We study the algebraic structure of orthogonal models thus of mixed models whose variance covariance matrices are all positive semi definite, linear combinations of known pairwise orthogonal projection matrices, POOPM, and whose least square estimators, LSE, of estimable vectors are best linear unbiased estimator, BLUE, whatever the variance components, so they are uniformly BLUE, UBLUE. From the results of the algebraic structure we will get explicit expression for the LSE of these models.

Opis:
Protists are key components of marine microbial communities and hence of the biogeochemical mathematical models that are used to study the interaction between organisms, and the associated cycling of carbon and other nutrients. With increased computing power, models of microbial communities have markedly increased in complexity in the last 20 years, from relatively simple single nutrient currency, nutrient-phytoplankton-zooplankton-detritus (NPZD) models to plankton functional type (PFT) or trait based models of multiple organisms, or individual based models (IBMs) of specific organisms. However, our recognition, if not parameterisation, of the physiological processes that underpin both autotrophic and heterotrophic protist nutrition and growth arguably have increased faster than our modelling capability, generating a wealth of new modelling challenges. This paper therefore reviews historical development, current capability, and the future directions and challenges in protist based mathematical modelling.

Opis:
When defining optimisation, special attention should be paid to its nature. This is because it is the process of maximising the efficiency, effectiveness or usefulness of something / someone. Its business context most often concerns production processes or human resource management. Hence, change, i.e. the fact that something / someone becomes different than before, is an inherent factor supporting improvement and the processes parantelleling it. The aim of this article – against the background of relevant literature on issues related to defining and processes of implementing change in enterprises: books and academic articles, online sources – is to present the results of empirical research into the most significant determinants supporting the implementation of change in a manufacturing enterprise and employee attitudes in assessing the implementation of change, using a selected manufacturing enterprise as an example. In order to achieve the objective, two questionnaire surveys were conducted: GIN=1582022 and GIIN=1372023 using a five-point Likert scale, a scrollable list and giving the opportunity to write an individual response. To describe the research results obtained, mathematical analysis tools were used to construct tabular summaries and then present the conclusions drawn from them. The results of the survey indicated a gap in terms of motivating employees for change processes. An increase in positive attitudes towards the implementation of change (ratings: very good, good respectively) was observed at 3 % and 13 %. However, there was a general increase in the number of people who do not want to participate in polemics regarding change processes in optimisation aspects by 6 %, what more: the statistics for the negative evaluation of the introduction of such changes showed a negative trend The research provided valuable and practical information, which was used by company managers to take measures to increase the motivation of employees to perceive change processes and understand their optimising aspects in the managed company.

This work presents the design and analysis of percolation models for branches and nodes in networks created using electric circuits. Electric circuits were built using square networks consisting of appropriate resistance and impedance elements, as well as of power supply sources. The created percolation models were described mathematically, according to the Maxwell matrix method of cyclic current in the classical form and in the complex number form. Analytical descriptions of electric circuits include random methods of "short-circuiting" branches and creation of “filled” nodes, respectively, in the networks using appropriate calculation procedures in Mathcad. Simulation calculations of surface leakage current for a polymer sample were made using a model of its surface (percolation for a branch in the network) and a numerical program developed on the basis of calculation procedures contained in Mathcad. On the other hand, simulation calculations of power emitted on the surface of a cylindrical insulator performed using its surface model (percolation for nodes in the network) and a numerical program written in the Mathcad environment.

The objective of this paper is to identify the determinants of reputation of the banking sector in Poland and to segment the society according to the factors that shape the reputation. Banks in Poland have a good reputation. The factors of a good reputation are in clear advantage over the factors of a bad reputation. The most important things in shaping the banks’ reputation are the axiological determinants. Their significance is three times as high as the effectiveness determinants linked to the satisfaction with the banking services, and it is much higher than the impact of the normative determinants connected with the institutional aspects of the banking sector. The three selected homogeneous typological groups of consumers differ from each other in terms of normative, axiological and altruistic determinants that shape the reputation. The effectiveness determinants do not diversify the consumers in terms of their impact on the the banks’ reputation assessment. The most important touch points that shape the banks’ reputation are: consumers’ personal experience, customer service attendants in the banks, friends’ opinions as well as the opinions of the people who are regarded by the consumers as experts. When modelling the reputation determinants, a structural equation modelling method (SEM) was used. Studies were carried out on a nationwide representative sample of N=1000 residents of Poland using the CAPI method in March 2019.

