Published in 1866, “Łužiski serbski słownik” compiled by Křesćan Bohuwěr Pful was completed as a result of cultural and national revival of Slavic Lausatians and constitutes the first reliable work on the lexis of the Upper Sorbian language. A comparison of the lexical corpus constituting this dictionary with the language used in the press of the time (the material has been excerpted from two year’s issues of the weekly ”Tydźenska Nowina” (Weekly messages) published in 1851 and 1853) seems to be sufficient enough to evaluate the lexis included in the Pful’s dictionary and to provide an answer to what extent this lexicon recorded the vocabulary of the first decades of the national revival. A juxtaposition of the material demonstrates that the Pful dictionary largely reflects the development of the Upper Sorbian language in the latter half of the nineteenth century, for the material encompasses not only the vocabulary of the past centuries but also contemporary loans and borrowings from the Czech language, less frequently from Polish or, generally Slavic loans, to be found in the press. Pful also records a number of older Germanisms. Interestingly enough, the dictionary does not include words that are used internationally though they are quite frequent in the issues of ”Tydźenska Nowina”. Pful replaces them with his propositions of either borrowings from the Czech language or neologisms of his own, often modeled after their Czech counterparts. The dictionary also lacks numerous compounds, collocations and the words that had been apparently coined by the editors of the weekly (oftentimes loan translations from German, e.g. płododružiny (Fruchtarten)). The Pful’s dictionary is also characterized by a certain discernible excess of lexical propositions of the author himself as compared to the actual material excerpted from the publication. The above should be rather treated as an expression of the author’s deliberate attempt to enliven and enrich the Upper Sorbian lexis at the time of the awakening of Sorbian consciousness.

The Łužiski serbski slownik by Křesćan Bohuwěr Pful originated as a result of the Sorbian national revival. As a revival dictionary, it presents a rich collection of words in which borrowings from other Slavic languages abound, accompanied by the dictionary author’s vocabulary proposals. Among other word forms, Pful suggested 95 verbs which reflect very diversified lexical resources with impressive word formations. Various derivatives have been identified with respect to the basis upon which they were formed, including adjectival, noun, verb, adverbial, pronoun and numeral as well as compound verbs. Some of the verb formations suggested by Pful have been incorporated into the lexical resources of Upper Sorbian.

Przedstawiono ogólne przyczyny i warunki powstawania agencji regulacyjnych telekomunikacji, wynikające z dynamicznego rozwoju tej dziedziny zarówno pod względem techniki, jak i zastosowań. General reasons and conditions for world-wide establishment of telecommunications regulatory agencies, resulting from dynamic development of communications technology and applications are analysed. Various models of agencies are described and selected examples of best known and experienced agencies are presented. A survey of missions, areas of activities, characteristic features as well as positions in country's administration structures is given.

W ostatnich latach w wielu krajach na świecie są podejmowane intensywne prace w zakresie rozwijania systemów inteligentnego transportu, tj. projektowania oraz budowy nowoczesnych informatycznych i telekomunikacyjnych rozwiązań w dziedzinie transportu. Powoduje to konieczność prowadzenia prac normalizacyjnych, dotyczących rozwiązań technicznych stosowanych w tej dziedzinie. W artykule przedstawiono przesłanki działań normalizacyjnych oraz omówiono instytucje prowadzące takie działania. Wskazano dotychczas opracowane normy oraz procedury tworzenia norm. Scharakteryzowano też w skrócie kilka narodowych struktur, zajmujących się problematyką inteligentnego transportu.
During past years intensified growth of interest on the information technology and telecommunications applications in transport is observed. It causes a need for standardization works respecting technical solutions applied in this area. In the paper premises of such a works are presented, standardization institutions are characterized and lists of standards are included. Procedures of standardization processes are shortly described. Even some national organizations engaged with intelligent transport problems are characterized.

