Opis:: Purpose: The increasing internationalization of markets make the creation of competitive advantages more difficult. Companies have to be faster, better and more economical than their competitors in order to survive. Reliable products offer the capability to develop competitive advantages. To achieve the reliability objectives, a systematic approach of reliability actions and supporting methods is necessary. The integration of reliability activities into companies with regard to company size and industry has not been quantitatively determined. Methodology: An international survey drawing upon literature was applied. Evaluations are based on descriptive and inductive statistics. Results: The empirical study reveals reasons for applying reliability management in industry, the extent of applied reliability methods and performed reliability actions to achieve reliability objectives and used reliability data. The results are differentiated according to company size and industry. Research implications: The results of this study are applicable to companies which have already dealt with reliability issues. Further studies should consider a cross-section status of reliability implementation in industry, as well as they should contain extended actions and methods of reliability. Value of paper: This research relates to the status of reliability management implementation in international industry. There are shown significant differences in industries and company size. The results show potentials in reliability management and can be used as benchmark.

Opis:: In this work, algorithms have been used to compare the reliability measure of helicopter structure critical points. Reliability index, Cornell’s reliability index and Hasofer-Lind’s reliability index have been calculated and analysed. Inputs to the algorithms, stress and strength were generated by using the Markov chain model based on actual flight records of helicopters. With this approach, results of methods for determining the reliability of critical points of a helicopter’s structure are properly founded.

Opis:: The paper is composed of two parts, in this part the multi-state homogeneous „m out of n” systems with reserve components are defined and their multi-state limit reliability functions are determined. In order to improve of the reliability of these systems the following methods are used: (i) a warm duplication of components, (ii) a cold duplication of components, (iii) a mixed duplication of components, (iv) improving the reliability of components by reducing their failure rate. Next, the effects of the systems’ reliability different improvements are compared.

This article presents an attempt of synthesis methods for human reliability assessment and methods for the assessment of the reliability of a technical object in the man-machine system. The paper presents indicators of human reliability proposed by psychologists as measures of the probability of human error-free operation. Also presented a proposal to take into account indicators of human reliability in determining the reliability of the human-machine system using mathematical description used in the theory of technical reliability.

Opis:: In the paper the basic notions of the ageing multistate systems reliability analysis are introduced. The multistate system reliability functions are defined and the mean values of the multistate system lifetimes in the reliability state subsets and in the particular reliability states are determined. The notion of the multistate system risk function and the moment of the system exceeding the critical reliability state are introduced. Further, in the developed reliability models, it is assumed that the system’s components have the multistate Weibull reliability functions with various parameters in their different reliability state subsets. Under this assumption, the proposed multistate system reliability models are applied in maritime transport to the reliability analysis of a bulk cargo transportation system and its reliability function, moreover other main characteristics are determined.

Opis:: The paper presents the results of examination of the proposal content and the scope of maintenance of the machining center MCFV 1050 Basic through the RCM II - Reliability Centered Maintenance method. Based on the analysis of apriori and parametric reliability methods, it was decided to use the FMEA for analyze the causes and consequences of failure states using the software IQ-RM PRO 6. The structure, defined functions and fault functions were developed.The analyzed types of failure and types of maintenance tasks were processed in the RCM II Information and Decision Making Reports.The result is 10 proposed maintenance tasks performed in time intervals, 8 maintenance tasks performed as needed and 1 maintenance task performed after the specified performance.The end of the article discusses the suitability of the applied methods for the maintenance proposal and of the defined recommendations.

Opis:: Basic notions and agreements on reliability of three-dimensional nanosystems are introduced. The asymptotic approach to the three-dimensional nanosystem reliability investigation is presented and the nanosystem limit reliability function is defined. Auxiliary theorems on limit reliability functions of three-dimensional nanosystems composed of large number of independent nanocomponents are formulated and the classes of limit reliability functions for a homogeneous series and series-parallel nanosystems are fixed. A model of a three-dimensional series and series-parallel nanosystem with dependent nanocomponents is created and the class of limit reliability functions identical with the class in the previous case is fixed as well. The asymptotic approach to reliability evaluation of exemplary three-dimensonal series and series-parallel nanosystem with dependent nanocomponents is presented and its accuracy is discussed.

