The aim of the article was to present the issue of financial exclusion and define sensitive areas of this phenomenon. The factors that may be relevant for measuring the degree of financial exclusion were analysed. An attempt was also made to determine the difficulties in access to financial services in the context of practices applied by both the supply and demand sides. In addition, barriers to the use of services were analysed as were financial products in terms of practices used by supply and demand. The typology of financial exclusion presented in the article is an attempt to define the type and scope of the phenomenon. Bank exclusion, credit exclusion and exclusion from the savings system are financial exclusion indicators. Each of those types of exclusion affects the economic and social level. Financial exclusion, which is one of the symptoms of the imbalance between demand and supply, is understood here as total or partial access to financial services offered by the market. The article also attempts to analyse the causes of exclusion with the division into supply and demand factors. The typology of financial exclusion proposed in the article may be a contributing factor to the reverse phenomenon, which is financial inclusion.

Social exclusion is a multidimensional phenomenon extending beyond poverty, unemployment, access to various goods and services, but also covering the scope of breakdown of social ties and a sense of isolation as well as dependence on others. This phenomenon affects various social groups, but seniors experience the effects of social exclusion in a special way. This article aims to show how the transport-related social exclusion of seniors influences their psychosocial functioning. The problem of transport-related exclusion in Poland currently affects 13.8 million people living in municipalities where there is no organized public transport. The article tries to answer the question about the extent to which the surveyed seniors experience transportation disadvantage and how the limited access to public transport affects their psychosocial functioning. The obtained results quite clearly indicate that the elderly experience many effects of transport-related exclusion, which has an impact on the quality of their life. The communication exclusion limits their access to health care, which results in decreasing their health. Seniors experience exclusion due to difficult access to public transport, goods and services that affect their life quality. Research shows that seniors feel dependent on others. Restricting contacts with family and friends causes them to feel lonely.

When helping another person we usually focus on what kind of help we offer and who we help. We often don’t pay attention to the person who offers help. The goal of this summary is to talk about that person – to show, who the volunteer is, in a specific context of street work with homeless people.[1] This article shows not only who streetworkers are, but it also shows their work ethics and their attitude towards the people they help. The research that has been done omits detailed stat analysis in order to focus full attention to parameters and indicators of this particular social study. Because of this process we manage to obtain a vivid and true image of a streetworker‘s agenda.[2]   [2] Lack of a more profound analysis is the result of having too small a sample for the research, and so analysis with the use of Student’s t-distribution test, chi-squared test, or testing the significance would not have much sense, and results of such analyses could not be extrapolated to a larger population. The study aimed at presenting a small but significant fragment of reality of supporting the homeless and it did not aspire to be a broad description of any population. The aim of the article is to respond to the question whether the subject of the story can exclude a homoerotic passion that he is possessed by. Jerzy Andrzejewski’s short story Niby gaj is used here to prove that a mechanism of self¬ exclusion is an illusion and it turns into its own reverse. The mechanism of exclusion helps the hero of the story to create a web made of attachments and dependencies. Michał (the adored object) embodies such a set of connections and acts as a lover who in this case turns against his antagonist.

Danger of Social Exclusion among Secondary School Students from the Lublin VoivodeshipTh e author presents the results of the survey conducted among nearly 900 secondaryschool students in the spring of 2011. Respondents were randomly selected fromschools located in the Lublin voivodeship. Th e diagnosis of threat of social exclusionhas been made using original questionnaire. To assess the range of danger of socialexclusion, there were used the shares of respondents characterized by values of individualindicators that point to the unfavorable situation in each of the dimensions(structural, fi nancial, social, emotional, educational). Moreover, author checked theintensity of danger (shaped by the coexistence of positive values of exclusion indicators)and explored whether gender and type of residence are important determinants.Analysis of the collected data showed that in some areas of social exclusion,there are threats to life chances of young people.

The article is intended to help in the legal processes undertaken by the Church’s tribunals. According to the can. 1555 of the Code of Canon Law, a party may request that a witness be excluded. The judge however, has the final authority to determine whether or not to exclude the witness. The right to present proofs, among which proposing witnesses is often the most important, is an integral element of the right of defense. Therefore, a party’s objection to the introduction of a witness must indicate a “just cause” for the exclusion. This cause would include claims that the witness is unsuitable or might include the contention that the witness has no relevant knowledge, that he or she has been coached, that his or her testimony may have been coerced or that the proposed witness is prejudiced. The possibility that the testimony of a witness might reflect negatively on the party is not a just cause for exclusion. “Just cause” for the exclusion must be shown before the questioning of the witness. There is doubt if a recourse against the decision of a judge to admit or to exclude the witness is to be made before that same judge or the collegiate tribunal or may only be appealed when the appeal is lodged jointly with an appeal of the definitive sentence.

Facebook as a new source of social exclusion in Web 2.0 eraSocial life in the 21st century is no longer composed simply of direct communication but also of technology-mediated one. Moreover, these two patterns of communication are both equally important. In such cyberreal world the Internet not only is the equalizing force which reduces traditionally understood social divisions but also offers additional opportunities and creates a new kind of social exclusion – the social network exclusion. The main aim of this article is an analysis of the mechanisms created by Facebook that exclude and limit the access to its content, as compared with the traditional forms of social life and exclusion. Facebook jako źródło wykluczenia społecznego ery Web 2.0W XXI wieku życie społeczne opiera się już nie tylko na komunikacji bezpośredniej, ale jest również zapośredniczone cyfrowo, przy czym obie te sfery są sobie równoważne. W tak rozumianym cyberrealnym świecie internet nie jest wyłącznie siłą zacierającą tradycyjne podziały społeczne, lecz oferuje techniczne możliwości i sprzyja tworzeniu nowego typu wykluczenia – społecznościowego. Głównym celem niniejszego artykułu jest analiza portalu Facebook pod kątem mechanizmów wykluczających i ograniczających dostęp do zgromadzonych w serwisie treści w kontekście tradycyjnych form życia i wykluczenia społecznego.

Opis:

Poland occupies the penultimate place (39) among the countries with the highest Human Development Index in the United Nations ranking concerning the quality of life. However, in comparison to the situation from previous years, Poland has achieved impressive civilization promotion which led to double increase the value of real gross domestic product in the last two decades. An important role in maintaining the economic growth in Poland has played a well-functioning financial market, which was reactivated after almost half a century break. During transformation period in Poland financial market has developed rapidly and faster than the real economy. However, the economic indicators which describe the potential strength of financial institutions in Poland are worse than in the Czech Republic and Hungary, which lead to social turbulences and as a result high percentage of Poles is affected by financial exclusion. The main aim of these considerations is to diagnose the reasons that cause the phenomenon of financial exclusion, identify the threats of rapidly increasing dependence of the banking sector and other institutional sectors of the Polish economy from the financial supply from external sources.

The article presents problem of social difference and the related mechanisms of exclusion. The paper shows the process how the difference needed in the world is born inequality, discrimination, human suffering, often as unwanted and unintended consequences of group processes. The factor differentiating way to experience the social difference and forms of engagement in reality, is the human identity. The text presents the arguments in favor of the thesis that the difference does not necessarily lead to inequality, and a key role in this process is the identity of the man, with his basic need of recognition. Educational activities are considered an important factor in institutional support in this process. Gwałtowny rozwój technologii, coraz większa popularność sieci Internet, łatwiejsza dostępność urządzeń zdalnego dostępu do Internetu jak komputery, tablety, smartfony, a także ułatwiony dostęp do szerokiej gamy informacji spowodował znaczne zróżnicowanie i przeobrażanie się społeczeństwa. Obecnie możemy mówić o społeczeństwie informacyjnym, gdzie główną wartością jest informacja i usługi z nią związane. Obserwuje się przenoszenie wielu tradycyjnych usług do sieci Internet i rozwijanie już tam istniejących. Część społeczeństwa została pozbawiona z różnych przyczyn możliwości pełnego uczestniczenia w wielu aspektach życia. Wyznacznikiem poziomu rozwoju cywilizacji jest dostęp obywateli do nowoczesnych technologii i stopień ich użycia. Dla części społeczeństwa zdobycie informacji jest szybkie, proste i niezależne od elementów takich jak czas czy miejsce. Druga część społeczeństwa, w związku z brakiem takich możliwości, podlega wykluczeniu cyfrowemu. Wykluczenie cyfrowe pociąga za sobą inny rodzaj wykluczenia dotyczącego braku możliwości skorzystania z usług bankowych opartych na sieci Internet, czyli podlegają wykluczeniu finansowemu. W pracy przeprowadzono analizę porównawczą Norwegii i Polski, odwołując się również do średniej dla Unii Europejskiej, pod kątem wykluczenia cyfrowo-finansowego, możliwości dostępu do informacji dostarczanej za pośrednictwem sieci Internet i czynników kształtujących i różnicujących te kraje, z uwzględnieniem aspektu bankowości internetowej, jako głównej przyczyny wykluczenia finansowego. W pracy zwrócono również uwagę na aspekt związany z bezpieczeństwem i stratami finansowymi, co może się przekładać na stopień wykluczenia finansowego.
Dynamic development of technology, increasing popularity of Internet, better availability of devices allowing easy access to Internet such as laptops, tablets or smartphones, as well as easy access to broad spectrum of information, has caused significant diversification and transformation of the society. Nowadays we can talk about information society where the main value is information and the services associated with it. A trend is being observed of moving traditional services into the Internet and developing services being there already. Part of the society has been deprived of, for various reasons, the possibility to actively participate in many aspects of the public life. An indication of civilization’s development level is the access of its citizens to modern technologies and their usage. For one part of the society, getting information is quick, simple and independent from factors like time and location. The other part of the society, due to the lack of such capabilities, is digitally excluded. This digital divide causes yet another type of exclusion – inability to access Internet banking services – financial exclusion. In this paper comparative analysis of Poland and Norway has been conducted (also referring to the EU average) regarding the digital and financial exclusion, accessibility of information available in the Internet, factors differentiating those two countries, especially the usage of Internet banking, treated as the main cause for financial exclusion. Security and financial losses aspects have also been discussed in this paper – as one of the potential drivers of the financial exclusion.

