This paper investigates how an organization tries to restore trust after an organizational-level scandal by examining the trust repair process. The study adopts a qualitative research approach to analyze the case of the scandal at Temple University’s Fox School of Business concerning the submission of false data to the ranking body. This paper shows the importance of trust between education institutions and the society and how it is difficult to rebuild it after violation. While dealing with trust rebuilding at the organizational level, we should consider not only the prior reputation of the organization, but also appropriate timing of trust repair mechanisms and number of actors involved in the trust failure situation. This paper also presents the trust rebuilding actions in a novel institutional setting, that is, in case of the business school.

The presented study describes the culture of trust in the relation of parents and caregivers of disabled children. The research comprised 56 participants from both groups. In the described centre the culture of trust develops based on personal and positional trust, which are determined by the routine activity, control and the knowledge of recipients of trust and its properties. The conducted research gains meaning in the context of the relation of issues of trust with the problem of disability, the prevalence of its occurrence in the population and the consequences in the individual and social sense.

The underlying paper's objective is to analyse the relationship between perceived organizational support and trust across two dimensions: a vertical and a horizontal one. The authors of this article undertook a field-based questionnaire survey (N = 80). The participants were part-time students of the undergraduate and postgraduate studies of the Department of Management of a Cracow state university in Poland. In the discussion part the authors draw conclusions from the research findings. Overall, the results of the conducted research revealed that perceived organizational support, vertical and institutional trust in the academic context were positively correlated.

Objectives The aim of the paper is to present the findings from a study of the relationships between perception of worklife areas and trust in supervisor and interpersonal trust on the one hand, and assessment of the severity of stress at work on the other hand. Material and methods The study involved 1113 individuals working in different Polish organizations. The Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10) was used to measure stress severity. Assessments of worklife areas were measured using the Areas of Worklife Survey, while trust was measured using the Trust in Supervisor Scale and the Interpersonal Trust Measures, a tool for measuring trust in co-workers. Results The regression analysis results prove that stress severity depends to the largest extent on the assessment of worklife areas (workload, reward, and values), as well as trust in the skills and competencies of the supervisor and trust in co-workers, based on cognitive factors. The role of trust in the supervisor, emphasizing the latter’s benevolence and the belief in their integrity and of trust in co-workers, based on emotions, and the relationships of these variables with stress require clarification. The model turned out to be statistically significant, the variables included in the model explain 45% of the variability of the dependent variable. Conclusions Assessment of worklife areas is more significant for stress level prediction than the trust dimensions studied. Conclusions concerning the relationships between trust and stress must be cautious, and the matter should be studied further.

Zaufanie było i jest przedmiotem licznych badań w dziedzinie zarządzania. Jest ono wskazywane jako wartość i istotny czynnik sukcesu organizacji. Obecnie, ze względu na dynamiczne zmiany zachodzące w otoczeniu biznesowym oraz sposobie realizacji zadań przez organizacje (np. praca zdalna, nowe elastyczne formy zatrudniania czy rosnące znaczenie technologii), zaufanie zyskuje na znaczeniu w kontekście efektywności prowadzenia działalności. Celem niniejszego opracowania jest wskazanie różnic definicyjnych odnoszących się do pojęcia zaufania oraz wyodrębnienie i usystematyzowanie czynników sprzyjających budowaniu zaufania w wymiarze inter- oraz intraorganizacyjnym. W toku analizy dokonano przeglądu dorobku teoretycznego oraz wybranych badań empirycznych odnoszących się do zaufania, zarówno w ramach sieci międzyorganizacyjnej (zaufanie interorganizacyjne), jak i w ramach poszczególnych organizacji (zaufanie intraorganizacyjne). W artykule wykazano również zasadność dalszych badań nad zaufaniem w obszarach, które zyskują obecnie na znaczeniu, w szczególności takich jak zaufanie w ramach zespołów wirtualnych oraz zespołów zróżnicowanych kulturowo.
Trust is and has been a subject of multiple research projects in management. It is being stated to be an organizational value and vital element of organizational success. Currently, due to dynamic changes in business environment and changes in the way organizations operate (for example virtual work, new flexible forms of employment, or increasing importance of technology), trust has been gaining in importance in efficient management of organizations. The goal of this paper is to describe differences in definitions of trust and to elaborate on trust factors which enhance emergence of trust outside and inside an organization. In the course of this analysis both trust theories, as well as empirical research about trust have been reviewed, both in terms of intercompany network (interorganizational trust) as well as in terms of internal aspects (intraorganizational trust). A need for further research has been also discussed in this paper, especially in the areas which currently gain in its importance, for example trust in virtual teams or in culturally diverse teams.

