    The article analyzes the alienation of the main character of the manga series Death Note, who owns the Death Notebook referred to in the title. The said notebook allows to kill any person. Drawing upon the theses of Michel Foucault related to the rights of monarchs of bygone times to condemn individuals to death, and to ritualizing death itself, the author of the article shows Kira as a continuator of the said monarchs. The motif of death from the hands of another person is indicated as a form of revenge for harms suffered by one, based on considerations by Jean Baudrillard. The text also aims to show that comic books are not just entertainment for the masses, but can convey serious content instead.

    The use of social media (SM) is prevalent not only in private, but also in professional areas, and its overall involvement in our lives has grown immensely over the past decade. According to Bishop (2018), this is a phenomenon unlike anything seen throughout history. Previous studies on SM have analysed this subject unilaterally – giving greater emphasis to the positive or negative impact on its users. This novel article analyses the problem of the co-existence of opposing emotions towards SM based on the example of Facebook. Data from 274 young respondents (since teenagers and young adults spend on average 2–3 hours a day connected to SM sites, more so than other groups) (Healey, 2017), were collected on various areas of SM usage perception. The results present the existence of ambivalent attitudes towards Facebook threefold: as a place for building relationships, as a source of knowledge about the life of friends, and as a source of information. The article raises doubt as to what extent SM has an impact on their users in the future. The issue of SM affecting the user (no matter their age) generally focuses on the negative aspects (SM are being blamed for increasing mental health problems among young people) (Girl Effect team, 2018); therefore, the fidings here suggest that a balanced perspective is required, also including some positive aspects.

    Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie i analiza pojęcia ambiwalencji w kontekście badań socjologicznych, w tym eksploracji obszaru życia rodzinnego. Ambiwalencja to termin pochodzący z psychiatrii oraz psychoanalizy, spopularyzowany w socjologii przez Roberta K. Mertona i Elinor Barber. W tekście opisano sens pojęcia ambiwalencji w kontekście socjologii oraz ewolucję tej kategorii od ambiwalencji socjologicznej do ambiwalencji strukturalnej. Dodatkowo, autorka wykorzystuje kategorię ambiwalencji w analizie wyników badania praktyk rodzinnych i rodzicielskich, opisując dwa przykłady: ambiwalencję widoczną w zestawieniu oczekiwań rodziców wobec dzieci z codziennymi doświadczeniami dorosłych oraz ambiwalentny stosunek rodziców do urządzeń elektronicznych używanych przez dzieci. Podstawowe pytanie, które stawiane jest w artykule, brzmi: co nowego kategoria ambiwalencji wnosi do analiz prowadzonych w ramach socjologii życia rodzinnego.
    The aim of the article is to present and analyze the concept of ambivalence in the context of sociological research, particularly in the studies of family life. Derived from psychiatry and psychoanalysis, the notion of ambivalence has been popularized in sociology by Robert K. Merton and Elinor Barber. The article discusses the meaning of ambivalence as a sociological concept as well as the development of this category (from sociological to structural ambivalence). Additionally, the author uses the category of ambivalence to analyze the findings of the study on family and parental practices. The ambivalence appears in the juxtaposition of parents’ expectations towards children and adults’ everyday experiences as well as in the ambivalent of parents’ attitude to the electronic devices used by their children. The article aims to answer the key question of what the category of ambivalence contributes to the sociology of family life.

    Opis:
    Western society and its fi ction faces the overwhelming problem of masculinity and its modeling. The era of war, capitalism, the challenges of feminism aff ect the ideology within which men are constructed both as individuals and as a social group. John Fowles’s fi ction tackles the crucial issue of male power and control as masculinity is put to test and trial in his 1965 novel The Magus. The defi nition of manhood, male virility and social respectability of the period shape the 20th century male characters in Fowles’s fi ction. This paper aims to explore how John Fowles investigates the role of masculinity and power myths on the personal level of relationship and a wider scale of war and capitalism in The Magus. Notions of masculinity off er the protagonist, Nicholas Urfe, a sense of a superiority and power over women in the course of the novel. Among the goals of the project is to examine the mythical journey of Nicholas, which becomes a testing ground of his masculinity and maturity, as well his trial and ‘disintoxication,’ which is intended to help him to reevaluate his life and his relationships with women. One of the issues posed is whether Nicholas Urfe is reborn as a new man at the end of his search for redemption or if he remains the same egotistic, ‘lone wolf’ as he appears in the beginning of the novel.

    The starting point for this research is the crisis in discourse and pedagogy related to the representation of the Holocaust, as well as the crisis of empathy in its perception, signaled by, among others, Ernst van Alphen. With the passage of time increasing numbers of representations appear that push the boundaries of inappropriateness, requiring new approaches and new scientific findings. The Czech playwright Arnošt Goldflam, a representative of the second generation of survivors and at the same time an artist associated with the independent culture of the 1960s and 1970s, uses the category of ambivalence in his plays about the Holocaust, which may be considered as flirting with inappropriate representations of Shoah, leading to a convincing attempt to overcome its crisis.

