n the article I discuss the conceptual problem of other minds and different approaches to mental concepts. Firstly, I introduce the conceptual problem and argue that solutions proposed by theory-theory and direct perception approach are inadequate. I claim that mental concepts are neither theoretical terms nor observational terms. Then, I consider third option which states that mental concepts are dispositional terms, i.e. they concern particular patterns (stereotypes) of behavior. Finally, I argue that dispositional approach is to some extent coherent with phenomenological account and that phenomenological concept of embodiment can improve this position.

The aim of this paper is to outline how a theoretical intersection between systems theory and grounded theory could be articulated. The paper proceeds by marking that the important difference between systems theory and grounded theory is primarily reflected in the distinction between a revision of social theory on the one hand and the generation of theory for the social world on the other. It then explores figures of thought in philosophy that relate closely to aspects of Luhmann’s theory of social systems. An effectual intersection, an operational intersection, an intersection based on the concept of primary redundancy and a global/transcendental intersection between systems theory and grounded theory are proposed. The paper then goes on to briefly outline several methodological consequences of the intersection for a grounded systems methodology. It concludes by discussing the sort of knowledge for the social world that is likely to emerge from this mode of observation.

Discussions on the status and nature of lexicography have been ongoing since at least the 1960s. Some of the most frequently discussed issues concern lexicographical theory, including its very existence, which some scholars find problematic. And if it is considered to exist, questions as to what can be treated as a lexicographic theory arise: Is it a theory of dictionary making practice? Is it a linguistic theory? Is it a separate lexicographical theory? The aim of the article is to present and comment on the divergent positions. Finally, the author draws attention to the factors that cause that the discussion on lexicographical theory is not always conducted at the appropriate scientific level.

The issue of corporate governance is being taken up by different branches of science. Particular views on the nature and goals of a firm, as well as on corporate law, determine various approaches to the issue. The ongoing debate on corporate governance is being stimulated by notorious scandals and economic crises. The agency theory (prevailing today), which assumes egoism and pursuit of one’s own interests, forms the basis for shareholder primacy model, while team production theory forms the basis for director primacy model. Stewardship theory, which assumes convergence of management’s and stakeholders’ interests, may be competing or complementary towards the agency theory, depending on situation. According to management theory, efficient management requires law regulation of managers’ status. This paper is aimed at presenting controversies about traditional agency theory as theoretical basis for corporate governance, as well as at discussing other perspectives on the issue, which are extensions of the traditional theory or are based on substantially different premises. The analysis shows that going beyond agency theory allows for better understanding of the whole range of models of corporate governance as well as of the changes that are being proposed in the area. The method utilized in this paper is descriptive and comparative in character.

In article, author pay attention to the potential and scope of the impact of new forms of communication on the form and content of theoretical research. In principle, such an effect can be seen in two related, but different dimensions of analysis. In the first place it concerns the scope of the political theory, which is enriched with new areas and issues revealing previously unknown or not perceived problems, phenomena and processes that guide the interests of contemporary researchers. On the other hand, global mass communication techniques significantly shape, and thus change the existing forms of theoretical discourse and the structure of the theory itself. These changes in the perspective f plurality and decentralization of theoretical discourse subjects, as well as the emergence of new research areas which aspire to the status of scientific discipline, gain innovative importance especially from the point of view of the attempts to achieve meta-synthetic accumulation of social knowledge.

The expected utility theory axioms have been studied experimentally. Three of the experiments are a repetition of an earlier test in slightly changed circumstances, while the other two are original. The participants were incentivised with rewards, which did not happen in the replicated tests. The results confirmed the degeneration of the expected utility theory as a scientific research program. The evidence that resulted from the tests supported the hypothesis on the cumulative prospect theory predicting facts not forecasted by the EUT.

This editorial to the special issue of RiL dedicated to relevance theory and problems of intercultural communication addresses the general requirements that a theory of communication must meet to be applicable to the analysis of intercultural communication. Then it discusses criticism levelled against Grice’s theory of conversational implicature and Brown and Levinson’s theory of politeness on the grounds that these theories were not universal enough to be applied to all data. Finally, it offers some remarks on the applicability of relevance theory to intercultural pragmatics.

This paper presents the comparison among the control algorithms of a three phase, three wire shunt active power filter. The control algorithms are based on: 1) the current's physical components theory, 2) the p-q power theory. The active power filter operation under the distorted supply voltage at the point of common coupling condition is considered. The comparison concerns the aspects of: filtering current harmonics, reactive power compensation (defined in the fundamental harmonic domain), supply current balancing and dynamic performance. The results of the laboratory investigation, using the fast prototyping system dSPACE, are given in the paper. This paper confirms that the current's physical components theory allows developing the control algorithm of shunt active power filter and its practical implementation. The investigation allows the conclusion that this control algorithm enables achieving the supply system current shape close to the sinusoidal, despite shunt active power filter operation under the distorted supply voltage. A sinusoidal supply current cannot be attained by the control algorithm based on the p-q power theory without some additional control elements, such as: PLL, signal filters, etc. The experiment also has shown that the control algorithm based on the p-q power theory is easier to implement and less demanding in terms of hardware than the control algorithm based on the current's physical components theory.

Joking Asides: The Theory, Analysis and Aesthetics of Humour is a collection of twelve essays on humour, and more specifically on jokes, written by Elliot Oring, professor emeritus of anthropology and folklorist. In this review, I try to present his work, briefly sketching the author’s main positions and critiques about others’ work and the state of the art on humour research. I would strongly recommend such reading both to scholars and students willing to acquire a broad perspective on humour research and to be exposed to exemplary and acute critical reasoning ideal for inspiring new paths that humour research could take trying to solve the many questions still open after thousands of years.

The aim of the paper is to evaluate critically Wacław Janikowski's radically empiricist theory of meaning. In the first section, the author offers a critical analysis of the main theses and definitions proposed by Janikowski. His conclusion is that Janikowski fails to provide a coherent theory of meaning, balancing between functionalism, mentalism and behaviorism. In the second section, the author offers a more general reflection on the actual aim and expected form of a theory of meaning. He claims that in order to construct a comprehensive and adequate account of meaning one should start with the ontological question on the nature of linguistic items, and then ask the epistemological question on the structure of linguistic or communicative competence and end with considerations on the methodology of linguistic studies. In other words, the author rejects the approach tacitly adopted by Janikowski, who starts his theoretical reflection by deriving ontological conclusions on the nature of meaning from the previously accepted methodological principles.

The problem of opacity presents a challenge for generative phonology. This paper examines the process of Nasal Assimilation in Polish rendered opaque by the process of Vowel Deletion in Optimality Theory (Prince & Smolensky, 1993), which currently is a dominating model for phonological analysis. The opaque interaction of the two processes exposes the inadequacy of standard Optimality Theory arising from the fact that standard OT is a non-derivational theory. It is argued that only by introducing intermediate levels can Optimality Theory deal with complex cases of opaque interactions.

