Presented here is a review of the book by Michael Wooldridge The Road to Conscious Machines: The Story of AI. The book was published in 2021 by Pelican Publishing Company. The book presents a philosophical exploration of the AI-related quest to understand the essence of our minds, ethics, and consciousness. Nonetheless, the book is unconventional as it focuses on failures of past AI programs rather than on AI success stories. The author also indicates the possible pathways to develop new, more efficient AI paradigms. The short technical section at the end of the book offers more in-depth information on topics like Prolog, Bayesian, and deep neural networks.

The conducted review presents the possibility of using artificial neural networks in sectors related to environmental protection, agriculture, forestry, land uses, groundwater and bathymetric. Today there is a lot of research in these areas with different research methodologies. The result is the improvement of decision-making processes, design, and prediction of certain events that, with appropriate intervention, can prevent severe consequences for society. The review shows the capabilities to optimize and automate the processes of modeling urban and land dynamics. It examines the forecasts of assessment of the damage caused by natural phenomena. Detection of environmental changes via the analysis of certain time intervals and classification of objects on the basis of different images is presented. The practical aspects of this work include the ability to choose the correct artificial neural network model depending on the complexity of the problem. This factor is a novel element since previously reviewed articles did not encounter a study of the correlation between the chosen model or algorithm, depending on the use case or area of the problem. This article seeks to outline the reason for the interest in artificial intelligence. Its purpose is to find answers to the following questions: How can artificial neural networks be used for spatial analysis? What does the implementation of detailed algorithms depend on? It is proved that an artificial intelligence approach can be an effective and powerful tool in various domains where spatial aspects are important.

Artificial Intelligence has made impressive progress in the past few decades, and, especially in the last couple of years, so many different systems able to simulate human response in a very realistic and coherent way have been made available to the general public. This has opened the road to new possibilities for the use of AI in a variety of contexts, starting from the use of generative AI to the shortening of otherwise long working tasks (such as programming). However, it also created unforeseen issues that have yet to be addressed, since there is a lack of legal and ethical guidelines for the use of these new AI tools. This article analyses some of the most controversial applications of these new AI systems, highlighting both problems and ethical concerns, as well as the possible ways in which they can be dealt with in the future.

This article presents an analysis of the possibilities of using the pre-degraded GoogLeNet artificial neural network to classify inland vessels. Inland water authorities monitor the intensity of the vessels via CCTV. Such classification seems to be an improvement in their statutory tasks. The automatic classification of the inland vessels from video recording is a one of the main objectives of the Automatic Ship Recognition and Identification (SHREC) project. The image repository for the training purposes consists about 6,000 images of different categories of the vessels. Some images were gathered from internet websites, and some were collected by the project’s video cameras. The GoogLeNet network was trained and tested using 11 variants. These variants assumed modifications of image sets representing (e.g., change in the number of classes, change of class types, initial reconstruction of images, removal of images of insufficient quality). The final result of the classification quality was 83.6%. The newly obtained neural network can be an extension and a component of a comprehensive geoinformatics system for vessel recognition.

The objective of reliability prediction is to estimate a time of upcoming nonoperational state at the current operational state of a system through real-time monitoring operational parameters and/or performances. Hence, the predictive (proactive) maintenance in industrial systems involves operational conditions monitoring and online forecasting the useful life of machines equipment to support the decision-making process in selection of the best maintenance action to be carried out. The advanced warning of the failure possibility can bring the attention of machines operators and maintenance personnel to impending danger, and facilitate planning preventive and corrective operations, as well as inventory managing. This problem has been extensively studied in many scientific works, where the predictive models are based on the data-driven approaches that can be generally divided into statistical techniques (regression, ARMA models, Bayesian probability distribution estimation, etc.), grey system theory, and soft computing methods. The artificial intelligence is frequently addressed to the predictive problem by utilizing the learning capability of artificial neural network (ANN), and possibility of nonlinear mapping using fuzzy rules-based system (FRBS) or recognizing and optimizing data-derived pattern by using evolutionary algorithms. The paper is a survey of intelligent methods for failure prediction, and delivers the review of examples of scientific works presenting the computational intelligence-based approaches to predictive problem.

The task of the ship immune system is to differentiate self objects, i.e. objects that are not dangerous to our ship, from other objects that can be a potential threat. To perform the task the system makes use of a set of detectors. The detectors imitate signatures of non-self objects and they are generated at random. In order for the detectors to be able to effectively perform their task they have to be constructed in appropriate way. Since, random generators are used to form detectors the problem is to select a generator producing the most effective detectors. In order to select an appropriate generator, experiments were carried out. In the experiments, the task of the ship immune system was to differentiate self and non-self ship radio stations. Results of the experiments are presented at the end of the paper.

We describe a system allowing a mobile robot equipped with a 3D laser range finder to navigate in the indoor and outdoor environment. A global map of the environment is constructed, and the particle filter algorithm is used in order to accurately determine the position of the robot. Based on data from the laser only, the robot is able to recognize certain classes of objects like a floor, a door, a washbasin, or a wastebasket, and places like corridors or rooms. For complex objects, the recognition process is based on the Haar feature identification. When an object is detected and identified, its position is associated with the appropriate place in the global map, making it possible to give orders to the robot with the use of semantic labels, e.g., "go to the nearest wastebasket ". The obstaclefree path is generated using a Cellular Neural Network, accounting for travel costs with distance or ground quality. This path planning method is fast and in comparison with the potential field method it does not suffer from the local minima problem. We present some results of experiments performed in a real indoor environment.

