Recently, the intensifying development of shale drilling has contributed to the more numerous realization of directional and horizontal boreholes. Moreover, such boreholes are more advantageous as they provide about 4 times higher production than in their vertical counterparts, give access to poorly drained areas, or production of already developed reservoir, where only a new borehole has to be introduced to the network. It should be stressed that the sealing of the casing columns is a challenge because of the restrictions set before drilling fluids used for sealing horizontal boreholes. Slurries play a special role while sealing horizontal boreholes and therefore their technological parameters and density should be adjusted to the geological-reservoir conditions. At the stage of designing slurries for sealing horizontal boreholes, the most important parameters are: sedimentation stability, zero water settling water settling and low filtration. Meeting these requirements was possible by selecting proper admixtures and additives, which in turn, is a guarantee of the uniform and homogeneous structure of fresh and hardened cement slurry. Thus formed cement sheath of bounded slurry should be impervious to gas and have good mechanical properties over the length of the sealing without any trends of anisotropy of the medium in particular points. Modification and designing specialist recipes for definite technological conditions lie, among others, in choosing proper slurry additives and admixtures. However, obtaining appropriate parameters for given conditions may be connected with a change of other parameters deciding about the efficiency of the sealing of a given horizon. Therefore while working out a new recipe for a slurry, the designer should account for the analytical results and influence of the applied agents on all of the parameters of slurry. This is the subject matter of the paper.

Opis:
Effects of temperature and glycerol concentration on rheological properties of potato starch solutions were investi- gated. The flow behaviour (shear stress against shear rate) was fitted to various models: power law, Herschel-Bulkley, Bingham, modified Bingham and Casson models. However, it was found that the Herschel-Bulkley model describes better the flow behaviour observed at various temperatures and glycerol concentrations, for flow behaviour index values between 0.44 and 0.78, typical of pseudoplastic solutions. The effect of glycerol concentration on each of the fitting parameters for Herschel-Bulkley model was well modelled by a second-degree polynomial at various temperatures. The simultaneous influence of glycerol concentration and tempe- rature on shear stress could be represented empirically by a second- degree polynomial function that includes linear coupling between concentration and temperature. Finally, the variation of the con- sistency coefficient with both temperature and glycerol concentra- tion was well described by an exponential expression, with an acti- vation energy value of 2.78 kJ mol -1 . The results indicate that both glycerol content and temperature have the effect of diluting potato starch solutions.

The effect of chitosan concentration on the properties of dermatological preparations prepared with 2% methylcellulose and 10% polyvinylpyrrolidone was studied. As the levels of chitosan, propylene glycol-1,2 and glycerol increased, the hardness, consistency and cohesiveness of the hydrophilic gels increased, while the dissipation capacity decreased. Gels based on methylcellulose and chitosan, compared to formulations containing polyvinylpyrrolidone, have a higher rate of loss of volatile compounds, higher pH values for 1,2-propylene glycol formulation and higher texture parameters. The tested hydrogels have good rheological properties, allowing extrusion from the tube and spreading on the skin.

The rheological behaviour of beetroot juice as a function of soluble solid content (from 10oBx to 50oBx) at a wide range of temperatures (from 10oC to 60 oC) was studied. The measurements were made using rotational rheometer (Brookfield Engineering Laboratories: model LVDV-II+ PRO). The investigation showed that the beetroot juice was Newtonian in behaviour and the viscosity was changed from 0.77 mPa s to 28.4 mPa s. The Arrhenius-Guzman equation was used to calculate the values of flow activation energy. In order to evaluate the influence of soluble solid content two models were applied: the power law and exponential equation. A new equation was proposed to express the combined effect of temperature and concentration on beetroot juice viscosity.

Opis:
The aim of the study presented was to experimentally analyze an effect of the nutrient type and its concentration on the variability of rheological properties of the baker’s yeast suspensions for different time periods. Aqueous suspensions of the baker’s yeast of various concentration (solution I, without nutrient) and yeasts suspended in aqueous solution of sucrose or honey as nutrients with different concentration (solution II or solution III) were tested. Experiments were carried out using rotational rheoviscometer of type RT10 by a company HAAKE. The measurements were conducted for different time periods (from 1 h up to 144 h) at given fluid temperature. On the basis of the obtained data, rheological characteristics of the aqueous solution of baker’s yeast suspensions without and with nutrients of different sucrose or honey concentration were identified and mathematically described.

The aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of methylcellulose and carboxymethylcellulose on the rheological properties of hydrogels applied to skin on chitosan in the presence of the additives propylene glycol and glycerol. Rheological studies showed that the tested gels are non-newtonian systems, and have thixotropic properties. Substrates made of methylcellulose and chitosan are characterised by higher shear values than those obtained with carboxymethylcellulose. The addition of polymers had a positive influence on the dispersion of hydrogels, and the addition of excipients increased firmness, consistency and cohesiveness of the gels. Larger increases were observed with the addition of 10% of glycol propylene and glycerol contents for methylcellulose and of 20% of carboxymethylcellulose.

Depending on the composition of the substrate, gels are characterised by a variety of pharmaceutical availabilities. This study examined the effects rheological properties of different composition kaolin and kaolin geo-filler in polypropylene composites. Polypropylene composites with varying composition of kaolin geo-filler 0 wt%, 2 wt%, 4 wt%, 6 wt%, 8 wt%, and 10 wt% was prepared and compared with polypropylene composite with raw kaolin. Kaolin is an aluminosilicate based mineral filler was used to prepare geopolymer paste by combining with alkaline activator solution. The polypropylene composite was compounded using a twin-screw extruder and the melt flow index was determined by a constant weight pressure of 2.16 kg at 230°C in 10 min. Knowing the melt flow index is necessary to predict and control the process, the study has demonstrated that the composition of kaolin filler and kaolin geo-filler affects the melt flow, melt density and surface morphology at varies composition. Composites with kaolin geo-filler have demonstrated high melt flow index process and having better distribution and flow.

