Opis:
The aim of the article is the analysis of controlling in relation to the management of a contemporary enterprise. Against this background, the essence and concept of controlling, its classification and importance for the development of the company were presented. The scope of controlling applications in enterprises' operations depends mainly on the needs of management staff and their managerial awareness. The fact that the views concerning him are not unambiguous, they do not have a universal form, equally understood terms and tasks, strictly defined and assigned actions or methods, is of great significance. The area with which controlling is related applies to all areas of the company's operations. Support for business management takes place in the area of the entire organization. Controlling with its instruments reaches everywhere, coordinates management in all company's cells. Presented premises in the scope of organization of controlling in enterprises, allow to state that the smaller enterprise, the more often controlling appears as a linear cell or a group of cells located in the linear hierarchy. In addition, they indicate that the time of implementation of controlling in the case of large enterprises (in this case also state-owned) is longer than in enterprises from the SME sector (most often private), which is mainly related to the reluctant attitude to changes of employees and management of these organizations, and their internal adjustments.

Opis:
The main focus of this research was to apply Metabolic Control Analysis to quantitative investigation of the regulation of respiration by components of the Mitochondrial Interactosome (MI, a supercomplex consisting of ATP Synthasome, mitochondrial creatine kinase (MtCK), voltage dependent anion channel (VDAC), and tubulin) in permeabilized cardiomyocytes. Flux control coefficients (FCC) were measured using two protocols: 1) with direct ADP activation, and 2) with MtCK activation by creatine (Cr) in the presence of ATP and pyruvate kinase-phosphoenolpyruvate system. The results show that the metabolic control is much stronger in the latter case: the sum of the measured FCC is 2.7 versus 0.74 (ADP activation). This is consistent with previous data showing recycling of ADP and ATP inside the MI due to the functional coupling between MtCK and ANT and limited permeability of VDAC for these compounds, PCr being the major energy carrier between the mitochondria and ATPases. In physiological conditions, when the MI is activated, the key sites of regulation of respiration in mitochondria are MtCK (FCC = 0.93), adenine nucleotide translocase ANT (FCC = 0.95) and CoQ cytochrome c oxidoreductase (FCC = 0.4). These results show clearly that under the physiological conditions the energy transfer from mitochondria to the cytoplasm is regulated by the MI supercomplex and is very sensitive to metabolic signals.

Opis:
Traditional statistical process control approaches are less effective in dealing with multivariate and autocorrelated processes. With the continual increase in process complexity, this inefficiency is becoming more apparent. A special type of multivariate and autocorrelated process is a process occurring within a heterogeneous production environment (a variety of types of machines, pots, etc. used for the same task). This makes the quality control of such processes more difficult. The approach presented in the paper utilizes time series fitting, cluster analysis and association mining in relation to a single data mining model for the analysis of complex multivariate autocorrelated processes. The aim is to divide the production cells (machines, pots, etc.) into groups exhibiting similar behaviors. This can then be used for more effective quality control of the entire process and afterwards to analyze the reasons for this behavior. This paper includes someof the results obtained from applying the model to an actual multivariate high autocorrelated process, the production of primary aluminum using the Hall-Heroult electrolysis process. The Hall-Heroult electrolysis process is a continual process that is ongoing in several pots simultaneously. The average plant operates 300 pots. Therefore, the quality control of such a complex process faces many issues concerning monitoring and problem diagnosis. The paper describes a method for dividing the pots into control groups exhibiting similar behaviors, which can then be used in the planning phase of the quality control analysis and to make improvements within these groups and thereby within the whole process.

In this work a search operation support system is presented, which is an additional autopilot function block. Its task is to lead a vessel included in the search by the SAR services to the datum position on the basis of the data entered by the operator into the system and then automatically to search the indicated area according to the newly defined search pattern. The set goal can be achieved thanks to the autopilot that guides the ship along a given trajectory consisting of straight lines and arcs. High control accuracy is provided by the IMC control system using a relatively simple non-linear ship model. The simulation tests of the tanker model confirmed that the indicated search area can be precisely checked in a shorter time than when using the expanding square search pattern.

