Mean Value Engine Model
Opis:
Increasing public awareness of environmental protection, it has caused a lot of emphasis on the marine industry to create reciprocating diesel environmentally friendly. Conducting research on real objects in the laboratory gives us the solution to the problem. However, such studies generate large financial resources, especially for marine engines also take a lot of time. Creating a simulation on a computer allows for the limited financial resources and also speeding up work on the piston marine engine. Computer simulations allow the creation of more complex physical models, which can describe the process of operating a marine diesel engine. However, the complication models cause a problem of the future understanding of the model and the possibility of subsequent use of it, for example for control of the engine. The more it established the need to simplify complex models of engines for better understand the processes occurring in the engine. The article is a description of the Mean Value Engine Model (MVEM), which were analysed individual blocks of the model together with the modifications related to the environment in which the engine will run. Modular model allows better modifying it and adding new blocks. This model is based mainly designed for application control. Because of the simple structure easy to adjust for different types of engines. This is particularly good for use in motor drivers. It allows better matching engine operating parameters to reduce emissions of harmful substances into the environment and also achieve better efficiency of marine engine.

Opis:
The article presents assumptions of the one-dimensional model of the ASz-62IR aircraft engine. This model was developed in the AVL BOOST software. The ASz-62IR is a nine cylinder, aircraft engine in a radial configuration. It is produced by the Polish company WSK “PZL-Kalisz” S. A. The model is used for calculating parameters of the fuel stream and the air stream in intake system of the engine, as well as for the analyses of the combustion process and the exhaust flow to the external environment. The model is based on the equations describing the isentropic flow. The geometry of the channels and all parts of the model has been mapped on the basis of empirical measurements of the engine elements. The model assumes indirect injection where the gasoline was used as a fuel with the calorific value of 43.5 MJ/kg. The model assumes a mixture of a stoichiometric ratio of 14.5. This model is only part of the overall the ASz-62IR engine model. After the simulation tests on the full model the obtained results confirmed the correctness of the model used to create the mixture. It was found that the AVL BOOST software is good for the implementation of this type of work.

The aim of this paper is to present the possibilities of using 3D spatial printing technology to create complex models, e.g. turbine helicopter engines, PZL-10W type, operated on the W-3 “Sokół” helicopter. We have presented the process of creating a spatial model using CAD software. It required a careful selection of the parts necessary for its manufacture as well as elimination of minor parts, which were insignificant from the functional and educational perspective of the model. We presented the type of printer which was used to prepare the model, and also its software. The verification of the correctness of designing the files for particular parts was made with Netfabb software. Proper verification affected the choice of files to be sent to the 3D printer software, where they underwent further slight changes concerning, among others, the thickness of the layers and the percentage of filling the interior of the individual parts of the engine. The printouts of the selected engine parts have been shown in the photographs. We also (briefly) described the processes of treatment of the parts, their labour intensity as well as the hardware used on a regular basis for this purpose. Finally, we discussed the assembly process of the entire engine. In conclusion, we stressed the importance of the model as a significant didactic aid which is to support the process of acquiring knowledge related to the construction, kinematics and operation of the turbine engine. We also specified the amount of used materials, labour consumption (in man-hours) with regard to the same printout of the parts as well as the finishing works.

Opis:
A method is presented for evaluating the performance of piston internal combustion engines used as the main engines on sea-going ships and acting in typical operating conditions. These conditions are described taking into account the performance area of engines of this type. The presented method provides opportunities for calculating the numerical effect of the action using the integral calculus. The above effect is presented as a physical quantity expressed by a number with the metric unit called the joule-second. Proposed is the use of types of integrands (which are functional dependences of the energy converted in these engines on time) which make it possible to use the second fundamental theorem of calculus justifying the use of the Newton-Leibniz formula. The object of the analysis is the process of changes of the energy converted in the internal combustion engines during their operation, described with the aid of a deterministic model of the real process taking into account its sample realisation.

Opis:
Fuel mixture formation inside a cylinder has become used more frequently in spark ignition engines in recent years. gas internal combustion engines can also benefit from this concept as direct injection into an engine 's cylinder during the compression stroke not only increases its volumetric efficiency but also eliminates adverse anomalies in the combustion process. This paper focuses on the development of a simulation model for a spark ignition engine with direct hydrogen injection into a cylinder. The Wave software was used for the simulation. A part of the paper depicts the model's verification. The study utilized a three-cylinder internal combustion engine with the total cylinder volume of 1.2 dm3. The concept of the engine is based on new, high-pressure injectors with 10 MPa inlet pressure (gas-hydrogen injection directly into the engine cylinder). Utilization of internal fuel mixture formation can be beneficial due to its enabling the control of the combustion process and gaseous emission generation. From the viewpoint of the engine's design, however, internal fuel mixture utilisation is more complicated as injectors have to be built into the cylinder head. The actual engine construction is housed in laboratories of the Technical University of Liberec, Department of Vehicles and Engines.

The article discusses the most important facts from the history of the development of miniature aircraft engines and carries out their comparative analysis. Already in the 1930s, the structural system characteristic of model engines was established, which has hardly changed to this day. The following sections compare the various types of engines: two-stroke and four-stroke engines, spark-ignition engines, glow plug engines, engines with a push-pull cylinder arrangement, radial and in-line engines. The comparisons of the parameters and operational indicators of such engines presented in the tables allowed for the assessment of the advantages and disadvantages of individual engines, making several observations and drawing some more general conclusions.

