In this paper we describe a few architectures and software for parallel-processing computers. We have tested a cluster constructed with the use of MPI. All tests have been performed for one- and two-dimensional magneto-hydrodynamic plasma. We have concluded from the results of these tests that a simple problem should be run in a sequential node, as its execution time does not essentially decrease with the number of processors used. At the same time, the execution time of a complex problem decreases significantly with the number of processors. In the case of two-dimensional plasma the acceleration factor has reached the value of 3.7 with the use of 10 processors.

This paper deals with the development of mechanism with hybrid kinematic structure called trivariant and its subsystems. Hybrid machines are characterized by connecting advantages of both type mechanisms together - high dynamics of parallel mechanisms for positioning and high flexibility and high mobility range of serial mechanisms for orientation. At our department was built the small-scale mechanism prototype used for testing, functional verification, for education and training. There was created the simulation software and control system based on standard PC for this prototype. Our prototype can be applied like small CNC milling machine but it is possible to modify it also for the manipulation with objects like robot device.

The Bulgarian-Polish-Russian parallel corpusThe Semantics Laboratory Team of Institute of Slavic Studies of Polish Academy of Sciences is planning to begin work on the creation of a Bulgarian-Polish-Russian parallel corpus. The three selected languages are representatives of the main groups of Slavic languages: Bulgarian represents the southern group of Slavic languages, Polish – the western group of Slavic languages, Russian – the eastern group of Slavic languages. Our project will be the first parallel corpus of these three languages. The planned corpus will be based on material, dating from one period (the 20th century) and will have a synchronous nature. The project will not constitute the sum of the separate corpora of selected languages.One of the problems with creating multilingual parallel corpora are different proportions of translated texts between the selected languages, for example, Polish literature is often translated into Bulgarian, but not vice versa.Bulgarian, Russian and Polish differ typologically – Bulgarian is an analytic language, Polish and Russian are synthetic. The parallel corpus should have compatible annotation, while taking into account the characteristic features of the selected languages.We hope that the Bulgarian-Polish-Russian parallel corpus will serve as a source of linguistic material of contrastive language studies and may prove to be a big help for linguists, translators, terminologists and students of linguistics. The results of our work will be available on the Internet.

The present paper discusses real parallel computations. On the basis of a selected group of dynamic programming algorithms, a number of factors affecting the efficiency of parallel computations such as, e.g., the way of distributing tasks, the interconnection structure between particular elements of the parallel system or the way of organizing of interprocessor communication are analyzed. Computations were implemented in the parallel multitransputer SUPER NODE 1000 system using from 5 to 50 transputers.

Opis:
In this article we present a navigation system of a mobile robot based on parallel calculations. It is assumed that the robot is equipped with a 3D laser range scanner. The system is essentially based on a dual grid-object, where labels are attached to detected objects (such maps can be used in navigation based on semantic information). We use a classical SMPA (Sense - Model - Plan - Act) architecture for navigation, however, some steps concerning object detection, planning and localization are parallelized in order to speed up the entire process. The CUDA (Compute Unified Device Architecture) technology allows us to execute our algorithms on many processing units with use of a inexpensive graphics card which makes it possible to apply the proposed navigation system in a real time.

This paper is devoted to the total tardiness minimization scheduling problem, where the efficiency of a processor increases due to its learning. Such problems model real-life settings that occur in the presence of a human learning (industry, manufacturing, management) and in some computer systems. However, the increasing growth of significant achievements in the field of artificial intelligence and machine learning is a premise that the human-like learning will be present in mechanized industrial processes that are controlled or performed by machines as well as in the greater number of multi-agent computer systems. Therefore, the optimization algorithms dedicated in this paper for scheduling problems with learning are not only the answer for present day scheduling problems (where human plays important role), but they are also a step forward to the improvement of self-learning and adapting systems that undeniably will occur in a new future. To solve the analysed problem, we propose parallel computation approaches that are based on NEH, tabu search and simulated annealing algorithms. The numerical analysis confirm high accuracy of these methods and show that the presented approaches significantly decrease running times of simulated annealing and tabu search and also reduce the running times of NEH.