This paper describes a methodology for inventory analysis and reduction, which was developed at the Department of Industrial Engineering, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University of Zilina. The methodology describes the optimal procedure for the application of basic analytical methods and tools in practice. The results of the analysis are in the algorithm linked to the subsequent actions realized to improve inventory management system and to minimize inventory level in the company. Described procedure is the result of methodology examination and verification in practical conditions of production enterprises. In the following sections of this paper, there are presented a comprehensive approach to the inventory analysis and the own algorithm, which contains 3 phases: inventory analysis on enterprise level, summary analysis of individual item groups and individual analysis of material items. In the last section, there are described examples of results from such analysis and conclusions. The presented approach is an attempt to create a universal procedure of analysis which integrates methods and tools described in various publications.

Opis:
The concept of an adaptive railway track, consisting of sleepers initially elevated (with the curvature tailored according to the detected, coming train) and then yielding in a controlled way under the moving vehicle is discussed. The problem formulated as a shape control requiring the minimum integral measure of the track deflection gives, as a side effect, a significant reduction of the corresponding integral measure of the dynamic contact forces between the track and wheels.

In this paper, the applications of the multivariate data analysis and optimization on vibration signals from compressors have been tested on the assembly line to identify nonconforming products. The multivariate analysis has wide applicability in the optimization of weather forecasting, agricultural experiments, or, as in this case study, in quality control. The techniques of discriminant analysis and linear program were used to solve the problem. The acceleration and velocity signals used in this work were measured in twenty-five rotating compressors, of which eleven were classified as good baseline compressors and fourteen with manufacturing defects by the specialists in the final acoustic test of the production line. The results obtained with the discriminant analysis separated the conforming and nonconforming groups with a significance level of 0.01, which validated the proposed methodology.

This paper presents the methods for the evaluation of budget variance risk, i.e. the risk of a difference between the budgeted and actual figures. The postulated approach is based on extreme value analysis (EVA), to offer, among other things, the evaluation of maxima distribution parameters for studied phenomena. The proper recognition of these parameters yields potential for calculation of probabilities for budget variance to pass certain levels established as critical. This methodology can be used to evaluate deviation levels by time period, and to compare them against historical data. The main objective of this paper was to examine the utility of the theory of extreme values in the estimation of budget deviation risks. The study presents the results of probabilistic analyses of data obtained from a budgetary cost control unit of a production company located in eastern Poland, for the period of 2011-2012. The developed method of analysis and assessment of budget deviations is in line with the development of concepts and methods of management accounting.

This article shows that basing on the angular momentum theorem, the nonlinear dynamical equations of the satellite attitude control system can be represented in the form of linear differential equations with variable coefficients, which makes it possible to use engineering methods of stability analysis and analysis of transient quality in the process of synthesis of the satellite attitude control system.

The assessment of the uncertainty of measurement results, an essential problem in environmental acoustic investigations, is undertaken in the paper. An attention is drawn to the – usually omitted – problem of the verification of assumptions related to using the classic methods of the confidence intervals estimation, for the controlled measuring quantity. Especially the paper directs attention to the need of the verification of the assumption of the normal distribution of the measuring quantity set, being the base for the existing and binding procedures of the acoustic measurements assessment uncertainty. The essence of the undertaken problem concerns the binding legal and standard acts related to acoustic measurements and recommended in: ‘Guide to the expression of uncertainty in measurement’ (GUM) (OIML 1993), developed under the aegis of the International Bureau of Measures (BIPM). The model legitimacy of the hypothesis of the normal distribution of the measuring quantity set in acoustic measurements is discussed and supplemented by testing its likelihood on the environment acoustic results. The Jarque-Bery test based on skewness and flattening (curtosis) distribution measures was used for the analysis of results verifying the assumption. This test allows for the simultaneous analysis of the deviation from the normal distribution caused both by its skewness and flattening. The performed experiments concerned analyses of the distribution of sound levels: LD, LE, LN, LDWN, being the basic noise indicators in assessments of the environment acoustic hazards.