Sektor usług edukacyjnych na poziomie wyższym w warunkach gospodarki rynkowej dynamicznie się powiększył. Jednocześnie prognozy liczebności populacji potencjalnie zainteresowanej kształceniem się w szkolnictwie wyższym w Polsce dowodzą, że będzie ona spadała. Zjawisko to niesie za sobą realne zagrożenie niemożności dalszego funkcjonowania wielu kierunków studiów. W obliczu niekorzystnych trendów demograficznych uczelnie podejmują szereg przedsięwzięć, których celem jest utrzymanie liczby rekrutowanych studentów na względnie zadowalającym poziomie. Jedną z uznawanych obecnie za kluczową strategię optymalizacji prorynkowych działań szkół wyższych jest rozpoznanie mechanizmów podejmowania decyzji o dalszym kształceniu się, motywów wyboru danej uczelni oraz kierunku studiów przez młodych ludzi. Badania wskazują, że taka diagnoza umożliwia i w instytucjonalnej sferze funkcjonowania uczelni, i w aspekcie programowo-organizacyjnym planowanie reform, które skutecznie przyczynią się do wzmocnienia jej pozycji na rynku usług edukacyjnych. Warunkiem realizowania naukowo rzetelnych i aplikacyjnie wartościowych badań czynników wpływających na decyzje edukacyjne młodzieży jest przygotowanie teoretycznych ram do planowania konkretnych empirycznych procedur badawczych. Przegląd publikacji naukowych wskazuje, że obecnie nie ma w literaturze polskiej całościowego opisu mechanizmów preferencji i motywów wyboru usługi edukacyjnej na poziomie wyższym. Celem autorki artykułu jest przedstawianie wyników badań literaturowych, dotyczących teorii wyborów edukacyjnych, stanowiących postawy do zrozumienia mechanizmów procesu podejmowania decyzji tak o podjęciu studiów wyższych w ogóle jak i wyboru ich charakterystyk (uczelnia, kierunek).
The educational services sector in higher education has grown rapidly in the times of the market economy. At the same time forecasts say that future interest in higher education will decline. Consequently, there is a real hazard that numerous degree programmes will have to be closed down. In the face of such an unfavourable demographic situation, higher education institutions engage in strategies aimed at maintaining a steady number of enrolled students. One such strategy includes investigating what drives young people to continue their education at a university level, what their motivations in choosing a given university or a particular degree programme are. Research suggests that knowing mechanisms governing such decisions is conducive to planning reforms at higher education institutions – both in terms of their operations and curriculum. Reforms can in turn successfully reinforce the institution’s position on the educational services market. In order to conduct academically sound and practically useful research into factors which influence the educational decisions of young people, one needs to develop a theoretical framework that will be utilised to plan specific empirical research procedures. The conducted literature review indicates that there are currently no publications in Poland that would thoroughly describe mechanisms and motives behind choosing education services at a tertiary level. The objective of the current study is to present literature concerning theories of educational choices. This discussion can be then used as a foundation towards understanding the mechanisms behind decisions taken by young people, e.g. whether to pursue university education at all, where to study and which degree programme to pick.

Opis:
Exact knowledge of the reliability characteristics as the time dependent unavailability coefficient for example, under influence of different ageing processes as well as under different failure types is very useful to the practitioners who have to find the optimal maintenance policy for their equipment. In this paper found models and their solutions have potential to face the optimisation task under the conflicting issues of safety and economics. Most of the solved models take into account ageing processes. An increasing tendency lately exists to include aging effects into the risk assessment models to evaluate its contribution. We developed different renewal models taking into account different ageing distributions of failures (Weibull, Erlang, log-normal): models with negligible renewal time, models with periodical preventive maintenance, alternating renewal process with lognormal distribution of failure time, and with two types of failures.

The paper offers a secondary analysis from a grounded theory doctoral study that reconsiders its “grounded systemic design” (Mitchell, 2005, 2007). While theorists across multiple disciplines fiercely debate the ontological implications of Niklas Luhmann’s autopoietic systems theory (Deflem 1998; Graber and Teubner 1998; King and Thornhill 2003; Mingers 2002; Neves 2001; O’Byrne 2003; Verschraegen 2002, for example), few investigators have yet to adopt his core constructs empirically (see Gregory, Gibson and Robinson 2005 for an exception). Glaser’s (1992, 2005) repeated concerns for grounded theorists to elucidate a “theoretical code” has provided an additional entry point into this project of integrating grounded theory with Luhmann’s abstract conceptual thinking about how global society operates. The author argues that this integration of methodology and systems thinking provides an evolution of grounded theory – rather than its ongoing “erosion” as Greckhamer and Koro-Ljungberg (2005) have feared – and a transportable set of methodological and analytical constructs is presented as a basis for further grounded study.

The concept of a reduction between subsets of a given space is described, giving rise to various complexity hierarchies, studied both in descriptive set theory and in automata theory. We discuss in particular the Wadge and Lipschitz hierarchies for subsets of the Baire and Cantor spaces and the hierarchy of Borel reducibility for finitary relations on standard Borel spaces. The notions of Wadge and Lipschitz reductions are related to corresponding perfect information games.

The classical constraints used in phonological theory apply to a single candidate at a time. Yet, some proposals in the phonological literature have enriched the classical constraint toolkit with constraints that instead apply to multiple candidates simultaneously. For instance, Dispersion Theory (Flemming 2002, 2004, 2008) adopts distinctiveness constraints that penalize pairs of surface forms which are not sufficiently dispersed. Also, some approaches to paradigm uniformity effects (Kenstowicz 1997; McCarthy 2005) adopt Optimal Paradigm faithfulness constraints that penalize pairs of stems in a paradigm which are not sufficiently similar. As a consequence, these approaches need to “lift” the classical constraints from a single candidate to multiple candidates by summing constraint violations across multiple candidates. Is this assumption of constraint summation typologically innocuous? Or do the classical constraints make different typological predictions when they are summed, independently of the presence of distinctiveness or optimal paradigm faithfulness constraints? The answer depends on the underlying model of constraint optimization, namely on how the profiles of constraint violations are ordered to determine the smallest one. Extending an independent result by Prince (2015), this paper characterizes those orderings for which the assumption of constraint summation is typologically innocuous. As a corollary, the typological innocuousness of constraint summation is established within both Optimality Theory and Harmonic Grammar.

In the paper two kinds of uncertainty: randomness and imprecision are proposed to be considered in a structure description. Imprecise experts' opinions can be described using fuzzy numbers. As a results, the reliability analysis of a structure can be based on the limit state function with fuzzy parameters. As a consequence, the structural failure or survival can be treated as fuzzy events. The probabilities of these fuzzy events can be the upper and the lower estimations of the structural reliability. They can be achieved using well-known reliability methods (e.g. Hasofer-Lind index and Monte Carlo simulations). They can be used as a base for the calibration of partial safety factors in desing codes.
W niniejszej pracy proponuje się uwzględnić w opisie konstrukcji dwa rodzaje niepewności: losowość i nieprecyzyjność. Nieprecyzyjne oceny ekspertów dotyczące konstrukcji proponuje się opisywać za pomocą liczb rozmytych. W rezultacie, niezawodność konstrukcji określać się będzie w oparciu o funkcję stanu granicznego z rozmytymi parametrami. W konsekwencji, awarię konstrukcji lub jej brak traktować się będzie jako rozmyte zdarzenia losowe. Prawdopodobieństwa tych zdarzeń stanowić będą dolne i górne oszacowanie niezawodności konstrukcji. Można je wyznaczać za pomocą metod stosowanych już w niezawodności (np. wskaźnik Hasofera-Linda lub metody Monte Carlo). Mogą one służyć jako podstawa kalibrowania częściowych współczynników bezpieczeństwa w normach projektowych.

This article explores the connection between Constructivist Grounded Theory (CGT) and Symbolic Interactionism (SI) in the light of the methodological position presented in Herbert Blumer’s Symbolic Interactionism: Perspective and Method. The examination of this connection will take place in three steps: firstly, I will offer some preliminary considerations with regard to ‘variant forms’ in Grounded Theory (GT) as well as cite the present debates about the differences and similarities between different approaches within it; then, I will describe the essential characteristics of the ‘methodological position’ of SI and build some lines of continuity between these elements and the main tenets of constructionist GT; finally, I will present ten conceptual expressions and methodological practices in which it is possible to verify the methodological convergence between the two perspectives. This analysis makes it possible to consider the Constructivist Grounded Theory as a set of coherent principles, methods, and research practices from the point of view of a scholar inspired by the SI’s perspective. However, the peculiar reference to the methodological position of SI does not exhaust the set of possible epistemological and methodological sources, from which the perspective of GT derives. Instead, it represents a controversial point, with regard to which the debate still appears to be particularly heated.

