Opis:
The paper presents the research on the relations between emotional competence and selected intellectual abilities along with temperament traits postulated by Jan Strelaus Regulative Theory of Temperament. The subjects were adults at age from 19 to 39. Emotional competence was measured with the PKIE (Popular Questionnaire of Emotional Intelligence, by Matczak at al.), emotional ability with the test TRE (Emotion Understanding Test, by Matczak and Piekarska), social and verbal abilities by tests selected from the API-Z battery (by Matczak at al.), and temperament traits by the FCZ-KT questionnaire (Formal Characteristics of Behavior, by Zawadzki and Strelau). Weak connections emotional competence with social and emotional abilities were found. Relation between emotional competence and temperament traits appeared to be stronger, especially those for activity and briskness (positive), and emotional reactivity (negative). Additionally, the interesting differences in the results, depending on subjects’ gender and the type of competence (connected with experiential and strategic emotional intelligence) were also found.

Opis:
The aim of the study was to investigate the relationships between emotional intelligence (EI) and temperament. It was assumed that the two main components of EI – experiential and strategic – have different temperament correlates. One hundred and four Polish university students aged 19 to 26 completed self-descriptive questionnaires of temperament and emotional intelligence. The results confirmed that the relationship with temperament depends on the examined component of EI. Acceptance of emotions (which is a subcomponent of experiential EI) only correlated with two temperamental traits – activity and briskness. Many more dependencies were found in relation to strategic EI. Endurance, strength of inhibition, sensory sensitivity and perseveration turned out to be significant predictors of emotional control, which jointly explained 44% of the variance in results, while perseveration and sensory sensitivity explained 28% of the variance in results on the understanding emotions scale. Based on the results obtained, it can be assumed that the configuration of temperament traits that determines a high capacity for processing stimulation is most conductive to strategic EI. Other propitious traits include those that determine the speed of neural processes, flexibility and ease of adaptation to changing conditions as well as a low sensitivity threshold to sensory stimulus.

Opis:
Introduction: Emotional intelligence can be determined by various factors related to the functioning of the family and the parents, including the parenting attitudes they display. Prior research confirms the relationship between some parenting attitudes and children’s emotional intelligence, though it has chiefly focused on adolescents. The aim of the presented research was to determine whether a relationship between emotional intelligence and parenting attitudes retrospectively evaluated by young adults exists, while taking into consideration the parent’s and the child’s gender, as well as the family characteristics. Method: Two hundred and fifty seven young adults, aged 20–25, students of various universities, were tested with the Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire (INTE) by Schutte, Malouff, Hall, Haggerty, Cooper, Golden, and Dornheim, adapted into Polish and standardized by Jaworowska and Matczak, as well as with the Retrospective Evaluation of Parenting Attitudes Questionnaire (KPR-Roc) by Plopa. The study also controlled for de-mographic factors. Results: A positive relationship exists between the mothers’ attitudes of acceptance/ rejection and autonomy and their daughters’ emotional intelligence and ability to utilize emotions in thinking and behavior. No relationship between the mothers’ parenting attitudes and the young women’s ability to recognize emotions was found. A weak relationship between the mothers’ attitude of acceptance and their sons’ emotional intelligence exists. Participants from conjugal families rated their mothers’ attitudes of acceptance/rejection, demands, and lack of consistency, as well as their fathers’ attitudes of acceptance/ rejection, autonomy, and lack of consistency more favorably than did participants from non-conjugal families. The relationship between parenting attitudes and children’s emotional intelligence can be determined by the type of the family of origin.

Introduction. The reactions of the father and the mother to a child’s speech disfluency arelikely to differ. The question also arises as to what factors form their reactions. Aim. The aim of the study was the comparison of the mothers’ and the fathers’ reactions to a child’s speech impediment, the assessment of emotional intelligence presented by the parents of children who stutter, as well as establishing the relationship between the emotional intelligence of the parents and their reaction to a child’s speech impediment. Material and method. The research involved 30 mothers and 30 fathers of 3-6-year-old stutterers (comprising 22 boys and 8 girls). Results. Reactions of the mothers and fathers to a child’s speech disfluency are similar, whereas the intensity of emotional reactions towards sons was statistically significantly higher (p<0.05) in the mothers than in the fathers. Both the overall level of emotional intelligence and the levels for individual scales were statistically significantly higher in the mothers (p<0.05, p<0.01, p<0.001). A positive relationship of medium strength was found between the capacity for empathy and the cognitive scale as well as between the ability to control their own emotions and the behavioural scale in the mothers. In the fathers researched in this study, a positive relationship of medium strength between the ability to empathize and the emotional scale was observed. Conclusion. The level of emotional intelligence appears to be a factor which shapes parents’ reactions to children’s speech disfluency.

Research shows that positive affective displays in customer service interactions are positively related to customers’ perception of overall service quality. Consequently, the way customer service employees manage their feelings is seen as an important aspect of providing their services. In most service contexts, employees are expected to express positive emotions, e.g., be cheerful and suppress negative emotions, such as resentment. Emotional labor is regarded as a type of impression management, because it involves deliberate effort undertaken by service workers in order to adhere to organizational display rules when dealing with customers. Surface acting is an emotional labor strategy and consists of managing observable emotional expression without modifying underlying genuine feelings (service with a fake smile). Research shows that surface acting is positively related to employee burnout. The present study (N=180) was designed to examine the effects of surface acting on emotional exhaustion while controlling for employees’ trait emotional intelligence. The results demonstrated that employees who declared greater use of surface acting during their interactions with customers reported more symptoms of emotional exhaustion. As predicted, however, this effect was observed only among employees low in trait emotional intelligence. The discussion encompasses the implications these results may have for managing emotional expression in public performance that may result in reducing performance anxiety.

Purpose: The purpose of this article is to determine the effects of emotional intelligence (EI) on job satisfaction and to examine whether ethical climate has a mediating role in this effect. Methodology: The study was conducted among employees of sales organizations in the automotive industry. Relationships between variables were determined by correlation and bootstrap regression analysis with data from 127 participants. Findings: The results revealed that emotional intelligence shows statistically positive and significant relationships with job satisfaction and ethical climate. Moreover, positive correlation was determined between ethical climate and job satisfaction. The most important result is the decrease of the effect of emotional intelligence on job satisfaction in the triple relationship that includes ethical climate. The findings indicated that the relationship between emotional intelligence levels and employees’ perception of organizational ethical climate weakened their impact on job satisfaction. Implication: Ethical climate has a mediating effect on the relationship between emotional intelligence and job satisfaction. The relationship between emotional intelligence levels and job satisfaction is indirectly strengthened by ethical climate. However, the triple relationship of variables weakens the effect of emotional intelligence on job satisfaction.

Presented conspect devoted to the subject of cooperation between the coach and the player in individual disciplines of competitive sports concerns the impact of the level of trainer's emotional intelligence to engage in efforts to improve the quality of relationships and a sense of commonality and purpose of a cooperating player. The literature suggests that in order to build and sustain commitment to the player by the coach it is important to include mutual trust, positive relationship and clearly defined goal acceptable to both parties. (Czajkowski 1994). The existing research related to the topic of Emotional Intelligence suggests its impact on many aspects of human functioning in the positive relationship with the environment and the satisfaction and success in the workplace. (Jaworska and Matczak 2005). The indicated dimensions play an important role in the prevention of burnout and improve the quality of cooperation between the coach and the player. Studies carried out on a sample of 48 cooperating sports teams (trainer - athlete) have shown that a significant level of trainers' emotional competence affects the emotional aspect related to the purpose of their trained athletes. Athletes working with trainers who present higher levels of emotional intelligence showed greater satisfaction derived from activities aimed at achieving a common goal and mutual relationship and declared a common vision for the future. These data suggest that the level of trainers' emotional intelligence may be important not only for motivation of cooperating players, but also for the satisfaction they derive from their work, helping to increase the quality of life in the workplace. At the same time, it could reduce the risk of burnout, not only athletes but also trainers.

