This paper explores selected aspects of sustainability and organizational paradigms. In a more simple interpretation: how can we benefit from accumulated experience, even when the situation and context of operation changes? First, interpretations of paradigms are discussed, and their importance are emphasized. It is argued that paradigms, in the “Kuhn” sense, can be regarded valid in the natural sciences. Yet it is questionable whether they apply to social sciences, or in our everyday life. A discussion of ‘paradigms’ may also deal with context when little remains constant (eg.business), and when theories are contingent upon circumstances. From such a perspective a discussion concerning the existence of classical ‘paradigms’ in organizational theory is conducted, including examples of how difficult it is for some “organizational paradigms” to disappear. This outline is followed by examples of newly created paradigms that revolutionize our life. These new paradigms bring glory and fortunes to their authors; yet the same was true of paradigms that were valid decades or centuries ago. There are also “life (or personal) paradigms”, relative to small issues, which mark somewhat a shift from the world of micro-economy, to daily reality. The specific importance of these micro rules is explored based on incident related to the scholarly achievements of Professor Wiesław Grudzewski.

The proposal to apply four paradigms from the social sciences to human resource management as presented in this article has significant consequences with respect to both the theory and practice of that discipline. Primarily, each of the paradigms is based on a different cognitive basis. Thus, a critique of the concept should be conducted from two points of view: that of the same paradigm and of another paradigm. The awareness of this multifariousness leads to a better understanding of seemingly 'unscientific' positions and concepts that operate on the foundations of another paradigm. Consideration of the same problem may be conducted on a basis of other paradigms, which invites the genesis of creative, if somewhat paradoxical, consequences for staff management.

W prezentowanym tekście uwagę poświęcono pojęciu i genezie paradygmatu, później ukazano typologie paradygmatów organizacji i zarządzania, a w następnie zostały one scharakteryzowane. Zwrócono uwagę, iż w badaniu kultury organizacyjnej mamy do czynienia z wielością paradygmatów. Pokazano, że rozwój nauk o zarządzaniu, podobnie jak rozwój innych dyscyplin naukowych wchodzących w skład różnych dziedzin nauki, jest nieodłącznie związany z powstaniem i ewaluowaniem nowych paradygmatów. Skoncentrowano się na propozycji macierzy paradygmatów opisanej przez Burrella i Morgana. Pokazano modyfikację nazewnictwa paradygmatów zaproponowaną przez Sułkowskiego. Podkreślono, że w stosunku do propozycji pierwotnej autorów z 1979 roku Sułkowski przekształcił nazwy paradygmatów, patrząc na klasyfikację paradygmatów z perspektywy historycznej, uwzględniającej rozwój nauk o zarządzaniu i pokrewnych nauk społecznych na przełomie XX i XXI wieku.
The work concentrates on the concept of paradigm in the management and organizational sciences. The genesis of the paradigms in these fields, their typology and characteristics are presented. The article points out that, in the study of organizational culture, we have to deal with the multiplicity of paradigms. As the management as well as other sciences develop new paradigms inevitably emerge. Particular attention was paid to the concept of matrix paradigms described by Burrell and Morgan, with its modification proposed by Sulkowski (the idea of naming paradigms). It was stressed that Sulkowski's concepts, in comparison to the originals from 1979, is a transformation that takes into account the historical perspective, including the development of management science and other social sciences at the turn of the twentieth and the twenty-first century.

The paper aims to reconstruct the concept of mutuality as a moral value in learning and to recognise meanings assigned to it by students of pedagogy. Showing the phenomenon of learning from the perspective of didactic paradigms – transformative, interpretative-constructive, and objective – makes it possible to observe a variety of forms and motifs of reciprocation in learning and to distinguish its several types as mutuality: general, balanced, forced, and absent. An analysis of 71 short essays describing instances of mutuality experienced by students in learning enables recognition of moral meanings assigned to it. To specify them, the following concepts of gratitude are introduced: altruistic, loyalty-grounded, enslaved, and atrophied. It follows from the analysis that the experiencing of transmission-based education in Polish schools hampers or precludes building up mutuality in learning.

