Opis:
A new concept of job satisfaction demands an independent measure of two components of job satisfaction (its emotional and cognitive aspects). A classification of techniques for assessing the cognitive aspect of job satisfaction is made and their usefulness for study of different topics is presented. The Satisfaction With Job Scale allows to measure the cognitive aspect of overall job satisfaction. The paper indicates the sources of construction of The Satisfaction With Job Scale. It comprises the technique description, its psychometric properties and validity scores in a heterogeneous group, as well as in four categories of job. The internal reliability of the scale is high – in the heterogeneous group Cronbach’s Alpha is 0,864 (in four groups: 0,814–0,888). The scale has a one-dimensional structure: Factor analysis (principal components) yields one component with eigenvalue exceeding unity which accounted 65,5% of the total variance in the whole group (in four groups: 58,5%–69,8%). The scale shows high convergent validity with other measure of cognitive aspect of job satisfaction and discriminant validity in relation to measures of emotional aspects of job satisfaction and to cognitive aspect of overall life satisfaction. The data show that The Satisfaction with Job Scale is a valuable instrument for measure of overall job satisfaction.

128 workers, aged 18–57, were investigated with Job Affect Scale (affective job satisfaction), Job Satisfaction Scale (cognitive job satisfaction) and Reactivity Questionnaire to measure general reactivity. Reactivity is not related to cognitive job satisfaction, but it shows positive correlations with intensity of negative affect and negative correlations with intensity of positive affect at work. We can observe connections between the three investigated aspects of job satisfaction only among low reactive workers.

A characterization of companies of the SME sector in Poland demonstrates the importance of improving the process of human capital management. Analysis of the specific attributes of the companies in this sector and an evaluation of the human capital management system proves the advisability of improving the quality of incentive systems. Another argument is the level of job satisfaction and employee satisfaction. These findings are derived from research carried out on a representative, nationwide sample. It is for this reason that a rational direction for improving the incentive systems is the application of solutions based on a new paradigm that is concerned with the level of employee satisfaction. Such a paradigm becomes not only a substantive, but also an objective necessity under difficult management conditions.

Today, the more trainers are satisfied with their work, the more they are encouraged to work harder and also the more the efficiency of schools rises. On the other hand, dissatisfaction and low levels of the performances of teachers derive in turn from their lack of satisfaction. As previous researches show, dissatisfied employees give up their jobs and leave the organization. And satisfied employees enjoy mental health and live longer, and being satisfied and happy can affect the employees beyond their offices and have an effect on their personal lives. On that account, this research aims to examine the impact that job satisfaction has on the mental health of teachers. The method used in this study was a descriptive-explanatory one. The research sample consists of 332 teachers in the province of Mazandaran, Iran. The dare were collected using questionnaires and the results showed that there is a meaningful relationship between job satisfaction and mental health of the studied teachers.

Job satisfaction is on the top of the important targets for an establishment which is in the process of total quality. Because, the provision of total quality, first of all, is based on the sincere commitment to work of the corporate employees/managers and being satisfied with their jobs; namely, doing their jobs fondly. The role of motivation about the productivity and the efficiency is a topic which has been studied and debated for years. Because, the company's success depends on employees' skills and willingness. With zero-error production of services, ensuring full customer satisfaction and employee in a harmonious relationship with their colleagues and work is the primary target of "job satisfaction". Composing customer contentment and loyalty, however, depends on making the firm's employees satisfied and the degree of saturation for their job. In this study, by the theoretical approach to job satisfaction it was attempted to emphasize the theories explaining job satisfaction and the importance of the job satisfaction works and also what the job satisfaction and the relationship between employee attitudes are.

There was a statistically significant influence of all aspects of authentic leadership (relational transparency, fair conduct, self-awareness, internalised moral perspective) on the employee’s satisfaction with their remuneration. It turned out that not only job satisfaction, but also satisfaction with remuneration including recognising remuneration as decent and comparable to similar work in a similar position in other workplaces, depends on the perceived leadership of direct supervisors.

Opis:
The issues broached by the article concern the interdependence of social roles assumed by adults. From the point of view of optimal conditions for offspring development, the level of adults’ involvement in parenting tasks and the degree to which the involvement depends on their professional and marital satisfaction is signifi cant. It is assumed, that involvement in the role of a mother or father has an effect on the functioning of both adults and their children, nalogous to professional involvement, which yields individual (shaping abilities and self esteem) and supra- individual (affecting an organisation’s efficiency) consequences. The article presents an attempt at an operationalization of involvement in parenting and the results of the relationships of the aforementioned adult activity areas. The research indicates that the exposed dependency is based on a correlation between both the overall marital satisfaction as well as its individual aspects. Whereas linear regression analysis indicates that the relationship between self-fulfi lment in a marriage, spouse intimacy and involvement in parenting is not statistically signifi cant. Also the level of marital disillusionment does not allow us to forecast adult involvement in parental tasks. The variable pertaining to marital satisfaction signifi cant for parental involvement is spousal similarity. Individuals who see similarities between themselves and their spouse exhibit higher levels of involvement. On the other hand, generalised professional satisfaction is not signifi cant when it comes to parental involvement. Only colleague satisfaction constitutes a significant, albeit weak predictor for parental involvement.

Introduction and aim. Pediatric nurses play an important role in ensuring quality healthcare through job satisfaction and professional behaviors. This study aims to examine the relationship between job satisfaction and professional behaviors in pediatric nurses. Material and methods. This was a descriptive and cross-sectional study. The sample of the study consisted of 244 pediatric nurses who worked in tertiary university hospitals in Turkey and agreed to participate in the study. Data were obtained through face-to-face interviews using a personal information form, the job satisfaction scale for nurses (JSSN), and the behavioral inventory form for professionalism in nursing (BIPN). Data were analyzed using the SPSS 22.0 software and evaluated using descriptive statistics, independent t-tests, one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation, and simple linear regression analysis. Results. The nurses’ JSSN and BIPN means scores were 3.42±0.59 and 5.69±4.05, respectively. A statistically significant moderate positive relationship was found between the pediatric nurses’ professional behaviors and job satisfaction (R=0.342; p<0.001). The regression analysis revealed that professional behaviors significantly and positively influenced job satisfaction in pediatric nurses (β=0.050; p<0.001). Conclusion. This study found that pediatric nurses had a moderate level of job satisfaction and a low level of professional behaviors, and as their professional behavior increased, their job satisfaction also increased.

Purpose: The purpose of this article is to determine the effects of emotional intelligence (EI) on job satisfaction and to examine whether ethical climate has a mediating role in this effect. Methodology: The study was conducted among employees of sales organizations in the automotive industry. Relationships between variables were determined by correlation and bootstrap regression analysis with data from 127 participants. Findings: The results revealed that emotional intelligence shows statistically positive and significant relationships with job satisfaction and ethical climate. Moreover, positive correlation was determined between ethical climate and job satisfaction. The most important result is the decrease of the effect of emotional intelligence on job satisfaction in the triple relationship that includes ethical climate. The findings indicated that the relationship between emotional intelligence levels and employees’ perception of organizational ethical climate weakened their impact on job satisfaction. Implication: Ethical climate has a mediating effect on the relationship between emotional intelligence and job satisfaction. The relationship between emotional intelligence levels and job satisfaction is indirectly strengthened by ethical climate. However, the triple relationship of variables weakens the effect of emotional intelligence on job satisfaction.

DOI: 10.14746/se.2020.56.7 The article contains a presentation of the results of empirical research, which purpose was to diagnose the general level of teachers’ job satisfaction and its disaggregation depending on gender, age and seniority, and to diagnose styles of humor presented by teachers, as well as to determine the relationship between these variables. The research sample was a group of 113 teachers from 11 randomly selected middle schools from Western Poland. A survey revealed no differentiation of professional satisfaction on the part of the teachers surveyed in terms of sex, age and length of employment. However, it was revealed that self-enhancing humor, relatively weak, but statistically significant (r = 0.289), correlates positively with the level of teachers’ professional satisfaction. The results confirm the assumption that this kind of adaptive humor is an individual factor that holds an important role in increasing a sense of satisfaction and well-being of individuals.

Employee misconduct is prevalent in organizations and may be counterproductive in social and material terms. It is thus important to better understand how misconduct is construed by employees and the factors that determine its ethical acceptability in specific cases. This study explores attitudes towards unethical and minor deviant behaviours by examining the degree of acquiescence towards them in a sample of employees. Based on previous studies it was hypothesized that both organizational commitment and job satisfaction would be negatively related to the acceptance of such behaviours in organizational settings. Results show that there is a relationship between the degree of acquiescence and organizational commitment and a more modest relationship with job satisfaction. They further indicate that organizational tenure impacts very significantly on the degree of acceptance. Although differences were found for age, neither gender nor organizational variables were found to be significant.