Opis:

The presented sentence of the Roman Rota, to which the author provides a comment, concerns nullitatis matrimonii, which was heard by the turnus c. Monier on the grounds of exclusion by the female defendant of the indissolubility of marriage and offspring. This sentence was passed by another instance, after obtaining by the male claimant nova proposition causae (in the first and third instance the sentence was negative, in the second instance it was positive); the defendant failed to attend all three instances. However, her testimony given in c. Monier instance, fully confirmed by the claimant and witnesses, unequivocally demonstrated that she simulated marriage consent – both in reference to bonum sacamenti and bonum prolis (the reason for both simulations were her beliefs concerning marriage and its procreative purpose, which deviated from the teaching of the Church). The sentence of the Roman Rota c. Monier is an example of an in-depth assessment of means of proof, which enabled to convincingly declare the nullity of marriage.

Aim. The aim of this thesis is to present the impact of students exclusion (including SPEs) on their virtual behaviour in social media. Students with no special educational needs and those with SEN were taken into account. The relationship between exclusion of SPE and digitisation exclusion will be indicated . In addition, social exclusion in the family area was included. Methods: The analysis was based on statistical methods, such as: range, standard deviation, variance. Surveys were used. They were conducted on the Internet through the Facebook social portal on a national and global scale. Results: Respondents from around the world feel more excluded by the SPE than respondents in Poland. In contrast, respondents from the SPE use fewer social networking sites than in groups of computer players, both in Poland and worldwide. Conclusions: In Poland, SPE is not a barrier to communication with peers for most respondents, unlike global respondents. Respondents from the SPE spend less time on social portals because it absorbs their time devoted to learning, which can be an indicator of digital exclusion. Cognitive value: The originality of the research is to focus on introducing the global and Polish scale of the problem excluding students from SPE from the social media, which was calculated by the author’s method based on the indicator digital exclusion.

One of the significant issues in Pope Francis's teachings is the culture of encounter. This is the opposite of the culture of rejection which is becoming more and more common. The phenomenon of marginalization of people because of different reasons has been known to the human civilization for ages but nowadays is becomes more widespread. According to Pope Francis, the main indications and the same time causes of the throwaway culture are: fake devotion, egoism, fear, selection, indifference, treating the old as a burden, discrimination, aversion to foreigners, war, death penalty. The Holy Father lists also the countermeasures against exclusion. These are: realizing that we were all created by the same Creator, reminding of human dignity, human solidarity, devoting time to others, acceptance, opening the heart to other people's needs.

Desde la fundación del género, en los filmes de George Romero (1968), la figura espectral, monstruosa y masiva de los zombis se ha hecho depositaria de aquellos significados que las diferentes coyunturas históricas han posibilitado, tanto desde el punto de vista de la producción como de la recepción. En la actualidad, los muertos vivos de las ficciones contemporáneas figuran a modo de imagen dialéctica, tensionada por el disenso, los efectos de las políticas inmunitarias sobre la vida de aquellos que la sociedad, para autopreservarse y constituirse como un todo idéntico a sí mismo, margina o estigmatiza por considerarlos peligrosos, contaminantes o desechables. En este sentido, los zombis de las narraciones literarias, gráficas y audiovisuales actuales nos interpelan. Abren el espacio de una interrogación que pone en cuestión la biopolítica que rige la vida y el retorno de lo reprimido con la forma de lo monstruoso amenazante. Las ficciones de muertos vivos emergen en la narrativa argentina de las primeras décadas del año 2000 y sus relatos replican, complejizan y ponen en crisis la matriz del género que se había cristalizado en la cultura de masas, aún en sus numerosas autoparodias. En efecto, el carácter proliferante, no lineal e irónico del discurso narrativo, atravesado por el dispositivo neobarroco de la repetición con variaciones fractales, agrega una nueva voluta al género y lo renueva explotando su potencial político en el espacio imaginario que se construye a partir de la coyuntura del 2001.

The judgment (pro nullitate matrimonii) was issued in the third instance (it was negative in the first instance and positive in the second instance) due to the exclusion bonum prolis (can. 1101 § 1 CIC) by the man. On the basis of testimonies of the petitioner and witnesses, after taking into consideration all circumstances, especially cause of simulation which was pessimistic view of the world and all entire life, Roman Rota judges had no doubt that the petitioner excluded the good of offspring by his positive act of will.

This paper provides a possible answer to the question of why so few people with disabilities enter the labor market. Introductory remarks on the importance of work and being employed in human life are followed by different definitions of disability. By reference to the basic facts about employing people with disabilities in Poland, the author identifies and examines the obstacles that make it difficult for a disabled person to get a job. Along with architectural barriers in the workplace and unfavorable attitude of the employers, there is another factor that narrows down the range of job offers available to disabled individuals: an average level of education in this group of people, comparing to others, is lower. As a consequence, job and life opportunities for this social group remain significantly limited.

Category of The Other and its instances are an obligatory element of the world’s visions constructed by social actors within many various discourses present in Polish modern social space. Discursive communities shape an attitude towards The Other that is compatible with worldview line of discourse to which they belong. The Other can be therefore perceived as The Second, coexisting beside The Yours. It can also be presented as The Stranger or even as The Enemy. This rule is valid in the nationalistic discourse where the strangeness is contrasted with hominess and it becomes one of the strategies of building the identity. It is also a strategy that places everything what is different not only beyond the discursive community’s boundaries but also beyond the national community.

Opis:

Contemporary tourism is a phenomenon on a global scale. The numer of participants in global tourism is constantly increasing. Only in 2018, 1.4 billion trips were made. Like all phenomena in the world, tourism is also constantly changing. Variation may concern travel directions, but also the reasons for it. Visiting areas of social exclusion and poverty are among the most original motives for travelling. The purpose of the publication is to show that slums around the world can be an important place for tourist reception, while being places with a specific quality. Research methods used in the work are literary criticism and analysis of existing data. The publication was written using compact data, scientific articles and netographic data. The results of the scientific analysis clearly show that slums as tourist destinations bring with them a varied tourist valorization, including the opportunity to get to know local entrepreneurship, organization of everyday life, difficult life or survival in specific living conditions.
Współczesna turystyka stanowi zjawisko i fenomen na skalę globalną. Liczba uczestników światowego ruchu turystycznego nieustannie wzrasta. Tylko w 2018 roku odbyto 1,4 miliarda podróży. Tak jak wszystkie zjawiska na świecie, tak również i turystykę cechuje nieustanna zmienność. Zmienność może dotyczyć kierunków odbywania podróży, ale także przyczyn jej uprawiania. Do najbardziej oryginalnych motywów odbywania wyjazdów turystycznych zaliczyć można odwiedzanie obszarów wykluczenia społecznego i biedy. Celem publikacji jest wykazanie, że slumsy na obszarze całego świata mogą stanowić istotne miejsce recepcji turystycznej, będąc jednocześnie miejscami o wyraźnej specyfice. Metody badawcze zastosowane w pracy to krytyka piśmiennicza oraz analiza danych zastanych. Publikacja została napisana przy wykorzystaniu danych zwartych, artykułów naukowych oraz danych netograficznych. Wyniki analizy naukowej wskazują wyraźnie, że slumsy jako cele wyjazdów turystycznych niosą ze sobą zróżnicowaną waloryzację turystyczną, w tym możliwość poznania miejscowej przedsiębiorczości, organizacji codziennego, niełatwego życia czy też przetrwania w specyficznych warunkach bytowych.

Problematyka wykluczenia finansowego stanowi istotny obszar badań we współczesnej nauce finansów głownie ze względu na poważne skutki jakie zjawisko to implikuje zarówno w makro (dla gospodarki, sektora finansowego), jak i mikro skali (dla konsumentów usług finansowych). Obserwując zmiany w demografii (wydłużanie się życia, starzenie społeczeństw) oraz spadek prognozowanych stóp zastąpienia w bazowych systemach emerytalnych szczególnego znaczenia nabiera kategoria wykluczenia emerytalnego, polegająca na ograniczonym dostępie jednostek do produktów emerytalnych. Celem artykułu jest określenie istoty i miary wykluczenia emerytalnego oraz próba kwantyfikacji tego zjawiska w Polsce w latach 2006-2017. O oryginalności opracowania stanowi autorska definicja instytucjonalnego wykluczenia emerytalnego w szerokim i wąskim ujęciu, a także podjęta próba pomiaru instytucjonalnego wykluczenia emerytalnego w wąskim ujęciu obejmująca analizę zmian liczby uczestników dobrowolnych programów emerytalnych, wskaźników penetracji poszczególnych programów emerytalnych, oraz odsetka osób aktywnych ekonomicznie, nie korzystających z produktów emerytalnych.
The issue of financial exclusion is an important area of research in modern finance science, mainly due to the serious effects that this phenomenon implies in both the macro (for the economy and the financial sector) and micro scale (for consumers of financial services). Observing changes in demography (increasing life expectancy, aging of societies) and a drop in forecasted replacement rates in basic pension systems, the category of pension exclusion, which involves limited access of individuals to pension products, is of particular importance. The purpose of this paper is to determine the nature and measure of pension exclusion and attempt to quantify this phenomenon in Poland in the years 2006-2017. The originality of the study is the author’s definition of institutional pension exclusion in both a broad and narrow perspective, as well as the attempt to measure institutional retirement exclusion in specific avenues, including: the analysis of changes in the number of voluntary pension scheme participants, penetration rates for individual pension programs and the percentage of economically active people not using pension products.

