Aim/purpose – The aim of this article is to present the concept of a multicriteria model of process maturity assessment (MMPM), which allows to assess the degree of implementation of process solutions with respect to three dimensions: short-term, long-term and systemic. Design/methodology/approach – The characteristics of the model presented in the article was preceded by a review of the literature and the analysis of secondary research related to the assessment of the degree of implementation of elements of the process approach in management. Findings – As a result of the review of the literature and the analysis of secondary re-search, a thesis was formulated that quantitative research using the existing methodolo-gies for identifying the implementation of a process approach in management is insuffi-cient in the precise assessment of the organization’s process maturity. This means that they should be extended to include qualitative research. The solution to this problem may be the use of a multidimensional model of process maturity assessment of the organization. Research implications/limitations – The application of MMPM makes it possible to assess the degree of implementation of the process approach elements using the opinion poll method. This means that the results may be subject to random or non-random errors, depending on the selection technique of the research sample. At this point, it should also be emphasized that in order to provide a precision assessment of process maturity using the MMPM, the questions in the questionnaire should be adapted to the specifics of the area under examination. Originality/value/contribution – The scope of this article fills in the research gap that exists in terms of assessing the process maturity of the organization in the long run, understood as defining the direction of development, stagnation or atrophy of implementation of process solutions in the organization. The concept of the MMPM presented in the article makes it possible to assess process maturity in three dimensions: short-term, long-term and system-based. In addition, the structure of the model enables the reconfiguration of the research questionnaire with questions of a self-reinforcing character by the respondent to questions, enabling the assessment of the level of maturity on the basis of symptoms.

This paper discusses various aspects that should be considered when defining and executing extraction process-related information from the source data (ERP system) to an event log. This includes trace and event selection, as well as important project decisions that should be made beforehand. The basic idea of a proposed approach is demonstrated by performing a case study which is related to a standard sales order processing, that is, business process from sales quotation through sales order and delivery to invoicing. For this processes we showed the characteristics of the event logs, and the models we can discover.

W artykule opisano pięć metod identyfikacji procesów z różnego punktu widzenia. Postulowano, aby system identyfikacji procesów integrował sferę zarządzania i wykonania inwestycji, gdyż brak procesów zarządzania w kosztorysowaniu może być powodem dużych strat finansowych. Zasugerowano kierunek współpracy uczelni z przedsiębiorcami. Tematem współpracy może być opracowanie modelowego systemu identyfikacji procesów dla budownictwa.
This article describes five methods of identifying processes from various points of view. It is proposed that a system for identification of processes should integrate the domains of management and execution of projects, since the absence of management processes in cost calculation may lead to large financial losses. A suggestion is made as to a direction for cooperation between firms and academic institutions. Cooperation may relate to the development of a model system of process identification for the construction industry.

Process mining techniques allow for the analysis of the real process flow. This flow might be disturbed for many reasons, including software failures. It is also possible for failure occurrence to be the consequence of the faulty process execution. A method for measuring the harmfulness of the software failure regarding business processes executed by the user would be a valuable asset for quality and reliability improvement. In this paper, we take the first step towards developing this method by providing a tool for enhancing XES event logs with failure data. We begin with an introduction to this topic and background analysis in the field of failure classification and process mining techniques supporting failure analysis. Then we present our method for merging operational and failure data. By carrying out a case study based on real data, we evaluate our tool and present the aim of our future work.

In the literature on the subject, one can notice quite a lot of freedom in the approach to formulating and understanding of terms relating to process orientation, process approach and managing processes and process management. In recent years, there has been a noticeable increase in interest in the study of process management not only of organizations, but also of individual activities such as projects. Managers are looking for indicators and metrics to measure the effectiveness and efficiency of processes in their activities. The purpose of the article is to try to identify differences and similarities and to systematize terminology related to process management in organizations. The study uses literature research based on an exploration of the Web of Science and Scopus databases, with the analysis limited to scientific publications only, and the selection of available materials excluded other materials, such as communications, reviews or other documents, from the analysis. The article is of a review and conceptual nature. The collected research results were subjected to comparative analysis, logical analysis and critical analysis. The research and analysis results presented in the article are an attempt to organize terminology that can be used in further scientific research.

This note reviews how the contemporary concept of the Poisson process (sometimes called the Poisson random measure or Poisson point process) evolved through out the time up to recent times. That is from F. Lundberg and W. Feller up to A. Renyi (1967) paper and finally, a construction of Poisson processes by binomial (or Bernoulli) processes, which can be found in J.E. Moyal (1962), J. Mecke (1967) and J.F. Kingman (1967) papers. Also in C. Ryll-Nardzewski (1953) this construction was used in the proof of Theorem for homogeneous Poisson processes.
Artykuł jest poświęcony historii współczesnej koncepcji procesu Poissona (czasami nazywanej losową miarą Poissona). Zaczynamy od początków, które są zawarte w pracach F. Lundberga i W. Fellera aż do R´enyi (1967) i wreszcie, konstrukcji procesów Poissona przez procesy dwumianowe (lub Bernoulli’ego), które można znaleźć w pracach Moyala (1962), Meckego (1967) i Kingmana (1967). Również u Ryll-Nardzewskiego (1954) ta konstrukcja została wykorzystana do dowodu twierdzenia o jednorodnych procesach Poissona.