The aim of the article is to present a new Polish tool for measuring the flow experience in professional tasks – a FLOW-W Questionnaire. The questionnaire was inspired by Csikszentmihalyi’s (1990) flow theory and flow in Bakker’s work (2008). On its basis a set of positions was established, on which subsequently an exploratory (study 1, N = 101) and confirmatory (study 2, N = 275) factor analysis was conducted. The analysis showed the possibility of a uni- or bifactorial solution. After checking the theoretical and empirical validity of both solutions, the unifactorial solution was adopted. The validity of the questionnaire was examined, i.a. by correlations with theoretically related variables: work engagement with the UWES questionnaire (Szabowska-Walaszczyk, Zawadzka, Wojtaś, 2011) and affect at work (Zalewska, 2002). The studies showed a significant positive correlation between flow at work and work engagement (0.84) and between flow and positive affect (0.74). The reliability of the questionnaire is very high; α = 0.96. The tool has very good psychometric properties.

Opis:
The current study investigates the role of job satisfaction in the light of population ageing in European countries. By increasing employees’ job satisfaction it is possible to counteract the consequences of labor force ageing and shrinking. In this context, this study aims to indicate factors that differentiate the level of job satisfaction of older workers in Poland. It also seeks to identify determinants of the greatest job satisfaction or lack of thereof. The analyzed factors include job characteristics and individual characteristics of employees. The study is based on data for Poland from the SHARE project. The analysis employs probit and logit models. Job characteristics that were found to determine job satisfaction, include support, recognition, salary, and opportunity to develop new skills. The most important individual determinants comprise physical health and living arrangement. The determinants of the greatest job satisfaction, among job characteristics, include first and foremost support and opportunity to develop new skills. With respect to individual characteristics, the most important determinants involve living arrangement, sex, and physical health. Lack of job satisfaction is determined first and foremost by salary, and next by recognition, opportunity to develop new skills, and physical and mental health.

Functioning of man in working conditions in a cognitive perspective is making decisions, doing a specific job and getting results. All of these three components are present in each work, but work in conditions of alternative employment sets different requirements to an individual with respect to the above-mentioned three components of work. In this article attention will be paid in particular to the third of these three components - the results of the work. These are the results that are critical for job satisfaction and its individual components. These three elements of human activity employed both on a permanent and temporary basis are present in nearly every motivation model (cf. Porter, Lawler 1967 and others). At the same time new categories of description and explanation of human behaviour spring up, since employment conditions are changing. Flexible employment is one of the most characteristic changes in the present times with regard to the relationship between an employee and an employer. The article presents the results of the author’s research on the sample of flexible employees.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to measure the level of job satisfaction and the work factors associated with it among practicing dentists in Suez Canal governorates hospitals. Materials and Methods: Four hundred forty nine dentists were contacted, and 277 agreed to participate (response rate 61.7%). They were surveyed through a self-administered questionnaire based on items from the Dentist Satisfaction Survey (DSS) questionnaire, which included 29 questions covering items related to the overall satisfaction level and work environment factors; answers were reported on 5 point Likert scale. Results: The mean score of overall job satisfaction among studied dentists was 3.24 out of 5. As regards work environment factors, the most satisfying aspect was patient relations (3.71) and the least was personal time (2.71). Multiple regression analysis model verifi ed that patient relations, value of income, personal time, staff, and training opportunities accounted for 36% of variation in overall job satisfaction score. The majority of the variance was explained by patient relations. Conclusions: This study suggests that patient relations, perception of income, personal time, staff, and specialty training are important work environment factors for job satisfaction among the dentists. These fi ndings might help policy makers to design plans to increase the level of job satisfaction among dentists at their workplaces.

The present study focuses the Fried et al. (2007) conceptual framework which examines the impact of job characteristics on employees’ satisfaction and how career stage and career advancement moderates these effects. The sample for the study consists of 250 faculty members teaching in different universities in China. Results revealed that current career stage does not act as a moderator between job characteristics and job satisfaction, but career advancement acts as a moderator between job characteristics and job satisfaction which somewhat contradicts the findings of the original model of Fried et al. (2007).

Opis:
The aim of this research project was to evaluate the impact of the temperamental traits and structure (as defined by Strelau’s Regulative Theory of Temperament) on the level of life satisfaction and job satisfaction (interpreted according to Zalewska’s Transactional Model of Quality of Life). The participants of the study were employees (N=199) having different jobs and from different workplaces. The results indicate that there exists a positive relationship between both types of satisfaction and activity and endurance as well as a negative relationship between the measures of satisfaction and emotional reactivity. Multiple linear regression analysis revealed that activity and emotional reactivity are temperamental predictors of life satisfaction. The temperamental predictor of job satisfaction in the cognitive aspect is only activity, whereas in the case of job satisfaction in the emotional aspect - activity and endurance. The statistical analysis revealed that the temperament structure harmonising in the dimension of under-stimulation – over-stimulation has no correlation with any types of satisfaction.

The aim of the present study was to specify the nature of the relationships between work and marital satisfaction in the women. In addition it aimed at revealing as to whether demographic variables, such as age, position, length of service, marriage duration, and the number of children have an impact upon the work and marital satisfaction in working women. The present study included 120 married, working women, and analyses the relationship between job satisfaction and marital satisfaction, taking into consideration emotional and cognitive factors. The participants were mostly office workers, of whom 20 (8%) occupied management positions. The Descriptions Inventory, Job Affect Scale, Questionnaire of Well-matched Marriage, and a scale of work-job interactions were administered. Significant positive correlations across almost all variables of job and marital satisfaction were observed. This means that the increase of marital satisfaction corresponds with the increase in job satisfaction, although the work/family conflict resulted in experiencing negative emotions at work. Moreover, the level of job satisfaction was higher than the level of family satisfaction. It was also found that the age and time spent at work proved to have a negative impact upon job satisfaction. Work-family facilitation proved to be crucial since its exclusion made the interface between all factors of family satisfaction and work insignificant. At the same time, the managerial women suffered from work/family conflict to a greater degree than did office workers. The study revealed also that the needs of older workers should be taken into account to maintain their work/life balance.

Introduction. In the opinion of many researchers, nursing staff are exposed to an exceptionally high level of occupational stress. The problem of stress in the working environment of the nursing staff becomes more and more important in the context of increasing staff shortages and insufficient support from colleagues and employers. The aim of this study was to analyse stress factors indicated by the nursing staff in Poland and Lithuania, and to assess their job satisfaction. Materials and method. Two standard research tools were used in the study: the Nursing Stress Scale and the Job Satisfaction Survey. The study involved 230 respondents from Poland and Lithuania. The sample was chosen randomly and incidentally. Results. Based on the analysis of collected materials, the greatest stress factors in the work of the nursing staff were identified, which included interpersonal conflicts between nurses and doctors and between nurses, and death and dying. The study indicated that there is a relationship between stress and job satisfaction among Polish nurses (r=-0.33;p=0.001) and Lithuanian nurses (r=0.34; p=0.001). The greater the stress, the lower the job satisfaction. Low job satisfaction was connected with low remuneration, which is still inadequate to professional duties, and the lack of promotion opportunities. The study confirmed that there were significant differences in job satisfaction among Polish and Lithuanian nurses (Z= –6.27; p<0.001). Conclusions. The study confirmed a high level of stress and dissatisfaction among nursing staff in Poland and Lithuania.

Rural area represents the population with a high work capacity, but with less employment opportunities than in urban areas, so in order to have a decent job 5 (five) needs are referred to: working conditions should be safe, both physically and mentally, people should have access to medical facilities, health, working hours should be ones in which you can rest and have time for family and compensation should be acceptable for the work done. The employment opportunities that people have differ depending on the environment they come from, so in rural areas the job opportunities are discrete, as it is the quality in work, both of them depending strongly on the area characteristics - whether it is developed or underdeveloped- and by its infrastructure, always considering that agriculture is most increased activity in these areas. The study aims to map and depict the occupational situation of people living in Romanian rural areas, coping with limited job opportunities, compared to those living in towns and cities, as well as how people in rural areas choose their jobs, how the labour market has influenced them to find a suitable job and where they can get or acquire the skills they need. As people in rural areas choose to migrate, the population is an ageing one and over time, villages will depopulate and the labour force and human resources will shrink.

