In the general linear model Ey=Xξ, the vector Cξ is estimable whenever there exists a matrix L such that ELy=Cξ. Several characterizations of estimability are presented. The haracterizations concern matrix and rank equalities based on X and XX′.  Moreover, usefulness of such characterizations is discussed from a computational point of view. The problem of estimability of the vector Cξ in the general linear model Ey=Xξ is discussed. It is assumed that the vector of parameters ξ is a linear manifold Ω given by Rξ=s, where the matrix R and the vector s are known. The vector Cξ is estimable if there exist matrices L and M such that ELy+Ms=Cξ for all ξ in Ω. Using the results of a paper by the authors [62046 above], necessary and sufficient conditions for estimability are presented with short and elegant proofs.

In the paper a new method of calculation of the linear regression is proposed and analyzed. This method takes directly into account the influence of uncertainties of both input and output quantities onto the regression line slope. The correct slope value is calculated under condition to minimization the sum of the squared deviations of desired line from the experimental points in the direction of maximum influence of uncertainties. The formula for the calculation of the regression line slope in function of the parameters of observation results and their standard uncertainties is given. It is shown that all other linear regressions are the particular cases of the regression proposed in this paper.

We present a two-dimensional linear regression model where both variables are subject to error. We discuss a model where one variable of each pair of observables is repeated. We suggest two methods to construct consistent estimators: the maximum likelihood method and the method which applies variance components theory. We study asymptotic properties of these estimators. We prove that the asymptotic variances of the estimators of regression slopes for both methods are comparable.

Opis:
The number of environmentally dangerous substances which the Fire Department has to face with, is increasing annually. Therefore, the aim of this study was to prepare a mathematical description of the sorption process. The sorption process was performed in the laboratory scale. On the Petrie dish different sorbates with total amount of 100cm3 and exposed to different types of sorbents were analyzed. In this research the diesel oil and the petrol as well as sand and compact were analyzed. The time of sorption process and the changing weight of the sorbate were monitored. Next, the linear and non-linear regression was applied for the description of the sorption process. It was presented that linear approach is not suitable to describe the results of the sorption process for dry sand and compact in the contact with Gasoline and Oil. In the first step of the sorption process a dynamic and prompt increase of the sorbate amount is observed, while at the end of the process the increase is more stable. Therefore, the non-linear regression mimics more accurately the shape of the experimental results compared to the linear approach.
Wśród analizowanych parametrów były czas procesu sorpcji i zmiana masy sorbatu.

Classification is an important task in image analysis. Simply recognizing an object in an image can be a daunting step for a computer algorithm. The methodologies are often simple but rely heavily on the thresholding of the image. The operation of turning a color or gray-scale image into a black and white image is a determining step in the effectiveness of a solution. Thresholding methods perform differently in various problems where they are often used locally. Global thresholding is a difficult task in most problems. We highlight a pseudo Bayesian and a linear regression global thresholding methods that performed well in an engineering problem. The same approaches can be used in biomedical applications where the environment is better controlled.

Consider an incomplete multiresponse experiment with a classification of the observations into u classes. The class Si contains ti treatments with ni observations. Thus, the experiment can be described by the set {Y1,Y2,...,Yu}, where Yi are ni×ti random matrices of observations from the class Si. For the expectation of each Yi a linear model with main and nuisance parameters is proposed. The problem of (linear) estimation of the main parameters is considered using results of R. In this paper, the problem of ICGLS (Inequality Constrained Generalized Least Squares) estimation of a given set function K in the weakly singular model M={y, X| A > b, ^2V} is considered. The ICGLS estimator is not linear and it is expressed in a form of at most of 2^m formulae, where m denotes a number of rows in the matrix A. For a given vector y the one of these formulae can be used. On the basis of the Kuhn-Tucker optimality conditions, necessary and sufficient conditions for a vector Kβ^t to be the ICGLS estimator of Kβ are presented. The estimators are given in explicit form.