Zarówno doktryna, jak i orzecznictwo wskazują, że wykluczenie dobra wierności musi dokonać się pozytywnym aktem woli, jednak przydatne w określeniu prawdziwej woli symulanta zdaje się być określenie relacji zachodzącej między wolą zawarcia małżeństwa a wolą wykluczenia dobra wierności. Ważne jest określenie tych przyczyn, zarówno dalszych, jak i bliższych. Orzecznictwo wskazuje nie tylko na zaburzenia czy anomalie psychoseksualne, ale w obecnym czasie znaczenie posiada przede wszystkim mentalność współczesnych ludzi, propagujących idee wolności seksualnej, które w niektórych przypadkach mogą osiągać znamiona osobowości zdeprawowanej. Przyczyny bliższe są bardzo różne w zależności od  przypadku, choć do najczęstszych zalicza się chęć utrzymania relacji pozamałżeńskiej z osobą, z którą kontrahent był związany przed zawarciem małżeństwa.
Both the doctrine and the jurisprudence indicate that the exclusion of the good of faithfulness must be done by a positive act of will, but it seems useful in determining the true will of the simulator to define the relationship between the will to marry and the will to exclude the good of faithfulness. It is important to identify these causes, both further and closer. Among other reasons, jurisprudence indicates not only psychosexual disorders or anomalies, but at the present time, first and foremost, the mentality of modern people promoting the idea of sexual freedom, which in some cases can become a depraved personality. The reasons are very different depending on the case, although the most common is the desire to maintain an extramarital relationship with the person with whom the contractor was related before entering into marriage.

It is accompanied by comparisons to other aliyot, in particular Mizrahi Jews and post-Soviet Jews. By analyzing the power dynamics that define Ethiopian Israelis’ status within Israel’s imagined community, this paper seeks to unveil the reasons behind their marginalization in the country, in particular focusing on the construction of Israeli national discourse. The article analyses the mode of establishing and recording the process of poetry valuation in Zarys literatury polskiej z ostatnich lat szesnastu [An outline of the literature of the last sixteen years] written by Piotr Chmielowski, as well as the textual strategies of the author that modeled the transformations in the discourse of the author. It is proved in the article that in the Chmielowski’s disquisitions the problem of evaluation is just as important as the evaluation as a problem. The evaluation of poetry conducted by the critic was an element of self-identification of the generation of ”young poets” that he himself represented, as well as a proof for their longing for grand poetry, discomfort resulting from lack of authority figures and difficulties in expressing one’s own or/and national suffering. The use of the so-called ”argument of poetry” has been recognized here as a distinctive feature of Chmielowski’s idiolect that serves to dynamize his critical writings.

Opis:

The progress of digitization and the development of new technologies undoubtedly bring many benefits. However, they can also create or deepen problems related to the social exclusion of certain groups of people, such as the elderly, for whom modern technology is still largely unavailable, and even arouses a sense of uncertainty and fear (the so-called technophobia). The consequences of such a phenomenon become particularly evident in the situation of social isolation, whose unprecedented dimension is currently observed in the so-called COVID-19 pandemic era. In particular, the occurrence of the phenomenon of social exclusion combined with a pandemic situation has contributed to the development of the assumptions of the project entitled “Developing the cognitive capabilities of older people through information technology.” This project was developed by the INNOVATOR Student Science Club at the Faculty of Organization and Management of the Silesian University of Technology, and its goal is to develop a tool to support the acquisition of competences by seniors in the field of technological content, operation of electronic devices and the implementation of daily and routine activities using the Internet, e.g. shopping via the Internet or using tele advice services. The proposed tool is also to support the stimulation of the development of cognitive abilities of seniors using e.g. logical games. In the course of project implementation, a survey will be conducted in selected Nursing Homes, Retirement Homes, online forums for the elderly and through direct contact, the results of which will allow to learn the needs and possibilities of developing the abilities of the examined people, and assess the effectiveness of the designed tool in the process of transferring content and shaping competences. An element encouraging seniors to participate in the planned research will be their active participation in lectures and/or talks, workshops and discussions. The assumed result of the project will be to reduce the negative effects of isolation of seniors, improve their communication with their loved ones and reduce the generation gap. A complementary research task will be to develop a way to assess project results in qualitative and, where possible, quantitative dimensions.

School bullying also referred to as peer victimization is considered extremely harmful for all parties involved. It has been recognised as an important issue in Polish schools. This article presents the first stage of a project financed by the National Centre of Research and Development and includes the results of qualitative research conducted in groups of middle-school students, middle-school teachers and psychologists. The results highlight several factors leading to the exclusion from the dominant peer group. The results also indicate that although students are aware of the consequences of bullying and excluding behaviours, they do not implement this knowledge when explaining their own excluding actions. All results are discussed in terms of designing and implementing a data-based programme which would effectively mitigate excluding behaviours during middle-school transition.

The aim of the article is to present the situation of children in Poland in the light of the analysis of documents of public institutions and non-governmental organizations whose domain of activity is the protection of children’s rights. From time to time media reports frighten us about the events, which have similar, tragic scenarios – a student with a gun in their hand enters the school and his or her classmates, colleagues, teachers. The results of analyzes of fifteen school shootings in the United States, show that peer ostracism, intimidation, and love rejection, are the main determinants of these tragic events and experiencing social ostracism explained 87% of these cases (Leary et al., 2003). Ostracism hurts in the literal sense and mercilessly strikes the basic psychological needs. Consequently, the pain often leads to outbursts of irrational, socially unacceptable behavior (Williams, 2007). It is necessary, therefore, to focus on the consequences of being rejected by peers. This article raises the issue of youth coping strategies with ostracism.

The problem of social exclusion has remained the centre of attention in Europe for several years now. To emphasise its importance, year 2010 was European Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion. This significant social problem is existent in many domains. The term of social exclusions, used alternatively with social marginalisation has been in use since the 1960’s. Exclusion can be understood both as a status and as a process. Exclusion occurs when someone’s basic social laws cannot be respected. The state of Poland experiences poverty which results from the lack of means that would allow to fulfill basic needs which sometimes are exclusion’s both a cause and a consequence. One of the ‘faces’ of social exclusion is the financial one, understood as the lack of access to necessary financial services. However, there are many tools to prevent this form of exclusion. The author concentrated on those forms which are a social initiative, rather than the state’s. Therefore quasi barter tools, such as Local Exchange and Trade Systems (LETS) or time dollars as well as commercial tools known as social lending were analysed. The author also shows the meaning of initiatives such as slow life as well as co-housing indicating that local societies have a large and varied arsenal, that – if used properly – can prevent the ‘plaque of the 21st century’, as some call the social exclusion often stemming from the individual’s alienation. Those instruments indicate the important role of society’s self-organisation. Due to its origin it is in many cases much more effective than formal and by that inflexible state bodies’ activities. However, this does not mean that local societies should replace the state structures. They are, and should remain, complementary to state help.

This paper discusses the results of two empirical research projects on consumer micro-loans in Poland recently conducted at the Institute of Applied Social Sciences (University of Warsaw) and the Institute of Justice. The text summarizes the main findings of both studies and focuses on their main common thread: the various dimensions of social exclusion among average consumers who enter the loan market. The text argues that individuals who take consumer loans usually experience financial exclusion, which in turn prevents them from obtaining the cheaper credit available from banks. At the same time, by entering the loan market individuals de facto exclude themselves from effective legal protection (from courts and administrative bodies), which should be provided as an element of the rule of law in a democratic state. Building on these premises, the concept of “cascade exclusion” is proposed as an analytical framework for theses on interrelated dimensions of exclusion.

Artykuł podejmuje problem Inności w literaturze oraz stygmatyzacji i wykluczenia z przestrzeni publicznej tego, co odmienne, a przez to rozumiane jako zagrażające wszystkiemu, co swojskie i bliskie. Na podstawie dwóch powieści Isaaca Bashevisa Singera: Dwór i Spuścizna autorka wskazuje na uniwersalny mechanizm budowania obrazu Innego, definiowanego jako wroga. Stosunki polsko-żydowskie, kultura żydowska, a w niej zaakcentowana rola kobiet, stają się punktem wyjścia do rozmowy o współczesnych procesach społecznych. Kwestią priorytetową w kontekście kształcenia postaw otwartości, szacunku i akceptacji w kontakcie z Innym jest edukacja – zawężona tutaj do lekcji języka polskiego. Szkoła, w swoim instytucjonalnym i obligatoryjnym wymiarze, oraz świadomy swej roli nauczyciel mają moc inicjowania zmian w świadomości, przyzwyczajeniach i poglądach uczniów. Podczas lekcji z powieściami Singera autorka proponuje wykorzystać nauczanie bazujące na „utożsamianiu się”, szukaniu uniwersalnego wymiaru w działaniach i emocjach ludzi w określonych sytuacjach życiowych bez względu na przynależność kulturową czy płeć. Priorytetem tak rozumianej edukacji jest wyjście poza przestrzeń narracji i politycznego dyskursu wykluczenia. Celem zaś jest otwarty na odmienność, krytyczny wobec kultury własnej, ale i świadomy jej wartości obywatel.
In this article, Sylwia Kuraś addresses the problem of Otherness in literature and of the stigmatization and exclusion from the public space of what is different, and thus understood as a threat to everything that is familiar and local. Based on two novels by Isaac Bashevis Singer, The Manor and The Estate, Kuraś points to the universal mechanism of building the image of the Other as the enemy. Polish-Jewish relations, Jewish culture, and in it the accentuated role of women, become a starting point for a conversation about contemporary social processes. A priority issue in the context of instilling attitudes of openness, respect and acceptance in contact with the Other is education, which is limited here to lessons of Polish. The school, in its institutional and obligatory dimension, and the teacher who is aware of their role in this respect – these have the power to initiate changes in students’ awareness, habits, and views. During the lesson about Singer’s novels, Kuraś suggests the use of teaching based on “identification”, i.e., looking for a universal dimension in the actions and emotions of people in specific life situations, regardless of their cultural affiliation and gender. The priority in education understood in this way is to go beyond the space of narrative and political discourse of exclusion. The goal is a citizen who is open to difference, critical of their own culture, but also aware of its value.

