    The starting point for considering the means of creating and designing a film space in Romanian New Wave cinema is the thesis that Romanian film art in the 21st century is an artistic response to the times of communism and that images of the post-socialist architectural space – their multi-faceted functionalization in film mise-en-scéne – are the key method of evoking memories of the past. The article discusses, via the example of movies by Crisitian Mungiu, Corneliu Porumboiu and Cristi Puiu, (1) ways of depicting the “closing” of film characters in the cramped interiors of their apartments and (2) film images of individuals’ alienation in public spaces, both of them allusively referring to the times of the oppressive Nicolae Ceaușescu regime. The most important cinematographic devices used bythe authors of the Romanian New Wave cinema include: seemingly static shots, which, however, are filmed with a camera that is constantly gently moving and observing, and tableau shots. A common feature of all the considered works is the panopticism of the film world: the private and public spaces designed in them easily become a place of constant, panoptical observation. In the summary, theauthor remarks on and briefly discusses the coexistence of the aesthetics of minimalism / realism with the melodramatic elements in the cinematic structure of Romanian New Wave films.

    The article is a meta-study and provides an original typology of research on film and religion, based on Polish and English academic sources. The author proposes to divide this field of research into four main domains, which he names successively: substantial-theological, anthropological-mythological, socio-cultural and post-secular. The following descriptive criteria were used to introduce this division: the relationship between religion and culture adopted (usually implicitly) in a given direction of research, the concept of both human and religion emerging from them, and the established subject and scope of research, as well as the basic set of tools used within them. The proposed systematic is intended to help capture the significant differences between the main types of research on film and religion, both in terms of research assumptions, methods of analysis, and set goals.

    Usually articles on the history of amputation of limbs, focus on the surgeons, techniques and on the artificial limbs. Some people after amputation of limbs, survived even before the introduction of antibiotics, knowledge about antisepsis, sophisticated surgical techniques and the introduction of modern radiology. In my 40 years of experience in clinical rehabilitation medicine, I realize that most people with physical disability, do not seek sensation or risks. This article will focus on famous amputees who continued their military career in-spite of their injury and disability.

    The study comprised 200 teaching faculty students. It was expected from the students to depict a moment from the future family lives that they expect to have. After the pictures had been drawn, a half-structured group interview was performed with the students about their pictures. The content analysis of the pictures was inspected by 1 pediatric development expert, 1 psychologist and 1 psychological consultant in 5 different sub-contexts and reviewed against the answers given by the students. According to the findings of the study, while female students drew pictures depicting them spending time with their partners and children, male students tended to draw pictures in which they are spending time more individually (e.g., watching TV, soccer matches, etc.). Another finding of the study is that every student wants a family life except 2. Nearly everybody wants a child, but there can be differences concerning the number of children they want. One of the most important results of the study is that, while there are traditional attitudes about families, there can also be differences in modern attitudes.

    The experience of reminiscences/dreams lies at the roots of the theory of individual and social memory. The author compares childhood remembrance-pictures of the two important events of 28 June 1956 in Poznań with documental photographs collected in the Museum of Poznań Uprising 1956. These traces-documents are apparently different in comparison with tablets fitted on the pavement leading to the Museum. Memory is plural, and there are three main levels of recognition, memory and forgetting discussed by the author.

    My paper deals with Veselye kartinki (Merry Pictures), a monthly children’s cartoon magazine launched by the Komsomol in 1956 and dedicated to the youngest generations of the “new socialists” (age 4–8). In its heydays in the early 1980s the magazine reached a circulation of 9,5 million, which indicates that Merry Pictures had become an essential part of post-Stalinist childhood. Generations of small readers found it attractive for several reasons. The journal was indeed comparatively “merry” und funny – not least because it was exempt from censorship, and so it was the only publication of that kind in the Soviet Union. Moreover, among its illustrators were a number of artists who are today well known for their participation in the nonconformist art scene (for example Ilya Kabakov and Victor Pivovarov), which gave the merry pictures their specific visual quality. The magazine proved to be an “image machine” even after the end of the Soviet Union. It survived the Soviet childhood by a good two decades and granted its characters, the little folks, an afterlife in the mass culture of the new Russia. However, this is not only the story of the magazine and its attempt to visually shape a newly created concept, arising with the Thaw, of a merry childhood that entered the currently emerging canon of visual socialism. Rather, there are two other, contradictory understandings of Merry Pictures and its Merry Folks’ Club that can be found currently. According to one, the Merry Folks are considered the first Soviet comic heroes, who were correspondingly free of politics and harmless for their readership. The other regards them as socialist “pathos formulas” in a format for children that populate the art of Moscow Conceptualists as thoroughly ideological Soviet symbols. This paper attempts to augment these two selective “remnants” with the primary history of Merry Pictures and demonstrate a productive arsenal of images and figures was developed over a half-century, precisely in the tension between everyday free spaces and political stipulations.

    Research background: Endeavouring to develop healthy societies is a primary goal in many countries. As smoking is a major problem of public health, lowering the extent of smoking is one of the conditions for developing a healthy society. Based on the research revealing that the pairing of the product with negative stimuli enhances the possibility of negative reaction to the product as negative stimulus transfers it’s meaning to the product, tobacco packaging was labelled with negative smoking-related pictures illustrating the danger of smoking. Nevertheless, the extent of smoking is still large in many countries. Hence, the effect of negative smoking-related pictures has been the subject of intense debate within the scientific community. Purpose of the article: The aim of this research is to determine the effect of negative smoking-related pictures on the both implicit and explicit attitude toward smoking. Methods: For the purpose of determining the effect of negative smoking-related pictures on the both implicit and explicit attitude toward smoking, Implicit Association Test and questionnaire survey were provided. The questionnaire was elaborated based on the analysis and synthesis of scientific literature. Findings & Value added: The theoretical analysis substantiated the influence of attitude toward the product on consumer purchase decisions. Nevertheless, people do not always want to reveal their opinion, hence traditional marketing research methods for measuring explicit attitude are not sufficient as they are often not objective. Therefore, neuromarketing research methods complement traditional marketing research methods by providing more objectivity. Consequently, the Implicit Association Test and traditional questionnaire research are applied for the empirical research, revealing the effect of negative smoking-related pictures on the both implicit and explicit attitude toward smoking. The recommendations for the usage of negative smoking-related pictures on purpose to influence attitude toward smoking and consumer purchase behaviour are substantiated.

