive and negative. It has been characterized from the theoretical perspective by illustrating the economic implications of this situation for producers (producers surplus), consumers (consumer surplus), and the environment (external costs and benefits). This paper shines a light on effective levels of production, the subsidies to producers (in the case of positive externalities), or correcting tax (in the case of negative externalities). Moreover, the decision rules that are used in the cost-benefit analysis (a method supporting the decision-making process undertaken by both private entities and public authorities) are given. There are specific examples of its application in order to achieve allocative efficiency. An exception of its use is to achieve cost efficiency, which does not ensure that a project, program, or policy is socially optimal and desirable. The second part of this paper includes theoretical implications of market failure. The results of the authors' mathematical model that is used to optimize long-term energy sector development are presented. The importance of the presented results is that they reflect development of the Polish energy sector, both from the private and public viewpoint, taking into account the adverse effects caused by the emission of gaseous pollutants. Consumer and producer surpluses were the bases to estimate costs and benefits of change in the social welfare. It has been proven that the use of private welfare criterion is incorrect. The internalization of external costs (which means including them in decision-making criterion, significantly - i.e., 24%) increases the level of social welfare achieved on the scale of the whole Polish energy sector.

The article presents the foundations, symptoms and consequences of self-hatred as experienced by Geraldine, the black female character portrayed in Toni Morrison’s first novel, The Bluest Eye. Primarily, based on the psychological concepts of Rosenberg, Higgins and Horney, it defines self-loathing as an extremely negative self-concept, a depreciation of one’s own physical attractiveness, intellect and abilities which is accompanied by anger towards oneself. The key characteristic of this process is expressed by a decreased level of self-esteem that is effectuated by an internalization of negative in- and out-group concepts based on racial prejudice and sexism, as well as on a sense of social rejection and intolerance. An additional reason behind the black woman’s conviction of her inferiority and unworthiness is her idealization of white culture, of its standards of beauty and lifestyle with which she is bombarded. In consequence, the black female character tends to overestimate the image of whiteness and to underestimate her blackness. Instead, by being an organic part of the culture that detests her, she learns to hate her dark skin, her poverty, otherness and funkiness. This acquired hatred generates a discrepancy between her actual self and the ideal or ought self, effectuating in a neurotic desire to eradicate all attributes of the actual, despised self. Therefore, Geraldine disparages, doubts and discredits the epitomes of her blackness and bitterly endeavors to eradicate it. To achieve this, she firstly obliterates her native and cultural identity, both in the physical and mental dimension, and secondly she invents a new identity which allows her to escape from her hopelessness and ugliness.

Some alien woody species used in commercial forestry become invasive and, as invaders, cause major problems in natural and semi-natural ecosystems. However, the deliberate introduction of aliens can bring unintended negative changes also within areas of their cultivation. This paper presents the effects of the intentional introduction of the North-American Quercus rubra in European mixed Scots pine-Pedunculate oak forests (POFs): Querco roboris-Pinetum (W. Mat. 1981) J. Mat. 1988. Phytosociological data from field research combined with GIS data analysis of the current distribution of Northern Red oak in the studied habitat were used to determine the composition and structure of forest communities in plots with and without Q. rubra participation. The results show that Q. rubra significantly reduces native species richness and abundance, both in old-growth and in secondary (post-agricultural) forests. Not one resident vascular plant benefits from the introduction of Northern Red oak and only a few are able to tolerate its co-occurrence. The natural restocking of all native woody species is also strongly limited by this alien tree. The introduction of Northern Red oak significantly limits the environmental functions of the POF ecosystem and weakens its economic and social aspects. However, its further cultivation is justified from an economic point of view, as the essential function of the studied forests is commercial timber production, and the introduction of this fast growing alien tree supports the provisioning ecosystem services. A clear description of the level of trade-off between the accepted negative and positive effects of the introduction of Q. rubra on forest ecosystem services requires further interdisciplinary studies.

The aim of the article is to discuss the research results of the study conducted on English teachers’ negative emotions experienced during COVID-19. In order to collect the data, 30 English teachers from secondary schools were asked to keep a diary for one semester and describe situations that aroused feelings of anxiety, anger, and loneliness. The study was of a qualitative nature, and it showed that most of the emotions that the English teachers experienced were associated with the lack of support from the government and their colleagues, and also with the uncertainty about the future.