Marginalizacja i wykluczenie postrzegane są jako jedne z najważniejszych kwestii społecznych obecnych czasów. Występują one w obrębie poszczególnych krajów, regionów, jak i całego świata. Stały się także ważnymi kategoriami politycznymi. Konieczne są więc działania zmierzające do likwidacji zarówno skutków marginalizacji i wykluczenia, jak i, a może przede wszystkim, przyczyn. Jednym z najbardziej skutecznych sposobów w tym względzie jest edukacja dla wszystkich przez całe życie, która umożliwia nie tylko pozostawanie poza kręgiem zmarginalizowanych i wykluczonych, ale wyjście z niego tych wszystkich, którzy z różnych powodów w nim się znaleźli.
Marginalization and exclusion are perceived to be some of the most significant social issues of modern times. They occur both within particular countries and globally; they have also become important political categories. Thus, there is the need to undertake actions aiming at eliminating both the results of marginalization and exclusion, and their causes. One of the most effective ways of doing that is providing lifelong education for everyone, which allows a person to remain outside the circle of the marginalized and excluded ones, as well as to exit the circle, if one has already become its part.

Opis:

Polish legislator has defined social employment as providing certain categories of people who are threatened or affected by social exclusion (e.g. unemployment, homeless or addicted) with some opportunities to either participate in workshops that are run in centres for social integration clubs or take up supported employment. Social employment understood in this way is to aim at social reintegration that leads to restoring and maintaining the skills to participate in the life of a particular local community, and to perform social roles in one's place of work and domicile. In addition, social employment is supposed to result in vocational reintegration that leads to restoring the abilities to provide work on the labour market. The legal institution in question is, therefore, linked to a new meaning of employment that goes beyond the Polish Labour Code provisions. As it has been agreed, work is not only a source of income but it also may help one's recovery of employability and self-confidence.

Opis:

Writer raise an issue on inclusion and exclusion in three different levels. The firs level represents fulfiling child’s individual needs, the second level is about protection of other children’s interests and needs. Third level stends for actual social context with its own possibilities and limits. Writer points out the fact that ideology and its proclamations often don’t mach the applied proffesional solution. Experts face the pressure of political ambitions. Author gives several particular examples of “segregation” of – Romany (gypsy) ethnic minority, mentally disadvantaged children, disadvantaged children of intact popolation, international adoption. The writer is conviced that child in foster care is a part of whole children assembly and it is not appropriate to narrow the search for the optimal solution only for the child in foster care.

The papers in this volume illustrate how using resources from the past can be a response to the threats of what is seen as external influence. Food uncertainty often concerns the global economy, the capitalist system, the transforming production and distribution system, new technologies, selling and marketing methods, etc. Therefore, the lack of trust is directed not only toward cultural dynamics of late modernity, but also toward domination of the Western centre of the food system. The resistance embedded in food fears has not only temporal, but also spatial and political dimensions. Openly expressed food fears as well as informal, bottom-up alternative-seeking in certain contexts can be then interpreted as indirect criticismof the transformations the Polish economy and culture have been undergoing.

Określając sposoby przeciwdziałania wykluczeniu cyfrowemu, autorka odwołuje się do Programu Operacyjnego Polska Cyfrowa. Ponadto autorka przedstawia wyniki wykonanej przez siebie analizy dotyczącej przeciwdziałania wykluczeniu cyfrowemu na obszarach wiejskich.

Opis:

Dominant theological thinking within the ecumenical movement emphasizes significance of theology and churches for the processeses of upholding more just and egalitarian social structures. According to ecumenists, theological reflection should be contextual, “from the grassroots” and referring to the given cultural, economic and social conditions. An example is the Dalit theology. It is developed by the social group who experienced, down the centuries, total social exclusion due to the Indian caste system. Article discussses the key elements of the Dalit theology, presents its context and describes its significance for the social movement of the Dalit emancipation.

Opis:

The relationship to Romani people is characterised by deeply rooted negative stereotypes and significant distance between them and the Polish people. Comparative research on representative groups of Polish, Czech, Slovak and Hungarian people showed that Poles declare relatively better attitude towards the Romani than other nations. The article presents the results of research conducted in 2013 among students of Higher School of Business National-Louis University in Nowy Sącz, Poland. The place was selected due to the fact that in Nowy Sącz and its vicinity there is a large number of people from the group that is considered to be the poorest among the Romani – Bergitka Roma. Although nearly 60% of the respondents have contacts with Romani people, their opinions reveal negative stereotypes, declared distance and the view that the Romani people should be excluded from political elections, which is held by 20% of the respondents.

Background: The main aim of the presented study is to identify the relationship between loneliness and life satisfaction of seniors. It was expected that high score of loneliness will correspond to lower score of satisfaction with life. Methods: The group consisted of 161 people (53 male and 108 female, age range 60-105 years old) took part in this study. The data was collected using following tools: UCLA Loneliness Scale by Russell, Peplau and Cutrona, Attitude Profile-Revised LAP-R by Reker and a survey of our own authorship allows to collect socio-demographic data. Correlation and regression methods have been used to find relationship between the variables. Findings: Results of the study show some correlations between loneliness and satisfaction with life (r=0,49 for social connections, r=0,57 for belonging to social group, r=-0,53 for lack of contact). Furthermore, regression analysis shows that lack of contact, social connections and sense of belonging explain about 94% of the variance of life satisfaction. Discussion: The implementation of these results to the psychological care for the elderly might contribute to improving their quality of life.

The social assistance system faces challenges related to the emergence of new problems (e.g., migration processes, military conflicts). The ACTTE project was prepared in response to these needs. It is based on the Empowerment concept, which emphasises the social strengthening and restoration of people’s total possible participation. One of the project’s tasks was to conduct research. Its methodology was based on the action research concept. As part of the research, interviews were conducted. Artykuł stanowi przegląd wiedzy na temat problematyki wykluczenia społecznego. Przedstawiono w nim dominujące modele teoretyczne opisujące to zjawisko. Omówiono znaczenie i wartość przynależności i wsparcia grupy społecznej. Następnie zaprezentowano możliwe skutki wykluczenia społecznego, wskazując na jego negatywne konsekwencje. Przedstawiono również wyniki badań, świadczące o istnieniu dwóch różnych sposobów postępowania jako skutków wykluczenia: agresji lub zachowań prospołecznych. Zaprezentowano także kierunki dalszych badań nad fenomenem ostracyzmu.
The article provides an overview of knowledge on social exclusion. It presents the dominant theoretical models describing this phenomenon. The meaning and importance of the sense of belonging and social support from a group is discussed. The possible consequences of social exclusion are then presented, and particularly the negative outcomes are highlighted. Both empirical findings and real life examples showing the occurrence of two different responses to social exclusion: aggression and prosocial behavior are described. Finally, the directions of further research on the ostracism phenomenon are presented.

Istnieją rozmaite rodzaje wykluczenia społecznego odnoszące się do życia poza nawiasem społeczeństwa. Procesu ukształtowanego przez miejsce w strukturze społecznej, przez przeszłe doświadczenia życiowe i oczekiwania. Koresponduje z nimi to najbardziej dramatyczne: wykluczenie z życia, czyli śmierć samobójcza. Jest ona dla socjologa (od czasów Emila Durkheima) najlepszym miernikiem integracji i kondycji społeczeństwa. Analiza trendów śmierci samobójczej w latach 1951–2013 wskazuje na ich systematyczny wzrost w tym czasie (o 400%) z wyjątkiem roku 1981 i przełomu 1989/1990, kiedy spadły one o 1/3. Było to niewątpliwie skutkiem nadziei związanych z Solidarnością i zmianą politycznego ustroju kraju. W latach 90. współczynniki śmierci samobójczych wykazują stabilizację z niewielkim wzrostem. Od roku 2009 nastąpił gwałtowny wzrost: z około 5000 do ponad 6000 rocznie. Uderzająca jest dysproporcja w zakresie płci. Polska jest jedynym na świecie krajem, w którym śmiercią samobójczą umiera aż sześciu mężczyzn na jedną kobietę. Skutkuje to określaniem Polski jako kraju silnych kobiet i coraz słabszych mężczyzn.
There are several types of social exclusion which describe the fact of living on the margin of the society. Social exclusion process is shaped by the position in the social structure, past life experiences and expectations, and relates also to exclusion from life - the most dramatic of all, and manifested by suicide. For a sociologist (since the time of Emile Durkheim) this is the best measure of social integration and the condition of the society itself. The analysis of suicide tendencies in 1951–2013 shows a systematic increase (by 400%), except for 1981 and the transition of 1989–1990, when there was a drop by 1/3. Undoubtedly, this drop was due to hopes brought by the Solidarity movement and the political transition in the country. In the 1990s, suicide ratios were generally stable, with some slight increases. Since 2009, there has been a sharp growth: from around 5,000 to 6,000 cases per year. Gender disparities are most striking here. Poland is the only country in the world where the female/male suicide ratio is one to six. This data gives rise to the assumption that Poland is the country of strong women and ever weaker men.