The herein proposed method of synthesis of the parallel robot applied as flight simulator motion system control laws came from author's 20 year experience in developing, integrating and testing the control laws and their software dedicated to different simulators. The goal of the simulator motion control law synthesis at the proposed method is not minimizing cost function taken at the beginning of that synthesis process but achieving positive assessment by the operator (e.g. pilot) team on the basis of simulator motion perception. Procedures adopted for those simulators FAT (Final Acceptance Tests) within proposed method were based on standard military equipment testing methods. Performing the final and the most important tests by the real device operators (pilots) was the new element here. The other important modification of the classical method was introducing the simulated object acceleration derivative into the filters controlling the simulator motion system. It appeared to be particularly effective in the cases of highly manoeuvrable airplane simulators.

Between lexical meaning and valency – towards a method for extracting equivalents based on a parallel corpus Some entries in translation dictionaries (even in those for closely related languages) offer multiple target equivalents with disparate meanings even when the meaning of the source word is not considered ambiguous within the source language. The translator’s task of choosing the best fitting text unit is made even more difficult by sparse exemplification and missing or sketchy valency information. Using a parallel corpus, we explore to what extent valency (seen in a broad sense both as a syntactic and semantic property) can help to cope with a few difficult cases of Czech psych verbs in relation to Polish and how the lexical caps can be filled. Next, we compare the manually compiled lists of translation equivalents in context, annotated and sorted by their valency properties, with results of an automatic method, using word-to-word alignments in a lemmatised parallel corpus to build a list of equivalent pairs, annotated by their frequency. We conclude that valency is an important (though not omnipotent) discriminant for the choice of the target equivalent and that the list of translation pairs extracted automatically from a parallel corpus can be a useful supplement to a standard translation dictionary.

Amyloid β (Aβ) is the subject of numerous studies due to its link to the devastating Alzheimer’s disease and it exists in a parallel structure in fibril aggregate. The Iowa mutant (D 23 N) Aβ posses a unique antiparallel fibril aggregate structure and can also form parallel structure. This structural difference, coupled with the fact that occurrence of the Iowa mutant is correlated with early onset Alzheimer’s, suggests to use these peptides as candidates for computational studies of the structural determinants of the toxicity of Alzheimer’s disease. In order to compare the two observed Aβ structural motifs, we designed a computational study to probe the factors that affect the stability of parallel and antiparallel aggregates. Since the structural changes may occur on a timescale beyond that sampled in traditional molecular dynamics (MD), we employed a techniques of scaling the mass to reduce the solution ’s viscosity and compared the results to regular molecular dynamics. The knowledge gained from this study could provide insight into the mechanism of selection for antiparallel and parallel two fold structures.

W artykule przedstawiono analizę porównawczą dotyczącą badania efektywności kilku równoległych implementacji algorytmu Gaussa-Seidela. Analizowany w artykule algorytm pozwala na osiągnięcie dosyć dobrych pod względem szybkości zbieżności oraz wartości współczynnika przyspieszenia obliczeń wyników w porównaniu do standardowej sekwencyjnej oraz równoległej implementacji metody Gaussa-Seidela. Obliczenia praktyczne przeprowadzono w środowisku procesorów wielordzeniowych oraz w środowisku klastrów obliczeniowych.
The paper presents the results of the efficiency analysis of some parallel implementations of Gauss-Seidel algorithm. The main idea of the presented method consists in successive modification of the search directions used in the computations. This modification is performed on the basis of solutions of local optimization subproblems received for all stages of the algorithm. The analyzed algorithm enable to achieve a good efficiency of parallel computation in terms of speed of convergence and value of speedup factor in comparison to standard sequential and parallel implementation of Gauss-Seidel method. Parallel computation were implemented in the multicore processor and multiprocessor cluster.

This article summarizes experimental analyses for the determination of process parameters that can be achieved in an industrial machine tool with parallel kinematics. Focus is on the examination of the machining results' dependency on position and direction. Therefore milling experiments are conducted, testing different positions and directions within the workspace. Surface quality, process forces, acceleration as well as vibration characteristics of the working platform are assessed. Based on measured frequency responses the stability limits are determined at different locations within the workspace. By these examinations it can be confirmed that the dependency of static and dynamic machine properties on position and direction has an influence on machining results. Best results are achieved in central positions of the machine used for most of respective operations. Furthermore it's represented that the machining results are comparable to conventional serial machines though parallel kinematics show a stronger dependency on direction.