As usual during reforms, first of all the reformers are trying to develop a reform strategy and to find the right financial and human resources. However, the social support for reforms and public confidence in reforms and reformers are equally important resources in carrying out reforms. Therefore, public trust is an equally important resource for reform, such as finance or staffing. Instead a lack of public confidence in reform processes can be an invisible barrier, an indicator of their effectiveness or inefficiency. Public trust is not an abstract concept. Public trust is a condition for the integration of society around a number of socially significant problems, the successful reformation of the country. The article analyzes public trust in Ukraine and outlines the consequences of its shortage in the processes of reforming society. For this purpose, the theoretical foundations of the phenomenon of public trust were defined, the notion of «institutionalized trust», «political alienation», «externalization of trust», «social capital» were distinguished; analyzed the state of institutionalized trust in Ukraine; the consequences of a deficit of institutionalized trust for the reform processes in Ukrainian society are analyzed. Such research makes it possible to understand the problems of the development of social capital in Ukraine and, in the light of this knowledge, to adjust the development of social development strategies, that is, the actual processes of reformation. Summing up, the author stated a significant deficit of institutional trust in Ukrainian society. It concerns both the basic organs of state power and the instruments of democracy. The deficit of institutionalized trust in Ukraine is converted into three phenomena: 1) political exclusion (citizens try to distance themselves from the state as much as possible); 2) in the radicalization of society; 3) externalization of trust (hence the popular opinion in the society about the expediency of «external management», faith in the «collective action», in the «collective Saakashvili»). Also, a lack of trust in society exacerbates radical sentiment and radical actions in society. It should be understood that Ukrainian society after EuroMaydan and Ukrainian society during the presidency of L. Kuchma, are qualitatively different societies. This confirms the dynamics of institutionalized trust. That is, EuroMaydan 2014 and Russian military aggression became a kind of «moment of great upheaval», which confirmed the demand for the revitalization of democratic institutions and elementary social justice. This means that in the near future one should expect the growth of civic activity and a surge in the demand for a radical change in the rules of the game - political institutions. Therefore for Ukraine is very important to maintain a balance between intensive political and public participation, but necessarily in a conventional way, and with an adequate response from public authorities to social inquiries.

Turbulentność środowiska biznesowego sprawia, że wyzwaniem współczesnych organizacji staje się umiejętność identyfikowania, odkrywania i eksploatacji możliwości biznesowych. Pojęcie to jest usytuowane na pograniczu kreatywności, innowacyjności i przedsiębiorczości, ale jest również kluczowym elementem orientacji marketingowej. Celem artykułu jest odpowiedź na pytanie, czy i w jakim stopniu zachodzi związek pomiędzy zdolnością organizacji do odkrywania i eksploatacji możliwości biznesowych, a orientacją rynkową. Uzyskane wyniki dały podstawę do stwierdzenia, że trudno jest jednoznacznie wykluczyć taki związek.
Turbulent changes in the business environment are a challenge for organizations in terms of identification, exploration and exploitation of their business opportunities. Not only does this concept cover creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship, but also it is a key element of marketing orientation. This article aims to answer the question whether and to what extent exists a relationship between the ability of the organization to explore and exploit business opportunities vs. its market orientation. The initial results show that such a connection cannot be rejected.

Data from surveys indicate that people, in general, do not trust others. On the other hand, in one-shot trust games, where the player decides whether to send money to an anonymous partner, the actual rate of trust is relatively high. In two experiments, we showed that although reciprocity expectations and profit maximization matter, they are not decisive for trusting behaviour. Crucial factors that motivate behaviour in trust games seem to be altruism and a type of moral obligation related to a social norm encouraging cooperative behaviour. Finally, we were able to divide participants into specific profiles based on amount of money transferred to the partner, altruistic motivation, and belief in partners’ trustworthiness. This shows that the trust game is differently perceived and interpreted by different participants.