The paper deals with the problem of continuous-time (CT) identification of parameters in transfer functions for low-order linear systems, based on recorded discrete-time (DT) data. Algorithms for direct estimation of CT parameters are developed from rules for transformation of a CT transferfunction controlled via a zero-order sampling-and-hold unit into a DT representation.Two schemes are derived and tested: the first is based on the Goodwin transformation and the other is derived from the modified Tustin transformation. Both the approaches result in relations which can be used for direct estimationof CT parameters in a model of the investigated system. The numerical schemes contain some expressions that are reminiscent of DT differences and consequently they may magnify disturbances. Therefore the results of extensively testing both the schemes including different types of disturbances, measurement noise, slow varying drifts, measurement resolution errors together with changes in the sampling time are presented. A model of a pneumatic servomechanism system was used as a test plant.

Introduction. An old conjecture of P. Erdős repeated many times with a prize offer states that the counting function A(n) of a $B_r$-sequence A satisfies $lim inf_{n→ ∞} (A(n)/(n^{1/r}))=0$. The conjecture was proved for r=2 by P. Erdős himself (see [5]) and in the cases r=4 and r=6 by J. C. M. Nash in [4] and by Xing-De Jia in [2] respectively. A very interesting proof of the conjecture in the case of all even r=2k by Xing-De Jia is to appear in the Journal of Number Theory [3]. Here we present a different, very short proof of Erdős' hypothesis for all even r=2k which we developped independently of Jia's version.

The class Anthozoa is represented by Tabulata and Heliolitida in Paleozoic series of the Verkhoyansk Mountains (Verkhoyanie). Representatives of all the seven tabulate orders and of the heliolitid orders (Heliolitida, Proporida) moved into this area from the Siberian platform in the late Ordovician. At the end of the Ordovician and the beginning of the Silurian the orders Lichenariida, Sarcinulida, Tetradiida and Proporida died out in Verkhoyanie. The families Halysitidae, Favositidae, Pachyporidae experienced a burst of speciation in the early Silurian. The orders Halysitida and Heliolitida became extinct by the early Upper Silurian. With the Gedinnian-Siegenian transgression Favositidae, Pachyporidae, Alveolitidae, Coenitidae, Syringoporidae migrated from the Arctic basin into the Verkhoyansk sea. Known from the Givetian and Frasnian are only numerous representatives of Pachyporidae, Alveolitidae, Coenitidae and Syringoporidae. Corals Syringoporida and Auloporida disappeared by the beginning of Viséan time and those of the order Favositida in the Early Permian.

Global positioning systems makes possible to build a new telematic systems, enabling various applications and services in many branches of economy. A special area of such applications are various transport and transport related tasks. Among them, of a high importance are applications applied to mobile objects, for example, to all kinds of vehicles, called mobile telematic services. The paper presents features of such a services, with a special emphasis of the services being foreseen in Galileo satellite positioning system. Even conditions concerning such a service constructions are discussed, having in mind mainly necessity of complementary communications between a positioned object and related surrounding, including co-users of the movement area infrastructure as well as broader environment.

Opis:
An iterative inversion algorithm for a class of square matrices is derived and tested. The inverted matrix can be defined over both real and complex fields. This algorithm is based only on the operations of addition and multiplication. The numerics of the algorithm can cope with a short number representation and therefore can be very useful in the case of processors with limited possibilities, like different neuro-computers and accelerator cards. The quality of inversion can be traced and tested. The algorithm can be used in the case of singular matrices, and then it automatically produces a result that contains the inverse of this part of the processed matrix which can be inverted. An example of the inversion of a six-order square matrix is presented and discussed.

Opis:
Estimation of a parametric, discrete-time model for a SISO dynamic plant, derived for minimisation of a performance index determined as a sum of squared prediction errors within some time horizon is considered. A formula for a Long-Horizon Least-Squares (LHLS) off-line solution as well as a theorem for an LHLS recursive on-line scheme are derived. The LHLS scheme reveals some features of Least-Squares (LS) estimation and Instrumental-Variable (IV) estimation. An algorithm for the on-line LHLS scheme is presented and compared with LS and IV estimation schemes for a linear, second-order system. The fast convergence of the derived LHLS on-line scheme is demonstrated in the case of detecting changes in parameters of a non-stationary system.