The aircraft conventional control systems including pilot-operators in loop are called as active endogenous systems, because the pilots react actively to real situations evaluated by them and their solutions origin from their minds, from the nervous system. The pilots must make decisions in situations characterised by lack of information, human robust behaviour and their individual capabilities. So, decisions born from reactions of pilot are an effect of subjective analysis. This paper investigates the aircraft landing. The subjective factor is the ratio of required and available time to decision on the go around. The decision depends on the available information and psycho-physiological condition of operator pilots and can be determined with the use of theory of statistical hypotheses. This paper introduces a modified Lorenz attractor for the modelling of the endogenous dynamics of the given active system.
W pracy zbadano problem podejścia do lądowania. Do zamodelowania dynamiki rozważanego endogennego układu sterowania samolotem użyto zmodyfikowanego atraktora Lorentza.

Second order sufficient optimality conditions (SSC) are derived for optimal multiprocess control problems. For that purpose the multiprocess control problem is transformed into a single stage control problem with augmented state variables which comprise the state variables of all individual stages as well as the switching times as choice variables. This toansformation allows to apply the known SSC for single stage control problems. A numerical test of SSC involves the solution of an associated Riccati equation together with boundary conditions adapted to the multiprocess. Sensitivity analysis of parametric multiprocess problems can be based on SSC. A numerical example of the optimal two-stage control of a robot illustrates both SSC and sensitivity analysis.

The aim of the present article is to provide a systematic review of qualitative studies in the leading journals of our field focusing on their distributional properties in the various journals as well as topic choice and selected quality control issues. In order to achieve this aim, we carried out a systematic review of research articles published in leading journals in our field, namely, Applied Linguistics, Language Learning, Language Teaching Research, Studies in Second Language Acquisition and Modern Language Journal between 2016 and 2020. Our sample contains 93 articles in which researchers employed qualitative research methods or mixed methods including a qualitative component. Our main results indicate that there is great variation among journals in terms of the number of qualitative studies. As for topic considerations, some traditional individual difference variables seem to have a dominant role, with cognitive processes involved in language acquisition gaining some ground as well. Concerning quality control issues, there could be room for improvement with regard to reporting the quality control measures, including the tools employed in the studies. Based on our results, we can conclude that a more systematic understanding of acceptable processes in the field of applied linguistics could increase not only the number of qualitative articles published but also their topical importance.

Iterative Learning Control (ILC) is a well-known method for control of systems performing repetitive jobs with high precision. This paper presents Constrained Output ILC (COILC) for non-linear state space constrained systems. In the existing literature there is no general solution for applying ILC to such systems. This novel method is based on the Bounded Error Algorithm (BEA) and resolves the transient growth error problem, which is a major obstacle in applying ILC to non-linear systems. Another advantage of COILC is that this method can be applied to constrained output systems. Unlike other ILC methods the COILC method employs an algorithm that stops the iteration before the occurrence of a violation in any of the state space constraints. This way COILC resolves both the hard constraints in the non-linear state space and the transient growth problem. The convergence of the proposed numerical procedure is proved in this paper. The performance of the method is evaluated through a computer simulation and the obtained results are compared to the BEA method for controlling non-linear systems. The numerical experiments demonstrate that COILC is more computationally effective and provides better overall performance. The robustness and convergence of the method make it suitable for solving constrained state space problems of non-linear systems in robotics.

