Opis:
This work presents electrophoretic seed globulin data obtained for 173 accessions representing nine Vicia species of the section Faba, which were already investigated for electrophoretic seed albumin patterns (PRZYBYLSKA, ZIMNIAK-PRZYBYLSKA, in press). Electrophoretic analysis of seed globulins was performed using sodium dodecyl sulphate - polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE). In the examined material totally 38 well-defined polypeptide bands, in the relative molecular mass range of 19-61 kDa, were distinguished. The presence/absence of particular bands was recorded for each analysed individual. The electrophoretic data were used for hierarchical grouping of the examined taxa, based on calculated Bhattacharyya distances. V. bithynica proved to be the most distinctive member of Vicia section Faba. In turn, V. faba was clearly different from species of the V. narbonensis complex. Taxa of this complex formed two clusters: one consisting of V. narbonensis varieties and another - of the remaining species. In the latter group, V. serratifolia appeared to be rather distantly related to V. eristalioides, V. galilaea, V. hyaeniscyamus, V. Johannis and V. kalakhensis. The obtained results are compared with the corresponding seed albumin data and discussed with reference to taxonomie relationships in Vicia section Faba.

Populus is a genus that contains numerous taxa that are often difficult to identify. They are grouped into six sections which are mainly based on the differences in the structure of flowers and leaves. Nevertheless, other features are also of great importance in identifying individual sections. In this paper, individual sections are characterized. Two subsections within the Populus section (syn. Leuce Duby) are distinguished, due to the clear differences between white poplars and aspens. The sections are as follows: sect. 1. Abaso Eckenw. (mexican poplar), sect. 2. Turanga Bunge (arid and tropical poplars), sect. 3. Leucoides Spach (bigleaf poplars), sect. 4. Aigeiros Duby (cottonwoods and black poplar), sect. 5. Tacamahaca Spach (balsam poplars), sect. 6. Populus, with two subsections: 6a. Populus (white poplars) and 6b. Trepidae (Dode) Tamm (aspens).

Opis:
Although intraspecies researches within the black pine (Pinus nigra Arnold) have a long tradition, the intraspecies taxonomy, classification and chorology are still unclear. Among the numerous reasons that have caused this situation the most important are: the absence of a study that would completely cover the whole range of this species, the impossibility of connection of results of the existing detailed studies of certain areas, and the high variability of traits which have been used so far. Since the characteristics of the molecular systematic techniques could make possible the research free of the mentioned shortages, the intention of this study was to determine the relationships among nine populations of black pine using the random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD). The obtained results were compared to the recent results of the morphological and anatomical analysis of the leaves of the same populations. The RAPD results clearly divided the Croatian populations from populations of Austria (subsp. nigra) and Turkey (subsp. pallasiana), while among Croatian populations, as in previous study, the existence of several groups (subsp. illyrica, subsp. dalmatica and transitional population between them) was noticed. It is assumed that the optimisations conducted in this study will finally make possible estimating the relationships on the level of the whole range of the black pine and the classification based on molecular traits that are probably less dependent on environmental influences than it has been the case with the characteristics mostly used so far.

The field of physical (activity) and health education, or whatever it is called in any one of the world’s countries, has undergone a “determined” but often “confused” development in the 20th century. After Sputnik went up in 1957, the field sought help from a variety of disciplines (e.g., kinesiology) and professions (e.g., management) in an attempt to truly define itself. Building on what Arthur Steinhaus (George Williams College) stated were its four “principal principles” in the early 1950s, the author asserts that some 14 “principal principles” of the field can now be affirmed. Searching for consensus, a proposed taxonomy for “developmental physical activity in exercise, sport, and physical recreation” is offered here for consideration as the field moves along in the 21st century. The author argues that the field also needs to make available to the professional practitioner a computerized inventory of generalizations that represents a distillation of the field’s scientific and scholarly literature.