Observation of nature is often the inspiration for unconventional and innovative ideas, proposals, suggestions, overall concepts for carrying out modeling phenomena and technical processes, economic, processing and analysis of statistical data. Artificial neural networks, genetic algorithms and evolutionary algorithms were created as an imitation of biological solutions. In recent years, the rapid development of immunological algorithms which are based on the action of the human immune system, has occurred. These algorithms are used in mathematics, engineering, problem solving in decision making, management, economics, finance. At the beginning of this article we describe the action of the human immune system, which is the basis for the construction of immune algorithms. Then we present the most important mechanisms influencing the operation and construction of the algorithms based on biological mechanisms of the immune system, in particular the negative selection, immune network, clonal selection. Then we describe how the elements and mechanisms of artificial immune system algorithms are represented to enable modeling, processing and analysis of data. In the last part of the article to illustrate the wide range of possibilities of using immune algorithms to solve various sorts of problems from a completely different fields, we present examples of applications that involve the assessment of bank borrowers, the task of coloring a graph belonging to combinatorial optimization problems, a multi-dimensional classification, fault detection.

Over the past two centuries, we have seen emerging types of crimes coming to the fore and traditional crimes taking on different forms or an entirely new scope altogether. Specificity of various cybercrimes are on the darknet, how computer fraud, computer attacks, the sexual abuse and sexual explotation of children through computer systems, etc. The emergence of the novel SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus in late 2019 and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic caused by the virus on 2020, has served to underscore the importance of combat to cibercrime. The reporting and research of crimes is crucial for police units and stakeholders in understanding and analysis cybercrime. So, the I.A and collection of stadistical data information are used to evaluations of crime, punishments or sanctions and identifying the people investigated or persecuted. Building cooperation on I.A with stakeholders throughout the public sector, industry, academia, as well as related security entities, intelligence agencies and so on, is an essential next step. Also, the cybersecurity plays an important role in defending individuals, industry and infrastructure. Security vendors focus on users, network, data, application or entire enterprises to provide solutions to detect and respond to cyber threats.

The study of colour changes under artificial weathering of light red meranti and yellow balau wood from Shorea genus. This paper deals with the change in colour of selected tropical wood species from Shorea genus such as light red meranti and yellow balau. The artificial weathering method was used to determine the colour stability of wood surface. The used ageing method consisted of alternating soaking wood in water, drying at a temperature of 70°C and UV irradiation exposure. The colour changes were evaluated using CIE L*C*h system. Changes of particular colour parameters (lightness L*, chroma C*, hue h) were determine as well as the total colour change ΔE*. The results showed that tested species of wood change their colour similarly under the influence of the artificial weathering (the changes in the tested wood appearance occurred in similar scope). Surfaces of tested wood species initially became darker and then lighter. The largest changes in intensity of the colour of wood took place at the beginning of artificial weathering process. The intensity of changes decreased with the progress of aging process.
Badanie zmian barwy drewna meranti różowego i balau jasnego z rodzaju Shorea. Przeprowadzono 60 cykli sztucznego starzenia.

The Atterberg limits display soil mechanical behavior and, therefore, can be so important for topics related to soil management. The aim of the research was to investigate the spatial variability of the Atterberg limits using three most common digital soil-mapping techniques, the pool of easy-to-obtain environmental variables and 85 soil samples in central Iran. The results showed that the maximum amount of liquid limit (LL) and plastic limit (PL) were obtained in the central, eastern and southeastern parts of the study area where the soil textural classes were loam and clay loam. The minimum amount of LL and PL were related to the northwestern parts of the study area, adjacent to the mountain regions, where the samples had high levels of sand content (>80%). The ranges of plasticity index (PI) in the study area were obtained between 0.01 to 4%. According to the leave-in-out cross-validation method, it should be highlighted the combination of artifiial bee colony algorithm (ABC) and artifiial neural network (ANN) techniques were the best model to predict the Atterberg limits in the study area, compared to the support vector machine and regression tree model. For instance, ABC-ANN could predict PI with RMSE, R2 and ME of 0.23, 0.91 and -0.03, respectively. Our fiding generally indicated that the proposed method can explain the most of variations of the Atterberg limits in the study area, and it could berecommended, therefore, as an indirect approach to assess soil mechanical properties in the arid regions, where the soil survey/sampling is difficult to undertake.

In recent years different voices have defended the necessity to achieve a legal treatment according to the new reality, given that, the relentless advance of robotics is paving its path to a profound social transformation. A society, which is progressively automated in the digitised global environment, requires to formulate the possibility of a taxation within the applied artificial intelligence framework. Several alternatives have been proposed under the tax environment, from regulating a tax referred to the task executed by robots until demanding a specific or additional taxation on account of their use and maintenance. A priori, the alternatives are numerous but these required to be assessed from the perspective regarding the minimum determinants of the tax justice. In this paper, we will analyse what challenges the taxation deals, considering the necessary postulates that impose the fundamental guidelines of the tax order. The material principles of justice are reinterpreted in their content by their own digital revolution. These notions must clearly report the design of any suggestion and respect satisfactorily the configuration of the essential elements of a tax. At this stage in the 21st century, it seems desirable to reflect from the scientific rigour on the real possibilities of influencing by means of using tax techniques. These techniques could specifically contribute to robotics, but without distorting and complicating further the taxation system.

W kolejnych rozdziałach omówiono istotę analityki predykcyjnej, proces uczenia maszyno-wego, budowę drzewa decyzyjnego, pokazano przykład regresji wykorzystującego AdaBoost.
This article describes the use of artificial intelligence in regression calculations. Models built in a traditional manner based on classical assumptions provide the most precise information possi-ble. The model building process itself is based on the initial selection of variables used to create it. Skillful selection of variables has a significant impact on the obtained parameters. Using the solu-tion presented in this work, we get a model with a pre-selected optimal training set. The following chapters discuss the essence of predictive analytics, the machine learning pro-cess, the construction of a decision tree, an example of regression using AdaBoost.