    Development of remote sensing has contributed to new approaches in landscape ecology, based on GIS technology. However, per-pixel classification, which has been in use since the 1970s, has been criticized as it does not take into account the contextual information, fundamental in geographic analysis. An alternative is objectoriented image analysis, which seems to approximate human perception in digital processing. Its basic processing units are segments (homogeneous groups of pixels) which may represent landscape entities. Contrary to pixels they allow to study e.g. topological and hierarchical relations (providing contextual information). Object-oriented analysis was used to work out a methodology of environmental analysis. It refers to traditional methods of Polish landscape ecology but take advantage of remote sensing data and GIS tools. As a case study area, Gorce Mts. and surroundings were selected. For the study area, hierarchically structured system of spatial units in three scales was built, which allowed to characterize the study area in respect to morphology and land use. The method enabled an effective landscape analysis through combining an approach specific for human perception with automatic methods, accelerating the research and increasing the level of objectivity.

    Automaty komórkowe dobrze nadają się do modelowania zjawisk globalnych powstających w wyniku lokalnego oddziaływania sieci powtarzalnych elementów. Dla zadania przetwarzania informacji istotne jest aby były one stabilne i nietrywialnie. Proponowany „klucz” wyszukiwania przydatnych automatów komórkowych oparty jest na analizie liczby komórek niezerowych i grafach połączeń w obrębie tzw. sąsiedztwa. Pokazano, jak struktura reguły rzutuje na dynamikę jednorodnych automatów komórkowych.
    Cellular automata are a good tool for modelling global processes which occur during local interaction of a net of the same elements. From information processing point of view it is important that such cellular automata are nontrivial and stable. The manner for searching of such automata proposed in the text bases on analysis of number of nonzero cells in configuration and the graphs on connections within the neighbourhood. The connection between the rule structure and behaviour of homogenous automata is shown.

    The dynamic development of virtual reality technics opened new possibilities of creating visual, audial and audiovisual moving pictures. VR is coming and invaiding XXIst century cinema. There is a grand challenge for filmmakers imagination: show delivering vision of reality or so-called reality made without using real physical objects. Are we really prepared for this technological revolution? Hendrykowski’s paper poses certain crucial questions connected with that change in making movies.     Landscape alteration is generally one of the most significant impacts resulting from surface mining and quarrying, particularly when the excavation activities are located within environmentally sensitive areas. We describe the results of two different methods of visual impact assessment applied to selected case studies in the Polish Carpathians. The study concerns areas of significant landscape value and holiday destinations for many people living in the Silesian and Kraków urban-industrial agglomerations. One of the two methods refers to the EC decision 272/02, which establishes ecological criteria for the award of the Community eco-label for hard floor-coverings. The second method was proposed in previous research and is based on the application of a visual impact indicator (Lvi) in which two objective aspects of landscape alteration are included: the extent of the visible excavation and its chromatic contrast with its surroundings. The results of the two methods are compared and discussed for each of the case studies considered.

    Paper shows the algorithm of determining an angle of meter's hand swing basing on meter's photograph and a program of checking this algorithm in practice. A practical use of that program makes able an automation of process of checking precision or calibration measuring devices with analog indicators.

    Tekst dotyczy współczesnego malarstwa, które wizualnym elementom kompozycji nadaje charakter tekstualny. Jest to między innymi przypadek tzw. combines i sitodruków Roberta Rauschenberga z lat 50. i 60. XX wieku, w których artysta stosował specyficzną formę kolażu. Zestawiając szereg wizerunków pochodzących z różnych obszarów stylistycznych, Rauschenberg zmusił widza do odczytywania jego prac kawałek po kawałku. Powstałych w ten sposób kompozycji nie sposób odbierać jako jednorodnego Gestalt, jak w przypadku powstającego w tym czasie malarstwa abstrakcyjnego (np. Kennetha Nolanda), ponieważ wykorzystują one doświadczenie dyskursywne, polegające na szukaniu relacji syntaktycznych pomiędzy znakami /obrazami. W eseju podjęto wątek dyskursywnego zwrotu i jego wpływu na recepcję amerykańskiego pop-artu na przykładach prac Rauschenberga i Jamesa Rosenquista, a także artystów należących do nurtu wywodzącego się po części z pop-artu, czyli The Pictures Generation — Davida Salle’go i Troya Brauntucha. Jako narzędzia metodologiczne wykorzystano między innymi pojęcia palimpsestu i alegorii łączące elementy wizualne z tekstualnymi. Pozwoliło to traktować wybrane przykłady współczesnego malarstwa nie tylko w kategoriach produktu kultury masowej w dobie mechanicznej (a także cyfrowej) reprodukcji, ale odczytać je jako strukturę dyskursywną, dokonującą dekonstrukcji kulturowych mitów i ich wewnętrznych sprzeczności.
    The essay investigates the category of contemporary painting which transforms the visual component into textual. This is the case of Robert Rauschenberg’s combined paintings and silkscreens from 1950s and 1960s, which offer the viewer a specific kind of collage. By juxtaposing images derived from various aesthetic modes, Rauschenberg enforced the reading of his work part-by-part. Such a composition did not remain a holistic unity — a Gestalt — as was the case of the abstract painting from that period (eg. Kenneth Noland’s), since it evoked a strictly discursive experience based on syntactic relations between the signs / images. The article focuses on the discursive turn and its impact on the reception of both pop-art such as Rauschenberg’s and James Rosenquist’s paintings, and the work of artists from the American movement partly deriving from pop-art, that is The Pictures Generation, with David Salle and Troy Brauntuch among them. The aim is to employ allegory and palimpsest as a conceptual frame to read contemporary painting not only as a product of mass culture in the age of mechanical (and digital) reproduction, but also as discursive structures, deconstructing cultural myths and their essential internal contradictions