    Sexuality is most natural and healthy when it is part of an emotionally genuine relationship, not even as its central part but rather as an upgrade of the intimacy of two people who are mutually loyal, committed, loving and respectful. However, if an individual was sexually abused in childhood, they may have suffered the severest consequences of sexual abuse trauma in the area of sexuality, and their experience of sexuality will be completely different from those who were not sexually abused. The article first describes what children learn about sex if they have been sexually abused, as this experience is very much related to the most common behaviours and experiences in adult sexuality. Then we present a theoretical overview of research on sexuality in adults who suffered childhood sexual abuse. The theory will be supplemented and supported by the statements of individuals who have been attending a therapeutic group for the sexually abused in childhood for two years. The statements quoted in the article refer to the period prior to the therapeutic process. Clinical experience shows that, until the victim has resolved the trauma of sexual abuse, the dynamics between the offender and the victim during childhood abuse is most often very similar to the dynamics of the abused with their partner, even in their sexual life.

    The following article is an attempt to demonstrate Dostoyevsky’s philosophy of man. In this framework two categories seems most important: ambivalence and mystery. The picture of a man in Dostoyevsky’s novels is full of ambiguities, contradictories, paradoxes and – seeming – lack of logical senses. There is no total definition of a man, because he’s a big enigma. A man is not a monolith, he contains full of different existential and psychological areas. A man doesn’t have any ontological score, which would can to name and to determine him – particular, to name and to determine him unambiguously and permanently. An existence is a task. Can this diversity in a man integrated? Can the mystery of a man illuminate? It seems that Dostoyevsky sees only one solution: the Christianity.
    Niniejszy artykuł jest próbą ukazania głównych kategorii antropologicznych w literackiej twórczości Fiodora Dostojewskiego, wśród których tajemnica i ambiwalencja wydają się kategoriami najważniejszymi. Obraz człowieka w powieściach Dostojewskiego jest pełen sprzeczności, paradoksów i logicznych wykluczeń. Nie ma tu jakiejś ostatecznej definicji istoty ludzkiej, ponieważ jest ona zagadką. Istota ta nie jest bowiem jakimś monolitem – mieści w sobie rozmaite obszary egzystencjalne i psychologiczne. Przede wszystkim jednak nie przysługuje jej żaden ontologiczny rdzeń, któryby ją ostatecznie określał i determinował. Egzystencja jest zadaniem. Czy tę różnorodność da się scalić? Czy da się rozświetlić tę tajemnicę? U Dostojewskiego odpowiedzi należy szukać w chrześcijaństwie.

    Le Roman de Silence Heldris’a de Cornouailles ukazuje niejednoznaczną postać Silence, dziewczynki wychowanej jako chłopiec, który/a staje się później dzielnym rycerzem i doskonałym żonglerem. Nie sposób jej jednoznacznie skategoryzować, dlatego szczególnie ciekawe wydaje się spojrzenie na Silence przez pryzmat gender studies i teorii queer. Żyjąc w świecie męskiej dominacji i dychotomicznych podziałów, Silence nie jest w pełni ani mężczyzną, ani kobietą. Gry językowe oraz niekonsekwentnie zmienne zastosowanie męskich i żeńskich zaimków przez autora wzmagają wrażenie wieloznaczności bohatera/ki, który/a niejednokrotnie afirmuje swoją męską tożsamość. Z punktu widzenia społeczeństwa, istotny jest jednak powrót do status quo i jasne określenie tożsamości bohatera/ki. Silence musi stać się kobietą i żoną.

    The article analyzes the image of Vienna in the life and works of a famous 20th century Austrian writer I. Bachmann on the basis of her story The Thirtieth Year (Das dreißigste Jahr). It underlines the ambivalent attitude of the author and the main character of the story towards the city of their youth and regards it as the dominant characteristic of the text. The past, which reminds of itself especially with the bothersome and all-knowing figure of Moll, does not allow the protagonist to establish communication with Vienna, which in turn affects the overall reception of the city.

    The aim of this article is to present the concept of intergenerational education in Germany in the context of the solidarity idea. As challenge for intergenerational education the authoress describes the demographic change in Germany and their consequences for intergenerational relationships. So one of the main aims of the intergenerational education is to build positive relationships between different generations. The intergenerational relationships are describes in the article both in the micro dimension (family) and in the macro dimension (society). Then the authoress presents the idea of solidarity, which is the base of the intergenerational education concept. In conclusion she underlines, that for intergenerational relationships is ambivalence typical and the building of positive relations between generations requires to manage with ambivalence. Solidarity can be an effect of constructive managing with ambivalence in intergenerational relations.

    Celem szkicu jest charakterystyka paradygmatu dwoistości, stanowiącego „nowego typu złożoność, obecną w konkretnych tekstach ważnych dla teorii i praktyki społecznej” (Witkowski 2013: 44) o źródłach głównie socjologicznych (Merton, Elias). Lech Witkowski stawia tezę, iż pedagogika dzięki temu paradygmatowi „osiągnęła możliwość bycia dyscypliną dojrzałą, która będzie mogła sprostać możliwości dyskursu i badań” (tamże: 64) i ilustruje jego przydatność w pedagogice analizami dorobku ważnych międzywojennych polskich pedagogów. Paradygmat dwoistości nie jest tożsamy z postmodernistycznym relatywizmem moralnym i nie deprecjonuje świata wartości. Może nawet być podstawą etyczności tam, gdzie „istnieje pole oscylacji między wartościami przeciwstawnymi, a mimo to obligującymi (Maliszewski 2013: 41). Szczególnie przydatna może być ta perspektywa w pedeutologii i dydaktyce szkoły wyższej, dzięki wyposażeniu studentów w zdolność dostrzegania i akceptowania ambiwalencji ich przyszłych ról zawodowych jako cechy sytuacji wychowawczych oraz składnika ich kultury intelektualnej.
    The aim of the paper is to describe the paradigm of duality being „a new type of complexity, present in specific texts that are important both for theory and social practice” (Witkowski 2013:44) and having mainly social roots (Merton, Elias). Lech Witkowski argues that pedagogy, thanks to the said paradigm, „has become capable of being a mature discipline which will be able to handle discourse and research” (Witkowski 2013: 64) and illustrates its usefulness for pedagogy by analyzing the major achievements of the Polish inter-war pedagogues. The paradigm of duality is not identical with the postmodern moral relativism and does not depreciate the world of values. It may even constitute the core of ethics where „there is a space for oscillation between conflicting and yet obligating values” (Maliszewski, 2013:41). This approach may be particularly useful in pedeutology and academic teaching, since it can provide students with an ability to perceive and accept the ambivalence of their future professional roles as being a feature of educational circumstances and a component of their intellectual culture.

