    There are two main institutional factors determining the Chinese energy policy: low effectiveness of public institutions and the power of NOCs (national oil companies). NOCs have an impact on the work of the government. Direct personal connections between administration and NOCs' management exist. Thanks to high incomes, NOCs have achieved relatively broad independence. Moreover, the administration depends on knowledge and experience of NOCs' staff. On the other hand, there are also strong measures of governmental impact on NOCs. The central administration subsidizes and aids activity of NOCs, especially during investing abroad. Case studies of Chinese FDIs in Kazakhstan, Sudan, and failed tries of investment in Russia and US show that a cooperation between NOCs and the central administration is immense.

    W ostatnich kilku latach brazylijska spółka naftowy Petrobras stała się niezwykle atrakcyjnym podmiotem na rynku ropy naftowej i gazu. Odgrywa ona różne role: na arenie krajowej skupia się przede wszystkim na generowaniu miejsc pracy oraz rozwoju gospodarki lokalnej, natomiast na rynku międzynarodowym jest potężnym graczem, podejmującym się światowej ekspansji i cieszącym się dużą autonomią w zakresie zarządzania strategicznego. Dodatkowo, w związku z ostatnimi odkryciami złóż ropy przy brazylijskim szelfie kontynentalnym, spółka została zaangażowana do operacji głębinowych na niespotykaną skalę: obejmują one wiercenia na głębokość 7000 metrów, przez dwukilometrowej grubości pokłady soli. W rezultacie Petrobras przechodzi przez interesujący okres coraz większego umiędzynarodowienia działalności i przykuwa uwagę zagranicznych inwestorów. Artykuł ma na celu przedstawić kluczowe dane na temat profilu i osiągnięć spółki, a także ukazać najciekawsze zagadnienia w zakresie źródeł jej sukcesu, aktualnej pozycji na arenie międzynarodowej oraz głównych zagrożeń.
    In the past few years, the Brazilian oil company Petrobras has become a very attractive player in the global oil and gas market. The company plays different roles domestically, being focused primarily on generating jobs and local economic development, while on the international market is a powerfull player that expands globally and enjoys a high degree of autonomy in strategic management. In addition, due to the recent oil discoveries on the Brazilian continental shelf, the company has been committed to the deep-sea operations on an unprecedented scale: they included drilling on a depth of 7000 meters, through a two-kilometer salt layer. As a result, the company goes through an interesting period of an increased internationalization and attracts attention of foreign investors. The article is intended to provide key data on the company’s profile and performance, as well as present the most interesting issues on the sources of its success, current position in the world and the main threats.

    Opis:
    Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is the process of finding out the changing expectations of stakeholders and including them in a business management strategy. CSR is a concept of the optional incorporation of social and environmental aspects into the operations of a business entity. The objective of this article is to: (1) present the historical determinants of CSR and its practical dimension; (2) characterize the activities of fuel companies in the light of the publication of CSR information in reports; (3) indicate the information and contents of the annual reports of oil companies – in particular taking account of the information about corporate social responsibility; (4) provide proposals for the structure of a model annual report including information about corporate social responsibility which could be used for the selected oil companies that were investigated. The methods of inductive and deductive reasoning and descriptive analysis, as well as desk research were used in the writing of this article.

    The files kept at the Central State Historical Archive of Ukraine in Lviv are of fundamental importance for research into the issues of the oil industry in Galicia. Of particular note is the largest ensemble in the archive - fond 146: Galician Governorate in Lviv, containing the records of the central government of Galicia. This collection has preserved a rich collection of materials representing various aspects of the development of the oil industry. They dealt with issues of the occurrence of crude oil in Galicia, the acquisition and exploitation of oil plots, the extraction and processing of oil, and the construction and operation of wells and refineries. The information on the state of the oil mines in Galicia, especially in terms of meeting technical conditions, fire protection and occupational safety, is valuable. An important place is held by files depicting issues of the creation of industrial infrastructure, including the construction and maintenance of oil pipelines, the construction of storage facilities, and the railway connection to the plants. The files also contain information on the establishment and activities of domestic and foreign oil companies and joint stock companies in Galicia. Also of interest are materials on the development of the labour movement.

    Opis:
    Ship Inspection Report Programme (SIRE) addresses concerns about sub-standard shipping in oil industry. As a part of the risk assessment physical inspection of the oil tanker is performed by accredited SIRE inspector and resulting report is available to charterers, ship operators, terminal operators and government bodies. In this article SIRE inspection is described and compared with other non-mandatory and mandatory inspections on oil tankers. Some potential consequences of tanker over-inspections are discussed.