Opis:
Leadership of graduate managers has become a focal point of many employers worldwide. Leadership development is in high demand and leadership initiatives are an effective tool for career development in the corporate environment. The objectives of the study were to assess the Transformational Leadership (TL) and Emotional Intelligence (EI) level of graduate managers, and to analyse the relationship between their EI and TL performances at work. The role of gender in leadership was examined. Sixty three graduate managers (33 men, and 30 women) who are following the masters' degree programme were randomly selected from a Sri Lankan university. The Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire of Bass and Avolio, was used to assess the leadership style performances of the respondents. Genos EI Inventory was used to measure their EI level. Descriptive and inferential analyses of data were conducted using SPSS software. Respondents recorded higher scores for TL performances at work. Respondents' EI levels and TL styles re?ected a difference with regard to their gender. Respondents have scored slightly lower scores for the EI sub-constructs in comparison to the normative figures of Genos EI. The higher fluctuation of Mean values of respondents indicated the volatility of the reasoning ability of respondents. The fact that graduate managers depicted higher scores for progressive leadership styles and lower scores for passive leadership styles augurs well for their career development. Emotional Intelligence of men significantly related with their Transformational leadership style. Study concludes that high Transformational leadership of Sri Lankan graduates managers and manageresses, and the relationship of Transformational Leadership with managers EI as well, could enhance management and production performances in corporate environments.

The aim of the study is to establish the level of social competences and emotional intelligence amongst future P.E. teachers. The method of diagnostic survey is applied and the Questionnaire of Social Competences (SCQ) and the Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire (INTE) – which is a Polish adaptation of a tool by Nicola S. Schutte et al. – are used in the study. The research was conducted in April and November 2012. The researched were 1st and the 2nd level students of the teaching specialisation of the Faculty of Physical Education, the UPE in Warsaw. Their total number was 156 – 70 women and 86 men aged 20-27. It was found that the women had a higher level of social competences in the field of dealing with personal situations and the men had a higher level of social competences in situations requiring assertiveness. The women had a higher rate of emotional intelligence. No differences were found in rates of the researched persons' social competences and emotional intelligence regarding the level of studies. It was found that the respondents had a higher rate of social competences and the same rate of emotional intelligence in comparison with the results of the standardizing research. Conclusions 1. Significant differences exist between the women and the men researched in the field of abilities for building social relationships. The women are more inclined to base those relations on intimacy and the men – on assertiveness. 2. There is a need to stimulate the development of PE teachers' social competences and emotional intelligence during the stage of university studies and after starting professional activity. Natural social training in the work environment and standard activities during studies seem insufficient for development of these kinds of predispositions.

According to the collected data, emotional intelligence of most of the students is average, and the belief concerning the level of this competence is overestimated in many cases. This result is particularly unsatisfactory for those associating their future with the teaching profession, for they are expected to have better interpersonal skills.

There is a certain amount of research that proves that positive emotions and mood play an important role in creative human activity (Abele-Brehm, 1992; Tokarz, 2011; Kunat, 2015). Particularly valuable is ability to recognise emotions and communicate them. It is also important to accept experienced emotions, gain a skill to react accordingly as well as ability to evoke and regulate emotions. According to Salovey and Mayer’s model, the aforementioned dispositions are elements of emotional intelligence. It turns out that emotional intelligence can stimulate creative activity since it enables management of emotional expenditure (Nęcka, 2001). The paper presents results of research conducted among teachers of primary schools. It was assumed that there is a correlation between emotional intelligence and creative activity of teachers. The research can contribute to development of emotional skills of teachers and to intensify their creative activity. That, in turn, can translate into shaping of innovative school environment that fits the needs of contemporary young person - a student.

The purpose of the article is to present the results of testing the emotional intelligence of the future physicians who tend to hide professional mistakes. The article is based on the study involving 129 students who are studying in the specialties “Medical business”, “Medical psychology”, “Pediatrics”, “Dentistry” at the medical-psychological, dental and medical faculties of the O.O. Bohomolets National Medical University. During the study, the following methods were used: 1) The Error-Oriented Motivation Scale (EOMS) in order to measure a tendency to hide professional mistakes; 2) The Emotional Intelligence Scale in order to determine the level of emotional intelligence. Statistical processing of the study results was performed using 1) descriptive statistics (percentages, arithmetic means, standard deviations); 2) Student’s T-test to compare the emotional intelligence level in the groups of future physicians with different levels of propensity to hide professional mistakes. The study has found that a significant number of future physicians (53.5%) showed a tendency to hide their professional mistakes. The respondents in this group are characterized with low and medium levels of emotional intelligence compared to future physicians who strive to learn from their mistakes. This study has demonstrated that the vast majority of future physicians believe that professional errors should be hidden, which, in turn, does not contribute to their professional development; the future physicians who tend to hide professional mistakes have low levels of emotional awareness, ability to manage one’s emotions, self-motivation, empathy, ability to manage other people’s emotions. The development of emotional intelligence would apparently contribute to a more conscious attitude of future physicians to professional activities as well as more common-sense attitude to mistakes, and this poses new challenges for medical education to form emotional intelligence of future medical professionals.

This study investigates the relationship between EI and the state of mental health of unemployed persons. Gender differences were also identified in terms of mental health and its correlation with EI. A sample of 160 Polish unemployed persons aged 35 to 45 years filled in self-descriptive measures of EI and mental health. Significant gender differences were found – unemployed women were characterised by a greater intensity of mental health disorders than unemployed men. EI was negatively correlated with mental health disorders, but the correlations were few and weaker than expected. However, when unemployed persons with a low, average and high EI were compared, it turned out that participants with a low EI were characterised by a significantly worse condition of mental health than participants with a average or high EI.

Age differences in emotional intelligence – are we getting better? Processing of emotional information in adolescence and mature age This study examined relationships between age and the ability to process emotional information. Emotion processing is defined as the ability to organize and represent emotional experience and includes the ability to recognize and label facial expressions of basic emotions, the ability to express emotions, and the ability to regulate the intensity with which emotions are perceived and experienced (Bland, Williams, Scharer, Manning, 2004). The ability to process emotional information is a basic concept of emotional intelligence (Mayer, Caruso, Salovey, 1999). The participants were 77 (37 females and 40 males) in two groups: adolescents (N=38) and middle-aged (N=39). Processing emotional information was measured by Processing of Emotional Information Test (Szczygieł, 2002), based on the theory of cognitive representation of emotion (Maruszewski, Ścigała, 1995). Hypotheses related to age differences, implying that older people process emotional information more accurately than younger was supported in relation to processing of more complex and differentiated material (nonverbal feature). The interpretation of results was performed in reference to the theory of socioemotional selectivity and the concept of postformal thinking. Socioemotional selectivity theory (Carstensen, 1995; Carstensen,Isaacowitz, & Charles, 1999) asserts that changes in the life of older adults result from motivational changes. The concept of postformal thinking assumes a progression in thinking from dualistic or absolutist thought to more subjectively determined modes of thinking in which the relativistic and/or dialectical nature of knowledge is more thoroughly understood (Labouvie-Vief, Diehl, 2000; Kielar-Turska, 2000; Gurba, 2006).

This study investigated the relationships between emotional intelligence (EI) and conflict resolution strategies in romantic heterosexual couples. 164 couples solved the Test of Emotional Intelligence (TIE), a Polish measure based on the ability model of EI, and the Problem-Solving Strategies Inventory (PSSI) in two versions: self-report and a report of partner’s behavior. We assumed that individuals high in EI should have superior confl ict resolution skills and engage in active and constructive strategies, avoiding those characterized as passive and destructive. These hypotheses were supported for women, but not for men. Females’ EI was consistently positively related to self-report measures of Voice, and negatively related to self-reports of Neglect. Emotionally intelligent men did not declare use of more constructive or positive confl ict resolution styles; however, their female partners judged them as more prone to use of those strategies. The results also revealed a positive assortative mating effect with regard to EI. Additionally, the study demonstrated an interesting disparity between male and female’s reports on relationship behaviors.

Opis:
Traditionally, most of the research on occupational burnout has focused on organizational stressors, such as workload and time pressure, and has overlooked the emotional nature of customer service work and its effect on burnout. This study was designed to examine the effects of individuals’ affective traits (i.e., dispositional affectivity and emotional intelligence) and affective states (i.e., emotions experienced at work) on burnout. The main hypothesis of this study was that emotional intelligence acts as a moderator in the relationship between negative emotions felt by employees during their interactions with clients and emotional exhaustion. A total of 137 service sector employees rated the extent to which they felt four positive emotions (i.e., contentment, enthusiasm, joy, and liking) and four negative emotions (i.e., irritation, annoyance, antipathy, and anger) while interacting with clients. The results indicated that negative affectivity was signifi cantly associated with higher levels of emotional exhaustion, whereas high positive affectivity showed the reverse pattern. It was also observed that employees who declared greater intensity of negative emotions reported more symptoms of emotional exhaustion. However, as predicted, this effect was observed only among employees who were low in the trait of emotional intelligence. Negative emotions and emotional exhaustion were unrelated among employees who were high in trait emotional intelligence.

