W artykule przedstawiono zagadnienie projektowania regulatora pozycji i kursu dla układu dynamicznego pozycjonowania statku, z zastosowaniem rekurencyjnej wektorowej metody backstepping. Wielowymiarowy regulator backstepping został zastosowany do stabilizacji pozycji i kursu na wartościach zadanych, w obecności zakłóceń falowych. Do estymacji prędkości statku i filtracji zakłóceń zastosowano nieliniowy obserwator pasywny. Wyniki symulacji porównano z nieliniowym regulatorem PID.
In commercial Dynamic Positioning systems is still used PID control, despite a significant increase in the level of automation. To improve the quality of the positioning of the vessel may allow the use of more effective methods and algorithms, providing advanced nonlinear control techniques. The problem of synthesis a dynamic positioning system for low frequency model of surface vessel was considered in this paper. The recursive vectorial backstepping control design was used to keep a fixed position and heading in presence of wave disturbances. The passive observer was introduced to smooth the measurements and to estimate the velocities needed for the control algorithm. The simulation results were compared with PID controller.

A ship, as an object for course control, is characterised by a nonlinear function describing the static manoeuvring characteristics. One of the methods, which can be used, for designing a non-linear course controller for ships is the backstepping method. It was used here for designing the configurations of non-linear controllers, which were then applied for ship course control. The parameters of the obtained non-linear control structures were tuned to optimise the operation of the control system. The optimisation was performed using genetic algorithms. The quality of operation of the designed control algorithms was checked in simulation tests performed on the mathematical model of the tanker completed by steering gear.

The article presents various configurations of nonlinear ship course controllers. The controllers were designed based on backstepping method, the PD and sliding mode control. The controller versions at the design stage take into account the dynamic properties of the steering gear. A simplified simulation model of the B-481 type vessel, including wave and wind effects, was applied to simulate the control algorithm by using time domain analysis. The results of computer simulations have shown the advantages of control algorithms taking into account the dynamics of steering gear such as the increasing the economic efficiency of system operation, the reducing rudder activity and increasing the average speed of the vessel during the voyage.
W artykule zostały przedstawione różne konfiguracje regulatorów nieliniowych do sterowania kursem statku.

Opis:
W układach morskich aplikacja nieliniowych technik adaptacyjnych do sterowania ruchem statku jest obecnie niezbędna aby uwzględnić występujące niepewności strukturalne i parametryczne.
The paper deals with issues concerning the advanced ship course control system. The control algorithm suggested in the work is based on the backstepping method and a genetic algorithm. The ship course adaptive controller configuration was designed with use of the backstepping procedure [see section 2]. The controller version (17) includes the adaptation block of ship model parameters (23)-(25). The adaptation of ship model parameters to the updating law derived on a basis of II Function Lyapunov theory enables us to obtain good adaptation properties of the system in the presence of the so-called parametric uncertainties, e.g. connected with the influence of environmental disturbances, such as wind or a sea wave. The adjustable parameters of the obtained nonlinear steering structures (Fig. 1.) were tuned up in order to optimize the system operation. A genetic algorithm was used for optimization. The quality of operation of the obtained steering structures was analyzed by conducting simulation experiments on a simplified (1)-(4) and complex simulation model of a ship of type B-481, [see Sections 3,4]. The results of computer simulation experiments showed the high quality of control and system stability of such steering (Figs. 2, 3, 4). The considered system realizes basic tasks, such as: stabilization of the system, the tuning of controller amplification, adaptation of the system to changing environmental conditions.

Opis:
Robust path following control for underactuated surface ships is an important issue in marine control practice. This paper aims to improve the robustness of the close-loop system with model uncertainties and time-varying disturbances. A practical adaptive backstepping control scheme with a pre-filter is proposed to force a surface vessel to track the predefined path generated by the virtual ship. Based on the Lyapunov stability theorem, this algorithm can guarantee all error signals in the overall system to be uniformly ultimately bounded, and it can be implemented without exact knowledge of the nonlinear damping structure and environmental disturbances. The proposed pre-filter can smooth the commanded heading order and obtain a better performance of the waypoint-based navigation control system. Two simulation cases are drawn to illustrate the validity of the proposed control strategy.