Lieberkuehnia wageneri Claparède et Lachmann, 1859, a poorly known freshwater foraminiferan, was re-discovered after 38 years in a moss sample from an oak-hornbeam forest in Malé Karpaty Mts. (Western Slovakia). The species was taxonomically revised, re-described using light microscopical observations, and its occurrence and ecology were reviewed. Its locomotive form is typical with membranous and flexible ovoid test having a single terminal aperture from which a broad pseudopodial network emerges on a pseudopodial peduncle. Additional data and details are described, illustrated and discussed. Lieberkuehnia wageneri is known from various freshwater, soil and marine habitats in Western and Middle Europe, suggesting a high ecological tolerance and wide distribution. It is hoped that the observations reported in this paper will aid the identification of this species based on the locomotive morphology at the light microscopical level.

This amoeba is superficially similar to Thecamoeba sphaeronucleolus, but comparison of the newly isolated strain with the photographs and video records of the type strain of this species reveals differences which show that the two strains do not belong to the same morphospecies. The data obtained indicate the necessity of further comparative studies on the diversity of thecamoebian ‘morphospecies’ to outline clearer borders between them.

The oligotrichid ciliate Strombidium coronatum (Leegaard, 1915) Kahl, 1932 is redescribed from plankton samples taken in the Irish Sea, using live observation, protargol impregnation, and scanning electron microscopy. The species is characterized by a conspicuous, uniquelly shaped peristome, which is flat and roughly triangular and extends in the sagittal plane. The Irish Sea specimens measure ~ 45 × 25 µm in vivo and ~ 40 × 24 µm after protargol impregnation. The girdle kinety is equatorial, ostensibly continuous, and composed of ~ 100 dikinetids. The ventral kinety extends longitudinally on the posterior fifth of the cell and is composed of about five dikinetids. The adoral zone of membranelles is widely open and composed of ~ 18 collar and ~ 12 buccal membranelles; the collar portion is disconnected from the buccal portion. The shape and orientation of the opisthe’s adoral zone of membranelles are apparently extraordinary, i.e., the membranelles form an inverted L-shaped stripe extending longitudinally in the elongated posterior cell portion of dividers.

Cochliopodium actinophorum (Auerbach, 1856) is one of the oldest and most frequently mentioned species of the genus, yet the structure of scales comprising tectum of these amoebae has never been described, and the strain previously used to re-define this species based on light microscopic characters was lost. A new strain identified as C. actinophorum using light microscopy was isolated recently, and molecular sequence data of this strain were published, yet without any morphological data. Here, the results of light and electron microscopic study of this strain are presented that confirm its identification as C. actinophorum and allow a proposal of a new diagnosis of this species thus linking morphology, scale ultrastructure and available gene sequence data. The newly isolated strain deposited with CCAP (accession number 1537/10) is designated as a neotype.

Megaspore descriptions relate the gross morphology and fine structure of the exine surface of thirteen taxa. From the appearance of the exine surface and ornamentation processes, it appears that some forms currently included in certain genera according to their morphological features do not belong to them. The assemblage from Sholga is evidently of low diversity at the generic level, possibly reflecting the end-Permian biotic crisis. This is the first Paratethyan record of a minute scallop species Parvamussium fenestratum (Forbes, 1844). The species was found in Middle Miocene (Upper Badenian) clayey deposits in the Surzha borehole, the Ukrainian Carpathian Foredeep Basin. Examination of other Parvamussium specimens stored in the Museum of the Earth in Warsaw and in the Hungarian Natural History Museum in Budapest revealed further Paratethyan records of Parvamussium fenestratum. These specimens, previously referred to Parvamussium felsineum (Foresti, 1893), were identified in the Middle Miocene faunas of Poland (Monastyrz and Długi Goraj, Roztocze Hills) and Hungary (Makkoshotyka, Tokaj Mts.). In the Mediterranean Neogene this extremely rare species has been reported from the Lower Miocene (uppermost Burdigalian) of Italy and from the Lower Pliocene (Zanclean) of Spain. Research on the Oligocene-Miocene succession in the Paratethys has shown representatives of Parvamussium Sacco, 1897 to be moderately abundant in clayey facies in different basins and the genus is regarded as biostratigraphically important. Data on the distribution of other Paratethyan and Neogene Mediterranean Parvamussium species viz., Parvamussium bronni (Mayer, 1861), P. duodecimlamellatum (Bronn, 1831), P. felsineum (Foresti, 1893) and P. miopliocenicum (Ruggieri, 1949) are reported. Finally, palaeobiological and palaeobiogeographical characteristics on the genus Parvamussium Sacco, 1897 the Early Cretaceous to Recent time span are described.

