The article examines the possibilities of fostering young L2 learner print awareness via teaching for conversing about and reflecting on writing. In order to achieve this goal the present author conducted the qualitative research on a group of 2nd-graders engaged in the performance of a series of open-ended L2 written tasks accompanied by L1 cues. The analysis of collected data shows that drawing children’s conscious attention to writing might encourage the constructive transferability of linguistic skills from L1 to L2, thus being conducive to the development of logical thinking necessary for the enhancement of their print awareness.

This study experimentally evaluated Polish school students' competence at written communication, understood as one of the forms of social communication. The task, performed online, was designed to see if the students were able to select the most important information from a given base text and to compose new texts on this basis to comply with three different length requirements, and how they behaved under the pressure of the time allocated to complete the sub-tasks. Results from an overall pool of 500 secondary school students from a diverse sample of schools (in the city of Poznań and the surrounding Wielkopolska province) that differed in terms of type and ranking suggest an overall poor competence at various composite skills involved in written social communication: information selection, summarization, logical structuring, and cohesive embellishment. Participants clearly exhibited various problems with concisely formulating thoughts, properly complying with instructions, etc. Composing a short, written message (based on a provided base text) and/or freely embellishing and reformulating information clearly caused them considerable difficulty. The article closes with some suggestions for how the methods used could potentially be improved in future studies of this type.

Spoken and written language are two modes of language. When learners aim at higher skill levels, the expected outcome of successful second language learning is usually to become a fluent speaker and writer who can produce accurate and complex language in the target language. There is an axiomatic difference between speech and writing, but together they form the essential parts of learners’ L2 skills. The two modes have their own characteristics, and there are differences between native and nonnative language use. For instance, hesitations and pauses are not visible in the end result of the writing process, but they are characteristic of nonnative spoken language use. The present study is based on the analysis of L2 English spoken and written productions of 18 L1 Finnish learners with focus on syntactic complexity. As earlier spoken language segmentation units mostly come from fluency studies, we conducted an experiment with a new unit, the U-unit, and examined how using this unit as the basis of spoken language segmentation affects the results. According to the analysis, written language was more complex than spoken language. However, the difference in the level of complexity was greatest when the traditional units, T-units and AS-units, were used in segmenting the data. Using the U-unit revealed that spoken language may, in fact, be closer to written language in its syntactic complexity than earlier studies had suggested. Therefore, further research is needed to discover whether the differences in spoken and written learner language are primarily due to the nature of these modes or, rather, to the units and measures used in the analysis.

Zapisy wspomnień (np. pamiętniki, dzienniki, listy) jako najlepsze źródło danych biograficznych w socjologii „złoty wiek” mają już za sobą. Od początku lat 80. zeszłego stulecia liczba ogłaszanych konkursów na materiały autobiograficzne dramatycznie się zmniejszyła. W kontekście współczesnych przemian społecznych, demokratyzacji form zapisu i związanego z tym rozwoju „wyobraźni socjologicznej”, istnieje potrzeba „odświeżenia” refleksji o wybranych elementach metody dokumentów osobistych, która na świecie jest rozpoznawana za sprawą między innymi Floriana Znanieckiego. Ta refleksja dotyczy trojakiego rodzaju zagadnień. Po pierwsze, etycznego uwikłania opisów fenomenologicznych w potoczne i naukowe interpretacje; po drugie, doświadczeniowych i refleksyjnych cech aktu zapisu, charakteryzującego zarówno badanych, jak i badaczy; po trzecie, możliwości procedury mapowania zapisów autobiograficznych z wykorzystaniem map mentalnych (concept maps). Te zagadnienia zostały w artykule przedstawione w odniesieniu do literatury socjologicznej i niesocjologicznej, bowiem społeczne zakorzenienie praktyk piśmiennych przekracza granice dyscyplin. Elastyczność, otwartość i prostota procedury mapowania uwrażliwia teoretyków, jak i praktyków spoza środowiska akademickiego na obecne możliwości opisu zakorzenienia doświadczeń człowieka w rozwarstwionych, ale uporządkowanych obszarach życia codziennego.
The golden age of memories recorded in written form (e.g., memoirs, diaries, letters) as the best source of biographical information in sociology has come to an end. Since the early 1980s, the number of contests for autobiographical documents has rapidly decreased. In the context of modern social changes, democratization of forms of written record, and the related development of “sociological imagination” there arises a need to “refresh” reflections on several elements of the method of personal documents, which is recognized worldwide thanks to, among others, Florian Znaniecki. This reflection concerns three categories of issues. First, the ethical involvement of phenomenological descriptions in casual and scientific interpretations; second, experience-related and reflective features of an act of creating a record, characteristic for both the researched and the researchers; third, the procedure of mapping written autobiographical records with the use of concept maps. These issues are presented in the article in relation to sociological and non-sociological literature, as social grounding of writing acts crosses disciplinary boundaries. Flexibility, openness, and simplicity of the mapping procedure make both theorists and practitioners from outside the university milieu aware of present possibilities of describing the grounding of human experience in multi-tier but ordered spheres of everyday life.