Objectives: The study aimed at assessment of the Polish occupational medicine service system after over ten years of functioning in the current shape, made by occupational nurses. The article focuses on the job satisfaction level among Polish occupational medicine nurses. Materials and Methods: The survey was performed among 600 randomly selected occupational medicine nurses, registered in the regional occupational medicine centers. A questionnaire, designed by the research team, containing several questions concerning different aspects of OMS system assessment, including a part dedicated to job satisfaction assessment, was sent to the selected occupational nurses. The response rate was 33.3% (200 questionnaires). Results: The survey shows a relatively high satisfaction level in case of five out of eleven investigated job aspects, and a very low satisfaction level in case of two of them (“Possibility of professional promotion”, “Salary”). 26% of the OMS nurses had considered going abroad to work as a nurse in the general health care system, and 17% in the OHS system. Almost 25% of them would not choose a profession of an occupational nurse once again, including 10% who would not choose a nurse job at all. There is a statistically significant correlation between the general job satisfaction and satisfaction with other aspects of nursing work. A strong correlation was observed in case of “Scope of performed tasks” and “Cooperation with employers (clients of the occupational medicine service units)”. There is a statistically significant correlation of average strength between the decision concerning choosing an occupational nurse job in case of taking a decision on professional carrier once again and “General job satisfaction”. Conclusion: Polish occupational nurses are satisfied with their job, however only 26% are fully satisfied. In their work there is place for improvement. The areas which definitely need attention and improvement are “Possibility of professional promotion” and “Salary”. Improvements in cooperation between occupational nurses and physicians can make it close to the best practice.

Purpose – The article aims to attempt to define the work and organization engagement of the employees of one of the exclusive hotel spa in Poland. The present paper proposes that organizational roles taken by employees differentiate symptoms of their engagement. The research aims to test the hypothesis and to show the differences at the level of concepts and behaviors. Design/methodology/approach – The following study is an attempt to define the work and organizational engagement of employees of one of the exclusive SPA (sanus per aquam) hotels in Poland. The study was conducted using qualitative methods in the form of individual interviews and a group interview. The study described is part of a bigger project implemented in a Hotel. One department within the hotel, the kitchen of the main restaurant, was chosen for analysis. As such, opinions of two managers of various ranks (the Chef and the Deputy Manager of the Hotel) and seven persons from the aforementioned department are presented in this paper. Findings – Data analysis allowed us to conclude that organizational roles performed by employees may, in an influential way, shape the level and mental representation of the work and organizational engagement. Our results show that the higher position an employee has in the organizational hierarchy, the better is his/her understanding and the bigger is level of engagement both in work and in the organisation. What’s more, higher organizational role is conducive to mixing these two perspectives, and the lower role makes them clearly separated.

Introduction and objective. The aim of this study is to assess the interpersonal relations of employees of State Forests in Poland, as well as to indicate the factors related to the level of satisfaction with the relations among people employed in similar positions, and relations with superiors. Materials and method. The issues investigated were developed based on research conducted between 2014–2015 among employees of State Forests in Poland. In each of the 9 forest districts selected, 25 people were selected for testing from 3 groups of employees: foresters, deputy foresters and supervisors, together with administrative staff. Altogether, 399 people took part in the study conducted by means of a questionnaire. Results. The study showed that the overall level of satisfaction with interpersonal relations among employees of State Forests in Poland is high. Analysis indicated that the demographic characteristics of respondents, such as age, gender or place of residence, had no significant influence on satisfaction with interpersonal relations in the workplace. However, the level of satisfaction with interpersonal relations was positively affected by a high level of overall job satisfaction and satisfaction with remuneration. Decrease in the level of satisfaction was influenced by the accumulation of stressful life events and employment in administration. Conclusions. Satisfaction with interpersonal relationships in the workplace is an important indicator of employee mental health. Studies have shown the need to broaden the scope of research into the variables that determine the character and personality of an employee.

satisfaction level
Opis:
Background Job satisfaction is one of the key factors related to the work efficiency of nursing staff. Its level may affect the degree of the professional’s commitment to work and effectiveness in performing their professional tasks. For a modern organisation, job satisfaction is associated with a number of benefits for both the employee and the employer. Job satisfaction of nurses is extremely important due to their professional tasks being related to the care of patients. Nurses with low levels of job satisfaction may have less capabilities to provide high quality care and thus maintain a high level of patient satisfaction. Material and Methods This was a cross-sectional observational study which included 302 people practising the profession of a nurse and employed in a hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic. The level of job satisfaction was assessed using the Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire (MSQ), which was preceded by questions characterising the research group. The questionnaire was delivered to the respondents in electronic form. Results The respondents obtained an average result in terms of the level of job satisfaction (M±SD 58.53±11.42). The highest rated area was the chance to do something good for other people (M±SD 3.85±0.87), and the lowest rated areas included: the method of work evaluation and the remuneration system (M±SD 2.24±0.74), the chances for advancement (M±SD 2.38±0.94) and the chance to take up senior positions (M±SD 2.39±0.88) as well as the number of tasks to be performed during the working day (M±SD 2.40±0.86). Conclusions In this study, average values of the level of job satisfaction were obtained. A higher level of job satisfaction was shown by those employed in a non-infectious hospital and those with higher monthly earnings. Employers’ policy should focus on improving working conditions, the remuneration system and promotion opportunities.

The presented study employed an emotional intelligence framework as a means of explicitly examining the emotional competences and experiencing job satisfaction or burnout. Emotional intelligence is hypothesized to have a positive relationship with higher job satisfaction and negative with burnout. Firstly, the variables are discussed on the basis of existing concepts and research. The second part presents my own research: methodology outline, main data and discussion. Results showed that emotional intelligence was a negative significant predictor (r=0.54, p<0.05) of burnout symptoms, and a positive significant predictor of job satisfaction (r=0.37, p<0.05). The paper concludes with a discussion of the pedagogical implications, teaching professionalization and recommendations for future research.

Job satisfaction is one of the most researched topics in management literature taking into consideration the fact that it has been found out that this concept has many practical implications in the workplace. Job satisfaction is very complex phenomenon which is influenced by numerous factors. Previous studies provide a partial view of job satisfaction, because they are usually focused on the relationship between a single factor and job satisfaction, without taking a global view to indicate how different factors simultaneously affect job satisfaction. The purpose of this paper is to investigate how different factors such as: work family balance, teamwork, personal environment fit, job security and supervisor support simultaneously influence job satisfactions. The sample of the study includes employees of Polish small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis is used to analyze data collected in surveys from 274 employees. The results contribute to research on job satisfaction by outlining several combinations of factors which create a paths to explain employee job satisfaction: (1) teamwork and supervisor support, (2) personal environment fit, job security and supervisor support with absence of work family balance, (3) work family balance, job security and supervisor support.

This article addresses the issue of employees’ job satisfaction in terms of the intangible assets of an organisation and simultaneously indicates the role which both of those aspects play in implementing the production preparation process. Through the use of a systematic literature review method, it was possible to identify research studies devoted to the position of satisfaction in the concepts of intangible assets and intellectual capital, and the study results in terms of relations between various intangible assets, such as the company’s reputation or structural capital, and job satisfaction. The conclusions of this study are particularly important for production preparation. They indicate how important the reputation of the company and other intangible assets are for employees’ satisfaction and for retaining them in the company, which is crucial for the implementation of technologically advanced research and development.

Organizational justice is a crucial aspect of good management. It has been shown numerous times that an unjust work environment has an adverse impact on employees in terms of job satisfaction. Yet is this effect homogeneous in all groups of workers? In this paper we strive to provide an explanation for this question, presenting a study concerning the impact of one of the dimensions of organizational injustice-interpersonal injustice, on the job satisfaction of knowledge workers in Poland. In particular, we demonstrate how perceived injustice at work influences their job satisfaction compared with other workers. We also analyse whether flexible employment has a mitigating effect on this relationship. Logistic regressions estimated using sample of 23,942 workers surveyed between 2009 and 2013 showed that in both groups interpersonal injustice significantly diminishes job satisfaction. However, in the case of knowledge workers, this effect is significantly smaller among employees with temporary contracts. The mitigating effect of temporary employment is not present among other workers. The results suggest that permanent knowledge workers, are more vulnerable to interpersonal injustice.