Revision of the Silesian bear fauna, based on material from 152 sites, mainly cave and karstic localities, and also archaeological and open-air sites, shows the presence of 13 forms and species. These records encompass the last 16.5 Ma and may be divided into five main morphophyletic groups. The oldest bears, represented by the genera Ballusia and Ursavus, are dated to 16.5-11 Ma, and belonged to the stem forms of the subfamily Ursinae. After a break of 6 My, the earliest members of the genus Ursus appeared, and all known Pliocene bears in Silesia belong to the genus Ursus were identified as Ursus minimus. They represent one or two migration events. Additionally, between 3.6 and 3.2 Ma, a single occurence of Agriotherium insigne was recorded from the Węże 1 site. A few Early Pleistocene bear records are represented by U. etruscus, which was a probable ancestor of both arctoid and spelaeoid bear lineages. The oldest representative of Ursus ex gr. arctos known so far and assigned to U. a. suessenbornensis is known from one latest Early Pleistocene (1.2-0.9 Ma) locality, while other Polish records of this form require confirmation. The first occurrence of U. deningeri, the oldest taxon within the U. ex gr. deningeri-spelaeus lineage, was recorded from ~700 ka deposits in Silesia. During the pronounced cold period of MIS 12, the Scandinavian ice sheet covered almost the entire modern territory of Poland, with the exception of the Sudetes and the Carpathians. The accompanying drastic faunal turnover led to the formation of the pan-Eurasian Mammoth Fauna at ~460 ka. At that time a characteristic member of this fauna, the steppe brown bear Ursus arctos priscus, a specific ecomorph adapted to live in open grasslands, appeared in this region. It survived until the beginning of MIS 1, when modern Ursus arctos arctos appeared in Silesia and survived to the present day. U. deningeri was the most common bear during the Middle Pleistocene, while the first records of U. spelaeus spelaeus appeared since MIS 7. The latter form was replaced by U. ingressus during the Late Pleistocene (~110-100 ka). Spelaeoid bears totally dominated the cave assemblage, and finally vanished between 27 and 24 ka.

The situation of microenterprises on the market is difficult as they are faced with barriers and competitiveness imposed by larger units. We used data from the REGIOGMINA project to assess the situation of microenterprises. The REGIOGMINA project was implemented by a consortium of Kujawsko–Pomorskie Voivodship, the SGH Warsaw School of Economics and the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń in the scope of the GOSPOSTRATEG initiative. This data set was complemented by data provided by the Local Data Bank of Statistics Poland. The analysis describes the situation in Kujawsko-Pomorskie Voivodship. The information from both sources illustrates the situation of microenterprises at a local level (gmina) in the years 2019–2020. A cluster analysis based on taxonomy methods was performed. The aim of the research is to expand the knowledge and contribute to a better understanding of the social and economic problems that microenterprises are confronted with at a local level. The study covers the period before the COVID-19 pandemic and the first year following its outbreak, which makes it possible to assess the effects that the measures taken against the pandemic had on the situation of microenterprises at a local level.

Opis:
Pollen grains of 15 species of the genus Sansevieria were examined using light and scanning electron microscopy. The pollen grains were single, but dyads were also found. The basic shape of the pollen grains (with chemical treatment) was subprolate, prolate and prolate-spheroidal and the pollen grains were large (> 50 mm). The pollen grains observed in SEM were prolate-spheroidal, subprolate, prolate and perprolate. The aperture occupied nearly the entire distal hemisphere. The surface of non-apertural areas was microreticulate, psilate–perforate, fossulate and verrucate. The surface of the apertural area was psilate-perforate-verrucate, microreticulate-verrucategemmate and psilate-perforate. The tectum was homogeneous, with perforations. Our results suggest that some species cannot be separated based on pollen grain morphology, but only may be categorized into their groups. The present study investigated pollen grain morphology in eleven species for the first time in terms of pollen micromorphology and provided some important new data.