This article presents an introductory part of my lecture Russian culture and civilization in the Slavic and world context. An information about presumable themes for the XVI International congress of the Slavic scholars in Ohrid (Macedonia) in 2008 were approved by the Presidium of the International Committee of the Slavic scholars in Opole (Poland), September 2004). A considerable part of this article is assigned to the epoch of Cyril and Methodius, the emergence of two Slavonic alphabets (Cyrillic and Glagolitic), the development of Slavonic written language in Macedonia with due regard for Ohrid Slavic culture. The Prior of the Holy Altar, the Head of the Roman Catholic Church Pope John Paul II in the epistle Slavorum Apostoli 2 VI 1985 attached the utmost importance to their activity not only for Slavic world but also for the whole Europe and also underlined that the beginning of the Christianity in Poland came into contact with Cyril and Methodius tradition. A Christening of Russia (988) was conductive to this process „becoming the part of our state, public, cultural, church life”(Richard Luzny). Polish archival and book collections contain the huge number of Cyril and Methodius manuscripts and the first typescript editions what creates highly auspicious conditions for the research work in the different fields of Slavic study.

The article presents the idiosyncrasies of the frequency of syntactic structures used by secondary school students (aged 13-15). It is drawn on the basis of research carried out in a secondary school in Kalisz. A total of 4,021 syntactic structures from 276 compositions written by students from two classes were analysed in order to present phenomena typical of the ultimate syntactic structures. The data was collected for two school years (2011/2012 and 2012/2013) and indicates the most frequently and generally used syntactic structures as well as the less popular and more specific ones. In addition, a comparison of the results and transposing them to a timeframe makes it possible to present the evolution in the syntax of compositions written by secondary school students. An analysis of the material has also led to specifying the types of syntactic errors and their frequency.

Although French is a Romance language descendant ffrom the Latin, there is of course some influence of other languages on it. English is perhaps the most important source of loan-words for the present French language. Our article is focused on new forms of written communication, mainly computer-mediated communication (CMC). The main aim of this article is to analyze the loan-words, especially the anglicisms that are used by chatters in various French chats. After examining the motivations of loan, the article studies the frequency of anglicisms in three chats and observes their grammatical adaptation in the context of CMC. A huge richness of anglicisms is illustrated by concrete examples taken from our corpus.

In Hermias’ commentary on Phaedrus (In Platonis Phaedrum Scholia), it is possible to identify several direct references to the philosophers and pre-Socratic doctrines, including Pythagoras. We point out to three references to Pythagoras in Hermias: (1) Pythagoras is characterized as an unwritten philosopher, (2) there is a special connection with the divinities and Muses, and (3) there is a special connection with the Phaedrus dialogue, revealed by the affinity between Pythagoras and Socrates. We show how the explicit references to Pythagoras in Hermias constitute a certain method of interpreting Platonism: as a philosophy manifested in writing, but which, at the same time, values the unwritten tradition, represented especially by Pythagoras and Socrates. We also demonstrate how the references translated and examined here reveal the image of this Neoplatonic Pythagoras of Hermias, an image which is not necessarily in tune with the oldest doxography, and which permits the reevaluation of Plato’s position as a philosopher who sought to combine unwritten doctrines with his explicit activity as a writer.

The structure and working principle of a written pole motor are presented. To the analysis of the motor, a field-circuit model of electromagnetic phenomena that takes into account magnetic hysteresis of magnetically hard materials is applied. The motion of the rotor, non-linear properties of magnetically soft materials, and eddy currents induced in the conductive massive materials are taken into account. To solve the equations of the proposed model, the finite edge element method and step-by-step algorithm are used. The elaborated method and software are applied to the analysis of the written pole motor.

A substantial number of studies have examined the effects of grammar correction on second language (L2) written errors. However, most of the existing research has involved unidirectional written feedback. This classroom-based study examined the effects of oral negotiation in addressing L2 written errors. Data were collected in two intermediate adult English as a second language classes. Three types of feedback were compared: nonnegotiated direct reformulation, feedback with limited negotiation (i.e., prompt + reformulation) and feedback with negotiation. The linguistic targets chosen were the two most common grammatical errors in English: articles and prepositions. The effects of feedback were measured by means of learner-specific error identification/correction tasks administered three days, and again ten days, after the treatment. The results showed an overall advantage for feedback that involved negotiation. However, a comparison of data per error types showed that the differential effects of feedback types were mainly apparent for article errors rather than preposition errors. These results suggest that while negotiated feedback may play an important role in addressing L2 written errors, the degree of its effects may differ for different linguistic targets.

The paper aims to show the importance of creativity in the class of French as a Foreign Language (FLE). The objectives defined in this study are the deepening of theoretical knowledge as well as the search for teaching techniques to work on the writing skills in the course of FLE in a creative and effective way. Creative writing has been analyzed as an effective technique of teaching a foreign language, contributing to the activation of the students’ cognitive activity and increasing their interest in language learning. The paper shows didactic strategies that focus on creative writing activities as a motivating factor for learners.

