Opis:
This paper deals with the experimental and numerical analysis of three-point bending phenomenon on beam composite profiles. Flat rectangular test specimens made of carbon–epoxy composite, characterised by symmetric [0/90/0/90]s laminate ply lay-up, were used in this study. Experimental testing was carried out with a COMETECH universal testing machine, using special three-point bending heads. In addition, macroscopic evaluation was performed experimentally using a KEYENCE Digital Microscope with a mobile head recording real-time images. Parallel to the experimental studies, numerical simulations were performed using the finite element method in ABAQUS software. The application of the above-mentioned interdisciplinary research techniques allowed for a thorough analysis of the phenomenon of failure of the composite material subjected to bending. The obtained research results provided a better understanding of the failure mechanism of the composite material.

This paper describes the technology for the production of precursors (space holder material) used to form the complex internal structure of cast metal foam. The precursor material must exhibit sufficient refractoriness, resist contact with liquid metal and at the same time should exhibit good collapsibility after casting. With regard to the greening of foundry production, the focus of this paper was on materials that could exhibit the above properties and at the same time do not have a negative impact on the environment. In this paper, the technology for the production of spherical precursors from a self-hardening mixture with a geopolymer-based binder system is described and verified. The motivation for the choice of material and all the sub-steps of the process - molding into the core box, tumbling, including the necessary accompanying tests of the mechanical properties of the core mixture being verified - are described.

This paper is devoted to the behavior of a non-homogeneous simply supported beam under three-point bending. The individual shear deformation function of a planar cross-section is adopted, and longitudinal displacements, strains, and stresses for two parts of the beam are explained. By applying the principle of stationary potential energy, a system of two differential equations of equilibrium is derived and solved analytically. The positions of the neutral axis, shear coefficients, and deflections are then calculated for three different beam families. Additionally, the bending problem of these beams is studied numerically using the finite element method (FEM). The results of both analytical and numerical calculations are presented in tables and figures. The main contribution of this paper lies in the development of an analytical model incorporating the individual shear deformation function and a numerical FEM model for this beam.

This research aimed to explore the influence of fiber laying angles on the bending resistance properties of carbon fiber/foam sandwich structural composites. Four kinds of composites with the following laying angles: [0°]8, [0°/45°/90°/-45°]s, [0°/90°]4 and [45°/-45°]4 were prepared and tested in three-point bending experiments. The results obtained showed that the bending resistance performance was the best when the laying angle was [0°]8, while it was the worst when the laying angle was [45°/-45°]4. Besides, it was found that the tensile performance was the best when the fibers were arranged in the 0° direction when the strength utilisation rate was the highest. In addition, by observing the failure morphologies of the composites, the delamination and foam cracking were found in the four groups of composites. In contrast, the phenomenon of significant fracture was found on composites with a laying angle of [45°/-45°]4 only, indicating it had a poor bending resistance performance.

Filleting four corners of square tubes is suggested to reduce the peak force and improve energy absorbing performance. Three-point bending tests are conducted to investigate fillet radius effects employing an ABAQUS explicit code. Three cases characterized by the ratio of width to thickness are considered. Fillet greatly reduces the maximum forces compared with square cross-sections, and the normalized maximum forces decrease with increasing wall thickness when the fillet radius is larger. Additionally, the fillet dramatically improves SEA (Specific Energy Absorption). The normalized CFE (Crash Load Efficiency) significantly exceeds that of the square ones, and the normalized CLEs are almost identical with the increasing fillet radius.

Opis:
Engineering rocks are easily affected by excavation unloading and are in uniaxial compres- sion or tension, forming a typical I-type tension crack. Anchor rods are often used for on-site support to ensure safety and reliability of the project. The study of propagation and pen- etration of type I tension cracks and quantitative evaluation of rock anchoring effects are of great significance for exploring mechanical properties of rock fracture and revealing the mechanism of rock failure. In this paper, combined with speckle light measurement, a rock fracture toughness test of different anchoring positions and pre-tightening forces is carried out, the deformation evolution law of the crack tip and the fracture mechanics characteris- tics of the anchored rock are obtained, and the anchoring strengthening mechanism of the rock is discussed based on the theory of the net stress intensity factor. The research shows that the rock fracture process is divided into four stages: elastic deformation, steady crack propagation, crack instability propagation and residual deformation. After anchoring, the time of crack instability growth can be prolonged by 172% and the final residual deformation can be increased by 148%. Compared with the unanchored rock, the fracture toughness of rock initiation and instability increased by 83% and 124% respectively, and increased with growth of the pre-tightening force, which shows that the bolt increases the critical value of rock initiation and instability to achieve the toughening effect. After the rock is anchored, the time required for the crack to propagate to the same length increases by 55%, and the lateral deformation area is reduced by 46%, indicating that the lateral closing force of the bolt inhibits crack propagation and delays the instability of the rock matrix.