Opis:
The article discusses possibilities of implementing a neural network in a parallel way. The issues of implementation are illustrated with the example of the non-linear neural network. Parallel implementation of earlier mentioned neural network is written with the use of OpenCL library, which is a representative of software supporting general-purpose computing on graphics processor units (GPGPU). The obtained results demonstrate that some group of algorithms can be computed faster if they are implemented in a parallel way and run on a multi-core processor (CPU) or a graphics processing unit (GPU). In case of the GPU, the implemented algorithm should be divided into many threads in order to perform computations faster than on a multi-core CPU. In general, computations on a GPU should be performed when there is a need to process a large amount of data with the use of algorithm which is very well suited to parallel implementation.

Product and process design is time- and cost consuming [15]. To reduce the cost of product development, it is necessary to integrate product and process design. The proposed product planning approach integrates activities involved in product design and manufacturing process. The aim of this paper is to develop a method of knowledge integration about customer needs, product and process characteristics. The range of analyses is limited to mechanical product type manufacturing for institutional customers. Customer needs are focused on functional characteristics of the product and the trade characteristics include product price, timing and warranty. Integration of functional requirements, product and process characteristics is needed to select the best product from a catalogue and adapt it to particular customer needs. From the given set of products, where a product is described by a set of attributes, the subset is chosen which roughly satisfies customer needs. Basing on artificial intelligent (AI) methods, data related to redesign and production processes is estimated.

Multi-Agent Systems (MAS) have been widely used in many areas like modeling and simulation of complex phenomena, and distributed problem solving. Likewise, MAS have been used in cyber-security, to build more efficient Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS), namely Collaborative Intrusion Detection Systems (CIDS). This work presents a taxonomy for classifying the methods used to design intrusion detection systems, and how such methods were used alongside with MAS in order to build IDS that are deployed in distributed environments, resulting in the emergence of CIDS. The proposed taxonomy, consists of three parts: 1) general architecture of CIDS, 2) the used agent technology, and 3) decision techniques, in which used technologies are presented. The proposed taxonomy reviews and classifies the most relevant works in this topic and highlights open research issues in view of recent and emerging threats. Thus, this work provides a good insight regarding past, current, and future solutions for CIDS, and helps both researchers and professionals design more effective solutions.

Opis:
The paper concerns the identification process applied for a semi-empirical model of working process in the CI engine. The identification is based on pressure courses in the cylinder recorded during the experimental measurements on the test stand and is performed for estimation of values of the model parameters. Appropriate estimated values of the model parameters ensure minimization of the difference between measured and modelled pressure courses in the cylinder. The identification process can be divided into two stages. The first stage concerns identification of discrete values of the model parameters for a set of discrete engine operating conditions. The task of discrete identification is formulated as a dynamic optimisation task which is sohed using a genetic algorithm. The accuracy of the identification process is evaluated by comparison of measured and calculated values of main parameters which characterize the working cycle such as: the mean indicated pressure, thermal efficiency, the mean indicated pressure in working part of the cycle, maximal pressure of the cycle, the mass of the medium in the cylinder and the crankshaft angle for which the maximal pressure occurred. The second stage concerns generalization of the results for any technically possible engine operating conditions which is sohed by means of approximation. Feed-forward multilayer artificial neural networks are usedfor the approximation. The accuracy of the identification and some examples of verification of the model predictions are presented as well.

The article is devoted to the effects of the unsustainable development of human intelligence that began with the emergence of artificial intelligence do by the imbalance between the slow pace of development of natural (biological) intelligence and the accelerate pace of development of artificial (machine) intelligence. First, in a breakthrough phase of the anthropogenesis process, the development of natural intelligence transformed hominids, which had exceeded their natural abilities, into transhominids, that is, into humans. Now, the development of artificial intelligence transforms humans, which exceed their natural (innate) abilities into so-called transhumans. The progress of artificial intelligence is making a real revolution not only in the field of technology, but also in the economy, medicine, agriculture, transport, finance, insurance, trade, education, work, etc. Thanks to this, our world and we in it are changing at a dizzying pace. Artificial intelligence has become strategically the most important technology of the twenty-first century. The country with the most advanced artificial Therefore, the superpowers accelerate the development of artificial intelligence in competing for global domination. This implies a huge increase in financial outlays, which then are missing for the implementation of other important tasks, such, as for example, to fight poverty. Along with the development of artificial intelligence, its alienation progresses and this causes the dehumanization of people. The author presents a number of benefits and threats resulting from the use of artificial intelligence, which do not balance. Among the greatest threats, they are transhuman and artificial super-intelligence embodied in a super- robot. “The full development of artificial intelligence could spell the end of the human race. Man, who is limited by the slow evolution of biological intelligence, will not be able to compete with the transhuman, whose artificial intelligence is developing faster. He needs to be replaced by a transhuman”.1 Artificial intelligence is able to make man equal to God. It is not difficult to imagine what would happen if such a robot became the "god" who would rule the world and the cosmos, and on whose decisions or whims the fate of individuals, humanity, the world and the survival of our species would depend.

Opis:
Activation functions play an important role in artificial neural networks (ANNs) because they break the linearity in the data transformations that are performed by models. Thanks to the recent spike in interest around the topic of ANNs, new improvements to activation functions are emerging. The paper presents the results of research on the effectiveness of ANNs for ReLU, Leaky ReLU, ELU, and Swish activation functions. Four different data sets, and three different network architectures were used. Results show that Leaky ReLU, ELU and Swish functions work better in deep and more complex architectures which are to alleviate vanishing gradient and dead neurons problems. Neither of the three aforementioned functions comes ahead in accuracy in all used datasets, although Swish activation speeds up training considerably and ReLU is the fastest during prediction process.
Vanishing Gradient) i martwych neuronów (ang. Dead neurons). Opis:
In an artificial island construction project based on the large-scale marine reclamation land, the soil settlement is a key to affect the late safe operation of the whole field. To analyze the factors of the soil settlement in a marine reclamation project, the SEM method in the soil micro-structural analysis method is used to test and study six soil samples such as the representative silt, mucky silty clay, silty clay and clay in the area. The structural characteristics that affect the soil settlement are obtained by observing the SEM charts at different depths. By combining numerical calculation method of Terzaghi’s one-dimensional and Biot’s two-dimensional consolidation theory, the one-dimensional and two-dimensional creep models are established and the numerical calculation results of two consolidation theories are compared in order to predict the maximum settlement of the soils 100 years after completion. The analysis results indicate that the micro-structural characteristics are the essential factor to affect the settlement in this area. Based on numerical analysis of one-dimensional and two-dimensional settlement, the settlement law and trend obtained by two numerical analysis method is similar. The analysis of this paper can provide reference and guidance to the project related to the marine reclamation land.

