The subject of this work is the use of social network analysis to increase the effectiveness of methods used to predict churn of telephony network subscribers. The social network is created on the basis of operational data (CDR records). The result of the analysis is customer segmentation and additional predictor variables. Proposed hybrid predictor employs set of regression models tuned to specific customer segments. The verification was performed on data obtained from one of the Polish operators.

Companies which decide on socially responsible activities usually take into consideration benefits including the marketing effects of CSR programmes. However, in order to achieve that, the information about the socially responsible activities of companies must be spread and reach the audience of the company. That includes stakeholders related to the company that might be interested in receiving information about the social initiatives undertaken by the company. These stakeholders are connected with the firm through the network of social ties (SN). The main goal of this article is to present a theoretical framework of roles that these networks of social ties play in the effective communication of CSR activities. This paper is divided into three parts. The first one concerns the problem of how to communicate the involvement of a company in social initiatives. The second one contains the description of possible communication processes and strategies. The last one presents the analysis of the social networks perspective and its main characteristics and, in conclusion, it summarizes the main benefits a company can gain by applying the SN concept to CSR communication in the area of attribution and information spread through various channels.

Traditionally aging research focused on the disintegration of social ties, however it has recently been observed that whom we contact has a larger impact on well-being (Cacioppo et al., 2009). The authors used data from the Social Networks II module of the International Social Survey Programme to investigate the role of social network components in successful aging. A factor analysis on 1221 Polish participants revealed 4 factors that were interpreted as: close, medium, and distant family, and friends. Well-being variables were most strongly related to contact with distant family, while SS variables were most strongly related to friends. Given SS was strongly related to distant family, while perceived SS was strongly related to close family. All family contacts decreased with age, though only distant family contacts were proactively managed. These results indicate the importance of distant family in Poland, in contrast to other countries.

For several years, social networking sites are growing in popularity in Poland. That is why, more and more organizations take action known as social media marketing. This also applies to universities. The situation on the market of higher educational services forces universities to enterprising behavior. Just as business organizations, usually universities take actions on Facebook, the most popular social networking site, which is used by nearly 70% of Polish Internet users. The purpose of this article is to analyze and evaluate the activity of Polish universities and their students on Facebook, to compare the activity of public and private universities, and to identify activities that universities should take on this portal. The analysis is based on the author’s own research: exploration of university’s sites (fanpages) on Facebook (conducted from January 2012) and a survey carried out among the students of two Polish universities.

In this article, we present an idea of combining social networking websites and modern mobile devices abilities to transfer social networking activity to a higher level. Nowadays, these devices and websites are used to offer ability of remote communication (phone calls, message exchange etc.), which potentially can be used to notify people about meetings in the real world. Since the current social network models do not provide enough information for such notification (social networking websites are examples of social networks) a new social network model that will be suitable for the above mentioned application is proposed and a new social platform that base on mobile devices is introduced. This platform can notify users when their friends are nearby. The paper presents the model and the simulation that verifies the approach.

In a short period of time, Ukrainians became the second largest foreign community living in Portugal. Without historical ties linking the two countries, the ‘migration industry’ as well as positive feedback and assistance provided through pioneers’ social networks were decisive for the constitution and rapid expansion of the flow. However it slowed down in only few years and the economic crisis affecting Portugal since 2008 has introduced new limits to a possible future expansion. The goal of the paper is to provide insights with respect to the evolution of the flow, particularly looking at mechanisms of assistance and feedback provided and received within social networks, including the role of the ‘migration industry’. We explored quantitative and qualitative data collected through questionnaires applied to 306 Ukrainians and interviews conducted with 31 Ukrainians in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area in 2011 and 2012. The research confirms the importance of assistance received through social networks at different stages of the preparation of the move, upon arrival and throughout the settlement process in Portugal. We conclude that negative opinions on the present economic opportunities in Portugal have replaced initial positive perceptions about labour market opportunities and this information is being transmitted through social networks to Ukrainians back in Ukraine. We suggest that the significant decrease of the inflow can probably be explained by negative feedback and a more limited willingness to assist the migration of others. Future trends in the migratory flow of Ukrainian citizens to Portugal as well as the permanence of these immigrants in the country are uncertain. On the one hand, migrants are struggling to live through the crisis, while the recent social upheaval in Ukraine pushes them to leave.

