Opis:
There has been a big increase in production and investments in wind turbines and wind farms in last 20 years. New generation of wind turbines is more reliable than from 1980’s are, which necessary condition is energy production is to play an important role among renewable energy sources. Over the last 30 years, the size of wind turbines increased 7 times, as nominal power increased nearly 14 times. At present, turbines capable of producing over 10 MW of power are being developed. The main reason for continued growth of turbines sizes is to minimize the energy cost per kilowatt-hour. However, it is worth remembering that according to the „square-cube law”, there is a maximum size after the surpassing of witch the cost of ever-larger turbines would grow faster than financial gain from the increased size. In this article, authors present energy storage methods and devices for wind power plants and cost-effectiveness of the individual energy storage methods. Authors also present data about energy storage efficiency and groups of energy storage devices for wind power plants such as: compressed-air power stations + gas turbine (CAES), utilizing underground wells, pumped storage power plants, rechargeable batteries (lithium-ion, lead-acid, sodium sulphur, VRB, zinc-flow, zinc-air, zinc-air), flywheels, hydrogen production and storage systems, superconducting magnetic energy storage (SMES), electrostatic storage – electrolytic capacitors.

Opis:
The objective of the Energy Union is to integrate 28 national energy markets, guarantee free movement of energy through the borders of the member states, implement new technologies, increase energy efficiency and renew transmission infrastructure. This project is advocated in response to the energy crisis of 2009, between Russia and Ukraine, as a result of which the gas transit to some of the EU countries was discontinued. This project, however, does not enjoy equal interest among all EU member states. This is the outcome of the national interests of some member states, which, for many years, have had good political and economic relations with the Russian Federation, particularly in the area of energy raw materials. Therefore, Maroš Šefčovič – the European Commissioner in charge of the Energy Union, organised an Energy Union Tour, i.e. a series of meetings in all the member states, taking place at the turn of 2015–2016, the objective of which was to show what the Energy Union could offer each of them. The structure of the paper was determined by the research procedure and the response to all the research questions, comprising: introduction, reflections on the security of the energy raw material supply and the projects of Energy Union and Energy Union Tour as well as the conclusions from the research and the summary.

Opis:
The aim of this article is to assess the implementation process of the EU energy security policy in Central and Eastern European (CEE) countries. In the EU, energy security remains a crucial issue for European Energy Strategy, the fundamental goals of which include the security of supply, sustainability and competitiveness. Security of supply should be considered the most important aspect in this context, because it is connected to deep interdependencies between markets and economies, often based on political or even geo-political considerations. This is currently particularly noticeable, among other things, in the relations between the EU and Russia, where – in the event of any potential energy supply disturbances – some CEE countries are considered to be the most exposed. By analysing matters referred to the security of energy supplies, the article aims to determine the scope of activities undertaken by selected CEE countries which are also EU Member States in order to achieve this goal. The paper stresses the significance of cooperation by CEE countries at regional level, and focuses on initiatives and projects meant to ensure the security of their energy supplies. The conclusions of the paper assess some of the success stories as well as failures experienced by CEE countries in the process of building their energy independence.

Liechtenstein is the fourth smallest country in Europe, which determines the low economic importance of this country on the international arena. Therefore, Liechtenstein is usually overlooked in the analysis of economic policies in various countries, including the energy sector. However, the analysis of such a small country brings a valuable complement to researches on potential and challenges with regard to the implementation of energy transformation policy especially taking into account the countries with poor capabilities. It should be emphasised that due to difficult geographical conditions and strong external influences, deepened analysis of the process of formulating energy policy in Liechtenstein should arouse the interest of those countries that suffer geographical disadvantages to strengthen their energy security.

Opis:
Subject and purpose of work: The aim of the study is to identify methodological problems, which may be encountered during the preparation of the energy balance of a territorial unit, along with indications of ways to solve them. Materials and methods: Problems were identified during the preparation of the energy balance for two selected rural communes and then they were investigated with reference to the literature on this subject. Results: Estimating the energy demand of a local government unit requires proper identification of the groups of energy consumers, divided into facilities owned or co-owned by communes and ones independent from commune authorities. The latter group is divided further, into households, businesses, farms. For each of the users different methods of obtaining data may be needed: a survey and analysis of statistical data, analysis of financial documents, evaluation of the buildings’ age. Generally, however, preparing an energy balance statement requires many simultaneous approaches, and the combination of multi-criterion analysis provides the most reliable picture of the problem. Conclusions: The scope of the data needed to compile an energy balance statement for local government units, depends on the purpose of the developed analysis. Methodological handbooks and training materials on this subject are helpful, but the developed methodologies may need to be modified and adapted to specific conditions.
Materiały i metody: Problemy zidentyfikowano podczas sporządzania bilansu energetycznego dwu wybranych gmin wiejskich, a następnie skonfrontowano z literaturą przedmiotu. Najczęściej jednak sporządzenie bilansu energetycznego wymaga stosowania wielu podejść równocześnie, a połączenie wyników analizy wielokryterialnej daje najbardziej rzetelny obraz badanego problemu. Wnioski: Zakres danych, potrzebnych do sporządzenia bilansu energetycznego jednostki samorządu terytorialnego, zależy od celu opracowania analizy. Poradniki metodyczne i materiały szkoleniowe na ten temat są pomocne, jednak opracowane metodyki mogą wymagać modyfikacji i dostosowania do konkretnych warunków.

Opis:
Aim: In the context of climate change this paper explores the value of models for evaluating energy costs by considering energy accounting and externalities instead of capitalistic economics.   Research methods: We test the hypothesis that the conventional economic model of the energy market can lead to inappropriate choices, and that those choices may be environmentally damaging. We examine energy accounting (energy return on energy investment), embodied energy and the incorporation of external costs as more valuable economic models.   Findings: This paper reviews existing economic tools and examines modifications, which, when applied to energy provision or efficiency and conservation of energy applications, may give more accurate information about investment, return and environmental damage. Energy accounting of schemes should be a preliminary requirement for all proposed energy schemes. Externalities are less readily applied, but as the costs associated with renewable energy are becoming competitive in conventional economic terms, they are less valuable than energy accounting.   Value of the paper: The paper concludes that a preliminary assessment of a proposed energy scheme should be undertaken using energy accounting and external costs to determine the true energy value. These models could be used to select the best environmental option. Indeed “energy uneconomic” schemes, which cost more energy than they deliver, should be abandoned in order to avoid unnecessary environmental damage. After this process, legislation and fiscal measures such as taxes and incentives could be applied to satisfy social and political imperatives. Examples of energy accounting in insulation and consideration of external costs in a proposed strategy to replace fossil-fuelled electrical generation in Indonesia are included in the paper.   Limitations: We have not considered the serious question of finite fossil fuel resources and feel that this would be a profitable line of research.