The achene morphology and pericarp anatomy of 12 taxa representing three genera (Anemone, Hepatica, and Pulsatilla) of the subtribe Anemoninae were investigated using microtome and light microscopy to evaluate the taxonomic implications of achene characters. The achenes of Anemone were elliptical or obovoid and beaked, whereas the achene of Hepatica and Pulsatilla were obovoid and elliptical, respectively. Noticeable variations in both quantitative and qualitative features of achenes were observed among the species of the three genera. One-way analysis of variance indicated that the quantitative achene variables among the species were highly significant (P<0.001). Pearson’s correlation coefficient also showed a significant correlation between different achene variables. The pericarp structure, particularly the number of cell layers and cell forms in the exocarp and endocarp, seems to be very useful for species delimitation in Anemone and Hepatica. The nature of the endotesta could provide substantial proof for sub-generic classification in Anemone. Unweighted paired group analysis showed the utility of achene features for taxonomic groupings of the species within the studied genera. Although the specimen samples represented a limited range of taxa, the achene features and pericarp anatomy provided a reasonable source for the taxonomic treatment of the studied genera within the subtribe.

According to contemporary understanding of the universal tree of life, the traditionally recognized kingdoms of eukaryotic organisms-Protista, Fungi, Animalia and Plantae-are irregularly interspersed in a vast phylogenetic tree. There are numerous groups that in any Linnaean classification advised by phylogenetic relationships (i.e. a Hennigian system) would form sister groups to those kingdoms, therefore requiring us to admit them the same rank. In practice, this would lead to the creation of ca. 25-30 new kingdoms that would now be listed among animals and plants as “major types of life”. This poses problems of an aesthetic and educational nature. There are, broadly speaking, two ways to deal with that issue: a) ignore the aesthetic and educational arguments and propose classification systems that are fully consistent with the Hennigian principles of phylogenetic classification, i.e. are only composed of monophyletic taxa; b) ignore Hennigian principles and bunch small, relatively uncharacteristic groups into paraphyletic taxa, creating systems that are more convenient. In the paper, I present the debate and analyze the pros and cons of both options, briefly commenting on the deeper, third resolution, which would be to abandon classification systems entirely. Recent advances in eukaryotic classification and phylogeny are commented in the light of the philosophical question of the purpose and design principles of biological classification systems.

All the investigated cone features were moderately differentiated, with the variation coefficient ranging from 8 to 30%. The particular populations differ significantly from each other statistically according to several features examined. The samples collected in the same population also vary significantly. The differences between populations, however, do not enable their division into groups, which supports their origination from the same Pleistocene refugia.

D. lanceolata was oval in body outline, about 65 × 45 μm in vivo, with a subcaudally positioned podite, six to seven right kineties, two or three frontoventral kineties, and two ventral contractile vacuoles. The improved diagnosis for L. nordica and a key to all known Lynchella species are supplied. The rediscovery of C. paucidentatus enables us to accept its taxonomic identification (e.g., separation from a morphologically similar species Trochilioides recta). The genus Trochilioides Deroux, nov. gen., which was a nomen nudum according to ICZN (1999), is re-established.