The aim of this paper is to provide some explanation for one of the main reasons of school failure, namely the problems with creating written expressions. The conducted study included 301 students of fourth grade, age of 10. The properties and application of lexical-semantic aspect of written expressions were described. The written works of students were submitted to a detailed analysis concerning the number of used words and categories of used lexemes. The material was analyzed quantitatively and subsequently described and interpreted. On the basis of the results,a developmental trajectory of lexical and semantic categories formation in written communication was suggested. The level of lexical correctness was established, and significant relationships with properly used vocabulary were identified. Furthermore, the directions for future studies and analyses emerged from the results of the current study.
Celem niniejszego artykułu jest charakterystyka rozwoju leksykalno-semantycznego aspektu języka u dziesięcioletnich uczniów, jako podstawy tworzenia wypowiedzi pisemnych. Badanie własne obejmowało próbę 301 dziesięcioletnich uczniów klas czwartych. Uczniowskie prace poddano szczegółowej analizie pod względem liczby użytych wyrazów i kategorii stosowanych leksemów. Uzyskane rezultaty poddano ilościowym opracowaniom statystycznym, a następnie deskrypcji i interpretacji. Odwołując się do uzyskanych wyników, wyznaczono linię rozwojową w kształtowaniu się kategorii leksykalnych i semantycznych w komunikacji za pomocą pisma. Ustalono poziom poprawności leksykalnej oraz znaleziono istotne związki z poprawnie użytym zasobem leksykalnym. Wyłoniono także kierunki do dalszych badań i analiz.

In the presented study, researchers consider if the evaluation method impacts early education students’ results and their beliefs about themselves. The results prove significant relation between the method of evaluation and students’ results (with the same questions). The reliability of evaluation depends on the type of diagnosed skills (language or mathematical skills). In an oral examination in the presence of the class, children achieve better results in the linguistic test. Higher scores on mathematical tests were noted in the case of written exams. Research conclusions could be used as a hint for early education teachers and an interesting area for other studies and consideration.

The Tuba Dei bell from the tower of St. Johns’ Church, the present-day Cathedral Basilica in Toruń, is one of the largest bells in Poland. It is also one of Toruń’s most important monuments and symbols of the city. It has attracted the interest of researchers not only on account of its uniqueness, but also because of the ongoing dispute regarding the date it was cast. This paper presents a voice in the discussion regarding the dating of the Tuba Dei bell of Toruń. Source literature has accepted the suggestions of the year 1500 or 1522 and various daily dates, and the discrepancies were based on different ways of reading and interpreting the inscription on the bell. The article is an attempt to verify the hypotheses accepted so far based on written sources that have not been included in the findings. In the course of researching medieval accounts of Toruń churches, the authors found information indicating the date the bell was cast. The St. John’s Church account book from 1520–1553 contains data that clearly establishes it as 27 September 1522.

According to Art. 9 sec. 2 of Regulation (EC) No.861/2007 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 11 July 2007 establishing a European Small Claims Procedure, the court or tribunal may allow written evidence from witnesses, experts or parties to be taken. The Regulation applies to cross-border cases (Regulation of 11 July 2007), i.e., cases in which at least one of the parties is domiciled or habitually resident in a Member State other than the Member State of the court or tribunal examining the case (Article 3). On the other hand, the Act amending the Act - Code of Civil Procedure and some other acts of 5 December 2008 added Art. 505 25. Pursuant to § 1 of this provision: The witness shall testify in writing if the court so decides. In this case, the witness shall make an oath by signing the text of the oath. The witness is obliged to submit the text of the testimony to the court within the time limit set by the court. The provisions of art. 165 § 2, art. 274 § 1 and art. 276 shall apply accordingly. As indicated in the justification for the draft of this legal act: Due to the fact that Polish law does not know the written form of testifying by witnesses and hearing the parties (the exception applies to mute and deaf people, cf. Art. 271 § 2 of the Code of Civil Procedure; this provision applies accordingly to hear the parties pursuant to the third sentence of Article 304), it was necessary to introduce appropriate regulations in this respect applicable to the European Small Claims Procedure.

Opis:
The article refers to an assessment of longer written statements of pupils in primary school (until recently also junior high school). The author emphasizes the importance of writing skills and directs readers to particular chosen resolutions of the Ministry of Education. Additionally, attention is paid to the differences between the mark and assessment. The author indicates the need of taking responsibility for self-learning by teenagers, and proposes a method of involving young people in the assessment process of their own written works. The author presents her own materials, which may inspire other teachers. Every part of her work starts with quotes from Wisława Szymborska.
Artykuł dotyczy oceniania dłuższych wypowiedzi pisemnych uczniów szkoły podstawowej (do niedawna też gimnazjum). Podkreślono wagę umiejętności pisania i odwołano się do wybranych rozporządzeń ministra edukacji. Ponadto zwrócono uwagę na różnicę między stopniem a oceną i wskazano na potrzebę brania odpowiedzialności za własną naukę przez młodzież. Autorka zaproponowała też metodę mającą włączyć uczniów w proces oceniania ich wypracowań oraz zaprezentowała własne materiały, które mogą stanowić inspirację dla nauczycieli. Poszczególne części opracowania zostały zatytułowane cytatami z pracy Wisławy Szymborskiej.