Opis:
Modern psychology is increasingly interested in phenomena related to the flourishing of a human being, such as mindfulness or emotional intelligence (EI). Mindfulness, according to Kabat-Zinn, is “the awareness that emerges through paying attention on purpose, in the present moment, and nonjudgmentally to the unfolding of experience moment by moment” including the experience of emotions. The most widely studied EI concept was introduced by Salovey and Mayer. They defined it as the ability to monitor emotions and use this information to guide one’s thinking and actions. One of the skills involved in EI is the recognition of emotions based on facial expressions. Interestingly, there is no link between self-reported emotional intelligence, measured by a questionnaire, and the ability to recognize facial expressions measured by a task test. Mindful people are more attuned to their implicit emotions and can reflect this awareness in their explicit self--descriptions. The purpose of this study is to examine the relationships between mindfulness and emotional intelligence, and to examine the moderating role of mindfulness in the relationship between self-reported EI and the ability to recognize facial expressions. The participants were 120 students from different universities of Lublin, Poland, who completed the Mindful Attention Awareness Scale (MAAS) by Brown and Ryan as translated into Polish by Jankowski, the Schutte Self-Report Inventory as adapted into Polish by Jaworowska and Matczak (Kwestionariusz Inteligencji Emocjonalnej; INTE), and the Emotional Intelligence Scale – Faces (Skala Inteligencji Emocjonalnej – Twarze; SIE-T) developed by Matczak, Piekarska, and Studniarek. The results show a positive relationship of emotional intelligence with mindfulness. A positive correlation was also found between mindfulness and the recognition of emotions, which is a component of EI. There was no correlation between mindfulness and the other EI component – using emotional information to guide one’s thinking and actions. As expected, there was no relationship between self-reported EI and the ability to recognize facial expressions, but – contrary to expectations – mindfulness was not a moderator of this relationship.

Opis:
Wykorzystano w nich dwa testy autorstwa A. Matczak, J. Piekarskiej i E. Studniarek, kwestionariusz DOTS-R M. Windle’a i R. M. Lernera, w polskiej adaptacji M. Śliwińskiej, B. Zawadzkiego i J. Strelaua, oraz kwestionariusz PCR A. Roe i M. Siegelmana, w polskiej adaptacji W. S. Kowalskiego.
The starting point for this study was an assumption that emotional intelligence develops as a result of the individual’s own activity. This activity, however, is determined to a considerable degree by temperament as well as by influence of family environment – mainly by parental attitudes. Windle’s and Lerner’s DOTS-R inventory in the Polish adaptation (by Strelau, Zawadzki and Śliwińska), Roe and Siegelman’s PCR inventory in the Polish adaptation (by Kowalski) and two tests by Matczak, Piekarska and Studniarek were utilized in this study. The results showed that a positive correlation existed between emotional intelligence and positive mood, flexibility and rhythmic of sleep. Furthermore, in the group of women, significant positive correlations were observed of emotional intelligence and approaching and rhythmic of everyday habits. In the group of men, emotional intelligence correlated negatively with general level of activity. Emotional intelligence was also found to correlate with certain parental attitudes (mainly with love and reject). In this respect, different correlation patterns were observed for men and women. In women, a negative correlation was observed between emotional intelligence and intensity of the liberal attitude of mothers, whereas in men emotional intelligence correlated negatively with the protecting attitude of fathers.

Mindfulness-based stress reduction has been shown to be effective in reducing stress levels and developing emotional competencies in nursing students, however, in some countries such as Morocco, this practice remains unexplored. The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of a mindful- ness-based stress reduction program on nursing students. The study used a quasi-experimental design in a single pre- test-post-test group with 20 nursing students from the Higher Institute of Nursing Professions and Health Techniques of Tetouan. Data were collected using a personal information form, the Perceived Stress Scale in Clinical Practicum (PSS- CP), and the Emotional Intelligence Scale (EIS). The results of the study indicate that the students' mean score on the PSS-CP scale was 2.19 ± 1.35 in the pretest, but decreased to 1.89 ± 1.28 in the posttest (p < .05). While the students' mean EIS score was 3.44 ± 1.26 in the pretest, it in creased to 3.76 ± 1.19 in the posttest (p < 0.05). A statistically significant relationship was found between perceived stress and EIS scores (r = 0.864, p < 0.05). Mindfulness-based stress reduction program training can improve psychological health by developing emotional competence and reducing stress in nursing students.

Purpose: The research objective was to examine to what extent line manager competencies are linked to intelligence, and more specifically, three types of intelligence: analytical (fluid), practical and emotional. Methodology: The research was carried out with line managers (N=98) who took part in 12 Assessment Centre sessions and completed tests measuring analytical, practical and emotional intelligence. The adopted hypotheses were tested using a multiple regression. In the regression model, the dependent variable was a managerial competency (management and striving for results, social skills, openness to change, problem solving, employee development) and the explanatory variables were the three types of intelligence. Five models, each for a separate management competency, were tested in this way. Findings: In the study, it was hypothesized that practical intelligence relates to procedural tacit knowledge and is the strongest indicator of managerial competency. Analysis of the study results testing this hypothesis indicated that practical intelligence largely accounts for the level of competency used in managerial work (from 21% to 38%). The study findings suggest that practical intelligence is a better indicator of managerial competencies among line managers than traditionally measured IQ or emotional intelligence. Originality: This research fills an important gap in the literature on the subject, indicating the links between major contemporary selection indicators (i.e., analytical, practical and emotional intelligence) and managerial competencies presented in realistic work simulations measured using the Assessment Centre process.

Introduction: The contact which occurs between a medical professional and a patient involves the occurrence of phenomena concerning the control of emotions, called emotional labour. The aim of the paper was to review specialist literature relating to emotional labour present in medical occupations. Material and method: With the use of EBSCO, Medline, ScienceDirect, Ovid MEDLINE databases and the PubMed search engine, relevant English-language full text articles published in 2010– 2017 were selected. Results: Sixty-two articles were selected that complied with the assumed criteria for the description of the issue. The articles concerned four thematic groups: emotional labour occurrence in various medical professions, the intrapersonal aspects of emotional labour, the interpersonal and organisational aspects of emotional labour and the negative consequences of emotional labour. Conclusions: The number of review and source articles confirming the presence of emotional labour in medical professions is growing year by year. In the health care system, emotional labour is still not a widely acknowledged phenomenon, with hardly any specialist training courses aimed at employees, and few organisational changes that would favour constructive methods of copying with the negative consequences of emotional labour.
Wstęp: W trakcie kontaktu pracownika medycznego z pacjentem zachodzą zjawiska związane z regulacją emocji nazywane pracą emocjonalną. Celem artykułu był przegląd literatury fachowej dotyczącej pracy emocjonalnej występującej w zawodach medycznych. Materiał i metoda: Za pomocą baz danych EBSCO, Medline, ScienceDirect, Ovid MEDLINE oraz wyszukiwarki PubMed wybrano artykuły anglojęzyczne i pełnotekstowe opublikowane w latach 2010–2017. Wyniki: Wybrano 62 artykuły spełniające założone kryteria do opisu omawianego zagadnienia. Artykuły dotyczyły czterech grup tematycznych: występowania pracy emocjonalnej w różnych zawodach medycznych, intrapersonalnych aspektów pracy emocjonalnej, interpersonalnych i organizacyjnych aspektów pracy emocjonalnej oraz negatywnych jej następstw. Wnioski: Rokrocznie rośnie liczba artykułów przeglądowych i źródłowych potwierdzających występowanie pracy emocjonalnej w zawodach medycznych. Praca emocjonalna w służbie zdrowia jest zjawiskiem nadal zbyt mało upowszechnionym, brakuje specjalistycznych kursów adresowanych do pracowników oraz zmian organizacyjnych sprzyjających konstruktywnym metodom radzenia sobie z negatywnymi jej następstwami.

Opis:
Introduction: Crossing the next level of educational system as well as challenges pupils meet at school every day cause unpleasant emotions and contribute to disorder in their self-esteem, relations with other people and make it difficult to develop social skills. All that leads to adjustment disorder.Description of the state of scientific knowledge: According to the research presented in Polish and foreign literature, the pupils, including those with special educational needs, quite often have problems with acquiring social and emotional skills and have problems to adjust to or cope with individual stress or social life events. In the article a case study of primary school pupil diagnosed as having emotional and behavioral disorder is presented and analysed. The importance of developing emotional skills among pupils in early education stage is stressed.Summing up: Pupils with adjustment problems may be helped by developing their social skills/competences and emotional intelligence. The research proves that some emotional skills may be taught. Emotional intelligence, as each young construct, may be controversial but in the future it will be seen how important it is in the life of a human being.

