In the paper some properties of regular n-directional metrics and their directional functions are presented. Formulas for minimal and average values of directional functions, minimal and average increase of distance in spaces with regular n-directional metric in comparison with euclidean metric and formulas for distance in spaces with regular n-directional metrics as a function of orthogonal coordinates are derived. Possibilities of application of regular n-directional metrics are also pointed out.

This work is a direct continuation of a previous work by the authors that dealt with construction of new coeffi cients of concentration by using Minkowski’s metric ρp(1 ≤ p ≤ ∞). The following work gives examples of applications of those metrics in agriculture, forestry, fi shing and hunting sectors. It also studies the pattern of changes of concentration of added value created in those sectors by comparisons with other sectors.
Praca jest bezpośrednią kontynuacją pracy autorów dotyczącej konstrukcji nowych wskaźników koncentracji, przy użyciu metryki Minkowskiego ρp (1 ≤ p ≤ ∞). W niniejszym artykule podano zastosowanie tych wskaźników w sektorze rolnictwa, leśnictwa, łowiectwa i rybactwa. Zbadano jak przebiegają zmiany koncentracji wartości dodanej wypracowanej w tym sektorze, dokonując porównań z innymi sektorami.

In the manner of Pallaschke and Urbański ([5], chapter 3) we generalize the notions of the Minkowski difference and Sallee sets to a semigroup. Sallee set (see [7], definition of the family \(S\) on p. 2) is a compact convex subset \(A\) of a topological vector space \(X\) such that for all subsets \(B\) the Minkowski difference \(A -B\) of the sets \(A\) and \(B\) is a summand of \(A\). The family of Sallee sets characterizes the Minkowski subtraction, which is important to the arithmetic of compact convex sets (see [5]). Sallee polytopes are related to monotypic polytopes (see [4]). We generalize properties of Minkowski difference and Sallee sets to semigroup and investigate the families of Sallee elements in several specific semigroups.

We characterize the linear space ℋ of differences of support functions of convex bodies of ² and we consider every h ∈ ℋ as the support function of a generalized hedgehog (a rectifiable closed curve having exactly one oriented support line in each direction). The mixed area (for plane convex bodies identified with their support functions) has a symmetric bilinear extension to ℋ which can be interpreted as a mixed area for generalized hedgehogs. We study generalized hedgehogs and we extend the Minkowski inequality.

Here we show the importance of a systematic method to generate any integer power of a matrix in 2, 3 and 4 dimensions. This is motivated by the integration of Frenet–Serret formulae for the case of constant curvatures, and by the relativistic motion of a point charge into a homogeneous electromagnetic field, because in such situations it is necessary to calculate being a scalar. By these reasons, we believe that this work can be useful for people interested in linear algebra, differential geometry and electrodynamics.

This paper argues that intuition plays a role in the diagnosis of schizophrenia and presents its phenomenological rationale. A discussion of self-assessment questionnaires and empirical studies in the clinical setting provides evidence that despite the prevalence of operational diagnosis, the intuitive judgment of schizophrenia continues to take place. Two related notions of intuitive diagnosis are presented: Minkowski’s diagnostic by penetration and Rümke’s praecox feeling. Further on, the paper explores and clarifies the phenomenology behind the praecox feeling. First, it is argued, intuitive diagnosis is neither a feeling nor an experience, but a typification operating at an implicit level. Second, it is not simply subjective as spatially it takes place in the in-between of the clinical interaction. Finally, it is not just momentary, but temporally extended, and, hence, partly reflective. The paper suggests that intuitive diagnosis requires critical testing on the side of the psychiatrist to either confirm or falsify it through reflective operations. In conclusion, the merits and shortcomings of intuitive vs. operational diagnosis are presented.

In this paper we consider a retained digits Cantor set $T$ based on digit expansions with Gaussian integer base. Let $F$ be the set all $x$ such that the intersection of $T$ with its translate by $x$ is non-empty and let $F_β$ be the subset of $F$ consisting of all $x$ such that the dimension of the intersection of $T$ with its translate by $x$ is $β$ times the dimension of $T$. We find conditions on the retained digits sets under which $F_β$ is dense in $F$ for all $0 ≤ β ≤ 1$. The main novelty in this paper is that multiplication the Gaussian integer base corresponds to an irrational (in fact transcendental) rotation in the complex plane.

