Rail transport through the use of electric traction is more friendly for environment than other means of transport. It has a lot of benefits, mainly: the possibility of mass transport using as little energy as possible per one passenger, reducing crowd, reducing congestion, lower emission of pollution, weatherproof, more safety, regularity of travelling. As we can see from the above mentioned benefits, public tram transport is one of the most popular means in Poland. Tram market in Poland is one of the largest in the world. Nowadays we have 14 thousand tram lines used by 16 companies, which gives a total of above 3600 cars. We have many types of trams exploited at present. The most popular are cars 105Na, characterized by low comfort for passengers, too low durability and high energy consumption. Because these cars are at present exploited, on the basis of their structure many different modernizations are made. The examples could be two types of cars : 204WrAs and 205WrAs , which have been produced since 2005 by the Wrocław PROTRAM Company. The largest Polish cities also use a modern trams stock produced by the largest Polish construction companies. One of the examples is recently using five-cars type 120Na produced by PESA company. This article presents results of measurements of energy consumptions of trams 105Na using traditional start –up resistance and trams PROTRAM 205WrAs type with asynchronous propulsion system in IGTB technology. Then the energy consumption is compared with data obtained from manufacturer of a modern tram PESA 120Na, working in the same conditions – asynchronous propulsion system.

Opis:
Discussed methodology of forecasting and forecast of demand for energy carriers have been presented in two parts. In first part has been given forecast of freight road transport volumes up to the year 2020. Estimated structure of the fleet in the initial period of the forecast. Variant forecast of the fleet size and its structure according to categories and age. In this part has been given forecast of demand for energy carriers by lorries. When forecasting the scale of demand for individual energy carriers by lorries in a given year, the following issues were taken into account: estimated numbers of vehicles registered according to categories and production periods, an estimated average consumption offuels per 100 km of mileage according to specified categories of vehicles and their production periods, estimated average annual mileages of vehicles according to categories and production periods. A drop in the use of petrol by lorries in Poland is expected to have taken place by the year 2020. The estimated forecast level amounts to 315-325 Gg. The use of petrol in 2020 would decrease to the level of 55-57% of the consumption in the initial period of the forecast. An estimated increase in the demand for diesel fuels by lorries is expected to take place in Poland in 2020 and it is envisaged to reach the level of 5848-7680 Gg, which compared to the consumption in the initial period of the forecast, would be tantamount to an increase dynamics of 170-223%. The demand for LPG fuels by lorries in 2020 should amount to 264-287 Gg, (an increase of 147-160% compared to the initial period of the forecast). The demand for CNG fuel by lorries in 2020 would reach 61-68 Gg.

Despite the application of a series of universally acknowledged procedural principles, the manufacture of elements is a process in which the skills and professional experience of the planner are of continued importance. This leads to a certain degree of subjectivity in evaluation as well as to arbitrariness and variety in the solutions presented by process engineers. By introducing evaluations of the energy consumption of processes as an additional criterion, it is possible to make planning more objective, to reduce arbitrariness in the selection of production technologies, and to reduce energy consumption and manufacturing costs. An example of the application of energy consumption indices in the design of a selected manufacturing process is given in this article.

Subject and purpose of work: The aim of the study is to identify methodological problems, which may be encountered during the preparation of the energy balance of a territorial unit, along with indications of ways to solve them. Materials and methods: Problems were identified during the preparation of the energy balance for two selected rural communes and then they were investigated with reference to the literature on this subject. Results: Estimating the energy demand of a local government unit requires proper identification of the groups of energy consumers, divided into facilities owned or co-owned by communes and ones independent from commune authorities. The latter group is divided further, into households, businesses, farms. For each of the users different methods of obtaining data may be needed: a survey and analysis of statistical data, analysis of financial documents, evaluation of the buildings’ age. Generally, however, preparing an energy balance statement requires many simultaneous approaches, and the combination of multi-criterion analysis provides the most reliable picture of the problem. Conclusions: The scope of the data needed to compile an energy balance statement for local government units, depends on the purpose of the developed analysis. Methodological handbooks and training materials on this subject are helpful, but the developed methodologies may need to be modified and adapted to specific conditions.
Przedmiot i cel pracy: Celem pracy jest wskazanie problemów metodycznych, na jakie napotkać można podczas sporządzania bilansu energetycznego jednostki terytorialnej, wraz ze wskazaniami sposobów ich rozwiązania. Materiały i metody: Problemy zidentyfikowano podczas sporządzania bilansu energetycznego dwu wybranych gmin wiejskich, a następnie skonfrontowano z literaturą przedmiotu. Wyniki: Oszacowanie zapotrzebowania na energię w jednostce samorządu terytorialnego wymaga właściwego określenia grup odbiorców energii w podziale na obiekty będące własnością lub współwłasnością gminy oraz niezależne od władz gminy. Druga grupa dzieli się dalej, na gospodarstwa domowe, przedsiębiorstwa, gospodarstwa rolne. Dla każdej z grup odbiorców mogą być potrzebne odmienne metody pozyskania danych: badanie ankietowe, analiza danych statystycznych, analiza dokumentów finansowych, ocena wieku budynków. Najczęściej jednak sporządzenie bilansu energetycznego wymaga stosowania wielu podejść równocześnie, a połączenie wyników analizy wielokryterialnej daje najbardziej rzetelny obraz badanego problemu. Wnioski: Zakres danych, potrzebnych do sporządzenia bilansu energetycznego jednostki samorządu terytorialnego, zależy od celu opracowania analizy. Poradniki metodyczne i materiały szkoleniowe na ten temat są pomocne, jednak opracowane metodyki mogą wymagać modyfikacji i dostosowania do konkretnych warunków.