The article discusses the issue of designing a dynamic ship positioning system making use of the adaptive vectorial backstepping method and RBF type artificial neural networks. In the article, the backstepping controller is used to determine control laws and neural network weight adaptation laws. The artificial neural network is applied at each time instant to approximate nonlinear functions containing parametric uncertainties. The proposed control system does not require precise knowledge of the model of ship dynamics and external disturbances, it also eliminates the problem of analytical determination of the regression matrix when designing the control law with the aid of the adaptive backstepping procedure.

This article describes the non-linear backstepping control algorithm used to stabilize the inverted pendulum IWP (Inertia Wheel Pendulum). The analysed object is a construction mounted on two wheels with an electric motor accelerating the flywheel. This is the non-linear system with two degrees of freedom (the angle of inclination and rotation of the wheel) and one actuator (torque on the motor shaft). The vertical position is the unstable operating point. The Lyapunov stability theory allowed to formulate the control law analyticity. The result is compared with the linear-quadratic control LQR (Linear Quadratic Regulator). The simulation tests showed differences of both algorithms and benefits of using backstepping.

n this paper we present a new design method for the fight control of an autonomous quadrotor helicopter based on fuzzy sliding mode control using backstepping approach. Due to the underactuated property of the quadrotor helicopter, the controller can move three positions (x;y; z) of the helicopter and the yaw angle to their desired values and stabilize the pitch and roll angles. A first-order nonlinear sliding surface is obtained using the backstepping technique, on which the developed sliding mode controller is based. Mathematical development for the stability and convergence of the system is presented. The main purpose is to eliminate the chattering phenomenon. Thus we have used a fuzzy logic control to generate the hitting control signal. The performances of the nonlinear control method are evaluated by simulation and the results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed control strategy for the quadrotor helicopter in vertical flights.

Due to the external disturbances, model uncertainties, strong coupling, and occurred faults, the winding machine presents a great control challenge. In order to deal with these problems, this paper presents the formulation of a novel scheme of fault tolerant control (FTC) for three-motor web-winding systems; it is concerned with the nonlinear robust backstepping control based on the combination of RST and backstepping controllers where the process is modelled by a nonlinear model. The main contribution of the paper is that the approach developed here summarises the performance of RST and backstepping controllers in order to design a robust controller capable of eliminating external disturbances and sensor faults affecting the system. The stability of the whole system is proven using the Lyapunov theory. Finally, analysis in comparison with the conventional backstepping controller and simulations in the MATLAB environment are accomplished to confirm the efficiency of the proposed method.

W artykule przedstawiono rezultaty działania sterowania liniowo-kwadratowego LQR (ang. Linear Quadratic Regulator) i nieliniowego backstepping na realnym obiekcie. Obiektem sterowania jest wahadło odwrócone z napędem inercyjnym (IWP - ang. Inertia Wheel Pendulum). Posiada ono dwa stopnie swobody: kąt odchylenia od pionu oraz kąt obrotu koła zamachowego. Wirującą masę napędza wysokomomentowy silnik umieszczony wewnątrz konstrukcji. Obiekt posiada mniej wymuszeń (jedno) niż stopni swobody (dwa) i dlatego nazywany jest underactuated. Celem układu regulacji jest utrzymywanie urządzenia w pozycji pionowej stanowiącej punkt równowagi. Zastosowano sterowanie nieliniowe backstepping. Kąt obrotu koła zamachowego mierzony jest przez enkoder inkrementalny. Do pomiaru poziomu odchylenia od pionu zastosowano jednostkę IMU (ang. Inertial Measurement Unit) zawierającą akcelerometr i żyroskop. Chcąc stworzyć efektywnie działającą fuzję sensoryczną, zastosowano filtrację Kalmana. Dzięki temu możliwe jest ustalenie odpowiedniego stopnia zaufania odpowiednim potokom pomiarowym i odfiltrowanie szkodliwych zakłóceń. Wykonano testy na obiekcie rzeczywistym i udowodniono poprawność działania zastosowanych algorytmów.
This paper presents the results and comparison of linear quadratic control LQR and nonlinear backstepping on a real device. This device is the inverted pendulum driven by an accelerating inertia – inertia wheel pendulum. It has two degrees of freedom: the angle of inclination and the angle of rotation of the flywheel and one actuator – a high torque DC electric engine. Thus it is called underactuated. The purpose of the control system is to maintain the device in a vertical position which is the unstable equilibrium point. The angle of rotation of the flywheel is measured by an incremental encoder. To measure the angle from the vertical position, there was used the IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) containing an accelerometer and a gyroscope. In order to create an effectively functioning sensory fusion, Kalman filtering was used. This made it possible to determine the appropriate level of trust for sensors and to filter out harmful noise. The correct effect of the used algorithms is presented.