Opis:
Samples of excess sludge from wastewater treatment plants were investigated in order to determine the dependence of rheological parameters of sewage sludge on lime addition. Hydration of the sludge is one of its main features which determine sludge management and waste disposal cost. The rheological behavior of sludge is a key characteristic, since it determines the treatment processes. This research has evaluated the use of rheological properties for characterization and control of sludge and lime mixture flow behaviour. A laboratory investigation was conducted using rotating coaxial cylinder and several different gravimetric oncentrations of the investigated sludge. In order to describe the rheological characteristics, the 3-parameter Herschel-Bulkley model was applied. Rheological characterization is of great importance in sludge management, both in terms of biomass dewatering and stabilizing properties, and in terms of design parameters for sludge handling operations.

The rheological properties of ε-2,4,6,8,10,12-hexanitro-2,4,6,8,10,12hexaazaisowurtzitane (CL-20)/hydroxy-terminated polybutadiene (HTPB) casting explosives with different formulations were tested and analyzed. The effects of both the weight percentage (wt.%) of CL-20 and its particle size, as well as the type and content of plasticizers, on the rheological properties of CL-20/HTPB casting explosives were investigated in detail. The results show that the viscosity and pseudoplasticity of CL-20/HTPB casting explosives increase with increasing wt.% of CL-20 and decreasing particle size. The gradation of CL-20 particle size also affects the rheological properties of the casting explosives. When the mixing ratio of 30 μm to 2 μm particles is 3:1, the viscosity reaches its lowest value and the non-Newtonian index reaches the maximum value of 0.5698. The viscosity, non-Newtonian index and impact sensitivity of the samples studied are clearly decreased by the addition of dioctyl adipate (DOA), dioctyl sebacate (DOS) or dibutyl phthalate (DBP). However, the three plasticizers do not appear to affect the thermal decomposition of CL-20/HTPB casting explosives. With respect to the rheological properties, mechanical properties and sensitivity, DOA is the optimum plasticizer to use in CL-20/HTPB casting explosives.

In this paper, ionic gelation method was adopted to produce nanocapsules (CNs) encapsulated tuberose fragrance with chitosan (CS) and sodium tripolyphosphate (TPP) as wall materials. The effects of CS/TPP mass ratio, pH value of CS solution, molecular mass of CS and tuberose fragrance (TF) concentration on particle size and particle size distribution (PDI) of chitosan nanocapsules encapsulated tuberose fragrance (CNTs) were investigated systematically. CNTs were characterized by dynamic light scattering (DLS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transforms infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The results showed that CNTs were successfully prepared. The optimum preparation conditions were as follows: CS/TPP mass ratio 5:1, pH of CS solution 4.0, and molecular mass of CS 150 kda. CNTs emulsions were also systematically investigated by steady-state shear and oscillatory shear measurements respectively. The rheological behaviors of CNTs were obtained.

The main objective of this study was to conduct an analysis of the rheological properties of StelliteTM 21 alloy in the semi-solid state, as the results could be used for identifying the appropriate temperature range for thixoforming of this alloy, and a secondary objective of the experimental work was the development of mathematical model of the alloy’s apparent viscosity. Such viscosity models are necessary for numerical simulations of the thixoforming processes. The StelliteTM 21 alloy exhibits high hardness and thus shaping in the semi-solid state is promising route of production of parts from this alloy. Within the confines of experimental work the measurement methods of the rheological properties at high temperatures was developed. They are based on the use of specially designed viscometer equipped with high temperature furnace.

The aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of changing the concentrations of chitosan on the rheological properties of the obtained formulation. Hydrogels were prepared with 1% hydrocortisone containing 4% sodium carboxymethylcellulose with the addition of chitosan, propylene glycol-1,2 or polyethylene glycol 400 and glycerol or paraffin. The concentration of chitosan and excipients affects the rheological properties of gels and the pharmaceutical availability of hydrocortisone. Increasing the concentration of chitosan have influence on increasing the viscosity, hardness, and cohesiveness of the tested gels.

The effects of pyrite and diaspore with different particle sizes on the rheological properties of pulp with butyl xanthate added as a collector were studied, and the mechanism for rheological pyrite separation from diaspore by flotation was probed. The apparent viscosity of the diaspore pulp with different particle sizes was higher than that of pyrite, especially for -30 μm diaspore. Microfine diaspore was an important component affecting the apparent viscosity and yield stress of the diaspore-pyrite mixed pulp, and the pulp became a non-Newtonian fluid when the mass fraction of fine-grained diaspore in the mixed pulp was high. In this study, sodium hexametaphosphate (SHMP) was used to control the rheology of the mixed pulp and improve the pyrite flotation, and the S (sulfur) recovery rate first increased and then decreased with increasing SHMP concentration. The apparent viscosity of the pulp decreased by 3.01% and the S recovery rate increased by 34.83% when the amount of added SHMP was 0.05 mg/kg. The apparent viscosity with 0.50 mg/kg SHMP was 21.76% lower than that seen with the addition of 0.05 mg/kg SHMP, but the S recovery rate was also reduced by 14.94%. Further research showed that the increased SHMP concentration led to increases in the electronegativities of the particle surface and the repulsive force between particles, which prevented agglomeration of the particles, reduced the apparent viscosity and yield stress of the mixed pulp, promoted collisions between the pyrite particles and the bubbles, and reduced the resistance of the air bubbles to flotation.