Recent technological innovations (Web 2.0) in today’s society mean that a major socio-anthropological change is occurring. On the net, audiences can experience new forms of participation, share information and entertainment practices, and establish new relationships. This paper describes the main characteristics of Web 2.0 with specific reference to the Italian context and categories of users who use social networks (and their motivations), using the latest national survey data. This paper analyzes changes in the identity and culture of consumption, which thanks to social media are today expressed according to the logic of experience and performance. Through social media, performative consumption represents one of the most suitable way to describe the multiple aspects of the contemporary consumer’s identity.

Party profiles are not used as a platform of the information on party activity distribution. Even basic contact data is not available on each of analyzed profiles. Moreover, as was expected, there is no clear association between the technical sophistication of the specific party profile and the position of the party on political market. Parties which are leaders of the ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) use are not dominating in terms of both possessed resources and the role played in parliamentary politics.

The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between the adoption of the social networks by teaching candidates and their loneliness. With this purpose in mind, 133 students from education faculties were involved in this study. In the study, the UCLA Loneliness Scale and the Social Networks Adoption Scale were applied to the students. After using the SPSS 18.0 program, the results from the scales were deduced using the Pearson Correlation, Independent t-Test, and One-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). A significant relationship between students’ scores of loneliness and the usage of online social networks was revealed. The conclusion is that the loneliness scores of the students increase according to the frequency students use social networks. In addition, it can be said that the loneliness situation of students and their adoption of social networks does not change according to the universities in which they study.

In this paper, I focused particular attention on the relationship between the structure and dynamics of complex networks. I am convinced of importance of measuring the structural properties of evolving networks in order to characterize how the connectivity of the investigating structures changes in time. Network measurement are therefore essential in my investigation. I intend to test how the non-stability of structure properties can be viewed as a factor that show abnormal state of the system (e.g. increasing of terrorism activity) modeled by complex networks. Complex networks are commonly modeled by means of simply or directed graphs. In some cases the use of graph to represent complex networks does not provide a complete description of the real-world systems under investigation. Consequently, I will formally introduce the hypernetwork concept as generalization for representing complex networks and will call them complex hyper-networks.

Internetowe portale społecznościowe – popularna forma komunikacji społecznej (np. Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, nk.pl), to platformy kontaktu, tworzenia wizerunku, wymiany myśli i zdjęć. .
Social networking portals – a popular form of social communication (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, nk.pl) are platforms of contact, creating an image, exchanging thoughts and photos. Common application of them is the reason why they are also used to express aggression, use emo-tional abuse and propagate threats. The social service users, while being potential victims of criminal activity, are exposed to confidential or sensitive data leak or unauthorized access to the information published by them or even to spy activities. They can be harassed and exposed to their image being disseminated without their consent. It is easy for network criminals to hide and act on a mass scale among a large group of users. The result of harmful activity can be the theft of personal data or access data (e.g. to bank accounts) or the creation of botnets of accounts over which control has been taken. In the webpage environment it is easy to conduct attacks of socio-technical nature (phishing) using the users’ confidence, gullibility or inattention. To increase their reliability special devices have been created to search for and process data quickly. Database internet systems are exposed to threats to a large degree, since they can be effectively attacked mainly for the reason of software faults. Database applications show susceptibility to, among others, the attack with properly prepared SQL queries. Also, the non-protected references to objects, too poor confirmation mechanisms and session management mechanisms as well as server configuration errors are indicated as a frequent reason for the possibility of database system attacks. Social communication through the Internet creates also a threat of users’ tapping and free use of the information gathered. Numerous charges of this kind are addressed to the social portal ad-ministrators themselves. The users may also infringe the law being unaware of it, because they process personal data that are subject to special protection.

Previous research in social science established the existence of mutual relationship between cultural tastes and social networks. What is less known, however, is how this connectivity translates into tangible social benefits (social capital). By applying the resource generator tool, the article explores the extent to which access to different social resources (social capital) is related to pursuing different cultural activities, independent of social standing and network features. Empirically, the possibilities of locally representative survey data (N = 1010) from Poland (2017) are exploited. The analysis brings two main findings: (i) participation in elite culture is positively associated with better access to instrumental resources (lending money, job assistance), (ii) while popular culture is more relevant to “information and (cultural) influences” social capital and to general access to resources. The contribution of the study is to show that cultural consumption may assist in the accumulation of important social resources and thus contribute to solidifying social inequalities

Conventional economic theories assume that competing firms act independently. This theoretical assumption is applied to economic policies and anti-trust legislation. In contrast, economic sociology describes competition as a special type of social action that is oriented towards others. More specifically, to remain in the market, competing firms monitor one another and cooperate by establishing inter-organisational social ties. This paper demonstrates that increasing market pressures, including higher levels of competition and stronger bargaining power among exchange partners, does not disrupt social ties but promotes them. Data for the analysis were collected in 2007 from 501 managers of retail chains and their suppliers in five Russia’s cities (Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Novosibirsk, and Tyumen). The sample includes firms of different sizes that operate in the food and electronics sectors of the consumer market.