Opis:
Objectives The aim of this study has been to examine the degree to which it is possible to predict job satisfaction in hospital nurses based on core self-evaluation and the nurses’ professional commitment. Psychological constructs of nurses’ professional commitment could predict a level of job satisfaction. Material and Methods A cross-sectional design was applied. Data was collected from 584 nurses of the University Hospital Osijek between April and November 2016. Core Self-Evaluation Scale (CSES), Job Satisfaction Survey (JSS) and Nurses‘ Professional Commitment Scale (NPCS) were administrated to the study participants. Confirmatory factor analyses were conducted to test the validity of each questionnaire. Structural equation modeling was used for testing the prediction of nurses’ professional commitment and core self-evaluation of job satisfaction. Nurses’ professional commitment is variable, which functions as a mediator between predictor (core selfevaluation – CSE) and criterion variable (job satisfaction – JS). As a mediator, it explains what the effect is, provided that correlations among all variables are significant. Results The correlation analyses reveal significant positive correlations between job satisfaction and core self-evaluation (r = 0.441, p > 0.001) as well as between job satisfaction and nurses’ professional commitment (r = 0.464, p > 0.001). Furthermore, core self-evaluation significantly and positively correlates with nurses’ professional commitment (r = 0.402, p > 0.001). The results have shown that nurses’ professional commitment mediates the relationship between core self-evaluation and job satisfaction. The bootstrap analysis showed that core self-evaluation partially mediated the relationship between nurses’ professional commitment and job satisfaction (β = 0.78, p < 0.001**). The indirect effects of core self-evaluation on job satisfaction through nurses’ professional commitment was also significant (β = 0.17, p < 0.001**). Conclusions Nurses who are more committed to their work, regardless of the structure of personality, have greater satisfaction in their work. Int J Occup Med Environ Health 2018;31(5):649–658

Objectives: Days off, on call, night duty, working hours and job stress can affect physicians’ mental health, and support from supervisors and co-workers may have a buffering effect. This study elucidates whether job strain and job factors affect physicians’ mental health, and whether support from supervisors and co-workers has a protective effect on their mental health. Material and Methods: The subjects included 494 physicians. The Brief Job Stress Questionnaire (BJSQ) was used to evaluate job demand, job control and support. High job strain was defined as a combination of high job demand and low job control. Depressive symptoms were assessed using the Patient Health Questionnaire-9. The Maslach Burnout Inventory- General Survey was used to evaluate burnout. Possible confounder adjusted logistic regression analyses were performed to obtain odds ratios for depressive symptoms and burnout. Results: As per the analysis, high job strain had significantly higher odds ratios, and support from co-workers had significant protective odds ratios for depressive symptoms. High job strain and having only 2–4 days off per month (compared to > 8 days off per month) had significantly higher odds ratios, and support from co-workers had significant protective odds ratios for burnout. Conclusions: High job strain was related to depressive symptoms and burnout, and support from co-workers had a buffering effect on depressive symptoms and burnout. An inadequate number of days off was related to burnout. Assessment of job strain may be a good tool to measure physicians’ mental health, and a sufficient number of days off may be needed to prevent burnout.

The study aimed to investigate the relationships between intra-organizational knowledge sharing and the absorptive capacity of a company - under conditions of two mediators: job satisfaction and organizational commitment. Identifying the relationships between these variables contributes to the development of the literature in the field of strategic management concerning the mechanisms creating the absorptive capacity of the company. Absorptive capacity is understood as the ability to acquire, assimilate, transform, and exploit useful external knowledge. The object of study was a company specializing in the production of high-quality insulating glass and special glass - one of the leading producers in this line of business in Poland. To test the hypotheses, the author performed the regression analysis, which revealed a direct relationship between the process of knowledge sharing and absorptive capacity. Above all, the results achieved show that intra-organizational knowledge absorption and transmission stimulates an increase in job satisfaction, which in turn leads to an increase in organizational commitment. Both changes result in a perceptible increase in the absorptive capacity of the examined company. The observed double-mediating effect constitutes the added value of the above investigations.

Purpose: The main objective of the research was to identify the structure and level of psychosocial risk experienced by transport workers and the relation between occupational stress and the decision to leave the job. Methodology: The research on psychosocial risks at work and their impact on job-related decisions was conducted with the Psychosocial Risk Scale (SRP), a scientifically verified diagnostic tool characterized by high reliability and accuracy of coefficients. The scale consists of four parts, A, B, C, and D. Part A concerns demographic data (such as age, gender, seniority, position, etc.). Part B contains questions related to health and professional functioning. Part C consists of 50 statements related to characteristics of work that pose potential psychosocial risks. Annex D-SRP for the transport sector contains 12 questions (α-Cronbach factor = 0.80). Psychometric properties of parts B and C of the Psychosocial Risk Scale were determined on the basis of the survey results. Results: The psychosocial risk categories considered were workload, job content, work schedule, control, environment and equipment, organizational culture and function, interpersonal relationships, career development, and work-life interface. The mediating effect of job satisfaction was also considered to provide a holistic perception of the analyzed problem. Job satisfaction was analyzed in job content, work conditions and organization, financial conditions, career development, and interpersonal relations with superiors and co-workers. Based on research results, authors identified and characterized the impact of psychosocial risk on transport workers' job-related decisions. Theoretical contribution: The research links social sciences, psychology, and management studies exploring the links between occupational stress and HR management implications, filling in a research gap between occupational stress and logistics management and creating new gaps and research questions as conclusions from research open following research fields and opportunities in the context of research on sustainable development of enterprises. It adds a new perspective to transport management, proving that risk resulting from job characteristics and organization can compromise the availability of workers and the quality of processes performed. Practical implications: The research results can be used by HR managers and workload planners to minimize the occupational stress experienced and improve the well-being and performance of transport workers.

Purpose – The aim of this chapter is to shed some light on the antecedents of organizational commitment, the mediating role of job engagement and job satisfaction as determinants of organizational commitment within the public sector environment, and the effects that national cultural values may have on these relationships. Approach – This paper presents a review of the works that, from both theoretical and empirical points of view, explore the affecting factors of public employees’ organizational commitment in an international setting. Findings – A comprehensive model has been developed, detailing the expectations on the influence that these factors might have on public employees’ level of commitment, either as mediators or moderators. Research limitations/implications – The main limitation is the paper’s theoretical nature; the subsequent implication is a future empirical research that may prove or disprove these theoretical findings. In addition, there are some other possible mediating factors and antecedents which may be of interest for future researchers. Originality/value – This comprehensive review of the extant literature may provide academics and public managers with a deeper comprehension of how organizational commitment might be achieved, and why some practices may or may not be transferrable from one country to another.Paper type – Literature review

Objectives: This study aims at exploring associations of general self-efficacy (GSE), workplace violence and doctors' work-related attitudes. Material and Methods: In this study a cross-sectional survey design was applied. Questionnaires were administrated to 758 doctors working in 9 hospitals of Zhengzhou, Henan province, China, between June and October 2010. General information on age, gender, and years of working was collected, and the doctors' experience and witnessing workplace violence, job satisfaction, job initiative, occupational stress as well as GSE were measured. General linear regression analysis was performed in association analyses. Results: Both experiencing and witnessing workplace violence were significantly positively correlated with the level of occupational stress but significantly negatively correlated with job satisfaction, job initiative, and GSE. General self-efficacy significantly modified relationships between both experiencing and witnessing workplace violence with occupational stress (β = 0.49 for experiencing violence; β = 0.43 for witnessing violence; p < 0.001) and with job satisfaction (β = -0.35 and -0.34, respectively; p < 0.05). However, it did not modify the relationships between both experiencing and witnessing workplace violence with job initiative (p > 0.05). The levels of occupational stress declined significantly with the increase of GSE, while job satisfaction increased significantly along with its increase. The effects of GSE on occupational stress and job satisfaction weakened as the frequency of violence increased. Conclusions: The findings suggest that GSE can modify effects of workplace violence on health care workers' stress and job satisfaction. Enhancing GSE in combination with stress reduction may lead to facilitating health care workers' recovery from workplace violence, and thereby improving their work-related attitudes.

This article is an attempt to determine the modern meaning of career success. The perception of career success has undergone changes in recent years, with subjective indicators such as job satisfaction and achievement of one's own professional goals growing in importance. The present article reviews the relevant literature and presents the results of the author's own study on the meaning of career success conducted among students of economics. The results indicate that career success is defined subjectively in the modern world, and is no longer confined to the objective indicators commonly applied in the literature. Thus organizations may find traditional incentive tools to be increasingly ineffective.