Opis:
In this article a self-localization system for small mobile robots based on inexpensive cameras and unobtrusive, passive landmarks is presented and evaluated. The main contribution is the experimental evaluation of the hybrid field of view vision system for self-localization with artificial landmarks. The hybrid vision system consists of an omnidirectional, upward-looking camera with a mirror, and a typical, front-view camera. This configuration is inspired by the peripheral and foveal vision co-operation in animals. We demonstrate that the omnidirectional camera enables the robot to detect quickly landmark candidates and to track the already known landmarks in the environment. The front-view camera guided by the omnidirectional information enables precise measurements of the landmark position over extended distances. The passive landmarks are based on QR codes, which makes possible to easily include in the landmark pattern additional information relevant for navigation. We present evaluation of the positioning accuracy of the system mounted on a SanBot Mk II mobile robot. The experimental results demonstrate that the hybrid field of view vision system and the QR code landmarks enable the small mobile robot to navigate safely along extended paths in a typical home environment.

This work proposes a deep neural net (DNN) that accomplishes the reliable visual recognition of a chosen object captured with a webcam and moving in a 3D space. Autoencoding and substitutional reality are used to train a shallow net until it achieves zero tracking error in a discrete ambient. This trained individual is set to work in a real world closed loop system where images coming from a webcam produce displacement information for a moving region of interest (ROI) inside the own image. This loop gives rise to an emergent tracking behavior which creates a self-maintain flow of compressed space-time data. Next, short term memory elements are set to play a key role by creating new representations in terms of a space-time matrix. The obtained representations are delivery as input to a second shallow network which acts as ”recognizer”. A noise balanced learning method is used to fast train the recognizer with real-world images, giving rise to a simple and yet powerful robotic eye, with a slender neural processor that vigorously tracks and recognizes the chosen object. The system has been tested with real images in real time.

The starting point for its presentation in the EU perspective seems to be the Communication from the Commission to the European Parliament, the Council, the European Economic and Social Committee and the Committee of the Regions entitled „Artificial Intelligence for Europe”. This communication was preceded by the European Economic and Social Committee’s own-initiative opinion „Artificial intelligence: the impact of artificial intelligence on the (digital) single market, production, consumption, employment and society”. In the body of this opinion, the European Economic and Social Committee concluded that there is no single accepted and rigid definition of artificial intelligence.

Thanks to advances in machine learning in recent years the ability of AI agents to act independently of human oversight, respond to their environment, and interact with other machines has significantly increased, and is one step closer to human-like performance. For this reason, we can observe contemporary researchers’ efforts towards modeling agency in artificial systems. In this light, the aim of this paper is to develop a dual-process approach to the problem of AI agency perception, and to discuss possible triggers of various agency perceptions. The article discusses the agency attribution phenomenon, based on which theargument for the dual-process nature of agency perception is developed. Two distinct types of thinking (processing)involved in human reasoning on AI agency are suggested: Type 1 and Type 2. The first one is fast, automatic, routine, and often unconscious; the second is a slower, controlled, more conscious one. Thesetwo distinct types of processing can yield differing and sometimes conflicting results for human cognition and interaction. Thepreliminary philosophical findings may contribute to further investigations in philosophy of mind or cognitive psychology andcould also be empirically tested in HCI and UX studies.

The purpose of this article is to introduce some of the problems arising from the rapid development and raising the status of machines and the increasing disregard for human rights in the context of the use of cognitive technologies. Cognitive technologies are highly acclaimed and are being introduced into almost all aspects of life, especially in business. The article asks the question of whether the use of these technologies leads to a gradual humanization of machines while dehumanizing humans. The article is purely theoretical and based on a literature study of selected bibliographic items. On the basis of the analyzed texts an attempt was made to introduce the concept of artificial intelligence, cognitive technologies and algorithms. It also attempts to diagnose the state of work on the regulation of the legal situation related to the development of artificial intelligence and cognitive technologies, as well as the status of robots. The philosophical concept of dehumanization and its selected examples are also outlined. The discussion leads to the conclusion that the pace of development of cognitive technologies, overtaking the human ability to comprehend them, poses a threat of machines getting out of human control.

Immersed in the world dominated by pragmatism, contemporary man seems to be thinking and functioning only according to the criteria of effective acting. However, life experience, philosophical reflection, and the truth of Revelation lead to the conclusion that the laws of nature must be respected in the name of care for man and for one’s genuine good, even though they may, in certain cases, limit the effectiveness of acting and the possibility to acquire current profit. This article justifies the necessity to respect natural law in the sphere of transmission of  human life. The starting point of this scientific reflection is the theological vision of values and of the inviolability of human life on the basis of the description of creation from the Book of Genesis. The fundamental truths and moral norms are being neglected nowadays as—being so proud of modern technological achievements—man makes himself the creator and the master of human life. Although such activities seem impressive from the scientific point of view, they actually result in a number of serious contemporary and future threats. The second part of the article presents alarming aspects of  artificial interventions in the sphere of life transmission. By exposing the threats and by trying to prevent them in the sphere of infertility treatment, the Church opposes the methods of artificial insemination and becomes engaged in promoting naprotechnology which is a method that expresses genuine humanism, and which gives hope not only to the parents who want to have a baby but also to the mankind that longs for propitious future.