In this paper, we propose a robust nonlinear control design concept based on a coefficient diagram method and backstepping control, combined with a nonlinear observer for the magnetic levitation system to achieve precise position control in the existence of external disturbance, parameters mismatch with considerable variations and sensor noise in the case, where the full system states are supposed to be unavailable. The observer converges exponentially and leads to good estimate as well as a good track of the steel ball position with the reference trajectory. A simulation results are provided to show the excellent performance of the designed controller.

Opis:
In this paper, we propose sensorless backstepping control of a double-star induction machine (DSIM). First, the backstepping approach is designed to steer the flux and speed variables to their references and to compensate uncertainties. Lyapunov”s theory is used and it demonstrates that the dynamic tracking of trajectories tracking is asymptotically stable. Second, unfortunately, this law control called sophisticated is a major problem which leads to the necessity of using a mechanical sensor (speed, load torque). This imposes an additional cost and increases the complexity of the montage. In practice, this variable is unknown and its measurement is expensive. To restrain this problem we estimate speed and load torque by using a Luenberger observer (LO). Simulation results are provided to illustrate the performance of the proposed approach in high and low variable speeds and load torque disturbance.

The paper presents the method of control of an induction squirrel-cage machine supplied by a voltage source converter. The presented idea is based on an innovative method of the voltage source converter control, consisting in direct joining of the motor control system with the voltage source rectifier control system. The combined control system gives good dc-bus voltage stabilization. In the applied control system the limits of the reference variables have been introduced. A correction of the estimated machine load torque is proposed. The new proposed solutions are confirmed by mathematical dependences, simulation and experimental results.

This paper announces an eight-term novel 3-D jerk chaotic system with three quadratic nonlinearities. The phase portraits of the novel jerk chaotic system are displayed and the qualitative properties of the jerk system are described. The novel jerk chaotic system has two equilibrium points, which are saddle-foci and unstable. The Lyapunov exponents of the novel jerk chaotic system are obtained as L1 = 0.20572, L2 = 0 and L3 = −1.20824. Since the sum of the Lyapunov exponents of the jerk chaotic system is negative, we conclude that the chaotic system is dissipative. The Kaplan-Yorke dimension of the novel jerk chaotic system is derived as DKY = 2.17026. Next, an adaptive controller is designed via backstepping control method to globally stabilize the novel jerk chaotic system with unknown parameters. Moreover, an adaptive controller is also designed via backstepping control method to achieve global chaos synchronization of the identical jerk chaotic systems with unknown parameters. The backstepping control method is a recursive procedure that links the choice of a Lyapunov function with the design of a controller and guarantees global asymptotic stability of strict feedback systems. MATLAB simulations have been depicted to illustrate the phase portraits of the novel jerk chaotic system and also the adaptive backstepping control results.

In commercial Dynamic Positioning systems is still used PID control, despite a significant increase in the level of automation. To improve the quality of the positioning of the vessel may allow the use of more effective methods and algorithms, providing advanced nonlinear control techniques. The problem of synthesis a dynamic positioning system for surface vessel with uncertainties was considered in this paper. In practice, both the dynamics of a dynamically positioned vessel as well as environmental disturbances affecting on a hull are not precisely known, as a result of the changing operating conditions and the sea states. The article presents the problem of position and heading controller design by vectorial adaptive backstepping methods. The dynamic positioning vessel with parametric model uncertainties associated with hydrodynamic forces damping, low-speed ship and in the presence of waves disturbances was used. Comparison of the system with uncertainties and assuming precise knowledge of ship model was carried out. Finally simulations results demonstrate similar results in both cases. Adaptive controller follows desired trajectory with small neighborhood. All signals in the closed-loop DP control system are bounded.

This paper investigates the backstepping control design with novel feedback input approach for controlling chaotic systems to guarantee the complete synchronization as well as the anti-synchronization of chaotic systems, viz. n-scroll Chua (K. Wallace et.al. 2001) and Lur’e chaotic systems. Our theorems on hybrid synchronization for n-scroll Chua and Lur’e (J.Suyken et.al. 1997) chaotic systems is established using Lyapunov stability theory. Based on the Lyapunov function, the backstepping control is determined to tune the controller gain based on the precalculated feedback control inputs. The backstepping scheme is recursive procedure that links the choice of a Lyapunov function with the design of a controller and guarantees global stability performance of strict-feedback chaotic systems. Since the Lyapunov exponents are not required for these calculations, the backstepping control method is effective and convenient to synchronize the chaotic systems. Mainly this technique gives the flexibility to construct a control law. Numerical simulations are also given to illustrate and validate the hybrid synchronization results derived in this paper.