Standard statistical procedures for variance in Gaussian models are not robust against departures from normality. One of the possible reasons is that the variance of the variance estimate depens on kurtosis of the underlying distribution. In the paper, the most robust estimate of the variance in a class of quadratic forms is constructed.

The author deals with a classical split-plot design in which the effect of levels of factor A, i.e., the whole plot treatments, and the effect of levels of factor B, i.e., the split-plot treatments, on the values of some variable are investigated. He considers four different models: (i) a fixed model, i.e., the effects of both factors are fixed; (ii) two mixed models, i.e., the effects of A are random and the effects of B are fixed, or the effects of A are fixed and the effects of B are random; (iii) a random model, i.e., the effects of both factors are random. It is assumed also that block effects are always random. In all the above linear models, it is proved that, for the estimable functions of the fixed parameters, there exist uniformly best unbiased estimators. Moreover, uniformly best unbiased quadratic estimators of suitable variance components are given in the above linear models. MR0707815

This paper concerns the application of parametric and non-parametric regression methods in explaining the impact of advertising on consumers on the dairy market. Two specific goals were stated in this research. The first goal was to evaluate the impact of advertising components on its effectiveness operationalized as the AIDA marketing model. The second goal attempted at clustering consumers with respect to the effectiveness of subsequent components of advertising. The former was achieved using the parametric regression model, for the latter the regression tree model was applied. Among the components of advertising, the TV medium and music – factors that strongly attract attention – affects the behaviour of consumers of dairy products the most. Other important revealed factors turn out to be varying in significance depending on the regression method applied.

Nonhomogeneous Poisson processes are Poisson processes with parameters that depend on time and not constant from time to time, also mutually independent. In addition, the probability of no occurrence in the initial state is one and the probability of the n event in the initial state is zero. In this study, nonhomogeneous Poisson processes were applied to predict and count the number of earthquake events in Indonesia. Because earthquakes that occur in Indonesia from one month to the next do not affect each other and the numbers are not the same, by not paying attention to the geophysical cause of the earthquake. The data used in the study is the occurrence of earthquakes in Indonesia from January 2016 to July 2018, sourced from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency obtained online. The results were obtained that the odds of predicting dan counting the occurrence of earthquakes in Indonesia in the first week of December 2018 were around 184 times with a standard deviation of around 14 times.

Opis:
This paper presents the current stage of the development of EA-MOSGWA - a tool for identifying causal genes in Genome Wide Association Studies (GWAS). The main goal of GWAS is to identify chromosomal regions which are associated with a particular disease (e.g. diabetes, cancer) or with some quantitative trait (e.g height or blood pressure). To this end hundreds of thousands of Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNP) are genotyped. One is then interested to identify as many SNPs as possible which are associated with the trait in question, while at the same lime minimizing the number of false detections. The software package MOSGWA allows to detect SNPs via variable selection using the criterion mBIC2, a modified version of the Schwarz Bayesian Information Criterion. MOSGWA tries to minimize mBIC2 using some stepwise selection methods, whereas EA-MOSGWA applies some advanced evolutionary algorithms to achieve the same goal. We present results from an extensive simulation study where we compare the performance of EA-MOSGWA when using different parameter settings. We also consider using a clustering procedure to relax the multiple testing correction in mBlC2. Finally we compare results from EA-MOSGWA with the original stepwise search from MOSGWA, and show that the newly proposed algorithm has good properties in terms of minimizing the mBIC2 criterion, as well as in minimizing the misclassification rate of detected SNPs.
W artykule przedstawiony jest aktualny stan rozwoju programu EA-MOSGWA - narzędzia służącego do identyfikacji przyczynowych genów w badaniach asocjacyjnych całego genomu (ang. Genome Wide Association Studies, GWAS).