There is currently no common or standardized procedure for certification of the energy performance of buildings, as each EU Member State takes into account the specificities of its own construction sector when implementing the provisions of Directive 2010/31/EU. This usually depends on two features: the purpose of the building and the climate. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to evaluate the influence of the hydropower primary energy factor for assessing the energy performance of buildings. For this purpose, non-renewable primary energy factor values were analyzed regarding actual energy production and consumption data from 19 Lithuanian hydroelectric plants. The results of the studies show that the average value of the non-renewable primary energy factor of hydropower plants is 0.059.

Research background: Stable and reliable access to a variety of energy carriers is undoubtedly a basis for the development of any economy. Therefore, the primary condition for the security of the state and its citizens is to ensure the essential minimum of energy on its territory. We can observe, however, an increasing dependence of the Polish energy sector on external sources. Purpose of the article: The aim of this paper is to examine and evaluate the economic aspects of the Polish energy security considering the fact of growing de-pendency on foreign supplies of energy carriers. Methods: In this paper we analyze the Polish energy security using several indicators: fuel/price efficiency ratio, energy intensity of the economy and Herfindahl-Hirschman rate of market concentration. For calculations we use statistical data provided by Energy Market Agency publications, including ?Energy Situation in Poland? covering the years of 2000? 2015. Findings & value added: On the one hand, the Polish energy security depends on its internal conditions and resources - in this context, the available resources of coal and lignite play an extremely positive role because they provide access to a reliable source of energy. On the other hand, Poland is becoming dependent on external commitments that restrict the free use of domestic resources, thus lowering the energy security of the country, speaking in particular of oil and natural gas resources. The analysis carried out in this paper will allow to evaluate the effectiveness of using various energy carriers with respect to their price, market structure and geopolitical conditions.

Energy is an abstract notion that helps to understand the nature and contributes to the creation of the civilization. The energy notion has a huge meaning not only due to practical reason – it is essential for economy and philosophy too. It turns out that in Hellenic philosophy, and especially in its fundamental part, i.e., metaphysics, there is no place for the concepts and methods of reasoning developed by physics and chemistry. Philosophy assumes that most of the physical and chemical concepts are not known in nature in spe these are employed by science only as a kind of mental keys (qualitative occultea) for the description and understanding of the universe. The concept of energy is only one example of a notion accepted both by the philosophers (in its metaphysical sense) and physicians (in its descriptive role).

Opis:
Aim: In the 21st century, energy security is one of the most important elements of contemporary politics and economy. The German turn in energy policy is the first attempt on a global scale to move away from nuclear energy to the use of renewable energy (RES -Renewable Energy Sources), albeit with a temporary increase in the use of conventional energy sources (in particular coal). The authors undertook to analyze the course of the German policy turn as well as new opportunities and threats to the stability of its energy system, notably electricity sector.   Design / Research methods: In order to analyze the course of the German turn in energy policy as comprehensively as possible, the authors recurred to various studies, often presenting divergent points of view on changes in the German energy industry in recent years. The research process was based on the analysis of the content of the materials subject to consideration.   Conclusions / findings: The analysis carried out shows that the efforts to increase the share of renewable energy will be continued in the near future, while limiting the role of traditional energy sources, with the exception of lignite. The policy will also directly lead to a continued importance of natural gas for the global economy. The changes taking place in the German energy balance to a certain extent limit the country’s energy security. This is due to the fact that supplies from wind and solar power plants that are to become dominant in the German energy system are of high volatility and thus constitute a significant threat. Progress in generating energy from renewable sources is not accompanied by similar progress in its storage, and without such storage capacity renewable energy sources will never be stable.   Originality / value of the article: The doctrinal assumptions of Energiewende (German energy transition) are fully consistent with the assumptions of the European climate and energy policy, which is also very important from the point of view of Poland. However, attention should be paid to the fact that too rigorous approach to its implementation may - still for a long time - threaten the economy and energy security of Germany and of other European Union states.   Implications: The conducted analysis unambiguously indicates the direction of the energy policy turn in Germany and in other EU states, as well as a change in the way the energy security system operates. The example of Germany, a highly industrialized country seeking to actively participate in the fulfillment of the commitments regarding the international mechanisms designed to combat the climate change, in particular by the transition of its energy sector towards a near zero emission economy, may provide model solutions which could potentially be adopted in other countries.

Energy security is an important issue for Ukraine's sustainable development. The main goal of the article is to show the state of energy security of Ukraine, analyze its tendencies and challenges, reveal the impact of energy security on sustainable development of a country. The state of the energy security of Ukraine was analyzed with the help of data collection, processing and analysis. Data was taken from State Statistics Service of Ukraine, Ministry of Energetics and Coal Industry of Ukraine, other sources, and analyzed with the help of tools of statistics and economic analysis. Ukraine, being a developing country and experiencing war, political and economic crisis, struggles for energy security support. The present state of energy availability and consumption in the country influences its sustainable development and political stability, and is a significant restraint in country's survival. Despite the fact that Ukraine has enough resources' deposits to provide itself with energy, it provides less than 50% of own demands and is dependent on Russia's resources. Production of energy in Ukraine is decreasing, but energy consumption remains high. Ukrainian industries are energy-wasteful and energy-inefficient; the country has the leading positions in energy intensity of GDP. The article shows the relation of energy sources and energy security of Ukraine to sustainable development, reveals the dependency of the Ukrainian energy security, and indicates its main threats and ways out.