Opis:
In this paper an application of the Serret-Frenet parametrization of a curve to the path following task is presented. This curvilinear parametrization method is used to obtain a control object description relative to the desired curve defined in the three-dimensional space. In order to derive proper equations, the innovative approach of the non-orthogonal projection of a control object on the given path is investigated. The non-orthogonal projection allows to design a global control algorithm. The proposed solution results in a cascade structure of the control system. Thus, the backstepping integrator algorithm was applied to create a control law. Due to the partial knowledge of control object dynamic parameters, an adaptive algorithm is taken into account. Theoretical considerations are confirmed with simulation study. Conducted simulations illustrated following paths at different levels of complexity by a holonomic non-redundant manipulator with a fixed base.

The results show that the equivalent moment of inertia is increased by 5 times, and the step response overshoot of the speed system is 4.1%. By adding a random disturbance, the sinusoidal tracking errors of the speed and torque systems are 0.05 r/min and 0.09Nm, respectively.

A novel 4-D chaotic hyperjerk system with four quadratic nonlinearities is presented in this work. It is interesting that the hyperjerk system has no equilibrium. A chaotic attractor is said to be a hidden attractor when its basin of attraction has no intersection with small neighborhoods of equilibrium points of the system. Thus, our new non-equilibrium hyperjerk system possesses a hidden attractor. Chaos in the system has been observed in phase portraits and verified by positive Lyapunov exponents. Adaptive backstepping controller is designed for the global chaos control of the non-equilibrium hyperjerk system with a hidden attractor. An electronic circuit for realizing the non-equilibrium hyperjerk system is also introduced, which validates the theoretical chaotic model of the hyperjerk system with a hidden chaotic attractor.

Direct torque control (DTC) allows for very high quality torque control without a need for current controllers tuning or using coordinate transformation. However, barge torque ripples arise as well as inconstant inverter switching frequency due to the hysteresis of comparators. This paper present a backstepping/DTC control based on the space vector modulation (SVPWM) for double star synchronous machine (DSSM) to reduce the torque, flux, current and speed pulsations during steady state. By the coordinate transformation the DSSM models are presented in view of control. Then a conventional DTC is developed to get a decoupled system and a PI controller is designed to control the speed. To improve the static and dynamic control performance of the DSSM, the speed controller is designed using a backstepping/DTC procedure in conjunction with SVPWM. Simulation results with the conventional DTC and proposed backstepping/DTC are presented and compared. Results show the effectiveness and the robustness of the approach proposed.

Photovoltaic (PV) system generates renewable energy from sunlight, which has low efficiency due to the variance in nature of temperature and irradiance in a fast changing environment condition. Different researchers have proposed different maximum power point tracking MPPT techniques to improve the efficiency. However, still there are many open issues. Thus, to address this, a non-linear back-stepping-based higher order sliding mode controller (BHOSMC) is proposed to harvest maximum power from PV system. The PV module and load is interfaced by a non-inverted buck-boost converter (NIBBC). A linear interpolation method is used for voltage generation and Lyapunov stability is used to verify the control system equation. MATLAB/Simulink software is used for testing the proposed controller performance. The experimental result verified that the proposed BHOSMC is robust, accurate and fast tracking, faultless and less chattering as compared to perturb and observe (P&O), back-stepping control (BSC) and back-stepping-based sliding mode control under rapidly varying meteorological condition.

(1, 2) (Fig. 1) and a control algorithm (3-16) stabilizing the liquid level x2 on setpoint y. The Lyapunov method was used for deriving control laws. The complete control algorithm with parameter adaptation rules for adjustment of the valves characteristics (Fig. 2) is given by (17-22, 24). Parameters k1 and k2 used in the algorithm were tuned in Simulink. The simulation results are shown in Figs. 3, 4. The real time results (Figs. 5, 6) prove the algorithm effectiveness and confirm usability of its implementation in a DCS controller. The Simulink file, the control program for a controller VE3006 realized in the environment DeltaV (fhx) and screen shots showing that implementation of the described control is not a difficult task, are available at: http://zts.p.lodz.pl/zasoby/marcinjastrzebski/pak2011.zip.