Eksploracja procesów jest relatywnie młodą dziedziną badań z pogranicza kilku nauk, między innymi: inteligencji obliczeniowej, eksploracji danych oraz modelowania i analizy procesów. W artykule zaprezentowano możliwości wsparcia zarządzania procesami w przedsiębiorstwie wybranymi technikami eksploracji procesów. Scharakteryzowano istotę podejścia procesowego oraz cykl zarządzania procesami w organizacji. Przedstawiono przykłady eksploracji wybranego procesu w programie ProM, z uwzględnieniem poszczególnych faz cyklu BPM.
Process mining is a relatively young field of research at the frontier of several disciplines, including: computational intelligence, data mining, and process modeling and analysis. The article presents the possibilities of supporting process management in an enterprise by selected process mining techniques. The essence of the process approach and process management cycle in an organi¬zation were presented. Analysis of selected process in ProM is presented, taking into account individual phases of the BPM cycle.

The subject of this paper are selected issues connected with modelling, prognosis and control of the process of operation and maintenance of a certain category of technical objects. The research object is a system of transport means operation. Assumptions for building a model of the operation process state changes of objects used in a complex system of operation and maintenance have been presented. The operation process model was built on the basis of an analysis of the space of states and events concerning technical objects, which are used in the analysed real transportation system. Source data necessary to make assumptions for the model development and its initial verification, has been obtained by means of the passive experiment method from a real system of transport means operation. An example of Markov decision process use for modelling and analysis of a public city transportation system operation process has been presented. Determination of values of indices characterizing the analysed process has been carried out basing on computer simulation of Markov decision process, being a mathematical model of technical objects operation process. A computing model has illustrated the entire study. Values of the model parameters have been estimated basing on the results of preliminary tests conducted in a real system of transport means operation. The model presented in this work has been built in such a way that it can be used for a wide category of problems connected with technical objects operation.

The purpose of this article is to present a concept of the innovation process maturity that describes actions leading to the implementation of the business process orientation in innovation management, while taking into account efficiency improvement of innovation process. It was assumed that organization can be in different phase of implementation of business process orientation (BPO). That is why presented concept was based on the following foundations: usability, providing the possibility of widespread use in business practice and a high level of precision to clarify various determinants of the innovation process maturity. The proposed concept consists of four actions performed in continuous cycles. Those actions are a basis to distinguish the following maturity levels: lack of maturity, moderate, formed and full maturity of the innovation process. Each of the achieved levels of maturity of the innovation process is characterized by different productivity, which determines the efficiency of the innovation system of the organization.

The paper attempts to demonstrate the role and importance of process modeling and reengineering logistics processes in the selected public administration organization. Warunkiem właściwego miejsca we współczesnej gospodarce oraz zwiększenia poziomu bezpieczeństwa funkcjonowania na konkurencyjnym rynku jest wprowadzanie w organizacjach nowych rozwiązań systemowych. Jednym z takich rozwiązań jest podejście procesowe do zarządzania, oparte nie na funkcjach, lecz na optymalizacji działań w przekroju procesowym. W literaturze przedmiotu spotkać można wiele publikacji z zakresu ubezpieczeń prezentujących tradycyjne, historycznie ugruntowane podejście do tej problematyki. Brakuje natomiast publikacji dotyczących zarządzania procesowego w zakładach ubezpieczeń. Nieliczni autorzy poruszający tę problematykę skupiają swoją uwagę na procesowej dekompozycji działalności ubezpieczeniowej, stanowiącej jedynie punkt wyjścia do zarządzania procesowego. Celem opracowania jest przedstawienie spotykanego w literaturze fachowej oraz w praktyce podejścia do problematyki zarządzania procesowego w zakładach ubezpieczeń funkcjonujących na krajowym rynku ubezpieczeniowym.
The condition of the right place in the modern economy and increasing the level of security on the competitive market is the introduction of new system solutions in organizations. One of such solutions is a process approach to management, based not on functions, but on the optimization of activities in the process cross-section. In the literature on the subject one can find a number of publications in the field of insurance presenting a traditional, historically well-grounded approach to this issue. There are no publications on process management in insurance companies. Few authors addressing this issue focus their attention on the process of decomposing insurance activities, which is only a starting point for process management. The aim of the study is to present the approaches to the issues of process management in insurance companies operating on the domestic insurance market, encountered in the professional literature and in practice.

This article describes the concept of process management as it relates to firms in the construction industry. It presents identified sets of processes taking place within both design and construction firms, and a method for visualization of such processes. Methodology is also proposed for the assessment of processes through the lens of innovative actions.