This aim of this article is to present the research process using the action research method in the project titled “Development  of  the  empowerment  of  educators  and  beneficiaries  in  the  field  of  youth  at  risk  and  social exclusion” implemented within the Erasmus Plus programme in which the author of this article participated. The process of operationalisation of the social exclusion category and the characteristics of the methodology of action research were performed in this article. The project objectives were set out and the team appointed to carry out the research on the issue of the development of the empowerment of educators and beneficiaries working with adults at risk of social exclusion was described. The article subjects the research process implemented by the team of investigators to analysis and identifies the turning points in this process. Conclusions concerning the specificity and usefulness of action research in searching for social practice solutions in the field of social exclusion have also been provided on the basis of practical experience.

The paper attempts to search for arguments justifying an educational strategy aiming at preventing a social exclusion of the disabled by building social capital. The research review shows that people with some disabilities present a low level of social participation, which indicates a fragile nature of social capital among members of this group. Therefore, it was assumed that a significant form of preventing social exclusion can be education that aims at developing social skills and the ability to cooperate of the disabled. Activating the resources of social capital and benefiting from them requires from people to cooperate and act in a coordinated manner.

Bezrobocie jest zjawiskiem analizowanym między innymi na gruncie ekonomii, i związane jest ze stanem nierównowagi jaki ma miejsce wówczas gdy popyt na pracę jest mniejszy niż jej podaż. Ta nierównowaga przekłada się wówczas na rosnącą wielkość zasobów dostępnej siły roboczej, niewykorzystywanej w procesach gospodarczych, która pomimo czynienia starań nie jest w stanie znaleźć miejsca zatrudnienia. Zjawisko bezrobocia w sposób szczególnie uciążliwy dotyka ludzi młodych, którzy nie dysponują wcale, bądź w ograniczonej skali doświadczeniem zawodowym, które może stanowić o atrakcyjności pracownika na runku pracy. Celem artykułu będzie próba analizy zjawiska bezrobocia z uwzględnieniem tych obszarów, które w nowej perspektywie unijnej. Strategia na rzecz inteligentnego rozwoju, sprzyjającego włączeniu społecznemu, Europa 2020, znajdują szczególnie miejsce – chodzi o obszar wykluczenia społecznego.
Unemployment is a phenomenon widely considered in the field of economics, and it is related to the state of imbalance that occurs when the demand for labor is less than its supply. This imbalance then translates into an increasing amount of available human labor resources, not used in economic processes, who, despite efforts, are unable to find a place of employment. The phenomenon of unemploy-ment in a particularly burdensome way affects young people with none or limited professional experience, which may determine the attractiveness of a prospective worker on the labor market. The aim of the article is an attempt to analyze the phenomenon of unemployment taking into account those areas which, from the new EU perspective, the 20202 Europe 2020 Strategy, belong to the area of social exclusion.

Third age is the period in which the person is withdrawn from the daily activities, such as workplace, resulting in the different psycho-social problems, such as dementia, agitation, anxiety, loneliness and social exclusion. These problems lead to people's psychological depression with its subsequent effects on their health. Exploring the psycho-social problems is of great importance, as this age is characterized by feelings of loneliness, fear, depression and isolation from themselves, unpleasant thoughts but it is also dominated by negative feelings.

In connection with that, full youth inclusion is necessary to under- take the cooperation of all age groups and implement the idea of intergeneration integration.

Purpose – The article was written to outline the State action (specifically central government’s) aimed at limiting financial exclusion in Poland in terms of sustainable and inclusive development in 2016-2019. Research method – In the article theoretical research is carried out on the basis of the subjective literature, existing legal requirements, international institutions’ and central government’s reports. Such research methods as descriptive analysis and inferential and inductive reasoning were used. First, financial exclusion is defined as a kind of social exclusion in the field of sustainable and inclusive development. Next, the author describes the most important central government’s activity aimed at limiting financial exclusion in 2016-2019 in three areas. It is analysed how the State affects household income through fiscal policy instruments. The most important legal regulations affecting entities offering financial services and their clients are also pointed out. Finally, the State activity aimed at improving financial education and financial allowance of the Polish people is described. Results – The article allows a better understanding of the State activity aimed at limiting financial exclusion in Poland undertaken in 2016-2019 with particular reference to fiscal policy instruments affecting household income. Originality / value – To the best of author’s knowledge, it is the only article concerning, as defined above, the three areas of the State activity aimed at limiting financial exclusion in Poland during the period considered, namely fiscal policy affecting household income; the most important legal regulations affecting entities offering financial services and their clients; improving financial education and financial allowance of the Polish people. It is very important considering sustainable and inclusive development.

The text concerns the symbolic-relational aspect of poverty’s social exclusion. It consists of two parts. In the paragraphs 1–3 the theoretical concepts are introduced. They focus on social exclusion and its linked phenomena: space, reproduction, consumption and giving up. Paragraph 4 describes the empirical research on preventing social exclusion caused by poverty. The example of warminsko-mazurskie voivodeship provides a number of actions, which are undertake to counter this problem – strategic planning, widening the access to public service, activation policy or social economy.

Przedmiotem artykułu jest zidentyfikowanie przypadków wykluczenia społecznego związanego z transportem zbiorowym w społecznościach lokalnych oraz poszukiwanie rozwiązań w tym zakresie uwzględniających koncepcje krajowe i zagraniczne. Mieszkańcy społeczności lokalnych mają prawo do pełnego uczestnictwa w życiu społeczeństwa. W ramach tego uczestnictwa podstawowe znaczenie mają dostęp do dóbr i usług, w tym w szczególności środków transportu. Opracowanie analizuje potrzebę zapewnienia lokalnego organu regulacyjnego w celu nadzorowania i koordynowania starań o równy dostęp do transportu. Bada również już istniejące rozwiązania regulacyjne na poziomie lokalnym. W ramach analizowanej problematyki należy rozważyć uwolnienie przedsiębiorczego potencjału dotychczas ograniczonego przez ustawodawcę przekonanego, że jedynym rozwiązaniem jest wspieranie tradycyjnych form transportu w oparciu o ustalone trasy i rozkłady jazdy oraz pomoc publiczną. Bez uszczerbku dla takich form organizacyjnych, potrzebne jest bardziej zindywidualizowane podejście, osiągalne w nowym modelu gospodarki rozproszonej, powszechnie znanej jako gospodarka współdzielona. Polityka transportowa powinna być również bardziej otwarta na nowe technologie mające zastosowanie w transporcie.
This article aims to identify the instances of transport-related social exclusion in local communities and seeks solutions, to include domestic and foreign concepts. It claims that the inhabitants of local communities have the right to inclusion and explores the ways of achieving it. It considers the need to provide a local regulatory body created by local governments to oversee and coordinate the efforts to grant an equal access to transportation. It also explores the already existing regulatory features at the local level. It is recommended to free the entrepreneurial potential so far restricted by lawmakers convinced that the only solution is to support traditional forms of transportation based established routs and timetables as well as public aid. Without prejudice to such organizational forms, more individualized approached is needed, achievable within the new model of dispersed economy, more commonly known as shared economy. The transportation policy also needs to be more open to new technologies applicable in transportation such as drones and autonomous vehicles.

Research background: According to the World Bank (2020), about 60% of adults in developing countries do not use formal financial services. Furthermore, according to the Polish Association of Loan Institutions (2022), about 3 million Poles use loans, most of them obtained online. Among the reasons for more than a decade of growth of interest in the non-bank consumer lending market there are the development of modern technology applications in finance and the establishment of the Lendtech sector. Purpose of the article: The main goal of the paper is to verify the role played by the Lendtech (LT) sector in the consumer credit market in the context of household financial exclusion. The following research questions were asked: Do credit-excluded households take advantage of LT services and, if so, to what extent? What are the behaviours and preferences of those who use consumer credit offered by LT? Do socio-demographic characteristics determine consumer use of loans offered by LT and, if so, what are they? Is the use of loans offered by LT due to credit exclusion or other factors? What action should be taken by participants in the digital consumer loan market interested in its inclusive direction? Methods: The paper uses the following methods: critical analysis of the literature, Kruskal-Wallis test, Mann-Whitney test, and nonparametric regression algorithm: k-nearest neighbors, as well as inductive inference methods. The data used is primary in nature and comes from a nationwide survey, September 2022 (CAWI method) of 1,200 Poles, of whom 200 respondents are Lendtech customers. The quota selection applied made it possible to reflect characteristics corresponding to the population of customers of lending institutions registered in BIK databases. Findings & value added: The article is a pioneering study based on an independent scientific survey, devoted to the Polish LT services market considered in terms of its relationship with one of the types of financial exclusion: credit exclusion. The most important conclusion is that people at risk of credit exclusion find a financing substitute in the LT sector, and thus it plays an important role in reducing financial exclusion, while maintaining the principle of creditworthiness verification.