Tendencies of mediatization, globalization, commercialization etc. in modern societies cause a loss of relevance of traditional agencies of socialization. Individuals are increasingly challenged to enfold their socialization on their own. Media products become highly relevant for an individual’s socialization. To be able to manage the demands of socialization, the individual needs to develop sophisticated competences of communication. The competences of communication enable the individual to identify and reflect his/her personal needs. Identity is conceived as the realization of an individual’s competence of construction of communication in interactive situations. Online social networks such as Facebook.com provide spaces of communication, in which individuals can work on their identity in processes of interaction. By methods of network analysis this research explores the impact of structures of social networks on the individual’s competences of communication and, hence, the impact on identity constructed on social networks.

Aim. This article presents the results of research whose aim is to establish if social networks are useful tools to promote social relationships and support for the elderly citizens. Method. One hundred thirty people over the age of 65 participated in the research. For this purpose, the scale “elderly people and social network” (elaborated ad hoc) was applied. Results and conclusion. The results obtained through descriptive analysis of the gathered data indicate that social networks provide support for elderly people who had already acquired digital competence in the past. The study also reveals that there are personal variables, especially of an educational nature, that determine the acquisition of an active role as generators and producers of digital content (prosumers). In conclusion, it could be said that social networks have a positive influence on the well-being of the elderly and their fight against undesirable loneliness. The more heterogeneous the social network is, the more active the elderly people are.

The article refers to research carried out at the Migration and Ethnic Relations department of the Faculty of Anthropology and Sociology at Paris Diderot University in 2008-2009. The paper describes the gradual process of changes associated with the opening of the labor market to Polish immigrants in France and its impact on adaptation strategies of Poles taking up unauthorised employment. The first part of the article analyses Poles’ immigration in the context of selected aspects of employment in France. In the second part, examples of immigrant strategies show how the adaptation processes have evolved over several years. The paper also describes how competition arises on the labor market of unauthorised work and the ethnicisation of social roles. The third, major part, analyses the role of social networks in the context of an access to the labor market under different systems of recruitment. This part also presents the case of Kolbuszowa – and the phenomenon of integration or exclusion of new members of this immigrant community among which migration networks have developed. The transition from the gray area to the legal labour force is analyzed in terms of labour context impact and the position of an immigrant in a given community.

Opis:
The paper presents the results of a research project “Global study of the politicization of social networks.” According to the author, undermining the citizens’ trust in democratic institutions such as the parliament and political parties in various states leads not only to visible consequences – political absenteeism and social escapism, but also provokes a deeper process of the rapid politicization of Internet social networks. A content analysis of political discourse has been selected as the academic metho dology. The project has shown that in countries of various regions – from Europe to Latin America – there are pro-government, opposition, and moderately radical network communities. It is concluded that the politicization of modern networks is more conducive to the archaization and radicalization of social relations than strengthening the legitimacy of democratic regimes and constructive dialogue with the government of society. The most politicized social networks are Facebook and Twitter.

Social Networking Sites (SNS) such as Facebook (FB) are currently highly used by students because technology has the potential to become a valuable resource to support their educational communications and collaborations. This paper attempts to present a comprehensive picture of what has been investigated in terms of the use of Facebook as an online English language-learning environment and inquires whether this learning model can enhance students’ learning of English. It also aims to explore the students’ perceptions towards learning English in the Facebook context following four treatments, language improvement, confidence, motivation and attitude. The sample who participated in the study was N=65, in the department of English language and translation enrolled in a B.A program. Findings revealed that the EFL students believe that FB as an online learning environment facilitates, supports, and encourages their English language learning. In addition, the findings indicate that students’ motivation and confidence towards English language learning improved via FB. The study also revealed that students had a positive attitude towards this learning model. In light of the findings of the study, it is recommended that TEFL teachers should plan learning classes that use SNS such as Facebook as a learning platform.