Wykazano celowość uzupełnienia działań reformatorskich przez szerszą implementację narzędzi i metod teleinformatycznych.
World's processes of informatization an globalization development, as a phenomena strongly conditioned by telecommunications development are characterized. The situation in this area in Poland was presented along with postulating of a role of the state as a stimulating and regulating factor. The big social and economical reforms performed in Poland are discussed from the point of view of Information Society perspectives. A proposal of the completion of reforming processes by broader implementation of IT tools was formulated.

The paper presents a novel approach to approximation of a linear transfer function model, based on dynamic properties represented by a frequency response, e.g., determined as a result of discrete-time identification. The approximation is derived for minimization of a non-quadratic performance index. This index can be determined as an exponent or absolute norm of an error. Two algorithms for determination of the approximation coefficients are considered, a batch processing one and a recursive scheme, based on the well-known on-line identification algorithm. The proposed approach is not sensitive to local outliers present in the original frequency response. Application of the approach and its features are presented on examples of two simple dynamic systems.

Opis:
A modification of digital controller algorithms, based on the introduction of a virtual reference value, which never exceeds active constraints in the actuator output is presented and investigated for some algorithms used in single-loop control systems. This idea, derived from virtual modification of a control error, can be used in digital control systems subjected to both magnitude and rate constraints. The modification is introduced in the form of on-line adaptation to the control task. Hence the design of optimal (in a specified sense) digital controller parameters can be separated from actuator constraints. The adaptation of the control algorithm (to actuator constraints) is performed by the transformation of the control error and is equivalent to the introduction of a new, virtual reference value for the control system. An application of this approach is presented through examples of three digital control algorithms: the PID algorithm, the dead-beat controller and the state space controller. In all cases, clear advantages of transients are observed, which yields some general conclusions to the problem of processing actuator constraints in control.

The above-presented paper by K.F.B. Hempel, who himself is well-known conservator and highly appreciated expert in the fie ld , deals with decay of marbles and terracotta and with the methods of their conservation. The goal the author of the comment has set before him consisted in dilating of some problems thus making them more intellegible for readers being not familiar with the problems discussed. The author broadens and makes comments of his own on such problems as the mechanism of patina forming in marble and its decay caused by the action of su lphuric oxides, temperature variations and water so luble salts; destructive e ffe c t of the foreign matter deposits on marble surfaces; application o f glues for joining the marble pieces; methods of supplementing the decrements; impregnating and structural reinforcing o f marbles apd terracotta, and, finally, the me thods applied in preparing the moulds for art casting o f replicas. In addition, the comment discusses the workability and usability of methods listed by F.B.K. Hempel under conditions of the Polish conservators’ practice.

Wśród różnych teorii odbierania wrażeń zapachowych teoria opierająca się o wibracyjną energię cząsteczek substancji zapachowych należy do najciekawszych. Spowodowane jest to przede wszystkim faktem, że pozostaje ona w doskonałej zgodności ze współczesnym poziomem wiedzy o fizycznych i chemicznych procesach zachodzących na poziomie molekularnym błony komórkowej nabłonka węchowego. Przedstawiono przegląd podstawowych zasad tej teorii i jej zastosowań do wyjaśnienia niektórych zjawisk dotyczących wrażeń zapachowych. Przedyskutowano stopień, w jakim teoria wibracyjna posuwa naprzód wiedzę o zależności pomiędzy budową chemiczną cząsteczek substancji zapachowych a wrażeniami węchowymi, jakie one wywołują. Wskazano również ograniczenia w posługiwaniu się tą teorią oraz możliwe kierunki ich przezwyciężenia.