Pedunculate oak (Quercus robur L.) is an important component of temperate forests in the north- ern hemisphere. It occurs naturally across Europe and in parts of North Africa, the Balkans, the Urals and the Caucasus. In Poland, it predominantly grows on the plains at ≤700 m a.s.l. The main objective of this study was to determine how different temperature-humidity growth conditions influence dormancy breakage and epicotyl emergence in Q. robur, using growth curve models. We also in- vestigated whether these differences result from changes in the climatic conditions under which the oak populations grow naturally. In this study, we selected four pedunculate oak stands in western and eastern Poland. These sites were char- acterised by oceanic and continental climates, respectively. Mature acorns were collected in the autumn of 2016 and pretreated for two weeks in the cold (4 °C). The acorns were then sown in plastic pots filled with a peat/sand substrate. Four climatic variants (cold-dry, cold-wet, warm-dry and warm-wet) and a control (average conditions) were used. Epicotyl emergence was monitored daily for 74 days. Epicotyl emergence dynamics (maximum absolute growth rate, lag time, T50), number of days to epicotyl emergence, and cu- mulative epicotyl emergence were measured or calculated. The acorns from oceanic climates required more intense warm humid conditions for epicotyl emergence than those from continental climates. In contrast, acorns from continental climates had an evolutionary advantage in that their epicotyl emergence occurred both in cold-dry and warm-wet seasons. This indicated that each population was adapted to its local environment.

Item response theory (IRT) is widely used in educational and psychological research to model how participants respond to test items in isolation and in bundles. Item response theory has replaced classical measurement theory as a framework for test development, scale constructions, scree reporting and test evaluation. The most popular of the item response models for multiple choice tests are the one-parameter (i. e. the Rasch model) and threeparameter models. This is the general framework for specifying the functional relationship between a respondent’s underlying latent trait level, commonly known as ability in educational testing, or the factor score in the factor analysis tradition and an item level stimulus. In this paper, arguments are offered for continuing research and applying multidimensional IRT models. The position is also taken that multi-parameter IRT models have potentially important roles to play in the advancement of measurement theory about which models to use should depend on model fit to the test data. All calculations are conducted in R available from CRAN which is a widely-used and well-known environment for statistical computing and graphics.

Effect of solution pH, biosorbent dosage, initial concentration of Cr(VI), contact time on the removal process was examined. Complete removal of hexavalent chromium was achieved at pH values 1.0 and 2.0 whereas maximum removal of total chromium was obtained at pH of 3.0. The study showed that the biosorption and bioreduction mechanisms were involved in the removal process. The time required for complete removal of Cr(VI) using the pod of Acacia gerrardii was shortened with an increase in biomaterial dosage and decrease in Cr(VI) concentration. Kinetic data was well described using Park kinetic model. Freundlich isotherm model adequately fitted the equilibrium data indication multilayer adsorption of total chromium on the surface of biomaterial. The pod of Acacia gerrardii could be used efficiently for the removal of hexavalent chromium from aqueous solutions.

In this article we investigate the latest developments on life expectancy modeling. We review some mortality projection stochastic models and their assumptions, and assess their impact on projections of future life expectancy for selected countries in the EU. More specifically, using the age- and sex-specific data of 20 countries, we compare the point projection accuracy and bias of six principal component methods for the projection of mortality rates and life expectancy. The six methods are variants and extensions of the Lee-Carter method. Based on one-step projection errors, the Renshaw and Haberman method provides the most accurate point projections of male mortality rates and the method is the least biased. The Quadratic CBD model with the cohort effects method performs the best for female mortality. While all methods rather underestimate variability in mortality rates and life expectancy, the Renshaw and Haberman method is the most accurate.