The study is based on the research analyses of K.V. Petrides’ (2011) trait emotional intelligence construct verified by his Trait Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire-TEIQue. Verification of the EI trait construct by stepwise regression analysis confirmed that it is determined only to a certain extent by the Big Five personality factors theory (14%) (by the TIPI questionnaire, Gosling, 2003) and by perception and experiencing of positive (15%) and negative (13%) mental states (by the SEHW questionnaire, Džuka & Dalbert, 2002). Thus, the emotional intelligence trait as a consistent construct partially captures individual variability of emotional aspects otherwise scattered across personality theories.

This article reports a study investigating the effect of emotional intelligence (EI) awareness-raising on Iranian university students’ overall as well as variable-specific L2 motivation. The 136 participants (107 males, 29 females) were divided into a control group and an experimental group, both of which completed the same motivation questionnaire at the beginning and end of the study, with the latter receiving EI awareness-raising in seven sessions over a seven-week period. The results of paired and independent sample t tests showed that EI awareness-raising did not have any statistically significant positive effect on Iranian university students’ overall L2 motivation, but they had a statistically significant positive effect on the Instrumentality- prevention aspect of L2 motivation. The study highlights the importance of becoming familiar with and applying three motivational strategies which may be considered as universal motivational strategies.

Interpersonal communication is a dynamic, complex process, and is conditioned by many factors, among which one of the most important roles is played by the personality of interaction partners. The article presents results of research on the influence of extraversion and emotional intelligence on selected aspects of communication when the process is mediated by the Internet. The study involved young adults (N = 51) aged 21–27 (M = 24.27; SD = 1.65; Md = 24), mostly women (Nk = 26; K/M = 1.08), who responded to the invitation to the study published on Facebook. The survey was conducted in the period from December 2019 to February 2020, through Messenger and GoogleForms to collect the results in personality questionnaires. On the basis of the correlation coefficients obtained, it can be assumed that the level of extraversion (r = .397, p = .002; r = 414, p < .001 and the level of emotional intelligence (r = .331, p = .009; r = .411, p < .001) may be responsible for the expression of emotions and productivity of the speech in an intermediary conversation. Due to the results of the conducted research, we put forward a thesis that the mediation of contact with another person thanks to the currently developed systems of smileys, does not lead to impoverishment of the emotional layer of the message.

Aim. The aim of this research is comparing the role of personality traits and emotional intelligence between women who experienced domestic violence and  a control group. Methods. The statistical population of the study includes all women (700 participants) referred to the judicial authorities of Ardabil province in 2019.The research sample included 30 women who experienced domestic violence and 30 women as control group (not experienced domestic violence) who were selected by available sampling method. To measure emotional intelligence and personality traits, the Bar-on Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire and NEO Questionnaire was used. The questionnaires briefly describe and evaluate the two complex concepts of emotional intelligence and current emotional health. Data analysis was performed using SPSS statistical software and MANOVA. The main variables of the research were neuroticism, extroversion, openness, agreeableness, extra-individual skills, conscientiousness, interpersonal skills, adaptability, stress control and public mood. Results. The findings of the research have shown that among the characteristics of the five major personality factors (NEO), only the neuroticism component was more prevalent among women who experienced domestic violence, and the rest of the personality traits (extroversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, and openness to new experiences) among control group were higher (P<0.05). Also, all components of emotional intelligence (extra-individual skills, intrapersonal skills, adaptability, stress control, and public mood) were higher among control group than those of women who experienced domestic violence (P<0.05).   Conlusion. As a result, it can be acknowledged that personality traits and emotional intelligence abilities are among the main factors related to domestic violence and are very important in preventing this violence.

Opis:
The present paper work contains aspects about the emotional intelligence, which has become a popular topic in the business press in recent years. The primary aim of the work paper is to help readers get a view of current conceptualizations of emotional intelligence, while providing an opportunity to see the interferences ans similarities between it, management and leadership. This work paper also contains some aspects regarding a study which reflects emotional intelligence in Romania, whose results were interpreted and analyzed. We all know that leadership abilities vary according to rater perspective and level of emotional intelligence. In general, co-workers seem to appreciate managers' abilities to control their impulses and anger, to withstand adverse events and stressful situations, to be happy with life, and to be a cooperative member of the group. These leaders are more likely to be seen as participative, self-aware, composed, and balanced. This subject was chosen subject because -in authors' opinion- the ability to demonstrate yourself as a cooperative, contributing, and constructive member of one group is critical for long-term career success.

Zbadano 257 młodych dorosłych, w wieku 20–25 lat, studentów różnych uczelni, stosując Kwestionariusz Inteligencji Emocjonalnej (INTE) autorstwa Schutte i in. w polskiej adaptacji i standaryzacji Jaworowskiej i Matczak (2008) oraz Kwestionariusz Retrospektywnej Oceny Postaw Rodziców (KPR-Roc) autorstwa Plopy. W badaniu uwzględniono również zmienne demograficzne. Istnieją pozytywne zależności między postawami rodzicielskimi matek w zakresie akceptacji/odrzucenia i autonomii a inteligencją emocjonalną córek i ich zdolnością do wykorzystywania emocji w myśleniu i działaniu. Nie stwierdzono zależności między postawami rodzicielskimi matek a zdolnością młodych kobiet do rozpoznawania emocji. Istnieje niewielki związek między akceptującą postawą matek a inteligencją emocjonalną synów. Osoby pochodzące z rodzin pełnych, korzystniej niż osoby pochodzące z rodzin innych niż pełna, oceniają postawy matek w zakresie akceptacji/odrzucenia, wymagań i niekonsekwencji oraz postawy ojców w zakresie akceptacji/odrzucenia, autonomii i niekonsekwencji.
Emotional intelligence can be determined by various factors related to the functioning of the family and the parents, including the parenting attitudes they display. Two hundred and fifty seven young adults, aged between 20 and 25 years old, who were students of various universities, were tested the Polish version (standardized by Jaworowska and Matczak) of the Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire (INTE) by Schutte, Malouff, Hall, Haggerty, Cooper, Golden, as well as with the Retrospective Evaluation of Parenting Attitudes Questionnaire (KPR-Roc) by Plopa. The study also controlled for demographic factors. A positive relationship was found between the mothers’ attitudes of acceptance/rejection and autonomy and their daughters’ emotional intelligence and ability to utilize emotions in thinking and behavior. No relationship between the mothers’ parenting attitudes and the young women’s ability to recognize emotions was found. A weak relationship between the mothers’ attitude of acceptance and their sons’ emotional intelligence emerged. Participants from conjugal families rated their mothers’ attitudes of acceptance/rejection, demands, and lack of consistency, as well as their fathers’ attitudes of acceptance/rejection, autonomy, and lack of consistency more favorably than did participants from non-conjugal families. The relationship between parenting attitudes and children’s emotional intelligence can be determined by the type of the family of origin.

Opis:
The rate at which students are dropping out of schools in recent time is worrisome and it calls for serious interventions from educational stakeholders. Education is very expedient for the development of an individual as well as that of any society that aspires to be relevant in the 21st century. Education, at all levels, is associated with a set of positive factors for work life, social and personal wellbeing as well as the improvement of the economy of any nation. It can then be deduced that education is sine qua non to the development of an individual and that of any nation. Dropping out of school is not only detrimental to the individual but also increases the likelihood of unemployment, violence activities, kidnapping thuggery, armed robbery and other social vices. This study, therefore, investigated the influence of family dysfunction and emotional intelligence on school dropout intention among police officers’ children in Lagos state. This study employed a survey research design. The study made use of simple random sampling technique. Two hundred and twenty (220) respondents comprising 98 males and 122 females from two police secondary schools in Lagos state were used for the study. Three Standardised instruments were used in collection of data for the study. These are: School dropout intention scale (alpha = .84) family dysfunction scale (alpha = 0.85) and emotional intelligence scale a = .88). Data from the study were analyzed using the Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPMC) and multiple regression analysis (ANOVA). The result revealed that the two independent variables had significant relationship with dropout intention among police officers’ children. Family dysfunction (r = .902, p < .05), emotional intelligence (r = .383, p < .05. Also, the two factors jointly contributed 41.2% of the variance to dropout intention among the police officers’ children.(Adj. R2 = .412) In terms of magnitude of contribution, family dysfunction made the most significant contribution (Beta = .223, t = 2.429, p < 0.05) followed by emotional intelligence (Beta = .106, t = 2.115, p < 0.05) Based on these findings, the study concluded that dropout intentions of police officers’ children are determined by family dysfunction as well as emotional intelligence. Recommendations and suggestions were offered to various significant stakeholders.