Job satisfaction, defined as an employee s attitude to work, is an issue that has been of interest to many researchers since the 1930s. The factors affecting job satisfaction are both subjective and situational. In addition to working conditions, economic and social aspects of work and the nature of performed tasks, situational factors also include determinants in the area of interpersonal relationships. According to the author of this article, interpersonal relationships are one of the key areas of job satisfaction. The quality of relationships with superiors, staff, students, superiors’ management style and feedback are all factors of great importance especially in the case of job satisfaction among academics. In order to determine which of these factors within the area of interpersonal relationships crucially determine the job satisfaction of the academics of the National Defence University (NDU), a study was conducted by the method of a diagnostic survey using a questionnaire technique. Based on the obtained results, the key factors that determine the job satisfaction of this group of employees were indicated, and the overall level of job satisfaction among the academics of the National Defence University was determined.

The study examined the relationships between work experience and (a) safety perceptions, (b) job satisfaction, (c) compliance with safety management policies and (d) accident frequency. Participants were Ghanaian industrial workers (N = 320). They were divided into 2 cohorts: experienced and inexperienced workers. Workplace safety perceptions were assessed with Hayes et al.’s 50-item work safety scale. MANOVA was used to test for differences of statistical significance. Posterior comparison with t test consistently revealed significant differences between experienced cohorts and their inexperienced counterparts. Experienced workers indicated the best perceptions on safety, expressed the highest level of job satisfaction, were the most compliant with safety procedures and recorded the lowest accident frequency. From a practical perspective, analysing differences in work experience in relation to safety perceptions could be useful for organizations as the workersʼ experience could indicate a need for special safety programmes for particular groups.

Aim/purpose – This study has three main aims; the first aim is determining doctors’ and nurses’ organizational commitment, vocational satisfaction and burnout levels; the second is analyzing the relations between organizational commitment, vocational satisfaction and burnout levels; and the third aim is analyzing doctors’ and nurses’ organizational commitment, vocational satisfaction and burnout levels according to their demographical characteristics. Design/methodology/approach – Data for the cross-sectional study was gathered from a university hospital in Turkey of 735 doctors and nurses. Data was gathered by a four part data gathering medium. The medium consists of a personal data form developed by the researchers, Allen – Meyer organizational commitment scale, Minnesota satisfaction scale and Maslach burnout scale. The gathered data was evaluated with correlation analysis, variance analysis, definitive statistics, meaningfulness test of variance between two averages and averaging methods. Findings – The evaluated data showed that participants’ emotional and normative commitment levels are over average and continuation commitment level is high; their burnout level is high, desensitization level is at average, intrinsic satisfaction level is high because of their personal success; and extrinsic satisfaction level is low and general vocational satisfaction level is close to neutral. Academician doctors’ emotional and normative commitment levels; intrinsic and extrinsic vocational satisfaction levels; desensitization and personal success levels are higher than assistants’ and nurses’. In our study, it is found out that as emotional and normative commitment levels increase, so does the vocational satisfaction; while the continuation commitment level increases, vocational satisfaction level decreases; and meaningful statistical relation was determined between vocational satisfaction and burnout levels. Research implications – The limitation of the present study is that it was conducted in one hospital in the province of Sivas, Turkey. Originality/value/contribution − The originality of this work is to examine job satisfaction, burnout and organizational commitment in health worker.

Teachers who experience high wellbeing in their workplace teach more effectively, have better relationships with learners, and high attainment among their learners (Mason, 2017). To understand what contributes to language teacher wellbeing, we examined the three pillars of positive psychology (Seligman, 2011) and drew in particular on work in Positive Organizational Scholarship (Cameron & Spreitzer, 2012) to explore institutional and personal factors which teachers perceived as influential for their wellbeing. The paper reports on insights from 15 language teachers in 13 different countries. This sampling technique ensured a diverse set of perspectives on this topic. Data were gathered through in-depth, semi-structured interviews which were analyzed using Thematic Analysis (Braun & Clarke, 2006). The analysis revealed five main themes the teachers perceived as relevant for their wellbeing including workplace culture, social relationships, sense of meaning and purpose, language teacher status, and physical wellbeing. The findings highlight that wellbeing is not just a personal and subjective phenomenon, but it is also collectively and socially determined. The study concludes with a reflection on implications for practice, policy makers, and school leaders as well as a consideration of issues of individuality to address in future research.

Purpose: The main objective of our study is to determine the levels of pressure to breach accounting ethics principles that professional accountants in business are exposed to. This research aims to explore accountants' intention to quit the profession due to ethics-related pressures. In addition, we analysed the effect of pressure due to conflicts of interest on job satisfaction. Methodology/approach: This study is based on a survey. The research instrument was an online questionnaire addressed to professional accountants in business. The collected primary data was statistically analysed. We performed the Jonckheere-Terpstra test to verify the hypotheses. Findings: Our evidence suggests that accountants in Croatia most frequently face the pressure to perform without expertise or due care. The intention to quit the accounting profession is related to the frequency of exposure to pressures regarding the preparation and presentation of accounting information, inducements, and non-compliance with the laws and regulations. The pressure due to the conflicts of interest has a negative impact on job satisfaction with the nature of the work, top management, co-workers, and supervision. Research limitations/implications: This evidence is provided for a relatively small sample of Croatian accountants (N = 85), which could be considered a limitation of our study. Never-theless, our study has important implications for future research that should explore in depth various factors that induce the pressures to breach accounting ethics principles. Originality/value: Our findings fill an important gap in research into job satisfaction and accounting ethics. Since the ethics-related pressures that accountants face have been poorly examined, this paper has made a significant contribution to accounting ethics literature.

W przypadku pielęgniarek i pielęgniarzy problematyka satysfakcji i zadowolenia z pracy rozpatrywana w odniesieniu do motywacji czy zaangażowania pracowniczego, odgrywają szczególną rolę z racji charakteru pracy. Badanie przeprowadzono metodą sondażu diagnostycznego, w którym jako narzędzie wykorzystano standaryzowany kwestionariusz ankiety, w grupie 1066 czynnych zawodowo polskich pielęgniarek i pielęgniarzy.
People spend an average of almost 2 thousand hours a year at their workplaces. Hence, job satisfaction is important, especially in relation to nurses' motivation and commitment. So it requires attention from both management and employees. Recent changes in the labor market in Poland, including those in healthcare, have made the previously dominant model of "a job for life" an anachronism. This paper aims to examine whether the number of past workplaces is related to the current level of personal and job satisfaction and the perception of the current job as "ideal". A diagnostic survey with a standardized questionnaire was main tool in this study, 1066 active Polish nurses responded. The results showed that the experience of the respondents measured as the number of past workplaces had negligible impact on the current level of personal and job satisfaction. However, the level marginally increased with an increase in the number of past workplaces. There was also noticeable impact on the perception of the current job as "ideal", which could be used in managing teams of nurses, especially in motivating them and developing their commitment to work.

This article is an attempt to present the school everyday life of early childhood teachers from their own perspective. Unstructured interviews with narrative elements were carried out. The analysis and interpretation of the obtained data was carried out in accordance with the interpretative paradigm. The surveyed teachers, despite their dissatisfaction with their lack of appreciation (both social and financial) in their stories, emphasize the importance of the benefits of choosing their professional path. Working with children, accompanying them in their development, supporting and teaching them is the most important source of satisfaction with their work. This balancing between poor pay, excessive bureaucracy, ambiguity of social expectations and admiration for children, gaining satisfaction from the possibilities of their own development and unconventionality build the everyday life of early school teachers.
To balansowanie pomiędzy słabym wynagrodzeniem, przerostem biurokracji, niejasnością oczekiwań społecznych a zachwytem nad dzieckiem, czerpaniem satysfakcji z możliwości własnego rozwoju oraz nieszablonowości buduje codzienność nauczycielek edukacji wczesnoszkolnej.

Opis:
The article covers the issue of organisational attachment as well as the job satisfaction in the among staff under flexible employment in Poland. It presents the results of empirical studies covering 872 respon- dents employed (older than 40 years) under nine flexible forms of work: employed for a specified period of time, part-time, commission contracts (contracts of mandate), self-employed people, remote workers (telecommuters), for substitution, temporary and seasonal workers as well as employed under social economy. The research was exploratory in its character due to a lack of data on these variables in the Polish non-traditional forms of employment. Empirical results confirm that the results of organisational attachment and job satisfaction are average and probably don’t differ from the attitudes in traditional forms of employment.