The Use of the Lexical Exponents of Hypothetical Modality in Polish and LithuanianIn this article the author focuses on the issue of hypothetical modality[1] in Polish and Lithuanian. A list of the basic exponents of hypothetical modality in both languages is presented. However, the focus is mainly placed on the lexical exponents. On the basis of one of the six groups, which describes a high degree of probability (H5), the differences between the use of the lexical exponents in both languages are examined. Na przykładzie jednej z sześciu grup, opisującej wysoki stopień prawdopodobieństwa (H5), omawia różnice użycia wykładników leksykalnych w obu językach. W badaniach wykorzystuje wielojęzyczne zasoby korpusowe, w tym Polsko-litewski korpus równoległy Clarin-PL.[1] [W literaturze przedmiotu na oznaczenie opisywanych tu treści stosowany jest również termin epistemiczności. MATLAB jest językiem wysokiego poziomu do obliczeń technicznych oraz interaktywnym środowiskiem przeznaczonym do projektowania algorytmów, analizy i wizualizacji danych oraz obliczeń numerycznych. Do MATLAB-a wbudowano operacje na wektorach, macierzach i tablicach, które tworzą matematyczną podstawę do obliczeń naukowych i technicznych. Pozwala to na szybsze tworzenie i wykorzystywanie algorytmów obliczeniowych - niż przy użyciu tradycyjnych języków (C, Fortran), gdyż przy realizacji zadań na niskim poziomie nie ma potrzeby deklarowania zmiennych, ich typów i adresów. Obliczenia równoległe pozwalają realizować na komputerach wielordzeniowych, wieloprocesorowych i klastrach, zadania intensywne numerycznie i z dużą ilością danych. W artykule opisano możliwości wykonywania obliczeń równoległych w środowisku MATLAB v. 7.11 (R2010b) z wykorzystaniem jego bibliotek Parallel Computing Toolbox v.5.0 oraz MATLAB Distributed Computing Server v.5.0.
MATLAB is a high-level technical computing language and interactive environment for algorithm development, data visualization, data analysis, and numeric computation. The MATLAB language supports the vector and matrix operations that are fundamental to engineering and scientific problems. It enables faster development and execution of algorithms than with traditional languages (C, FORTRAN) because it do not needs to perform low-level administrative tasks, such as declaring variables, specifying data types, and allocating memory. Parallel computing lets solve computationally and data-intensive problems using multicore processors, GPUs, and computer clusters. In this paper, the application of the parallel computing in MATLAB v. 7.11 (R2010b) environments has been described with using Parallel Computing Toolbox v.5.0 and MATLAB Distributed Computing Server Version 5.0.

In this paper I present a corpus-based study of the interference of the verb say from English source texts into their Polish translations. I compare a sizeable corpus of native Polish fic- tion with corpora of English-Polish fiction translations and argue that the various forms of the verb say commonly used in the English narration influence the choices made in some (albeit not all) of the Polish translations. In order to exemplify my claims I use parallel corpora to show how two different professional translators working with an identical set of source texts were influenced by the narrative verb distribution.

The present paper discusses an effective adaptive methods suited for use in parallel environment. An in-house, parallel flow solver based on the residual distribution method is used for the solution of flow problems. Simulation is parallelized based on the domain decomposition approach. Adaptive changes to the mesh are achieved by two distinctive techniques. Mesh refinement is performed by dividing element edges and a subsequent application of pre defined splitting templates. Mesh regularization and derefinement is achieved through topology conserving node movement (r-adaptivity). Parallel implementations of an adaptive use the dynamic load balancing technique.

