Opis:
The paper focuses on genealogical aspects of three interwar novels by Jalu Kurek – Andrzej Panik, Grypa szaleje w Naprawie, Woda wyżej) – which have often been described by critics as “reportage novels”. The author examines the past critical reception of the novels and the intentio auctioris. The main goal of the article is to suggest a more capacious genealogical term: the journalistic novel.

This paper presents an analysis of mythopoeic elements in three novels by Mia Couto. Starting from Mircea Eliade’s definition of myth, we look for elements of the Living Cosmos with its axis mundi, centre and periphery, chaos and harmony and quest in the novels. Such structure of the analysis allows us to consider the cultural colonization and decolonization of contemporary Mozambique. We conclude that the analysis of the mythopoetic schema in Mia Couto’s novels demonstrates a crisis of cultural harmony in the contemporary Mozambican state and nation. On the other hand, however, the mythopoetic reveals a horizon of cultural and traditional models of persistence that save not only from chaos but above all from the dehumanization of society.

The article takes up the problem of the structure of the last work of Mishima Yukio, the tetralogy Hōjō no umi (The Sea of Fertility). The book is considered to be Mishima’s opus magnum and his literary testament for the next generations. The article focuses on the Buddhist concept of transmigration which seems to be the writer’s structural trick on readers, a kind of perversive play in which the readers are not able to judge whether Mishima really believes in the concept of transmigration (jap. tenshō, sanskr. saṃsāra) or he is only mocking. Why did Mishima make this particular concept the axis of his book? The article aims at giving the answer to this question and suggests that the ultimate conclusion is yuishiki “consciousness only” (sanskr. vijñapti-mātratā).

Belief legends, especially those regarding fear and its realization, transformation and embodiment, are important narrative substrate. Forms of belief legends and/or their segments are often, in many ways and functions, intertextually inscribed in Croatian novelistic production. This paper shall analyse the way in which the motifs and topics related to the belief legends, as well as their development: defining and unmasking fear, are employed in the novels Živi i mrtvi (The Living and the Dead) by Josip Mlakić and Črna mati zemla (Black Mother Earth) by Kristian Novak. In the novel Živi i mrtvi, the elements of the belief legends poetically recreate a strong sense of horror of war, here represented through the growing fear felt by a small isolated group made up of a couple of soldiers. A different type of terror, a personal trauma that leaves the under-aged protagonist of Črna mati zemla completely isolated from the world and his loved ones, is poetically recreated especially through some of the elements of the belief legends.

This article presents two aspects of showing the power of literature. Orhan Pamuk, a Turkish Nobel prize winner, in his book New life is more focused on the content of the novel. Main characters of the story are entirely devoted to one book that totally changes their lives. Italo Calvino is more focused on the structure. His characters take part in a great adventure just to find the end of the story that they are interested in. The main goal of this article is to show differences and similarities in showing the same literary issue. Italo Calvino's novel is more optimistic and positive. Literature has good influence on his characters. On the other side, Orhan Pamuk's novel shows a destructive side of literature. Characters in his book seem to be defeated from the very beginning. Those two books show in a very good way the difference between European optimism and Oriental, especially Turkish, sentimentality, which in Turkish language has its own name – hüzün. It can be translated as 'blues, sadness, spleen'.Both novels present the power of literature and its influence on readers.

Between 1895 and 1904, Captain Edouard Deburaux, under the name Léo Dex, wrote several novels that fully embraced the codes of the geographical novel. Most of his writings, following in the footsteps of Jules Verne’s Cinq semaines en ballon (1863), were intended to take the reader mainly to Africa. So, is he a mere imitator? In fact, he differs from Verne in that he himself was a nationally and internationally recognized balloonist. And if he did not invent the “balloon novel”, he was nonetheless the most prolific contributor to the genre.

In his meta-literary and para-textual statements, Milan Kundera has been frequently turning to the issue of the enlightenment narrative experiments considered as the initial ones for the twentieth-century (post)modern creative strategies. Those experiments resulted from the striving for suppression of the over-prescription characterized the classicist rules, and they managed to direct attention to the literary genres which were undermined by the Enlightenment era that is in other words and above all, novel. In order to reveal this “modernity” of the eighteenth-century prose, the Czech writer in the work entitled Jacques and his master (1971) performed a “cultural translation” (variation) of the famous text by Diderot into the form of drama. Kundera was focused on the devices used by the French encyclopaedist which enabled him to expose the “evidence of trick” regarding the anti-illusion and fictitious character of literary representation of the world. He was, therefore, interested not so much in the philosophical and ideological background of Diderot’s tale dedicated to the romances of Jacques the Fatalist, but in the author’s freedom in his “play with the romance’s conventions” which even then was undergoing the process of fast schematisation.