Gniteckiego można wskazać kilka obszarów badań, które mieszczą się w pojęciu filozofii edukacji − antropologia i aksjologia pedagogiczna, metodologia badań pedagogicznych, komparatystyka edukacyjna. W jego ujęciu pedagogika otrzymuje specyficzną wykładnię, zgodnie z którą jest ona metarefleksją i metanarracją obejmującą przestrzeń ludzkiej egzystencji i esencji, a więc w całości mieści się w ramach filozofii wychowania. Istotnym wkładem tego filozofa i pedagoga jest opracowanie i zastosowanie w badaniach pedagogicznych kategorii ambiwalencji, której ten artykuł jest poświęcony.
    In the work of Janusz Gnitecki one can point to several areas of research that fall within the notion of the philosophy of education – anthropology and pedagogical axiology, methodology of pedagogical research, educational comparative studies. In his view pedagogy receives a specific interpretation according to which it is a meta-reflection and meta-narrative covering the space of human existence and essence and thus it falls entirely within the philosophy of education. An important contribution of this philosopher and teacher is the development and application of the ambivalence category in pedagogical research, to which this article is devoted.

    In Zygmunt Bauman’s work, ambivalence was a topic that recurred explicitly several times in his analyses of modernity and later liquid modernity. This was particularly evident in his book Modernity and Ambivalence (1991). But ambivalence also appears as an underlying theme in later books on life in liquid-modern society. Moreover, Bauman’s sociological perspective itself oozes ambivalence, and many of the topics he explored and embraced throughout his career – such as freedom, morality, immortality and utopia – are themselves fundamental expressions of ambivalence. In addition, Bauman always insisted that the world is not fixed once and for all, but that humans can challenge and change it, and in this way ambivalence is not an ailment to be cured but rather a fact to be accepted. This article explores the theme and leitmotif of ambivalence in the writings of Bauman. The article seeks to provide a concise presentation and discussion of Bauman’s continuous engagement with ambivalence in order to show that sociology perhaps ought to take the topic of ambivalence more seriously than is currently the case.
    W pracach Zygmunta Baumana problematyka ambiwalencji raz po raz wyraziście zaznacza swoją obecność w analizach nowoczesności, a następnie płynnej nowoczesności. Wprawdzie szczególnie poczesne miejsce zajmuje ona w jego książce Modernity and Ambivalence z roku 1991 (wyd. pol. Wieloznaczność nowoczesna. Nowoczesność wieloznaczna, 1995), lecz wątek ambiwalencji przewija się także w późniejszych książkach Baumana poświęconych życiu w społeczeństwie płynnej nowoczesności. Co więcej, socjologiczna perspektywa przyjęta przez Baumana jako taka przepojona jest ambiwalencją, a wiele zagadnień, którymi pasjonował się i które zgłębiał w całej swojej twórczości – na przykład, wolność, moralność, nieśmiertelność lub utopia – same w sobie ucieleśniają ambiwalencję. Bauman zawsze podkreślał, że kształt świata nie jest niezmienny czy ustanowiony raz na zawsze, a ludzie mogą podważać go i przeobrażać. Ambiwalencja zatem jest nie tyle bolączką, którą należałoby leczyć, ile raczej faktem, który trzeba zaakceptować. Niniejszy artykuł poświęcony jest tematyce ambiwalencji jako lejtmotywowi pism Baumana. Autor pokrótce kreśli i omawia ciągłą refleksję Baumana nad ambiwalencją, aby wskazać, że zagadnieniem tym socjologia być może powinna zająć się z większą uwagą niż dotychczas.

