Opis:
Human ecology is a science of mutual relations between human population and natural habitat. It uses complex approach to research many aspects of human life, especially human dynamic relations with the closest environment: family, home, nature and local community, and creating healthy environment for everyday life. There is a new challenge for pedagogy, i.e. forming human ecological awareness defined as knowledge of environment. There is also an issue of competencies and active practices for environmental protection. Ecological pedagogy, in its assumptions, does not support the idea of anthropocentrism conceived as human being’s dominance over nature; its idea is education for coexistence and human protection of nature in order to maintain it for next generations and achieve sustainable development. The aim of this article is to draw attention to the level of ecological awareness of the society, including teachers, as well as specific features of education for sustainable development as social practices.
Wzajemne oddziaływanie organizmów na siebie i środowisko przyrodnicze jest domeną badań ekologii. Dbałość o środowisko jest obowiązkiem każdego człowieka, tak jak troska o zdrowie, dom, własną rodzinę i innych ludzi. W życiu społecznym jednak nie zawsze tak się dzieje, a przyczyny tego są bardzo różnorodne. Przed pedagogiką stoi poważne wyzwanie prowadzenia badań świadomości ekologicznej obywateli oraz edukacja na rzecz zrównoważonego rozwoju (ZR). Zagadnienie to znalazło miejsce w Konstytucji RP, w aktach prawnych oraz w europejskich strategiach ZR. Artykuł przedstawia historię procesu ZR oraz analizę badań świadomości ekologicznej nauczycieli przeprowadzonych przed i po zakończeniu Dekady Edukacji dla ZR ogłoszonej przez ONZ na lata 2005–2014. Wyniki badań wskazują na potrzebę prowadzenia permanentnej edukacji na rzecz ZR nie tylko wśród nauczycieli, ale i całego społeczeństwa. Autorka artykułu jest biologiem i pedagogiem, od wielu lat zajmuje się prowadzeniem edukacji ekologicznej nauczycieli i studentów.

The problem discussed in the article has become an inherent part of the contemporary tendency of growing interest in environmental issues, permeating from the natural sciences to the humanities and social sciences. The author, as a humanist by training, combined the concept of the human environ- ment, and thus the natural issue, with the humanistic and social problems in the article (i.e., he did so in the interdisciplinary dimension). Such a vision (a specific philosophy) of combining these mul- tidisciplinary issues has also led the author to outline his concept of environmental security, closely related to the idea of the human environment discussed earlier.

Understanding the phenomenon of environmental education and implementation of its principles in the cultural life of our contemporary is an urgent problem of today. The integrity of the natural environment for human existence, and the acquisition of skills necessary for an individual in the contemporary society depend on the level of environmental upbringing and environmental education of people, and the younger generation, in particular. Environmental knowledge is regarded as a prerequisite for the development of environmental consciousness, and their successful acquisition forms environmental outlook.

Ecological agriculture, understood as agricultural production compliant with natural environment rules, in Poland is the subject of EU regulations and Polish legislation applied to incorporate provisions of the Common Agricultural Policy of EU. The ecological production method fulfills a double social role: on the one hand, it supplies goods to the specific market of ecological products; on the other hand, it is an activity conducted in public interest, as it facilitates environmental protection and development of rural areas. Depending on the social function of ecological agriculture that a given legal regulation focuses on, ecological agriculture regulations are divided into two groups. One may raise objections that the economic phenomena regulation is to detailed. Thus, in order to ensure its improvement, it is advisable to introduce the notion of an “ecological farm”.