The possibility of use of the Magneto-Rheological Fluids (MRFs) in armours, particularly in bullet-proof vests, is presented in this paper. The requirements for the MRFs to be applied for this specific use, the factors which influence on their properties and the behaviour of the MRFs under a magnetic field are described. The comparison of three LORD MRFs with different mass concentration of the ferromagnetic particles: 72%, 80.98% and 85.44% is made. Based on the behaviour of the Shear Thickening Fluids (STFs) one of these MRFs has been chosen as the best for the bullet-proof vests, and the ways of its application are proposed. As the source of the magnetic field it has been selected a solenoid supplied by the Li-Po battery.
W pracy zaprezentowano możliwości wykorzystania cieczy magnetoreologicznych (MRF) w pancerzach, szczególnie w kamizelkach kuloodpornych. Przedstawione zostały wymagania stawiane cieczom magnetoreologicznym do zastosowania ich w kamizelkach kuloodpornych, a także czynniki wpływające na właściwości cieczy magnetoreologicznej oraz opisano jej zachowanie pod wpływem pola magnetycznego. Zostały porównane trzy ciecze LORD o różnych stężeniach wagowych cząsteczek magnetycznych: 72%, 80,98% i 85,44%. Na podstawie aplikacji cieczy zagęszczają- cych się pod wpływem dużych szybkości ścinania (STF) wybrano jedną z cieczy magnetoreologicznych, która najbardziej nadaje się do stosowania w kamizelkach kuloodpornych i zaproponowano sposoby jej aplikacji. Scientific problems considered in this paper presenting the achievements are mainly focused on comparisons of tribological processes, which occur during flow of biological fluids around joint cartilage cells during lubrication of human joint surfaces as well as surfaces of micro- and nano-bearings used in micro-mechanisms. The tissue growth presented in this paper is the process of change of mass of a biological system defined by genetic (congenital) factors and dependent on epigenetic (environmental) factors (temperature, mechanical stress and strain, internal and external physical fields, etc.). This paper shows effects of influence of congenial growth and genetic code of bio-bearing or bio-joints material on the lubricant viscosity and lubricant process. In living tissues there is a growth strain defined by genetic code and depending on many other factors (such as temperature, force factors, chemical substances, etc.). A general theory of materials with memory is the theory of simple fluid developed by Noll and Koleman. The simple fluid theory described in this paper is based on the assumption that stress is defined by a whole deformation history.

Zaprezentowano sposób wyznaczania współczynników kC(δ) i kT(δ) określających zmiany własności sprężystych i lepkich masy formierskiej. Znajomość tych współczynników stanowi podstawę do zastosowania modelu reologicznego do badań symulacyjnych procesu impulsowego zagęszczania mas formierskich. Zależności kC(δ) i kT(δ) można określić na podstawie wyników badań eksperymentalnych. W tym celu niezbędne jest wykonanie pomiarów prędkości VL rozchodzenia się fali ultradźwiękowej w badanej masie formierskiej w funkcji stopnia jej zagęszczenia δ.
The way of determining the coefficients of kC(δ) and kT(δ) determining changes in elastic and viscous properties of foundry sands has been presented. Knowledge of these co-factors provides the basis for the application of the rheological model to simulation studies of impulse compacting of molding. Coefficients kC(δ) and kT(δ) can be determined on the basis of results of experimental research. For this purpose it is necessary to measure speed of spreading the ultrasonic wave in the test weight as a function of the density degree δ.

Opis:
The influence of styrene butadiene rubber (SBR) or low-density polyethylene (LDPE) polymers on the characteristics of local asphalt binder was analyzed to characterize the rheological properties. The results indicated that the SBR or LDPE increased the softening point. The softening point was enhanced by around 35% when 9% of SBR was used in comparison to the unmodified asphalt, while there was a 15% increment when LDPE was used. The results also indicated that the SBR or LDPE decreased the penetration rate. The penetration decreases by around 36% when 9% of SBR is used compared to the neat asphalt, while a significant increment was 89% when 9% of LDPE is used. Additionally, when 9% SBR was employed, the ductility of the asphalt binder rose by roughly 73%, but 64% less ductility was seen when 9% LDPE was utilized. Finally, the addition of the additive has improved the penetration index, thus reducing the temperature sensitivity. Due to said above, SBR and LDPE are practical and promising modifiers that will be useful in enhancing the performance of the asphalt binder straightforwardly and efficiently.

Prawidłowe zacementowanie kolumn rur okładzinowych w otworze wiertniczym uwarunkowane jest między innymi optymalnym zaprojektowaniem hydrauliki przepływu zaczynu uszczelniającego w systemie cyrkulacyjnym. W tym celu konieczne jest określenie parametrów reologicznych zaczynu oraz dopasowanie modelu reologicznego, który najlepiej przedstawia charakterystykę reologiczną uzyskanej mieszaniny. Zarówno rodzaj użytego cementu, jak i ilość dodanej wody zarobowej wpływa na zmianę właściwości fizykochemicznych, co wiąże się z koniecznością określenia dla każdego ilorazu w/c modelu reologicznego i wielkości dla niego charakterystycznych. W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badań laboratoryjnych pomiarów parametrów reologicznych czterech popularnie używanych cementów w technologii wiertniczej oraz dopasowano do uzyskanych wartości pomiarowych modele reologiczne wraz z podaniem wartości opisujących stopień dopasowania modelu.
Right and optimality design hydraulic of flow cement slurry has influence on good grouting drill casing in wellbore. For this purpose is necessary definite rheological parameter cement slurry and checking in rheological fluid model, which best represented characteristic this composition. Type of used cement and quantity water of concrete mix effected on physic-chemical property and command for each case water-cement ratio rheological model and his mathematic parameter. In paper presentation result laboratory studies measurement rheological parameter four popular used cement in technology of drill casing grouting and command for each rheological model and mathematic value for him.

This paper presents the numerical results of a numerical analysis of drilling fluid flow through annular space in the borehole. The analysis used the Herschel–Bulkley rheological fluid model. The obtained results of the analysis for three cases with variable geometry. Variable geometry is associated with a larger diameter drill in the joints of drill pipes, and consequently, with reduced flow cross-section. A comparison of pressure values at the end of the analyzed examples showed that in the example of a simple drill pipe without joints, pressure values were 30% higher than in the case, which takes into account changes in the geometry of the joints.