W artykule podjęty zostaje temat powieści autobiograficznej i jej naukowego uzasadnienia.
The article discusses the subject of autobiographical novel and its scientific justification. In the first part the author draws the readers’ attention to the fact that certain basic problems concerning the use of the very notion stem from different ways of understanding the term “autobiographical.” The second part of the article outlines certain important approaches to autobiographical novel, predominantly in the Polish literary studies. In this area the most common are biographical methods and various forms of autobiographical treaty. Every single methodological choice entails a certain loss, since autobiographical novel offers several mutually exclusive interpretations. However, there are numerous questions which are rarely posed nowadays, and which concern receptive and medial dimension of the notion in which an autobiographical novel could exist as an “interpretation figure”. These questions are posed in the final part of the work.

Opis:
After André Gide and Marcel Proust, Louis Guilloux is one of the first writers of the 20th century who rejects the 19th-century literary tradition, creating in 1935 an exceptional and innovative novel – Le Sang Noir. Its innovation resides in the similarity to the New Novel from the 50s on the level of composition, narration, organization of spatio-temporal setting, role of the reader and character construction. The article discusses the innovative character construction employed by Guilloux in the creation of Cripure, the protagonist. By means of the techniques of internal monologue and various points of view, the author created a protagonist with highly complex personality, impossible to be unambiguously characterized. An anonymous narrator, showing dualistic approach towards the protagonist, constantly shifts the points of view, rendering any description of the protagonist’s identity unfeasible as the information provided about him by the narrator and other characters is contrary. Guilloux uses elliptic constructions, enabling the reader to interpret characters’ conduct. However, the constructions do not reveal the motivation of their actions, but are limited to presenting events, citing characters’ statements and, above all, demonstrating their behavior. The reader has to fill the gaps and interpret characters’ conduct themselves. Two decades later, this “adventure of writing” rather than “writing of adventure” will become one of the fundamental principles of the New Novel.

The paper explores the didactic potential of the novels by the eighteenth-century English writer Frances Burney. To this end, it takes up the metaphor of a life-like automaton – a symbol of human ingenuity and artistic mastery, and a popular object of entertainment in the eighteenth century – and examines its applicability to describe the act of construing a novelistic text. The analysis yields the conclusion that Burney’s experiments with narrative techniques (third-person narration, free indirect discourse, heteroglossia) were employed to ensure the narrator’s authority through the strategic withdrawal of the authorial feminine voice, and were also instrumental in achieving a text which would be both aesthetically pleasing and instructive to the readers. Burney’s didacticism, moreover, proves to be very modern, that is not prescriptively moralizing, but rather training the readers in the exercise of empathy.

The article concerns the problem of allegory in two Czech historical novels from the beginning and the end of the 60s of the twentieth century: Kladivo na čarodějnice by Václav Kaplický and Tovaryšstvo ježišovo by Jiři Šotola. Both novels are also considered to be important political ‘clearing accounts’ novels. Application of allegory as a method of reception allows us to answer the question about the participation of the reader in the setting up of allegory in the Czech prose of the twentieth century .

W drugiej części artykułu analizie poddano metafikcjonalny i pastiszowy charakter powieści Putramenta, która dzięki licznym odwołaniom do metaforyki teatralnej ujawnia i tematyzuje mechanizmy rządzące konwencją kryminalną.
The article looks at three aspects of the crime novel Strachy w Biesalu (Fears in Biesal, 1958) penned by Jerzy Putrament. In the first part of the text, the author describes how this work aligned with the process of changing the official stand on action novels, a shift that was characteristic of the post-Stalinist thaw. The second segment of the article features an analysis of the metafictional and pastiche protagonist of Putrament's novel, revealing and extracting themes related to mechanisms governing the convention of crime fiction. The final part reconstructs the social and cultural context of Fears in Biesal – the novel refers to the processes of women's emancipation and gender stereotypes associated with these processes that were characteristic of the second half of the 1950s.

