The article shows the conclusions from the analysis of the relationship between the media and suicide terrorism. The phenomenon of suicide is poorly written lately, although it has been present in our culture since antiquity. Psychologically, suicide is opposed to self-preservation. In the 21st century, we are threatened by many different threats that bring us the ever-changing world and related processes. These processes can be analyzed from different perspectives, such as social, industrial, scientific and technological perspectives. In the article, I deal with terrorism as the greatest danger of our time and I analyze this phenomenon from the historical and contemporary point of view.

This paper introduces an educational robotics course offered as one of the Interdisciplinary Studies Courses under General Education category at a liberal art college that serves predominately underprivileged population of students from neighboring communities in New Jersey. It also presents the case study to examine participated students’ learning from the course. The results show that, although the focus of the course is the educational robotics and programming to control robots created with LEGO Mindstorms, the students identified their learning of collaboration and cooperation skills as well as communication skills as one of the best learning outcomes from the course.

This paper focuses on the preschool education system in England. It is an attempt to present the most important information, institutions and programs in English childcare and early education. It looks at good monitoring ideas implemented in the everyday running of nurseries: the Parental Webcam and CCTV. The Parental Webcam gives parents the opportunity to „drop in” via internet at any time and see their child in the nursery. Not surprisingly, given the option, most parents would now choose a nursery that has a Parental Webcam installed. CCTV gives maximum protection and security for staff and children in the nursery and other childcare environments. Also presented are the main principles of the Early Years Foundation Stage programme, which is the base of all Early Years Learning and Childcare. Nurseries in Poland would benefit from adopting some of these ideas, such as the monitoring technology.

The article describes the process of developing the Polish-Germany military cooperation in the 21st century. It presents the bases for the bilateral military relationships between Poland and Germany and shows their development. The paper underlines the role of Germany in the Polish participation in NATO. The Author describes the common initiatives after joining the Pact, especially the participation of Bundeswehr in training and technical modernisation of the Polish armed forces. He claims that after the year 2015, the Polish-German military cooperation will be a function of Germany’s pragmatics and Poland’s history politics. The main problem of the Polish government will be the German willingness to constantly build NATO military bases in Poland.

Celem artykułu jest prześledzenie – w kontekście popularnej wśród mieszkańców i magistratu wizji Łodzi jako metropolii – zmian, jakie zachodziły w zabudowie Łodzi na przestrzeni ostatnich 20 lat. Analizie zostały poddane głównie te obiekty architektoniczne i założenia modernizujące przestrzeń i układ miasta, które w powszechnym odbiorze mieszkańców oraz współczesnych mediów korzystnie wpływają na jego wizerunek. W skrótowy sposób zaprezentowano najbardziej udane przekształcenia urbanistyczne (modernizacja ulic, Dworzec Tramwajowy Centrum oraz próba stworzenia Nowego Centrum Łodzi), jak też rewitalizacje licznych w mieście terenów pofabrycznych (Manufaktura, OFF Piotrkowska, elektrownia EC1). Omówiono też nowe realizacje, jak Dworzec Łódź Fabryczna, nowe hotele oraz licznie powstające w ostatnich latach biurowce.
The aim of the article is to analyze the changes that have taken place in the development of the building structures in Łódź over the last twenty years in the context of the popular vision of Łódź as a metropolis city. Such concept is particularly popular among the city’s inhabitants and the city magistrate. The architectural objects which were taken into consideration have a positive impact on the image of Łódź, according to the common perception of Łódź residents and its modern media. The most successful urban transformations (streets modernization, the Centrum Tram Station and the attempt to create a New Center for Łódź) are briefly presented, as well as revitalizations of the post-factory areas in the city (“Manufaktura”, OFF Piotrkowska, EC1 powerhouse). New projects are also under consideration, such as Łódź Fabryczna Station, new hotels and office buildings that have been constructed in recent years.

Given the reliance of the contemporary IT professional training process on a predetermined scenario for success outlined in educational programs and confined within local needs our research aimed to identify and examine effective ways of integrating spiritual and professional development for future specialists in the field of digital (IT) technologies. Our assumption was that the development of core values as a spiritual component of IT specialists influences the effectiveness of acquiring 21st century skills and shapes their professional competence. A correlational study was conducted to explore the relationship between the level of formation of core values in future IT specialists and the level of 21st century skills in these individuals. The research strategy was based on the application of distinct methods (Schwartz, S. H. (1992), Hixson, 2012, mathematical statistical methods – Kendall’s correlation analysis) to test the effectiveness of the author’s model. Its conceptual idea is to confirm the hypothesis that higher levels of 21st century skills correlate with higher levels of core values in future IT specialists. The results of the tasks revealed correlations between higher levels of 21st century skills and the core values of future IT specialists. This allowed confirming the leading idea of the research: Ukrainian students in IT specialties demonstrate the ability to acquire 21st century skills associated with values that support a “positive” vector in the functioning of an individual (benevolence, conformity, security, traditions, universalism, stimulation, and independence).