    Artykuł poświęcony jest krytycznej analizie teorii kultury Zygmunta Baumana, rozwijanej przez niego przed Marcem 1968 roku. Problematyka ta zaczęła zajmować w jego twórczości miejsce centralne w czasie, gdy został kierownikiem Katedry Socjologii Ogólnej na Uniwersytecie Warszawskim. Obok wielu artykułów Bauman poświęcił jej wówczas dwie książki: Kultura i społeczeństwo. Preliminaria oraz Szkice z teorii kultury. Pierwsza została wydana w roku 1966, a drugą z nakazu władz wycofano z druku i zniszczono jako element represji wymierzonych w autora w związku z wydarzeniami marcowymi. Niedawne odnalezienie niepełnego egzemplarza korektowego tej pracy, jej rekonstrukcja i publikacja – opatrzona napisanym po latach, odautorskim posłowiem – dają wreszcie podstawę do pełnej analizy wczesnej teorii kultury Baumana. Refleksja ta pozwoli przybliżyć słabo znany, a bardzo istotny – tak dla autora, jak i dla dyscypliny przez niego reprezentowanej – okres jego twórczości. Umożliwi ona także zdobycie cennej perspektywy do analizy jego późniejszych prac, ponieważ – jak tego dowiodę – wiele koncepcji, które wypracował on przed laty, było zalążkiem jego rozpoznań na temat transformacji nowoczesności. Artykuł został podzielony na dwie części. W pierwszej przedstawiam spojrzenie Baumana na kulturę jako na mechanizm redukcji wieloznaczności. Unaoczniam w niej inspiracje, jakie czerpał on w tej materii z różnych nurtów rozwijanych na gruncie socjologii i antropologii, ale przede wszystkim wskazuję na oryginalność jego teoretycznych propozycji. Część druga została poświęcona refleksjom socjologa na temat kultury jako procesu proliferacji ambiwalencji. Ów był jego zdaniem signum specificum kultury zachodniej drugiej połowy XX wieku i wyrażał się między innymi w zjawiskach: indywidualizacji, globalizacji i pluralizacji kulturowej.
    The paper presents a critical analysis of Zygmunt Bauman’s theory of culture before March 1968. Culture became a central issue in his sociology when he held a position as a chair of the Department of General Sociology at the Warsaw University. He wrote several articles on this topic and two books: Culture and Society: Preliminaries and Sketches on the Theory of Culture. The former one was published in 1966; the print run of the latter was destroyed after Bauman’s expulsion from the University of Warsaw in March 1968. The only one remaining copy of the latter one – to be precise: a major part of the editor’s copy – has been recently found, reconstructed and published together with an author’s afterword. This gave an opportunity to make – for the first time – a comprehensive analysis of Bauman’s early theory of culture. This analysis sheds new light on all his work, as the ways he was interpreting the transformations of modernity in the last decades had its beginnings in his papers written in the sixties of the XX century. The paper is divided in two parts. The first one presents Bauman’s interpretation of culture as a mechanism of reduction of ambivalence. It discusses both his inspirations on the field of sociology and anthropology of culture, as well as originality of his own theoretical concepts. The second part presents Bauman’s vision of culture as a process of proliferation of ambivalence. As far as he was concerned this process was a signum specificum of the western culture in the second part of the XX century. Bauman discussed its following phenomena: individualisation, globalisation and cultural pluralism.

    The article centers around Bauman’s category of uncertainty and presents its ethical and anthropological contexts. The author also makes an attempt to set human drama in onthological sphere. Post-modern man is deprived of solid moral indicators and has constant doubts about the rightness of his choices. Ethical-anthropological uncertainty is a sign of onthological instability and it seems to be the consequence of absurd and irrationality immanent to Bauman’s structure of being. Polish post-modernist does not say much explicite about being which is undoubtedly aporetical.

    The article examines the relation between transhumanism and the notion of corporeity. The author presents six approaches to corporeity according to Tom Ziemke, including those which are favorable to the transhumanist vision of the future. Then the author examines the role of the human body in the transhumanist project of the posthuman. In the last, central section it is argued that transhumanism displays an ambivalent view towards corporeity.

    W artykule analizujemy pojęcie opieki nieformalnej nad osobami starszymi jako dynamiczny proces o charakterze instrumentalnym (zmienne zestawy czynności, miejsc i powiązań interpersonalnych) i emocjonalnym. Wskazujemy, że współcześnie opieka nieformalna dla opiekuna staje się ryzykiem, którego nie antycypują w adekwatny sposób polityki społeczne w krajach naszego kontynentu. Dodatkowo, w państwach posttransformacyjnych poleganie na krewnych i wykorzystywanie sieci społecznych jest często jedyną dostępną i konieczną strategią radzenia sobie przez seniora z deprywacją potrzeb – w obliczu doznawanego ubóstwa i słabości instytucjonalnego wsparcia. Zmiany socjo-kulturowe i demograficzne wskazują jednak na wzrost znaczenia emocji i dyktowanych nimi wyborów w podejmowaniu trudu opieki nad osobami starszymi. Zmieniają się relacje międzypokoleniowe, które coraz częściej będą miały charakter ambiwalentny.
    The paper analyzes the term of informal caregiving for frail older adults as a dynamic process of both instrumental (unsettled activity sets, places and interpersonal connections) and emotional character. We depict informal caregiver’s “social” risk as inadequately anticipated by social policies in Europe. In post-transformational countries relying on kin and social networks is generally the solely accessible and necessary strategy to adapt by frail older adult in the face of needs’ deprivation – a consequence of poverty and weakness of institutional support. However, sociocultural and demographic changes denote an increase in the meaning of emotions and resulting choices when taking up the strain of caregiving for frail older adults. Moreover, dynamic intergenerational relations are about to be of more and more ambivalent nature.