One of the most important effects of decolonization is the instability of the post-colonial political systems, which entails another, far-reaching consequences. These include deep economic problems, inhibiting growth and widening disparities between the northern and southern part of the globe. These disparities are reflected clearly on the African continent. Experiences a particularly important problem - rapid urbanization, with serious economic and social consequences. Expanding the city, and especially its suburbs, the areas inhabited by people with very low incomes, hence the quality of life in these areas is extremely low. The problem becomes to satisfy their basic human rights, such as access to education, health care and clean water. Welfare system does not exist, and clan traditions that replace it, were superseded by the Western European model of urban life - atomization, focus on obtaining a livelihood for his own family, competition. Regardless of the African region, similar problems exist in almost all major cities in its area.

The article shows that in crisis management, risks can be effectively analysed and managed by rational use of mathematical and technical methods. It presents two quantitative methods for risk assessment and a procedure for transferring the results to logistical social networks (LSNs). The need to use social logistical networks, where modern techniques can be applied, including the Internet of Things (IoT) or Machine-to-Machine (M2M) communication, enabling the collection of any amount of data to logistical social networks, is indicated. The article stresses that research on public crisis management must be interdisciplinary in nature, taking into account all aspects of security management, including social, technical and economic issues. Modern methods of assessing the state and risk of a crisis situation of individual elements of the systems generate an increasing number of data, the collection, collection, processing and sharing of which requires ensuring information security and protecting the personal freedom of the individual.

Scholarly collaboration is relatively well described quantitatively on the macro level thanks to the analyses of large bibliographic databases. At the same time, there are known limitations of the bibliometric approaches to studying collaboration in science. We argue that in order to improve our understanding of social processes operating in science it is necessary to take a more in-depth look: (1) identify kinds of actors that are recognized as potential partners in collaboration, (2) what features of collaborative relations are considered crucial for engaged actors, (3) what kinds of structures of networks composed of collaboration relations actors are embedded in, and what PSR202-02factors influence these structures. With 30 individual in-depth interviews (IDI) with Polish scholars we gathered detailed information about individual collaborations that allowed us to analyze collaborative ties from individual perspective and map respondent-centered networks of collaboration. Scholars identify individuals as well as teams or institutions as collaborators. They also distinguish symmetric and asymmetric collaborations. Structures of respondent-centered collaboration networks are affected by (a) leadership strategies of team principals (especially whether teams are built around positions or individuals); (b) institutional location (by making establishing external collaborations easier for scientists from bigger institutions); (c) scientific degree and recent changes in financing of science (as young scientists receive more freedom from usual organizational hierarchies by receiving substantial grants).

Child migrants are one of the risk factors of the modern education system in Russia. In addition to the potential problems associated with the cultural differences between the indigenous population and migrants, there is also the problem of “closed” migrants. Often migrants and their families, including secondand third-generation migrants, form isolated communities within which the adaptation and socialization of new migrants and the generation of youth takes place. On the one hand, these groups play the role of “softadaptation”, when migrants and their children are offered the tested models of behavior in the new conditions of life. On the other hand, not all the models proposed by the group can be acceptable by the traditions of the indigenous population, and sometimes they are opposed to the culture and traditions of the host country. Moreover, the views accepted in the group can cause morbid socialization of migrants. Under these conditions, the school has a task of preventing the negative impact of the isolated national groups on the younger generation. The purpose of the study is to analyze the account of migrant children in social networks in order to identify signs of socio-psychological and cultural adaptation, to determine the influence of national groups and communities in social networks on the formation of a person’s personality. The paper covers the reactions of children to publications on the topic of interethnic communication. It also includes recommendations to teachers on the definition of exposure to the influence of groups and communities in the social networks of migrant children.

Altmetrics, as a new scientometric measure, shows the scholarly impact of a scientist and her/his social activity on social networking platforms. We analysed communication on ResearchGate within the group formed by Nicolaus Copernicus University different domains researchers. They share interest in information visualisation and form local collaboration team. We considered two compositions of research sample: the original team and the nearest collaborators. The common attributes of RG users such as coauthorship, skills set, topics, and ascribed domains were analysed. Based on these units, we carry out the sociographs to reveal social structure dynamics. Domain analysis was performed by the use of the PCA – the method which is able to extract the most essential factors from the variables set. The results indicate a good coincidence for these two approaches: collaboration between researchers and their skills development can significantly change their major. We strived to show that RG is a space of interdisciplinary training in building and identifying their own field research based on full text. Thus RG is a proper tool for crossdisciplinary qualitative analysis. Altmetrics and visualisation are mutually substituted and complemented devices, perceived as new tools for team science study. This requires, nevertheless, not only the use of appropriate tools, but also collecting a large dataset on global scientific activity within multidisciplinary groups.