Societal changes have, throughout history, pushed the long-established boundaries of education across all grade levels. Technology and media merge with education in a continuous complex social process with human consequences and effects. We, teachers, can aspire to understand and interpret this volatile context that is being redesigned at the same time society itself is being reshaped as a result of the technological evolution. The language-learning classroom is not impenetrable to these transformations. Rather, it can perhaps be seen as a playground where teachers and students gather to combine the past and the present in an integrated approach. We draw on the results from a previous study and argue that Digital Storytelling as a Process is capable of aggregating and fostering positive student development in general, as well as enhancing interpersonal relationships and self-knowledge while improving digital literacy. Additionally, we establish a link between the four basic language-learning skills and the Digital Storytelling process and demonstrate how these converge into what can be labeled as an integrated language learning approach.

With the start of the new century, and especially during the last decade, many writers are starting to putt he focus on the body and its various problems derived from the current socioeconomic system. One of them is Marta Sanz, for whom, in her own words, writing consists of “naming the body” and, thanks to that, “conquering the territory”. His discourse is frontally opposed to the discourse of postmodernity and to the models of advanced capitalism, above all and more consciously in his latest novels. The analyses of the security environment of the second decade of the 21st century clearly indicate that the period will be recorded in history as a decade of change, a time of discontinuation. Liberal democracy ceases to be the dominant paradigm, and the challenging of the liberal-democratic ideas is the most profound change since the establishment of the democratic order in the West in 1945. We are facing a growing gap between societal expectations and the abilities of the governments as well as the results that they deliver – the function of the state is changing, and governing is becoming ever more difficult. It is highly likely that the consequences of these changes will be more serious than the end of the Cold War and the collapse of the Soviet Union. The basic principles of the international order created after World War II are becoming increasingly obsolete. It appears obvious that these changes affect not only individual societies in the West, but also global international relations. These changes are accompanied by a scientific and technological revolution, in particular with regard to information. These phenomena can and should be analysed in terms of changes in the security environment understood as a mix of opportunities, challenges, threats and risks. This applies to the European Union in particular, as well as to the entire continent. It is reasonable to assume that risks and threats to Europe gain new depth within this context.

The article develops the analysis of recurrent kitschy motifs in poetry and prose by Justyna Bargielska. This authoress consciously and intensively takes advantage of pop-cultural kitsch, kitsch connected to maternity and femininity, sacrokitsch and consolatory kitsch used in mourning practices. She derives many fetishized objects from these areas and transforms them into private talismans; she also borrows many established pop-cultural visions that serve her heroines to create their identity, but sometimes these patterns become a costume for individual fears and phantasies. The term ‘kitschism’ was invented by Bargielska herself and it suggests intellectual distance towards the figures and requisites used. The writer’s attitude towards kitschy cliches is developed as a dialectical movement of attraction and repulsion, and is not meant to overthrow dominant stereotypes; this approach is often similar to camp strategies, yet it extends beyond ludic or ironic games. Bargielska is interested mainly in the anthropological aspect of kitsch, which is situated between the individual and the community. The writer tests the usefulness of cliches while confronting her heroines with the most serious subjects, like death, love or loss.

This paper has two objectives – the first one is to present the current state and prospects of Poland’s commitment in NATO-led crisis management operations. The second aim is to give recommendations for policy makers (what is the author’s assumption) for this area. The author is trying to give answers to some research questions like: What is NATO’s role in Poland’s Security Policy? What is the role of crisis management operations in NATO’s strategy from Lisbon. How was Poland participating in NATO’s missions in last few years? And what are their consequences? The answers to these questions will help to make a number of general and specific conclusions. They also allow enunciating many recommendations which were placed in the final section of the text. The author encourages, among others, equal treatment of collective defense and crisis management operations. And the commitment in the above, which allows Poland’s real potential. The author also makes the thesis, telling us about the need for a civil capacity to assist countries in the process of transformation. All of the recommendations are properly backed up and create a field for a content-related discussion on the following subject.

In this paper, we discuss the notion of Positive Language Education (PLE), which stems from a combination of Positive Education and Language Education. We suggest that there are good reasons for language educators to engage in enhancing 21st century skills alongside the promotion of linguistic skills. One key set of 21st century competences that would have academic and non-academic benefits are those which promote wellbeing. Wellbeing is indeed the foundation for effective learning and a good life more generally. Drawing on ideas from Content and Integrated Language Learning and Positive Education, PLE involves integrating non-linguistic and linguistic aims in sustainable ways which do not compromise the development of either skill set, or overburden educators. We believe that there are strong foundations on which to build a framework of PLE. Firstly, many language teachers already promote many wellbeing competences, in order to facilitate language learning. There is also a growing body of research on Positive Psychology in Second Language Acquisition on which further empirical work with PLE interventions can be developed. Building on the theoretical arguments put forward in this paper, we call for an empirically validated framework of PLE, which can be implemented in diverse cultural and linguistic settings.

The paper aims to introduce research in the field of the literary imagology and text semiotics. It focuses on the analysis of the creation of “autoimage”, or rather a self-image, and “hereroimage”, or a counter-mage, the image of otherness, as a means of shaping national identity, by interpreting the artistic texts written by the Czech writer Jáchym Topol and the Russian writer Vladimir Sorokin. It pays attention particularly to their novels from the first decade of the 21st century. The texts will be compared in a broader context of social discourse. Moreover, it will address the issue of the disproportion between the intensity of attention of one nation to another (Czech-Russian and Russian-Czech) and the differences in the perception of cultural distance.