    Artykuł poświęcony jest analizie konceptu „woda” w krótkiej prozie słynnego brytyjskiego pisarza polskiego pochodzenia, urodzonego w Ukrainie, Josepha Conrada. Celem badań było opracowanie lingwokognitywnego charakteru konceptu „woda” jako wyznacznika idiostylu autora. Badania potwierdziły, że nowe podejścia naukowe (lingwokognitywne, lingwokulturowe, lingwokonceptualne) otwierają szerokie możliwości głębszego zrozumienia fenomenu Josepha Conrada, pozwalają na rozumienie zarówno postaci samego autora, jak i kluczowych pojęć w jego twórczości w nowej perspektywie. W trakcie analizy ustalono, że koncept „woda” w utworach pisarza jest poznawczo wieloaspektowy, polisemantyczny oraz nacechowany aksjologicznie. O specyfice jego lingwalizacji świadczy rozbudowany system nominacji jego oznaczenia, liczne znaczenia pojęciowe oraz ambiwalentny charakter konceptualizowanego pojęcia, co potwierdza wagę odpowiedniego obrazu w idiostylu pisarza i pomaga czytelnikowi modelować obraz autora, aby uświadomić sobie znaczenie jego życiowego doświadczenia i lepiej zrozumieć przedstawione wydarzenia. Wszystko to daje podstawy do wniosku, że koncept „woda” jest istotną cechą idiostylu pisarza w krótkiej prozie Josepha Conrada.
    The article is devoted to an analysis of the concept of “water” in the short prose of Joseph Conrad – the famous British writer of Polish origin, who was born in Ukraine. The purpose of the study was to research the linguistic and cognitive nature of the concept “water” as an indicator of the author’s individual style. The study confirms that new scientific approaches (linguocognitive, linguocultural, and linguoconceptual) open up wide opportunities for a deeper understanding of the phenomenon of Joseph Conrad and allow a new approach to understanding both the author’s personality and the key concepts in his work. In the course of the analysis, it was found that the concept of “water” in the writer’s works is cognitively multifaceted, polysemantic, and axiologically labeled. The peculiarities of its linguisticization have shown an extensive system of nominations for its designation, numerous conceptual meanings, and the ambivalent nature of the conceptualized concept, which confirms the importance of the corresponding image in the writer’s idiom and helps the reader to model the author’s image, realize the importance of his life experience, and understand the depicted events more deeply. All this gives grounds for the conclusion that the concept of “water” is a relevant feature of the writer’s idiom in Joseph Conrad’s short prose.

    The first part of the paper is a proposition of a replacement of the category ‘intergenerational solidarity’ (which is a rather idealistic, wishful thinking and descriptive term, cumbersome and difficult to use in the changing and complex social environment) with a term ‘intergenerational ambivalence’ as the latter refers to the conflicting expectations, commitments, norms, standards and actions of individual generations and their ambivalence, which, even if they divide the generations, constitute at the same time the essence of the intergenerational relations. Intergenerational ambivalence on the other hand much more precisely than intergenerational solidarity describes the relations between representatives of different generations as it very accurately reflects the specificity of the relations between generations that appear in the postmodern world with its conflicting expectations, as well as because it emphasises that the specificity of each category of generation reflects the ability of its representatives to cope with the contradicting ideas in their relations with older generations, and with ambivalences that are characteristic of a given place and time. The other part of the paper is an attempt to characterise the manner in which ambivalences that permeate the intergenerational relations are articulated in everyday actions, in particular in those realised through material culture, as well as the manner in which the specifics of today’s material culture increases those conflicts.
    Głównym celem pierwszej części artykułu jest zaproponowanie, by zastąpić kategorię „solidarność międzypokoleniowa” (która ma charakter bardzo zideologizowany, bardziej życzeniowy niż opisowy i jest bardzo kłopotliwa do zastosowania w zmiennym, złożonym środowisku społecznym) pojęciem „ambiwalencja międzypokoleniowa”. To ostatnie odnosi się do sprzecznych ze sobą oczekiwań, zobowiązań, norm, działań poszczególnych generacji, do ambiwalencji, które choć dzielą, to jednocześnie stanowią istotę stosunków międzypokoleniowych. Kategoria ta dużo trafniej niż pojęcie solidarności międzypokoleniowej opisuje relacje łączące przedstawicieli poszczególnych pokoleń przede wszystkim dlatego, że bardzo dobrze odzwierciedla specyfikę związków pomiędzy poszczególnymi generacjami, które pojawiają się w ponowoczesnym, pełnym sprzecznych oczekiwań świecie, a także dlatego, że akcentuje ona, iż specyfikę poszczególnych kategorii pokoleniowych określa w dużej mierze to, jak radzą sobie one ze sprzecznościami obecnymi w relacjach ze starszymi generacjami, z ambiwalencjami charakterystycznymi dla określonego czasu i miejsca. Druga część artykułu poświęcona jest próbie scharakteryzowania tego, w jaki sposób ambiwalencje przenikające dziś międzypokoleniowe stosunki artykułują się w codziennych działaniach, przede wszystkim tych realizowanych za pośrednictwem kultury materialnej, a także tego, w jaki sposób współczesna specyfika tej ostatniej takie sprzeczności wzmaga.

    The essay takes up the issue of postcolonial representation in terms of a critique of European modernism that has been symptomatic of much postcolonial theoretical debates in the recent years. It tries to enumerate the epistemic changes within the paradigm of postcolonial theoretical writing that began tentatively with the publication of Edward Said’s Orientalism in 1978 and has taken a curious postmodern turn in recent years with the writings of Gayatri Spivak and Homi Bhabha. The essay primarily focuses on Bhabha’s concepts of ambivalence and mimicry and his politics of theoretical anarchism that take the representation debate to a newer height vis-à-vis modes of religious nationalism and Freudian psychoanalysis. It is interesting to see how Bhabha locates these within a postmodern paradigm.