The aim of the considerations is to determine whether artificial intelligence units can take the place of humans in administrative proceedings ending with the issuance of discretionary decisions. The author starts from presenting the essence of discretionary decisions and guide the scope of judicial control over them. The presented considerations relate primarily to the potential placement of such devices in the “administrative justice system” that can be defined as artificial intelligence units in the strict sense. Therefore, this concerns devices for which human intervention is usually limited to switching on and technical supervision. However, the considerations can also be applied to such devices where human interference in their operation is slightly greater. It should be emphasized, however, that it this does not concern devices that are fully or almost fully controlled by humans.

Polyurethanes (PU) are nowadays one of the most widely used types of polymers for biomedical applications. The segmented nature of these materials enables to obtain both flexibility and mechanical strength within the same material. However, there is a need to modify a surface of PU in order to produce highly hemocompatible materials that can be used in fabrication of permanent blood-contacting devices such as vascular implants, valves or hearts. Among many types of modifications, hydrogel coating appears to be very promising. Such modification increases the hydrophilicity of PU which in turn causes an increase in the bio- and hemocompatibility of the material. The aim of presented study was to create a polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) hydrogel coating onto a surface of polyurethane. A possibility of using a free radical polymerization reaction was investigated. The obtained materials were analyzed in terms of durability, swelling ratio and contact angle. The FTIR-ATR analysis confirmed that polyurethane surfaces have been successfully coated with PVP.

Artificial neural networks can be applied for interpolation of function with multiple variables. Because of concurrent processing of data by neurons, that approach can be seen as hopeful alternative for numerical algorithms. From these reasons, the analysis of capabilities for some models of neural networks has been carried out in the purpose for identification of the underwater object properties. Features of the underwater objects can be recognized by characteristics of a amplitude according to the frequency of measured signals. The feed-forward multi-layer networks with different transfer functions have been applied. Those network models have been trained by some versions of back-propagation algorithm as well as the Levenberg-Marquardt gradient optimization technique. Finally, for determination of the amplitude for the frequency of signal by the two-layer network with the hidden layer of the radial neurons has been proposed.

The paper discusses the problem of forecasting lumpy demand which is typical for spare parts. Several prediction methods are presented in the article – traditional techniques based on time series and advanced methods that use Artificial Intelligence tools. The research conducted in the paper focuses on comparison of eight forecasting methods, including classical, hybrid and based on artificial neural networks. The aim of the paper is to assess the efficiency of lumpy demand forecasting methods that apply AI tools. The assessment is conducted by a comparison with traditional methods and it is based on Root Mean Square Errors (RMSE) and relative forecast errors (ex post) values. The article presents also a new approach to the lumpy demand forecasting issue – a method which combines regression modelling, information criteria and artificial neural networks.

A phenomenon of organic stones, today regarded as precious stones, namely pearls, is the fact that they have never gone out of fashion. Their enduring popularity has been exploited by the creators of artificial jewellery, which – like real pearls and their imitations – has accompanied humans since ancient times. The subject of this article is comments on the names of pearls and terms associated with pearls incorporated into “secondary jewels”. In the Polish language one- and multi-word names have been preserved, among others for: a) different types of these (less frequently used) natural stones and their (more frequently used) artificial counterparts, b) morphic pearls, c) chromatic qualities of pearls, d) the quantity and quality of stones used, e) the type of framing of both organic and artificial stones, f) metal studded with pearls, g) the complementary properties of artificial and natural pearls, h) names that reflect the diversity of “secondary” jewellery “pearl” designations and details that co-create them. These names are further complemented by professional jewellers’ terms related to pearls that enrich these artificial items of value. All the linguistic testimony or “linguistic data” presented in this proposal allows for the redefinition, verification, complementation, modification and thus expansion of the concept of artificial jewellery.

We live in a time when artificial intelligence and sustainability coexist and this requires a change of paradirgma. No one doubts that artificial intelligence is a means to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. The development and responsible use of artificial intelligence systems can contribute to the conservation of the environment, climate neutrality, energy efficiency and the use of renewable energies in sustainable cities, to the reduction of pollution of the oceans and seas, to the minimization of the carbon footprint, to the creation of circular economies, to the protection of wildlife as well as to the democratization of quality education. However, there is another relationship of this disruptive technology with sustainability and that is evidenced by the need for artificial intelligence itself to be sustainable, as well as ethical, safe and reliable, in accordance with the European Union’s own legislation. The lack of a clear concept of sustainable artificial intelligence puts us in front of the need to study how sustainability, people and the use of artificial intelligence are structured in the light of the principles that underpin digital and environmental sustainability and that allow us to create and generate sustainable digital environments.

Prediction becomes a very important stage in many activities. In case of distributing agricultural products we deal with a number of stimuli which consequently transform into the end effect. It is clear that the quality of those predictions has a great influence on subsequent stages in the production and distribution chain. Neural networks are a sophisticated technique of modeling capable of reflecting very complex functions. Modeling using artificial neural networks is used when exact mathematical description of investigated phenomenon is not known but its inputs and outputs are well defined. Artificial neural network can learn to recognize the problem analyzed giving an answer to changing input parameters. In the paper two methods of neural modeling of a chosen agricultural product distribution were presented.

The main objective of the essay is to present the problem of granting the status of a person who enjoys all human rights to artificial intelligence if it manages to develop artificial consciousness at the level allowing it for reflecting upon itself and recognizing the fact that it is an entity which has its own subjectivity and the right not to be exploited. Assuming the perspective of critical posthumanism, which here draws on research conducted by Stefan Sorgner, Francesca Ferrando, and Neil Badmington, the Author tries to give a concise presentation of the issue, which may still be perceived as part of speculative discourse stimulated by science-fiction, but which – as the Author proves – seems to be gradually becoming part of our everyday world that humanity will have to deal with on both ideological and legislative ground.

Biznes odgrywa dominującą rolę w rozwoju produktów i usług wykorzystujących sztuczną inteligencję.