For the first time in history, the education system has experienced a crisis situation on a global scale, leading to total and forced isolation in social life and communication. In March 2020, full-time classes at universities in Poland were suspended due to the epidemic caused by the COVID-19 coronavirus. This state of affairs resulted in the need to shift scientific and didactic work to be “remote”. This article aims to present students’ opinions on e-learning and blended learning after several months of experience with such forms of learning. The main research problem was formulated as follows: “What are the Polish students’ opinions of e-learning during the pandemic?” The method of diagnostic survey and the questionnaire technique called the SWOT were used in the empirical research. The research was conducted in May and June 2020 in three selected universities. A total of 314 students took part in it. The results indicate that remote teaching has both specific strengths and weaknesses and that there are many opportunities and threats associated with this form of teaching; nevertheless, a larger proportion of the data were related to the weaknesses. Undoubtedly, there are still many activities that should be introduced into practice and everyday academic education. Perhaps a creative solution will be to introduce only some elements of distance learning, which can contribute to a better acquisition of IT and digital competences and can help students develop activity, self-discipline, and independent learning.

Aim. The aim of the study is to research ways of developing adult learners’ 21st century skills in a culture-based language learning course applying innovative teaching/learning tools and methodologies considering adult learners’ specific needs and special educational treatment required to overcome learning barriers. Methods. Data collection methods include teachers’ accounts in the form of reflective essays on their pedagogical experience collected from 14 teachers. For data analysis and interpretation constant comparative method to elicit themes/categories and create construct mapping to make connections between ideas and themes has been used. Results and conclusion. An on-line learning course for adult learners, including blended-learning, must be based on classic adult learning principles considering the given socio-cultural context, learners’ backgrounds, needs, motivation, learning styles and strategies. The adult learners’ skills developed and cultural knowledge increased will help them in enriching their knowledge and competences, thus leading to higher upskilling and higher employability and quality, as well as becoming true lifelong learners. Research restrictions. The current paper deals with the analysis of the first stage of the research – teachers’ feedback and course creation. The second stage comprising observation and feedback obtained during the course piloting eliciting learners’ and teachers’ data will be analysed in a later article. Practical application. The research findings are useful in selecting suitable methodologies and approaches for language learning courses for adult learners, possibly for other courses as well. Originality/Cognitive value. The current research enables understanding adult learning context and specifics to secure special educational treatment required to overcome learning barriers and develop adult learners’ 21st century skills in a culture-based blended-learning course.

Black metal in the 21st century, especially In Poland is resurrecting. The 1990’s was a rough time for this musical genre due to its rebellious nature. Modern black metal, highly developed by polish bands, is highly different than its generic predecessor. What is observed is an innovative direction to black metal form and content which structures an avant-garde genre, aspiring to enter the popular culture.

The main aim of the article is a consideration the problems connected with this part of contemporary literature which is called “proza środka” (“prose of the middle”). 21st century novels treated as the examples of this phenomenon (e.g. Lubiewo written by Michał Witkowski, Poczwarka by Dorota Terakowska, Kurator by Zbigniew Kruszyński) and their reception prove that new political situation after 1989 changes the rules of common literary perception. The readers expectations support origination of textes which are ambitious, attractive but also easy to assimilation. The main theme of that part of prose is freedom, especially freedom of the indyvidual.

The aim of the article is to assess the currently effective limiting mechanisms for debt incurrence capability of Polish local government units (LGU), which is based on the size of the generated operating surplus. Moreover, the article includes a verification of a hypothesis stating that from 2011, the level of operating surplus significantly influences the investment decisions of LGUs. The article also skeptically scrutinizes the introduction of the operating surplus generation imperative with reference to the LGU subsector (a legal ban of deficit in the current part for LGUs) without similar restrictions regarding the central subsector, which was responsible for about 93% of total public debt in 2001-2016. The methodology applied includes statistical data analysis, as well as a dogmatic-legal method. The dependence of debt incurrence capability on generated operating surplus is to be positively appraised – the financial ratio which incorporates the size of the surplus is an indicator that defines a safe level of debt and therefore accurately reflects the financial condition and credit capabilities of LGUs. This value determines, not only the formal, but also the real credit capability of the unit. The reform of the LGU finance system without any additional constraints on the central level will not lead to the general rejuvenation of the public finance.

Unlike four decades ago, today-safe in our privilege-we, Poles, are allowed to protest. Irrespective of the brutality of the riot police and despite evident instances of the abuse of justice, the consequences of participation in peaceful demonstrations are incomparably less tragic than it was the case in the early 1980s. And yet it would be impossible not to notice the profundity of the yawning abyss between the palpable reality of desperate acts of self-immolation and the safety of Facebook-based philippics, between the individual tragedies of dying hunger strikers and the “intimate revolts” of those who-having much too much to lose-speak out against the collapse of essential values in the serene sanctuary of their homes. The tragedy of the irony of the self-fashioned righteousness seems to match the irony of the real tragedies: the (post)modern hamartia seems to be well illustrated by the difference between two musical interpretations of Ernest Bryll’s disconcerting protest song “I Still Carry My Poems,” first arranged and performed in the 1980s by Tomek Opoka, and then reinterpreted and reinvented in 2009 by the Banana Boat, whose version was included in an album created by Piotr Bakal in memory of the blind bard. The present reflections, therefore, address the phenomenon of the ironic protest, in which self-made heroes thrive, and tragic protesters become invisible, their humanity transformed into an icon.

