This article analizes the causes of a dissonance between significant collective civilizational progress and injudicious individual choice. To show these causes, five basic hypotheses are presented, based on inter-disciplinary analyses : viz. political manipulation, media manipulation, an ineffective education system, inadequate scientific communication, and misunderstanding. The possibility of constructing social consensus and harmony can be perceived in the general education of knowledgable and responsible teachers on all levels and spheres of education, who will be able to explain the complexity of the world and transform the educational system.

Opis:
This article deals with the philosophical foundations of communication education. At the beginning, the author points out that communication skills are an important issue. For a long time, researchers have been wondering about the good qualities of public speaking, as well as what qualities a speaker should have in order to convey knowledge, and the importance of communication skills in social life and individual development. then the author shows what communication education is understood as, on the one hand, the ability to transfer knowledge, and on the other hand, teaching to communicate clearly and purposefully. In the next step, the author indicates the differences between the rhetorical approach and the relational approach to communication, and then points to the rules of discourse and emphasizes the importance of a realistic philosophy focused on presenting the truth in accordance with the good of the recipient. Finally, she indicates the consequences of the approach to communication detached from the real and intersubjective reality and shows what responsibility therefore lies on the part of the teacher, as the one who is supposed to bring students closer to the truth.

Opis:
The common good is a category from the area of political philosophy, underestimated by liberalism, and very important for the republican tradition. This category is problematic because there are difficulties with defining it and setting the scope. The author puts forward the thesis that the common good – regardless of the controversy that arouses in political philosophy –is a category important for pedagogical reflection, and at the same time is an absent category. The rationale behind this thesis focuses on two issues: 1) the aims of education are neoliberally oriented and the category of the common good is almost absent in them, which is very undesirable in the context of shaping the citizens of a democratic community; 2) processes taking place inside the education are also not conducive to thinking in terms of the common good, mainly due to the advantage of rivalry over cooperation and faulty interpersonal communication.

The language and other media used in educational practices do not simply transmit the ideas and intentions of speakers and writers. The practices themselves shape and are shaped by what is said. The texts produced by speakers and writers in a practice such as mathematics education thus draw on ways of construing the world that are legitimate within the practice and also constrain the ways in which listeners and readers may respond.Discourse analytic methods drawing on Halliday’s systemic functional linguistics provide means of describing the world of mathematics education through analysis of its spoken and written texts. This allows us to address questions about the nature of mathematics and mathematical activity and about the nature of teaching and learning, of teachers and of students as these are produced in the texts of a given practice. This article is based on a plenary lecture presented at the Children’s Mathematical Education conference held in Poznań, Poland in July 2014. In it, I discuss a discourse analytic theoretical and methodological approach to researching mathematics education and illustrate this with examples drawn from investigations of curriculum and classroom practice.

teacher’s role, information and communication technologies (ICT) in education
Opis:
The widespread use of information and communication technologies (ICT) nowadays provokes  reflection on the teacher’s professional role in the education process. The transformation of the teacher’s role from the traditional one which perceives teaching only as a way of transmitting knowledge, to the new approach in which the teacher is seen as a mentor helping students in their autonomous human progress, seems to be a very important issue in the management of education. The process depends on the variety of factors. The author presents the results of research conducted among the teachers in one of Polish secondary schools. The results show relation between willingness of taking the new role in teaching and the level of ICT knowledge. The understanding of threats brought by ICT and the Internet to education is also an important factor.

Opis:
The whole education process is based on the communication between the teacher and the student. Interactions with children determine the effects of education and, undoubtedly, have influence on children’s well-being in class. Hence, we can say that the success in teaching depends largely on the communication competence of the teacher which determines establishing positive contact with students and their parents. These skills gain special importance in the education of early school-age children. It results from the fact that the interactions between the teacher and the children, at this stage of education, are long-lasting. This article presents reflections on the multidimensional character of communication competence and its meaning in teacher’s work as an organizer and enforcer of education process. After having reviewed the studies about communication competence of early school education teachers, the authors presented the results of their own research conducted in a group of second-year students of early school and preschool pedagogy. The conclusion presents reflections on the need for developing broadly understood communication competence in candidates for teachers which in the future will decide about their professionalism.
Po dokonaniu przeglądu dotychczasowych badań dotyczących umiejętności komunikacyjnych nauczycieli edukacji wczesnoszkolnej przedstawione zostały wyniki badań własnych przeprowadzonych w grupie studentek II roku pedagogiki wczesnoszkolnej i przedszkolnej.