    The man has always had a deeply developed sense of collecting various items. Such a passion was the foundation not only for institutional collecting, but also has had an influence on the formation of private collections. Often, because of such collections many things can be conserved for posterity. Simple sacred devotional images are among others such objects which are underrated. The tradition of small devotional pictures has its source in the Middle Ages. Over the next centuries, changed both the form and content of the religious pictures. Many of them were real works of art. The lapse of time, wars, historical storms and natural disasters caused that very few old sacred devotional pictures were conserved. Therefore it is right to preserve this type of collections from further damages. Many exhibitions, publications and lectures are organized by collectors and enthusiasts to make closer the theme of religious sacred images. The religious sacred pictures, despite their modest importance, are very precious cultural heritage of catholic culture, so it is important to take care to preserve them for future generations.

    Das Anliegen dieses Beitrags ist eine Reflexion über die theoretischen Grundlagen und die potenzielle Anwendbarkeit des Konzepts der Text/Bild-Sorten. Als „Text/Bilder“ (poln. „teksty/obrazy“) werden nach Cieszkowski (2014: 41) solche Einheiten aufgefasst, die weder den Texten noch den Bildern angehören, auch wenn sie sowohl Textualität als auch Bildlichkeit aufweisen. Die allgemeine Tendenz, das Forschungsgebiet einer Disziplin zu strukturieren, zeichnet sich explizit u. a. in der Textlinguistik ab. Von der Typologisierung, die auf die sprachlichen Texte bezogen wird, werden auch die Versuche angetrieben, die sprachübergreifenden Einheiten auf vergleichbare Weise zu sortieren. Ein Beispiel dafür bietet die bildlinguistisch fundierte Typologie der Bildsorten von Stöckl (vgl. Stöckl 2004: 139-141). In dem Beitrag wird ein Versuch unternommen, an ausgewählten Beispielen von Text/Bildern im massenmedialen Kontext die das Konzept der Text/Bild-Sorten zu diskutieren, wobei jedoch auf den methodologisch günstigen aber zugleich vereinfachenden Ansatz verzichtet wird, dass sie eine Sonderart der Texte seien. Angesicht enormer Dynamizität dieses Forschungsbereichs wird gleichzeitig der Frage nachgegangen, ob die Erstellung einer solchen Typologie die Erforschung der Text/Bilder fördern könnte
    The purpose of this paper is a reflection on the theoretical foundations and the potential usability of the concept of text-image genres. Text-images (pl. ‘teksty/obrazy’) are in the article defined with Cieszkowski (2014: 41) as such units, which are neither texts nor image, although they demonstrate textuality and pictoriality at the same time. The general tendency to structure the field of research belonging to a certain discipline is apparent e. g. in the text linguistics. The typology related to the language texts stimulates also the attempts to classify the non-language units in a similar way. An example for that is the typology of picture genres by Stöckl (see Stöckl 2004: 139–141), based on the concept of the image linguistics. The article is an attempt to discuss the concept of text/image genres on several examples of text/ image in the context of the mass media. However, it rejects the methodologically convenient but simplifying concept that they are an extraordinary type of texts. The enormous dynamicity of this research field justifies also the question if arranging a typology of text-images could contribute to the research of these units.
    O gatunkach tekstów-obrazów z perspektywy lingwistyki tekstuCelem artykułu jest refleksja nad podstawami teoretycznymi i potencjalną przydatnością koncepcji gatunków tekstów-obrazów. Jako teksty-obrazy w artykule rozumiane są za Cieszkowskim (2014: 41) takie jednostki, które nie zaliczają się ani do tekstów, ani do obrazów, a jednocześnie wykazują zarówno tekstowość jak i obrazowość. Ogólna tendencja do strukturyzowania obszaru badawczego określonej dyscypliny wyraźnie widoczna jest m. in. w lingwistyce tekstu. Typologizacja, która odnosi się do tekstów językowych, bywa podstawą do prób podzielenia w podobny sposób również jednostek pozajęzykowych. Przykładem jest oparta na założeniach lingwistyki obrazu typologia gatunków obrazów Stöckla (por. Stöckl 2004: 139-141). Artykuł stanowi próbę krytycznego spojrzenia na problematykę gatunków tekstów-obrazów na wybranych przykładach tekstów-obrazów w mediach masowych. Spojrzenie to stoi w opozycji do korzystnego metodologicznie, ale i upraszczającego podejścia, w myśl którego teksty-obrazy to po prostu mniej typowe teksty. Jednocześnie, wobec ogromnej dynamiki tego obszaru badawczego autorka stawia pytanie, w jakim stopniu powstanie takiej typologii mogłoby być przydatne przy opisie testów-obrazów.

    The article proposes the hypothesis that on the basis of analytical and interpretative practices, when describing, analysing and interpretating moving images, a dichotomous, binary division into objective and subjective images is a highly questionable move: it does not lend itself to an absolutely unequivocal resolution. In film, as in the field of moving images as a whole, there is no objective narration, just as there is no subjective narration. What emerges is an ostensibly dependent narration (or ostensibly independent), blending and merging both of these aspirations in diverse ways.

The article focuses on topics related to literature, especially to the works of Anton Chekhov, in the latest film by Nuri Bilge Ceylan The Wild Pear Tree. Its main character, Sinan, is a young writer, while the film is set in the province of Çanakkale, where ancient Troy was located. The analysis of the picture shows that the director refers to the historicity of the myth of the Trojan War with distrust. Instead, Ceylan portrays a local community immersed in intellectual stagnation and creates his hero as an extremely unlikeable misanthropist, to whom literature cannot bring fulfillment. The character of his father, Idris, introduces another ancient motif to the film – the figure of Sisyphus. The relationship between father and son, which deepens in the finale, brings an unexpected note of optimism to the picture, which in its dramaturgy resembles Anton Chekhov’s literary worlds.