One of the most important elements determining the assessment of the quality of trolleybuses and buses in public transport is the operating cost which comprises mainly the cost of power or fuel consumption. The knowledge of economic properties of new vehicles is justified when the decision about their purchase is being made. The information about vehicles which have not been used in the company so far comes mainly from the protocols of homologation tests as well as the opinions of other users. In both cases such knowledge is insufficient against the expected information providing for specific driving conditions in urban traffic. Chosen driving tests applied for the evaluation of energy consumption of trolleybuses and buses operation are presented in the article. Working conditions of the trolleybus were analysed on the basis of the comparative tests of the bus and the trolleybus for a chosen communication line in Lublin. On the basis of the determined characteristics describing working conditions of the vehicles constituting public transport in Lublin, the MPKPL test was drawn up and the analysis of findings was carried out for a chosen communication line.

W literaturze istnieje wiele prognoz krajowego zapotrzebowania na energię elektryczną, które były wykonane z zaangażowaniem znacznych środków finansowych. Większość z tych prognoz była znacznie przeszacowana, ponieważ nie sprawdziła się w porównaniu z rzeczywistym zapotrzebowaniem na energię elektryczną. Prognozy te nie spełniały również oczekiwań użytkowników dla których były przeznaczone. W tej pracy dokonano oceny prognozy krajowego zapotrzebowania na energię elektryczną opracowanej przez autora w 2004 roku. Prognoza ta została opracowana metodą wykorzystującą średnioroczne przyrosty dochodu narodowego wytworzonego oraz wskaźników elastyczności zapotrzebowania na energię elektryczną względem tego dochodu. Wykazano, że opracowana prognoza jest zgodna z faktycznym zużyciem energii elektrycznej do 2012 roku. Na podstawie danych statystycznych wyznaczono wartości współczynników elastyczności i elektrochłonności produktu krajowego brutto (PKB) dla lat 2004 - 2012. Stwierdzono znaczny spadek elektrochłonności PKB w tych latach. Wykorzystując metodę zastosowaną w 2004 roku przedstawiono również prognozę krajowego zapotrzebowania na energię elektryczną do 2030 roku.
There are a lot of forecasts of domestic electricity demand in the literature which were made by using a lot of finance cost. Most of those forecasts were significantly exaggerated, and there were disagreed with real of electricity demand. All the forecasts do not come up to users for which were destined. In this paper it is given the estimation of forecast of domestic electricity demand proposed by author in 2004. This forecast was made using the indicators of growth of Gross Domestic Product and the electricity absorptive of Gross Domestic Product. It is shown that this forecast is in agreement with the real electricity demand until 2012. For the basics of statistical data consumption of electricity it is determined the indicators of electricity absorptive of Gross Domestic Product of Poland for years 2004 - 2012. It is shown that these indicators have considerably decreasing trend. Using the method proposed by authors in 2004, the new forecast of domestic electricity demand until 2030 is given.

The energy efficient spectrum sensing method is very important in cognitive radio (CR), since high power drain may limit its implementation in mobile applications. The spectrum sensing feature consumes more energy than other functional blocks, as it depends on continuous detection of the presence or absence of the primary user (PU). In this paper, we proposed two methods to reduce energy consumption of the spectrum sensing feature. The first is of a single stage variety with a reduced number of sensed samples. The other uses two stages. The first stage performs coarse sensing for many subchannels, and the best subchannel is forwarded for fine sensing in the second stage. The performance of the proposed methods is evaluated in AWGN channel and compared with the existing approach. The proposed methods are simulated using Matlab and ModelSim and are then hardware implemented using the Altera Cyclone II FPGA board. Simulation results show that the proposed methods offer an improvement in energy consumption with an acceptable reduction in the probability of detection. At Eb/N0 Eb/N0 Eb/N0 of 0 dB, the energy consumption is reduced by 50% and 72% in the first and second proposed method, respectively, compared to the traditional method (100% sensing).