The paper brings forward an idea of multi-threaded computation synchronization based on the shared semaphored cache in the multi-core CPUs. It is dedicated to the implementation of multi-core PLC control, embedded solution or parallel computation of models described using hardware description languages. The shared semaphored cache is implemented as guarded memory cells within a dedicated section of the cache memory that is shared by multiple cores. This enables the cores to speed up the data exchange and seamlessly synchronize the computation. The idea has been verified by creating a multi-core system model using Verilog HDL. The simulation of task synchronization methods allows for proving the benefits of shared semaphored memory cells over standard synchronization methods. The proposed idea enhances the computation in the algorithms that consist of relatively short tasks that can be processed in parallel and requires fast synchronization mechanisms to avoid data race conditions.

The paper addresses the problem of scheduling in the two-stage flowshop with parallel unrelated machines and renewable resource constraints. The objective is minimization of makespan. The problem is NP-hard. Fast heuristic algorithms using list scheduling and greedy strategies are proposed. For evaluation of the performance of the algorithms computational experiments are performed on randomly generated test problems, and results are reported.

Twórcy oprogramowania mają wiele różnych możliwości zaimplementowania współbieżności, jednak zazwyczaj trzymają się jednej, najbardziej znanej sobie techniki. Warto prześledzić działanie każdej z nich, aby odkryć, kiedy można ją wykorzystać w sposób efektywny, a kiedy lepiej poszukać alternatywy. W poniższym artykule zostały przedstawione sposoby równoległej implementacji obliczeń matematycznych z wykorzystaniem wątków, zadań, puli wątków, puli zadań oraz równoległej pętli for z klasy Parallel. Wszystkie zostały napisane w języku C# na silniku Windows Presentation Foundation platformy .NET. Zaimplementowane obliczenia matematyczne to obliczenie liczby Pi z pomocą wzoru Leibniza.
Nowadays processors working in personal computers and mobile devices allow for more and more effective parallel computing. Developers have at their disposal many different methods of implementing concurrency, but usually use the one, that they now best. It is beneficial to know, when a particular technique is good and when it is better to find an alternative. This paper presents different ways of implementing parallel mathematical calculations using threads, tasks, thread pool, task pool and parallel for loop. Each method was used in a C# application running on Windows Presentation Foundation engine on .NET platform. Implemented operation is calculation value of Pi using Leibnitz’s formula.

One of the most challenging issues in the case of many and multi-core architectures is how to exploit their potential computing power in legacy systems without a deep knowledge of their architecture. The analysis of static dependence and dynamic data dependences of a program run, can help to identify independent paths that could have been computed by individual parallel threads. The statistics of reusing the data and its size is also crucial in adapting the application in GPU many-core hardware architecture because of specific memory hierarchies. The proposed profiling system accomplishes static data analysis and computes dynamic dependencies for Java programs as well as recommends parts of source code with the highest potential for parallelization in GPU. Such an analysis can also provide starting point for automatic parallelization.

In this paper, it was presented numerical results related to three dimensional simulation of motion of a vortex ring. For the simulation it was chosen the Vortex In Cell method. The method was shortly described in the paper. The numerical results were obtained on the single processor (x86) architecture. The disadvantage of the single processor computation is a very long time of computation. To menage this problem, we switched to the parallel architecture. In our first approach to the multicore architecture we tested the possibility and algorithms for the solution of the algebraic system of equations that resulted form discretization of the Poisson equation. We presented the results obtained with CUDA architecture. In order to better understand how does the parallel algorithms work on CUDA architecture, it was shortly presented a scheme of the device and how programs are executed on it. We showed also our results which are related to the parallelization of some simple iterative methods like the Jacobi method and Red-Black Gauss-Seidel method for solution of the algebraic system. The results were ncouraging. For the Red Black Gauss-Seidel using GTX480 card, the calculations were 90-times shorter than on a single processor. As we know the solution to the Poisson equation is equivalent to the solution to the algebraic systems.
W pracy przedstawiono wyniki numeryczne ruchu trójwymiarowego pierścienia wirowego. W obliczeniach zastosowano metodę cząstek wirowych, która została pokrótce opisana. Obliczenia przeprowadzono na pojedynczym procesorze (x86). Wadą takiej realizacji jest długi czas obliczeń. Dla przyspieszenia obliczeń zaproponowano algorytm obliczeń równoległych w środowisku wieloprocesorowym karty graficznej z technologią CUDA. Architekturę karty krótko opisano. Znajomość architektury ma istotne znaczenie dla efektywności kodu. Napisany program przetestowano, rozwiązując układ równań algebraicznych otrzymany po dyskretyzacji równania Poissona. Przedstawiono wyniki obliczeń dla zrównoleglonych, prostych metod iteracyjnych rozwiązywania układów równań takich jak metoda Jacobiego czy „Red-Black Gauss-Seidel”. Dla metody „Red-Black Gauss-Seidel” oraz karty GTX480 otrzymano 90-krotne przyspieszenie czasu obliczeń względem pojedynczego procesora.