Opis:
If ichnotaxonomy is to be scientific, then its results must be repeatable. While some ichnotaxa are identified consistently, others are not, suggesting that ichnotaxonomy is not a mature science. When researchers disagree on the identification of a specimen, it suggests that closer examination is needed: an intermediate stage in the scientific method. But when ichnologists publish different names for the same trace fossils, multiple trials of classification have yielded different results, suggesting a failure of the hypotheses that led to the names. The burgeoning of invertebrate ichnology from the 1960s onward was made possible by demonstrating its utility to the petroleum industry; in part, this was accomplished by simplifying the ichnotaxonomy of common trace fossils to the point where a specialist was not required to make use of them in sedimentology and stratigraphy. The biological aspect of trace fossils, albeit of great interest, was downplayed in favour of a severely geometric approach. Ironically, this has had the effect of obscuring basic relationships of trace fossils and their palaeoenvironments that could be of great use to sedimentologists. Previous researchers have emphasized the value of a uniform approach in ichnotaxonomy. To accomplish this, ichnologists should take inspiration from the taxonomy of body fossils. Making ichnotaxonomy more replicable will take time and effort among investigators. In the long run, this can be accomplished by a holistic approach that includes close observation of trace fossils, standardized procedures of description and diagnosis, reinvestigation of type material, attention to bioprint (morphological traits that reveal the anatomical and ethological characteristics of the tracemakers; Rindsberg and Kopaska-Merkel, 2005), avoidance of taphonomic and human bias, and above all, cooperation.

Poszukiwanie skutecznych metod wyboru informacji wynika z obserwowanego obecnie nadmiaru danych. Metoda pozwala na ograniczenie zbioru danych w ściśle określony sposób z uwzględnieniem cech dziedziny, celu, w jakim dane będą wykorzystywane i konsekwencji wynikających z odrzucenia pozostałych danych.
Considering the excess of available data, it is necessary to design effective methods of data selection. This paper presents an application of the GQM (Goal, Question, Metric) method in data selection and processing. The GQM method is typically used in software development to define and specify multidimensional software quality functions that assume explicit definition of data selection purpose depending on user or software developer requirements. In this paper, it is shown that the method may also be used to select appropriate data from different dedicated domain data sets. The method enables a user to narrow the set of selected data in a strictly specified manner considering the characteristic of a target domain, the purpose of data selection and consequences of potential data rejection. As shown in the paper, the method may be applied to select data from educational data sets, taxonomy-based literature sets and natural language description of object oriented structures.

Mayfly larvae may perhaps be considered as candidates for its tracemaker. Other arthropods (amphipods, isopods) are also possibilities. The brown-coal layer was exposed during the Neogene by river erosion, was colonized by the tracemaker (locally two colonization events took place) and in the Pliocene covered by distal crevasse and river channel sands.

In December 2022. Parliament and the Council of the European Union adopted the Directive on Corporate Sustainability Reporting EU/2022/2464 . This directive is linked to a number of European Commission regulations enacted between 2019 and 2022, primarily concerning environmental and climate issues. The full implementation of the provisions of these new pieces of legislation into practice, due to their great complexity and voluminosity, appears to be a difficult process and one that requires considerable effort, not only organisational but also financial, from the companies covered. This study aims to present the objectives and goals of Directive EU/2022/2464 and its associated regulations, and to evaluate these legal acts. As a result of these discussion, it has been established that the newly introduced regulatory system for corporate sustainability information meets the current challenges facing the societies and economies of EU member states. The system is extremely complex in terms of the content of its provisions, which makes compliance with the established regulations appear to be a very difficult task. information. It can reduce the risk of investing in questionably sustainable assets or limit unfair competition from surrounding companies. A system of ‘taxonomies’ may also contribute to increasing the transparency of individual markets, which arguably has a positive impact on the cost of preparing investor projects. The introduction of a ‘taxonomy’ into the practice of companies involves an increase in the costs of data collection, processing and disclosure as required by this system. Linked to Directive EU/2022/2464, the ‘taxonomy’ system is one of the key tools for creating a common framework for sustainable investment activities and practices. This system can bring many benefits to investors. Indeed, it can effectively reduce greenwashing by standardising the disclosure of environmental sustainabilit information. It can reduce the risk of investing in questionably sustainable assets or limit unfair competition from surrounding companies. A system of ‘taxonomies’ may also contribute to increasing the transparency of individual markets, which arguably has a positive impact on the cost of preparing investor projects. The location of stomata and the structural details of exostome teeth and endostome segments are among the most important taxonomic features used for identifying Orthotrichum species. Certain species pairs (e.g. O. stramineum vs. O. pallens; O. pumilum vs. O. stellatum) are distinguished based on the presence or absence of hair on the vaginula. The authors have shown that this feature is not always appropriate for species identification. Some specimens of O. affine, O. anomalum or O. speciosum were found to have a hairy vaginula, although this feature is not included in their description. The confusion with species determination was resolved in a subsequent DNA analysis of the specimens. The reliability of this character is briefly discussed in the paper.