A transition from generating electricity from conventional sources to generating it from renewables is one of drivers leading us towards a circular economy. Electricity is a specific product and regardless of where and how it is produced, it takes the same form. A novel aspect of the research is the examination of correlations and relationships between guarantees of origin. The research objective is to analyse the market for the guarantees of origin in the volatile price environment that we had late 2021 and early 2022. Therefore, we analysed demand for the guarantees in January 1, 2020 to June 30, 2022 and the correlation between the price of electricity and guarantees of origin. It was based on the secondary data analysis method and the use of Pearson’s correlation coefficient and a linear regression function. The authors of the study made a hypothesis that the trading volume would increase during the study period and that there would be a positive correlation between the price of energy and the guarantees of origin. A key finding of the study revealed a steady increase in the purchase of guarantees despite the rise in prices. The buying of the guarantees is not a top-down requirement, but rather a bottom-up action, which indicates growing social expectations towards enterprises to consume energy from renewable sources.

Energy security plays a key role in energy and economic policy. The importance of energy security has been highlighted by the energy and geopolitical crisis. The aim of this article is to present the crucial threats and challenges facing Polish National Power System, as well as to provide solutions to ensure Poland's energy security over the next 10 years. Article verify the hypothesis that security of electricity supply in Poland may be endangered in the coming years due to, among others, investment gap, coal power plants phase-out and undiversified energy mix. Therefore, it is a necessity to accelerate the investment processes in new generation capacity, especially in nuclear energy. Energy transition plans and energy policy need to be revised in light of the current energy and geopolitical crisis. Rapid growth of photovoltaics improves the energy security, mainly in the summer period, nevertheless, there is still insufficient development of investment in renewable energy sources, particularly in wind energy. In the Polish National Power System there are a lot of constraints such as investment gap, low capacity of transmission and distribution grids and high exposure to climate risk, thus it is necessary to take comprehensive investments to improve energy security in both the short and long term.

Rapid development of distributed energy resources technologies, along with network constraints, plus few consumer-oriented business models, has led to a search for radically different power system configurations. This is the basis for exploring an energy market model which meets the requirements of the changing environment. This model could be referred to as a transactive energy model whose main focus is on trading energy by a peer-to-peer principle, where the power company is replaced with a fully trusted trading platform based on distributed ledger technologies, i.e. blockchain technology. The aim of this paper is to analyze energy sector solutions related to the use of blockchain technology. The emergence of these solutions indicates, on the one hand, the need for verification of the existing energy market model and, on the other hand, the need to modify the approach towards the changing environment. Blockchain technology not only means the use of cryptographic mechanisms to build trustworthy agreements without intermediary institutions between the unfamiliar users of transactions: it is also a new philosophy of life based on trust.

The European Union undertakes numerous activities to implement a common energy policy for all Member States. However, since the countries in question have different energy resources, geographical location and terrain, unifi cation of national policies at EU level is a particularly arduous and difficult process. This article focuses on the analysis of energy sectors in Austria, Germany, Poland and Sweden. These countries were chosen because they offer considerable diversity, having different energy resources, geographical location, climatic conditions, as well as a different genesis of shaping their energy policy over the years. The analysis showed that the energy sectors in Poland, Germany, Austria and Sweden operate completely differently and rely on different energy resources. In Sweden, electricity mainly comes from hydropower and nuclear energy, while energy from coal is not produced at all. In Austria, coal is also not extracted, and the production of electricity is based mainly on renewable sources, and above all on hydropower. Germany is one of the countries with the highest level of coal mining in the world, therefore electricity is obtained mainly from this source, but also from nuclear energy and increasingly from renewable sources, mainly wind, biofuel and solar energy. Poland is among the world’s leading producers of coal, and obtaining electricity from this source accounts for as much as 80% in Poland; the rest comes from renewable sources, mainly wind energy, then biofuels, hydro energy and natural gas.

The Colombian government introduced a capacity market in order to promote the diversification in the energy matrix and protect users from high prices derived from dry seasonal events. Unfortunately, the flaws in the scarcity price definition- a mechanism that activates the capacity market obligation and sets a cap price for the spot market- have led into a market failure. Specifically, some generation plants have been forced to be unavailable because their variable costs are significantly higher than the scarcity price. This paper presents a qualitative and quantitative analysis of the Colombian Electricity system, with a particular emphasis on the definition of the scarcity price. Results present lessons and recommendations for policy makers based on the experience of the Colombian Electricity Market, highlighting the need of a new definition of the scarcity price and a different focus on the energy planning scheme.

Many countries worldwide support green energy production on large scale mostly by solar or wind energy subsidizing manufacture and operation of such systems. During the last two decades, there has been significant increase in wind energy production globally. Statistics show continuously growing investments in the development and installation of wind turbines and farms. Currently, wind energy is the second most important source of renewable energy after water energy. By 2016 global cumulative installed wind capacity surpassed 432 k MW [GWEC]. In last several years, most dynamic growth in wind power generation investments was recorded in Asia. Europe, in comparison, has less impressive but steady growth in wind power plants through the years. In this article, authors present global demand on energy in comparison to efficiency of wind power plants in relation to the local and global location as well as to the scale of installed system. Authors also present statistical data concerning wind power plants development. General classification, using number of criteria (ex. power output, construction size, rotor axis orientation and other) of wind to electric power converting devices is presented. Various types of devices, which authors describe in this article, can perform conversion of wind blow energy to the electric energy using different yet similar methods.

When systems of simple geometry like pipes or regular channels are considered, the mechanical energy loss of the fluid flow can be expressed by local and longitudinal empirical energy loss coefficients. However, in the case of large spatially distributed objects, there are no simple approaches to this task. In practice, general recommendations addressing different types of objects are used, but they usually provide very coarse estimates of energy loss. In this work, a new methodology for determination of mechanical energy loss in steady flowis proposed. This methodology is based on the observation that the magnitude of the power of energy dissipation in turbulent flow can be determined using the averaged flow velocity and turbulent viscosity coefficient. To highlight this possibility, an analysis of the magnitudes of the power of the main and fluctuating components of turbulent flow is presented. The correctness of the method is verified using an example of laminar and turbulent flows in a circular pipe. The results obtained show clearly that the proposed methodology can be used for mechanical energy loss determination in flow objects. This methodology can be used as a basis for mechanical energy loss determination in different types of flow objects.