Theoretical and practical benefits of late standardization (the example of Macedonian language)The author underlines the importance of the Macedonian language for the research of spontaneous linguistic evolution in the multiethnic and multilingual territories with the language of the administration foreign to the local linguistic communities. She analyzes both causes and results of the Macedonian processes of grammaticalization at the level of the noun phrase and at the sentential level and states that they concern information most important for successful communication and that they all lead to the transfer of the categorical formants from postposition to anteposition and – most often – from the morphological to the syntactic level. Praktyczne i teoretyczne plusy późnej standaryzacji (na przykładzie języka macedońskiego) Autorka wyjaśnia wyjątkowe znaczenie języka macedońskiego dla badań spontanicznej ewolucji języka w środowisku multietnicznym i multilingwalnym, w sytuacji, gdy język administracji jest obcy dla nosicieli lokalnych dialektów. Badaczka analizuje przyczyny i rezultaty procesów gramatykalizacji, charakterystycznych dla języka macedońskiego na poziomie grupy imiennej oraz na poziomie zdania. Stwierdza, że dotyczą one informacji kluczowej dla udanego przebiegu aktu komunikacji językowej oraz że sprowadzają się one na ogół do przerzucania formantów kategorialnych z postpozycji do prepozycji i – najczęściej – z poziomu morfologicznego na poziom syntaktyczny.

The purpose of this paper is to determine, which of the independent scientific disciplines dealing with issues related to the European Union offers the research approach most apt for constructing theories of European integration and whether the basic theoretical paradigms of this discipline are sufficient to construct them. In order to achieve this, the following four perspectives of scientific disciplines have been analysed: political sciences, law, economics and sociology. The results of these considerations indicate that political sciences has the greatest influence on shaping the theories of European integration. Next, in order to the decide, whether the basic theoretical paradigms of political sciences are sufficient to construct theories of European integration, such theories as federalism, functionalism and intergovernmental approach have been analysed. To conclude, it can be said that in the case of federalism and intergovernmental approach – they are, and in the case of functionalism they are not.

The author shortly presents a new paradigm of social research on multiculturality as called the postcolonial indigenous paradigm. He bases in this presentation on the book by Bagele Chilisa, professor at the University of Botswana who is researcher represented this paradigm and author of methodological monograph under the title Indigenous research methodologies (2012). Postcolonial indigenous paradigm is synergy and transgression of three known paradigms in social sciences as means: critical theory, constructive, and participative ones. The author asks for possibility of using postcolonial indigenous paradigm in social research on multiculturality in Poland. His answer to this question is an exemplification of research project concerning problems of the Roma education in Polish schools. He proposes looking for new political concepts and practical solutions of problems of multiculturality with regards to ideas of postcolonial indigenous paradigm.

This paper concerns itself with the interdisciplinary nature of academic didactics as a field of social sciences that uses knowledge and results derived from educational sciences, psychology, philosophy, sociology and didactics specific to particular subjects. It was pointed out that considerations on teaching practices in all scientific disciplines constitute another source of knowledge for the field of academic didactics. The diversity of theoretical and methodological approaches is determined by science-specific and discipline- specific research methodology paradigms, diversified teaching cultures dependent on environmental conditions as well as diversified teaching class patters for students that are often specific to an educational profile. The issue addressed in this paper is whether a single didactic paradigm exists that would unify approaches so different in terms of theory and practice. The paper provides a map of academic didactics paradigms, a description of difficulties related to paradigmatic translations as well as the lack of consent to the multiparadigm approach and issues with interferences and shifts between paradigms. Despite the existing difficulties, the suggestion is made to promote the complementary attitude to various approaches. It is supported by the concept of relations between the assumed academic didactics effects and teaching strategies that lead thereto, which are constituted by different teaching and learning patterns.

