Opis:
One of the weakest points of the historical-critical method of interpreting the Bible is the lack of means of appropriate application of the message of biblical texts (treated as texts from a distant past) to our present reality. The theory of German philosopher Hans-Georg Gadamer may provide modern readers of the Bible with various intersubjectively verifiable ways of actualization of biblical texts: dramaturgical, liturgical, iconical, based on tradition and authority, juridical, and imparting wisdom. The last one seems to be the most appropriate for seeking and communicating the message of the Bible in the context of modern European, agnostic culture.

The aim of the article is to examine the philosophical value of the famous and widespread American educational project of the “Philosophy in the Classroom”. To fulfil this task, the author analyses the key concepts and the basic premises of the project in terms of their consistency and philosophical background. The critique is embedded in the conceptual framework of Hannah Arendt’s political philosophy as well as of Hans-Georg Gadamer’s philosophical hermeneutics.

Opis:
In the article one adopt the assume that the communication has the social dimension and is related to human being. One can define it only after the definition of human being. The question: what communication do one need? is closely connected with the results of anthropologic- philosophical researches. The homo-theories of today are much one-sided, first of all they alien the man from his natural and social environment (for instance the symbolism). We propose the definition of man plaited in the environment and we call him homo universus. Helpful is here the romantic and neoromantic philosophy, especially its theory of language and communication.

The main aim of this article is to present Chestertonian idea of the tradition as the democracy of the dead. This idea is also critically compare with the political ideas of Hans-Georg Gadamer and John D. Caputo. The article consists of four main parts. The first part contains a reconstruction of Chesterton’s reflection on democracy of the dead, which inclusiveness do not let to forget the voices of our ancestors. In the second part the thought of Chesterton is polemically juxtaposed with philosophical ideas of Hans-Georg Gadamer, who pointed out the need for constant updating of the tradition to the contemporary requirements. Third part contains a critique of the Chestertonian ideas carried out in the spirit of John D. Caputo’s radical hermeneutics. One of the main goal of this hermeneutics is breaking the unity of tradition. In the fourth part they are presented concrete examples of the struggle of Polish (the construction of the Temple of Divine Providence) and Swiss (debate on changing the national anthem) democracy with the traditions of their ancestors.

In this article I compare Hans-Georg Gadamer’s philosophical hermeneutics and Jacques Derrida’s deconstruction. I try to demonstrate the similarities (focus on language and history), but moreover the differences between them. The core issue is the problem of the other, which appears in the works of both authors. Two perspectives are applied: concerning the notion of text (or tradition), and referring to the field of the political. Gadamer strives to communicate with the other (text) in the mutual understanding, although he has no hope in finding a final sensus communis. Derrida emphasizes the difference underlying every thought, as well as situations of understanding as such. As a result, their visions of democracy differ – subtly, but essentially.

Wiele zostało już powiedziane o religijnych i filozoficznych wpływach obecnych w pracach twórców psychologii głębi. Zygmunt Freud i Carl Gustaw Jung mieli odrębne zapatrywania na religię, mimo to obydwaj usiłowali – za pomocą naukowego, psychoanalitycznego podejścia, które bierze w nawias to, co religijne – odpowiedzieć na cierpienie poszczególnej jednostki oraz zagubienie znaczenia w sekularyzowanym świecie. Celem tego eseju jest ulokowanie jednostkowego cierpienia w szerszej, historycznej strukturze późnej nowoczesności poprzez badanie różnych zagadnień – będących w całkowitej zależności od edukacji, osobowości, rozumu, znaczenia i celu – poruszanych w dziełach Schillera, Kanta, Gadamera, Loewitha, Freuda oraz Junga. W duchu tych analiz można stwierdzić, że indywidualne cierpienie mieści się dzisiaj wewnątrz szerszego nurtu subiektywizacji i deterioryzacji (deterritorialization) w historii idei, które doprowadziły do czegoś, co – zapożyczając się pojęciowo u Gadamera, który mówił o „odróżnieniu estetycznym” – nazywam odróżnieniem psychologicznym. Polega ono na retrospektywnym przywłaszczeniu fundamentów i odpowiedniej pozytywizacji źródeł transcendentalnych w zatomizowanej sferze psychologicznej wewnętrzności jednostki. Za pomocą tej ostatniej możemy być może zacząć rozumieć paradoks świata cyfrowej hiper-łączności, w której cały świat mamy „na kliknięcie myszki”, podczas gdy tracimy jego widok.