Improving the energy efficiency of large grinding mills is of great importance to reduce the energy cost of mineral processing. The ratio of SAG mill to ball mill’s energy consumption varies greatly among SABC operations. Thus far, very few research studies have been conducted to demonstrate how the SAG mill or ball mill responses to the change of circuit energy distribution in terms of comminution efficiency. The present study investigated the energy performance of an operating SABC circuit at variable circuit energy distributions. An energy benchmarking model was used to assess the comminution energy efficiency of SAG mill, ball mill, and overall circuit. It is found that the target SABC circuit achieves the highest overall energy efficiency when 37.6% of the total circuit energy is distributed to the SAG mill and 62.4% to the ball mill. The maximum energy efficiency of this SABC circuit is approximately 25% when compared to the minimum practical energy required to carry out an equivalent comminution duty. The study also showed that the ball mill is more sensitive to the variation in circuit energy distribution than the SAG mill.

The paper presents technological solutions that make possible to develop supervision systems to control operation of low-power energy generation sources. Operation of currently used control systems depends on technical conditions, needs of the source operator, and the binding energy law. The mentioned conditions do not cover the whole technological potential offered by modern devices that compose the SCADA system. That is why the paper presents new standards of data exchange and equipment that can be applied to develop a supervision system that supplies the required information to both the operator of generation sources and the power system operator with Such a solution makes possible to optimize the source and system operation with the application of various decision criteria.

One of the most important sector of the national economy is the energy sector. A number of changes in the sector depends on a number of factors, not only technical and economic, but also social and political. At present Polish energy sector faces serious challenges. High demand on final energy , inadequate level of manufacturing and industrial infrastructure, dependence on the external supply of natural gas and oil, climate protection commitments, give rise to the need to take decisive actions. To achieve the objectives of the proper functioning of the energy system an essential element of the process is continuous observation and prediction of changes in the system in different timeframes. The complexity of the problems of the fuel economy and energy causes computer models to be an essential tool for their analysis. No decision about the introduction of regulations in the field of energy and ecology can do without previous studies of the effects which can be therefore estimated by using models.

The study deals with economic and logistical conditions for the obtaining and use of various energy sources in the world. The first part presents the importance of energy in periods of human activity on Earth, from the time of gathering and hunting to modern times. It was pointed out how energy sources evolved based on successive innovations and inventions during subsequent periods of human development. The article presents the importance of individual energy sources in the modern world, indicating their logistical susceptibility in the field of extraction, storage and distribution. The length of periods of availability of non-renewable energy resources having the attribute of depletion was indicated using the Raw Materials Availability Index (RMAI). An analysis was made of the locations of individual energy resource deposits, stating that only a few countries have over 80% of global reserves, which means that other countries and societies depend on raw material monopolists.

This article presents problems associated with the development of competition on the Polish energy market in the context of tariffs and pricing. National standards are set against the background of European legislation and the activities of the Energy Regulatory Office. The thesis is that the tariffs concerning distribution should be approved by the President of this authority because it is a natural monopoly, something the authors demonstrate in the following part of the article. However, the tariffs concerning selling should be free from confirmation even for households because this is a typical market. The authors do not ignore legal analysis and practical issues.

The Energy Hub concept can be defined as a central point where multiple energy carriers meet and the corresponding energy flows can be processed, conditioned, stored and ultimately distributed according to demand requirements in an optimal manner. The energy node modeling concept describes the relationship between input and output energy flows and can be used to optimize energy consumption during planning and operation. The hub can store surplus energy generated by photovoltaics for a long time and cover electricity and heat needs, even during periods of high demand or low renewable production. The research goal of the article is primarily to present the concept of innovation in the field of energy and to identify key energy hubs for the development of the modern economy, as also indicated by one of the authors of the innovation concept, Christensen, who treats distributed energy as the so-called a breakthrough innovation, i.e. one that will gradually replace the classic energy system from the market.

Combustion engines drive motor vehicles, which are commonly used, and their efficiency does not exceed forty per cent. It is hard to accept such a waste of energy nowadays when there is less and less fossil fuel and the ecological norms are being tightened. That is why hybrid power transmission systems and systems for energy recuperation - especially kinetic, so far being lost – are becoming more popular. One of such solutions is a unit to recover energy from a driver's seat vibration in a motor vehicle. It allows changing the kinetic energy of the vibrating seat into the electric one. Such a unit is installed under the driver's seat and supports the gaseous shock absorber. The unit consists of two toothed bars, coupled by two pairs of gear wheels, which drive the alternating current generator rotor. The rotor is joined with a driving shaft by one-way centrifugal clutches. One bar drives the rotor while the seat moves down and the other - while the seat moves up. The rotor is equipped with permanent magnets, which, by rotation, induce the power in the stator's winding. The generated power goes through the voltage stabilizing and rectification systems (4.75-5.25 V) and charges four batteries connected to USB output. The obtained electric energy may be used to supply other electronic devices, e.g. mobile phones. The unit will be installed in a farm tractor. The research checking the unit's effectiveness will be carried out in the near future.

One of the basic obligations of the State towards its citizens is ensure energy security, defined as a situation where the economy can cover both the current and predicted consumer demand for fuels and energy in a technologically and economically reasonable manner, while observing requirements of environmental protection. Undoubtedly, in the context of electrical power energy security is understood as the security of supply, i.e. the capability of the power system to ensure the security of operation of the power grid and to balance the supply of electricity with the demand for this type of energy. This primarily depends on the availability of power generation sources of sufficient capacity. To ensure the continuity and stability of electricity supply to all end consumers in Poland in the medium- and long-term perspective, the Polish Ministry of Energy commenced drafting regulations concerning the capacity market as of 2016. These efforts have been aimed at causing an incentive effect in order to encourage making investment and modernisation decisions and to discourage decommissioning of the existing generation sources which determine the security of operation of the National Power System.