The manner, in which a written tender has been regulated in the Act of 19 October 1991 on Management of the Treasury Agricultural Property, shows many specific features. Similar to other tender procedures provided for in other legal acts, in particular in the Civil Code, it is a multilateral and qualifying procedure. However, unlike other tender procedures, price of the land is not the subject of competition of the participants. Moreover, no provision of the future agreement of sale is defined in the course of the tender. This makes it a unique solution, to which the tender provisions contained in the Civil Code may be applied only by analogy. It seems that this applies to regulations of the Civil Code related to the claim to conclude a contract of sale, the annulment of the contract concluded by invitation to tender and the effects of lodging the security to the extent not regulated by the Act on Management of the Treasury Agricultural Property.

The aim of this paper is to examine the chief aspects of the synchronic use of the multifunctional word ol (gloss: 3PL/PL) in its characteristic functions of a third-person plural pronoun and a plural marker in Tok Pisin1, recorded in a small group of texts which represent the contemporary written register of Tok Pisin. It is hoped that the undertaken examination of a number of characteristic contexts modified by this particle will shed some light on a prominent aspect of multifunctionality within the nominal morphology of Tok Pisin.

In the course of history, peoples and tribes have given each other designations on the basis of distinctive features, qualities and circumstances. The pretext for the creation of such names was the geographical area, special qualities of a particular people, religious affiliation or epic genesis. With the beginning of the Arab conquests and campaigns in the middle of the 7th century CE, Armenia fell under Arab domination becoming part of the Arab Caliphate within the next decade. The aim of the paper is to present what names were given to Muslims in what historical context, how these names reflected the perception of a different ethnoreligious community.

A specific characteristic of European culture is its attachment to the written and spoken language. One of its most important functions should be bringing together people of different confessions, views, motivations and styles of living and being. In this article I attempt to present, that in public discourse words had both - an integrative and disintegrative functions. Which one had a primary role in a particular time and place was significantly influenced by clerical and anticlerical forces. Especially this antagonism is being reflected on the public discourse in countries, where one of the Christian churches plays a leading role. Poland is one of such countries.

Opis:
Contrary to the way it functions in literary criticism, the expression of independence of direct speech appears problematic. The notion of oratio recta (which is of interest to linguists, philosophers, theoreticians of communication, textologists and narratologists) was related to the methodology of Maria Renata Mayenowa who considers the monologue to be 'the supreme structure of any literary text'. With regard to the above, it is claimed that the direct speech always complicates the entire composition of a novel. The narration-structure-related direct speech is, as Wojciech Górny rightly observed, direct and independent, because of tradition, and not because of the hierarchy of the communicational pattern of the novel, in which it is the text that introduces the citation which is more independent. On the other hand, Lubomir Dolezel's term 'clear expression', concerning the border between reproduced fictitious dialogues and the narration, indicates that the direct speech is a more narrator-independent structure than the indirect speech or 'erlebte Rede' (E. Lorck). It is also the very expression 'speech' which causes doubts, it was already Boris Eichenbaum who noted that 'a novel is being written and not wrote down'. If we accept Gérard Genette's point of view that dialogues are reproduced in a novel, the impreciseness of this reproduction would need to be underlined, for it is always a translation of codes connected with oral communication into codes specific to written communication, in the form in which the code is specific to the genre in question. However, the right reception of a novel requires the reader to believe that the narrator really lets protagonists speak. The direct speech is thus direct and independent for the reader in the esthetic sense. It would be difficult to defend the independence of the direct speech in the ontological sense.

The article presents an example of ethnic discourse analysis of the press published in Winnipeg (Canada) between 1896 and 1919. The presented research strategy is based on qualitative analysis of English, German, and Polish newspapers. The perspective of discourse analysis offers some possibilities to conduct research on creating the definition of ethnic identity on the pages of ethnic newspapers by the symbolic elite, changes within one ethnic group as well as discourse struggle for social meaning between competing groups. The sociological perspective of discourse analysis focuses particularly on social inequalities and on ideologies which legitimate such inequalities.
W artykule przedstawiono propozycję analizy dyskursu dotyczącego etniczności na łamach prasy wydawanej w Winnipeg (Kanada), w latach 1896–1919. Prezentowana strategia badawcza opiera się na analizie jakościowej gazet angielsko-, niemiecko- i polskojęzycznych. Perspektywa analizy dyskursu sprzyja badaniu tworzenia definicji tożsamości etnicznej przez elity symboliczne na łamach prasy, przemian zachodzących w zbiorowości etnicznej i dyskursywnej walki o znaczenie między rywalizującymi ze sobą frakcjami. Socjologiczna analiza dyskursu zwraca szczególną uwagę na istniejące nierówności społeczne i treści ideologiczne, które legitymizują te nierówności.

This paper reports on a comparative study performed in the field of Corpus Linguistics. The objective of the research was to analyze the distributional pattern of interactive and interactional metadiscourse features in two modes of academic spoken and written English. For this reason, a list of metadiscourse characteristics was gathered. By using the Sketch engine software, all the words were scrutinized in the corpus and their concordance lines were analyzed one by one in both corpora (British Academic Written English Corpus and British Academic Spoken English Corpus). As the data can show, in both corpora, the general propensity of the authors was towards the interactive metadiscourse features. In addition, in the written corpus, the transitions and endophoric markers were used more often; while in the spoken, endophoric markers and transitions were the most frequently applied metadiscourse features. In the interactional metadiscourse features, hedges and self-mentions were the most frequent in the written form; whereas in the spoken, self-mentions and boosters were used moe often.