Process modelling is a very important stage in a Business Process Management cycle enabling process analysis and its redesign. Many sources of information for process modelling purposes exist. It may be an analysis of documentation related directly or indirectly to the process being analysed, observations or participation in the process. Nowadays, for this purpose, it is increasingly proposed to use the event logs from organization’s IT systems. Event logs could be analysed with process mining techniques to create process models expressed by various notations (i.e. Petri Nets, BPMN, EPC). Process mining enables also conformance checking and enhancement analysis of the processes. In the paper issues related to process modelling and process mining are briefly discussed. A case study, an example of delivery process modelling with process mining technique is presented.

The purpose of this study is to investigate two related spatial branchingmodels with the unbounded branching intensity. The objective is to describe theasymptotic behaviour of the extremal particle.

The reliability function defined by a failure rate which is a stochastic process with nonnegative and right continuous trajectories is presented in this paper. The reliability function with an at most countable state space semi-Markov failure rate process is investigated. A theorem concerning of equations for a conditional reliability function with a semi-Markov process as a failure rate is presented in this paper. The solutions of the proper renewal equations allow getting the reliability functions for the finite space semi-Markov random walk, for the Poisson process and for the Furry-Yule process as a failure rate.

The stochastic processes theory provides concepts and theorems that allow building probabilistic models concerning accidents. So called counting process can be applied for modelling the number of the road, sea and railway accidents in the given time intervals. A crucial role in construction of the models plays a Poisson process and its generalizations. The new theoretical results regarding compound Poisson process are presented in the paper. A nonhomogeneous Poisson process and the corresponding nonhomogeneous compound Poisson process are applied for modelling the road accidents number and number of injured and killed people in the Polish road. To estimate model parameters were used data coming from the annual reports of the Polish police [9, 10]. Constructed models allowed anticipating number of accidents at any time interval with a length of h and the accident consequences. We obtained the expected value of fatalities or injured and the corresponding standard deviation in the given time interval. The statistical distribution of fatalities number in a single accident and statistical distribution of injured people number and also probability distribution of fatalities or injured number in a single accident are computed. It seems that the presented examples explain basic concepts and results discussed in the paper.

Jednym z narzędzi optymalizacji działań organizacyjnych stała się robotyzacja powtarzalnych zadań, mająca na celu eliminację ludzkich błędów oraz redukcję kosztów. Robotyzacja procesów biurowych (RPA) obejmuje zestaw nowoczesnych technologii, które zastępują pracę ludzką przy realizacji prostych, powtarzalnych czynności, takich jak kopiowanie danych, generowanie raportów czy odpowiedzi na wystandaryzowane pytania. Na podstawie przeglądu literatury w artykule przedstawiono miejsce robotyzacji procesów na tle rozwoju teorii zarządzania procesowego oraz aktualne efekty implementacji tych rozwiązań. Robotyzacja procesów z jednej strony jest narzędziem ich optymalizacji, a z drugiej pogłębia procesową orientację przedsiębiorstw. Walory teoretyczne robotyzacji wskazują na jej duży potencjał optymalizacji, co skłoniło do postawienia hipotezy badawczej, iż RPA podnosi wartość zrobotyzowanych procesów. Przedstawiona teza znalazła potwierdzenie w raportach badawczych, co jednocześnie skłania do pogłębionych badań mogących być podstawą szerszej oceny efektywności tych rozwiązań.
One of the tools for optimizing organizational activities is the robotic process automation (RPA) which automates repetitive, manual tasks in order to eliminate human errors and reduce costs. Based on a literature scoping review, the article presents the place of RPA in the development of process management theory as well as economic effects of its implementations. The theoretical values of robotization indicate its high potential for optimization, which prompted the research hypothesis that RPA improves effectiveness of robotized processes. In addition, development of information technologies, especially in the field of cognitive systems, define the ever wider possibilities of algorithmization of office processes, thus increasing the potential of their robotization. The presented thesis has been confirmed in researched documents, which at the same time prompts in-depth research that may be the basis for a wider evaluation of these solutions.

In this paper, we introduce an agent-based representation of games, in order to propose a compact representation for multi-party games in game theory. Our method is inspired by concepts in process theory and process algebra. In addition, we introduce an algorithm whose input is a game in the form of process algebra (proposed in this paper) and as an output, the algorithm finds the Nash equilibrium of the game in linear space complexity.

Ważność poszczególnych kryteriów wyznaczono, korzystając z metody AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process). Badania przeprowadzono wśród ekspertów z międzynarodowego przedsiębiorstwa branży automatyki przemysłowej.
The aim of the study was to identify a set of sustainable suppliers criteria and ranking them in order of decreasing importance in the supplier assessment. The validity of each criterion was determined using the method of AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process). The study was conducted among experts from the international industrial automation company.

Abstract Meeting quality characteristics of products and processes is an important issue for customer satisfaction and business competitiveness. It is necessary to integrate new techniques and tools that improve and complement traditional process variables analysis. This paper proposes a new methodological approach to analyze process quality control variables using Fuzzy Cognitive Maps. Application of the methodology in the production process of carbonated beverages allowed identifying process variables with the greatest influence on finished product quality. The process variables with the greatest impact on carbon dioxide content in the beverage were the beverage temperature in the filler, the carbo-cooler pressure, and the filler pressure.