Various real-world problem areas, such as engineering, physics, chemistry, biology, economics, social, and other problems can be modeled with mathematics to be more easily studied and done calculations. One mathematical model that is very well known and is often used to solve various problem areas in the real world is multiple linear regression. One of the stages of working on multiple linear regression models is the preparation of normal equations which is a system of linear equations using the least-squares method. If more independent variables are used, the more linear equations are obtained. So that other mathematical tools that can be used to simplify and help to solve the system of linear equations are matrices. Based on the properties and operations of the matrix, the linear equation system produces a symmetric covariance matrix. If the covariance matrix is also positive definite, then the Cholesky decomposition method can be used to solve the system of linear equations obtained through the least-squares method in multiple linear regression. Based on the background of the problem outlined, such that this paper aims to construct a multiple linear regression model using Cholesky decomposition. Then, the application is used in the numerical simulation and real case.

The article makes a comparison of coordinate readings of the Cessna 172 in the ellipsoidal BLh frame. The verification of the coordinates of the aircraft Cessna 172 was used to assess the reliability of the GNSS satellite technique in aviation. In a research test, the navigation data were recorded by the onboard receiver Thales Mobile Mapper during an air test performed over the military aerodrome EPDE in Dęblin. Judging by the conducted investigations, it is possible to conclude that the difference in BLh coordinates of the aircraft Cessna 172 on the basis of the GPS solution and EGNOS (SBAS) solution equals, respectively: from -0.5 m to +3 m for component B; and from -2 m to +6 m for component L; from approximately -11 m to over +1 m for component h. In addition, the paper defines factors of dilution of precision PDOP, based on the GPS and EGNOS (SBAS) solutions. The average value of the PDOP coefficient for a solution in the tracking GPS mode was 2.7, whereas in the EGNOS (SBAS) tracking mode, it was equal to 2.8.

The multiple regression analysis is a statistical tool for the investigation relationships between the dependent and independent variables. There are some procedures for selecting a subset of given predictors. These procedures are widely available in statistical computer packages. The most often used are forward selection, backward selection and stepwise selection. In these procedures testing the significance of parameters is used. If some assumptions such as normality errors are not fulfilled, the results of testing significance of the parameters may not be trustworthy. The main goal of this paper is to present a permutation test for testing the significance of the coefficients in the regression analysis. Permutation tests can be used even if the normality assumption is not fulfilled. The properties of this test were analyzed in the Monte Carlo study.

The paper presents the results of a survey conducted among 200 employees from the top, middle & lower management levels of various national & international development organizations working in Pakistan like Microfinance Banks and other Rural Support Programs. Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) was used to process data. Findings – The result shows positive association among transformational leadership, operational efficiency and project success. In addition, it was found that transformational leadership and operational efficiency have a positive and statistically significant impact on the project success. It is concluded that both transformational leadership and operational efficiency are vital to achieving the optimum level of success in any project, especially in the development sector. Research implications/limitations – The integral limitation of the study was the respondents because most of the development organizations have their operations in rural areas where access was difficult because of limited time and resources. In addition, such organizations are always reluctant to provide survey feedback. Originality/value/contribution – The paper contribution is in the theoretical and practical knowledge of the project success factors in the development sector which is still a somehow unexplored area. Regulators of the development sector may be benefited from this study.

Tanaka (1991) suggested that the parameters of a linear regression model should be made fuzzy In order to better reflect the nature of the system, involving a definite degree of variability, and created a fuzzy linear regression model. This model can be formulated in the form of a linear programming problem that minimizes the span between the upper and lower limits under the constraints that include all data. In recent years, all the attention in this context has been focused on a fuzzy number that has an indifferent zone. A fuzzy number that we consider here is defined by using a type 2 membership function. This paper addresses the fact that a type 2 membership function has the upper and lower limits and shows that a type 2 membership function can be identified by expanding a fuzzy linear regression model into a fuzzy linear polynomial regression model. Finally, after a proposed fuzzy polynomial model is identified, a mathematical model is developed for a fuzzy decision-making method that accounts for an indifferent zone.