The method and the mechatronic system of active control of the dynamic spatial positioning of the executive body of a parallel kinematics machine tool are proposed. By means of geometric modeling, the basic analytical relations that characterize the interconnection between the rods of the mechatronic control system and the power rods of the parallel kinematics machine tool are calculated. The analytical dependencies that characterize errors of the spatial position of the executive body of the parallel kinematics machine tool are set out. The prototype of the mechatronic system of active control of the dynamic spatial position of the executive body of the parallel kinematics machine tool has been manufactured and its presetting and viability checking made. The special equipment to control the exact position of the tool of the parallel kinematics machine tool when it comes to the position is proposed.

We present the actual status and the most important issues related to the installation of the data reduction LOFAR software on high power computer Prometheus located in ACC Cyfronet. We refer to the software itself as well its practical use cases in the context of the scientific tool and the detailed installation/testing methodology. We address most typical challenges and problems that occurred during our attempts to set up the complete and ready-to-use LOFAR environment (including not only programs, but also libraries, scripts and other additional tools) on non-standard (cluster-type) computing system. The result of these works is then briey summarized. We also discuss the is- sues related to LOFAR documentation, maintenance, distribution and further development. Finally, we propose some future improvements.

Multilingual corpora have found many applications in arts and humanities and social sciences, as well as in translation. A number of ways exist in which multilingual corpora can be used. Translators and CAT users would predominantly use translation memories (TM). Other users can choose from two ways of accessing the resources produced by The Institute of Slavic Studies. In the first method, the user needs to download the open-source TMX translation memories from CLARIN-PL DSpace repository (https://clarin-pl.eu/dspace) and load it into their preferred computer application. One can found free and proprietary applications that facilitate querying multilingual corpora; CLARIN-PL also offers free tools. The other method of accessing the multilingual data produced by The Institute of Slavic Studies does not require any advanced computer skills from the user. CLARIN-PL webpage includes the KonText search engine, which contains also Polish-Bulgarian resources (https://kontext. clarin-pl.eu/). The Polish-Bulgarian corpus contains the following types of resources: (1) fiction literature, (2) specialist literature (literature that is a reflection of the latest technological and cultural developments); and (3) film dialogues, which are the most similar to spoken language.