The main aim of the paper is to show that many previously forgotten discoveries within the field of neuroscience own their rediscovery and renaissance to the refinement of tools provided by the technological advances. Most spectacular is the advancement of brain imaging techniques, which provide hard data that support for evidence for previously neglected presumptions and ideas. Neuroplasticity is an example of such a long ignored historical discovery. One reason for that neglect is that it stood in contradiction to beliefs and theories prevailing at the first half of the twenties century. The idea of neuronal plasticity is not disputed any longer since it has found confirmation not only in a dramatic development of neuroimaging but also in the advancement of neurobiology. Most authors concentrate upon neuronal plasticity, recent studies, however, have produced a wealth of information regarding neurogenesis, in which astrocytes have proved to play a significant role. The significance of adult neurogenesis for learning and memory and for treatment of depression is outlined. Moreover, it was observed that neuroplasticity benefits patients suffering from obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) who undergo effective, evidence-based treatment. Convincing examples of brain plasticity brings also clinical practice, which often unveils the appearance of hitherto hidden artistic abilities in people who have suffered from brain damage. In addition, the possibilities of altering the brain functions by mental force alone are discussed. Thus, the paper reveals that many “controversial” ideas were confirmed by contemporary studies forcing changes in a traditional view on brain works.

This article represents the analysis of different aspects of the English verb such as: word building, degree of proximity, functional completeness and word building. This article presents the results of the analysis of the various types of the English ergative verbs, in particular: phrasal verbs, analytic constructions and minor ones. In the article the connections of the paradigmatic elements of the ergative field of the verbs and their syntagmatic features are investigated. Purpose. The purpose of this article is to establish the factors that affect the degree of functional closeness of the verbs in functional class and the completeness of their implementation inflectional paradigms, as well as inspection of the functional classification of the verbs and analyze text features of English verbs. The aim of our study is a more detailed study of the ergative verbs in such aspects as syntax and morphology. Methods. The methodology of this research is the comparative analysis of different linguists’ approaches to analyze the functional classes of English verbs, word building of their form, their degree of proximity and degree of functional completeness of implementation verbal paradigm. Distributive and functional analysis is used to research the degree of completeness and implementation of the verbal paradigms: the number of values morphemic structure, etymology and frequency of the verb usage. The research method is the analysis of the valence of the English ergative verbs semantics, distributive transformation and semantic-syntactic types of the analysis. Results. The significance of the functional verb classes’ establishment is the number of realized inflectional forms. The functional classes are represented as a result of the structural word creative verbal paradigms functioning patterns in the literature texts. The functional classes of the English verbs can be characterized by a certain structure. That includes three main components: a core, periphery and intermediate branch. Also, it is important to note that each functional class has a number of levels of the structure. These levels depend on the number of strong, medium and weak links between the verbs and it is called as functional degree of proximity. The functional proximity of the English verbs can be determined by the peculiarities of their functioning, such as the number of realized inflectional forms and its frequency. There are five main types of paradigms. The implementation of the interconnections between the elements within the field of the ergativeness in the English language takes place. These include the following: grammatical, lexical, semantic, nominative, and functional-semantic. Same features are characteristic of the depth ergativeness level of the languages in the ergative typology. These include the actants in the position of the non-transitive sentence subject and the actants of the transient sentence object. They have a patience character. This means that they have semantic-syntactic features of the objectivity and a carrier of the quality and condition.

The article is an attempt to reconstruct the image of Cieszyn Silesia contained in the works of Jan Szczepański. The author presents the most important elements of the image of Silesia (the Polish part of Silesia, i.e. the Silesian Voivodeship at that time) drawn by Szczepański in the interwar period, and the image of Cieszyn Silesia in the post-war period. In his opinion, the essence of Silesian reality is conflict and struggle. Treating Cieszyn Silesia as a borderland area with a strongly outlined cultural, religious (Protestant) and aesthetic distinctiveness, he argues about its Polishness, emphasizing that it is a misunderstood region in Poland. The author believes that in Jan Szczepański’s deliberations on Cieszyn Silesia, it is not possible to identify a clear “thinking style”, while Szczepański’s way of thinking about Cieszyn Silesia, despite its fragmentary nature and many understatements, is part of the two most important research paradigms identified in the sociology of Silesia: borderland and multiculturalism.