Two methods of linear trend estimation: the ordinary least squares (OLS, parametric) and Theil-Kendall (TK, nonparametric) are compared in the paper. The comparison was made using 65 time series of annual totals, Pa , and annual daily maximum, Pmax, of precipitation, 30-year long each, recorded in the south-eastern part of Poland (the Upper Vistula catchment). The OLS and TK slope coefficients of trends revealed high similarity for both Pa and Pmax series. The signs of slopes are the same for 64 sites for Pa and 63 sites for Pmax with positive signs prevailing: the numbers of decreasing trends for Pa OLS and TK slopes were 3 and 4, respectively, and, for Pmax, 13 for both OLS and TK slopes. In trend significance testing, both methods produced similar results for Pa time series: out of 16 significant trends, 13 were determined with both OLS and TK at the same sites. For Pmax series such agreement was found for 4 trends out of 10. Spatial distribution of significant trends showed a kind of clustering in certain parts of the investigated area.

Opis:
This research elucidates non linear relationship for volume estimation of Gmelina arborea in Uyo Ravine plantation, Akwa Ibom State Nigeria. Series of functional models were developed and the estimates of measurement of stand parameters such as diameter at breast height (DBH), stump diameter (Dst), total height (THT), merchantable height, (MTH), merchantable length (MLT) were used for modeling procedures for best fit models for stand volume estimation. Twenty temporary sample plots of 20m x 20m were randomly established without replacement and all trees in each plot were measured. Quantitative data collected were subjected to correlation and regression analyses for determination of empirical relationship between the growth variables. The developed models for volume estimation were evaluated by confirming the goodness of fit of the model and the statistical significance of the parameters using statistical relevant fit indices and criteria. The results of the study showed there were significant associations between the Gmelina arborea growth characteristics both at the individual and stand levels. The correlation analyses revealed a significant association with coefficient of correlation (r) ranging from 0.576 – 0.836 among the Gmelina arborea growth characteristics at the stand level while the association between the volume and diameter at breast height gave r-value of 0.978 which was very significant P<0.05. Similarly, the results of the study in testing for relationship among the growth parameters using volume models showed that the non linear regression volume models significantly fulfilled the criteria for model selection or goodness of fit among cubic, logarithm and quadratic non linear regression models with their coefficient of determination (R2) ranging from 0.640-0.881 and low values of standard error of the estimate (SEE) at P< 0.05. These models were recommended for volume estimation of Gmelina arborea in the study area and other Gmelina arborea plantations for effective plantation forest management in Nigeria.

Calendar effects are anomalies in the behavior of asset prices that may disprove the efficient market hypothesis. The well recognized are: day-of-the-week effect, month-of-the-year effect, holidays effect and turn-of-the-month effect. These anomalies are observed in many financial markets, most often on stock exchanges, thus studies on calendar effects usually focus on stock markets. However, the aim of the paper is searching for the anomalies in precious metals markets (the empirical data covers London daily spot prices from 2008 through 2013). This is the continuation of authors’ prior research aimed at testing weak market efficiency hypothesis for precious metals markets.

To be able to compare the results obtained, for its analysis, the relative bias and U tests were used. It was found that there are no systematic differences between the results, which points that the exposure of the detector during summer vacations did not affect the estimated average annual radon concentration. The paired results were modelled by a linear function, giving an extremely high coeffi cient of determination R2 = 0.99.

In this study, the concentration of chromite minerals by amine flotation of a chromite tailing (slime) with content 23.84% Cr2O3 from Yeşilova-Burdur (Turkey) was investigated. In experimental studies, firstly, some operating parameters of the rougher flotation observed for a low-grade chromite tailing were investigated. Secondly, multiple linear regression (MLR) analyses were performed to determine the effects of some operating parameters on the performance of the rougher amine flotation. From the experimental results, multiple linear regression equations were developed to predict the recovery and grade of the chromite concentrate, and the regression coefficients between experimental and predicted values were found to be quite good (R2 values of 0.772 and 0.917, respectively). Additionally, it was found that the conditioning time and low pH value using $H_2SO_4$ showed an important effect on the recovery and the grade of the chromite concentrate.