This paper presents the methodology and investigation of the sound power level produced by a radial piston aircraft engine operating at varied speeds. The research model aircraft engine of a maximum power of 5.5 kW with a two-bladed airscrew was placed on a test bend. Its sound power level was calculated from the sound pressure level measured at 9 measurement points distributed on a hemispherical surface in a confined space in line with PN-EN 3744. Mean sound power generated by the ASP FS400AR engine is 96 dB at idle (2,880 rpm) and 105 dB at a cruising speed (4,740 rpm). Accordingly, it can be concluded that a sound level meter registered a higher sound power level at the points in front of the model aircraft engine than at the points behind it, whereas the lowest sound power level was registered directly above the engine.

Opis:
A vibroacoustic signal of an internal combustion engine contains several diagnostic information, which are -for the most part - not utilised since they require complex processing methods in order to separate useful data and to eliminate disturbances. The way of analysis ofsuch complex signal depends on the diagnostic aim. It is a rich source of information not only concerning the combustion process, but also various mechanical defects occurring in the driving system (valves, clutch, gearbox). Wear of elements as well as small mechanical defects cause the adaptation of the control system to new parameters. Thus, in many cases these adaptive systems can be masking mechanical defects. Burning out of exhaust valves or an improper valve clearance are examples of such defects. The method of diagnostics of leakages in a system: exhaust valve - cylinder, on the basis of measuring the vibration signal of the engine head is proposed in the paper. The results of the analysis of the engine vibration signal under conditions of a defected exhaust valve and an increased valve clearance are presented. The active diagnostic experiment was performed on the engine of Fiat Punto 1.2. During road tests the vibrations acceleration signal was recorded as well as certain auxiliary signals used for a synchronisation and identification of engine timing. The natural acceleration of vibrations in the resonance frequency range of the piezoelectric sensor was utilized. The vibration signal was pre-processed i.e. filtered, synchronously averaged and windowed. Satisfying diagnostic results of the valve defect or the improper valve clearance were obtained on the basis of the analysis of the engine vibration acceleration signal envelope. The signal measures explicitly indicating the valve condition were determined. The method, after certain modifications, can be applied for the on-line valve diagnostics.

Opis:
Vibroacoustic signal of reciprocating engine carries diagnostic information that is not efficiently used because of complicated signal processing methods for separation of useful components and noise elimination. The measured vibrations are a mixture of periodic waves due to the rotating components and transient waves due to the reciprocating components of the engine and pressure forces. Engine vibrations may be described in several ways depend on the diagnostic purpose. For detecting non-uniform cylinder operation, for instance, the methods for rotating machines can be considered. Many transients occur in vibration signal of the combustion engine like exhaust and inlet valve operations, fuel injection, combustion, piston slap. To analyze them the time-frequency methods can be used. Diagnosing of some damages, like valve clearance changing or valve burning, can be done using the diagnostic model. This model should be rather simple and sensitive to mentioned damages. In modelling two approaches can be considered. The first one is based on the real physical parameters of the system. The second one is making the abstractive statistical model of signal with abstractive parameters. In the paper the autoregressive model is proposed. Identifying model is finding periodically time-varying coefficients of the equivalent filter. All the damages in the system make changes of the coefficients. The model presented in the paper is illustrated with the signal of spark ignition combustion engine.

The research focuses on the solutions to avoid overheating the intake and exhaust valves due to engine overload. Subaru EJ25 engines are currently mounted in passenger cars such as Subaru Impreza but the author's innovative idea is to use them in small passenger airplanes. The paper describes the coupled thermo - mechanical load model of a supercharged Subaru EJ25 engine. The engine piston was tested thermally and mechanically, and the intake and exhaust valves only thermally. The calculations were done using the finite element method (FEM) in ABAQUS 6.10. Parts where divided into Hex and Tet mesh elements, depending of their geometry. The models used in the simulation were previously created using CATIA v5. Because there were only separate parts, the authors used only Part Module. The process of 3D scanning based on the method of reverse engineering was for fine mapping the surface of the examined parts, e.g. a piston. The boundary conditions and material properties are based on the literature and the information provided by the companies that sell spare parts for this engine. The simulations were done for varied heating times and mechanical load (25, 50, 100, 250, 400 seconds).

Safe operation of a merchant vessel is dependent on the reliability of the vessel’s main propulsion engine. Reliability of the main propulsion engine is interdependent on the reliability of several subsystems including lubricating oil system, fuel oil system, cooling water system and scavenge air system. Turbochargers form part of the scavenge sub system and play a vital role in the operation of the main engine. Failure of turbochargers can lead to disastrous consequences and immobilisation of the main engine. Hence due consideration need to be given to the reliability assessment of the scavenge system while assessing the reliability of the main engine. This paper presents integration of Markov model (for constant failure components) and Weibull failure model (for wearing out components) to estimate the reliability of the main propulsion engine. This integrated model will provide more realistic and practical analysis. It will serve as a useful tool to estimate the reliability of the vessel’s main propulsion engine and make efficient and effective maintenance decisions. A case study of turbocharger failure and its impact on the main engine is also discussed.