The study was aimed at validating the Polish version of the Trait Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire-Short Form (TEIQue-SF). Our findings confirm the reliability and validity of the scale. With respect to reliability, internal consistency coefficients of the TEIQue-SF were comparable to those obtained using the original English version. The evidence of the validity of the TEIQue-SF came from the pattern of relations with the other self-report measure of EI, personality measures, as well as affective and social correlates. We demonstrated that the TEIQue-SF score correlated positively with scores on the Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire (INTE) (Jaworowska & Matczak, 2001). The TEIQue- SF score correlated negatively with Neuroticism and positively with Extraversion, Openness, Agreeableness, and Conscientiousness. In addition, scores on the TEIQue-SF were related to dispositional affect, i.e., correlated positively with positive affectivity and negatively with negative affectivity. The TEIQue-SF score correlated positively with social competencies as measured with the Social Competencies Questionnaire (Matczak, 2001). We also found that trait EI, as measured with the TEIQue-SF, was positively related to the richness of one’s supportive social network and this relationship remained statistically significant even after controlling for Big Five variance. We also demonstrated that scoring on the TEIQue-SF was positively related to satisfaction with life and negatively related to perceived stress and these relationships remained significant, even after controlling for positive and negative affectivity. Taken together, these findings suggest that the Polish version of the TEIQue-SF is a reliable and valid measure that inherits the network of associations both from the original version of the TEIQue-SF and the full form of the Polish TEIQue (Wytykowska & Petrides, 2007).

Do emotional abilities relate to specifi c strategies of emotion regulation? Do people with higher emotional intelligence (EI) use more effi cient affect regulation strategies? In the current study we tried to answer these questions. Using a sample of 349 undergraduate students, the present study explored the relationships between emotional intelligence (assessed with performance measure) and the habitual use of suppression and reappraisal. Results showed that higher emotional intelligence was related to more frequent use of reappraisal, and less frequent employment of suppression. As in the previous studies, males and females signifi cantly differed in suppression: men suppressed more than women. However, our results revealed that this difference could be attributed only to men with low EI. Emotionally unintelligent men used suppression more frequently not only in comparison to women, but also to men with higher EI. With respect to the habitual use of reappraisal, only men disclosed a signifi cant relation to EI level: those male participants who revealed the highest EI level declared employment of reappraisal more frequently than other groups.

After the Hungarian validation of TEIQUe (Petrides, 2009) emotional intelligence measurement and Kankanhalli’s Knowledge Sharing scale (Kankanhalli et al., 2005), correlation analyses have been adopted to test the hypotheses.Findings: Significant positive relationship can be identified between employees’ emotional intelligence and knowledge sharing behaviour. Well-being, emotionality, self-control and sociability as emotional intelligence factors show relation to altruism, loss of knowledge and reputation. Among individual factors, differences can be identified regarding generation and position, while gender and education do not seem to play a significant role in this relationship. Regarding organisational characteristics, differences can be detected according to the size of the organisation.Practical implications: The outcome of the research can help companies, managers and HR specialists to learn how to trigger knowledge sharing behaviour according to gender and position while taking the size of the organisation into consideration.Original value: The original value of the research is that specific emotional intelligence traits have been identified to detect knowledge sharing behaviour regarding individual and organisational characteristics. The presented paper has been the first study to

Emotional intelligence (EI) is conceptualized as a personality trait or an ability. Most of conducted studies on EI-coping association referred to trait emotional intelligence. Therefore, the role of ability emotional intelligence is less clear and need to be further studied. The present study examined the relationship between two EI abilities (emotion recognizing and emotion understanding) and stress coping strategies in adolescent men and women. The data were collected from 1033 Polish high school students (520 men and 512 women) aged 18-20 years (Mage = 18.46 years). Coping strategies were assessed using the COPE inventory and emotional abilities were measured using the Emotional Intelligence Scale – Faces (SIE-T) and the Emotion Understanding Test (TRE). The results supported the existence of an association between EI abilities and coping strategies. The analyses of the interaction effects revealed the moderating role of gender on some of the relationships between EI abilities and coping strategies.

The human ability to “cope in life” is not, as Daniel Goleman asserted at the end of the 20th century, based only on an individual’s cognitive skills. Goleman’s assertion decisively changed the way that individuals think about man’s “emotional talents,” but the reality is that emotional skills are largely congenital, even though current research demonstrates that they can be developed. Indeed, research in the social sciences has been focusing on emotional intelligence, which may be an important determinant of education quality. This article presents the results of research on the state of the emotional intelligence of students who are preparing to become teachers. This research is part of a broader project that seeks to determine the emotional factors that aid the education process.

The paper discusses emotional intelligence as a factor of effective teaching. Emotional intelligence, in broad interpretation, is defined as the ability to differentiate between posi-tive and negative emotions, and the ability to change one’s emotional condition from a poor to a better one. Internal and external components are inherent in the emotional com-ponent, and they can provide stress protecting and adaptive functions of this integral con-cept. Also it highlights psychological characteristics of teachers working with children with developmental disorders. Psychological requirements for specialists who work with indi-viduals with special educational needs include psychological willingness of a personality for this work. This willingness can be considered as an integrated quality of a personality including a system of motivation, knowledge, skills, certain experience, personal qualities that ensure successful activity.

This study investigates emotional intelligence (EI) among gifted people (n = 43). There were used three tests to assess general level of emotional intelligence or EI components: Emotional Intelligence Test (TIE), Emotional Intelligence Scale-Faces (SIE-T) and Test of Emotion Understanding (TRE). In addition, self-esteem of subjects was analyzed in terms of EI. Results showed that: (1) Subjects have higher general EI (t = 5.33, p < 0.0001) and higher scores for EI components compared with the average scores in the polish population (from t = 3.27, p < 0.005 for managing emotions to t = 6,13, p < 0.0001 for understanding emotions), (2) Subjects underestimated their performance in self-reports (from t = -5.76, p < 0.0001 to t = -8.67, p < 0.0001). The implications of having high EI by gifted people and their underestimation of EI are discussed.
W badaniu analizowano samoocenę w zakresie inteligencji emocjonalnej (IE) oraz poziom inteligencji emocjonalnej wśród osób (n = 43) należących do Stowarzyszenia Mensa Polska.

Emotional intelligence has not been widely studied in second language acquisition and studies published to date have been questionnaire-based. In this study we take a qualitative approach to focus on how emotional intelligence is used by two participants, one a learner and the other a pre-service teacher. The two focal participants were selected because they showed the most positive movement toward attaining their possible future L2 selves among a larger sample. Analysis shows the ways in which four branches of emotional intelligence inter-acted as respondents worked with three activities adapted from the literature on positive psychology: savouring, three good things, and learned optimism. This paper shows how both the learner and teacher employed emotional intelligence to understand and integrate their experiences inside and outside the classroom as part of the language learning and teaching process.

The Polish adaptation of the NEO-FFI inventory (see Costa & McCrea, 1989; 1992b; Zawadzki et al. 2007) was used in the present study to assess the personality of dog handlers. For diagnosis of the emotional intelligence, the Polish scale Popular Questionnaire of Emotional Intelligence was used (Jaworowska & Matczak, 2005). There were 601 participants out of the total estimated number of 1408 police dog handlers in Poland. The results were compared with normalization tests for the measures used. The personality profile and emotional intelligence of dog handlers differ significantly from general population. Described in the NEO-FFI terms, police dog handlers are characterized by very low neuroticism, slightly above average extraversion, slightly below average openness to experience, a little above average agreeableness, and very high conscientiousness. In terms of emotional intelligence, they demonstrate higher control and understanding of emotions. It seems that the results obtained in the study may become relevant for the recruitment and training of police officers.

The present research intends to investigate the relationship of psychological hardiness with irrational beliefs, emotional intelligence and work holism among high school teachers. The sample includes 100 male and female high school teachers working in schools in Ghorveh city (In IRAN) in the academic year 2012-2013. To collect data, Kobassa Psychological Hardiness Questionnaire, Jones Irrational Belief Questionnaire which includes 100 questions, Bar-on questionnaire contains 90 questions about emotional intelligence and Aghabeigi Workaholics Questionnaire was used. To analyze the data, descriptive statistics (frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation) and inferential statistics (t-test and regression analysis) were used. The findings indicated that there is a negative and significant relationship between psychological hardiness with irrational beliefs and work holism. There is also a positive relationship between the psychological hardiness and emotional intelligence. Furthermore, there is a significant negative relationship between emotional intelligence with irrational beliefs and work holism. Finally, the results suggest that there is significant difference between the psychological hardiness, irrational beliefs and work holism of the male and female; and no significant difference between the emotional intelligence of the men and women sampled.