Przedmiotem badań autorki było 5 mechanizmów językowo-semantycznych i kulturowych wykorzystywanych do impresji, czyli pierwszego wrażenia, w reklamach samochodu. Autorka ustaliła, że te zabiegi impresyjne to: nagłówki, nietypowe gatunki mowy, umieszczanie produktu w bardzo korzystnym otoczeniu kulturowym, gromadzenie (kumulowanie) wypowiedzeń waloryzujących i reklama negatywna.
The author has studied five linguistic-semantic and cultural mechanisms used for the first impression in advertising cars. She has found that these measures aiming at making an impression include: headlines, untypical speech genres, placing the product in a very favorable cultural environment, cumulating valuing utterances and negative advertising.

Modern Emirati Literature written by Woman WritersThe development of prose in the United Arab Emirates occurred much later than in other Gulf Countries. The local press started to develop only at the end of the 1960s. ‘Abd Allah Saqr Ahmad was the author of a short story Qulub la tarham (Merciless Hearts) published at the end of the 1960s and the first collection of short stories in the history of Emirate literature entitled al-Khashaba (A Piece of Wood). The first literary attempts of the young generation of Emirate writers were published within the pages of the following periodicals: an-Nasr, az-Zamalik, ash- Shabab, al-Ahli. On the market appeared the journal al-Ittihad, the weekly Akhbar Dubayy and the monthly al-Majma’. The first stage of modern Emirate literature is constituted by a group of writers who started to publish their works in the years 1972–1975. Among them: ‘Ali ‘Ubayd ‘Ali, Muhammad ‘Ali al-Mirri, ‘Abd al-Aziz Khalil as well as ‘Abd al-Hamid Ahmad and Muhammad al-Murr. In the Emirates women publish their works alongside men. The most renowned names include: Shaikha Mubarak an-Nakhi, Salma Matar Yusuf, Layla Ahmad, Maryam Jam‘a Faraj or Amina ‘Abd Allah Bu Shihab. New generation is represented by: Basima Muhammad Yunis, Su‘ad al-‘Arimi, Asma’ az-Zar‘uni, Ibtisam al-Mu‘alla and Rawda al-Balushi. Their short stories concern social matters i.e. the marriage of underage girls, the lack of respect for the opinions and aspirations of the young. What is more, in those stories we notice attempts at new topics connected with the introduction of a new life style which in turn is related to the economic and financial changes caused by the discovery of crude oil.

Artykuł poświęcony został kształtowaniu się normy składniowej w pisanej odmianie etnolektu śląskiego. Bazę materiałową stanowią teksty tzw. nowej literatury śląskiej, tworzonej od kilku lat przez grono twórców związanych z ideami emancypacji językowej Ślązaków. Norma składniowa odmiany pisanej odwołuje się do składni gwarowej. Ta z kolei jest bardzo słabo opracowana. Autor proponuje badania porównawcze ze składnią języka polskiego, które umożliwią wydobycie podobieństw i kontrastów. W części analitycznej artykułu omówiono zjawiska związane z budową grup czasownikowych (orzeczenia złożone bezokolicznikowe i imienne), konstrukcje przyimkowe, tzw. dopełniacz analityczny oraz konstrukcje nieakomodowane z partykułami ale, aby, ani.
This article is devoted to the formation of syntax norms in written variation of the Silesian dialect. The basis of reference is constituted of the so-called New Silesian Literature, which for a few years has been created by a circle of writers associated with ideas of the linguistic emancipation of Silesians. The syntax norm of written variation makes reference to dialect syntax. This in turn has been very little analyzesd. The author offers comparative research of the former with Polish syntax to enable abstraction of similarities and contrasts. The analytical part of the article discusses the phenomena of verb phrases (compound nominal predicate and predicate with infinitive), prepositional constructions, so-called analytic genitive and non-accommodated constructions with particles such as ale, aby, ani.

The study analyses answer given to three questions part of a nationally representative survey on linguistic attitudes towards written grammatical norms. These questions are aimed at gathering information about the possible attitudes of modern Bulgarians towards the magnitude distance between the Bulgarian written standard language and oral speech. Another aim of the study is to explore respondents‘ preferences concerning the question of synchronization between the two existing language forms - written and oral. The survey clearly shows that more than 61% of respondents are of the opinion that the differences between the Bulgarian written and spoken language should be decreased, respectively, there needs to be a process of convergence and equalization of the two language codes. The study applies the hyper-square method in order to explore which socio-demographic factors have a major influence on respondents‘ attitudes. The domineering view (69% of the respondents) is that oral speech should be in line with the Bulgarian written standard language, consequently, grammatical rules should be followed and taken on board when speaking. Finally, the chi-square method is applied when defining the factors which determine the respondents‘ attitudes. The study introduces the idea that conservative attitudes are likely to appear amongst Bulgarian adults as they have the idea of decreasing the differences between the Bulgarian written and oral language by finding a way of synchronizing them.