The discussion on games as (not) art has been raging for decades without reaching a consensus. It is argued here that the ontological status of games is irrelevant for the perception and development of aesthetic experiences in videogames. Instead, game design should be regarded as ripe to convey the experience of art according  to established aesthetic theories. The essay presents Adorno’s aesthetic theory and highlights its reflections in the games Papers, Please and Observer. It then describes how they were synthesized into a  critical gameplay experience in the author’s game Distressed. The latter may be regarded as an example of a method in game studies in which the aesthetic potential of games is explored by creation rather than analysis. Arguably, this reveals the importance of epistemological approaches  towards games and art instead of the predominant ontological ones.

This essay delves into the concept of Theory Y, one of the hallmark relationship management principles of the 20th century introduced by Douglas McGregor in his influential book "The Human Side of Enterprise" (1960). Theory Y assumes that employees are self-motivated, seek responsibility, and do not dislike work. The essay explores the advantages and disadvantages of Theory Y, highlighting its potential in nurturing creativity and maintaining employee satisfaction, but also addressing its limitations in certain situations. Forecasting social phenomena may be hampered in many ways. This is because in nature of these phenomena lies strong and multilateral connection with other social phenomena; but not only – also physical and biological (natural) ones. The content of this publication constitutes presentation of chosen problems of forecasting in social sciences. The attention in the article was focused among others on deterministic chaos theory, on the attempt of its implementation to phenomena from the scope (or from borderline) of social sciences: economy, logistics, science about safety etc. Moreover, one of the threads of ponderation was the attempt to consider whether it’s possible to create so-called final theory. The aim of the publication is to signalize possibilities of taking advantage of seemingly exotic for “political scientists” methodology of modeling and explaining phenomena, having its source in exact sciences (in chaos theory) to study social phenomena and processes.

Non-linear dynamics phenomena have become important for various aircraft motions. Manoeuvrability of an aircraft in critical flight regimes involes non-linear aerodynamics and inertial coupling. Dynamical systems theory provides a methodology for studying non-linear systems of ordinary differential equations. Bifurcation theory is a part of that theory which is considering changes in the stability, which lead to qualitatively different responses of the system. These changes are called bifurcations. The mathematical models used in the paper assume a rigid aircraft with movable control surfaces, and "invidual blade" rotorcraft model. Aerodynamic model includes also a region of higher angles-of-attack including deep stall phenomena. In the present paper, the wing-rock oscillations, and helicopter spin(i.e. intensive spiral glide motion) was studies by means of checking the stability characteristics related to unstable equilibria. Numerical simulations were used to verify the predictions. Wing-rock oscillations were studied to observe the chaos phenomenon in post-stall manoeuvres. Unsteady aerodynamics for prediction of the airfoil loads was included, and the ONERA-type stall model was used.
Zastosowanie teorii systemów dynamicznych do badania krytycznych stanów lotu statków powietrznych. Ruch statku powietrznego jest opisywany za pomocą układu silnie nieliniowych równań różniczkowych zwyczajnych. Zlinearyzowanie równania ruchu nie mogą być zastosowane do opisu wielu zagadnień dynamiki lotu. Teoria systemów dynamicznych pozwala na efektywne badania nieliniowych równań różniczkowych. Teoria bifurkacji, będąca częścią teorii systemów dynamicznych, umożliwia badanie zmian stateczności, które ptowadzą do jakościowo różnych odpowiedzi systemu. Założono, że statek powietrzny jest nieodkształcalny. Uwzględniono stopnie swobody ruchomych powierzchni sterowych oraz łopat wirnika nośnego. Przyjęty model aerodynamiczny umożliwia uwzględnienie zjawiska głębokiego przeciągnięcia dynamicznego oraz niestacjonarności opływu(histereza współczynników aerodynamicznych). Za pomocą metodyki teorii systemów dynamicznych rozpatrzono osobliwości niestateczności typu wing-rock i tzw. "korkociągu" śmigłowca. W celu zweryfikowania przewidzianych niestabilności przeprowadzono cyfrową symulację tych ruchów. Zaobserwowano nieregularność rozwiązań charakterystycznych dla ruchów chaotycznych.

The aim of my article is to present and discuss psychological foundations of Chwistek’s theory of art. In quantum field theory it is believed that the spontaneous decay of excited atomic or molecular level is due to the interaction with continuum of field modes. Besides, the atom makes a transition from upper level to lower one so that the probability to find the atom in the excited state tends to zero. In this paper it will be shown that the mathematical model in single-photon approximation may predict another behavior of this probability generally. Namely, the probability to find the atom in the excited state may tend to a nonzero constant so that the atom is not in the pure state finally. This effect is due to that the spectrum of the complete Hamiltonian is not purely absolutely continuous and has a discrete level outside the continuous part. Namely, we state that in the corresponding invariant subspace, determining the time evolution, the spectrum of the complete Hamiltonian when the field is considered in three dimensions may be not purely absolutely continuous and may have an eigenvalue. The appearance of eigenvalue has a threshold character. If the field is considered in two dimensions the spectrum always has an eigenvalue and the decay is absent.

In the article written in September 1981 r. the author undertakes an attempt of describing and explaining the processes of change at the turn of the 1980s in Poland, - which are called 'revival movement' in the text - by the application of the one of sociological middle range theories, i.e. the collective behavior theory, social movements theory in particular. Middle range theories posses the generalizing potential, while at the same time they maintain the ability of explaining concrete social processes. The author suggest that the role of theory is to supply the tools for describing the processes of change and explaining their mechanisms. According to the author the possibilities of making predictions are limited in Polish case, however. After drawing three pairs of oppositions that allow describing the revival movement analytically (genetic-current; group-process related; immanent-contextual), the author draws eight hypothesis: (1) sequential accumulation hypothesis; (2) dissociation hypothesis; (3) tolerance threshold hypothesis; (4) diffusion hypothesis; (5) system emergence hypothesis; (6) axiological consensus hypothesis; (7) actions rationalization hypothesis; (8) society's new polarization hypothesis. These hypotheses are designed as the basis for the theory of revival movement.

The article is a presentation of the theory of intersectionality and aims to settle it within the framework of wider scientific discourses, as well as justifying its application in the field of social work. In particular, it is about possible adaptations of intersectionality to social work curricula based on literature review and particular teaching experience of the author. An attempt will be made to evaluate critical thinking competence and its possible adaptation to the social work curriculum. The text presents authors own research findings (inspired by the theory of intersectionality) based on the analysis of twenty student essays. The analysis was based on the analytical tool – semantic gravity – coming from the Legitimation Code Theory research framework. These findings demonstrated that the Legitimation Code Theory and theory of intersectionality can serve as a basis for the cumulative knowledge building with respect to critical thinking. Legitimation Code Theory offers an analytical toolbox with potential of ensuring critical thinking and could be called ‘catalyst of the critical awareness’. The possibility of analyzing the own knowledge depending on the context of both production and application seems to be crucial competence in the contemporary social work. The ability of identifying the multidimensional and multifaceted oppression is not only cognitive ability, but also can serve as the supporting tool or competence enabling assessment of the client’s situation. Implementing critical thinking as well as the theory of intersectionality to social work curriculum is justified. On the other hand, equipping social work students with tools enabling the analysis of their own educational activities, e.g. by introducing concept of semantic gravity which allows the student to look from the outside at her own educational activities, seems crucial for professional and academic development.

In the early 18th century, British art theory was an almost virgin field, open to inevitable influences from the continent. Anthony Ashley Cooper, the Third Lord of Shaftesbury, who devoted the last years of his life to various problems of art, made an attempt to create the first serious theory of art in England. In this article, I try to show that Shaftesbury was faced with the need to choose between two competing approaches to art widespread in France at the turn of the century: the traditional approach, based on the poetic understanding of painting, the essence of which was history and its moral meaning, and the new one, proposed by Roger de Piles, based on the action of color and light and shade, which create a comprehensive visual effect independent of the story presented in the picture. Shaftesbury took a traditional approach, driven by moral fears and rather reluctant to make sensual pleasure the goal of art. At the same time, he appropriated the key concepts of Roger de Piles: the pictorial unity and the whole picture, ignoring the ideas associated with them. This should be understood as a half-measure that allowed him to modernize the language of art without the danger of compromising the moral importance of painting.