The article discusses the problem of designing a proper and efficient adaptive course-keeping control system for a seagoing ship based on the adaptive backstepping method. The proposed controller in the design stage takes into account the dynamic properties of the steering gear and the full nonlinear static maneuvering characteristic. The adjustable parameters of the achieved nonlinear control structure were tuned up by using the genetic algorithm in order to optimize the system performance. A realistic full-scale simulation model of the B-481 type vessel including wave and wind effects was applied to simulate the control algorithm by using time domain analysis.

Opis:
This paper presents a method for the cooperative formation control of a group of underactuated USVs. The problem of formation control is first converted to one of stabilisation control of the tracking errors of the follower USVs using system state transformation design. The followers must keep a fixed distance from the leader USV and a specific heading angle in order to maintain a certain type of formation. A global differential homeomorphism transformation is then designed to create a tracking error system for the follower USVs, in order to simplify the description of the control system. This makes the complex formation control system easy to analyse, and allows it to be decomposed into a cascaded system. In addition, several intermediate state variables and virtual control laws are designed based on nonlinear backstepping, and actual control algorithms for the follower USVs to control the surge force and yaw moment are presented. A global system that can ensure uniform asymptotic stability of the USVs’ cooperative formation control is achieved by combining Lyapunov stability theory and cascade system theory. Finally, several simulation experiments are carried out to verify the validity, stability and reliability of our cooperative formation control method.

A mathematical model of a 4-wheel skid-steering mobile robot is presented in a systematic way. The robot is considered as a subsystem consisting of kinematic, dynamic and drive levels. Next, a designing process of a kinematic controller based on the algorithm introduced by (Dixon et al., 2001) is shown. An extension of the kinematic control law at the dynamic and motor levels using the Lyapunov analysis and the backstepping technique is developed. To validate the designed algorithm, extensive simulation results for trajectory tracking and set-point cases are discussed. Some deliberations concerning the tuning of the controller are presented, too.

Opis:
In this paper, an adaptive fuzzy robust output feedback control approach is proposed for a class of single input single output (SISO) strict-feedback nonlinear systems without measurements of states. The nonlinear systems addressed in this paper are assumed to possess unstructured uncertainties, unmodeled dynamics and dynamic disturbances, where the unstructured uncertainties are not linearly parameterized, and no prior knowledge of their bounds is available. In recursive design, fuzzy logic systems are used to approximate unstructured uncertainties, and K-filters are designed to estimate unmeasured states. By combining backstepping design and a small-gain theorem, a stable adaptive fuzzy output feedback control scheme is developed. It is proven that the proposed adaptive fuzzy control approach can guarantee the all the signals in the closed-loop system are uniformly ultimately bounded, and the output of the controlled system converges to a small neighborhood of the origin. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is illustrated by a simulation example and some comparisons.

As an object of course control, the ship is characterised by a nonlinear function describing static manoeuvring characteristics that reflect the steady-state relation between the rudder deflection and the rate of turn of the hull. One of the methods which can be used for designing a nonlinear ship course controller is the backstepping method. It is used here for designing two configurations of nonlinear controllers, which are then applied to ship course control. The parameters of the obtained nonlinear control structures are tuned to optimise the operation of the control system. The optimisation is performed using genetic algorithms. The quality of operation of the designed control algorithms is checked in simulation tests performed on the mathematical model of a tanker. In order to obtain reference results to be used for comparison with those recorded for nonlinear controllers designed using the backstepping method, a control system with the PD controller is examined as well.

Opis:
This paper presents a comparative study between the conventional PI (Proportional Integral) and backstepping controllers applied to the DFIG (Doubly Fed Induction Generator) used in WECS (Wind Energy Conversion System). These two different control strategies proposed in this work are developed to control the active and reactive power of the DFIG on the one hand, and to maintain the DC-link voltage constant for the inverting function on the other hand. This is ensured by generating control signals for two power electronic converters, RSC (Rotor Side Converter) and GSC (Grid Side Converter). In order to optimise the power production in the WT (Wind Turbine), an MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking) algorithm is applied along with each control technique. To simulate the effectiveness of the proposed controllers, MATLAB/Simulink Software is used, and the obtained results are analysed and discussed to compare PI and backstepping controllers in terms of robustness against wind speed variations and tracking performance in dynamic and steady states.