This study examined the impact of gender on the propensity to trust, responses to the violation of trust and apologies, and the pace of subsequent trust restoration. It was hypothesized that women would respond more positively to an apology but restore their trust at a slower pace than men. Results revealed no gender differences in level of trust immediately after an apology for trust violation, but there was a significant difference in the pace of trust restoration, with women returning to their pre-violation levels of trust later than men as hypothesized. There were also significant gender differences in levels of trust before trust violation and after an apology.

Objective - Due to the increasing share of Ukrainians in the Polish labor market, an analysis concerning the evaluation of trust levels exhibited by Polish and Ukrainian employees of Polish organizations was conducted. The assessment serves to merely outline the issue. Further studies on a more representative sample ought to be continued.Approach - The paper is based upon the review of literature regarding the scope of social capital and results of a pilot study conducted with the use of a questionnaire. The pilot encompassed 84 respondents. The questionnaire was developed on the basis of tools applied by other authors. The study encompassed Polish and Ukrainian employees due to the increasing share of the latter in the Polish labor market.Results - Results indicate that the employees, regardless of their nationality, manifest a rather high trust level. Respondents of both nationalities believe that their colleagues are friendly and eagerly share knowledge. The results indicate that they are aware of their duties and need not be controlled and overseen. However, they openly admit that their organizations do not shy from gossip and criticism, which begs for more scrutiny.Limitations/ research implications - The limitation of the present paper can be seen in the non-representative character of the sample. Moreover, it would be beneficial to expand the questionnaire in order to gain more insight into the issue.Originality/ value - Despite the limitations, the results are interesting due to the increasing number of Ukrainian employees in Polish organizations.

The article pertains to trust in social life. The author refers to works of R. Hardin, E. M. Ulsner and P. Sztompka. She considers the problem of trust in the context of interests and profits as well as risks. Two kinds of trust have been analyzed, namely strategic and normative trust. In the author’s opinion moral aspect of trust binds us to the community and allows to solve problems related to undertaking collective actions.

This article focuses the reader’s attention on understanding trust as a research category in the context of the functioning of modern families. This issue is sufficiently represented in research work, especially overall trust as the context of the functioning of modern man in the interpersonal space. However, there is no reference to family ties and their strength, which are shaped by the trust. This article is the result of part of a large research project carried out in 2020 on Polish families. The questionnaire’s questions for the analysis concerned intimate issues such as betrayal or faithfulness. The respondents were also asked about other family members having access to their personal belongings, including mutual assistance or small loans. The article draws the reader’s attention to the issues of interpersonal relations and the importance of the family in the respondents’ minds. The research contains interesting information on the preferences of the research category in shaping family relationships, the strength of family ties and the social roles performed based on these. The data show a change in the functioning of the modern family, especially in the context of its functions and family members’ roles.

W światowych rankingach uogólnionego zaufania Polska zajmuje niską pozycję. Wydaje się, że dominacja nieufności w polskich warunkach powinna narzucić analizy dotyczące zaufania. Przy opisach zaufania podejmuje się próby wyizolowania (rozróżnienia) nieufności. Nieufność coraz częściej jest definiowana jako odrębny termin, nie tylko jako przeciwieństwo zaufania. Szczególnie w przypadku polskich warunków analiza nieufności wydaje się niezbędna. Celami artykułu są opis ram teoretycznych do analizy nieufności w polskich warunkach, wskazanie płaszczyzn występowania nieufności oraz relacji między zaufaniem a nieufnością w Polsce. W artykule usystematyzowano pojęcie nieufności i wydzielono zasadnicze różnice w kategoriach zaufania i nieufności. Artykuł oparto na przeglądzie literatury oraz ogólnodostępnych danych.
In global rankings of generalized trust, Poland is in a low position. It seems that the dominance of distrust in Polish conditions should impose analyses on trust. In the descriptions of trust attempts are made to isolate (distinguish) distrust. Distrust is more and more often defined as a separate concept, not only as the opposite of trust. Especially in the case of Polish conditions, the distrust analysis seems indispensable. The aim of the article is to describe the theoretical framework for the analysis of distrust in Polish conditions, the indication of levels of distrust and the relationship between trust and distrust in Poland. The article systematized the concept of distrust and separated essential differences in terms of trust and distrust. The article is based on a review of literature and publicly available data.