This paper addresses the issue of the development of FOR DREAD THAT – a negative purpose subordinator in the history of the English language. The theoretical foundation of this work are the mechanisms of grammaticalisation suggested by Heine and Kuteva in many works of theirs. The gathered material shows that the development of this relatively rarely used subordinator constitutes a case of a typical grammaticalisation whose rise might have been the result of analogy with FOR FEAR THAT.
Celem artykułu jest analiza powstania oraz zmian zachodzących w spójniku wprowadzającym zdania podrzędne wyrażające negatywny cel FOR DREAD THAT w historii języka angielskiego. Fundamentem teoretycznym badania są mechanizmy gramatykalizacji zaproponowane przez Heinego i Kutevę w wielu ich pracach. Zebrany materiał pokazuje, iż rozwój tego stosunkowo rzadko występującego spójnika jest przypadkiem typowej gramatykalizacji, a jego powstanie mogło być wynikiem analogii do FOR FEAR THAT.

The study purpose is to measure the performance of the Vietnamese garment and textiles industry by means of the Negative Malmquist model using the data envelopment analysis (DEA) method. The empirical results presented the efficient, inefficient cases, and average efficiency for all garment and textile companies in Vietnam during from 2016 to 2020. The main findings determined that five companies, including HTG, TET, MSH, M10, and BDG possessed efficiency scores in whole terms. An overall picture of the garment and textiles industry in Vietnam is used to evaluate the operational process. The research recommends a feasible alternative method to deal with inefficient cases.

Item count techniques (ICTs) are indirect survey questioning methods designed to deal with sensitive features. These techniques have gained the support of many applied researchers and undergone further theoretical development. Latterly in the literature, two new item count methods, called Poisson and negative binomial ICTs, have been proposed. However, if the population parameters of the control variable are not provided by the outside source, the methods are not very efficient. Efficiency is an important issue in indirect methods of questioning due to the fact that the protection of respondents’ privacy is usually achieved at the expense of the efficiency of the estimation. In the present paper we propose new improved Poisson and negative binomial ICTs, in which two control variables are used in both groups, although in a different manner. In the paper we analyse best linear unbiased and maximum likelihood estimators of the proportion of the sensitive attribute in the population in the introduced new models. The theoretical findings presented in the paper are supported by a comprehensive simulation study. The improved procedure allowed the increase of the efficiency of the estimation compared to the original Poisson and negative binomial ICTs.

Wobec globalnego kryzysu finansowego banki centralne sięgnęły po niekonwencjonalne instrumenty polityki monetarnej. W pierwszej kolejności zastosowały politykę stopy procentowej, sprowadzając bazowe stopy procentowe do bardzo niskiego (niemal zerowego) poziomu. W kolejnych latach nie podjęły jednak działań normalizujących. Sytuacja makroekonomiczna wymagała bowiem dalszych zdecydowanych inicjatyw. Po raz pierwszy w historii banki centralne przyjęły politykę ujemnych stóp procentowych (Negative Interest Rate Policy – NIRP). Celem głównym artykułu jest eksploracja ryzyka towarzyszącego polityce ujemnych stóp procentowych, zmierzająca do analizy kanałów jego wpływu na gospodarkę i konsekwencji ich wzrostu wskutek normalizacji polityki monetarnej banków centralnych. W opracowaniu wskazuje się, że ryzyko ujemnych stóp procentowych, dotychczas nierozpoznawalne w teorii stopy procentowej, podobnie jak ryzyko stóp procentowych bliskich zeru, modyfikuje dotychczasowy paradygmat polityki monetarnej, a jego ocena – z uwagi na systemowy charakter ryzyka ujemnych stóp procentowych – wymaga monitorowania.
In the face of the global financial crisis, central banks have used unconventional monetary policy instruments. Firstly, they implemented the interest rate policy, lowering base interest rates to a very low (almost zero) level. However, in the following years they did not undertake normalizing activities. The macroeconomic environment required further initiatives. For the first time in history, central banks have adopted Negative Interest Rate Policy (NIRP). The main aim of the study is to explore the risk accompanying the negative interest rate policy, aiming at identifying channels and consequences of its impact on the economy. The study verifies the research hypothesis stating that the risk of negative interest rates, so far unrecognized in Theory of Interest Rate, is a consequence of low effectiveness of monetary policy normalization and may adopt systemic nature, by influencing – through different channels – the financial stability and growth dynamics of the modern world economy.