This paper deals with the improvement of the stability of sampled-data (SD) feedback control for nonlinear multiple-input multiple-output time varying systems, such as robotic manipulators, by incorporating an off-line model based nonlinear iterative learning controller. The proposed scheme of nonlinear iterative learning control (NILC) with SD feedback is applicable to a large class of robots because the sampled-data feedback is required for model based feedback controllers, especially for robotic manipulators with complicated dynamics (6 or 7 DOF, or more), while the feedforward control from the off-line iterative learning controller should be assumed as a continuous one. The robustness and convergence of the proposed NILC law with SD feedback is proven, and the derived sufficient condition for convergence is the same as the condition for a NILC with a continuous feedback control input. With respect to the presented NILC algorithm applied to a virtual PUMA 560 robot, simulation results are presented in order to verify convergence and applicability of the proposed learning controller with SD feedback controller attached.

Research background: Corruption is a phenomenon that has no borders, thus hindering the proper functioning of the social, economic, and legal systems of a given state. As the rankings assessing the level of corruption in various countries show, transition economies are more vulnerable to corruption than countries that have not undergone changes in the political and economic order. The Visegrad group is an example of such countries. Despite their efforts, these countries? governments have yet to match the evaluation of corruption indices for developed European countries. Purpose of the article: This study analyses the determinants of corruption in Visegrad countries to identify which determinants are the most impactful and thus should be the focus of Visegrad countries?governments when creating anti-corruption policies. Methods: Data for the period 1996?2019 from the databases of the World Bank, Transparency International, and the European Central Bank were used for panel data analysis. The study uses a comprehensive set of economic, socio-cultural, and political determinants that can influence corruption. The purpose of this large set of variables is to prevent possible distortion owing to omitted variables. Findings & value added: The results of the analysis of panel data show the main determinants of corruption in Visegrad countries are economic, political, and socio-cultural (phase of economic development, openness of the economy, size of the public sector, degree of urbanization, and women's share in the labour force). A significant effect was also demonstrated in the case of regulatory quality and public sector wages. The findings can serve as a valuable resource for policymakers to develop government policies in individual countries and to implement effective anti-corruption tools.

This paper proposed an image feature extraction method for laser welding molten pool inspection based on cellular neural network. TC4 titanium alloy thin plates were welded by Nd:YAG pulsed laser. A coaxial machine vision system was designed to acquire molten pool images. An auxiliary lighting source was employed to improve the molten pool image quality. By analyzing molten pool images, the welding defects such as fenestration or insufficient depth were identified. These results can be used as a feedback signal for laser power control. Experimental results showed that the proposed method can be used to improve laser welding quality.

This paper addresses the problem of model-based global stability analysis of discrete-time Takagi–Sugeno multiregional dynamic output controllers with static antiwindup filters. The presented analyses are reduced to the problem of a feasibility study of the Linear Matrix Inequalities (LMIs), derived based on Lyapunov stability theory. Two sets of LMIs are considered candidate derived from the classical common quadratic Lyapunov function, which may in some cases be too conservative, and a fuzzy Lyapunov function candidate, which has been proven to significantly reduce the conservatism level, although at the cost of increasing the number of LMIs. Two numerical examples illustrate the main result.

An analysis of the influence of inverter PWM speed control methods on the operation of a brushless DC (BLDC) motor was carried out. Field-circuit models of the BLDC motor were developed taking into account rotational speed control by two classic methods: the unipolar H_ON_L_PWM and the bipolar H_PWM_L_PWM. Waveforms of the electrical and mechanical quantities and the motor parameters were computed. The results of the computations were verified by measurements performed on a specially designed test stand. On the basis of the measuredwaveforms of the electrical and mechanical quantities the dependence of the drive system efficiencies and power losses on rotational speed was determined for the two methods of inverter control.

Opis:
The problem of overload control in Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) signaling networks gives rise to many questions which attract researchers from theoretical and practical point of view. Any mechanism that is claimed to settle this problem down demands estimation of local (control) parameters on which its performance is greatly dependent. In hysteretic mechanism these parameters are those which define hysteretic loops. In order to find appropriate values for parameters one needs adequate model of SIP traffic flow circulating in the network under consideration. In this paper the attempt is made to address this issue. Analysis of SIP traffic collected from telecommunication operator’s network is presented. Traffic profile is built. It is shown that fitting with Markov Modulated Poisson Process with more than 2 phases is accurate. Estimated values of its parameters are given.