    Having a reputation as a painter of historical subjects, Jacob Lawrence (1917-2000) is particularly recognized for his illustrations of the early twentieth-century African-American migration. His best known series of paintings, The Migration of the Negro (1941), challenges earlier interpretations of Black Americans’ journeys to the North and their everyday lives in the cities. The article explores Lawrence’s visual narratives together with the accompanying textual elements and the ways they present the social, political and cultural implications of the largest ever movement of African-American people across the country. It also considers the series from the perspective of form with a view to reconfiguring the relation between words and images.

    Der Beitrag verortet Friederike Mayröckers Texte zur bildenden Kunst im Kontext des Sprachdenkens der literarischen Moderne. In der medienreflexiven Literatur zu Beginn des zwanzigsten Jahrhunderts fasziniert das Bild als das Andere der Sprache, es verspricht eine Grenzerweiterung der Sprache ins Unsagbare hinein und birgt ein Evidenzversprechen, das die literarische Sprache nicht mehr einzulösen vermag. Anhand von Textbeispielen wird aufgezeigt, wie Mayröckers Sprache sich am Bild als dem Unsagbaren konturiert.
    The article locates Friederike Mayröcker’s texts on visual art in the context of the reflection of language in literary modernism. In the media-reflective literature at the beginning of the twentieth century, an image fascinates as the other in language, promises widening of language boundaries into the unsayable and holds an evidence promise which literary language can no longer live up to. Text examples show how Mayröcker’s language is contoured dealing with the image as the unsayable.

    „Album Wileńskie” to inicjatywa patriotyczno-krajoznawcza podjęta w połowie lat czterdziestych XIX-wieku przez związanego z Wileńszczyzną lekarza, kolekcjonera i wydawcę – Jana Kazimierza Wilczyńskiego (1806-1885). Wilczyński w odpowiedzi na zaobserwowane przez siebie niszczenie zabytków kultury polskiej przedsięwziął akcję zmierzającą do ich upamiętnienia. Zamawiając u artystów malarzy, często na koszt własny, odwzorowania wybranych dzieł (obrazów, budowli, portretów, przedmiotów historycznych), drukował je następnie (w trosce o jak najlepszą jakość) w Paryżu w zakładach litograficznym Lemerciera bądź Drouarta. W pracę nad „Album” zaangażował cały sztab rysowników, rytowników i drukarzy. Przez 40 lat działalności wydawnictwa ukazało się kilkaset litografowanych i chromolitografowanych rycin w poszytach należących do 6 podzielonych ze względu na format serii. Ryciny sprzedawano też oddzielnie, więc pomimo ekskluzywnego charakteru całości, były dostępne również dla mniej zamożnych. Ze względu na wyjątkowo mały format i odmienność wykończenia zwracają uwagę – należące do serii V – obrazki święte z tłoczoną papierową koronką (czarno-białe lub kolorowe), przeznaczone do książek do nabożeństwa, prezentujące ideę patriotyczno-krajoznawczą w skali mikro. Wyobrażono na nich wizerunki świętych według historycznych obrazów znajdujących się (czasami „niegdyś”) w kościołach na terenie Litwy – w szczególności Wilna – Wołynia, Podola, Grodzieńszczyzny, czy nawet Krakowa, Poznania i Warszawy. Ukazało się, według różnych rachunków, 200-300 wzorów. Rycinki kosztowały tanio, a rozprowadzane przez księży katolickich trafiały „pod strzechy”. Na odwrocie pozostawały puste bądź zawierały modlitwę – prostą anonimową lub wierszowaną z podanym autorem. Celem niniejszego artykułu jest przedstawienie grupy obrazków z hymnami polskich poetów: Władysława Syrokomli (Ludwika Kondratowicza), Teofila Lenartowicza, Juliana Ursyna Niemcewicza, Karoliny Proniewskiej i Deotymy (Jadwigi Łuszczewskiej). Autorka zapoznaje czytelnika z dotychczasowym stanem badań na ten temat; podaje katalog odnalezionych przez siebie w Muzeum Narodowym w Warszawie oraz Litewskim Archiwum Literatury i Sztuki w Wilnie egzemplarzy; prezentuje teksty wierszy (niektóre do tej pory niepublikowane); pokazuje trudności związane z badaniem obrazków z „Album” i proponuje kierunki dalszych poszukiwań.
    The Vilnius Album is a patriotic and cultural initiative taken up in the middle 1840’s by Jan Kazimierz Wilczyński (1806-1885) – a doctor, collector and publisher, as a reaction to the devastation of the monuments of Polish culture and an attempt to memorialize them. He commissioned images of chosen paintings, buildings, portraits and historical artifacts and then printed them in Paris in the lithography workshops of Lemercier or Drouart. He engaged a whole staff of illustrators, printmakers and printers. During the 40 years of its activity, the publishing house published several hundred litograph and chromolitograph prints in 6 series of different format. Prints were also sold separately. Because of their small format and unusual detail work, holy pictures with a repousse paper lace (black and white or coloured) intended for prayer books, with their micro-scale patriotic and cultural intent are especially interesting. They depict figures of saints as presented in historical portraits found in churches of Lithuania, Volyn, Podolia, Grodno or even Cracow, Poznan or Warsaw. According to various calculations 200-300 patterns of pictures were published. Prints were cheap and - distributed by priests - found their way to the masses. The reverse was empty or contained a simple verse prayer, either anonymous of a given author. The aim of the present article is to present a set of pictures with the hymns of Polish poets: Władysław Syrokomla (Ludwik Kondratowicz), Teofil Lenartowicz, Julian Ursyn Niemcewicz, Karolina Proniewska and Deotyma (Jadwiga Łuszczewska). The author presents the existing state of research on the topic; shows the catalogue of specimens she found in the National Museum in Warsaw and the Lithuanian Archives of Literature and Art in Vilnius; presents texts of poems (some of which have not yet been published); shows the difficulties connected with the research and suggests the direction of further studies.