The paper deals with the problem of parametric identification of phenomenological models of a MR damper. The rheological structures of the MR damper described by two fundamentals parametric models that are due to Bingham and Spencer are reviewed. The problem of identification is considered, exemplary results of MR damper experimental tests and an adjustment procedure of the estimated parameters with respect to experimental data are discussed. A linear MR damper of RD-1005 series developed by Lord Corporation has been tested and modelled.
W artykule przedstawiono problem identyfikacji parametrycznej modeli fenomenologicznych liniowego tłumika magnetoreologicznego (MR). Rozważono struktury reologiczne tłumika MR opisane modelami Binghama i Spencera. Sformułowano zadanie identyfikacji, pokazano przykładowe wyniki badań doświadczalnych tłumika oraz procedurę doboru estymowanych współczynników modeli odpowiadających danym uzyskanym z eksperymentu identyfikacyjnego. Obiektem badań był małogabarytowy tłumik MR typu RD-1005 wyprodukowany przez firmę Lord Corporation.

W pracy przedstawiono analizę reologiczną osadu z oczyszczalni z okolic Krakowa. Badane osady należą do płynów nienewtonowskich, lepkoplastycznych, niebinghamowskich, posiadających granicę płynięcia. Wielkość granicy płynięcia osadów rośnie wraz ze wzrostem zawartości związków organicznych. Do opisu Teologicznych właściwości najlepszy okazał się matematyczny model Herschela-Bulkley’a, średnia wartość współczynnika korelacji wyniosła 0,993. Stała konsystencji malała ze wzrostem wartości wskaźnika płynięcia płynu.
The paper deals with rheological analysis of sludge from the waste water treatment plant situated near Cracow. Sewage sludge belongs to non-Newtonian, viscoplastic, non-Bingham fluid. The yield point value increases with the concentration of organic compounds in the sludge (expressed as organic dry solids). The Herschel-Bulkley model turned out to be the best to describe Theological properties. The average correlation coefficient was equal to 0.993. The fluid consistency index decreases with the increase of flow behaviour index.

To study creep characteristics of deep rock masses under low-frequency earthquakes and other loads, sandstone and marble samples were used to characterize soft rock and hard rock, respectively. Shear creep tests of anchored rock masses under fatigue loading were carried out by using the graded loading method. A new nonlinear rheological model was constructed to characterize mechanical properties of anchored rock masses under fatigue loading. Creep fatigue curves of soft rock and hard rock have clear creep characteristics including instantaneous, attenuation, steady-state and accelerated creep stages. This work provides new insights into the stability of rock masses.

Conditions of some casting processes cause flow of both liquid and semi-liquid metal alloys inside the die cavity. Generally, the continuous casting, squeeze casting or thixoforming could be classified as such processes. Design or optimisation of casting technology using numerical simulations requires knowledge of the rheological properties. The main objective of the experimental work, presented in this publication, is an analysis of the viscosity of 1.2080 (X210Cr12) high carbon steel in liquid and semisolid state. The secondary purpose of the experimental work was a development of the viscosity models used in continuous casting and thixoforming simulations. The significant achievement of this particular study was identification of thixotropy phenomenon which occurs not only during thixoforming, but also during magnetohydrodynamic stirring in continuous casting processes.

The aim of this study was to determine differences in the technological quality of grain of hybrids between spelt (Triticum spelta) and bread wheat (T. aestivum) as compared with the grain of their parental forms, i.e., modern bread wheat cultivars and spelt breeding lines. The content of basic nutrients in grain, milling quality of grain, rheological properties of dough, and bread quality were evaluated. Grain yields were around 18% lower in hybrid lines than in bread wheat. Gluten content was significantly higher in the grain of hybrid lines (34.0 vs. 27.5 g/100 g), and it did not differ significantly from that noted in spelt grain (36.1 g/100 g). The gluten index did not differ significantly between hybrid lines and bread wheat cultivars (77 vs. 85), and it was significantly higher than in spelt (43). Protein content was significantly higher in the flour obtained from hybrid lines than from bread wheat. Analyzed dough parameters in hybrid lines assumed intermediate values relative to parental forms, and protein parameters had a stronger discriminatory power than starch parameters. Bread made from the grain of single-cross hybrids between spelt and bread wheat was characterized by high quality and in many cases superior attributes relative to bread made from spelt flour. The study demonstrated that hybrids between T. spelta and T. aestivum can become a new, valuable source of grain for bread production.

Deposits of water and wastewater treatment are dispersed systems of a very complex structure. The properties of this structure are mainly dependent of the phenomena occurring in the processes of the formation of deposits, under the influence of several factors. The use of rheology in water and wastewater treatment technologies associated with the nonnewtonian nature of the flow of sewage produced mainly in the processes of coagulation and sedimentation. A large number of physical, chemical and biological theory excludes the possibility of determining the rheological parameters, and therefore knowledge of the rheological characteristics of sludge from water and wastewater treatment must be based on experimental studies using appropriate viscometers. This paper presents a study to determine the rheological parameters undergone initial sludge conditioning and fermentation. The study was conducted on excess sludge undergone initial ultrasonic field conditioning, heat, and polyelectrolytes. Conditioned sludge is subjected to the stabilization process in the bioreactor, and determines the rheological parameters (shear stress, viscosity, yield point). The use of pre-conditioning resulted in an increase of shear stress tested sewage sludge. This dependence has been in particular for sludge conditioned polyelectrolytes. Experimentally determined values correlated with the values set out in the rheological models.

Investigations of possible formation of thcrmogels based on chitosan lactate and chloride with sodium b-glycerophosphate are presented in the paper. Solution of chitosan salt is formed into hydrogel at temperature above 35°C, i.e. in physiological conditions (below this temperature it has a form of viscous solution).