Introduction Research into work reintegration following invasive cardiac procedures is limited. The aim of this prospective study was to explore predictors of job satisfaction among cardiac patients who have returned to work after cardiac rehabilitation (CR). Material and methods The study population consisted of 90 cardiac patients who have recently been treated with coronary angioplasty or heart surgery. They were evaluated during their CR and 12 months after the discharge using validated self-report questionnaires measuring job satisfaction, work stress-related factors, emotional distress and illness perception. Information on socio-demographic, medical and occupational factors has also been collected. Results After adjusting for demographic, occupational and medical variables, baseline job satisfaction (p < 0.001), depression (p < 0.01) and ambition (p < 0.05) turned out to be independent, significant predictors of job satisfaction following return to work (RTW). Patients who had a partial RTW were more satisfied with their job than those who had a full RTW, controlling for baseline job satisfaction. Conclusions These findings recommend an early assessment of patients’ psychosocial work environment and emotional distress, with particular emphasis on job satisfaction and depressive symptoms, in order to promote satisfying and healthy RTW after cardiac interventions.

Objectives: Commercialization of occupational health services (OHS) and transition to a supplier market which started in 1995, has affected work and working conditions of occupational physicians (OPs) profoundly. OPs have lost influence on the organization of their work and managers took over control. This study explores the impact of commercialization on job satisfaction of occupational physicians. Material and Methods: Data were collected through a questionnaire completed by 797 OPs, members of the Netherlands Association of Occupational Medicine (response: 45%). A range of work satisfiers and dissatisfiers measures was included that, according to the Social Action Approach, could explain the variation in job satisfaction. Stepwise multivariate regression analyses were performed to explore to what extent the differences in job satisfaction can be attributed to the characteristics of the setting, biographical variables, satisfiers and dissatisfiers. Results: Occupational physicians in commercial settings had the lowest average score as regards job satisfaction (6.7) contrasting sharply with their colleagues in private practices (8.7) and in non-commercial settings (7.9). The variation in job satisfaction between delivery settings could largely be attributed to satisfiers and dissatisfiers. Biographical characteristics (age, gender) had no effect. The data suggested that not commercialization as such, but the ability of commercial OHS providers to integrate professional values was the crucial factor to bring about job satisfaction. Conclusions: The challenge for commercial OHS providers is to preserve the professional zeal in OPs by integrating professional values in their organization in order to improve the quality of the services and the attractiveness of the profession.

This paper focuses on the connection between workload and job satisfaction among teachers. Research and everyday observation show that the teaching profession brings many highly satisfying situations in combination with situations of increased load, whose negative consequences probably have negative effects on job satisfaction. However, in the case of teachers we can observe a relatively high level of job satisfaction despite relatively high levels of subjective load. A possible explanation may lie in the fact that teachers, at least those who voluntarily remain in their profession, probably manage to counterbalance their (either genuine or perceived) excessive workload by means of other factors when evaluating their work in its entirety. These factors include personality traits related to performance dispositions, temperament, the tendency to select suitable coping strategies, or attempts to maintain a healthy lifestyle, plus – as this research shows – various characteristics with a positive effect on stress management (neuropsychological stability, hardiness, sense of coherence, optimism, etc.).

ObjectivesThe authors characterized the demographic, socioeconomic, and psychosocial work factors associated with performance of unskilled manual work, and then identified the modifiable psychosocial work factors that affected the psychological well-being of these workers.Material and MethodsThis study analyzed data from the fifth Korean Working Condition Survey conducted in 2017. The study subjects were 37 081 Korean employees. The occupational classes investigated were: managers, professionals, and clerks; service and sales workers; and skilled or unskilled manual workers.ResultsUnskilled manual workers were more likely to be elderly and less educated, to have low income, to work fewer hours weekly, to have a shorter work duration, to perform temporary or daily jobs, and to report poor subjective health and well-being. Unskilled manual workers were also more likely to experience psychosocial hazards, such adverse social behaviors, a lack of job satisfaction, a lack of support from managers, and a poor social climate. However, with statistical adjustment for demographic, socioeconomic, and psychosocial work factors, unskilled manual work was no longer associated with poor psychological well-being, but psychosocial work factors were associated with poor psychological well-being.ConclusionsThe poor psychological well-being of unskilled manual workers cannot be explained by the intrinsic nature of this type of work. Instead, the poor psychological well-being of these workers is associated with unfavorable psychosocial work factors, such as a poor employment status, a lack of job satisfaction, a lack of support from managers, and a bad social climate. These results thus suggest that the modification of psychosocial work factors may improve the psychological well-being of unskilled manual workers.

The study attempts to analyse the relationship of selected sociodemographic variables, such as age, gender, education, having a partner, having children, form of employment, work experience, number of hours devoted to work per week, etc. with job satisfaction in emotional terms. The study involved 375 people, professionally active, aged 19–64. Emotional job satisfaction was measured with Jaros’ Energy and Tension at Work Scale (2009). The obtained data indicated that only in a few cases sociodemographic variables were associated with the level of emotional job satisfaction, while other variables were significant from the energy level at work perspective (having a partner, working partner, having children and working outside the office), other were important from the work tension point of view (number of hours of work and overtime work). There were no real differences depending on gender. Age, in turn, was positively related to the level of energy at work and the education level differentiated the perceived tension at work. Study results confirmed the need to include the so-called Transactional Approach in the further research on job satisfaction (Zaleska, 2003) and estimating a larger pool of variables would be advisable. At the same time, they validate the inclusion of selected sociodemographic variables in the analyses, which can perform as intermediary variables in the studied relationships.

The aim of the study is to answer whether 2 predominant values - achievement or social relations - and reactivity influence (a) the importance of work aspects, (b) satisfaction with them and overall job satisfaction, (c) connections between overall job satisfaction and satisfaction with work aspects. Bank employees were investigated with the Strelau Temperament Inventory-Revised by Strelau, Angleitner, Bantelman, and Ruch (1990, reactivity), Orientation to Work Values Inventory by Seifert and Bergmann (1983, values), and Work Description Inventory by Neuberger and Allerbeck (1978; importance and satisfaction with work aspects, overall job satisfaction). Predominant values, reactivity, and their interaction influence the importance of work aspects. The values affect overall job satisfaction and satisfaction with Conditions. Reactivity does not affect overall job satisfaction, but it strongly influences the structure of satisfaction with work aspects, and low-reactives compared to high-reactives are more satisfied with 4 out of the 7 considered aspects. Among the high-reactives, connections between overall job satisfaction and satisfaction with work aspects depend on their predominant values. It was concluded that reactivity can modify regulative functions of personal values towards overall job satisfaction: The values have a rather declarative character for low-reactives, but meeting aspirations connected with their values is very important for high-reactives' job satisfaction.

The main aims of the study were to explore the frequency of missed nursing care (MNC) among Czech hospital nurses, and to find the relationship between nurse’s job satisfaction and MNC.Material and MethodsThe sample consisted of 513 nurses from 9 hospitals in the Czech Republic. Data were collected in January–August 2019 using the standardized MISSCARE Survey questionnaire, complemented with items assessing nurse’s job satisfaction and demographic data.ResultsThe most frequently missed nursing activities were patient ambulation and emotional support to the patient and/or family. The surveyed nurses were most satisfied with being a nurse and least satisfied with the level of teamwork on their unit. The strongest correlation was found between satisfaction with the current position and satisfaction with being a nurse; there was a negative correlation between satisfaction with the current position and the overall level of MNC. There was a significant trend between the rating of satisfaction with the current position and MNC.ConclusionsNurse’s job satisfaction is associated with the level of nursing care provided; more missed care means more dissatisfaction among nurses. Noise exposure is one of the most important physical agents in the workplace which can induce job stress in several ways. The aim of this study was to model the interactions between independent and mediating variables and job stress using structural equation modeling. In this study, Weinstein’s noise sensitivity scale, noise annoyance questionnaire, Health and Safety Executive (HSE) job stress questionnaire and job satisfaction scale were used. To assess worker’s noise exposure, the 8-hours equivalent continuous A-weighted sound pressure level (LAeq;8 h), was measured based on ISO 9612 (2009). To achieve the aims of study, the structural equation model was run using R software 3.4.1 and Cytoscape software 3.6.0. Based on the results, while there was a direct positive correlation of noise exposure on total job stress, there were also indirect positive effects through job satisfaction and noise sensitivity as mediator variables. Using hearing protective devices negatively affected total job stress through a direct pathway and an indirect pathway when job satisfaction was a mediator variable. Regarding the total effect of noise exposure and using hearing protection devices on job stress subscales, it can be concluded that noise exposure and using hearing protection devices had greatest effect on colleagues support and demand, respectively. It can be concluded that noise exposure and lack of hearing protective devices have a significant positive effect on job stress among workers of a textile industry. In addition to the direct effect, this factor can induce job stress through noise sensitivity, job satisfaction and noise annoyance. Therefore, measures which can decrease any of the mentioned factors, also can alleviate job stress.