Environmental issues constitute more and more eagerly undertaken scientific issues. It is probably due to the contemporary situation, in which the threats to the environment inhabited by people are increasing. Importantly, the problems of this type are not only examined within the framework of environmental or ecological sciences but also the social sciences and humanities. There is nothing strange about it; after all, the society in which a person lives is a crucial element of the human environment. Every person’s life takes place in a particular environment, the state of which affects people, their psychophysical health and well-being, the fulfillment of life necessities, behavior, and functioning in society. Such issues are discussed within the framework of environmental social psychology and environmental sociology. This article is devoted precisely to these disciplines. The publication briefly presents the essence of these environmental social sciences (starting from the characteristics of environmental social psychology, and then moving to environmental sociology). However, their essence was shown from the perspective of a specific, concise philosophy (vision) of perceiving the human environment that can be found in these social sciences. The human environment can be understood in various ways, not necessarily coinciding with what is considered the environment in natural sciences. This vision of perception of the human environment in the publication is a useful criterion for the interpretation and division of these disciplines into two basic variants – traditional (typical humanistic and social, currently applicable) and postulated model (socio-natural). It is also able to guarantee sustainable environmental (ecological and health) security.
Zagadnienia środowiskowe to coraz chętniej podejmowana obecnie problematyka naukowa. Wynika to zapewne ze współczesnej sytuacji, w których zagrożenia dla zamieszkiwanego przez ludzi środowiska są coraz większe. I co ważne tego typu problemy badane są nie tylko w ramach nauk środowiskowych czy ekologicznych, ale również w obrębie nauk społecznych i humanistycznych. I nie ma w tym nic dziwnego, przecież społeczeństwo, w którym żyje człowiek, to ważny element ludzkiego środowiska. Życie każdego człowieka przebiega bowiem w pewnym środowisku, którego stan oddziałuje w odpowiedni sposób na ludzi, ich zdrowie psychofizyczne i samopoczucie, realizację potrzeb życiowych, czy zachowanie i funkcjonowanie w społeczeństwie. Tego typu zagadnienia podejmowane są w ramach społecznej psychologii środowiskowej i socjologii środowiskowej. Właśnie tym dyscyplinom poświęcono niniejszy artykuł. W publikacji przybliżono zwięźle istotę tych środowiskowych nauk społecznych (poczynając od charakterystyki społecznej psychologii środowiskowej, a następnie przechodząc do socjologii środowiskowej). Natomiast ich istotę ukazano z perspektywy pewnej zwięzłej filozofii (wizji) postrzegania ludzkiego środowiska, jaką można odnaleźć w tych naukach społecznych. Środowisko człowieka bowiem może być różnie rozumiane, niekoniecznie zbieżne z tym co za środowisko uznaje się w naukach przyrodniczych. Owa wizja postrzegania środowiska człowieka stanowi w publikacji użyteczne kryterium interpretacji i podziału tych dyscyplin na dwie podstawowe odmiany – tradycyjną (typowo humanistyczno-społeczną, obecnie obowiązującą) oraz na model postulowany (społeczno-przyrodniczy). Jest on w stanie zagwarantować również zrównoważone bezpieczeństwo środowiskowe (ekologiczne i zdrowotne).

The problem of the concept of ecological and environmental economics and the relationship between them is the vital research problem in modern economics. Conclusion 1: The problem of understanding ecological and environmental economics is just one of the many important issues that can be found in the works of Professor Tomasz Żylicz. In this study, the existence of long-term trends in ecological footprint (EF), biocapacity, GDP, population and CO2 emissions for the period of 1961–2016, and their effect on the demographic, economic and biocapacity indicators on Ecuador’s EF were identified. The long-term trend analysis was performed by means of a Mann-Kendall, nonparametric test. The development of a multiple linear regression model of the EF considers the population, GDP, biocapacity and its logarithmic transformations as returners. A backward removal method was used, in conjunction with the Akaike criterion (AIC) to validate the most suitable model in terms of adjusted-R2, NSE, BIAS and RMSE, respectively. The results show significant changes (p<0.01) of the annual EF increase (0.015 hag), total population (216.375 inhabitants), GDP ($1.2 billion) and CO2 emissions (718.6 kt). However, the biocapacity has been declining (0.086 hag) at a faster rate than the ecological footprint. In other words, in a few years, the country will be facing ecological deficits. As for the empirical model of EF, it can be observed that for every increase of inhabitant’s units, the natural logarithm of biocapacity and GDP will increase EF by 1.68x10-7, 4.84 and 0.905 gha, respectively. Moreover, EF will be decreased by 0.6 gha each time the biocapacity increases by one gha unit. Finally, this robust and easy-to-interpret model allows accurate EF predictions that can be a tool to better forecast the environmental trends, allowing the development of sustainable projects in Ecuador.

The problem of natural resources being finite as well as the capability of ecosystems and the biosphere to assimilate the effects of economic activity on the one hand, and growing economic discrepancies on the other raise a question mark over the chase after the unrestrained economic growth. In the search for alternative models of thinking and development a significant role of constraint is being more and more emphasized. In the case of ecological barriers limitation of using non-renewable resources, greenhouse gases emissions, excessive consumption and production seems to be a reasonable strategy that manifests our care for the natural environment. The aim of the paper is to demonstrate that the postulate of constraint present in the de-growth model in the form proposed by Tim Jackson and Serge Latouche apart from a quantitative dimension has, above all, a qualitative and ethically orientated dimension. Constraint conceived in the above way stays close to terms like moderation, restraint, sustainability, i.e. such terms that possess solid ethical foundations and constitute an important base for environmental ethics.