Belt conveyors (BCs), because of their high efficiency, are widely used for bulk material handling in the mining industry. However, due to the high level of conveyors' energy consumption, the belt conveyor systems generate a large part of mining costs. Therefore, the current solutions mostly focus on implementing new management strategies, which find energy consumption as a key indicator in designing belt conveyor systems. Belt conveyor equipment selection, conveying systems, operation, applied mining technology are considered to be areas where improvement of belt conveyors' energy efficiency may be achieved. Moreover, they can be used to implement novel standards for BC equipment and the proposal of defining new quality standards and creating BCs' classification has been already outlined. The main idea of the paper is to compare the values of specific energy consumption (SEC) of BCs with regard to the inclination angle of a conveyor route which results from technological needs. The multiple regression is used to find a relationship between two basic independent variables – the volume of transported material and conveyor's inclination angle – and a dependent variable (SEC). The procedure enables to determine the value of SEC which is required for lifting the material. Presented results prove that the value of SEC required for lifting the material is crucial for the interpretation of the SEC value when it comes to energy efficiency comparison.

The work presents the analysis of electric energy consumption in individual buildings of the Ciechanów Dairy Cooperative in 2011. The plant includes a cool storage facility, a boiler house, a compression room and CIP (Cleaning In Place) stations. The plant manufactures liquid milk, cream, cheese, cottage cheese, cream cheese, butter and yoghurts. In 2011, the total electric energy consumption in the Cechanów Dairy Cooperative was 873114.0 kWh. The highest energy consumption (556430.0 kWh0 was recorded for the cooler (63.7% of total consumption) and the lowest for CIP stations (33084.0 kWh). The average electric energy consumption in the Cooperative plant was 72759.5 kWh, the highest (104800.6 kWh) in November and the lowest (40000.6 kWh) in March.

The article presents considerations regarding the possibility of recovering braking energy of a rail vehicle. The energy parameters obtained during acceleration and braking of the loaded railbus were taken as input data. It was found that over 13 kWh of energy was lost irretrievably in the braking resistors. Due to the speed of the discussed process, capacitors with an original design were proposed for energy recovery. For the purposes of this study, electrodes were fabricated using carbon derived from lignin carbonization at two distinct temperatures: 900°C and 1000°C. Based on the electrochemical tests carried out, it was found that the second proposed solution achieves a significantly better power-to-weight ratio – 13 kW/kg.

Concise review of krill processing methods for food, fodder and by-products under fishing trawler conditions is given. Quality of the products and energy consumption were the main evaluation criterions.
W ostatnim okresie przeprowadzono w Polsce intensywne badania zasobów kryla antarktycznego. W wyniku tego opracowano wiele oryginalnych technologii i urządzeń do pełnego wykorzystania kryla jako składnika żywności, pasz i produktów technicznych. Technologie te były sprawdzone częściowo w warunkach morskich. Ocena produktów żywnościowych z kryla, pod względem ich jakości, zużycia energii i wydajności linii technologicznych, pozwala na wyciągnięcie następujących wniosków: - produkcja paszy z kryla powinna być ograniczona ze względu na wysokie zużycie energii, - ponad 50% złowionego kryla powinno być użyte do produkcji żywności, szczególnie roller peeled tail, meat. Taki system wykorzystania kryla jest zupełnie realny w odniesieniu do zużycia energii i nie różni się od tradycyjnego przetwarzania ryb na statkach. Nie powoduje on żadnego wzrostu zagrożenia życia na Oceanie Południowym.

Recently, there has been an increasing need for secure, efficient, and simple notification methods for wireless systems. Such systems are meant to provide users with precise tools best suited for work or leisure environments, and a lot of effort has been put into creating a multitude of applications. At the same time, however, not much research has been made into determining which of the available protocols are best suited for each individual task. A number of basic notification methods are presented here, and tests have been performed for the most-promising ones. An attempt has been made to determine which of the methods have the best throughput, latency, security, and other characteristics. A comprehensive comparison is provided, which can be used to select the right method for each individual project. Finally, conclusions are provided, and the results from all of the tests conducted are discussed.

Opis:
Not only as a result of the current energy crisis, opportunities to save energy are a highly focused topic in production. For this reason, the article proposes an approach to evaluate the part-specific energy consumption of production systems by utilization of simulation methods. As an application example, a Comau 6-axis robot is chosen, of which a physically based model is created in the CAE software SimulationX. This model is then exported as a Functional Mock-Up Unit (FMU) and co-simulated within a virtual commissioning environment. Virtual commissioning enables a controller to be connected to a model. Within a Software-in-the-Loop simulation, this is a virtual control system. Based on the movement specifications from the virtual controller, the movement behaviour of the machine can be simulated in the virtual commissioning tool ISG-virtuos and the FMU returns the associated power and energy curve as a result variable. For further use, this kind of enhanced simulation models provides the possibility to optimize the utilization of production systems for specific processes in the context of a complete production line or factory.

