Opis:
A highly selective filter is designed, working at 1.55 μm and having a 3-dB bandwidth narrower than 0.4 nm, as is required in Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexed systems. Different solutions are proposed, involving photonic crystals made rectangular- or circular-section dielectric rods, or else of holes drilled in a dielectric bulk. The polarization and frequency selective properties are achieved by introducing a defect in the periodic structure. The device is studied by using in-house codes implementing the full-wave Fourier Modal Method. Practical guidelines about advantages and limits of the investigated solutions are given.

We describe a polarization-selective beam splitter by a sandwiched grating, which can fulfill the high efficiency element for TE polarization and the two-port output for TM polarization. The modal method and the rigorous coupled-wave analysis (RCWA) are employed together to optimize the polarization-selective beam splitter. According to the modal method, the grating duty cycle and period are discussed to analyze the physical mechanism of such a dual-function element. Using RCWA, grating depth and thickness of the covering layer are accurately optimized to design such a polarization-selective beam splitter. With the optimized grating duty cycle, period, depth and covering layer thickness, TE polarization can be mainly diffracted in the –1st order and two-port output can be achieved for TM polarization in the 0th and the –1st orders. The polarization-selective beam splitter should be a useful element in a variety of applications with advantages of high efficiency, wideband property, and dual functions based on a sandwich grating.

Opis:
A theoretical method has been presented to describe sound decay in enclosures and simulate the room impulse response (RIR) employed for prediction of the indoor reverberation characteristics. The method was based on a solution of wave equation with the form of a series whose time-decaying components represent responses of acoustic modes to an impulse sound source. For small sound absorption on room walls this solution was found by means of the method of variation of parameters. A decay function was computed via the time-reverse integration of the squared RIR. Computer simulations carried out for a rectangular enclosure have proved that the RIR function reproduces the structure of a sound field in the initial stage of sound decay sufficiently well. They have also shown that band-limitedness of the RIR has evident influence on the shape of the decay function and predicted decay times.

W pracy omówiono sposób przeprowadzenia uproszczonej, numerycznej analizy drgań kładki kompozytowej wywołanych działaniem wiatru. Rozważaniom poddano swobodnie podpartą konstrukcję o rozpiętości 16 m i przekroju w kształcie litery U. W pierwszej kolejności przeprowadzono dwuwymiarową analizę opływu niepodatnego kształtu przekroju kładki w poziomym strumieniu wiatru o prędkości 10 m/s. Obliczenia numeryczne przeprowadzono programem ANSYSFLUENT14. Rezultaty analizy opływu - liczbę Strouhala - porównano z wynikami zawartymi w monografii A. Flagi pt. Inżynieria wiatrowa. Podstawy i zastosowania, Arkady, Warszawa, 2008, w celu oceny poprawności obliczeń. W kolejnym etapie zbudowano przestrzenny model konstrukcji w programie ABAQUS6.12-3.
In the work, we describe a simplified method for numerical analysis of a FRP composite footbridge in the field of wind induced vibrations. We consider a simply supported structure with a span length of 16 m and U-shape cross-section. Firstly, a two dimensional flow analysis is performed of the fixed bridge cross-section which is subjected to a lateral wind action with 10 m/s velocity. Calculations are performed using ANSYSFLUENT14 software. Results of the flow analysis (Strouhal’s number) are compared with the results presented in a monograph by A. Flaga, entitled Inżynieria Wiatrowa. Podstawy i zastosowania (Wind Engineering. The bases and applications) (in Polish), Arkady, Warszawa, 2008, in order to validate calculations. After that, a three dimensional spatial model of the footbridge is built in ABAQUS6.12-3 finite element method software. Amodal dynamics problem is solved, where the loading conditions are adopted on the basis of the flow analysis and applied as an evenly distributed pressure on the bridge deck surface. Finally, the users’ vibration comfort criterion is checked for the considered structure.