Opis:
Modern science is based on the study of economic phenomena and tries to quantify them in a measurable way. Econometric models are used for this purpose. The objectof this research was to develop econometric models that show the strength of the influence of various factors on the implementation of public-private partnership (PPP) projects in the area of transport infrastructure in France, GB, Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium. The models express the dependence of the value and number of PPP contracts on the value of measurable PPP success factors. Projects with a value of at least €40 million were included. A linear model and seven models transformable to linear were used. Four groups of factors were considered as explanatory variables. Fourteen indicators were obtained. Principal components determined based on covariance and correlation matrices were also used. The best models for the number of PPP contracts are linear and hyperbolic I models. For the value of contracts - linear and hyperbolic I and logarithmic models. The best models were indicated taking into account the type of explanatory variables and regardless of the type of explanatory variables. Nine criteria were used to assess the quality of the models. Factors having a significant impact on the value and number of PPP models were identified from the best models. Factors having no significant influence were also indicated.
Do oceny jakości modeli wykorzystano dziewięć kryteriów. Na podstawie modeli najlepszych wskazano czynniki mające istotny wpływ na wartość i liczbę modeli PPP. Wskazano również czynniki nie mające istotnego wpływu.

The author examines unemployment in different regions of Poland and its determinants in 1999-2006. The analysis focuses on differences in joblessness at the county (local) level. The discussion of the regional diversification of unemployment is combined with analyses describing the diversification of unemployment on local labor markets in sectors such as agriculture, industry, construction, market services, and non-market services. The statistical analyses described in the article are based on a simple linear regression method. The analyses show that the lowest jobless rates were usually noted in large and medium-sized cities where most of the labor force is employed in the market services sector. Relatively low unemployment rates were also noted in agricultural counties in which small private farms absorbed labor market shocks. The highest unemployment rates were noted in post-industrial areas and areas that were formerly home to many state-run farms.

Infiltration process plays important role in water balance concept particularly in runoff analysis, groundwater recharged, and water conservation. Hence, increasing knowledge concerning infiltration process becomes essential for water manager to gain an effective solution to water resources problems. This study employed multiple linear regression for estimating infiltration rate where the soil properties used as the predictor variable and measured infiltration rate as the response variable. Field measurement was conducted at sixteen points to obtain infiltration rate using double ring infiltrometer and soil properties namely soil porosity, silt, clay, sand content, degree of saturation, and water content. The result showed that measured infiltration rate had an average initial infiltration rate (f0) of 6.92 mm∙min–1 and final infiltration rate (fc) of 1.49 mm∙min–1. Soil porosity and sand content showed a positive correlation with infiltration rate by 0.842, 0.639, respectively, while silt, clay, water content, and degree of saturation exhibited a negative correlation by –0.631, –0.743, –0.66 and –0.49, respectively. Three types of regression equations were established based on type of soil properties used as predictor variables. The model performance analysis was conducted for each equation and the result shows that the equation with five predictor variables fMLR_3 = – 62.014 + 1.142 soil porosity – 0.205 clay, – 0.063 sand – 0.301, silt + 0.07 soil water content with R2 (0.87) and Nash–Sutcliffe (0.998) gave the best result for estimating infiltration rate. The study found that soil porosity contributes mostly to the regression equation that indicates great influence in controlling soil infiltration behavior.