According to the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD), all new buildings must be constructed using technologies that will ensure almost zero energy consumption by the building through renewable energy sources and an energy-efficient thermal envelope. To assess the possibilities of reconstructing an existing building following the requirements of the EPBD in Ukraine, we have presented possible ways to modernise an office in Kyiv using renewable energy sources (biomass, heat pump) at different levels of thermal protection. Based on dynamic modelling results in the DesignBuilder software environment, the technical, environmental and economic aspects of building modernisation using near-Zero Energy Buildings (nZEB) technologies have been investigated. In particular, the authors have analysed the possibilities of using different modes of heat pump operation to provide heat to a building of different levels of thermal protection in the GeoTSOL software environment. The results obtained can be used to assess the benefits of improving the energy efficiency of a building using different types of renewable energy sources.

The article presents results of experimental tests of energy parameters of hard coals under loading, collected from research sites located within five main geologic structures of Upper Silesian Coal Basin (GZW) – Main Trough, Main Anticline, Bytom Trough, Rybnik Trough and Chwałowice Trough. Coals from12 mines were analysed, starting with seams of group 200, through groups 400, 500, 600 and, finally, seams of group 700. Coal of each of the groups of seams underwent uniaxial compression stress of the energy parameters, in a servo-controlled testing machine MTS-810NEW, for the full range of strain of the tested coal samples. Based on the tests the dependence of different types of specific energy of longitudinal strain of coals on the value of uniaxial compression strength was determined. The dependence of the value of dissipated energy and kinetic energy of coals on the uniaxial compression strength was described with a linear function, both for coals which due to their age belong to various bed sand for various lithotypes of coal. An increase in the value of dissipated energy and in kinetic energy was observed, which was correlated with an increase in uniaxial compression strength of coal. The share of dissipated energy is dominant in the total energy of strain. Share of recoverable energy in the total energy of strain is small, independent of the compression strength of coals and is at most a few per cent high. In coals of low strength and dominant share of dissipated energy, share of recoverable energy is the biggest among the tested coals. It was shown that following an increase in compression strength the share of recoverable energy decreases, while the share of dissipated energy in the total energy increases. Further studies of specific energy of longitudinal strain of rocks in the full-range strain will be the next step inperfecting methodology of research into natural rock burst susceptibility of Carboniferous rock mass and changes in the susceptibility resulting from mining activity.

Although the gravitational energy within the distance of the radius of a singularity for a current estimated mass of the universe is equal to ~1069 Joules, congruent solutions for different ages of the universe reflect changes by a factor of π or 8π for identities. The total energy value is equal to the product of primary constants G·μ·ε·ħ·σ·c2 (which results in power, W) when divided by the area of smallest unit of space (area of a circle with a radius of Planck’s Length) and then multiplied by the universe’s current surface area and age. The conspicuous discrepancies of ~2∙103 between the predicted average magnetic intensity within the universe from that total energy and contemporary measurements can be accommodated by the quantitative product of 21.3π4 derived from the classic four-dimensional metric. The equivalent electric field potential divided by the predicted magnetic intensity results in a velocity that has been suggested to reflect the latency for excess correlations to occur across the universe. The most parsimonious explanation for these results is that a large component of the magnetic manifestation of energy in the universe is recondite or occluded within its submatter spatial structure and that the required cohesion or “diffusivity” throughout the volume involves the electric field component. These quantifications may facilitate understanding of Mach’s principle that any part of the universe is influenced by all of its parts.

European climate and energy policy will have a great impact on the European and Polish energy markets. Moreover, it will have an influence on broad realms of social and economic activity. This raises the necessity of taking concrete strategic measures, especially on the governmental level. EU climate and energy policy also entails sizeable investment requirements and places important demands on the modernization programme for the energy sector. This spells the need to develop broad dialogue between the government and society. The above gives the background behind the appointment of the biggest Polish think tank in 2009 – namely, the Public Board of the National Programme for the Reduction of Emissions. In the Polish context the authors herein analyze the European climate and energy package, European Union policy regarding the reduction of emissions, and the Polish efforts taken in this field. The authors also describe the role of the Public Board of the National Programme for the Reduction of Emissions and its tasks. In conclusion they present policy recommendations and results in the area of fulfilling European obligations and conducting an infrastructural modernization programme in Poland.

In the globalized world, the issue of establishing new forms of cooperation in Ukraine’s energy sector with the countries of Central Europe is becoming urgent. With this in mind, the prospects of the project of "vertical" economic integration from north to south, from Scandinavia and the Baltic to the Balkan countries with access to the Adriatic Sea have been considered. The project of the Baltic-Black Sea alliance that is made up on the basis of security motives and includes the development of energy cooperation has been analyzed. It has been proven that with its powerful energy potential, Ukraine is able to integrate into the energy space using its own resource base and diversify the supply of fuel and energy resources within the energy space on a competitive basis. The scientific concept of the polarized space for the region’s development with a resource potential for the development of Ukraine’s economy in the context of globalization and European integration has been proposed.

Opis:
In the context of the growing demand for biomass, which is being encouraged by the EU directives on the promotion of the use of renewable energy, recent investigations have been increasingly focused on fast-growing energy crops. The aim of this study was to investigate the energy properties of three types of agricultural energy crops: Arundo donax L., Miscanthus × giganteus and Sida hermaphrodita. This investigation looked into the content of non-combustible and combustible matter, higher and lower heating values, lignocellulose content, and biomass macro-elements. The results indicate that the energy values of these crops are comparable, while their lignocellulose content shows significant variations. Thus, Arundo donax L. can best be utilised as solid biofuel due to its highest lignin content, while Miscanthus × giganteus and Sida hermaphrodita L. can be used for both liquid and solid biofuels production. As far as Arundo donax L. is concerned, a higher ash level should be taken into consideration.

The Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) became mandatory for new ships as well as the Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plan (SEEMP) for all ships due to the MEPC 62 (July 2011) along with the adoption of amendments to MARPOL Annex VI by the Parties to the MARPOL Annex VI. This was the first legally binding climate change treaty to be adopted since the Kyoto Protocol. The Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plan (SEEMP), which has been obligatory since 2013, did not to cover fishing cutters but triggered the implementation of energy efficiency audits due to fishing limits, high fuel prices, and free freight market. A research team of the Maritime University of Szczecin conducted energy efficiency audits on several fishing vessels operated on the Baltic Sea and provided the results to the shipowners. On their grounds, the shipowners started seeking methods to reduce energy consumption. They began modernizing the vessels using the information collected in the reports on energy audits. Usually, the modernization process is performed in severa stages. Apart from energy recovery installations, fishing vessels were furnished with the latest technologies aimed at the reduction of energy consumption and at making ships greener. The paper presents results of the said process at the selected fishing cutters operating on the Baltic Sea. The paper includes also the recommendations on the directions of the following stages of the audits.

Opis:
In the article the potential and utilization of conventional and renewable energy are shown. The problem of economic profitability of management is discussed and its influence on natural environment.

In the era of rising prices and growing demand for electricity, intelligent management of it has become a key issue for enterprises. The energy transformation taking place in Poland cannot be carried out without the participation of energy storages. Energy management brings financial benefits, but also reduces the carbon footprint of companies. The Automatic System Engineering Technology Group will follow this path. The Technology Group implements renewable energy sources and storages into its energy profile. The expected effects of the operation of the warehouse are the reduction of CO2 emissions to the atmosphere, optimization of electricity purchase costs and creation of a development base for renewable energy sources. The warehouse on the ASE Technology Group campus is connected to a photovoltaic installation. In addition, a wind turbine is planned to be added in the future. The energy storage confirms predicted effects. What is more, in the future it may become an element of the critical infrastructure of Polish enterprises.

Clusters of energy are a new mechanism, meant to support development of modern power grids in Poland. In this article, we experimentally check the influence of a hypothetical presence of clusters on energy markets. We present a two level real time power market, where the power first is balanced within a cluster and then an inter-cluster trading is performed, in which the country power grid is a participant in the market. We show that it can be beneficial for all parties to maintain such a schema and that it is also a possible direction for further research.

Research background: In recent years, much attention in the literature has been paid to the economic and environmental conditions of energy development as a key sector for the development of national economies. The issue of availability of individual energy resources and related energy security is receding into the background, most often due to the strong globalization of economies and the associated assumption of free international flow of goods and services, and thus practically unlimited possibilities of buying on the international commodity markets and energy exchanges. Nevertheless, the importance of energy security increases significantly in crisis situations. Purpose of the article: Bearing in mind the circumstances indicated above, the main objective of this article is to assess the energy security of European countries carried out in the context of resource and economic conditions. Methods: The article proposes its own methodological approach to the assessment of energy security based on the analysis of the energy mixes of 32 European countries and the availability of their own internal energy sources. In the process of classifying the studied economies into homogeneous groups in terms of resource and economic determinants (GDP per capita), principal component analysis was used. Findings & value added: The theoretical and methodological added value of the article results from the development of the author's approach to the assessment of energy security using individual and aggregated energy sufficiency index. Empirical added value is related to the results of energy security assessment in European countries, which can be used in shaping energy policies. Therefore, most of the 32 European countries assessed have a low level of energy security, which is due to the dominant use of non-renewable energy resources in their energy mixes. Countries with a high level of energy security have their own non-renewable resources or use alternative energy carriers in the form of renewable sources, hydropower or nuclear energy.

Renewable energy will play a key role in the transition towards a competitive, secure and sustainable energy system. In 2014 the European Commission proposed an objective to increase the share of renewable energy to at least 27% of the EU's energy consumption by 2030. The European Council endorsed this target which is binding at EU level. The Renewable Energy Directive (Directive 2009/28/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 23 April 2009 on the promotion of the use of energy from renewable sources and amending and subsequently repealing Directives 2001/77/EC and 2003/30/EC) was implemented in Poland on 20 February 2015 by the new renewable energy sources act. The objective of this article is to analyse the current state of the Polish energy sector related to the prosumer energy industry. It also describes the future potential for the development of prosumer energy in Poland. The analysis was conducted in the light of the new EU climate and energy initiatives. At the beginning, the article presents the current general state in the EU’s energy sector. European Union Climate and Energy Package targets up to 2050 and the state of renewable energy use gives the background to conduct an analysis of prospects for the development of prosumer energy in Poland. That is why the last part is devoted to the prosumer energy sector in Poland in the context of European Union regulations. The critical analysis of the current situation in that sector has made it possible to evaluate prospects for the development of prosumer energy in Poland in the context of the recently introduced legal regulations.

In Szczecin a mixed-use complex Posejdon is being constructed. It will be the first nearly zero-energy building (NZEB) in Poland that meets the strict ecological standards that all buildings will have to meet after January 2021. The project was presented at the COP24 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Katowice. The calculated building CO2 emission is very low. Based on the example of the Posejdon complex’s office-service section before and after renovation modern technical solutions for meeting the buildings energy demand and the resulting reduction of CO2 emission have been presented. The emissions were obtained after the calculation of energy use in accordance with Polish and European regulations concerning the energy performance of buildings using climatic conditions taken from a Polish meteorological database. The described renewable energy technologies implemented in the Posejdon building, serve as a reference to export management and design strategies to other NZEB with similar characteristics in the same region.

This paper presents examples of technologies for distributed energy generation developed under the projects coordinated by the IFFM PAS in Gdańsk. These are CHP units (generating heat and electricity) for houses with a power from several to tens of kW and for municipalities in the form of the Municipal Energy Centers (with a capacity of several hundred kW up to several MW). A unique project, specializing in “energy-plus” technologies for residential houses and other buildings, which aims to build a Research Centre of PAS in Jabłonna is also presented,. These are key technologies for energy sector with respect to distributed generation. Additionally, the article discusses the conditions and opportunities for the development of energy generation or more broadly: civic energy generation in our country. Civic energy generation is a great vision in which the citizen becomes an entity and do not subject to the energy market, and additionally has its virtual advisor in the form of smart grid and data processing technologies in a “digital cloud”.