The article is devoted to the development of methodical approaches to the management of environmental risks due to pesticide contamination of agrocenoses. An assessment of ecological risks due to the use of pesticides was carried out at the scientific research field of the Skvirskaya research station of organic production of the IAP of the National Academy of Sciences during the growing seasons of 2019–2021. The methods of assessing the ecological risks of potential pesticide contamination of agrocenoses based on the indicators of the agroecotoxicological index (AETI) and the ecotoxic impact of harmful substances (E) were used on the natural environment. It was shown that the level of environmental risk due to the use of pesticides in the research field of the station according to the weighted average indices (AETI) is characterized as low – risk, and the environmental risk due to the pesticides using is minimal. According to indicators of ecotoxicity (E), the pesticides that were used are characterized as having a low potential ecotoxic risk of impact on agrocenoses of cultivated plants. However, the total pesticide ecotoxicological load (ΣЕ = 0.425 compared to the standard EDDT = 1) indicates the possibility of disruption of ecological connectivities in the agroecosystem. One of the elements of environmental risk management can be the assessment of the pesticide load on agroecosystems and considering of the territory ability to self-clean. In order to minimize the environmental risks of pesticide contamination of agrocenoses, measures should be taken to regulate the use of chemical plant protection agents. This can be done by banning or limiting the use of pesticides that have a high level of ecotoxicity and are persistent in the soil. This will contribute to increasing the ecological safety of agro-ecosystems and the natural environment.

Today, the more and more intensive use of natural resources and consequent environmental degradation have made the issue of sustainable development a central place in many discussions going on in scientific circles. In this light, ecological awareness, as well as pro-ecological attitudes and behaviors of people seem to be only too significant. The aim of this article is to present the results of research conducted among the inhabitants of the Municipality of Zawadzkie, Opole Voivodeship. The study examined the relation between the level of environmental awareness and manifestations of environmental attitudes and behaviors. The obtained results were also subjected to a comparative analysis of two groups of respondents: inhabitants of towns and villages. The study did not show any significant differences between residents of towns and villages in terms of their ecological awareness and environmental attitudes and behaviors. It can therefore be concluded that changes in the sphere of awareness and specific environmental actions that are being taken in the surveyed community are not related to the place of residence. Residents of towns and villages have a similar access to knowledge and cultural changes concern both groups. It is worth pointing out that awareness as such and knowledge of the environment does not guarantee developing proper attitudes and pro-ecological behaviors, and changes in the area of specific environmental activities are of a long-term nature and do not occur overnight. Research has also shown that although knowledge about ecology is not always reflected in everyday attitudes and behaviors of the respondents, changes in environmental direction can be observed in both urban and rural areas.

The authors explored the utilization of simulation models as a means to ensure environmental safety, using the industrial hub of Kemerovo as an illustrative example. The article analyzes the factors that have contributed to the deterioration of the environment in the region for decades. It has been established that in terms of the overall percentage distribution of emissions from stationary sources, energy enterprises (73.0%), chemical and petrochemical industries (4.7%), and black metallurgy enterprises (7.8%) are leading in the city of Kemerovo. Simulation modelling has shown that the cause of high concentrations of harmful substances in the atmosphere of Kemerovo is due to the negative factors of industrial and household activities and their impact on environmental safety. High correlation and sensitivity coefficients indicate a lack of new available technologies in the region's industry and transport that could prevent air pollution. The forecasting model has indicated a potential two, three or even greater increase in emissions. For example, in the long-term perspective, by 2063, manufacturing emissions could potentially increase by 35 times, leading to irreversible ecological consequences. Extreme pollution and depletion of natural resources could make living in this region impossible.