Despite numerous publications and empirical studies devoted to social trust as an abstract concept, it still arouses considerable controversy in scientific discourse. This controversy stimulates new theoretical reflection and empirical research devoted to this notion. It has also inspired this article whose main cognitive objective is to determine the structure of trust attitudes in post-industrial cities under study, i.e. to capture similar and different coincidences among the main forms of this phenomenon. The methodological objective of the article is to examine the consistencies and inconsistencies among the three basic forms of trust (generalized, horizontal and vertical) and the directions of relationships among them. Therefore, in addition to presenting the results of the level of social trust in the studied cities, an important part of this article will be capturing coincidences occurring among the three basic forms of trust, which will play an important role in future empirical research methodology. Demonstrating significant coherence of attitudes among the three mentioned forms, will provide an argument in favor of their use for designing more synthetic indexes, while the lack of such consistency would suggest some restraint in such proceedings.
Zaufanie społeczne, jako jedno z abstrakcyjnych pojęć, mimo licznych publikacji oraz badań empirycznych, które zostały mu poświęcone, nadal wzbudza znaczne kontrowersje w dyskursie naukowym. Kontrowersje te pobudzają nowe refleksje teoretyczne oraz badania empiryczne poświęcone temu pojęciu. Przyczyniły się one również do powstania niniejszego artykułu, którego głównym celem poznawczym jest ustalenia struktury postaw zaufania w badanych miastach postprzemysłowych tj. uchwycenia pewnych podobnych i odmiennych koincydencji pomiędzy głównymi formami tego zjawiska. Z kolei celem metodologicznym jest zbadanie spójności i niespójności trzech podstawowych form zaufania (zgeneralizowanego, horyzontalnego i wertykalnego) oraz kierunków relacji zachodzących pomiędzy nimi. W związku z powyższym, oprócz prezentacji wyników dotyczących poziomu zaufania społecznego w badanych miastach, istotnym elementem niniejszego artykułu będzie uchwycenie koincydencji zachodzących pomiędzy trzema podstawowymi formami zaufania, co będzie odgrywało istotną rolę w metodologii przyszłych badaniach empirycznych, gdyż wykazanie znaczącej spójności postaw pomiędzy trzema wspomnianymi formami, stanowić będzie argument na rzecz ich wykorzystywania dla konstruowania bardziej syntetycznych wskaźników, podczas gdy brak takiej spójności sugerować będzie pewną powściągliwość w takim postępowaniu.

The paper concerns a subjective image of the social reality of homeless mothers. The focus is put on the phenomenon of trust. A theoretical perspective adopted in the article refers to the theory proposed by Piotr Sztompka and Anthony Giddens. The analysis of the world of homeless mothers is based on the qualitative and quantitative research conducted among women living in centres for single mothers in the Lower Silesia region. The results of the research point to a low trust level of homeless women. It is shown that the trust is the main factor of the individual activity. It significantly helps in the creation of the social relations network. Additionally, it is shown how to activate homeless women by increasing their trust.

The purpose of this paper is to attract attention to the extent of mobbing, especially in the public sector and to its destructive character. Mobbing reduces the value of human capital because of incurred psychological and health losses. It influences innovation negatively and in consequence leads to lowering the effectiveness of an organization. Negative effects of mobbing may be also seen in the social and individual dimensions. According to Heinz Leymann, abandoning moral norms, wrongly comprehended tolerance are creating a climate for practising different forms of hidden violence and psychical terror. Psychological war of this kind in workplace involves the abuse of power and manipulation. Once it has appeared, it is – as put by M.F. Hirigoyen – like a machine, which set in motion, may smash everything on its way. This asymmetric and destructive interaction can only keep strengthening unless someone from the outside intervenes decisively. Yet, the introduction of the notion of mobbing to labour code does not provide sufficient protection from mobbing in workplace – regulations leave too wide, unfilled space which needs to be filled up with concrete solutions and measures. On one hand, action taken by an organization should have a formal, administrative and organizational character. On the other hand, it should take into account the ethical sphere of an organization’s functioning. It should put special emphasis on the maintenance and the development of integrity, one of the most important dimensions of the conception of trust.