The extrusion of rapeseed with pea enables the production of a concentrate which can be a partial substitute of soybean meal. A new method of evaluating the obtained extrudates was elaborated.
Zbadano możliwości wytłaczania ziarna rzepaku z nośnikiem energetyczno-białkowym (tab. 2, 4, 5) w celu otrzymania częściowego zamiennika śruty sojowej w żywieniu zwierząt. W I części przedstawiono wyniki wstępnych badań nad wytłaczaniem rzepaku z pszenicą, grochem i jęczmieniem (tab. 3, 4, 6). Proces wytłaczania prowadzono w ekstruderze firmy Clextral typ BC 45 (d. Creusot-Loire) charakteryzującym się posiadaniem dwóch ślimaków wytłaczających, współprzenikających się i zbudowanych modułowo z możliwością różnego umiejscowienia poszczególnych elementów, zwłaszcza ze zwojami przeciwnymi i elementami zagniatającymi. Najefektowniejszym nośnikiem dla rzepaku okazał się groch. W określonych warunkach ekstrudowania produkt zawierający 30% rzepaku ma odpowiednią charakterystyk technologiczną: wilgotność 11,7%, twardość 3,9 kG oraz plastyczność 73% (tab. 6). Otrzymane wyniki twardości i plastyczności ekstrudatu, wg nowo opracowanej metody ich oznaczania za pomocą teksturometru Zenken wykazały istotną zależność z wynikami twardości otrzymanymi metodą klasyczną za pomocą kompresometru Lhomargy (test dla oznaczania twardości pasz granulowanych). Różnice wyników obydwu metod są rzędu kilku procent [29]. Ustalono, że najniższe wartości twardości i plastyczności, oznaczane nową metodą, wynoszą odpowiednio 3,5 kG oraz 70-75%.

For the third time in the history of humankind, it is trying to implement e-mobility. There is a reasonable hope that this attempt will succeed this time. E-mobility is generally regarded as a zero emission. This sentence can only be true in a very small scope, as only in relation to selected parameters and in a very limited its dimension. The situation can change radically. If it will be take into account, the emissions in the production of electricity is necessary for the movement of this type of vehicles Second problem is the energy use amount. We know today that the energy consumption of electric cars, especially in long-term operation is too big. This general knowledge is not confirmed by research results. Both relevant databases and methods of their analysis are missing. This is an unfavourable situation because it is not possible to verify the effects of various changes introduced e.g. in the construction or technology of cars. This publication can be included in those in which it is shown how to change this situation. The analysis of the results of long-term car use can be used as a verification of various development works, especially in e-mobility, which is only just starting. In the future, it will be need to create the appropriate “big data” databases and a number of tools to analyse the data collected there.

Mobile devices have become an integral part of our life and provide dozens of useful services to their users. However, usability of mobile devices is hindered by battery lifetime. Energy conservation can extend battery lifetime, however, any energy management policy requires accurate prediction of energy consumption, which is impossible without reliable energy measurement and estimation methods and tools. We present an analysis of the energy measurement methodologies and describe the implementations of the internal (profiling) software (proprietary, custom) and external software-based (Java API, Sensor API, GSM AT) energy measurement methodologies. The methods are applied to measure energy consumption on a variety of mobile devices (laptop PC, PDA, smart phone). A case study of measuring energy consumption on a mobile computer using 3DMark06 benchmarking software is presented.

In this paper we present a simple interactive calculator, which can be used in individual flats and houses, office buildings and educational institutes such as colleges and schools, for assessment of electricity use by different categories of equipment. The user indicates only type of equipment and its approximate time of work. The program outputs the structure of energy consumption in graphic format. The results of test procedures and the ways for improvement of the program are discussed.

Przedstawiono badania dotyczące określenia jednostkowej energii rozdrabniania rdzeni kolb kukurydzy cukrowej na rozdrabniaczu bijakowych w zależności od trzech średnic otworów sita oraz trzech odmian (Shaker, Boston i Garrison). Najwyższe wartości jednostkowej energii rozdrabniania wystąpiły dla odmiany Shaker, a najniższe dla odmiany Garrison. Wraz ze zwiększaniem średnicy otworów sita następował spadek jednostkowej energii rozdrabniania średnio, dla badanych odmian, o około 33%.
The study presents the research concerning determination of specific energy consumption of grinding process of sweetcorn cobs stems in a beater grinder depending on three diameters of sieve meshes and on three varieties (Shaker, Boston and Garrison). The highest values of specific energy consumption of grinding occurred for Shaker variety and the lowest for Garrison variety. Simultaneously with increasing diameter of sieve meshes, decrease of specific energy consumption of grinding occurred for the tested varieties at average 33%.