Opis:
The paper presents the results of experimental tests on the reinforcement of bent laminated veneer lumber beams with carbon fibre reinforced polymer (CFRP) strips glued to the bottom of elements. CFRP strips (1.4×43×2800 mm) were glued to the beams by means of epoxy resin. The tests were performed on full-size components with nominal dimensions of 45×200×3400 mm. Static bending tests were performed in a static scheme of the so-called four-point bending. The increase in the load bearing capacity of the reinforced elements (maximum bending moment and loading force) was 38% when compared to reference beams. A similar increase was noted in relation to the deflection of the elements at maximum loading force. For the global stiffness coefficient in bending, the increase for reinforced beams was 21%. There was a change in the way elements were destroyed from brittle, sudden destruction for reference beams resulting from the exhaustion of tensile strength to more ductile destruction initiated in the compressive zone for reinforced beams. The presented method can be applied to existing structures.
W pracy przedstawiono wyniki badań eksperymentalnych dotyczących wzmacniania zginanych belek z forniru klejonego warstwowo za pomocą taśm węglowych (CFRP) przyklejanych do powierzchni dolnej elementów. Taśmy CFRP, o wymiarach 1,4×43×2800 mm, przyklejone zostały za pomocą żywicy epoksydowej. Badania przeprowadzono na elementach pełnowymiarowych o wymiarach nominalnych 45×200×3400 mm. Belki obciążano symetrycznie dwoma siłami skupionymi do zniszczenia. 3. Przedstawiony sposób wzmocnienia może zostać zastosowany w przypadku konstrukcji istniejących. Taśmy przyklejone zostały pomiędzy punktami podparcia elementów w części przęsłowej belki. 4. Belki referencyjne ulegały zniszczeniu na skutek wyczerpania nośności w strefie rozciąganej. W przypadku belek wzmocnionych inicjacja zniszczenia następowała w strefie ściskanej. Propagacja pęknięcia w dwóch przypadkach wywołała odspojenie taśmy CFRP oraz pękniecie w strefie rozciąganej. Taśmy CFRP pomimo odspojenia nie ulegały zniszczeniu.

Opis:
Measuring and calculating methods of critical stress intensity factors (SIFs) have become hot topics which attracted large attention recently. In this work, anti-symmetrical four-point bending tests of cracked fine-grained concrete specimens were conducted experimentally and numerically by using a computer-controlled universal testing machine and ABAQUS code. A comparative study of the calculation method of pure mode II stress intensity factor of a fine-grained concrete was performed by utilizing the conventional finite element method (FEM) in two and three dimensions as well as the extended finite element method (XFEM) in three dimensions. The results show that in three-dimensional models, the crack mode is closest to the pure mode II at the center of specimen thickness. Pure mode II stress intensity factors obtained by SEAM2D and XFEM3D are 1.013 and 1.0617 times that by SEAM3D, respectively. Pure mode II stress intensity factors of the fine-grained concrete obtained by the conventional FEM are more stable than that by XFEM. The number of mesh circles has slight influence on the calculation results of pure mode II stress intensity factor.

Opis:
Laminated Aluminum Composite Structure (LACS) has shown great potential for replacing traditional bulk aluminum parts, due to its ability to maintain low manufacturing costs and create complex geometries. In this study, a LACS, that consists of 20 aluminum layers joined by a structural tape adhesive, was fabricated and tested to understand its impact performance. Three impact tests were conducted: axial drop, normal and transverse three-point bending drop tests. Numerical simulations were performed to predict the peak loads and failure modes during impacts. Material models with failure properties were used to simulate the cohesive failure, interfacial failure, and aluminum fracture. Various failure modes were observed experimentally (large plastic deformation, axial buckling, local wrinkling, aluminum fracture and delamination) and captured by simulations. Cross-section size of the axial drop model was varied to understand the LACS buckling direction and force response. For threepoint bending drop simulations, the mechanism causing the maximum plastic strain at various locations in the aluminum and adhesive layers was discussed. This study presents an insight to understand the axial and flexural responses under dynamic loading, and the failure modes in LACS. The developed simulation methodology can be used to predict the performance of LACS with more complex geometries.

Opis:
Three-point roll bending is one of the most common forming processes employed to obtain the desired radius of curvature in the sheet metal operations. Upon the removal of the forming load, the sheet metal deforms to a lesser extent than that of the required dimension. This phenomenon is termed as spring-back and is considered the most challenging areas of research in three-point roll bending of sheet metals. This study aims to develop a numerical model using HyperWorks and Radioss solver to understand the influence of load, the distance between the forming rollers, and its thickness on the spring-back effect in the course of three-point roll bending of sheet metal (AA5052). The results of the numerical model are validated with the results of the experimental trials. Besides, a statistical model is developed to relate the amount of spring-back with the three-point roll bending process parameters.

The aim of the research was to determine the effect of polyester-glass recyclate on the deflection of composite samples subjected to three-point bending. The polyester-glass recyclate was obtained from the part of the ship’s hull made of polyester-glass composite, constituting scrap metal. The pieces of scrap were pre-fragmented and then processed into a prepared stand for this purpose. Such a fragmented recycling will be used to make composites with different scrap / recycled content. For this purpose, research materials were made using the vacuum bag method with the percentage of 0%, 10% and 20% recyclate) as well as various granulation (i.e. 1.2 mm and 3.0 mm). The research material consisted of rectangular plates with a thickness corresponding to the thickness of the samples. The samples for testing were made by water cutting. The tests were carried out on a suitably prepared stand, which was made of a universal Zwick Roell testing machine and three-point bending handles and a dial indicator. The spacing of the supports has been determined in accordance with the binding standard for three-point bending. Obtained results from tests, i.e. strain, stress, deflection, deformation allowed analysing the impact of recyclate on bending strength and defining the deflection arrow. Based on the results obtained from three-point bending, it can be concluded that the polyester-glass recycling has an influence on the decrease of strength, stress and deflections of the tested composites.