Many studies confirmed the positive effect of trust on human relations and performance in organizations. As a social judgment, trust should be related to perceived competence and warmth as two basic dimensions of person perception. Surprisingly, to date no attempts have been made to examine the influence of attributed competence and warmth on social judgments in interpersonal relations at work. To this end, we examine the influence of perceived competence and warmth on trust, liking and respect in upward and downward work relations. A study involving 190 middle-stage managers revealed that the two fundamental dimensions of social cognition (competence and warmth) influence respect, liking and trust. Competence had a stronger effect on respect than warmth; the opposite was true for liking. Trust was conditioned by both competence and warmth to an equal, high extent. At the same time, warmth expressed by supervisors led to higher results in liking, respect and trust in them than warmth expressed by subordinates.

The paper presents a set of concepts which can establish a basis for the creation of new evaluation model of trust and reputation management systems (TRM). The presented approach takes into account essential characteristics of such systems to provide an assessment of its robustness. The model also specifies measures of effectiveness of trust and reputation systems. There is still a need to create a comprehensive evaluation model of attacks on trust and reputation management systems and evaluation model of TRM systems itself, which could facilitate establishing a framework to deeply evaluate the security of existing TRM systems. We believe that this paper could be perceived as a small step forward towards this goal.

Trust plays an important role in human life environments. That is why the researchers has been focusing on it for a long time. It allows us to delegate tasks and decisions to an appropriate person. In social sciences trust between humans was studied, but it also was analyzed in economic transactions. A lot of computer scientists from different areas, like security, semantic web, electronic commerce, social networks tried to transfer this concept to their domains. Trust is an essential factor in any kind of network, whether social or computer. Wireless sensor networks (WSN) are characterized by severely constrained resources, they have limited power supplies, low transmission bandwidth, small memory sizes and limited energy, therefore security techniques used in traditional wired networks cannot be adopted directly. Some effort has been expended in this fields, but the concept of trust is defined in slightly different ways by different researchers. In this paper we will show how the family of Role-based Trust management languages (RT) can be used in WSN. RT is used for representing security policies and credentials in decentralized, distributed access control systems. A credential provides information about the privileges of users and the security policies issued by one or more trusted authorities.

The authors of the article test social trust in three dimensions: one vertical (trust in various types of institutions) and two horizontal – a private and a generalized one. Their main purpose is to study the level of social trust of the adult residents of rural communities of the Lodz region and the residents of the city of Lodz. They aim to diagnose social trust of the communities and to determine the correlates of the third type of trust, defined as generalized trust manifested in contacts with other people.
Przedmiotem rozważań w artykule jest zaufanie społeczne badane w trzech wymiarach: wertykalnym (do różnego rodzaju instytucji) oraz dwóch horyzontalnych – prywatnym i uogólnionym. Głównym celem artykułu jest próba odpowiedzi na pytanie o poziom zaufania społecznego dorosłych mieszkańców gmin województwa łódzkiego i Łodzi. Analiza dotyczy diagnozy zaufania społecznego badanych zbiorowości oraz ustalenia korelatów trzeciego z wyżej wymienionych rodzajów zaufania, czyli uogólnionego zaufania okazywanego innym ludziom.

The article analyzes the relations between political trust - one of the most important values in the life of political communities - and election-related behaviors in the narrow meaning of voting. Researchers investigate the phenomenon of decreasing turnout as one of the expressions of democratic crisis. When studying such a complex problem, it is essential to search for multi-theme causes which might be helpful in understanding the topic and possibly finding a solution for it. The author of this article, while assuming the correctness of analyzes conducted thus far, which indicate that the problem lies in weaker attachment to political parties, less interest in politics and inadequate tools, raises questions whether the decreasing turnout in individual states may be related to the level of trust that citizens put in political institutions and whether there is a relation between these both indicators. In order to answer these questions, the author employs a quantitative analysis of data which derive from reports containing percentage levels of political trust and turnout in the elections, a comparative analysis, as well as an overview of literature on the subject.