Purpose: The scientific objective of this research was to determine social groups affected by exclusion in Polish health care. Materials and methods: Survey was carried out among local government units and nongovernmental organizations by using authorial questionnaire distributed towards representative research group selected. Results: This work depicts activities of social welfare centers in cooperation with non-profit sector entities, in the field of exclusion from the access to health care benefits in Poland, appointing circumstances, causes and the range of this exclusion. It presents the results of the countrywide research in the context of structure and tasks of the health care, but also two points of view (institutional and social one) for resolving the same population issues. Conclusions: On the basis of the conducted analyses it has been stated that social exclusion, in the field of health care, is a significant social problem, but the biggest difficulty is the access to the rehabilitation benefits and pharmacological therapy

Purpose: Digitalisation of healthcare in Poland which covers e-prescriptions, e-referrals, and shar ing electronic medical records (EMR) on the P1 platform3 is supposed to be fully completed and implemented from 1 January 2021. The success of that implementation is strictly connected to the level of digital skills of both healthcare providers and healthcare service users. The purpose of the present paper is to indicate potential problems which may arise from the digitalisation of healthcare in social groups which are not adapted to using information and communication technologies (ICT) in their day-to-day lives, especially in case of the elderly. Methodology: In order to indicate a potentially high level of digital exclusion in society, secondary data collected by Eurostat, Statistics Poland and CBOS4 were used. Problems in the healthcare sector, including those resulting from the digitalisation implemented in Poland, were presented against the backdrop of the changing law which applies here. Findings: The introduction of digital solutions in the healthcare sector in Poland, including EMR, e-referrals, and e-prescriptions, was postponed numerous times, which can indicate the lack of the proper preparation of providers for a digital revolution. However, a potentially greater problem may lie with healthcare service users, especially considering the fact that such services are used mostly by the elderly. The phenomenon of digital exclusion, generally associated with the lack of skills neces sary for using ICT, is frequently observed particularly among senior citizens. It can lead to social isolation which is a risk factor that influences the health of senior citizens and the quality of their lives. Originality/value: Some of the issues resulting from the adopted solutions and the legislation govern ing healthcare in Poland, including the digitalisation of said healthcare, and proposals for amend ments in this regard were provided in this interdisciplinary paper. It seems that those solutions could be used to reduce the threats of the digital exclusion of a significant part of Polish society, particularly in the group of seniors.

This study examines the use of online humour in a subversive local community Facebook group set up in 2017 by disgruntled members banned from a similar group “in opposition to [the original group’s] arbitrarily-applied rules, [its] enforced happiness, and [its] suppression of any post that isn't about giving away lemons or asking to borrow small appliances”. The dissatisfaction with the guidelines and the administration of the original Facebook group provides rich material for humorous posts in the new group, many with varying degrees of aggression directed at the founder and certain members of the “Dark Side”, as the original group is frequently referred to.  This article will demonstrate how the use of humour in this new rival Facebook group is used for the purposes of inclusion and exclusion, and how it contributes to a sense of belonging in this online community of practice (Lave & Wenger 1991) created by a small group of self-declared dissidents. It will be shown how the humour shapes the identity of the group through the members’ shared ideologies and beliefs (Tanskanen 2018), and how the humorous messages intended to denigrate and belittle the “Dark Side” reinforce unity among the group members, since the feeling of superiority over those being ridiculed coexists with a feeling of belonging (Billig 2005). Fifteen single comments or multi-post threads were chosen for analysis. These appeared during the first twenty months of this rival group’s existence, and included primarily affiliative and/or aggressive humour (Meyer 2015) directed at the original group. The analysis was carried out using elements of computer-mediated discourse analysis (Herring 2004), and an insider participant-observer online ethnographic approach. The examples chosen illustrate how the humour is used to unite the members of this subversive group by dividing them from the original one, to create the joking culture (Fine and de Soucey 2005) of the new group, and in so doing, creates and sustains the members’ shared identity as irreverent breakaway troublemakers.

This is an essay about Łódź Kaliska, an alternative group of artists who created an autonomic structure in the 1980s in Lodz. It was an artistic shelter providing space for operating away from official, mainstream structures and culture enforced by the state. The venue was transformed into a shelter and sanctuary for creative individuals who desired to lead a free life of completely unlimited expression. Attempts were made to open a local dialogue on creative life in a controlled society. Following the “Do It Yourself” (DIY) idea, they organized independent cinematography festivals, concerts, performances and social meetings. It is the oldest artistic collective operating in Poland and probably one of the oldest in the world. This year we are celebrating the 40th anniversary of the group. Today, in times of superficial relationships, the role of bodily co-presence in developing interpersonal trust is worth remembering. In real life, commitment to the community is also a result of bodily performance. The physical experience of closeness is conducive for putting a stop to isolation, creating a sense of closeness and security and strengthening the bonds of bodies willing to talk to each other, to create, to play and laugh. The essence of that world comes down to artistic coexistence, intentional existence of opposite axiological systems and cultural dialogue.

The article presents the disturbing phenomenon of discrimination, exclusion of older people from the social life and the ways of preventing these phenomena through education. Artykuł przedstawia niepokojące zjawisko dyskryminacji, wykluczania osób starszych z przestrzeni życia społecznego oraz sposoby przeciwdziałania tym zjawiskom przez edukację. Należy stworzyć dla osób starszych przystosowaną do ich potrzeb i możliwości ofertę edukacyjną, w przeciwnym przypadku problem wykluczenia społecznego może się pogłębiać, a jego rozwiązanie w świecie coraz szybszych zmian może okazać się w przyszłości jeszcze trudniejsze. W artykule wykorzystano wyniki badań przeprowadzonych w ramach projektu realizowanego z programu „Uczenie się przez całe życie” – Grundtvig „Evaluation Toolkit on Seniors Education to Improve Their Quality of Life”.

Aim. The aim of the current study is to address a gap in literature as well as explore the factors influencing the perceptions that Kosovar students hold over their research skills. To that end, the study assessed students’ perceptions on their research abilities as well as the variables which influence these perceptions, namely inclusion, exclusion, ethnicity, gender and parental education. Methods. The study employed the quantitative research approach and 303 Kosovar university students participated in the study by answering an instrument composed of three different scales measuring the variables in the study, namely the research skills scale, inclusion scale and exclusion scale. In addition the participants answered ten demographic questions. Participation in the study was on a volunteer basis and the results were analyzed with the SPSS package. Results. Participants in this study reported the highest levels of research skills when they reported being included in academic settings. Ethnicity was a powerful influencing variable. Participants who belonged to minority groups were the ones to report the lowest levels of abilities. Contrary to existing literature, gender did not influence perceptions on abilities. Additionally, unlike in a vast number of research studies, parental education did not influence perceptions that Kosovar students held over their research skills. Conclusions. This study is the first one to research skill acquisition among student populations in Kosovo; a region that is almost absent in international literature. This research presents an overview of variables predicting perceptions held by Kosovar students on their research skills with ethnicity and inclusion being detrimental to perceptions of research skills.

The main aim of this article is to review the theoretical concepts and selected studies relating to the stigmatization and exclusion of ill and disabled people, their sources, mechanisms and effects, with particular attention to the ethical dimension of this phenomenon. Psychological costs, understood as negative emotions, or some kind of psychological discomfort, are the result of differences between the states of the ideal and the real.Ill and disabled people are often subject to negative stereotypes that are unfounded, baseless, unjustified, unfair and harmful. It is very important to prevent stigmatization and social exclusion of these people, but to do this it is needed to diagnose the problem of stigmatization itself.

Advising is one of the fundamental duties of employees of banks, who sell financial products and services. It plays a key role in the context of making more rational decisions by customers, and most importantly it is not always a synonymous to the sale of banking products and services. The role of the bank advisor also includes an educational component associated with raising the level of financial awareness and substantive knowledge in the field of economics and finance. These activities can contribute both to perform the tasks of each employee of the bank, as well as limit the phenomenon of financial exclusion, at the basis of which is limited access to the individual banking products and services. The purpose of this article is to present the role of bank advisor in reducing the negative consequences of financial exclusion as well as to introduce point of views of bank advisors about the advising that they provide to clients in the banking sector.

The conclusions of the research undertaken – theoretical and empirical studies – undermine the hypothesis of digital exclusion of seniors perceived as the age group category. In the light of this research, it seems that education is the factor that influences the development of digital divide and digital inequalities within the community.

Nadrzędnymi zasadami etyki bibliotekarskiej, którymi powinien kierować się bibliotekarz jest służebna rola wobec użytkowników, ochrona wolności intelektualnej, prawa do swobodnego wyrażania myśli, prawa do swobodnego dostępu do wiedzy, informacji i kultury. Swoboda dostępu do zasobów biblioteki jest kluczowa dla realizacji tych postulatów. Żyjąc w kraju demokratycznym często nie zdajemy sobie sprawy z problemów wykluczenia bibliotecznego czy informacyjnego, ponieważ jawne zakazy korzystania z biblioteki należą do rzadkości. Mimo to istnieją i potencjalnie mogą istnieć różne nieformalne przyczyny wykluczenia obywateli z grona użytkowników biblioteki, ze względu na ich wiek, płeć, pochodzenie etniczne, wyznanie, niepełnosprawność i wiele innych. Problemy te zostały spotęgowane, jak wiele podobnych, przez pandemię. Wywierane są również mniej lub bardziej otwarte naciski na biblioteki, zmierzające do ograniczenia czytelnikom dostępu do treści, których nie pochwala taka czy inna grupa. Wreszcie sami bibliotekarze borykają się z problemem pogodzenia swobody wymiany myśli z potrzebą udostępniania rzetelnych informacji czytelnikom, którzy oczekują od biblioteki pewnej selekcji. Problem ten stał się szczególnie aktualny w kontekście informacji medycznej w okresie epidemii. Przedstawiony artykuł omawia te problemy, w szczególności skupiając się na pierwszym z nich – wykluczeniu bibliotecznym i sposobach jego ograniczenia.
Library exclusion before and during the pandemic. Serving the reader and protecting free speech (which also includes the passive right to access information) are the primary ethical values of librarianship. Freedom of access to library resources is key to meeting these goals. Living in a democratic country we are often unaware of library exclusion, as few overt restrictions exist. However, there are or potentially could be various obstacles to citizens making full use of library resources, stemming from their age, gender, ethnicity, religion, disability etc. These problems have been, like some many others of their ilk, laid bare by the pandemic. There are also more or less overt cases of pressuring libraries to limit readers’ access to speech that is by one group or another deemed immoral. At the same time, librarians themselves struggle with the problem of reconciling freedom of expression with providing readers with reliable information. A problem that has become particularly prescient during the pandemic, when reliable medical information became a crucial resource. The presented article covers these issues, giving priority to the first one: library exclusion and ways of combating.