Julia Fiedorczuk’s academic, journalistic and critical activity invites readings of her poetry in the context of ecopoetics, which she actively promotes. Her ecocritically oriented poems explore the links between poetry and natural environment, proposing an interdisciplinary practice of cocreation of the human and non-human world, as well as a re-evaluation of our understanding of the relations between them. It is, at the same time, a type of poetry that exposes its gender affiliation; it evokes and deconstructs the culturally instilled associations between femininity and nature, and formulates questions pertaining to identity and metaphysics. The relationship of the People’s Republic of China with the French Republic was initiated in 1964 and has been constantly evolving since then. The 21st century and the changes taking place in the international system have contributed to the growth of China’s position in the international arena as a superpower, while France has been trying to maintain its dominant position in the European Union for two decades. Both countries have a lot in common and divide. The element that binds both countries together is their status in the UN Security Council, their ambivalent attitude to the superpower status of the United States, and the mutual willingness to expand economic cooperation. Among the factors that differ Beijing and Paris, there are rivalries in Africa and the approach to human rights. This does not change the fact that France is one of the main directions of China’s European policy and makes it one of Beijing’s most important political and economic partners. The international situation that both the Chinese and French governments have to face may contribute to a change in bilateral relations in the near future and the need for both sides to look for another partner in the region - in Europe through China and in Asia through France. This article aims to highlight the most important aspects of Sino-French relations in the 21st century, with particular emphasis on political and economic cooperation, especially in the context of the coronavirus pandemic. Outlining these aspects in the relations between China and France determines the construction of the article, which consists of three main parts corresponding to the relevant issues. The aim of this article is also to answer a number of research questions, such as: what were the most important controversial issues in Sino-French relations? Has the title of the most important politicians at the head of China and France influenced bilateral relations? Do relations with France’s changing relations affect the international position of the PRC? Among the research materials used in this article, Polish, English and French-language literature can be mentioned, because access to Chinese materials is extremely difficult, including their translation into other languages. A number of research methods have been used to analyze this research problem, including historical analysis and description or decision method.
Отношения Китайской Народной Республики с Французской Республикой берут свое начало с 1964 года и с тех пор постоянно развиваются. ХХI век и изменения в международной системе способствовали росту позиции Китая на международной арене как сверхдержавы, в то время как Франция пытается сохранить свое доминирующее положение в Европейском Союзе в течение двух десятилетий. Обе страны имеют много общего, как и различий. Элементом, связывающим обе страны, является их статус в Совете Безопасности ООН, их двойственное отношение к сверхдержаве - Соединенным Штатам Америки - и взаимная готовность расширять экономическое сотрудничество. Факторы, которые отличают Пекин от Парижа, это соперничество в Африке и подход к правам человека. Тем не менее это не меняет того факта, что Франция является одним из основных направлений европейской политики Китая и одним из важнейших политических и экономических партнеров Пекина. Международная ситуация, с которой сталкиваются правительства Китая и Франции, может способствовать изменению двусторонних отношений в ближайшем будущем, а также тому, что обеим сторонам придется искать другого партнера в регионе - в Европе через Китай и в Азии через Францию.

Aim. This article aims to evaluate the target course created and the development of adult learners’ 21st century skills during the course implementation in six EU countries. Concept. European Cultural Heritage and Skills Development Course is a culture-based blended-learning course created within the framework of the Erasmus+ project “Cultural Knowledge and Language Competences as a Means to Develop 21stCentury Skills” conducted in six EU countries: Croatia, Latvia, Slovenia, Romania, Poland and Czech Republic (Project No.2018-1-HR-01-KA204-047430; 2018-2021). The course content is presented in a form of a story, applying innovative methodologies and tools increasing adult learners’ cultural knowledge and ensuring the skills development. This article focusses on blended-learning in particular, and the course evaluation given by learners and teachers after the course implementation in the six partner countries as well as the development of adult learners’ 21st century skills. Results and conclusion.The results indicate a positive evaluation of the learning platform, the learning methodologies and tasks as well as a positive trend considering the development of learners’ 21st century skills, including the English language competences. Although the results varied from country to country, no extremely significant differences between the evaluation done by learners and the teachers were found, thus the course may be applicable to adult teaching/learning. Practical application.The created blended-learning course may be a viable option for developing adult learners’ 21st century skills and increasing their cultural awareness of the less known EU intangible cultural heritage.   Originality.The contribution describes the difference between flipped, hybrid and blended-learning and introduces a novel approach of creating a blended-learning course for adult learners.