Slavic languages and the Lithuanian language in the Clarin-PL parallel corporaThe Clarin Eric and Clarin-PL strategic scientific purpose is to support humanistic research in a multicultural and multilingual Europe. Polish researchers put the emphasis on building a bridge between the Polish language and Polish linguistic technologies and other European languages and their linguistic technologies. So far, the Polish scientific community has mainly focused on Polish-English connections. Clarin-PL has been developing the first and only multilingual corpora of the Polish language in conjunction with other Slavic languages and the Lithuanian language: the Polish-Bulgarian-Russian Parallel Corpus and the Polish- Lithuanian Parallel Corpus. The parallel corpora created by the ISS PAS Corpus Linguistics and Semantics Team break through the existing “canons” and allow scientists access to interlinked multilingual language resources – in the first phase limited to the languages of the three Slavic groups and the Lithuanian language. In the article, the authors present very detailed information on their original system of the semantic annotation of scope quantification in multilingual parallel corpora, hitherto unused in the subject literature. Due to the system’s originality, the semantic annotation is carried out manually. Identification of particular values of scope quantification in a sentence and the hereby presented attempts of its recording are supported by long-term research conducted by an international team of linguists and computer scientists / mathematicians developing the issue of quantification of names, time and aspect in natural languages. Języki słowiańskie i litewski w korpusach równoległych Clarin-PLStrategicznym celem naukowym Clarin ERIC i Clarin-PL jest wspieranie badań humanistycznych w wielokulturowej i wielojęzycznej Europie. Dla polskich badaczy ważna jest budowa pomostu między językiem polskim, polskimi technologiami językowymi a innymi językami europejskimi i na ich rzecz opracowanymi technologiami językowymi. Dotychczas w nauce polskiej największy nacisk był kładziony na powiązania polsko-angielskie. Clarin-PL opracowuje zatem pierwsze jak dotąd wielojęzyczne korpusy języka polskiego w zestawieniu z innymi językami słowiańskimi oraz z językiem litewskim: Korpus równoległy polsko-bułgarsko-rosyjski i Korpus równoległy polsko-litewski. Tworzone przez Zespół Lingwistyki Korpusowej i Semantyki (IS PAN) korpusy równoległe przełamują dotychczasowe „kanony” i udostępniają nauce powiązane wielojęzyczne zasoby – w pierwszym etapie ograniczone do języków trzech grup słowiańskich oraz języka litewskiego. W artykule autorzy przedstawiają bardzo szczegółową informację o zastosowanej po raz pierwszy w literaturze przedmiotu anotacji semantycznej dotyczącej kwantyfikacji zakresowej w wielojęzycznych korpusach równoległych. Z powodu swojego rozległego zakresu i nowatorstwa ta anotacja semantyczna jest nanoszona ręcznie. Identyfikacja poszczególnych wartości kwantyfikacji zakresowej w zdaniu oraz przedstawiane tu próby jej zapisu są poparte wieloletnimi badaniami międzynarodowego zespołu lingwistów i matematyków-informatyków opracowujących zagadnienie kwantyfikacji imion, czasu i aspektu w językach naturalnych.

Abstract: The main goal was to improve a state of the art 6D SLAM algorithm with a new GPGPU-based implementation of data registration module. Data registration is based on ICP (Iterative Closest Point) algorithm that is fully implemented in the GPU with NVIDIA FERMI architecture. In our research we focus on mobile robot inspection intervention systems applicable in hazardous environments. The goal is to deliver a complete system capable of being used in real life. In this paper we demonstrate our achievements in the field of on line robot localization and mapping. We demonstrated an experiment in real large environment. We compared two strategies of data alingment - simple ICP and ICP using so called meta scan.
Głównym celem jest artykułu jest usprawnienie algorytmu 6D SLAM za pomocą implementacji modułu rejestracji danych wykorzystującą obliczenia równoległe. Moduł rejestracji danych jest oparty o algorytm ICP (ang. Iterative Closest Point), który został w pełni zaimplementowany w architekturze GPU NVIDIA FERMI. W naszych badaniach koncentrujemy się na mobilnych systemach robotycznych inspekcyjno-interwencyjnych dedykowanych do pracy w niebezpiecznym środowisku. Celem jest opracowanie kompletnego systemu, który może być wykorzystany w realnej aplikacji. W tym artykule przedstawiamy nasze rezultaty w zakresie lokalizacji i budowy mapy w trybie on-line. Przedstawiamy eksperyment w rzeczywistym, rozległym środowisku. Zostały porównane dwie strategie dopasowywania danych, klasyczna oraz wykorzystująca tzw. meta scan.

The paper presents an innovative data classification approach based on parallel computing performed on a GPGPU (General-Purpose Graphics Processing Unit). The results shown in this paper were obtained in the course of a European Commission-funded project: “Research on large-scale storage, sharing and processing of spatial laser data”, which concentrated on LIDAR data storage and sharing via databases and the application of parallel computing using nVidia CUDA technology. The paper describes the general requirements of nVidia CUDA technology application in massive LiDAR data processing. The studied point cloud data structure fulfills these requirements in most potential cases. A unique organization of the processing procedure is necessary. An innovative approach based on rapid parallel computing and analysis of each point’s normal vector to examine point cloud geometry within a classification process is described in this paper. The presented algorithm called LiMON classifies points into basic classes defined in LAS format: ground, buildings, vegetation, low points. The specific stages of the classification process are presented. The efficiency and correctness of LiMON were compared with popular program called Terrascan. The correctness of the results was tested in quantitive and qualitative ways. The test of quality was executed on specific objects, that are usually difficult for classification algorithms. The quantitive test used various environment types: forest, agricultural area, village, town. Reference clouds were obtained via two different methods: (1) automatic classification using Terrascan, (2) manually corrected clouds classified by Terrascan. The following coefficients for quantitive testing of classification correctness were calculated: Type 1 Error, Type 2 Error, Kappa, Total Error. The results shown in the paper present the use of parallel computing on a GPGPU as an attractive route for point cloud data processing.

