Music education theorists agree that the success of music learning depends to a large extent on the quality of the educational impact at early stages of education. Early music education is therefore the stage where the identification of natural developmental potential and the development of appropriate musical competences and skills is particularly important (in terms of the professionalization of activities and their evaluation). This text raises important issues for educators concerning research on the disciplinarization of knowledge about early music education and the quality of socio-cultural practice in this field. It refers to E.E. Gordon's contemporary Theory of Learning Music and its main conceptual category - audiation. In this theoretical construction, the adopted definitions allow one to draw recommendations for general reflection on the relationship between theory and the practice of research on the autonomy of childhood experience of music and aesthetics. This reflection is inscribed in the reflection of contemporary pedagogy and strives to evaluate the basic qualities of music pedagogy (at least in the aspect of creating empirical-praxeological knowledge).

Z uwagi na coraz częstsze podejmowanie przez akademików badań naukowych nad procesami nauczania i uczenia się muzyki zakłada się, że procesy te podlegają takim samym rygorom metodologicznym jak i inne, pochodzące z różnych dziedzin i dyscyplin, szczególnie w przypadku badań zorientowanych na strategie ilościowe. Stąd potrzeba wnikliwej analizy teoretycznej, zadomowionej na rynku polskim od ponad dwudziestu lat, teorii uczenia się muzyki, autorstwa Edwina E. Gordona w kontekście jej funkcjonalności w konstruowaniu badań. Autor artykułu nakreśla osobliwe analizy teorii uczenia się pod kątem jej racjonalności naukowej, zaplecza teoretycznego i praktycznego oraz dokonuje wybiórczej deskrypcji jej podstawowych pojęć w aspekcie podejmowania eksploracji badawczych. Okoliczność ta ma sprzyjać projektowaniu, konceptualizacji i ope- racjonalizacji wysiłków badawczych naukowców w obrębie zwłaszcza wczesnej edukacji muzycznej i szeroko pojętej pedagogiki muzyki.
Taking into consideration the recent attempts made by scientific researchers to study the learning process as well as the process of learning music, it is assumed that both are subject to the same methodological rigour as the ones which originate from different backgrounds and subjects, espe- cially in the case of studies based upon quantitative strategy. There is a need for a thorough theo- retical analysis, which has been present in Polish educational market for over 20 years, of music learning theory by E.E. Gordon in terms of its functionality in research development. The author of the article outlines a thorough analysis of learning theory in terms of its scientific rationality, theo- retical and practical background. The author also conducts a selective description of its fundamental concepts in terms of undertaking research exploration. In these circumstances, the focus is placed upon projecting, conceptualisation and operationalisation of the attempts made by researchers in the subject of early school music education and widely understood music pedagogy.

This article is of a descriptive, explanatory and methodical character. The authors’ interest in musical improvisation is taken from Edwin E. Gordon’s theory of music learning. The key to pupils making improvisational efforts is to develop preparatory audiation in the home and in kindergarten, and then to sequentially develop proper audiation at school by systematically experiencing tonal and rhythmic patterns based on different musical scales (tonalities), in the order of music learning. The authors give an example of developing the readiness for improvi-sation and the ability to improvise on the basis of the authors’ song.

Opis:
This article is to be considered a research report on the relation between stabilised musical aptitude and harmonic and rhythm improvisation readiness in students of Pedagogy in transversal research. Three tests devised by Edwin Elias Gordon were performed, the first being the Advanced Measures of Music Audiation meant to measure the stabilised tonal and rhythm musical aptitude. The second and the third tests measure improvisation readiness. In the case of rhythm improvisa- tion, it was the Rhythm Improvisation Readiness Record, and for harmonic improvisation – the Harmonic Improvisation Readiness Record. The research was performed on a group of 869 students of Pedagogy with various academic backgrounds in Poland. The results clearly indicate that musical aptitude in the investigated group is at average and low levels. There are also significant statistical relationships between musical aptitude and improvisation readiness, especially the harmonic one.
Niniejszy artykuł stanowi rodzaj komunikatu badawczego na temat relacji między zdolnościami muzycznymi ustabilizowanymi a gotowością do improwizacji harmonicznej i rytmicznej u studiujących na kierunku pedagogika; wyniki uzyskano w badaniach transwersalnych. Zastosowano trzy testy autorstwa Edwina Eliasa Gordona: pierwszy to Advanced Measures of Music Audiation przeznaczony do badania ustabilizowanego uzdolnienia muzycznego tonalnego i rytmicznego, drugi i trzeci to testy mierzące gotowość do podejmowania improwizacji; w przypadku improwizacji ryt- micznej był to test o nazwie Rhythm Improvisation Readiness Record, a harmonicznej – Harmonic Improvisation Readiness Record. Badania przeprowadzono na grupie 869 studentów pedagogiki pochodzących z różnych środowisk akademickich Polski. Wyniki badań pokazują wyraźnie, że uzdolnienia muzyczne badanych występują na przeciętnym i niskim poziomie. Odnotowuje się także istotne związki statystyczne między uzdolnieniem muzycznym a gotowością do improwizacji, głównie harmonicznej.