Jak wykazały prowadzone do tej pory prace badawcze , zarówno korekcja atmosferyczna, jak i transformacja geometryczna wpływają na rezultat końcowy różnych przetworzeń cyfrowych. Wpływ taki został udowodniony m.in. przy obliczaniu temperatury powierzchni oraz wskaźników roślinności.

    Landscape alteration is generally one of the most significant impacts caused by surface mining and quarrying, particularly when the excavation activities are located within environmentally sensitive areas. The paper describes the results of two different methods of visual impact assessment applied to a number of case studies in Małopolska. The application involves areas with significant landscape values and places of weekend, summer and winter holidays for many people living in the Silesian and Kraków urban-industrial agglomerations. One of the two methods refers to the EC decision 272/02, which establishes ecological criteria for the award of the Community eco-label for hard floor-coverings. The second method is based on the application of a visual impact indicator (Lvi) in which two objective aspects of landscape alteration are included: the extent of the visible excavation and its chromatic contrast with the surroundings. The results of the two methods are compared and discussed for each of the case studies considered.

    The study was designed to investigate the abilities of sighted individuals to recognize emotions in embossed pictures (explored tactilely). The research material consisted of pictures representing male and female faces expressing: happiness, sadness, fear, surprise, disgust and anger. The fi ndings suggest that women more accurately recognize emotions based on tactile exploration of drawings depicting facial expressions. The discussion brings up the possible sources of the sex-related diff erence identifi ed by the study, pointing towards the diff erences in the functioning of emotional intelligence and specifi city of mental imagery in men and women.
    Przedmiotem badania była analiza zdolności osób widzących do rozpoznawania emocji na rysunkach wypukłych (poznawanych za pomocą dotyku). Materiał badawczy stanowiły rysunki męskich oraz kobiecych twarzy wyrażających: szczęście, smutek, strach, zdziwienie, wstręt i gniew. Wyniki wskazują, że kobiety trafniej niż mężczyźni rozpoznają emocje na podstawie eksploracji dotykowej szkiców wyrazów twarzy. W dyskusji poruszono zagadnienie możliwych źródeł ujawnionej w badaniu różnicy płciowej, wskazując na różnice w funkcjonowaniu inteligencji emocjonalnej oraz w specyfice działania wyobraźni u kobiet i mężczyzn.

    Cyfrowe przetwarzanie sygnałów (CPS; ang. Digital Signal Processing, DSP) jest dziedziną nauki i techniki zajmującą się sygnałami w postaci cyfrowej i metodami ich przetwarzania. Cyfrowe przetwarzanie sygnałów i analogowe przetwarzanie sygnałów są gałęziami nadrzędnej dyscypliny: przetwarzania sygnałów. Pierwszym etapem cyfrowego przetwarzania sygnałów jest zazwyczaj konwersja sygnału z postaci analogowej na cyfrową za pomocą przetwornika analogowo-cyfrowego. Często sygnał przetworzony cyfrowo jest sygnałem wejściowym dla modelu neuronowego. Neuronowa analiza obrazów to nowa dziedzina cyfrowego przetwarzania sygnałów. Można ją wykorzystać do identyfikacji wybranych obiektów występujących w postaci bitmapy.
    Digital signal processing (DSP) is the science and technology domain dealing with signals in a digital representation and the processing methods of these signals. DSP and analog signal processing are subfields of signal processing. Since the goal of DSP is usually to measure or filter continuous real-world analog signals, the first step is usually to convert the signal from an analog to a digital form, by using an analog to digital converter. Often, the required output signal is another analog input signal for neuronal models. The neuronal pictures analysis is then a new field of digital processing of signals. It is possible to use it to identification of chosen objects given in the form of bitmap.

    This article presents the visual research methods (VRM), a procedure containing an iterative circle for detecting smokers and non-smokers among adolescents and young adults. Qualitative and quantitative approaches were used to develop the theoretical framework and questionnaires, conduct workshops, content analysis and statistical modelling, and to examine and interpret the results. The visual context that detects smokers and non-smokers concerns the social norms and environment, attitudes, beliefs, role models, individual factors, situational context and healthy vs. unhealthy lifestyle.
    W artykule przedstawiono metody badań wizualnych (VRM), procedurę zawierającą iteracyjne koło do wykrywania palaczy i niepalących wśród młodzieży i młodych dorosłych. Wykorzystano metody jakościowe i ilościowe do opracowania ram teoretycznych i kwestionariuszy, przeprowadzenia warsztatów, analizy danych i modelowania statystycznego oraz do zbadania i interpretacji wyników. Kontekst wizualny, który rozróżnia osoby niepalące i palaczy, dotyczy norm społecznych i środowiska, postaw, przekonań, wzorców do naśladowania, czynników indywidualnych, kontekstu sytuacyjnego oraz zdrowego i niezdrowego stylu życia. VRM dostarcza precyzyjne wyniki dotyczące tego zjawiska oraz oferuje rzeczowy i odpowiedni sposób na jego zbadanie. Interpretacja wizualnego kontekstu palenia dostarcza cennych informacji dla rozwoju metod zapobiegania paleniu w porównaniu z tradycyjnym kwestionariuszem werbalnym.

    John Paul II saw the mass media as a real cultural revolution – the first modern Areopagus, where a constant exchange of information, ideas and values takes place. From the perspective of time it is worthwhile to ask whether the Pope realized the postulate of using the modern communication technology as an integral part of the Church’s activity.The author focuses on two characteristic events – the Pope’s prayer at the Western Wall in Jerusalem and his appeal for peace on the eve of the Second Gulf War. The paper shows that John Paul II’s communication potential issued from his personality characterized by the history of his own personal experiences.