Within the realm of contemporary urban design theory and practice, a number of authors have conceptualised the trends and processes of city development and planning into a series of urbanisms. This discussion essay examines the overall tenets of the ‘ReUrbanism paradigm’, a paradigm that has long been present in city planning and development but has received limited analysis and criticism and has not gained a more integrated position within the professional and academic worlds. This paper continues a paradigm development outline, leaning on the characteristics of other urbanisms in order to develop and provide a frame of reference and to contribute to the ongoing build-up of taxonomies about the trajectory of contemporary urban design thought. Focusing on the American representative case of Detroit, the authors of this paper argue for a better understanding of this urban regeneration paradigm, which they characterise as a rational urban planning & design approach in the contemporary age of inner city renewal.

W artykule przedstawiono zależności między nurtami w modelowaniu marketingowym a ewolucją marketingu oraz problemy rozwoju czterech nurtów w budowie modeli marketingowych (deskryptywno-eksplanacyjnych, deskryptywno-predykcyjnych, relacyjno-eksplanacyjnych i relacyjno-deskryptywnych). Analizując nurty metodologiczne w budowie modeli marketingowych należy podkreślić, że w obszarze modelowania główne tendencje rozwojowe wynikają z przechodzenia od modeli eksplanacyjnych do predykcyjnych, a ewolucja kategorii badawczych w marketingu związana jest z silniejszym podkreśleniem roli zmiennych relacyjnych w stosunku do deskryptywnych. Artykuł ma charakter metodologiczny.
The aim of the paper is to present the relationship between trends in marketing modelling within marketing paradigms. In the area of modelling, the major trends arise from the transition from explanatory models to predictive ones and evolution of research in marketing is associated with stronger underline the role of relational variables in comparison to pure descriptive concepts. The paper outlines the problems of development of the four areas in marketing modelling (1/ descriptiveexplanatory, 2/ descriptive-predictive, 3/ relational- explanatory, and 4/ relationaldescriptive). The article is of the methodological nature.
В статье представили зависимости между руслами в маркетинговом моделировании и эволюцией маркетинга, а также проблемы развития четырех русел в построении маркетинговых моделей (дескриптивно-объясняющих, дескриптивно-прогностических, реляционно-объясняющих и реляционно-де- скриптивных). Анализируя методологические русла в построении маркетинговых моделей, следует подчеркнуть, что в области моделирования основные тенденции в развитии вытекают из перехода от объясняющих моделей к прогностическим, а эволюция исследовательских категорий в маркетинге связана с более сильным подчеркиванием роли реляционных переменных по отношению к дескриптивным. Статья имеет методологический характер.

The article relates to artistic creation of intellectually disabled people as an example of possible means of their emancipation. In this paper I claim that artistic creation of intellectually disabled people may constitute a tool of self-expression, and as a result be a way to realize the emancipatory paradigm in special education. I have illustrated my hypothesis with some poetry written by two women affected by Down syndrome whose creation is a conscious act of formulating an autonomous artistic message.

The author of this paper defines the aspectual paradigms of Russian verbs as such grammatical structures whose formal aspect is correlated with the conceptual one, therefore being its cognitive counterpart. With a view to analysing these paradigms he uses the theory of markedness as an analytic tool. According to it, the grammatical changes that occur in natural languages originate from general principles of naturalness which are typologically relevant. They result in morphological shifts that are linked to the verbalisation of Russian aspectual paradigms and allow to predict the direction of their development. In particular, the principle of natural grammatical development should be considered crucial. It means that the grammatical changes in natural languages cause elimination of marked elements, so that these more complex linguistic structues are replaced with less complex ones. Such a principle manifests an unconscious desire of language users to minimise their linguistic efforts, as it would place an additional burden on interpersonal communication.