This sketch presents important conceptions of reflectivity - including those of Anthony Giddens and Niklas Luhmann - as well as the developmental stages of the new interest in reflectivity, as opposed to reflection, on the grounds of sociology, and through sociology - in other social sciences as well. Subsequently, attention is drawn to radical reflectivity. Social theory based on the latter is a praxis theory, formulating opinions and beliefs, the propagation of which should lead to their confirmation as a result of their reflexive influence on social reality. Reflectivity is also a principle of relational social epistemology, which implies the necessity of analyzing various relational dimensions of the subject, as well as knowledge understood as a social process. The principle of radical reflectivity leads to pursuit of social theory as a multidimensional criticism of forms of knowledge and models of thinking about the world hitherto existing in European culture. In this search for critical distance, theology has also drawn the interest of reflective social theory.

Rozwój tych trzech dziedzin szczegółowych teorii pedagogicznych ma wyraźnie polską tożsamość i kierunek badań. W opracowaniu przyjęto założenie o nadrzędności pojęcia książki szkolnej (w stosunku do podręcznika) jako publikacji przeznaczonej dla szkoły. Dotychczas podręcznik i książka szkolna były pojęciami właściwie tożsamymi, stosowanymi wymiennie.
The development of the theory and practice of textbook is inextricably linked with the development of the theory of school books, technical theory of teaching and media education. The development of these three specific areas of pedagogical approach is clearly Polish identity and direction of research. The study assumes the primacy of the concept of educational book (compared to the manual) as a publication intended for the school. So far school textbook and the book were identical terms, used interchangeably.

The article contains a polemic against the hypothesis that the social sciences do not formulate scientific laws, only historical generalization. Some of the economic laws are not the attributes of the laws of science, but these are isolated cases (Okun's law). Most of the same economic laws as natural laws is a idealization. This means that it is accurate only when counterfactual assumptions. Economic laws are carelessly formulated, since they are not written in the form of sentences that consist of predecessor and successor. Predecessor of law of demand is consumer behavior assumptions that tend to favor psychological condition of operation. Assumptions about the of law of demand can not be predecessor of the of law on financial markets. Say's Law does not apply to the labor market, but the market for goods and services. universality of Keynes theory is limited because of the assumption thesis about the marginal propensity to consume is less than one.

The purpose of this article is to summarize methods used to evaluate the 16 Models of Relational Competence Theory (RCT). Methods to verify the validity and usefulness of these Models must take into account how these models are interrelated. This interrelatedness allows to evaluate participants with single and multi-function statically objective self-report, paper-and--pencil tests. Psychological interventions occur dynamically and systematically through workbooks, written, interactive practice exercises, administered to participants at a distance. Workbooks were developed from theory-derived, theory-related, or theory-independent sources and objective tests and measures, thus combining and matching evaluation with intervention in ways that would be diffi cult if not impossible to accomplish verbally in face-to-face psychotherapy.

The gap between game-theoretic predictions and actual choices people make in, for instance, gaming experiments has been over-interpreted as evidence against rationality of players. I consider a version of the ultimatum game and examine its equilibria under different assumptions about players’ preferences. Using standard notions of rationality I show that the discrepancy between the “normative” and the “descriptive” cannot be established by a simple comparison of what is predicted by the equilibrium choices and the actual choices people make.

Philosophical difficulties of stakeholder theory-which plays an important role in CSR and business ethics-are mainly connected to the questions of its status and justification. What sense does stakeholder theory have: descriptive, instrumental or normative? And if normative, why then should executives worry about multiple stakeholder demands? It is well known that Freeman, one of the most important authors of stakeholder theory, deliberately disregarded these problems. In philosophical questions, he invoked Rorty’s pragmatism that in his opinion effectively undermined the “positivistic” dichotomy between facts and values, science and ethics, and enabled stakeholder theory to be understood as both descriptive and normative. The article presents some difficulties connected with this view, focusing on its dubious assumptions and unfavourable consequences. These assumptions contain a false dilemma, taken from Rorty, which states that knowledge follows either a rule of representation or a rule of solidarity. One of the unfavourable consequences is the conclusion that stakeholder theory may be true only if its followers are able to force the stakeholders to accept its truthfulness. The main thesis of the article says that, because of pragmatic justification, stakeholder theory became a sort of arbitrary narration, which is unable to deal with its (empirical) misuses. However, a more traditional view on facts and values enables us to appreciate the descriptive advantages of the theory and to identify difficulties connected with its normative layer. From this point of view, the attempt at a pragmatic interpretation of stakeholder theory was a misunderstanding that should be withdrawn from circulation.

The article contains an analysis and conclusions concerning the meaning of contemporary social slogans in the light of Sperber and Wilson’s Relevance Theory (1995) and the socalled Epistemic Vigilance discussed amongst others by Mascaro and Sperber (2009). The text begins with a presentation of the state of art of the contemporary research of slogans commonly existing in the social, economic and political spheres of life of modern societies. This is followed by an in-depth analysis of selected social slogans originating from billboards of the most popular social campaigns emphasising the innovative character of research and the significance of new theories in linguistic practice. The conclusion states the role of Epistemic Vigilance in comprehension of the often deceptive character of advertising campaigns.

We provide a formal model for the interaction of syntax and pragmatics in the interpretation of anaphoric binding constraints on personal and reflexive pronouns. We assume a dynamic semantics, where type e expressions introduce discourse referents, and contexts are assignments of individuals to discourse referents. We adopt the Partial Compositional Discourse Representation Theory (PCDRT) of Haug (2014b), whereby anaphoric resolution is modelled in terms of a pragmatically-established relation between discourse referents. We integrate PCDRT into the constraint-based grammatical framework of Lexical Functional Grammar (LFG), and show how it is possible to state syntactic constraints on the pragmatic resolution of singular and plural anaphora within this framework.

First, the author provides a comprehensive explanation of the concept of power in an enterprise. Second, he attempts to prove that microeconomic theories of the firm may benefit considerably from the theory of power and its findings. The author develops an expanded definition of power based on Dahl’s concept. Two key theoretical approaches to power are presented: managerial and critical. The role of power in neoclassical, behavioral, managerial, institutional, new-institutional and micro-micro theories is examined. The author checks if the findings of the theory of power can be incorporated into microeconomic theories. The analysis reveals that the concept of power is not fully utilized and sometimes even neglected by microeconomic theory. This is despite the fact that the theory of power can enrich the microeconomic view and understanding of the enterprise, Miroński says. He looks at power as a neutral (not necessarily negative), dynamic and complex concept that can help explain many important microeconomic issues. Behavioral and managerial theories propose many alternative goals of the enterprise, and the concept of power may help predict which of these goals would dominate in a given situation. Transaction costs or “ineffectiveness X” from Leibenstein’s micro-micro theory are influenced by power relations within the company. Further research into the application of the theory of power in economic theory seems to be both justified and promising, Miroński concludes.

The goal of this article is to analyse the phenomenon of Velar Softening in English within the nonderivational framework of Optimality Theory. It is argued that earlier approaches, including the traditional OT model which incorporates purely phonological constraints and a single-UR approach to allomorphy, fail to account for the process in question in a satisfactory manner. Instead, it is claimed that Velar Softening can be explained in terms of the OT model which adopts a multiple-input view on allomorphy as well as the idea of morpho-phonological constraints. Thus, the paper offers a novel and more adequate analysis of this process.