Unlike many other countries, tropical regions such as Indonesia still lack publications on pedotransfer functions (PTFs), particularly ones dedicated to the predicting of soil bulk density. Soil bulk density affects soil density, porosity, water holding capacity, drainage, and the stock and flux of nutrients in the soil. However, obtaining access to a laboratory is difficult, time-consuming, and costly. Therefore, it is necessary to utilise PTFs to estimate soil bulk density. This study aims to define soil properties related to soil bulk density, develop new PTFs using multiple linear regression (MLR), and evaluate the performance and accuracy of PTFs (new and existing). Seven existing PTFs were applied in this study. For the purposes of evaluation, Pearson’s correlation (r), mean error (ME), root mean square error (RMSE), and modelling efficiency (EF) were used. The study was conducted in five soil types on Bintan Island, Indonesia. Soil depth and organic carbon (SOC) are soil properties potentially relevant for soil bulk density prediction. The ME, RMSE, and EF values were lower for the newly developed PTFs than for existing PTFs. In summary, we concluded that the newly developed PTFs have higher accuracy than existing PTFs derived from literature. The prediction of soil bulk density will be more accurate if PTFs are applied directly in the area that is to be studied.

The aim of the paper is to evaluate and compare two linear regression models proposed by Froot and Frankel (1989) and to show their application in verification of the uncovered interest rate parity (UIP) hypothesis in the selected ten exchange rate markets. The paper shows that both models proposed by Froot and Frankel (1989) are formally equivalent, but they may give different regression results. Many researchers claim that uncovered interest rate parity tends to hold more frequently in emerging markets than in developed economies. The paper is focused on five developed and five emerging economies. It is partly confirmed that developing countries work better in terms of UIP.

Linear regression analysis has become a fundamental tool in experimental sciences. We propose a new method for parameter estimation in linear models. The 'Generalized Ordered Linear Regression with Regularization' (GOLRR) uses various loss functions (including the o-insensitive ones), ordered weighted averaging of the residuals, and regularization. The algorithm consists in solving a sequence of weighted quadratic minimization problems where the weights used for the next iteration depend not only on the values but also on the order of the model residuals obtained for the current iteration. Such regression problem may be transformed into the iterative reweighted least squares scenario. The conjugate gradient algorithm is used to minimize the proposed criterion function. Finally, numerical examples are given to demonstrate the validity of the method proposed.

The study was conducted in the irrigated conditions of the semi-arid cold Steppe zone on the fields of the Institute of Irrigated Agriculture of NAAS, Kherson, Ukraine. We studied the historical data of productivity of three most common in the region vegetable crops: potato, tomato, onion. The crops were cultivated by using the generally accepted in the region agrotechnology. Historical yielding and meteorological data of the period 1990–2016 were used to develop the models of the vegetable crops’ productivity. We used two approaches: development of pair linear models in three categories (“yield – water use”, “yield – sum of the effective air temperatures above 10°C”); development of complex linear regression models taking into account such factors as total water use, and temperature regime during the crops’ vegetation. Pair linear models of the crops’ productivity showed that the highest effect on the yields of potato and onion has the water use index (R2 of 0.9350 and 0.9689, respectively), and on the yield of tomato – temperature regime (R2 of 0.9573). The results of pair analysis were proved by the multiple regression analysis that revealed the same tendencies in the crop yield formation depending on the studied factors.

Opis:
Over the last decades, Algeria has witnessed intense and persistent drought periods characterized by a significant rainfall deficit. The Northwestern Algeria, such as the most south Mediterranean regions, is marked by alternating wet and dry periods and mixing between Atlantic and Mediterranean airs. In a climate context increasingly disturbed by anthropogenic activities, it is essential to analyze the dry episodes at spatial and temporal scales. In order to understand this problem, this work aims to use the potential of Landsat satellite imagery for monitoring drought conditions in the Cheliff watershed in the northwestern Algeria. As known, the behavior of vegetation is strongly related to climate changes. On this basis, a comparison of the variations in the standardized normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) and those of the drought indices calculated from meteorological data was implemented. In fact, the rainfall series from fifty meteorological stations were analyzed. The standardized precipitation index (SPI) was calculated for the years 1987, 2000, 2006, 2011 and 2015, corresponding to the acquisition dates of Landsat images. Similarly, an extraction of the NDVI values was performed for each meteorological station. The linear regression between SPI and NDVI showed a good correlation. Thus, the obtained results enabled establishing a new drought index based essentially on satellite data. This index represents the advantage for monitoring spatially the drought phenomena and can solve the problem of climatic data lack.