The article presents theoretical and experimental investigation on properties of a composite material based on rubber. The approach presented in this research is an experimental measurement based on spectrum analysis combined with theoretical investigation held to describe a viscous-elastic behaviour of the material. The proposed mathematical model is represented by five rheological parameters of hybrid Maxwell and Kelvin-Voigt elements and includes an optimization task for determination of the stiffness and damping coefficients. In the proposed rheological model, not only the displacements are unknown but also forces described by second-order differential equations. Validation between the experimental measurement and theoretical investigation is made based on spectrum analysis.

Binder formula is one of the most significant factors which has a considerable influence on powder injection molding (PIM) processes. In the study, rheological behaviors and properties of different binder systems containing PIM feedstocks, Inconel 625 powder commonly used in space industry, were investigated. The feedstocks were prepared 59%-69% (volume) powder loading ratios with three diversified binder systems by use of Polypropylene as backbone binder. The average particle size of the Inconel 625 powder used was 12.86 microns. Components used in the binder were mixed for 30 minutes as dry in three dimensional mixing to prepare binder systems. Rheological features of the feedstock were characterized by using a capillary rheometer. Viscosities of the feedstocks were calculated within the range of 37.996-1900 Pa.s based on the shear rate, shear stress, binder formula and temperature. “n” parameters for PIM feedstocks were determined to be less than 1. Influences of temperature on the viscosities of the feedstocks were also studied and “Ea” under various shear stresses were determined within the range of 24.41-70.89 kJ/mol.

The nonlinear mathematical model of behavior of controllable viscosity fluid (CVF) under applied external field is presented. A large family of these fluids is commonly used to control responding forces of dampers in vibration control applications. The responding force of a damper with CVF has two components. The first one - uncontrollable - is proportional to the viscosity of a base fluid and velocity of its motion, the second one, which is controllable, depends on the strength of the applied external field. Both are involved in the process of dissipation of unwanted energy from the vibrating systems. An equivalent damping factor based on the principle of energy dissipated during one cycle of damper work under a constant strength external field was calculated. When mass or stiffness is variable the equivalent damping factor can be set accordingly by adjusting the strength of external field to have vibrating damped system purposely/continuously working in the critical or other chosen state. This paper also presents cases of applying periodically changing strengths of an external field synchronized with cycles of periodical motion of the vibrating system to continuously control the damping force within each cycle.

Swelling clay minerals, which are innately capable of dispersing into thin flakes in water, can significantly depress coal flotation. Some researchers partially attribute depression to pulp viscosity increments. This study sought to understand the role of swelling clay minerals in fine coal flotation, by investigating the rheological behavior of bentonite suspensions under controlled and uncontrolled dispersion conditions. The effect of collector, frother, and solution pH on rheological properties of the pulp was studied. Findings showed that at a natural pH, Newtonian flow properties were displayed when bentonite was directly added into a swelling suppressed solution containing calcium ions. The same process was repeated under uncontrolled conditions, and the suspensions transferred from Newtonian to non-Newtonian flows with pseudo-plastic characteristics, depending on the solid density. Further, pH value, methyl isobutyl carbinol (MIBC) and kerosene had the potential to alter the rheological behavior of controlled and uncontrolled systems, especially pH value in the uncontrolled system.

This research aims to explore how the flotation process conditions influence the rheological properties of phosphate rock slurry. The apparent viscosity of phosphate rock slurry was measured by Brookfield DVNext rheometer. Different mineral types, grinding time, slurry mass concentration and reagent systems were adopted to study the viscosity behavior of phosphate rock slurry. The results showed that under the same conditions, the apparent viscosity of apatite and dolomite slurry was basically the same, and the apparent viscosity of the slurry after mixing the two minerals was basically the same as that of single mineral. For the same slurry concentration, the mineral particle size had a significant effect on the rheological behavior of the slurry, and its apparent viscosity increased exponentially with the decrease of particle size. In addition, phosphate rock slurry showed shear thickening fluids characteristics when the slurry concentration is 20%-40%, but changed to pseudoplastic fluid at high concentration (60%). Sulfuric acid as pH regulator and inhibitor had little effect on the rheology of slurry; when GJBW and NaOL were added as collectors, the rheology of slurry changed, and the effect of GJBW was more obvious.

This work deals with the analysis of parametric models of a MR linear damper, which suit various rheological structures of the MR fluid. The MR fluid structure and properties, damper description and parametric damper models which are connected in various ways with the actual behaviour of the MR fluid are presented. Based on computer simulations, the effectiveness of the models under predicted MR linear damper behaviour is shown. The values of the parametric models used in the simulations were determined in an identification experiment.
W pracy dokonano analizy parametrycznych modeli fenomenologicznych liniowego tłumika magnetoreologicznego (MR), które odpowiadają różnym strukturom reologicznym cieczy MR wypełniającej tłumik. Przedstawiono własności cieczy, budowę tłumika oraz modele parametryczne tłumika przybliżające w różny sposób rzeczywiste zachowanie cieczy MR. W oparciu o symulacje komputerowe pokazano efektywność modeli do przewidywania rzeczywistego zachowanie liniowego tłumika MR. Wartości parametrów modeli wykorzystywane w symulacjach wyznaczono na podstawie eksperymentu identyfikacyjnego.

The aim of this paper is to present a method of the semi-active control of torsional vibrations in a working machine drive system by means of rotary actuators with a magneto-rheological fluid. The simple open-loop control strategy is proposed for a mechanical system vibrating in steady-state operating conditions. This semi-active control approach is based on the principle of optimum viscous damping and frictional properties realized by the magneto-rheological fluid, where its respective parameters are determined by the applied control electric currents. The analysis is performed theoretically by means of structural electro-mechanical models of the considered drive system as well as experimentally using a laboratory test rig in the form of a rotor-shaft system co-operating with two asynchronous motors generating property programmed driving and retarding electro-magnetic torques.