Establishing good law has been an old dream of humanity. Back in ancient times leaders such as Hammurabi, Solon, and especially Justinian the Great, and many others, while attempting to codify and reform the law, were driven by the ideal of “good law”. ! is same idea inspired Montesquieu in his De l’esprit des lois (“! e Spirit of the Laws”). Monumental legal acts in Napoleon’s times or the time of German unifi cation, as well as copying these acts into the legal systems of the countries of the Far East, for example, Japan, serve as additional examples on how tempted leaders have been able to implement the idea of “good law”, which, quite frequently, is directly stated in the preamble to leading legal acts.

Always keen on the spectators’ freedom of interpretation, André Bazin’s film theory not only asks the famous question “What is cinema?,” but it also explores what is a human. By underlining the importance of personalist ethics, Angela Dalle Vacche is the first film specialist to identify Bazin’s “anti-anthropocentric” ambition of the cinema in favor of a more compassionate society. Influenced by the personalist philosophy of his mentor, Emmanuel Mounier, Bazin argued that the cinema is a mind-machine that interrogates its audiences on how humankind can engage in an egalitarian fashion towards other humans. According to Bazin, cinema’s ethical interrogation places human spirituality or empathy on top of creativity and logic. Notwithstanding Bazin’s emphasis on ethics, his film theory is rich with metaphors from art and science. The French film critic’s metaphorical writing lyrically frames encounters between literary texts and filmmaking styles, while it illuminates the analogy between the élan vital of biology and cinema’s lifelike ontology. A brilliant analyst of many kinds of films from Europe, Asia, and Latin America, ranging from fiction to documentary, from animation to the avant-garde, Bazin felt that the abstractions of editing were as important as the camera’s fluidity of motion. Furthermore, he disliked films based on a thesis or on an a priori stance that would rule out the risks and surprises of life in motion. Neither a mystic nor an animist, Bazin was a dissident Catholic and a cultural activist without  membership of a specific political party. Eager to dialogue with all kinds of communities, Bazin always disliked institutionalized religions based on dogmas.

Referring to her earlier articles, Anna Krajewska develops her own concept of “entangled theory”. Adopting the principles of operation of elementary particles in quantum physics, referred to as the “entanglement state”, she proposes to see literary studies through anti-binary, performative concepts, which include, above all, anamorphosis. She ties theory in with the process of experiencing art. She proposes to “entangle” seeing in art (the viewer in front of the painting) with the role of seeing in theory (the viewer as practising dramaturgy). In this approach, the theory appears as the theory of entanglement. In this concept, disciplines become dramaturgies.

Ponadto w artykule rozwinięto myśl Krońskiego dotyczącą historii samorządu terytorialnego o wątki politologiczne, wskazując, iż idea samorządności może łączyć się z przeciwstawnymi politycznymi doktrynami. Autor tekstu stanął również na stanowisku, iż teoria Aleksandra Krońskiego, godząc indywidualne uprawnienia ze wspólnotową naturą człowieka, może stanowić inspirację dla współczesnej idei samorządnego państwa.
The main aim of this article is to present the original concept of local goverment, coined by Polish jurist Aleksander Kroński. The Author has analyzed the theses contained in the book Theory of Local Government in the context of legal and philosophical debate concerning the Polish political system during the interwar period. Furthermore, in the paper the Author has developed Kroński’s views on the history of the local government indicating that the idea of self-governance might be plausibly intertwined with various of political doctrines. It was also concluded that due to its expressed stance on the human nature, community and individual rights the above-mentioned theory might be found as inspiring nowadays too.

A certain fragment of the contemporary continental thought, especially French, has found a surprisingly innovative reception in the United States of America, adopting the autonomous form of so called "French Theory". A characteristic feature of this trend are „territorial displacements” occurring within the traditional fields of knowledge and amongstsignificant figures there are the works by Jacques Derrida, as well as the less known works by Michel de Certeau. The intellectual meeting and exchange of thoughts that took place between these two thinkers was focused on the issues of religion writing.

This article discusses Shaftesbury’s fragmentary ‘Dictionary of art terms’, an appendix to the unfinished Plastics, and its relevance in establishing an aesthetic and moral art theory in Britain. The article argues that, although the ‘Dictionary’ is rudimentary, it already reveals enough information to assess it as an important document of English art philosophy. Given that Shaftesbury’s dictionary project was the first English attempt to produce a theoretical art dictionary, it is discussed in the light of traditions of the art dictionary in this country. The study clarifies notions of the dictionary’s art terms through comparative analyses with the use of the words in the aesthetic discourses in the Plastics. It looks at Shaftesbury’s creation of novel words based on classical literature and his use of contemporary literary sources which was partly ambivalent, for fear that only words were transferred from their original context but no ideologies that the author disapproved of. With the help of exemplary discussions of Shaftesbury’s art vocabulary, the study illustrates the shaping of an aesthetic vocabulary in England.

Istnieją dwa poglądy na temat rządzenia. Je den z nich, neoliberalny, dotyczy rynków, o jego głównej sile decyduje racjonalny wybór. Drugi odnosi się do sieci powiązanych z instytucjonalizmem, co stanowi przedmiot zainteresowania nauk politycznych. Celem tej pracy jest wykazanie, że zarówno teoria racjonalnego wyboru, jak i instytucjonalizm opierają się na przypuszczeniach co do naszej zdolności do odczytywania ludzkich zapatrywań za pomocą obiektywnych faktów społecznych. Tym samym przypuszczeń tych nie da się obronić, biorąc pod uwagę filozoficzną krytykę pozytywizmu. Jednak konieczna jest modyfikacja dominujących teorii i kierunków rządzenia. Musimy doprowadzić do ich decentralizacji. W pracy tej zajmuję się badaniem odpowiedzi, których teoria decentryczna mogłaby dostarczyć na pytania takie jak: czy rządzenie to nowe zjawisko? Czy rządzenie stanowi niejasną metaforę? Czy rządzenie ma jednolity charakter? Jak zmienia się rządzenie? I w końcu, czy niepowodzenie w rządzeniu jest nieuniknione?Przedstawiam również konsekwencje dla formowania polityki i demokracji wynikające z teorii decentrycznej.
There are two leading narratives of governance. The first is a neoliberal discourse of markets, inspired by the idea of rational choice. The other is a story of networks, associated with institutionalism in political science. This paper argues that both rational choice and institutionalism rely on assumptions about our ability to deduce people’s beliefs from objective social facts about them, and yet that these assumptions are untenable given the philosophical critique of positivism. Hence, we need to modify our leading theories and narratives of governance. We need to decenter them. The paper explores the distinctive answers a decentered theory of governance would give to questions such as: Is governance new? Is governance a vague metaphor? Is governance uniform? How does governance change? Is governance’s failure inevitable? Finally, the paper explores some of the consequences of a decentered theory regarding our way of thinking about policy formation and democracy.