The paper presents a synthetic characterization of modern methods of manufacturing or regenerating machine elements. Considered methods are machining and additive methods, in particular 3D printing in the FDM/FFF technique. For the study, the authors made samples of the holder bracket using selected methods. Samples made by machining operations, 3D printing with various filling were tested. The paper contains a technical and economic analysis of the production of a holder bracket using the discussed methods. The dynamics of steel and FDM/FFF printed samples were also assessed by determining their resonance curves. The vibration magnification fac-tors were analyzed - the quotient of the vibration amplitudes in the resonance to the static deformations that occurred under the influence of the constant force and the location of the vibration resonances - the natural frequencies for individual vibration modes. The study's main objective is to assess the possibility of emergency changing the manufacturing technology of selected machine components. The authors were interested in partially replacing costly and not environmentally friendly milling with 3D printing. Machine elements can be manufactured by printing in classical machine building and emergency conditions to replace a damaged component temporarily (e.g., on a ship, for the time of arrival at a port or shipyard). The main assumption guiding the authors during the preparation of this publication was the analysis of the possibility of using the production of "ad hoc" prepared spare parts and their use in the event of a lack of access to parts made of the intended materials.

In this study, vibration analysis of a telescopic platform is conducted, and the platform structure is reconstructed to satisfy vibrational standards. The analysis is realised using solid modelling, finite elements and an analytical method. The results are verified using experimental modal techniques. Through the finite element and experimental modal approach free vibration analysis is carried out and natural frequencies are determined. Additionally, vibration accelerations of the structure are obtained by forced vibration analysis of the model. All calculations one performed on the new reconstructed structure, and it is determined whether the reconstructed structure satisfies the vibrational standards.

In the numerical analysis of the eigen behaviour of large liquid and gas storage tanks, an important role is played by initial pre-stressing of such thin-walled structures due to high fluid pressure and gravity. In a majority of numerical simulations, the finite state of deformation is first calculated, following which small, linear vibrations are superimposed on the finite state. This paper is devoted to refinement and assessment of the basic Eckart superimposed eigencharacteristics problem simultaneously stated in fluid and thin-walled structures. Eckart's coupled approach leads to variational structure-fluid coupling in the so-called acoustic approximation. In order to verify the feasibility and correctness of the symmetrical Eckart approach, finite element discretization and a calculation example of a rectangular tank are presented. The calculated results are compared with literature ones.

Opis:
The main design parameters that impact the fatigue of components are geometry, material and loading. Simulation with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and tests on a vibrating table are often used to understand the dynamic behaviour of components and thus validate those items. Accelerated tests are used for the mission profile and test definition, as described in GAM-EG-13, MIL-STD-810F and RTCA DO-160E. The shock response spectrum (SRS) and the extreme response spectrum (ERS) allow for a comparison of the power spectrum density (PSD) and the acceleration factor applied in terms of fatigue severity through the fatigue damage spectrum (FDS). In addition, the hypothesis of linear damage accumulation enables the combination of several events for specifying a mission profile. Ultimately, the mission profile, which represents a usage that might span over several years, can be reduced to a shorter duration with a damage extraction technique. This is particularly useful for the definition of vibrating table specifications. An advantage of the virtual vibrating table is the reduction of the number of prototypes and the understanding of failure modes. To achieve this objective, finite element analysis in the frequency domain (harmonic analysis) is used and the structural stress response is evaluated with a PSD loading. A statistical model of rainflow allows assessing the damage on the components. The presentation also shows the effects of the damping factor on damage results. To achieve accurate results and define a Digital Twin, the correlation between test results and the finite element analysis is fundamental. Experimental modal analysis, based on the measured acceleration responses, helps to validate calculated modal frequencies and to assess the damping for each mode. This study shows the importance and the sensitivity on damping of the structural response, and in turn on fatigue.

In this work, the influence of the engine rotational speed on the natural frequencies of the turbine blade was investigated. In first part of the work the experimental modal analysis of the blade were made using the vibration system. The investigated blade was fixed to the movable head of the shaker. The blade amplitude was measured using the piezoelectric accelerometers. As results of experimental modal analysis, the resonant frequencies for first three modes of vibration were determined. In the next step of the work, the numerical models of the blades with different size of the finite elements were performed in order to check the convergence of the numerical solution. For each models the natural frequencies were determined for the non-rotated blade. The numerical results were next compared to the results of experimental modal analysis. After this comparison, one model only was selected for the further computations. In the last part of the work, the complex multi-steps analysis was performed in order to investigate the influence of turbine rotational speed on the modes and natural frequencies of the blade. Obtained results are important from both the research and also the practical point of view and have an influence on reliability of the engine.