Purpose: This paper aims to investigate the possibilities of using 3D printing by fused deposition modelling (FDM) technology for developing micro-fluidic devices by printing a benchmark test part. A low-cost desktop printer is evaluated to compare the minimum possible diameter size, and accuracy in the microchannel body. Design/methodology/approach: The parts were designed using SolidWorks 2016 CAD software and printed using a low-cost desktop FDM printer and Polylactic acid (PLA) filament. Findings: Desktop 3D printers are capable of printing open microchannels with minimum dimensions of 300 μm width and 200 μm depth. Research limitations/implications: Future works should focus on developing new materials and optimizing the process parameters of the FDM technique and evaluating other 3D printing technologies and different printers. Originality/value: The paper shows the possibility of desktop 3D printers in printing microfluidic devices and provides a design of a benchmark part for testing and evaluating printing resolution and accuracy.

Let $G$ be a graph and $a$, $b$ and $k$ be nonnegative integers with $ 1 \le a \le b $. A graph $G$ is defined as all fractional $(a, b, k)$-critical if after deleting any $k$ vertices of $G$, the remaining graph has all fractional $[a, b]$-factors. In this paper, we prove that if \( \kappa(G) \ge \text{max} \{ \tfrac{(b+1)^2+2k}{2}, \tfrac{(b+1)^2 \alpha(G)+4ak}{4a} \} \), then $G$ is all fractional $(a, b, k)$-critical. If $k = 0$, we improve the result given in [Filomat 29 (2015) 757-761]. Moreover, we show that this result is best possible in some sense.

Praca zawiera zestawienie współczesnych technik służących do pomiarów zapachu jak również dopuszczalnych poziomów stężeń substancji uciążliwych zapachowo występujących we wnętrzach budynków. Scharakteryzowano lotne związki organiczne pochodzenia mikrobiologicznego, odpowiedzialne za różnego rodzaju zapachy, jak również techniki analityczne służące do ich chemicznej charakterystyki. Szczególną uwagę poświęcono elektronicznym nosom, będącym coraz powszechniejszymi, często przenośnymi, urządzeniami służącymi do monitorowania stężenia odorantów zapewniającymi analizę w czasie rzeczywistym.
The work summarizes contemporary techniques for odour measurements as well as permissible levels of concentrations of odorous substances occurring in the interiors of buildings. Microbial volatile organic compounds which are responsible for various smells have been characterized. The most suitable techniques for sampling and MVOC chemical characterization in indoor environments were reviewed. The olfactometric techniques are discussed and the strong and weak points of odour assessment through human detection are highlighted. Particular attention was paid to electronic noses, which are increasingly common, often portable, devices for monitoring the concentration of odorants providing real-time analysis.

The present study is aimed at investigating the properties of Cassava starch for the production of adhesives as a career opportunity in chemistry education. Method of starch extraction, characterization and adhesive production for quality assessment was performed. The results showed that adhesives produced with sodium hydroxide as a gelatinization enhancer has a maximum drying time of 8.60 minutes and had a stronger bond. The work concludes that the adhesive produced is of good quality and can lead to re-inventing chemistry education as a career opportunity. However, the Cassava adhesive met the basic requirement for adhesive use and application. At the end recommendations were made, among others increase employment opportunities, also diversify the economic base of farmers and there is need for reorientation and attitudinal change towards entrepreneurial job.

Opis:
An approach to estimation of a parametric discrete-time model of a process in the case of some a priori knowledge of the investigated process properties is presented. The knowledge of plant properties is introduced in the form of linear bounds, which can be determined for the coefficient vector of the parametric model studied. The approach yields special biased estimation of model coefficients that preserves demanded properties. A formula for estimation of the model coefficients is derived and combined with a recursive scheme determined for minimization of the sum of absolute model errors. The estimation problem of a model with known static gains of inputs is discussed and proper formulas are derived. This approach can overcome the non-identifiability problem which has been observed during estimation based on measurements recorded in industrial closed-loop control systems. The application of the proposed approach to estimation of a model for an industrial plant (a water injector into the steam flow in a power plant) is presented and discussed.

Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) is a shrub of the family Lamiaceae, native to the Mediterranean region. The material used for herbal purposes includes lavender flowers (Lavandula flores) containing essential oil (3%), anthocyanins, phytosterols, sugars, minerals, and tannins. The qualitative and quantitative composition of the essential oil of lavender is variable and depends on genotype, growing location, climatic conditions, propagation, and morphological features. The essential oil contains over 300 chemical compounds. The dominant components are linalool, linalyl acetate, terpinen-4-ol, acetate lavandulol, ocimene, and cineole. Lavender essential oil has good antioxidant and antimicrobial activities and a significant positive effect on the digestive and nervous systems. Lavender extract prevents dementia and may inhibit the growth of cancer cells, while lavender hydrolate is recommended for the treatment of skin problems and burns.
Lawenda wąskolistna (Lavandula angustifolia) to krzewiasta roślina z rodziny jasnotowatych (Lamiaceae), pochodząca z terenów basenu Morza Śródziemnego. Surowcem zielarskim są kwiaty lawendy (Lavandula flores), zawierające olejek eteryczny (do 3%), antocyjany, fitosterole, cukry, związki mineralne i garbniki. Skład jakościowy i ilościowy olejku eterycznego z lawendy jest zmienny i zależy od genotypu, miejsca uprawy, warunków klimatycznych, sposobu rozmnażania i cech morfologicznych. W olejku eterycznym wstępuje ponad 300 związków chemicznych, składnikami dominującymi są linalol, octan linalilu, terpinen-4-ol, octan lawandulolu, ocymen oraz cyneol. Olejek eteryczny charakteryzuje dobra aktywność przeciwdrobnoustrojowa i antyoksydacyjna oraz wyraźny pozytywny wpływ na układ trawienny i nerwowy. Ekstrakt z lawendy przeciwdziałała otępieniu oraz może wpływać hamująco na rozwój komórek rakowych, zaś hydrolat lawendowy zalecany jest w leczeniu problemów skórnych i poparzeń.

The analysis covers, inter alia, the nature of the prosecutor’s decision on the use of evidencein criminal proceedings as well as the issue of meaning of expression “an offence prosecuted ex officio or a fiscal offence other than the offence, against which the control was directed” in the context of its constitutionality and the possibility of its pro-constitutional interpretation.

Opis:
Knowledge of future river flow information is fundamental for development and management of a river system. In this study, Waterval River flow was forecasted by SARIMA model using GRETL statistical software. Mean monthly flows from 1960 to 2016 were used for modelling and forecasting. Different unit root and Mann–Kendall trend analysis proved the stationarity of the observed flow time series. Based on seasonally differenced correlogram characteristics, different SARIMA models were evaluated; their parameters were optimized, and diagnostic check up of forecasts was made using white noise and heteroscedasticity tests. Finally, based on minimum Akaike Information (AI) and Hannan–Quinn (HQ) criteria, SARIMA (3, 0, 2) x (3, 1, 3)12 model was selected for Waterval River flow forecasting. Comparison of forecast performance of SARIMA models with that of computational intelligent forecasting techniques was recommended for future study.
Znajomość przyszłego przepływu wody w rzece jest istotna dla rozwoju i zarządzania w systemie rzecznym. W badaniach prezentowanych w niniejszym artykule prognozowano przepływ w rzece Waterval w Republice Południowej Afryki, używając modelu SARIMA i programu statystycznego GRETL. Do modelowania i budowania prognoz wykorzystano średnie miesięczne przepływy z lat 1960–2016. Różne pierwiastki jednostkowe i analiza trendu Manna–Kendalla dowiodły stacjonarności obserwowanych szeregów czasowych przepływu. Na podstawie sezonowo zróżnicowanych charakterystyk korelogramu oceniono różne modele SARIMA zoptymalizowano ich parametry i wykonano diagnostyczne sprawdzenie prognoz za pomocą białego szumu i testów heteroscedastyczności. Na podstawie minimum AI i kryteriów Hannana–Quinna (HQ), wybrano model SARIMA (3, 0, 2) x (3, 1, 3)12 do prognozowania przepływu w rzece Waterval. W dalszych badaniach proponuje się porównanie prognozowania za pomocą modeli SARIMA i technik komputerowych.