Jego celem było dokonanie opisu sposobu znaczeń, jakie młodzi rodzice nadają fenomenowi rodzicielstwa, co dla nich znaczy bycie rodzicem. Za twórcami fenomenograficznej metody badań przyjęto epistemologiczne założenie, że nie ma innego świata jak ten, którego człowiek doświadcza. Rodzinę uznano za szczególne miejsce uczenia się i doświadczania świata, które jawi się w świadomości młodych dorosłych jako koncepcja rodzicielstwa. Szczegółowe kategorie opisu, ujawniające koncepcje doświadczania rodzicielstwa okazały się dyskursywne i silnie powiązane z kontekstem. Ewidencyjnie zaznaczyła się kategoria ambiwalencji, co oznacza, że rodzicielstwo rozkłada się między skrajami doświadczenia i znacznie wykracza poza edukacyjny kontekst wychowania. Okoliczności towarzyszące doświadczaniu rodzicielstwa są silnie związane z przekazami kulturowymi wysyłanymi do grup i jednostek przez różnego rodzaju agendy świata społecznego. Nasi rozmówcy okazali się całkowicie w nie uwikłani. Utwierdza to w przekonaniu, że problem praktyki edukacyjnej związanej z doświadczeniem rodzicielstwa lokuje ją w świecie współczesnej kultury, rozdartej wieloznacznością, chaosem zmieniających się ofert, nasyconej złożonością kultury, „odwracalnej”, której treści podlegają ciągłej rekonstrukcji. Dostarcza to istotnych przesłanek do budowania teorii uczenia się przez całe życie.
    This article attempts to present ways of experiencing parenthood among 17 young adults who have become mothers/fathers. The study was carried out using the phenomenographic method, which sought to describe how the young parents gave meanings to the phenomenon of parenthood; what it meant for them to be a parent. Based on the approach designed by the creators of the phenomenographic research method, we made the epistemological assumption that there is no other world besides the one that an individual experiences. A family was recognised as a special place for learning and experiencing the world, which appears to young adults as a concept of parenthood in their consciousness. The detailed categories of description, revealing concepts of experiencing parenthood, proved to be discursive and strongly context-related. There was considerable ambivalence in the findings, indicating that parenthood fluctuates between polar interpretations of experience and significantly goes beyond an educational context of upbringing. The circumstances accompanying experiencing of parenthood are strongly connected with cultural messages conveyed to groups and individuals by various lifeworld agencies: our interviewees proved to be completely embedded in them. Our findings support the hypothesis that the problem of educational practice connected with experiencing parenthood places it in the world of contemporary culture, which is torn apart by ambiguity and chaos of changing offers, as well as complexity-saturated “reversible” culture, the contents of which are subject to constant reconstruction. This provides essential reasons for developing a theory of lifelong learning in the family.

    W artykule poruszono problematykę różnic w tłumaczeniu pojęcia ambidexterity, które utożsamiane jest w polskiej literaturze przedmiotu z takimi terminami jak: oburęczność, dwuzręczność, dwuręczność, ambiwalentność i dualność. Wybór polskojęzycznego terminu ma duże znaczenie dla intuicyjnego zrozumienia zjawiska zarówno przez badaczy, jak i niespecjalistów, w tym praktyków. Celem głównym artykułu jest uporządkowanie kwestii terminologicznych, a w rezultacie zaproponowanie polskojęzycznego tłumaczenia terminu ambidexterity w dyscyplinie nauk o zarządzaniu i jakości w subdyscyplinie zarządzania procesami. W realizacji celu głównego wykorzystano takie metody jak analiza bibliometryczna i przegląd polskiej literatury przedmiotu z wykorzystaniem bazy Publish or Perish. Wyniki badania oraz sformułowane wnioski stanowią wkład w aktualny stan wiedzy dotyczącej dyskusji nad polskim odpowiednikiem terminu ambidexterity. W opinii autorów na płaszczyźnie omawianej problematyki BPM pojęcie, które najpełniej i najdokładniej odzwierciedla kontekst sprzeczności między aktywnościami eksploatacyjnymi i eksploracyjnym w zarządzaniu procesami to dwoistość. Oryginalność artykułu związana jest z choćby częściowym wypełnieniem luki poznawczej dotyczącej niewielkiej liczby publikacji poruszających problematykę integratywnego spojrzenia na ambidexterity i BPM.
    The article addresses the issue of differences in the translation of the term ambidexterity, which is equated in the Polish literature with such terms as ambidextrousness, two-handedness, double-agility, ambivalence, or duality. The choice of the Polish term is of significance for intuitive understanding of this phenomenon by both researchers and non-specialists, including practitioners. The main objective is to systematize the terminological issues and thus propose a Polish translation of the term ambidexterity, in the discipline of management and quality sciences, in the sub-discipline of process management. Methods such as bibliometric analysis and a review of the Polish literature on the subject, using the Publish or Perish database, were used to achieve the main objective. The results of the study and the conclusions formulated contribute to the current knowledge regarding the discussion on the Polish equivalent of the term ambidexterity. In the Authors' opinion, the concept most fully and accurately reflecting the context of the contradiction between exploitative and exploratory activities in process management, within the sphere of the discussed BPM issues, is duality. The article is original in nature because, even if partially, it fills the cognitive gap concerning the sparsity of publications addressing the integrative view of ambidexterity and BPM.