This study reports on EFL student teachers’ opinions, beliefs and their self-awareness of developing 21st century skills, particularly the 4Cs: critical thinking, creativity, communication, collaboration, in the Polish educational context. A questionnaire designed for the purpose of this study was administered to 53 participants who were all student teachers of English enrolled in bachelor’s and master’s degree programmes. The survey results indicate that although the majority of the participants showed a low level of understanding of what 21st century skills are, they were fairly positive about integrating them into foreign language classroom instruction. At the same time, the teacher trainees tended to overrate their own abilities to develop the 4Cs in their future students. These findings suggest a greater need to raise FL teachers’ awareness as to the implementation of particular 21st century skills in the classroom. It is also postulated that enhancing such skills among student teachers in the course of teacher training is a prerequisite for 21st century skills-oriented pedagogy.

The article discusses Edward Pasewicz’s poetry from the perspective of an organic metaphor, developed by the poet in his latest volumes (Pałacyk Bertolta Brechta [Bertolt Brecht’s Palace] and Och, Mitochondria. The author considers whether Pasewicz’s interest in the reflection on tissues, cells and DNA strands, and the idea of combining them with the issue of poetic coding, may be seen as an attempt at resolving the impasse between mythical and realistic forces of this work, or whether it merely constitutes a supplementation to the earlier proposed strategies of translating life into reality. Juxtaposing Pasewicz’s experiments with biopoetry and seeking in them a chance to transcend the poetics of the author of Dolna Wilda [The Lower Wilda], I come to the conclusion that in this case the organic metaphor serves further exploration of a private mythology; but it turns out to be not very productive for the rethinking of the concept of life and community.

Idea zrównoważonego rozwoju w dobie permanentnego postępu technologicznego i cywilizacyjnego z jednej strony i braku poszanowania środowiska naturalnego z drugiej powoduje, że edukacja młodego pokolenia w XXI wieku ma szczególną rolę do spełnienia. Edukacja na rzecz zrówno-ważonego rozwoju, aby osiągnęła zamierzony efekt, potrzebuje holistycznego rozumienia środowiska jako układu stosunków ekologicznych, ekonomicznych i społeczno-kulturowych, w otoczeniu których egzystuje młody człowiek-uczeń. W opracowaniu wskazano zadania dla nauczycieli, którzy mają prowadzić świadomą edukację zgodnie z ideą zrównoważonego rozwoju. Dokonano również analizy podstawy programowej obowiązującej w różnych typach szkół oraz standardów kształcenia nauczycieli. Uzyskane wyniki wskazują, iż problematyka edukacji zrównoważonego rozwoju jest marginalizowana w procesie kształcenia. Konieczne są zatem pilne zmiany w tym obszarze, które są niezwykle istotne dla rozwoju polskiego społeczeństwa XXI wieku.
The idea of sustainable development in the era of permanent technological and civilization progress on the one hand, and the lack of respect for the environment on the other gives the education of young generation in the twenty-first century a special role to play. Education for sustainable development in order to achieve the desired effect requires a holistic understanding of the environment as a system of ecological, economic and socio-cultural relations in which a man exists. Recommendations for the implementation of education for sustainable development, recognized as a prerequisite for its realization, were adopted in a number of documents and declarations made at the highest levels of international organizations. Overcoming the problems of the contemporary world and the entrance to the path of sustainable development can only take place by taking concerted action by all countries and education serving the cause must be a common, international goal.

Opis:
The article concentrates on analysing the growing interest of academics in studying advertisements. While arguing why this perspective of reading literature may bring interesting critical results, the article focuses mainly on the character of Anna Csillag and its evolution through the twentieth century. Originally Anna Csillag was created as an advertising strategy to be used in selling hairgrowth cream. Boasting beautiful hair, the character grew in popularity across Europe, turning into a public icon of the first half of the twentieth century. Anna Csillag appears as a fictional character in Bruno Schultz’s story Księga (The Book). The article also traces other references to this figure in the twentieth and twenty-first century literary and artistic works.

The article is an attempt to interpret Maciej Robert’s poetic output to date. It provides a description of the poet’s most crucial means of expression, his unique manner of imagining and the main thematic areas which are present in his poems. Another subject of reflection the articles focuses on are also the transformations his poetry undergoes and the significant inspirations he draws from such authors as Tomasz Różycki and Krzysztof Siwczyk.
Artykuł jest próbą interpretacji dotychczasowego dorobku łódzkiego poety Macieja Roberta. Opisuje najważniejsze składowe dykcji poety, specyfikę jego obrazowania oraz główne obszary tematyczne obecne w tej liryce. Przedmiotem refleksji są także zmiany zachodzące w twórczości Macieja Roberta oraz ważne dla niego inspiracje, czerpane między innymi od Tomasza Różyckiego i Krzysztofa Siwczyka.

This study examined the extent to which English as a Foreign Language (EFL) high-school students believed mobile devices increase learning and learner satisfaction in the Thai school/classroom context, and whether they are prepared for autonomous learning using these devices. The participants were 277 students in eight high-schools in Southern Thailand who completed a questionnaire constructed around the core competencies of 21st century learning skills and autonomous traits in relation to mobile device use. The findings indicated that students had access/ability to use mobile devices, and either agreed/strongly agreed that mobile devices increase their learning potential and satisfaction, suggesting they are ready for autonomous learning using mobile devices in partnership with their 21st century learning skills. Recommendations are made for teachers and policy-makers to allow students to complement their learning using mobile devices.