The difficulty in dealing with this task stems from the facts that: a. the process of development is not transparent; b. companies do not always want to take part in discussionson the ethics of artificial intelligence and adhere to its results; c. the novelty of the issue causes that the results of these discussions do not arise quickly and are not practical. The aim of the article is to indicate the difficulty of conducting research on the ethics of AI developed by business. The article has been synthetically presented in what way business responds to ethical challenges brought about by the phenomenon of development of AI. The answer to these challenges was also given by the High-Level Working Group appointed by the European Commission to develop a code of artificial intelligence.

Due to the complex geology of vein deposits and their erratic grade distributions, there is the tendency of overestimating or underestimating the ore grade. These estimated grade results determine the profitability of mining the ore deposit or otherwise. In this study, five Extreme Learning Machine (ELM) variants based on hard limit, sigmoid, triangular basis, sine and radial basis activation functions were applied to predict ore grade. The motive is that the activation function has been identified to play a key role in achieving optimum ELM performance. Therefore, assessing the extent of influence the activation functions will have on the final outputs from the ELM has some scientific value worth investigating. This study therefore applied ELMas ore grade estimator which is yet to be explored in the literature. The obtained results from the five ELM variants were analysed and compared with the state-of-the-art benchmark methods of Backpropagation Neural Network (BPNN) and Ordinary Kriging (OK). The statistical test results revealed that the ELM with sigmoid activation function (ELM-Sigmoid) was the best among all the other investigated methods (ELM-Hard limit, ELM-Triangular basis, ELM-Sine, ELM-Radial Basis, BPNN and OK). This is because the ELM-sigmoid produced the lowest MAE (0.0175), MSE (0.0005) and RMSE (0.0229) with highest R2 (91.93%) and R (95.88%) respectively. It was concluded that ELM-Sigmoid can be used by field practitioners as a reliable alternative ore grade estimation technique.

Mitigation of man-made climate change, rapid depletion of readily available fossil fuel reserves and facing the growing energy demand that faces mankind in the near future drive the rapid development of economically viable, renewable energy production technologies. It is very likely that greenhouse gas emissions will lead to the significant climate change over the next fifty years. World energy consumption has doubled over the last twenty-five years, and is expected to double again in the next quarter of the 21st century. Our biosphere is at the verge of a severe energy crisis that can no longer be overlooked. Solar radiation represents the most abundant source of clean, renewable energy that is readily available for conversion to solar fuels. Developing clean technologies that utilize practically inexhaustible solar energy that reaches our planet and convert it into the high energy density solar fuels provides an attractive solution to resolving the global energy crisis that mankind faces in the not too distant future. Nature’s oxygenic photosynthesis is the most fundamental process that has sustained life on Earth for more than 3.5 billion years through conversion of solar energy into energy of chemical bonds captured in biomass, food and fossil fuels. It is this process that has led to evolution of various forms of life as we know them today. Recent advances in imitating the natural process of photosynthesis by developing biohybrid and synthetic “artificial leaves” capable of solar energy conversion into clean fuels and other high value products, as well as advances in the mechanistic and structural aspects of the natural solar energy converters, photosystem I and photosystem II, allow to address the main challenges: how to maximize solar-to-fuel conversion efficiency, and most importantly: how to store the energy efficiently and use it without significant losses. Last but not least, the question of how to make the process of solar energy conversion into fuel not only efficient but also cost effective, therefore attractive to the consumer, should be properly addressed.

The aim of the following study was to answer the question whether multimodal grammar learning would improve classification accuracy as compared with a unimodal learning. To test this hypothesis, an experimental procedure was constructed based on the research conducted by Conway and Christiansen [2006]. Their study regarded modality-specific Artificial Grammar Learning task (AGL). The grammatical sequence that was used in the study presented here was based on an algorithm with a finite number of results. Two additional sets of ungrammatical sequences were generated in a random manner. One of them was used in the learning phase in the control group while the second one, in the classification phase, in both, control and experimental groups. The obtained results showed that participants performed classification task above the chance level. These findings supported the hypothesis, which stated that grammar learning would occur [Conway and Christiansen 2006; Reber 1989]. We did not observe any effect regarding the hypothesized accuracy enhancement in a multimodal learning condition.

Opis:
The paper presents a method based on artificial neural network (ANN) technique applied for correction of dynamic error of gas concentration measuring transducer. Its response time is about 8 minutes. The results obtained in the research of this transducer were used for learning and testing ANN, which were implemented in the dynamic correction task. The described method allowed for significant reduction of the transducer’s response time – the output signal was practically fixed after a time equal to one sampling period of output signal provided that the stimulus is a step function. In addition, the use of ANN allows reducing the impact of the transducer dynamic non-linearity on the correction effectiveness.

A potential field method in the real-time approach toward avoidance of obstacles for a mobile robot has been developed. A collision-free path and goal-seeking behaviour are calculated using an artificial potential field method. The proposed reactive nevigation approach is based on the coordination of elementary responses. To avoid convex obstacles, the navigator generates a "reaching the middle of the collision-free space" and goal-seeking behaviours. A control strategy based on artificial potential fields that generates a trajectory to be followed by a mobile robot that represents a reference for the robot at the same time is proposed. The effectiveness of the proposed method is numerically verified by a series of experiments on the emulator of the wheeled mobile robot Pioneer-2DX.

Opis:
The paper presents an attempt to evaluate the wear of piston-cylinder assembly with the aid of vibration signal recorded on spark ignition (SI) engine body. The subject of the study was a four-cylinder combustion engine 1.2 dm3. Diagnosing combustion engines with vibration methods is specifically difficult due to the presence of multiple sources of vibration interfering with the symptoms of damages. Diagnosing engines with vibroacustic methods is difficult also due to the necessity to analyse non-stationary and transient signals [5]. Various methods for selection of usable signal are utilised in the diagnosing process. Changes of the engine technical condition resulting from early stages of wear are difficult to detect for the effect of mechanical defect masking by adaptive engine control systems [3]. According to the studies carried out, it is possible to utilise artificial neural networks for the evaluation of the clearance in piston-cylinder assembly. It was proven that it is possible to set up a properly operating neural classifier able to identify the degree of wear in the piston-cylinder assembly, based on the signal of vibration acceleration in the engine body. Faultless classification was successfully obtained with the use of probabilistic neural network with properly selected value of y coefficient. At the same time, based on the experiments carried out, the crucial role was confirmed for the selection of proper method for pre-treatment of data intended for neural network teaching.