Opis:
As a waste neutralization facility, the landfill is a kind of bioreactor producing landfill gas or (LFG) - biogas, which should be captured and neutralised for environmental reasons. One of the ways of its utilisation is the combined production of heat and electrical energy in combined heat and power (CHP) cogeneration systems. For that purpose, the assessment of the energy efficiency of a cogeneration unit was undertaken in this work on the basis of the unit performance over the last 5 years. The analysis of the CHP system energy performance demonstrated that the ratios range at the lower limits for units up to 0.5 MW. The lower efficiency of fuel chemical conversion in the CHP plant (0.70) stems from the failure to use the rated thermal and electrical power fully (74.2%), which is caused by the insufficient stream of biogas collected from the landfill (161.46 m3∙h-1). The analysis of the generated energy usage, particularly in terms of heat, has shown a surplus which is not used and therefore is a loss. The proposed solutions in this area should optimize the use of heat generated from the renewable source, i.e. landfill biogas.

The purpose of this article is to examine energy consumption broken down into consumption based on non-renewable sources, such as: coal, oil, natural gas and nuclear energy, and consumption based on renewable energy sources, such as: solar, wind, hydro, geothermal and biomass. The conducted research has shown that the consumption of primary energy is constantly growing, while the development of renewable energy still lags behind the pace of this growth (although its share in the total energy mix is growing year by year). The reason for this situation is mainly the fact that in many countries the economy is still based on conventional energy sources, and in some of them the consumption of primary energy is even significantly increasing (as is the case, for example, in China). For this reason, it seems reasonable to undertake various types of projects aimed at reducing the consumption of primary energy by individual countries, which, as 2019 showed, is absolutely possible.

Opis:
Energy security is a condition for the sustainable development of Poland. The paper is aimed at discussing problems related to ensuring energy security and presenting rational ways of solving them. The author justifies the need for a significant reduction in the burning of fossil fuels, among others, to reduce the emissions of many harmful substances. The need for efficient, reliable, controllable, and stable energy sources throughout the year, and in any weather has also been highlighted. Basing Polish energy on large wind and solar farms is prevented by the lack of effective methods for storing large amounts of electricity (e.e.). An important role in this respect may be played by massive development of small, distributed RES producing e.e. and heat for personal use and sending surplus e.e. to the network. The energy efficiency potential of production, and the related operating processes, can be considered an important resource. It is also necessary to significantly reduce the wastage of large amounts of energy to produce disposable, non-repairable, or low-quality products. The method used in the paper is a critical analysis of the current situation, along with improper solutions, using simple estimates, based on information from the available literature on the subject.
Bezpieczeństwo energetyczne jest warunkiem zrównoważonego rozwoju Polski. Celem pracy było omówienie problemów związanych z zapewnieniem bezpieczeństwa energetycznego i przedstawienie racjonalnych sposobów rozwiązania tych problemów. Uzasadniono konieczność znacznego ograniczenia spalania paliw kopalnych, m.in. w celu zmniejszenia emisji wielu szkodliwych substancji. W pracy zastosowano metodę krytycznej analizy obecnego stanu rzeczy i niewłaściwych rozwiązań wykorzystującą proste oszacowania oparte na informacjach z dostępnej literatury przedmiotu.

This work endeavours to define energy policy, comprehended in our times in comparison to threats and challenges to the functioning of the energy sector within the EU internal market. Analysis of the legal of the manifestations (acts) of the national and EU energy policy, the relationships between the national energy policy focused on achieving national targets inside a member state, as well as the energy and climate policy of the EU, its interpretation and considered scenarios of a change indicate only a partial discrepancy of both policies, directions and action strategies defined in them, which are accompanied by implementation instruments. On a domestic basis the objective of the energy policy is to balance the efforts of the players in the energy market to maximise the achieved financial effect with the necessity of the stable functioning and development of energy companies, above all, manufacturers and operators of a system compliant with this policy on the one side and customers expecting low prices, reliability and stability of supplies on the other side. Development of production based on emission-free and low-emission technologies (including renewable energy sources, RES) seems to be a necessity resulting from the EU legislation. In this respect the EU energy policy and the Union political discourse explicitly present a strong commitment to the development of new manufacturing technologies, without any encouragement to restitute or develop technologies not based on RES or cogeneration. The strategic task of the state is to skilfully combine Union tendencies with the Treaty freedom of the state to define use of indigenous sources of primary energy and carefully considered support for the transformation of the national power industry.

Opis:
The growing role of European Union regulations can be observed in the form of their increasing influence on member states' markets. Regulations are essentially based on the adoption of strategic documents which define expected directions of development for the markets. Energy policy defined guidelines and action plans should guarantee security of investment in the long term. Stable, long term policy and rules based thereon are usually guarantors of energy sector development and stable conditions for investors. European energy policy is based on three pillars tackling climate change, reducing the European Union's dependency and political addictions resulting from the import of fuels and energy, and support for economic growth and employment. European policy determines the realization of Polish energy policy, followed by particular regulations in the energy market as a result of the im¬plementation of European law. As a consequence, it also affects particular market entities. On the one hand, given that Poland's energy sector is based on coal, actions associated with reducing the impact of energy production on the environment are controversial and have increased resistance and a lack of acceptation in Poland. On the other hand, analyzing the implementation of existing national policies of European Union policy may give rise to the stability of the energy sector. This article presents the main directions of European energy policy reflected in the Community's regulations and their impact on the shaping of Polish energy policy. A potential revision of Polish energy policy is also depicted.

Energy security comprises of four factors: independence of energy sources; stability of energy system, electricity lines and pipelines; diversification of both foreign supplies of energy sources and energy mix structure; technology autarky meaning domestic ownership of energy enterprises. This paper is focused on the fourth factor. Author indicates that Poland has well developed industry of hard coal and lignite mining, building coal, wind and hydroelectric power plants. Polish industry’s shortage is a lack of domestic producer of steam and wind turbines. Polish companies have the smallest potential in building a nuclear power plant. In case polish government decided to build one it would cause a leakage of billions of zlotys abroad.