The study aimed to replicate our research findings of 2019 by comparing the incidence of emotional disorder symptoms and global trait emotional intelligence (EI) and assessing the closeness of relationships of the observed variables in the context of the new COVID-19 pandemic situation. The data were gathered by self-report tests measuring levels of fears (KSAT), anxiety (STAI), depression (CDI) and trait emotional intelligence (TEIQue-ASF) in Slovak adolescents (N 270) aged 18 to 20 years (AM 18.42; SD 0.59) before (N 138) and during (N 132) the COVID-19 pandemic. Results revealed an increased incidence of emotional disorders (situational anxiety, stage fright, fear, and trait anxiety) and also a decreased level of global trait EI in the pandemic of 2019. Strong negative relationships were identified between global trait EI and trait anxiety (r -0.578; p ≤ .001), as well as medium negative relationships with overall fear (r 0.398; p ≤ .01) and stage fright (r 0.398; p ≤ .01). There were weak or no relationships between global trait EI and the other variables. Thus, higher global trait EI is related to a lower incidence of symptoms of specific emotional disorders. Our findings point to the validity of implementing socio-emotional learning elements into secondary school students' education.

Contemporary psychology in the description of the self is beginning to take into consideration – apart from the self described as a static, un- changing structure – the point of view of phenomenology, the perspective of the subjects through self-description, their narration in the context of functioning in social relations and inner experience. Revealing of self in self-description is determined to a large extent by the surrounding reality. It can be especially significant in young people in the period of adolescence. Their self-esteem is a personality trait for which social relations are re- sponsible to a great extent. Adolescents build their self-esteem on the basis of personal experiences and emotional relationships with their families or friends (the community surrounding them). The appropriate functioning of young people can be ensured by high self-esteem formed by satisfying psychological needs such as acceptance, security, autonomy, belonging as well as the appropriate level of emotional intelligence. Self-esteem formed on negative family and social role models can, on the other hand, lead to the formation of negative identity, and thereby inappropriate peer relationships. The presented research refers to girls who are staying at the Youth Detention Centre and Young Offenders’ Institution in Warsaw Falenica according to the ruling of Family Division and Juvenile Court. The presented research is a pilot study. It charts a new scope of research. It can also be used in the work of tutors, social therapists and social workers taking care of juveniles both during and after their stay at the Young Offenders’ Institution.

Opis:
Like in every human interaction, clashes do occur among health service professional as a result of various forms of conflicts and factors. These clashes do bring about negative consequences on both the patients and the staff members, which inform the evils inherent in this ugly phenomenon. These clashes if continued unabated could lead to further damage; and this is the reason why studies have to be directed at ensuring that the level of clashes between nurses and physician is minimized or eradicated. This study therefore investigated emotional intelligence as therapeutic approach in resolving the nurse-physician clashes in Nigeria hospitals. This study adopted pretest-posttest quasi-experimental design, while a convenient sampling method was used to recruit one hundred and fifty (150) participants consisting of nurses and physicians from Adeoyo State Hospital Ibadan and General Hospital in Oyo Town Oyo State, Nigeria. The participants were grouped into two: experimental and control group. The experimental group received eight-week therapy on emotional intelligence, while control did not. Data was collected using Thomas-Kilmann conflict mode instrument (α = 0.86), while analysis of Covariance was used to analyse the four hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. There was a significant main effect of the treatment on conflict in workplace among nurses and physicians (F2,147 = 8.30; P < 0.05). Also, there was interaction effect of treatment on participants’ gender (F(2,147), P < 0.05); marital status (F(2,147) = P<0.05); and workload (F(2,147) = P < 0.05). The result of interaction shows higher mean for female over male; married over single; and low workload over high workload. Emotional intelligence training was effective in reducing clashes as a result of conflict between nurse and physician. It was recommended that emotional intelligence training should be organized as in-service programme for nurses and physicians.

Emotional intelligence enables people to recognize their own emotions and those of others and to use them in everyday life as valuable information that determines success in social interactions. Inaccurate recognition of emotions or inability to control them can have a significant impact on interpersonal relationships and the ability to cope with difficult life situations. Hearing impairments result in various consequences – both in emotional and social functioning. The article presents the findings of a research study on emotional intelligence and recognition of facial expressions in deaf adolescents. The data were collected with the use of two tools: the self-report INTE Questionnaire and the Emotional Intelligence Scale – Faces (SIE-T). Study participants were 80 secondary school students, including 40 hearing adolescents and 40 deaf adolescents using sign language. A quantitative method, Student’s t-test for independent samples, was used to analyze the significance of the findings. The research study showed that the deaf people had lower scores than the hearing people both in the level of emotional intelligence and in the level of individual skills that constitute its structure, such as: recognizing emotions, using emotions to guide thinking and action, and recognizing facial expressions. Furthermore, deaf adolescents from deaf families where sign language was the main communication means achieved higher scores in the ability to recognize facial expressions as compared to deaf adolescents from hearing families. The study suggests the need for broader emotional education and more intensive support for the development of socioemotional skills in deaf adolescents.

Being a theatre actor requires specifi c abilities, such as the ability to function in situations of social exposure, to feel and express diff erent emotions in a short time, and feel exactly like the character they play. This profession is perceived as unique and prestigious. The aim of this research was to establish the predictors of the sense of quality of life in a group of actors. The study involved 52 professional theatre actors. The results showed a positive correlation between the sense of quality of life and dimensions of emotional intelligence, social competences, and self-esteem. Moreover, the predictor that explains the largest variance in the subjective quality of life in the group of actors is the acceptance of emotions.

Opis:
Given the lowering of trade barriers among nations, the internet revolution, and a resultant increase in the bargaining power of consumers, coupled with the economic impact of COVID-19 pandemic, firms are increasingly forced to make use of a high performing workforce. It is to raise the quality of their products and/or services as global competition for the consumer’s money severely punishes inefficiencies. As a result of this, it has become imperative for organizational researchers to determine the important antecedents of employee task performance. Hence, the purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between the domain-based self-efficacy and employee task performance. Drawing on the Social Cognitive Theory, we propose that there is a relationship between these two variables, and that the relationship is moderated by emotional intelligence, with the view of shedding light on the inconsistent nature of the results from previous studies. Through the descriptive survey research design, the multi-stage sampling technique was applied in eliciting data from a total of 342 employees of the Nigerian banking industry who are employed in the customer services sector. From the simple moderation analysis conducted after utilizing the Process macro, results indicate that there is a positive and significant relationship between domain-based self-efficacy and task performance. However, emotional intelligence moderates this relationship in such a way that the positive relationship between self-efficacy and task performance was weaker among subjects who reported a higher level of emotional intelligence. In the light of these findings, it was recommended for managers particularly in the banking industry to set up intervention strategies that have the potentials of promoting a desirable level of domain-based self-efficacy among their employees while also ensuring that an optimal mix of emotional intelligence both within and across components is promoted with the view of achieving a desirable moderating impact of this relationship.

This study investigates the differences between novice and expert translators. Six expert translators and six translation students were asked to translate a text into Arabic and explain their translation process. The results show a difference in the translation quality, expertise of translation and the way novices and experts think and solve the translation problems. Numerous factors such as memory, emotions, decision making, problem solving, etc. co-determine successful experts. A translator expert is not just someone who has translation skills, it’s also someone who understands how his knowledge is organized; he behaves automatically and fluidly without conscious control.

The aim of this study was to gain more in-depth understanding of students’ emotions in an EFL context by applying dynamic assessment (DA) procedures to the development of learners’ emotional intelligence. The study with 50 intermediate learners aged 12-15 used three modalities: a control group, which was taught under institute’s normal procedures; a comparison group, which received DA; and an experimental group, which received emotionalized dynamic assessment (EDA) procedures, in the form of an intervention focusing on emotional characteristics of Goleman's emotional intelligence framework with the express purpose of inducing them to work with their emotions. The study shows the potential of EDA for increasing one’s emotional intelligence and affords practical guidelines to language teachers as to how to incorporate behaviors relating to emotional intelligence into assessment procedures.