The authors of the article analyze selected texts of Internet communication, identify the speech genre of a funny story from the life of animals, identify its typological parameters in accordance with a concept developed by Mikhail Bakhtin, show the stylistic originality of the ironically written and spoken presentation of the plot, compare the specified genre of Internet communication with the related non-media genre of funny stories, and demonstrate the similarities and differences between the compared genres. The authors note that the genre of a funny story from the life of animals reveals its belonging to the Internet communication environment with such properties as the attractiveness of the emotiogenic situation underlying its plot, hypertextual connection within the frame of entertainment sites, forums, and channels of the source text with other narrative texts of the same genre as well as with reactive replicas-comments, where an abbreviated version of this genre is implemented and from whose totality a polylogue is formed as a reflection of the interactivity of Internet communication. The authors state the kinship of the compared genres and pay attention to the prospects of studying the specifics of Internet genres against the background of their non-media counterparts. The research material consists of 40 Internet texts.

The article is an example of research done with the biographical method within the framework of educational biography. In the text I present the key elements and stages of the applied research procedure (biographical workshops for young adults) and an example of using it in practice (i.e., obtaining qualitative data from written self-narratives, supplementary techniques and the analysis and interpretation carried out by the narrator). The research conclusions highlight the significance of using tasks of this kind in work with young adults. They show the opportunities but also limitations of using the biographical method, which result from the subjects’ young age. They describe a number of functions (including auto-therapy) that help them formulate their own judgements, gain autonomy in making decisions, and the sense of control of their own lives.

Seit kurzem werden die Versetzungsstrukturen immer haufiger zum Untersuchungsgegenstand der linguistischen Forschung. Dieses Interesse ist kommunikativ-pragmatisch determiniert, d. h. es erfolgt aus dem Bewusstsein ihrer Bedeutung bei der informationsstrukturellen Gliederung von Auserungen. Das Ziel des vorliegenden Beitrags ist die Vorkommenshaufigkeit sowie Vielsichtigkeit der Herausstellungsstrukturen in der betreffenden Funktion in Pressetexten der beiden Sprachen (Deutsch-Polnisch) aufzuzeigen.
Dislocation structures are increasingly becoming an object of linguistic research. This interest is determined communicatively and pragmatically, i. e. it results from the awareness of these constructions in information-structural aspects of utterances. The aim of the present paper is to determine frequency of occurrence as well as complexity of dislocation structures in this function in German and Polish print media.

The article describes the specificity of the changes that took place in the process of dissemination of double negation, typical for Slavic languages, visible in the Ruthenian recension of Church Slavonic texts. The reflections on the achievements in the field are enriched with the results of research on the text of Gospel No. 7 from the collection of the Russian State Archive of Ancient Acts (RGADA F. 381. Op. 1 Unit hr 7), which has not been analyzed so far in terms of the issues raised. Nearly three hundred negative structures were subjected to observations. In order to determine the number of single negation cases in relation to double negation the main focus was on structures such as: (1) ni Pron + V, (2) ni Pron + ne V oraz (3) ne V + ni Pron. It was determined, among other things, that their use was influenced by both the literature tradition and live language with elements of the northern dialect of the East Slavonic. On the other hand, the analysis of the negative structures preceding homogeneous parts of the sentence revealed the tendency, manifested onthe leaves of the monument, to transform towards the norm of the contemporary Russian language.

The purpose of the current study was to compare for the first time in Cyprus deaf and hard of hearing (d/hh) children’s written ability with that of adult d/hh persons. One group consisted of young children who were between 12–13 years of age and with congenital hearing losses (mean 80 dB HL in the better hearing ear at .5, 1, 2, 4 kHz), but without additional disabilities, who were attending the last grade of various general high schools in Cyprus (N = 11). They were trained orally in general schools, which they attended exclusively. The comparison group consisted of 11 adult d/hh persons (mean 75 dB HL in the better hearing ear at .5, 1,2, 4 kHz), all of whom were between 41–58 years of age, without any disabilities; they all are signing Deaf and had attended the school for the deaf in Cyprus. All participants were asked to produce written texts on topics of common interest (about everyday life). The analysis of the written texts was both quantitative and qualitative. Regarding the quantitative analysis, the written language was analysed by focusing on a) text content and structure, b) syntax, and c) vocabulary. Qualitative analysis was applied for further elaboration on the characteristics observed in the texts of the sample. This study revealed that d/hh children reached better levels of competence in written Greek compared with adult d/hh people, at least for the investigated aspects. The findings of the study may be of importance for educators and policy makers in Cyprus and elsewhere.