The cooperative movement has played a significant role in increasing the competitiveness of the economy and has promoted the European values of solidarity, self-government and democracy. In recent years, the cooperative idea has been linked with the local energy sector – in Europe and in Poland. The decentralization of energy production to local communities – thanks to the incredible development of new technologies in renewable energy – is now becoming a standard in Western Europe. These trends have also been visible in Poland for some time. Unfortunately, in Polish conditions the institution of cooperatives, including energy cooperatives, is negatively associated with the communist era. The main research question, around which the considerations in this article revolve, is as follows – why, despite the existence of a legal basis in Poland from 2016, energy cooperatives have not been created. The article will analyse the legal regulations relating to the functioning of the energy cooperative, taking into account its current status in the energy law.

The aim of this study is to analyze the factors which determined the shape of the energy culture of the Nordic countries. In order to complete this objective, the project presents the essence of the energy culture and the classification of factors which determine its form. The particular emphasis has been put on the overview of energy cultures adopted by the individual Nordic countries. The project also high-lights the fact that the main reasons, which determined the transition in the energy balance of the Nordic countries over the past forty years, were the oil crisis of the 1970s as well as the social expectations for the Nordic energy policy to be pursued in accordance with the idea of a balanced and sustainable devel-opment. These factors forced the countries to take actions to reduce their reliance on oil imports, which involved the diversification of the structure of energy sources as well as the popularization of nuclear energy and renewables (mainly hydropower, biomass and wind energy). The study indicates large disparities between energy balances of the Nordic countries. How-ever, despite those differences there are common features which allow defining the Nordic energy culture. It is associated with the inclination to diversify the structure of energy sources, meticulous care for the natural environment, the existence of the evolved Nordic electrical energy market with such electric power infrastructure which allows transmitting electricity between the Nordic coun-tries, as well as the close cooperation of said countries in the pursued energy policy. The key characteristic of the Nordic energy sector is its considerable electricity consumption on average per capita, which is related to the utilization of this type of energy in home heating and the com-petitive level of electrical energy prices.

Opis:
„Polityka energetyczna Polski”.
Great attention has been paid to the energy safety of countries in the last few years. It may generally be stated that energy safety is the state in which the economy allows the actual and future energy and fuel demand to be fulfilled. Fulfilling this demand should to be carried out in in technically and economically justified manner. Minimizing the harmful influence of the energy sector on the environment is a very important problem. This paper presents the current status and development strategy of energy systems in the context of changes occurring in selected European countries. We analyzed the development plans of selected European energy systems and compared these plans with the development strategy of Polish national energy system. At present, the final works on next version of the document entitled „Polityka energetyczna Polski” are underway. The formulated document should clearly indicate our goals for the upcoming years and help energy investment enterprises in making decisions. The goal of the paper is to show that in spite of plans of the EU energy policy, it is possible to carry out one’s own strategy of energy system development. Poland should therefore now create the optimal idea of energy mix.

Opis:
Hybrid energy generation incorporating the renewable energy sources is gaining recognition and importance in the world. Institute of Aviation has thus decided to open a project: construction of a portable energy source container, incorporating modern hybrid solutions. In this article, the basic approach to creating a model of such a hybrid energy source is described: an initial scheme and composition of a portable container hybrid energy source, consisting of a wind turbine, photovoltaic array, battery bank and a backup diesel generator is proposed. A preliminary model of the portable hybrid energy source container, with two separate control system schemes, was created in TRNSYS Simulation Studio software and is presented in this article. The data acquired from the TRNSYS simulations of the hybrid source container are gathered and organized, and then presented and analysed. From a theoretical point of view, it is interesting to see how the renewable based system characteristics differ with changing weather conditions, and how supporting the load is being switched between the renewable system and the diesel generator. From a practical point of view, it will be interesting to see the diesel fuel savings, and related to them lowered exhaust gases emission, coming from reduced diesel generator operation times. A problem of reducing emissions and fuel consumption, and matching the operation of energy generation to consumer need more flexibly that is offered by a hybrid source is particularly important.

Aim. The aim of the article is to investigate how energy topics are presented in the geography curriculum in Lithuania and how school geography becomes an educational response to the current global challenges related to energy production and consumption. Methods. The article presents research using several methods: review of literature on energy geography and energy literacy, analysis of Lithuanian national curriculum for geography, content analysis of 14 geography textbooks for forms 6–12, expert interview with 9 geography teachers. Results. The empirical research reveals that the national curriculum and textbooks still represent the old energy paradigm with a profound focus on fossil fuel and nuclear energy resources. Meanwhile, the new energy paradigm is realised in the teaching of experienced and qualified teachers who, in addition to the new green energy economy, emphasise environmental and social issues of energy use. Conclusions. The conclusions include observations on necessary changes in teaching energy geography: on the one hand, by revising the formal curriculum and textbooks and integrating concepts of energy literature and new energy developments; on the other hand, by initiating changes in primary and continuous teacher education. Professional development of teachers could include new energy topics, new teaching and learning sources (political debates in media, TV, strategic energy development documents), new teaching and learning strategies and methods.

Opis:
The use and development of renewable energy sources is one of the basic issues in the Poland’s Energy Policy until 2030. It is planned that the renewable energy technologies should constitute 25.4% of the overall power capacity in 2020. Solid biomass dominates in the structure of the production of renewable energy, whereas biofuels and solar energy constitute a fraction of one percent. The analysis of the dynamics of changes in the consumption of energy indicates the constant use of electricity, and a decreasing energy intensities GDP. The production of electricity based on renewable energy is increasing dynamically (indicated by the exponential form of the trend line) and the short-term forecast has a small error of predication – below 15%.
W strukturze produkcji z odnawialnych źródeł energii dominuje biomasa stała, zaś biopaliwa i energia słoneczna stanowią jej ułamek procenta. Analiza dynamiki zmian zużycia energii wskazuje na ciągły wzrost zużycia energii elektrycznej oraz malejącą energochłonność PKB. Produkcja energii elektrycznej z odnawialnych źródeł energii rośnie dynamicznie (opisana przez postać wykładniczą linii trendu) a jej prognoza krótkoterminowa jest obarczona małym błędem predykcji, poniżej 15%.