    W Polsce w okresie międzywojennym ukazywało się kilkanaście czasopism o tematyce fotograficznej. W roku 1936 na rynku wydawniczym ukazało się aż dziewięć ich tytułów. Liczba artykułów omawiających dane zagadnienie w zakresie fotografiki wahała się od kilku do kilkuset. Zamierzeniem autorów artykułów zamieszczonych w tych czasopismach było nauczenie osób zajmujących się fotografowaniem uzyskiwania poprawnych zdjęć pod względem artystycznym, kompozycyjnym i technicznym. Swoje przesłanie edukacyjne kierowali oni głównie do fotoamatorów. Z analizy treści artykułów wynika, że owo przesłanie dydaktyczne dotyczyło głównie problematyki związanej z estetyką i kompozycją wykonywanych fotografii. Pozostałe artykuły odnosiły się do techniki wykonywania zdjęć oraz ich obróbki w procesie negatywowym i pozytywowym, a także sprzętu wykorzystywanego w całym procesie otrzymywania obrazów. Poza tym teksty zawierały wiele informacje z zakresu chemii, fizyki i krajoznawstwa. W licznych artykułach można również odnaleźć wątki wychowania patriotycznego.
    Close to a dozen journals dedicated to photography were published in Poland during the interwar period. For instance, in 1936, there were as many as nine specific titles with numerous volumes, and the number of journal articles discussing issues pertinent to photography ranged from several to more than a couple hundreds. The intention of the articles’ authors was to educate those interested in photography about obtaining images that were proper in regard to artistry, composition and technique. The educational message was primarily targeted at amateur photographers. From the content analysis of the articles, it appears that the aforementioned main educational message related mostly to the issues linked with aesthetics and composition of the pictures taken. The remaining articles addressed the technique of taking a photo, as well as developing and editing it within the negative and positive photo-processes. The authors also debated the equipment used during the entire process of acquiring images. The articles contained a lot of technical information from the fields of chemistry, physics and geography/landscape. Additionally, multiple journal articles reflect the themes of patriotic education.

    Frank Wedekinds ,Denken in Bildern‘ lässt sich im späten Stück Franziska (1911) besonders gut verfolgen. Zum einen manifestiert sich die Visualisierungstendenz in der tableauartigen Szenen-Choreographie, zum anderen in zahlreichen Bildzitaten, mit denen der Autor zum zeitgenössischen Kunstdiskurs Stellung bezieht. Die kunstgeschichtlichen Bezüge umfassen die breite Palette von der Renaissance, über die Präraffaeliten bis zur Kunst der 10er Jahre des 20. Jahrhunderts, womit ein reichhaltiges Bildarchiv mit u.a. Faust-, Helena-, Mignon-, Eva- und Maria-Figurationen eröffnet wird. Die visuellen Zitate fungieren als ein ironisches Korrektiv der christlichen Tradition, womit sich Wedekind als Sensualist in der Nachfolge der Antike profiliert.

Tendencja wizualizacyjna przejawia się tu z jednej strony w zdjęciowej choreografii scenicznej, z drugiej w licznych odniesieniach do historii sztuki, poprzez które autor zabiera głos we współczesnym mu dyskursie. Cytaty obejmują szeroki okres od renesansu, poprzez prerafaelitów aż po sztukę współczesną, co otwiera bogate archiwum obrazów z figuracjami Fausta, Heleny, Mignon, Ewy, Maryi i innych. Cytaty optyczne pełnią funkcje ironicznej korekty tradycji chrześcijańskiej, dzięki czemu autor wpisuje się w sensualistyczne dziedzictwo antyku.
    Frank Wedekind’s visual thinking can be studied particularly clearly in his late drama Franziska (1911). The tendency to visualize is on the one hand visible in the tableau-style choreography and on the other – in numerous references to art history, through which the author takes a position in contemporary art discourse. The references range from Renaissance through Pre-Raphaelite painting to contemporary art, opening up a wide archive of images, among them the figures of Faust, Helena, Mignon, Eve, Saint Mary and others. These “optical allusions” form an ironic corrective to the Christian tradition, and allow the author to inscribe his work among the ‘sensualists’ in the heritage of antiquity.

    Using the data of the remote sensing the Earth, new opportunities in assessing the state of agricultural crops and yield forecasting have been considered. In addition to the above-ground information, as shown by numerous studies conducted earlier, most parameters of the germination and development of agricultural crops can be restored and used from satellite images. Thanks to the software product “Land Viewer”, which enables pictures to be taken from Landsat 4, 5, 7, 8, Sentinel 2 and Terra satellites, and it will provide improving the model and assessment of the biomass potential of agricultural crops. The data obtained from remote sensing during the cropping season, show the information on the condition of agricultural crops sown according to the vegetation stages (photosynthesis process) in crops. At various levels of development, in terms of the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), the seasonal pattern of crops photosynthesis is well reflected, which is associated with the above-ground biomass. The results have been presented in the current model of crop yield forecasting. The improved forecasting model enables significant increases in the economic efficiency of the research, and ensure the accuracy of the data on the physiological processes of agricultural crops, yields, and efficiency of obtaining the data on the research object.
    Jak pokazują liczne badania, większość parametrów kiełkowania oraz stan rozwoju upraw rolnych można określić na podstawie zdjęć satelitarnych. W artykule wskazano nowe możliwości oceny stanu upraw rolnych i prognozowania plonów z użyciem danych teledetekcyjnych. Zastosowano do tego celu oprogramowanie „Land Viewer”, które umożliwia wykorzystanie zdjęć z satelitów Landsat 4, 5, 7, 8, Sentinel 2 i Terra oraz poprawę modelu i ocenę potencjału biomasy upraw rolnych. Dane uzyskane za pomocą teledetekcji podczas sezonu upraw dostarczają informacji o stanie roślin na różnych etapach wegetacji (proces fotosyntezy). Na różnych poziomach rozwoju, ocenianego na podstawie znormalizowanego wskaźnika różnicy wegetacji (NDVI), dobrze odzwierciedla się sezonowość fotosyntezy upraw, co jest związane z biomasą nadziemną. Wyniki zostały przedstawione w obecnie stosowanym modelu prognozowania plonów. Ulepszony model prognozowania pozwala na znaczne zwiększenie efektywności ekonomicznej badań, a także zapewnia większą dokładność danych o procesach fizjologicznych upraw rolnych, plonach oraz wydajności produkcji w obiekcie badawczym.