Work is a basic form of human activity, and job satisfaction becomes a source of life satisfaction. This is particularly essential in the case of teachers. Studies prove that the higher the job satisfaction of teachers is, the lower the rates of burnout. The article presents the issue of professional determinants of job satisfaction derived by male and female teachers in the three stages of professional experience: professional adaptation – 1-5 years of practice; professional stabilisation – 6-20 years of practice; expert stage – 21-35 years of professional activity. It has been researched whether gender and job seniority determine the level of job and life satisfaction gained by the surveyed teachers. Additionally, the correlation between job and life satisfaction of male and female teachers in the specified periods of seniority has been presented.

Purpose – This paper aims to investigate the interplay between international migration, soft skills and job and life satisfaction after returns. Design/methodology/approach – The paper uses the dataset of Human Capital in Poland 2010–2014 representative surveys with 4040 return migrants, who worked temporarily abroad and returned to an origin in comparison with almost 70,000 stayers, who never worked abroad. In this study, Poland is treated as a strategic research site for the labor migration processes, which happened after the biggest European Union enlargement in 2004. Findings – This study discovered that working abroad had a positive relation with cognitive, intrapersonal and interpersonal competencies, as well as job and life satisfaction. However, the relations differ depending on the key destination country. Practical implications – his study discusses the implications for future research and practice, offering recommendations to organizations on how to embed employees with these resources in companies and how to support return migrants and their potential employers with the use of migratory informal human capital in personnel management and counseling. Originality/value – This paper brings quantitative arguments about the hidden impacts of international migration on human capital by uniquely comparing the migrant population with the non-migrant population.

Job satisfaction is becoming a subject of growing interest in organizations. It is justified that job satisfaction has an impact on business performance. Committed staff can be a determining factor in the success of an organization. It is very important to recognize the determinants of job satisfaction. The purpose of the paper is to review the literature concerning about the determinants of job satisfaction. Based on the study of the literature, the author made her own model of determinants of job satisfaction. The final conclusions are related to the empirical study based on job satisfaction survey conducted in the X firm. There is detailed information and analysis on the structure of the factors affecting job satisfaction in this company. The findings obtained from the survey could support theoretical views described in the paper: the determinants which are in the presented model are also present in tested organizations.

This paper explores a number of psychological factors related to work engagement in teachers. Using a sample of 449 lower and upper secondary school teachers, it focuses on the Big Five personality traits, respondents’ age, and several factors based on the teachers’ subjective evaluation of their work - including the meaningfulness of their work, job satisfaction, and workload. The results indicate that teachers’ work engagement is connected primarily with their job satisfaction and perception of the meaningfulness of their work (which functioned as predictors), as well as respondents’ Big Five personality traits (of which extraversion and conscientiousness were predictors). Perceived workload emerged as a negative predictor.

Opis:
For many years, job satisfaction has been one of the most frequently undertaken research problems, first and foremost due to its significance for practice: for management as determinants of an employee's work readiness, for contemporary organisations both as an objective and indicator of organisational effectiveness; psychology is obliged to the significance of professional sphere in a person's life, the influence of job satisfaction on the quality of life and its subjective evaluation. Researchers have a great interest in this area, proof of which can be seen in the number of terms and definitions. Their ambiguity is an important, yet not always obvious, methodological problem. Different research attitude - as a result of ambiguous understanding of phenomena determined as "job satisfaction", "professional satisfaction" vs "dissatisfaction", "no satisfaction" - makes it difficult, and sometimes even impossible, to compare the results. Therefore, the article aims at presenting methodological difficulties faced by a researcher dealing with an interdisciplinary problem of job satisfaction, where doubts appear at the first stage, i.e. establishing definitions.

BackgroundTurnover rates among nurses are much higher than in other professions. This poses a challenge for health managers in all countries. The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors affecting nurses’ turnover and the differences in this area between Iran and Poland.Material and MethodsIn this descriptive cross-sectional study, the population consisted of nurses working in state-owned hospitals in Poland (N = 165) and in Iran (N = 200). Data were collected using the Turnover Intention Scale, the Job Satisfaction Scale, the Work–Family Conflict Scale and the Workplace Support Scale. Use was made of the AMOS 24 and SPSS 22 software for data analysis.ResultsThe results showed that the predicted factors of nurses’ turnover intention in Poland and Iran were different. Workplace support and job satisfaction can reduce turnover intention among Polish nurses while the work–family conflict influences nurses’ turnover intention in Iran.ConclusionsProviding a flexible work plan in Iranian hospitals and enhancing teamwork and improving the spirit of cooperation in Polish hospitals could reduce nurses’ turnover intention in these 2 countries.

Mechanizmy akulturacji zyskują rosnącą uwagę badaczy i praktyków. Jednakże etnocentryczne spojrzenie na relacje pomiędzy grupą większościową i mniejszościową może zarówno zakłócić wnioskowanie naukowe, jak i prowadzić do narastania uprzedzeń. Dlatego istotnym aspektem badań nad akulturacją jest poszukiwanie czynników i zmiennych decydujących o skuteczności przystosowania. Analiza programów badawczych pokazuje, że bardziej trafne mogą okazać się badania skupione na porównaniach międzykulturowych, dotyczących definicji „sukcesu akulturacyjnego”, niż próby narzucenia przedstawicielom różnych kultur jednej efektownej typologii strategii i postaw w relacjach między kulturowych.
Acculturation mechanisms are gaining increasing attention of researchers and practitioners. However, an ethnocentric view of the relationship between majority and minority groups can disrupt scientific reasoning and lead to the accumulation of prejudices. Therefore, an important aspect of research on acculturation is the search for the factors and variableswhich determine the effectiveness of adaptation. An analysis of research agendas shows that exploring the cross-cultural differences of the definition of “acculturative success” seems to be more effective and accurate than considering/using an impressive typology of strategies of intercultural relations imposed on the representatives of different cultures.

Drawing on the model of Grandey (2000), it was proposed that the attitude towards occupation could buffer the negative effects of emotional labour. A total of 173 teachers participated in the study. Attitudes towards occupation, surface acting, emotional exhaustion and job satisfaction were estimated. The indirect measure of the attitude towards occupation was assessed using the Approaching-Avoidance Simulation Method. Confi rmatory Factor Analysis proved the validity and reliability of the indirect measurement, which is based on uncontrolled reactions of the respondents towards stimuli representing the profession. The results revealed a positive correlation between attitudes towards occupation and indicators of employees’ well-being. The indirect measure of attitude towards occupation turned out to be a signifi cant moderator of the relationship between surface acting and job satisfaction. The results raise interesting questions about the connection between indirect measures of attitudes towards occupation and employee well-being.

Przebadano 100 pielęgniarek i 100 osób z grupy kontrolnej.
The profession of a nurse belongs to those professions that occupy high positions in the hierarchy of prestige. One of the main reasons for that is its great social usefulness. Although social research indicates that in their subjective assessment nurses feel undervalued. This article has an empirical character. Its purpose is to determine the differences in the assessment of nurses and women performing other professions in four areas of professional functioning: 1) job satisfaction; 2) opportunities for self-realization at work; 3) the quality of the atmosphere at the workplace; and 4) reconciliation of work and family life. During research 100 nurses and 100 people from the control group were examined. Demographic variables were controlled by selecting the respondents with the “pairing method” in terms of two variables: place of residence and age of the respondents. The questionnaire prepared for this research consisted of 28 questions. Research has revealed that nurses have greater opportunities for self-fulfilment, but with the cost of neglecting family and friends. Their job satisfaction is disrupted by a sense of undervaluation and dissatisfaction with remuneration for work.