The aim of this study is to examine how students perceive teacher trait emotional intelligence (TEI) and how those perceptions relate to students’ own self-reported attitudes and motivation. Adult students of ESL/EFL were given an online questionnaire consisting of two parts: one to provide observer-reported data on their teacher’s trait emotional intelligence and the second to measure students’ own attitudes and motivation. In total, 129 participants of 28 nationalities took part. The results showed that the perceived teacher TEI domains of teacher sociability and teacher self-control were significant predictors of student positive feelings and attitudes towards the teacher. With this paper, we make the case that observer reports of teacher TEI by students could be a valuable tool in L2 instruction by offering teachers unique insight into their own classroom behavior, thereby increasing teacher self-awareness which could lead to improved classroom practices.

Emotions in humans are subjective conscious experience characterized by psycho-physiological expressions and behavioral reactions. It may act as tool, if positively identified by complementing and enriching job performance but if negatively understood can ruin feelings and be a disaster. Emotions in healthcare organizations are important to be taken care of because in the service exchange process emotions of both the service provider and the receiver are directly involved. Although caring and curing patient by these employees is a professional activity but still, the empathetic and sympathetic behavior shown by these professionals influences their performance and success in hospital industry. Moreover, the behavior shown by these employees in the workplace is often discriminated on the basis of their gender as it influences the performance of health professionals. Based on above backdrop, the objective of the current study is to assess whether there exist difference in emotional intelligence of healthcare employees in hospitals with respect to their gender. A standardized questionnaire was used to conduct the study among 300 employees in hospitals with the help of scale developed by Hyde, Pethe and Dhar (2002). Data was analyzed through SPSS and results indicated that the level of emotional intelligence among females is higher than male employees.

The research focuses on the questions of if nurses working in various health care facilities present different abilities for emotional adaptation to the work environment, if they differ in feeling job related burnout, and what stress coping strategies they tend to employ. The Questionnaire of Emotional Intelligence (INTE), Link Burnout Questionnaire (LBQ), and the Coping Inventory for Stressful Situations (CISS) were administered. The study comprised 104 nurses from various health care facilities located within 7 voivodships (Polish provincial administrative divisions). This included three groups of different types of work: general care, specialized medical care, and units providing care for patients at a high risk of dying. A statistical analysis was performed with IBM SPSS Statistic 24. A regression analysis of the interface between emotional intelligence and stress-coping strategies showed that a high degree of emotional intelligence fostered a strategy of task-avoidance coping, and diminished the tendency to concentrate on emotions during stressful situations, it also minimized the propensity of the individual to reduce stress by distracting themselves with other activities. However, the mediation analysis revealed that the impact of emotional intelligence decreased after the role of occupational burnout was taken into consideration. This finding suggests that it is rather the occupational burnout that limits the possibility to apply effective stress coping strategies and that stress management does not reduce the risk of burnout. The study indicated the significant role of emotional intelligence: as a higher level of this form of intelligence corresponded with a lower feeling of burnout in all its dimensions. The mediation analysis revealed that it is the occurrence of burnout that plays the most significant role in adjustment to the work environment. This finding suggests that the prevention of burnout is the most effective factor enabling productive work, and the maintenance of psychological wellbeing despite the many job stressors which may occur in the workplace. It creates the need to clarify its links with depression in order to concentrate on a really effective treatment.

There is extensive literature addressing the subject of “emotional intelligence” (EI) and its importance to the profile of leaders and models of leadership. Despite what some have argued as the sine qua non of leadership, there are arguably few, if any, valid instruments available to predict demonstration of EI competencies. This paper focuses on EI and challenges to measurement as it relates to leadership development in maritime management —where EI competencies are deemed critical to effective performance. The authors review and evaluate current instruments that claim to measure EI, survey hiring practices in selected companies in the shipping industry, and make recommendations for further research.

Opis:
“Emotional intelligence” is a relatively new term that leads to ambiguous associations connotations. Apart together with from “intelligence quotient” (IQ) emotional intelligence attracts gains more and more interest of the scientific society. According to the recent studies precisely emotional intelligence is the key factor that contributes to about 80% of all success stories, compared to IQ that contributes only to approximately 20%. Success refers here not only to professional matters, but also to everyday interpersonal relations or mental health. Strictly academic deliberation of intelligence concept reveals that ability of handling emotions has bigger influence on human life than language, mathematical or analytical skills, that used to be considered key success factors historically. It has been accepted that not only intellect and ability of handling difficult situations, but also his or her personal and social capacity, way of experiencing the world and determining life goals is responsible for human’s performance. This conclusion led researchers into further investigations that resulted in formulating the idea of emotional intelligence. The aim of this article is to investigate the evolution, understand the genesis and structure of the emotional intelligence concept. Scope of this article includes a chronological analysis of development of this psychological concept, study of competing theories explaining the role and meaning of emotional intelligence and overview of available researches related to emotional intelligence. Emotional intelligence is continuously raising contentions and debates among the scientific society. The debate about emotional intelligence is ongoing and is a specific catalyst of changes in understanding of emotional intelligence concept. This study tries to approach and understand the phenomenon that emotional intelligence has been lately.
„Inteligencja emocjonalna” to nowe pojęcie wywołujące niejasne skojarzenia.

Opis:
This paper explores the intersection of human psychology and advanced technology, focusing on how intelligent and emotive technology influences human behavior and emotional intelligence, and in the process, might impact our ability to show and feel empathy. Based in Alfred Adler's theory of human motivation, we examine how feelings of inferiority - vulnerability, powerlessness, perfectibility, and the need for afiliation - drive our increasing dependence on technology. The human tendency to treat inanimate objects as animate is heightened by the sophisticated communication capabilities of Generative AI (Gen AI), altering our interpersonal dynamics and communication signals. We analyze how this shift impacts empathy, self-centeredness, and impatience, suggesting a need for conscious awareness of technology's limitations to preserve genuine human connections. By conducting a “technology dependency audit,” we encourage individuals to reflect on the extent to which their lives are mediated by technology. Ultimately, the paper argues for reclaiming our emotional and practical autonomy from technology to maintain authentic human relationships and emotional well-being.

Research background: The research examines the impact of emotional intelligence and ethics on knowledge sharing within organizations. It examines the impact of emotional intelligence (EQ) on the ethical behavior of the individual. The focus is on the individuals working in the SME sector. A questionnaire survey was considered the most appropriate technique to conduct the research. The study is based on 1162 responses, collected from three countries (the Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia). Purpose of the article: The aim of this article is to examine the relationship between knowledge sharing, ethics and emotional intelligence. Furthermore, nationality, gender, education, and the age of the respondents influencing EQ are also examined. The additional goal is to explore the factors that influence employee behavior. Methods: We identified four hypotheses. To test these hypotheses, we used variance analysis and logistic regression. The AES scale was chosen to assess EQ, which consisted of 33 items. The results obtained are compared with the opinion of SME owners resulting from structured interviews. Findings & value added: About 20% of enterprises are not using any motivation tool to initiate knowledge sharing of their employees. The most common (47.2%) reason for silencing knowledge - the lack of appreciation - did not appear among the answer of company owners. According to the employee perceptions, gender has impact on the level of emotional intelligence, while nationality, education and age group have no impact on the EQ. SME owners do not address much attention to gender. The occurrence of unethical behavior does not depend on the size of the enterprise. According to employee opinion, the EQ has positive impact on knowledge sharing, while it is not affected by ethics. The majority of owners also agreed with the positive impact of EQ. The attitude of employees and owners differ in different aspects. The results have shown that gender plays an influential role in EQ. The research of this complex problem laid down the empirical foundations for the V4 countries.

Opis:
Introduction. Medical care in geriatrics has its own specificity, and in order to build a successful doctor-patient relationship it is important while studying medicine to learn some functioning aspects of this age group. Objective. The aim of this study is to explore and describe the role of emotional intelligence in the attitudes of medical students towards elderly patients, taking into account their the place of residence. The place of residence has an impact on social relations and socialization, which could effect with disparities in behaviour towards elderly patients. Materials and method. Medical University of Lublin students from rural (N=71; M=23.44 SD=1.80) and urban (N=87; M=23.34; SD=1.38) areas took part in the study. Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire (INTE) and Attitude Towards Elderly Patients Questionnaire (ATEP) were used. Results. There are statistically significant differences between medical students from rural and urban areas in their attitude towards elderly patients (p=0.001), but no differences were observed between rural and urban residents in terms of emotional intelligence (general result, action factor and cognitive factor). Positive correlations were observed between action factor (r=0.322), cognitive factor (r=0.311) and general INTE result (r=0.358) and attitude towards elderly patients in the group of medical students from rural area. Conclusions. Medical students from rural areas are characterized by a more positive attitude towards elderly patients than medical students from urban areas. The predictors of attitudes towards elderly patients are the cognitive factor of emotional intelligence and the place of residence of medical students. The results give the opportunity to design a well-developed programme of a geriatric course which could be matched to the personal predispositions of students.