Zapraszają nauczycieli uczących przyrodę, biologię, ekologię i ochronę środowiska na Seminaria, Sympozja, Konferencje, które realizują tematykę związaną z edukacją ekologiczno-środowiskową.
The role of environmental teaching specialists in realizing ecological and environmental education is significant and varied. Above all, it comes down to the help offered to teachers in running and realizing the subjects related to ecological and environmental education. It concerns the teachers who teach environmental education, biology, ecology and environment conservation. The role of teaching specialists is writing syllabuses to be realized in the classrooms (at schools) or during field trips in direct contact with nature. Running post-graduate university courses in the subject they include the issues of ecology and environmental protection. They invite teachers of nature, biology, ecology and environment protection to Seminars, Symposiums, Conferences that deal with the subject of ecology and environment teaching.

W dobie postępujących zmian klimatycznych wdrażanie postaw proekologicznych na każdej płaszczyźnie życia wydaje się być konieczne. Kwestia ta dotyczy także turystyki – szczególnie wobec rosnącego problemu tzw. overtourism. Niniejszy artykuł przedstawia wyniki badań przeprowadzonych na grupie poznańskich hoteli reprezentujących kategorię od 3 do 5 gwiazdek. Założono bowiem, że rozwiązania proekologiczne będą obecne w tej grupie obiektów i że będą one eksponowane w działaniach informacyjnych oraz promocyjnych hoteli. Do badań zastosowano metodę tajemniczego klienta, a konkretnie e-mailingu, polegającego na wysłaniu zapytania ofertowego do wybranych obiektów. Analizie poddano zakres udzielonych odpowiedzi, jak również opinie gości zamieszczane na portalach rezerwacyjnych. Celem opracowania było znalezienie odpowiedzi na następujące pytania: Jaki odsetek poznańskich hoteli najwyższej kategorii (od 3 do 5 gwiazdek) prowadzi działania na rzecz ochrony środowiska? Czy istnieją różnice w podejściu do badanego problemu między obiektami sieciowymi a niezależnymi? Czy i w jakim zakresie hotele wykorzystują działania proekologiczne w działaniach promujących obiekt? Czy goście analizowanych hoteli zwracają uwagę na aktywność prośrodowiskową? W świetle przeprowadzonych analiz można stwierdzić, iż poznańskie hotele należące do grupy reprezentującej obiekty od 3 do 5 gwiazdek realizują działania proekologiczne o bardzo podobnym zakresie (racjonalne gospodarowanie wodą, energią i segregacja odpadów), co wynika z konieczności przestrzegania przepisów prawa i wymogów kategoryzacyjnych. Aktywność na tej płaszczyźnie prezentują powszechnie (np. za pomocą witryn internetowych) hotele sieciowe, natomiast wśród obiektów niezależnych taką aktywność wykazał tylko jeden hotel. Badania ukazały także różnice w podejściu hotelarzy do działań przyjaznych środowisku (co stwierdzono na podstawie przekazanych informacji), co może świadczyć o zróżnicowanym poziomie wiedzy ekologicznej posiadanej przez pracowników. Uzyskane spostrzeżenia utwierdzają w przekonaniu, iż podnoszenie świadomości ekologicznej to proces złożony i długotrwały.
In the era of progressing climate change, it seems necessary to implement pro-ecological attitudes at every level of life. This issue also applies to tourism ̶ especially in view of the growing problem of the so-called overtourism. This article presents the results of research conducted on a group of Poznań hotels representing the category of 3 to 5 stars. The mystery shopper method was used, specifically e-mailing, consisting of sending an inquiry to selected objects. The scope of answers provided was analyzed, as well as guest reviews published on booking portals. The purpose of the study was to find answers to the following questions: What percentage of Poznań’s highest category hotels (from 3 to 5 stars) carry out activities for environmental protection? Are there any differences in the approach to the problem under investigation between network and independent objects? Do and to what extent hotels use environmentally-friendly actions in activities promoting the facility? Do the guests of the analyzed hotels pay attention to pro-environmental activity? In the light of the conducted analyzes, it can be stated that Poznań hotels belonging to the group representing objects from 3 to 5 stars carry out pro-ecological activities with a very similar scope (rational water, energy and waste segregation), which results from the need to comply with legal regulations and categorization requirements. Activity in this area is commonly presented (e.g. by means of websites) by network hotels, while among independent facilities only one hotel has demonstrated such activity. The research also showed differences in the hoteliers’ approach to environmentally friendly activities (which was confirmed on the basis of the information provided), which may indicate a diverse level of ecological knowledge possessed by employees. Observations confirm the belief that raising environmental awareness is a complex and long-term process.