We show a negative relation between the inflation rate and the unemployment rate, that is, the Phillips curve using a three-period overlapping generations (OLG) model with childhood period and pay-as-you-go pension for older generation under monopolistic competition with negative real balance effect. In a three-period OLG model, there may exist a negative real balance effect because consumers have debts and savings. A fall (or rise) in the nominal wage rate induces a fall (or rise) in the price, then by negative real balance effect, the unemployment rate rises (or falls), and we get a negative relation between the inflation rate and the unemployment rate. This conclusion is based on the premise of utility maximisation of consumers and profit maximisation of firms. Therefore, we present a microeconomic foundation for the Phillips curve. We also examine the effects of fiscal policy financed by seigniorage, which is represented by left-ward shift of the Phillips curve.

Opis:

Sensitive attributes are extremely difficult to be measured directly. Recently new indirect methods of questioning, called Poisson and negative binomial item count techniques, have been proposed by [Tian et al. 2014]. This paper focuses on important problem of comparing proportions of sensitive items in two populations when using new indirect method. Proper statistical theory is introduced, including tests for equality of two sensitive proportions followed by derivation of their asymptotic power functions. Simulation studies are conducted to illustrate the problem.

This article looks at the question of the influence of armament and military activity on the environment during peace time. Different types of threats were characterized, posed by the production, storage, testing, liquidation and use of conventional weapons and weapons of mass destruction. The aim of this article is to show some examples of threats for the environment, generated by armaments, and to present possible ways to reduce them. Except for the general characteristic of the different factors having a negative influence on ecological safety, some historical examples were shown of armaments which had harmed the environment in particular. Then activities will be presented, which have been being conducted by states individually or under international agreements, and strive to reduce this influence. The pure environment is one of human rights and an awareness of the importance of ecological security is growing in societies. That why the question of ensuring safety, especially in such a controversial matter as armament, becomes one of the most important global problems.

The author’s intention is to present the most important techniques applied by Słowacki intended to evoke a negative projection of death in three dramas written in the pre-mystic period: Kordian, Balladyna and Beatryks Cenci. The excerpted material is analysed semantically and lexically in view of its semantic contexts concerning human death. The basis of the reconstruction of the negative creation of mors, featured in these works, is provided by a description and discussion of the figures of speech and rhetorical devices with a lexical component that belongs to the semantic field ‘death’ (metaphors and personifications in particular), as well as substitute designations for designates that are related to the phenomenon of the passing of time where one’s life is slowly coming to an end. In addition, the author provides a characteristics of the Thanatic semantics of the lexeme blood and derivatives thereof, as well as names for the colour red. Verbal realizations of such conceptual constructions highlight such features of deaths as: mysteriousness, ghastliness, rapaciousness, perversity, brutality and cruelty that imply the feeling of sadness, fear and repulsion. It should be noted, however, that the “theater of death”, presented by Słowacki in the dramas, is of ambivalent nature because the negative manifestations of Thanatos are at the same time supplemented with euphemistic approaches aimed at easing the tension, softening the horror of death and camouflaging its terrifying dimension. Antonin Artaud’s « Théâtre de la cruauté » consists in the extreme display of the conflictive nature of the world. The Catalan poet Josep Palau i Fabre highlighted the poetic and negative dimensions of Artaud’s project and insisted on its failure, addressing its impossible objectivation and its similarity with alchemy. The article aims to identify the central elements of Palau’s interpretation, annihilation and debirth, and to assess their inscription in an experimental poetics proposal inspired by alchemy.

Opis:

The main aim of this paper is to present the study designed to check whether negative attitudes towards interactions with robots may be influenced by demonstrating videos presenting advanced modern robots. The attitude was measured with the use of the Negative Attitude toward Interactions with Robots questionnaire (NATIR). 66 subjects participated in the study divided into the pretest, a video presentation and the post‐test. Our main findings are the following. There is a significant difference between pre‐test and post‐test NATIR scores—the attitude towards interactions with robots improved after our subjects watched a video. We also observe an effect of participants gender on NATIR results—men had more positive attitude than women.