Numerous studies into the links between interpersonal trust and confidence in state institutions have been conducted since Putnam made the study of trust popular in the early 1990s. As might be expected, both interpersonal and institutional trust tend to be strongly correlated at the individual and the aggregate country level. However, there have been no attempts to determine whether (i) interpersonal trust results from trust in political institutions, (ii) whether the reverse is the case-confidence in government is a precondition for the development of individual trust, or (iii) there are purely reciprocal associations between these attitudes that would appear empirically as a lack of causality. The issue of mutual trust is an important element in each economic activity, especially in the global market economy. It also concerns insurance activity. Entering into contracts with clients, a life insurance company becomes a public trust institution. The long-term responsibility lies on the insurance company side. The act of 23 March 2003 on insurance activity sets forth that insurance institutions are obligated to systematically inform their insured clients about contract commitments. The paper shows some examples of clients losing trust in insurance companies. It also defines public trust and the basic factors influencing public trust in life insurances.

The paper is devoted to the subject of social trust and its relationship to social capital. It intends to answer the question to what extent and why the level of trust to unknown members of the society, being the principal element of the social capital, is different across European countries. The first part of the paper is devoted to the review of definitions linked to social capital, trust and trustworthiness. Among many definitions of social capital for the needs of this paper the following one, coming from [Robison et al. 2002, p.6] was adopted. “Social capital is a person’s or group’s sympathy toward another person or group, that may produce a potential benefit, advantage, and preferential treatment for another person or group of persons beyond that expected in an exchange relationship”. The essential importance of social trust for social capital was underlined. The different hypothetical factors potentially underpinning the level of social trust were indicated, among others: quality of institutions functioning in a given society, cultural norms and personal features of the individual citizens. To answer the question about the differentiation of trust and its underpinnings in European countries, the data coming from the European Social Survey for 2006 were used. In the beginning, on the basis of the features potentially correlated with social capital, the European countries were partitioned into three groups. The first group contained mostly Western European countries, the second – Scandinavian countries with very high social trust but without high preference for fairness, and the third one – Eastern (and partly Southern) European countries with very low trust and rather high preference for fairness. The level of social trust was the feature differentiating those groups in the strongest way. In the next step of the research, using the hypotheses formulated in the literature, the degree of correlation between social trust and its hypothetical underpinnings was analysed. This research revealed that the strongest underpinnings for the whole group of European countries stemmed from the assessment of political institutions and of the state of economy, and, next, from the assessment of respondent’s control of their life. The levels of those features were highly differentiated among the groups of countries previously distinguished. In particular, low assessment of political institutions and of the state of the economy and low optimism and of control on one’s life seem to contribute to low social trust in post-socialist countries.

The article focuses on the issue of trust development in low-trust societies. Based on a review of the existing literature, we discuss the types of trust as well as mechanisms of trust creation. On this basis, we propose a dynamic four-stage model of trust development. The model is based on the assumption of gradual accumulation of various trust forms on a social level. The article also discusses the implications of the model as well as the possible future routes of empirical research it may open.

Problem of epistemic activity and their relationship with language is very well known in philosophy. Undertaking this challenge in this article we shall present some logical constructions apparent in these issues. More precisely we want to describe some difficulties of formal reconstruction of the notion of belief and utterance and try to find broader perspective appointed by notion of trust. To realize this goals article shows how non-formal assumption about doxa affects on its formal construction. Then, logic of utterances-mainly based on Conversational Implicatures theory-and its relation to doxastic systems is discussed and, finally, article shows that more accurate description of these two notions needs broader perspective created by BIT system proposed by Ch-J. Liau.

Wobec tego menedżerowie muszą podejmować działania ukierunkowane na wzrost elastyczności organizacji. Poszukiwania źródeł tworzenia i osiągania przewagi konkurencyjnej skupiają się wokół czynników, które mogą ową elastyczność zapewnić. Są to tzw. miękkie zasoby przedsiębiorstwa, w tym zaufanie, związane głównie z jego kapitałem intelektualnym. Celem artykułu jest dyskusja nad znaczeniem, jakie ma w przedsiębiorstwie zaufanie, zarówno wewnętrzne, jak i zewnętrzne. Dodatkowo zawiera on wyniki badań własnych, których tematem jest ocena poziomu zaufania w przedsiębiorstwach należących do branż high-tech w Wielkopolsce.
Currently, enterprises operate in a turbulent environment. This is related to the progressing globalization processes, the development of the knowledge-based economy, supported by the development of advanced technologies. Therefore, managers are forced to take actions aimed at increasing the flexibility of the organization. The identification of sources of building and achieving competitive advantage are concentrated around factors that can provide this flexibility. They are the so-called soft enterprise resources, mainly related to its intellectual capital. The purpose of the article is to discuss the importance of trust in the company, both internal and external. In addition, it contains the results of own research on the assessment of the level of trust in enterprises belonging to the high-tech industries in the Wielkopolska region.