The article deals with two types of reading research in Poland: quantitative, carried out by the National Library, and qualitative, made by the academic staff of the Faculty of Journalism, Information and Bibliology of the University of Warsaw, commissioned by the Centrum Cyfrowe Foundation. Their results are not analyzed. Interesting are the methods and goals of these research in a philosophical context – in the context of selected metatheses. An attempt is made here to indicate and briefly describe some of the paradigms of social sciences, which stand behind these research projects being different from each other in every aspect, but, however, regarding the same topic – reading.
Artykuł poddaje rozważaniom dwa rodzaje badań czytelnictwa w Polsce: ilościowe, przeprowadzane przez Bibliotekę Narodową, oraz jakościowe, zrealizowane przez pracowników naukowych Wydziału Dziennikarstwa, Informacji i Bibliologii Uniwersytetu Warszawskiego na zlecenie Fundacji Centrum Cyfrowe. Nie są analizowane ich wyniki. Interesujące są metody i cele tych badań w kontekście filozoficznym – w kierunku wybranych metateorii, dzięki którym są możliwe. Podjęto próbę wskazania i krótkiego opisania niektórych paradygmatów nauk społecznych, które stoją za różniącymi się od siebie pod każdym względem projektami badawczymi podejmującymi odmiennie ten sam temat – czytelnictwo.

The anthropological, cultural, social and religious changes taking place over the last decades have strongly influenced the shape of marriage and family life. By reading “the signs of the times, ”the Church undertakes a reflection on issues related to marriage and the family. In the dimension of the Catholic Church, this reflection is made especially during synods of bishops which yield apostolic exhortations presenting renewed visions of pastoral care. Regarding marriage and family, they are found in John Paul II’s exhortation Familiaris Consortio and Francis’ exhortation Amoris Laetitia. This article addresses the issue connected with mutual relationships between the pastoral concepts contained in these documents. Its presentation revolves around three parts which correspond to the methodology of pastoral-theological reflection: evangelical discernment of the situation of marriage and the family (cairological premise), establishment of pastoral paradigms (criteriological premise) and directions of pastoral solutions (pastoral-praxeological conclusion). The article shows both Amoris Laetitia’s continuation of the concept of pastoral care of families presented in Familiaris Consortio and the originality of thoughts and change of pastoral paradigms in the teaching of Pope Francis.

The key aim of the paper is to present a scientific review of Dorota Klus-Stańska’s book, Paradygmaty dydaktyki. Myśleć teorią o praktyce. The conducted analysis was subjected to unravelling these substantive and structural aspects of the textbook which reinvigorate the understanding of didactics as a scientific discipline, violate the matrices-based typologies and knock the reader out of automatisms. Conclusions from the analysis provided substantiation for proposing a classification of didactics reaching beyond their paradigmatic assignment, yet not discordant with it. Taking advantage of the relationship of particular types of didactics with their (a) paradigmatic assignment and (b) educational practice, the author distinguished stable, borderline and in statu nascendi didactics, posing at the end a question as to them being open to interparadigmatic translation.

Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to present an idea for understanding cultural processes in the organizational�discourse from the perspective of four paradigms in management sciences based on the concept of G. Burrell and G. Morgan. Methodology: The author has elaborated a valuable list of structures of the scientifi c theory based on the respective paradigms and has compared cultural paradigms in management sciences. The methodology involves an analysis of classical and recent world literature. Nowadays there is no consensus on the defi nitions, types or research models of organizational culture. Originality: In the literature on the subject we can fi nd many, sometimes contradictory cultural research studies that require further analysis. Precisely because of the diversity and complexity of cultural issues in management sciences a multi-paradigmatic analysis is necessary. The paper presents a proposal for a pluralistic approach to the theory and methodology of cultural studies in management sciences

Research Paradigm Considerations for Emerging Scholars (2021), edited by Anja Pabel, Josephine Pryce, and Allison Anderson, published by Channel View Publication (DOI: 10.21832/9781845418281), is notable among methodological publications for its scientific openness and permission to experimentation in the research process. The book’s target audience is postgraduate HDRs, emerging scholars and higher-degree supervisors, lecturers in methodology seeking to enhance their reflexivity. According to the authors, it is the reflexive approach that differentiates this book from other methodological books, especially those intended for researchers who are in the process of development regardless of their academic status. Among Polish methodological books there is no publication which as clearly as the book Research Paradigm Considerations… encourages the development of cognitive research curiosity by applying and developing already known paradigms but also by modifying them depending on the socio-cultural context of the research. I recommend this book to anyone who is looking for practical applications of paradigms, but the subject of their research cannot be clearly categorized.