Development of complex lubrication systems in the Oil&Gas industry has reached high levels of competitiveness in terms of requested performances and reliability. In particular, the use of HazOp (acronym of Hazard and Operability) analysis represents a decisive factor to evaluate safety and reliability of plants. The HazOp analysis is a structured and systematic examination of a planned or existing operation in order to identify and evaluate problems that may represent risks to personnel or equipment. In particular, P&ID schemes (acronym of Piping and Instrument Diagram according to regulation in force ISO 14617) are used to evaluate the design of the plant in order to increase its safety and reliability in different operating conditions. The use of a simulation tool can drastically increase speed, efficiency and reliability of the design process. In this work, a tool, called TTH lib (acronym of Transient Thermal Hydraulic Library) for the 1-D simulation of thermal hydraulic plants is presented. The proposed tool is applied to the analysis of safety relevant components of compressor and pumping units, such as lubrication circuits. Opposed to the known commercial products, TTH lib has been customized in order to ease simulation of complex interactions with digital logic components and plant controllers including their sensors and measurement systems. In particular, the proposed tool is optimized for fixed step execution and fast prototyping of Real Time code both for testing and production purposes. TTH lib can be used as a standard SimScape-Simulink library of components optimized and specifically designed in accordance with the P&ID definitions. Finally, an automatic code generation procedure has been developed, so TTH simulation models can be directly assembled from the P&ID schemes and technical documentation including detailed informations of sensor and measurement system.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to present practical and research lessons learned from analysis and the identification of failures which can occur. Failure mode and effects piping analysis (FMEPA) has been shown to be an effective way of improving piping design reliability. FMEPA is also employed for making sample control plans. Design/methodology/approach – To reduce project losses by using failure mode and effects piping analysis as a tool for analysis of the piping design department. The samples were selected from five projects. It was found that nine major points yielded a risk priority number (RPN) higher than 125. Findings – Results of RPN calculation concerning four topics revealed that the RPN value was reduced from 211 to 75, demonstrating a 64.4 percent improvement. Research limitations/implications – The study is limited to a planning and piping case study which considers RPN. Testing of the performance network regression model can be employed in companies, in which quality control has been implemented of solutions for failure prevention of piping design. Practical implications – This paper serves practitioners as a guideline and tool to understand and implement the FMEPA methodology. At this level, management sets the limits for determining measures. Management also decides whether a risk is acceptable or not. Management needs to clarify which risk priority number (RPN) represents the critical level above which requires risk reduction. Social implications – Conflicts and social unrest can cause costly delays to new projects and operations. Conflicts can also result in damage to a company’s reputation. This depends on the company’s responses to the conflict and the consequences or perceived consequences of its behavior and actions. Originality/value – This paper furnishes lessons learned for practitioners in various industrial sectors in preference to other methods of risk assessment and control activities.