The effect of different shapes of cutting edges of knives on electric energy consumption during model comminution of sausage meat mixtures in a mechanical cutter was determined.
W związku z montowaniem w ostatnim czasie w kutrach przemysłowych noży o różnym kształcie linii cięcia podjęto badania mające na celu usta lenie wpływu wybranych kształtów noży kutra na nakład energii elektrycznej w procesie kutrowania farszów wędlinowych. Badania prowadzono w układzie modelowym na kutrze o pojemności 8 dm³. Na wale nożowym montowano każdorazowo po 3 noże w kształcie wycinka spirali logarytmicznej o współczynniku poślizgu λ = 1,0, wycinka łuku okręgu (noże sierpowe) oraz linii łamanej. Materiałem badawczym było mięso wieprzowe ścięgniste z 40% dodatkiem wody, 2% dodatkiem soli kuchennej oraz środkami peklującymi. Czas kutrowania wynosił 15 min. Pomiaru poboru prądu przez silnik napędzający wał nożowy dokonywano za pomocą przyrządu rejestrującego Wareg II. Analiza statystyczna wyników badań wykazała istotny wpływ rodzaju noży na zużycie energii elektrycznej w procesie kutrowania farszów. Najmniejsze zużycie energii elektrycznej stwierdzono przy zastosowaniu noży w kształcie linii łamanej, a największe dla noży sierpowych. Niezależnie od wpływu kształtu linii cięcia noży. stwierdzono również różnicę w poborze mocy przez silnik kutra w poszczególnych czasach kutrowania. Mianowicie maksimum poboru mocy stwierdzono w 2-3 min kutrowania. W miarę upływu czasu kutrowania pobór mocy zmniejszył się.

Increasing the energy efficiency has become a key concern in manufacturing companies due to the increased energy costs and the environmental impacts. More efficient energy saving can make the most economic contribution towards solving these problems in the short run. Companies’ governments are striving to identify the most effective measures to improve energy efficiency in manufacturing processes. The specific energy consumption (SEC) is a key performance indicator used to measure the energy consumed per product. Therefore, an improvement of this value contributes to decouple of economic growth from related increase of energy consumption. This paper highlights the needs of manufacturing companies for integrating energy performance in production management. This work focuses on studying the impact of implementing lean production concepts on decreasing the SEC in a food processing organization. The reduction of SEC can be achieved by increasing the total efficiency of the production line. Implementing the lean production methodology by using energy management model achieve an increase in the production output. The lean production used to eliminate all kinds of waste in production, while using the same input resources such as raw material and energy. The main source of waste found on the production line is the defective product and time waste during changeover and manual process. The achieved results showed that the SEC improved by 15.1% by reducing the lean wastes in the production line. Implementation of lean methodology has a great impact on improving the energy saving by reducing the specific energy consumption in the organization. The SEC is a key performance indicator used to measure the efficiency of a production line or a machine in relation to its production. Energy management model is useful in identifying the area of improvement and the energy saving measure.

The literature reveals that linear models do not accurately represent the asymmetric relationship between economic growth and energy consumption (EC). To fill this gap, we examined the asymmetric relationship between EC and economic growth in a non-linear panel autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) framework of 85 countries as a whole sample and of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa (BRICS), the Next Eleven, Big Four in Western Europe, Asia-Pacific region, Group of Seven, South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) and the Arab League as a sub-sample analysis from 1977 to 2014. A second generational unit root test has been applied to check the problem of cross-sectional dependency. Asymmetric contegration was employed to analyse the co-integration between the variables of interest. Long-run and short-run estimates have been calculated using the non-linear panel ARDL method. Results indicate that positive shocks to energy use tend to have a growth-enhancing effect in ECO and the Next Eleven while in the rest of the regions, the effect is growth con- traction. Moreover, economic recovery from a positive shock to energy use is the case in the Arab League, Asia-Pacific region, Group of Seven and in the whole sample. However, a negative shock to EC is observed in the Group of Seven, Asia Pacific region, Big Four in Western Europe and ECO, and the whole sample worsens the economic contraction. We can deduct from this study’s results that information on the asymmetric relationship between the subject variables is needed to design sound economic policy decisions across different economic regions.

In this work the energy needed for reciprocating screw motion and heating of the barrel were examined by changing various parameters of the injection molding process, measuring the process characteristics and calculating the corresponding values of SEC (specific energy consumption). Five thermoplastic polymers were examined. It was found that the optimal condition from the energy consumption point of view to perform the plasticization of thermoplastic polymers on the research position is low value of rotational velocity of the screw. Furthermore, an increase of the SEC value with increasing barrel temperature was shown. It was also found that changes of back pressure do not affect the energy consumption of the plasticizing system of the injection molding machine.
Badano zużycie energii potrzebnej na wykonanie ruchu posuwisto-obrotowego ślimaka oraz ogrzewanie cylindra w procesie wtryskiwania prowadzonym w zmiennych warunkach procesowych. Dokonano pomiaru charakterystyk wyjściowych procesu wtryskiwania oraz wyznaczono na ich podstawie wartości SEC (jednostkowego zużycia energii). Przetwarzano pięć typowych polimerów termoplastycznych. Stwierdzono, że mała prędkość obrotowa ślimaka zapewnia optymalne, ze względu na niewielkie zużycie energii, warunki do prowadzenia procesu wtryskiwania na analizowanym stanowisku badawczym. Wykazano ilościowy wpływ wzrostu temperatury cylindra na wartość SEC, a także brak wpływu zmiany ciśnienia uplastyczniania na zużycie energii przez układ uplastyczniający wtryskarki.