The fatigue crack growth rate can be explained using features of the surface of a structure. Among other methods, linear regression can be used to explain crack growth velocity. Nonlinear transformations of fracture surface texture features may be useful as explanatory variables. Nonetheless, the number of derived explanatory variables increases very quickly, and it is very important to select only few of the best performing ones and prevent overfitting at the same time. To perform selection of the explanatory variables, it is necessary to assess quality of the given sub-model. We use fractographic data to study performance of different information criteria and statistical tests as means of the sub-model quality measurement. Furthermore, to address overfitting, we provide recommendations based on a cross-validation analysis. Among other conclusions, we suggest the Bayesian Information Criterion, which favours sub-models fitting the data considerably well and does not lose the capability to generalize at the same time.

The Kendal Regency area is one of the areas on the northern coast of Central Java that has been experiencing rapid industrial development. The high human activity in this area will impact the quality of water in these surrounding areas and affect the fertility of the waters. The concentrations of chlorophyll-a (Chl-a) and total suspended matter (TSM) are major water quality parameters that can be retrieved using remotely sensed data. The retrieval satellite of the 3 OLCI chosen in this study has a 300 m spatial resolution. This study aimed to see the distribution and effect of total suspended matter (TSM) on chlorophyll-a based on measurement and retrieval of Sentinel 3 imagery using the linear regression method. The results show the chlorophyll-a distribution and the value from retrieval satellite are higher and occur over larger surface area compared to chlorophyll-a measurements. The linear regression model of chlorophyll-a by retrieval satellite imagery and measurement is y = 0.65x + 4.65 with R2 = 0.54. The presence of high amounts of suspended solids in the waters causes disturbances in the reflectance values, which are recorded by the retrieval of satellite. The model regression chlorophyll-a with TSM accuracy from retrieval satellite results in the equation y = -0.0416x + 5.14 (R2 = 0.45, p = 0.05, n = 13). The determination (R2) coefficient value is 0.445, which means that suspended solids have a 44.5% effect on chlorophyll-a and 55.5% is influenced by other factors and not examined in this study. The results show that TSM has an influence on the accuracy of chlorophyll-a and retrieval satellite recording can be disrupted if waters have high turbidity.

During preliminary stages of ship design, decisions on ship properties are made only with little knowledge on ship hull geometry – a ship designer has only the basis dimensions at his disposal. Therefore on these initial stages of ship design, methods of calculation of ship properties (eg. resistance) on the basis of basic design criteria are indispensable. The article presents a new method of calculation of bulk carriers resistance which proves exact even with a minimum number of geometrical parameters of a ship’s hull.

Opis:
Column flotation is a multivariable process. Its optimization guarantees the metallurgical yield of the process, expressed by the grade and recovery of the concentrate. The present work aimed at applying genetic algorithms (GAs) to optimize a pilot column flotation process which is characterized by being difficult to be optimized via conventional methods. A non-linear mathematical model was used to describe the dynamic behavior of the multivariable process. The solution of the optimization problem using conventional algorithms does not always lead to convergence because of the high dimensionality and non-linearity of the model. In order to deal with this process, the use of a genetic evolutionary algorithm is justified. In this way, GA was coupled with the multivariate non-linear regression (MNLR) of the column flotation metallurgical performance as a fitting function in order to optimize the column flotation process. Then, this kind of intelligent approach was verified by using mineral processing approaches such as Halbich’s upgrading curve. The aim of the optimization through GAs was searching for the process inputs that maximize the productivity of copper in the Sarcheshmeh pilot plant. In this case, the simulation optimization problem was defined as finding the best values for the froth height, chemical reagent dosage, wash water, air flow rate, air holdup, and Cu grade in rougher and column feed streams. The results indicated that GA was a robust and powerful search method to find the best values of the flotation column model parameters that lead to more reliable simulation predictions at a reasonable time. Based on the grade–recovery Halbich upgrading curve, the MNLR model coupled with GA can be used for determination of the flotation optimum conditions.