The main issues discussed in this article are the intertextual relationships between two novels: one the most famous modernistic texts — Mrs Dalloway by Virginia Woolf and The Hours by Michael Cunningham. The American writer’s novel alludes already in the title to Woolf’s work. The Hours was the working title for Mrs Dalloway. The detailed analysis of the various references to it acknowledges the hypotext in the Cunningham novel and proves that intertextuality in this case has its mainly existential dimension: for heroines of The Hours Mrs Dalloway provides an opportunity for not only re-writing or re-reading but for re-existing as well.

Opening sentences raise a lot of interest of both linguists and common Polish speakers. It is evident from numerous websites in which Internet users share their observations on the best opening sentences of books (most often novels), as well as theoretical papers and writing guides. The analysis of opening sentences of ten novels by Marek Krajewski (co-author of two of them being Mariusz Czubaj) is to provide an answer to the question to what extent the utterance opening of the texts of the Wroc³aw-based prose writer fulfill the requirements to be met by such type of constructions. It turns out that most crucial are syntactic and semantic features rather than lexical ones. The clash between theoretical assumptions and the M. Krajewski’s writing practice shows that opening sentences of his novels not always fall into classical determinants of incipient formulas. It also illustrates the thesis that a skillful writer does not need to cling to theoretical assumptions to create good opening sentences and novels translated into nearly twenty languages.

Opis:
Set during the midst of the London Blitz, Elizabeth Bowen’s The Heat of the Day revolves around a narrative of espionage, but unlike many novels from the spy genre, it refuses to disclose all of its secrets. Instead, the novel’s dense and complex language, which so effectively expresses the dislocating effects of a city under attack, resists an easy or uncomplicated reading. This article examines the motif of reading within the novel, which manifests when its protagonist, Stella Rodney, learns her lover Robert is a Nazi spy. In her efforts to locate proof of his defection, Stella becomes caught in a recurrent but indeterminable task of rereading past events, a movement which attempts to remember the past but also foregrounds a fundamental inability to ever wholly resolve its enigmas. When Stella fails to read her past for lost clues, she is prevented from viewing the events of her life as a coherent and meaningful narrative. The novel’s difficult language reflects this lack of resolution, refusing to assimilate the events it depicts into a straightforward account. With its wartime setting as a disorienting backdrop, The Heat of the Day undermines the purpose of reading as the discovery of sense and meaning, producing instead only more questions and mysteries.

Raymond Federman’s Double or Nothing is a convoluted representation of the mentallyunstable mind existing as a series of six characters that are at once separate and conjoined: the horrors and traumatic events of the narrative past dismantle the unified subject into a series of schizophrenic sub-personalities, parts of the destabilized Author’s psyche, existing as separate fragments that eventually collide. Further, the imaginary room emerges as the Fifth Person, promising, but failing, to be a central stabilizer of the other fractured selves. Finally, the design of the text echoes the patterns of the traumatized mind, illustrating the inability of a narrative to construct a stable, unified subject and demonstrating the inadequacy of traditional narrative forms. The text, with its obliterations, cropped phrases, and pictorial manifestations, becomes the Sixth Person. However, in the end, the text shows that the past cannot be erased, explained, or reversed; neither can the experimental nature of the novel reach beyond the traumatized, schizoid subject to represent the horrors of the past that caused the Author’s psychotic breach. Federman has rolled a hard six that will repeatedly fragment and unite, just as the traumatic past continues to repeat itself as one that defies representation.

Cancer and its treatment are well-recognized risk factors for venous thromboembolism. The risk of thrombotic complications increases 4–7-fold in cancer patients and coexistence of both pathologies is associated with shorter survival. Incidence of thrombosis depends on the tumour type, antineoplastic and supportive therapy, and patient-related factors such as age, physical activity and comorbidities. Current recommendations of scientific societies indicate a dominant role of low molecular weight heparins in the treatment and prevention of venous thromboembolism in cancer patients. Long duration of the anticoagulant effect, and the subcutaneous administration route of heparins call for a safer therapeutic option, and one that would be more convenient for the patient. New oral anticoagulants: dabigatran, rivaroxaban, and apixaban, are indicated as prevention of venous thromboembolism following an orthopaedic surgery, and as stroke prevention in nonvalvular atrial fibrillation, with rivaroxaban also applied in the treatment of acute deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism. In the trials evaluating the efficacy of novel oral anticoagulants, they have been compared with enoxaparin or vitamin K antagonists. Cancer patients accounted for a small percentage of the trial population, and they were rarely analysed in subgroup analysis. It was only in the phase II ADVOCATE study that the target group were patients receiving chemotherapy. Direct comparison between test drug and low molecular weight heparins was not performed. The currently available study results do not allow us to recommend the new oral anticoagulants for the treatment and prevention of venous thromboembolism associated with cancer.