BackgroundThe aim of this study was to describe, explain, and compare the correlations between workload, job satisfaction, and occupational stress levels in Polish midwives working before and during the COVID-19 pandemic.Material and MethodsThis study was cross-lagged in nature and conducted in 2 phases at public health facilities. The first phase took place between March and August 2018 before the current pandemic, and the second in February 2021. In total, 133 midwives working before the COVID-19 pandemic and 92 midwives working during the pandemic were surveyed.ResultsAnalysis revealed that working during the pandemic, personal SARS-CoV-2 infection and workload were positive predictors of occupational stress. Midwives working during the pandemic experienced significantly higher levels of occupational stress compared to the period before the pandemic. Job satisfaction was found to be a negative predictor of stress in both groups, and to mediate the correlation between workload and occupational stress. The positive influence of job satisfaction on coping with stress was stronger in the group working during the pandemic.ConclusionsWorkload increased, and job satisfaction decreased, occupational stress levels in both groups of midwives. The COVID-19 pandemic, directly and indirectly, increased midwives’ occupational stress levels, and reinforced the negative correlation between workload and job satisfaction. The results confirm the important role of working conditions in shaping occupational stress levels.

Objectives To identify factors in favor of or against establishing and working in private practice, to determine the quality of life and work-related behavior and experience patterns of German physicians working in private practice, and to analyze the correlation of those factors. Material and Methods A representative sample of physicians in private practice in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, was surveyed according to a 2-year longitudinal design (T1 – 2008, N = 549 and T2 – 2010, N = 414). The study included 22 items regarding the attractiveness of establishing and working in private practice, and the questionnaires: the Short Form-12 Health Survey (SF-12), and Work-related Behavior and Experience Pattern (Arbeitsbezogenes Verhaltens- und Erlebensmuster – AVEM). Results Job satisfaction among those private practitioners decreased over time but their willingness to choose the profession once again remained unchanged. Patient care and the continuity of physician-patient relationship encouraged establishing and working in private practice; state regulation, financial risk, and administrative effort weighed against it. At both T1 and T2, physicians scored significantly lower for mental health than general population. About 20% of physicians showed a healthy behavior and experience pattern but 40% of them showed the pattern of reduced working motivation. About 20% of participants were at elevated risk for overexertion and for burnout. Physical and mental health as well as the total distribution of patterns did not change significantly during the 2-year observation period. Physicians at higher burnout risk rated tasks related to patient care considerably less positively than those with healthy pattern. Conclusions In order to improve job satisfaction and quality of life, and to make private practice more attractive, those German physicians require a) improved legislation, b) educational programs that promote the attractiveness of private practice, and c) highly accessible counseling services for the prevention and treatment of stress, overexertion, and burnout. Objectives This paper presents the results of research on the scale of psychosocial risks among miners. A comparative analysis was made, comparing the research results with the data obtained from workers in the following industries: metal, energy, chemical and construction – along with an indication of the relationship between stressful working conditions and the occupational functioning of the respondents. Material and Methods The study involved 483 adults employed in mines in Poland. The study on psychosocial risks in the workplace was performed using Psychosocial Risk Scale, developed by the Department of Health and Work Psychology of the Nofer Institute of Occupational Medicine, Łódź, Poland. Psychosocial Risk Scale is the scientifically validated diagnostic tool and is characterized by high reliability and validity of coefficients. Results The analysis of differences in occupational functioning between miners and other workers in heavy industry provides that miners are in general more healthy, less stressed, more positive emotionally and normatively committed to work, more satisfied with work, and more stable in the employment (as opposite to turnover intention) than the other workers. The results suggest that miners with a lower level of stress functioned at work better – they evaluated their health and ability to work better than miners with a higher level of stress. Their intention to change a job was lower than among those experiencing more stress. The most pronounced effect was observed for the influence on this dimension of functioning by job context risks (the higher level of probability, and the higher t-test value). Conclusions Occupational functioning of miners in Poland is better than the other employees in heavy industry. The analysis of differences in occupational functioning dimensions provides that a lower level of psychosocial risk in a workplace is connected with a higher level of job satisfaction, positive affective and normative work commitment and a lower level of turnover intension. Objectives Although there have been studies linking personality to selected aspects of functioning at work, Polish literature reports a shortage of detailed analyses considering, e.g., specific professional groups or certain variables. The aim of our study was to explore the links between personality traits and emotional labor, work engagement and job satisfaction among service workers. Material and Methods The study was based on a cross-sectional, self-report survey of 137 workers representing different service industries in Poland. Each participant received a demographic data sheet and a set of questionnaires: NEO Five-Factor Inventory, the Deep Acting and Surface Acting Scale, the Job Satisfaction Scale and the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale – all in their Polish versions. Results A correlation analysis revealed numerous relationships between the examined variables. However, results of the regression analysis showed that only some personality traits were related with individual aspects of functioning at work. Neuroticism accounted for the phenomenon of faking emotions. Conscientiousness was significantly related to general work engagement, vigor and dedication. Agreeableness and neuroticism significantly predicted job satisfaction. Conclusions Individual personality traits account for various aspects of work functioning. Opis:
Background Nurses constitute a crucial professional group within the healthcare system. Job satisfaction and opportunities for professional development directly impact the quality of medical services provided and help prevent burnout. The study aimed to assess the preferred career model, the level of job satisfaction, and determine the type of work-related behavior presented by Polish nurses. Material and Methods A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 795 nurses after the COVID-19 pandemic. Three standardized scales were used: My Career questionnaire to access the preferred career model, the Job Satisfaction Scale, and Work‑Related Behavior and Experience Patterns (Arbeitsbesorgenes Verhaltens und Erlebenmuster – AVEM) questionnaire assessing types of work-related behavior. Descriptive statistics, Spearman’s correlation coefficient, and multiple linear regression were used for analysis of data. Results The results concerning the relationship between the types of work-related behavior, job satisfaction, and the preferred career model revealed that type G (healthy) was significantly and positively correlated (p < 0.05, r > 0) with the Challenge subscale of the career model (r = 0.095, p = 0.007) and job satisfaction (r = 0.136, p < 0.001). The higher the score on the Challenge subscale and greater job satisfaction, the more pronounced type G personality. The multiple linear regression models explained only 2.5 to 5% of the variability of studied questionnaire outcomes but indicated that significant, independent predictors for the My Career questionnaire subscales and AVEM raw scales for each type were additional qualifications, level of education, work experience, and place of work. Significant predictors of the job satisfaction scale were employment in private healthcare facilities and a master’s degree. Conclusions Nurses experience job satisfaction, but the workload, demanding daily tasks, and the sense of responsibility can lead them to feel fatigued and burnt out. The preferred career model involves Security and Stability, as well as Service and Commitment to other domains. Only a small percentage of the variability in the results of the analyzed dependent variables was explained by the explanatory variables included in the model.

The main purpose of the article is to identify the main factors that have the greatest impact on building satisfaction of employees who work in Polish organizations. In addition, the author will try to identify the expectations of respondents that apply to their workplaces and identify the most important problems and barriers in the surveyed organizations, occurring in the processes of human capital management. As the main research method, in addition to the literature analysis, of course, the author chose a survey, in the form of a structured interview, with team leaders and their employees. The entire research process was carried out in 44 purposefully selected Polish organizations, in 2021 (254 employees of these organizations took part in the survey). Of course, due to the number of subjects, the study has a pilot character. Based on the analysis of the literature and the conclusions of the survey, 4 main groups of determinants that have the greatest impact on the level of job satisfaction of respondents have been identified – they have been divided into professional and nonprofessional factors. In addition, the author described the main barriers that generate the most problems and dysfunctions that accompany respondents during their work.

PURPOSE: The aim of the paper is to determine the impact of insolvency of one company from Poland on job and wage satisfaction (as well as the individual perception of the situation of the employee, company and region) among a group of former employees of this insolvent company who became employed by a new employer. DESIGN/METHOD: Conducted research entailed collecting survey data from two groups of employees working at the same company: one group with the experience of company insolvency and a group of employees without such an experience. Data analysis involved the Pearson’s chi-square test of independence and Cramér’s V, as well as Shapiro-Wilk test for normality employed to compare distributions of answers in both analyzed groups. RESULTS/FINDINGS: Conducted analysis confirmed the existence of the relationship between the experience of company insolvency and job and wage satisfaction. Individuals that experienced insolvency of their former employer revealed significantly higher job and wage satisfaction than others. These individuals were also less willing to look for another job, felt appreciated at work and were more optimistic about career perspectives after reemployment. Besides, significant differences between distributions of answers in both analysed groups were observed: for the group of employees with the experience of company insolvency the null hypothesis of normal distribution of answers was rejected for the majority of variables, while in the other group only for one variable. ORIGINALITY/VALUE: It is the first study that analyses the impact of company insolvency on individual perceptions and job and wage satisfaction within a group of former employees that were later employed (as a group) by a new employer.