The article contains reflections on up-to-date theoretical knowledge and the need for the development of aesthetic education. The argument was derived from the philosophy of Henri Bergson, accepting the description of the concept of duration, variability and their interdependence as categories. The concept of creativity is approached with its distinction into artistic and lifelong creativity, showing the evolution of their differentiation and unification. The author indicates important and currently unresolved problems of aesthetic education.

Forms of dialogue between memory and history in the Lithuanian humanities after 1990: On the use of oral historyThis article is devoted to the tradition of research using the method of oral history which has developed in the Lithuanian humanities since the country’s independence. It attempts to explain how Lithuanian scholars have employed the method and what challenges they face using it; what research problems they have resolved as a result and what they still hope to achieve in the near future; what studies based on the method of oral history should be considered the most important and display the highest potential in the context of developments in the Lithuanian humanities. The first part of the article discusses various challenges faced by Lithuanian scholars who rely on oral history as their main research tool. Podczas pisania tego artykułu poszukiwano odpowiedzi na następujące pytania: W jaki sposób na przełomie XX i XXI wieku litewscy przedstawiciele nauk humanistycznych korzystają z metody badawczej oral history oraz wobec jakich wyzwań stają? Jakie zagadnienia badawcze były, są i będą rozwiązane w najbliższej przyszłości dzięki wykorzystaniu tej metody? Jakie teksty wykorzystujące metodę oral history należy uznać za najważniejsze i o największym potencjale w kontekście procesów zachodzących w litewskiej humanistyce? Artykuł składa się z dwóch części. W pierwszej omówiono różnego rodzaju wyzwania, przed którymi stają badacze litewscy wykorzystujący oral history jako główne narzędzie badawcze. W drugiej części tekstu skupiono się na prezentacji i omówieniu konkretnych przykładów zakończonych sukcesem badań z wykorzystaniem metody wywiadu oraz sposobów rozwiązywania pojawiających się problemów.

The paper presents changes in the language that is used in the definition of minority groups, especially women, non binary and black people. It also analyzes the challenges faced in the translation of this literature and in that which is written in Polish. Drawing both on official sources, such as the expertise of the Polish Language Council of the Polish Academy of Sciences, and on the bottom-up language guides developed by people belonging to minority groups, the situations requiring negotiation and also the search for appropriate language (new grammar, pronouns, performativity of forms) is illustrated, indicating ways to minimize the inequalities linguistic hierarchy.

W artykule podjęta została próba sympoietycznej lektury tekstów Julii Fiedorczuk. By określać teksty sympoietycznymi, potrzebny jest balans dwóch elementów: z jednej strony na świat patrzeć musimy przez pryzmat biotycznej siatki, z drugiej strony – perspektywa ta pojawić powinna się w związku ze sprzeciwem wobec wykorzystywania przez człowieka świata więcej‑niż‑ludzkiego i uczestniczących w nim istot przez wzgląd na własne, antropoegoistyczne korzyści (termin zaproponowany przez Donnę Haraway, a zapożyczony i odniesiony do literatury przez Aleksandrę Ubertowską). Ważnym elementem tej lektury pozostaje także ekofeminizm poezji Fiedorczuk.
The article attempts a sympoietic reading of Julia Fiedorczuk’s texts. Sympoietic texts (a term proposed by Donna Haraway and used in relation to literature by Aleksandra Ubertowska) are distinguished by a balance of two elements. On the one hand, we have to look at the world through the prism of the biotic grid. On the other hand, this perspective exposes human exploitation of the more‑than‑human world and the beings participating in it for the sake of one’s own anthropoegoistic benefits. The ecofeminism of this poetry also remains an important element in this reading.

The paper deals with the topic of ecologically oriented poetry of Krystyna Miłobędzka as a vital tradition for 21st-century Polish ecopoets. The author tries to trace the changes in the poetic canon after 1990 and shows the increasing interest in Miłobędzka’s poetry among modern poets. By analyzing mainly meta-poetic texts, the paper contrasts Miłobędzka’s posthumanistic, “event-driven” way of writing with the humanistic lyrical subject of Wisława Szymborska’s poetry. The author presents the former as more influential and more productive for modern, ecopoetic styles, including elements such as: waking the awareness, organic perspective of language, an egalitarian way of life and thinking about relations in categories of space and adhesion rather than domination.