A range of various sources is used in geographical settlement studies, amongst which the most common are cartographic resources. In the case of a historical approach to geographical studies, however, archival written sources that provide much more information on the topic are equally important. The aim of the present study was to employ historical extracartograhic resources to recreate the structure of urban space in the chosen period of time and to show its variability. The study was conducted in the old town district, as it represents the oldest part of Mysłowice town. An additional aim of the study was to evaluate the utility of archival written and iconographic sources in the analysis of urban space transformations. The starting point of any study based on historical sources is the ability to correctly read (decode) the content of the used sources, thereby understanding the information contained in them. A number of both linguistic and terminological difficulties can be found when conducting such a study. Research has shown that this type of media for historical information (written and iconographic sources) is burdened with significant interpretation errors and require authenticity verification. Historical source materials, however, have a number of advantages – they allow the researcher to recreate the functional space of the town, even in detail. What is more, iconographic materials are easily readable and allow the researcher to recreate the physiognomy of urban space. Written sources, in turn, provide valuable direct information on business entities and the space of the town. Working with historical sources is based on systematic verification of their reliability, complementing their contents or learning how to interpret them correctly. The researcher is thus required to learn, among others, the terminology of a specific period of time, new typefaces and languages, or how to decipher abbreviations and separate fact from fiction.
Celem badań było zastosowanie źródeł pisanych i ikonograficznych do odtworzenia historycznej przestrzeni miejskiej. Ponadto podjęto próbę oceny użyteczności wykorzystanych materiałów wraz z identyfikacją głównych problemów i zalet wynikających z ich zastosowania. Materiały te pozwoliły na rekonstrukcję zarówno historycznego układu urbanistycznego, jak i życia politycznego oraz społeczno-gospodarczego badanego ośrodka. Ponadto odczytać można z nich szereg informacji nieformalnych oraz subiektywnych wskazujących na specyfikę danej przestrzeni, które uzupełniają badania geograficzne.

This paper stands up for the defence of writing as a hugely valuable resource for teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language or a Second Language. Specifically, it pursues two general targets: a) to highlight the importance of considering writing into the classroom of Spanish as a Foreign Language as a process that has to be constantly coached and developed; b) to emphasise how this way of teaching provides pedagogical benefits that go further the development of the writing ability itself, since it has an impact on other students’ general cognitive features. Methodologically, this text begins with a literature review that theoretically underpins the proposed targets, and, subsequently, our didactic proposal is exemplifiedby the use of a specific type of text (the match report). Then, a practical teaching resource is obtained as final result, which is supported by the recent literature on this issue. Finally, this contribution aspires to be implemented in different educative contexts by teachers of Spanish as a Foreign Language.

The paper aims to present the potential, for foreign language students, of the exolingual interactions online in public and open forums. For the analysis of students’ commentaries, I apply the observation categories that were first elaborated for the analysis of posts published in press sites. I focus on narrative commentaries in which web users organize phenomena and events discussed in public discourse and try to give them their individual interpretation. I consider this kind of interaction on press sites as contributing to the civic debates: I argue that they can be also integrated in observation categories used to describe and analyze exchanges between students discussing social issues in reference to foreign language media information. In the paper I present two kinds of commentaries: those written by native speakers in public forums and those written by FL students in response to public commentaries.

L’article présente, de façon synthétisante, quelques observations de l’auteure quant au fonctionnement des éléments prosodiques dans le discours portant sur des questions juives qui, très souvent, dégénère en discours antisémite. Le corpus est constitué d’apports discursifs puisés dans des interactions internet authentiques, focalisées sur les activités de Dieudonné M’bala M’bala en France à partir de 2009 et sur les performances de Rafal Betlejewski en Pologne à partir de 2007. Puisque ce discours se réalise dans le registre interactif écrit, il s’agit des imitations graphiques de la prosodie. On analyse des exemples des équivalents de la prononciation marquée, de l’accent sur le topic de l’énoncé, des jeux de mots résidant sur l’homonymie. L’auteure soutient que de telles imitations, outre l’expression des émotions, entrainent aussi des effets argumentatifs.
The article presents, in a synthetic way, some observations of the author on the functioning of the prosodic elements in the discourse on Jewish issues which, very often, degenerates into anti-Semitic discourse. The corpus consists of discursive contributions drawn from authentic Internet interactions, focusing on Dieudonné’s activities in France from 2009 and on Rafal Betlejewski’s performances in Poland from 2007. Since this speech is carried out in the written interactive register, it is a graphic imitation of prosody. Examples of the equivalents of marked pronunciation, accent on the topic of the utterance, and puns residing on homonymy are analysed. The author argues that such imitations, apart from the expression of emotions, also lead to argumentative effects. The article provides a synthetic overview of these observations, highlighting the role of prosodic elements in shaping discourse on Jewish issues.

The fifth anniversary of the death of the Reverend Alojzy Szorc, a historian of Warmia (2015), has provided an opportunity to take a closer look at his research of the work of Stanislaus Hosius in connection with the latter’s beatification process. This paper is divided into two main parts: the first one presents the Servant of God Cardinal Hosius and outlines his beatification process, the second one presents the studies of the Reverend Alojzy Szorcdevoted to the works of Stanislaus Hosius. The Reverend Professor Szorc spent much of his life studying the work of Hosius. As a member of the Historical Commission, he conducted preliminary research, both at home and abroad. He organised and ran the Hosius Workshop, which helped to publish Hosius’ correspondence from 1564 and 1565. All this proved necessary for the Warmia Archdiocese to complete the diocesan stage of the beatification procedure of Servant of God Cardinal Stanislaus Hosius.