Opis:
The path following control problem of the underactuated unmanned surface vessel (USV) is studied in this paper. An improved line-of-sight (LOS) guidance algorithm is proposed which can adjust adaptively based on the path following error. The global asymptotically stable path following controller is designed based on the nonlinear backstepping method and the Lyapunov stability theory. Firstly, the USV path following error model is established in the Serret-Frenet (SF) coordinate frame. The path following error in the inertial coordinate frame is transformed into the SF coordinate frame, which is used to define the path following control problem. Secondly, inspired by the traditional LOS guidance algorithm, the longitudinal path following error in the SF coordinate frame is introduced into the improved LOS guidance algorithm. This allows the algorithm to adjust adaptively to the desired path. Thirdly, in order to solve the underactuated problem of the USV path following control system, the tangential velocity of the desired path is designed as a virtual input. The underactuated problem is converted to a virtual fully actuated problem by designing the virtual control law for the tangential velocity. Finally, by combining backstepping design principles and the Lyapunov stability theory, the longitudinal thrust control law and the yaw torque control law are designed for the underactuated USV. Meanwhile, the global asymptotic stability of the path following error is proved. Simulation experiments demonstrate the effectiveness and reliability of the improved LOS guidance algorithm and the path following controller.

The control of the doubly-fed induction motor is a complex operation because of this motor characterised by a non-linear multivariable dynamics, having settings that change over time and a significant link between the mechanical component and magnetic behavior (flux) (speed and couple). This article then proposes a new strategy of a robust control of this motor, which is decoupled due to the stator flux’s direction. The proposed control is integrated with the backstepping control which based on Lyapunov theory; this approach consists in constructively designing a control law of nonlinear systems by considering some state variables as being virtual commands, and the important branch of artificial intelligence type-2 fuzzy logic. The hybrid control backstepping-fuzzy logic consists in replacing the regulators applied to the backstepping control by regulators based on type-2 fuzzy logic. This control will be evaluated by numerous simulations where there is a parametric and non-parametric variation.

Due to high performance demands of grid-connected pulse-width modulation (PWM) converters in power applications, backstepping control (BSC) has drawn wide research interest for its advantages, including high robustness against parametric variations and external disturbances. In order to guarantee these advantages while providing high static and dynamic responses, in this work, a robust BSC (RBSC) with consideration of grid-connected PWM converter parameter uncertainties is proposed for three-phase grid-connected four-leg voltage source rectifiers (GC-FLVSR). The proposed RBSC for GC-FLVSR is composed of four independent controllers based on the Lyabonov theory that control DC bus voltage and input currents simultaneously. As a result, unit power factor, stable DC-bus voltage, sinusoidal four-leg rectifier input currents with lower harmonics and zero-sequence (ZS), and natural currents can be accurately achieved. Furthermore, the stability and robustness against load, DC capacitor, and filter inductance variations can be tested. The effectiveness and superiority of the proposed RBSC compared to the PI control (PIC) have been validated by processor-in-the-loop (PIL) co-simulation using the STM32F407 discovery-development-board as an experimental study.

Opis:
The wind energy conversion systems (WECS) suffer from an intermittent nature of source (wind) and the resulting disparity between power generation and electricity demand. Thus, WECS are required to be operated at maximum power point (MPP). This research paper addresses a sophisticated MPP tracking (MPPT) strategy to ensure optimum (maximum) power out of the WECS despite environmental (wind) variations. This study considers a WECS (fixed pitch, 3KW, variable speed) coupled with a permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) and proposes three sliding mode control (SMC) based MPPT schemes, a conventional first order SMC (FOSMC), an integral back-stepping-based SMC (IBSMC) and a super-twisting reachability-based SMC, for maximizing the power output. However, the efficacy of MPPT/control schemes rely on availability of system parameters especially, uncertain/nonlinear dynamics and aerodynamic terms, which are not commonly accessible in practice. As a remedy, an off-line artificial function-fitting neural network (ANN) based on Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm is employed to enhance the performance and robustness of MPPT/control scheme by effectively imitating the uncertain/nonlinear drift terms in the control input pathways. Furthermore, the speed and missing derivative of a generator shaft are determined using a high-gain observer (HGO). Finally, a comparison is made among the stated strategies subjected to stochastic and deterministic wind speed profiles. Extensive MATLAB/Simulink simulations assess the effectiveness of the suggested approaches.