Scholars all over the world have been arguing for foreign language instruction which combines linguistic and cultural content. Eliminating the cultural side results in a deficient process. This study explored prospective teachers’ perceptions of both constituents, since they will ultimately be responsible for their implementation in the foreign language classroom. To this end, 137 students from three European universities were chosen and asked to fill out an online questionnaire with Likert scale items. Data was collected and interpreted using the free statistics software package R (R Core Team, 2019). The findings confirmed that the relevance of linguistic / cultural issues was unanimously acknowledged (98,5%), speaking was appointed as the most desired target skill (97,1%), interpersonal relations (88,3%) as the most important aspect of socio-cultural knowledge, and lessons with native speakers (94,2%) as the most relevant classroom resource

From research on policy implementation and reform in education, it is well known that change is either very slow or tends to fail. Implementation is a complex procedure, not a direct transfer from government policy to practice (Younie, 2006). There is also research-based knowledge about planning and implementing of ICT strategies in Finland and difficulties in this implementation (Lavonen, Lattu, Juuti, & Meisalo, 2006). Consequently, it is challenging to help student teachers or practicing teachers to adopt use of ICT in education. We will focus here mainly on initial teacher education (TE) according to the OECD ICT in Initial Teacher Training (IITT) project aims. In general, there is a broad agreement on reasons and methods why and how ICT should be integrated to TE. The importance of this area can be seen in that there are specific associations for promoting research in this area like the Association for Information Technology in Teacher Education and many more whose activities expend to this field like the Finnish Association for Mathematics and Science Education Research in Finland.

The rapid pace of changes occurring in our society causes that we are increasingly faced with the question: what should be the aim of education? Finding the answer is difficult as the multiplicity and variety of factors that affect the development of the personality of our pupils is such that it is impossible to predict what impact they may have on the functioning of individuals. Given social changes taking place, the issue of a crisis in education is frequently raised. The aim of this paper is to show the importance of interpersonal communication in creating the educational process. The text shows changes taking place in the contemporary world and in light of this presents the category of education as well as the factors leading to the crisis in education. The analysis of the literature and the results of authors’ own studies provide an opportunity to discuss the role of interpersonal communication.

Background: In the work of a physician, not only knowledge, and professional skills (technical/hard) are important, but also psychosocial skills (relational/soft). Objectives: The primary goal of the presented research was evaluation of the level (study of the state) of communication competences of physicians and determination of the factors on which this level depends. An additional goal was analysis of the needs and educational possibilities within the existing models of education in the area of interpersonal communication provided in Medical Universities in Poland. Design, setting and participants: Information about educational curricula available on the websites of 12 Medical Universities in Poland were compared. The self-designed questionnaire and adjective check list were subject to standardization from the aspect of reliability and validity. The study groups included 1) occupationally-active physicians (185 respondents) employed in outpatient departments and hospitals, who were covered by a pre-graduate standard educational programme and not trained in interpersonal communication skills as part of their continuing education; 2) medical students covered by a standard educational programme (246 respondents). Results: The conducted analysis of the educational curricula showed a very narrow scope of problems concerning professional medical communication. The results indicating the general state of respondents’ communication competences within all aspects (motivation, skills, knowledge) were relatively low. That clearly indicated an inadequate educational model (students), and lack of post-graduate training in the area of professional medical communication (physicians). Conclusions: The education of students of medicine should cover selected classes within the scope of professional communication competences. These classes should be based on the systemically designed training of skills. The patterning by students of the relations attitudes observed in practising physicians is insufficient. It is necessary to apply a methodical evaluation of communication competences, diagnosing educational needs of occupationally active physicians in this respect. This allows the preparation of courses in accordance with the needs in the area of professional communication competences.

Currently, development of language and cultural competencies is of fundamental importance. Cultural education (including multiculturalism) enriches and models one’s own culture, prepares for dialogue, creates identity based on the strong sense of national values and roots while respecting and understanding others. The goal of language learning is clear: education should lead to language competence, make cultural intertwining easier and implement the basis for tolerance and openness. Cultural (multicultural) competence is a result of gaining experience (also linguistic experience) which is an ongoing process involving analysis and discovering rules rather than being a skill that one can learn.