The aim of the article is to describe formal exponents of discourse on the Internet forum, which is an interactive discourse created in writing, and to define the specificity of this form of communication from a pragmatic perspective. The analysis of the examples taken from Polish discussion fora focuses on three main issues, i.e., the stylistic form of speech (i.e., the method of translating the oral style into a written form), the organisation of the discussion structure (the system of replies, the mode, the order of speaking), as well as the availability of relevant contextual data and contact with the interlocutor. As shown by the analysis, the above-mentioned parameters of a network discussion show significant differences as compared with those related to direct conversation, and this discrepancy generates equally important pragmatic consequences. This leads to the conclusion that the exchange of opinions on an online forum is not only a transfer of a typical face-to-face interaction into a virtual communication space, but also is a separate form of a polylogue combining the features of an oral conversation and a written style in terms of the possibilities offered by both modes and related restrictions.

The article provides a thorough analysis of a written vote in a limited liability company in the context of Commercial Code and Commercial Companies Code. Voting in writing permits the adoption of resolutions by way of partners’ consent to a decision that is to be made (written vote strictly speaking). Also, persons entitled to make resolutions by way of written vote are indicated and the procedure of written voting is described. Moreover, the article discusses the permissibility of a written vote in the case when the law uses the term “resolution of the partners’ assembly”, the permissibility of a written vote in the case of a notary deed, secret ballot, and in one-person limited liability partnerships.

This paper is an attempt to present the role of authentic written texts in teaching communication in specialist language, based on the example of business language. The terms detailed here include communication, language as communication tool and specialist text. The methods of creating new terms, correlations between the sender of some content and its addressee, and the specialist knowledge held. The options of using specialist texts in business language classes were also presented. In this case such texts include information materials, interviews, certificates, contacts, agreements, statements, confirmations, invoices, orders, reports, other documents and commercial forms and commercial and official correspondence.

Z dniem 1.03.2019 r. moc obowiązującą utracił art. 231 § 4 ustawy z 15.09.2000 r. — Kodeks spółek handlowych, wyłączający pisemne głosowanie w sprawach absolutorium rozstrzyganych wobec członków organów (likwidatorów) spółki z ograniczoną odpowiedzialnością. Roz- wiązanie to budzi wątpliwości. W związku z tym, w niniejszym artykule zostały omówione zagadnienia niedopuszczalności pisemnego głosowania w sprawach absolutorium w spółce z ograniczoną odpowiedzialnością w prawie polskim i niemieckim oraz celu tej regulacji, znaczenia pojęcia „pisemne głosowanie” z art. 231 § 4 k.s.h., a także przyczyn oraz skutków prawnych uchy- lenia art. 231 § 4 k.s.h. w ujęciu instytucji absolutorium.
On March 1, 2019, art. 231 § 4 of the Act of 15 September 2000 — the Code of Commercial Companies, which excluded a written vote on absolutorium matters for members of the organs (liquidators) of a limited liability company, ceased to be in force. This solution raises doubts. Therefore, this article discusses the issues of inadmissibility of a written vote on absolutorium matters in a limited liability company under the Polish and the German law and the purpose of this regulation, the meaning of the term "written vote" under art. 231 § 4 k.s.h. and causes and legal consequences of the repeal of art. 231 § 4 k.s.h.

The article considers inheritance affidavit as a means of evidence in the context of changes introduced by the Act of 4 July 2019 amending the Code of Civil Procedure and certain other acts. This will apply in particular to the new Article 2711 of the Code. Pursuant to the mentioned regulation, a witness may give his/her testimony in writing under the conditions specified therein. The question arises as to the scope of the latter regulation, in particular whether it covers e.g. the evidence from the parties testimony and the inheritance affidavit. The analysis of these issues is historical and comparative in specific regarding German and French legal systems.

Opis:
Greetings and goodbyes in written internet interactions. A comparative franco-polish study of mothers discussion forums The paper studies greetings and goodbyes in the mothers discussion forums in order to find out, on the one hand, the contemporary tendencies in French and Polish, and on the other hand, the cultural variations of the interactional practices of the Internet users. In our case, we identify them in the field of politeness of the written interactions where the openings and the closing forms contribute to set up and sustain politeness, apoliteness or hyperpoliteness of the speech (Kerbrat-Orecchioni 2005 : 209). We also try to observe how the genre influences these practices.

Opis:
A word which can be uttered or written, given orally or in writing, is a basic carrier of the Good News. Particularly during the patristic period the idea of written kerygma was developed, which played a significant role during the presecutions, when a written tradition was also reaching the environments hostile to Christianity, unavailable to proponents of the Word of God. The idea of this kerygma was also cultivated in the subsequent centuries of the Church history and played a leading role in promoting the tradition of the Revealed teaching. The contemporary homilists who decide to record their homilies in writing have a possibility to spread the kerygma of the Good News which will also last for centuries. Correctly and accurately prepared written kerygma can become commonly available and universal in respect of geography and history.

Opis:
This article regards written autobiographical narratives of people who stutter. The collected material was analysed using both the quantitative and the qualitative method. The aim of the research was to determine whether the issue of stuttering is touched upon in autobiographical narratives of people who stutter. If so, what portion of the narrative is dedicated to the theme of non-fluency of speech. The conducted analyses permitted the verification of the hypotheses posed. It was concluded that the ones including the theme of stuttering were predominant among the narratives collected. Stuttering is present both as a separate thread and as part of other thematic threads. Threads where the issue of non-fluency of speech was taken up most frequently can be distinguished in the analysed narratives.