Authors focused on the issue, what is estimating value of information - they presented measures as well as valuating methods. They pointed out importance of this matter in today world that is ruling by the economy based on the knowledge.

Spośród wielu czynników mających wpływ na ogromny rozwój badań nad substancjami odpowiedzialnymi za zapach i smakowitość wymienić należy 2 główne: pierwszy z nich to ogromny rozwój metod instrumentalnych w analityce chemicznej, dokonany w ostatniej dekadzie; drugi to rosnące ciągle zapotrzebowanie na substancje aromatyzujące, które mają za zadanie podnieść jakość i poprawić akceptację przez konsumenta nowych produktów żywnościowych. W badaniach nad substancjami odpowiedzialnymi za zapach i smakowitość wyróżnić można następujące podstawowe problemy: a) przygotowanie próbek w sposób nie wywołujący zmian w substancjach zapachowych ani artefaktów, b) rozdział substancji lotnych i ich chemiczna identyfikacja, c) określenie i identyfikacja zapachu rozdzielonych substancji lotnych, d) określenie zależności pomiędzy stężeniem tych substancji a intensywnością i jakością zapachu, e) określ e nie stopnia pożądalności zapachów. Omówiono kolejno wymienione problemy i podkreślono, że jedynie wymienione ad. a i b można rozwiązać stosując wyłącznie metody instrumentalne. Do rozwiązania całości zagadnienia niezbędne są równoległe badania metodami sensorycznymi, które dopiero od niedawna prowadzone s ą systematycznie przez ośrodki pracujące nad substancjami zapachowymi. Brak jednoznacznej teorii odbierania wrażeń węchowych oraz teoretycznych podstaw zależności pomiędzy bodźcem a wrażeniem utrudnia postęp wiedzy w tej dziedzinie.

The central party organs dealt with all issues of the internal and foreign policy of the republic, led the national economy, public organizations, and personnel policy. Therefore, the documents of the ‘special folders’ of the Central Committee of the Communist Party (b) Kazakhstan reflect various spheres of the life of the republic, which for a long time were not available to researchers due to the highest secrecy stamp imposed. The article deals with one of such areas of the problem – the settlement of Kazakh repatriates and representatives of other nationalities from China, who left during the civil war, collectivization, famine and repressions, who, unable to withstand the attitude of local residents and the persecution of the authorities of the country, republic or regions to which they moved, returned back to Kazakhstan. The ways of solving problems related to their settlement in Soviet farms, organization of trade with them, their cultural services, medical care, their resettlement, maintenance and veterinary services for their livestock are analyzed. Authors describes the reasons and measures to prevent the mass return of "nomads" back to China, despite all the decisions taken, the measures taken by the leadership of the republic in connection with the gaps made by some representatives of local authorities during their placement.