Opis:
The analysis of the international transmission of the economic shocks and influence, among them the international effects of the national macroeconomic policies, constitutes a very wide and multi-aspectual field of the open economy macroeconomics. Flourishing interest in this field of theory and research, resulting from the post-war dynamic development of the international economic relations (in many facets of this issue) and more broadly − globalization, has led to improving the ”old” schemes and models considered as underlying the core of the open economies’ theory. The evolution of the thougts on international economic linkages and progress made in analysing them were marked by including into the analysis some new assumptions more adequate to the changes observed in the global economy and more perfectly reflecting new tendencies creating modern global ”reality”. All above has led to shaping so called new advanced approach to the open economy macroeconomics. In the empirical aspect, this approach is based on wide implementation of econometric modelling and panel data analysis. As to the theory we can say it is a synthesis – the effect of many years’ scientific research in the field. The aim of the article is to present the new advanced models of the global economy, in particular this part of them which refers to the international transmission of the effects of national macroeconomic (fiscal and monetary) policies and other shocks influencing modern open markets (interest rate shocks, price shocks, terms of trade shocks etc.). To realize so specified goal the following models will be briefly presented: International Monetary Fund’s Multimod, INTERLINK OECD (widely used in the global research in the 80s and the 90s) and the New Global Model OECD (currently implemented). As the background the chosen key steps of the evolution in the theoretical approach as well as empirical research in this stream of the open economy macroeconomics will be overally presented, starting from the Mundell-Fleming model being the crucial turning point of the thoughts on international linkages and macroeconomic policy influence. The author is going to underline the following aspects of the progress which has taken place in the questioned field of research: implementation of new approaches originating from the neo-classical concepts (e.g. the monetary approach to modelling the exchange rates), incorporating the monopolistic competition, monopolistic and oligopolistic economy models into the overall analysis, taking into consideration the short-term effects of the dynamic changes coming from temporary or permanent price, demand or terms of trade shocks, taking the assumption of the incomplete markets and intertemporal choice as an integral part of the analysis.

The main result is that inference based on the original full Bayesian model can be obtained using transformed data and reduced parameter spaces, provided the prior density for scale or precision parameters is appropriately modified.

Item response theory (IRT) is a model-based theory in which the responses to test items depend on some person and item characteristics, according to specific probabilistic rela-tions. The simplest and most popular are dichotomous IRT models that specify a single (i.e. unidimensional) latent trait under the assumption of normal distribution. This article reviews the latent class ordinal polytomous item response models (LC-IRT) and presents the compari-son with the well-known traditional IRT models (based on the assumption of a normally dis-tributed latent trait). The main goal of the article is to compare the estimation results of differ-ent kinds of ordinal polytomous IRT models with continuous and discrete latent variable in measuring job satisfaction in Poland. We analyzed data collected as part of the International Social Survey Programme using the ltm and MultiLCIRT packages of R.

Introduction: Identifying cooperation in team games is a difficult process to implement. Thanks to the development of methods and techniques of game observation, it is possible to reliably and accurately identify and evaluate the actions of players. The collections of various analyzes are used to create pragmatic game models. There are several types of such models. The paper presents models representing effective cooperation in the game on the example of volleyball. Aim of the study: The aim of the study was to identify mapping models of effective cooperation in the game, in the game positioning phase - in the element of receiving-passing the ball (serves). The second goal was to present the differences and similarities between observed teams. Material and methods: The work uses a method called qualitative study of unique cases, the research material consists of the four highest-ranked teams from Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic Games. Results: Four different models of cooperation in receiving-passing the ball (serve) were identified. Each of them contains characteristic features visible in the figures. Conclusions: Various models of cooperation have been identified. Each team has a specific model of receiving-passing the ball (serve) due to the spatial flexibility. The models presented in the paper are effective because they show the cooperation of the best teams in the world.

Opis:
Flotation process modelling is not a simple task, mostly because of the process complexity, i.e. the presence of a large number of variables that (to a lesser or a greater extent) affect the final outcome of the mineral particles separation based on the differences in their surface properties. The attempts toward the development of the quantitative predictive model that would fully describe the operation of an industrial flotation plant started in the middle of past century and it lasts to this day. This paper gives a review of published research activities directed toward the development of flotation models based on the classical mathematical rules. The description and systematization of classical flotation models were performed according to the available references, with emphasize exclusively given to the flotation process modelling, regardless of the model application in a certain control system. In accordance with the contemporary considerations, models were classified as the empirical, probabilistic, kinetic and population balance types. Each model type is presented through the aspects of flotation modelling at the macro and micro process levels.