Podmioty funkcjonujące na rynku uzależnione są w swych relacjach od posiadanych informacji i zaufania. Są one obecnie traktowane jako jedne z najcenniejszych elementów wpływających na podejmowane decyzje oraz na relacje jakie występują między stronami. Banki są podmiotami uznawanymi za instytucje zaufania publicznego, dlatego też informacja bankowa oraz zaufanie nabierają tu szczególnego znaczenia. Założyć można, że w warunkach powszechnie występującej asymetrii informacji, zaufanie jest niezbędnym elementem wpływającym na pozytywne relacjach między podmiotami. Celem artykułu jest próba pokazania w jaki sposób asymetria informacji i zaufanie wpływają na wzajemne relacje pomiędzy podmiotami bankowymi a ich interesariuszami. Rozważania oparte zostaną o dane pochodzące z wtórnych źródeł informacji.
Entities on the market are dependent on information they have and trust. Information and trust level are currently seen as one of the most valuable elements which have impact on decisions and relations between transaction sides. Banks are entities which are supposed to be public trust institutions and that is why bank information and trust are more and more important. It can be assumed that in the conditions of generally prevailing information asymmetry, trust is an indispensable element which affect positive relations between entities. The main purpose of this article is to identify how information asymmetry and trust affect the mutual relations between bank entities and their stakeholders. The consideration will be based on date which comes from secondary source of information.

Zważywszy na użyteczność zaufania społecznego w wielu kontekstach oraz na poziomie mikro-, mezo- i makrospołecznym eksplorowanie potencjalnych korzyści z okazywania zaufania społecznego stano- wić powinno istotny aspekt badań i dociekań. Próbą odpowiedzi na owe zapotrzebowania jest prezentowany artykuł, który stanowi głos w dyskusji nad funkcjonalnością zaufania społecznego w wielu aspektach życia społecznego. Podstawę empiryczną prezentowanych rozważań stanowią cztery reprezentatywne badania ilościowe przeprowadzone wśród mieszkańców miast województwa łódzkiego. Z badań wynika, iż zaufanie społeczne pozytywnie wpływa na aktywność społeczną i polityczną, jakość życia, przedsiębiorczość, a także chęć współpracy z innymi. A zatem zaufanie społeczne to istotny zasób, który może być niezwykle użyteczny w kontekście realizacji celów jednostkowych, grupowych, jak również na poziomie zbiorowości.
Considering the usefulness of social trust in numerous contexts on the micro-, meso- and macrosocial level, exploring the potential benefits of expressions of social trust should form a crucial aspect of academic research and studies. This article is an attempt to meet these demands and a voice in the discussion on the usefulness of social trust in various aspects of social life.  The empirical basis for the analyses presented here is provided by four representative quantitative studies conducted among the residents of the Lodzkie voivodship.  The research proves the positive influence of social trust on social and political activity, quality of life, entrepreneurship and willingness to cooperate with others. Therefore, social trust is a vital resource, which may turn out to be exceptionally useful in achieving the goals of individuals, groups and communities.