Opis:: The paper is concerned with the application of limit reliability functions to the reliability evaluation of large systems. Two-state large non-repaired systems composed of independent components are considered. The asymptotic approach to the system reliability investigation and the system limit reliability function are defined. Two-state homogeneous series, parallel and series-parallel systems are defined and their exact reliability functions are determined. The classes of limit reliability functions of these systems are presented. The results of the investigation concerned with domains of attraction for the limit reliability functions of the considered systems and the investigation concerned with the reliability of large hierarchical systems as well are discussed in the paper. The paper contains exemplary applications of the presented facts to the reliability evaluation of large technical systems.

Opis:: Context-aware processing is a part of intensively developed ubiquitous computing andmobile systems. Surrounding awareness is used to introduce new functions and solutions. Some categories of the context data are taken for security purposes in the context-aware security implementations.This kind of data has to meet some conditions since it is used for decision making about security mechanisms adaptation and configuration. One of these conditions is reliability. The paper presents vector approach to context data reliability assessment introducing mechanism which allows to assess reliability parameters for further usage in context aware security processing. The following aspects of the context data are taken into account: interface reliability, data quality, data source reliability and security level. Introducing reliability metric for context data may be beneficial to other mechanisms which utilize context data. The vector form of reliability may be even more flexible than the scalar value.

Opis:: An approach to estimate the number of errors encountered during the program testing process is proposed in the paper. Considerations are based on some program reliability growth model which is constructed for assumed scheme of program testing process. In this model the program under the testing is characterized by means of so-called characteristic matrix and the program testing process is determined by means of so-called testing strategy. The formula for determining the mean value of the predicted number of errors encountered during the program testing is obtained. This formula can be used if the characteristic matrix and the testing strategy are known. Formula for estimating this value when the program characteristic matrix is not known are also proposed in the paper.

Opis:: The present work deals with the exploration of a new model proposed for the reliability analysis of industrial production systems. This proposed model is mainly based on the tangent hyperbolic function, where the survival function is determined and used in the lifetime distribution modeling taking into account of estimation the parameters of the proposed function. On the other side, tests validation is performed using the real data of a gas turbine installation. The obtained results allow the modeling of damage effects, hence the prediction of the performance of the examined gas turbine using the proposed model gives good results in terms of validity.

Opis:: Recent approach of Neural Network can be applied to solve a wide range of optimization problems. This paper deals with reliability, non-reliability and profit analysis of a paper plant. The objective of this paper is to compute profit of paper plant using neural network Algorithm and to analyze the availability of the system. The system is divided into four main subsystems. A multi-layered neural network model is used in order to optimize the maintenance of the paper plant system. The system may fail due to hardware failure with human errors and various environmental conditions. All types of failures, repairs and waiting rates are exponential. System state probabilities and other parameters are developed for the proposed model using neural network approach. Numerical examples are included to demonstrate the results.

Opis:: In the fast growing, competitive global market and dynamic environments, we not only depend upon the continued functioning of a wide array of complex machinery and equipment of our everyday safety, security, mobility and economic welfare but also expect our electric appliances, automobile, transportation stations and data exchange systems to perform and perform well wherever and whenever we need them in order to survive. Such expectation is seldom realistic since it eventually breaks down, particularly when the system (or product) nowadays is operating in a complex random operating environment. Strong warranties are becoming more useful tactics for developers to attract potential customers especially due to the slowing economy. This talk discusses the research challenges and trends, and the reflections of the perception between the warranty, the reliability and the systemability.

Opis:: Since its introduction the Automatic Identification System (AIS) has played an important part in improving safety at sea, making bridge watchkeeping duties more comfortable and enhancing vessel traffic management ashore. However the analysis of a AIS data set describing the vessel traffic of the Baltic Sea came to conclusion, that specific parameters with relevance to navigation seemed to be defective or implausible. Essentially, it concerned the true heading (THDG) and the rate of turn (ROT) parameters. With the paper we are trying to clarify, which parameters of the AIS position report and to what extent, are affected. The detailed data analysis gives answers on how reliable the AIS data in different traffic areas is.

Opis:: Afghan highlands, landscape and altitude above the sea level, and geographical situation influence on the climate. Engines’ operation are very different from their work in European plains. Mountainous terrain variability has a significant impact on operation mode of the car’s chassis and transmission, and climate change determines the engine performance parameters. Mentioned factors result in technical performance characteristics and their costs. Defining requirements to preventive measures for technical failure would reduce technical repair costs and rational technical maintenance frequency would save funds for maintenance.