Opis:
In this article we investigate some computational aspects of GPU-accelerated matrix-vector multiplication where matrix is sparse. Particularly, we deal with sparse matrices appearing in modelling with Markovian queuing models. The model we use for research is a Markovian queuing model of a wireless device. This model describes the device’s behavior during possible channel occupation by other devices. We study the efficiency of multiplication of a sparse matrix by a dense vector with the use of an appropriate, ready-to-use GPU-accelerated mathematical library, namely CUSP. For the CUSP library we discuss data structures and their impact on the CUDA platform for the fine-grained parallel architecture of the GPU. Our aim is to find the best format for storing a sparse matrix for GPU-computation (especially one associated with the Markovian model of a wireless device). We compare the time, the performance and the speed-up for the card NVIDIA Tesla C2050 (with ECC ON). For unstructured matrices (as our Markovian matrices), we observe speed-ups (in respect to CPU-only computations) of over 8 times.
Łańcuchy Markowa są przydatnym narzędziem do modelowania systemów złożonych, takich jak systemy i sieci komputerowe. W ostatnich latach łańcuchy Markowa zostały z powodzeniem wykorzystane do oceny pracy sieci bezprzewodowych.

Opis:
Conventional speaker recognition systems use the Universal Background Model (UBM) as an imposter for all speakers. In this paper, speaker models are clustered to obtain better imposter model representations for speaker verification purpose. First, a UBM is trained, and speaker models are adapted from the UBM. Then, the k-means algorithm with the Euclidean distance measure is applied to the speaker models. The speakers are divided into two, three, four, and five clusters. The resulting cluster centers are used as background models of their respective speakers. Experiments showed that the proposed method consistently produced lower Equal Error Rates (EER) than the conventional UBM approach for 3, 10, and 30 seconds long test utterances, and also for channel mismatch conditions. The proposed method is also compared with the i-vector approach. The three-cluster model achieved the best performance with a 12.4% relative EER reduction in average, compared to the i-vector method. Statistical significance of the results are also given.

Opis:
In the article the author analyses the impact of the Financial Crisis, especially the Greek fiscal one, on the sCDS prices in Europe. The aim of the article is to assess the ability of the sCDS premia to price the risk of countries before and during the Greek crisis. The author analyses sCDS premia of maturity 10 years together with the so called bond-spreads, i.e. the spreads between the countries’ bond indexes and the risk free rate of the region (in our case it was the yield of German bonds of corresponding maturity - 10 years). The idea was to check whether there occurred any discrepancies in the risk valuation via the two measures, as a consequence of the Greek crisis. The data is taken daily and covers the period of 2008-2012. Based upon the results obtained in the research we conclude that the Greek crisis indeed influenced the relationships between the two measures of risk, however the degree of the influence was different in different countries. The relationships between the two measures of risk were totally broken only in the case of Greece, while in the other countries the relationships either were not distorted or had been broken already at the beginning of the financial crisis (2008/2009). The Greek problems were indeed reflected in volatilities of all analysed instruments; however triggering the credit event affected only Greek bonds dynamics.

Opis:
The swap spread is defined as the difference between the fixed rate of an interest rate swap and the yield of the treasury with the same maturity. The swap spread is usually interpreted as the effective proxy of bank liquidity and the credit spread indicator. The interpretation is very similar to the LIBOR-OIS spread and in the context of Polish interbank market – WIBOR-OIS. However, WIBOR-OIS is less reliable during the crisis of confidence because of lack of interbank operation with the maturity longer than 1 month. Swap spreads base on two liquid instruments, thus they are free of this defect. The main goal of this paper is to assess how Polish swap spreads and their conditional variance reacted to important events connected with the subprime crisis and crisis of confidence in the Polish interbank market.

The integrated framework for parallel processing of data describing integrated circuits layouts that based on a graphoriented parallel algorithm representation is represented. A parallel program is developed from single computational units (grains) in specialized visual editor. This visual schema is translated into XML form that is interpreted by multi agent runtime system, based on a MPI library. The runtime system realizes a dynamic optimization of parallel computations with the algorithm of virtual associative network. The proposed tools are well suited for rapid development, analysis and execution of parallel algorithms with adaptation to specific cluster architecture.