W artykule zostają porównane pojęcia gry i prawdy w koncepcji Hansa-Georga Gadamera oraz pojęcia referencji i metafory u Paula Ricoeura. Najpierw autor skupia się na Gadamerze, który przedstawia istnienie dzieła sztuki jako grę. Następnie analizuje, w jaki sposób dzieła literackie mogą służyć za nośniki prawdy i czym ta prawda w kontekście dzieła literackiego jest. Po zakończeniu opisu koncepcji Gadamera autor przechodzi do analizy wybranych wątków z teorii hermeneutycznej Ricoeura. Punktem wyjścia jest zagadnienie różnych rodzajów referencji w tekstach. W powiązaniu z referencją poetycką autor opisuje charakterystyczną cechę tekstów poetyckich – metaforę. Kończąca artykuł część porównawcza ma na celu ukazanie relacji między tymi pojęciami w kontekście hermeneutyki obu filozofów.
The article compares the concepts of play and truth in the philosophy of Hans-Georg Gadamer with the concepts of reference and metaphor in the philosophy of Paul Ricoeur. The author begins by focusing on Gadamer, who presents the existence of artwork as a game. Then, the author analyzes how literary works can serve as carriers of truth and what this truth means in the context of literature. After describing Gadamer’s concepts, the author moves on to the analysis of selected themes from Ricoeur’s hermeneutical theory. The starting point is the issue of different types of reference in texts. In connection with poetic reference, the author describes the characteristic feature of poetic texts - metaphor. The final comparative section of the article seeks to uncover the connections between these concepts within the framework of both philosophers’ hermeneutics.

In this article I try to answer the question if it is true that scientists discover the truth. The question is based on the tradition which the existence of objective truth about reality treats like a myth. I recall the hermeneutics tradition, according to which there is nothing like an objective truth, but there are truths. According to Gadamer, a human being is not the subject who discovers the objective reality, but the interpreter, one who brings out the meaning. On the basis of these framework assumptions I ask two questions. The first of these concerns the object of research for scientists. What is the reality of an interpreter built from? Using a variety of traditions, as referring to Fleck, Wittgenstein and Derrida I give an answer that these are cultural and historical components, not the objects as they are understood in the mathematical sciences. The second question concerns the issue of consciousness of the scientist. In reply I conclude that, despite the fact that the concept of objective truth is empty, it has a character of a white lie. The myth presents in philosophy is false but useful: the conviction of scientists that this myth is true allows for the new meaning to appear.
Artykuł stanowi próbę odpowiedzi na pytanie czy naukowcy odkrywają prawdę? Pytanie to postawione zostaje w oparciu o tradycję, w której istnienie obiektywnej prawdy na temat rzeczywistości jest mitem. Przywołana zostaje tradycja hermeneutyczna, zgodnie z którą istnieją prawdy, a nie prawda. Według Gadamera podmiot nie jest podmiotem poznającym obiektywną rzeczywistość ale interpretatorem, który wydobywa znaczenie, sens w jakim jawi się rzeczywistość. Na bazie tak sformułowanych założeń postawione zostają dwa pytania. Pierwsze z nich dotyczy przedmiotu badań naukowców. Co jest budulcem rzeczywistości interpretatora? Korzystając z różnych tradycji, bo odnosząc się zarówno do Flecka, Wittgensteina, jak i Derridy formułuję odpowiedź, że są to kulturowe i historyczne komponenty, nie zaś przedmioty tak jak się je rozumie w naukach matematycznych. Drugie zaś pytanie dotyczy kwestii świadomości naukowca. Rozważania na ten temat konkluduję twierdzeniem, że mimo tego, że pojęcie prawdy obiektywnej jest puste, przybiera charakter białego kłamstwa. Jest użytecznym – bo pozwalającym by świat ukazał się w pewnym ze swych znaczeń – ale jednak mitem przekonanych o jego prawdziwości naukowców.

In the article, I explore the many faces of violence and vulnerability evoked in religious and secular painting. Drawing upon Hans-Georg Gadamer’s phenomenology of art as play, I aim to show that the creative activity of both the artist and the viewer exceeds the mere actualization of the past event or the instantiation of poetic fantasy. Bringing into conversation Bosch’s, Caravaggio’s, Millais’s, and Waterhouse’s masterpieces, this essay interrogates how their embodiments of the uncanny proximity of violence and vulnerability as two conflicting sides of our human experience complicate the expected symmetry and clear-cut distinction between belligerency and gentleness, powerfulness and the powerlessness, benevolence and malevolence. Inviting us to appreciate the authenticity of their subtle meanings in the continuous veiling and unveiling (Verbegung/Entbergung) of truth, the selected artworks prompt, simultaneously, a possibility of our self-recognition. In the process of our patient tarrying in front of them, we are called on to attend to and acknowledge the more complex realities that speak to our lived experience and defy its apparent homogeneity.

Hans-Georg Gadamer wskazuje na dwa klucze do prawidłowego rozumienia humanistyki. Pierwszym z nich jest pojęcie kształcenia („Bildung”), zaś drugim – hermeneutyka prawnicza. W niniejszym artykule próbuję odnieść wskazane twierdzenie Gadamera do problematyki edukacji prawniczej. Aplikacja ta prowadzi do trzech wniosków: a) o potrzebie włączania praktyki do edukacji prawniczej, b) o potrzebie humanizacji edukacji prawniczej, c) o potrzebie zindywidualizowanego podejścia do studiowania prawa.
Hans-Georg Gadamer claims that there are two keys to a proper understanding of the humanities. The first is the concept of Bildung, and the other – legal hermeneutics. This article is an attempt to apply Gadamer’s claim in the field of legal education. This application leads to three conclusions: a) the need to involve practice to legal education, b) the need for humanization of legal education, c) the need for an individualized approach to law studies.