A novel internal combustion engine without a crankshaft and connecting rod mechanisms, which the author would like to present, is partially acting on another law of physics. The invention titled 'Nano-Magneto-Rheological Mechatronic Commutator Internal Combustion Engine', which is concisely termed the Fijalkowski engine by some, is based on a completely new propulsion engineering solution that has no analogies in the world. Thus, this paper focuses on a novel internal combustion, which may use a nano-magneto-rheological mechatronic commutator that may replace the crankshaft and connecting rod (conrod) mechanisms. This mechatronic commutator may let nano -magneto-rheological rotary ratchets oscillate in a controlled wobble while keeping the output shaft spinning smoothly; and although opposed pistons and opposed cylinders similar to those in automotive 'boxer' engines may power the Fijalkowski engine, it may also use opposed cylinders containing four pairs of two end-to-end opposed pistons for higher power densities. The nano-magneto-rheological mechatronic commutator is used for converting between one form of mechanical motion that is linear, reciprocating motion of pistons and another -- that is the rotary motion of the output shaft.

Discharge of metal containing effluents into water has been a cause of major concern. Traditional treatment methods are proving to be ineffective and expensive. Chitosan was studied as a potential biosorbent due to its positive charge and relatively low cost. The study involves evaluating the metal binding performance of chitosan in a Polymer Enhanced Diafiltration (PEDF) system which uses an ultra filtration membrane to retain the chitosan which, in turn, binds the metal, thereby preventing passage into the permeate stream. Conditions for binding such as pH, concentration of polymer and chromium were studied. Optimal performance was obtained when the system was operated at pH values lower than the pKa of chitosan i.e. 6.3. Using 6 g/L chitosan at pH 4.0, chromium concentration was reduced to less than 1mg/L from a feed concentration of 20 mg/L. Equilibrium dialysis experiments were done to study the kinetics of binding and the uptake of metal per gram of polymer. Rheological measurements demonstrated that in the presence of 1-100 mM chromate, chitosan was found to be slightly shear thickening at low concentrations such as 4 g/L and 6 g/L whereas it was slightly shear thinning at higher concentrations like 12 g/L and 20 g/L This suggests that neutralization of chromium anions is due to the interaction of multiple chitosan molecules. This result is consistent with the relatively stiff nature of the polysaccharide. Overall, this study suggests that some modification of the native polymer would be required to improve uptake and make it an industrially workable process.

In the present study the results of rheological measurements and atomic force microscopy (AFM) of polymer composites with montmorillonite (MMT) are presented. Chitosan is blended with synthetic polymers and inorganic additives in acetic acid solution and this solution is cast to prepare the mixture film. Flow measurements were made on a Bohlin Visco 88 rotary viscometer in the temperature range 25ºC-40ºC. The apparent shear viscosity and rheological parameters of the unmodified components and their composites were determined and discussed. Polymer films were examined using a Scanning Probe Microscopy SPM production Veeco. The obtained results suggest that the modification of several properties of polymer composites is a consequence of the interaction between the polymeric components and inorganic additives.

In the present paper, the results of rheological measurements in solutions of chitosan (Ch) with partially hydrolyzed polyacrylamide (HPAM) are presented. Aqueous acetic acid, lactic acid and aqueous acetic acid/NaCl were used as solvents for chitosan, HPAM and Ch/HPAM solution blends. The criterion of miscibility of solution blends, based on the additivity rule of apparent shear viscosity (ηa) has been discussed. The rheological parameters from power law (Ostwald de Waele model) and activation energy of viscous flow (Ea) have been calculated from the flow curves and Arrhenius plots, respectively. It was found that studied polymer solutions exhibited the non-Newtonian behaviour with shear-thinning and/or shear-thickening areas. The final result depends on the thermodynamic goodness of the solvent and on the blend composition.

The agronomic management of maize (Zea mays L.) modifies the structure and composition of maize grain and its products like flour, masa, and tortillas. Results have shown that the protein content in flour obtained from maize grains treated with nejayote applied at 150 m3 ha-1 (10.36 g × 100 g-1) and nejayote applied at 75 m3 ha-1 with ovine manure applied at 25 t ha-1 (10.17 g × 100 g-1) was higher than that determined in flour treated with chemical fertilizer (10.05 g × 100 g-1). The flours obtained from maize fertilized without nejayote showed the highest viscosity values and the lowest values were for chemical fertilizer (2816 mPa s) and 75 m3 ha-1 of nejayote with ovine manure applied at 25 t ha-1 (2498 mPa s). The highest elastic and viscous moduli were obtained for masa with the following fertilization regimes: 75 m3 ha-1 of nejayote with 25 t ha-1 of ovine manure, and 150 m3 ha-1 of nejayote with 25 t ha-1 of ovine manure and the lowest values of these parameters were obtained for 75 m3 ha-1 of nejayote with 50 t ha-1of ovine manure. The cohesiveness of masa was the lowest for maize fertilized with nejayote applied at 75 to 150 m3 ha-1, and 50 t ha-1 of ovine manure. The highest concentration of 150 m3 ha-1 for nejayote and the lowest level for ovine manure applied at 25 t ha-1 had a positive influence on the production of nixtamal and tortilla.

This study was carried out to evaluate the effects of sesame (Sesamum indicum L.) oil cake on pasta processing and the functional characteristics of the end product. The pasta produced from wheat flour fortified with 5, 7.5, 10, 12.5, and 15% (w/w) sesame oil cake showed a significant increase in total protein (i.e., ranging from 12.3 and 16.0 g/100 g), lipid (i.e., 3-fold) and crude fiber (i.e., 0.58 to 0.91 g/100 g) contents with the increasing addition of sesame oil cake. Consistograph tests showed that the pressure maximum decreased significantly from 267.2 kPa for the wheat flour dough (control) to 157.6 kPa upon the addition of 15% (w/w) sesame oil cake to wheat flour. Drop-in pressure after 250 and 450 s was lower for the control sample than for those containing 5, 7.5, 10, 12.5, and 15% (w/w) sesame oil cake. The elasticity value for the control dough was 500.1 Pa, and it was reduced to 392.3 Pa with the addition of 15% (w/w) sesame oil cake to wheat flour resulting also in a significant reduction in the extensibility. The pasta from the flour blend with 7.5% (w/w) sesame oil cake exhibited the highest cooking loss, at 5.40 g/100 g. Sensorial evaluation of the flavor and stickiness of pasta produced from the flour blends containing up to 10% (w/w) of sesame oil cake was satisfactory and recommended to open the door for industrial utilization of such valuable and nutritious by-products. Sesame components and gluten network interactions are believed to play a key role in modifying pasta’s functional characteristics and require more investigation.