Characteristics of onomastics, as the one of many fields of the linguistic studies and the literary onomastics, which is a part of it, preludes the analysis performed in this paper. The emphasis has been put on one of the areas of this study – anthroponymy. According to this discipline, it was possible to investigate Polish surnames and depict the history of their advancement and modifications throughout centuries, basing on the mentioned novel. Author used the literary realism in the historical novel – genre recognizable for positivism and genuinely showed the process of transformations and modifications in Polish names, which was held within social groups like nobility, the middle class, peasantry and clergy. This thesis shows how did the author assort each personal name and directs to sources, that could have inspired him to create his characters and name them accordingly to the proper period and particular social group.

The article presents young Żeromski’s fascination with the writings of Paul Bourget. Basing on the Polish writer’s journal entries concerned with Une crime d’amour and Mensonges one can trace an ambivalent attitude towards those psychological novels developed in the late 1880s. By young Żeromski’s standards Bourget falls behind other masters of prose he admires at the time, namely Turgenev and Dostoyevsky. Still, despite Bourget’s didacticism, the aspiring youth cannot refrain from fascination for the descriptions of characters, whose emotions so often so clearly mirror his own. There are at least a few plots (an aspiring writer’s ambitions in the great world, the memory of a love lost etc.) which could have caught Żeromski’s attention as valid attempts to capture experiences known to him as well. It is therefore the identification process that stands in the way of condemning the moralistic ambitions of Bourget and allows the French writer’s works to remain an important point of reference for the Polish witer’s upcoming writing endeavors.

This paper is an attempt at finding answers to the following questions: How can the term gay crime novel be understood? Has such a sub-genre been established in Poland? Is it a sub-genre of crime fiction or rather gay novel? The author examines works by such writers as Edward Pasewicz (Śmierć w darkroomie [The Death in the Darkroom]), Michał Witkowski (Drwal [The Woodcutter], Zbrodniarz i dziewczyna [The Criminal and the Girl]), and Andrzej Selerowicz (Kryptonim „Hiacynt” [Codename Hyacinth], Zbrodnia, której nie było [The Crime that Never Was]). The analysis of the works is focused on the use of the crime scheme and selected writ-ing techniques in the context of the most popular strategies typical of crime fiction convention (e.g. a shift towards a socially engaged novel, urban space exploration, psychologisation of protagonists) as well as the most important characteristics of naturalistic novel (different ideas of presenting social groups).

Opis:
Michel Butor, born in 1926, one of the leaders of the French New Novel movement, has written only four novels between 1954 and 1960. The most famous of them is La Modification (Second thoughts), published in 1957. The author of the paper analyzes two other Butor’s novels: L’Emploi du temps (Passing time) – 1956, and Degrés (Degrees) – 1960. The theme of absence is crucial in both of them. In the former, the novel, presented as the diary of Jacques Revel, a young Frenchman spending a year in Bleston (a fictitious English city vaguely similar to Manchester), describes the narrator’s struggle to survive in a double – spatial and temporal – labyrinth. The first of them, formed by Bleston’s streets, squares and parks, is symbolized by the City plan. During his one year sojourn in the city, using its plan, Revel learns patiently how to move in its different districts, and in its strange labyrinth – strange because devoid any centre – that at the end stops annoying him. The other, the temporal one, symbolized by the diary itself, the labyrinth of the human memory, discovered by the narrator rather lately, somewhere in the middle of the year passed in Bleston, becomes, by contrast, more and more dense and complex, which is reflected by an increasinly complex narration used to describe the past. However, at the moment Revel is leaving the city, he is still unable to recall and to describe the events of the 29th of February 1952. This gap, this absence, symbolizes his defeat as the narrator, and, in the same time, the human memory’s limits. In Degrees temporal and spatial structures are also very important. This time round, however, the problems of the narration itself, become predominant. Considered from this point of view, the novel announces Gerard Genette’s work Narrative Discourse and his theoretical discussion of two narratological categories: narrative voice and narrative mode. Having transgressed his narrative competences, Pierre Vernier, the narrator of the first and the second parts of the novel, who, taking as a starting point, a complete account of one hour at school, tries to describe the whole world and various aspects of the human civilization for the benefit of his nephew, Pierre Eller, must fail and disappear, as the narrator, from the third part, which is narrated by another narrator, less audacious and more credible.