Discovering the psychodynamics of development, their structures and conditions is a serious and engaging study for many addressees: educators, psychologists, sociologists, literary scholars, artists and others.

    Artykuł wprowadza w rozwinięcia wskazujące na ambiwalencje nienasycenia wstrętu w pracach Kristevej, Lacana i Sartre’a z próbą podsumowań dotyczących kontekstów interesujących pedagogikę i psychopedagogikę. Dokonuje się to w następujących krokach, wyrażanych nazwami poszczególnych paragrafów: (1) Wstręt, czyli o rzeczy nienasyconej a nieswoiście Realnej, bo „...jak się zdaje, nadchodzi z zewnątrz lub rozsadza od wewnątrz” i „właściwie nie ma określonego przedmiotu”; (2) Abiektywna matka. Granica i tabu „rzeczy macierzyńskiej”; (3) Nienasycenie wymiotu; (4) Wstręt jako „gwałtowny i mroczny bunt bytu”; (5) Mdłości jako nie dająca się nasycić odmowa bycia. Samobójstwo jako doświadczenie wyobraźni; (6) Niechciana bliskość, natarczywa obecność, nieakceptowana inność... O symbolicznej autokastracji w nienasyconym kole transformacji materii; (7) Nieznośna lepkość bytu. Uścisk, który dopada; (8) Ambiwalencja „okrutnej rozkoszy” wstrętu. Nasycenie jako paradygmat psychopedagogiki wstrętu w dziesięciu otwarciach pedagogicznych (zakończenie).
    The paper introduces contexts indicating ambivalences of insatiability of disgust in works by Kristeva, Lacan and Sartre with an effort to synthetise ideas concerning pedagogy and psycho-pedagogy. It has been made in the following steps, named by the sequence of titles of paragraphs: (1) Disgust, or concerning isatiable Real since „...it seems to appear from outsider or to make the interior explode” and „actually has no definite object”; (2) The abjective mother. The frontier and taboo of a „maternal thing”; (3) insatiability of vomiting; (4) Disgust as „a violent and dark mutiny of being” (5) Naucea as an insatiable refusal to be. Suicide as an experience of imagination; (6) Undesired nearness, an insistient presence, unaccepted otherness... On a symbolic self-castration within insatiable circle of transformation of matter; (7) Unbearable viscosity of being. The embrace that hunts down; (8) The ambivalence of a ‘cruel delight’. Saturation as a paradigm for psychopedagogy of disgust within ten new openings, to conclude.

    The article deals with the problem of meaning of a poetic text of economic, lapidary form devoid of linguistic metaphors, where the construction of expression directly reaches the sense. The style of ostensible redundancy is functional in analytical sentences and repetitions, which is connected with the title Chwila. The intention of stopping the time is expressed by the excess of text form, whose function is global meaning. In the analyzed poetry, the meaning is formed by the style; there is not a subject of description in an ontological sense. The elements of the represented world are incompatible and involve a number of choices or options. The meaning lies beyond the scope of reference of text elements. In Szymborska’s poetry, the meaning is not independent. It is not that she chooses appropriate means of expression for already prepared content; for example, when a lofty style is adapted to serious content, or trivial things are spoken playfully about. In Szymborska’s poetry, it is the other way round; a joke, a witticism is the material of her poetry, but the content is serious and concerns the fundamental problems of existence. The lack of loftiness is balanced by omnipresent irony, and the genius of this poetry is underlain by the simplicity and subtlety of medium, the brilliance of expressions and amazing grammar and style as far as linguistics is concerned.

    Tekst zajmuje się współczesnym sporem w humanistyce o „metawzorce”. Składa się, poza wstępem, z siedmiu bloków rozważań. Po pierwsze, autor określa i zgłasza sprzeciw wobec dominujących wizji strategii poznawczej w humanistyce współczesnej, jako ułomnych wobec złożoności zjawisk i procesów. Po drugie, są nazwane i zakwestionowane jako iluzje przekonania dotyczące doskonałości w dominujących trybach instytucjonalizacji nauki. Po trzecie, omówione zostają przykłady narastania złożoności zjawisk jako wyzwania humanistycznego. Po czwarte, mówi się o pojęciu podwójnych (dual) (dwoistych) procesów w kulturze i praktyce społecznej. Piąty człon rozważań stanowi ilustrację problematyki powracającego niezrównoważenia w strukturze takich procesów i praktyk, akcentując także wagę podejścia ekologicznego z jego nowym pojmowaniem w humanistyce. Szósta część tekstu omawia napięcia między instytucjonalizacją i intelektualizacją dyskursu, w trosce o ich zespalanie w jeden proces. Wreszcie po siódme, zamiast zakończenia autor czyni akcenty w formie posłania dla przyszłości w postulowanej strategii rozwoju i samokształcenia.
    The article discusses the contemporary conflict over “meta-patterns” in the humanities. Aside from the introduction, it consists of seven sections. First, the author presents and objects to the dominant visions of cognitive strategies in contemporary humanities, which are defective when analyzing the complexity of phenomena and processes. Secondly, they are named and questioned as illusions about excellence in the dominant modes of the institutionalization of science. Thirdly, the author discusses examples pertaining to the increasing complexity of phenomena as a humanistic challenge. Fourthly, he refers to the concept of dual processes in culture and social practice. The fifth section illustrates the recurring problem of imbalance in the structure of such processes and practices, also highlighting the importance of an ecological approach, together with its new understanding of the humanities. The sixth section of the article examines the tension between the institutionalization and the intellectualization of discourse, for the sake of uniting them into one process. Finally, instead of a conclusion, in the seventh part the author offers some emphasis in the form of a message for the future in the postulated strategy of development and self-education.