Purpose: The purpose of this article is to introduce the theoretical conditions related to corporate rebranding issues – in the perspective of marketing theory, management theory and organizational theory, through literature analysis (both Polish and foreign sources – well-known Polish journals and prestigious international journals) from these three areas. Design/methodology/approach: The article is based on a literature review within the field of management and marketing theory, with account being taken of the meaning of the rebranding process in the context of the organizational theory. The article presents models of corporate rebranding and well-structured definitions. Findings: Organizations and their corporate brands that currently operate in a hyper competitive and highly turbulent environment are constantly looking for sources of competitive advantage. Brand creators are trying to give it a unique character and stand out from the others. The brand is therefore assumed to be an entity that directly reaches the hearts and minds of consumers. However, how to maintain this emotion associated with a given brand, how to permanently reach the hearts of consumers who change their tastes and penchants so quickly? This change in the environment and consumer trends often forces evolutions in the entire marketing strategy of the organization as well as in the strategy regarding the brand and/or its architecture. These changes can be both slow and rapid, involving many or just one or more selected elements related to branding (evolutionary and revolutionary rebranding). Research limitations/implications: There are still few publications in the literature describing and explaining the effects of rebranding strategies carried out in various ways, both in the marketing context as well as in the psychological (consumer reactions) and sociological context (consumer trends impact). Neither does this article does explore this research area, which implies further research for authors. Originality/value: The presented research is a new approach to the subject and thus can make an original contribution to the science of brand management. Cel: przedstawienie teoretycznych uwarunkowań związanych z problematyką rebrandingu przedsiębiorstw – w perspektywie teorii marketingu, teorii zarządzania i teorii organizacji, poprzez analizę literatury (studia literaturowe oparto zarówno na źródłach polskich, jak i na zagranicznych – prestiżowe czasopisma międzynarodowe) ze wskazanych trzech obszarów. Metodologia: artykuł jest oparty na przeglądzie literatury z zakresu teorii zarządzania i marketingu oraz z uwzględnieniem znaczenia procesu rebrandingu w kontekście teorii organizacji. W artykule przedstawiono modele korporacyjnego rebrandingu i ustrukturyzowane w formie tabeli definicje. Wyniki: organizacje i ich marki korporacyjne, które obecnie działają w hiperkonkurencyjnym i wysoce burzliwym środowisku, nieustannie poszukują źródeł przewagi konkurencyjnej. Twórcy marki starają się nadać jej niepowtarzalny charakter i wyróżnić się na tle innych. Z założenia marka jest więc bytem, który trafia bezpośrednio do serc i umysłów konsumentów. Jak jednak utrzymać emocje związane z daną marką, jak na stałe trafić do serc konsumentów, którzy tak szybko zmieniają gusta i upodobania? Ta zmiana otoczenia i trendów konsumenckich wymusza często zmiany w całej strategii marketingowej organizacji, a także w strategii dotyczącej marki i/lub jej architektury. Zmiany te mogą być powolne, ale i szybkie, obejmujące wiele lub tylko jeden, lub więcej wybranych elementów związanych z brandingiem (rebranding ewolucyjny i rewolucyjny). Ograniczenia/implikacje badawcze: w literaturze wciąż jest niewiele publikacji opisujących i wyjaśniających skutki strategii rebrandingu realizowanych na różne sposoby tak w kontekście marketingowym, jak i psychologicznym (reakcje konsumenckie) i socjologicznym (wpływ trendów konsumenckich). W niniejszym artykule nie dokonano eksploracji tego obszaru badawczego, co implikuje potrzebę dalszych badań. Theory of cumulative fuel consumption is shown for the first time in [1] and [2]. The theory of cumulative fuel consumption has been presented also in this work. The example of LPG car research results have shown the way of getting to mathematical model of cumulative fuel consumption and the intensity of cumulative fuel consumption. In this case, the studies were carried out 16 cars whose engines were powered by LPG. The vehicles are operated in a small fleet of vehicles, which run in city traffic. Data on outcomes of exploitation and operation fuel consumption is acquired from the accounting documents of the company. Very good results prediction mathematical model of operational data are obtained. The high value of prescience quotients (in this case R-sq > 9.999) are similar to the values that were obtained in various other cases. Conversance of mathematical model of cumulative fuel consumption allows carrying out comprehensive analysis of this significant exploitative parameter. The presented theory must not only be regarded as a theory of cumulative fuel consumption but also can be seen more broadly as a theory of cumulative energy consumption. Research is being conducted on the application of the theory to evaluate energy consumption by hybrid vehicles. The results can be very interesting.

Maj chooses the immersion strategy of reception over the predominant mimetic interpretation, which he sees as incomplete in that it omits the fundamental for allotopy act of world creation. Immersion reflects the idiosyncrasy of creation and genre reception. Moreover, Maj’s book does not fail to address the traditional questions about the value of fantasy fiction.

Most sociological action theories and typologies were not able to establish interdependencies and sequences between different types of action. They also ignored the existential meaning of the choices the typologies implicitly involved. The imaginative dispositions and the ability to critically examine one’s own presuppositions are shown to constitute action as a future-oriented, self-expressing, and interpersonal phenomenon. Both dimensions may be found in the Socratic dialogical attitude but should not be taken as constituting a normative nor even a desirable type of action. The article identifies several limits of dialogue and its relationships with other types of action defined according to the same criteria.

Aleksandr Dugin is sometimes called “Putin’s brain,” and there can be no question that Putin’s global strategy for expanding Russian power has followed quite precisely a strategic plan created, published, and advocated by Dugin beginning in 1996. This aggressive plan of political destabilization, economic hostage-taking, and ultimately militaristic invasions has been defended with a philosophical patchwork called “the Fourth Political Theory.” Dugin claims his “National Bolshevism” can stand alongside communism, fascism, and liberalism as a genuine contender in ontology, the philosophy of history, and political philosophy; and that it is the only theory that stands in genuine opposition to neo-liberalism and corporate capitalism. I show that this view, built from a distortion of Heidegger’s idea of “human-being” as Dasein, is not a coherent philosophy or worldview. I contrast it with personalism, which has always opposed the very aspects of communism, fascism, and liberalism that Dugin opposes, and does so quite effectively and without militarism, expansionism, or the need to take the nation state as some final end of human political development.

Game theory can be viewed as an important contribution to multi-agent modeling, with widespread applications in economics and other social sciences. This paper presents two distinct approaches to extending – sociologizing – classical game theory: firstly, a system/institutional approach – social science game theory (SGT), and secondly, Erving Goffman’s interactionist approach (I-game theory). The two approaches are presented and compared; they are also contrasted with the classical theory. The article ends by concluding that due to the social science game theory, sociologists and social scientists are no longer forced into the classical straightjacket with its hyper-rationality, anomic players, and the absence of any social fabric (institutional and cultural formations). Moreover, the new game theory offers a reliable toolbox of social science concepts and methods for describing, analyzing, and explaining highly diverse interaction phenomena. We claim that those two approaches have already proved themselves useful for investigating and modeling a variety of interaction processes including cooperation, conflict, and negotiation.

Celem opracowania jest wskazanie powiązań między wybranymi socjologicznymi teoriami przestępczości a zarysowanym na ich tle zjawiskiem przestępczości kobiet. Wstępna charakterystyka wskazanej kategorii teorii umożliwia w rezultacie określenie tych aspektów, które na tle ogólnych założeń wyznaczają ich relacje ze szczególną kategorią sprawców: kobiet. Ze względu na dążenie do skonfrontowania poczynionych rozważań teoretycznych z ustaleniami natury empirycznej, w opracowaniu wskazano wybrane kategorie przestępstw popełnionych przez kobiety w Polsce w okresie obowiązywania kodeksu karnego z 1997 r. Takie ujęcie pozwala na ustalenie, czy założenia analizowanych koncepcji teoretycznych znalazły potwierdzenie w przedstawionych badaniach, a także czy konieczne jest ich ewentualne przemodelowanie. Ponadto zasadniczym założeniem pracy jest także wykazanie, czy jednoczynnikowe teorie przestępczości w konfrontacji ze zjawiskiem przestępczości kobiet są w stanie kompleksowo określić jego istotę, czy też niezbędne jest sięgnięcie do teorii złożonych, by w pełni zrozumieć analizowany problem. Struktura opracowania wpłynęła na zastosowanie dwóch metod badawczych: dogmatycznej oraz empirycznej.
The aim of the study is to indicate the links between selected sociological theories of crime and the phenomenon of women’s crime. The initial characteristics of the indicated category of theories makes it possible to define further those aspects which, in the context of general assumptions, determine their relations with a particular category of perpetrators: women. In attempt to confront theoretical considerations with the findings of empirical nature, the study indicates selected categories of crimes committed by women in Poland when the Criminal Code of 1997 was in force. Such an approach allows the final determination whether the assumptions of the analysed theoretical concepts have been confirmed by the presented research, or whether their potential remodelling is necessary. The structure of the study has determined the application of two research methods: dogmatic and empirical.