Today financial literacy and consciousness seems to be indispensable for the proper participation in the financial services market. In the face of the financialization process, the lack of or even insufficient financial knowledge and consciousness, can lead to serious consequences, including financial exclusion. Financial consciousness can be defined as a phenomenon connected with being aware of financial incidents and processes and having the capability to explore and evaluate these phenomena, or as a complex psychological formation acting to control one’s financial behaviour. Financial literacy is a part of financial consciousness. This article shows how and in what way financial literacy and consciousness are responsible for the financial exclusion diagnosed in the survey. The aim of the article is to answer the question whether the lack of or insufficient financial literacy can be responsible for financial exclusion.

The subject of our study is the positionality of children in the process of urban revitalization. We understand the city as a learning space. From our point of view changes introduced into that space are always interventions into children’s learning processes. In the article we present an empirically based reconstruction of practices of community cultural animations that aim at empowering children’s voice in the processes of revitalization. Konrad Dworakowski’s and Pinokio Theatre’s community cultural animations, realised from 2014 to 2019 in Łódź, offer interesting examples of such practices. Even though we build or argument on the basis of observations collected in Łódź, it can be reliably reflected in discussions on educational issues in urban changes in other post-industrial cities.

Voluntary involvement may be one of the most efficient instruments policy combating exclusion. By shaping proper civic attitudes, by a possibility of gaining professional experience and contacting various groups, people who are members of groups threatened with social exclusion have the possibility to test their chances at the labor market. The article presents the value of voluntary service as an efficient tool for counteracting social exclusion, especially with respect to young people who remain unemployed, and whose situation at the open labor market is unfavorable. Social and professional activation realized through voluntary service is presented in the context of integration activities of the European Union, as well as Polish documents referring to realization of the social cohesion policy.

Przy udzielaniu pomocy drugiemu człowiekowi najczęściej zwraca się uwagę na to, jaka forma pomocy jest świadczona oraz komu jest udzielana. Mniej atencji poświęca się osobom, które wsparcie niosą. Głównym zamierzeniem opracowania jest wskazanie na podmiot realizujący wsparcie – pokazanie, kim jest wolontariusz w bardzo specyficznym działaniu streetworkerskim w środowisku osób bezdomnych. Artykuł przedstawia nie tylko, kim są streetworkerzy, ale także jaki mają stosunek do swojej pracy, a tym samym do osób, którym pomagają. W badaniu pominięto szczegółową analizę statystyczną uzyskanych danych, chcąc wskazać głównie na określone parametry i wskaźniki określające badane środowisko. Dzięki takiemu zabiegowi uzyskano wyraźny obraz rzeczywistości streetworkera i jego codzienności w pracy.
When helping other person we usually focus on what kind of help we offer and who we help. We often don't pay attention to person, who offers help. The goal of this summary is to talk about that person – to show, who the volunteer is, in a specific context of street work with homeless people. This article shows not only, who street workers are, but it also shows their work ethics and their attitude towards people they help. The research that has been done omits detailed stat analysis in order to focus full attention to parameters and indicators of this particular social study. Because of this process we manage to obtain a vivid and true image of street worker‘s agenda.

Opis:

Marguerite Duras focuses on a rejected individual on the margins of society. Her literary characters oppose being perceived as devoid of autonomy, contesting the fixed model of a submissive and passive woman. On the contrary, they reject the social order and the traditional system of values, claiming the right to freedom and thus demonstrating transgressive female behaviour. Duras’ heroine, a mysterious, crazy person who is looking for love and is aware of her otherness and alienation, appears as a kind of femme fatale or a witch. This image of a “different woman – a disturbing, unhappy, lost, borderline person experiencing a specific crisis – is best illustrated by a beggar. She identifies, par excellence, with the wandering to the lands of perdition and its various readings. Her journey is, at the same time, a sign of dereliction, an attempt at liberation and a quest for identity.

The article addresses the language used in relation to pupils with Asperger syndrome at Polish schools. It is based on the conclusions from the analysis of interviews conducted with parents of children on the autism spectrum in two periods: in 2015–2020 (32 interviews conducted in person) and in 2022 (43 interviews conducted online). The results of the study show that numerous terms are used at schools with respect to pupils with Asperger’s syndrome that have an exclusionary, stigmatising and sometimes even vulgar nature. Unfortunately, such exclusionary language is often used not only by those pupils’ peers, but also by their teachers.

In this article the casus of NEET youth in current Polish society is presented. This term is used to describe youth at the age of 15 to 29, who are not active in labour market. NEETs are not in employment, education or training. The main aim of this work was to present the phenomenon of NEET in reference to social exclusion. An analysis of NEET in Europe in the last decade (2007-2017) has been made. This article also presents the causes and effects of this style life by the members of the mentioned group. The main bibliography was reports from Eurostat, which informed about situation of youth in labour market and periodical of social exclusion.
W niniejszym artykule przedstawiono casus młodzieży NEET we współczesnym społeczeństwie polskim. Terminem tym określani są młodzi dorośli w wieku 15-29 lat, którzy z różnych przyczyn wykazują bierność zawodową, tzn. nie pracują nie uczą się i nie uczestniczą w kursach podnoszących ich kwalifikacje zawodowe. Głównym celem podjętych rozważań było przedstawienie badanego zjawiska w odniesieniu do problemu wykluczenia społecznego. W pracy przeprowadzono analizę zjawiska NEET w Europie w skali porównawczej w okresie dekady 2007-2017. Przedmiotem refleksji były także uwarunkowania oraz skutki podejmowania takiego przez młodzież stylu życia przez młodzież. Podstawowe źródło badawcze stanowiły raporty Eurostatu na temat sytuacji NEET na rynku pracy oraz pozycje bibliograficzne z zakresu wykluczenia społecznego.

Proces obiektywnego wykreślania znaczenia pojęć-symboli odgrywa istotną rolę w edukacji, uczeniu, wychowaniu i powszechnej socjalizacji człowieka. Jest terenem zmagań transkulturowych, które prowadzić winny do obnażenia całkowitej prawdy o człowieku, rozpoznawaniu jego miejsca w historii świata. Ponadto nazywanie prawdy o sobie rodzi zaufaniei odpowiedzialność, a tym samym wyzwala stan afirmacji dla porządku prawa i sprawiedliwego państwa. Drogą autotelicznych przeżyć, wewnętrznych przeobrażeń i proaktywnej świadomości, ukierunkowuje się na podstawie języka i uniwersum symbolicznego, wzrastanie osobowe pozwalające integrować człowieka z otoczeniem, a nie tworzenie cywilizacji upadku oparte o niewolne istnienie. To słowo-klucz sprawia, iż ludzie spychani poza pole symboliczne i imaginarium pozbawieni są wolności emocjonalnej i prawa do swobodnego wyboru oraz własnej odpowiedzialności za czyn w celu zapewnienia wolności dla pozostałej części społeczeństwa, której wyobraźnia, percepcja, doznania i odczucia karmione są nienawiścią, pogardą i totalną izolacją.
The process of objectively deleting the meaning of ideas-symbols plays an important role in the education, teaching, upbringing and universal socialization of man. It is an area of transcultural struggle, which should lead to exposing the total truth about man, recognizing their place in the history of the world. In addition, naming the truth about oneself creates trust and responsibility and thus frees the state of affirmation for the rule of law and a just state. Via autotelic experiences, internal transformations and proactive consciousness, it is oriented on the basis of language and a symbolic universe, personal growth allowing to integrate the human being with the environment, and not to create a civilization of fall based on enslaved existence. This keyword means that people who are pushed outside the symbolic field and the imaginarium are deprived of emotional freedom and the right to freely choose and take responsibility for their actions in order to ensure freedom for the rest of society, the imagination, perception, sensations and feelings of which are fed by hatred, contempt and total isolation.

W trakcie przeprowadzonych analiz starano się zweryfikować hipotezę badawczą o istotnym znaczeniu przejawów wykluczenia cyfrowego pracowników zarówno dla całej organizacji, jak i samych uczestników procesu podejmowania decyzji. Podstawową metodą badawczą, wykorzystaną w opracowaniu była prezentacja wyników przeprowadzonych wcześniej badań.
The aim of the study is to show the main areas of digital exclusion of employees and their impact on undertaking effective and correct decisions in the organization, which may affect the improvement of its competitiveness. In the course of the conducted analyzes, it was tried to verify the research hypothesis about the importance of the manifestations of the digital exclusion of employees both for the entire organization and the participants of the decision making process. The basic research method used in the study was the presentation of the results of previous research.

