We study the algebraic structure of orthogonal models thus of mixed models whose variance covariance matrices are all positive semi definite, linear combinations of known pairwise orthogonal projection matrices, POOPM, and whose least square estimators, LSE, of estimable vectors are best linear unbiased estimator, BLUE, whatever the variance components, so they are uniformly BLUE, UBLUE. From the results of the algebraic structure we will get explicit expression for the LSE of these models.

Opis:
Protists are key components of marine microbial communities and hence of the biogeochemical mathematical models that are used to study the interaction between organisms, and the associated cycling of carbon and other nutrients. With increased computing power, models of microbial communities have markedly increased in complexity in the last 20 years, from relatively simple single nutrient currency, nutrient-phytoplankton-zooplankton-detritus (NPZD) models to plankton functional type (PFT) or trait based models of multiple organisms, or individual based models (IBMs) of specific organisms. However, our recognition, if not parameterisation, of the physiological processes that underpin both autotrophic and heterotrophic protist nutrition and growth arguably have increased faster than our modelling capability, generating a wealth of new modelling challenges. This paper therefore reviews historical development, current capability, and the future directions and challenges in protist based mathematical modelling.

Opis:
When defining optimisation, special attention should be paid to its nature. This is because it is the process of maximising the efficiency, effectiveness or usefulness of something / someone. Its business context most often concerns production processes or human resource management. Hence, change, i.e. the fact that something / someone becomes different than before, is an inherent factor supporting improvement and the processes parantelleling it. The aim of this article – against the background of relevant literature on issues related to defining and processes of implementing change in enterprises: books and academic articles, online sources – is to present the results of empirical research into the most significant determinants supporting the implementation of change in a manufacturing enterprise and employee attitudes in assessing the implementation of change, using a selected manufacturing enterprise as an example. In order to achieve the objective, two questionnaire surveys were conducted: GIN=1582022 and GIIN=1372023 using a five-point Likert scale, a scrollable list and giving the opportunity to write an individual response. To describe the research results obtained, mathematical analysis tools were used to construct tabular summaries and then present the conclusions drawn from them. The results of the survey indicated a gap in terms of motivating employees for change processes. An increase in positive attitudes towards the implementation of change (ratings: very good, good respectively) was observed at 3 % and 13 %. However, there was a general increase in the number of people who do not want to participate in polemics regarding change processes in optimisation aspects by 6 %, what more: the statistics for the negative evaluation of the introduction of such changes showed a negative trend The research provided valuable and practical information, which was used by company managers to take measures to increase the motivation of employees to perceive change processes and understand their optimising aspects in the managed company.

This work presents the design and analysis of percolation models for branches and nodes in networks created using electric circuits. Electric circuits were built using square networks consisting of appropriate resistance and impedance elements, as well as of power supply sources. The created percolation models were described mathematically, according to the Maxwell matrix method of cyclic current in the classical form and in the complex number form. Analytical descriptions of electric circuits include random methods of "short-circuiting" branches and creation of “filled” nodes, respectively, in the networks using appropriate calculation procedures in Mathcad. Simulation calculations of surface leakage current for a polymer sample were made using a model of its surface (percolation for a branch in the network) and a numerical program developed on the basis of calculation procedures contained in Mathcad. On the other hand, simulation calculations of power emitted on the surface of a cylindrical insulator performed using its surface model (percolation for nodes in the network) and a numerical program written in the Mathcad environment.

The objective of this paper is to identify the determinants of reputation of the banking sector in Poland and to segment the society according to the factors that shape the reputation. Banks in Poland have a good reputation. The factors of a good reputation are in clear advantage over the factors of a bad reputation. The most important things in shaping the banks’ reputation are the axiological determinants. Their significance is three times as high as the effectiveness determinants linked to the satisfaction with the banking services, and it is much higher than the impact of the normative determinants connected with the institutional aspects of the banking sector. The three selected homogeneous typological groups of consumers differ from each other in terms of normative, axiological and altruistic determinants that shape the reputation. The effectiveness determinants do not diversify the consumers in terms of their impact on the the banks’ reputation assessment. The most important touch points that shape the banks’ reputation are: consumers’ personal experience, customer service attendants in the banks, friends’ opinions as well as the opinions of the people who are regarded by the consumers as experts. When modelling the reputation determinants, a structural equation modelling method (SEM) was used. Studies were carried out on a nationwide representative sample of N=1000 residents of Poland using the CAPI method in March 2019.