We also introduce new models of propagation and show how they fit into the general picture. In particular, we focus on models that capture either positive or negative effects of resisting influence on individual’s future resistance.

The term political culture involves a wide range of contexts and evokes a different spectrum of ideas, opinions, and definitions. Nowadays, perhaps slightly more than ever, we encounter views and statements that refer to the low level of political culture in our country. Many times, these are declarations that apply not only to specific political parties or politicians, but also to citizens, or even to the entire nation, which is (often by itself) described as having no political culture. And this notion, unfortunately, also harmfully affects the formation of our national identity as such; how we perceive ourselves, what patterns we adopt, and what standards we accept. In our paper, we focus on the culture of the Slovak political communication, while paying special attention to the linguistic utterances of selected representatives of the Slovak political scene. In this context, the language will act as a tool for communication between political representatives themselves, between political officials and citizens, but also as a tool of discussion on politics among people.

Negative debt experiences of individuals lead to costly social and macroeconomic tensions. This study examines the impact of four latent variables, namely financial education, debt literacy, personality, and online personal network, on the debt experience of Facebook users in Poland (N = 1,055). Based on some prior research, we proposed a Structural Equations Model (SEM) testing the relationships among variables hypothesised to be linked to debt experience. The findings indicate that debt experience is a complex phenomenon determined simultaneously by many diverse factors. Surprisingly, the personal networks of Facebook users have no significant impact on the debt experience of our respondents. The findings also suggest that results of any explanatory study on debt experiences may strongly depend on the measures used.

I end with the summary which refers to the social network categories.

Parkinson's Disease (PD) is the second most common neurodegenerative disease. Symptoms relate to the movement and cognitive sphere; they have a negative impact on the quality of life of people suffering from PD. Pharmacotherapy and rehabilitation slow the progression of the disease. The aim of the work was to determine the impact of physical rehabilitation on the level of social relations in the context of the quality of life of people with PD. 47 people with idiopathic PD were involved in the study, all were in the second stage of the disease according to the Hoehn & Yahr scale. The Courage Social Network Index (CSNI) was used to assess social relations. The scales: Quality of Life in Parkinson’s Disease 39 (PDQ-39), Medical Outcomes Study 36-item Short-Form Heath Survey (SF-36) and Parkinson’s Disease Quality of Life Questionnaire (PDQL) were applied in order to evaluate the quality of life of patients The subjects were divided into two groups: research and control. The research group took part in a rehabilitation program two times a week for 45 minutes for three months. The control group did not participate in any form of physical rehabilitation. The results of the research showed a significantly higher level of social bonds as well as quality of life of people with PD participating in physical rehabilitation. At the same time, a higher level of correlation between the level of social bonds and the level of quality of life was found in the research group. Therefore, the positive impact of physical rehabilitation on the level of social bonds and the quality of life of people with PD constituted the conclusion of the work.

This study examines the effect of storytelling through the use of Telegram on oral language of English foreign language (EFL) students. To this end, thirty English students aged 18 to 21 took part in the research. Before the treatment, they were interviewed by two instructors and were graded as low-proficient speakers of English. The selected participants were assigned randomly into two homogeneous groups of control (n=15) and experimental (n=15). The instructor taught four stories to both groups through the online class. The participants of the experimental group were supposed to summarize the retold stories while the participants of the control group answered the comprehension questions of the stories. All the participants were to record their voices and share them in their groups and their peers were supposed to listen to the speaker and post their comments. After the treatment, two instructors interviewed all the participants. The results of the comparison of the first and the second interview confirmed the positive effect of storytelling and answering the questions on the Telegram. The findings of this study may help the learners to enhance their English speaking skills.