Paper brings few ideas about a concept of Minkowski combinations of point sets, which can be defined as generalisation of Minkowski set operations in the Euclidean space En. Minkowski sum and product of two point sets are used for definition of Minkowski set operators as special mappings in En, which can be used for modelling of manifolds in this space. Three distinguished types of Minkowski operators are introduced based on different combinations of Minkowski sum and product of point sets.
W pracy wprowadzono pojęcia operatorów Minkowskiego, jako kombinacji zbiorów w przestrzeni euklidesowej En, opartych na znanych operacjach Minkowskiego (suma i produkt) na zbiorach punktów i będących zarazem ich uogólnieniem. Omówiono trzy typy operatorów Minkowskiego otrzymanych na podstawie różnych kombinacji Minkowskiego operacji sumy i iloczynu zbiorów punktowych. Jako przykłady zastosowania operatorów Minkowskiego w modelowaniu graficznym przedstawiono krzywe płaskie wygenerowane za pomocą programu GeoGebra oraz powierzchnie w przestrzeni trójwymiarowej otrzymane jako kombinacje krzywych bazowych w środowisku pakietu Mathematica.

The article initially discusses the potential reception of the cover of the first edition of the novel by Aleksander Minkowski entitled Valley of Light. Next, the article passes to the strategy contained in the novel’s exposure: focalization, narrative style and relations of the protagonist with other characters, as well as sources of potential conflict constructing the story, are analyzed. In these analyzes, the model reader of this youth novel is taken into account, as well as the emotions that individual stylistic holds and great narrative figures can evoke. In this perspective, the concepts of Gaston Bachelard, Roland Barthes and Rita Felski are used, among others.

Minkowski single linkage clustering
Opis:
Efficiency of data transmissions with minimum latency levels and better resource utilization is a challenging issue in 5 G device-to-device (D 2D) environments. A novel technique referred to as single linkage steepest gradient gentle AdaBoost cluster-based device (SLSGAC) is introduced to improve device-to-device communications with minimum latency. The proposed technique uses the ensemble clustering approach to group mobile devices by constructing a set of weak clusters, based on the Minkowski single linkage clustering technique. In the weak clustering process, residual energy, bandwidth and SINR are estimated, and mobile devices are grouped based on the Minkowski distance measure. Results of the weak clustering process are combined to provide the final ensemble’s clustering output by applying the steepest gradient function to minimize the error rate. For each cluster, a head is selected from among the group members to improve the data transmission rate and minimize latency. Simulations are conducted comparing the proposed technique with the existing methods based on such metrics as energy efficiency, data delivery ratio, packet loss rate, throughput and latency.

The most desired journey by human being is definitely travel through time. For centuries, people dream about time travel, to be able to go back and fix mistakes of the past. But there are many complications associated with time travel - starting from technological aspects ending with the philosophical paradoxes. Yet, is time travel possible from the technological and philosophical perspectives? How to solve the paradoxes of time travel? It should be noted that realisation of time travel leads not only to the discovery of the nature of time, but also to the understanding how much is unknown about it. In this paper, probability of time travel and solutions to paradoxes will be critically analysed from philosophical perspectives.

For h : (0,∞) → R, the function h* (t) := th( 1/t ) is called (*)-conjugate to h. This conjugacy is related to the Hölder and Minkowski inequalities. Several properties of (*)-conjugacy are proved. If φ and φ* are bijections of (0,∞) then [formula]. Under some natural rate of growth conditions at 0 and ∞, if φ is increasing, convex, geometrically convex, then [formula] has the same properties. We show that the Young conjugate functions do not have this property. For a measure space (Ω,Σ,μ) denote by S = (Ω,Σ,μ) the space of all μ-integrable simple functions x : Ω → R, Given a bijection φ : (0,∞) → (0,∞) define [formula] by [formula] where Ω(x) is the support of x. Applying some properties of the (*) operation, we prove that if ƒ xy ≤ Pφ(x)Pψ (y) where [formula] and [formula] are conjugate, then φ and ψ are conjugate power functions. The existence of nonpower bijections φ and ψ with conjugate inverse functions [formula] such that Pφ and Pψ are subadditive and subhomogeneous is considered.