Medical imaging is a technique that is mostly known as visual representations of the parts of body for clinical scans and analysis. In imaging process for medical purpose there take part radiologists, radiographers/radiology technicians, medical physicists, sonographers, nurses, and engineers. As an apart issue from the medical imaging devices, we can treat X-rays using devices such as radiography, computed tomography, fluoroscopy, dental cone-beam computed tomography, and mammography. All these devices are to perform X-ray using during medical imaging process. An X-ray beam is generated in a vacuum tube that is principally composed of an anode and a cathode material to produce X-ray beams, whose name is X-ray tube. The anode represents the component in which the X-ray beam produced that made from a piece of metal. For decades, tungsten (W) has been used as an anode material of various X-ray tubes. Tungsten has high atomic number and high melting point of 3370°C with low rate of volatilization. In this study, we performed Monte Carlo simulation for flux calculations of W target by using MCNP-X general purpose code and considered result as a data set for artificial neural network. It can be concluded that the results agreed well between Monte Carlo simulation and artificial neural network prediction.

It demands a very detailed knowledge of man ecology including upper and bottom limits of tolerance for stressful factors existing in space. These aims are very useful for flight simulators. Among others, there are very important so-called "ecological imitators" of human work and human existence on board spaceships. The detailed knowledge of all stress factors has systematic character, including objective and subjective interactions within the human-environment system.

Medical electronic devices and metallic implants are found in an increasing number of workers. Industrial applications requiring intense electromagnetic fields (EMF) are growing and the potential risk of injurious interactions arising from EMF affecting devices or implants needs to be managed. Potential interactions include electromagnetic interference, displacement, and electrostimulation or heating of adjacent tissue, depending on the device or implant and the frequency of the fields. A guidance note, which uses a risk management framework, has been developed to give generic advice in (a) risk identification—implementing procedures to identify workers with implants and to characterise EMF exposure within a workplace; (b) risk assessment—integrating the characteristics of devices, the anatomical localisation of implants, occupational hygiene data, and application of basic physics principles; and (c) risk control—advising the worker and employer regarding safety and any necessary changes to work practices, while observing privacy.

Opis:
The adaptive educational systems within e-learning platforms are built in response to the fact that the learning process is different for each and every learner. In order to provide adaptive e-learning services and study materials that are tailor-made for adaptive learning, this type of educational approach seeks to combine the ability to comprehend and detect a person’s specific needs in the context of learning with the expertise required to use appropriate learning pedagogy and enhance the learning process. Thus, it is critical to create accurate student profiles and models based upon analysis of their affective states, knowledge level, and their individual personality traits and skills. The acquired data can then be efficiently used and exploited to develop an adaptive learning environment. Once acquired, these learner models can be used in two ways. The first is to inform the pedagogy proposed by the experts and designers of the adaptive educational system. The second is to give the system dynamic self-learning capabilities from the behaviors exhibited by the teachers and students to create the appropriate pedagogy and automatically adjust the e-learning environments to suit the pedagogies. In this respect, artificial intelligence techniques may be useful for several reasons, including their ability to develop and imitate human reasoning and decision-making processes (learning-teaching model) and minimize the sources of uncertainty to achieve an effective learning-teaching context. These learning capabilities ensure both learner and system improvement over the lifelong learning mechanism. In this paper, we present a survey of raised and related topics to the field of artificial intelligence techniques employed for adaptive educational systems within e-learning, their advantages and disadvantages, and a discussion of the importance of using those techniques to achieve more intelligent and adaptive e-learning environments.

The main subject of this article is the condition of artificial languagesin contemporary social media. An analysis of the available statistics of YouTube, Wikipedia and Facebook shows the unwavering position of Esperanto as the most common artificial language. Other artificial languages, primarily auxiliary languages created in the 19th and 20th centuries, such as volapük, ido, novial, interlingua, interlingue, find their niches in social media, but their presence seems to be supported by very narrow groups of enthusiasts. Contemporary artificial language projects, such as lojban or toki pona are in a similar position. Although Internet is the natural environment for their development, they have not managed to gain wider popularity among users. Certainly, artistic languages embedded in well-known popular culture texts find a great resonance among the internauts, as shows the examples of Klingon and Sindarin languages mentioned in the article.

A new approach is presented to monitor the average cutting forces that are used for the calculation of the average cutting coefficients through neural networks using available controller signals. The cutting forces and the relevant controller signals are measured using a dynamometer and commercially available software supplied by the controller manufacturer in the calibration stage. Then a neural network is trained, which treats these controller signals as inputs and the cutting forces as the outputs. Finally, the average cutting forces for a new milling operation are predicted using the trained neural network without using a dynamometer. The proposed approach is validated using an experimental study, where a good match between predictions and measured forces is achieved. It is also shown that cutting coefficients can be calibrated and stability lobe diagrams can be generated using this method.

The paper focuses on the question whether the institution of collective work could be used as an inspiration in order to regulate the legal situation of computer-generated works. Technological progress makes the creation of art by artificial intelligence with only minimal human participation an increasingly popular phenomenon. For this reason, world literature more and more often discusses how to legally qualify algorithmic creativity. An interesting idea, proposed in January 2020 by French Superior Council of Literary and Artistic Property is to regulate the issue alike the institution of a collective work. The study of the nature of computer-generated creativity on the example of the Endel musical start-up conducted in this paper will help to understand the complexity of the problem of algorithmic creativity. It will be also a valuable introduction to the analysis of the institution of collective work in Polish and French law. This comparative study will be important in the context of assessing the French proposals for the legal qualification of algorithmic creativity and examining to what extent the model of the collective work can be applied to computer-generated works in Polish copyright law.