Sociologists traditionally focus on the power of socio-economic variables as drivers of aesthetic tastes and cultural practices, leaving other important factors outside the purview of analysis. As a remedy, this article makes use of recent progress at the intersection of the sociology of culture and network theory to show that individual interest in and preferences for art are also embedded in social relationships of a different kind. Data from a specially designed survey on personal networks and cultural tastes in Polish society is analyzed. Cultural taste is measured in detail by presenting respondents with ten color illustrations depicting different styles of visual art. These ten evaluations are then reduced to two significant dimensions (traditional vs. more modern art). The regressions analyses show distinct relations of network characteristics (such as heterogeneity, type of contacts, density, or associational membership) with the type of art preferred. The findings are interpreted in terms of social influence and affinity between cultural orientations (e.g., openness) and the manners in which social ties are developed and maintained. Additionally, the article sheds light on distinction patterns by arguing that status is claimed through specific (modern) preferences.

Along with the aging of the Polish society the interest of various disciplines in the elderly people life quality is growing. Researchers have different perceptions about quality of life. They define the concept of quality of life both subjectively, as an evaluation standard of life, and objectively, as a sum of various forms of the capital that have seniors at their disposal. In this article the author attempts to present the issue of the quality of life of seniors in the context of social and symbolic capital of older people. The considerations are supplemented with two empirical illustrations.

Aim. This article presents an ethnographic exploration of technology use among migrants. The main question explored is how migration processes are mediated by communication between migrants and their support network, considering the role of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs). Methods. Multi-situated and virtual ethnography have allowed researchers to access and obtain relevant discourse on the experiences, perceptions, and strategies of migrants in a non-invasive way. Results. In pre-digital contexts, support networks of friends and family provided sources of information in the development of migration projects. With the spread of technology, Facebook’s virtual communities are a means of facilitating migration strategies. Likewise, ICTs bring migrants and their families closer to the “there”, bolstering their bonding social capital and therefore their emotional well-being. Despite the language barriers, and the stereotypes and prejudices held by native-born residents, virtual social networks allow migrants to strengthen their bridging social capital, facilitating the integration of different Latin American migrant groups in the destination society. Conclusion. Today, ICTs have transformed migration strategies and expanded bonding social capital, allowing migrants to share common interests with their family setting, despite the distance. Limited interaction between migrants and native-born residents restricts bridging social capital, but the virtual sphere allows the Latin American diaspora to pursue common interests and overcome cultural barriers.

The article reveals the idea that popularity of social networking sites has increased at astonishing levels. There is no arguing the usefulness of sites such as Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. They can be used for professional networking and job searches, as a means to increase sales revenue, as a tool to keep the public informed of safety and other issues or as a way to reconnect with friends from way-back-when. Social networking has changed the way we interact with friends and associates. While social networks, like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, FourSquare, and Google+, play a significant role in our lives, they are also a high risk for security threats. With hundreds of millions of users online, these tools not only attract friends and family wanting to stay in touch, but they also attract people wanting to know about you for the wrong reasons. Be aware of the security threats currently out there to help you stay safe online. In Europe, concerns about privacy linked to security are particularly acute, as evidenced by proposals for a new cyber security directive that link privacy and security. The proposals aim to impose EU-wide reporting requirements on companies that run large databases, including social networking firms. Although the final wording of the directive remains to be seen, the proposals are a good indication of just how seriously European authorities view data security breaches

This work presents evidence supporting the relationship between the dual aspect of moral competence (emotion and cognition) and social networks in school settings. We conducted empirical research with 160 students from various disciplines of the social sciences and different cohorts in two Brazilian public universities. Firstly, the participants responded to Georg Lind’s Moral Competence Test (MCT-xt). Following this, a sociometric generator regarding relationships of friendship and collaboration in social networks was applied, and several Exponential Random Graphs Models (ERGMs), with the MCT-xt score as an exogenous effect and predictor of these relationships, were utilized. We also used a Crisp-Set Qualitative Comparative Analysis in order to determine if the cohorts, where the average MCT-xt was associated with the interactional structure, obeyed the same causal configuration. There exist two conditional configurations: (1) a sufficient score of MCT-xt in a social network with homogeneous status encourages a proactive search of collaboration; (2) an insufficient score of MCT-xt in a social network with homogeneous status encourages a collaborative exchange based on the popularity of some individuals. This work reveals how to interpret, at the grouping level, the results of MCT-xt.

Man is by nature a social being - he fulfils himself in relations with others. He cannot fully develop as a human being – and therefore intellectually, morally, creatively – without a community. In this respect, the issue of “community” was discussed in the message prepared by Pope Francis for the 53rd World Communications Day: “We are members one of another” (Eph 4,25). From social network communities to the human community (2019). In this document, the Pope referred to the culture-forming role of the media. Among the general observations, there were valuable educational inspirations. In Francis’ opinion, one can truly be a human, a person, only by maintaining relationships with others, turning his face towards others. Therefore, the measure of virtual communities is a relationship based on the communion of people, where each one grows in his humanity and genuinely humanizes himself through meeting others.