This paper proposes an enhancement approach to improve the accuracy of global Digital Elevation Models (GDEMs) in Egypt. The proposed approach is an empirical one that depends on subtracting the heights error from the original DEM. The research includes the evaluation and enhancement of SRTM-1 (SRTM v4.1), ASTER GDEM v2, and AW3D30 v2 GDEMs, in Egypt, using 980 well distributed GPS/levelling points, that cover the entire country. The GPS/levelling points are divided into 500 control and 390 check points. The results show that the root mean square error (RMSE) in the SRTM, ASTER and AW3D30 are 3.99 m, 8.81 m, and 2.98 m respectively. For enhancing purposes, two different approaches are used: a linear regression analysis approach, and the proposed empirical surface subtraction approach. The results of the linear regression analysis approach show that the accuracies are improved by 3%, 16%, and 3% for SRTM, ASTER and AW3D30 respectively. However, the accuracies are improved by 5%, 23%, and 16% for SRTM, ASTER and AW3D30 respectively when the proposed approach is followed. After using the proposed approach, the obtained accuracy of the enhanced DEM reached 2.5 m.

Opis:
Light sources and luminaires made in the LED technology are nowadays widely used in industry and at home. The use of these devices affects the operation of the power grid and energy efficiency. To estimate this impact, it is important to know the electrical parameters of light sources and luminaires, especially with the possibility of dimming. The article presents the results of measurements of electrical parameters as well as luminous flux of dimmable LED luminaires as a function of dimming and RMS supply voltage. On the basis of the performed measurements, a model of LED luminaire was developed for prediction of electrical parameters at set dimming values and RMS values of the supply voltage. The developed model of LED luminaire has 2 inputs and 26 outputs. This model is made based on 26 single models of electrical parameters, whose input signals are supply and control voltages. The linear regression method was used to develop the models. An example of the application of the developed model for the prediction of electrical parameters simulating the operation of an LED luminaire in an environment most similar to real working conditions is also presented.

This study integrated the overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) with the six sigma DMAIC method. The OEE was performed to measure the efficiency of the machine. Three factors were measured in OEE: availability, performance, and quality. These factors were calculated and compared to the OEE world-class value. Then, the Multiple Linear Regression was performed using SPSS to determine the correlation between measurement variables toward the OEE value. Lastly, the six sigma method was implemented through the DMAIC approach to find the solution and improve the packaging quality. Supposing the recommendations are implemented, the OEE is expected to increase from 82% to 85%, with availability ratio, performance ratio, and quality ratio at, 99%, 86%, and 99.8%, respectively.

The present work aimed to determine the performance of new cork-rubber composites, applying a modelling-based approach. The static and dynamic behaviour under compression of new composite isolation pads was determined using mathematical techniques. Linear regression was used to estimate apparent compression modulus and dynamic stiffness coefficient of compounds samples based on the effect of fillers, cork and other ingredients. Using the results obtained by regression models, finite element analysis (FEA) was applied to determine the behaviour of the same cork-rubber material but considering samples with different dimensions. The majority of the regression models presented R2 values above 90%. Also, a good agreement was found between the results obtained by the presented approach and previous experimental tests. Based on the developed methodology, the compression behaviour of new cork-rubber compounds can be accessed, improving product development stages.