    W listopadzie 2015 roku Zygmunt Bauman obchodził 90. urodziny, będąc przy tym jak zwykle żywotnym, produktywnym i inteligentnym. Po ponad 70 opublikowanych książkach, z których każda analizuje jeden temat i otwiera drzwi na wszystkie strony, jego praca pozostaje istotnym punktem odniesienia w socjologii. Bauman nadal jest jednym z najbardziej elektryzujących socjologów, jednym z najbłyskotliwszych i najbardziej elastycznych myślicieli w swym pokoleniu. Wyjaśnia to, dlaczego niektórzy komentatorzy uznali go za jednego z najważniejszych żyjących socjologów. Gwoli ścisłości, jego prace poddane zostały również zdecydowanej krytyce. Po zarysowaniu rozumowania umniejszających jego dokonania w niniejszym artykule rozwija się myśl, że więcej ona mówi o stanie obecnej kultury w socjologii niż jakości pracy Baumana. Sposób praktykowania swego rzemiosła przez Baumana można uznać za osobliwy, nie jest on jednak w socjologii niczym nowym. Inni ważni socjologowie – Marks, Simmel, Weber – byli również nonkonformistami, lecz we współczesnym świecie Bauman jest wyjątkiem. Bauman, jak i inni ważni nonkonformiści, jest wytworem własnej niezwykłej biografii. Podobnie jak niektórzy z nich potrafił on wykorzystać podwójną wizję emigranta, która wyostrzyła jego osobistąświadomość wieloznaczności nowoczesności. W tekście ukazuje się, że socjologia w rękach Baumana tworzy odmienną mapę kognitywną tego, co zwykli ludzi uznają za rzeczywistość, zaś my wszyscy bierzemy za oczywistość. Punktem wyjścia jego pracy jest hermeneutyczne zrozumienie przygodności i wieloznaczności strumienia życia. Baumanowskie metafory opisujące tę nowoczesność są mesjanistyczne i ekologiczne: ratują pewną odmianę socjologii, która jest zagrożonym gatunkiem. Ostatnia część artykułu rzuca wyzwanie tendencji krytyków Baumana, wedle których ostateczną ochroną socjologii jako dyscypliny akademickiej leży poza władzą społeczną, znajdując się we władzy tego, co obiektywne. Bauman zajmuje odmienne stanowisko, jego socjologia bowiem rozpościera się między dwiema „rzeczywistościami” – hermeneutyczną socjologią i socjologiczną hermeneutyką. Wskutek nieustannego procesu wymiany między nimi, potrafi on „odkryć to, co istnieje”. Oto poczucie wolności, które promieniuje z dialektyki, która cechuje jego dzieło.
    Zygmunt Bauman turned 90 years of age in November 2015, as vital, productive, and intelligently alive as ever. After more than seventy books written over five decades, each one taking a single subject and finding doors to open in all directions, his work remains an essential reference point in sociology. Bauman continues to be one of most electrifying writers in sociology, among the sharpest and most supple thinkers of his generation. This explains why some commentators have described him as the most important living sociologist. Yet his work has also come in for some severe critique. After outlining what his detractors have had to say, the view developed in this article is that generally speaking this criticism says more about present culture in sociology than it does about the quality of the work as such. The way in which Bauman practices his craft may have the appearance of idiosyncrasy, yet nothing about it is unusual; it has had a previous life in sociology. Other important sociologists have played the same nonconformist game that Bauman plays – Marx, Simmel, Weber – but none in the contemporary period. It is explained that in common with other important nonconformists Bauman is a product of his own unusual biography. And like some of them he has also been able to take the advantage of an émigré’s double vision which has sharpened his personal awareness of the ambivalence of modernity. It is subsequently demonstrated that in Bauman’s hands sociology is compelled into a different cognitive mapping of what we ordinarily understand as reality, the one we all experience and take for granted. What we find in his work is the demand that sociology begin with a hermeneutic understanding of the contingency and ambivalence of life’s flux. It is argued thereafter that the metaphors Bauman uses to describe this modernity are messianic and ecological: they are saving a certain kind of sociology, an endangered species. The final part of the article challenges the tendency of Bauman’s critics to assume that the ultimate defence of sociology as an academic discipline lies in an authority beyond that of society – the authority of the objective is. It is argued that Bauman leaves no room for such an authority since his sociology is established between two ‘realities’ – hermeneutic sociology and sociological hermeneutics. As a result of a continuous reciprocal process between the two, he is able to ‘disclose that which exists’. And it is the sense of freedom emanating from this dialectic that he communicates in his work.

    Der Band enthält die Abstracts ausschließlich in englischer Sprache.
    This paper intends to identify a representation of France at war related neither to gung-ho fiction nor to testimonial fiction in the French war novel of the first half of the 20th century. The vein of the War-as- itcould-be will be characterized by its historical span (dating back to before WW1 and lasting long after WW2), its generic forms (future wars, espionage, melodrama...) and its ideological ambivalence (secret concerns over the French soldier’s frailty and the Army’s ability to adequately defend the country).