Opis:
Dynamically developing terrestrial laser scanning technology (TLS) provides modern surveying tools, that is, scanning total stations and laser scanners. Owing to these instruments, periodic control surveys of concrete dams were performed as a part of geodetic monitoring yield point models characterised by quasicontinuity. Using the results of such measurements as a base, one can carry out a number of geometric analyses as well as acquire information for detailed analytical and calculative considerations. The scanner, similar to total station, by determining distances and angles, identifies spatial coordinates (X, Y, Z) of the surveyed points. Registration of the reflected laser beam’s intensity value (Intensity) emitted by the scanner provides additional information on the surveyed object. Owing to high working speed and the large amount of the collected data, the scanners became an indispensable tool for geodesists. The article assesses the possibility of application of terrestrial laser scanning in surveying changes in the surface of a concrete dam based on the experimental measurements. The condition of the dam’s downstream concrete wall was evaluated. The evaluation included changes in the surface’s roughness, cracks, seepage points, erosion caused by plant overgrowth and the degressive durability parameter of the used material (concrete). The article presents an example of the application of the results of a laser scan in the assessment of the condition of a water dam’s external concrete surfaces. The results of experimental measurements were analysed – the results of a scan of the downstream concrete wall of a dam in Ecker (Germany) using two laser scanners characterised by different technical parameters, that is, laser wavelength (laser’s colour), range, definable point density, method of distance measurement – Leica C10, Z+F Imager 5006h. The measurement was carried out in the same weather conditions from the same sites of the test base. The results of the measurements were analysed using, inter alia, statistical methods by defining template fields and supervised and unsupervised classification methods in reference to the selected fragments of the Surface characterised by known concrete surface properties. Various classification algorithms were used. The obtained results make it possible to assess the suitability of the proposed methodology of evaluating the concreto surface’s condition and establish tool selection principles to match the practical application requirements.

The paper provides statistical analysis of the photographs of four various granular materials (peas, pellets, triticale, wood chips). For analysis, the (parametric) ANOVA and the (nonparametric) Kruskal-Wallis tests were applied. Additionally, the (parametric) two-sample t-test and (non-parametric) Wilcoxon Rank-Sum Test for pairwise comparisons were performed. In each case, the Bonferroni correction was used. The analysis shows a statistical evidence of the presence of differences between the respective average discrete pixel intensity distributions (PID), induced by the histograms in each group of photos, which cannot be explained only by the existing differences among single granules of different materials. The proposed approach may contribute to the development of a fast inspection method for comparison and discrimination of granular materials differing from the reference material, in the production process.

Opis:
An algorithm for optimal control of a gas network with any configuration based upon hierarchical control and decomposition of the network is described. Local problems are solved using a gradient technique. The subsystems are coordinated using „good coordination” method to find the overall optimum. Discrete state equation for the case in which output pressures are treated as elements of the control vector has been formulated. Results of investigations are included.

Opis:
The paper deals with the modeling and fault-tolerant control of a real battery assembly system which is under implementation at the RAFI GmbH company (one of the leading electronic manufacturing service providers in Germany). To model and control the battery assembly system, a unified max-plus algebra and model predictive control framework is introduced. Subsequently, the control strategy is enhanced with fault-tolerance features that increase the overall performance of the production system being considered. In particular, it enables tolerating (up to some degree) mobile robot, processing and transportation faults. The paper discusses also robustness issues, which are inevitable in real production systems. As a result, a novel robust predictive fault-tolerant strategy is developed that is applied to the battery assembly system. The last part of the paper shows illustrative examples, which clearly exhibit the performance of the proposed approach.

Aim: If companies manage their inventory inefficiently, inventory costs can increase significantly due to shortages, overstocking, and risks. Inventory management is critical for company’s success which, in turn, impacts on countries’ development. This paper aims to investigate the efficiency of inventory control systems of companies from Brazil and Chile through Optimal Control Theory and Data Envelopment Analysis. Design/Research methods: Data was collected from Chilean and Brazilian companies covering different industries in which both countries are mostly dependent A new approach using OCT and DEA is applied for dealing with inventory, production, and demand in Dynamic DEA model to benchmark companies’ production-inventory systems. Conclusions/findings: The results show efficient companies among evaluated industries. Such companies are related mainly to Brazilian commerce and Chilean exports. Based on findings, it was possible to identify patterns and relationship among companies and its inventory management. Originality/value of the article: This paper fills a gap in studies including demand, production, and inventory in Dynamic DEA by using OCT to forewarn unrealistic results and observing companies’ behavior. Besides that, this approach is particularly useful for developing countries in this context, determining benchmarks for the most inefficient firms in each sector. Implications of the research: The results show (1) which companies should focus more on improving inventory management, (2) which companies should be used as benchmarks, and (3) it highlights the reasons of different performance of companies in each country. Limitations of the research: For future research, it is suggested including variables and analysis of social and environmental impacts.