For centuries, different cultures mutually displaced, destroy, seek to dominate and expansion and single action aimed at mutual understanding were not effective. But a different world is possible. Lead to a different way in the economy, politics but also and above all in the culture. And it is intercultural education has lead to the understanding of cultural differences – from the subcultures in their own communities to the culture of remote communities, prepare to interact and strengthen their own identity. Cooperation with representatives of the different cultures of the global world is a very important and responsible task for the modern system of education aimed at preparing the public to new challenges. They consist in building a global culture, to deepen their own identity of individuals, groups and communities by promoting tolerance and dialogue, because of globalization, despite the trend towards integration and unification of people from all over the world, our actions and choices are determined by history, tradition and the culture in which we were raised and grew up. The aim of the study is to identify and describe the impact of influencers on adolescents in regard to accessibility to information and communication. A software solution was used in order to obtain samples for the analysis of multiple posts published by different individuals in various social networks. The results indicate that opportunities for an effective process of education concerning the aforementioned elements can be observed if the content published by influencers is compliant with certain factors. Some of those factors are as follows: the posts should describe personal examples to which people can relate or can perceive in order to comprehend the challenges connected to accessibility in a better way; the content should comprise explanations that clarify  situations and issues, providing information and raising awareness; the followers and the influencers should encourage discussions on these topics, ensuring that decisions should be made and solutions should be found on the matter of accessibility in the area of communication.

Background: A dissonance between high ‘technical’ professionalism of nurses and a relatively low level of patient satisfaction with received care is a phenomenon observed in many countries. Method: Theoretical concept and review of current published studies. Discussion: Most reviewed studies show that a low level of patient satisfaction occurs in the case of an inadequate interpersonal communication between nurses and patients. Most studies indicate poor effectiveness of shaping communication competences of nurses based on standard education in the area of general psychology and communication knowledge, because this knowledge does not convert itself ‘spontaneously’ into communication competences during occupational activity. Conclusions: It is necessary to supplement educational programmes for nurses with practical courses in professional interpersonal communication. International experience exchange concerning the shaping of nurses’ communication competences may be limited due to cultural, organizational and systems factors.

Aim. This article presents the results obtained in a qualitative research related to classroom practices and perceptions of teachers of English as a foreign language in Spain. The aim of this study is to present examples of good teaching practices, including the types of resources, materials and assessment used in spoken English teaching.  Methods. A qualitative investigation that used ethnographic (non-participant)  observation in primary and secondary English classes was implemented in thirty-two schools. Additionally, twenty semi-structured interviews with primary and secondary teachers were conducted. Results and conclusion. The results show significant differences between both applied methods Non-participant observation indicates that spoken communication in English is not practised sufficiently. However, based on interview results, teachers do apply appropriate language learning strategies that could allow them to successfully teach speaking skills in their students. The results imply that in Spain, there are still many teachers and educational institutions that follow the Grammar Translation Method and other traditional methodologies, which still focus primarily on writing skills. However, several examples of good practices and inspiring methodological and motivational strategies have been found throughout this research, which might be considered as a precedent for those that focus on writing approaches. Cognitive value. This article displays an original research supported by University of Oviedo, through which, the reader can approach to the teaching of spoken English in Spain by means of  some teachers´ perceptions and examples of good practices.

The role of the university lecturer as a source of information and the influence of that information upon students and their agenda was the object of the study. The empirical study featured a panel of 248 Spanish university students and the results highlight the importance of the role of the university lecturer in channelling information to students even though findings demonstrate that the issues which are important for students (their agenda) may be less relevant for lecturers.

Abstract This paper examines the influence and power of language in education in Nigeria from the precolonial to colonial and post-colonial times. This is with regards to the effect of language on gender issues within the country. Nigeria, a country on the west coast of Africa is multi-ethnic with over 150 (one hundred and fifty) ethnic groups with their different indigenous languages and cultures. As a colony of the British, the Christian missionaries who first introduced western form of education in Nigeria used the British English language as a medium of communication and subsequently with the establishment of colonial administration in the country, English language was made the official language of the country. This paper contains a critical analysis of the use of English Language in the country and its implications on communication in social and economic interactions of individuals within the various communities across the country.  It argues that the proliferation of the English language was through education of which the male gender benefitted more than their female counterparts due to the patriarchal dominance in the country. The data for the study was collated from random interviews and other written sources. The research discovered that the knowledge and ability to speak fluently and write the English language had a direct influence on the socio-political and economic status of individuals within the country. The women who benefitted from this were comparatively fewer than the men due to some prevailing conditions of what could be called in the present the subjugation of women the society. Critical discourse analysis is adopted for this study. It argues that English language dependency by Nigerians shows that forms of the colonial experience is still evident and these were all initiated during the past interactions with west through the transatlantic slave trade and colonial rule. This is because discourse as a social construct is created and perpetuated by the persons who have the language power and means of communication. The Nigerian family being of a conservative orientation derives its power directly from the father who is the patriarch of the family as obtained in the traditional set up of communities and the Nigerian society in general. This has grave effect on the opposite gender