The article elaborates on the construct of emotional intelligence, wherein it focuses on both—explaining the causes of the enormous popularity of this concept and outlining the major issues and concerns associated with it. Presenting the basic assumptions of the ability model by Salovey and Mayer and the most popular mixed models (Goleman’s and Bar-On’s) has pointed out the huge differences in the adopted definitions and a proposed structure of emotional intelligence. The advantages and short comings of these models were described too. The article has also highlighted the problems associated with the measurement of emotional intelligence, as well as insufficient knowledge of its circumstances and dynamics of development. The reflection on the functional importance of emotional intelligence is a significant part of the article, which also attempted to confront popularizers’ claims with available empirical data.

This study’s aim is to investigate the relationship between emotional intelligence (EI) and social media addiction (SMA) in Communication undergraduate students in Turkey. In addition to EI, the impact of demographic variables and social media use habits on SMA were investigated. For the study, quantitative method was chosen, and an online questionnaire was conducted on 317 Communication undergraduate students in Turkey with 301 participants being the final sample from different cities in Turkey. As a result of the study, analyses indicated that EI and SMA were related at medium and low levels. The EI partly predicted SMA. It was determined with Path analysis that intrapersonal skills, dealing with stress and adaptability could be statistically significant predictors of SMA sub-dimensions virtual tolerance and virtual communication at a negative level, and time spent on social media, number of posts on social media could have a significant impact on students’ SMA at a positive level. This research differs from other research conducted in Turkey in terms of SMA being examined with the focus of EI.

Opis:
Introduction: The implementation of educational tasks by teachers occurs in the context of emotional relationships with students, their parents, the school administration, and other teachers. Neuroticism and emotional intelligence are particularly important given that this is one of the most emotionally exhausting professions. Research Aim: The aim of the study was to explore whether neuroticism is a predictor of teachers’ emotional intelligence and whether there is variation in these given seniority and the type of subject taught. Method: The following questionnaires were applied: Eysenck Personality Questionnaire EPQ-R(S); scale the Neuroticism in the NEO-PI-R personality questionnaire; Popular Questionnaire of Emotional Intelligence PKIE. Results: A predictor of high emotional intelligence is low neuroticism (of the Big Three-PEN Eysenck). Low neuroticism among teachers is associated with high emotional intelligence. Teachers with seniority of more than 20 years have significantly lower neuroticism (of the Big Five) including depressive sub-trait and higher emotional intelligence including control over their own emotions. Conclusions: Increasingly proficient emotion management can be predicted with years of service provided, but when the teacher is low in neuroticism. These findings may be important for the diagnosis and professional counseling of teachers and inspire continuous psycho-educational interventions to improve their emotional intelligence.
Niskie nasilenie neurotyzmu i neurotyczności (z Wielkiej Piątki) nauczycieli występuje z wysokim nasileniem inteligencji emocjonalnej.

Purpose: To explore the differences between top and middle managers’ selection profiles. To that end, we assessed three important criteria: analytical intelligence, emotional intelligence, and personality. Methodology: The study compared two groups of managers (N=383): top managers (N=98) and middle managers (N=285). To measure the three factors, we used reliable, validated tools. Using discriminant analysis, we defined the strongest differentiating factors of the two groups. Results: Significant differences were obtained in the areas of the three factors, i.e. in general mental ability, some aspects of the personality dimension, and some facets of emotional intelligence. Discriminant analysis showed that facets of emotional intelligence most strongly differentiate the two groups. Implications: We describe and explain the typical profiles of top and middle managers with the three factors. Originality/value: These results are useful in the selection and development process of the organization.

Self-aggressive behaviours among adolescents are an increasing problem for psychiatric treatment. The presented research addresses the issue of emotional intelligence as an underlying cause of self-injury. A Two-Scale Inventory of Emotional Intelligence (DINEMO) and Self-Injury Rating Questionnaire were applied to the group of 70 adolescent patients (age range 14-18) hospitalized in the Central Clinical Hospital in Lodz, with the history of at least 1 self-injury incident since hospital admission. The analysis demonstrates that patients with more than 4 self-injury incidents have on average a higher level of emotional intelligence, in comparison to patients with sporadic self-mutilation incidents. This dependency was more pronounced for females than males. The authors conclude that self-injury interventions in adolescent patients should be focused on enhancing the emotional competencies rather than symptomatic treatment.

Opis:
The replication study offers research findings from verification of the construct validity of social intelligence by the Slovak MESI scale (Manipulation, Empathy, Social Irritability - MESI, Frankovský, Birknerová, 2014) by means of confirmatory factor analysis, and by convergent/discriminant validity by the trait emotional intelligence questionnaire (Petrides, 2009) in two samples (secondary school students: N = 134, Mage = 17.7 years old /SD = 0.47/, 66% women; university students: N = 138, Mage = 21.52 years old /SD = 1.81/, 77% women). Results of confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) confirm the three-factor solution of the MESI scale (extracted factors of Manipulation, Empathy, Social Irritability) in accordance with the authors’ original solution in both samples. Trait emotional intelligence (EI) and its four factors enter into significant positive relationships with Empathy (convergent validity) and negative relationships with Social Irritability (discriminant validity). The global level of trait EI can be predicted by the factor of Empathy and Social Irritability in both research samples. Our findings confirm substantiation of the MESI scale for assessment of social intelligence, and its possible application in targeted educational interventions in a school environment.

Opis:
The assessment of the level of professional capacities in the psychological students is the subject of the paper. The theoretical basis was model of professional capacities by J. Holland. According to it, certain capacities may determine one’s success in the field of professional activity, in that case – in psychological work with the clinical patient/client. The aims of research were: 1) estimation of the level of scientific and social capacities in students and comparison of this level between stationary and nonstationary ones; 2) identifying psychological factors determining the level of certain capacities. The test of professional capacities by J. Holland, Inventory of Emotional Intelligence (INTE) and Five Factor Personality Inventory NEO-FFI were used. 133 students of stationary and nonstationary psychological study at the University of Łódź were investigated. The results show, among others, the higher than average level of the scientific and social capacities in the students of both group and considerably important role of emotional intelligence in the formation of the professional capacities of expected psychologists.

Opis:
Objectives: The present study examined the relationship between medical student fatigue with psychological variables: emotional intelligence (EI), sense of coherence (SoC) (comprehensibility, manageability, and meaningfulness), quality of life (QoL), stress, and satisfaction with studying medicine. Material and Methods: The sample consisted of 566 medical students from the Medical University of Gdańsk, Poland. The instruments used were the Chalder Fatigue Scale, Schutte Self Report Emotional Intelligence Test, Sense of Coherence Questionnaire, and a questionnaire designed by the authors, comprised questions relating to the quality of life, stress levels, and satisfaction with studying medicine. Results: The results show that fatigue was negatively related to the ability to use emotions effectively in the management of one’s activities (EI), 1 aspect of SoC – a level of comprehensibility, QoL, and satisfaction with studying medicine. Fatigue is positively related to the ability to recognize, understand, and control emotions (EI) and stress connected with studying medicine. Conclusions: The outcomes of the study afford a better understanding of the relationship between selected variables in the field of individual differences in the context of fatigue in the medical student population. It may help medical educators and authorities to have a better understanding of the phenomenon of building resilience and increasing abilities to cope with the negative effects of chronic stress such as fatigue in the population of medical students. Early recognition of specific psychological features in medical students, such as misunderstanding emotions and their perception of environments as unstructured, would make it possible to prepare early support and development programmes.

Opis:
After reviewing the study conducted by Marszałek et al. [1], which focuses on physical activity as a supportive form for emotional intelligence in the treatment of depressive disorders, we believe that this work addresses a topic of significant importance to both physicians and patients – the utility of physical activity in preventing and treating depression. Depression is a leading mental illness, causing disability worldwide. From 1990 to 2017, the global incidence of depression increased by almost 50% [2]. Limited social awareness causes delayed reporting of patients to specialists and delayed treatment. Depression often leads to suicidal acts among the affected individuals, with suicides being one of the main causes of death among young people. The primary methods of treating this condition include antidepressant medication and psychotherapy alone or in combination. Due to the constant rise in incidences, it is necessary to explore new treatment possibilities and prevent the development of depression [3].