W pracy przedstawiono budowę i zasadę działania narzędzia do wyznaczania charakterystyki reologicznej tworzyw polimerowych, którego część roboczą stanowi układ uplastyczniający wtryskarki. Przedstawiono wyniki badań reologicznych polipropylenu i kompozytu polipropylenu z mączką drzewną w zakresie skorygowanej szybkości ścinania od ok. 20 s-1 do 150 000 s-1. Stwierdzono dużą użyteczność skonstruowanego narzędzia w szczególności do wyznaczania charakterystyki przetwórczej kompozytów WPC zawierających napełniacz o dużych wymiarach cząstek.
This paper presents the design and operation of the tool for the rheological properties of polymeric materials determination. The tool co-operates with injection machine. Rheological properties of polypropylene and polypropylene/wood composite in the range of corrected shear rate of approximately 20 s-1 to 150 000 s-1 were described. Significant usefulness of the constructed tool, especially for determination of the processing characteristics of wood-polymer composites filled with a filler of a large particle sizes was found.

Systems of potato starch and potato maltodextrins saccharified to various degrees (low, medium, or high) were investigated to understand the effect of maltodextrin addition on some rheological properties of starch pastes and on chosen textural properties and colour parameters of starch gels. The samples for the study were 10% water pastes of starch alone and starch with maltodextrin added in amounts constituting 10, 20, 30, 40 or 50% (w/w) of the starch. The rheological investigations included determination of flow curves at a temperature of 50°C. The flow curves obtained were described using the Herschel-Bulkley model. The gels were subjected to texture profile determination and to colour analysis in the CIELab space using D65 illuminant and 10° observer. It was found that maltodextrin affects the properties of starch gels even if it replaces as little as 10% of starch in the system. As the proportion of maltodextrin in the gel increases, its flow strength decreases, the thinning degree increases, and the textural parameters change. The changes, however, are not proportional either to the saccharification degree or to the proportion of maltodextrin in the gel. Maltodextrin present in starch gels, regardless of its amount, influences also the values of colour parameters in the CIELab system.
Celem pracy była analiza wpływu dodatku maltodekstryn ziemniaczanych o różnym stopniu depolimeryzacji na wybrane właściwości teksturalne oraz parametry barwy układów skrobi ziemniaczanej, w których 10-50% skrobi zostało zastąpione hydrolizatami ziemniaczanymi o różnym stopniu scukrzenia. Materiał badawczy stanowiła handlowa skrobia ziemniaczana oraz handlowe ziemniaczane maltodekstryny – nisko scukrzona, średnio scukrzona i wysoko scukrzona. Do badań sporządzono 10% kleiki skrobi ziemniaczanej w wodzie oraz kleiki, w których kolejno 10, 20, 30, 40 i 50% skrobi zastąpiono hydrolizatem skrobiowym. Z tak otrzymanych kleików wyznaczono krzywe płynięcia w temperaturze 50°C, oznaczono barwę w układzie CIELab oraz wyznaczono profil tekstury. Do opisu krzywych płynięcia zastosowano model Herschel-Bulkley. Przeprowadzone analizy dowiodły, że zastąpienie skrobi już 10% maltodekstryny wpływa na zmianę właściwości żeli. Zmiany te jednak nie są proporcjonalne ani do stopnia scukrzenia maltodekstryn ani do procentowego udziału hydrolizatów w żelach. Wraz ze wzrostem udziału maltodekstryn w żelach obniża się lepkość pozorna, wzrasta ich rozrzedzenie, a także zmieniają się wartości parametrów tekstury. Również nawet 10% udział maltodekstryny w żelach, powoduje zmianę wartości parametrów barwy w układzie CIELab przy zastosowaniu iluminantu D65 i obserwatora 10°.

Analizowano sprężystość suszonego owocu avocado odwadnianego trzema metodami: konwekcyjnie (SK), sublimacyjnie (SS) oraz techniką kombinowaną: mikrofalową w warunkach obniżonego ciśnienia z konwekcyjnym podsuszaniem (SMK). Stwierdzono większą przydatność analizy sprężystości w oparciu o znormalizowane funkcje relaksacji naprężeń niż na podstawie reologicznego modelu Maxwella. Kombinowana metoda suszenia pozwala uzyskać susz o najwyższej sprężystości. Warunki prowadzenia suszenia poszczególnymi technikami istotnie zmieniają sprężystość produktu. Zmiany temperatury i prędkości przepływu czynnika suszącego podczas suszenia konwekcyjnego oraz sposobu dostarczania ciepła podczas suszenia sublimacyjnego wpływają na sprężystość suszonego avocado.
The analysis concerned avocado dried fruit elasticity dehydrated with three methods: convectional (SK), sublimation (SS) and with a combined technique: microwave in conditions of lowered pressure with a convective drying (SMK). A greater usefulness of the analysis of elasticity based on normalised functions of stresses relaxation than based on Maxwell rheological model was determined. A combined method of drying allowed for obtaining dried fruit of the highest elasticity. Conditions of carrying out drying with particular techniques significantly change the product elasticity. Changes of temperature and speed of the drying factor flow during convective drying and the method of supplying heat during sublimation drying, influence dried avocado elasticity.