The emergence in recent years of the concept of intercultural learning has raised questions about how the notion relates to a pedagogy that fosters openness, exploration, and critical thinking. In this article, the author provides a critical examination of a conventional understanding of intercultural learning to clarify its construction and to elucidate its instructional implications. Central to this alternative is a pedagogy that acknowledges students’ former experiences and competencies without making cultural predictions. Instead of reducing the process of understanding to a technical issue, this paper advocates the integration of intercultural learning in schools by connecting the curriculum to students’ lives and identities. This paper ends with a consideration of the future prospects of intercultural learning, suggesting more research on how intercultural learning actually takes place in schools and society.

The presented diagnostic study concerning intercultural competence was carried out in the pedagogical context of intercultural education. The research place was chosen purposively: it resulted from the intercultural character of Białystok. In the interwar period that the study refers to, the biggest national groups in the town were Poles and Jews. There were also Belarusians, Russians, Germans and Tatars. As part of the analysis of intercultural competence of students from Poland and Israel I focused on the respondents’ declarations concerning their knowledge of the social structure of pre-war Białystok. Then, I determined what motivates secondary school students to learn about the past. Developing the competence in the affective/motivational area is of key importance in intercultural communication. Identifying the reasons why secondary school students from Poland and Israel find it worth learning about the history of their ancestors is as important as knowledge of the history of our cultural group and other cultures. It was also important to determine the level of Polish youths’ readiness to communicate with students from Israel, and vice versa. Diagnosing the students’ competence allows educators to plan adequate educational activities aimed at broadening intercultural competence, to strengthen the existing resources, to improve the weak points, and fill in the gaps.

The presented image is based on data collected through on-line questionnaires from 1,772 pupils from Classes I–III at primary schools taking part in the project of implementing the method of tutoring “Raise a wise man”. As a result of the analysis, it can be stated that the group of the youngest students rates the school best, and the growing need to contact tutors who build with them individual relationships based on trust may indicate room for modeling the proper use of information and communication technologies.

Each group has its own dynamism of development which is mostly comprised of commonly shared values and personality features of the group and its leader. Conflicts are a natural phenomenon in the functioning of a group. If they are only half-solved, they lead to serious crises. An educator plays a vital role in the process of conflict resolution. To make problems arising in a group become the occasion for both personal and group development, an educator has to possess suitable skills of sincere communication with group members, has to determine the core of the conflict, be open to another person’s opinions and be capable of compromise.

And for the customer to be satisfied as well as the company to have positive outcomes – it's necessary for a company to focus some of their activities on the internal communication. Therefore, the aim of this article is to show the importance of internal communication within the organisation, because through the correctly set process of internal communication the company integrates people, communicates targets and its mission – what nowadays is the key to success. Equally, it's an important part of every corporation communication which forms a part of the whole reputation of the organisation or a business.

Opis:
Sex education and conversations about intimate relationships are generally regarded to be important and can contribute to young women’s positive or negative reproductive health development and general well-being. The findings contained in this article suggest that in a resource poor South African township, mothers and their daughters struggle to initiate and conduct meaningful discussions about sex. These discussions are often framed in terms of possible negative consequences of intimate relationships, such as unplanned pregnancy, dropping out of school, or possible Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infection. However, these discussions are clearly not altogether effective as several young research participants had an unplanned baby. Emotional aspects that are normally associated with intimate relationships are missing from the mother-daughter conversations.

The purpose of this article is to present the basic concepts and practical application of the Process Communication Model® in the field of education. PCM® is a psychological personality model developed by the American clinical psychologist Dr. Taibi Kahler (Pauley, J., Bradley, D., Pauley J., 2002, p. xxiii). The model shows how to communicate effectively taking into account different personality types by using communication channels and gives the key to recognizing psychological needs and the resulting individual motivations specific to the base type of personality and phase, i.e. the currently dominant personality type (Kahler, 2008, pp. 45-81, 111–116). Also practical conclusions from the application of the model in the field of education in schools in the USA are presented (Donlan, 2003, pp. 48-49).