Opis:
Pedunculate oak (Quercus robur L.) is an important component of temperate forests in the north- ern hemisphere. It occurs naturally across Europe and in parts of North Africa, the Balkans, the Urals and the Caucasus. In Poland, it predominantly grows on the plains at ≤700 m a.s.l. The main objective of this study was to determine how different temperature-humidity growth conditions influence dormancy breakage and epicotyl emergence in Q. robur, using growth curve models. We also in- vestigated whether these differences result from changes in the climatic conditions under which the oak populations grow naturally. In this study, we selected four pedunculate oak stands in western and eastern Poland. These sites were char- acterised by oceanic and continental climates, respectively. Mature acorns were collected in the autumn of 2016 and pretreated for two weeks in the cold (4 °C). The acorns were then sown in plastic pots filled with a peat/sand substrate. Four climatic variants (cold-dry, cold-wet, warm-dry and warm-wet) and a control (average conditions) were used. Epicotyl emergence was monitored daily for 74 days. Epicotyl emergence dynamics (maximum absolute growth rate, lag time, T50), number of days to epicotyl emergence, and cu- mulative epicotyl emergence were measured or calculated. The acorns from oceanic climates required more intense warm humid conditions for epicotyl emergence than those from continental climates. In contrast, acorns from continental climates had an evolutionary advantage in that their epicotyl emergence occurred both in cold-dry and warm-wet seasons. This indicated that each population was adapted to its local environment.

Opis:
Item response theory (IRT) is widely used in educational and psychological research to model how participants respond to test items in isolation and in bundles. Item response theory has replaced classical measurement theory as a framework for test development, scale constructions, scree reporting and test evaluation. The most popular of the item response models for multiple choice tests are the one-parameter (i. e. the Rasch model) and threeparameter models. This is the general framework for specifying the functional relationship between a respondent’s underlying latent trait level, commonly known as ability in educational testing, or the factor score in the factor analysis tradition and an item level stimulus. In this paper, arguments are offered for continuing research and applying multidimensional IRT models. The position is also taken that multi-parameter IRT models have potentially important roles to play in the advancement of measurement theory about which models to use should depend on model fit to the test data. All calculations are conducted in R available from CRAN which is a widely-used and well-known environment for statistical computing and graphics.

The starting point is a saturated model, then homogenous associations, conditional independence and complete independence. There are several statistics that help to choose the best model. The first is the likelihood ratio approach, next is AIC and BIC information criteria. In R software there is loglm() function in MASS library and glm in stats library. This study aims at investigating the potential of Acacia gerrardii pod for the removal of Cr(VI) in batch system. Effect of solution pH, biosorbent dosage, initial concentration of Cr(VI), contact time on the removal process was examined. Complete removal of hexavalent chromium was achieved at pH values 1.0 and 2.0 whereas maximum removal of total chromium was obtained at pH of 3.0. The study showed that the biosorption and bioreduction mechanisms were involved in the removal process. The time required for complete removal of Cr(VI) using the pod of Acacia gerrardii was shortened with an increase in biomaterial dosage and decrease in Cr(VI) concentration. Kinetic data was well described using Park kinetic model. Freundlich isotherm model adequately fitted the equilibrium data indication multilayer adsorption of total chromium on the surface of biomaterial. The pod of Acacia gerrardii could be used efficiently for the removal of hexavalent chromium from aqueous solutions.

In this article we investigate the latest developments on life expectancy modeling. We review some mortality projection stochastic models and their assumptions, and assess their impact on projections of future life expectancy for selected countries in the EU. More specifically, using the age- and sex-specific data of 20 countries, we compare the point projection accuracy and bias of six principal component methods for the projection of mortality rates and life expectancy. The six methods are variants and extensions of the Lee-Carter method. Based on one-step projection errors, the Renshaw and Haberman method provides the most accurate point projections of male mortality rates and the method is the least biased. The Quadratic CBD model with the cohort effects method performs the best for female mortality. While all methods rather underestimate variability in mortality rates and life expectancy, the Renshaw and Haberman method is the most accurate.