The 20th century is still a time of intensive promoting the sustainable development concepts, the assumptions of environmental ethics and curricula for ecological education in Poland. The already observed problem of natural resources and their initial shortage combined with the ongoing increase of human life's needs not only inclines us to reflections, but also extorts us to undertake radical actions. Human being with his rationality and freedom places himself and his personal good above any other existence, which makes him believe he is the moderator or even the nature's ruler. Human activity, his strive for quick implementation of ideas and pursuing material comfort - by developing new technologies - diminishes natural resources, interferes in the environment, as well as threatens the existence of many species. Nature - the giver - tries to resist peoples' irresponsible actions, while the taker - human being - without any awareness of the consequences, significantly overuses the environmental components. The result of the conflict is the environmental crisis manifesting itself in mutually excluding both parties' interests. The extremely anthropocentric point of view presumes unidirectional relations between human being and nature. A breakthrough, realized by alteration of the human value - system that would include unanimous relations with nature, is inevitable in order to prevent the irreversible changes.

The article aims to analyze the concept of eco-innovations emphasizing the motivations for implementing them, and effects of the eco-innovation process. The author presents the principal definitions of eco-innovations. Various motivations triggering eco-innovations are presented with a focus on regulatory and market factors. Entrepreneurs should be encouraged to adopt eco-innovations because they contribute to sustainable development which is the only way for a world that is challenged by global population growth, climate change, declining non-renewable resource stock, water shortages, and environmental degradation. The effects of eco-innovations can be both positive and negative. The main aim of eco-innovations is to decrease the environmental burdens of entrepreneurial activity. However, a new attitude towards eco-innovations emphasizes the role of economic returns and supplies security. The types of effects of environmentally friendly innovations discussed in the paper include environmental, technological, economic, social, cultural and managerial.
W pierwszej części pracy przedstawiono pojęcie ekoinnowacji. Analiza problemu dotyczyła głównie przesłanek i skutków wdrażania innowacji przyjaznych środowisku. Główne determinanty wdrażania innowacji ekologicznych w przedsiębiorstwach to regulacje formalno-prawne oraz czynniki o charakterze rynkowym. Warto zachęcać przedsiębiorców do innowacji ekologicznych, gdyż wpisują się one w zasady rozwoju zrównoważonego, który jest jedynym wyjściem w obecnym świecie, w którym szybko wzrasta liczba ludności, nieodwracalnie zmienia się klimat, kurczą się nieodnawialne zasoby, brakuje wody, a środowisko naturalne jest coraz bardziej zdegradowane. Skutki wdrażania ekoinnowacji mogą być zarówno pozytywne, jak i negatywne. Celem innowacji ekologicznych jest przede wszystkim zmniejszenie negatywnych skutków działalności gospodarczej na środowisko naturalne, choć zgodnie z nowym podejściem, cele ekologiczne mają współgrać z celami ekonomicznymi. Inne konsekwencje wdrażania ekoinnowacji, to m.in.: zmniejszenie lub zwiększenie kosztów produkcji, zmiany wewnątrz organizacji o charakterze kulturowym, społecznym, organizacyjnym, pobudzenie kolejnych innowacji, wzrost konkurencyjności przedsiębiorstw, wejście na nowe rynki, wzrost sprzedaży i poprawa jakości życia konsumentów.

Consumer approach of people caused that the high use of many natural resources exceeded the possibilities of reconstruction of our planet. These resources are first used in manufacturing companies to produce goods and services, which will later be sold to customers to meet their requirements. That is why the ecological education of people in this regard is so important. The purpose of this article was to define the ecological footprint and to show the size of this index in the world and Europe. Examples of actions that every company can make in its operation, to influence the improvement of this index, were also presented.

The human-centric nature of environmental thinking is a highly successful adaptation, which has biological, historical, cultural origins. The dichotomy of anthropocentrism and ecocentrism are what ultimately determine ecological attitudes. This nationally representative study presents how students in Hungarian environmental education bachelor programs view the human’s taxonomic position in the world (hierarchies, kinship), throughout evolution (determining possible directions, distancing from other organisms), the role of human power, and our rights of intervention in the environment. It shows what kind of knowledge students arrive with from public education, how they think about handling confl icts, and what impact their acquired knowledge during university years has on their environmental attitudes. It was found that at least two-thirds of students evaluated natural environmental processes, problemsand their consequences with anthropocentric preferences – in contrast to scientifi cally accepted theses.