Opis:
A recently investigated Zechstein Limestone (Ca1, Wuchiapingian) bryozoan fauna from the Polish part of the Southern Permian Basin (SW Poland) is dominated volumetrically and taxonomically by fenestellids. In total six species from five genera are recognized, comprising two species of trepostomes belonging to Dyscritella Girty, 1911 and four fenestellids attributed to Kingopora Morozova, 1970, Kalvariella Morozova, 1970, Acanthocladia King, 1849 and Spinofenestella Termier and Termier, 1971. The greatest biodiversity of the bryozoans in the Ca1 profiles studied is within the slope facies where large, fan-shaped and funnel-shaped reticulate fenestellid colonies up to 10 cm high dominate. In contrast, bryozoans in the marginal (proximal) parts of the basin mostly comprise trepostomes, represented by encrusting plate-like or coil-shaped colonies of Dyscritella Girty, and commonly broken branched colonies of Acanthocladia King. The changes in the biotic composition of the bryozoans and the presence of a dominant colony growth form in the stratigraphical profile of the Ca1 reflect the depositional environment and water energy. These factors stimulate the successive stages of the development of the biota and their settlement, marked by the rich productid-fenestellid assemblages typical of the offshore setting, with the maximum depth in the middle part of the Ca1 in the Grodziec Syncline. The proximal tempestites and foreshore facies of the upper part of the Ca1 (Leszczyna Syncline) terminate the sedimentary cycle of the Ca1, with the remnant, broken bryozoans of Acanthocladia and fenestellids. The relationship between the taxonomic composition, colony growth-patterns, associated biota, and sedimentary structures points to slow sedimentation rate on slope and basin floor of the Ca1 carbonate platform. The fenestellids which are dominated in the studied biota by the reticulate and pinnate colonies of Spinofenestella, Kingopora, Kalvariella and Acanthocladia mark a close palaeogeographical link with the Zechstein (Ca1) bryozoans of Great Britain, Germany and the southern Baltic region.

Opis:
Pseudothurmanniid ammonites within Upper Hauterivian calcareous deposits are present in quarries on Polomec Hill near the village of Lietavská Lúčka, Slovakia. These deposits belong to the Mráznica Formation of the Krížna Nappe that is a part of the Fatricum Unit in the Central Western Carpathians. Nine ammonite species are described in detail, one of which, Binellicerasmichalíki, is new. The species identified indicate the Upper Hauterivian Balearis and Ohmi ammonite zones. The zone of the uppermost Hauterivian, Catulloi Zone, is not documented as far as pseudothurmanniid ammonites are concerned. The lackof developmentally younger representatives of the pseudothurmanniid ammonites neitherin the studied locali ty, nor in other Slovak locali ties, is explained by marked changes in the northern Tethyan margin in Europe duri ng the latest Hauterivian.

Opis:
The article applies dynamic multi-dimensional methods of relative taxonomy in an attempt to evaluate disparities in development of technical infrastructure in rural areas between the provinces of Poland. The results show that although the indices that describe the level of infrastructure development have been rising between 2004 and 2012, regional inequalities have remained high. Moreover, some of the provinces least developed in 2004 have not taken advantage of the opportunities provided by the EU accession to develop technical infrastructure in rural areas and boost their attractiveness.

Opis:
The study analyses the possibility to measure the scale of disproportion in the development of the synthetic feature between spatial objects over a period of time on the basis of relativised values of diagnostic features. The study also proposes the construction of taxonomically relative indices of development according to the approach based on spatial median and it compares this approach with the classic approach proposed by Wydymus (2013). Both approaches are illustrated with a numerical example referring to the economic infrastructure in rural areas of the counties in Wielkopolskie Voivodeship.