Opis:
Retracing in his novel the labyrinthine journey that leads Oedipus from the place of his abomination (Thebes) to the city of his future glory (Colonus), Henry Bauchau fills the emptiness between Sophocles’s Oedipus the King and Oedipus at Colonus. Bauchau’s hero, a powerful king, loses everything and stabs his eyes out when the cruel truth about his real identity is revealed. Blind, homeless, devoid of meaning of life, Oedipus leaves on a journey to pass away anywhere. However, his way to death turns out to be, thanks to benevolent presence of others and art’s liberating power, the road to personal elucidation. The story of Bauchau’s Oedipus, who finally recognizes himself as a truly human, is based therefore on the passage between absence and presence, between darkness and lucidity, on the union of contradictions which symbolize the complexity of human nature. This paper attempts to analyse different representations of absence in Bauchau’s novel. Afterwards, the article focuses on the ways which facilitate Oedipus’s road leading from depersonalization to rediscovery of his own identity.

The purpose of the article is to present the campus novel from an angle that would expose the qualities latent in a genre by pointing to the theme of conflict. The paper has been divided into three parts, each addressing one kind of conflict which can be distinguished from the generic pattern (the story about academics in the university setting). The analysed themes are recurrent in the campus novel – a town and gown row, a teacher-teacher conflict, and a clash between a teacher and a student. The conflicts are illustrated by works of David Lodge, Malcolm Bradbury and Kingsley Amis.

Opis:
This article is a comparative analysis of Mary Elizabeth Braddon’s The Doctor’s Wife and Gustave Flaubert’s Madame Bovary. Braddon’s novel has been interpreted as an imitation of Flaubert’s. The basis of the analysis is a Polish translation of Braddon’s novel (Żona doktora, „Gazeta Warszawska” 1867). This translation was published earlier than the translation of Madame Bovary (1878). Braddon’s works were quite popular in Poland and they were translated into Polish as well. It is shown that Braddon’s novel was not a copy of Flaubert’s work. The similarities concern the plot (a married woman’s affair) and psychological characterisation of the eponymous character (a girl who is absorbed her books and lives in the world of fantasy). In the crucial scene of the novel, Braddon makes a different choice than Flaubert does: her protagonist, who is in love with a seducer, does not commit adultery. Braddon explained that this was due to Protestantism and platonic concept of love which does not need physical involvement. Braddon shows three stages of the protagonist’s history: 1) her youth filled with books; 2) her unhappy marriage (the wife does not love the husband but the seducer); 3) after her husband’s and lover’s deaths the protagonist receives a large amount of money and begins to perform important social roles. This is how Braddon criticises the educational system of Victorian England and depicts a model which is a form of pedagogy preparing people for practical life.

The article is a discussion of a study by Rafał Pokrywka titled Współczesna powieść niemieckojęzyczna (Kraków 2018). The author of the study analysed selected works written at the turn of the 21st century, and – in an interesting manner – developed his discussion around a progression of three dimensions of time: the past, the present, and the future, which constitute the contexts for reading individual narratives. The interpretations of German, Austrian, and Swiss novels, both these which exist as Polish translations and these which have not yet been translated, are accompanied by cultural and sociological contexts, while the (re)definitions of the words used in the title of Pokrywka’s volume presented in the introduction enable one to place this original overview in the context of modern studies on the most recent literature.

The Crime of Count Neville is primarily a story of a complex father–daughter relationship, culminating in the attempted murder of the count’s daughter by her own father. Infanticide is inevitable for Sérieuse, which parallels the mythological story of Iphigenia. But Nothomb also develops on an extra-diegetic level, as the meta-narrative of the genesis of the Freudian Family Romance or the Novel itself. Between the concepts of “bastard” and “foundling,” this novel contains many autobiographical elements and borrows from other literary works, most noticeably from Oscar Wilde’s collection Lord Arthur Savile’s Crime.