    This paper focuses on a contemporary phenomenon of visual mass culture consisting of signs and pictures expressing technical information and marketing communications. Such signs and pictures shape the environment of the modern man. One can notice them on highways, streets, in the city space, malls, stores, bars, airports and train stations. These signs and pictures are also mass produced items and can be considered as architecture represented by designs of easily recognizable buildings like McDonald's bars and IKEA department stores. Signs and pictures which are a subject matter of this paper have a technical and at the same time artistic character. This text is an attempt to see them in the context of the theory of culture by Ernst Cassirer and his concept of animal symbolicum.

Czas również na popularyzację wyników badań nad „Polską Zieloną Ścianą” w środowisku architektów. Naukowcy z „Konsorcjum Zielonych Technologii” chcą pójść dalej, w kolejnych badaniach w nowym grancie „Biostrateg”, założono stworzenie „systemu ściany zielonej z retencją wody.
    The research work on green elevations adjusted to the climate conditions of Poland, lasting for several years, being carried out by a scientific consortium consisted of AB SYSTEM S.C., and SGGW (the Warsaw University of Life Sciences), has led to the creation of a new technology – the Polish Green Wall (Polish acronym PZS) (the research programme INNOTECH, the path IN-TECH, No. of the contract INNOTECH/IN1/40/159571/NCBR/12, No. of the patent application is P30877PL00/KJ, No. P 407029, property of AB System S.C., the project leader SWRW). Now, it is the turn to implant research into architectural and urbanistic structures – from single walls till the complete urban assumptions. It is also the time to popularise findings of the research on the Polish Green Wall in the environment of architects. Scientists from the Green Technologies Consortium want to go further; in the subsequent surveys in the new grant called “Biostrateg” (Bio Strategist), there is assumed setting up a system of green wall with water retention.

    Artykuł przedstawia historię figury Matki Boskiej z Dzieciątkiem w Krzywaczce, z XV wieku, zwłaszcza przez pryzmat różnych nieprofesjonalnych konserwacji dokonywanych przez wieki. Ostatnia konserwacja ujawniła szczegółowo zasięg tych napraw, dzięki czemu możliwe było znalezienie dokładniejszej daty stworzenia i geneza artystyczna rzeźby. Pomimo silnej inspiracji sztuką czeską i austriacką, Matka Boska w Krzywaczce, musi być postrzegana jako dzieło szkoły małopolskiej. Statua o takim poziomie artyzmu mogła zostać stworzona na tym obszarze, chociaż w tym okresie Małopolska Szkoła przechodziła tzw. Okres przejściowy. Niezależnie od tego można założyć, że pomnik w Krzywaczce kopiuje ogólny rytm draperii rzeźby kamiennej „Pięknej Madonny z Krumłowej”, choć w późniejszym wydaniu jest bardziej podobna do tej z posągu Vimperka, przedstawiający nawrót motywów wspólnych pod koniec XIV wiek i w pierwszej ćwierci XV wieku. Ich początki sięgają rzeźby, która wciąż pozostaje w silnym związku z architekturą, z posągiem z katedry Świętego Szczepana w Wiedniu jako najwybitniejszym przykładem. Autor Matki Bożej z Dzieciątkiem w Krzywaczce musiał powtórzyć kompozycję Madonny z Krużlowej lub z Vimperk nie znając tych przykładów, kopiując jej rzeźby imitujące wyżej wymienione. Ten typ posągu był dość popularny w Austrii. Można go znaleźć także w innych ośrodkach. Chociaż Maryja w Krzywaczce bez wątpienia inspiruje się sztuką czeską, Austria była centrum najbardziej wpływowym, jeśli chodzi o wzory formy artystycznej. Mimo że obecnie nie jest możliwe ustalenie genezy stylu bezpośrednio w pracach Master of Seeon, nadal warto powrócić do koncepcji upatrującej genezy jej stylu z rozwiązań występujących na terenie Austrii. Pomnik w Krzywaczce powstał w szkole, która znała sztukę czeską, na co wskazuje jej podobieństwo do np. Madonny z Vimperka.
    The article presents the history of the statue of Virgin Mary and Child in Krzywaczka, from the fifteenth century, especially the changes it was subjected to over the centuries as a result of different unprofessional repairs. The last conservation revealed in details the range of those repairs and therefore made it possible to find a more precise date of creation and the artistic genesis of the sculpture. Despite the strong inspiration from Czech and Austrian art, the Virgin in Krzywaczka, has to be seen as the work of the Lesser Poland School. The statue of such artistry level could have been created in this region, although in this period Lesser Poland School was going through its so called transitional period. Regardless of this fact, it can be assumed that the statue in Krzywaczka copies the general rhythm of draperies of stone sculpture of the ‘Beautiful Madonna of Krumlow’, although in its later edition, more similar to this of statue from Vimperk, showing a relapse of motives common at the end of the fourteenth century and in the first quarter of the fifteenth century. Their origins can be traced back to the sculpture still in the strong connection with architecture, with the statue from Saint Stephen’s Cathedral in Vienna as the most prominent example. The author of Virgin Mary and Child in Krzywaczka must have repeated the composition of Madonna of Krumlow or Vimperk without knowing these examples, copying it from sculptures imitating those mentioned above. This type of statue was quite popular in Austria. It could also be found in other centres. Although Mary in Krzywaczka without a doubt shows an inspiration with Czech art, Austria was the most influential centre when it comes to the figure’s form. Even though currently it is not possible to find the genesis of the style directly in works of Master of Seeon, it is still right to come back to the concept of its origins coming from the way it was formed in Austria. The statue in Krzywaczka was created in a school, which was familiar with Czech art, as indicated by its similarity to – for instance – Madonna of Vimperk.