Inthe paper, a mechatronic approach toward parallel robots design is described. A methodology of dealing with such a construction is shown and its peculiar features are indicated. A case study, based on this approach is described: design of three-limb parallel robot, which prototype has been constructed in Department of Robotics and Machine Dynamics, AGH University of Science and Technology.

The analysis of a biological structure with numerical methods based on engineering approach (i.e. Computational Solid Mechanics) is becoming more and more popular nowadays. The examination of complex, well reproduced biological structures (i.e. bone) is impossible to perform with a single workstation. The mesh for Finite Element Method (FEM) of the order of 106 is required for modeling a small piece of trabecular bone. The homogenization techniques could be used to solve this problem, but these methods require several assumptions and simplifications. Hence, effective analysis of a biological structure in a parallel environment is desirable. The software for structure simulation at cluster architecture are available; however, FEM generator is still inaccessible in that environment. The mesh generator for biological applications – Cosmoprojector – developed at Division of Virtual Engineering, Poznan University of Technology has been adapted for the parallel environment. The preliminary results of complex structure generation confirm the correctness of the proposed method. In this paper, the algorithm of computational mesh generation in a parallel environment has been presented. The proposed system has been tested at biological structure.

This paper will show a new approach to the solution of SAT-problems. It has been based on the isomorphism between the Boolean algebras of finite sets and the Boolean algebras of logic functions depending on a finite number of binary variables. Ternary vectors are the main data structure representing sets of Boolean vectors. The respective set operations (mainly the complement and the intersection) can be executed in a bit-parallel way (64 bits at present), but additionally also on different processors working in parallel. Even a hierarchy of processors, a small set of processor cores of a single CPU, and the huge number of cores of the GPU has been taken into consideration. There is no need for any search algorithms. The approach always finds all solutions of the problem without consideration of special cases (such us no solution, one solution, all solutions). It also allows to include problem-relevant knowledge into the problem-solving process at an early point of time. Very often it is possible to use ternary vectors directly for the modeling of a problem. Some examples are used to illustrate the efficiency of this approach (Sudoku, Queen's problems on the chessboard, node bases in graphs, graph-coloring problems, Hamiltonian and Eulerian paths etc.).

The presented comparative analysis concerns two iterative solvers for large-scale linear systems related to žFEM simulation of human bones. The considered scalar elliptic problems represent the strongly heterogeneous structure of real bone specimens. The voxel data are obtained with high resolution computer tomography. Non-conforming Rannacher-Turek finite elements are used to discretize of the considered elliptic problem. The preconditioned conjugate gradient method is known to be the best tool for efficient solution of large-scale symmetric systems with sparse positive definite matrices. Here, the performance of two preconditioners is studied, namely modified incomplete Cholesky factorization, MIC(0), and algebraic multigrid. The comparative analysis is mostly based on the computing times to run the sequential codes. The number of iterations for both preconditioners is also discussed. Finally, numerical tests of a novel parallel MIC(0) code are presented. The obtained parallel speed-ups and efficiencies illustrate the scope of efficient applications for real-life large-scale problems.

The article presents a comparison of Kotlin coroutines with analogous solutions in Java and Scala in parallel program-ming using chosen metric and non-metric criteria. For that purpose, a multi-module project with corresponding imple-mentations of selected algorithms in all of the three languages was created and then analyzed. The studies were preced-ed by a description of the created project.
Artykuł prezentuje porównanie wykorzystania współprogramów języka Kotlin w przetwarzaniu równoległym do analogicznych rozwiązań w Javie i Scali względem wybranych kryteriów mierzalnych i niemierzalnych. W tym celu stworzono oraz przeanalizowano wielomodułową aplikację z odpowiadającymi sobie implementacjami wyselekcjonowanych algorytmów w trzech wspomnianych językach. Analiza poprzedzona została opisem utworzonego projektu.