Opis:
The ship hull vibration has a great impact on the performance, safety of the devices, structures, and the sailor's comfort when working on the ship. With increases in ship sizes and speeds, shipboard vibration becomes a significant concern in the design and construction of ships. Therefore, designing a ship without any excessive vibration is an important issue and should be studied through analysis right in the design phase. To ensure minimum vibration in a proposed new design; avoid damage to structures, machinery or equipment (mechanically suitable); meeting the requirements of the crew's living environment and working conditions. The ship's natural vibrations are determined to right from the design stage, which will help ship designers and structures avoid dangerous resonance areas. In this study, a three-dimensional finite element model representing the entire ship hull, including the deckhouse and machinery propulsion system, has been developed using numerical modelling implemented in Patran-Nastran software for local and global vibration analyses of the container ship 2000 TEU. Vibration analyses have been conducted under two conditions: free– free (dry) and in-water (wet). The wet analysis has been implemented using Mfluid elements in Nastran software. Because of the global ship free vibration analysis, global natural frequencies and mode shapes have been determined. Combined with the frequency of the main engine and the propeller, the resonant regions with higher frequencies are determined by the resonant graph of the hull. The application of the finite element method for ship vibration analysis shows the optimal of numerical modelling method compared to other traditional methods. This will help other technical problems to be solved with the support of the finite element method.

Opis:
In this work, the input-output method of dynamic parameters’ identification is experimentally tested. A method based on the transformation of a dynamic problem into a static problem by means of integration of the input and output signal was presented. The problem discussed in this article is the identification of the coefficients of stiffness matrices and eigenfrequencies of a discrete dynamic system subjected to kinematic input. The experimental analysis was carried out on a three-storey slab-and-column structure, which constitutes a physical model of a building. The vibrations of the model were excited kinematically by an earthquake simulator. The device has a computer-controlled, movable table top, which can move independently in three directions, that is, horizontally, vertically, and rotationally around the vertical axis. The aim of the experimental studies presented in this work was to determine the dynamic parameters of the model (stiffness, natural frequencies) using the input-output method in the time domain. Moreover, the results obtained with this method were compared with the results of experimental modal analysis (EMA) in order to verify their correctness. It was assumed that the movement of the base is horizontal and occurs in one direction. Two short-term, irregular kinematic excitations of the construction were considered, and the selected results and conclusions from experimental analyses were presented in this work.

This work focuses on finding a numerical solution for vehicle acoustic studies and improving the usefulness of the numerical experimental parameters for the development stage of a new automotive project. Specifically, this research addresses the importance of modal cavity damping for vehicle exerts during numerical studies. It then seeks to suggest standardized parameter values of modal cavity damping in vehicular acoustic studies. The standardized value of modal cavity damping is of great importance for the study of vehicular acoustics in the automotive industry because it would allow the industry to begin studies of the acoustic performance of a new vehicle early in the conception phase with a reliable estimation that would be close to the final value measured in the design phase. It is common for the automotive industry to achieve good levels of numerical-experimental correlation in acoustic studies after the prototyping phase because this phase can be studied with feedback from the simulation and experimental modal parameters. Thus, this research suggests values for modal cavity damping, which are divided into two parts due to their behaviour: ξ(x) = −0.0126(x − 100) + 6.15 as a variable function to analyse up to 100 Hz and 6.15% of modal cavity damping constant for studies between 30 Hz and 100 Hz. The sequence of this study shows how we arrived at these values.

A rock bolt which is grouted underground may not be properly inserted with the result of discontinuity of resin layer. Such discontinuity may also occur in working conditions due to typical rock behavior and displacement. It may be very hazardous to mine safety. In this paper a method for non-destructive identification of discontinuity of a resin layer surrounding rock bolt is presented. The method used modal analysis procedures and is based on an impact excitation where a response transducer is positioned at a visible part of a rock bolt. As an installed rock bolt acts as an oscillator, different length of discontinuity of resin layer changes its modal parameters. By proper extraction of these parameters, from which a resonant frequency is seen as most valuable, the intended identification is possible. Also the results of research work concerning influence of explosions on installed rock bolts are presented. The investigated rock bolts were localized in a coal mine roadway near the region of explosions of dynamite charge. The test were performed before and after the explosions. The usage of the method was tested in copper mines as well.