We are living in the time of intertextuality, when — following Mikhail Bakhtin — every expression is saturated with a resonance of dialogue. Therefore, to understand the style of an artistic expression, we should also consider its imminent dialogic quality. The article presents the works of Polish composers, beginning with Karol Szymanowski, from the perspective of six intertextual strategies elicited from the concept of Stanisław Balbus (Między stylami/Between Styles), a Polish literary theoretician. They are: (1) “active continuation” (adaptation of past models); (2) “restitu-tion of the form” (conscious reference to a form present within the field of cultural awareness, due to its formal fitness for the taken up expressive tasks); (3) “open imitation of models” (a model is perceived as an authoritative vehicle for values); (4) “a stylistic reminiscence” (a “memory” of the model under the brand of an individual statement) (5) “cultural transposition of a theme” (the transmigration of motifs, themes, and significant gestures, the phenomenon of the active topoi); (6) “styling” (the key type of intertextuality, emphasising the nature of intertextual and interstylistic connections). Looking at the Polish music of the 20th and the first decade of the 21st century, a number of general claims favoured by the intertextual perspective can be made. (1) Polish music set in tradition: tradition perceived as an inter-text, and building an inter-context for the pieces created. (2) Reinforced at the foundations of the Polish music created “here and now” is the sense of dialogue, opening to the other. (3) The value of the work as such is emphasised in Polish music. (4) Against the preached concepts of “the death of the author” or “the weak subject”, a powerful need for the creation of own style is still present. (5) As an inter-text, the work becomes even stronger semantically loaded.

Przeprowadzone badanie stanowi porównanie dwóch medialnych reprezentacji w czasie tzw. kryzysu migracyjnego na granicy polsko-białoruskiej. Celem artykułu jest znalezienie odpowiedzi na następujące pytania badawcze: jakie ramy medialne dominowały od połowy sierpnia do listopada 2021 r. w dwóch tygodnikach opinii – konserwatywnym „Sieci” oraz lewicowym „Przeglądzie”; czy poprzez ramy medialne możemy śledzić przebieg debaty na temat „kryzysu migracyjnego” i tworzenie się medialnego dyskursu; czy zastosowanie określonych ram odzwierciedla profil ideowy badanych mediów oraz ujawnia ich sentymenty polityczne? Metodą badania, którą zastosowano, jest analiza ramowa będąca częścią analizy zawartości. Łącznie przebadano 65 tekstów o charakterze publicystycznym. Analiza pozwoliła sformułować następujące wnioski: 1. Dominującą ramą w tygodniku „Sieci” jest rama konfliktu (wewnętrznego), która pojawiła się w nim 18 razy. W przypadku „Przeglądu” dominowała rama odpowiedzialności, która wystąpiła 7 razy. 2. Ramy medialne, stanowiące element medialnego dyskursu, pozwalają na śledzenie przebiegu debaty migracyjnej. 3. Stosowanie określonych ram ujawnia sympatie polityczne mediów, a także propagowane przez nie wartości. Wartością poznawczą tekstu jest obserwacja korelacji mediów i migracji w kontekście niedawnych wydarzeń na polsko- białoruskiej granicy. Artykuł stanowi zarazem ograniczony wkład w dyskusję na temat wymienionych zjawisk, będących częścią problemów globalnych.
The study conducted is a comparison of two media representations during the so-called migration crisis on the Polish-Belarusian border. The purpose of the article is to find answers to the following research questions. What media frames dominated from mid-August to November 2021 in the two weekly opinion magazines – the conservative "Sieci" ("Network") and the left-wing "Przegląd" ("Review")? Can we follow the course of the debate on the "migration crisis" and the formation of the media discourse through media frames? Does the use of specific frames reflect the ideological profile of the studied media and reveal their political sentiments? The research method used is frame analysis, which is a component of content analysis. A total of 65 journalistic texts were examined. The analysis led to the following conclusions: 1. The dominant frame in the weekly "Sieci" is the frame of conflict (internal), which appeared 18 times. In the case of "Przegląd", the dominant frame was responsibility, which occurred 7 times. 2. Media frames, as part of media discourse, make it possible to follow the migration debate. 3. The use of specific frames reveals the political sympathies of the media, as well as the values they promote. The research value of the text is the observation of the correlation of media and migration in the context of recent events on the Polish-Belarusian border. At the same time, the article makes a limited contribution to the discussion of these global problems.

The closer we get to our times, the more often school reforms take place in different countries. They are an attempt to respond to deep social changes. However, in most cases, these reforms are not veryeffective. The author gives examples of failed Polish educational reforms of the last half-century. It is noted that there was a large gap between the façade proclamations of the benefits that the announcedreforms were supposed to bring and their real effects. Therefore, the author puts forward a thesis that too often reformers play a confidence game and in fact the announced change in education means nochange in practice. Meanwhile, real, profound school reforms are essential, as society and the economy will increasingly need graduates educated to meet the needs of the 21 st century. They are supposed to be people who think critically, are creative, have high communication skills, and are focused on cooperation with others. For the preparation of such graduates to be possible, there needs to be a radical change in the concept of the school and in the way teachers work.

Opis:
One of the elements upon which e-Government is based is electronic democracy. It stands for a broad range of activities engaging citizens in state matters. In Poland, it is difficult to find examples of such activities whether in the area of e-Voting, e-Engagement, e-Controllership, or e-Consultation. This is due to many reasons, one of which may be errors committed by the legislator, and upheld by it, with respect to the conceptual framework related to the e-Government, as well as the conceptual framework used in acts of law, while another reason may be the legislative quality of some of them. The phenomenon which raises the highest concern, however, is the fact that the initiatives that are undertaken, usually at local, not central, level, arouse very little interest among citizens, who do not trust public administrative authorities providing the solutions to question. By way of illustration, the paper presents local solutions related to electronic voting, and central solutions related to public information. Due to the scarcity of solutions and their often questionable quality, it is hard to say that in Poland electronic democracy solutions are well developed and shaped.