W artykule omówiono zjawisko kultury zaufania jako klimatu sprzyjającego utrzymaniu poczucia bezpieczeństwa. Zostały podane zarówno elementy składające się na kulturę zaufania, jak i obszary działań umożliwiające jej trwanie. Dokonano również analizy składowych kultury zaufania w świetle przeprowadzonych badań ankietowych. Należy podkreślić ważkość tego zjawiska nie tylko w aspekcie bezpieczeństwa, ale również w relacjach na poziomie społeczności lokalnych.
The article briefly discusses the phenomenon of a trust culture as a climate favorable for the maintenance of security. Both elements , the trust culture and areas of activity allowing its presence, have been discussed. We would also like to stress the importance of this phenomenon, not only in terms of safety but also in the whole relations on the level of local communities. We must remember that we live in conditions of uncertainty and risk in which the major role plays the trust. Trust has become, for people, the main strategy to deal with ignorance and inability to control the future – “The strategy of simplification, which allows individuals to adapt to a complex social environment, and thus benefit from a wider pool of possibility”. We believe that there will be the dominant climate of trust on the Earth. It will destroy instability and social unrest and it will save humanity from destruction. Maybe our thinking and approach to life is Utopian, idealized, but like P. Sztompka we believe in Utopia, and we agree with the opinion of a sociologist Max Weber, who has said that if Christopher Columbus had not wanted to get to India by sea, he would not have discovered America. In our opinion the time is worth to be spent to create an Utopia in order to achieve something.

The article presents the results of empirical research on the role of trust in inter-organizational relations (IORs) and its outcomes. We questioned 210 Polish large and medium sized companies in different industries, experienced in IORs of different kind with Polish and foreign partners. We used a set of non-parametric analyses: Spearman correlation, mediation analyses with bootstrapping and structural equations modeling with RML (Robust Maximum Likelihood). Our findings confirm the statistically relevant correlations between the interpersonal trust of individuals and teams, the trust-building competence of organization and the outcomes of the cooperative relationships of companies. Additionally, the trust-building competence of organization serves as a mediator in the relations of interpersonal trust and IORs outcomes. Communication and communication systems are topics widely discussed in the literature of the subject. However, the analysis of the specific subjects of this study as courts, is so far a subject that is rarely discussed in empirical research as well as in a debate at the level of communication theory. The paper presents the results of survey research on internal communication in district and regional courts in the context of trust building. The study assumes that there is a relationship between communication on a given project tasks, communication on project management and non‑formal communication, and confidence in the public institution and its management. The results of the research clearly showed the existing relationship between satisfaction coming from the proper communication, and the level of employee trust in the court as a place of work.

The dynamics of demographic changes manifested in the processes of an ageing population affect Poland.In response to the situation, gerontechnology is emerging as an interdisciplinary field of scientific research in which technology is directed towards the aspirations and opportunities of the older persons. One of the examples of technologies that will be able to support the ageing population in the future are humanoids, that is, robots resembling a human being and equipped with artificial intelligence. The purpose of this article was to examine relationships between trust in the use of humanoids to care for the older people, the usefulness of technology, the ease of use, perceived threats, general trust and trust in science and technology. A survey method was used to collect data for research. The electronic questionnaire survey was disseminated among members of the Polish society. 643 filled questionnaires were received.

Trust is a pervasive phenomenon in our lives. We trust our family members and lovers, our physicians and teachers, our politicians and even strangers on the street. Trust has instrumental value for us, but at the same time it is often accompanied by risk. This is the reason why it is important to distinguish trust that is warranted or justified from blind trust. In order to answer the question how trust is justified, however, it is crucial to know exactly what is the fundamental nature of trust. In the paper, I reconstruct three accounts of trust that operate with the assumption that trust is fundamentally a mental state – the cognitivist account, the voluntaristic account and the affect-based account. I argue that all of these accounts make reference to deeply held intuitions about trust that are incompatible with each other. As a solution to this unfortunate dialectical situation, I suggest to give up the assumption that trust is primarily a mental state. Instead, I argue for a position according to which trust is best understood as a two-place predicate that characterizes a specific relationship in which we can stand to each other.

Evaluation of contemporary bank is usually determined by the experience of financial crises with banks in the leading role. In this context, the idea that the bank is the subject of a  special social mission is more and more questionable. The dilemma of “public confidence” in the bank requires attention to the nature of trust in business relationships. The study highlights the three perspectives of the trust based relationship, known as: the bill of trust, immanent credibility and forced trust. Presented on selected examples, the implementation of the idea of trust in each of these areas is undermined. The underlying cause of this is fundamental systematic conflict. It does not allow state institutions to effectively control the banks, while, at the same time, taking over the responsibility for their safety. The only way out of this impasse is separation of deposit – credit banking (which would be under the control of the state) from investing activities. This would mean a  return of the Glass Steagall Act spirit. This concept is considered at the work on the next instalment of the Basel regulations (Basel III) as well as the “banking union”.