The paper presents theoretical evaluation of the effect of operating parameters on electric vehicle energy consumption and driving range. The objective of this study was to analyse the effect of temperature (at constant pressure) and traction properties on the energy consumption and driving range related to it of a chosen electric vehicle. The test methods assumed the analysis of parameters of the test object based on a simulation model. The evaluation involved a Nissan Leaf vehicle equipped with an electric motor, the torque characteristic curve of which was used in the test model. The values of basic and additional resistance to motion for the adopted conditions: external temperature and pressure-dependent air density, and vehicle technical parameters, such as its weight, capacitance of batteries, vehicle dimensions, type of drive system, drag coefficient and tyre dimensions, were determined. Basing on these data and the characteristic curve of engine torque, electric vehicle energy consumption and driving range were determined. The following relationships were obtained because of the analysis: vehicle energy consumption / vehicle driving range and external temperature, vehicle energy consumption / vehicle driving range and vehicle acceleration, vehicle energy consumption / vehicle driving range and acclivity slope. It was proven that the operating parameters could considerably increase the energy consumption and the driving range of an electric vehicle.

W pracy przedstawiono wyniki badań wpływu konfiguracji ślimaka ekstrudera na jednostkowe zużycie energii, stopień ekspansji i uzyskiwaną temperaturę w czasie procesu. Badania przeprowadzono dla 3 konfiguracji ślimaka i dwóch wartości wilgotności podawanego surowca. Wyniki badań pozwoliły stwierdzić, że zmiana geometrii elementów roboczych ekstrudera ma wpływ na kształtowanie parametrów procesu ekstruzji.
The paper presents results of investigations on the influence of the configuration of an extruder screw on the specific energy consumption, degree of expansion and temperature produced while processing. The investigations were carried out for three configurations of a screw and two values of humidity of the row-material supplied. Experimental results revealed that a change in the geometry of working elements of the extruder have the effects on moulding the process parameters of extrusion.

The primary products of the power industry are electric energy and thermal energy. Thus, forecasting electric energy consumption is significant for short and long term energy planning. ARIMA model has adopted to forecast energy consumption because of its precise prediction for energy consumption. Our result has shown that annual average electric energy consumption will be 10,628 million kWh per year during 2019-2030 which approximately 3.3 percent growth per annum. At the moment, there is not a practice solution for the storage of electricity in Mongolia. Therefore, energy supply and demand have to be balanced in real-time for operational stability. Without an accurate forecast, the end-users may experience brownouts or even blackouts or the industry could be faced with sudden accidents due to the energy demand. For this reason, energy consumption forecasting is essential to power system stability and reliability.

The paper presents an analysis of energy consumption in a Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) used in actual road conditions. Therefore, the paper features a comparison of the consumption of energy obtained from fuel and from energy taken from the vehicle’s batteries for each travel with a total distance of 5000 km. The instantaneous energy consumption per travelling kilometre in actual operating conditions for a combustion engine mode are within the range of 233 to 1170 Wh/km and for an electric motor mode are within the range of 135 to 420 Wh/km. The average values amount to 894 Wh/km for the combustion engine and 208 Wh/km for the electric motor. The experimental data was used to develop curves for the total energy consumption per 100km of road section travelled divided into particular engine types (combustion/electric), demonstrating a close correlation to actual operating conditions. These values were referred to the tested passenger vehicle’s approval data in a WLTP test, with the average values of 303 Wh/km and CO2 emission of 23 g/km.

The paper considers plastic products in terms of energy consumption at two stages of their life cycle, i.e. at the stage of production of virgin polymers and at the stage of processing polymers into a finished product. Energy intake places were indicated and energy needs related to the production of polymer products were assessed. This allowed to indicate which polymer production and processing processes into finished products are particularly energy-intensive. The research shows that the greater the amount of energy accumulated in the plastic during its production, the greater the importance of this plastic in the post-consumer phase as a recyclable material. Recycling of waste plastics allows the use of this energy and reduces the consumption of virgin raw materials. Primary polymers were compared in terms of the energy efficiency index of their production process. This indicator is the quotient of the calorific value of the polymer and the energy consumption in its production. It shows how much of the energy input during the production of primary plastic can be recovered from the thermal processing of the waste plastic. The highest indicator value was obtained for polyethylene and polypropylene. It was found shown that the total energy consumption (converted to primary energy) of the PET virgin polymer production process and its processing into packaging reaches the value of 109.2–115.2 MJ/kg. This is almost five times the calorific value of this polymer.

Efficient air-cooling systems for hot climatic conditions, such as southern Europe, are required in the context of Nearly Zero Energy Buildings. Regenerative indirect evaporative coolers, RIEC, and desiccant regenerative indirect evaporative coolers, DRIEC, could be considered an innovative alternative to direct expansion conventional systems, DX. The main objective of this work was to evaluate the seasonal performance of three air-cooling systems in terms of thermal comfort, air quality and energy consumption in a standard classroom. Several energy simulations were carried out to evaluate these indexes in the climate zone of Lampedusa, in Mediterranean area, by using European Standards. The simulations were based on experimentally validated models. DRIEC system was the recommended system to serve a standard classroom in terms of thermal comfort and RIEC system in terms of air quality and energy consumption. DX system achieved similar comfort favourable conditions to DRIEC system. However, it always worked in III unfavourable category of air quality and consumed three times more than RIEC and DRIEC systems.