Phytoplankton community structure was studied from 2002 to 2016 in the Vistula Lagoon (southern Baltic Sea) in the context of the 2010 shift in its population, as well as the reason for this shift and its environmental impact. This evident shift was indicated by Multidimensional Scaling at the Bray Curtis similarity level of 31%. Before 2010, the primary components of phytoplankton were Cyanobacteria (up to 98% of the biomass, October 2007) and Chlorophyta (40%, July 2002). After 2010, the contribution of Cyanobacteria considerably decreased, and the proportions of other phyla increased. The total phytoplankton biomass positively correlated with phosphorus, and Cyanobacteria biomass with silica. Evident changes were also observed in the seasonal dynamics of phytoplankton. Before 2010, the highest values of biomass occurred in autumn, and were related to high biomass of Cyanobacteria. Higher biomass has been recently reached in spring, during the dominance of Ochrophyta associated with Chlorophyta, Charophyta, and Cryptophyta. Generalised additive models showed a significant decreasing trend of the total phytoplankton biomass, Cyanobacteria, Chlorophyta, and flagellates, suggesting a decrease in eutrophication. This trend is concurrent with a considerable increase in the ratio of zooplankton to phytoplankton biomass since 2010. The increased ratio, however, did not result from elevated zooplankton biomass, but from the drop in phytoplankton biomass. Therefore, the most probable reason for the decrease in phytoplankton biomass was the simultaneous decrease in the concentration of all nutrients. The potential additional impact of filtration by a new alien bivalve Rangia cuneata G. B. Sowerby I, 1832 is also discussed.

Tekst stanowi analizę intertekstualnych relacji łączących literaturę z fotografią. W celu ich wydobycia autorka proponuje wykorzystanie pojęć „foto-grafemiczności” tekstu (rozumianej jako zespół cech wskazujących na pokrewieństwo tekstu i fotografii) oraz „foto-grafemu” (będącego ich jednostkową tekstową realizacją), inspirowanych Derridiańskimi kategoriami „gramatologicznymi”. Sposób ich funkcjonowania w tekście poetyckim zaprezentowany zostaje na przykładzie wiersza Las tropikalny Tomasza Różyckiego.
The paper is an attempt at analyzing the intertextual relations between literature and photography. In order to extract them, the notions of textual “photo-graphemicality” (understood as a number of features indicating similarities between a text and a photograph) and “photo-grapheme’ (their individual textual realization), inspired by Derridean “grammatological” categories. Their functioning in a poetic text is presented using the example of Las tropikalny by Tomasz Różycki.

W artykule dokonano analizy zależności kursu notowań cyfrowej waluty bitcoin z notowaniami cen złota w latach 2018–2022. Przeanalizowano także zależności notowań kursu BTC z indeksami akcyjnymi Stanów Zjednoczonych (S&P 500) i Polski (WIG) oraz indeksem towarowym CRB. W badaniu wykorzystano liniową korelację Pearsona. Badanie przeprowadzono dla kilku różnych okresów. Pierwszy okres obejmował lata 2018‒2022, drugi lata 2020–2022, a trzeci ostatni rok, tj. 2022. Badanie przeprowadzono również dla dwóch okresów o zwiększonej niepewności rynkowej. Pierwszy to czas załamania się rynków spowodowany wybuchem pandemii COVID-19 i dużej zmienności na rynku od 1.03.2020 do 30.04.2020. Drugi to początek wojny w Ukrainie obejmujący notowania od 24.02.2022 do 24.04.2022. Przeprowadzone badania wskazują, że kryptowaluta Bitcoin w większym stopniu koreluje z indeksami giełdowymi niż z kursem notowań cen złota. W ostatnim badanym okresie, tj. na początku wojny w Ukrainie, można było zaobserwować nawet ujemną korelację kursów notowań cyfrowej waluty Bitcoin i cen złota.
The paper analyses the relationship between the Bitcoin digital currency quotation and the gold price quotation in 2018–2022. The relationship between the BTC exchange rate quotation and the stock indices of the United States (S&P 500) and Polish (WIG) and the CRB commodity index was also analysed. The study used a linear Pearson correlation. The study was conducted for several different periods. The first period covered 2017–2022, the second period was 2020–2022, and the third – last year, i.e. 2022. The study was also conducted for two periods of increased market uncertainty. The first is the time of the collapse of the markets caused by the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic and high market volatility from March 1, 2020, to April 30, 2020. The second is the beginning of the war in Ukraine, covering quotations from February 24, 2022, to April 24, 2022. Research indicates that the Bitcoin cryptocurrency correlates to a greater extent with stock exchange indices than with the price quotation rate of gold. In the last period studied, i.e., at the beginning of the war in Ukraine, it was even possible to observe a negative correlation between the price quotations of the digital currency Bitcoin and gold prices.