Opis:

Kobieca muzyka (Women’s music) to określenie, które zwykło rozumieć się jako muzyka tworzona przez kobiety, muzyka dla kobiet i muzyka o kobietach. Takie rozumienie nie wyczerpuje jednak zagadnienia. W rzeczywistości nie chodzi tu bowiem wyłącznie o podział na muzykę damską i męską a o zwrócenie uwagi na relacje pomiędzy udziałem kobiet w szeroko rozumianej kulturze muzycznej i ich społeczną sytuacją, co jest jednym z podstawowych problemów badawczych muzykologii genderowej. Niniejsze opracowanie ma na celu ukazanie szczególnego typu wykluczenia społecznego kobiet. Odnosząc się do konkretnych przykładów zwraca uwagę na role, jakie kobiety pełnią w muzyce oraz wskazuje, że pomimo znaczących sukcesów w tej dziedzinie wciąż istnieją bariery przypisujące kobiecej muzyce określoną, wyznaczoną przez płeć, niższą jakość zawężając niekiedy ich udział wyłącznie do tematyki tekstów. Na uwagę zasługuje jednak fakt, iż coraz częściej w społeczeństwie spotyka się pogląd, że kultura muzyczna jest dla wszystkich, bo w muzyce nie płeć jest ważna, ale sama muzyka.
Women’s music is usually understood as the music made by women, music for women, and music about women. It doesn’t however exhaust the subject. In reality, it is not only about dividing music into women’s and men’s – it is about showing the relationship between culture of music and women’s situation in society, which is one of the main research topics of gender musicology. The aim of this paper is to show specific type of women social exclusion. Based on examples it indicates the roles women fulfill in music as well as the barriers that make, in spite of numerous success, women’s music worse because of their gender which negatively influences the quality but also limits women’s role to being only the lyrics subjects. In the end it is worth saying, that many people think about music in general context – it is not important who made the music because it’s the music, not gender that really matters.

Research background: The problem of digital deprivation is already known, but the COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted its negative consequences. A global change in the way of life, work and socialisation resulting from the epidemic has indicated that a basic level of digital integration is becoming necessary. During the lockdown, people were forced to use ICTs to adapt to a rapidly changing reality. Current experience with coronavirus pandemic shows that the transition to these extraordinary circumstances is not smooth. The inability to rapid conversion to the online world (due to a lack of skills or technical capabilities) significantly reduces professional mobility, hinders access to public services, and in the case of children, exposes them to the risk of remaining outside the remote education system. Purpose of the article: This research paper is addressing new issues of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on deepening and increasing the severity of e-exclusion. The goal of the paper is to indicate territorial areas in Poland which are particularly vulnerable to digital deprivation due to infrastructural deficiencies. Methods: Raster data regarding landform, combined with vector data regarding population density and type of buildings as well as the location of BTS stations are used in so-called modelling overland paths (GIS method) to indicate areas vulnerable to the infrastructural digital divide. Findings & Value added: The research showed that 4% of Poles remain out-side the Internet coverage, and additional ten percent of them are out of the reach of the Internet, allowing efficient remote work or learning. The research indicated that digital 'accessibility gap' is underestimated. E-exclusion has become a pressing issue and requires urgent system solutions, in case of future lockdowns.

Aim: To put the human condition and the condition of the humanities in the perspective of critical human life situations and critical situations in the history of humanity. Methods: An analysis of primary sources and media statements by politicians and clerics. Results: The mutilation of human dignity is a constant element in the history of humanity. Man is a perpetrator, but also a victim of this mutilation. The constancy of mutilation of human dignity has its systemic sanction. Thus, it becomes a problem that transcends subjective conditions, for man is (becomes) a product of the system. Conclusions: The humanities, however, are incapable of putting what is singular, hat has happened, into a universal perspective beyond the area of declarative narrative. It is necessary, therefore, to reinterpret the basic concepts of the humanities seen in the perspective of critical human situations and the history of humanity.

The main concept of Anna Augustyniak’s poetic volume (Bez ciebie, Warsaw 2014) is based on poetics and semantics of a number of categories: deficiency, body, affection, journey. They make an entanglement, which shows the metamorphosis of feminine lyrical subject, at first being mentally, emotionally and sensually disconnected (excluded by itself) from the environment though love, later again connected with world through the journey in geographically-cultural and spiritual dimension. In this case, the strong affection (falling in it and out of it after the parting) can be treated analogously. Construction and titles of several poems included in volume create an enumerative series describing the condition of subject (condition “without”), both as addiction and as deliverance, inclusion and exclusion. “Traveling erotics” – as Alicja Jakubowska-Oż.g named these poems – are also an individual realisation of a convention of literary genetics. A poem appears as a body of inclusion, which encloses a story of love.

Opis:

The article presents the results of the research on marginalization of the homeless in the Lublin Province. 500 individual questionnaire interviews were conducted with the homeless in four cities in the region. Specially de-veloped for this type of research indicators were used. The research findings show that more than half of the homeless experience very high levels of social exclusion (maximum, on the scale). The article also attempts to link the exclusion level with social and demographic characteristics of the homeless (gender, age, education) and variables, such as causes and length of homelessness, family-of-origin and willingness to get out of homeless-ness. The research conducted contributes to the discussion on the social dimension of sustainable development and its barriers, such as marginalization.
W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badań dotyczących marginalizacji osób bezdomnych na terenie województwa lubelskiego. Przeprowadzono 500 indywidualnych wywiadów kwestionariuszowych z bezdomnymi w czterech miastach regionu. Wykorzystując opracowane specjalnie dla tego typu badań wskaźniki stwierdzono, że ponad połowa bezdomnych charakteryzuje się bardzo dużym (maksymalnym na skali) poziomem wykluczenia spo-łecznego. W artykule podjęto również próbę powiązania wielkości marginalizacji bezdomnych z ich cechami społeczno-demograficznymi (płeć, wiek, wykształcenie) oraz takimi zmiennymi, jak typ przyczyny bezdomno-ści, długość stażu bezdomności, typ rodziny pochodzenia i chęć wyjścia ze stanu bezdomności. Przeprowadzone badania stanowią przyczynek do dyskusji odnoszącej się do społecznego wymiaru rozwoju zrównoważonego oraz jego barier takich jak marginalizacja.

Opis:

Exclusion phenomenon denotes processes in which some group of people or individuals is permanently blocked from resources (mostly considered as social exclusion). The discussed phenomenon can be considered in many aspects: identifying exclusion as a process, multidimensional research in this area and presenting solutions useful in solving problems. Real support of the processes in overtaking exclusion phenomenon can be offered from Information and Communication Technologies area. The aim of this paper is the presentation of smart city portals content in order to support services devoted to exclusion processes neutralization. Several existing portals of selected smart cities are taken into account. The contents of the research sample will be analysed to investigate the state of the art solutions in the area and confronted with the concept of knowledge portal. The paper consists of five parts, including Introduction and Conclusions. The three merit parts describe exclusion phenomena, then general concept of knowledge portal devoted to services is presented and the last part demonstrates existing solutions in this area.

Wykluczenie finansowe stanowi coraz ważniejszy problem we współczesnych finansach. Z jednej strony w literaturze naukowej pisze się coraz więcej o innowacyjnych usługach finansowych (wpływ informacyjnych i komunikacyjnych technologii na finanse), jednak z drugiej zapomina się o narastającej liczbie osób, które tracą dostęp do usług podstawowych. Prezentowany artykuł przedstawia problemy związane z wykluczeniem finansowym i próby jego przezwyciężania w skalach europejskiej oraz globalnej.
Financial exclusion becomes a peculiar problem in contemporary finance. From one point of view, in scientific literature there are growing number of publications concerned to innovative financial services (the influence of information-communication technologies on finance). From other side, there are not much publications uprising problems of people losing access to financial services. The presented article is an effort to discuss the problems of financial exclusion and attempts to overcome this phenomenon in European and global scale.

The objective of this paper is presentation and analysis of negative opinions of microfinance expressed by a wide group of specialists dealing with the microfinance form of supporting the efforts to fight poverty and financial exclusion. This problem has become the subject matter of discussions in scientific studies as well as mass media and covers a wide range of issues, referring not only to the ideological message of this particular form of financial intermediation, but also its practical aspects. The arguments presented in the paper and the underlying analyses are a result of literature studies as well as the author’s own reflections and remarks related to the discussed issues.
Celem artykułu jest próba prezentacji i analizy negatywnych opinii wyrażanych na temat mikrofinansów, formułowanych przez szerokie grono osób zajmujących się mikrofinansową formą wsparcia walki z biedą i wykluczeniem finansowym. Tematyka ta staje się przedmiotem dyskusji prowadzonej zarówno w opracowaniach naukowych, jak i środkach masowego przekazu i obejmuje szeroki spektrum problemów dotykających zarówno ideowe przesłanie tej formy pośrednictwa finansowego, jak i jej praktykę. Zaprezentowane w artykule argumenty i odnoszone do nich analizy są pochodną przeprowadzonych przez autora studiów literaturowych oraz wynikają z jego własnych przemyśleń i uwag wobec poruszanej tematyki.

The article describes the ethnic exclusion of Aboriginal minority in Australia. Using the method of cultural comparative studies the author examines representation of Aborigines in the literary journalism by Polish writer Mariusz Marczewski who travelled to Australia and observed urban Aboriginal diaspora. This representation is juxtaposed with the anthropological monograph of Aboriginal customs by Wojciech Bęben and with historiographical books about Australia. This context helps to point particular features of Marczewski’s picture of Aborigines which shows his postcolonial sensitivity, poetic language and melancholic sadness on account of the death of Aborigines’ culture.

Aim. The aim of the paper is to reflect on role of urban wastelands in context of legal and social construction of urban public spaces. This reflexion is based on analysis of what ecological values are connected with urban wastelands and how those values manifested during pandemic. Methods. Paper is based on observatory research put in the context of theoretical reflection on urban research, especially applying to ecology and urban management. Results.  Spontaneous social animation of urban wastelands related to restrictions placed upon using green areas by Polish government in order to stop the spread of COVID-19 in April 2020 revealed potential of such places to trace regulations introduced in public spaces resulting in transfer of some social practices to less ordered and supervised areas. Conclusions. Nowadays urban wastelands gained appreciation as areas of specific high biodiversity and ecological value. However they can also be useful as a measure of social practices excluded from planned and highly organised urban places. They can be used to trace them and rethink legal and social circumstances that led to that exclusion.