Hatha-yoga w szkolnictwie wyższym Niniejszy artykuł porusza kwestię adaptacji praktyki hatha-yogi do systemu szkolnictwa wyższego. Autor opisuje problemy, jakie występują przy włączaniu jogi do programów nauczania uczelni wyższych w odniesieniu do USA i Polski. Ciało zostało prawie wyłączone z programów nauczania. Istnieje jednak duża różnica między teorią a praktyką, a ciało może być aktywnym podmiotem (aktorem) w uczeniu się i postrzeganiu rzeczywistości. Może być używane do nauczania filozofii, psychologii, socjologii i zarządzania oraz innych kursów. Studenci mogą uzyskać ucieleśnioną wiedzę, a nie tylko możliwość zdobycia intelektualnej wiedzy pochodzącej z umysłu. Jestem socjologiem i opisuję swoje doświadczenia z włączaniem jogi w nauczanie przedmiotów socjologicznych i psychologicznych na polskim uniwersytecie. Wyniki autoraportów studentów pokazują, że poprzez praktykę hatha-jogi studenci mogli dostrzec związek ciała i umysłu w zakresie wytwarzania emocji, co może być ważne w nauczaniu technik redukcji stresu, socjologii emocji, psychologii emocji, filozofii ciała, zarządzania, coachingu lub innych przedmiotów, w których emocje i ciało są ważnymi czynnikami aktywności.
This paper deals with the problem of adaptation of hatha-yoga practice to the system of higher education. There are some problems with including yoga into the curricula of higher education institutions, and these are described with respect mainly to the USA and Polish context. The body has been almost excluded from programs of teaching. There is a large gap between the theory and practice. However, the body could be an active subject (actant) in learning and perceiving the reality. It could be used to teach philosophy, psychology, sociology and management, and other courses. Students could achieve embodied knowledge, and not only the opportunity of gaining an intellectual knowledge coming from and through the mind. I am a sociologist and I describe my experiences with including yoga in teaching sociological and psychological subjects in a Polish University. The results from auto-reports of students show that by hatha-yoga practice students could see the connection between the body and mind concerning the production of emotions, which could be important in teaching of techniques of stress reduction, sociology of emotions, psychology of emotions, philosophy of body, management, coaching or other subjects where emotions and the body are important factors of activity.

W latach 2016-2018 w Oddziale IHAR-PIB w Boninie oceniano wpływ zastosowania nawozów mikroelementowych Micro 1 B i Mikro 1 K jako nawożenie uzupełniające nawożenie podstawowe pod ziemniaki. Najwyższy plon bulw uzyskano dla kombinacji, w której do nawożenia podstawowego zastosowano dodatkowo nawóz Micro 1 K. Na poletkach, na których aplikowano ten zestaw nawozów stwierdzono najwyższy wzrost plonu ogólnego oraz plonu bulw dużych (powyżej 55 mm) przydatnych do przetwórstwa.
In the years 2016-2018, the IHAR-PIB Branch in Bonin assessed the effect of the application of micro 1 B and Micro 1 K micronutrient fertilizers as supplementary fertilization for basic fertilization for potatoes. The highest tuber yield was obtained for the combination in which the basic fertilization was additionally applied with Micro1K. In the plots where this set of fertilizers was applied, the highest increase in the total yield and the yield of large tubers (over 55 mm) suitable for processing was observed.

Praca dotyczy charakterystyki mineralogicznej wybranych złóż kamieni szlachetnych. Wstępne badania podjęto w dwóch regionach, z uwagi na to, że obszary gemmonośne zajmują jedną czwartą terenu Sri Lanki, co stanowi fenomen mineralogiczny i geologiczny. Opisano i przedstawiono dwa złoża z centralnej (Ratnapura) i południowo-zachodniej (Meetiyagoda) części kompleksu wyżyn, biorąc pod uwagę ich ciekawy charakter mineralogiczny i stosunkowo łatwą dostępność. Złoża te przedstawiono na tle budowy geologicznej kraju obejmującej głównie skały prekambryjskie oraz trzech genetycznych typów złóż: magmowych (pegmatytowych), metamorficznych i osadowych.
The present paper concerns a mineralogical characteristic of selected gem deposits. Introductory studies in two localities were conducted since the gem bearing areas occupy one fourth of the area of Sri Lanka, that is a mineralogical and geological phenomenon. Two types of rich deposits situated in central (Ratnapura) and southwestern (Meetiyagoda) parts of the Highland/South-Eastern Complex have been described and presented taking into account their mineralogical curiosities and relatively easy access. They are shown on the geological background of the country mostly built of the Precambrian rocks and three genetic types of deposits: magmatic (pegmatitic), metamorphic and sedimentary.

Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a brain disorder and the main reason for dementia. In this regard, there is a need to understand the alterations that occur during aging to develop treatment strategies to mitigate or prevent neurodegenerative consequences. Onion and garlic root extracts contain natural polyphenols with high antioxidant capacity; therefore, the present study aimed to investigate the protective effect of these extracts free from mycotoxin contamination on a rat model of AD. Antifungal and antibacterial assays were performed for onion and garlic extracts. Several groups of AD-induced rats were administered 1, 2, and 3 mg/kg onion or garlic extract through intragastric intubation for 30 days. After treatment, histopathological analysis, expression of apoptosis-related genes, and analyses of DNA damage and reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation were conducted in the brain tissues. The results indicate that treatment of AD-induced rats with several doses of onion and garlic root extracts decreased histopathological lesions, the expression levels of apoptotic genes, and the rate of DNA damage and inhibited intracellular ROS generation in the brain tissues. The results suggest that the protective role of onion root extract could be attributed to its content of flavonoids and flavonoid compounds through the improvement of antioxidant capacity and regulation of gene expression patterns. The higher activity levels of free radical scavenging of azino-bis (3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulphonic acid (ABTS) and antioxidant ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) levels found in garlic root extract are most probably responsible for its protective effect against neurodegenerative damage.

This paper proposes an estimation method for ships on collision courses taking crash astern maneuvers based on a new potential area of water (PAW) for maneuvering. A crash astern maneuver is an emergency option a ship can take when exposed to the risk of a collision with other ships that have lost control. However, lateral forces and yaw moments exerted by the reversing propeller, as well as the uncertainty of the initial speed and initial yaw rate, will move the ship out of the intended stopping position landing it in a dangerous area. A new PAW for crash astern maneuvers is thus introduced. The PAW is developed based on a probability density function of the initial yaw rate. Distributions of the yaw rates and speeds are analyzed from automatic identification system (AIS) data in Madura Strait, and estimated paths of the maneuvers are simulated using a mathematical maneuvering group model.

The experiment was laid out in a strip-split plot design consisting of 16 treatments with three replications, at NMRP, Rampur, Chitwan during the winter season (October, 2015 to March, 2016). Four different levels of planting geometry (60 cm×30 cm, 60 cm×24 cm, 60 cm×19.5 cm and 60 cm×16.5 cm, representing 55,555, 69,444, 85,470 and 1,01,010 plants ha-1, respectively), two hybrid varieties of maize (Rampur hybrid 4 and Rampur hybrid 6) and two tillage methods (conventional and zero tillage) were used as the treatments. Economic analysis revealed that significantly higher net benefit (NRs. 1,06,692 ha-1) was obtained with 85 rather than 55 thousand plants ha-1 (NRs. 79,249 ha-1), but remained at par with 69 (NRs. 92,656 ha-1) and 101 (NRs. 96,198 ha-1) thousand plants ha-1. Moreover, the B:C ratio was higher in 85 (2.57) than 55 (2.28), 69 (2.43) and 101 (2.35) thousand plants ha-1. The net returns and B:C ratio (NRs. 97,372 and 2.46) obtained from Rampur hybrid 6 were also higher, but statistically at par with Rampur hybrid 4 (NRs. 90,024 and 2.35), respectively. In addition, net returns and B:C ratio obtained from zero tillage (NRs. 1,03,473 and 2.6) were better than conventional tillage (NRs. 83,924 and 2.22). Thus, both hybrid maize varieties (Rampur hybrid 4 and Rampur hybrid 6) can be successfully grown under a zero tillage system with optimum plant population of 85 thousand plants ha-1 to achieve higher grain yield and better winter season net returns in western Chitwan, Rampur, Nepal.