Opis:
Since entrepreneurship plays an important role in economy, especially in post-communist countries, it draws attention of researchers in the social sciences. Different determinants of becoming an entrepreneur have been already described, including background characteristics, personal motivations and attitudes, and liquid assets. This paper examines the role of social resources-family and friends with entrepreneurial experience-as well as financial resources, in shaping future entrepreneur in Poland in an advanced stage of economic transition to a market economy. The analyses are based on the Polish Panel Survey POLPAN, focusing on the period 1993– 2013. The results show that originating from an entrepreneurial family has a paramount importance on running a company in the future. Also the fact of being surrounded by entrepreneurial friends in 1993 and being able of acquiring even a modest investment capital at that time are significant for becoming an entrepreneur 5, 10, 15 or 20 years later. The analyses of combined effects of independent variables show that social resources influence career choices much stronger than potential financial resources. A person who had an entrepreneurial father and was surrounded by entrepreneurial friends in 1993 might have been even six times more likely to become an entrepreneur in the course of the next two decades; the effect of financial resources is weaker.

The relevance of the study is due to the fact that the influence of the Internet and media resources is growing and there is a tendency to develop virtual personalities that have little to do with reality and show the features of an antisocial person. In this regard, this article is aimed at identifying aspects and characteristics of a network personality that is influenced by modern media resources. The leading methods of studying this problem are methods of analysis, deduction and classification, which will help to recognize the most basic aspects of the figurative-visual transformation of a person on the Internet, show the results of the influence of social networks on a person and demonstrate the changes that a person is exposed to in the Internet space. The article reveals and substantiates the features and aspects that are distinctive for an individual in the Internet society, negative and positive characteristics of Internet users. The author substantiates the daily interactivity of social media. Also, the most relevant and influential forms of network interaction are shown and the frequency of their use is analysed. The materials of the article are of practical value for students, teenagers, youth, parents, future teachers who should know the aspect of the manifestation of personality transformation in the Internet space.

The paper investigates the mechanisms behind the formation and maintenance of those migrants’ social ties which translate into a particular composition of the network and become a source of social capital. Based on a number of in-depth interviews with Ukrainian migrants in Warsaw, we find that Ukrainian migrants’ networks are based primarily on ties homogenous in regard to nationality, level of education and character of work. The institutional context of social interaction determines with whom migrants form relations and whether these ties become a source of social advancement. The studied migrants do form bridging ties with more experienced, as well as socially and legally embedded persons, mainly other migrants, receiving both instrumental and emotional support.

CouchSurfi ng service (couch-surfi ng.org) allows users to leave short texts where the experience of hosting/being hosted by a CS member is described, is an evaluation of the CS members of each other’s personal traits, skills and common experience. Therefore references can become a good instrument for portraying a CouchSurfi ng member and understanding his or her particular traits. Refe-rences form an important part of a user’s virtual identity in the network. Using a sample of references of Spanish CouchSurfi ng users, the research established main characteristics of the references, which are the openness, readiness to share ideas and experiences and trustworthi-ness. These concepts illustrate the typical traits associated with a user of the network and also shed light on the activities common during offl ine CS meetings

This paper illustrates a methodological approach to the design of an annotated corpus using a case study of phonetic convergences and divergences by multilingual speakers in southwestern Senegal’s Casamance region. The newly compiled corpus contains approximately 183,000 annotations of multilingual, spoken data, gathered by eight researchers over a ten year span using methods ranging from structured lexical elicitation in controlled contexts to naturally occurring, multilingual conversations. The area from which the data were collected consists of three villages and their primary languages, and yet many more contribute to the linguistic landscape. Detailed metadata inform analyses of variation, the context in which a speech act took place and between whom, the speakers’ linguistic repertoires, trajectories, and social networks, as well as the larger language context. A potential path for convergence or divergence that emerged during data collection and in building and searching the corpus is the crossroads in the phonetic production of word-initial velar plosives. Word-initial [k] emerges in one language where only [ɡ] is present in the other; the third utilizes both. The corpus design makes it feasible, not only to identify areas of accommodation, but to grasp the context, enabling a sociolinguistically informed analysis of the speakers’ linguistic behavior.