The purpose of this article is the presentation of the results of the research conducted in Poland on the effectiveness of music education realised in accordance with the assumptions of Edwin Elias Gordon’s Theory of Music Learning, which holds an important place in the existing systems of common music education. Gordon pays attention to the need of undertaking the earliest possible music interactions when it comes to children. Some observations conducted among pregnant women and infants during music activities being realised in accordance with the assumptions of Gordon’s theory showed that infants display some reactions indicating the recognition of the music presented before the birth. They also demonstrated that these children reacted to music earlier than the infants who were not musically stimulated in their prenatal period. The experimental research conducted among children at pre-school age and early-school age proved greater, compared to the traditional methods, effectiveness of the interactions resulting from Gordon’s Theory of Music Learning in the development of their music aptitudes and musical achievements. Moreover, they also proved that the stimulation of music aptitudes contributes to the development of children’s perceptive-motor functions especially in the context of developmental shortages compensation. Other research confirmed the validity of E.E. Gordon’s thesis about the existing relation between instrument timbre preference and the achievements in playing them.

This article concentrates on the innovative music education implemented according to the assumptions of Edwin E. Gordon’s Music Learning Theory and the insights gained from the casual observation conducted by the author within the framework of experimental studies. The observation which early education pupils underwent focused on their reactions to the undertaken actions resulting from Gordon’s concept. E.E. Gordon’s Theory of Music Learning, music education, audiation, reactions of pupils to the actions resulting from Gordon’s concept.

The article focuses on the musical interactions of parents with children based on elements of E.E. Gordon’s music learning theory which intensify their musical development in different periods of their life. The individual case method and the interview technique were used in the research. The description of the results was generalised and synthesised by analysing interviews with nine family members. The research showed that almost all parents included intentional and varied activities to support their children’s musical development in the prenatal period. They also undertook them at later stages of their lives. These activities often focused on presenting diverse music in terms of style, dynamics, pace, tonality and meter, moving to it, singing for a child and with a child, and performing tonal and rhythmic patterns. It resulted in a wide variety of musical behaviours in the children, conditioned by their age and stage of musical development. It proves that early musical support is an important foundation for the proper course of this process and further musical education.

The paper presents the results of a study in which we analysed planning of musical objectives in the psychomotor domain prepared by 372 Slovenian general education teachers. The research results showed high share of objectives pertaining to the taxonomy category of speech behaviours, which was followed by the categories of gross bodily movements, finely coordinated movements and non-verbal communication. The above facts confirm that music objectives can be classified in the prevailing psychomotor domain and show the utilization of a chosen taxonomy model. The research results also indicate that Slovenian general education teachers are aware of the need for active approaches to music teaching although they pay less attention to music objectives planning in the category of non-verbal communication which exceeds the mere use of words and represents the basis for contemporary approach of music teaching through musical doing and making.

Applications of Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) to various problems have been the subject of a number of recent studies ranging from image classification and object detection to scene parsing, segmentation 3D volumetric images and action recognition in videos. CNNs are able to learn input data representation, instead of using fixed engineered features. In this study, the image model trained on CNN were applied to a Music Information Retrieval (MIR), in particular to musical genre recognition. The model was trained on ILSVRC-2012 (more than 1 million natural images) to perform image classification and was reused to perform genre classification using spectrograms images. Harmonic/percussive separation was applied, because it is characteristic for musical genre. At final stage, the evaluation of various strategies of merging Support Vector Machines (SVMs) was performed on well known in MIR community - GTZAN dataset. Even though, the model was trained on natural images, the results achieved in this study were close to the state-of-the-art.