    Państwa bogate w zasoby ropy naftowej często muszą się mierzyć z negatywnymi dla ich wydajności gospodarczej konsekwencjami rozwoju opartego na surowcach naturalnych. Jednym z powodów jest fakt, że zwiększenie poziomu wydobycia w danym kraju często prowadzi do różnorakich zmian w jego polityce publicznej i zarządzaniu przychodami. Kolumbia to kraj, który spektakularnie zwiększył produkcję ropy o prawie 500 tysięcy baryłek dziennie w ciągu ostatnich dziesięciu lat. Było to głównie efektem polityki silnie zorientowanej na przyciąganie inwestycji do sektora naftowego. Kraj jest obecnie czwartym co do wielkości producentem ropy w Ameryce Łacińskiej, odnotowując blisko dziesięć razy większe wartości eksportu niż pod koniec XX w. Gospodarcze skutki boomu naftowego są już widoczne, co stwarza wiele nowych wyzwań dla rządu. Konieczne jest szczególnie zapewnienie Kolumbii zrównoważonego rozwoju i ograniczenie wpływu spadających światowych cen ropy naftowej. Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie wyników badań na temat wpływu rozwoju sektora ropy na gospodarkę kolumbijską w XXI w., ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem obecnej sytuacji.
    Oil-rich countries often face negative consequences of natural resources-led development on their overall economic performance. One of the reasons is that a country’s rising extraction rates frequently lead to various changes in its public policy and revenue management. Colombia has spectacularly increased its oil production by almost 500,000 barrels per day (bpd) in ten years, which was the effect principally of the implementation of strongly market-oriented petroleum policies in 2003. It is now the fourth largest crude producer in Latin America, registering nearly ten times more export sales than at the end of the 20th century. The economic effects of the oil-boom are already visible, which has created many new challenges the government must face in order to ensure sustainable development in the country, and to be able to mitigate the impact of the recently dropping world oil prices. The purpose of the article is to present the latest findings on the impact of the oil sector development on the Colombian economy in the 21st century, focusing especially on the current situation.

    The main purpose of the article is to identify the features of landscape and urban of oil and gas companies in the Western region of Ukraine. Twenty-two enterprises which are located in Ivano-Frankivsk, Lviv and Ternopil regions were analyzed. The analysis includes: localization of objects and their grouping by functional types taking into account the territorial and historical context; formation of methodical tools, determination of criteria for assessment of landscape and urban properties; the obtained research results are summarized according to the defined evaluation criteria. It is an attempt to find new approaches to the reorganization of facilities, taking into account their condition and functioning.

    This research paper aims to study employees’ perceptions of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives adopted by two oil and gas companies in the UAE. Its purpose is to compare the perception about CSR dimensions between employees of these two organizations and to identify the differences in perception about CSR based on the demographic profile and the influence of CSR dimensions on CSR satisfaction of employees. Purposive sampling and questionnaire were applied to collect information from 450 employees in management and supervisory cadre in two oil companies in the UAE. The results showed that the dimensions of environmental initiatives does have a strong impact on satisfaction of employees though demographic variables failed to show a significant difference in perception levels. It also showed that CSR is interpreted differently by employees of both the companies depending on what their companies focus areas are. Responses were analyzed using statistical tools such as Pearson’s correlation, regression, Kruskal-Wallis and chi-square test with the aid of SPSS software.
    Artykuł ma na celu zbadanie postrzegania przez pracowników inicjatyw Społecznej Odpowiedzialności Biznesu (ang. CSR) podjętych przez dwa przedsiębiorstwa naftowe i gazowe w ZEA. Jego celem jest porównanie postrzegania wymiarów CSR pomiędzy pracownikami obu tych organizacji oraz zidentyfikowanie różnic w postrzeganiu CSR na podstawie profilu demograficznego oraz wpływu poszczególnych elementów CSR na satysfakcję pracowników. Do zebrania informacji od 450 pracowników wśród kadry zarządzającej i kadry nadzorczej w dwóch przedsiębiorstwach naftowych w ZEA zastosowano celowe określenie próby badawczej oraz wykorzystano opracowany kwestionariusz. Wyniki wykazały, że wymiary inicjatyw środowiskowych CSR mają silny wpływ na zadowolenie pracowników, choć zmienne demograficzne nie wykazały istotnych różnic w poziomach percepcji. Okazało się również, że CSR jest różnie interpretowana przez pracowników obu firm, w zależności od tego, na jakich obszarach działania koncentrują się ich firmy. Odpowiedzi były analizowane za pomocą narzędzi statystycznych, takich jak: korelacja Pearsona, regresja, test Kruskala-Wallisa i chi-kwadrat przy zastosowaniu oprogramowania SPSS.