In this paper the chemo-rheological behavior of aqueous TiC suspension and physical properties of gelcasted green body were investigated. The monomer system used in this project was acrylamide (AM) and methylenebisacrylamide (MBAM). Polymerisation reaction was promoted by the addition of tetramethyl ethylenediamine as a catalyst and ammonium persulfate as a initiator. The effects of tetramethylammonium hydroxide (TMAH), polyethylenimine (PEI) and polyethylene glycol (PEG) dispersants on the premix solution containing TiC powder have been studied via observation of the zeta potential and rheological behavior. The optimal amount of TMAH was achieved 0.4 wt.% at pH 9. The chemorheological results showed that the gelation time decreased and viscosity increased with increasing the monomer content, solid loading, initiator amount and temperature. The highest flexural strength of gel casted green body was obtained with 50 vol% solid loading and 25 wt.% monomers content.

The procedure of the formulation of constitutive equations for asphalt-aggregate mixes is based very often on rheological schemes composed of classical elastic, plastic and viscous elements. The parameters of these schemes can be obtained based on laboratory experiments. In order to obtain better curve fitting results one can use non-classical viscoelastic elements described by fractional derivatives. In this paper we present the characteristics of the fractional viscoelastic Huet-Sayegh model as well as the characteristics of an original simplified fractional model. The results have been obtained using algorithms of numerical calculation of inverse Laplace transforms. Then the proposal of an original rheological model including plasticity has been given. The non-linear differential constitutive relationships of such a model are presented in the paper. The results of computer simulations are also visualized. Finally, 3D viscoelasticplastic models of asphalt aggregatemixes are proposed. The models are based on a generalized macroscopic theory taking into account the effect of pressure-dependency on yielding.

Opis:
The creep test under the static loading, that allows to determine rheological properties of asphalt based on the creep curve, is the most effective test nowadays. Applied loads are non-destructive and allow to observe the course of the strain after the test load. The test can be carried out on compressing, shearing, bending as well as on triaxial test, that depends on the applied apparatus implementing different intensity [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6]. Based on the creep test, the stress of different properties can be specified. Among them there are valuable rheological properties based on selected viscoelascity models [1]. The properties of the viscoelascity models are relevant indexes depicting resistance to deformation. They can be used to forecast the wheel-truck in the accepted rheological model [1]. In this article it is shown the impact of different rheological properties of the viscoelacity model on the wheel-truck as well as the impact of different properties on shape and the course of the creep curve. The asphalt mixtures presented in this article are characterized by variable rheological properties. It is therefore difficult to determine which property mostly affects the size of the strain. However, the authors of this article attempted to analyse the change of the asphalt strain value of the different variables in particular rheological model, called Bürgers’s model.
Badanie pełzania pod obciążeniem statycznym jest obecnie najbardziej efektywnym badaniem pozwalającym na określenie reologicznych parametrów mieszanek mineralno - asfaltowych na podstawie krzywej pełzania. Stosowane obciążenia mają poziom nieniszczący i pozwalają na obserwację przebiegu odkształceń w czasie również po odciążeniu. Badanie może być realizowane przy ściskaniu, ścinaniu, rozciąganiu i zginaniu, a także w zakresie trójosiowym, w zależności od stosowanego aparatu realizującego zadany schemat naprężeń [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6]. Na podstawie badania pełzania można określić parametry oparte o różne teorie pełzania a szczególnie cenne parametry reologiczne w oparciu o wybrane modele lepkosprężyste [1]. Parametry z modeli lepkosprężystych są miarodajnymi wskaźnikami obrazującymi odporność mieszanek na deformacje. Można za ich pomocą prognozować głębokości koleiny w przyjętym modelu reologicznym [1]. W niniejszym artykule przedstawiono jaki wpływ na głębokość koleiny mają różne wartości parametrów reologicznych z analizowanego modelu lepkosprężystego oraz wpływ parametrów na kształt i przebieg krzywej pełzania. Przedstawione w artykule mieszanki mineralno - asfaltowe charakteryzują się zmiennymi parametrami reologicznymi, zatem trudno jest określić, który parametr decyduje o wielkości odkształcenia danej mieszanki. Mając na uwadze powyższe, w artykule podjęto próbę analizy zmiany wartości odkształcenia mieszanki mineralno – asfaltowej przy zmianie jednego oraz dwóch parametrów w danym modelu reologicznym – w tym przypadku - Bürgersa.

W artykule opisano metodę pomiaru właściwości wysokotemperaturowych asfaltów stosowaną do oceny rodzaju funkcjonalnego (PG) lepiszczy wg Superpave. Przedstawiono wyniki badań asfaltu drogowego i asfaltów modyfikowanych poddanych badaniu cyklicznego pełzania z odprężeniem (MSCR). Przeanalizowano wyniki badań, wskazując możliwości zastosowania oceny sprężystości oraz podatności lepiszcza do określania obecności modyfikatora typu elastomerowego w asfaltach modyfikowanych polimerami.
Method for characterised high temperature properties of bituminous binder apply for Superpave PG grade are described. Bituminous binder and polymer modified bitumen were tested by multiple stress creep recovery procedure (MSCR). Results of recovery and non-recoverable creep compliance were analysed in aspect to check sufficient modifier content.

W referacie przedstawiono analizę istotności wpływu podstawowych czynników składu na zawartość powietrza w mieszance betonowej dla BSZWW oraz opracowano matematyczny model, ujmujący wpływ właściwości reologicznych na zawartość powietrza w mieszance betonowej dla BSZWW. Pomiar parametrów reologicznych wykonano za pomocą testu rozpływu. Zawartość uwięzionego powietrza w mieszance mierzono metodą ciśnieniową.
The significance analysis of the fundamental composition factors on the air entrained in fresh concrete for HPSCC as well as a mathematical model influences the rheological properties of fresh concrete on the air entrained in fresh concrete for HPSCC are presented and discussed in the paper. Rheological parameters are measured using technical test (slump-flow test). Air entrained in fresh concrete is measured by concrete air entrainment tests.