This article outlines and updates a formal, hierarchical theory of relational competence about socialization in intimate relationships, comprising: (1) three requirements: verifiability, applicability, and redundancy; (2) three meta-theoretical assumptions about the Width and Depth of relationships in Settings where relational competence is socialized; (3) three theoretical assumptions about abilities to love and to control through Presence Performance, and Production; (4) five models which include identity differentiation, styles, interactions, selfhood, and priorities; and (5) four applied models derived from meta-theoretical and theoretical assumptions: distance regulation,  pathogenic roles, intimacy, and negotiation. Empirical verification of these models has occurred through self-report paper-and-pencil instruments in the laboratory, through enrichment programs in primary prevention, targeted written practice exercises in secondary prevention, and prescribed tasks in tertiary prevention or psychotherapy.

Generally, an economic crisis is a complicated sequence of mutually related circumstances which have causes and effects. The financial crisis which had appeared in the USA in 2008 converted itself into the largest economic crisis and spread to most of developed states. The goal of the paper is examination of effects of the financial crisis and undertaken anti-crisis activities, exemplified by the Federal Republic of Germany and based on the theory of the Keynes and the theory of monetarism. The author tries to prove that the measures undertook by the Germans to overcome the crisis were different from the measures undertook in the United States of America and moreover, that they were more effective.

In this essay, I explore Cassirer’s brief discussion of utopia in An Essay on Man, as likely built upon Kant’s theory of genius as from the Critique of Judgment. This exploration of Cassirer’s theory of utopia lays the groundwork to argue that a utopia is the dynamic product (work) of the “ethical genius,” a work that advances culture by luring it, via ideal imaginaries, to new realms of possibility for ethical advancement. Utopias have their dangers and limits, but nevertheless have a critical role to play in improving our ethical life.

Artykuł skupia się na analizie definicji wartości w ogóle, kryteriach klasyfikacji stosowanych w ramach teorii wartości, a także zagadnieniu wartości ekonomicznych. Na niektórych etapach swojego rozwoju teoria ekonomii nadawała pojęciu wartości znaczenie kluczowe, obecnie natomiast stało się ono nieco drugorzędnym zagadnieniem, ustępując miejsca problemom sfery realnej. Teoria wartości jest z kolei zagadnieniem niosącym w sobie dużo wieloznaczności, co nie jest atutem we współczesnym jednoznacznym i technologicznym świecie.
The main subject of the article is the definition of theory of value, the criteria used within this theory in describing the types of value, and finally the economic values as a distinct part of the whole theory. The history of economic thought awarded the theory of value with a privileged position, but those times have passed and now the problems of economy and real life seem to be more important. Moreover, the theory of value is very ambiguous, what additionally makes it nearly impossible to become core issue of modern economics.

Artykuł podejmuje problem założeń libertariańskiej teorii sprawiedliwości w zakresie teorii praw podmiotowych. Tekst stawia tezę, iż libertarianizm presuponuje Teorię Woli w analizie uprawnień. Argumentacja stawianej tezy przebiega na sześciu płaszczyznach: (1) libertariańskiego pojęcia praw własności prywatnej; (2) identyfikowanej przez libertarianizm funkcji praw własności prywatnej; (3) libertariańskiego uzasadnienia praw własności prywatnej; (4) wąskiego charakteru libertariańskiej teorii politycznej; (5) libertariańskich zasad sprawiedliwej dystrybucji praw własności prywatnej; (6) libertariańskiego modelu ładu politycznego. Artykuł wskazuje, iż poza tym, że Teoria Woli dostarcza analitycznego wyjaśnienia libertariańskiej teorii sprawiedliwości na wszystkich tych płaszczyznach, jej konkurentka, czyli Teoria Interesu, nie jest w stanie wygenerować takiej artykulacji bez szeregu arbitralnych założeń ad hoc i dlatego pozostaje niekompatybilna z libertarianizmem.
The present paper raises a question about what analytical theory of rights is entailed by the libertarian theory of justice. The paper hypothesises that libertarianism presupposes or at least endorses the Will Theory of rights. This thesis is then discussed with reference to the following key points: (1) libertarian concept of private property rights; (2) function of libertarian private property rights; (3) justification of libertarian private property rights; (4) thin character of libertarian theory; (5) libertarian principles of just distribution of property rights; (6) libertarian vision of political order. It is demonstrated that the Will Theory of rights allows for the adequate analytic explanation of the libertarian theory of justice on all counts. Besides, it is argued that the competitive theory of rights, namely the Interest Theory is unable to provide libertarianism with such an explanation without help of substantive and ad hoc assumptions.

This article is intended for philosophers and logicians as a short partial introduction to category theory (CT) and its peculiar connection with logic. First, we consider CT itself. We give a brief insight into its history, introduce some basic definitions and present examples. In the second part, we focus on categorical topos semantics for propositional logic. We give some properties of logic in toposes, which, in general, is an intuitionistic logic. We next present two families of toposes whose tautologies are identical with those of classical propositional logic. The relatively extensive bibliography is given in order to support further studies.

The páper provides a critical inlerpretation of too broad, nontermological and trendy use of discourse in the linguistics and stylistics. The author emphasizes that the concept of discourse cannot replace and displace the notion of style because they are completely different concepts. The páper maintains that it is in the best interest of both, discourse theory and the theory o f style, to determinate the elear dislinction between these two terms.

The purpose of this thesis is to analyze the influence of Multiple Intelligences Theory on the process of acquiring a foreign language. MI theory developed by Howard Gardner (1983), says that every single individual possesses eight different types of intelligences: Linguistic, Logical-Mathematical, Musical, Spatial, Bodily-Kinesthetic, Interpersonal, Intrapersonal, and Naturalist. It stands in opposition to the belief that intelligence is an innate entity which we inherit or we are born with. Nevertheless, not everybody has eight very well-developed intelligences, some may be dominant or underdeveloped. Moreover, Gardner claims that all these types of intelligence may be improved. As a result, learners of English language are able to know themselves better and find appropriate milieu in which they would feel comfortable and safe. Different intelligence capacities provide various ways of knowing, acquiring, understanding, and learning about the surrounding world. Hence, teaching with the knowledge concerning students’ dominant intelligences is perceived as fruitful and lucrative because then educators may nurture their intelligences.

When we assume that a survey reveals respondents’ true attitudes we tacitly assume that the subjects understood what we are asking them about and that they had no incentive to be untruthful. In typical studies none of the two assumptions holds. Subjects are asked questions that use undefined terms and they are asked about issues they have no incentive to answer truthfully. Here we argue that a way to solve the two problems lies in constructing a formal theory of an attitude in such a way that an attitude can be derived from the answers yet when answering the questions subjects cannot possibly know that their responses reveal anything about their attitude and, hence, they have no incentive to answer insincerely.We briefly discuss a study that has the desirable properties necessary for the proper design.

Axel Honneth has called for a change of focus in Critical Theory "from the self-generated independence of systems to the damage and distortion of social relations of recognition." I argue that Honneth does not shift his methodological focus sufficiently to succeed in his goal of illuminating the social relations of recognition. Despite Honneth's shift to relations of recognition, he considers these relations in terms of the macrosocial Hegelian triad of social spheres of recognition. A deeper analysis of recognition behaviors shows they cannot be mapped exactly to these spheres. I conclude that the Hegelian triad of social spheres is an insufficient basis for an exploration of misrecognition behaviors. To understand misrecognition, we need to seek a picture of misrecognition that reflects the complex diversity of individuals' lived experiences and practices, gives sufficient attention to interpersonal recognition and misrecognition, and offers potential reasons for why individuals might engage in misrecognition behaviors.

Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to examine the signaling theory of dividend policy in companies that are listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange. Design/methodology/approach: Based on the literature review of signaling theory in dividend policy, the research hypothesis was stated: There is no relationship between future earnings and current dividend payments in the financial statements of Warsaw listed companies during the studied period 2010-2021. Accordingly, an empirical model was built which consisted of an explanatory variable (dividend in subsequent years) and explanatory variables (earnings in subsequent years). In addition, a research questionnaire was conducted for individual investors who have been investing in the Warsaw Stock Exchange for more than one year. Findings: The estimation results of the econometric model confirmed that there is no relationship between the dividend paid and the profit of a given company. On the other hand, the survey results indicated that dividend policy is an important element in the decision-making process of individual investors in the stock market. Originality/value: The research in the paper is complementary in nature - the signaling theory in dividend policy was examined in a multifaceted manner - econometric testing of the model and qualitative research in the form of a survey among 100 investors.

This is a non-standard paper, containing some problems in set theory I have in various degrees been interested in. Sometimes with a discussion on what I have to say; sometimes, of what makes them interesting to me, sometimes the problems are presented with a discussion of how I have tried to solve them, and sometimes with failed tries, anecdotes and opinions. So the discussion is quite personal, in other words, egocentric and somewhat accidental. As we discuss many problems, history and side references are erratic, usually kept to a minimum ("see ..." means: see the references there and possibly the paper itself). The base were lectures in Rutgers, Fall '97, and reflect my knowledge then. The other half, [122], concentrating on model theory, will subsequently appear. Zmysłowe doświadczenie filmu De humani corporis fabrica (reż. Lucien Castaing-Taylor, Véréna Paravel, 2022), przedstawiającego nagrania prawdziwych chirurgicznych interwencji w ludzkie ciało, naświetla aporię tkwiącą głęboko w samej kategorii realizmu: im obraz wierniejszy rzeczywistości, którą ma portretować, tym mniej czytelny i zrozumiały się staje, zawodząc jako wiarygodna reprezentacja. Kontekst zmysłowej teorii filmu naświetla ten paradoks, proponując różne ujęcia relacji między skonstruowanym charakterem filmu a namacalnością jego bezpośredniego, wydawałoby się, doświadczenia. Usytuowany wobec pism współczesnych teoretyczek film jawi się jako zmysłowe ćwiczenie spojrzenia – umożliwiające nowe ustawienie zarówno widza, jak i obrazu – a także jako wskrzeszenie pamięci o cudowności wynalazku filmu, jeszcze z czasów, zanim powstało kino jako przestrzeń jego doświadczania. Odniesienie do historii medium nakierowuje także na możliwość uhistorycznienia refleksji zmysłowej, pozwalającą wydobyć, w jaki sposób cielesność, realizm i zmysłowość problematyzowali wybrani teoretycy XX-wieczni.
The sensual experience of the film De humani corporis fabrica (dir. Lucien Castaing-Taylor, Véréna Paravel, 2022), comprised of recordings of real surgical interventions into the human body, highlights an aporia deeply rooted in the very category of realism: the more an image is faithful to the reality it is supposed to portray, the less comprehensible and readily understandable it becomes, ultimately failing as a credible representation. The context of sensuous film theory casts some light on this paradox by proposing various approaches to the relationship between the film’s constructed character and the tangibility of its seemingly direct experience. Situated within the context of the writings of contemporary theorists, the film appears as a sensual exercise of the gaze that enables a new positioning of both the viewer and the image, but also as a revival of the memory of the miraculous invention of the film – even from before cinema was created as a space for its experience. The reference to the history of the medium also encourages historicizing the sensual reflection, so as to reveal how corporeality, realism, and sensuality were conceptualized by selected 20th-century theorists.

Scientific methods that are part of knowledge – it is whole arsenal of accumulated research methods and stage of scientific activity (techniques, methods) used in the process of scientific activity in this particular cycle. In particular, problems and hypotheses is scientific knowledge also, but they are more significant than stages of scientific activity. Scientific activity – intellectual creative activity aimed at obtaining and use of new knowledge. It comprises the steps of obtaining scientific production: 1) formulation (appearance) of the problem; 2) construction of hypotheses and using those that already exist; 3) creation and implementation of new methods of research aimed at proving the hypotheses; 4) summary the results of scientific activity. It is necessary to mean that the main product that meets the objectives and problems which are resolved, science gets only at the end of the cycle in the form of laws and theories. In the intermediate stages the science gets a by-product a part of which is used in the same cycle, and part goes to replenish the knowledge and the formation of new cycles. Scientific activity exists in various forms, such as: scientific and research activity; scientific and organizational activity; scientific and educational activity; scientific and information activity; scientific and support activity, etc. (Розвиток науки…).

The research analyses dividend initiations and the reasons why firms begin paying regular cash dividend to shareholders in the context of signaling theory, agency theory, and life cycle theory. The research was conducted on the population of non-financial companies initiating dividends payments in the years 2009–2013 and listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange at least 3 years before the event. Due to such assumptions, a small number of the population (27 firms) was obtained, which affects a limitation of the study. The study does not show statistically significant results of the analysis, therefore, we are not able to indicate the reasons why Polish nonfinancial firms did begin regular cash dividends in the years 2009–2013. We assume the necessity of further research in this area.
Główny problem badawczy postawiony w opracowaniu dotyczył przyczyn inicjowania przez spółki wypłat dywidend. Analizy prowadzono w kontekście teorii sygnalizacji, teorii agencji i teorii cyklu życia. Badanie przeprowadzono na populacji niefinansowych spółek inicjujących wypłaty dywidend w latach 2009–2013 i notowanych na GPW w Warszawie co najmniej przez 3 lata przed zdarzeniem. W związku z tak przyjętymi założeniami uzyskano populację 27 spółek – niewielka liczebność stanowi o ograniczeniach badania. Z uwagi na brak potwierdzenia statystycznej istotności przeprowadzonych analiz uznano, że nie ma podstaw do wyciągnięcia jednoznacznych wniosków dotyczących przyczyn inicjowania wypłat dywidend, uznając, iż są konieczne dalsze badania w tym obszarze.

The energy, current density and momentum probability densities of superconductors were studied from London, Ginzburg-Landau and BSC theories by treating cooper pair as a particle moving in a magnetic field through analytical and numerical techniques. The London and GL solution were exactly the same at the classical limit for NbN. Considering a Cooper pair as a complete classical particle, the momentum probability density was derived by using the Maxwell velocity distribution and the quantum mechanical momentum probability density was derived by using the radial wave function of the cooper pairs for Zn. The quantum mechanical and classical momentum probability densities overlap at zero momentum.

The aim of the article is to review and benchmark the current concepts in the psychology of human successful aging. The diverse nature of the process of aging underlies the distinction between normal, pathological and successful aging. Psychological concepts of successful aging in humans adopt common assumption that it is possible to take certain actions substantiating optimal course of this process. At the same time a summary of approaches appropriate to particular concepts allows for their classification, which results in the separation of three specific groups of them. Their specificity may be expressed by the following terms: "lifestyle", "description" and "mechanism". This article includes characteristics of emerged groups of concepts and indicates the extent of their usefulness and limitations.

In recent years, the studies on the Theory of Mind have gained a wide interest. The authors of these studies try to determine the influence of various factors on the development of the competency (i.e. Theory of Mind) among children. Among the variables taken into consideration, there are disability or developmental deficits. Especially popular are studies on children with autism. Already in the 90s it was noticed, that the lack of hearing can be one of the factors which makes it harder to master the competencies of the Theory of Mind framework. Deaf children achieve mentalizing capabilities 3-4 years later compared to their peers who can hear. The current article is a review of the literature concerning the specificity of the Theory of Mind development among deaf children. The difference in the linguistic and social experiences of the children brought up in families where the parents can and cannot hear is described. It seems that the social interactions deficits are the ones responsible for the more difficult process of gaining the Theory of Mind among deaf children.