Opis:
The analysis of energy consumption in a hybrid drive system of a passenger car in real road conditions is an important factor determining its operational indicators. The article presents energy consumption analysis of a car equipped with an advanced Plug-in Hybrid Electric Drive (PHEV), driving in real road conditions on a test section of about 51 km covered in various environmental conditions and seasons. Particular attention was paid to the energy consumption resulting from the cooperation of two independent drive units, analyzed in terms of the total energy expenditure. The energy consumption obtained from fuel and energy collected from the car’s batteries for each run over the total distance of 12 500 km was summarized. The instantaneous values of energy consumption for the hybrid drive per kilometer of distance traveled in car’s real operating conditions range from 0.6 to 1.4 MJ/km, with lower values relating to the vehicle operation only with electric drive. The upper range applies to the internal combustion engine, which increases not only the energy expenditure in the TTW (Tank-to-Wheel) system, but also CO2 emissions to the environment. Based on the experimental data, the curves of total energy consumption per kilometer of the road section traveled were determined, showing a close correlation with the actual operating conditions. Obtained values were compared with homologation data from the WLTP test of the tested passenger car, where the average value of energy demand is 1.1 MJ/km and the CO2 emission is 23 g/km.

The predicted annual growth of energy consumption in ICT by 4% towards 2020, despite improvements and efficiency gains in technology, is challenging our ability to claim that ICT is providing overall gains in energy efficiency and Carbon Imprint as computers and networks are increasingly used in all sectors of activity. Thus we must find means to limit this increase and preserve quality of service (QoS) in computer systems and networks. Since the energy consumed in ICT is related to system load, ]this paper discusses the choice of system load that offers the best trade-off between energy consumption and QoS.We use both simple queueing models and measurements to develop and illustrate the results. A discussion is also provided regarding future research directions.

Badania zostały zrealizowane w latach 2002-2004. Przeprowadzono je na terenie województwa zachodniopomorskiego, w dwóch systemach produkcji: ekologicznym i konwencjonalnym. W ekologicznej uprawie ziemniaków, żyta i gryki poniesiono średnio o 21,4% większe nakłady energetyczne na wytworzenie plonu. W członie zmianowania ziemniaki - żyto - gryka, efektywniejsza energetycznie, w porównaniu z produkcją konwencjonalną, była ekologiczna uprawa żyta, zdecydowanie nieefektywna - gryki. Na wytworzenie jednostki plonu w ekologicznej uprawie żyta zużyto o 17,3% mniej energii niż w systemie konwencjonalnym, na uprawę gryki o 75% energii więcej. Analizy efektywności energetycznej produkcji roślinnej, w systemie rolnictwa ekologicznego, nie powinny ograniczać się do pojedynczych upraw. Należy prowadzić je kompleksowo, najlepiej w ogniwach lub członach zmianowania.
In organic cultivation of potatoes, rye and buckwheat expenditure of energy was higher of 21.4% for crop production. At the crop rotation: potatoes-rye-buckwheat, organic farming of rye was most effective from the point of view of energy in comparison with conventional production. Definitely inefficient - buckwheat. 17.3% less of energy were used in organic cultivation of rye to produce unit yield than in conventional systems. The cultivation of buckwheat, uses 75% of energy more. Analysis of energy consumption efficiency in crop production in organic farming, should not be limited to a single crop.

Badania obejmowały nakłady energii potrzebnej do wyprodukowania następujących gatunków pieczywa: pszenno-żytniego, pszennego, graham, drożdżówek i chleba bułkowego. W pracy przedstawiono wyniki dotyczące zużycia energii potrzebnych na wyprodukowanie: jednej sztuki pieczywa, jednego kilograma pieczywa, w czasie jednej godziny trwania procesu technologicznego, na przykładzie dwóch piekarni. Najwyższy udział (ponad 70%) w strukturze zużycia energii zajmuje wypiek. Najmniej energii zużywa się na przesiewanie mąki i wstępne miesienie. Spośród analizowanych wyrobów piekarniczych najmniejsze jednostkowe zużycie energii odnotowano dla produkcji chleba pszenno-żytniego (0,249 MJ na 1 kg) a największe przy produkcji pieczywa graham (3,399 MJ na 1 kg).
The scope of tests included expenditure of energy needed to manufacture the following bakery product types: wheat-rye, wheat, graham, buns, and roll bread. The paper presents obtained results concerning energy consumption for production of single bread piece and one kilogram of bread during one hour of manufacturing process. Two bakeries were used as an example. Baking has the largest share (over 70%) in the energy consumption structure. The least energy is consumed for flour sieving and preliminary kneading. Among all analysed bakery products, the lowest unit energy consumption was observed for wheat-rye bread production (0.249 MJ per 1kg), and the highest - for graham bread production (3.399 MJ per 1kg).