This article aimed to suggest implications of learner-centered culture education through observation, participant observation, interviewing or ethnoscience in particular. Korean Arabic language learners were asked to watch two episodes of an Arab soap opera and compare and contrast their own culture from Arab culture based on what they had watched. Results of this study showed a desir- able direction, from insiders’ perspectives, for culture education utilizing the methodology of ethnography of communication. In order to establish Korean learners’ cultural identities as well as to equip them with cross-cultural compe- tence through which they can appropriately, accurately behave depending on situational context, this methodology of ethnography of communication into Arab culture educational practice should be made in the future.

Opis:
Financial exclusion can be considered as one of the important problems in countries at the average level of socioeconomic development that include, among others, Poland. It consists in the presence of difficulties in accessing and/or using financial products and services available on the main market that meet the needs of individuals, which prevents them from leading a normal life in society. Due to its own characteristics and trends in financial markets, this phenomenon is closely linked to the issue of the digital divide. Accordingly, it can be seen that solutions leading to the reduction of financial exclusion are based on tools using information technology innovations and modern technologies. One of the methods recognised as the most effective in this area is financial education, aimed largely at children and adolescents, which additionally justifies the choice of such tools. It is equally important to determine the extent to which modern instruments are preferred in comparison with traditional ones. The aim of this paper will be the analysis of the solutions based on modern technologies that are used in actions taken to prevent financial exclusion in selected EU countries, including Poland. The structure of the paper is as follows: the first part will present the problem of financial exclusion (identifying groups particularly at risk), then a review of methods of preventing and combating financial exclusion will be presented, with particular emphasis on modern ICT tools, and the final part will indicate possible directions and barriers to the solutions that may lead to a reduced level of financial exclusion of individuals. The methods used include an in-depth analysis of the literature and a review of existing solutions which financial institutions provide on the Web.

Opis:
For several years, cyber communication has been an integral part of a social awareness. At first, it was treated as something irrelevant – a tidbit which then became a trend which later on became an integral part of (virtual) reality. During that time it has gone through several phases of dynamic development to finally transform into (cyber) environment which is perceived by modern-day teenagers as something natural. Digital exchange of information has entered into almost every element of our lives – especially education – processes of teaching and learning. It has also caused quite considerable changes – not only in technological areas but also in social and professional segments of our lives.

The article presents selected issues regarding axiological education at Polish lessons in IV–VIII grades of primary school. Such education is related to both the way students communicate with the world of values, and evaluation processes which are ingrained in works of literature and various cultural texts, as well as the matters regarding proper understanding of linguistic phenomena overned by expression of axiological content. Lessons at school should include axiological communication based mainly on a dialogue between the teacher and students, which facilitates mutual stimulation of both in the atmosphere of freedom, respect, tolerance and kindness. The article highlights the issue of patriotism, which is important in terms of culture and society, and at the same time essential in terms of educational aims. Patriotism and its different faces were described as part of modern multiculturalism, which demands tolerant behaviour towards “aliens”. Nowadays, we can notice the need to combine patriotic tradition with the new model of patriotism that opens itself to European and global values.

The article deals with issues present in the humanities undergoing the changes due to rhetorization of contemporary culture. First I am discussing the impact of the variability of modern culture on traditional humanities (new methodology and new theory of science based on a rhetorical approach to the text and its symbolic and ideological meaning). This caused the great development of various rhetorical studies in the 20th century (from philosophy of language to practical art of speaking and argumentation). In our time, those studies answer the questions: 1) why and for what reasons do we depend on other people's views? 2) how can we exert a positive influence by text communication on other individuals? Therefore, nowadays we are seeing a new rhetorical trend in communication studies concerning all the culture texts – this trend also affects literary studies and cultural anthropology: academic disciplines which adopt the research tools of the traditional and new rhetorical workshop. This new attitude towards the humanities has an impact on general education at schools and universities.

As the world becomes more and more culturally diverse, an accurate knowledge of the influence of cultural factors on the mental processes of an individual and the construction of social capital become increasingly important for our ability to effectively understand differences in culture. How can we cope with this task in everyday life? What is the relevance of comparative education in this process? One solution could be to create a certain intellectual map of cultural similarities and differences to which we could refer at any time in order to better understand the diversity around us. Such a peculiar encyclopaedia of knowledge about the diversity of the world has not yet been created, and it is unlikely that it will, given the dynamics of social processes, the multiplicity of events and ways of understanding them. Then how can a rational model for dealing with cultural diversity be created? In this article, I want to draw attention to the importance of comparative education in the creation of such a model, taking into account the relatively new position of comparativists recognising that a considerably important role in the process of coping with cultural diversity and difference is played i.a. by dialogic memory.