Opis:

Negative advertising in the 2015 Polish election campaigns. Political advertising is among the basic tools employed by electoral campaigns. One variation, namely negative advertising, attracts exceptional interest. The paper presents the reasons for resorting to negative advertising and the results of the analysis of advertising messages employed by the electoral committees of Andrzej Duda and Law and Justice (PiS) in the 2015 presidential and parliamentary election campaigns, respectively. The victorious electoral teams’ advertising was examined in order to determine the share of negative advertising in their advertising campaigns. The qualitative analysis is based on the advertising spots published by the electoral committees of Andrzej Duda and Law and Justice on their official YouTube channels.
Reklama polityczna jest jednym z podstawowych narzędzi prowadzenia kampanii wyborczych. Szczególnym zainteresowaniem cieszy się jedna z jej odmian – reklama negatywna. Artykuł przedstawia przesłanki wykorzystywania reklamy negatywnej, a także wyniki analizy ogłoszeń reklamowych komitetów wyborczych Andrzeja Dudy oraz Prawa i Sprawiedliwości wyemitowanych w kampaniach 2015 roku – odpowiednio prezydenckiej i parlamentarnej. Celem analizy zwycięskich komitetów wyborczych było ustalenie, jaki udział w ich strategiach reklamowych miały reklamy negatywne. Analiza ma charakter jakościowy i dokonana została w oparciu o spoty wyborcze komitetów wyborczych Andrzeja Dudy oraz Prawa i Sprawiedliwości, opublikowane na oficjalnych kanałach Youtube KW Andrzeja Dudy i KW Prawa i Sprawiedliwości.

Opis:

An enteric fistula that occurs in an open abdomen is called an enteroatmospheric fistula (EAF) and is the most challenging complication for a surgical team to deal with. The treatment of EAF requires a multidisciplinary approach. First of all, sepsis has to be managed. Any fluid, electrolyte and metabolic disorders need to be corrected. Oral intake must be stopped and total parenteral nutrition introduced. The control and drainage of the effluent from the fistula is a separate issue. Since there are no fixed algorithms for the treatment of EAF, surgeons need to develop their own, often highly unconventional solutions. We present the case of a 24-year-old man who developed enteroatmospheric fistula after laparotomy and relaparotomy due to acute necrotic pancreatitis. Both the laparostomy and the fistula were successfully managed using modified negative pressure wound therapy. The literature regarding this issue was also reviewed.

Opis:

Degloving injury poses a severe therapeutic challenge concerning both trauma and plastic surgery. The injury involves separation of skin and subcutaneous tissue from fascia and muscles. Treatment is often long-lasting and brings unsatisfying results due to the extent of damage, risk of infection and massive blood loss. In this article, we present the management and therapeutic outcomes of a patient admitted due to the degloving injury of the lower extremity caused by workplace accident. We described the complexity of treatment including surgical intervention as well as additional treatment, which combined brought good esthetic outcome.

Introduction: The development of resistance to multiple antimicrobial agents in pathogenic bacteria has become a threat to public health. Multidrug-resistant strains that are particularly dangerous include MDR, XDR and PDR strains. Material and methods: Aspirate material from paranasal sinuses, obtained from patients with chronic sinusitis undergoing functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS) in Medical Center MML in Warsaw, was subjected to bacteriologic analysis. The isolated strains were identified to the species level and tested for antibiotic resistance. Then, minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) was determined. R esults: The isolated strains of coagulase-negative staphylococci were resistant mainly to macrolides, aminoglycosides and tetracycline. Nine of the isolated strains exhibited multidrug-resistance. Discussion: Bacteria causing chronic sinusitis are becoming increasingly resistant to antimicrobial agents. The diagnostic process for coagulase-negative staphylococci (CNS) is often limited to the identification of species, or even genus of the bacteria. The CNS strains are considered to be non-pathogenic and they are not subject to eradication. This may lead to erroneous therapeutic decisions and, consequently, to the development of antibiotic resistance. CNS infections are classified as nosocomial and therefore, appropriate epidemiological procedures have to be followed. The authors highlight the necessity to determine MIC values for antibiotics and to introduce personalized treatment.