Opis:
The article is an attempt at presenting Joanna Bator’s novel Ciemno, prawie noc as a book belonging to engaged literature and using the popular convention to criticise society. The first part contains examples and theoretical considerations about the changes in the convention of the horror novel, which consists of a gothic novel with various genres such as horror, thriller and detective story. The matter of their social dimension was touched on, for instance, with reference to Noël Caroll’s theory, Scandinavian detective story or the books by Alice Munro. The second part of article is composed of the review of conventional implements used by Bator that are typical of gothic novel, detective story, horror and fairytale. The use of specific implements, their accumulation and the disturbance of the convention are interpreted as a way of getting the readers to loose the well-known schema and drawing their attention to the relevant social problems. The convention of popular literature in Ciemno, prawie noc is designed for something more than only entertainment.
Artykuł stanowi próbę przedstawienia powieści Joanny Bator Ciemno, prawie noc jako utworu należącego do literatury zaangażowanej i wykorzystującego popularną konwencję w celu dokonania krytyki społeczeństwa.

Opis:
The purpose of the essay is to introduce the figure of a contemporary Spanish author, Vicente Luis Mora, and his novel Centroeuropa to the Polish literary researchers, as well as to analyze the special character of this novel in terms of reading agreement and the most adequate terminology concerning the literary genre, to which it belongs, based on the form of typological characteristics of a novel that includes ten essential points: paratext, plot, narration, time structure, poetics, the question of mimesis, the loyalty of history towards History, metatextuality, ideological character and the strategies used by the author. On the basis of these reflections it can be concluded that Centroeuropa by Vicente Luis Mora is a metanovel about a man who is looking for his way in a breakthrough moment in the history of Europe, between the 18th and 19th century, in the declining feudal‑absolutist Prussia and the emerging liberal‑capitalist Prussia, in the embryonic society, where economic and political norms haven’t been fully constructed yet and women are not full‑fledged members of society. Centroeuropa is a multi‑dimensional novel inspired by the past of Central Europe, but – above all – a metanovel about writing and its servitude.

Moreover, the author presented a short description of Satan from the Seventh Grade original publication, taking into account the reasons for the current lower level of about Makuszyński. The author shows that Makuszyński’s novel inspired Lewandowski to create an intriguing story, full of surprising twists and turns, set in the cyberworld, important for the contemporary young readers. Satan and Company can be considered a worthy continuation of Makuszyński’s novel, showing a cheerful life philosophy. Lewandowksi provides his readers with humour and optimism that were the hallmarks of Makuszyński’s fiction. In the contemporary world, often difficult, full of sadness and suffering, it seems to be a right way of showing children that despite adversities, it is worth smiling, also while reading a good book.

Intertextuality seems to be Alan Moore’s trademark. In his most famous comic books and graphic novels, such as V for Vendetta, Watchmen, Lost Girls or The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, he often refers to other texts of high and low culture. Therefore, a certain level of cultural competence is required to decode various messages hidden by the British writer. In V for Vendetta intertextuality is employed to convey certain political and ideological messages in a more subtle and indirect way. Through various allusions and quotations, Moore presents his views on the condition of the depicted society as well as on the political clash between a fascist state and its anarchist enemy. Intertextual references are also included in the graphics of the comic book. It is the aim of this paper to discuss if, how and to what extent intertextuality can influence the complexity of the graphic novel’s message and be used to indirectly convey particular political and social ideas.

The article interprets Ślepnąc od świateł [Blind from the Lights] as a postmodern environmental novel which shows the life of residents in a large metropolis, entangled in constant consumption. The author reads the story as a continuation of the nineteenth century novel about a social decay. He proves that the depicted society, delighted with consumer culture, wastes its opportunities for development. As a result of the breakdown of social ties and constant work, urbanites suffer from permanent loneliness. The disillusionment is alsointensified by the disappearance of spirituality.. The crisis of authority and social antagonisms further undermine the integrity and the sense of coherencein the self. But Żulczyk’s characters fail to reflect on life, which the author of the article sees as the sign of immaturity.