Opis:
Bidirectional Inductive power transfer (IPT) systems behave as high order resonant networks and hence are highly sensitive to changes in system parameters. Traditional PID controllers often fail to maintain satisfactory power regulation in the presence of parametric uncertainties. To overcome these problems, this paper proposes a robust controller which is designed using linear matrix inequality (LMI) techniques. The output sensitivity to parametric uncertainty is explored and a linear fractional transformation of the nominal model and its uncertainty is discussed to generate a standard configuration for μ-synthesis and LMI analysis. An H∞ controller is designed based on the structured singular value and LMI feasibility analysis with regard to uncertainties in the primary tuning capacitance, the primary and pickup inductors and the mutual inductance. Robust stability and robust performance of the system is studied through μ-synthesis and LMI feasibility analysis. Simulations and experiments are conducted to verify the power regulation performance of the proposed controller.

The basis for the control work for the quality in manufacturing process is the supervision of the effects of this process and the verification of the correctness of the employees' activities. The continuity of the control activities carried out indicates the need to supervise all production elements of the offered products. The article presents unit guidelines of quality analyzes for the production and assembly of car brake calipers. The presented analyzes constitute the basis of a complete supervision system and are an element repeated in each subsequent production batch. The quantitative analysis of production non-conformities was supplemented with the determination of the causes and effects for these errors, and the analysis of statistical indicators of qualitative ability. The results for one production batch were presented along with the adopted procedure, which are a component of the system of supervision over the results of control processes included in the production process.

Opis:
In Poland there are over a dozen bodies engaged in protection of environment. The tasks in the field of combating environmental crime are carried out by several institutions with varied duties and control and investigative powers, including appearing before trial court. The system of law enforcement institutions engaged in environmental protection is undoubtedly dispersed. There is no agency legally entitled to coordinate or influence the activities undertaken by other institutions within the system. The main role here is undoubtedly played by Environmental Protection Inspectorate. It was tasked with both monitoring of compliance with the environmental protection regulations in a very wide scope, as well as independent conduct of certain operational activities and granted investigative powers. The role of the Environmental Protection Inspection will increase in the future, as evidenced by the establishment in 2021 of the Department for Combating Environmental Crimes at the Chief Inspectorate for Environmental Protection. So far, the vast majority of investigations concerning environmental crimes are conducted by the Police. There are, however, no specialised police units fighting environmental crimes and corresponding activities are carried out by departments combating economic crimes. Cases concerning organized forms of environmental crime are conducted by the Central Investigation Bureau of Police. No coherent strategy to combat environmental crime has been developed so far. Cooperation between various involved institutions is based on bilateral and multilateral agreements. An undertaking necessary to improve the effectiveness of combating environmental crimes is currently primarily the creation of common database of these crimes mechanisms and perpetrators, as well as creation of an analytical structure dealing with this issue,

The objectives of this study were to examine the agreement between 5 ergonomic risk assessment methods calculated on the basis of quantitative exposure measures and to examine the ability of the methods to correctly classify 4 at risk jobs. Surface electromyography and electrogoniometry were used to record the physical exposures of 87 sawmill workers performing 4 repetitive jobs. Five ergonomic risk assessment tools (rapid upper limb assessment [RULA], rapid entire body assessment [REBA], American conference of governmental industrial hygienist’s threshold limit value for mono-task hand work [ACGIH TLV], strain index [SI], and concise exposure index [OCRA]) were calculated. Dichotomization of risk to no risk and at risk resulted in high agreement between methods. Percentage of perfect agreement between methods when 3 levels of risk were considered was moderate and varied by job. Of the methods examined, the RULA and SI were best (correct classification rates of 99 and 97% respectively). The quantitative ACGIH-TLV for mono-task hand work and Borg scale were worst (misclassification rates of 86 and 28% respectively).