This leads directly to the formation of a parallel society, whose functioning can not be reconciled for long term with democratic principles and with the tolerance of religious. For Switzerland, this is a new socio-political situation, additionally difficult because of the decentralized federalism and the direct democracy system in this country. The political elites in Switzerland are blocking political rights of the muslim.

Systems of consistent linear equations with symmetric positive semidefinite matrices arise naturally while solving many scientific and engineering problems. In case of a "floating" static structure, the boundary conditions are not sufficient to prevent its rigid body motions.
Traditional solvers based on Cholesky decomposition can be adapted to these systems by recognition of zero rows or columns and also by setting up a well conditioned regular submatrix of the problem that is used for implementation of a generalised inverse. Conditioning such a submatrix seems to be related with detection of so called fixing nodes such that the related boundary conditions make the structure as stiff as possible. We can consider the matrix of the problem as an unweighted non-oriented graph. Now we search for nodes that stabilize the solution well-fixing nodes (such nodes are sufficiently far away from each other and are not placed near any straight line). The set of such nodes corresponds to one type of graph center.

Opis:
Parallel kinematics with a higher end-effector degree of freedom such as hexapods and pentapods consist of a large number of joints and slender struts. However, it is only possible to create comparably low levelsof bearing and strut bending stiffness atreasonable expense due to the limited construction space. That means that these structures are very susceptible to vibration. Even in the low-frequency range they have a large number of relevant eigenmodes that are only dampened slightly. Simultaneously, it is difficult to analyze vibrational properties due to coupled eigenmodes, which also makes it difficult to discover ways to remedy this situation. This article will take the example of a pentapod to analyze the dynamic properties of slightly dampened parallel kinematics by simulation to study potential means of manipulating it. This will include a description of the model formation of the mechanical system. The article will also address ways of reducing model size and using various simulation environments to boost analysis efficiency. Finally, both passive and active strategies will be studied and evaluated for boosting damping. Amongst others it could be shown that it is not necessary to damp every of the five kinematic chains to achieve effective improvement of the system damping behaviour.

Computing applications such as metaheuristics-based optimization can greatly benefit from multi-core architectures available on modern supercomputers. In this paper, we describe an easy and efficient way to implement certain population-based algorithms (in the discussed case, multi-agent computing system) on such runtime environments. Our solution is based on an Erlang software library which implements dedicated parallel patterns. We provide technological details on our approach and discuss experimental results.

This paper presents FPGA and softcore CPU based solution for large datasets parallel core calculation using rough set methods. Architectures shown in this paper have been tested on two real datasets running presented solutions inside FPGA unit. Tested datasets had 1 000 to 10 000 000 objects. The same operations were performed in software implementation. Obtained results show the big acceleration in computation time using hardware supporting core generation in comparison to pure software implementation.

The paper discusses the solving of inverse thermomechanical problems requiring a large number of FEM tasks with various boundary conditions. The study examined the case when all tasks have the same number of nodes, finite elements, and nodal connections. In this study, the speedup of the solution of the inverse problem is achieved in two ways: 1. The solution of all FEM tasks in parallel mode. 2. The use by all FEM tasks a common matrix with addresses of nonzero elements in the stiffness matrices. These algorithms are implemented in the own FEM code, designed to solve inverse problems of the hot metal forming. The calculations showed that developed code in parallel mode is effective for the number of tasks late than 0,7-0,9 of the number of available processors. Thus, at some point, it becomes effective to use a sequential solution to all tasks and to use a common matrix of addresses of nonzero elements in the stiffness matrix. The achieved acceleration at the optimal choice of the algorithm is 2–10 times compared with the classical multivariate calculations in the FEM. The paper provides an example of the practical application of the developed code for calculating the allowable processing maps for laser dieless drawing of ultra-thin wire from copper alloy by solving the thermomechanical inverse problem. The achieved acceleration made it possible to use the developed parallel code in the control software of the laboratory setup for laser dieless drawing.