The article discusses the issue of the evaluation of IT solutions in terms of sustainable development. Information systems manufacturers are increasingly showing interest in the market of pro-environmental services. The products they offer are to fit into the sector related to the reduction of energy intensity, renewable energy sources as well as waste management and recycling. However, there are many doubts about the benefits as well as the legitimacy of using such solutions. The article attempts a preliminary analysis of the potential benefits and problems that may occur using the example of a household energy consumption management system. The analysis takes into account the negative environmental and social effects that co-occur in the dissemination of IT solutions. These effects, often overlooked or not considered at all, constitute an important component of growth barriers for the entire ICT sector.

W pracy przeanalizowano wpływ bezinercyjnych układów odciążających w układach napędowych członów manipulatora na obciążenia par kinematycznych i zużycie energii. Przeprowadzono analizę porównawczą energochłonności manipulatora typu 3R bez układów odciążających, z manipulatorem, w którym takie układy zastosowano. Wyznaczono przebiegi obciążeń par kinematycznych momentami sił statycznych i przebiegi zużywanej energii przez układy napędowe. Do obliczeń wykorzystano autorskie programy kinematyka i dynamika oraz program MathCad 2001.
The effectiveness of inertialess unloading systems situated within the drives of manipulator elements on the loading courses of kinematic pairs and energy consumption, respectively has been examined in the paper. A comparative analysis of energy consumption has been carried out between 3R type manipulators with and without the unloading systems, respectively. The courses of static moments acting upon kinematic pairs have been determined together with the energy consumption courses in driving systems. Calculations were made using the "kinematics and dynamics" program developed by the author and the Mathcad 2001 software package.

The paper concerns selected environmental problems of crushing devices operation. The main scope was to determine the dust emission level of hammer, cone and jaw crusher, operating in plant conditions. There were registered dust emissions for these crushers along with determination their distributions. There were also introduced indices that enable us to estimate environmental burdensome of particular crusher, with taking into account technological conditions (comminution ratio, throughput). It appeared that the jaw crusher, despite the highest dust emission level, turned out to be of less environmental nuisance, considering its throughput and achieved comminution ratio.

This research presents a 3D FE method for the simulation of the variable reluctance stepper motor dynamics. The proposed model is used to obtain the optimal minimum energy control law that minimizes the energy injected by the controller. The method is based on the strong coupling of field - circuit equations and extended to eddy current, motion and nonlinearity problem. The linearization technique for the coupled problem is presented. Also the lamination of the motor core is considered. In the paper the open - loop control problem is analyzed. The proposed model is validated by the comparison with measurements. Next, to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed optimal minimum energy control method is applied. In both cases, the examination of the variable reluctance stepper motor dynamics and the steel loss in the core is presented and compared.

In this work, the authors focused on analyzing the energy efficiency and dynamics during car acceleration, featuring investigation of acceleration dynamics under various acceleration intensities. The tests were performed in the speed range between 45 km/h and 120 km/h, at a constant gear ratio. This enabled obtaining variable dynamic parameters of the acceleration process, ranging from about 0.1 to 1.4 m/s2, and recording variation in fuel consumption from 6.28 to 27.03 dm3/100km. The study focused on determining the relation between fuel consumption, energy efficiency and vehicle acceleration depending on the available drivetrain power. The relation between fuel consumption and vehicle acceleration was described by using the dynamic index. The proposed dynamic index takes into account the energy (from burned fuel) and vehicle acceleration intensity to obtain an objective metric for characterizing the acceleration process. The aforementioned index takes the form of the passenger car movement energy quality index and can be related to widely known physical properties, thus ensuring its universality. The index expresses the energy expenditure within the time needed to accelerate a vehicle weighing 1kg by a 1m distance. As opposed to other criteria that are applied to the assessment of passenger cars dynamics, the index shows a high determination coefficient R2 in excess of 0.99, and can be used as a universal metric to test other vehicle types.

Opis:
The ceramic tile manufacturing process uses a lot of energy, mainly thermal energy, and to a lesser extent electric energy. Total energy costs account for between 50% and 55% of average direct manufacturing costs. Fossil fuel combustion, such as natural gas combustion, produces carbon dioxide emissions. Therefore, energy consumption and emissions issues are vitally important for both environmental effects and process costs in ceramic tile manufacturing. The wet process of granule production systems including wet grinding and spray drying is widely used for the production of granules. Although there is high energy consumption for the water evaporation in the spray dryer, it ensures to produce high quality tile for many years. In this study, important granule properties were introduced for a novel dry granule production system. In the successful application of a dry granulation system, the conformity of produced granules is vitally important such as particle size distribution, bulk density, flow properties, and moisture of granules and conformity for the pressing process. This paper includes the comparative studies for properties of granules produced in spray dryer and new dry granule preparation systems and the full results of the industrial trials with these granules. The cost comparison of both granule production systems was also made for the same raw material usage. The natural gas consumption and water consumption were reduced respectively from 46 to 15 m3/ton and from 540 to 95 liters/ton in the new dry granulation system while electricity consumption and maintenance costs remain almost the same in both systems.