    The Methodological Problems of Studies on the History of Polish Postwar Documentary The author discusses the narratives and stereotypical (ideological) point of view as a matrix for constructing an overly simple image of the Polish documentary in the postwar period (1944–1955) as shadowed in the untruth of political discourse. In Marek Hendrykowski’s opinion this particular period in Polish documentary film was much more complicated and multi perspectived (in a “dialogical” sense) as a research object posing new questions and opening new perspectives for film historians.

    Mit dem vorliegenden Beitrag wird die Absicht verfolgt, den Begriff ‚Stereotyp‘ näher zu besprechen sowie das Problem der Stereotypisierung im didaktischen Kontext darzustellen. Im Rahmen der theoretischen Überlegungen wird unter anderem auf Definitionsprobleme des Begriffs sowie die Rolle von Stereotypen in der Linguistik und im Rahmen des interkulturellen Ansatzes eingegangen. Stereotype, die als „pictures in our head“ gesehen werden, sträuben sich gegen jede Berichtigung und stellen eine Art individuelle Erkenntnisstruktur dar, die einerseits die Wirklichkeit mental ordnen lässt, andererseits mit ihrer treuen Widerspiegelung nicht assoziiert werden kann. Im weiteren Verlauf des Beitrags werden Thematisierungsmöglichkeiten von stereotypen Inhalten in ausgewählten DaF-Lehrwerken dargestellt und miteinander verglichen.
    Celem artykułu jest omówienie pojęcia stereotypu oraz przedstawienie problemu stereotypizacji w kontekście dydaktyki języków obcych. Rozważania teoretyczne koncentrują się wokół problemów definicyjnych pojęcia stereotypu oraz jego roli dla lingwistyki jak również w świetle interkulturowego nacechowania procesu kształcenia. Stereotypy, postrzegane jako „pictures in our heads“, są indywidualną konstrukcją poznawczą odporną na jakiekolwiek zmiany, co z jednej strony umożliwia mentalne porządkowanie rzeczywistości, z drugiej nie stanowi wiernego jej odwzorowania. W dalszej części artykułu autorka przedstawia i porównuje przykłady tematyzacji treści stereotypowych w wybranych podręcznikach do nauki języka niemieckiego.
    The aim of the article is to discuss the concept of a stereotype and to present the problem of stereotyping in the context of foreign language teaching. The theoretical part deals with the problem of how to define a stereotype and with its function in linguistics as well as in the light of the intercultural character of teaching. Stereotypes – perceived as „pictures in our head“ – are individual cognitive structures resistant to any changes, which, on the one hand, makes it possible to organize the reality mentally but, on the other hand, does not allow for its fully accurate reconstruction. Later in the article, the author presents and compares examples of stereotypes in selected German textbooks.

    Artykuł skupia się na przedstawieniu najważniejszych koncepcji naukowych, społecznych i kulturowych, które podkreślają znaczenie obrazów, zwłaszcza fotografii, w życiu człowieka, oraz ich specyfikę. Przedstawiono znaczenie fotografii jako dokumentu, dzieła sztuki, materiału naukowo-badawczego. Poruszono kwestię siły przekazu dokumentów wizualnych, w tym fotografii, sposób ich organizacji oraz to, że fotografia rejestruje rzeczywistość niezwykle precyzyjnie. Opisano historię fotografii w kontekście rozwoju nowych metod badawczych w nauce. Zaprezentowano ideę fotografii dokumentalnej. Przedstawiono zasady komunikacji fotograficznej, psychologiczne i filozoficzne czynniki skłaniające ludzi do uwieczniania rzeczywistości, w której żyją.
    The article focuses on presenting the most important scientific, social and cultural ideas emphasizing the significance of images, especially photographs, in human life, as well as their specificity. The meaning of a photograph as a document, work of art, and scientific research material was presented. The matter of visual document message strength was addressed, including photographs, as well as the manner of organizing them and the fact that photography records reality in an extremely detailed way, the history of photography was described in the context of the development of new research methods in science. The idea of documentary photography was presented, as well as the principles of photographic communication, psychological and philosophic factors making people record the reality they live in.

    Artykuł charakteryzuje sanktuaria maryjne w Polsce z koronowanymi obrazami i figurami Matki Bożej w drugiej połowie XX wieku. Treść punktu pierwszego jest geograficzną panoramą sanktuariów maryjnych, rozmieszczonych w poszczególnych regionach kraju. Wskazuje na ich zagęszczenie w Małopolsce i Wielkopolsce. Przesłanie poszczególnych sanktuariów maryjnych, o którym decyduje treść wizerunków maryjnych, tytuł obrazu, tradycja i historia sanktuarium, przybliża punkt drugi artykułu. W ostatniej części został poddany analizie czas koronacji. Zwraca uwagę duża ilość koronacji w czasie obchodów tysiąclecia chrztu Polski i w podczas pielgrzymek do Polski Jana Pawła II.
    The article characterizes sanctuaries devoted to the cult of the Virgin Mary in Poland with pictures and figures of the Virgin Mary crowned in the II half of the XX century. In the first part the location of the sanctuaries is presented. It’s worth noticing that there are lots of sanctuaries especially in the Little Poland and in Wielkopolska. The second part presents the tradition and history of sanctuaries. The third part takes into account the time of the coronation. It’s noticeable that a lot of coronation ceremonies took place during celebrations of the 1000 anniversary of the Christianization of Poland and during Pope’s visits to Poland.

    Heinz Piontek and Christa Wolf before the turnaround. A comparative study. The article is a comparative study. The aims of the study is to analyze the essays written by Heinz Piontek and Christa Wolf before the turnaround, mainly in the 1970’, and to discuss the similarities and differences between them. We can notice some points of contact in their literary work. Similar motives in similar constellations appear in both essays writing. Although they worked in different regimes, the same themes and literary tendencies are described by both of them, and some phenomenons are being similar assessed.
