Opis:: In the paper some properties of regular n-directional metrics and their directional functions are presented. Formulas for minimal and average values of directional functions, minimal and average increase of distance in spaces with regular n-directional metric in comparison with euclidean metric and formulas for distance in spaces with regular n-directional metrics as a function of orthogonal coordinates are derived. Possibilities of application of regular n-directional metrics are also pointed out.

Opis:: This work is a direct continuation of a previous work by the authors that dealt with construction of new coeffi cients of concentration by using Minkowski’s metric ρp(1 ≤ p ≤ ∞). The following work gives examples of applications of those metrics in agriculture, forestry, fi shing and hunting sectors. It also studies the pattern of changes of concentration of added value created in those sectors by comparisons with other sectors.
Praca jest bezpośrednią kontynuacją pracy autorów dotyczącej konstrukcji nowych wskaźników koncentracji, przy użyciu metryki Minkowskiego ρp (1 ≤ p ≤ ∞). W niniejszym artykule podano zastosowanie tych wskaźników w sektorze rolnictwa, leśnictwa, łowiectwa i rybactwa. Zbadano jak przebiegają zmiany koncentracji wartości dodanej wypracowanej w tym sektorze, dokonując porównań z innymi sektorami.

Opis:: In the manner of Pallaschke and Urbański ([5], chapter 3) we generalize the notions of the Minkowski difference and Sallee sets to a semigroup. Sallee set (see [7], definition of the family $S$ on p. 2) is a compact convex subset $A$ of a topological vector space $X$ such that for all subsets $B$ the Minkowski difference $A -B$ of the sets $A$ and $B$ is a summand of $A$. The family of Sallee sets characterizes the Minkowski subtraction, which is important to the arithmetic of compact convex sets (see [5]). Sallee polytopes are related to monotypic polytopes (see [4]). We generalize properties of Minkowski difference and Sallee sets to semigroup and investigate the families of Sallee elements in several specific semigroups.

Opis:: We characterize the linear space ℋ of differences of support functions of convex bodies of ² and we consider every h ∈ ℋ as the support function of a generalized hedgehog (a rectifiable closed curve having exactly one oriented support line in each direction). The mixed area (for plane convex bodies identified with their support functions) has a symmetric bilinear extension to ℋ which can be interpreted as a mixed area for generalized hedgehogs. We study generalized hedgehogs and we extend the Minkowski inequality.

Opis:: Here we show the importance of a systematic method to generate any integer power of a matrix in 2, 3 and 4 dimensions. This is motivated by the integration of Frenet–Serret formulae for the case of constant curvatures, and by the relativistic motion of a point charge into a homogeneous electromagnetic field, because in such situations it is necessary to calculate being a scalar. By these reasons, we believe that this work can be useful for people interested in linear algebra, differential geometry and electrodynamics.

Opis:: This paper argues that intuition plays a role in the diagnosis of schizophrenia and presents its phenomenological rationale. A discussion of self-assessment questionnaires and empirical studies in the clinical setting provides evidence that despite the prevalence of operational diagnosis, the intuitive judgment of schizophrenia continues to take place. Two related notions of intuitive diagnosis are presented: Minkowski’s diagnostic by penetration and Rümke’s praecox feeling. Further on, the paper explores and clarifies the phenomenology behind the praecox feeling. First, it is argued, intuitive diagnosis is neither a feeling nor an experience, but a typification operating at an implicit level. Second, it is not simply subjective as spatially it takes place in the in-between of the clinical interaction. Finally, it is not just momentary, but temporally extended, and, hence, partly reflective. The paper suggests that intuitive diagnosis requires critical testing on the side of the psychiatrist to either confirm or falsify it through reflective operations. In conclusion, the merits and shortcomings of intuitive vs. operational diagnosis are presented.

Opis:: In this paper we consider a retained digits Cantor set $T$ based on digit expansions with Gaussian integer base. Let $F$ be the set all $x$ such that the intersection of $T$ with its translate by $x$ is non-empty and let $F_β$ be the subset of $F$ consisting of all $x$ such that the dimension of the intersection of $T$ with its translate by $x$ is $β$ times the dimension of $T$. We find conditions on the retained digits sets under which $F_β$ is dense in $F$ for all $0 ≤ β ≤ 1$. The main novelty in this paper is that multiplication the Gaussian integer base corresponds to an irrational (in fact transcendental) rotation in the complex plane.

Opis:: Paper brings few ideas about a concept of Minkowski combinations of point sets, which can be defined as generalisation of Minkowski set operations in the Euclidean space En. Minkowski sum and product of two point sets are used for definition of Minkowski set operators as special mappings in En, which can be used for modelling of manifolds in this space. Three distinguished types of Minkowski operators are introduced based on different combinations of Minkowski sum and product of point sets.
W pracy wprowadzono pojęcia operatorów Minkowskiego, jako kombinacji zbiorów w przestrzeni euklidesowej En, opartych na znanych operacjach Minkowskiego (suma i produkt) na zbiorach punktów i będących zarazem ich uogólnieniem. Omówiono trzy typy operatorów Minkowskiego otrzymanych na podstawie różnych kombinacji Minkowskiego operacji sumy i iloczynu zbiorów punktowych. Jako przykłady zastosowania operatorów Minkowskiego w modelowaniu graficznym przedstawiono krzywe płaskie wygenerowane za pomocą programu GeoGebra oraz powierzchnie w przestrzeni trójwymiarowej otrzymane jako kombinacje krzywych bazowych w środowisku pakietu Mathematica.