Teaching and learning research appears to be both a suitable and sustainable means to achieve an up-to-date competence for university students in applied linguistics. The understanding of and dealing with new multimodal ‘glocal’ semiotic systems and codes has thus emerged as a new core competence in that field. Since formal educational institutions still adhere to traditional contents, goals and methods, it has turned out to become necessary to focus on informal learning, especially when experienced in subcultures. This approach will lead to acquiring better sociosemiotic competences. The present contribution is based on data and results of imparting of knowledge about informal socio-semiotic learning at the university Wuppertal (Germany), using documents used advanced in seminars of German studies.

The article presents the most important assumptions of E.E. Gordon's theory of learning music concerning the development of creativity through improvisation, which is the most perfect manifestation of musical thinking. It focuses on describing concepts related to creativity, creation and creative activity. Particular attention was paid to the characteristics of musical creation and improvisation, the types of improvisation and methods for its development, as well as the methods for measurement and evaluation. In the Polish educational reality, creativity and improvisation do not occupy their rightful place. Indications arising from Gordon's theory of learning music can be an important reference point supporting their broader inclusion in the system of music education in Poland. 
W artykule zaprezentowano najważniejsze założenia teorii uczenia się muzyki E. E. Gordona dotyczące rozwijania kreatywności poprzez improwizację, która jest najdoskonalszym przejawem myślenia muzycznego. Skupiono się w nim na opisaniu pojęć związanych z kreatywnością, twórczością oraz aktywnością twórczą. Szczególną uwagę poświęconocharakterystyce twórczości i improwizacji muzycznej, rodzajów improwizacji oraz metod jej kształtowania, jak również sposobów pomiaru i oceny. W polskiej rzeczywistości edukacyjnej twórczość i improwizacja nie zajmują należnego im miejsca. Wskazania wynikające z założeńgordonowskiej teorii uczenia się muzyki mogą stanowić ważny punkt odniesienia do ich szerszego uwzględnienia w systemie edukacji muzycznej w polsce.

Opis:
W pierwszej części artykułu zaprezentowane zostały teoretyczne podstawy audiacyjnego modelu wczesnej edukacji muzycznej, oparte na koncepcji uczenia się muzyki Edwina E. Gordona. Kolejna część ogniskuje się na głównych założeniach i celach realizowanej w ramach modelu wczesnej edukacji muzycznej. Należą do nich cele związane z rozwijaniem audiacji, która warunkuje słuchanie, śpiewanie, grę na instrumentach oraz tworzenie muzyki ze zrozumieniem, a także jej docenianie i ocenianie, w sposób zgodny z subiektywnym poczuciem estetyki. Inne istotne cele łączą się m.in. z nauczaniem uwzględniającym indywidualne potrzeby i różnice w strukturze uzdolnienia muzycznego dzieci oraz z sekwencyjnym sposobem nauczania-uczenia się muzyki. W pozostałych częściach artykułu skupiono się na kompetencjach nauczycieli oraz pomiarze zdolności i osiągnięć muzycznych uczniów testami Gordona, jak również na efektywności oddziaływań podejmowanych w ramach modelu wczesnej edukacji muzycznej, weryfikowanych w badaniach eksperymentalnych, które zrealizowane zostały m.in. wśród dzieci sześcioletnich w przedszkolu oraz pierwszych trzech klasach szkoły podstawowej.
The first part of the article presents the theoretical bases of the audiative model of early musical education, based on E.E. Gordon’s Theory of Music Learning. The following part focuses on the assumptions and goals of early musical education executed pursuant to the model. These include goals related to developing audiation which conditions listening, singing, playing instruments, and creating music with understanding it, but also appreciating and assessing music in a manner accordant with a subjective aesthetic sense. Other important goals are connected with i.a. learning while taking into consideration the individual needs and differences in the structure of the musical aptitude of children, as well as a sequential manner of teaching-learning music. The following parts of the article focus on the competences of teachers and measuring musical aptitude and achievements of students using Gordon’s tests, but also on the efficiency of impingements undertaken in terms of the early musical education model, verified with experimental research conducted i.a. among six-year-olds in kindergarten and in the first three years of primary school.