Opis:
This work is devoted to an evaluation of the capabilities of artificial neural networks (ANN) in terms of developing a flow stress model for magnesium ZE20. The learning procedure is based on experimental flow-stress data following inverse analysis. Two types of artificial neural networks are investigated: a simple feedforward version and a recursive one. Issues related to the quality of input data and the size of the training dataset are presented and discussed. The work confirms the general ability of feedforward neural networks in flow stress data predictions. It also highlights that slightly better quality predictions are obtained using recursive neural networks.

ChatGPT skłania do refleksji nad przyszłością procesu edukacji.
The rapid development of artificial intelligence and its integration into many services used daily by millions of people around the world has become a reality. The growing popularity of AIbased generators such as ChatGPT, for example, makes us reflect on the future of the education process. Banning their use is likely to be counterproductive. However, as Jordan Peterson's experiment shows, language generators are already so advanced that they can produce texts that are difficult to distinguish from those written by humans. Therefore, the use of these tools by students and teachers cannot be given free rein without first equipping them with appropriate skills such as critical thinking.

Opis:
Mamar is an artificial oasis that provides a base for natural resource conservation in West Timor. The uniqueness of Mamar is its application in arid natural environments through a sustainable local leadership system, and it has a positive impact ecologically, economically, and socially. However, the Mamar system needs to receive more attention from the government in conserving natural resources. Such studies like Mamar's have been conducted elsewhere in Indonesia under different names, but they were applied in areas with wet and relatively fertile climates. Also, research on Mamar has been carried out by several parties related to the function of Mamar economically and the condition and structure of Mamar physically and biologically. However, research on Mamar related to the Construction of Environmental Leadership with local community behavior in Mamar based natural resource conservation has never been done. This research aims to analyze the construction of environmental leadership in natural resource conservation practices based on the Mamar system. This research was conducted through qualitative methods and critical interpretive approaches, with data collection techniques in the form of observation and interviews. The results indicate that Mamar based natural resource conservation in West Timor has positively and significantly impacted social, economic, and ecological aspects and has lasted for hundreds of years since the 17th century. It is done through the mechanism of Environmental Leadership Control through a strong, effective, and sustainable Local Leadership Role in Amarasi West Timor, with Local Leaders called Atupas, Mataf, Tobe, and Temukung.

The main goal of the research carried out was developing the design methodology for the new high-speed steels with the required properties, including hardness and fracture toughness, as the main properties guaranteeing the high durability and quality of tools made from them. It was decided that hardness and fracture toughness KIc are the criteria used during the high-speed steels design. In case of hardness, the statistical and neural netw chemical composition and its heat treatment parameters, i.e., austenitizing- and tempering temperatures. In the second case - high-speed steels fracture toughness, the neural network model was developed, makin it possible to compute the KIc factor based on the steel chemical composition and its heat treatment parameters. The developed material models were used for designing the chemical compositions if the new high-speed steel, demonstrating the desired properties, i.e., hardness and fracture toughness. Methodology was developed to this end, employing the evolutionary algorithms, multicriteria optimisation of the high-speed steels chemical composition.

Opis:
In the recent years, intelligent methods as artificial neural networks are successfully applied for data analysis from different fields of the geosciences. One of the encountered practical problems is the availability of gaps in the time series that prevent their comprehensive usage for the scientific and practical purposes. The article briefly describes two types of the artificial neural network (ANN) architectures ‐ Feed‐ Forward Backpropagation (FFBP) and recurrent Echo state network (ESN). In some cases, the ANN can be used as an alternative on the traditional methods, to fill in missing values in the time series. We have been conducted several experiments to fill the missing values of daily sea levels spanning a 5‐years period using both ANN architectures. A multiple linear regression for the same purpose has been also applied. The sea level data are derived from the records of the tide gauge Burgas, which is located on the western Black Sea coast. The achieved results have shown that the performance of ANN models is better than that of the classical one and they are very promising for the real‐time interpolation of missing data in the time series.

Opis:
Due to the rising demand for individualized product specifications and short product innovation cycles, industrial robots gain increasing attention for machining operations as milling and forming. Limitations in their absolute positional accuracy are addressed by enhanced modelling and calibration techniques. However, the resulting absolute positional accuracy stays in a range still not feasible for general purpose milling and forming tolerances. Improvements of the model accuracy demand complex, often not accessible system knowledge on the expense of realtime capability. This article presents a new approach using artificial neural networks to enhance positional accuracy of industrial robots. A hyperparameter optimization is applied, to overcome the downside of choosing an appropriate artificial neural network structure and training strategy in a trial and error procedure. The effectiveness of the method is validated with a heavy-duty industrial robot. It is demonstrated that artificial neural networks with suitable hyperparameters outperform a kinematic model with calibrated geometric parameters.

Opis:
The use of Big Data (BD) in medicine is fundamental for the development of digital healthcare, including the implementation of smart medicine and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. Proper organization of BD is necessary for the creation and training of AI algorithms, and for AI to work with great efficiency and accuracy. In this review, the existing models for creating and storing BD sets are described, and the numerous opportunities provided to the healthcare system by the effective use of these tools are outlined. The BD phenomenon is especially important for the developing countries, which can use the example of already completed projects and achievements in the field of BD to more effectively implement such technologies in their own countries. However, there are still some problems with the implementation of BD technologies in practical healthcare of the developing countries. One of the fundamental issues is the financial cost of developing, implementing and maintaining a system for collecting, storing and using BD, including the cost of highly qualified personnel, and expensive equipment and network infrastructure that needs to be regularly updated. Another problem is the confidentiality and security of data in healthcare.
Kolejny problem stanowi natomiast kwestia poufności i ochrony danych w służbie zdrowia.
